Allegory Of The Cave, By Dick Gregory s Shame And...
When discussing reality, several questions emerge regarding what reality is. A reality, the real situation
that exist, (Merriam Webster.com) consists of two forms perceived reality and actual reality. One
spends his or her entire life trying to decipher the difference between the two forms; yet to truly
understand reality, it is essential that you comprehend both. Plato s Allegory of the Cave, Dick
Gregory s Shame and Frederick Douglass Learning to Read and Write illustrate examples of both
perceptions. Furthermore, how conceptualization of reality helps establish who one will become.
Perceived reality is one s interpretation of what is genuine and false, wrong and right, what is real and
what is not. Because of this, one s surroundings and associates can also influence one s perception of
what is authentic; consequently, one s belief in perceived truth can be distorted. The depiction of a
physical world filled with misrepresented and inadequate images of existence, in Allegory of the
Cave, confirms this assertion. Shadows symbolize fact and those who were chained consider nothing
besides the artifacts as the unhidden (Plato). Similarly to Plato, Gregory s Shame, portrays his teacher
s assumptions that he was stupid, couldn t spell, couldn t read, and couldn t do arithmetic (Shame 5).
She regarded him as ignorant, based solely on his inability to concentrate in class or sit still. Gregory
also describes his obliviousness of shames existence.

Southernisation And Southernization
When studying history, one may generally focus on European culture and its effects on the rest of the
world. Southernization is the development of Southern Asian cultures and how they truly affected
most cultures on the Eurasian and American continents. Southernization, though quite unheard of by
most people, is very important to modern day Europe and the effects of westernization. Though
southernization incorporates all of South Asia, it focuses more on the impact India had on China and
other regions. Without southernization, westernization would not have developed, logistically by
exchange of mathematics and philosophy, technologically through advancements in maritime trade,
and economically specifically the trade of produce like sugarcane.
Although the west did have its own cultivation of knowledge, the majority of westernized thinking
originated in India and other Southern Asian countries. The people of India invented Hindi numerals.
Arabs gave these numerals the title, Hindi numbers . These numerals included the concept of zero and
allowed mathematicians to make fast, accurate calculations. Once Arabs had begun using the Indians
numerals and concept of zero, Europeans were then introduced to these concepts and called them Arab
numerals . Chinese used Indian mathematical concepts but advanced the ideas which allowed them to
expand in that field of knowledge. The methods that the Chinese used based off of the ideas of
Indians, shows how methods were spread. Since the

Blindness in Ramayana Essays
Blindness in Ramayana
Temporal Blindness is where we are time blinded to what actually is going on in life due to a focus on
what is going on right now at this moment. It is as if we put something major important in the back of
our minds and then our actions are greatly dependent on that important thing we put in the back of our
mind. In the Ramayana, Ravana is temporally blind when he decides to capture Sita, which ultimately
leads to his death.
When Rama, his beloved wife Sita, and his helpful brother Lakshmana are forced to exile for fourteen
years, they encounter many demons. Rama is ultimately put to the test when he has to find his beloved
wife that has been captured by the demon herself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ravana was temporally blind into seeing this occurring in the future because of his overwhelming
obsession with Sita; at the time Soopanaka was in love with Rama. Ravana could have prevented his
death by not capturing the love of Rama, which causes Rama to go on the ultimate quest into finding
her and by doing so he kills the evil Ravana in revenge of him steeling Sita. He also could have
prevented his death by letting Sita go back to Rama, so his life wouldn t be in such danger.
Temporal blindness can also be seen in my life today. I would say that our country and our president
were blind on September 11. I think we could have prevented it from happening if we had paid
attention to what was actually going on in life. I think many people here in the United States took their
life for granted. The attacks on September 11 put everyone s life into perspective and opened their
eyes from that blindness that was blocking them from seeing what was actually occurring in the real
world. I think many people before September 11 were just living it up. I think we all believed we lived
in this perfect world where everything was going just right, until there was a pit stop that changed our
lives forever. The stock market then went

Nonverbal Communication In My Family
For Thanksgiving, my family came to my house. My family was excited to meet the new boyfriend of
my cousin, Kelley. This would be our first time meeting him (other than stalking him on Facebook). I
picked Thanksgiving because it is an event that is filled with nonverbal communication. Whenever my
family gets together, I usually expect really loud laughter coming from someone at any given time.
Furthermore, the whole room is just really loud in general. We usually talk in loud volumes, speak
with our hands, make eye contact, hug, and lean forward when we are talking to each other. All of
these nonverbal communication norms say that everyone in our family gets along and loves each other
very much. But, bring a newbie into our group and I thought things would change. I was wrong.
When Kelley and Michael (her boyfriend) first arrived, there was a loud greeting from my mom. She
was complementing, or [expressing] nonverbal behaviors [that] match the thoughts and emotions [of]
the communicator, with her warm smile on her face (Adler and Proctor 217). She used paralanguage
to illustrate her excitement. Paralanguage refers to a message spoken [in a way that] can give the same
word or words many meanings (Adler and Proctor 230). In this context, she raised her voice in order
to show that she was excited to see Kelley and Michael. Upon her greeting, she raised her hands in
order to signal that she was going in for a hug. This gesture set precedent for the rest of the

Health Care for Migrant Farm Workers Essay
Although agriculture is one of the most hazardous jobs in the United States, there is a huge gap in
healthcare for those that work in the industry. Due to the large migrant and seasonal worker
population, especially those from Mexico, it is a hard population to reach when it comes to healthcare
needs. Fear, language barriers and cultural norms are all barriers that need to be addressed for this
special population. (Holmes 2011) Agriculture is one of the most hazardous occupations in the United
States. In 2000, there were 780 deaths and 130,000 disabling injuries in agriculture. The only industry
that had more deaths was construction, with 1,220. (Hansen and Donohoe 2003) Migrant workers face
numerous barriers to medical care, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These results are useful for targeting injury prevention efforts and future research needs for this
unique worker population. (Wang, Myers et al. 2011) Those that experience food insecurity and
hunger are at an increased risk for occupational injury and illness when compared to those that were
food secure. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010)Food insecurity by definition is the lack of access at all times to
enough food for an active and healthy lifestyle due to socioeconomic and environmental barriers.
Hunger is the lack of access to sufficient food and eating regularly to prevent both stomach pain and
the desire to eat. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010) Out of the study participants, 63.8% were found to be food
insecure and 34.7% of those experienced hunger. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010)In addition to studying food
insecurity and hunger, this paper also looked at the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the
children of these farm workers. The majority of interviewed participants cited that they were
concerned about obesity and the related health problems. It was found that food secure families were
more likely to have children with overweight and obesity than those families that were food insecure.
This study illustrates the extreme health disparities related to diet in the MSFW population that needs
to be addressed. The Migrant Head Start Program, a health promotion program in North

Photoreceptors For Blindness
Giving the blind sight has been a dream for scientists. Just think about it, the blind being able to see
again or for the first time in their lives. But where is this miraculous solution? Is the solution in
replacing dead photoreceptors? For most people, blindness comes at birth, but for others, their sight
gradually decreases until they can t see at all. But studies show that blind peoples other senses have
been enhanced, making them Earth s real superheroes. There are many causes for blindness, but the
main reason is because of dead photoreceptors, which make electrical signals when hit by photons of
light. So the solution? The solution is replacing dead photoreceptors with gold and titanium oxide. As
said before, giving sight to the blind

Under Armour Competitive Forces
According to our text, there are 5 competitive forces that help shape strategy: competition from
existing players, supplier bargaining power, customer bargaining power, threat of new players, and
threat of substitutes. (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble Strickland, 2017).
Competition
Under Armour faces competition from Nike, the Adidas Group, as well as any new players.
Nike and the Adidas Group are larger corporations and therefore have more resources to develop new
products.
Supplier bargaining power
Having an assortment of suppliers reduces bargaining power
Customer bargaining power
Under Armour have customers from large retail chains, which gives them name recognition. These
large retail chains have some level of bargaining power.

increased, the net income increased greater than expenses. In 2011, total assets were 919,201 and grew
to 2,868,900 by 2015.
Nike has the highest competitive strength when compared to Under Armour and the Adidas Group.
The Adidas Group has the next highest competitive strength and Under Armour is up and coming. The
size of Nike and the Adidas Group is a competitive advantage over Under Armour. However, Under
Armour is definitely a competitor for Nike and the Adidas Group. Under Armour is getting more and
market share and name recognition.
1. Labor Bringing Under Armour into the international market requires management to address the
issue of labor. U.S. customer could view Under Armour as using cheap labor in various countries.

Decline In Cedar Trees
The article discusses three possible reasons for the decrease in the population of a specific species of
Cedar trees, named yellow Cedar. However, the professor states that none of these reasons could be
responsible for the decline in Cedar population. The professor s arguments to oppose the article are as
follows. First, the passage introduces insects such as bark beetle as a potential damaging factor.
According to the author, these insects might exploit trees as parasites. However, the professor refutes
this by referring to the fact that Cedar trees are indeed resistant plants against insects. Since the trees
are coated with toxic chemicals, they are somewhat immune against insects, thus bark beetle could not
cause damage and reduction of population in Cedar trees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As You Like It by William Shakespeare
In William Shakespeare s play, As You Like It, the protagonist, Rosalind, disguises herself as a boy for
the majority of the play. Rosalind is used by Shakespeare to help divulge a portion of Shakespeare s
personal life and also show flaws in the unique stereotypes that are expected for boys and girls.
Shakespeare s main use for Rosalind was to illustrate the unique features and characteristics that boys
and girls are expected to have and how easily they can be overlooked. Even though boys and girls are
both equal human beings, it was not thought to be this way in Shakespeare s time. Rosalind wanted to
do more than what a girl could do, and thus, she disguised herself and effectively became a man.
However, Shakespeare also uses Rosalind to help divulge some secrets that may have been present in
Shakespeare s personal life, such as an imposter Shakespeare.
Gender discrimination and stereotypes have been around since the dawn of time. Throughout the
centuries, it has always been believed that women should be confined to household and non strenuous
jobs such as: doing the housekeeping, raising children, tending to her husband s every need, and
teaching at schools. Gender discrimination is first illustrated in the Bible through 1st Timothy 2:12 by
saying, I do not permit a woman to teach or exercise authority over man; rather, she is to remain quiet
and also in Genesis 3:16, To the woman he said, I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in

Organizational conflict
Conflict is defined as any situation in which incompatible goals, attitudes, emotions, or behaviors lead
to disagreement or opposition between two or more parties (Nelson, 2013, p.472). In my line of work,
conflict is important and even relished; a collision of ideas, different approaches to achieve goals, and
passionate emotions are essential to group and/or individual creativity. Functional conflict can produce
new ideas, learning, and growth among individuals. When individuals engage in constructive conflict,
they develop a better awareness of themselves and others. Because it tends to encourage creativity
among individuals, this positive form of conflict can translate into increased productivity (Nelson,
2013, p.472). Focused conflict centered on achieving common goals often generates innovation. I
enjoy the passion of my Gen Y employees, and I have learned much from them by leveraging this
conflict. Yes, some might see me as one who starts trouble, but my intention is to bring out the best of
those in my sphere of influence. Over the years, I have learned a few key factors in functional conflict:
1) Debate along the way don t hold back and explode down the line, 2) Maintain goal perspective don
t attack individuals attack the goal, and 3) Celebrate differences embracing individual uniqueness
generates value. One effective technique for resolving conflict is to appeal to a superordinate goal in
effect, to focus the parties on a larger issue on which

Ability s Inability ( Rough Draft )
Ability s Inability (Rough Draft)
When considering Christian allegories that have been written through the years, one has stood out
from the rest. This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many readers.
In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is, with Rights
of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement: Bunyan and Paine,
with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes which make up the raw
material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). The Pilgrim s Progress was written by John
Bunyan in February of 1678. At the time, Bunyan titled it The Pilgrim s Progress from This World to
That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream . In modern publications of the
work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s Progress, Part II has been added at the end
of the original tale. Although the two tales were not originally published back to back, reading them
one after the other shows the striking differences between them. Bunyan specifically used different
events, people, and circumstance in the two different parts to symbolically show how Christian life
can vary greatly depending upon the individual.
John Bunyan s readers wanted the story in The Pilgrim s Progress to continue beyond the original tale.
Two years after publishing the original story, Bunyan wrote his first sequel to The Pilgrim s Progress

Jacobins Viewpoints
There are very rare cases in with society can see eye to eye on every situation, thus arguments arise
and two to three viewpoints are created. France is no exception, in Brain Jenkins schema Order versus
Movement, Reaction versus Progress, Catholicism versus Anti clericalism, Right versus Left he sheds
light on how France may be homogeneous and fragmented. Two oppose groups are thus created, the
Girondins and the Jacobins. There are many differences between the Girondins and the Jacobins as
each group s viewpoint clash. Both of their conflicting viewpoints are striving for for the same end
goal: to secure and foster their nation. This notion has a correlation to present day United States of

The government should be second to the people, no matter what the orders were. The Jacobins get
their name from the Jacobin Monastery where they frequently met. They wanted a centralized
government and were comprised of cruel hearted people that were more often than not very poorly
educated and poor in wealth that wanted to get involved. While on the other hand the Girondins were
led by Jean Marie Roland and his wife Marie Roland. The majority of the Girondins came from an
area called Gironde, and were much more wealthy and honest as compared to the Jacobins. The
district of Gironde was made up of people of high intellect. The Girondins urged citizens to stop the
violence while Jacobins encouraged the bloodshed. At the begging of the struggle there was a wide
gap between the Girondins and the Jacobins, as the Jacobins were seen as the minority. The Girondins
saw themselves as strong enough to dissolve the Jacobins and may have gotten a little cocky as a
result. The minister of War, Pache switched from the Girondins to the Jacobins in 1972, and just a year

The Stamp Act and the Tea Act
Screaming occurred as a group of men argued while deciding to form into a group to go against things
they knew they had the rights too and to shape their powers. They were frustrated because they knew
that American s had more rights and that more could have been done. Starting from the Loyal Nine s
and wealthy families, the Sons of Liberty achieved many things , their ideas were best expressed
through the rights they determined Americans had, what roles they each played in saving those rights
and how important they thought those rights were. They got together and formed in 1765, in Boston
right after the stamp act and that s originally where they got their name. They had another name that
they were also known as called the loyalist. They had quite an amount of members and they all were
helpful in some way. The men s who leaded this party were John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Paul
Revere. Altogether those that formed the Sons of Liberty were helpful because they helped get the
group out there. The Sons of liberty had publishers, writers and they had a very good start to be out
there and become known. They did keep their little organization alittle secret, just because they didn t
want anyone to find out, along the secret meetings they had, they had secret things they said to each
other. Conducted into codes so no one can know what they were saying, it was a smart way of sharing
things to not actually reveal their stuff and ruin their plans.

Polygamy in the United States
Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses at one time, and has been considered a
controversial social and legal topic in society, gaining attention as a subject in which multiple opinions
are held. As the topic has become a part of mainstream culture through media accounts of polygamist
families by news outlets and reality television, confusion has emerged in reference to its main
characteristics and legitimacy as a form of marriage. However, this kind of marriage is intriguing
because it enters more than two individuals into the union, potentially causing a change in husband
wife dynamics. In particular, polygamy with multiple wives proves to be more common in media
accounts of these relationships. That being said, appreciating this form of marriage, as in any union,
requires an understanding of how the different social players behave and the general interactions of
the husband wife relationships. Likewise, it is important to understand how this type of union
exemplifies the typical United States ideals of marriage. With more information regarding polygamist
marriages, society can better understand its similarities and differences from normative patterns,
ultimately eliminating some of the stigma placed on the husbands and wives of these relationships.
Literature Review Like many social trends, marriage in the United States has changed over time.
Investigation of these trends can aid in the comprehension of the status of marriage in our society,

Torchy s Tacos
For the last few months, there has been a hype over a local taco joint called Torchy s Tacos located on

someone who is a lover of tacos, including breakfast tacos, I knew I would be a tough critic over
Torchy s. After I went to Torchy s twice, I decided to give it two thumbs up.
I love Mexican food, and as a native of Texas I ve had plenty of it in my sixteen years of life. Just as a
disclaimer, if you are not a fanatic of spicy foods, I would not suggest Torchy s to you. From my first
trip, I tried the queso first which contains green chile, quacamole, and diablo hot sauce, but as a lover
of fiery foods, I fairly enjoyed this. Their chips are made homemade style and the only negative thing
I would say is their chips are made too thin for their queso. The queso weighs too heavily on the chip
breaking them in half 9 out of 10 times you go in for a delicious bite. The chips themselves are
excellent, but I would suggest making them a bit thicker in order to enjoy ... Show more content on

Porter s 3 Competitive Strategies In The Case Of Etihad...
Porter s 3 generic strategies is a tool of measuring whether a company is following cost leadership,
differentiation or focus strategy approaches. In cost leadership approach, the company is having a
competitive advantage by offering competitive low prices. In the case of Etihad, the company is not
offering a low cost strategy because they want to be characterized as a prestigious airline that has
competitive advantage among others.
Differentiation is the factor where Porter analyzes the industry as having different offers from the
others. In the case of Etihad Airlines, it is differentiated from their competitors because of
differentiated prices, differentiated flight classes and offering. For example, the price of Etihad

This question can be answered by taking following 3 things in consideration.

This can be better explained by detailing his strengths and weaknesses.
1.1.1 Strengths:
As per Luc Bonnard, they trust him 100%, he has courage, he is young and flexible, he is generalist
not specialist, and willing to go to India.
So here is the list of his strengths with the reason why this strength makes him the right candidate for

information we can conclude that the work was not done as per the plan and so the work was not
good.
If we just look at the end result, we may overlook the best management team that Mr. Napoli had
created. We may also overlook the groundwork Mr. Napoli had done for the start up in India.
„Ï Summary:
After carefully evaluating all the 3 points mentioned above, I can conclude that Mr Napoli was

my view the problem was with the aggressive business plan. I can see 2 flows with the business plan.

The Atomic Bomb Was Built During Ww2
The atomic bomb was built during ww2 and was a major factor in winning the war against the
japanese. Germany began to develop the atomic bomb and roosevelt caught wind of this and he put a
group of scientist together to develop the atomic bomb before the germans developed it. Einstein
found proof that the germans were going to use uranium to build the atomic bomb I understand that
Germany has actually stopped the sale of uranium from the Czechoslovakian mines, which she has
taken over (Einstein).Soon a letter from albert einstein after hearing about the germans trying to build
a bomb said that through the work of Joliot in france as well as fermi and szilard in america that it
may be possible to set up a nuclear chain reaction in a large mass of uranium (Einstein). After a while
of working on the first atomic bomb it was finally made and codenamed Gadget and tested in the

What Is The Hunger In Nigeria
Jocelyn Bennett
Instructor Williamson
ENG III
8 December 2017
The Hunger in Nigeria The world s hunger is ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man s shampoo
than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and of those 450,000
are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving the appropriate amount
of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a substantial amount of unhealthy
food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is strictly not obtaining
enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that need help in getting food to its people.
Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to
conflict and needs to be decreased due to it causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for
viruses to spread throughout the country. The question the whole world has been asking is why the
amount of Nigeria s malnourished population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko
Haram. Boko Haram is a group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout
Nigeria. The group is making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as
their everyday life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their
cities once again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko
Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has managed
to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of Nigeria. This can
be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it s hardest to
recapture the sites taken, especially Borno. Unfortunately, Boko Haram hasn t been stopped yet and
the number of malnourished natives is rapidly increasing.
According to Inland Valley Daily, each day, about 29,000 children worldwide die from hunger and
preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections
(Guerrero). The malnutrition in Nigeria may not seem like such a problem; however, it is a major one.
The Nigerian population cannot grow

Diversity Within The Workplace, Many People And Companies...
When looking at diversity in the workplace, many people and companies encourage it. Cultural
diversity has become a defining characteristic of an increasing number of societies ( Consequences of
Cultural diversity this should be the author and the date). They feel that it is a great thing to have
diversity in the workplace, however, what some companies do not think about is the negative effects
of having too much diversity in the workplace. A workforce that has significant differences in
ethnicity, race, religion, gender and other individual traits can produce negative effects, especially if
not well managed. These negative effects of diversity are understandable if the work culture does not
support tolerance and acceptance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The real problem comes with the companies that are widely diverse because of the different
combinations of cultures that are being mixed. Also, another problem with diversity in the workplace
is time. Different cultures and societies view time differently, as how many hours employees are
expected to work in a day and how many are spent with family vary. Other cultures work long hours
in a day, but they also take a long lunch break as where others work for an average of eight hours a
day with an average lunch of thirty minutes. With all of the differences that cultures have, it can make
it difficult for a large corporation to be successful and effective, as well as efficient, when managing
the workplace.
The benefits of diversity in the hospitality business are numerous, however. Diversity can bring new
views and perspectives to the table to other workers that they may not have been exposed to it before.
It may not occur to a large group of, for example, middle class white people that there are better
solutions or plans for their workplace because they all might have relatively the same ideals and work
ethics. However, having diverse groups of people could bring those fresh ideas and problem solving to
these workers that may otherwise not occur to them. Especially different ethnicities might, ...offer

Moneyball Psychology
In the film Moneyball, there are many different psychological concepts throughout it. The Oscar
nominated film is a visual adaptation of the book Moneyball, which was written by Michael Lewis.
Both the book and movie are based on the true story of the 2002 Oakland A s season and the life of
their general manager Billy Beane, who decides to play professional ball instead of going to Stanford
University. Later Beane becomes a general manager of a low budget team. Beane, played by Brad Pitt,
has one of the cheapest budgets in baseball and must take a different approach, then most other
general managers, in order to build his team. By doing this, Billy Beane creates a new blueprint for

A well defined problem is a problem with the clear description of the start state, goal state, and the

the way people view the road to success in baseball. To do this, Billy used Bill James algorithm to
signs players he believes are undervalued by the league. In the movie, there is a scene where Billy is
asking all the scouts, what s the problem? The scouts all respond by telling Billy the team needs to

Ghost Hunt Research Paper
If you believe in ghosts, you aren t alone. A YouGov survey of about 1,000 people says that 45% of
people believe that ghosts or spirits of the dead can come back and interact with us. It kind of sounds
crazy to believe that people can stick around after they die and even interact with objects in our world,
but so many people swear they have encountered something that they can t explain. I ve always grew
up really skeptical of these things. The Idea that spirits stick around with us after death is an ancient
one, and is incorporated into countless literature, from the Bible to Macbeth . It has inspired so many
different kinds of media like horror movies, ghost stories, and tv shows. I grew up watching some of
these things, and the question always remained in my head: Are ghosts real? I really wanted to answer
that in this senior project. I think I finally have a good answer that I m going to stick with. Ghost
hunting dates back to the 18th century. Groups like the Society for Psychical Research were some of

Child Observation On Human Development
Introduction
For this observation project we were supposed to watch two different groups of people whose ages
range from two to twenty. So we could apply our knowledge of human growth and development to
test the effectiveness of current theories and research on development. For my observations I watched
two different groups, group A were ages three to four and group B were ages eighteen to twenty.
Group A, I observed on a warm, bright sunny Monday afternoon. I watched the children as they
played on the playground behind the Lions Club Child Study Center on campus. On this day, I
watched a group of 4 children, which included three girls and one boy as they played. One of the little

All the females in the group appeared to have strong memory skills. The children were able to follow
complex direction. The only male in the group seemed to struggle with memory. After, a while of play
the male became more interested in a bug in the sand. This behavior reinforces Flavell, when he said
that children s attention is more like a flash of light that focus on what it wants (Woolfolk Perry, 2015,
p. 230). After, examining the bug for a while he began to play as superman. Playing pretend helps
children develop better social skills, self control, and they understand the perspective of others
(Woolfolk Perry, 2015, p. 242). While observing group B they performed the task of sitting around,
talking, and laughing very well. The females in the groups appeared to have strong memory skills.
They could follow complex directions. On the other hand, the males in the group seemed to have a
problem with memory skills. While watching Group B, the male with the pink T shirt started doing
push up and shortly after the male with the black shirt started to do them too. The two males within
the group seems to be struggling with imaginary audience. Imaginary Audience is the feeling that
everyone is watching (Woolfolk Perry, 2015, p. 513). This was probably caused by the excusive use of
the internet. In a study done by Moreno, it was found that adolescents of color used the internet

The Bloody Massacre In Kings Street Analysis
The Bloody Massacre in Kings Street is an engraving done by the great Paul Revere. The engraving
depicts the British lined up alongside an officer giving an order to fire, indicating that the British
soldiers are the aggressors. He goes on to depict smiles on the faces of some of the soldiers as if to
show they are enjoying this brutal murder. The Boston air was thick with tensions between the
American colonists and the British leading up to March 5, 1770. This tension began to brew in the
early 1760s, as American colonists began to disagree with the British who thought themselves to be
the superiors. As the decade progressed, the British felt themselves losing their intimidation factor as
American colonists ensued peaceful protests in the streets. On March 5th, 1770, British soldiers are at
fault for murdering innocent protesters because, they were practicing carelessness, assuming a
position of false superiority, and enacting a last ditch effort to remain in control.
As to what happened on the evening of March 5th, 1770, there is a plentiful amount of perspectives
that have been studied for centuries. In the decade leading up to the massacre tensions were high, and
as it is put by Wheeler and Becker, the Massachusetts colony became a hotbed of opposition to
imperial policy innovations (81). There was intense strain on the relationship between the British and
the American Colonists. More specifically this rising hostility honed in between the Boston residents,

James Lankford states, No school wants any student to be bullied or discriminated against, but the
Department of Education does not have the authority to operate as a national school board and impose

Carnivore Evolution
Millions of years ago a dinosaur group, theropods, consisted of killing machines like the T Rex and
the velociraptor, but recent research has proven that these bloodthirsty carnivores evolved into birds,
trading their sharp teeth for beaks. This mind blowing realization has confused many people for years,
but Amy Balanoff reported her findings to show proof of the line of evolutionary descent from
horrendous beast to feathery pet.
Balanoff worked with a team of evolutionary biologist, their leader being Shuo Wang, discovered the
loss of teeth for beaks were normal in growth process of theropods. As the dinosaurs would grow, a
beak would naturally grow across their face which would stop the formation of teeth. Wang
discovered through earlier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By conducting both comparative and statistical evidence on thousands of vertebrates, the team hoped
to find some understanding as to the characteristics of animals that develop beaks. Their results
showed that beaked animals are more likely to be hatched from eggs the embryos had a structure on
the tip of their snouts made of keratin, something found in fingernails; using this they could break
through the egg and then shortly after it would fall off. Josef Stiegler connected their findings to the
fossil records and stated that the transitions they saw in the jaw may have been the start of this
evolution from killer reptile to bird.
Obviously as this evolution progressed, the theropods would transition earlier and earlier until it
happened in the embryo stage. The team also hypothesized that a protein called BMP4 may have
stopped teeth from growing and start creating beaks, but Stiegler disagreed with this because he felt
like additional research needed to be conducted. Scientist Stephen Brusatte read the analysis and
thought the study is a great example of how fossil genetics can be used to show the comparisons
between modern birds today and terrible dinosaurs.
In my opinion, I don t find the study that far fetched. I believe that this could be a possibility to how
we have birds today. Through evolution I find that the idea of dinosaurs developing beaks at the

There are different forms of government adopted by the ancient civilization of Greece. They were
monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy, and democracy. However, among those mentioned only four

However, the primary purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast these different forms of

3. Big Data Management
Big Data Management (BDM) is the governance and management of huge volumes of all types of
data. Big data management is the huge change to technology that will help to make a better society
and the industrial sector. The integration, manipulation, quality and governance are the things that big
data management has to deal with and management of Big Data including the key factors Volume,
Velocity and Variety of Big Data. Big data is all about size of data. Big data is very large databases. So
these ample amount of data needs to be managed in order to use this data at any time. This is known
as Big Data Management (BDM). Big Data management is around two things big information and
information management. Big Data Management serves as the essential step for overseeing and
administrating huge amount of information called as Big Data in the organizations.
The security of data is another huge concern of Big Data Management which is expanding with the
increase in Big Data. Big Data Management is not only restricted to storage of ample data. It also
offers data security and integrity. This gets to be the greatest preference of Big Data Management
which makes the associations to adopt BDM and also to create new technique for managing Big Data.
Precision of data is guaranteed in this way. Otherwise it would be troublesome for the enterprises to
tackle with the beast of Big Data.

A Worn Path Analysis
In A Worn Path , by Eudora Welty, we join Phoenix Jackson on her routine voyage to town for the
medicine her grandson needs to survive. Throughout this short story, it is obvious that there are themes
of persistence, struggle, and love. This struggle to the town is made apparent and is emphasized by the
stories setting along with the use of symbolism, and mood/atmosphere of the story. The driving force
behind the plot is this theme of persistence through the struggles and the idea that love conquers all,
adds to Jackson s journey to the town to get the medicine. As Jackson makes her way she faces
hurdles that would make a normal person turn back, such as the barbed wire fence (Welty, 503). But
instead, Jackson carries on. I personally interpret that as a great statement of love. Jackson was willing
to go through barbed wire fences to help her grandson. In addition, she not only was willing to go
through the barbed wires but also was willing to beg so that she could get her grandson a toy. Nothing
stopped Jackson from doing all that she could for her family and to me that means more than anything.
Symbolism plays a large part in the telling of this story. Symbolism can be found in Phoenix Jackson s
name just as much as in the small toy she buys her grandson. The name Phoenix is referencing a
mythical bird that is believed to live in the desert and is capable of living up to 600 years. The Phoenix
is said to set itself on fire only to rise once again from its ashes. The symbol of the Phoenix expresses
the endurance and resilience of Phoenix Jackson. As she makes her way down the path she is
embodying the long lasting characteristic of the Phoenix. In addition, Jackson is constantly picking
herself back up, and keeping herself together. Just like the mythical bird, Jackson manages to continue
on the harsh and tortuous path, rising from her own ashes, all out of love for her grandson. While the
symbol of the phoenix is obvious, one might skip over the message behind the small toy Jackson
bought for her grandson. The pinwheel, or windmill as Jackson called it, is a circular collection of
blades that are pushed and turned in a continuous circular pattern by either wind or force (Welty, 507).

Etv2
Effective establishment of the hematopoietic and vascular systems is prerequisite for successful
embryogenesis. The ETS transcription factor Etv2 has proven to be essential for hematopoietic and
vascular development. Etv2 expression marks the onset of the hematopoietic and vascular
development and its deficiency leads to an absolute block in hematopoietic and vascular development.
Etv2 is transiently expressed during development and is mainly expressed in testis in adults.
Consistent with its expression pattern, Etv2 is transiently required for the generation of the optimal
levels of the hemangiogenic cell population. Deletion of this gene after the hemangiogenic progenitor

Subsequently, microarray analysis of the zebrafish cloche mutants, which are defective in blood and
endothelial cell formation, identified etsrp expression to be greatly reduced in cloche mutants
(Sumanas et al., 2005). Additionally, microarray analysis of the hemangiogenic progenitor, which
generates hematopoietic and endothelial cells, and mouse Nkx2 5 null hearts identified Etv2 to be
highly expressed in the hemangioblast population compared to its progeny, hematopoietic and
endothelial cells (Lugus et al., 2007), but greatly reduced in Nkx2 5 null hearts (Ferdous et al.,
2009), respectively. These studies suggested that ETV2 might play a role in hematopoietic and
cardiovascular cell lineage development. Indeed, recent studies have established the critical and non
redundant function of this factor in hematopoietic and vascular development.
Etv2 is transiently expressed in the hemangiogenic progenitors
In developing mouse embryo, Etv2 is expressed in the primitive streak, embryonic mesoderm,

2008). Its expression becomes rapidly down regulated as embryos develop and is mainly detected
within major vessels, including the dorsal aorta and branchial arches,

projected to supply an equivalent of 45 years of the United States current energy consumption. Worth
an estimated five hundred billion, this can translate into cheaper and wider variety of products such as
plastic, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals. It can also relate to an increase [in] the supply of
fertilizer, ensuring the availability of food and reducing...the conversion of forests to agricultural
farms (Sovacool 252). The fracking industry will only increase in size in future years, so much so that
reclamation of shale gas is called the eminent shale gas revolution. British Petroleum [BP], for
instance, expects global shale gas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While improving production rates, safety, and new methods have lessened environmental impacts. The
contents of fracking solution is the basis for much debate and one of the main concerns for many.
However, fracking fluid is not the only questionable aspect of fracking. Included is land and
infrastructure degradation, physiological harm to local citizens, utilization of legislation loopholes,
and the secrecy of fracking fluid formulas within the industry. Fracking, like all industries, has many
hazards associated, and has initiated much political discussion at the state and federal levels of
government, while inciting concern of local citizens. Fracking is not the cleanest alternative to oil
reclamation, but has improved drastically with the introduction of hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic
fracturing is an extremely controversial topic, raising concerns of safety and of economic feasibility
by both affected or non affected citizens and members of government. Nonetheless, the negative
attributes of fracking, such as fracking fluid dispersal and other environmental issues are outweighed
by the vast economic gains and can be mitigated by a system of regulations and development of new
technologies for the industry.
The term, fracking, has existed for nearly a half century and has always had the negative connotation
of being unclean and associated with many environmental issues and adverse health effects. The

Conjugal Violence In Social Work
Routine Activities Along with these two amazing projects, I also engaged in administrative work like
answering phones, taking messages, making calls, notifying the social workers and cultural
intermediaries that their clients have arrived, ensuring that the client is comfortable, and so forth. One
thing that will remain memorable was when I answered the phone and a man explained called for a
friend because he feared that his friend was in danger of being killed by her husband and asked
whether there was space at SOAFS s emergency shelter. With this crisis call, I realized how conjugal
violence is a very serious issue in Quebec, and it showed me the how severe some people s cases can
be. Not only was I shaken, but I was also in awe at how calmly and with such poise the social workers
are when dealing with these types of situation. Additionally, I realized that these are the types of
situation that the social workers need to deal with on a daily basis. Other Activities ... Show more

This meeting served as a way to welcome me and delineate to everyone my role at The Shield.
Moreover, I also had the opportunity to attend the General Assembly (GA) and meet a few of the
board members. The GA discussed several aspects of the Shield such as the number of phone calls
received, the number of clients they helped, their future goal, how close they are to achieving their
goal of opening the Second Step Shelter, how the emergency shelter works and the different rules set
forth by the social worker, and so on. The General Assembly allowed me to learn more about the
organization and the services offered. As well, the statistics about how many women were calling in
times of distress was surprising as I did not expect the number to be very

Emerson And Transcendentalist Beliefs
I found it interesting how Emerson weaves his theology and philosophy into his writing. From the
very beginning of the passage, Emerson establishes his transcendentalist beliefs, reconciling the idea
that the wide universe is full of good with the idea that one must work to obtain sustenance by the idea
a tenant s land is given to him to till . This reconciliation being that in his worldview evil cannot exist,
so to explain the seeming logical inconsistency of people having to toil for food, he sets up the idea
the universe provides everyone with the opportunity to achieve, but one must be willing to utilize it.
The idea of transcending coming about through labor can be seen in the way transcendentalists tried to
establish a utopian society and to perfect mankind. The natural world, according to Emerson s
philosophy, gives each individual unique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emerson also makes multiple parallels to various religions, seemingly connecting to Greek mythology
with the phase trust thyself , comparable to the phrase know thyself which is associated with the
Apollo temple at Delphi. If Emerson is making a reference to Greek philosophy to establish his
beliefs, then the iron string which every heart vibrates to may be related to the lyre, a symbol of
Apollo that is comparable to a harp. Another symbol that can be connected to Apollo is the laurel
wreath, a symbol of victory, comparable to immortal palms , in Emerson s essay being a symbol of
eternal triumph. As Apollo himself is often used as a symbol for the ambitions of mankind, Emerson
would be in this scenario using these allusions to Greek mythology to emphasize the ability of man to
transcend through the utilization of what nature has granted

Human effects and involvement on endangered and extinct species
Tiffany Tierson
Abstract
This paper was constructed to give an overview of the vast majority of species that are disappearing
and have disappeared from the earth. With informative knowledge and accurate numbers the reader
was introduced to the different ways that animals are becoming extinct, deforestation, overpopulation,
economic prosperity, population growth, urban environment, global perspective and science and
ethics. Each of these is affecting different species at different rates, but what was concluded by
comparing numbers is that humans are truly responsible for their actions and the actions of causing the
exaction and endangerment of animals. Humans are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the trees are cut down the frogs are unable to reproduce (http://www.iucnredlist.org).
The Asian Elephant and overpopulation Asian elephant s population once expanded from West Asia
along the Iranian coast into the Indian subcontinent, eastwards into South east Asia including Sumatra,
Java, and Borneo, and into China at least as far as the Yangtze Kiang. Crude estimates must be made
about the remaining population size because it has become hard to count the number of animals left in
the thick vegetation where they have been forced to reside from people invading their areas. Asian
elephants can be found in grassland, tropical evergreen forest, semi evergreen forest, moist deciduous
forest, dry deciduous forested and dry thorn forest, in addition to cultivated and secondary forests and
scrublands. These are areas, especially the forests where the growing population of Asia and India
have now become human homes and territory, forcing the animals to reside on smaller locations of
land with fewer resources for them, and more for humans. (http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/7140).
The Siberian (Amur) Tiger and science and ethics The Siberian tiger resides mostly in Russia along
the Amur River. The tiger used to range all over east Russia and west Russia, but now is in this small
area where it is protected. There are no longer tigers in West Russia they have become

Hillary Clinton s Influence On American Politics
For the last 12 months America has been experiencing a liberal/progressive revolution. People all over
the country have been uniting behind Bernie Sanders and his cause to end the corruption in
Washington and restore the democratic power to the American people.
When Sanders, a relatively unknown, small state senator of Vermont officially announced on May 26,
2015 that he was running for the presidency, the media coverage was relatively scarce. For years the
Democratic National Committee (DNC) led by the former co chairman for Hillary Clinton s 2008
presidential campaign and mainstream media had assumed Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic
nominee. According to these pundits, Hillary was, due to her experience, recognisability, and vast
amount of donor money, considered to be the ideal candidate for the Democratic Party.
Therefore, as Sanders started surging in the polls prior to the initial state primary elections surpassing
Hillary in New Hampshire and keeping it close in Iowa, the bias of ... Show more content on

Ultimately, he forced his DNC rival, Mrs. Clinton, to adopt some of his own policies, or adjust some
of hers, to appeal to the mentioned demographic. Most recently exemplified by Clinton proposing free
education at any in state public university and college for families with an annual income of less than
125000 dollars, this was seen as a compromise between Sander s completely free alternative and the
one Clinton proposed last year, which would force parents to contribute as much of their own money
as possible to pay for their children s tuition fees; a big step forward for a country with a national
student loan debt of 1 trillion

The Earth s Climate Has Changed Through The Century
It is not surprising that the Earth s climate has changed rapidly through the century. What really comes
as a surprise, however, is that almost everyone acknowledged the notion that climate change is man
made. Why particular phenomenon existed? With innumerable signs given by our planet, like global
sea level and temperature rise and shrinking ice sheets, it is beyond doubt that our climate is changing.
Yet, climate change authentically is an action of the nature itself.
Multiple scientific studies stated that the global mean temperature has risen 1 to 2 degrees Celsius
since pre industrial periods and claims the climate warming trends over the past century are extremely
likely due to human activities. As a matter of fact, the Earth had gone

Falstaff In King Henry IV
William Shakespeare s King Henry IV pt.1 is a tale of a of two young men fighting for the heart of
their King. Although the character of focus, Falstaff, makes decision based purely towards his own
betterment, while casting aside the social order and one s he loves. His actions prove him to be
inward, cunning, and intelligent; thus, establishing Falstaff as the plays Machiavelli character. I will
create a costume for Falstaff, so that my audience will have no doubt that he is my plays machiavelli
villain. Although Falstaff is presented as a character who posses sanguine humors at the beginning of
this play, his humour foils into choleric as he assumes the role as a Machiavelli. Even though some
readers declare Falstaff as the comic champion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But once he tells Prince Henry about the opportunity of theft, Falstaff foils and portrays choleric
tendencies as he describes himself as a great warrior. After the theft has occurred the boys return to the
tavern and Falstaff is revealed as a coward. Falstaff attempts to decisive Prince Henry into thinking
numerous men attacked Falstaff after the theft and still his loot, but it was Prince Henry himself who
stole Falstaff s ill begotten fortunes. Interestingly, Falstaff is not mad but happy that Prince Henry has
the loot and they commence eating and drinking. This action presents Falstaff as the plays
machiavelli, he deceitfully influenced Prince Henry into becoming a thief, threatening the social order
and placing the entire future of England at harm so that he can eat and drink for free. I Believe that
Falstaff never desired to commit the theft himself, but attempted to trick Prince Henry into stealing for
him by declaring that Prince Henry was not man enough to pull off such a theft. I believe that Falstaff
can also be viewed as the plays rogue hero because he commits the crime of theft, who the audience

Red Meat Research Paper
Did you know that the meat you eat everyday can kill you? People consume meat everyday, and don t
know how it can affect their health. Research shows that red meat is increasing the chance of eight
major diseases. Those diseases include cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease, strokes, diabetes,
infections, kidney disease, and liver disease. Red meat is also full of nasty growth hormones and
cholesterol. The next type of meat that is causing long term health issues is chicken. Chicken can
cause a number of bacterial and viral related diseases and infections due to pathogenic organisms they
carry. Chicken can cause salmonellosis, avian flu, E. coli infection, campylobacteriosis, and
staphylococcus aureus infection. Like the red meat, chicken is full of nasty growth hormones, which is
terrible for you, it is full of cholesterol. The last type of meat I will be talking about is pork. Pork also

Summary Of The Pink Panther
Jeff Koons s Pink Panther is a piece of art that portrays an entertained, bare breasted lady, attired in a
green dress. Her head tilts backward in a posture appearing as if she is talking to people around her.
She is modeled after the former Hollywood star, Jayne Mansfield. Additionally, the Pink Panther, a
famous cartoon character, calmly rests on the left shoulder of Mansfield while wearing a hapless
expression. Both figures were mass market and pop culture knickknacks when the sculpture was
created. The work itself marked a crucial period of transformation in Koons s work and style. His
creations became brighter, bigger, and more startlingly cheerful. Koons surprised the public by his
brief realism and his resoluteness to depict the contemporary social and cultural situation. His work
could be understood as complex perspective on the present time. The image of the couple is
gratifyingly sophomoric. It depicts the lust for an object, which is accompanied by ingenuous
sentimentality. In general, the sculpture pinpoints everything Koons regards erroneous in the modern
American popular culture. Furthermore, the artwork portrays the way how people conduct themselves
in their daily activities and presents their common values and attitude to life. For instance, the
sculpture can be related to the problem of women s rights. Although the lady is utterly sexualized and
objectified, it is done in a vulgar way of a kitsch, which makes a viewer to think about the status of
woman in the modern society. In addition, utilizing recognizable celebrities as a selling point could be
considered a type of self irony and reflection on the contemporary status of art. Finally, the Pink
Panther blurs the difference between an art object and a piece of everyday culture and entertainment.
In this regards, it stands out from other works of postmodernism.
Pink Panther by Jeff Koons
Introduction
Artistic work often forms a serious way of communication, and many artists use it to pass a message
to the society. Similarly, Jeff Koons provided us with funny yet intellectually stimulating art, even
though he was envied by many people who have consistently portrayed him as a cool blooded cynic
(Graddy 233 37). His Pink Panther is a

  • 2. Allegory Of The Cave, By Dick Gregory s Shame And... When discussing reality, several questions emerge regarding what reality is. A reality, the real situation that exist, (Merriam Webster.com) consists of two forms perceived reality and actual reality. One spends his or her entire life trying to decipher the difference between the two forms; yet to truly understand reality, it is essential that you comprehend both. Plato s Allegory of the Cave, Dick Gregory s Shame and Frederick Douglass Learning to Read and Write illustrate examples of both perceptions. Furthermore, how conceptualization of reality helps establish who one will become. Perceived reality is one s interpretation of what is genuine and false, wrong and right, what is real and what is not. Because of this, one s surroundings and associates can also influence one s perception of what is authentic; consequently, one s belief in perceived truth can be distorted. The depiction of a physical world filled with misrepresented and inadequate images of existence, in Allegory of the Cave, confirms this assertion. Shadows symbolize fact and those who were chained consider nothing besides the artifacts as the unhidden (Plato). Similarly to Plato, Gregory s Shame, portrays his teacher s assumptions that he was stupid, couldn t spell, couldn t read, and couldn t do arithmetic (Shame 5). She regarded him as ignorant, based solely on his inability to concentrate in class or sit still. Gregory also describes his obliviousness of shames existence. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Southernisation And Southernization When studying history, one may generally focus on European culture and its effects on the rest of the world. Southernization is the development of Southern Asian cultures and how they truly affected most cultures on the Eurasian and American continents. Southernization, though quite unheard of by most people, is very important to modern day Europe and the effects of westernization. Though southernization incorporates all of South Asia, it focuses more on the impact India had on China and other regions. Without southernization, westernization would not have developed, logistically by exchange of mathematics and philosophy, technologically through advancements in maritime trade, and economically specifically the trade of produce like sugarcane. Although the west did have its own cultivation of knowledge, the majority of westernized thinking originated in India and other Southern Asian countries. The people of India invented Hindi numerals. Arabs gave these numerals the title, Hindi numbers . These numerals included the concept of zero and allowed mathematicians to make fast, accurate calculations. Once Arabs had begun using the Indians numerals and concept of zero, Europeans were then introduced to these concepts and called them Arab numerals . Chinese used Indian mathematical concepts but advanced the ideas which allowed them to expand in that field of knowledge. The methods that the Chinese used based off of the ideas of Indians, shows how methods were spread. Since the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Blindness in Ramayana Essays Blindness in Ramayana Temporal Blindness is where we are time blinded to what actually is going on in life due to a focus on what is going on right now at this moment. It is as if we put something major important in the back of our minds and then our actions are greatly dependent on that important thing we put in the back of our mind. In the Ramayana, Ravana is temporally blind when he decides to capture Sita, which ultimately leads to his death. When Rama, his beloved wife Sita, and his helpful brother Lakshmana are forced to exile for fourteen years, they encounter many demons. Rama is ultimately put to the test when he has to find his beloved wife that has been captured by the demon herself, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ravana was temporally blind into seeing this occurring in the future because of his overwhelming obsession with Sita; at the time Soopanaka was in love with Rama. Ravana could have prevented his death by not capturing the love of Rama, which causes Rama to go on the ultimate quest into finding her and by doing so he kills the evil Ravana in revenge of him steeling Sita. He also could have prevented his death by letting Sita go back to Rama, so his life wouldn t be in such danger. Temporal blindness can also be seen in my life today. I would say that our country and our president were blind on September 11. I think we could have prevented it from happening if we had paid attention to what was actually going on in life. I think many people here in the United States took their life for granted. The attacks on September 11 put everyone s life into perspective and opened their eyes from that blindness that was blocking them from seeing what was actually occurring in the real world. I think many people before September 11 were just living it up. I think we all believed we lived in this perfect world where everything was going just right, until there was a pit stop that changed our lives forever. The stock market then went ... • 5. Nonverbal Communication In My Family For Thanksgiving, my family came to my house. My family was excited to meet the new boyfriend of my cousin, Kelley. This would be our first time meeting him (other than stalking him on Facebook). I picked Thanksgiving because it is an event that is filled with nonverbal communication. Whenever my family gets together, I usually expect really loud laughter coming from someone at any given time. Furthermore, the whole room is just really loud in general. We usually talk in loud volumes, speak with our hands, make eye contact, hug, and lean forward when we are talking to each other. All of these nonverbal communication norms say that everyone in our family gets along and loves each other very much. But, bring a newbie into our group and I thought things would change. I was wrong. When Kelley and Michael (her boyfriend) first arrived, there was a loud greeting from my mom. She was complementing, or [expressing] nonverbal behaviors [that] match the thoughts and emotions [of] the communicator, with her warm smile on her face (Adler and Proctor 217). She used paralanguage to illustrate her excitement. Paralanguage refers to a message spoken [in a way that] can give the same word or words many meanings (Adler and Proctor 230). In this context, she raised her voice in order to show that she was excited to see Kelley and Michael. Upon her greeting, she raised her hands in order to signal that she was going in for a hug. This gesture set precedent for the rest of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Health Care for Migrant Farm Workers Essay Although agriculture is one of the most hazardous jobs in the United States, there is a huge gap in healthcare for those that work in the industry. Due to the large migrant and seasonal worker population, especially those from Mexico, it is a hard population to reach when it comes to healthcare needs. Fear, language barriers and cultural norms are all barriers that need to be addressed for this special population. (Holmes 2011) Agriculture is one of the most hazardous occupations in the United States. In 2000, there were 780 deaths and 130,000 disabling injuries in agriculture. The only industry that had more deaths was construction, with 1,220. (Hansen and Donohoe 2003) Migrant workers face numerous barriers to medical care, including ... (Wang, Myers et al. 2011) Those that experience food insecurity and hunger are at an increased risk for occupational injury and illness when compared to those that were food secure. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010)Food insecurity by definition is the lack of access at all times to enough food for an active and healthy lifestyle due to socioeconomic and environmental barriers. Hunger is the lack of access to sufficient food and eating regularly to prevent both stomach pain and the desire to eat. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010) Out of the study participants, 63.8% were found to be food insecure and 34.7% of those experienced hunger. (Borre, Ertle et al. 2010)In addition to studying food insecurity and hunger, this paper also looked at the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the children of these farm workers. The majority of interviewed participants cited that they were concerned about obesity and the related health problems. It was found that food secure families were more likely to have children with overweight and obesity than those families that were food insecure. This study illustrates the extreme health disparities related to diet in the MSFW population that needs to be addressed. The Migrant Head Start Program, a health promotion program in North ... However, the professor states that none of these reasons could be responsible for the decline in Cedar population. The professor s arguments to oppose the article are as follows. First, the passage introduces insects such as bark beetle as a potential damaging factor. According to the author, these insects might exploit trees as parasites. However, the professor refutes this by referring to the fact that Cedar trees are indeed resistant plants against insects. • 12. As You Like It by William Shakespeare In William Shakespeare s play, As You Like It, the protagonist, Rosalind, disguises herself as a boy for the majority of the play. Rosalind is used by Shakespeare to help divulge a portion of Shakespeare s personal life and also show flaws in the unique stereotypes that are expected for boys and girls. Shakespeare s main use for Rosalind was to illustrate the unique features and characteristics that boys and girls are expected to have and how easily they can be overlooked. Even though boys and girls are both equal human beings, it was not thought to be this way in Shakespeare s time. Rosalind wanted to do more than what a girl could do, and thus, she disguised herself and effectively became a man. However, Shakespeare also uses Rosalind to help divulge some secrets that may have been present in Shakespeare s personal life, such as an imposter Shakespeare. Gender discrimination and stereotypes have been around since the dawn of time. Throughout the centuries, it has always been believed that women should be confined to household and non strenuous jobs such as: doing the housekeeping, raising children, tending to her husband s every need, and teaching at schools. Gender discrimination is first illustrated in the Bible through 1st Timothy 2:12 by saying, I do not permit a woman to teach or exercise authority over man; rather, she is to remain quiet and also in Genesis 3:16, To the woman he said, I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring ... • 13. Organizational conflict Conflict is defined as any situation in which incompatible goals, attitudes, emotions, or behaviors lead to disagreement or opposition between two or more parties (Nelson, 2013, p.472). In my line of work, conflict is important and even relished; a collision of ideas, different approaches to achieve goals, and passionate emotions are essential to group and/or individual creativity. Functional conflict can produce new ideas, learning, and growth among individuals. When individuals engage in constructive conflict, they develop a better awareness of themselves and others. Because it tends to encourage creativity among individuals, this positive form of conflict can translate into increased productivity (Nelson, 2013, p.472). Focused conflict centered on achieving common goals often generates innovation. I enjoy the passion of my Gen Y employees, and I have learned much from them by leveraging this conflict. Yes, some might see me as one who starts trouble, but my intention is to bring out the best of those in my sphere of influence. Over the years, I have learned a few key factors in functional conflict: 1) Debate along the way don t hold back and explode down the line, 2) Maintain goal perspective don t attack individuals attack the goal, and 3) Celebrate differences embracing individual uniqueness generates value. One effective technique for resolving conflict is to appeal to a superordinate goal in effect, to focus the parties on a larger issue on which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Ability s Inability ( Rough Draft ) Ability s Inability (Rough Draft) When considering Christian allegories that have been written through the years, one has stood out from the rest. This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many readers. In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is, with Rights of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement: Bunyan and Paine, with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes which make up the raw material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). The Pilgrim s Progress was written by John Bunyan in February of 1678. At the time, Bunyan titled it The Pilgrim s Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream . In modern publications of the work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s Progress, Part II has been added at the end of the original tale. Although the two tales were not originally published back to back, reading them one after the other shows the striking differences between them. Bunyan specifically used different events, people, and circumstance in the two different parts to symbolically show how Christian life can vary greatly depending upon the individual. John Bunyan s readers wanted the story in The Pilgrim s Progress to continue beyond the original tale. They wanted a centralized government and were comprised of cruel hearted people that were more often than not very poorly educated and poor in wealth that wanted to get involved. While on the other hand the Girondins were led by Jean Marie Roland and his wife Marie Roland. The majority of the Girondins came from an area called Gironde, and were much more wealthy and honest as compared to the Jacobins. The district of Gironde was made up of people of high intellect. The Girondins urged citizens to stop the violence while Jacobins encouraged the bloodshed. At the begging of the struggle there was a wide gap between the Girondins and the Jacobins, as the Jacobins were seen as the minority. The Girondins saw themselves as strong enough to dissolve the Jacobins and may have gotten a little cocky as a result. The minister of War, Pache switched from the Girondins to the Jacobins in 1972, and just a year later the king was executed. The Jacobins quickly gained the edge and became the more powerful force. They were frustrated because they knew that American s had more rights and that more could have been done. Starting from the Loyal Nine s and wealthy families, the Sons of Liberty achieved many things , their ideas were best expressed through the rights they determined Americans had, what roles they each played in saving those rights and how important they thought those rights were. They got together and formed in 1765, in Boston right after the stamp act and that s originally where they got their name. They had another name that they were also known as called the loyalist. They had quite an amount of members and they all were helpful in some way. The men s who leaded this party were John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Paul Revere. Altogether those that formed the Sons of Liberty were helpful because they helped get the group out there. The Sons of liberty had publishers, writers and they had a very good start to be out there and become known. They did keep their little organization alittle secret, just because they didn t want anyone to find out, along the secret meetings they had, they had secret things they said to each other. • 17. Polygamy in the United States Polygamy is the practice of having multiple spouses at one time, and has been considered a controversial social and legal topic in society, gaining attention as a subject in which multiple opinions are held. As the topic has become a part of mainstream culture through media accounts of polygamist families by news outlets and reality television, confusion has emerged in reference to its main characteristics and legitimacy as a form of marriage. However, this kind of marriage is intriguing because it enters more than two individuals into the union, potentially causing a change in husband wife dynamics. In particular, polygamy with multiple wives proves to be more common in media accounts of these relationships. That being said, appreciating this form of marriage, as in any union, requires an understanding of how the different social players behave and the general interactions of the husband wife relationships. Likewise, it is important to understand how this type of union exemplifies the typical United States ideals of marriage. With more information regarding polygamist marriages, society can better understand its similarities and differences from normative patterns, ultimately eliminating some of the stigma placed on the husbands and wives of these relationships. From people giving it such a positive review, I decided to give it a try. As someone who is a lover of tacos, including breakfast tacos, I knew I would be a tough critic over Torchy s. After I went to Torchy s twice, I decided to give it two thumbs up. I love Mexican food, and as a native of Texas I ve had plenty of it in my sixteen years of life. From my first trip, I tried the queso first which contains green chile, quacamole, and diablo hot sauce, but as a lover of fiery foods, I fairly enjoyed this. Once I poured the jalapeno ranch on top of my taco, the flour tortilla is too small to full wrap up it s contents. As soon as I picked up my taco, the queso, pico de gallo, ranch sauce, and green chiles fell out of the bottom. Alas, I would not let this go to waste so I scooped all of it up and tried again, but using a fork instead. I was sort of bummed knowing I couldn t properly eat this taco, but I was still mucho ... • 24. What Is The Hunger In Nigeria Jocelyn Bennett Instructor Williamson ENG III 8 December 2017 The Hunger in Nigeria The world s hunger is ridiculous. There is more fruit in a rich man s shampoo than on a poor man s plate (The World S). Nigeria consists of 186 million people and of those 450,000 are malnourished children (Nigeria). A malnourished child is one not receiving the appropriate amount of nutrients in their system. In America, this can be from eating a substantial amount of unhealthy food or from not eating enough.. Unfortunately, the situation in Nigeria is strictly not obtaining enough food or any at all. Nigeria is only one of many that need help in getting food to its people. Therefore, the number of people with an inadequate amount of food in Nigeria is increasing due to conflict and needs to be decreased due to it causing a variety of diseases and making it easier for viruses to spread throughout the country. The question the whole world has been asking is why the amount of Nigeria s malnourished population has increased. It all begins with a group named Boko Haram. Boko Haram is a group similar to ISIS and has been capturing multiple cities throughout Nigeria. The group is making it extremely difficult for the natives to continue their farming, as well as their everyday life. The Nigerian government has been trying extremely hard to gain control of their cities once again (Conflict). However, there have been many times where Nigeria was too late. Boko Haram has harmed and killed over 100,000 people in Borno alone.(Nigeria) The group has managed to force over two million people to relocate their lives elsewhere within the region of Nigeria. This can be referred to as internally displacing someone (Tukur). Nigeria has been trying it s hardest to recapture the sites taken, especially Borno. Unfortunately, Boko Haram hasn t been stopped yet and the number of malnourished natives is rapidly increasing. According to Inland Valley Daily, each day, about 29,000 children worldwide die from hunger and preventable diseases such as malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections (Guerrero). The engraving depicts the British lined up alongside an officer giving an order to fire, indicating that the British soldiers are the aggressors. He goes on to depict smiles on the faces of some of the soldiers as if to show they are enjoying this brutal murder. The Boston air was thick with tensions between the American colonists and the British leading up to March 5, 1770. This tension began to brew in the early 1760s, as American colonists began to disagree with the British who thought themselves to be the superiors. As the decade progressed, the British felt themselves losing their intimidation factor as American colonists ensued peaceful protests in the streets. On March 5th, 1770, British soldiers are at fault for murdering innocent protesters because, they were practicing carelessness, assuming a position of false superiority, and enacting a last ditch effort to remain in control. As to what happened on the evening of March 5th, 1770, there is a plentiful amount of perspectives that have been studied for centuries. In the decade leading up to the massacre tensions were high, and as it is put by Wheeler and Becker, the Massachusetts colony became a hotbed of opposition to imperial policy innovations (81). By conducting both comparative and statistical evidence on thousands of vertebrates, the team hoped to find some understanding as to the characteristics of animals that develop beaks. Their results showed that beaked animals are more likely to be hatched from eggs the embryos had a structure on the tip of their snouts made of keratin, something found in fingernails; using this they could break through the egg and then shortly after it would fall off. Josef Stiegler connected their findings to the fossil records and stated that the transitions they saw in the jaw may have been the start of this evolution from killer reptile to bird. Obviously as this evolution progressed, the theropods would transition earlier and earlier until it happened in the embryo stage. The team also hypothesized that a protein called BMP4 may have stopped teeth from growing and start creating beaks, but Stiegler disagreed with this because he felt like additional research needed to be conducted. • 37. A Worn Path Analysis In A Worn Path , by Eudora Welty, we join Phoenix Jackson on her routine voyage to town for the medicine her grandson needs to survive. Throughout this short story, it is obvious that there are themes of persistence, struggle, and love. This struggle to the town is made apparent and is emphasized by the stories setting along with the use of symbolism, and mood/atmosphere of the story. The driving force behind the plot is this theme of persistence through the struggles and the idea that love conquers all, adds to Jackson s journey to the town to get the medicine. As Jackson makes her way she faces hurdles that would make a normal person turn back, such as the barbed wire fence (Welty, 503). But instead, Jackson carries on. I personally interpret that as a great statement of love. Jackson was willing to go through barbed wire fences to help her grandson. In addition, she not only was willing to go through the barbed wires but also was willing to beg so that she could get her grandson a toy. Nothing stopped Jackson from doing all that she could for her family and to me that means more than anything. Symbolism plays a large part in the telling of this story. Symbolism can be found in Phoenix Jackson s name just as much as in the small toy she buys her grandson. The name Phoenix is referencing a mythical bird that is believed to live in the desert and is capable of living up to 600 years. The Phoenix is said to set itself on fire only to rise once again from its ashes. The symbol of the Phoenix expresses the endurance and resilience of Phoenix Jackson. As she makes her way down the path she is embodying the long lasting characteristic of the Phoenix. In addition, Jackson is constantly picking herself back up, and keeping herself together. Just like the mythical bird, Jackson manages to continue on the harsh and tortuous path, rising from her own ashes, all out of love for her grandson. While the symbol of the phoenix is obvious, one might skip over the message behind the small toy Jackson bought for her grandson. The pinwheel, or windmill as Jackson called it, is a circular collection of blades that are pushed and turned in a continuous circular pattern by either wind or force (Welty, 507). This symbol ... While they are disputing, Daniel s young daughter runs out and jumps on him, shocking Farhad and causing him to shoot. Luckily, the bullets are blanks and Daniel s daughter is completely unharmed. This situation was out of Daniel s control, it was not his fault and he could do nothing about Farhad, who had acted on his emotions and assumptions. This film tries to show that no matter how hard people try to break their stereotypes, others will still judge them. Crash exposes that racial stereotypes are still a big issue in the 21st century, which I agree with. People often do follow stereotypes, even though they try not to. Also, people do not want to be judged according to stereotypes but, they still participate in acts that feed them. An example of this from Crash is Anthony s character. He complains about being stereotyped but then steals Jean s car, feeding a typical African American stereotype. In the movie, Anthony encounters Cameron when attempting to steal his car and fails because Cameron is not scared of him, just ashamed. Cameron says to Anthony, Look at me. You embarrass me. You embarrass yourself. , which I can relate to my own personal experiences. There are times when people represent my races poorly and embarrass many others, including me. I ... Native Hawaiians And Asian Immigrants In Hawaii, in the 1940 s, Caucasians, or haoles as they were commonly referred to, unfairly targeted Native Hawaiians and Asians by giving them significantly lower wages. Conjugal Violence In Social Work Routine Activities Along with these two amazing projects, I also engaged in administrative work like answering phones, taking messages, making calls, notifying the social workers and cultural intermediaries that their clients have arrived, ensuring that the client is comfortable, and so forth. One thing that will remain memorable was when I answered the phone and a man explained called for a friend because he feared that his friend was in danger of being killed by her husband and asked whether there was space at SOAFS s emergency shelter. With this crisis call, I realized how conjugal violence is a very serious issue in Quebec, and it showed me the how severe some people s cases can be. • 43. Emerson And Transcendentalist Beliefs I found it interesting how Emerson weaves his theology and philosophy into his writing. From the very beginning of the passage, Emerson establishes his transcendentalist beliefs, reconciling the idea that the wide universe is full of good with the idea that one must work to obtain sustenance by the idea a tenant s land is given to him to till . This reconciliation being that in his worldview evil cannot exist, so to explain the seeming logical inconsistency of people having to toil for food, he sets up the idea the universe provides everyone with the opportunity to achieve, but one must be willing to utilize it. The idea of transcending coming about through labor can be seen in the way transcendentalists tried to establish a utopian society and to perfect mankind. Another symbol that can be connected to Apollo is the laurel wreath, a symbol of victory, comparable to immortal palms , in Emerson s essay being a symbol of eternal triumph. Crude estimates must be made about the remaining population size because it has become hard to count the number of animals left in the thick vegetation where they have been forced to reside from people invading their areas. Asian elephants can be found in grassland, tropical evergreen forest, semi evergreen forest, moist deciduous forest, dry deciduous forested and dry thorn forest, in addition to cultivated and secondary forests and scrublands. People all over the country have been uniting behind Bernie Sanders and his cause to end the corruption in Washington and restore the democratic power to the American people. When Sanders, a relatively unknown, small state senator of Vermont officially announced on May 26, 2015 that he was running for the presidency, the media coverage was relatively scarce. For years the Democratic National Committee (DNC) led by the former co chairman for Hillary Clinton s 2008 presidential campaign and mainstream media had assumed Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee. According to these pundits, Hillary was, due to her experience, recognisability, and vast amount of donor money, considered to be the ideal candidate for the Democratic Party. • 49. Summary Of The Pink Panther Jeff Koons s Pink Panther is a piece of art that portrays an entertained, bare breasted lady, attired in a green dress. Her head tilts backward in a posture appearing as if she is talking to people around her. She is modeled after the former Hollywood star, Jayne Mansfield. Additionally, the Pink Panther, a famous cartoon character, calmly rests on the left shoulder of Mansfield while wearing a hapless expression. Both figures were mass market and pop culture knickknacks when the sculpture was created. The work itself marked a crucial period of transformation in Koons s work and style. His creations became brighter, bigger, and more startlingly cheerful. Koons surprised the public by his brief realism and his resoluteness to depict the contemporary social and cultural situation. His work could be understood as complex perspective on the present time. The image of the couple is gratifyingly sophomoric. It depicts the lust for an object, which is accompanied by ingenuous sentimentality. In general, the sculpture pinpoints everything Koons regards erroneous in the modern American popular culture. Furthermore, the artwork portrays the way how people conduct themselves in their daily activities and presents their common values and attitude to life. For instance, the sculpture can be related to the problem of women s rights. Although the lady is utterly sexualized and objectified, it is done in a vulgar way of a kitsch, which makes a viewer to think about the status of woman in the modern society. In addition, utilizing recognizable celebrities as a selling point could be considered a type of self irony and reflection on the contemporary status of art. Finally, the Pink Panther blurs the difference between an art object and a piece of everyday culture and entertainment. In this regards, it stands out from other works of postmodernism. Pink Panther by Jeff Koons Introduction Artistic work often forms a serious way of communication, and many artists use it to pass a message to the society.
