salinger Essay
LIFE AND PHILOSOPHY OF J.D. SALINGER
J.D. Salinger is one of the most renowned writers of his time. J. D. Salinger is most known for his
controversial in the Catcher in the Rye. Salinger is also known for many of his writings such as
Franney and Zooey, Nine Stories, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters. The summer of 1930 he
was voted The Most Popular Writer . Salinger is a beautifully deft, professional who gives us a chance
to catch quick, half amused, half frightened glimpses of ourselves and our contemporaries, as he
confronts us with his brilliant mirror images (Lomazoff 1). In the novel, Catcher in the Rye, there is a
relationship between the main character, Holden Caulfield, and Salinger. J.D. Salinger s Catcher in ...

In the mid 1940 s Zen Buddhism began to influence Salinger s life and writings. Also, in the early 50 s
Salinger met frequently met with teenagers while writing Catcher. These influences, and also the fact
that he was an unknown writer made him free from clichés and slogans that the rest of the world fell
prey to. Salinger only seeked independence, growth, and stability in his life. Because Salinger was not
a renowned writer, he did not have to worry about meeting expectations or censorship. Salinger would
never try to censor himself, and felt that he should not have to. He frequently speaks of a phony
society in which we all live in and in order to be accepted into the adult world, we must become a
phony . Being a phony meaning, adjusting yourself to become what is socially acceptable even though
it may not be what you desire to achieve.
His work is a unique phenomenon, important as the voice of a silent generation in revolt against a
phony world and in search of mystical escapes from a deteriorating society rather than causes
promising political revolution or reform (French 4).
Many of Salingers views for The Catcher in the Rye come from his intense hatred for hypocrisy. In the
novel, Holden Caulfield feels that he must not submit to the phoniness of life, but attain an attitude of
tolerance, understanding, and live which will make his life endurable.

Persuasive Essay On Monuments And Memorials
Monuments, are how we as people can relive the past and be able to put ourselves at that time period.
For Americans the 9/11 memorial puts us in the gravity and it gives us the impact of what that disaster
did but, it also shows a sense of beauty with how the water falls into the spot where once stood a tall
and powerful building. Monuments, have the aura that has a sense of empathy and shows more
emotion than words ever could, the Holocaust museum gives a solid reminder of what genocide really
is. Monuments and memorials should be based on the size location and what it is actually standing for
it should be for someone who has been influential or it should be something of war or tragedy. We as
Americans don t pay attention to local cemeteries but when they see the Arlington cemetery or
Vietnam memorial or even the WWII memorial people understand what death is really like and are
more appreciative of those people who fought for the United States. Monuments and Memorials are
not to remember those who fought for slavery, who have committed genocide, or any acts of treason
and terrorism there should be no reason to make a statue that symbolizes something that a culture and
a nation does not stand for anymore. Therefore, a Monument should consider the location, size, and
why the monument is built along with the emotional aura that goes along with it.
Monuments should be be put in a location where it is a hub or if the person or event was in fact there.
The memorial was built

Mainstreaming Research Paper
Does mainstreaming benefit dancers special Ed and normal Ed? I believe mainstreaming benefits both
dancers in different ways. For special Ed students dance improves their social skills and creates a safe
environment for theses students to release their emotion. For normal Ed students it helps them create
life long friends and experience other people s point of view. Although all of these ideas are positive
one of the down sides is providing a quality education for both students but the positive impacts are
greater, it improves the students social skills, provides a safe place to release emotion, and creates life
long friends. Mainstreaming may not benefit the normal Ed student quite as much as the special Ed
student but, it would impact their life in a different way. Further, if students ... Show more content on

benefits are much much greater. Negatives can all be solves if the students in the class knew what they
had signed up for to be mentor and was prepared to work with these students. Creating a project unify

secure environments. Overall I agree with creating a project unify for dance arts because the benefits

To What Extent Does Patrick Suskind Develop Grenouille s...
Throughout the novel Perfume by Patrick Suskind, there is an obvious use of literary devices used to
describe the scents which Grenouille, the protagonist, smells, the way in which Grenouille smells
aromas, as this is different to the average persons scent capacity, and the relevance of the aroma, as he
emphasizes those smells which have an impact in the book through a more vivid and specific
explanation. This will be a comparison of two passages for the novel, one from the beginning of
Grenouille s life, and one from the end, in order to obtain a comparison in the description of scents
through the novel. Suskind uses devices such as metaphors, italics, and juxtaposition, to name a few,
to highlight the smell or aroma which Grenouille ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction used in the first text is not one of sophistication; as a child would be have speech that was
not yet fully developed. This is shown through the first two sentences of the description on the people
and laces affected by this smell, as it is a list of common people and places rather than a detailed
explanation and specific location. The language in this extract continues to develop into more
developed thought such as when Suskind explains there is no limitation to the scent. This explanation
as to the limitation of the stench is used not only to compare the horrific smell of Paris, but also to
emphasis the severity of this smell as even the King himself stank . This explanation as to the severity
of the smell is seemingly juvenile compared with that in the second text, as the first text simply says
what the smell is not limited to and creates a list of these things, while the second text goes on to
describe the reactions to this smell, this is more developed as it shows the influence of the scent
Grenouille has created, and the influence it creates on society. The first extract, although not as
developed as the second, gradually becomes slightly more mature through the paragraph, symbolizing
the growth of Grenouille through his introduction to Paris through the use of more

Reflection On Personal Development
When I evaluate my school year, many things come to mind. I think about friend. i think about the
highs and lows. I also think about how much I grew. My 7th grade year at CMS was full of concepts
learned, memorable experiences, and personal growth. Some concepts i learned were . In Mrs.sanchez
5th period class we learned about sexual reproduction with grasshoppers. We learned about the genes
and what sexual reproduction means. Sexual reproduction means a genetic material from 2 parents
combined to make a new organism. And also meiosis sperm an egg during chromosomes the pairs
separate. A fun memory I had these days we re working with my group and they would think it was
weird everytime they say sexual reproduction.we also learned that chromosomes theory of inheritance
genes are carried from parents to their offspring on chromosomes. A question me and my group had
was why do they travel in pairs? we never answered it. We also learned about mendel s work. Mendel
s work showed that the dominant alleles don t come up as present when another is present. Each
human has 23 chromosomes. And grasshoppers have 24 chromosomes which is just 12 pair. Some
more questions my group had was do other insects have more chromosomes? And can more than half
of a parent s chromosomes go to its offspring? And before we started we had to write down a question
and it was what is mendel s work? sutton hypothesize that chromosomes were the key to
understanding how offspring have traits similar to

I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died By Emily Dickinson
When reading poetry, many will notice that certain words seem to be draw together. When read aloud
this becomes even more apparent. The poet does this purposely to help the poem flow in the way that
the poet wants it to. Whether it be jagged and full of pauses to match an uneven or harsh theme, or
smooth and flowy to match a theme that is easier to grasp. Poetry is a special type of writing that can
appeal to almost any and everything that one may feel. Poets have many different ways of enhancing
the meaning of the poem through the sound of the poem.
In the poem, I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died, by Emily Dickinson, the poet uses sound to enhance
the theme of her poem. The poem starts out sounding slightly boring and then intriguing all in

The Breakdown Of The Basic Nature Of Chinese Poetry
The breakdown of the basic nature of Chinese and English lyrical relations shows that they can be
distinguished from one another through the use of metaphor to evoke the relationship between scene
and feeling and vehicle and tenor respectively. The Western poetry s use of metaphor celebrates the
use of human deception through a made up connection between that which is being talked about
(tenor) and the one who talks about it (vehicle). On the other hand, the Chinese poetry s relies on the
metaphor to come up with the context of scene and feeling which involves the appreciation of the
dynamic lyrical resonance between nature and the human being. Moreover, while the Western practice
engages in purposeful process of conveyance to formulate such explicit correspondence between tenor
and vehicle, the Chinese tradition is set apart by the spontaneous encounter that evokes the implicit
correspondence between scene and feeling. This paper therefore looks into the use of scene and
feeling in Chinese poetry and tenor and vehicle in Western poetry in relation to the metaphor with an
effort to highlight their differences and application.
Scene and Feeling relationship
The term scene basically portrays the physical context that is described in the poem. This physical
context usually entails descriptions of rivers, mountains, vegetation, and animal life among others
(Yanfang 186). When it comes to Chinese poetry, the portrayal of nature is a key element. However,

The Pros And Cons Of Fake News
Fake news is a problem that has affected everyone, especially politics, you ve might of encounter them
before but they re hard to indicate them. Fake news are false articles or stories that are passed down as
true. These fake news are categorized into three different spots. The categories are Satirical news,
clickbait, and Partisan bias articles. Satirical news or satire is a type of parody presented in a format
typical of mainstream journalism. According to merriam webster clickbait is something (such as a
headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to
content of dubious value or interest . Partisan bias articles are articles made by an adherent or
supporter of a person, group, and party that shows favors of or shows being against one thing. Even
though there many articles out there, Indicating whether they re real is hard but not impossible.
First of all many have thoughts and wonder why are fake articles harmful ? They re so harmful in fact
that big internet programs like Google and Facebook are attempting to remove them from their sites.
Fake articles are harmful because they spread false information about a topic. The information spread
by a false article can cripple or ruin someone s reputation. For example the new york times made a
article about Eric Tucker. Eric tucker a man in Austin, Texas, with only about 40 Twitter followers,
fueled a nationwide conspiracy theory about demonstrations against Mr. Trump.

The Contributions Of Philip Zimbardo And Social Psychology
Philip Zimbardo is known for his famous prison experiment that revealed some important facts about
human nature. This type of experiment had never been done before. The Stanford prison experiment
was designed to find out whether the brutality reported among guards in American prisons was due to
the sadistic personalities of the guards or had more to do with the prison environment (McLeod 1).
Zimbardo was influenced by the Milgram experiment, which was a study of the power of the situation.
He says that the Milgram experiment was focused on one on one social power. Zimbardo s experiment
was focused on institutional power over the individual in groups due to the change of the environment.
Zimbardo has written many books about social psychology, which is the study of human behaviors
and the social situation. I learned about Zimbardo in my Psychology 100 class. He was born on March
23, 1933, and is still alive to this day. His studies and experiments are what influenced me to go into
the field of psychology. Zimbardo is a crucial social psychologist because of his prison experiment,
which led to unique discoveries.
Zimbardo decided to conduct the prison experiment because of his interest in social psychology. He
was influenced by the milligram experiment that left a great impact on him as a person. According to
Zimbardo, he said that he wanted to expand on the Milgram s experiment and focus less on power
authority and obedience. The prison experiment mainly focused on the

Durkheim reasoned that being apart of society and integrated into groups in particular is a main factor.
The more involved in society and connected to others the less likely they are to commit suicide. As
this sense of belonging decreases suicide increases. Durkheim s theory is formulated by four types of

The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake And Jack London s Reportings
The earthquake on April 18, 1906, in San Francisco is considered one of the most important
earthquakes ever. Ultimately, its main significance comes from the knowledge gained from it, not just
the size of it. It was the first large natural disaster captured with photographs. The geologists of the
time didn t know what could have caused such a large earthquake as plate tectonics wasn t a very
popular theory back then. Studying the movement and crust near the fault, Reid developed a theory
called Elastic Rebound theory, which is still used to this day to explain earthquakes (The Great 1906
San Francisco Earthquake). Foreshocks began at approximately 5:12 AM California time. Then, not
half a minute later, the main earthquake occurred. The epicenter wasn t actually in San Francisco, but
it was close. Most of the damage in San Francisco was caused by fire which burned the town for three
consecutive days and nights. In areas along the fault line, most of the damage was caused by shaking.
After the disaster occurred, the public had to obtain information on this earthquake from reports and
photographs, which had to be sent all across the country. One of the most influential reporters was
Jack London. His importance comes from his effectiveness in telling without pictures what was
happening in San Francisco. One of

Moral Hierarchy In Antigone
There are many different moral levels that people have. People use reasoning that can be identified
with a particular stage on Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy. The higher stages of morality are
not usually achieved, according to Kohlberg. In a play called Antigone, one character, name Antigone,
has a high level of morality. In Antigone, written by Sophocles, he conveys various moral hierarchy
stages through character traits, reasoning, and moral development within this character Antigone is
portrayed as being morally straight and obedient to higher standards. She has a high moral standard.
For example, she argues to Ismene, He s my brother and yours too; and whether you will or not, I ll
stand by him. (Sophocles, ll 52 53). This is showing that she is very dedicated to her family. She will

Ethos is a type of reasoning that uses ethics. In this case, she says, I will stay with him, my brother;
and my crime will be devotion. (Sophocles, ll 89 90). Basically Antigone feels that serving her brother
is more important than obeying the law. This is showing that she places higher importance on moral
ethics than human laws. In another instance, Antigone states, Haven t you heard? Don t you see hatred
marches on love when friends, our own people, our family are treated as enemies? (Sophocles, ll 12
15). In short, she is saying that hatred is ruining her love for her brother in that Kreon is treating
Polyneices like an enemy by not giving him a proper burial. This goes against Antigone s views which
are that her brother deserves a burial regardless of what he did in his lifetime. This reasoning tells us
that Antigone has high levels of morality her standards prove her maturity. This type of reasoning puts
her at the fifth stage of Kohlberg s moral development hierarchy, which is social contract and
individual rights. Antigone has proven to be at a very high moral state throughout this

The Importance Of College Tuition
Furthermore, tuition annual rate has an outrageous inflation relationship with time. In Josh Mitchell
and Andrea Fuller Wall Street Journal it states, Among the four year schools in the Journal s analysis,
the average increase in tuition and fees was greater than 75% in the past decade, outpacing inflation.
(pp9). As college tuition continue to increase, the more individuals will be in debt. While the
importance of a higher education increases the chances of becoming successful, more people will
gravitate towards higher education knowing that loans will always be an option and having the idea
that debt is normal to ensure a stable future. Not only will this start to affect individuals but the
government will eventually suffer. Wight Martindale Jr states, ...too much money spent, too little

debt with a bunch of stress. He also talks about how it is a bubble, this is a bubble that many students
hate to be in. This bubble is known for being unable to burst which is a problem for multiple students
because college shouldn t be about money and stress. The more money the government give out and
not receive as much in and they borrow from different countries, the country will stay in debt itself.
Federal and or state governments need to implement a law to keep a reasonable cap on college tuition.
Because college tuition is constantly rising with no cap it creates mental health issues

How Benjamin Franklin Shaped American Culture
For his endless virtues in shaping the American aspect Benjamin Franklin could be considered as the
Father of the Country s persona. Benjamin Franklin can be considered one of the most influential
figures in the finding of the America nation. Franklin, the tenth son of fifteen children born to a family
of Boston artisans became a popular writer, world renowned scientist, successful publisher, civil
leader, diplomat, and a nation builder. Benjamin Franklin was the epitome of the Enlightenment, the
adaptable, practical embodiment of rational humanity in the eighteenth century (Loges, 23). Most
people are not familiar or aware of Franklin s input to the literary world. Franklin had unique views
and provided his generation with a different viewpoint on political and social events. Franklin poured
his thoughts into his writings, which were important to everyday life in everyday life during the
colonial age; important to American norms; and affected the virtues of the self made man.
Some of his widely known writings are his Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and Poor Richard s
Almanac (Perkins and Perkins, 191). When reading a work by Franklin, one can highlight the
importance of honesty and hard working ethic in life. The article The Way to Wealth becomes one of
the most important business books and had been reprinted as well as translated into many languages
(Carpenter, 2015). The article plays a significant role in shaping one of American character; self made

Factors In Air-Breathing Vertebrates
In air breathing vertebrates, the tidal volume of the lungs is the amount of air normally inhaled, while
the lung capacity is the maximum amount of air inhaled. In this experiment, a round balloon is utilized
to measure both the tidal volume and the lung capacity. Furthermore, students explored possible
factors impacting the vital capacity. Students established that body position is one factor that has an
impact on vital capacity. In this case, a standing position versus a seated position, provides more room
for the expansion of the chest cavity, thus allowing more air to be inhaled, resulting in increased lung
capacity.
Keywords: vertebrates, tidal volume, lungs, lung capacity, factors, impact, position, expansion
Introduction
In air breathing vertebrates, the lungs are two large organs of respiration located in the chest cavity
and responsible for adding oxygen to and removing carbon dioxide from the blood (Encyclopædia
Britannica, 1) The lungs expand and contract with each breath, and the amount of air moving in and
out of the lungs can vary. A diagram of the lungs is represented in the appendix Diagram, labeled as
Figure 1. To establish the amount of air inhaled, lung capacity needs to be established. Lung capacity
can be measured either using a spirometer (Encyclopædia Britannica, 1) or simply by using a round
balloon. The amount of air inhaled in a single breath is called the tidal volume. In the average adult,
tidal volume is about 0.5 liters. However, the lungs

Good Online Guitar Lessons For My Nephew
It was few months ago that I was searching for some good online guitar lessons for my nephew. I
think I must have scanned all possible avenues on the internet for that. If some had good textual
content, they didn t have video and audio, and if they had good video the tutor wouldn t be good and
so on. I thought that since internet is such a massive resource, I would definitely find some good
online guitar lessons for free for him. But to my disappointment I didn t find what I was looking for.
Each one had one or the other draw back. When you are looking forward to learning any thing, the
most important aspect that you should look for is a good instructor or an authentic guidance and the
next thing that you should consider is how well the course is structured or arranged, this is also very
important. So, unless the arrangement of the course is logical and in the right order, you will end up
learning it half baked or incomplete. Since my nephew was on a tight budget, he was looking for
something that was free, but I discovered it the hard way that nothing in this world is free and if at all
someone is offering anything for free, you have to compromise on the quality. So I decided to check
out the paid guitar lessons one by one. Since almost all of the courses offered free lessons for
sampling it was easy for me to choose the best amongst them. But the problem with most of the
courses was, they would only send each lesson one by one each day for us to check out, which

I Believe that Piracy Should Be Legal
1. I strongly believe that piracy should be legal. To begin with, the overseeing of private distribution is
regulated without set standards and guidelines, almost arbitrarily, and only exists because there exists
the assumption that piracy negatively impacts the people that put in work to produce the goods or
services in question. From the business standpoint, the driving stance behind those that are against
piracy is that piracy is equated to stealing. This is an unreasonable fallacy when it comes to online
piracy. It is understandable in the real world, using a car as an example, if you steal a car; the original
is no longer there. However, if you were to pirate a movie or a textbook, it is still available for
purchase from the creator. Parallels cannot be drawn between online piracy and the real world.
Additionally, many multiplayer computer games on the internet are free to play, and the video game
industry is thriving. The flagship example would be in the case of Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones
is the most pirated object that exists on the internet, and the creators of the show are proud to
announce that more than half of its audience watches the show illegally. Given this information, HBO
(the network that owns Games of Thrones) still made more revenue during the last quarter of the 2013
year than its biggest competitor (Netflix) and that s with Netflix having a larger customer pool and no
problems with piracy. Chances are, if one is going to pirate something, they

Leadership Philosophy Of Captain Byron Black
1. Leadership is a trait that is developed over time by skillfully executing the mission, learning from
past mistakes, and not being afraid to make the tough decisions. Once mission expertise is achieved,
the role shifts into ensuring those who follow can take over the operational responsibilities of the
mission. The expert previously described focuses on the people who are now filling the role he or she
once held; this expert now ensures that those following receive the training they need, are mentored in
their roles as a developing leader, and that their accomplishments are dutifully noted, even awarded
when needed. The question of how to be an effective leader is developed as various skills observed
from those who lead before. Whether it is the spelled out leadership philosophy of Captain Byron
Black, Sector Upper Mississippi River who clearly stated Take Care, Prepare, and Execute the
Mission , or the claim that following Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs by Commander Lynn Keopke,
Marine Safety Office Chicago, or the dos and don ts of personal interaction observed from Chief
Boatswains Mate Thomas Wilson, of Coast Guard Station Niagara, leadership characteristics are
developed and refined over time.

Foreaskin Research Paper
Foreskin Hygiene, Pediatric
The foreskin is the loose skin that covers the head of the penis (glans). Keeping the foreskin area clean
can help prevent infection and other conditions. If this area is not cleaned, a creamy substance called
smegma can collect under the foreskin and cause odor and irritation.
The foreskin of an infant or toddler does not need unique hygiene care. You should wash the penis the
same way as any other part of your child s body, making sure you rinse off any soap. Cleaning inside
the foreskin is not necessary for children that young.
RETRACTING THE FORESKIN
Usually, the foreskin will fully separate from the glans by age 5 years, but it may separate as early as
age 2 years or as late as puberty.
When the foreskin has separated from the glans, it can be pulled back (retracted) so that the glans can
be cleaned.

Forcing the foreskin to retract can injure it and cause problems.
Children should be allowed to retract the foreskin on their own when they are ready.
KEEPING THE FORESKIN AREA CLEAN
Before puberty, the foreskin area should be cleaned from time to time or as needed.
After puberty, it should be cleaned every day.
Until the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash over the foreskin with soap and water.
When the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash the area under the foreskin in the shower or bathtub:
1 Gently retract the foreskin to uncover the glans. Do not retract the foreskin farther back than is
comfortable. The distance the foreskin can retract varies from person to person.
2 Wash the glans with mild soap and water. Rinse the area thoroughly.
3 Dry the glans when you get out of the shower or bathtub.
4 Slide the foreskin back to its regular position.
Teach your child to perform these steps on his own when he is ready to start bathing himself.
During urination, a bit of foreskin should always be retracted to keep the glans

Two Standards Of Auditing
As accountants and auditors, we are held to, and must comply with, two standards of professional
conduct. Those standards are generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally
accepted auditing standards (GAAS). GAAP enforces the uniform standards for preparing and
presenting financial statements. GAAS governs the ways and means are used by public accountants
when conducting an audit. GAAS establishes the standards for field work and mandates that sufficient
evidence be found to provide reasonable assurance for issuing an audit opinion.
Liability to Clients
Please remember, as accountants we are held liable to our clients when we enter into contracts and are
hired to perform services. The liability we face can come from items such as breach of contract, fraud
and negligence. When an accountant enters into a contract, also known as an engagement, with a
client the terms of said engagement are specified. In a contract an accountant has explicit and implicit
duties. The accountant must perform all explicit duties in the contract. The implicit duties of the
contract are implied, and the accountant agrees to perform them in a proficient and professional
manner. If an accountant fails to perform the duties of the contract, he or she may be held in breach of
the contract.
An accountant may be found liable for two types of fraud. These two types are actual and
constructive. Actual fraud occurs when there is a deliberate omission or misrepresentation of a

moved to New York to start a fresh life. Even from a young age, Nast was an avid drawer who later in
life would make his greatest ambition into an occupation. He began his career as a political cartoon
artist for the Leslie s Illustrated in 1855 and then in 1859 continued his passion of illustrating at
Harper s Weekly. His work as an artist made a profound effect on many individuals and impacted how

The unity of the nation would become the concept that would have thought to be the ultimate cause of
the war. The compact of different states built a strong interconnected nation. By producing this
document, Nast hoped to encourage both men and women to stand for the reconstruction of the unison
between the North and the South. His desire was to rally the northern individuals to take arms for
President Lincoln and fight with their fellow brethren. Nast hoped to inspire people to seek their
desires of joining the Northern army in some valiant manner to create an abundant and powerful mass.
He certainly focused on the campaigning of women to take up the role of a nurse or leader in
fundraising on behalf of the union soldiers. Heroes and Heroines of the War reflected the heart of what
it means to be a contributor to society. The men of the North gathered together to bear arms with one
another and fight for the reconnection of the nation. The image revealed the bravery of the men and
the further need of assistance to win the battle. During this time period, women were considered to be
the nurturing and caring person in the household. The U.S. Sanitary Commission allowed women to
live up to their potential, but in a wider spectrum. Thomas Nast valued the compassion and the will
power that was portrayed in the Sanitary Commission. The document demonstrated the value of
women not just becoming a household concept, but spreading to a national level. People of this era

In this paper, use of Moringa oleifera seeds for purifying water is discussed. A study was carried out to
know the efficiency of Moringa oleifera seed suspension for removal of turbidity and hardness of
water. Turbid water sample of low turbidity (50 mg/L) was prepared in the laboratory using bentonite
clay, kaolin clay and black cotton soil. Moringa oleifera seed suspension was added as coagulant in
concentration of 20, 40, 60, and 80 mg/L. The hardness removal efficiency was checked on water
sample from tube well in the vicinity of Aurangabad city (India). The initial hardness of water sample
was 284 mg/L. The dosages of Moringa Oleifera seed suspension were 125, 250, 375 and 500 mg/L.
In addition to hardness, effect on pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids and salinity was
also studied. Moringa Oleifera seed suspension was found to be effective in treating the water.

Psychology Of The Piece Of Literature
Psychoanalysis is a type of criticism focused on the psychology of the piece of literature. Through the
analysis of the psychology behind a work, a conclusion can be made about it s meaning.
Psychoanalysis plays a huge role in the play Hamlet. In Hamlet, William Shakespeare utilizes id, ego,
superego, the oedipal complex, and depression to show how Old King Hamlet s murder and Gertrude
s marriage to Claudius causes Hamlet to eventually go mad.
Sigmund Freud coined the term Oedipal Complex to describe a phenomenon he observed where the
child has sexual feelings of desire for the parent of the opposite gender and has feelings of hostility
and jealously towards the parent of the same sex. The child feels as if they are in a competition with ...

the mother, the boy then sets out to become like the father. He imitates and partakes in dad type

This phenomenon is shown through the play Hamlet. Hamlet is extremely jealous of the attention that
his mother, Gertrude, has shown to both his father, Old King Hamlet, and his uncle and new step
father, Claudius. Hamlet says,
Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him
As if increase of appetite had grown

What Hamlet is saying in modern English, is that he does not want to remember that. His mother
would hang on to him (Old King Hamlet) and the more she was with him, the more she wanted of
him. But even though she could not get enough of Old King Hamlet when he was alive, she barely

One of the most important reasons as to why President Obama was reelected was that the way he
foresaw America s strategies and goals in the Middle East was totally different from the way his
predecessors did. It was right at that time that Iran and the U.S.A, along with the other 5 major
powers, decided to have a more serious set of negotiations, which took almost two years and
eventually ended last June with a mutual agreement between all sides.
After the striking of this deal, we encountered a plethora of arguments both in favor and against this
deal, in Iran and in the West, mainly in America. However, only a few people such as the New York
columnist, Thomas L. Friedman, perceived this deal as something more than a nuclear agreement. In
his article Pros and Cons of the nuclear deal with Iran to which I have provided an online link at the
end of this essay, Friedman brings us to the realization that this deal can potentially serve as a turning
point for America and its allies in their strategic approach to the Middle East, especially Iran. I can
think of many good reasons to go ahead with the nuclear deal with Iran, and I can think of just as
many reasons not to. So, if you re confused, let me see if I can confuse you even more. Although
Friedman starts off his analytical article with such ambiguous comment as to whether this deal is good
or not, but my understanding of his writing as a whole is that he

Examples Of Forgiveness In The Tempest
The Tempest was published in 1623 and is considered one of the last plays of William Shakespeare.
This play is accepted as virtuous as Prospero, the protagonist, rises above his own problems and dark
depths of disturbance and pain to attain a level of tranquility. His mind elevates to such levels that
human frailties do not worry him; it is this mental elevation of Prospero that forms the theme of
forgiveness of the play.
After the shipwreck, we find Alonso in a lot of stress and mood of despair reaching to the level of
insanity. Alonso had totally forgotten about the sins and had no guilt for the wrong committed by him,
Prospero was pleased with the profound success of what he had set out to do as revenge. When Ariel
recites the success of the plot with delight and said that if he had a human, his heart would have
melted seeing the anguish of the sufferers, on listening to him Prospero reaches his merciful decision
which it is obvious was firmly in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet among the three sinners regeneration is evident in really true terms in Alonso alone. His
redemption begins soon after the loss of his son in the shipwreck. It is a nerve racking anguish of a
father. The hazy reflection over his past sins is brought into sharp focus when Ariel, in the shape of a
harpy, reminds him of his crimes against Prospero and Miranda twelve years ago. It is here that his
repentance becomes both intense and genuine. This redemption and repentance is, however, not
visible in the other two sinners. Sebastian is a minor character, so Shakespeare passes lightly over his
psychological insights and elevation but Antonio is a major character, and his crime is worst of the
three, since he betrays a generously trusting brother. Though he returns Prospero his dukedom of
Milan, there is more than an ample hint that Antonio does so more out of fear of Prospero s potent
magic power rather than any genuine

Essay on Analysis of Blackberry Picking by Seamus Heaney
Analysis of Blackberry Picking by Seamus Heaney
Once the reader can passes up the surface meaning of the poem Blackberry Picking, by Seamus
Heaney, past the emotional switch from sheer joy to utter disappointment, past the childhood
memories, the underlying meaning can be quite disturbing. Hidden deep within the happy go lucky
rifts of childhood is a disturbing tale of greed and murder. Seamus Heaney, through clever diction,
ghastly imagery, misguided metaphors and abruptly changing forms, ingeniously tells the tale that is
understood and rarely spoken aloud. Seamus Heaney refers to Bluebeard at the end of stanza one.
Bluebeard, according to the footnote, is a character in a fairy tale who murders his wives. Why on
earth would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Realizing unconsciously seems like an oxymoron, but the speaker does not consciously realize the
horrors of his actions, while deep down understands what he has done. The speaker s extreme joy
from hording all the delicious blackberries turns into horror upon witnessing their fermentation (2nd
stanza). The speaker realizes that all good things must come to an end. He knows that, out of his
greed, he has murdered these blackberries, made then ferment and caused them to loose their
succulent appeal.
At first glance this poem seems a happy tale of childhood. These are memories that make the heart
smile. Images of heavy summer storms full of rain, alternating with bright, joyous sunshine, full
bushels of blackberries waiting to be picked; these are images most can relate with. The reader can
taste the bitter sweetness of the summer s first blackberry, feel the scratch of briars against their own
skin, sense the excitement and butterflies in their own stomachs as they race to gather all the
wondrous blackberries they can, followed by the anger and the disappointment when the blackberries
rot and ferment before the readers eyes. However, if the reader were to take the diction and imagery
quite literally, a somewhat different picture is aroused. ...a glossy purple clot... (line 3) describing the
first ripened blackberry, brings to mind the picture of a nasty blood clot in someone s veins, why
would Heaney compare blackberries to blood clots?

Machiavelli Essay
quot; The term Machiavellian refers to someone who is unscrupulous, cunning, cynical, and
unprincipled quot;(Goods 1998). Many scholars agree that this particular adjective would have
dismayed Niccolo Machiavelli, the man from whom the term is derived. In reality he has been
attributed as being one of the brightest lights of the Italian Renaissance through his works as not only
a writer, but also as an influential philosopher of history and political thought. His most famous work
The Prince has been misunderstood due to the motives discussed and the blatantly honest language
used. Many of his critics have condemned him for his pessimistic outlook of man as a whole and in
doing so try to negate the bulk of his work. Yet even after over 470 ... Show more content on

In fact, Machiavelli used various early diplomatic missions as the basis for a short guideline he sent to
the Florentine diplomat of Spain named Raffaelo Girolami. In this letter Machiavelli discussed not
only what he had done but also how he could have improved (Gilbert 1961, 209). This letter was
meant not only as advice for a particular situation but also as a learning aid to apply to all situations.
We see from this and other letters like it that Machiavelli not only learned the theory behind politics
but also continually refined his skill with each new challenge.
Machiavelli demonstrated a great knowledge and insight regarding politics through his writings but
more importantly he displayed a man who went through great effort to pay attention to details.
Nowhere else is this fact more evident than in the advice and instructions that he imparted to less
experienced government officials. His own advice states to ...write to those with whom you do
business so clearly that when they have a letter of yours they may think they are there in such detail it
describes the thing to them (Gilbert 1961, 123). Not only does this apply to his beliefs in
documentation, but also encourages them to pay close attention to details in order to supplement those
writings. This type of statement was far from uncommon, in a large quantity of his letters to less
experienced diplomats he advised them to go to the extreme of writing too much rather that too little

The Qur An

The Noble Qur an
The Qur an, also known as Kitah Allah (the book of God) is the religious text of Muslim Scripture. It
is the revelation of God that the Prophet Muhammad received by the archangel Gabriel and written in
Arabic language. It provides Muslims with guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper
human behaviors, and an egalitarian economic system. One can only truly understand the teachings of
the Qur an by exploring the life of the prophet Muhammad and grasping the important message and
tone that is held within the book.
Muhammad Abdullah, was the founder of the religion of Islam, and is considered by Muslims to be
the last Islamic prophet of God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His dedication to spread the message of God was phenomenal and he did not give up despite his harsh
treatment. Muhammad received some good news from the city of Yathrib. The city was in need of a
leader and pledged to obey and worship Allah alone and defend him to the death. Muhammad and his
loyal followers fled to Yathrib and left the city of Mecca. Yathrib was later renamed Medinat al Nabi,
the City of the Prophet, and is now known as Medina, the City. Muhammad died in 632, having
conquered all of Arabia for Islam.
He was loved and highly respected by man Muslims. His battle for peace never ended and his message
from God continues to spread present day.
The Qur an was written over a period of twenty three years beginning on December 22 609 CE, and
concluding in 632. Muslims claim that Muhammad spoke the whole Quran to his followers and many
of them memorized the verses word by word and later wrote it down. The Qur an was divided into 114
chapters, called surah(s). These chapters are arranged according to length, which vary from 3 to 286
verses. The chapters of the Qur an also have a title that comes from a word that is written within the
text. However, some titles are not linked to the subject matter in each surah. The titles have names
such as The Cow (Surah 2), Noah (Surah 71), and The Most High (Surah 87). Each Sura contains an
important message for the people of Islam. Most Muslims claims

The Birth Of Benjamin Franklin
In January of 1706 the future of America was changed forever with the birth of Benjamin Franklin.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts Ben was the son of Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger, Ben was the
youngest son of 17 children. Josiah was a soap maker and he wanted Benjamin to enter the clergy. Ben
went to South Grammar School where he excelled, he even skipped a grade. Unfortunately with such
a large family, Josiah was unable to afford the education that it took to become a clergyman. Ben only
had the luxury of formal schooling for just a few short years. Ben began working for his father and
was bored quickly. Ben had a strong interest for everything and he wanted to learn and know it all. He
tried other work options but none of which panned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also became a member of the Masons and was socially active. By 1733, he started the writings of
Poor Richard s Almanac. These almanacs were created under another alias, Richard Saunders. Many
of Franklin s famous quotes came from these almanacs. In the A few of these quotes are, Well done is
better than well said (Benjamin Franklin.PBS) or one of his most famous A friend in need is a friend
indeed! (Benjamin Franklin.PBS). In the midst of all adventures and endeavors he managed to find
time to marry his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Read and have a son that he named William. His
dedication to helping society continued with the development of the Library Company in 1731. The
average person could not afford books, not to mention they were hard to come by, so Ben managed to
use his resources to start the first ever subscription library. He became the clerk of the assembly of
Pennsylvania in 1736 and by 1737 he was the postmaster of Philadelphia ( Benjamin Franklin ). His
contributions did not stop with the library, he started the American Philosophical Society, The
Pennsylvania Hospital and the Philadelphia s Union Fire Company. From the development of the fire
company, he started the Philadelphia Contribution for Insurance Against Loss by Fire. Most of these
groups are still active today. The University of Pennsylvania was another one of Ben s

  • 2. salinger Essay LIFE AND PHILOSOPHY OF J.D. SALINGER J.D. Salinger is one of the most renowned writers of his time. J. D. Salinger is most known for his controversial in the Catcher in the Rye. Salinger is also known for many of his writings such as Franney and Zooey, Nine Stories, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters. The summer of 1930 he was voted The Most Popular Writer . Salinger is a beautifully deft, professional who gives us a chance to catch quick, half amused, half frightened glimpses of ourselves and our contemporaries, as he confronts us with his brilliant mirror images (Lomazoff 1). In the novel, Catcher in the Rye, there is a relationship between the main character, Holden Caulfield, and Salinger. J.D. Salinger s Catcher in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These influences, and also the fact that he was an unknown writer made him free from clichés and slogans that the rest of the world fell prey to. Salinger only seeked independence, growth, and stability in his life. Because Salinger was not a renowned writer, he did not have to worry about meeting expectations or censorship. Salinger would never try to censor himself, and felt that he should not have to. He frequently speaks of a phony society in which we all live in and in order to be accepted into the adult world, we must become a phony . Being a phony meaning, adjusting yourself to become what is socially acceptable even though it may not be what you desire to achieve. His work is a unique phenomenon, important as the voice of a silent generation in revolt against a phony world and in search of mystical escapes from a deteriorating society rather than causes promising political revolution or reform (French 4). Many of Salingers views for The Catcher in the Rye come from his intense hatred for hypocrisy. In the novel, Holden Caulfield feels that he must not submit to the phoniness of life, but attain an attitude of tolerance, understanding, and live which will make his life endurable. • 3. Persuasive Essay On Monuments And Memorials Monuments, are how we as people can relive the past and be able to put ourselves at that time period. For Americans the 9/11 memorial puts us in the gravity and it gives us the impact of what that disaster did but, it also shows a sense of beauty with how the water falls into the spot where once stood a tall and powerful building. Monuments, have the aura that has a sense of empathy and shows more emotion than words ever could, the Holocaust museum gives a solid reminder of what genocide really is. Monuments and memorials should be based on the size location and what it is actually standing for it should be for someone who has been influential or it should be something of war or tragedy. We as Americans don t pay attention to local cemeteries but when they see the Arlington cemetery or Vietnam memorial or even the WWII memorial people understand what death is really like and are more appreciative of those people who fought for the United States. Monuments and Memorials are not to remember those who fought for slavery, who have committed genocide, or any acts of treason and terrorism there should be no reason to make a statue that symbolizes something that a culture and a nation does not stand for anymore. Therefore, a Monument should consider the location, size, and why the monument is built along with the emotional aura that goes along with it. Monuments should be be put in a location where it is a hub or if the person or event was in fact there. The memorial was built ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mainstreaming Research Paper Does mainstreaming benefit dancers special Ed and normal Ed? I believe mainstreaming benefits both dancers in different ways. For special Ed students dance improves their social skills and creates a safe environment for theses students to release their emotion. For normal Ed students it helps them create life long friends and experience other people s point of view. Although all of these ideas are positive one of the down sides is providing a quality education for both students but the positive impacts are greater, it improves the students social skills, provides a safe place to release emotion, and creates life long friends. Throughout the novel Perfume by Patrick Suskind, there is an obvious use of literary devices used to describe the scents which Grenouille, the protagonist, smells, the way in which Grenouille smells aromas, as this is different to the average persons scent capacity, and the relevance of the aroma, as he emphasizes those smells which have an impact in the book through a more vivid and specific explanation. This will be a comparison of two passages for the novel, one from the beginning of Grenouille s life, and one from the end, in order to obtain a comparison in the description of scents through the novel. The diction used in the first text is not one of sophistication; as a child would be have speech that was not yet fully developed. This is shown through the first two sentences of the description on the people and laces affected by this smell, as it is a list of common people and places rather than a detailed explanation and specific location. The language in this extract continues to develop into more developed thought such as when Suskind explains there is no limitation to the scent. This explanation as to the limitation of the stench is used not only to compare the horrific smell of Paris, but also to emphasis the severity of this smell as even the King himself stank . This explanation as to the severity of the smell is seemingly juvenile compared with that in the second text, as the first text simply says what the smell is not limited to and creates a list of these things, while the second text goes on to describe the reactions to this smell, this is more developed as it shows the influence of the scent Grenouille has created, and the influence it creates on society. The first extract, although not as developed as the second, gradually becomes slightly more mature through the paragraph, symbolizing the growth of Grenouille through his introduction to Paris through the use of more ... My 7th grade year at CMS was full of concepts learned, memorable experiences, and personal growth. Some concepts i learned were . A question me and my group had was why do they travel in pairs? we never answered it. We also learned about mendel s work. Mendel s work showed that the dominant alleles don t come up as present when another is present. Each human has 23 chromosomes. And grasshoppers have 24 chromosomes which is just 12 pair. Some more questions my group had was do other insects have more chromosomes? And can more than half of a parent s chromosomes go to its offspring? • 10. The Breakdown Of The Basic Nature Of Chinese Poetry The breakdown of the basic nature of Chinese and English lyrical relations shows that they can be distinguished from one another through the use of metaphor to evoke the relationship between scene and feeling and vehicle and tenor respectively. The Western poetry s use of metaphor celebrates the use of human deception through a made up connection between that which is being talked about (tenor) and the one who talks about it (vehicle). On the other hand, the Chinese poetry s relies on the metaphor to come up with the context of scene and feeling which involves the appreciation of the dynamic lyrical resonance between nature and the human being. Moreover, while the Western practice engages in purposeful process of conveyance to formulate such explicit correspondence between tenor and vehicle, the Chinese tradition is set apart by the spontaneous encounter that evokes the implicit correspondence between scene and feeling. This paper therefore looks into the use of scene and feeling in Chinese poetry and tenor and vehicle in Western poetry in relation to the metaphor with an effort to highlight their differences and application. Scene and Feeling relationship The term scene basically portrays the physical context that is described in the poem. This physical context usually entails descriptions of rivers, mountains, vegetation, and animal life among others (Yanfang 186). The Stanford prison experiment was designed to find out whether the brutality reported among guards in American prisons was due to the sadistic personalities of the guards or had more to do with the prison environment (McLeod 1). Zimbardo was influenced by the Milgram experiment, which was a study of the power of the situation. He says that the Milgram experiment was focused on one on one social power. Parkhurst Mrs. Patricia Loudermilt Earth/Environmental Science Honors Online 9 September 2016 The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake And Jack London s Reportings The earthquake on April 18, 1906, in San Francisco is considered one of the most important earthquakes ever. Ultimately, its main significance comes from the knowledge gained from it, not just the size of it. It was the first large natural disaster captured with photographs. The geologists of the time didn t know what could have caused such a large earthquake as plate tectonics wasn t a very popular theory back then. Studying the movement and crust near the fault, Reid developed a theory called Elastic Rebound theory, which is still used to this day to explain earthquakes (The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake). Foreshocks began at approximately 5:12 AM California time. Then, not half a minute later, the main earthquake occurred. The epicenter wasn t actually in San Francisco, but it was close. Most of the damage in San Francisco was caused by fire which burned the town for three consecutive days and nights. In areas along the fault line, most of the damage was caused by shaking. After the disaster occurred, the public had to obtain information on this earthquake from reports and photographs, which had to be sent all across the country. In Antigone, written by Sophocles, he conveys various moral hierarchy stages through character traits, reasoning, and moral development within this character Antigone is portrayed as being morally straight and obedient to higher standards. She has a high moral standard. For example, she argues to Ismene, He s my brother and yours too; and whether you will or not, I ll stand by him. (Sophocles, ll 52 53). In this case, she says, I will stay with him, my brother; and my crime will be devotion. (Sophocles, ll 89 90). Basically Antigone feels that serving her brother is more important than obeying the law. This is showing that she places higher importance on moral ethics than human laws. In another instance, Antigone states, Haven t you heard? Don t you see hatred marches on love when friends, our own people, our family are treated as enemies? (Sophocles, ll 12 15). In short, she is saying that hatred is ruining her love for her brother in that Kreon is treating Polyneices like an enemy by not giving him a proper burial. Factors In Air-Breathing Vertebrates In air breathing vertebrates, the tidal volume of the lungs is the amount of air normally inhaled, while the lung capacity is the maximum amount of air inhaled. In this experiment, a round balloon is utilized to measure both the tidal volume and the lung capacity. Furthermore, students explored possible factors impacting the vital capacity. Students established that body position is one factor that has an impact on vital capacity. In this case, a standing position versus a seated position, provides more room for the expansion of the chest cavity, thus allowing more air to be inhaled, resulting in increased lung capacity. Keywords: vertebrates, tidal volume, lungs, lung capacity, factors, impact, position, expansion Introduction In air breathing vertebrates, the lungs are two large organs of respiration located in the chest cavity and responsible for adding oxygen to and removing carbon dioxide from the blood (Encyclopædia Britannica, 1) The lungs expand and contract with each breath, and the amount of air moving in and out of the lungs can vary. A diagram of the lungs is represented in the appendix Diagram, labeled as Figure 1. To establish the amount of air inhaled, lung capacity needs to be established. Lung capacity can be measured either using a spirometer (Encyclopædia Britannica, 1) or simply by using a round balloon. The amount of air inhaled in a single breath is called the tidal volume. To begin with, the overseeing of private distribution is regulated without set standards and guidelines, almost arbitrarily, and only exists because there exists the assumption that piracy negatively impacts the people that put in work to produce the goods or services in question. From the business standpoint, the driving stance behind those that are against piracy is that piracy is equated to stealing. This is an unreasonable fallacy when it comes to online piracy. It is understandable in the real world, using a car as an example, if you steal a car; the original is no longer there. However, if you were to pirate a movie or a textbook, it is still available for purchase from the creator. Parallels cannot be drawn between online piracy and the real world. Additionally, many multiplayer computer games on the internet are free to play, and the video game industry is thriving. The flagship example would be in the case of Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones is the most pirated object that exists on the internet, and the creators of the show are proud to announce that more than half of its audience watches the show illegally. Given this information, HBO (the network that owns Games of Thrones) still made more revenue during the last quarter of the 2013 year than its biggest competitor (Netflix) and that s with Netflix having a larger customer pool and no problems with piracy. Finally, we arrived at the campus it was dark now, it was nice I just didn t think much of it. We dove around for a bit and finally we stopped at Gunthers, an old hotel(appositive). It was a very eerie place, one of the creepiest places I have ever been too, it was like a ghost town. We got our room key and began walking to our room, it had dead animals, and creepy baby dolls behind glass displays, flickering lights, also zero other people in there. I did not like the feeling of the place at all. When we arrived at our room, a blast of frigid air hits me in the face. It had a mysterious smell too it, I did not like it at all so I went to bed immediately so I could get out of there as soon as possible. We woke up around eight in the morning. • 41. America s Perception Of The Middle East A Turning point in America s Perception of the Middle East The Iranian nuclear program has been one of the most challenging issues in the world for more than a decade. The struggle was mainly between Iran and six of the world s most powerful countries, which included China, the U.S.A, the U.K, France, Germany and Russia. What s really worth noting is that this controversy was not solely about Iran s willingness to have a nuclear program, which to its own merits was completely peaceful, but it was about who got to have more influence and control in the Middle East as a whole. Both sides of the conflict took measures to further their goals. Iran put whatever resources needed into developing its nuclear program, and the world s powers (P5+1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important reasons as to why President Obama was reelected was that the way he foresaw America s strategies and goals in the Middle East was totally different from the way his predecessors did. It was right at that time that Iran and the U.S.A, along with the other 5 major powers, decided to have a more serious set of negotiations, which took almost two years and eventually ended last June with a mutual agreement between all sides. After the striking of this deal, we encountered a plethora of arguments both in favor and against this deal, in Iran and in the West, mainly in America. However, only a few people such as the New York columnist, Thomas L. Friedman, perceived this deal as something more than a nuclear agreement. In his article Pros and Cons of the nuclear deal with Iran to which I have provided an online link at the end of this essay, Friedman brings us to the realization that this deal can potentially serve as a turning point for America and its allies in their strategic approach to the Middle East, especially Iran. I can think of many good reasons to go ahead with the nuclear deal with Iran, and I can think of just as many reasons not to. So, if you re confused, let me see if I can confuse you even more. Although Friedman starts off his analytical article with such ambiguous comment as to whether this deal is good or not, but my understanding of his writing as a whole is that he ... • 42. Examples Of Forgiveness In The Tempest The Tempest was published in 1623 and is considered one of the last plays of William Shakespeare. This play is accepted as virtuous as Prospero, the protagonist, rises above his own problems and dark depths of disturbance and pain to attain a level of tranquility. His mind elevates to such levels that human frailties do not worry him; it is this mental elevation of Prospero that forms the theme of forgiveness of the play. After the shipwreck, we find Alonso in a lot of stress and mood of despair reaching to the level of insanity. Alonso had totally forgotten about the sins and had no guilt for the wrong committed by him, Prospero was pleased with the profound success of what he had set out to do as revenge. When Ariel recites the success of the plot with delight and said that if he had a human, his heart would have melted seeing the anguish of the sufferers, on listening to him Prospero reaches his merciful decision which it is obvious was firmly in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet among the three sinners regeneration is evident in really true terms in Alonso alone. His redemption begins soon after the loss of his son in the shipwreck. It is a nerve racking anguish of a father. The hazy reflection over his past sins is brought into sharp focus when Ariel, in the shape of a harpy, reminds him of his crimes against Prospero and Miranda twelve years ago. It is here that his repentance becomes both intense and genuine. This redemption and repentance is, however, not visible in the other two sinners. Sebastian is a minor character, so Shakespeare passes lightly over his psychological insights and elevation but Antonio is a major character, and his crime is worst of the three, since he betrays a generously trusting brother. Though he returns Prospero his dukedom of Milan, there is more than an ample hint that Antonio does so more out of fear of Prospero s potent magic power rather than any genuine ... Essay on Analysis of Blackberry Picking by Seamus Heaney Analysis of Blackberry Picking by Seamus Heaney Once the reader can passes up the surface meaning of the poem Blackberry Picking, by Seamus Heaney, past the emotional switch from sheer joy to utter disappointment, past the childhood memories, the underlying meaning can be quite disturbing. Hidden deep within the happy go lucky rifts of childhood is a disturbing tale of greed and murder. Seamus Heaney, through clever diction, ghastly imagery, misguided metaphors and abruptly changing forms, ingeniously tells the tale that is understood and rarely spoken aloud. Seamus Heaney refers to Bluebeard at the end of stanza one. Bluebeard, according to the footnote, is a character in a fairy tale who murders his wives. Why on earth would ... Realizing unconsciously seems like an oxymoron, but the speaker does not consciously realize the horrors of his actions, while deep down understands what he has done. The speaker s extreme joy from hording all the delicious blackberries turns into horror upon witnessing their fermentation (2nd stanza). The speaker realizes that all good things must come to an end. He knows that, out of his greed, he has murdered these blackberries, made then ferment and caused them to loose their succulent appeal. At first glance this poem seems a happy tale of childhood. These are memories that make the heart smile. Images of heavy summer storms full of rain, alternating with bright, joyous sunshine, full bushels of blackberries waiting to be picked; these are images most can relate with. The reader can taste the bitter sweetness of the summer s first blackberry, feel the scratch of briars against their own skin, sense the excitement and butterflies in their own stomachs as they race to gather all the wondrous blackberries they can, followed by the anger and the disappointment when the blackberries rot and ferment before the readers eyes. However, if the reader were to take the diction and imagery quite literally, a somewhat different picture is aroused. ...a glossy purple clot... • 44. Machiavelli Essay quot; The term Machiavellian refers to someone who is unscrupulous, cunning, cynical, and unprincipled quot;(Goods 1998). Many scholars agree that this particular adjective would have dismayed Niccolo Machiavelli, the man from whom the term is derived. In reality he has been attributed as being one of the brightest lights of the Italian Renaissance through his works as not only a writer, but also as an influential philosopher of history and political thought. His most famous work The Prince has been misunderstood due to the motives discussed and the blatantly honest language used. Many of his critics have condemned him for his pessimistic outlook of man as a whole and in doing so try to negate the bulk of his work. Yet even after over 470 ... In fact, Machiavelli used various early diplomatic missions as the basis for a short guideline he sent to the Florentine diplomat of Spain named Raffaelo Girolami. In this letter Machiavelli discussed not only what he had done but also how he could have improved (Gilbert 1961, 209). This letter was meant not only as advice for a particular situation but also as a learning aid to apply to all situations. We see from this and other letters like it that Machiavelli not only learned the theory behind politics but also continually refined his skill with each new challenge. Machiavelli demonstrated a great knowledge and insight regarding politics through his writings but more importantly he displayed a man who went through great effort to pay attention to details. Nowhere else is this fact more evident than in the advice and instructions that he imparted to less experienced government officials. His own advice states to ...write to those with whom you do business so clearly that when they have a letter of yours they may think they are there in such detail it describes the thing to them (Gilbert 1961, 123). Not only does this apply to his beliefs in documentation, but also encourages them to pay close attention to details in order to supplement those writings. This type of statement was far from uncommon, in a large quantity of his letters to less experienced diplomats he advised them to go to the extreme of writing too much rather that too little (Gilbert ...
