Gangs and Violence in The Prison System Essay
Gangs and Violence in the Prison System
Introduction
Gang violence is nationwide and is one of the most prominent problems in the prison system today.
Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and
throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise
about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a
large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs
and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future.
History
Prisons began to bulge with gang members when states enacted tougher laws for gang related crime in
the mid to late ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to find a solution for the problem the prison system took and is still taking steps such as
classifying the gang members and other violent inmates as security threat groups (STG s). Both prison
officials and law enforcement agencies refer to gangs as STG s rather than gangs in order to take away
from the assumptions and exposure that the word gang gets. There are several ways of becoming
classified as a security threat group, such as self admission, known gang tattoos, confiscation of STG
paraphernalia, or information provided by an informant acknowledging the inmate as a gang member.
All known security threat groups are kept in single inmate cells known as administration segregation
to separate them from the rest of the inmate population, in hopes of reducing the amount of
communication between gang members and the amount violence. One problem with administration
segregation is a the amount of available space; the number of inmates classified as a security threat
group greatly exceeds the space available thus causing many prisons to keep STG s in the general
inmate population and putting only leaders of the gangs in administration segregation. The simple
decision of allowing the security threat groups to remain in the general inmate population increases
the probability of violence within the prison tremendously. The prisons have also implemented a

Miso Park Symbolism
Miso Park
It s my symbol and I ll cry if I want to
If enough writers use a given object or situation in enough works, we start to recognize and
understand the range of possible meanings (Foster 242)
 Some symbols are very easy to detect (common)
 Example: rain=sadness or fire=hope
In a situation where we encounter purely private symbols, there are some things we can fall back on
(Foster 245)
 Some symbols are harder to detect
 They are private , meaning that you need a deeper analysis to uncover what the symbol represents
Use what you know (Foster 248)
 What you learn from one book will also apply to future books as well
 The only thing that can prepare you to read a certain book is to read the book
Every work teaches us how to read it as we go along (Foster 248)
 This quote explains how in a book, context helps a lot in reading unfamiliar forms of literature.
 For example, one page may help with the following pages. Therefore, every page of a book is part
of an education in reading.

Other literary example: In the Hunger Games, the Mockingjay pin seems to represent mocking jays
(hybrid between jabber jays and mockingbirds) or their home district, but in reality, it symbolizes
rebellion, and ultimately, Katniss herself; she becomes the Mockingjay.
Media/pop culture example: In Frozen, Elsa s gloves seem to be used to solely hide her magical power
to prevent hurting anyone but the deeper meaning is that the gloves represent Elsa s fear of showing
people who she really is because she is different than the others. Likewise, Hans uses his gloves to
mask his true evil self near the end of the movie, as he tries to kill Anna by leaving her to freeze to

Why I Became A Missouri Resident
As I grew up in a suburb of Missouri I was not very aware of the so called boarder wars that Kansans
and Missourians experienced. I became much more aware of the stereotypes that arose from either
sides of the Stateline once I entered high school. Still a Missouri resident I was not very familiar with
Kansas s culture, or even some of the main differences between the two States. Once my family
moved west of the Stateline I finally experienced hands on some of the main differences. There was a
different in culture, as well as a few legal differences. Lots of laws vary drastically from state to state,
and this is something very unique to the United States. Once my family moved to Kansas there were a
few obvious differences, one of which was the ability to purchase liquor at your grocery store. On the
Missouri side one is able to purchase a variety of liquors with no limits on alcohol percentages by
volume from grocery stores, and gas stations. Additionally, stores are able to sell liquor until midnight
on Sundays. Controversially, Kansas s liquor stores are only able to sell liquor until 8 P.M. on
Sundays, which also requires a special license. Grocery stores in Kansas are only able to sell
beverages that have an alcohol percentage less than 3.2%. An additional difference between Kansas
and Missouri are the requirements for obtaining a drivers license. Kansas has a minimum age
requirement of 14 to possess a learner s permit, while Missouri has a minimum age of 15. Once

Case Study Of Anemia And Bleeding Disorders
Module 5 Assignment: Case Studies Anemia and bleeding disorders are common conditions that affect
the human blood. Anemia involves a decrease in both hemoglobin concentration and the number of
erythrocytes in the blood. As a result, the condition causes a decrease in the blood s oxygen carrying
capacity. On the other hand, bleeding disorders involve heavy and continuous loss of blood. They are
often classified into coagulation disorders and platelet disorders. In the current study, two different
cases of anemia and bleeding disorder were investigated.
Anemia
In a case of anemia, a 47 year old male patient presented with several symptoms. The patient was
asked whether he was experiencing dyspnea on exertion, as well as fatigue and general ... Show more

Moreover, bone marrow biopsy revealed low iron stores and megaloblastic changes. The results also
showed normal levels of B12 but low levels of red cell folate and serum folate. The patient, therefore,
demonstrated an overall lack of iron in his blood, which suggested the presence of anemia involving
iron deficiency. Basically, iron deficiency decreases ferritin and decreases iron stores in the bone
marrow, which in turn causes the production of abnormal erythrocytes (Yadav et al., 2016). Therefore,
further assessment of the patient requires the identification of brittle nails, angular cheilitis, and
glossitis, which are associated with iron deficiency. Based on the laboratory findings, the most likely
diagnosis of the patient s condition is iron deficiency anemia. Accordingly, the patient can be managed
in several ways. First, the patient should be advised to discontinue alcohol intake. Iron deficiency in
the patient should be evaluated further, particularly by performing a thorough gastrointestinal
examination. Moreover, sixty mg of iron should be administered three times every day to promote the
normalization of Hct. In the case of unresponsiveness or intolerance to the dose, alternative therapies
like the use of iron sucrose and ferric gluconate are indicated. Suitable antibiotic combinations have
also been shown to reverse iron deficiency in patients suffering from atrophic gastritis that is
associated with Helicobacter pylori (Miernyk et al.,

Analysis Of The Planets By Gustav Theodore Holst
Gustav Theodore Holst was born on September 21st, 1874 and died on May 25th, 1934 he was an
English composer and teacher. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became
famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had
seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no
connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the
God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns,
timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five
beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the
Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific,
insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast
tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the
movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an
end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms,
the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military
essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow
slightly changed. Gustav creates

The Observation Of Elephants
What species performs burials, has the ability to cry, and form many complex relationships throughout
their lives? Elephants. Since many individuals might have guessed humans or primates first, this one
question shows the complexity of this species. Transition This paper tries to answer one main
question: How does elephant behavior, both in captive and wild settings, provide data that can lead to
evidence based practices for building captive enclosures, daily activities, and help with conservation
practices, both in captivity and in the wild. For this discussion, I am going to focus on the family,
Elephantidae, as a whole. Though some might argue that the genus Loxodonta (African) and Maximus
(Asian) should be analyzed separately, I find the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is hard to create and provide hard evidence to support this ideal when there is not a linguistic way to
communicate between humans and other species. For the purposes of this discussion I will use Breed
and Moore s definition: Cognition is the ability of an animal to separate itself from the moment in
which it is living and to contemplate the past, predict the future, and act accordingly (2016). Cognition
experiments on elephants did not begin until the late 1950 s, starting with Rensch s study on memory.
Since than scientist s have tested/ studied problem solving, rituals, emotions, deception, casual
reasoning, tool making, and tool use within elephants with many having positive results (Plotnik et al.,
2010). One aspect of cognition that has been tested in many primates in the recent years is the mirror
self recognition test; this is considered the basic level of cognition. Plotnik and colleagues completed
this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo (2010). This test involves three stages, where
each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the elephants passed the mark part of the test, they
showed many other characteristics that indicated self recognition (that was in other species like
chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). However, the discrepancy could be due to the way elephants
identify one another: through touch, sounds, and smell, which a mirror cannot replicate (Plotnik et

Cultural Difference And Decision Making
Assessment Task 2: Group Talk Assignment
What is cultural difference in decision making and does cultural difference influence decision
making?
In today s quick paced, focused and complex environment, decision making aptitudes are essential
qualities that any management must have. As human being, we are not conceived with impeccable
decision making aptitudes; we learn through skills and experiences that begin our primary school
stages to and keep on adapting through to our expert life. Decision making can be hard and decision
incudes a few clashes or disappointment. Decision making is the process of making a one choice from

How Did Ben Carson Impact Personal Life
1. How did Ben Carson s story impact your personal life? Give 2 3 examples.
Ben Carson s story impacted my personal life in many ways. Ben Carson is an inspiration for
numerous aspiring doctors or other careers in the medical field. He is also an inspiration to people of
color and financially unstable people. He has surpassed multiple hardships and is a very successful
person today. Everyone who is active in currents events know who he is because he is running for the
Republican Presidential Election and/or his astounding and notable surgeries.
One major aspect in his life that inspired me that I have the potential of fulfilling my dreams is his
humble beginnings. Carson was not as privileged as he is today; he was an inner city kid born and
raised in Detroit by only his mother. His mother made sure her children had morals and an education
because she herself did not go to school past the third grade and was not able to read well. In the
beginning of his school years, he was at the back of his class and made fun of by the other children
because he did not excel in his classes. He turned this around and became top of his class due to his
mother enforcement of studious habits. Despite his past, he was accepted into one of the most elite

White Privilege And White Skin Privilege
2
Privilege refers to the unearned advantages enjoyed by a particular group simply because of
membership in that group. Privileges accrue to those who (consciously or not) oppress others and are
generally invisible to those who enjoy them (Swigonski, M.E. 1996). Having that in mind my position
on white privilege (or white skin privilege) which can also be called the huge pink elephant in the
room. Society (especially now) believe that America have advanced past racism when in all actuality
we still have a long way to go. People in our society can go through life without knowing about white
privilege or realizing they themselves, may have this privilege. The white or lighter skin color of a
person has automatic benefits, right from birth, them not ever having to do anything to attain this
privilege. The consequences are mostly good and outweigh the bad, for the ones that have white
privilege. However, skin that is not white has far more injustices, they are oppressed and they are the
ones that suffer, not having this same privilege (King, M.T. 2009). I do believe the only difference
between racism and 2016 as compared to 1960 is the law civil laws enacted caused white Americans
to construct more subtle ways of displaying racist behaviours. In doing this assignment not only did I

A Student s First Year Of College Essay
The significance behind earning a college degree has changed drastically over the last several decades.
With many professions now requiring a college education, more students are enrolled in college today
than ever before. However, just because more students are enrolled in college does not mean that more
people are on the path to success. Attending college can present a plethora of obstacles for students
due to a variety of different reasons. As leaders in higher education work to develop strategies to
support students towards their college degree, it is imperative that we understand and review the
various factors that hinder a student s progress.
Literature Review A student s first year of college is arguably one of the most critical years in a
student s collegiate career. When students perform well in their first year of college, they are
significantly more likely to continue towards and earn their degree. Therefore, it is especially
important that higher education officials analyze ways to improve upon a student s initial college
experience. Kuh, Cruce, Shoup, Kinzie, and Gonyea (2008) analyzed the relationships between
student engagement and academic achievement and persistence among first year students. Using
ACT/SAT score reports, the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), and student academic
and financial aid information, researchers sought to determine the contributing factors of first year
GPA. While pre college experiences explain 29 percent of

The Indian Market Of Mass Consumerism And Debt Based...
Introduction :
The Indian market is not the Western market of mass consumerism and debt based consumption. This
might seem like an obvious thing to say. However, this important fact has determined how the market
has adopted to the new trends seen in the western market.
In this context, it is not surprising that credit cards and online shopping was not easily adopted in the
easy market. People were sceptical of a plastic as money and trusting their information over the
unknown internet. Moreover, shopping is also an intensely personal experience in this culture. The
experience is an important part of the process. This is slowly changing. However, the change in the
online grocery shopping sector is not as fast. People are still hesitant about getting their food through
the internet.
The following points highlights that shows how online grocery shopping is better in the Indian market.
1. No Traffic Problem
The traffic in the Indian cities is notoriously bad. People could be stuck in it for hours even when they
want to travel a few kilometer. Sometimes, the time spent in traffic is more than the time people spend
shopping for groceries. This is unstainable and a big waste of time and thus online grocery shopping
can help people save the time.
2. Savings in Parking Cost
Anybody who has ever lived in any Indian city understand that finding parking especially for cars and
jeeps is more difficult than buying a house. So, to get rid of this colossal hassle online grocery

Manners And Class Manned In Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Manners and class presented in Pride and Prejudice.
According to Margetson 1980, During the Romantic period in England manners were considered to be
more than just a greeting to one another. Having manners meant you were socially at a higher rank.
According to In Romantic period, their character and self presentation was main key to define their
rank and manners. Jane Austen engages with this idea and talk about the importance of manners
describing the way an individual character behaves according to their class and rank. She meant that
higher classes (who are from a good family and proper education) will automatically have good
manners. And the manners they have are bound up with the property and their class rank. In Pride and
prejudice manners were considered as an aspect to be learned by a society (especially the lower class)
from the higher class people s expectations. However, since manners can be learned and they can also
be lacked, so it is never automatically true that a person from an upper class has good manners.
In Pride and Prejudice , Austen shows the lack of manners and represents the false manners of people.

Essay about The Film Amadeus
The Film Amadeus
This paper will take a look into the movie Amadeus, to see if the film accurately
depicts the history of Amadeus and the enlightenment of the characters. The time period
that the film takes place in is the 18th century. There is a mixture of social class in this
film. There are rulers and commoners shown in this film. The main characters in the film
which are Mozart, Salieri, and Emperor Joseph represent actual historical figures. The
film was made in 1984.
The film was somewhat accurate with the characters and the time, but for the
most part the film never stated what year everything was happening in. Someone could

For example when
Emperor Joseph wanted Amadeus to stay in Vienna to make an opera he also wanted him
to stay because it would upset the bishop. There were also many ideas that Mozart
showed Joseph. Joseph allowed these works to happen showed his enlightenment. These
idea were seen wrong in the social class in Vienna, but Joseph still accept these ideas.
One example was the first opera that Mozart did for Joseph. Amadeus wanted to
do the opera in German. This was seen as unmoral cause all opera s were in Italian. Also
Mozart wanted to use a setting of Turkey. This idea was accepted by Joseph. The ideas
that Joseph accepted looked to be the most risky. These idea showed that he was an
enlighten Despot. Another example was when Mozart was plan on doing an opera on The
Marriage of Figaro. This was a very risqué opera. Mozart promised that it not going to be
a vulgar opera. Joseph again agreed to this opera, even do his subjects didn t agree. Then
during rehearsals there was ballet in the opera which was against the law to have in the
opera. This law was made by Joseph. Then after seeing the play without it, he wanted it
in because it didn t look right. He basically changed his own law, to the displeased of his
subjects again. Emperor Joseph showed enlightenment many times in this film.
Mozart can be viewed as an enlightenment hero. He stood against the opposition

The Controversy Over The English Language Of The World
The English language began its climb to world dominance with the rise of the British Empire in the
16th century. During this time English began to spread as the worlds lingua franca for business and
trade. With the support of the United States, which at the time was one of the most successful nations
in history, english was able to overthrow all previous lingua francas. However, english should not be
considered as the gateway to the world . Although the english language is widely spoken around the
world, making english language the official language of the world will lead to diminishing cultural
diversity.
Intrinsic arguments describe the English language as providential, rich, noble and interesting. Such
arguments tend to assert what English is and what other languages are not . As mentioned previously,
notwithstanding that the english language is widely spoken around the world, diversity is important
and for many individuals language is the basis of their culture. Making english the global language is

who agree that english should be the world s official tongue have never attempted to learn any other

Functional arguments emphasize the usefulness of English as a gateway to the world . I do agree that

not agree that it is the gateway to the world . Instead I believe that english can potentially be a co

Why I Should Be A Good Adult
It took me years to figure out what I wanted to be when I grow up. Truth be told I still don t know, and
don t ever plan too. Mostly because I cannot imagine becoming a true adult. I d have to do adult things
like return a sweater I didn t like or gardening. Gardening! I d have to spend hours upon hours toiling
in fields for plants that won t live to see spring! Or cooking, forbid it that I should ever enjoy cooking.
Half the time I mess up boiling water, and make macaroni solely from a microwave. I m still be afraid
of librarians and speaking to strangers. I intend to use Mickey Mouse band aids, color with crayons
and eat lucky charms until the day I m cold in my grave. I could never be a good adult.

all the time. Those days when you can t seem to pull yourself out of a funk I remember. I remember

always clutching a tiny Snow White doll. She has incandescently blue eyes and she smiles regardless
of what has happened. The kind of kid who can t seem to shut up and is friends with everyone.
However, she flips the sounds of her letters. She doesn t mind and it s kind of cute. It makes her name
turn from Kelsey to Telsee.
I remember the day she was more scared than she had ever been in her entire life.
I remember the long hallway that seemed to lead to nowhere deep within the recesses of a high school
in a now long forgotten building. How her tiny hands clutched to the doll as if it would save her from
whatever creature was on the other side of the door. I remember the panic she felt at being alone with
an adult she had never met. She dreamt up villains and monsters each more unlikely than the last, all
of whom had horns, and fangs, and terrified children everywhere. Without even the solace of her
mother, the girl marched on and her stubborn smile faded into a grimace as neared the door.

Rap American Culture
Rap music has taken its shape over the last six decades, starting in the 60s and still modernizing today.
Over the last fifty years a new era has developed in American culture. This era is modern rap. Rap has
taken over modern culture as a popular form of music for many different age groups. The rap industry
has been booming for the past three decades. With what I have said, this leads me to my research
question. How has modern rap come to be in American culture? Rap is actually a very old term dating
back to 15th century Europe. The term rap originally meant to strike or hit something. ( Cole Mize
Studios ) However, centuries later the word began to adapt a new meaning. By the 60s, rap began to
be used in the black community as a slang word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Female rappers also play a role in rap. From the early groups of Salt n Pepa to the new sensation Iggy
Iselias. These female artists just add more diversity to the genre. Rap is still diverse as ever. With a
new type of lesser known rap has begun to emerge. This style being Gospel or Christian rap. Some of
the best known Christian rap artist being Lecrae and tobyMac. ( Wikipedia ) I completely agree that
these are the two main artists since they have been very prominent for a while. Andy Mineo has
become popular and many people leave him out of the conversation. This genre of rap is so different
from all other forms of rap. It is used as a way of expressing protestant traditions. ( Wikipedia )
Christian rap has grown popular enough to get its own categories at Christian Award shows such as,
GMA Dove Awards and Stellar Awards. ( Wikipedia ) However, Christian rap does not have as diverse
of an audience as the mainstream rap audience. Christian rap typically is followed by the white church
going population. So, why exactly is learning about the history of rap important? It is important
because it has become such a large part of our modern culture. Learning more about it is necessary to
further understand why it is such a large part of our society. Some people may disapprove of what rap
has come to be due to its current negative connotation.

Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning The Social
Gender socialization is the process of learning the social prospects and behaviors connected with one s

Reflection For Classroom Learning
To learn this week s material, answer the discussion post, program the programming assignment, and
get a good grade on the self quiz, I studied the learning material for almost 6 hours a day. I find if fun
to sit down with the learning material, which was chapters one and two, and take notes during all my
free time.
My reactions to the learning material chapters one and two are so much information, that I didn t have
enough time to read the optional learning material, or watch the optional video lectures. Chapters one
and two are more than 100 pages of reading material; however, I did have time to read the NetBeans
tutorials.
I m still waiting for feedback to my discussion posts. I may have gotten my discussion post done early.
There were only 3 or four other discussion posts posted previous to me entering in my discussion
response in the discussion forum. However, I gave these three other students responses posts to their
discussion posts, where I gave good grades for using learning material vocabulary and learning
material insight to what the definitions of four operators are( ++ , != , , and %= ).
I m a little dis heartened right now. The reason for my discouragement is my computer may have a
glitch. Certain mathematical operations are fouled up by some malicious code, and when I multiply
variables by 10 (in Netbeans and other IDEs), I get erroneous decimal places added onto my figures.
This week, I learned how to setup NetBeans, how to discern basic fundemental programming blocks
of java, how to setup java variables, how to control the flow of execution with branches and loops,
how to test for conditions with operators, how to build classes, how to use installed classes like String
and Math, how to use installed subroutines with string and Math, what the size of primitive data types
are(short, int, long, float, double, char, and ), how to use enums, etc. ...almost too much to list in one
paragraph, here.
What causes me to wonder is the built in methods of the String function, the built in methods of the
Math library, and string formatting options. I want to make a website out of these built in classes and
their subroutines. If I mastered these classes and subroutines, I would be a better

Porphyrias Lover And My Last Duchess Comparison Essay

My Last Duchess is about an individual from the respectability conversing with a minister concerning
his keep going spouse, who later on in the sonnet is uncovered to have been killed by the individual
talking, who is going to wed his second wife. Porphyria s Lover gives an understanding into the brain
of an uncommonly possessive significant other, who slaughters his partner keeping in mind the end
goal to catch that impeccable snapshot of empathy (Afsari 12). Porphyria s Lover utilizes a rotating
rhyme plot amid the greater part of the ballad aside from toward the end. The entire ballad is just a
single stanza long, and each line in the stanza includes eight syllables.
In My Last Duchess, the Duke takes a gander at the artistic creation of his last duchess and trails off to
the past. He talks about the admirers of the Duchess excellence and the coy responses of the Duchess
of them. At that point, he talks about how he closes this by executing the Duchess.
In My Last Duchess, the speaker is passed on as being controlling, pompous, malevolent, and
whimsical. The Duke hints at desire and over assurance towards his first spouse. Then again, the
storyteller in Porphyria s Lover is depicted as who has put some distance between realities, somebody
obviously crazy. There a couple of clues that this character might be desolate and pulled back. After

Cosmetics And Its Impact On The Makeup Industry
Purchasing the most expensive and popular cosmetic brand might seem as the best option to protect
oneself from imperfections but, is the product s price determined by popularity or safety regulations?
Cosmetics have transformed the industries to make themselves an essential part of consumer s daily
routine. Cosmetics were first used by tribes as a form of camouflage to disguise themselves from
enemies and predators. Mud, ashes and natural dyes, were used to hide themselves from predators and
to create a sense of fear in the pray (Goering). During the Renaissance period, cosmetics lost its

least is the result part of the research conducted by the researcher. The page length of result section is
set by the amount and types of data to be reported. Continue to be concise, using figures and table to
present results are the most effective means of conveying final results. The purpose of a results section
is to present and illustrate researcher s findings.
To write a good research paper, there is a need to be specific about the topic. The content in the topic
must be specific, clear n short. The content should make an impact on the mind of the readers.
Following are the ten steps which should be considered while writing a good research paper.
Choose Your Topic. Some important points should be considered when choosing a topic. Choose a
topic that is of a wide interest. Attitude towards the topic may well determine the amount of effort and
enthusiasm the researcher puts while doing the research. There should be sufficient information about

The Neonatal Brain Mri Image Database
As shown in the above figure 1, the input neonatal image from the database is preprocessed using
techniques such as noise removal, inhomogeneity and partial volume correction. Then from the
preprocessed image the texture feature is extracted through EWT (Empirical Wavelet transform) and
the most relevant features like Entropy, Correlation, Contrast, Homogeneity and Dissimilarity are
chosen by GLCM (Gray Level Co Occurrence Matrix). Based on the selected features the image is
segmented by means of SOM DCNN and then from the segmented image the tissues are classified
through the help of sparse auto encoder.
Consider is the neonatal brain MRI image database, where is the number of images and the vector
function of each image in the neonatal brain MRI image database is given as .
3.1 Preprocessing
The regions of an image containing different intensity values can be modelled as a finite Gaussian
distribution. All the pixels in the same image belongs to same class and energy function is given by (1)
Where is a set of Gaussian parameters; is the Gaussian mean and is the Gaussian variance for the
object .
Also reduction of noise present in the image is important and it is done when the contextual constraint
is taken into account as the weight of the pixel. For the above equation 4 with zero mean only the
variance is varied by additive Gaussian noise. By this way the Gaussian model suppress the Gaussian
noise and variation can be

Grasmere And Alfoxden Essay
When analysing Dorothy s Grasmere and Alfoxden journals and William s I Wandered Lonely as a
Cloud it is impossible for the question of the true nature of Dorothy and William s relationship not to
be raised. Despite the fact that William married Mary Hutcherson and then had an affair and a child
with his french lover Annette Vallon, his relationship with his sister seemed to stretch much farther
than simple familial love. In an article in The Guardian entitled Remember Dorothy by James Fenton
it is stated that according to Dorothy s journals William parted from her in order to be with his then
soon to be wife Ms Hutcherson. Dorothy writes I gave him the wedding ring, with how deep a
blessing! I took it from my forefinger where I had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However when looking at the Grasmere and Alfoxden journals and Wordsworth s daffodils side by
side through the eyes of a feminist critical thinker and reader, it is difficult to comprehend the
unjustness that women in the nineteenth century faced due to its reigning patriarchal society. The idea
that no one would ve bat an eyelid has Dorothy claimed the part she played in Wordsworth s poem
because she was a mere woman both astounds and angers me.
The relationship between William Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud and Dorothy
Wordsworth s Grasmere Journals is undeniably illuminated when both sources are read side by side
with a feminist point of view. The similarities which I have outlined above are too blatantly obvious
for one to even attempt to deny, this coupled with the fact the Grasmere and Alfoxden journals were
written between the years 1800 and 1803, and Wordsworth s I wandered lonely as a cloud was written
approximately four to seven years

Black Worm
The Lumbriculus Variegatus, or Black Worm, is a species of worm, which belong to the Annelida
family, meaning their bodies are formed of segments instead of jointed legs (Brinkhurst, Gelder,
1991). The Black worm mainly inhabits the European and North American regions, notably in the
shallow habitats, such as the edges of ponds, marshes, or lakes. Black worms diets consist of
vegetation, and underwater microorganisms like algae (Brinkhurst, Gelder, 1991). Black worms are
normally located in the sandy sediments from deeper parts in the water that they inhabit. Black worms
use their head to search for food, while their tales often project upward. The worm does this to break
water tension, in hopes that an exchange between gas and air, along ... Show more content on

In a typical segment, the ventral nerve cord has four pairs of segmental nerves that extend laterally
and dorsally around the body wall (Stephenson, 1930). Some of the segment s nerve fibers are
sensitive and quickly detect any stimulation to the worms body (Lesiuk, N. M. and C. D. Drewes,
1999). Other fibers are motor fibers that supply wall muscle cells. The nerve cord controls the worm s
muscles that, in return, cause it to move. Worms use their muscles to crawl through the mud by getting
extra traction from bristles that can be seen from the side of their body. Worms will rapidly pull back
their head or tail if it is touched. Worms that hold their tail up to the water surface may quickly
withdraw it if a shadow suddenly occurs. This is because these worms have tiny simple eyes (called
photoreceptor cells) scattered along their tail segments. In water, worms can also swim for short
distances by making corkscrew movements with their body (zool.iastate.edu, n.d., n.a.).
The Lumbriculus Variegatus, in recent years had been looked over for classroom and laboratory use.
However, these worms present great promise for researcher and student friendly laboratory
experiments. Black worms have been found to be very helpful and informative in experiments
involved with subjects such as: Physiology, Development,

Tracy Smith Identity
Comparative Literary Essay: Who Am I?
The journey of life does not always lead people to their desired destination; instead it spews them out
into a cold reality where they are not satisfied their our own identity. Everyone is faced with decisions
in life to make; it is ultimately how individuals think and act in these situations that makes them
human and portrays an identity for them. Humans are bound to make mistakes during these critical
decisions that affect both relationships and them as individuals; as a result people are regretful about
their identity. Sooner or later people arrive at a point in life where they want to reassess themselves,
indicating the theme of Rethinking Identity that is associated with search for an identity, which ...

Tracy K. Smith incorporates many instants of imagery in order to convey her message, my arm on the
rest beside yours, our lights pricking at the fog, tugging us patiently. (Smith, 29,29) This picture is
clearly painted in the mind of the reader, further interpretation leads us to believe that Tracy K. Smith
is trying to find direction in life and into how she wants to both act and be perceived, as but her path is
unclear, just as the fog makes our road hazy. The use of imagery is also beneficial as it gives the
reader insight into what Tracy K. Smith thought about her identity at different points in her life, such
an instance is given in her childhood, What did it mean to smooth across the casket of your belly?
What echoed there, if not me . (Smith, 6,7) This shows that Tracy had thought about her identity in the
past, and wondered what it was. It gives the readers a sense of not knowing themselves, this would
push anyone into a search or rethinking an identity, the same goes for Tracy. Rachel Joyce strategically
uses imagery, He wanted to describe what it feels like to find your boy in a pool of vomit and carry
him to bed and mop him up and pretend in the morning you have not seen that. He wanted to say what
it was like to be a child and find the man who was your father in the same manner. He wanted to say,
What happened? Was it me? Am I the link here? But he didn t. (Joyce, 256) Through Harold s
accounts, it becomes undeniable that his son had put him in a frictional position, mentally challenging
Harold, and putting the blame on him. His son s actions lead Harold to doubt the way he had brought
his son up. Imagery paints a picture to the characters harsh realty in both the novel and poem, which
leads us doubtless into why they

George Washington, The World s Greatest Leader Essay
George Washington, The World s Greatest Leader
On April 30, 1789, George Washington took his oath of office as the first President of the United
States. He knew that not only would he be faced with the challenge of leading a young nation with a
plethora of problems, but that his every move and decision would be scrutinized and, hopefully,
emulated by his successors. As the first of every thing (SP), in our situation will serve to establish a
Precedent, he wrote James Madison, it is devoutly wished on my part, that these precedents may be
fixed on true principles. (George Washington). Not only was every decision a precedent, as stated in
mountvernon.org: in every turn America as a young country was in peril; every decision was layered
with implications, competing passions, political pettiness, danger. (Mount Vernon).
Why did George Washington emerge as the most significant leader in the founding of the United
States of America, even to the extent of being called the Father of the Country? The facts show us that
he led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War over what was at the time
the world s most powerful military. Later, as president, he guided the United States in its formative
years. His leadership and vision established a foundation that would transform America from 13
loosely connected states into an unequalled economic and military superpower.
There have been many effective leaders and some great ones. Washington s perseverance and

The Five Precepts in the Context of The Eightfold Path Essay
The Five Precepts in the Context of The Eightfold Path Both The Five Precepts and The Eightfold
Path are significant elements of the Buddhist religion. The precepts act as a guide for the average
everyday lay Buddhist on how to create the least amount of karmic energy possible. It by no means is
the way directly to reaching Nirvana. The Eightfold Path however, is known as the way. It is, in itself,
the Fourth Noble Truth, and the path to enlightenment. In this examination of the Five Precepts I will
endeavour to relate them in context to the different aspects of the Eightfold Path. All the precepts
begin with, I abstain from so a definition of this word is relevant. The Oxford Dictionary ... Show

It would help the enrichment of appreciation for The Third Precept, which is to not to indulge in
sexual misconduct, because it would enable one to gain supra mundane intellectual understanding of
the reasons why they should not partake in sexual transgression. Enrichment of appreciation for The
Fourth Precept which is not to tell lies or speak falsehood would be helped because right
understanding would teach an individual the supra mundane understanding of why it wrong to lie.
Appreciation for The Fifth Precept, which is to abstain from the use of intoxicants, would be enhanced
because it would teach an individual the supra mundane understanding of why it is wrong to use
intoxicants. The consequences of all the actions abstained from in the precepts would be fully realised
and contemplated to reach a full understanding. Those consequences of such actions would be
suffering and bad karma, preventing spiritual development for all people involved. Right Thought
would help the enhancement of appreciation for the first precept, which is to abstain from the
destruction of life, as it would eliminate negative thoughts of greed and ill will, by over coming sense
pleasures and replace it with the cultivation of loving kindness, by practicing acts of amity and
concord. It would enhance the appreciation of the second precept, which is not to take things that are

Introduction For my project I have chosen a Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) – an international
automobile manufacturer. In addition, Toyota provides retail and wholesale financing, retail leasing
and certain other financial services primarily to its dealers and their customers related to vehicles
manufactured by Toyota. The major portions of Toyota s operations on a worldwide basis are derived
from the Automotive and Financial Services business segments. The Company also has an All Other
segment, which includes its non automotive business activities. The most significant of Toyota s other
operations are its information technology (IT) related businesses and pre fabricated housing. The
company was established in 1937. The Toyota group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Toyota has invested in several joint ventures. These joint ventures may be deemed as variable interest
entities, however, neither the aggregate size of these JVs nor Toyota s involvements in these entities
are expected to be material to Toyota s consolidated financial statements. In February 2003, EITF
reached a consensus on Issue of Accounting for the Transfer to the Japanese Government of the
Substitutional Portion of Employee Pension Fund Liabilities. Toyota has already begun the separation
process. However, no effect of this transaction has been recognized in the consolidated financial
statements for the year ended March 31, 2003 as the completion of the transfer of the benefit
obligation and related plan assets to the Japanese government is expected in the year ending March 31,
2004. Subseqent events, errors and irregularities, illegal acts or related party transactions TMC did not
get involved into any related party transactions. TMC enters only in business interactions with its
business partners, contract suppliers and affiliated companies. There were no errors or irregularities
reported for the TMC for the year ended March 31, 2003. There were some factors that could
influence the future operations of the company. TMC was involved in various pending and settled
court proceedings that could have an impact in the future. I will describe only the most important
ones: 1. In February 2003 Toyota

What Is The Similarities Between Flowers For Algernon And...
Does knowledge really bring true happiness? In the story Flowers for Algernon Charlie Gordon is a 37
year old, mentally challenged man, who wants nothing more than to be smart. Well he got his chance
to be smart and he took it; he was chosen for an operation that could change his life and make him
much more intelligent than he actually was. Charlie thought being smart would make him normal but
the operation ended up being unsuccessful. He went back to the way he was. In the story The Garden
Of Eden, Adam and Eve were chosen to be the first humans. They chose to bite from the tree of
knowledge and disobey God. They were punished to live life and then die. Both Charlie Gordon, and
Adam and eve resemble each other in many ways. Both Flowers for Algernon and the Garden of Eden
are both similar as they both thought biting from the tree of knowledge would bring them intelligence.
In the beginning of the story of Flowers for Algernon, Charlie was blessed with happiness, but always
desired to be smart. Just like the story the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve did not necessarily
wanted to be smart, but wanted to be like God and wanted to experience the knowledge like God had.

all. He ended up losing friends and being an outcast. In Adam and Eve they also believed knowledge
was power. They believed that if they bit from the tree of knowledge they would gain knowledge and
be like god. Another theme is think about it before you risk it all. Charlie risked his happiness to be
normal or be just like everyone else ,Adam and Eve risked their freedom in hopes to find knowledge

The Trouble With Idol Meat 1 Corinthian Analysis
Paul instructs the Corinthians in several aspects and teaches them how to live their lives as Christians.
The Corinthian church has several serious problems that they either ignore or simply think their sin is
ok. Paul holds them accountable in all that they are doing and reprimands them. He illustrates that he
will either come to them with a gentle spirit or the rod of discipline. One of the topics discussed is idol
meat. But what s especially interesting is that the Corinthians brought it up first rather than Paul. The
Corinthians thought it was a serious issue and were genuinely troubled by what the right course of
action was. The article I chose to discuss is The Trouble with Idol Meat: 1 Corinthians 8:1 13, by
Mike Graves. This article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hermeneutical move can be described as a direct bridge connecting two different time periods. It s
one single move that makes the connection between ancient text and 2017. This is actually a very
daunting task to accomplish for leaders in the church when they are doing so many different activities
throughout the week that is also expected of them. If you are going to bridge the gap between ancient
text and today with an honest effort Graves brings up the point that it might be better not to achieve
the gap all at once. That is a lot of information to handle right away, and if you want to understand all
the details it might be better to take one little step at a time. Nancy Lammers suggests that preachers
are more like gymnasts on a high bar, swinging back and forth between text and today throughout the
week. The preacher studies the ancient text, all the while mindful of what is going on in the
community and the larger world, all the while engaging in ancient text; back and forth our thoughts
race throughout the week. (Graves, pg 644) It might be better to fully understand the text if you study
it in smaller increments and relate it to today also in smaller increments. Graves is effective in
illustrating this point by arguing with common sense. Studying scripture in smaller sections and
relating that to our world might be more effective than trying to do it all at

Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future. In order to find a solution for the problem the prison system took and is still taking steps such as classifying the gang members and other violent inmates as security threat groups (STG s). Both prison officials and law enforcement agencies refer to gangs as STG s rather than gangs in order to take away from the assumptions and exposure that the word gang gets. There are several ways of becoming classified as a security threat group, such as self admission, known gang tattoos, confiscation of STG paraphernalia, or information provided by an informant acknowledging the inmate as a gang member. All known security threat groups are kept in single inmate cells known as administration segregation to separate them from the rest of the inmate population, in hopes of reducing the amount of communication between gang members and the amount violence. One problem with administration segregation is a the amount of available space; the number of inmates classified as a security threat group greatly exceeds the space available thus causing many prisons to keep STG s in the general inmate population and putting only leaders of the gangs in administration segregation. The simple decision of allowing the security threat groups to remain in the general inmate population increases the probability of violence within the prison tremendously. The prisons have also implemented a graduate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I became much more aware of the stereotypes that arose from either sides of the Stateline once I entered high school. Still a Missouri resident I was not very familiar with Kansas s culture, or even some of the main differences between the two States. Once my family moved west of the Stateline I finally experienced hands on some of the main differences. There was a different in culture, as well as a few legal differences. Lots of laws vary drastically from state to state, and this is something very unique to the United States. Once my family moved to Kansas there were a few obvious differences, one of which was the ability to purchase liquor at your grocery store. On the Missouri side one is able to purchase a variety of liquors with no limits on alcohol percentages by volume from grocery stores, and gas stations. Additionally, stores are able to sell liquor until midnight on Sundays. Controversially, Kansas s liquor stores are only able to sell liquor until 8 P.M. on Sundays, which also requires a special license. Grocery stores in Kansas are only able to sell beverages that have an alcohol percentage less than 3.2%. An additional difference between Kansas and Missouri are the requirements for obtaining a drivers license. On the other hand, bleeding disorders involve heavy and continuous loss of blood. They are often classified into coagulation disorders and platelet disorders. Moreover, bone marrow biopsy revealed low iron stores and megaloblastic changes. The results also showed normal levels of B12 but low levels of red cell folate and serum folate. The patient, therefore, demonstrated an overall lack of iron in his blood, which suggested the presence of anemia involving iron deficiency. Basically, iron deficiency decreases ferritin and decreases iron stores in the bone marrow, which in turn causes the production of abnormal erythrocytes (Yadav et al., 2016). Therefore, further assessment of the patient requires the identification of brittle nails, angular cheilitis, and glossitis, which are associated with iron deficiency. Based on the laboratory findings, the most likely diagnosis of the patient s condition is iron deficiency anemia. Accordingly, the patient can be managed in several ways. First, the patient should be advised to discontinue alcohol intake. Iron deficiency in the patient should be evaluated further, particularly by performing a thorough gastrointestinal examination. Moreover, sixty mg of iron should be administered three times every day to promote the normalization of Hct. In the case of unresponsiveness or intolerance to the dose, alternative therapies like the use of iron sucrose and ferric gluconate are indicated. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns, timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific, insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms, the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow slightly changed. Gustav creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since than scientist s have tested/ studied problem solving, rituals, emotions, deception, casual reasoning, tool making, and tool use within elephants with many having positive results (Plotnik et al., 2010). One aspect of cognition that has been tested in many primates in the recent years is the mirror self recognition test; this is considered the basic level of cognition. Plotnik and colleagues completed this test with three female elephants at the Bronx Zoo (2010). This test involves three stages, where each shows a level of recognition. Though none of the elephants passed the mark part of the test, they showed many other characteristics that indicated self recognition (that was in other species like chimpanzees and bottle nose dolphins). Privileges accrue to those who (consciously or not) oppress others and are generally invisible to those who enjoy them (Swigonski, M.E. 1996). Having that in mind my position on white privilege (or white skin privilege) which can also be called the huge pink elephant in the room. Society (especially now) believe that America have advanced past racism when in all actuality we still have a long way to go. People in our society can go through life without knowing about white privilege or realizing they themselves, may have this privilege. The white or lighter skin color of a person has automatic benefits, right from birth, them not ever having to do anything to attain this privilege. The consequences are mostly good and outweigh the bad, for the ones that have white privilege. However, skin that is not white has far more injustices, they are oppressed and they are the ones that suffer, not having this same privilege (King, M.T. 2009). Attending college can present a plethora of obstacles for students due to a variety of different reasons. The similarities which I have outlined above are too blatantly obvious for one to even attempt to deny, this coupled with the fact the Grasmere and Alfoxden journals were written between the years 1800 and 1803, and Wordsworth s I wandered lonely as a cloud was written approximately four to seven years ... • 43. Black Worm The Lumbriculus Variegatus, or Black Worm, is a species of worm, which belong to the Annelida family, meaning their bodies are formed of segments instead of jointed legs (Brinkhurst, Gelder, 1991). The Black worm mainly inhabits the European and North American regions, notably in the shallow habitats, such as the edges of ponds, marshes, or lakes. Black worms diets consist of vegetation, and underwater microorganisms like algae (Brinkhurst, Gelder, 1991). Black worms are normally located in the sandy sediments from deeper parts in the water that they inhabit. Black worms use their head to search for food, while their tales often project upward. The worm does this to break water tension, in hopes that an exchange between gas and air, along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a typical segment, the ventral nerve cord has four pairs of segmental nerves that extend laterally and dorsally around the body wall (Stephenson, 1930). Some of the segment s nerve fibers are sensitive and quickly detect any stimulation to the worms body (Lesiuk, N. M. and C. D. Drewes, 1999). Other fibers are motor fibers that supply wall muscle cells. The nerve cord controls the worm s muscles that, in return, cause it to move. Worms use their muscles to crawl through the mud by getting extra traction from bristles that can be seen from the side of their body. Worms will rapidly pull back their head or tail if it is touched. Worms that hold their tail up to the water surface may quickly withdraw it if a shadow suddenly occurs. This is because these worms have tiny simple eyes (called photoreceptor cells) scattered along their tail segments. In water, worms can also swim for short distances by making corkscrew movements with their body (zool.iastate.edu, n.d., n.a.). The Lumbriculus Variegatus, in recent years had been looked over for classroom and laboratory use. However, these worms present great promise for researcher and student friendly laboratory experiments. Black worms have been found to be very helpful and informative in experiments involved with subjects such as: Physiology, Development, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Tracy Smith Identity Comparative Literary Essay: Who Am I? The journey of life does not always lead people to their desired destination; instead it spews them out into a cold reality where they are not satisfied their our own identity. Everyone is faced with decisions in life to make; it is ultimately how individuals think and act in these situations that makes them human and portrays an identity for them. Humans are bound to make mistakes during these critical decisions that affect both relationships and them as individuals; as a result people are regretful about their identity. Sooner or later people arrive at a point in life where they want to reassess themselves, indicating the theme of Rethinking Identity that is associated with search for an identity, which ... Smith incorporates many instants of imagery in order to convey her message, my arm on the rest beside yours, our lights pricking at the fog, tugging us patiently. (Smith, 29,29) This picture is clearly painted in the mind of the reader, further interpretation leads us to believe that Tracy K. Smith is trying to find direction in life and into how she wants to both act and be perceived, as but her path is unclear, just as the fog makes our road hazy. The use of imagery is also beneficial as it gives the reader insight into what Tracy K. Smith thought about her identity at different points in her life, such an instance is given in her childhood, What did it mean to smooth across the casket of your belly? What echoed there, if not me . (Smith, 6,7) This shows that Tracy had thought about her identity in the past, and wondered what it was. It gives the readers a sense of not knowing themselves, this would push anyone into a search or rethinking an identity, the same goes for Tracy. Rachel Joyce strategically uses imagery, He wanted to describe what it feels like to find your boy in a pool of vomit and carry him to bed and mop him up and pretend in the morning you have not seen that. He wanted to say what it was like to be a child and find the man who was your father in the same manner. He wanted to say, What happened? Was it me? Am I the link here? But he didn t. (Joyce, 256) Through Harold s accounts, it becomes undeniable that his son had put him in a frictional position, mentally challenging Harold, and putting the blame on him. His son s actions lead Harold to doubt the way he had brought his son up. Imagery paints a picture to the characters harsh realty in both the novel and poem, which leads us doubtless into why they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. George Washington, The World s Greatest Leader Essay George Washington, The World s Greatest Leader On April 30, 1789, George Washington took his oath of office as the first President of the United States. He knew that not only would he be faced with the challenge of leading a young nation with a plethora of problems, but that his every move and decision would be scrutinized and, hopefully, emulated by his successors. As the first of every thing (SP), in our situation will serve to establish a Precedent, he wrote James Madison, it is devoutly wished on my part, that these precedents may be fixed on true principles. (George Washington). Not only was every decision a precedent, as stated in mountvernon.org: in every turn America as a young country was in peril; every decision was layered with implications, competing passions, political pettiness, danger. (Mount Vernon). Why did George Washington emerge as the most significant leader in the founding of the United States of America, even to the extent of being called the Father of the Country? The facts show us that he led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War over what was at the time the world s most powerful military. Later, as president, he guided the United States in its formative years. His leadership and vision established a foundation that would transform America from 13 loosely connected states into an unequalled economic and military superpower. There have been many effective leaders and some great ones. Washington s perseverance and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Five Precepts in the Context of The Eightfold Path Essay The Five Precepts in the Context of The Eightfold Path Both The Five Precepts and The Eightfold Path are significant elements of the Buddhist religion. The precepts act as a guide for the average everyday lay Buddhist on how to create the least amount of karmic energy possible. It by no means is the way directly to reaching Nirvana. The Eightfold Path however, is known as the way. It is, in itself, the Fourth Noble Truth, and the path to enlightenment. In this examination of the Five Precepts I will endeavour to relate them in context to the different aspects of the Eightfold Path. All the precepts begin with, I abstain from so a definition of this word is relevant. The Oxford Dictionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Enrichment of appreciation for The Fourth Precept which is not to tell lies or speak falsehood would be helped because right understanding would teach an individual the supra mundane understanding of why it wrong to lie. Appreciation for The Fifth Precept, which is to abstain from the use of intoxicants, would be enhanced because it would teach an individual the supra mundane understanding of why it is wrong to use intoxicants. The consequences of all the actions abstained from in the precepts would be fully realised and contemplated to reach a full understanding. Those consequences of such actions would be suffering and bad karma, preventing spiritual development for all people involved. Right Thought would help the enhancement of appreciation for the first precept, which is to abstain from the destruction of life, as it would eliminate negative thoughts of greed and ill will, by over coming sense pleasures and replace it with the cultivation of loving kindness, by practicing acts of amity and concord. • 48. What Is The Similarities Between Flowers For Algernon And... Does knowledge really bring true happiness? In the story Flowers for Algernon Charlie Gordon is a 37 year old, mentally challenged man, who wants nothing more than to be smart. Well he got his chance to be smart and he took it; he was chosen for an operation that could change his life and make him much more intelligent than he actually was. Charlie thought being smart would make him normal but the operation ended up being unsuccessful. He went back to the way he was. In the story The Garden Of Eden, Adam and Eve were chosen to be the first humans. They chose to bite from the tree of knowledge and disobey God. They were punished to live life and then die. Both Charlie Gordon, and Adam and eve resemble each other in many ways. Both Flowers for Algernon and the Garden of Eden are both similar as they both thought biting from the tree of knowledge would bring them intelligence. In the beginning of the story of Flowers for Algernon, Charlie was blessed with happiness, but always desired to be smart. Just like the story the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve did not necessarily wanted to be smart, but wanted to be like God and wanted to experience the knowledge like God had. • 49. The Trouble With Idol Meat 1 Corinthian Analysis Paul instructs the Corinthians in several aspects and teaches them how to live their lives as Christians. The Corinthian church has several serious problems that they either ignore or simply think their sin is ok. Paul holds them accountable in all that they are doing and reprimands them. He illustrates that he will either come to them with a gentle spirit or the rod of discipline. One of the topics discussed is idol meat. But what s especially interesting is that the Corinthians brought it up first rather than Paul. The Corinthians thought it was a serious issue and were genuinely troubled by what the right course of action was. The article I chose to discuss is The Trouble with Idol Meat: 1 Corinthians 8:1 13, by Mike Graves. This article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hermeneutical move can be described as a direct bridge connecting two different time periods. It s one single move that makes the connection between ancient text and 2017. This is actually a very daunting task to accomplish for leaders in the church when they are doing so many different activities throughout the week that is also expected of them. If you are going to bridge the gap between ancient text and today with an honest effort Graves brings up the point that it might be better not to achieve the gap all at once. That is a lot of information to handle right away, and if you want to understand all the details it might be better to take one little step at a time. Nancy Lammers suggests that preachers are more like gymnasts on a high bar, swinging back and forth between text and today throughout the week. The preacher studies the ancient text, all the while mindful of what is going on in the community and the larger world, all the while engaging in ancient text; back and forth our thoughts race throughout the week. (Graves, pg 644) It might be better to fully understand the text if you study it in smaller increments and relate it to today also in smaller increments. Graves is effective in illustrating this point by arguing with common sense. Studying scripture in smaller sections and relating that to our world might be more effective than trying to do it all at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
