Rough Draft Of A Personal Narrative Essay
Personal narrative draft When I was 3 years old, just 19 months after my sister was born, we went on a
trip to Florida. We had to wake up at about 3:00 a.m. ,because it takes us an hour to get are luggage in
the truck and to get everyone up and dressed. Our truck was a black Suburban. It took an hour and a
half to get the airport, an hour or two to get our 3 bags of luggage on the plane,to get breakfast,to get
coffee for my Mom, Dad, Nana Pat, and, Papa Daryl. Finally, we got a security check for all of us.
Then,we went to go find our gate where our plane was. Then we finally found our gate. We walked in
through the door that was open and we walked through a long tunnel like thing to get onto our plane.
When we were stepping onto our plane, I could see the path that the plane was on. There s a little
crack. A crack in between the plane and that little ramp thing that you walk on to get into the plane.
Our plane was Delta. After all of that we we re getting on the plane. We found our sets and sat in them
and buckled up we were ready for our flight. Were on a plane I was really excited about the trip, when
we took off it was going down the runway faster and faster then all of a the sudden the plane was
going up off the ground then we were in the sky floating forward. Then the plane was going fast
whenever I looked out the window everything on land and not in the air looked tiny it was an amazing
site from up above. It felt like we were flying with the birds.

The Outsiders Differences Between Book And Movie
The Outsiders
Books and movies have many similarities and differences, this is some similarities and differences in
The Outsiders. The similarities in the books are they all have the same lesson/theme. In the book and
movie the lesson or point is the split between gangs and how they also have the same problems on
both sides of town this makes the story more reliable than not to have the same theme. In the movie
and the book the themes are very apparent in the split between social groups which makes the story
have the same feeling as the book. In the movie in the book and movie Johnny is abused by his
parents. This is important because in the book Johnny is the shy character which is always in the lot or
not at home which forms the character. That is how some similarities in the book and the movie of the
great novel The Outsiders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the more apparent differences in the book and movie is that in the book Johnny is a very shy
and soft spoken yet on the movie johnny is more talkative. This affects the plot greatly by saying that
Johnny is beaten and is on the verge to kill yet in the movie the feeling of being abused is not here.
This leads me to believe that Johnny doesn t have the strength to kill Bob Sheldon. Another difference
is that in the book is that Johnny in the hospital was on a bed but in the movie Johnny is is on a high
tech bed which is built for his injury. This is important because in the movie the specialized bed gives
the feeling that he is in critical condition which makes the audience more emotional than the book
with Johnny in a common bed which does not give the feeling of a critical condition. That is some of
the many differences in the book and movie of The

Illegal Aliens Essay
Beware! America is being invaded by aliens! Not the little, green, Martian type you see in science
fiction movies, but the real thing. I m talking about the illegal type who come in every day and every
night, by land and by sea. Estimates have shown that as many as 500,000 illegal aliens make it across
the border every year (Morganthau 67). Illegal immigration causes many problems in the United
States, including economic problems, crime, education disputes, and overcrowding. All of these
problems were already damaging our country and illegal immigration has made them much, much
worse. Let me begin to explain the problem with a story. A woman named Xiomara T. escaped
Nicaragua in 1991 to escape the violence afflicting her country (Jost, ... Show more content on

If there were no jobs for illegal immigrants to obtain, there would be no reason for foreigners to come
here at the onset of it all. The sad part of it all is most illegal aliens have Wyatt 3 little or no job skills
at all, but since they work for the low wages, they are the ones who are hired (Harrison 35). Greedy
business people will do anything to save a dollar these days, even if it means committing a crime.
Many of the illegal immigrants who come to our country live off of our federal aid and receive free
money, when they don t even pay in taxes. This free money comes in the forms of welfare, Medicaid,
education costs, and other government funds. Our hard earned tax dollars are paying for immigrants
who don t even have the right to be here. The Texas head of the House Ways and Means committee,
Bill Archer, stated, quot;People should not expect to come to this country with their hands out to
receive benefits paid for by taxpaying Americans quot; (Jost ). He is absolutely right these people are
getting something for nothing while Americans are getting nothing for our tax dollars when we do
something to earn it. Immigrants pay much less in taxes than they receive in the form of social
benefits (Leone 8). In fact, the approximate national costs of immigration, including unemployment
funds for U.S. workers displaced by immigrants, cost America $42.5 billion more than they paid in
taxes in 1992 (Leone 8). If we didn t pay for these immigrants, maybe we wouldn t

Lydia Hadley Essay
Lydia Hadley (played by Elizabeth Banks)
Lydia Hadley is the mother of Wendy and Peter and she is married to George. She feels useless
because she realizes that the house is able to do everything better than she can. She is scared of the
African veldt that the children put in the nursery but doesn t want to take it away too soon because she
feels bad for them. Lydia is the typical mom and Elizabeth Banks just seems like the perfect mom for
any show. She has lots of experience playing the role of a mother and has children of her own so this
will be no problem for her.
George Hadley (played by Jason Sudeikis)
George is the dad of Wendy and Peter. He owns a very fancy home and gives his children whatever
they want. He does what he sees as best for his children but he ended up spoiling them rotten. He
doesn t punish his kids much but when he did they started to want to kill him. Although he tried to be
a good dad, he failed and it cost him his life. Jason Sudeikis is good for this part because he looks the
right age to have two ten year old children and he s a very good actor. He has many devoted fans so he

always just following his lead. Even though they had a fun life, it wasn t a healthy way to be living.
Emma Rayne Lyle and Oakes Fegley are good for the part because they look like siblings and both

makes sense since they play as their children in the movie. Emma s is a bit more blonde like Elizabeth

How MTV Maintains Its Dominance Essay
How MTV Maintains Its Dominance Music Television, a basic cable service known by its acronym
MTV, remains the dominant music video outlet utilizing effective marketing and competitive business
practices throughout its nineteen year history. The creation of the I Want My MTV marketing
campaign and use of the campaign throughout the 1980 s helped the cable outlet secure a substantial
subscriber base. MTV dealt with competition from cable mogul Ted Turner s Cable Music Channel by
creating a fighting brand, sister cable service VH 1, along with facing challenges by numerous other
music video programming services. Through exclusivity agreements with record labels for music
videos and limiting access to cable systems owned by MTV s ... Show more content on

Programming the new music video outlet in this manner made it as familiar as format commercial
radio, while presenting it using the medium of television, to its young target audience.
The name of the new music video cable service began as TV 1, a name that Bob Pittman felt fit the
youthful arrogance the channel embraced. With little support for the name from other WASEC
executives, an M representing music replaced the 1 in the name. The name eventually evolved into
MTV, Music Television.
With a name chosen for the new cable outlet, Fred Seibert, the Director of On Air Promotion, was
charged with commissioning a logo for MTV. Manhattan Design, the studio hired by Seibert,
eventually developed the logo still used by the channel today: a large block M with a small TV that
looks spray painted on. Many in Sales and Marketing at WASEC thought the logo left much to be
desired, with one executive asking Seibert if he thought it would endure as long as the CBS eye.
Almost two decades later, the MTV logo is arguably one of the most recognizable pop culture icons.
A video of the Buggle s Video Killed the Radio Star marked the launch of MTV at 12:01 AM August
1, 1981. Jack Banks notes in Monopoly Television: MTV s Quest to Control the Music that at the
start, the music video channel was available in 2.1 million homes and was not offered in either New
York City or Los Angeles. The absence of MTV from cable systems in these two

Traditional Drug Discovery Methods used trial and error approach substances were introduce to
animals or in vitro on the target without any prior knowledge of what would be the result. The effects
observed in these cases are examined the treatments for the disease. For example, if a drug gives an
effect to a pancreas cells, it can tested for insulin related disease like diabetes.
2. Rational Drug Discovery approach starts with a hypothesis, typically the modification of a present
known molecule giving a therapeutic effect. After selection of biologic, the next process is screening,
this involves the screening of many variants of the prospective therapy. It is a common practice to use:
High Throughput Screening Once a target has been selected, it is usually cloned and expressed to
generate thousands or millions of exact copies which are then incubated separately known as screens
and can be test on the target (Rollins et al,. 2014) A positive reaction are called hits and further
screened to determine if it act on particular target or other targets too. Hit more targets produce a toxic
effect in following trials in animals and humans. The best hits labeled as a lead compound, and can go
for further testing and the others are labeled as backups.
Other method uses extracts from a natural product like plant derived molecules, antimicrobials from
microorganisms, active compounds.
What to test in animal in vivo testing four commonly used species:

Character Analysis Of Little Miss Sunshine
Little Miss Sunshine is a comedy movie about a seven year old girl named Olive who aspires to win
the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. To help make her wish come true, her six member family takes a
road trip from Albuquerque to Redondo Beach, California. At the conclusion of the film, Olive and her
family learned to trust and support each other, no matter the situation. Olive is the youngest member
of her family who is entering middle childhood and adolescence just like her older brother Dwayne.
Olive is the type of girl that is cheerful, most of the time and not particularly the kind you would see
in a pageant. Olive s brother, Dwayne, could be described as emo . Although he claims that he hates
his family, he loves his sister, Olive. Their parents, Richard and Sheryl, and their Uncle Frank are in
the process of entering middle adulthood. Throughout most of the film, Richard is considered selfish
because he does not want his family to be seen as losers . Richard is obnoxious to his family, but he
still means well and wants them to succeed. Sheryl is the normal member of the family who does not
tolerate anyone s antics. Uncle Frank is very sarcastic and failed at his attempt to commit suicide. He
used to be a college professor, so he is considered the smart guy. The sixth member of Olive s family,
her grandpa, dies during the movie due to an overdose, but was entering the late adulthood stage. The
members of Olive s family share some similarities and differences, but since they all vary in age,
developmental concepts will be different in a way for each family member. Olive is seven which
means she is approaching adolescence while Dwayne is currently going through adolescence.
Typically, females ages eight to fourteen go through pubertal changes while males go through it
between ages nine to fifteen. The difference in age does not have to do with maturity as much as it
does the brain. Many biological changes take place during the adolescent years, such as: height,
hormones, and etc. Changes in height during adolescence are regulated by the complex of hormones.
Changes in hormones take place later and over a longer period of time in boys than girls. These
changes in hormones could affect how interactions with

Multicultural Counseling Critique Essay
Multicultural Counseling Critique: Counseling Utilization by Ethnic Minority College Students
Although the practice of counseling has evolved considerably since its inception, the concept of
multicultural competence remains novel. Engrossed in the lives of every clinician are underlined
biases and prejudices that act as filters in which every interaction with a clients is affected. Current
research on the topic of multicultural counseling has shown that although multicultural awareness is
on the rise there is still a remarkable gap in research regarding the use of counseling service and
outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities (Kerney,Draper, Baron, 2005). Insights such as these have
encouraged researchers to investigate multicultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another is the potential stigma associated with the use of mental health services. Closely associated
with this stigma is the belief in seeking help from religious leaders, such as pastors, and or priest. The
authors suggest that a combination of these factors coupled with a lack of clinician multicultural
awareness, serves as a powerful force keeping individuals of ethnic and racial backgrounds from
utilizing counseling services (Kerney,Draper, Baron, 2005). Due to these factors the researchers
hypothesized that ethnic and racial minority participation in counseling services will be lower than
that of their Caucasian counterparts. Furthermore they suggest that ethnic and racial minorities will
present for counseling services with increased severity of symptomatology. Lastly researchers propose
that Caucasians students will report more positive outcomes than minority students even when
severity and number of session are controlled.
In order to test their hypothesis researchers gathered students who attended colleges that are part of
the Research Consortium of Counseling and Psychological Services, a collection of state run
institutions focused on furthering the efforts of university research. One thousand one hundred and
sixty six Participants were selected based off the criteria that they had filled out the intake

Compare And Contrast Renaissance And Humanism
Renaissance, which means rebirth in French, might be defined as the awakening of art, literature,
architecture and learning in Europe between fourteenth and mid sixteenth centuries through the
contribution of classical sources. Despite the fact that it was originated in Italy, it started to spread
throughout Europe and contributed to the transition from the Medieval Age to the modern one.
Proponents of this movement emphatically connected themselves with the values of classical
antiquity, especially as seen in the recently rediscovered works of art of writing and history.
Additionally, they had a tendency to separate themselves from works written in the Middle Ages, a
historical period they looked upon rather negatively. According to them, the Middle Ages were set in
the center of two significantly profitable periods. In the same way, Humanism, which has an ideal of
placing human beings at the center of the universe rather than God, was the major intellectual
movement of the Renaissance and then it became the dominant sophisticated movement in Europe in
the 16th century. Supporters of this movement asserted that humanistic studies, comprising of the

the evolution of Renaissance humanism as a method of thinking. During this period, people actually
started to think differently and change how they thought about humanity, art, science and other fields.
Therefore, due to their spread throughout the Europe with the cultural aspects by affecting painting,
literature and science, Renaissance and Humanism had several influences on the people in terms of

arrangement that made our modern toilet (Keating 1). The valve and siphon is such a great importance
because it made the modern day toilet possible. Kay Keating points out that Thomas Crapper also held
nine patents towards the formation of the modern toilet (Keating 1). Many parts and pieces have been
attributed to the invention of the toilet along with many types of decorations that have been added to
the toilet throughout its time of being created as works of art. Writers from
Inventhelp.com state that Sir John Harrington invented a facility (toilet) that had a seat, a bowl, and a

Inventhelp.com also writes that Sir John Harrington invented a very primitive version of the water
closet which was water stored in a compartment used for washing away contaminants(Inventhelp.com

somewhat more of an art for decorating rather than a sanitary device since it was so expensive at the
time(Yadav 1). Decorations of the toilet show that the device itself was highly valued in time period

Changes Of An Ecosystem Can Destroy Environments
Changes to an ecosystem can destroy environments, kill animals, and possibly save some.If there is a
change to an ecosystem, it could be in many different ways. It could be a new predator shows up and
decides to live in that ecosystem completely changing the trophic cascade. Maybe helping to lower
down the population of an overpopulated species, or possibly cause one to be underpopulated. Many
things could happen, a predator could come in and eat the deer, causing more prarie grass and just
green land, Or possibly the forest is overpopulated in grass, and there is no open land where grass isn

Numerous possible outcomes from what could happen, either good or bad for the environment
depending on the change. We could have Animals die, or Animals live, Any of them could either
survive or die, depending on if their food source is eaten, or if it is populated again. The population of
many different species could change because of one Invasive species. This could cause many different
animals to either overpopulate or get their population rate going down. Both living and nonliving
organisms could get affected ways that could either help them or hurt them.In the video about the

Units 4 5 Career Guidance Interviews
Unit 4 and 5
Evaluate the purpose of different types of career guidance interviews
Evaluate methodologies to explore the career guidance and development needs of clients
Corney and Watts (1998) define information and advice as; providing an immediate response to the
needs of clients who present an enquiry or reveal a need that requires more than a straightforward
information response. Advice is usually limited to helping with the interpretation of information and
with meeting needs already clearly understood by the client...
Advice and information is therefore concerned with meeting client s presenting issues relating to
information.

This has meant that new approaches have to be made so that clients can access a type of interview at a
time and in a place to suit them. To meet individual needs this has meant me offering telephone
guidance or home visits to accommodate their requirements. I have also signposted them to online
services such as webinars about CV building and networking and useful clips as well as online chats
with prospective employers. I also offer events that may give them additional options and
opportunities. I have also had to discuss the timing of one to one support with clients, as some prefer
to have the interview in the early stages of resettlement to point them in the right direction, whereas
others like to carry out their own research and start to make plans and use the interview to reassure
them and challenge their options to get more out of it. This also means I can tailor my advice and
guidance to the career path they are considering.
Careers guidance interviews in general are evolving in different sectors, for example in Higher
Education they have moved from having hour long individual one to ones and evolved into ensuring
individuals have access to information and group work.
I am now going to look at five types of interview and approaches that can be taken for different
reasons;

Columbus Day Significance

ethnic groups in United States. I can never remember where Columbus is from. Now I know it is not

Columbus legacy is a controversial one, but until I listened to the podcast, I did not know how much
he meant to the Italian and Irish communities. I never thought Columbus being a Catholic would be of
use to anything besides appeasing Queen Isabella, It s interesting how the immigrants of the United
States embraced the legacy of Columbus and thought of him as a founding father of sorts.
In his journals, he mentions finding a land we now know as the eastern edge of the Bahamas. He not

What Is Poe s Name Of The Animals In The Black Cat
In the literature The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe. The narrator, mentions that in the next few days he
would die. He describes himself as a caring and loving man, who when was young was despised by
others for his fear of animals. He married a woman who had the same fear of animals, though she
invited many animals to live their home. There were birds, gold fish, a very well dog, rabbits, a tiny
monkey and a cat. The name of the cat is Pluto this was the cat s name was my favorite pet and

Portrayal of Women in the Media Essay
Portrayal of Women in the Media Gender is the psychological characteristics and social categories that
are created by human culture. Doing gender is the concept that humans express their gender when they
interact with one another. Messages about how a male or female is supposed to act come from many
different places. Schools, parents, and friends can influence a person. Another major factor that
influences millions of impressionable females and males is television. Not only does the television
teach each sex how to act, it also shows how one sex should expect the other sex to act. In the current
television broadcasting, stereotypical behavior goes from programming for the very small to adult

In this show as well, the male is in charge of the activity. These two shows are only a small insight

girls are seen playing games like ‘Pretty, Pretty, Princess and ‘Barbie . Viewers rarely see girls in the
sandbox digging holes with construction toys such as dump trucks and packos. Also, women are more
likely to be in some sort of serious romantic relationship or married. On the other hand the romantic
status of most male characters is not known. These virtuous images not only give little girls the wrong

El Greco Essay
El Greco The Agony In the Garden, a mannerist style of art by EL Greco, proclaims a sense of
spiritual power of religious faith which accomplishes El Greco s aim to move his audience. El Greco
was born on the island of Crete and lived from 1541 to 1614. He represented the most characteristic
figure of Spanish Mannerism. El Greco was influenced by and became acquainted with the art of
Titian and Jacopo Bassano in Venice where he studied in 1566. In addition to visiting Italy, El Greco
made his way to Rome,
Parma and probably Florence. On his travels he became more familiar with the work of
Parmigianino and the work of Correggio. In El Greco s use of form can be seen
Florentine Mannerism. Venetian Mannerism can be seen in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Biblical occurrence illustrated is standardized on two levels, one above the other. The group of the
three sleeping apostles fill the lower plane. We find comparable groups of apostles in pictures by
Giovanni Bellini. El Greco returns to Quattrocento etiquette, especially in the manner in which the
sleeping gray haired apostle bends his arm around his head.
Of the abundant versions of this painting in the artist s own hand there is a smaller copy in the
Museum at Lille, and other variants are to be found in the Episcopal palace in the Museum of Fine
Arts in Buenos Aires. The variant most similarly related to the painting in Budapest is the larger scale
version in the Church of Santa Maria at Andujar which displays other works of mannerist art.
The mannerist style thrived at the same time as High Renaissance and Baroque art. Mannerism, like
many other names attached to so many other periods of art, was a name conceived in disdain and
impudence. Maniera, meaning maner, was correlated with the artist who worked in the manner of
someone else. Like an imitator who adapted and sometimes perfected the forms of another. However,
there are characteristics of the
Mannerist style which disconnected it from the period of the High Renaissance as well as the
distinguishing it from the emerging Baroque. A number of crucial artist of
Mannerism have displayed meaningful works. Only in the last ninety years has
Mannerism come to be

Chapter 25 the Grapes of Wrath
THE SPRING IS BEAUTIFUL in California. Valleys in which the fruit blossoms are fragrant pink
and white waters in a shallow sea. Then the first tendrils of the grapes swelling from the old gnarled
vines, cascade down to cover the trunks. The full green hills are round and soft as breasts. And on the
level vegetable lands are the mile long rows of pale green lettuce and the spindly little cauliflowers,
the gray green unearthly artichoke plants.
And then the leaves break out on the trees, and the petals drop from the fruit trees and carpet the earth
with pink and white. The centers of the blossoms swell and grow and color: cherries and apples,
peaches and pears, figs which close the flower in the fruit. All California ... Show more content on

The meat turns dark and the crop shrivels on the ground.
And the pears grow yellow and soft. Five dollars a ton. Five dollars for forty fiftypound boxes; trees
pruned and sprayed, orchards cultivated pick the fruit, put it in boxes, load the trucks, deliver the fruit
to the cannery forty boxes for five dollars. We can t do it. And the yellow fruit falls heavily to the
ground and splashes on the ground.
The yellowjackets dig into the soft meat, and there is a smell of ferment and rot.
Then the grapes we can t make good wine. People can t buy good wine. Rip the grapes from the vines,
good grapes, rotten grapes, wasp stung grapes. Press stems, press dirt and rot.
But there s mildew and formic acid in the vats.

The smell from the ferment is not the rich odor of wine, but the smell of decay and chemicals. Oh,

The little farmers watched debt creep up on them like the tide. They sprayed the trees and sold no

No Name Woman, By Maxine Hong Kingston
In No Name Woman , Maxine Hong Kingston discusses a story her mother shared with her. It is about
Kingston s aunt who, while her husband was in America, became pregnant and committed suicide the
day of her illegitimate child s birth. Also included in the story is a raid, undertaken by neighbors and
other villagers, on the aunt s family and home. In order to fully understand the story, it is necessary to
know the historical context. Taking place in 1920s China, the instability, importance of the family, and
attitude towards women impact the final essay. Without taking those three things into account, one
cannot properly analyze Kingston s work.
Before 1924, when the incident takes place, China suffered numerous hardships. There was, for
example, the first Sino Japanese War, which was followed by the Boxer Rebellion only a few years
later. Then, in the span of only a couple of years, the Manchu Restoration and the May Fourth
Movement begin and end. Both of these are attempts at creating a new form of government and are
two of several examples depicting the instability of that time. In addition to that was the rise of the
Communist Party and the constant political infighting within the Republic of China. Overall, ... Show

Confucian beliefs placed women as subservient to men overall. They were meant to obey others in
their family unit, especially their husband, and this belief was only strengthened with the rise of neo
Confucianism. Because the villagers held these ideals, and Kingston s aunt was married, the reaction
to her infidelity was harsh. It also explains why everyone in the family treated the story of Kingston s
aunt as inherently shameful. Kingston s mother, for instance, insisted that nobody else should know
what happened for fear of judgment. The attitude towards women is also why Kingston assumes that
her aunt s child was a girl if the child were a boy, there would have been some hope of

The Civil War, By Harriet Beecher Stowe
Albert Einstein once said, You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better
than anyone else. Honestly, what quote represents General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard better
than that? It could be said that Beauregard, with his quick wit and tremendous skill, was destined to
play a vital role in the Civil War. Decades of tension and rivalry between the North and the South led
to the five year war between the states, more commonly known as the Civil War. No one knows for
certain what the true cause for war was; some people claim it was slavery; some people insist it was
state s rights. The main issues included the South s dwindling political power, state s rights, expansion
of slavery into the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The five year war resulted in over 360,000 Union deaths and over 260,000 Confederate deaths, with
gruesome and bloody skirmishes and battles such as the Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest single day of
the war, and the Battle of Gettysburg, the bloodiest battle of the war . The war ended in a Union
victory after General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox
Courthouse on April 9, 1865 (historynet). But how did General Beauregard affect the Civil War? To
summarize, Beauregard played a key role in the Battle of Fort Sumter, the First Battle of Bull Run,
and was an excellent militant. Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard was born on May 28, 1818, into a
well respected Creole family. He was raised on a sugarcane plantation in St. Bernard Parish,
Louisiana, which is just outside of New Orleans. Beauregard attended school in New York City, but in
1834 he was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was popular, with
nicknames such as Little Creole and Little Napoleon, and finished second in his class when he
graduated in 1863 (history). Beauregard married Marie Antoinette Laure Villeré in 1841, and they had
three children, Rene, Henri, and Laure before she died in childbirth on March 21, 1850 (findagrave).

Literary Analysis Of Sylvia Plath s Daddy
Sylvia Plath, an incredibly renowned poet and novelist, is well known for her macabre, troubling, yet
amusing works of literature. One of the hallmarks of this is her poem Daddy. In this poem, the speaker
figuratively describes her relationship with her father through many caustic, abrasive metaphors. The
narrator emphasizes her resentment towards her father in this poem, however, the speaker is unable to
conceal the fact that she loves him as well. As such, this poem is filled with raw emotional turmoil and
no clear ideological champion by the end.
One of the most striking things about this poem is the continuous metaphor Plath uses comparing the
speaker s father to a Nazi and the speaker to a Jew. This simile conveys to the reader the degree to
which the narrator has suffered at the hands of her father. The narrator indicates that she is not actually
Jewish in her use of simile here: she states that she is like a Jew (34), which implies that the speaker is
distancing herself from actual Jews. However, the speaker says she may well be a Jew (35) because
her father s words served as an engine Chuffing [her] off like a Jew [...] to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen
(33). In choosing to describe her relationship with her father as analogous to the holocaust one of the
most horrific, cruel, and inhumane events in human history the narrator conveys the feeling of being
tortured by her father. The narrator paints herself as a helpless victim by saying that she related to
people on trains to concentration camps. Although this is a gross exaggeration of the speaker s
circumstances, her use of this metaphor shows the undeniably intense pain the speaker experienced at
the hands of her father.
In addition to the animosity the speaker clearly has towards her father, another component
contributing to this disdain is fear of her father. In the first stanza, the narrator describes her father as a
black shoe/ In which [she has] lived like a foot/ For thirty years, poor and white,/ Barely daring to
breathe or Achoo (2 5). This is a telling metaphor because in the narrator describing herself as the poor
white foot in a black shoe, it demonstrates that she is unable to escape a constraint which should not
be forced

the character of Antony is one of three who rule Rome after the assassination of Julius Caedar. But
Antony s popularity is shortlived, as Shakespeare s audience discovers when Act I opens in
Alexandria, Egypt, where Antony languishes under the spell of Cleopatra s incomparable beauty and
charm. She spends her every wile and witchery on binding his heart to hers and the world and Rome

Cleopatra has not yet captured the whole of his soul, and Antony returning back to Rome shows that
there is going to be a big twist in the story which will create a tragedy.
Antony is a seasoned leader a leader with charisma, experience and resolve he enjoys the admiration
of his soldiers and the Roman citizens, as we find out from the conversation between Lepidus and
Caesar the other two leaders of Rome. They show the reader how Antony was before he met Cleopatra
Thou didst drink the stale of horses and the gilded puddle this suggests that Antony used to drink
horses urine and filthy water to keep him going in his battle which shows his dedication to the country.
However, as Caesar suggests that Antony has changed This is the news: he fishes, drinks, and wastes
the lamp of night in revel which suggests that Antony is corrupt and he wastes his nights wheras he
should be supporting his country and being more responsible. This might prepare the audience for
tragedy as Antony s behaviour may cause conflict between Caesar and Antony as Caesar praises
Antony for how he used to be and makes him angry seeing Antony being irresponsible now and as
readers it makes us think that the attitude of Caesar towards Antony may cause conflict in the
upcoming or rather there could be conflict between Antony and Caesar involving Cleopatra.
To conclude there are many event in Act 1 which prepares the reader for a tragedy but it cannot be
made clear as to what the tragedy may be.

Stanford University psych professor, Walter Mischel, laid down the foundation for this concept
through the marshmallow test. The test went along like this, the subjects were four year old pre
schoolers who were given two options: ring the bell and get one marshmallow immediately or wait
fifteen minutes and earn two. Most of the children tried to wait fifteen minutes but broke around
various times. In the end, around thirty percent were able to delay gratification for fifteen minutes to
be rewarded a second marshmallow. (Delayed Gratification. 2016). With these results in mind,
Mischel was curious about the development of these children for years to come. Would the differences
in their adolescent willpower prevail into their adult lives? And if so, how would it influence their
outcome? Well surprisingly enough, these differences showed drastic results forty years later. In 2010,
Mischel and his colleagues followed up with his subjects. The high delay children, a term coined by
Mischel, showed huge positive growth over time. Children who were best able to delay gratification
subsequently did better in school... had fewer behavioral problems than the children who could only
resist eating the cookie for a few minutes... [and] ended up on average with SAT scores that were 210
points higher. Furthermore, in their adult life, high delay children had a high rate of completing
college and went on to earn higher incomes. (Lickerman.

Globalization Has Created A Tremendous Impact On The Lives...
Within the past decades, globalization has created a tremendous impact on the lives of women and
men globally. Globalization denotes the process in which economic, financial, and technical
transactions between different countries and communities throughout the world are becoming
increasingly interconnected (Pearson). Yet in the beginning of the millennium, contemporary
globalization has additionally taken more of a human form, as it has integrated and interconnected a

The gendered relations have consequently shaped the cultural and societal norms as result of the
economic forms of globalization. As women are entering the work force, they have become more
autonomous and are able to live [how they] want (Sengupta). What s more, the role of women in the
family is changing because they have reduced domestic expectations. Many women are deferring
marriages, while they make money, obtain higher levels of education, and live lives that most of their
mothers could not have dreamed of. Additionally, in a highly communicative globalized world, there
are new models of attainment with seeing women in roles of leadership, whether it is politically or
economically, women may feel empowered to exercise their desire for high powers of leadership and
to exercise femininity in such an emancipative way. This could result in increased political
representation and participation in feminist movements by woman. On the other hand, as a result of
the women being more financially independent, the transformation of the family is deviating from the
patriarchal norm. This is visible as the men s role as an illusion breadwinner is being destroyed, as
there is less pressure for them to be the only source of income for families. Furthermore, with both

How Did Slavery Occur In Colonial America
Slavery s rise as the dominant force of labor in the Virginia colonies allowed for racism to spread and
therefore justified the use of Africans for slave labor. Racism came as a direct result of slavery and
allowed the divide between the Africans and Europeans to intensify. The profit that came from slavery
encouraged many powerful landowners to switch to slavery, and eventually leave indentured servitude
behind. In the colonies, slavery became vital to the new colonial society for economic reasons, and
brought on a birth of racism that distinguished Africans and Europeans. Many instances describe the
level of equality between all races as many settlers of different descents arrived in Jamestown; and as
diversity began to build up slowly. For example, The colony even began to look a little like the

Our Lady of the Liberation There are many names for Our Lady of Guadalupe like the Virgin of

followers, who were mostly indigenous people, in the Mexican Revolution in 1910 1920 using her as
a symbol for mother nature and freedom (Livingstone). Overall Tonantzin gave many of the people
hope that they could succeed and fight for their freedoms throughout Mexican and Latino

Cameron s Speech On The 2011 Riots
In his speech on the riots, Cameron discounted social conditions such as poverty and unemployment
as reasons for the 2011 riots, and focussed instead on criminality and morality (Andrews, G. 2014).
This essay will compare and contrast this conservative view of the riots with the radical view. A riot is
an occasion involving violence directed at property, persons or authority. The current understanding of
the term riot dates back to the fourteenth century, when it began to suggest violence and disorder
among the population. By the eighteenth century violence and disorder was on the rise in England,
which resulted in Parliament passing the Riot Act of 1715. Conservatism is characterised for their
resistant to change, although when it is necessary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discussion on BBC News night highlighted the differences in the conservative and radical views
on the riots. Ian Kinsella described his concern at how the rioters would be controlled going forward.
He described how he pleaded with the rioters to stop, however was chased off and told You re insured
mate, you ll be ok! . Opposite Ian Kinsella was Cody Lachey, a proud mancunion who admitted to
dressing inconspicuously to partake in the looting. Cody Lachey had a change of heart and although
he fully supported the looters, he decided against looting. Kirsty the BBC news reporter pointed out
that Cody Lachey had served in the military overseas in Afghanistan and Bosnia, he also worked as a
security guard for large retailers, she questioned why he doesn t turn the looters in? Cody s response
Because I understand...We live in an impoverished society where people do what they have to do to
feed their families, and that s the life we re living. (The Open University, 2017). Cody s response is
one shared with a high percentage of the rioters, they blamed the crushing effect of poverty, parents
who have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet, parents who have no time for their children,
no childcare, increase intuition fees, closure of youth services and scrapping of education maintenance
and lack of respect from the police. It is believed 59% of those arrested for rioting were unemployed
and conceded their involvement in looting was simply down to opportunism, saying that a perceived
suspension of normal rules presented them with the opportunity to acquire goods and luxury items
they could not ordinarily afford. (Rusbridger, A. 2017). Martin Luther King once defined rioting as the
language of the unheard. This was a radical s view expressed by a youth worker shortly after the 2011

Search For Identity In Surfacing, By Margaret Atwood
In this situation the question of an authentic Canadian voice has troubled many Canadian writers. At
the same time the regional consciousness in Canada began to give rise to a national consciousness
which further broadened into an international or universal consciousness. This awakened conscience
led to the writers showing a preoccupation with quest themes, search for identity and self definition
which turned out to be search for inner space. This phenomenon appears in the fiction of Margaret
Atwood.
Conversely, in the canon of postcolonial writers, Atwood is a troublesome figure. Despite her notable
search for an understanding of Canada that is not first mediated by an English or American aesthetic.
Atwood s novels are examined in a cultural context in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The major theme of the novel Search for identity , like national identity, identity of selfhood and
identity of womanhood, for the protagonist has become difficult because of her role as a victim of
colonial forces. She has been colonized by men in the patriarchal society in which she grew up.
Initially, the narrator of the story returns to the undeveloped island that she grew up on to search for
her missing father in that process she unmasks the inconsistencies in both her personal life and her
patriarchal society. The unnamed narrator of Surfacing comes back to her home in Northern Quebec
after a gap of nine years in search of her father, who is reported missing mysteriously. The protagonist
is working as a commercial artist. The reason for the deliberate separation from her parents is that the
narrator was in love with her teacher, who exploited her innocence. Against her wishes, he got the
pregnancy terminated. Unable to cope with this painful reality she gave her parents a different version.
She wrote a postcard and informed them that she was married, had a child and lost him to the husband
whom she

The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay
By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and
Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid growth. In all this great expansion of aqueducts and
dams, concerned citizens like John Muir proclaimed that more must be done to protect the majesty and
beauty of California before it is all gone. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau, which
published Walden, a landmark book on the topic of environmentalism, and his years exploring and
camping in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, Muir began to gather like minded scientists and thinkers in
San Francisco. Efforts by Muir and the formation of his Sierra Club in the 1890s eventually met with
success in convincing the federal government to protect the Yosemite Valley from logging and grazing
interests, preserving the area into a newly formed forest reserve concept of a national park (Fox, p.
106). Muir had less success in preserving the sister valley of Hetch Hetchy, which eventually was
dammed and flooded to use as a reservoir for the inhabitants of San Francisco.
Up till the 1950s, environmental activism was fractured among diverse groups with diverse causes:
water quality, overpopulation, air quality, clean beaches, toxic wastes, pesticides, endangered wildlife.
Yet, in 1950, the Sierra Club, led by native Californian David Bower, eventually secured its national
reputation in the battle against another massive dam proposal, this time the Echo Park Dam project in
Utah.

We walked in through the door that was open and we walked through a long tunnel like thing to get onto our plane. When we were stepping onto our plane, I could see the path that the plane was on. There s a little crack. A crack in between the plane and that little ramp thing that you walk on to get into the plane. Our plane was Delta. After all of that we we re getting on the plane. Illegal immigration causes many problems in the United States, including economic problems, crime, education disputes, and overcrowding. Greedy business people will do anything to save a dollar these days, even if it means committing a crime. Many of the illegal immigrants who come to our country live off of our federal aid and receive free money, when they don t even pay in taxes. This free money comes in the forms of welfare, Medicaid, education costs, and other government funds. Our hard earned tax dollars are paying for immigrants who don t even have the right to be here. The Texas head of the House Ways and Means committee, Bill Archer, stated, quot;People should not expect to come to this country with their hands out to receive benefits paid for by taxpaying Americans quot; (Jost ). He is absolutely right these people are getting something for nothing while Americans are getting nothing for our tax dollars when we do something to earn it. Immigrants pay much less in taxes than they receive in the form of social benefits (Leone 8). In fact, the approximate national costs of immigration, including unemployment funds for U.S. workers displaced by immigrants, cost America $42.5 billion more than they paid in taxes in 1992 (Leone 8). • 10. Character Analysis Of Little Miss Sunshine Little Miss Sunshine is a comedy movie about a seven year old girl named Olive who aspires to win the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. To help make her wish come true, her six member family takes a road trip from Albuquerque to Redondo Beach, California. At the conclusion of the film, Olive and her family learned to trust and support each other, no matter the situation. Olive is the youngest member of her family who is entering middle childhood and adolescence just like her older brother Dwayne. Olive is the type of girl that is cheerful, most of the time and not particularly the kind you would see in a pageant. Olive s brother, Dwayne, could be described as emo . Although he claims that he hates his family, he loves his sister, Olive. Their parents, Richard and Sheryl, and their Uncle Frank are in the process of entering middle adulthood. Throughout most of the film, Richard is considered selfish because he does not want his family to be seen as losers . Richard is obnoxious to his family, but he still means well and wants them to succeed. Sheryl is the normal member of the family who does not tolerate anyone s antics. Uncle Frank is very sarcastic and failed at his attempt to commit suicide. He used to be a college professor, so he is considered the smart guy. The sixth member of Olive s family, her grandpa, dies during the movie due to an overdose, but was entering the late adulthood stage. Due to these factors the researchers hypothesized that ethnic and racial minority participation in counseling services will be lower than that of their Caucasian counterparts. • 25. Literary Analysis Of Sylvia Plath s Daddy Sylvia Plath, an incredibly renowned poet and novelist, is well known for her macabre, troubling, yet amusing works of literature. One of the hallmarks of this is her poem Daddy. In this poem, the speaker figuratively describes her relationship with her father through many caustic, abrasive metaphors. The narrator emphasizes her resentment towards her father in this poem, however, the speaker is unable to conceal the fact that she loves him as well. As such, this poem is filled with raw emotional turmoil and no clear ideological champion by the end. One of the most striking things about this poem is the continuous metaphor Plath uses comparing the speaker s father to a Nazi and the speaker to a Jew. This simile conveys to the reader the degree to which the narrator has suffered at the hands of her father. The narrator indicates that she is not actually Jewish in her use of simile here: she states that she is like a Jew (34), which implies that the speaker is distancing herself from actual Jews. However, the speaker says she may well be a Jew (35) because her father s words served as an engine Chuffing [her] off like a Jew [...] to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen (33). In choosing to describe her relationship with her father as analogous to the holocaust one of the most horrific, cruel, and inhumane events in human history the narrator conveys the feeling of being tortured by her father. The narrator paints herself as a helpless victim by saying that she related to people on trains to concentration camps. Although this is a gross exaggeration of the speaker s circumstances, her use of this metaphor shows the undeniably intense pain the speaker experienced at the hands of her father. In addition to the animosity the speaker clearly has towards her father, another component contributing to this disdain is fear of her father. In the first stanza, the narrator describes her father as a black shoe/ In which [she has] lived like a foot/ For thirty years, poor and white,/ Barely daring to breathe or Achoo (2 5). This is a telling metaphor because in the narrator describing herself as the poor white foot in a black shoe, it demonstrates that she is unable to escape a constraint which should not be forced ... The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid growth.
