The Similarities And Differences Of Greek And Roman Heroes
Introduction.
Greek mythological heroes, and Roman mythological heroes share similar trades, however are
different in many ways. These similarities and differences can be identified when looking at the means
for the creation of a hero, and a hero s life (birth, challenges, death), and how they become a hero.
Thus will this easay discuses Greek and roman heroes from the Trojan war to identify the similarities
and difference between them.
Important to use primary sources to identify the similarities and difference, thus will the Aenied and
the Odyssey be used.
Heroes.
Although heroes were not seen as gods they did enjoy the privilege of being divine or at lease semi

The fact that both heroes, from Greek and Roman mythology sharechallenegs through out their lives,
the difference comes in at the exstent and cause of their challenges (Kirk, 1970:33)
.
Odysseus challenges are much greater, but his is selfish, his challenges are due to what he and his
family needs.
Aenues challenges however are based on the greater good, of Rome.
Thus can one conclude a Greek hero, becomes a hero throughout his life, but does not have to die like
a Roman hero for that title.
How they become a hero
Aenus has to die.
Boilling with rage. Cold shivers send Turnus s limbs into spasm. Life flutters off on a groan,
underprotest, down among shadows. Aeneas is wounded in the thigh, but eventually the Trojans
threaten the enemy city. Turnus rushes out to meet Aeneas, who wounds Turnus badly. Aeneas nearly
spares Turnus but, remembering the slain Pallas, slays him instead . Line 950 327

Elizabeth Beezie Research Paper
Before horse, the main way for travel was by foot. This would mean anything that needed to be
delivered, such as a letter or supplies, would usually take too long or get lost along the way. One
current famous equestrian is Elizabeth Beezie Madden. Beezie is the daughter of Joe and Kathy Patton
and she was born on November 20, 1963. She was born in her hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
and grew up on her family s horse farm. She was the first woman and American rider to reach the top
three in the show jumping world ranking list. Beezi started competing at the Grand Prix level in 1985

Separation Of Powers, Popular Sovereignty And Federalism
There is 5 Principles of democracy which are very important but there are 3 principles that i think are
the most important. The three i think are the most important are Separation of Powers, Popular
sovereignty and federalism. These stand out to me because i feel like they re the most of about what
goes on in the world today. Separation of powers is a very important part of society today. The three
different powers is the Judicial branch, Legislative branch and the Executive branch. Those are also
known as the 3 branches of government. Each branch has a different power and certain types of laws
and rules they can enforce. They have separation of powers sdso that one branch does not have to
much power or too little power. My second

Essay about Brown v. Board of Education
Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas was a milestone in American history, as it began the
long process of racial integration, starting with schools. Segregated schools were not equal in quality,
so African American families spearheaded the fight for equality. Brown v. Board stated that public
schools must integrate. This court decision created enormous controversy throughout the United
States. Without this case, the United States may still be segregated today. Although the Fourteenth
Amendment, when adopted in 1868, gave certain rights to blacks, including citizenship, equal
protection of law and other freedoms, African Americans were considered inferior by whites in this
country. In 1896, Plessy v. Ferguson officially made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The five reports of school segregation separately went to local courts with no avail. The cases then
appealed to the Supreme Court, where they were pooled under the title Brown v. Board of Education
of Topeka, Kansas . (Good, 31, 32) (Davidson et al. 850) Lawyers for Brown v. Board were sent from
the NAACP. The NAACP was created in 1909 and stands for the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People. Its mission is to protect the educational, social and economic rights
minorities throughout the United States. One way the NAACP fought for equality was to supply
lawyers for those whose rights were violated. (Benoit, 17 19) There were many arguments both for
and against school segregation. One was the claim that educational decisions were to be left to the
state and local courts, and not to be decided by the Supreme Court. Another was that students should
be taught where they are most comfortable learning. It was thought that white children were more
comfortable learning with white children and the same goes for African American children. Also,
students must be given and equal learning environment, not the same school. Lastly, the defenders of
segregation claimed that African American students were living with the effects of slavery, and were
not able to compete with the white children. (Benoit, 10) (Smithsonian) The arguments against
segregation were presented by

The Bible Is Not A Children s Book Essay
The Bible is not a children s book. Not only is it beyond the length and reading level appropriate for
younger audiences, it often covers what some parents might consider inappropriate topics. Imagine
finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or children
being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear within the
Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic scholarship of
the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a handful of scholars to
study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The last thirty years have
revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars within this subfield:
necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically, dialogue about ancient
Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from the surrounding
geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient peoples; these topics are
no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars, the majority of academics
appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical practice belonging to the worship
of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with varying degrees of beliefs about the
particular conditions during which these controversial customs were performed.

Renee Descartes Method Of Doubt
Renee Descartes Method of Doubt is an incredibly interesting and mind bending philosophy to study,
in this paper I will be exploring what his method was and the main tool he used for it. Descartes
method begins with a notion that is simple to state but hard to imagine; that everything around us is
not real, it s a scary concept, and a huge one to take hold of so Descartes introduces a tool that helps to
illuminate how much doubt there can be in the world around us. This tool is that of the evil genius,
Descartes proposes that it is entirely possible that our minds are being controlled by an evil genius that
wishes to deceive us into believing that the world around us is real. Descartes does not say that there is
an evil genius; he offers the concept of the evil genius to allow us to open our minds and see how
uncertain our world is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes is emerging from the era of alchemy and religious explanation; his goal is to find firm
ground for science and math to rise from. By saying that there is an evil genius that is controlling our
minds we are forced to reexamine all that we hold to be true; our friends, family, memories,
experiences, even things we are so sure of such as math and the sciences. Once we have discredited all
that we believe to be true we start over from scratch, and by starting with this blank state we will be
able to find certainty that we can build

Safe Harbor Retirement Plan
Are you a business owner who is concerned about attracting and retaining quality employees? Are you
unsure which retirement options you should offer your workforce due to complicated matching and
tax concerns? You re not alone. Many business owners struggle to provide the best retirement option
for both their employees and the business. One option that many businesses are choosing is a Safe
Harbor Retirement Plan. This style of retirement plan is popular because it benefits both the workers
and the business.
A Safe Harbor Retirement Plan is a 401(k) or 403(b) plan where the company makes a specific
contribution to every plan participant. Contribution options are either a flat 3% of total yearly pay to

I Believe In Signs
Do you believe in signs? Do you believe that the universe tries to talk to us all the time but we can
only hear the messages when we are ready? I do.
So my theme this year seems to be revolving around the multitude of times God has said Don t be
afraid . Ever since realizing that theme I have been so aware of my life moments when I know for sure
I would have been too afraid to do something or say something but I purposefully now choose the path
of bravery. This year it feels like the words Don t be afraid have been like a shield of armor around me
keeping fear at bay.
My attempts at living a life of don t be afraid first played out in my wanting to volunteer. It was as if I
had a calling from deep inside my soul to just do it; just put myself in the thick of where someone else
had a need.
A year ago I was made aware that people only volunteer where they feel most comfortable; that it is
rare that people will volunteer in places and activities they no nothing about or feel is too much away
from people and a life they are accustomed to. So I thought about that and realized that I didn t want
to be that kind of person so I signed up to be a volunteer in the cancer center of a hospital. Too many
scary, uncomfortable scenes played out in my head and that is how I knew it was the right thing to do.
Choosing this particular quest met all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Writing Techniques Used in The Bluest Eye Essay
Toni Morrison the first black woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, was born Chloe Anthony
Wofford on February 18, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio. She was the second of four children to George and
Ramah Wofford. Her parents moved to Ohio from the South to escape racism and to find better
opportunities in the North.
Lorain was a small industrial town populated with immigrant Europeans, Mexicans and Southern
blacks who lived next door to each other. Chloe attended an integrated school. In the first grade she
was the only black student in her class and the only one who could read.

She drinks several quarts of milk at the home of her friends Claudia and Frieda McTeer just to use
their Shirley Temple mug and glaze at young Temple s blue eyes. One day Pecola is raped by her
father, when the child the she conceives dies, Pecola goes mad. She comes to believe that she has the
bluest eyes of anyone.
In the novel, The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison incorporates various techniques, such as her use of
metaphors, the ironic use of names, and the visual images that she uses. The theme of The Bluest Eye,
revolves around African Americans conformity to white standards. A woman may whiten her skin,
straighten her hair and change its color, but she can not change the color of her eyes. The desire to
transform one s identity, itself becomes an inverted desire, becomes the desire for blues eye, which is
the symptom of Pecola s instability.
The Bluest Eye opens with a Dick and Jane paragraph, a white American Myth far removed from the
realities illustrated in the novel. Thereafter, the black narrator Claudia MacTeer relates much of the
story, and the reminder, which concerns events that Claudia could not have witnessed, is narrated
mostly by an unidentified voice. Claudia s narrative reveals the guilt that for a long time plagued her
and her sister in connection with another girl s miscarriage. The girl, Pecola Breedlove, was pregnant
with her own father s child

Inherited Genetic Variations
Inherited genetic variations may result from new genetic combinations through meiosis,
nondisjunction errors occurring during cell division and through mutations in the DNA of egg and
sperm cells.
Meiosis is a cell division that results in four daughter cells. The daughter cells have half the number of
chromosomes of the parent cells. In meiosis the Law of Independent Assortment states that the alleles
of one gene sort in gametes independently of the alleles of another gene. Meiosis increases inherited
genetic variation because during meiosis, homologous chromosomes each from one pair of parents.
The parents chromosomes cross over and and trade some genes when they break apart. This

Yucatan Peninsula Maya
Maya The Yucatan Peninsula is the exposed portion of the larger Yucatan Peninsula, all of which is
composed of carbonate and soluble rocks, being mostly limestone although dolomite and evaporites
are also present at various depths. The whole of the Yucatán Peninsula is an unconfined flat lying karst
landscape. Sinkholes, known locally as cenotes, are widespread in the northern lowlands. The Yucatan
peninsula usually experienced tropical weather. The Mayans grew corn, farmers also cultivated beans,
squash, and fruit trees. Black beans and red beans contributed protein to the Maya diet. Numerous
varieties of squash and pumpkin were grown. Droughts were one of the biggest threats to Mayan
farms. The Mayans found a way to store water in case of droughts. The Mayans used a farming
technique called slash and burn. Slash and burn meant that you would burn down forests and the land
that was leftover would be your farm. The leftover ash from slash and burn is very good for plants.

The Game Theory And Politics
Game Theory and Politics Whenever Game theory is taught at colleges, politics is one area that is
never touched upon as an application of game theory. Though game theory in international relations
and national politics has been a studied in detail in the past, there has been a recent increase in the
popularity of this study. An increasing number of game models are extensively being used in informed
studies of arms control, preservation of international peace, disarmament policies, environmental
treaties, national politics, international trade negotiations and bargaining process etc., with all the
studies sharing the assumption that all the players in the international arena are rational with respect to
the goals they seek to advance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, governments will gain if they engage in international cooperation to limit expenditure on
military buildup. This problem of arms, and in general any problem of cooperation, can be explained
through the game of prisoners dilemma. Prisoner s dilemma was conceptualized by Melvin Dresher
and Merrill Flood in 195, and formalized and named by Albert Tucker. This game provides a basic
framework for the balance between cooperation and competition and therefore, is used extensively in
strategic decision making. Our example, arms race, can be modeled through this game. Two
governments, lets all them A and B decide whether to build nuclear arms or not. Thus, each has two
choices: build nuclear arms (denote by w) and not build nuclear arms (denote by n) and their
respective choices give them certain payoff. The following 2x2 matrix describes the model: B A Build
(W) Not Build (N) Build (W) (2,2) (4,1) Not Build (N) (1,4) (3,3) We can see that if both countries
agree to not build nuclear arms, they have a higher payoff than they do if they both build. However, if
they differ in their choices, then the country that chooses to build will have a power advantage over
the other and thus, a higher payoff. In the above figure, if A chooses to build and if B

The Paralysis Of Eveline
Eveline faces a difficult dilemma: remain home like a dutiful daughter, or leave Dublin with her lover,
Frank, who is a sailor. Eveline Hill sits at a window in her home and reminisce the times when she as
a child played with other children in a field which now has been developed with new homes As
Eveline was trying to make a major decision whether or not to move to Buenos Ayres (escape) with
Frank. She holds two letters, one to her father, one to her brother Harry. She begins to favor the
sunnier memories of her old family life, when her mother was alive and her brother was living at
home. She thought back of the moment she promised her mom that she will put all her dedication in
maintaining this home. And she reasons that her life at home and doing all of those chores are hard,
but perhaps not in the worst position her father isn t always mean, after all. This memory is also
important for another reason as it suggests that a bond (or connection) still remains between Eveline,
her siblings and her father. Despite how her father treats her, Eveline still feels connected to him. This
pushes her to escape from the fate and embark on a new phase of life. Eveline s action, of dusting
every week for so many years is significant as it suggests repetition, doing the same thing, which in
turn would suggest a paralysis within Eveline. It is also significant that the dust remains. This suggests
that no matter how much Eveline does while at home nothing will change. Appears

Lab Report Experiment II
ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this lab is to extract the organic compound cinnamaldehyde from
cinnamon. The process used in order to execute the extraction of the cinnamaldehyde is called steam
distillation. After massing the Cinnamaldehyde on a scale in the laboratory, its total mass came out to
0.050 grams. The calculated percent yield came out to around 1.55%. The experiment yielded success
due to the fact that my data fell in the range (of the expected percent yield.)
PROCEDURES: The procedure for this lab experiment is located in Professor Zachary J. Poulos

After steam distillation occurred, the solvent was exposed to the open air for seven days. The
Cinnamaldehyde built up in the bottom of the test tube, baring the color brown. The calculated actual
percent yield of my experiment was 1.55%. This calculation fell in the range of the literature percent
yield of Cinnamaldehyde which is between 1.00 3.00%. Due to my calculation falling in range to what
is was supposed to be (literature percent yield), I would have to conclude that my experiment in this
lab was successful. However, there are many ways that this experiment could have gone wrong but
didn t. If I had not extracted enough crystals, or spilled some out of my container, my calculation
would not have fell in the range of the literature percent

Essay on Military Wear and Appearance
In this essay I will describe the many requirements and expectations set forth in the army s AR670 1. I
will describe the importance of obedience to it and cite many of it s detailed descriptions. I am writing
this essay because I failed to meet the standards asked of me me by both these regulations, and my
leadership. I accept the responsibility of my actions and will not let my failure recur, nor will I let my
fellow soldiers repeat my mistake. Since my failure was in regards to grooming or personal additions
to uniform, I thought it would be pertinent to cover these subjects most thoroughly, If any additional
information is required of me I will add on to this.

Also, articles should not protrude from pockets or have a bulky appearance. The regulation provides
guidance for all men and women in the army to keep this high standard of appearance. Army
regulation does not just stop with the uniform, it also includes hair, nails, cosmetics, jewelry, religious
articles, eyewear, tattoos, and ID tags.
Although all of AR670 1 is important to follow, I will start with the army grooming standards, due to
my failure to follow these set standards. When considering a change in hairstyle, as I did, it would be
wise for anyone to review AR670 1 to prevent assignments such as this. On top of following these
guidelines, consultation with ones leadership would be a smart measure. A general grooming standard
is important to maintain certain uniformity within the military. Although many hairstyles are
acceptable, they must be neat and conservative. Since it is impossible to address every acceptable
hairstyle or whether it is considered conservative or not, it is the responsibility of leaders at all levels
to demonstrate proper judgment on the enforcement of the standards. For men, it must have a tapered
appearance, not fall over the ears, eyebrows, or touch the back of the collar, except for the closely cut
hair on the back of the neck. Men are not authorized to have dreadlocks or cornrows. Hair that is
clipped closely or shaved to the scalp is permitted. Sideburns will be neatly trimmed and not flared

Jim Hawkins In Treasure Island
In the book Treasure Island, there are two main characters, Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver, the
pirate and leader of mutineers. They sound nothing alike in the beginning, the easily frightened Jim
and the cunning and silver tongued Long John Silver, but by the end of the story, the difference is not
so profound as had been expected. This, including the fact that they are willing to do whatever it takes
to get things done, even breaking a few rules. Jim Hawkins is the first character introduced when
writing down what had happened on the Island several years later. He starts off to seem like a rather
meek boy, who is afraid of the strange man in the Admiral Benbow. This starts to change for Jim
though when Billy Bones dies and he and his mother learn of the pirates coming to the Admiral
Benbow. He takes charge when needed, as seen when he touches the body of the dead Billy Bones
while looking for a key to the chest Bones had. He also takes charge when the pirates storm the
Benbow and he keeps him and his mother hidden out of the sight of the pirates.
When Long John Silver is first introduced, however, he is in cheerful spirits (pg, 55) and a clean, and
pleasant tempered landlord (pg, 57). He is also described as very loud and boisterous and seems to be

issues they encountered. He still keeps a part of the old Jim when he sneaks off to find Ben Gunn and

Prometheus Bound By Aeschylus
In Aeschylus Prometheus Bound, Zeus is portrayed as a brutal and vengeful tyrant. His tyranny is
mostly shown through the punishment of Prometheus. Zeus saw Prometheus giving humans fire as
betrayal and as revenge, punished Prometheus by pinning him to a rocky mountain in the Caucasus.
Instead of carrying out the punishment himself, Zeus had Might, Violence, and Hephaestus (who was
also Prometheus friend) carry it out instead. As stated in lines 13 18. Hephaestus was against
punishing Prometheus in such a violent, tortuous way, however, he still did it because he feared Zeus.
Prometheus was bound in an open area, where other gods could easily come to watch. Binding
Prometheus in such an area showed Zeus tyranny because like any other tyrant, Zeus was able to
instill fear into the other gods by showing what could happen if they betrayed him. As mentioned in
lines, 427 430, Zeus s harsh tyranny is also shown through the punishment of Atlas. Similar to
Prometheus, after betraying Zeus, Atlas was forced to carry the sky on his shoulders.

Role Model Worthy For The Field Of Social Work
There are many interesting and role model worthy people in the field of social work and social justice

many more. All of these people are worth of talking about when thinking of the idea of my personal
role model, but I find one woman to stand out more than the others. She is the woman who started
many social justice movements. This woman is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and demonstrated
the ethics and values that became the basis of the 100 year old social work profession ( Jane Addams ,

in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan, and received his degree of Masters
of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Massachusetts, US in 1994. Being one of
the most influential artists in the country, his works have been displayed in many exhibitions here in

different channels to represent the originality of his works using visual language. Rana s focus of work
nowadays are large scale images made up of small pictures, which are at times in contradiction with
each other, but sometimes also support the larger images. He is currently the head of the Fine Arts

Christ is the central person in Christian discipleship. Without Christ, Christianity would not exist and
there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be willing to

God disciplines those whom He loves and uses those whom follow His commandments. Jesus was
hanged on a cross and crucified so that we would have the opportunity to be saved. He suffered for us,
so we should take up our cross on a daily basis and follow Him. Christians must submit to Christ in
order to be used by Christ. When a person submits to Christ, the Holy Spirit will empower him to be
used of God. If a person does not submit to Christ, then the Holy Spirit will be quenched and the
Christian will be disciplined by God. Disciples of Christ do not receive salvation because they obey
God, but they obey God and submit to Christ because they have salvation (Rogers, Adrian, 2005).
Jesus told the disciples that if they call him Lord they must do what he commands (Matthew 7:22). To
be a disciple of Christ, we must submit to Jesus and trust that He is our Lord and Savior. We must
have faith in Him and look to Him as our guide. Disciples of Christ should obey Jesus because God is
not a man, but a sovereign God who has every right to command His disciples. Christ is not just a
sovereign God, but also a saving God who suffered on a cross so that humans could receive salvation.
Disciples of Christ who are saved by grace are not their own, but bought with a price that Jesus paid
on the cross. Dietrich Bonhoeffer: The disciples are called blessed because they have obeyed the call
of Jesus.2 To be a disciple of Christ, we must

evoke the comic process of role reversals or inversion. Inversion creates humor through the mixing up
of expected hierarchies by placing the lower caste members of society on top. Thus, role reversals
offer short term liberation by reimagining the way of life, which creates the possibility to mediate
polarized interests. For example, in Lysistrata, Aristophanes exploits the status of women as social
outsiders and inverts their role to construct an alternative model to civic government. In The
Shoemaker s Holiday, Simon Eyre, a shoemaker, becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The carnival experience of women on top, for example, gives women a clearer picture of the real
power to which they are entitled. The power the women of Lysistrata are entitled to is one of the civic,
which is male dominated. Lysistrata announces that she will act as manager of the public funds and
will cease financing military operations on the grounds that the war is unnecessary: LYSISTRATA:
Keeping the money here will starve the war to death. COUNCILOR: Money and war? Huh?
LYSISTRATA: There s a rats nest in this town. Pisander and his public office stalking ilk Raised hell
it yielded marvelous chances to steal. Who gives a hoot what they do now? The money s safe.
COUNCILOR: And your plan is ? LYSISTRATA: You have to ask? It s management. COUNCILOR:
Of public funds? By you? LYSISTRATA: And what s so strange in that? You let us women do the
budgeting at home. COUNCILOR: It s not the same at all! (Aristophanes 488 496). With this new
power, the women who had been mute and confined within the house, propose an alternative model to
masculine modes of administering the civic government. Their alternative model addresses the public
issues of war and is based on principles of domestic economy. Lysistrata is fully conscious of

East s largest country. Saudi Arabia is officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Given
the title the birthplace of Islam , makes Saudi Arabia highly respected in the Middle East and in many
other Muslim countries and communities. Composed of over twenty seven million citizens, Saudi

business in the United States in various aspects, which will be discussed throughout this paper.
Ethical Challenges. Saudi Arabia faces ethical challenges that tend to hinder its progression while
being a very productive country as well. In regards to corruption, Saudi Arabia is ranked in the
middle, compared to any other country in the world. According to Transparency International, Saudi
Arabia ranks 48th out of the 168 countries in reference to corruption with a score of 52%. That 52%
means that Saudi Arabia is somewhat corrupt, with 0% being highly corrupt and 100% being very
clean (Transparency Index, 2016). Saudi Arabia has been making progress towards becoming less
corrupt, given that their Corruptions Perceptions Index score has risen every year since 2008. Reasons
being for this level of corruption is due to the government. The country has corruption laws in place
but these laws are not strictly enforced and are enforced at the discretion of the government. When

How Do Specific Enzymes Affect The Reaction Rate Of Reaction
Introduction Specific enzymes made up of proteins are used in biology to speed up a chemical
reaction of any kind. Since a spontaneous chemical reaction can occur without help from any outside
energy it could potentially prolong the reaction to where it becomes almost unnoticeable since it can
take years for it to happen. For this reason, enzymes take action as a catalyst that speed up the reaction
rate without completely being absorbed (Campbell et al., 2010). Enzymes are a form of regulation that
allow for a through pathway in chemical reactions. It is able to perform as a catalyst by lowering the
activation energy which is the energy required to drive the reactant to the top of the energy barrier
allowing the downhill part to begin. An

How Madagascar s Major Environmental Problems Affected...
A geographer explores how Madagascar s major environmental problems impact the wildlife
development in Madagascar
Abstract
This essay discusses how five different environmental problems that occur in Madagascar disturb the
plants and animals living in the country. Environmental problems include deforestation, agricultural
fires, erosion, overexploitation of living resources, and invasions of alien species. Unfortunately, as
result of the environmental problems, native species are losing their homes and are struggling to
survive. Fortunately, there are organizations where conservationists are working hard to help save the
animals from extinction.
When people think about Madagascar, images of beautiful, lush green rainforest, warm, sandy beaches
along crystal clear water and exotic animals come to mind. Madagascar is a large island that is located
in the Indian Ocean, just off the southeastern coast of Africa. According to Africa Diversity and
Development, the population in 2009 was nineteen point five million people, many of which living on
less than two dollars a day (Binns, 2011). This landmass is home to an extraordinary variety of
animals including Flat Tailed Geckos, Comet Moths, Panther Chameleons and Tomato Frogs. Many of
the animals found in Madagascar cannot be found anywhere else on this planet. Unfortunately,
environmental problems are negatively impacting the wildlife. Conservationist are forced to work
extra hard to help stop the destruction and save the

Radicle Perspectives in International Relations
Radical Theory of International Relations
Radical Theory derives its views from Marxist Theory. It is therefore sometimes referred to as
Marxism, Socialism or Socialists internationalism. Radicals believe that the state is nothing more than
a machine for the oppression of one class by another.
Although they consider the state to be an important actor in world affairs, they emphasize the
conflicting interests of social classes. Classes (capitalists, workers, and peasants), clash for control of
state policy within countries, and the government pursue not some overall national interest but the
interest of the dominant class. States are not unitary actors. Classes exist within societies but they also
span national boundaries. Capitalists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 2005 through 2007, the country was wracked by many thousands of protests from poor
communities. One of these gave rise to a mass movement of shack dwellers Abahlali BaseMjondolo
that continues to advocate for popular peoples planning and against the creation of a market economy
in land and housing. Today, many African countries have been accused of being exploited under neo
liberal economies. (Fredrick Engels: Socialism: Utopian and Scientific CH. Kerr. Pp 99 110. chapter

The peoples Republican of China, North Korea, Laos and Vietnam are Asian countries remaining from
the wave of Marxism Leninist Radical theory implemented socialism in the 21st century. States with
socialist economies have largely moved away from centralized economic planning in the 21st century
placing a greater emphasis on markets, in case of the Chinese Socialist Market economy and
Vietnamese Socialist oriented market economy.
Under Deng Xiaoping, the leadership of China embarked upon a programme of market based reform
that maintained state ownership of rights over land, state or cooperative ownership of much of the
heavy industrial and manufacturing sectors and state influence in the banking and financial sectors.
Elsewhere in Asia, Some elected socialist parties and communist parties remain prominent. In

Comparative Rhetorical Analysis Of Andy Stern
Comparative Rhetorical Analysis
Everyone views things a little differently, therefore different writers have different perspectives about
different subject matter. For example, while Andy Stern s stance is that technology will one day take
over the jobs of the working class Dean Baker thinks it has nothing to do with the rise in technology at
all and more to do with generating demand through government deficits. The way Stern successfully
incorporates ethos, pathos, and logos in his piece of writing is more appropriate and effective in
accomplishing rhetorical purpose than Baker s writing.
Ethos is basically the authors credibility, the reader must decide if the author of the writing is
trustworthy and believable. Pathos is how to author appeals

The Beginning Of The Twentieth Century
The beginning of the twentieth century marked a significant event not just in the changes of ideology,
technology, but also the way artists approach art. Communism and Fascism were on the rise and
technological advances held strong since the industrial revolution. However, The need for a wholesale
new approach to art in the nineteenth century arose as the traditional forms of art were borne down on
by new conditions and experiences. (21) became apparent. To satisfy this need artists took many
different approaches, but three most significant they approaches this issue involve: the rejection of
traditional art, protesting status quo, and the non western approach. Although each approach is rapidly
different from the other, they share the same bond of testing the boundary of art and at times ignoring
it completely. This resulted in artwork becoming more powerful, meaningful, and influential. At the
turn of the nineteenth century artist decided to approach art in a new way, meaning they started to
reject traditional art. Artists craved new art to better represent the new conditions and experiences that
were felt. This was described by ``The need for a wholesale new approach to art in the nineteenth
century arose as the traditional forms of art were borne down on by new conditions and experiences.
(21). In particular the experience of technology like the world has never seen before, where traditional
art didn t seem to be able to produce content that satisfy these new

Research Paper On Michelangelo Buonarroti
In this essay I be discussing subtractive sculpture which one of the many types of art sculpture and an
artist that truly captured and encompass this type of art work. Subtractive sculpture is the art works of
carving. Usually this works begins with a large block of wood or stone and the artist cuts away the
unwanted material. Stone carving was originated near the Mediterranean around the 13th century and
one of the greatest subtractive artists is Michelangelo Buonarroti, born March 6, 1475 in Caprese,
Tuscany. Michelangelo known for his art painting as well. One of Michelangelo s greatest sculptures
is the Pietà, noted to be one of the art history greatest sculpture.

Which ties into the principle of composition of the sculpture, Mary s body is greater than that of Jesus,
yet it looks natural. The proportion of the work gives it mass and draws the viewer into every inch of
the sculptor. Your eyes follow the face of Mary to her drapery as it cradled Jesus body. Her face looks
youthful; stated that her youthfulness attest to her purity which the artist portrays in the sculptor. Her
face not depicted in a grief stricken state, however; it portrays resignation has to say she knew and was
acceptable of her son s death. The way that Mary is holding Jesus lifeless body is the way a mother
holds her baby for the very first time. The face of Jesus in this sculpture does not show signs of
suffering. One could say that it was the Michelangelo s intention to create an image that showed a face
of serene and abandonment in Jesus. The sculpture shows the greatest sacrifice for mankind and the
ultimate expression of eternal love. The focal point of the sculptor is Mary s face; which shows love
for her son and blessed by God to have Jesus as her

The Invention Of Submarines, 1890-1920 s
Throughout the Progressive Era, 1890 to 1920, there was an enormous amount of change that would
forever change the history of the United States of America. Ten years into this era had brought the
biggest military technological innovation which was the first submarine, USS Holland Submarine.
This submarine was named after its designer, John P. Holland, who was an Irish immigrant who set the
foundation to the modern submarines. However, designs of having underwater boats did not start up in
the 1900 s but was thought of since the 1500 s. Cornelius Drebbel was the first inventor to make a
working submarine who was hired in 1603 by James 1 of England. With this it is obvious that the
development of an underwater boat has been there for a long time, but as time went on, it was
perfected each time while learning something new every time. On April 11, 1900, the U.S. acquired its
first submarine (Today in History April 11.) which transformed the Progressive Era by changing on

He was fascinated with the idea of building a submarine but did not have enough funds to continue his
plans until he came to the United States. In New Jersey, there was a group called Fenian Society who
was willing to fund his submarine experiments, which he wanted to use against the British navy. He
studied the failures of the previous submarines and then perfected and tested his first submarine,
known as the Fenian Ram, in 1878. After seeing his success, he knew that in order for his submarine
to be perfected he would need the United States approval. In 1898, John P. Holland launched the 53
feet long Holland submarine, and the United Stated was interested and purchased it in 1900 and
ordered six more to be built. The cost of this submarine was 150,000 dollars compared to today s
nuclear powered submarines which cost about 30,000,000

2014 General Social Survey
My research hypothesis for this study is, if someone has a higher total family income, then they will
be less likely to believe that the government should do more to help improve the standard of living
rather than individuals should help themselves. The independent variable that I will be identifying and
researching will be total family income which is coded as INCOME06 in the General Social Survey
codebook. The dependent variable that I will analyze and discuss is coded as HELPPOOR in the 2014
General Social Survey codebook and labeled with the question, should the government do more to
improve standard of living? On the other hand, the null hypothesis for this study is that there is no
support between the relationship of total family income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you can see in Table 1, the independent variable, total family income, had a total of 224 missing
responses. Table 3 shows our dependent variable, should the government improve standard of living,
unfortunately there was a large number of missing data which is totaled to 900 respondents. Lastly, the
control variable, age, in Table 5, shows that there were only 9 missing responses for this variable. A
missing response could mean that an individual refused to answer, did not know, or are inapplicable
(IAP). As the dependent variable showed a large number of missing data, almost all of that missing
data was IAP. The three variables each have their on unique aspect to them, but they are rather straight
forward. Age and total family income are very concrete and definite answers given by a respondent, as
the questions are straightforward. Should the government improve standard of living, on the other
hand, is a little different. This variable, HELPPOOR, is based on attitude and must be though about a
little more than the others. HELPPOOR is set up as a Likert scale. Using this scale, you determine

  • 2. The Similarities And Differences Of Greek And Roman Heroes Introduction. Greek mythological heroes, and Roman mythological heroes share similar trades, however are different in many ways. These similarities and differences can be identified when looking at the means for the creation of a hero, and a hero s life (birth, challenges, death), and how they become a hero. Thus will this easay discuses Greek and roman heroes from the Trojan war to identify the similarities and difference between them. Important to use primary sources to identify the similarities and difference, thus will the Aenied and the Odyssey be used. Heroes. The fact that both heroes, from Greek and Roman mythology sharechallenegs through out their lives, the difference comes in at the exstent and cause of their challenges (Kirk, 1970:33) . Odysseus challenges are much greater, but his is selfish, his challenges are due to what he and his family needs. Aenues challenges however are based on the greater good, of Rome. Thus can one conclude a Greek hero, becomes a hero throughout his life, but does not have to die like a Roman hero for that title. How they become a hero Aenus has to die. Boilling with rage. The three i think are the most important are Separation of Powers, Popular sovereignty and federalism. These stand out to me because i feel like they re the most of about what goes on in the world today. Separation of powers is a very important part of society today. The three different powers is the Judicial branch, Legislative branch and the Executive branch. Those are also known as the 3 branches of government. Each branch has a different power and certain types of laws and rules they can enforce. They have separation of powers sdso that one branch does not have to much power or too little power. • 5. Essay about Brown v. Board of Education Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas was a milestone in American history, as it began the long process of racial integration, starting with schools. Segregated schools were not equal in quality, so African American families spearheaded the fight for equality. Brown v. Board stated that public schools must integrate. This court decision created enormous controversy throughout the United States. Without this case, the United States may still be segregated today. Although the Fourteenth Amendment, when adopted in 1868, gave certain rights to blacks, including citizenship, equal protection of law and other freedoms, African Americans were considered inferior by whites in this country. In 1896, Plessy v. Ferguson officially made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The five reports of school segregation separately went to local courts with no avail. The cases then appealed to the Supreme Court, where they were pooled under the title Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas . (Good, 31, 32) (Davidson et al. 850) Lawyers for Brown v. Board were sent from the NAACP. The NAACP was created in 1909 and stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Its mission is to protect the educational, social and economic rights minorities throughout the United States. One way the NAACP fought for equality was to supply lawyers for those whose rights were violated. (Benoit, 17 19) There were many arguments both for and against school segregation. One was the claim that educational decisions were to be left to the state and local courts, and not to be decided by the Supreme Court. Another was that students should be taught where they are most comfortable learning. It was thought that white children were more comfortable learning with white children and the same goes for African American children. Also, students must be given and equal learning environment, not the same school. Lastly, the defenders of segregation claimed that African American students were living with the effects of slavery, and were not able to compete with the white children. • 6. The Bible Is Not A Children s Book Essay The Bible is not a children s book. Not only is it beyond the length and reading level appropriate for younger audiences, it often covers what some parents might consider inappropriate topics. Imagine finding an illustrated children s bible containing graphic stories about talking to ghosts or children being burned alive as sacrifices to God. These are troubling stories that actually appear within the Hebrew Bible, which even some adults may feel uncomfortable discussing. Academic scholarship of the Bible, however, should not be influenced by such discomfort. This has led a handful of scholars to study these death related experiences within ancient Israelite contexts. The last thirty years have revealed at least two contemporary topics of conversations between scholars within this subfield: necromancy and child sacrifice among ancient Israelite religion. Typically, dialogue about ancient Israelites is framed among the broader beliefs and practices of peoples from the surrounding geographical region including the Canaanites, Egyptians, and other ancient peoples; these topics are no exception. While, there is also no consensus among modern scholars, the majority of academics appear to accept both child sacrifice and necromancy as a historical practice belonging to the worship of Yahweh. Nonetheless, these scholars continue to do so with varying degrees of beliefs about the particular conditions during which these controversial customs were performed. ... • 7. Renee Descartes Method Of Doubt Renee Descartes Method of Doubt is an incredibly interesting and mind bending philosophy to study, in this paper I will be exploring what his method was and the main tool he used for it. Descartes method begins with a notion that is simple to state but hard to imagine; that everything around us is not real, it s a scary concept, and a huge one to take hold of so Descartes introduces a tool that helps to illuminate how much doubt there can be in the world around us. This tool is that of the evil genius, Descartes proposes that it is entirely possible that our minds are being controlled by an evil genius that wishes to deceive us into believing that the world around us is real. Descartes does not say that there is an evil genius; he offers the concept of the evil genius to allow us to open our minds and see how uncertain our world is. ... So my theme this year seems to be revolving around the multitude of times God has said Don t be afraid . Ever since realizing that theme I have been so aware of my life moments when I know for sure I would have been too afraid to do something or say something but I purposefully now choose the path of bravery. This year it feels like the words Don t be afraid have been like a shield of armor around me keeping fear at bay. My attempts at living a life of don t be afraid first played out in my wanting to volunteer. It was as if I had a calling from deep inside my soul to just do it; just put myself in the thick of where someone else had a need. A year ago I was made aware that people only volunteer where they feel most comfortable; that it is rare that people will volunteer in places and activities they no nothing about or feel is too much away from people and a life they are accustomed to. So I thought about that and realized that I didn t want to be that kind of person so I signed up to be a volunteer in the cancer center of a hospital. In the novel, The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison incorporates various techniques, such as her use of metaphors, the ironic use of names, and the visual images that she uses. The theme of The Bluest Eye, revolves around African Americans conformity to white standards. A woman may whiten her skin, straighten her hair and change its color, but she can not change the color of her eyes. The desire to transform one s identity, itself becomes an inverted desire, becomes the desire for blues eye, which is the symptom of Pecola s instability. The Bluest Eye opens with a Dick and Jane paragraph, a white American Myth far removed from the realities illustrated in the novel. Thereafter, the black narrator Claudia MacTeer relates much of the story, and the reminder, which concerns events that Claudia could not have witnessed, is narrated mostly by an unidentified voice. Yucatan Peninsula Maya Maya The Yucatan Peninsula is the exposed portion of the larger Yucatan Peninsula, all of which is composed of carbonate and soluble rocks, being mostly limestone although dolomite and evaporites are also present at various depths. The whole of the Yucatán Peninsula is an unconfined flat lying karst landscape. Sinkholes, known locally as cenotes, are widespread in the northern lowlands. The Yucatan peninsula usually experienced tropical weather. The Mayans grew corn, farmers also cultivated beans, squash, and fruit trees. Black beans and red beans contributed protein to the Maya diet. Numerous varieties of squash and pumpkin were grown. Droughts were one of the biggest threats to Mayan farms. The Mayans found a way to store water in case of droughts. The Mayans used a farming technique called slash and burn. • 13. The Game Theory And Politics Game Theory and Politics Whenever Game theory is taught at colleges, politics is one area that is never touched upon as an application of game theory. Though game theory in international relations and national politics has been a studied in detail in the past, there has been a recent increase in the popularity of this study. An increasing number of game models are extensively being used in informed studies of arms control, preservation of international peace, disarmament policies, environmental treaties, national politics, international trade negotiations and bargaining process etc., with all the studies sharing the assumption that all the players in the international arena are rational with respect to the goals they seek to advance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, governments will gain if they engage in international cooperation to limit expenditure on military buildup. This problem of arms, and in general any problem of cooperation, can be explained through the game of prisoners dilemma. Prisoner s dilemma was conceptualized by Melvin Dresher and Merrill Flood in 195, and formalized and named by Albert Tucker. This game provides a basic framework for the balance between cooperation and competition and therefore, is used extensively in strategic decision making. Our example, arms race, can be modeled through this game. Two governments, lets all them A and B decide whether to build nuclear arms or not. Thus, each has two choices: build nuclear arms (denote by w) and not build nuclear arms (denote by n) and their respective choices give them certain payoff. The following 2x2 matrix describes the model: B A Build (W) Not Build (N) Build (W) (2,2) (4,1) Not Build (N) (1,4) (3,3) We can see that if both countries agree to not build nuclear arms, they have a higher payoff than they do if they both build. However, if they differ in their choices, then the country that chooses to build will have a power advantage over the other and thus, a higher payoff. • 14. The Paralysis Of Eveline Eveline faces a difficult dilemma: remain home like a dutiful daughter, or leave Dublin with her lover, Frank, who is a sailor. Eveline Hill sits at a window in her home and reminisce the times when she as a child played with other children in a field which now has been developed with new homes As Eveline was trying to make a major decision whether or not to move to Buenos Ayres (escape) with Frank. She holds two letters, one to her father, one to her brother Harry. She begins to favor the sunnier memories of her old family life, when her mother was alive and her brother was living at home. She thought back of the moment she promised her mom that she will put all her dedication in maintaining this home. And she reasons that her life at home and doing all of those chores are hard, but perhaps not in the worst position her father isn t always mean, after all. This memory is also important for another reason as it suggests that a bond (or connection) still remains between Eveline, her siblings and her father. Despite how her father treats her, Eveline still feels connected to him. This pushes her to escape from the fate and embark on a new phase of life. Eveline s action, of dusting every week for so many years is significant as it suggests repetition, doing the same thing, which in turn would suggest a paralysis within Eveline. It is also significant that the dust remains. This suggests that no matter how much Eveline does while at home nothing will change. Appears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although all of AR670 1 is important to follow, I will start with the army grooming standards, due to my failure to follow these set standards. When considering a change in hairstyle, as I did, it would be wise for anyone to review AR670 1 to prevent assignments such as this. On top of following these guidelines, consultation with ones leadership would be a smart measure. A general grooming standard is important to maintain certain uniformity within the military. This, including the fact that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get things done, even breaking a few rules. Jim Hawkins is the first character introduced when writing down what had happened on the Island several years later. He starts off to seem like a rather meek boy, who is afraid of the strange man in the Admiral Benbow. This starts to change for Jim though when Billy Bones dies and he and his mother learn of the pirates coming to the Admiral Benbow. He takes charge when needed, as seen when he touches the body of the dead Billy Bones while looking for a key to the chest Bones had. He also takes charge when the pirates storm the Benbow and he keeps him and his mother hidden out of the sight of the pirates. When Long John Silver is first introduced, however, he is in cheerful spirits (pg, 55) and a clean, and pleasant tempered landlord (pg, 57). • 18. Prometheus Bound By Aeschylus In Aeschylus Prometheus Bound, Zeus is portrayed as a brutal and vengeful tyrant. His tyranny is mostly shown through the punishment of Prometheus. Zeus saw Prometheus giving humans fire as betrayal and as revenge, punished Prometheus by pinning him to a rocky mountain in the Caucasus. Instead of carrying out the punishment himself, Zeus had Might, Violence, and Hephaestus (who was also Prometheus friend) carry it out instead. As stated in lines 13 18. Hephaestus was against punishing Prometheus in such a violent, tortuous way, however, he still did it because he feared Zeus. Prometheus was bound in an open area, where other gods could easily come to watch. Binding Prometheus in such an area showed Zeus tyranny because like any other tyrant, Zeus was able to instill fear into the other gods by showing what could happen if they betrayed him. As mentioned in lines, 427 430, Zeus s harsh tyranny is also shown through the punishment of Atlas. Similar to Prometheus, after betraying Zeus, Atlas was forced to carry the sky on his shoulders. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Without Christ, Christianity would not exist and there would be no followers of Christ. To be true followers of Christ, believers must be willing to learn of the ways and teachings of Christ. Jesus was hanged on a cross and crucified so that we would have the opportunity to be saved. He suffered for us, so we should take up our cross on a daily basis and follow Him. Christians must submit to Christ in order to be used by Christ. When a person submits to Christ, the Holy Spirit will empower him to be used of God. If a person does not submit to Christ, then the Holy Spirit will be quenched and the Christian will be disciplined by God. Disciples of Christ do not receive salvation because they obey God, but they obey God and submit to Christ because they have salvation (Rogers, Adrian, 2005). Jesus told the disciples that if they call him Lord they must do what he commands (Matthew 7:22). To be a disciple of Christ, we must submit to Jesus and trust that He is our Lord and Savior. We must have faith in Him and look to Him as our guide. Disciples of Christ should obey Jesus because God is not a man, but a sovereign God who has every right to command His disciples. Christ is not just a sovereign God, but also a saving God who suffered on a cross so that humans could receive salvation. Disciples of Christ who are saved by grace are not their own, but bought with a price that Jesus paid on the cross. • 22. Lysistrata And Aristophara Although Aristophanes Lysistrata is a form of Old Comedy, which satirizes the life of the polis, and Thomas Dekker s The Shoemaker s Holiday is a form of English renaissance comedy, both plays evoke the comic process of role reversals or inversion. Inversion creates humor through the mixing up of expected hierarchies by placing the lower caste members of society on top. Thus, role reversals offer short term liberation by reimagining the way of life, which creates the possibility to mediate polarized interests. For example, in Lysistrata, Aristophanes exploits the status of women as social outsiders and inverts their role to construct an alternative model to civic government. • 24. How Do Specific Enzymes Affect The Reaction Rate Of Reaction Introduction Specific enzymes made up of proteins are used in biology to speed up a chemical reaction of any kind. Since a spontaneous chemical reaction can occur without help from any outside energy it could potentially prolong the reaction to where it becomes almost unnoticeable since it can take years for it to happen. For this reason, enzymes take action as a catalyst that speed up the reaction rate without completely being absorbed (Campbell et al., 2010). Enzymes are a form of regulation that allow for a through pathway in chemical reactions. It is able to perform as a catalyst by lowering the activation energy which is the energy required to drive the reactant to the top of the energy barrier allowing the downhill part to begin. An ... • 28. The Beginning Of The Twentieth Century The beginning of the twentieth century marked a significant event not just in the changes of ideology, technology, but also the way artists approach art. Communism and Fascism were on the rise and technological advances held strong since the industrial revolution. However, The need for a wholesale new approach to art in the nineteenth century arose as the traditional forms of art were borne down on by new conditions and experiences. (21) became apparent. To satisfy this need artists took many different approaches, but three most significant they approaches this issue involve: the rejection of traditional art, protesting status quo, and the non western approach. Although each approach is rapidly different from the other, they share the same bond of testing the boundary of art and at times ignoring it completely. This resulted in artwork becoming more powerful, meaningful, and influential. At the turn of the nineteenth century artist decided to approach art in a new way, meaning they started to reject traditional art. Artists craved new art to better represent the new conditions and experiences that were felt. The Invention Of Submarines, 1890-1920 s Throughout the Progressive Era, 1890 to 1920, there was an enormous amount of change that would forever change the history of the United States of America. Ten years into this era had brought the biggest military technological innovation which was the first submarine, USS Holland Submarine. This submarine was named after its designer, John P. Holland, who was an Irish immigrant who set the foundation to the modern submarines. However, designs of having underwater boats did not start up in the 1900 s but was thought of since the 1500 s. Cornelius Drebbel was the first inventor to make a working submarine who was hired in 1603 by James 1 of England. With this it is obvious that the development of an underwater boat has been there for a long time, but as time went on, it was perfected each time while learning something new every time.
