Netflix Inc. Essay
Netflix Inc.
Company Background
Netflix Inc. incorporated in 1997 and made its first public offering in 2002. Netflix is an online movie
rental service which provides its 3,000,000 subscribers access to over 40,000 DVD titles. Although
Netflix stocks nearly every title available on DVD, it does not stock titles containing adult content.
The Netflix program allows subscribers to rent as many DVD s as they want, and keep them for as
long as they want. Three DVD s can be out at a time, as soon as one is returned the next DVD on the
subscriber generated movie list is shipped out. The DVD s are delivered for free by the United States
Postal Service from regional distribution centers located throughout the United States. Netflix can

The video rental stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood Video have suffered from dramatic drops
in VHS rental spending. But new companies such as Netflix have enjoyed strong growth.
Ticket sales for movie theaters are down nearly 6% since 2002. This is due in part by some movie
goers deciding to pass on the theatre and wait for the DVD. This is because the average price of a
ticket is over $6 today and some markets charge up to $10. With the cost of a DVD falling toward the
$15 price range, and unlimited rentals for under $20, many people are opting for the convenience and
savings of skipping the theatre.
The television industry has found that consumer spending on TV programs on DVD can reach $5
million per episode. With programming costs sky rocketing this revenue will change program
development and ownership patterns.
Hollywood studios are the big winners in the new industry trend. Their home video business is now
called home entertainment, and since 2002 has been increasing its focus on the DVD format. This may
be the reasoning behind the DVD releases of blockbuster movies shortly after their theatre run.
DVD s continue to grow more popular with existing users and in 2005 DVD s are expected to convert
more than 15,000 new households to its format every day. These new customers will bring new
behaviors and preferences

Positive And Negative Effects Of American Imperialism
In my point of view, the colonial period shifted the balance previously present throughout the world, in
which imperialism had less relevance in everyday lives. Before the colonial period, the natives living
in the Americas and the Caribbeans, mainly had internal fighting or conflicts between rival tribes.
While in Europe, the most tension occurred between major empires competing for trade, land,
recourses, and wealth. However, once the Europeans began colonizing America, both of the worlds
collided in a massive fight for sovereignty and wealth. This can be seen in each country s colonization
of America. In the French colonization, the colonist traded advanced weaponry to the Huron tribe for
fur and strong alliances. Consequently, the natives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the colonial period, portrayed a time in which a variety of people were severely abused and
many conflicts were provoked, there were also many positive sides towards the American
colonization. This positive side promoted societal growth and increased numerous countries` wealth
dramatically. For example, the English found an outlet to employ many of their low class peasants in
their Chesapeake colonization, and also found a way to produce large amounts of rice, tobacco, and
many more exports. In addition to obtaining expensive goods and recourses, American colonization
gave European empires the opportunity to expand their rule across oceans. However, In some
situations this reaped negative results, such as the British attempt to excessively control their colonies
by unconstitutionally issuing new taxes. One can even go as far to say that American colonization led
to the separation of the British empire. Thus, there were both positive and negative aspects towards
American colonization, but if all the senseless deaths were worth the society we have today, will be a
question debated for many

Auditors And The International Financial Reporting Standards
Introduction: Auditors, accountants, and companies must comply with the regulations as recommended
by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Disputes concerning convergence issues
and compliance may arise between companies and the auditors. In the case of dispute, the companies
and the auditor should consider alternative dispute resolving mechanisms which are faster, less
expensive and less adversarial than traditional litigation.
Reason for Conflict: Audited financial statements may be a source of dispute between the auditor and
management. The process of audit resolution would entail negotiating them. Knapp (1985, p. 202)
proposes the way that auditors approach these conflicts play a big role on the auditors independence
and the content of the results and the credibility of the financial statements. Controversy threatens the
success of the firm, resolving controversy will help reduce the agency cost hence minimizing the
expenses to be incurred. Resolving audit disputes would also be serving the interest of the
shareholders.
Areas of Dispute: Audit disputes may arise in areas such as fraud investigations, malpractice claims,
fee disputes, the purpose of internal auditors and the appropriate application of the accepted
accounting practices.
How The Conflict Arises: In these cases, auditor s must inform their clients about their roles and the
responsibility of the companies accounting function against those of the external auditors. When the

Anne Moody Coming Of Age Essay
In the Jim Crow South, Anne Moody lived her life trying to overcome the challenges of living in a
racist society. In her autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, she details her intimate experiences
as a young African American woman facing the challenges of growing up in the Jim Crow South
during the mid twentieth century. This autobiography is divided into four, chronological sections:
childhood, high school, college, and the Movement. In the first section of the book, Moody recollects
her life living in extreme poverty and battling racial distinctions at a young age. Throughout her
struggle to find a balance between school and work, Moody begins to take note of the racial
inequalities in her society. The black and white dichotomy was not the only form of racial distinction
she internalized. The poor treatment of high yellows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because racial etiquette played a huge role in the dynamic of systematic oppression, this death was not
just any other death. This tragic event marked a turning point in Moody s life. She finally came to a
realization that the treatment of blacks in this country was unjust and cruel. While growing into a
beautiful woman, she also learns of the NAACP and their efforts to overthrow racial inequality. She
then transferred to Tougaloo College for her final two years of college where she began taking part in
the Movement. Here, Moody joined the NAACP. From the sit in at Woolworth s in Jackson to
numerous protests within the area, she allowed the struggle of her people to pave the way to her
membership in CORE. Shortly after, Moody became a CORE activist in Madison County where she
became very active in the Freedom Vote. Because of her avid participation in this sector of the

Should Testing Be Used Ineffective And Inefficient...
Title Most students study to prepare for exams, but many may be using ineffective and inefficient
strategies. Cramming and simply rereading or restudying material does not lead to long term retention,
yet many students report cramming prior to an exam by re reading chapters in their text and restudying
their notes. Teachers encourage students to highlight and restudy, even though there may be a better
way for students to spend their time studying. The testing effect is a well researched phenomenon that
may have a valuable application in a classroom setting: self testing may help enhance student learning
and increase retention along with test scores. The testing effect, or later retention that occurs because
of an initial test, was questioned at one point in time. Could the testing effect merely be showing the
benefits that come along with re exposure to study materials? Roediger Karpicke (2006) designed a
study that would rule out the possibility that the benefit of testing was merely due to the re exposure to
study materials and also replicate the testing effect under educationally relevant conditions by using
educationally relevant materials. The results showed that initial testing produced better final recall than
additional studying. This proved that the testing effect IS NOT just a result of students being re
exposed to material, as students who restudied and re experienced 100% of the material produced poor
long term retention in comparison to those who were

Book Report On Unbroken By Laura Hillenbrand
Unbroken, written by Laura Hillenbrand, is a biography about a man named Louie Zamperini who
lived in Torrance, California. The story begins with Louie as a boy who often gets into trouble. After
maturing past his delinquent phase, he becomes a very talented runner. The idea of becoming a runner
was introduced to Louie by his oldest brother Pete. Pete always had great faith in his little brother and
wanted to see him do great things with his life. Louie was such a great runner that he made it to the
German Olympics in 1936. Although, these Olympic games were different because Louie was not a

this time, a major character is introduced, Mutsuhiro Watanabe (a.k.a. the Bird), who is a head
Japanese captain at the camp where Louie is being taken to be held prisoner. He makes the creepy
guard from The Green Mile seem like a guy you d love to bring home to dinner. On the day Louie
arrives to the camp, The Bird recognizes Louie for his Olympic performance and forces him to race
against one of his soldiers; however, Louie is frail due to lack of food and water and is humiliated in
defeat. The Bird is very hard on him, and is the predominant source of mental and physical abuse from
which Louie suffers at this camp. Louie, being the strong willed fighter that he is, continues to endure
and remain physically and emotionally unbroken until he eventually catches a break when The Bird is
offered a better job at another camp. After the war interferes with his camp, Louie is moved to a
different camp, which ends up being the same camp where The Bird had transferred. The Bird
continues to be ruthless and relentless towards Louie and directs his wrath at Louie far worse than any
other prisoner, especially when he determines that Louie is attempting to boost the morale of other
prisoners. In this time period in the book, hope and motivation are shown as Louie continues to fight

EH-Muulsep And SEP Case Study
In the first scenario, we considered two types of heterogeneous nodes ($2418$ $class$ $1$ and

show the number of active nodes and the total amount of dissipated energy over the simulation time
(rounds) respectively. As we can see from these figures, EH mulSEP provides a better performance
than that of SEP and mulSEP versions. It increases the stable region over the traditional SEP and
mulSEP by $135%$ and $37%$; and the total network lifetime by $101%$ and $82%$ respectively.

scale networks, so they die much slower and hence, achieves higher levels of power conservation.

Identity And The Identity Of Identity
We live in a world where we are constantly dealing with the question of identity. Here is one of many
definitions of the word Identity from the Merriam Webster dictionary, The relation established by
psychological identification Who am I? What am I doing here? What is my purpose in life? These are
frequently asked questions within the minds of teenagers and young adults. In this day and age, there
have been times where many teens and young adults have tried to find psychologically where they
belong in the world and where they might discover their identity. Some will try to find their identity in
other people, (i.e Celebrities, Singers, etc.) and others will find their identity in what they listen to, or
the movies they watch, and will try to take on those personas. Because in today s society it is easier to
mask who you are, rather than discover what you are capable of. In this discourse we are going to take
a look at some examples of identity, and how we can better understand the meaning of it and how we
can apply it to today.
Issue of Identity #1: In David Hume s Bundle Theory of The Self, he states that there is no fixed self
(or identity) but rather they are all mere perceptions. (Identities) Lust, love, hate, fear, sorrow,
according to Hume these are all mere perceptions that have nothing to do with the idea or impression
of self, but that it is something that we perceive to be feeling. And that we are all made up of
perceptions and each

The Ku Klux Klan (KK)
The Ku Klux Klan( K.K.K.) is a domestic terrorist organization established during the Reconstruction
era. Slavery was no longer a legal business during this time period but freedom was hardly available to
millions of newly freed blacks. The membership of the hate group was dominated by lawmakers, more
specifically republicans from Pulaski, Tennessee. White men and women dressed in white robes and
cone shaped masks and often rallied at night to terrorize black communities. The mindsets of Klan
members were centered on black and white no metaphor. They felt that the white race was superior
and blacks were inferior. In the southern states black people were being murdered and terrorized by the
thousands and because the Klan had direct influences with the local police forces, judges, and medical
professionals, there was no justice for black victims.
The American government has a greater concern with combatting foreign terrorism than it does with
combatting domestic terrorist groups such as the KKK. Osama Bin Laden was a Saudi Arabian
Muslim extremist, who orchestrated multiple well planned attacks against America on September 11,

Essay on The Enduring Loyalty, Love, and Compassion of...
Imagine leaving your wealth, home, family, and even country behind for twenty years. While away,
people will inevitably attempt to steal your possessions, seduce your spouse, and act as though you
will never return. Most likely, more people will try to harm your estate than those who will continue
working and behaving in an honest manner. This notion holds true in Homer s epic poem, The
Odyssey. While Odysseus wages war and struggles to return to Ithaka , a multitude of suitors court his
wife and live at the cost of his possessions. On the other hand, a few people like Eumaios remain
steadfast to the truth and work to maintain Odysseus estate and possessions. Eumaios, Odysseus
swineherd, embodies compassion, love, and loyalty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eumaios feels the pain and hardship that Laërtês endures, as he feels that the distressed Laërtês needs
instantaneous notice of his grandson s return.
In addition to being empathetic throughout the poem, Eumaios loves those who need it most:
Odysseus, Telémakhos, and the swine entrusted to him. When everyone else had finished dinner and
went to bed for the evening, Eumaios took a sharpened lance, and went to rest / under a hollow rock
where swine were sleeping (14.629 30). Homer uses this as an opportunity to show that Eumaios truly
treasured his swine; instead of sleeping like the others, he ventures out into the cold to watch over the
vulnerable swine. Later, when Telémakhos returns from searching for Odysseus, it is remarked that
Eumaios kissed the young man s head, his shining eyes / and both hands, while his own tears brimmed
and fell (16.21 2). In Odysseus absence, Eumaios essentially assumes the paternal role in Telémakhos
life, and Eumaios was ecstatic to see that his son had returned safely to Ithaka and avoided the
murderous suitors. Another emotional scene takes place when Odysseus reveals himself to the faithful
swineherd and cowherd. When Eumaios hears the news, he puts his arms around the old soldier,
weeping, / kissing his head and shoulders (21.251 2). Eumaios beams with excitement and joy when
he finds out his long last master has finally returned;

Analyzing an Organization
The Organization
Introduction
Organizations can comprise of a sole proprietorship, partnership or a corporation. For this assignment,
the reference is to the complex network of a corporation, Starbucks Coffee Company. It might not be
realized but their system is dependent heavily on a system of computers and telecommunications, with
the human resource managers delegated with powers to formulate strategies for recruiting people who
can take fast and accurate decisions leading to employee commitment, cost effectiveness and the
ultimate profitability of the organization. Such corporations are normally categorized into three
organizational configurations the functional, divisional, matrix, federations and networks.
Corporations are headed by a chairman or a CEO, followed by a chain of command that is manifested
in the organizational chart of the corporation (Alan, 2007).
Job Analysis
The criticality of job analysis in organizational success is a crucial function for human resource
management and is a disciplined process of assimilating information pertaining to the functional
aspects of a job. The information thus collected helps the human resources department to upload data
on the factors relating to, a) time for the job, b) details of tasks under one job, c) restructuring job
content for extracting the maximum potential of an employee, d) behavioral pattern of the employee
and e) an assessment of the attitude and aptitude required from a candidate for the job on

How Did The Weather Affect The Spread Of The Great Plague
October 1347, tewele trading ships docked on the Sicilian port of Messina after sailing across the
Black Sea. When they arrived on the dock more than half of the sailors aboard were incohesive and the
others were running high fevers. Everyone on the ship had black boils that oozed blood and pus. In
panic, the Sician authorities ordered all of ships and infected people out of the harbor.
The winter before the Great Plague was a dry one. Allowing rodents to live more freely. Since the
weather was on the more dryer side, the rodent population did not decrease as it would during any
other winter. When spring came along the air was hot and sticky, giving the female rodents a chance to
give birth to two litters. With London s hotter weather, it soonly became known as the rat infested city.
Another spreader of the Great Plague was fleas. Once the fleas had gotten ahold of the disease, they

Soon after there would be swelling around the armpits and private areas. These swellings would grow

first victims of the Black Plague was St Giles in the Fields church, where their death rates began to
rise in the dry summer. If someone was detected to have the plague they were locked into their homes
for 40 days and 40 nights. Their door was also painted with a red cross to keep others out. The only

Comparison Of Percy Jackson Hero And Louis Braille
Title: Louis Braille and Percy Jackson Hero Essay
Louis Braille was the creator of Braille, which is a way for the blind to read and write. Louis Braille
wasn t born blind, but that doesn t mean he didn t cope with it. Being visually impaired was a struggle
he eventually had to face and accept as a part as himself. Braille is knowledge, and knowledge is
power. Said Louis Braille. This quote connects to The Hero s Journey because it shows that he is being
challenged by tasks, and his task was to put Braille to the public. Louis Braille became blind when he
was three years old. Louis was messing around with his father s tools, when he poked himself in the
eye with one of the sewing tools. The infection that it gave off spread to the other eye, and by the time
he was 5, he was completely blind. But if it weren t for his accident, the blind would still be using
night writing, which isn t efficient. Louis Braille is a historical figure that relates to The Hero s
Journey and that connects to Percy s journey because he went through life changing experiences. He
was a hero because he revolutionized literature for the blind.
Louis Braille is a hero because he overcame being uneducated, but made a way to educate the blind,
with Braille. According to The Famous People, Braille s parents encouraged him to lead a normal life
and the child did show a willingness to learn despite his handicap. Braille was blind and he went
through a lot in his childhood. In 1819, Braille was sent to

Descriptive Essay About Hot Chocolate
Scurrying along the copper colored brick road, people moved their way through the crowd. My family
and I were new to the state of Washington, and eager to explore the Pike Place Market. Tourists
crowded in front of the original Starbucks, taking pictures and forming a line. I shifted my weight and
waited impatiently in the filled to the brim coffee shop.
How much longer? I whined, crossing my arms and pouting my lips. The line was moving at sluggish
speed, and I was ready for my hot chocolate. After a moment of chatter, my parents decided that me
and my sister could wait outside and people watch. Relieved, and walking out of the shop, we were
welcomed by the cool fall air and rustle of coats.
The street was filled with strange items and odd people. Passing a couple of street singers, we spotted
a living statue. Covered all in silver, resembling a tin man, in a kneeling position. As we passed, its
eyes followed our gaze until we were again enveloped by the crowd. My sister jerked her arm, looked
back and quickened her walking speed.
Trying to catch up, I yelled, Camryn, slow down! Why are you walking so fast? She grabbed my hand
and dashed inside a nearby antique store. Looking out of the hazy window, she scanned the exterior for
the Starbucks. But her eyes stopped dead at the spot where the living statue had kneeled. She looked
back at me and looked as if she had seen a ghost. She said four words.
The statue is gone.

Analysis Of The Film For Colored Girls
Picture this, waking up every morning to a new issue to face, but not completely finishing the ones
from yesterday or last week. Imagine being overburdened with stress, low income, neglect, needs and
wants, death and heartbreak, but still having to function to survive for your loved ones. The film, For
Colored Girls , directed by Tyler Perry in 2010, narrates the lives of the everyday struggles of several
black women in Harlem, New York. Their lives connect together by the different hardships they face
from not only, being a woman of color, but a being woman in general. Tory Floyd s Interpersonal
Communication textbook, copy written in 2009, teaches communication concepts and how they affect
personal, academic, and professional relationships. The specific communication concepts seen
throughout this movie are the need to belong, profanity, slander, the power and control aspect of
haptics, sadness, denial, empathic listening and closeness. For Colored Girls , portrays the need to
belong. The need to belong is a theory that humans are born with the desire to want to form and
maintain relationships (Floyd, page 279). The women of the plot go through their own need to belong
in with their own individual situations and environments. For example, one of the main characters,
Crystal, doesn t leave an abusive relationship because of the history and the love she has with her high
school sweetheart. This ends up becoming a detrimental situation when he drops their two children

Food Stamp Reform Bill Proposal Essay
According to Reuters, approximately 47 million people receive Food Stamps. That equates to 1 in 8
Americans (Abbott). Food Stamps is away to supplement those who are having trouble finding jobs
and supporting their families. There are individuals who take it for granted, and abuse the system.
Many people apply yearly for assistance, but get turned away because their case is insufficient, or
there is simply not enough room to accommodate them. According to an article, states that since Food
Stamps are running out of funds and people are turning to food banks for support (Food Assistance

With that being said, it goes to show that the government is not in control. It is very hard to believe
that they did not catch this error long before. It makes me question the whole purpose of Food Stamps
in general.
People are selling their Foods Stamps through various methods like taking people to the store and
buying food. Individuals are making packaged deals to outsmart the system. For example, Food
Stamps are generally more than actual money because it is government funded. So therefore, non
assisted people are getting excessive food benefits, while the abuser is receiving cash.
The Baltimore Sun published an article about a two grocery clerks, who participated in a scandal that

It is unfair to those who pay their taxes see no good come from it. Although, it is their civic duty, they

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Speed Control Of Induction...
Abstract The three phase squirrel cage induction motor is the most widely used motor type in the
industry because of its good self starting capability, simple and rugged structure, low cost and
reliability. In spite of this popularity, the induction motor has two basic limitations: (i) The standard
motor is not a true constant speed machine, its full load slip varies from less than 1% (in high
horsepower motors) to more than 5% (in fractional horsepower motors), and (ii) It is not inherently
capable of providing variable speed operation. The limitations of induction motor can be solved
through the use of adjustable speed control method of induction machine. In this paper, various
method of speed control of induction motor drive are presented. ... Show more content on

Switching power converters offer an easy way to regulate both the frequency and magnitude of the
voltage and current applied to a motor shown in fig(1). As a result much higher efficiency and
performance can be achieved by these motor drives with less generated noises[3]. Figure 1 Variable
Voltage Variable Frequency Control Schematic The most common principle of this kind is the constant
V/Hz principle which requires that the magnitude and frequency of the voltage applied to the stator of
a motor maintain a constant ratio. By doing this, the magnitude of the magnetic field in the stator is
kept at an approximately constant level throughout the operating range. Thus, (maximum) constant
torque producing capability is maintained. When transient response is critical, switching power
converters also allow easy control of transient voltage and current applied to the motor to achieve
faster dynamic response. II. METHODS OF SPEED CONTROL OF INDUCTION MOTOR
Mathematically, relation between speed of induction motor and synchronous speed can be stated as, n
= (1 s) ns where n_s=120f/P which implies that there are two basic ways of speed control, namely Slip
control for fixed synchronous speed. Control of synchronous

Cold War Ethical Reflection
Reflection of the Cold War The Cold War, from 1945 to 1991, is one of the most important periods of
time that has greatly influenced and shaped the modern world. It was not just a battle between two
super powers, the USA and the Soviet Union, but also a clash of two really popular ideologies during
that time. There was the American claim of fighting for freedom and democracy and the Soviet claims
of fighting for the interests of the workers and the common people. Now in theory, these ideologies
seemed ethical, but throughout this period, both countries actions severely opposed the ideologies they
represented on numerous occasions. Some say it all came down to a competition of achieving the most
power and influence and just using what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Marshal Plan although was one of the greatest actions USA had taken and they gave about 13
million dollars in aid to the war devastated countries in order to help them rebuild. Some might argue
that they only did this to improve their trade business with these countries and to help form NATO in
order to compete with the Soviets and this is partially true. Other things they did which showed they
actually stood up for democracy was supporting the democratic revolutions in the Korean War, Polish
Solidarity Movement, and the Velvet Revolution. They not only did they do this for freedom, but also
to stop the authoritarian spread of Communism which they deemed highly undemocratic and even
propagandized it as evil especially during the Berlin Airlift which is one of the most famous
benevolent event that the USA orchestrated. But those were the only freedom fighting they took.
Everything else they did was highly undemocratic. USA has a tendency to overthrow foreign
government if they don t please their interests. Their first major anti freedom action was overthrowing
the democratically elected government of Iran simply because the new leader decided to nationalize
the oil for benefit of the Iranian People. Then they did the exact same thing in Guatemala because the
interests of their fruit companies were in danger. All of these overthrows were done through US
backed coups and the School of America played a key

A Diagnostic Tool For Renal Disease And Hypertensive...
Introduction Proteinuria is often used to detect the presence of any type of proteins in the urine and
serves as a diagnostic tool for renal disease and hypertensive disorders. Among those disorders, pre
eclampsia is characterized by low renal perfusion and leakage of proteins in urine due to a damaged
glomerular base membrane (1). This condition is associated with a high risk of maternal complications
and prenatal mortality. Pre eclampsia is usually defined as a combination of hypertension, edema and
proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation and is determined by a threshold of 300mg/24 hours of proteins
(2). Normal urine excretion is up to 150mg/day (3). The most common test used in antenatal care to
screen proteinuria is the visual reagent dipstick. It is a semi quantitative and colorimetric method. The
stick changes colour when the reagent (tetrabromophenol) binds to the proteins. The binding is pH
dependent (albumin binds at a pH between 5 and 7, other proteins bind only at a pH below). If the
urinalysis by the dipstick is positive, a 24 hour urine collection is performed in order to confirm the
proteinuria and to estimate the total amount of protein (4). Another method available for detecting
proteinuria is called the Bradford assay. This quantitative method is based on the binding of proteins
with the dye Coomassie Blue which increases the absorption of the dye at 595nm. The absorbance
measured by spectrophotometry is related to the amount of proteins present in the

St. Peterville City Case Study
1. The meeting I attended was the city of St. Augustine s special meeting to establish the city s fiscal
budget and millage rate for the upcoming year. It took place on September 22nd, at 5:05pm. The city
of St. Augustine holds its city commission meetings every second and fourth Monday of the month in
the Alcazar Room at City Hall, which is located at 75 King Street, St. Augustine, Florida. The meeting
s purpose was to establish the millage rate for the city and how allocate those funds into budget for
next year. The new millage rate of 7.500 mills was approved for the fiscal year of 2016 2017, which is
an increase of 5.47% from last year. Additionally, a new budget for the upcoming year was also
approved.

The first concept illustrated by this meeting was the concept of effective management and planning
covered in module 6. By the accounts of residents, it is clear that the city has not been effective in
previous years, in planning the restoration and preservation of local roads. The city has not been
proactive in planning which streets should be repaired, when, or to what those repairs should be. A
common complaint of residents was that the city appeared to be content on postponing repairs when it
would be more convenient and cost effective to handle the situation as soon as possible. I believe St.
Augustine should practice a more adaptive style of management and respond to changing conditions.
From listening to the meeting, it seems that the city originally underestimated the problems plaguing
their roads and decided that certain areas could stand to wait for repairs. From the accounts of citizens,
it is clear that philosophy is not going to stand anymore. In my opinion, I think the city needs to be
more proactive and handle the deteriorating condition of their roads a lot sooner than later, and at the
very least re evaluate old plans. The second concept demonstrated was collective action. Collective
action is defined as a coordinated effort of several individuals or groups, who cooperate to accomplish
specific goals. What was originally just a basic meeting to approve a budget quickly turned into a
discussion on a major public issue due to the words of several speakers.

Its being frequently used has made the exact definition of awareness been left undetermined.
Nevertheless, the term of awareness is perpetually accompanied with the level of knowledge, as seen
the studies of Aadam T. Aris (2012), Joyce K.H. Nga (2010) and Indrani R. Halady, 2010), or with
certain level of engagement in the practice (Faisal Talib, 2012), or recognition and assigning oneself to
the subject matter (Gudmundur Aevar Oddsson, 2010), or understanding and perception (Diana
Bowman, 2007), or exposure to subject without in depth knowledge (Donna Morrison, 2012) or even
relating awareness to the fact of knowing the existence of the subject matter, differentiating it from
knowledge (Akinniyi A. Adeleke, 2012). A research was also conducted to investigate a level of
awareness by asking the respondents to rate their performance as to prove their level of awareness
towards their physical activities, and this was even validated with heart rate monitors and
accelerometers (Stef P.J. Kremers, 2008). Appreciation on the other hand brings along a different
dimension. Superficially the term appreciate denotes liking and preferability. In Alain d Astous (2007),
he enjoined the meaning of appreciation with favoritism, attachment, probability to recommend to
others, high rated, love and pleasure. Besides that, Fagley (2012) in Adler and Fagley (2005) defined
appreciation as acknowledging meaning and value of something an

Ethos Pathos Logos In Julius Caesar
In Julius Caesar by Shakespeare there are three persuasions, these persuasions are called logos, ethos,
and pathos. Logos, pathos, and ethos are three utensils used by Shakespeare in Caesar s funeral
presented by Mark Antony. Ethos is appeal based on the character of the speaker, Logos is appeal
based on logic or reason and Pathos is appeal based on emotion (Examples). Antony uses these three
utensils to turn the Roman crowd of citizens against the conspirators with an exciting persuasive
speech.
What does logos mean? Logos can be facts that are used to persuade someone (Ethos). Mark Antony
uses many facts throughout his speech. One of the key facts in his speech is; When that the poor have
cried, Caesar hath wept (Shakespeare). To use this is extremely intelligent by Mark Antony since most
of the people that he is trying to persuade aren t the richest people in Rome. Therefor, when he uses
poor as the type of people that Caesar cried for, the crowd thinks that it is wrong to brutally murder
someone who cared so much for them that they opened their eyes to Mark Antony and really took in
what he was saying by thinking that Caesar was the best thing for them (Shakespeare). ... Show more

The Nineteen Five Theses On The Power And Efficacy Of...
When Martin Luther wrote the Ninety Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences in 1517,
he was making a bold and unprecedented move: challenging the Catholic Church. As a German
Catholic priest himself, Luther was not afraid to condemn the Catholic Church, even publicly, which is
how he displayed the original copy of the theses. Luther s issue with the church wasn t personal but
was instead based on what he saw as violation of the religious morals and teachings of God. For
example, he highly disapproved the church s several claims of salvation and forgiveness on earth. The
ninety five theses acted as Luther s tool of protest against the church and also acted as enlightenment
to the masses. Publication of the theses is also often noted as the spark that initiated the Protestant
Reformation after centuries of religious tension buildup. Luther s overall disapproval was against the
corruption and dishonesty of the church (Bishop, p.1). In the theses, Luther outlined what and how he
believed the Catholic Church was doing wrong and how it should be corrected. He argues against the
church s abuse of power and the way it took advantage of its members. What the ninety five theses did
was outline two major points: the selling and buying of indulgences as well as the issue of purgatory
regarding to God, the Catholic Church and the Pope.
The forefront issue in the ninety five theses deals with indulgences. Luther delves deeply into how and
why indulgences were sold by the

enclosing the Earth. The composition of the atmosphere for example, oxygen, is imperative to the
evolution of the Earth. The atmosphere of the Earth is comparable to the nearby terrestrial planet such
as Mars and Venus. Given that the average distance and the size of Venus from the sun is 3/4 and 4/5
of the Earth, Venus has an atmosphere (Adams, 1934). Spectroscopic studies indicate that the
atmosphere of Venus does not show any markings representing the presence of oxygen and water

Another result in the same spectroscopic concluded that the Venus atmosphere contains a high
concentration of carbon dioxide, triggering a sever greenhouse effect (Adams, 1934). In addition to
Venus, the Mars with only one tenth by the mass of the Earth also has an atmosphere. Spectrograms

The Debate Over The Legalization of Marijuana Essay examples
In economics, a mixed market economy is one in which the actions of private businesses are affected
by public actions and decisions. In the United States, there are governmental actions that decided just
how much intervention will be used on a business. This is a redundant topic, as the two political
parties, Republican and Democrat, debate the issue frequently. The idea of laissez faire is a free market
economy where businesses have the right to do whatever they want. Republicans tend to lean towards
this ideal, while Democrats call for more governmental intervention on businesses. When deciding just
how much control will be used, one must look at all the benefits and costs. Not only must economic
benefits be asserted, but moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As far as the legalization of marijuana goes, there are three options that the government can choose.
The three options all have their own advantages and disadvantages that are compared and weighed.
The first option is the current one of complete criminalization of marijuana. This option provides
safety for the public, while limiting the freedoms of business. The second option that the government
has is the legalization of marijuana with the imposition of a tax. This idea provides a bit of safety,
because it can regulate the demand through price and makes the government tax revenue, but many
people feel that it is wrong for the government to be profiting from the trade of a drug. The last option
is the one of a complete free market. This ideal allows freedom of businesses, but is generally unsafe
and promotes the use of drugs. The costs and benefits must be weighed out in order to see which
option provides the best situation for the country. In the option of having the complete criminalization
of marijuana, the right to freedom is completely violated. One does not have the right to do as he
pleases, because he would be breaking the law. In addition, the cost of police force is expensive. Tax
payers are forced to pay higher taxes for police force to monitor, prosecute and incarcerate those
convicted. Because so much time of the police is going into monitoring marijuana, more serious
crimes are often missed such as murder and

What Is The Characterization Of The Little Prince
Identification with the Little Prince s Fox Throughout the short children s novel, The Little Prince by
Antoine de Saint Exupery, the Little Prince encounters a variety of different characters, all showing
him or teaching him something about life. My favorite character and the one that I can connect to most
is the Fox. The fox enlightens him on what it is truly is to be tamed. He shows him that you are
responsible for whatever you have tamed, whether it be a pet, a person, or even a rose. When the Little
Prince first stumbled across the fox, he would not go anywhere near him. The fox informed him that if
he wanted to get to know him, he would have to have patience and tame him. He then further
explained how he has never been tamed before, and requested that the Little Prince would do so. Little
by little, each day the Little Prince would get closer and closer to the Fox, at last being able to pet him.
The Fox grew to anticipate seeing the Little Prince at the same time daily, located in the same place.
He grew to love the Little Prince, leading them to establish ties. The Little Prince was not just any
little boy to him anymore. Now that the Fox was tamed, it is time for the Little Prince to leave. The
Fox begins to weep and the Little Princes worries that taming the Fox did not do him any good.

  • 2. Netflix Inc. Essay Netflix Inc. Company Background Netflix Inc. incorporated in 1997 and made its first public offering in 2002. Netflix is an online movie rental service which provides its 3,000,000 subscribers access to over 40,000 DVD titles. Although Netflix stocks nearly every title available on DVD, it does not stock titles containing adult content. The Netflix program allows subscribers to rent as many DVD s as they want, and keep them for as long as they want. Three DVD s can be out at a time, as soon as one is returned the next DVD on the subscriber generated movie list is shipped out. The DVD s are delivered for free by the United States Postal Service from regional distribution centers located throughout the United States. Netflix can have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The video rental stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood Video have suffered from dramatic drops in VHS rental spending. But new companies such as Netflix have enjoyed strong growth. Ticket sales for movie theaters are down nearly 6% since 2002. This is due in part by some movie goers deciding to pass on the theatre and wait for the DVD. This is because the average price of a ticket is over $6 today and some markets charge up to $10. With the cost of a DVD falling toward the $15 price range, and unlimited rentals for under $20, many people are opting for the convenience and savings of skipping the theatre. The television industry has found that consumer spending on TV programs on DVD can reach $5 million per episode. With programming costs sky rocketing this revenue will change program development and ownership patterns. Hollywood studios are the big winners in the new industry trend. Their home video business is now called home entertainment, and since 2002 has been increasing its focus on the DVD format. This may be the reasoning behind the DVD releases of blockbuster movies shortly after their theatre run. DVD s continue to grow more popular with existing users and in 2005 DVD s are expected to convert more than 15,000 new households to its format every day. These new customers will bring new behaviors and preferences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Positive And Negative Effects Of American Imperialism In my point of view, the colonial period shifted the balance previously present throughout the world, in which imperialism had less relevance in everyday lives. Before the colonial period, the natives living in the Americas and the Caribbeans, mainly had internal fighting or conflicts between rival tribes. While in Europe, the most tension occurred between major empires competing for trade, land, recourses, and wealth. However, once the Europeans began colonizing America, both of the worlds collided in a massive fight for sovereignty and wealth. This can be seen in each country s colonization of America. In the French colonization, the colonist traded advanced weaponry to the Huron tribe for fur and strong alliances. Consequently, the natives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the colonial period, portrayed a time in which a variety of people were severely abused and many conflicts were provoked, there were also many positive sides towards the American colonization. This positive side promoted societal growth and increased numerous countries` wealth dramatically. For example, the English found an outlet to employ many of their low class peasants in their Chesapeake colonization, and also found a way to produce large amounts of rice, tobacco, and many more exports. In addition to obtaining expensive goods and recourses, American colonization gave European empires the opportunity to expand their rule across oceans. However, In some situations this reaped negative results, such as the British attempt to excessively control their colonies by unconstitutionally issuing new taxes. One can even go as far to say that American colonization led to the separation of the British empire. Thus, there were both positive and negative aspects towards American colonization, but if all the senseless deaths were worth the society we have today, will be a question debated for many ... • 4. Auditors And The International Financial Reporting Standards Introduction: Auditors, accountants, and companies must comply with the regulations as recommended by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Disputes concerning convergence issues and compliance may arise between companies and the auditors. In the case of dispute, the companies and the auditor should consider alternative dispute resolving mechanisms which are faster, less expensive and less adversarial than traditional litigation. Reason for Conflict: Audited financial statements may be a source of dispute between the auditor and management. The process of audit resolution would entail negotiating them. Knapp (1985, p. 202) proposes the way that auditors approach these conflicts play a big role on the auditors independence and the content of the results and the credibility of the financial statements. Controversy threatens the success of the firm, resolving controversy will help reduce the agency cost hence minimizing the expenses to be incurred. Resolving audit disputes would also be serving the interest of the shareholders. Areas of Dispute: Audit disputes may arise in areas such as fraud investigations, malpractice claims, fee disputes, the purpose of internal auditors and the appropriate application of the accepted accounting practices. How The Conflict Arises: In these cases, auditor s must inform their clients about their roles and the responsibility of the companies accounting function against those of the external auditors. In her autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, she details her intimate experiences as a young African American woman facing the challenges of growing up in the Jim Crow South during the mid twentieth century. In the first section of the book, Moody recollects her life living in extreme poverty and battling racial distinctions at a young age. She finally came to a realization that the treatment of blacks in this country was unjust and cruel. While growing into a beautiful woman, she also learns of the NAACP and their efforts to overthrow racial inequality. She then transferred to Tougaloo College for her final two years of college where she began taking part in the Movement. Here, Moody joined the NAACP. From the sit in at Woolworth s in Jackson to numerous protests within the area, she allowed the struggle of her people to pave the way to her membership in CORE. • 7. Should Testing Be Used Ineffective And Inefficient... Title Most students study to prepare for exams, but many may be using ineffective and inefficient strategies. Cramming and simply rereading or restudying material does not lead to long term retention, yet many students report cramming prior to an exam by re reading chapters in their text and restudying their notes. Teachers encourage students to highlight and restudy, even though there may be a better way for students to spend their time studying. The testing effect is a well researched phenomenon that may have a valuable application in a classroom setting: self testing may help enhance student learning and increase retention along with test scores. The testing effect, or later retention that occurs because of an initial test, was questioned at one point in time. Could the testing effect merely be showing the benefits that come along with re exposure to study materials? Roediger Karpicke (2006) designed a study that would rule out the possibility that the benefit of testing was merely due to the re exposure to study materials and also replicate the testing effect under educationally relevant conditions by using educationally relevant materials. The results showed that initial testing produced better final recall than additional studying. This proved that the testing effect IS NOT just a result of students being re exposed to material, as students who restudied and re experienced 100% of the material produced poor long term retention in comparison to those who were ... Here is one of many definitions of the word Identity from the Merriam Webster dictionary, The relation established by psychological identification Who am I? What am I doing here? What is my purpose in life? These are frequently asked questions within the minds of teenagers and young adults. In this day and age, there have been times where many teens and young adults have tried to find psychologically where they belong in the world and where they might discover their identity. Some will try to find their identity in other people, (i.e Celebrities, Singers, etc.) and others will find their identity in what they listen to, or the movies they watch, and will try to take on those personas. Because in today s society it is easier to mask who you are, rather than discover what you are capable of. In this discourse we are going to take a look at some examples of identity, and how we can better understand the meaning of it and how we can apply it to today. Issue of Identity #1: In David Hume s Bundle Theory of The Self, he states that there is no fixed self (or identity) but rather they are all mere perceptions. While away, people will inevitably attempt to steal your possessions, seduce your spouse, and act as though you will never return. Most likely, more people will try to harm your estate than those who will continue working and behaving in an honest manner. This notion holds true in Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey. While Odysseus wages war and struggles to return to Ithaka , a multitude of suitors court his wife and live at the cost of his possessions. Abstract The three phase squirrel cage induction motor is the most widely used motor type in the industry because of its good self starting capability, simple and rugged structure, low cost and reliability. In spite of this popularity, the induction motor has two basic limitations: (i) The standard motor is not a true constant speed machine, its full load slip varies from less than 1% (in high horsepower motors) to more than 5% (in fractional horsepower motors), and (ii) It is not inherently capable of providing variable speed operation. The limitations of induction motor can be solved through the use of adjustable speed control method of induction machine. In this paper, various method of speed control of induction motor drive are presented. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Switching power converters offer an easy way to regulate both the frequency and magnitude of the voltage and current applied to a motor shown in fig(1). As a result much higher efficiency and performance can be achieved by these motor drives with less generated noises[3]. Figure 1 Variable Voltage Variable Frequency Control Schematic The most common principle of this kind is the constant V/Hz principle which requires that the magnitude and frequency of the voltage applied to the stator of a motor maintain a constant ratio. By doing this, the magnitude of the magnetic field in the stator is kept at an approximately constant level throughout the operating range. Thus, (maximum) constant torque producing capability is maintained. When transient response is critical, switching power converters also allow easy control of transient voltage and current applied to the motor to achieve faster dynamic response. II. • 26. A Diagnostic Tool For Renal Disease And Hypertensive... Introduction Proteinuria is often used to detect the presence of any type of proteins in the urine and serves as a diagnostic tool for renal disease and hypertensive disorders. Among those disorders, pre eclampsia is characterized by low renal perfusion and leakage of proteins in urine due to a damaged glomerular base membrane (1). This condition is associated with a high risk of maternal complications and prenatal mortality. Pre eclampsia is usually defined as a combination of hypertension, edema and proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation and is determined by a threshold of 300mg/24 hours of proteins (2). Normal urine excretion is up to 150mg/day (3). The most common test used in antenatal care to screen proteinuria is the visual reagent dipstick. It is a semi quantitative and colorimetric method. The stick changes colour when the reagent (tetrabromophenol) binds to the proteins. The binding is pH dependent (albumin binds at a pH between 5 and 7, other proteins bind only at a pH below). If the urinalysis by the dipstick is positive, a 24 hour urine collection is performed in order to confirm the proteinuria and to estimate the total amount of protein (4). Another method available for detecting proteinuria is called the Bradford assay. From listening to the meeting, it seems that the city originally underestimated the problems plaguing their roads and decided that certain areas could stand to wait for repairs. From the accounts of citizens, it is clear that philosophy is not going to stand anymore. In my opinion, I think the city needs to be more proactive and handle the deteriorating condition of their roads a lot sooner than later, and at the very least re evaluate old plans. The second concept demonstrated was collective action. Collective action is defined as a coordinated effort of several individuals or groups, who cooperate to accomplish specific goals. What was originally just a basic meeting to approve a budget quickly turned into a discussion on a major public issue due to the words of several speakers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its being frequently used has made the exact definition of awareness been left undetermined. Nevertheless, the term of awareness is perpetually accompanied with the level of knowledge, as seen the studies of Aadam T. Aris (2012), Joyce K.H. Nga (2010) and Indrani R. Halady, 2010), or with certain level of engagement in the practice (Faisal Talib, 2012), or recognition and assigning oneself to the subject matter (Gudmundur Aevar Oddsson, 2010), or understanding and perception (Diana Bowman, 2007), or exposure to subject without in depth knowledge (Donna Morrison, 2012) or even relating awareness to the fact of knowing the existence of the subject matter, differentiating it from knowledge (Akinniyi A. Adeleke, 2012). A research was also conducted to investigate a level of awareness by asking the respondents to rate their performance as to prove their level of awareness towards their physical activities, and this was even validated with heart rate monitors and accelerometers (Stef P.J. Logos, pathos, and ethos are three utensils used by Shakespeare in Caesar s funeral presented by Mark Antony. Ethos is appeal based on the character of the speaker, Logos is appeal based on logic or reason and Pathos is appeal based on emotion (Examples). Antony uses these three utensils to turn the Roman crowd of citizens against the conspirators with an exciting persuasive speech. What does logos mean? Logos can be facts that are used to persuade someone (Ethos). Mark Antony uses many facts throughout his speech. One of the key facts in his speech is; When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept (Shakespeare). To use this is extremely intelligent by Mark Antony since most of the people that he is trying to persuade aren t the richest people in Rome. In one of the huts we found a rare falmer book, it looks like the librarian at the Winterhold college may pay well for it, so we took it along. We both agree, once we are done here, we do not want to see another falmer or another chaurus for a long time. Imagine my relief when we found the final shrine and filled the ewer. We headed towards the inner sanctum, where we should find out what has gone wrong with Gelebor s brother and why he is no longer responding. The sanctum is an impressive looking building, it s a shame it is abandoned and no longer used. Pouring the water at the entrance caused the doors to open so we could venture inside; the inside looks just as impressive. As we moved deeper inside it was full of skeletons of the worshippers and frozen falmer, trapped where they were standing. • 35. The Nineteen Five Theses On The Power And Efficacy Of... When Martin Luther wrote the Ninety Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences in 1517, he was making a bold and unprecedented move: challenging the Catholic Church. As a German Catholic priest himself, Luther was not afraid to condemn the Catholic Church, even publicly, which is how he displayed the original copy of the theses. Luther s issue with the church wasn t personal but was instead based on what he saw as violation of the religious morals and teachings of God. For example, he highly disapproved the church s several claims of salvation and forgiveness on earth. The ninety five theses acted as Luther s tool of protest against the church and also acted as enlightenment to the masses. Publication of the theses is also often noted as the spark that initiated the Protestant Reformation after centuries of religious tension buildup. Luther s overall disapproval was against the corruption and dishonesty of the church (Bishop, p.1). In the theses, Luther outlined what and how he believed the Catholic Church was doing wrong and how it should be corrected. He argues against the church s abuse of power and the way it took advantage of its members. What the ninety five theses did was outline two major points: the selling and buying of indulgences as well as the issue of purgatory regarding to God, the Catholic Church and the Pope. The forefront issue in the ninety five theses deals with indulgences. Luther delves deeply into how and why indulgences were sold by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No matter how the Earth s magnetic field was formed, it prevents the atmosphere being stripped away by the solar wind (Staff, 2010). Atmosphere: The atmosphere is the outermost, thin layer enclosing the Earth. The composition of the atmosphere for example, oxygen, is imperative to the evolution of the Earth. The atmosphere of the Earth is comparable to the nearby terrestrial planet such as Mars and Venus. Given that the average distance and the size of Venus from the sun is 3/4 and 4/5 of the Earth, Venus has an atmosphere (Adams, 1934). Spectroscopic studies indicate that the atmosphere of Venus does not show any markings representing the presence of oxygen and water vapour, even if these elements, once, had been appearing on Venus, they were consumed by the crust. Another result in the same spectroscopic concluded that the Venus atmosphere contains a high concentration of carbon dioxide, triggering a sever greenhouse effect (Adams, 1934). In addition to Venus, the Mars with only one tenth by the mass of the Earth also has an atmosphere. Spectrograms studies raised significant markings on λ8300 and λ8700 recognizes the appearance of water and carbon dioxide respectively on the Mars atmosphere(Kaplan et. al., 1964). The Debate Over The Legalization of Marijuana Essay examples In economics, a mixed market economy is one in which the actions of private businesses are affected by public actions and decisions. In the United States, there are governmental actions that decided just how much intervention will be used on a business. This is a redundant topic, as the two political parties, Republican and Democrat, debate the issue frequently. The idea of laissez faire is a free market economy where businesses have the right to do whatever they want. Republicans tend to lean towards this ideal, while Democrats call for more governmental intervention on businesses. When deciding just how much control will be used, one must look at all the benefits and costs. Not only must economic benefits be asserted, but moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As far as the legalization of marijuana goes, there are three options that the government can choose. The three options all have their own advantages and disadvantages that are compared and weighed. The first option is the current one of complete criminalization of marijuana. This option provides safety for the public, while limiting the freedoms of business. The second option that the government has is the legalization of marijuana with the imposition of a tax. This idea provides a bit of safety, because it can regulate the demand through price and makes the government tax revenue, but many people feel that it is wrong for the government to be profiting from the trade of a drug. The last option is the one of a complete free market. This ideal allows freedom of businesses, but is generally unsafe and promotes the use of drugs. The costs and benefits must be weighed out in order to see which option provides the best situation for the country. In the option of having the complete criminalization of marijuana, the right to freedom is completely violated. One does not have the right to do as he pleases, because he would be breaking the law. In addition, the cost of police force is expensive. Tax payers are forced to pay higher taxes for police force to monitor, prosecute and incarcerate those convicted. Because so much time of the police is going into monitoring marijuana, more serious crimes are often missed such as murder and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
