The Definition Of Sustainable Development
The simplest definition of sustainable development was given by the World Commission on
Environment and Development: development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Un.org 1987).
Bioenergy production as one of the sustainable production is expected to offer new opportunities to
diversify income and fuel supply sources, to promote employment in rural areas, to develop long term
replacement of fossil fuels, and to reduce GHG emissions, boosting the decarburization of
transportation fuels and increasing the security of energy supply (Mata, Martins Caetano 2010).
The sustainable production of new renewable resource is now becoming a global trend since the first
generation bioenergy, primarily produced from food crops and mostly oil seeds have limitations in
their ability to achieve requirements for bioenergy production, climate change mitigation and
economic growth, therefore cannot sustainably replace fossil based transport fuels. New technology is
developing to produce second generation bioenergy produced from non food feed stocks such as
microalgae, which potentially offer greatest opportunities in the longer term (Greenwell et al. 2010).
Bioenergy from microalgae seems to be the best renewable biofuel that has the potential to completely
displace petroleum derived transport fuels without adversely affecting supply of food and other crop
products, of which large arable land is required, also

Transgender Individuals Serving In The Military Essay
President Trump recently signed and transmitted a directive to the Department of Defense, which
would discontinue the admittance of transgender individuals into the military. The guidance sent to the
Pentagon on Friday, August 25th, 2017, also communicated the President s desire to cut off funding
from tax dollars to pay for troop s sex changes.
When Did the Subject of Transgender Individuals Serving in the Military Come up?
Former President Obama, brought the matter of transgender individuals serving in the military before
leaving office. He set the implementation date for his changes for July 2017, which of course left the
matter in the hands of his successor. Even at the time, Obama s move was widely criticized not only

They all come from across our land. They represents every race, ethnicity and creed, yet they all

Reasons Transgender Troops Could Cause Problems:
Whether or not a person agrees with the transgender lifestyle is of no consequence. There are other
reasons that transgender troops aren t a good idea that has nothing to do with a moral leaning. They
are as follows:
Mental Health Issues: The military has strict restrictions on admittance based upon mental health. For
example, any presence of a mood disorder that requires medication can be disqualifying. Anxiety
issues are also disqualifying for entry into the military. When you consider this alongside the fact that
transgender people are at a greater risk, by two to three fold of developing this type of mental disorder,
according to a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, it makes sense that someone who
had a predisposition already to developing a mental illness wouldn t make a good soldier.
Medical Needs That Take Soldiers Off The Battle Field:
Also, another reason why the military is so picky about enlistments is the fact that they want able
bodied troops who do their job, without fail. Transgender people, who are in the

Brovs Vs Romanovs
On the absolutist side you had the leaders of Spain, France, and Russia all laying claim on their areas,
and they were saying that they had absolute power and answered to no one besides themselves and
God.Then, in England there was constitutional side where there was a leader who was either voted in
or was born in to play. In England, the leader most commonly came from a royal line. The difference
in England was that the king didn t have the absolute power or say. Most events would be put up for a
vote where the parliament would have a say in what happened as they were the financial backers. In
the absolutist monarchy the disadvantage was with the peasants as they got little reward while the
biggest advantage was with the king. Take for example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If that leader can t assure the security than others are needed and it no longer acts as an absolute
government. Louis succeeded in running France successfully for quite a time just as the Romanov
family ruled Russia making it an incredible military power. The Romanovs showcased the success of
an absolutist monarchy by being in control until 1917. In a constitutional monarchy one could say a
great advantage came in that normal people had a voice. In comparison, there is the absolutist
monarch who doesn t take anyone s vote while the constitutional monarch will hear from the
nobleman what one may hear from the peasants. Charles I felt the true strength of parliament when he
needed financial backing, and the backing would only be given when he agreed that parliament would
have a vote in ordinary taxing and unfair imprisonment. The parliament itself was made up of
nobleman as well as landowners and merchants who all wanted a say in that the parliament couldn t be
broken up when Charles didn t like what they were doing. The constitutional monarchy may have a

Prostitution Essay
Prostitution has been a part of our world s culture since the beginning of time, and is the world s oldest

Flatfish Mimicry Research Paper
Mimicry of other toxic species Thaumoctopus mimicus is said to use imperfect mimicry, defined as
the using poor to decent imitations of multiple morphs, rather than strong resemblance to one species
(Hanlon et al., 2008; Huffard et al., 2010). As mentioned in the previous section, they replicate the
coloration of multiple forms of flatfish, but more dramatic morphs are displayed while individuals are
swimming in the mid water range of the water column or while interacting directly with aggressive
species (Norman et al., 2001). Following with the assumption that T. mimicus is a Batesian mimic, the
forms that individual octopus use while swimming higher in the water column are those of well
known toxic or unpalatable species. A variety of dive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2010) was more focused on the evolutionary development of flatfish mimicry and the relation of T.
mimicus to other individuals in the family Octopodidae. To determine the phylogenetic relationships
regarding flatfish mimicry, researchers analyzed the mitochondrial DNA of other individuals found in
what they referred to as the Long Armed Sand Octopus Guild . Researchers factored in a list of
attributes associated with the mimic octopus that are believed to result in the unique behaviors it
displays: dorsoventrally compressed (flatfish swimming), activity during daylight hours, high contrast
coloration. It had been the previous assumption that flatfish swimming was an exaptation of
cephalopod locomotion that the mimic octopus developed to be able to move easier after the evolution
of its impressively long arms (Huffard et al., 2010). However, genetic evidence showed that the
evolution of long arms and flatfish swimming most likely occurred simultaneously in T. mimicus,
rendering the previous assumption null and void (Huffard et al., 2010). Further phylogenetic analysis
suggests that the development of the mimic octopus s iconic high contrast banded coloration
developed as a secondary adaptation in order to further solidify its imitation of toxic flatfishes. The
phylogenetic tree compiled by Huffard et al. (2010) defines the long armed sand octopus guild to
include T. mimicus and its relatives Wunderpus photogenicus, the White V octopus, and Abdopus
acuelatus (Figure 4). The other species placed in this group demonstrate their own variations of
flatfish swimming during daytime foraging hours, however only T. mimicus and W. photogenicus
accompany this swimming style with high contrast coloration patterns while swimming without threat.
The other three species would only demonstrate this ability when

People shouldn t want to move to the suburbs just to have that modernity because it can result to
isolation. In the suburbs if you want to go somewhere you need a car which is just another factor on
why urban sprawl is damaging to our environment and will have long term effects for future
generations. People are adapting to the privacy of having fewer neighbors and no neighborhood in the
suburbs, but it s just pulling us back as social animals it gives us a sense of loneliness being
constrained by isolation because you basically living in the middle of nowhere. Trying to go out is a

Greek Art Power
Introduction The capacity of a society to produce art is, in effect, an exercise of its power. It is through
the presence of affluence that a nation is capable of focusing not solely upon survival, but the
development and proliferation of culture, of which art is a central element. The Greek and Roman
Empires will be explored from this perspective. Herein, the way in which the power of these two
empires was exemplified through the art they were capable of producing will be explored in depth
herein. As will be demonstrated, the substantial cultures each nation developed, in concert with the art
therein, were supported through the power of the nation states of Greece and Rome. For a creative

The Roman conquest of the Greek East resulted in the beginning of a substantial period of
acculturation. At the time, the Roman city state was considered relatively primitive, however, upon
having taken the Greek East, took much from Hellenistic culture. The successful conquest of this
region demonstrated the military and economic superiority of Rome over Greece. The fact that a
younger nation, that of Rome, was capable of conquering a more ancient civilization demonstrated the
rapid military progress realized by the nation. The borrowing of much of the culture that had been
defeated was an oddity from a historical perspective. Generally, when a nation conquered another, the
culture of the victorious nation would eclipse that of the conquered peoples. The reverse was realized
in the Roman conquest over Greece through the superior cultural development of Greece over Rome
at the time in the 2nd century B.C. Prior to the conquest of the Greek East, much of what would
become Roman culture would have been considered to be excess. The cities of Greece, such as
Classical Athens, had a refined high culture, contrasting sharply with the lesser cultured Roman cities.
The high culture of Greece, as discussed above, allowed for the development of a form of art that was
applied to both pottery and the equipment of war, with this equipment failing in the face of Roman
military might and

Effects Of Quebec Sovereignty
The movement of Quebec sovereignty, if it were to be implemented, would have substantial
consequences, not only on Quebec but also on Canada as a whole. For this reason, the movement
should be challenged. It is ironic how much of Quebec advocates for independence, yet the effects
would be economically detrimental. If Quebec succeeded in being granted independence, it would
need to negotiate with the rest of Canada about assuming its share of federal debt (Ragan,
Christopher). This additional debt, which would equate approximately to 154 billion dollars, would be
equal to 92 percent of the province s gross domestic product (Ragan, Christopher). Undoubtedly, this
would shake Quebec s fiscal stability. There is also the possibility of Quebec

Singapore s Rapid Economic Development Essay
4 NEGATIVE IMPACT OF RAPID ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 4.1 AGING POPULATION
Local and foreign labour are deemed essential to Singapore s workforce in order to sustain
competitiveness in economic development. However long standing past policy implication and current
policy taken by the Government to spur economic development, could be argued to affect the labour
market and SMEs in the long run. The past and current policies that might inflicted negative impact to
labour market and SMEs are elaborated as follow: 1) Curbing Singapore growing population during
early economic development is arguably the main factor leading to Singapore lower birth rate. This
argument has been supported by Asher (2008) saying Singapore has experienced below replacement ...

Supply of low skilled worker especially in non PMET market would be scarce especially for domestic
service industries driven by local SMEs. SMEs normally run with small capital would face tougher
business environment. SMEs would not be able to increase their productivity in a shorter time as they
could not leverage on technology. Eventually they would have to compromise their service levels
which in return force the consumers to adjust to uncertainty. The potential growth of SMEs industry
would be hampered which in return impede Singapore s economic growth. According to Dr Chua Hak
Bin, economist at Bank of Merrill Lynch, Singapore s tight foreign labour policy could cost the
economy 1.3% points of growth in 2014 which in the long run degrade Singapore s competitive
landscape with ailing domestic businesses. Besides dampening local business competitiveness, ageing
population and restricted foreign labour may lead to a lower level of innovation. As productivity
growth is associated with higher innovation and improving technology, reports from high income
OECD countries suggests that the median age of the population is negatively correlated with total

The Benefits Of Driving Limitation For Teenagers
Should there be so many driving limitation for young teenagers? Should these laws include limiting
the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers permitted in the car?
Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers more experience before
they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial/necessary for young drivers?
Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from
driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can
have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is receiving
their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom; a newfound
sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers drive themselves
to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over to visit or to pick them
up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your parent s mercy to drive you to
and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new freedom comes responsibility
which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle.
I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready.
Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread their
wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to
transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that independence with great
anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking laws which are there to protect
the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years, especially the ages sixteen twenty which are
considered a rite of passage for many individuals who want to apply for a driver s license and legally
drive the car as a licensed driver. It isn t just teens that are excited to reach that defining age; even
parents are excited and motivated as well to join their kids in this exciting time of their life. Because
of this, young teenage drivers have consistently broken the driving

Information On The Internet Of A Regular Medical Doctor Essay
With the development of technology, the average person has an increased control over their health and
wellbeing especially concerning diet and exercise. Much of the increased control comes from the
plethora of information on the Internet; unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to determine the validity
of data on the web due to lack of regulation. This allows for everyone and anyone to voice their
opinion and even go as far as stating their opinion as fact. This is a significant problem for individuals
going to the Internet for advice on issues that have real consequences. With 15.5% of Canadians not
having a family physician, health themed websites have become increasingly popular (Access to a
regular medical doctor, 2013). Although these cites bring awareness to health issues and illnesses, the
average person may not have the skills to effectively differentiate between fact and fiction. Some cites
are even affiliates of authentic medical facilities, for example, The Mayo Clinic. Yet, some health
themed websites represent no accreditation, medical education, or research based facts. Consequently,
fiction can masquerade as the truth. Vitamins are particularly at risk for being misconstrued, due to the
general availability of vitamins. Micronutrients vitamins are undoubtedly important for the human
body and, like any supplement, they should only be ingested after making an informed decision

Analysis Of Half Of A Yellow Sun
The Novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was first published in 2006 and
follows the interweaved narrative of three individuals living in Eastern Nigeria throughout the 1960s.
The Novel, set within the backdrop of the Biafra secession movement and subsequent civil war,
demonstrates how the daily life of Biafrans was riddled with conflict, turbulence and trauma.
Additionally, the novel depicts how the effects of colonialism remain a strong force in the everyday
lives of the characters as many continue to hold colonial sentiment. Furthermore, through the
character Odenigbo, Adichie highlights how education is an important tool for decolonisation and
allows citizens to create discourse on their own terms. Ultimately, the novel displays African life
within the context of a newly independent and turbulent state. This paper will aim to contextualise and
discuss such themes in Adichie s novel.
Half of a Yellow Sun takes its name from the symbol of Biafra. The novel follows the short lived life
of the nation through three characters. Ugwu a houseboy from a small village who works for an
academic named Odenigbo until he is conscripted into the Biafran army where he experiences the
harsh realities of war. Olanna a UK educated daughter of a wealthy chief and is Odenigbo s wife. She
too is greatly affected by the war and suffers from ongoing trauma after seeing atrocities in Kano,

Children are blunt in their thinking. Adults like to call this bluntness, being a matter of factly , blunt or

Examples Of Similes In The Veldt
Ray Bradbury is focused on multiple craft such as similes to give bigger and better pictures in your
heads, metaphors to give us examples and to give us pictures as well, and foreshadowing to give use
hints on what might come later in the story. He uses these craft moves to emphasize how spoiled the
Hadley children have become. Ray Bradbury uses similes often in his story The Veldt to give us better
images in our heads when reading the book. This is how Bradbury uses one of his similes. The house
lights followed her like a flock of fireflies. (Bradbury 5) Another example is It was empty as a jungle
glade at hot high noon.
(Bradbury 1). Ray Bradbury uses craft move metaphor to give us examples and also to give pictures in
our head similar to similes. He says Children are carpets, they should be stepped on occasionally. And
This bake oven with murder in the heat. (Bradbury 4). Bradbury uses this one to describe how hot the
veldt was and surprising them with the image of death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of foreshadowing that Ray Bradbury uses is when George and Lydia hear screams
coming from the nursery.
Two screams. Two people screaming from downstairs. And then a roar of lions.
Wendy and Peter aren t in their rooms, said his wife. He lay in his bed with his beating heart. No, he
said. They ve broken into the nursery.

Essay On Vitiligo
The term vitiligo is derived from the latin word vitelius meaning calf . The white patches of the
disease resembles the white patches of a spotted calf resulting in the disease being called Vitiligo. This
is a disorder of the skin in which white patches will appear on the skin on different spots of the body.
The disease will happen to people because the melanocytes that make pigment in the skin are
destroyed. The history of Vitiligo dates way back and has many characteristics of the victim, signs,
and symptoms along with methods of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Many scientist believe that
Vitiligo was first discovered in 1500 B.C in Egypt. In The Ebers Papyrus, which is an Egyptian
medical papyrus dating to 1500 B.C, it describes two forms of depigmentation one being
depigmentation that resembled Vitiligo. Many centuries went by and vitiligo continued to be one of
the most important depigmentation ailments worldwide. It would provoke discrimination or
segregation in certain cultures where affected individuals were unable to get jobs or even become
married most probably based upon ancient religious beliefs. Around 1533 Andreas Vesalius called the
attention about the skin having two layers. Several decades later Jean ... Show more content on

patches as well. Also there could be premature whitening or graying of the hair on their scalp,
eyelashes, eyebrows or beard. There are many methods a doctor can do to see if someone has vitiligo
and there are a few treatments that can control the disorder. Vitiligo is harmless and can not usually be

The History of Television Essay
Many Americans today go home and flip on the television, but many do not take the time to think
about the complexity of this great invention that is common to us. Nearly sixty years ago television
barely existed and was not thought to be used as a broad communicator like it is used in today s
generation. Through its starting, stopping, then restarting in the 1940 s, television took off and
expanded greatly in just a few short decades and had great technological breakthroughs to allow it a
widespread range of uses. Though technologies existed in the forties, the great advancement and
possibility that television would have, were not yet explored. Just as the radio, television was a
process being experimented with, worked, and transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

America as a whole was still on edge of this new breakthrough, much like the decades before when
they first experienced the radio. David Sarnoff, under employment at RCA, an invested radio
company who took great interest in the television realm, thought to change the perception of how
many people viewed television. Instead of making it just for informational guidance, he wanted to
make it a part of every day life for Americans. With the help of his company he developed tubes,
lenses, cameras, and other new tools in technology that later led to the great development we have
today. At the end of the decade RCA had more than 3 experimental versions of television sets with
color. By the end of the 40 s the television industry had been well established. In 1947, President
Harry Truman delivered his state of the union address and the baseball World Series were both
televised. There were three major networks in America that had successful lineups. NBC, CBS, and
DuMont were the most successful. Both CBS and NBC networks began a nightly fifteen minute
segment newscast. In 1949, the price of TV sets went down, leading to Americans purchasing 100,00
sets per week. Growing away from their once reservation of television, many Americans were starting
to see the value of television between its use of communication and the use of generating a profit from
it. The high demand for television sets grew to a mandate of television programs in

Make Me Like A Well Watered Garden
MAKE ME LIKE A WELL WATERED GARDEN
It was the spring of 1980. My husband Ken and I had been in our first pastorate in the San Joaquin
Valley of California, known as the nation s Garden Spot , for almost a year. During the summer of 79,
several of our church members had generously shared with us the fruits of their labors in their gardens
and it seemed that everyone had a garden. Thus, when the spring of 1980 arrived, I, who never liked
working in the dirt; I, who would rather wash, starch and iron shirts than dig in a flower bed or weed a
garden, decided we should have a vegetable garden. The former pastor had two BIG ONES so surely,
with the help of my pastor husband, who was reared on the farm, we could have a lovely garden that
would produce enough vegetables to feed us through what Californians refer to as winter. Being the
submissive wife that I was, I asked Ken what I needed to do first. He borrowed a tiller (whatever that
is) and began to prepare the soil for seeding. All the weeds were cleared away, so that nothing was left
but beautiful rich, brown dirt. Then he made these little indentations, called furrows, down through the
freshly plowed dirt and smoothed it all out to perfection. Then I had to do the REAL work I dropped
the seeds in those little furrows. He came along behind me, covered the seeds with dirt, patted it down
just so, and then watered the entire plot. I was so proud! I had planted a garden! About three days later

denominational churches has been increasing greatly and are said to be the second largest group of
Protestants (Moore, 2011). It is said that most that break off and become apart of this fast growing
belief come from a protestant upbringing. The study shows that more people are determining on where
to worship by how they like the nursery, if the worship music is good, is it close to home, rather than I

The youth were in a set of classrooms in another building. We finally made our way to the auditorium,
and there were many people in what looked like the lunchroom for this high school. All sitting around
tables just waiting to go be seated in the main auditorium. The band was still working on the sound
details so we were not allowed to be seated yet. The pastors would walk around and welcome
everyone. As I was told everyone was wearing just what was comfortable nothing to fancy, that make
me feel better. Except for the fact that my younger cousin asked me if I was going skiing after church
because I was like one of the few wearing Jeans and a cardigan. After a few more laughs it was time to
make our way in and find our seats. For me at my church I have my side and few aisles that I mainly
stick to every Sunday, so when we went two rows from the stage I was a little out of my element. As
we walked in the lights were dim and the first thing you see is this huge beautiful painting of Jesus.
Then you see the monitors on each side of the stage and then the band starts to welcome us. One thing
about seating that I thought was different was they had ushers and ropes closing sections off. All the
rows in the front had to be filled before the next section was to be opened. Great way to make sure
you have everyone close to the front. The band leads us

Ischemic Stroke Case Study
Multiple Thresholds for Different Components of the Brain in Ischemic Stroke Perfusion Imaging
Introduction
Stroke
Stroke is a disease of national and global significance in prevalence, impact and cost [1 4].?Stroke is
the third leading cause of death and leading cause adult disability in Australia [3]. Furthermore, the
number of stroke sufferers is expected to increase in the future as the Australian population ages[5].
Stroke can be categorized into ischemic and hemorrhagic subtypes as each has a different mechanism
and long term outcome. Ischemic stroke makes up 87% of all strokes and is caused by an occluded
cerebral blood vessel causing hypoperfusion to areas upstream of the occlusion that result in tissue
damage and dysfunction. Of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mixed common threshold for grey matter and white matter overestimate the perfusion lesion in white
matter, but underestimate the tissue in white matter [71, 89, 90](summary of the threshold for grey
matter and white matter separately from previous studies in figure 7). The variation of absolute
perfusion values is highly individual. Furthermore, the variation of the absolute threshold is high
between these studies (CBV range from1.67 to 2.4 6 ml/100g in grey matter, with a range of 1.19 to
1.7 6 ml/100g in white matter; CBF range from 17.7 34.6 ml/100g/min in grey matter, and a range of
12.3 to 20.9 ml/100g/min in white matter). Relative thresholds are able to delineate perfusion lesion
better than absolute thresholds, due to relative thresholds are more consistent comparing to absolute
thresholds, whereas, absolute thresholds varies individually, as previous research has been
demonstrated [55, 56, 92]. However, these results lack of standardization and validation to define the
optimal thresholds for grey matter and white matter separately. All of these previous studies had a
limited number of patients, ranging from 9 to 21. It is clear, no agreement on multiple optimal
thresholds setting to delineate acute tissue pathophysiology in grey matter and white matter separately

Central Line Infection Report
For over a decade, healthcare associated infections (HAIs) have been at the forefront for improvement
in hospitals across the nation, with central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) being a
frontrunner of HAIs investigated as a major area for improvement. A central line can be either a
central venous catheter (CVC) or a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) and has many uses in
intensive care units, inpatient units, and home health care including administration of antibiotics, TPN,
and chemotherapy treatment. Remarkable improvements over the past decade have been made in
order to shrink the rate of CLABSIs with measures and ongoing research to continue to diminish the
number of central line infections seen in hospitals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the original aim of CLABSI prevention aimed primarily at intensive care units, this new
approach sets its sights on decreasing rates in hospital patients in general acute care settings where a
reported 23,000 CLABSIs occurred in 2009. These statistics guided Teleflex Inc. to create a new FDA
approved PICC in 2011 with both antimicrobial along with antithrombogenic effects. A California
hospital that consistently utilizes evidence based research conducted in house research in 2014 to test
the effectiveness of the new PICC and determine if it would truly decrease infecftion rates. This
testing was done using an intervention group, whom had the antimicrobial PICC inserted, and a
nonintervention group, whom had the standard PICC inserted. Both groups were predominantly equal
in terms of gender, race, age, and medical status and both received equal treatment using the central
line intervention bundle, including scheduled dressing changes every seven days or as needed, access
devices changed every Monday and Thursday, the use of an alcohol impregnated cap on all ports, and
the utilization of a line team. Results were impressive with the intervention group, having a total of
260 patients with a combined 2,124 line days, encountered 1 CLABSIs which equated to an infection
rate of 0.47/1000 line days. The nonintervention group on the other

Religious Thinkers In Moliere s Tartuffe
The Enlightenment period was a revolutionary time in history. Countless thinkers during this time
challenged the traditional ideologies in an effort to bring in a new way of thinking that embraced logic
and reasoning. The majority of these attempted to combat the Catholic Church and its oppressive
influence on the government. Needless to say, religious and aristocratic leaders during this time did
not show very high regard to these thinkers, most were censored. imprisoned, tortured and/or exiled
from their countries. In his play Tartuffe , the French playwright Moliere depicts a character named
Tartuffe that is shown as a highly hypocritical religious person who was taken into the family
residence of a man named Orgon, who is blind to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gluttony is seen near the beginning of act 1.4 where Dorine is sarcastically marveling at how much
Tartuffe ate during his meal: A brace of partridge, and a leg of mutton. In fact, he ate so much, he
popped a button! (Moliere, 63). Secondly, lust is seen throughout the play, as it is mentioned multiple
times that he is lusting after some of the women in the house, including Elmire, Orgon s wife. Elmire
actually uses his insatiable lust against him in act 3.3 in order to expose Tartuffe for who he was to
Orgon. Lastly, wrath and greed are seen shortly after this. When Orgon jumps out from under the table
where he was listening in to the whole affair, he tries to banish Tartuffe out of the house, however,
Tartuffe is greatly angered by this and blackmails Orgon with letter that were given to him allowing
him to inherit Orgon s house and fortune. This also reveals that this was another one of Tartuffe s
intentions all along, and he used his façade to manipulate Orgon throughout this entire affair to get his
fortune.
Lastly, Moliere depicts Tartuffe as sort of a pest or a nuisance. Tartuffe ...is even the canonic example
and the excellent model of the parasite. What is astonishing is that he had come to be the
personification of a hypocrite.

The American Dream Case Analysis
American Dream Case Analysis At 1981, The George A. Hormel Meatpacking Company cut wages
from $10.69 to $8.25 to claim the need to remain competitive. Companies threat workers that they
either close one plant and then open it at lower wage places or exit the business directly. Local unions
like P 9 firstly request that all the workers should stick to $10.69 an hour in ten or fifteen years that we
could call its target point. The company didn t agree, they asserted new member workers the company
recruited would be paid two dollars less for the same work, which is different from the P 9 decision.
Union P 9 refuses any concessions in the negotiation process at first, which proves it is an over
aspiring negotiator. It reveals its reservation point that keeping the $10.69 at least three years too early
because it has absolute confidence to win the negotiation. But actually P 9 Local wrongly assesses the
counterparties interests and BANTA and lead to final negotiation failure unavoidably. Local P 9 union
uses the power based negotiation that is detrimental to ensure to get its interests in this negotiation.
Local P 9 with strong leadership skills who are able to effectively organizes and fights for their
members. However, denying accepting any compromise position causes the cooperation foundational
support from national leaders UFCW and their own member s disappearance ultimately. Specifically,
losing the endorsement from the local leaders and UFCW will force Union P 9 s

  • 2. The Definition Of Sustainable Development The simplest definition of sustainable development was given by the World Commission on Environment and Development: development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Un.org 1987). Bioenergy production as one of the sustainable production is expected to offer new opportunities to diversify income and fuel supply sources, to promote employment in rural areas, to develop long term replacement of fossil fuels, and to reduce GHG emissions, boosting the decarburization of transportation fuels and increasing the security of energy supply (Mata, Martins Caetano 2010). The sustainable production of new renewable resource is now becoming a global trend since the first generation bioenergy, primarily produced from food crops and mostly oil seeds have limitations in their ability to achieve requirements for bioenergy production, climate change mitigation and economic growth, therefore cannot sustainably replace fossil based transport fuels. New technology is developing to produce second generation bioenergy produced from non food feed stocks such as microalgae, which potentially offer greatest opportunities in the longer term (Greenwell et al. 2010). Bioenergy from microalgae seems to be the best renewable biofuel that has the potential to completely displace petroleum derived transport fuels without adversely affecting supply of food and other crop products, of which large arable land is required, also ... • 4. Transgender Individuals Serving In The Military Essay President Trump recently signed and transmitted a directive to the Department of Defense, which would discontinue the admittance of transgender individuals into the military. The guidance sent to the Pentagon on Friday, August 25th, 2017, also communicated the President s desire to cut off funding from tax dollars to pay for troop s sex changes. When Did the Subject of Transgender Individuals Serving in the Military Come up? Former President Obama, brought the matter of transgender individuals serving in the military before leaving office. He set the implementation date for his changes for July 2017, which of course left the matter in the hands of his successor. They represents every race, ethnicity and creed, yet they all pledge the same oath, to fight for the same cause and operate as one team, with one shared sense of purpose. Reasons Transgender Troops Could Cause Problems: Whether or not a person agrees with the transgender lifestyle is of no consequence. There are other reasons that transgender troops aren t a good idea that has nothing to do with a moral leaning. They are as follows: Mental Health Issues: The military has strict restrictions on admittance based upon mental health. For example, any presence of a mood disorder that requires medication can be disqualifying. Anxiety issues are also disqualifying for entry into the military. When you consider this alongside the fact that transgender people are at a greater risk, by two to three fold of developing this type of mental disorder, according to a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, it makes sense that someone who had a predisposition already to developing a mental illness wouldn t make a good soldier. Medical Needs That Take Soldiers Off The Battle Field: Also, another reason why the military is so picky about enlistments is the fact that they want able bodied troops who do their job, without fail. Brovs Vs Romanovs On the absolutist side you had the leaders of Spain, France, and Russia all laying claim on their areas, and they were saying that they had absolute power and answered to no one besides themselves and God.Then, in England there was constitutional side where there was a leader who was either voted in or was born in to play. In England, the leader most commonly came from a royal line. The difference in England was that the king didn t have the absolute power or say. Most events would be put up for a vote where the parliament would have a say in what happened as they were the financial backers. Louis succeeded in running France successfully for quite a time just as the Romanov family ruled Russia making it an incredible military power. The Romanovs showcased the success of an absolutist monarchy by being in control until 1917. In a constitutional monarchy one could say a great advantage came in that normal people had a voice. In comparison, there is the absolutist monarch who doesn t take anyone s vote while the constitutional monarch will hear from the nobleman what one may hear from the peasants. Charles I felt the true strength of parliament when he needed financial backing, and the backing would only be given when he agreed that parliament would have a vote in ordinary taxing and unfair imprisonment. The parliament itself was made up of nobleman as well as landowners and merchants who all wanted a say in that the parliament couldn t be broken up when Charles didn t like what they were doing. • 9. Flatfish Mimicry Research Paper Mimicry of other toxic species Thaumoctopus mimicus is said to use imperfect mimicry, defined as the using poor to decent imitations of multiple morphs, rather than strong resemblance to one species (Hanlon et al., 2008; Huffard et al., 2010). As mentioned in the previous section, they replicate the coloration of multiple forms of flatfish, but more dramatic morphs are displayed while individuals are swimming in the mid water range of the water column or while interacting directly with aggressive species (Norman et al., 2001). Following with the assumption that T. mimicus is a Batesian mimic, the forms that individual octopus use while swimming higher in the water column are those of well known toxic or unpalatable species. (2010) was more focused on the evolutionary development of flatfish mimicry and the relation of T. mimicus to other individuals in the family Octopodidae. To determine the phylogenetic relationships regarding flatfish mimicry, researchers analyzed the mitochondrial DNA of other individuals found in what they referred to as the Long Armed Sand Octopus Guild . Researchers factored in a list of attributes associated with the mimic octopus that are believed to result in the unique behaviors it displays: dorsoventrally compressed (flatfish swimming), activity during daylight hours, high contrast coloration. It had been the previous assumption that flatfish swimming was an exaptation of cephalopod locomotion that the mimic octopus developed to be able to move easier after the evolution of its impressively long arms (Huffard et al., 2010). However, genetic evidence showed that the evolution of long arms and flatfish swimming most likely occurred simultaneously in T. mimicus, rendering the previous assumption null and void (Huffard et al., 2010). Further phylogenetic analysis suggests that the development of the mimic octopus s iconic high contrast banded coloration developed as a secondary adaptation in order to further solidify its imitation of toxic flatfishes. The phylogenetic tree compiled by Huffard et al. (2010) defines the long armed sand octopus guild to include T. mimicus and its relatives Wunderpus photogenicus, the White V octopus, and Abdopus acuelatus (Figure 4). The other species placed in this group demonstrate their own variations of flatfish swimming during daytime foraging hours, however only T. mimicus and W. photogenicus accompany this swimming style with high contrast coloration patterns while swimming without threat. It is through the presence of affluence that a nation is capable of focusing not solely upon survival, but the development and proliferation of culture, of which art is a central element. The Greek and Roman Empires will be explored from this perspective. Herein, the way in which the power of these two empires was exemplified through the art they were capable of producing will be explored in depth herein. As will be demonstrated, the substantial cultures each nation developed, in concert with the art therein, were supported through the power of the nation states of Greece and Rome. The Roman conquest of the Greek East resulted in the beginning of a substantial period of acculturation. At the time, the Roman city state was considered relatively primitive, however, upon having taken the Greek East, took much from Hellenistic culture. The successful conquest of this region demonstrated the military and economic superiority of Rome over Greece. The fact that a younger nation, that of Rome, was capable of conquering a more ancient civilization demonstrated the rapid military progress realized by the nation. The borrowing of much of the culture that had been defeated was an oddity from a historical perspective. Generally, when a nation conquered another, the culture of the victorious nation would eclipse that of the conquered peoples. The reverse was realized in the Roman conquest over Greece through the superior cultural development of Greece over Rome at the time in the 2nd century B.C. Prior to the conquest of the Greek East, much of what would become Roman culture would have been considered to be excess. The cities of Greece, such as Classical Athens, had a refined high culture, contrasting sharply with the lesser cultured Roman cities. The high culture of Greece, as discussed above, allowed for the development of a form of art that was applied to both pottery and the equipment of war, with this equipment failing in the face of Roman military might and ... For this reason, the movement should be challenged. It is ironic how much of Quebec advocates for independence, yet the effects would be economically detrimental. If Quebec succeeded in being granted independence, it would need to negotiate with the rest of Canada about assuming its share of federal debt (Ragan, Christopher). This additional debt, which would equate approximately to 154 billion dollars, would be equal to 92 percent of the province s gross domestic product (Ragan, Christopher). The past and current policies that might inflicted negative impact to labour market and SMEs are elaborated as follow: 1) Curbing Singapore growing population during early economic development is arguably the main factor leading to Singapore lower birth rate. The potential growth of SMEs industry would be hampered which in return impede Singapore s economic growth. According to Dr Chua Hak Bin, economist at Bank of Merrill Lynch, Singapore s tight foreign labour policy could cost the economy 1.3% points of growth in 2014 which in the long run degrade Singapore s competitive landscape with ailing domestic businesses. Besides dampening local business competitiveness, ageing population and restricted foreign labour may lead to a lower level of innovation. As productivity growth is associated with higher innovation and improving technology, reports from high income OECD countries suggests that the median age of the population is negatively correlated with total factor productivity (OECD, 2013). 4.2 BRAIN DRAIN Past policy of tailoring education to manpower has contributed its fair share to Singapore s economic development. • 15. The Benefits Of Driving Limitation For Teenagers Should there be so many driving limitation for young teenagers? Should these laws include limiting the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers permitted in the car? Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers more experience before they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial/necessary for young drivers? Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is receiving their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom; a newfound sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers drive themselves to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over to visit or to pick them up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your parent s mercy to drive you to and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new freedom comes responsibility which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle. I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready. Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread their wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that independence with great anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking laws which are there to protect the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years, especially the ages sixteen twenty which are considered a rite of passage for many individuals who want to apply for a driver s license and legally drive the car as a licensed driver. It isn t just teens that are excited to reach that defining age; even parents are excited and motivated as well to join their kids in this exciting time of their life. Because of this, young teenage drivers have consistently broken the driving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Information On The Internet Of A Regular Medical Doctor Essay With the development of technology, the average person has an increased control over their health and wellbeing especially concerning diet and exercise. Much of the increased control comes from the plethora of information on the Internet; unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to determine the validity of data on the web due to lack of regulation. This allows for everyone and anyone to voice their opinion and even go as far as stating their opinion as fact. This is a significant problem for individuals going to the Internet for advice on issues that have real consequences. With 15.5% of Canadians not having a family physician, health themed websites have become increasingly popular (Access to a regular medical doctor, 2013). Although these cites bring awareness to health issues and illnesses, the average person may not have the skills to effectively differentiate between fact and fiction. Some cites are even affiliates of authentic medical facilities, for example, The Mayo Clinic. Yet, some health themed websites represent no accreditation, medical education, or research based facts. Consequently, fiction can masquerade as the truth. Vitamins are particularly at risk for being misconstrued, due to the general availability of vitamins. Micronutrients vitamins are undoubtedly important for the human body and, like any supplement, they should only be ingested after making an informed decision (Campbell). • 17. Analysis Of Half Of A Yellow Sun The Novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was first published in 2006 and follows the interweaved narrative of three individuals living in Eastern Nigeria throughout the 1960s. The Novel, set within the backdrop of the Biafra secession movement and subsequent civil war, demonstrates how the daily life of Biafrans was riddled with conflict, turbulence and trauma. Additionally, the novel depicts how the effects of colonialism remain a strong force in the everyday lives of the characters as many continue to hold colonial sentiment. Furthermore, through the character Odenigbo, Adichie highlights how education is an important tool for decolonisation and allows citizens to create discourse on their own terms. Ultimately, the novel displays African life within the context of a newly independent and turbulent state. This paper will aim to contextualise and discuss such themes in Adichie s novel. Half of a Yellow Sun takes its name from the symbol of Biafra. The novel follows the short lived life of the nation through three characters. Ugwu a houseboy from a small village who works for an academic named Odenigbo until he is conscripted into the Biafran army where he experiences the harsh realities of war. Nearly sixty years ago television barely existed and was not thought to be used as a broad communicator like it is used in today s generation. Through its starting, stopping, then restarting in the 1940 s, television took off and expanded greatly in just a few short decades and had great technological breakthroughs to allow it a widespread range of uses. David Sarnoff, under employment at RCA, an invested radio company who took great interest in the television realm, thought to change the perception of how many people viewed television. Instead of making it just for informational guidance, he wanted to make it a part of every day life for Americans. With the help of his company he developed tubes, lenses, cameras, and other new tools in technology that later led to the great development we have today. At the end of the decade RCA had more than 3 experimental versions of television sets with color. By the end of the 40 s the television industry had been well established. In 1947, President Harry Truman delivered his state of the union address and the baseball World Series were both televised. There were three major networks in America that had successful lineups. NBC, CBS, and DuMont were the most successful. Both CBS and NBC networks began a nightly fifteen minute segment newscast. In 1949, the price of TV sets went down, leading to Americans purchasing 100,00 sets per week. • 24. Make Me Like A Well Watered Garden MAKE ME LIKE A WELL WATERED GARDEN It was the spring of 1980. My husband Ken and I had been in our first pastorate in the San Joaquin Valley of California, known as the nation s Garden Spot , for almost a year. During the summer of 79, several of our church members had generously shared with us the fruits of their labors in their gardens and it seemed that everyone had a garden. Thus, when the spring of 1980 arrived, I, who never liked working in the dirt; I, who would rather wash, starch and iron shirts than dig in a flower bed or weed a garden, decided we should have a vegetable garden. The former pastor had two BIG ONES so surely, with the help of my pastor husband, who was reared on the farm, we could have a lovely garden that would produce enough vegetables to feed us through what Californians refer to as winter. Being the submissive wife that I was, I asked Ken what I needed to do first. He borrowed a tiller (whatever that is) and began to prepare the soil for seeding. All the weeds were cleared away, so that nothing was left but beautiful rich, brown dirt. Then he made these little indentations, called furrows, down through the freshly plowed dirt and smoothed it all out to perfection. Then I had to do the REAL work I dropped the seeds in those little furrows. He came along behind me, covered the seeds with dirt, patted it down just so, and then watered the entire plot.
