Sloss Furnace Research Paper
Sloss Furnace is haunted by one of the most evil, murderous ghosts of all time. The Birmingham
Police have over 100 recorded reports of unexplainable activity that has been experienced by people
while at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama over the years. And
those are just the ones that have been reported. Between the years of 1882 to 1971 Sloss Furnace, and
its employees, were tasked with turning coal and ore into steel. That steel went on to shape the
industrial revolution, from New York skyscrapers, to bridges in the south, Sloss Furnace had a hand in
it all. Sloss was known as an inhumanly terrible place to work, and the worst of the worst was the
Graveyard Shift foreman, James Slag Wormwood. During the stifling summer months, temperatures
throughout the plant would reach more than 120 degrees. Lack of sleep, the heat, and low visibility
made working the furnace literally a living hell and only the poorest of workers, desperate for
employment, would work it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his reign, 47 workers lost their lives, ten times more than any other shift in the history of the
furnace. Countless others lost their ability to work due to accidents, mishaps, and even a recorded
explosion in the small blowing engine house in 1888 that left 6 workers burned blind. There were no
breaks, there were no holidays, there was only the furnace.and its constant hunger for more and more

Jeannette Walls s Childhood
It s impossible to protect your kids against disappointment in life (Nicholas Sparks). Author, Jeannette
Walls, had a tough childhood mainly because of her parents decisions. She turned it around to become
a successful writer. She wrote The Glass Castle. A New York Times bestseller, that depicts her
childhood to adulthood, and tells the circumstances that the Walls parents put their children in.
Although Jeannette s parents loved their children as much as they were capable of loving them, two
damaging characteristics of their parenting style, irresponsibility and shiftlessness, almost destroyed
the family and certainly cast a shadow over their childhood. There are many reasons why the Walls
parents were less than adequate, they were self centered

Market Failure Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Market failure appears when there is a failure in allocation of goods and services. When the market is
unsuccessful, the government is called to intervene and correct the failure. Over the years, government
participation in the pharmaceutical market has been more wide ranging than any other good or service.
With the government s ability to regulate, mandate, inform, finance and provide, their intervention to
overcome market failure can be beneficial for the economy. Market failure plays a significant role in
today s economy.
Pharmaceutical industries are a prime example. There are several possible reasons as to why and how
market failures might lead to such high prices for drugs. Information asymmetry is the most critical
form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, patients often have less knowledge than the prescriber does about the appropriateness of
the drug, where it can be very misinforming for the consumer. Lastly, drug efficacy is a problem in all
contexts. Since stakeholders are likely, less informed than manufacturers it causes both the consumer
and prescriber to depend on the manufacturer for information of the effectiveness of the drug (Bennett,
Quick, Velasquez, 2016).
Externalities, also viewed as the negative spillover effect, plays a role in market failures associated
with pharmaceuticals. In the pharmaceutical sector, externalities take place when consumers affect the
utilization of a drug s value. Externalities typically stop consumers from receiving cheaper costs for
drugs because they normally don t carry the complete costs of drug expenses. Negative externalities
induce a cycle of ongoing sales, more profits and more subsidies. Thus, if externalities are left to be
controlled by a market then the implications will lead to high pricing on products.
Recently, there had been a controversy over the rise in pharmaceutical costs involving the EpiPen in
the United States. The EpiPen, also known as adrenaline/epinephrine, is a widely used injection that is
used to treat allergic reactions. This generic drug has been available for many years. The EpiPen
controversy is a prime example of how monopoly

The Issue Of Public Health
Summary
The term Public Health describes how a society strives to keep the conditions of the public to be
healthy to all individuals. The healthcare industry continues to change for the good of society,
although the pedagogy in the universities that teaches our future healthcare professionals are lagging
in their changes to the curriculum. There is a need to change our public health major to a population
health major. Population health is not just policies and programs to keep public society healthy, it is an
approach that looks at all the factors that can influence healthy individuals over the course of their
lives. There are many benefits to this change. Students of University of Arkansas will benefit because
this change will give our undergraduates the advantage to compete for the best healthcare careers in
the industry. The University benefits are the promise of attracting more healthcare degree sought
students and the potential to work together with healthcare businesses to shape the curriculum so that
it is exactly what is needed. This change will cost the university professor s time and research but the
future outcome is notably leading the healthcare education in the right direction.
Introduction
The Public Health s program of study should be expanded because the landscape of healthcare has
changed. My proposal is to change the curriculum and title to Population Health to better equip
students with the knowledge about current issues facing health within the

How Did Thurgood Marshall Influence Civil Rights
What if segregation was a part of our everyday lives, as common as it is to brush one s teeth. Thanks
to Thurgood Marshall, today s generation will never know the horrors of segregation and extreme
racism. Thurgood Marshall was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, the court s first African
American justice. Marshall experienced segregation growing up, going to exclusively black schools.
When applying to a school that was below his league yet being rejected because of his color, he made
it his mission to seek civil rights. he guided the litigation that destroyed Jim Crow segregation and
crafted a distinctive jurisprudence marked by uncompromising liberalism, unusual attentiveness to
practical considerations beyond the formalities of law, and an indefatigable willingness to dissent (
THURGOOD MARSHALL 1). Thurgood Marshall heavily influenced civil rights through his
involvement in the NAACP and rulings during his time in the Supreme Court. Thurgood Marshall was

Oryx And Crake Comparison
Worlds that are similar; Oryx and Crake and 50 Shades of Grey
In Oryx and Crake, the fiction is based on a speculative idea in which the world is based on the
assumption of the future our past events have led up to.
The author, Margaret Atwood touches on a number of complex problems such as human sexuality and
the fact that it is quite critical in the center of the problems of society. In her body of works, she also
writes about animal extinction, biotechnology, climate changes, and slavery in which are all topics that
modern society is facing as well.
In one of her famous fictions, Oryx and Crake, the purpose is not to imagine a world of an unrealistic
future like science fictions. But instead is a speculative fiction in which the novel ... Show more

These men who have exploited their accomplishments even with her as a sexual belonging signify
their constant control of the world in which the men play roles of gods.
According to Gender as a Social Construct in Margaret Atwood s Oryx and Crake , the author says,
Atwood explains that the gender construction endows all the power and authority in the hands of
patriarchy. This gendered society segregates women from all the major spheres, subordinating and
marginalizing them to the areas which are pre labeled as feminine.
In 50 Shades of Grey, there lies a great contrast of viewers who love it or hate it. The movie s purpose
is not intentionally to shine light on such crude acts but to show an alternate way of love and lust. The
false utopia in this world focuses on the main protagonist s sexual pleasure. The movie considers their
relationship of patriarchy as just another fetish or form of

Twelve Habits Of Christian Thought
The Apostle Paul says that we should rejoice always (Phil. 4:4). The basis of our attitude is not on our
circumstances but on the character of God. Philippians 4: 8 9, tells us what we should have our minds
set on. It will take verbal and mental discipline as Christians to develop the characteristics of a healing
church.
Six Habits of Christian Thought
The author lists the six commandments Paul states that form the habit of Christian thought. (1) Think
about those things. Let go of the negatives and have Christ like thoughts. (2) Think with discernment.
Think on Jesus the Truth not on facts alone. Not all facts are true. (3) Think honorable thoughts. These
thoughts dwell on praise, worship, and thanksgiving. We are God s workmanship to which we owe
only praise and thanksgiving. (4) Think just thoughts. All our thoughts should be without prejudice
and bigotry. We are to think rightly and justly about all situations, giving everyone the same chance in
our consideration of them. (p. 165) (5) Think untainted thoughts. Think thoughts from the Spirit, not
mindless, vain meditation. (6) Have an eye for the beauty around you. Life is more than facts and
statistics. There is beauty and artistic value in creation. We are to marvel at God s handiwork. We are
to think like Jesus thought, which is different from the world. It takes discipline to become a healing
church.

Emile Durkheim Suicide
In his research paper Suicide: a study of sociology , Emile Durkheim primarily argues that suicide is
not necessarily an act of individualisation but rather it s an act that is influenced by one s position in
his or her society. Each society, according to Durkheim, has its definite quota of suicide. Durkheim
provides understanding of the societal conditions that contribute to increased rates of suicide within
various types of cultural and religious groups. One condition which contributes to the increased
suicide rates in the society is integration, which is the sense that an individual is part of a society.
According to Durkheim, individuals who are either extremely under integrated into society or over
integrated into society are the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The believe of suicide bombers that their contribution to their group by killing others or taking their
own lives will bring change into the society could be viewed as an egoistic act. However, their acts of
committing those actions as a part of a group is an act of altruism. Since an individual s tie with his or
her society is broken, he or she starts to believe that they are free from social expectations and they are
free to act against the society in order to reform it. Egoistic beliefs made the suicide bombers feel as
they are isolated from their own society and they don t hesitate to take a action for themselves.
Therefore, deciding to become a suicide bomber is part of egoistic belief where committing the attack
to please a group deals with the altruistic aspect of suicide bombing. Accordingly, the idea of suicide
bombing can be categorized as both egoistic and altruistic suicide. There were many times when the
egoistic and altruistic aspect of suicide overlapped ideas of one another. Therefore, it s time to re
explore Durkheim s idea of egoistic and altruistic suicide in order to explore more of their similarities.
Suicide bombing is an example of how these two form of suicides shares many common concepts.
Consequently, suicide bombing suggests us to re evaluate Durkheim s concept of egoistic and

Paintings of the Old Masters
Look at the color red, a color known for its beauty and while it may not be in everybody s catalogue of
beauty, it cannot be denied of its intensity. If one is showed a stunning painting of a red rose, one of
the descriptions that could apply to that paining is beauty: seeing such an elegant spectacle of nature
being emulated on paper can be quite stimulating. Another description that could be associated with a
red rose is passion, as such a color may leave one energized and spontaneous; however how would
one respond if they were told that the painting of the rose was painted with blood. Now a painting that
once may have suggested the aspects of beauty and passion, may stir descriptions such as fear,
aggression, danger and yet passion as well; therefore, bringing one to the understanding that Every
image embodies a way of seeing (Berger, 142). This is why paintings should be viewed as a spectacle;
hence, this brings me to the painting I was presented with by John Berger in his book Ways of seeing
in which he argues how through reproduction the modern context of the Old Masters paintings severed
them from what they meant in the time of their production. The painting that demanded my attention
was Wheatfield with Crows by Van Gogh, something that may seem simple at first but is rich with
emotion. Through such a work of art I ve come to understand that paintings are a medium where an
artist can illustrate his words/feelings and express

How Temperature Affects the Degeneration of Proteins in...
Aim: to find out how different temperature affects the protein levels within Fish food (flakes) stuffs.
1. Introduction
1.1. Fish food
Like humans do, fish also need proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals unfortunately
there are not many food which contain all the necessities2. This is tackled by feeding fish a
combination of flake, frozen and fresh food. Frozen food can cause problems for fish if the food is not
defrosted thoroughly as their intestinal lining is very sensitive and does not tolerate cold food very
well. Once the food is thawed properly it can be kept for two days refrigerated but then must throw
away. Fresh food which is given to fish consist of plants, animals, microorganisms, meats and

H1 : Hotter and colder environments will cause the fish flake to have less proteins in than the normal
room temperature.
Ho : The different temperature will have no effect on the fish flake food.
2. Method
First of all the solution Copper Sulphate (CuSO4) was made into a solution using 2.49g CuSO4 in
100ml of water.
Then 0.52g of the fish flakes was weighed out and placed into the pestle mortar and grinded up, which
10ml of distilled water was then added to make a solution. Once the solution was made it was then
divided equally into five centrifuge tubes and spun for 5 minutes each time in the centrifuge, (the 5th
tube was balanced out in the centrifuge by a tube filled with water).
From each centrifuge tube 1ml was placed into separate test tubes, and then 1ml of CuSO4 and
Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) which gives copper hydroxide (Cu(OH)2), if the colour changed to
blue/violet then proteins where present within the solution.
A cuvette was filled with distilled water and place within the colorimeter to calibrate it before the
solutions were placed in if there was a colour change. If a colour change was present (blue/violet
protein is present) the solutions was then transferred into separate cuvettes and placed in the
colorimeter. The colorimeter was set at 580nm and then the readings from it were recorded within a
table.

The osprey cam viewers were originally slightly distressed about the food situation in the nest because
the mother didn t appear to be sharing the food with her offspring as much as the viewers felt was
normal. The situation escalated when the mother started attacking her three babies; she was pecking at
their heads and eyes while also using her talons to claw them. Over time, the babies became so hungry
that they started attacking each other. At one point, a nestling got his talon caught in a balloon strings
that was in the nest and was no more vulnerable to the mother s attacks. Jeffrey Brodeur was the

viewers led him to consult some osprey experts. The experts that Jeffrey conferred with stated that

People need to be aware of what happens in nature and learn that removing wildlife from their homes
is never the answer. People also need to learn that having anthropocentric views can be very harmful.
For example, seeing a dog show its teeth at you could be taken as a smile, which would lead to you
approach the animal, when it is a fear grimace, which should tell you to stop what you re doing and
slowly back away. Although the osprey situation isn t a matter of personal safety, it is still a good
opportunity to help spread the word. From what I know about Dr. Chapman, she would provide
intelligent and kind words back to those osprey cam viewers who are begging the ospreys to be

removing the ospreys from the wild would be much worse for the nestlings. In response to Jeffrey

military burden at a greater rate than smaller GCC members. In accordance with the logic of collective

of the NATO on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) could help the Gulf States play a larger role in
their region.
There is serious concern for the entire world about the Arabian Gulf security. Iran s expanding
ambition rose to new heights when its nuclear ambitions were revealed to the world. In fact, Iran s
nuclear ambition has alerted regional and international concerns about the future stability and security.
This paper is important because it will contribute to the existing literature of collective action studies
in general and the Arabian Gulf in particular. This study would provide valuable information to many
stakeholders. First, this research will give scientific predictors of future procedures that should be
taken to improve the regional security. It will also shed light on identifying the type of course of action
to help identify the best policies in dealing with the security dilemma.

system theory
One of the biggest breakthroughs in how we understand and guide change in organizations is systems
theory and systems thinking. There are two main definitions of a system, an implicit and an explicit
phrase, with the explicit phrase being used in system thinking by organizations. The definition refers
to a system as being a collection of highly integrated parts or subsystems that attain a specific goal,
through inputs that are processed into precise outputs. And thus if a part of this highly linked system is
changed, the overall system is also changed. This is what s meant by a system being systemic, i.e.
relating and affecting the system as a whole. System complexity:

the philosophies of Bunge, Bahm and Laszlo); mathematical modelling and information theory (e.g.
the work of Mesarovic and Klir); and practical applications. Mathematical systems theory arose from
the development of isomorphism between the models of electrical circuits and other systems.
Applications include engineering, computing, ecology, management, and family psychotherapy.
Systems analysis, developed independently of systems theory, applies systems principles to aid a
decision maker with problems of identifying, reconstructing, optimizing, and controlling a system
(usually a socio technical organization), while taking into account multiple objectives, constraints and
resources. It aims to specify possible courses of action, together with their risks, costs and benefits.
Systems theory is closely connected to cybernetics, and also to system dynamics, which models
changes in a network of coupled variables
Depending upon the problem situation, the system needs to be conceptualized using either the
mechanistic, organismic, cultural or political metaphors (Flood and Jackson, 1991) or a combination
of these. Thus, a theory of physical systems can help us in developing a mechanistic view of the
systems to begin with, which can then be developed further by using other approaches along with the
physical system theory.
According to Etizioni (1968), a physical system theory is easy to understand. The world is usually

Don Quixote Essay
Don Quixote is a classic novel although now a days many may not be entirely familiar with it. The
story of Don Quixote is filled with legendary actions that have survived our native tough. The phrase
and labels that tell the title come from someone deeply impractical. Don Quixote at the age of fifty has
not quite had what one would call a wild life, so far. He has never been married and still lives at home.
He has however found his calling in life, the profession of knighthood: he was spurred on by the
conviction that the world needed his immediate presence... (Book 1, Part 2). So the tales begin.

Marathon running has been associated with a number of physiological lapses that occurs when the
body and the organs can no longer sustain itself. Specifically ultra marathon running especially in the

NO plays a vital role within the coronary and the peripheral hemodynamic by increasing the

therefore reduces the physiological responses to exercise. Specifically NO has been reported to assist
in the thermoregulation system, by increasing the blood flow and muscle contractibility and

Assyrian Empire Research Paper
The Assyrian Empire was revolutionized as one of the most powerful forces of the ancient world,
lasted about 1,875 years before its downfall began, and went through many heights and lows in its
time. However, why did Assyria really succeed for as long as it did? Why did it reach a downfall
period and essentially fail around 609 BC? Over this essay, it will be explained in more detail on how
the Assyrian Empire started, how it evolved over time, and why eventually this evolution inevitably
led to their failure.
Assyria started around the 3rd millennium BCE, but was really acceptably founded around 1900 BCE,
by King Erishum I, who placed the temple of Ashur on the site, reinforcing the land essentially.

into areas previously held by Mitanni. The Hittites, seeing this, stuck back, but were unable to defeat
them, and king Ashur Urballit I came to defeat the remaining Mitanni forces under Hittite
commanders. The Assyrians took huge chunks of the land previously owned by the Mitanni, and later

general populace of Mitanni were either planned to be deported safely or assimilated into the growing
empire of Assyria. Those who resisted were killed and sold into slavery. As Assyrians had successfully
taken control over former Mitanni, it was a very prosperous period of the empire. This prosperity
increased when Assyrian sacked Babylon and took control over it. However, about twenty years later
in 1200 BC, with the death of Tiglath Pileser, Assyrians hit a short downfall period, but were

Quentin In John Green s Paper Towns
Everyone in the world has a tendency to push their ideals onto other people. This point is illustrated
throughout Paper Towns by John Green as main character Quentin searches for his childhood friend
Margo Roth Spiegelman. Throughout the novel, he has several life changing revelations on both
himself and those around him. The characterization and misconceptions between main characters
Margo and Quentin represent the deeper ideal that a person s true self is hidden from the world. In the

demonstrations of Margo s otherness. In spite of this, as the novel progresses and the characters begin

not noticed before. Conversely, Margo is dissected further, as her character and being is picked apart

Alienation in As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner Essay
William Faulkner is an American novelist whose major work is As I Lay Dying. Faulkner gave each of
his characters traits that are expressed throughout the story. The reader is introduced to each character
through their detailed and descriptive character traits. We are able to delve into the character s mind
and see their personal and distinct traits. He did not tell us anything about the characters, but he takes
us into the mind of each character to analyze what we see there. Even though these characters lead
parallel lives we can see the total alienation and breakdown of the relationships between each other.
Darl, Jewel, and Anse possess character traits that contribute to or cause the breakdown of their
relationship.

He even goes so far as to save money when he puts cement on Cash s broken leg instead of paying for
a doctor to put a cast on it. Also, to avoid being sued by Gillespie for Darl setting fire to his barn he
has Darl sent to a mental asylum in Jackson. Furthermore, Faulkner demonstrates Anse s selfishness
with him not realizing that Jewel is the product of Addie s affair. Anse is so self absorbed that he has
no clue that Addie had an affair or that Jewel is not is son. Anse is so useless and selfish he is almost
dismissed as an individual. Anse views the flood and the fire as more crosses to bear before he can get
his new teeth. He has no concern or regard with what the journey is doing to his children. His
selfishness is also expressed when he says, I don t, won t begrudge her. (Faulkner 56). Anse forgives
Addie for all the problems that she caused throughout the journey this moreover demonstrates his
selfishness. Anse is constantly indebted to others, but he refuses to recognize his obligation and
excuses himself with his comment, I aint beholden. (Faulkner 46). One would think that the death of
his wife would bring him closer to his children but it does not. He only has one reason to complete the
journey and that is to get his new teeth. Although, Anse is the most selfish he is the only one who
succeeds in the novel. Among other things we have the problem of how to view Anse and the fact that
he is triumphant at the end, the only character who gained

Sinauf is half wolf and half man. They also had Shamans that could use a healing power obtained

people also practice ceremonies like the Bear Dance and Sun Dance. The Bear Dance was held in the
Spring at the same time that the Bear was out of hibernation. The dance was done in a large brush
enclosure. It lasted about ten days, and it propitiated bears to increase hunting. The Sun Dance was
borrowed from the Plains Tribes. The dance is held in July and it lasted for four days and nights. The
Sun Dance was held to increase community esteem and welfare, it was also symptomatic of the
feelings of despair that they were feeling. They danced in hope for a vision or cure for the sick. The

Using A Six Sigma Dmaic Problem Solving Methodology Essay
This case study deals with improving the process and efficiency of the operating room in a hospital.
The problem was resolved using a Six Sigma DMAIC problem solving methodology. The basic
equation of Six Sigma, Y = f(x), defines the relationship between a dependent variable Y or the
outcome of a process and a set of independent variables x or possible causes which affect the outcome.
The Company Over the past decade, surgical services have increased dramatically. This is extremely
important to hospitals since surgical services make up forty percent or more of the overall hospital
revenue. With advancements in technology, some hospitals are offering digital operating rooms,
robotic assistance and telesurgery. Even with these advancements, hospitals are having difficulty
ensuring patient safety, streamlining workflow and cutting cost. In the U.S., the average operating
room operates at sixty eight percent capacity. If a hospital could increase its surgical schedule by one
additional surgical case per day, it could generate an additional $4 to $7 million in annual revenue.
One of the biggest concerns for a hospital is timeliness since delays and postponement of surgeries
can create a bottleneck in the system resulting in patient dissatisfaction. The hospital has decided to
use Six Sigma since it is the best strategy to address the issues in the operating room.

Historical Context Analysis
Studying the context in which a text was written provides valuable insight to the outside factors that
may have had an influence on the text and its original meaning. This includes the type of government,
societal norms, and the type of education available. These factors influence the gender norms and their
specific roles in society during that time. The Household Codes were written during in ancient times
under a Greco Roman government. As a result of this type of government, specific laws and standards
were set in place by the government and reinforced by society which had an influence over what
women were able to do. Prominent ways of thought in those societies also had an impact on the New

When the historical context is recognized, the text will be interpreted in a way that the author had
intended and not taken out of context. This is essential for modern interpreters of the Bible because the
social location of the individuals in the present society is different from the individuals in antiquity.
When interpreting the Bible, there are multiple methods that can be used and different presuppositions
that the reader can bring to their understanding of the material. According to Hauer and Young, there
are three complementary paths a modern reader can take in serious study of the Bible (Hauer, 1). One
of these paths includes analyzing the historical world of the Bible. The historical world refers to the
events and situations that form contexts for understanding the Bible as it was being written and
interpreted (Hauer, 1). These refer to things such as wars or the type of government that is in control
because that affects the audience of the writing and what issues within the community are being
addressed by the writer. The Bible has a large influence over modern society because it was composed
in, and became part of history (Hauer, 1). With such a long history, the Bible has been established as

Catholic Education Research Paper
I cannot describe what Catholic Education means to me currently without recalling what it once meant
to me. Catholic Education meant different things to me at different stages of my life. From
kindergarten to around grade 5, Catholic Education was just education. I knew public schools existed.
I understood that Catholic schools engaged students in the Catholic faith. Like my peers I would pray,
listen during religion lessons, and sit cross legged on the gymnasium floor, cramped together with 500
other students. The masses meant nothing to me. (They really just meant discomfort because my legs
would always fall asleep.) I listened to most lessons passively all the time, and religion lessons were
no exception. Prayers were only memorized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I came to conclusions about my faith and Catholic Education. Catholic Education still does not mean
much to me. However, it brings together people who (most of the time) come from a
Catholic/Christian backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. For that I appreciate Catholic
Education. What I do not find as nice about Catholic schools is that despite being centred around
religion, people in Catholic schools can be just as mean spirited, rude, and uncompassionate as people
in public schools, if not worse. I am aware that it is unrealistic to assume that those in Catholic schools
are all wonderful people, but I find reality ironic. In my opinion, Catholic Education is like public
education, except Catholic students have school masses and are obligated to take religion courses. As I
introduced previously, being subject to Catholic Education and those devoutly religious for the better
part of 13 years has guided me to my brand of Catholicism so to speak. Catholic Education has
inadvertently, or possibly intentionally, started me off on my own spiritual path by showing me what I
do not like about Catholicism (eg. the belief that not going to church is bad). Spirituality and personal
religious beliefs are lifelong works in progress, and I suppose that without Catholic Education my

Narrative Essay On A Mouse In The Mouse
Me and my friends just found a dead mouse in our classroom, and one of them suggested we hide it in
Mrs Pratchett s jars of sweets. I was given the honor of putting the mouse in the jar. Before I did so, I
made a last minute decision to turn the tables of our secret plan, because I would have to face risky
consequences. Once we reached there, I ve started planning my own mouse plot by tricking my
friends into thinking that I put the mouse in, when in reality I hadn t. We barged in the sweet shop, and
we saw Mrs Pratchett s dissatisfied as usual. She grumbled because we barged in her sweet shop like a
pack of wild cattle. After that, she went to the bathroom, making it the perfect time to put the mouse
in. I told my friends to wait outside so just in case she walks out, she won t be expecting any
tomfoolery. This was just step 1 of my scheme, and a wide, smug grin spread across my face as my
plan came together. When she came out of the bathroom, I asked her if I could go there for a while.
She stared at me for a full minute of silence, wiping the soot of her chin, and said I could, but I had to
clean up afterwards. Drooping my arms, I headed to the bathroom and started desperately flushing the
mouse in. Mrs Pratchett heard all of the flushing, and she came to the door to see what was going on.
It was a miracle that her bathroom door had a lock option on it, because if there wasn t , my plan could
have been a total bust. I washed my hands twice to get the mouse s germs off my hands (the water
there wasn t very sanitary!), and came out like nothing unusual happened. I was starting to get a
jumpy feeling about how my mouse plot was running so smoothly (though I can t really call it a
mouse plot anymore because I threw away the mouse.) I told my friends to come inside, and they all
have the same jumpy feeling like I did, with big, smiling faces on the prank. I was chuckling quietly to
see the look on their faces when they realize who I really pranked. I whispered to Thwaites that the
mouse was in the candy corn jar, so he asked for a pound of them. I even pulled out a few bucks to
emphasize the prank. She unscrewed the jar and she didn t find any trace of mouse in there. Confused,
Thwaites asked her to keep

Essay On Minimum Wage In Australia
Minimum wage is the lowest pay permitted by law that businesses should legitimately pay their
laborers. Comparably, it is the price floor underneath which specialists may not offer their work. Even
though the minimum wage laws are already in use in numerous places, contrasts of feeling exist about
the advantages and disadvantages of minimum wage. Supporters say it expands the way of life of
laborers, diminishes neediness, lessens imbalance, helps assurance and powers organizations to be
more efficient. Whereas rivals say it builds destitution, builds unemployment (especially among

The Red Scare Of Nicola Sacco And Bartolomeo Vanzetti
By 1920, the Puritan legacy, the cant of nativist racists, the economic wars, World War One, the crime
wave, and the Red Scare had conditioned the American people to fear and despise certain groups.
These groups usually included eastern and southern Europeans. The arrest and trial of Nicola Sacco
and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was fixated more on the battle between Anarchy and American traditions
rather than the actual evidence the prosecution presented. The Red Scare played a massive part in this.
The Sacco and Vanzetti case reflects the fears of immigration, immigrant crime and anarchy. Within a
week of going into war on April 1917, acts of political repression against radicals began and continued
with increasing severity throughout the war inducing the Red Scare of 1920. The fear of communism
increased when a series of strikes occurred in 1919. The police of Boston went on strike and 100,000
of steel and coal workers did as well. The communist usually always got the blame. As America
entered the 1920s, the hostility towards immigrants was mounting to incomparable levels. The
Bolshevik Revolution of 1919 brought about the fear and panic of communism which led to the
institutionalization of Red Scare policies that contained violations of civil rights and stained the
images of immigrants. There was a large belief that because of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia,
there was a vast possibility of an uprising happening in the United States. The United States was
scared that

Lamb To The Slaughter Suspense
How do writers create suspense in The Signalman and Lamb to the Slaughter ?
Gothic literature and its both sub genres, contemporary and traditional are looking for strange,
eccentric, the supernatural, the magical and the sublime. Sometimes subtly intermingled with the
realistic representation and stimulation of fear and horror within the context of a general focus on the
emotional rather than the rational it frequently has an exotic setting and locations which creates more
suspense for the reader and in large his imagery. We can see these functions more in the traditional

Discussion of the Pre-Socratics Essay
Discussion of the Pre Socratics
Socrates is easily one of the most well known names in the history of philosophy. He is even portrayed
via the magic of Hollywood time travel in the popular movie Bill and Ted s Excellent Adventure and
was more recently quoted inaccurately on a t shirt as saying, I drank what? Despite his fame, Socrates
was not the first philosopher by far, and certainly not the earliest to make meaningful contributions to
the field of philosophy. Some of the great Pre Socratics include Anaximenes, Parmenides, Xenophane,
and Democritus. The philosophical issues of their days were significantly different from the popular

Anaximenes professed the belief that the one was indeed the element air and that all of that which we
view as the many is composed of air through a process of condensation or rarefaction.
And all things are produced by a kind of condensation, and again rarefaction, of this air. (Anaximenes,
Fragment 2)
Parmenides believes that there is no many, only the one. He says that there may appear to be many but
that they are really one, for a plurality is incoherent. His arguments try to illustrate that there is no
possibility of change in the world. Parmenides states that what is by definition cannot possibly be
what is not. Therefore, what is not does not exist and should not be considered. If in turn, there is
nothing that is not, then nothing new can come into being or go out of being because that would
involve that which is not. So all of being and all of existence is one and the same, unchangeable,
infinite, and unable to be created or destroyed. Further, these are all one, for if something were to have
an identity that would mean that it was not another thing; this of course involves an application of the
incoherent concept of non being.
Usually, when one says that two concepts contrast, it is assumed that those concepts have similarities.
In the case of the beliefs of Anaximenes versus the beliefs of Parmenides in regards to the problem of
the one and the many it is difficult to draw a clear contrast since the two can be

Failure to manage a payroll effectively may cause many problems for the company and its employees.
It could mean loss of money, integrity, and trust between both parties.
Oftentimes, it takes many hours of work and manpower to get the job done. In certain cases, effective
payroll management is compromised by the lack of an effective system. Most companies may have
enough manpower and resources. However, with an effective information technology, managing a
payroll will be simpler, cost effective, timely and reliable.
One of the companies that use manual payroll system is the Arias Garments. It was established last
September 18, 1994 at #88 Bargy. Latag, Lipa City, under the management of Mr. Alex Arias together
with his wife Mrs. Anita Carol Katigbak. It started with only forty machines and ten employees. The
capital of Arias Garments is Php 500,000.00. By 1996, Arias Garments became the subcontractor of
Champan Garments. Champan Garments produce and transport products like Gap, Banana Republic,
Old Navy, Tommy, and Hilfinger.
As of now, Arias Garments have 176 machines and 100 employees (40 regular and 60 contractual).

first was a societal paradigm shift in how we view college and higher education. After the discovery of
both the benefits of higher education and the political value of advocating for it, politicians,
community leaders, and media, in general, all conveyed repeated social, political, and cultural

How Carbonated Water Affects The Production Of Amylase By...
Almost everyone has sat down on their couch, turned on the T.V., and sat there for hours, eating chips
and drinking soda. It may have never occurred to people that, when they do this, a chemical reaction is
being catalyzed in their mouths by the enzyme amylase. This chemical reaction happens all the time,
but with soda in the mix during this reaction, the outcome could be different. This experiment will test
how carbonated water, like that of soda, affects the production of sugars by breaking down starch
through amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that breaks down plant starches into simple sugars like
glucose. There are many types of amylase, but the one found in humans saliva is alpha amylase. Alpha
amylase breaks up polysaccharide bonds within the starch molecules by using water in order to reduce
them to glucose. This breaking up is called hydrolysis. The alpha amylase ... Show more content on

Marketing Mix For Launching A Product
I am going to look at how a business successfully applies the marketing mix when launching a
product. I am also going to compare and contrast traditional and digital methods of communication. I
am also going to look at how Sony, when launching their Playstation 4, have applied the marketing
mix, identified their target market and give recommendations on how they could have launched this
product better. The product itself is arguably the most important part of the marketing mix because
this is what the customer is actually going to buy, so it is very important that it meets the demands of
customers. By taking a customer centric approach, a business can ensure that the product meets the
customers demands rather than a product centric approach as this wont meet all of the target markets
needs. Customers want a product which is both environmentally friendly and safe (Gbadamosi, n.d.)
By providing these two things when a product is being launched, would help ensure that a product
launch has been successful. However in some cases, some businesses will struggle to meet this for
example a motor vehicle. Due to the fact that cars release emissions, cars are not going to be
environmentally friendly, however if the company is able to show that the business is improving on
what they previously offered in terms of reducing emissions from their cars, customers are more likely
to be pleased and therefore makes it likely that the product is going to have a successful product
launch.

Attitudes towards women, and their role in American...
Attitudes towards women, and their role in American Musical Theatre.
For my essay, I am going to look at the attitudes towards women, both from men and other women,
and the significant role that that women had in telling the stories in American musical theatre.
Showboat was the first musical of its kind. Up to this point, musicals consisted of songs and dances,
with often feeble storylines based around the big stars. Showboat had a real story, adapted from a
novel, and both the singing and dancing told the story.
At the beginning of Showboat, after we have been introduced to the main characters, we hear the main
female characters attitude towards men and love.

The musical starts with a woman singing Summertime, to lull her baby to sleep. When this fails, her
husband has a try. He sings A woman is a sometime thing , this song shows the attitude of the men
towards their women in the community, that they are less respected than men.
Bess is clearly outside the close knit Catfish Row community. She is a bar girl and drug addict, who is
in total contrast to the stereotypical, hard working, religious women of Catfish Row. Crown
(Bess partner) kills a gambling partner and leaves Bess in Catfish
Row while he runs away from the police. Porgy and Bess become a couple, and we see Bess changing.
She starts to dress like the women of Catfish Row and gives money to help bury Clara s husband (who
Crown killed). The women s attitude towards her changes and they stop seeing her as a tart and start
looking at her as a friend.
Bess doesn t have a theme of her own, instead adopting part of the theme of whoever she s with.
The loneliness theme that she absorbs is used by Gershwin to show that Bess love can take away
Porgy s loneliness. Later this theme
adoption is used to link Bess with Sportin life. We are also shown
Bess dependence on other people as she doesn t sing a song on her own. By using Porgy s range of a
perfect fifth (used throughout the musical to show community and togetherness) she shows that she is
starting to fit in. Then her past catches

If it means that the schoolrooms will be more orderly and more disciplined, and that our young people
will learn to evaluate themselves by what they are on the inside instead of what they re wearing on the

President Clinton said this in a speech in in March of 1996. There is an immense controversy about
whether a school uniform will help or hinder a student. After much deliberation and inquiry, public

A uniform saves parents from having to keep buying their kid the latest trend and name brand
clothing. Buying five different uniform styles is a lot cheaper than having to buy 30 40 different

seasons, which saves time and money from not having to shop the seasons.
Along with easy purchase, uniforms also help cut down bullying. Implementing uniforms gives kids a
better sense of school pride, in which they care more about the school and each other. For example
when Long Beach introduced uniforms in 1995 they received data that showed the in school fights
decreased by 38%, suspension rates dropped by 90% and furthermore the overall crime rates dropped
by 91%. School uniforms would work in the same way an athletic team uniform would; it would give
them a sense of pride and belonging. Like athletic teams, when a team member or student would wear

Norman s Auditory Hallucination
Auditory hallucination is still regarded as a definitive symptom of psychosis. As schizophrenic sound
is sourceless and the patient is not able to pinpoint where the source emanate from, within or without.
For Foucault schizophrenic voices function in an impossible space, signifying the way in which the
subject s spatiotemporal world is restructured in deep mental illness (Erb 55). Foucault observed
[Schizophrenics] hear voices in mythical space . . . in which, axes of reference are fluid and mobile:
they hear next to them, around them, within them, the voices of persecutors, which at the same time,
they situate beyond the walls, beyond the city, beyond all frontiers (qtd in Erb 55). We can apply this
observation to study Norman s case

commonly used Wi Fi basically work in 2.4G wireless frequency band, using 802.11b / g protocol. But
as more and more equipment is added to the 2.4GHz, the channel became very crowded between 2.4

Sample Nursing School Admission Research Paper
As a child, one of the most important questions that is asked is, What do you want to be when you
grow up? My response was a little bit stumbling, but it was very straightforward. I want to be a nurse
because they help others. But as I grew and learned more about the healthcare field, I managed to find
something that interest me. I am so eager to become a healthcare manager, leaning towards a
leadership position, that I have researched every aspect and component of the career. Asking guidance
counselors, parents, even those who work in political arenas, eager to learning more about the

best not to think more of practical advantages than of [one s] mental or moral well being . . . in the
case of the State or of anything else (Apology 36c). He scorns the materialism of Athens powerful
figures, and their obsession with power and status. These judgements would suggest that Socrates
ideal Prince would not only never do injury upon others, but would in fact be entirely unconcerned
with gaining political status. The true champion of justice, he insists, must necessarily confine himself
to private life and leave politics alone (Apology 32a). This attitude represents the antithesis of all of
Machiavelli s advice in The Prince, although, as already discussed, Machiavelli does not claim that a
Prince should be a champion of justice, another point on which Socrates would disagree. In addition to
land and power, Machiavelli s Prince, as previously mentioned, is also chiefly concerned with his own
security and wellbeing (Prince 57). In this ruthless world which Machiavelli envisions, a Prince must
protect himself and his state at all turns from power hungry nobles, a dissatisfied populace, and
foreign invaders. While this Prince is likely to think of security and wellbeing in terms of the security
and wellbeing of his state and his person, Socrates claims that the wellbeing of the person is above all
a matter of the soul, encouraging the citizens of Athens

The Sisters Brothers And The Brothers
In today s society, women have an equal amount of rights compared to men. Women can work
wherever they chose, vote for whomever they may choose, and pick a lifestyle of their own desire.
This type of society has never been forever, meaning men were inferior to women at one point in time.
The novel of The Sisters Brothers portrays this type of society, and we see many examples that the
novel is presented in this type of society. The Sisters Brothers is a western inspired story of 2 brothers
and depicts many scenes where women are focused upon, and show many qualities and roles they play
in their current society. Whereas one woman may play the role of a prostitute, others may obtain the
role of a servant, shopkeeper or family caregiver. Within each role women play, many challenges
appear, and different circumstances create different outcomes. Many of the women in the western
community may have not had a choice in their current profession, meaning many of the prostitutes
were forced upon this job, and the servants as well potentially did not have much of a choosing for
their work style. This novel portrays men to be inferior to women, and women were not seen on the
streets, but the background only. As the men would travel, and collect the money for survival, it would
be the women who stay at home, or the women keeping the men content with their travels.

President of the United States, Donald Trump. Harshly criticized for his politics, pseudo
professionalism, and demeanor, the President brandishes the reports and depictions of his misdoing as
fake news . Protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution, the citizens and press are at liberty

Louis Phillipe, born under the Old Regime in 1773, is the only French monarch to come to power as a
result of a political uprising against his predecessor Although the cousin of the Bourbon monarch,
King Louis XVI, Louis Phillipe the son of Duc d Orléans, was raised with liberal and Enlightenment
ideologies. With his family heavily involved in the early stages of the French Revolution of 1789,
Louis Phillipe served as an officer in the military. Although unsettled by the Revolutionary leadership
voting for regicide, he remained faithful to the army, until the outbreak of the Reign of Terror in 1793.
Upon fleeing France, Louis Phillipe s father denounced his son s actions. However, the Duc was later
arrested and guillotined for he was still tainted by association with his son and nephew, King Louis
XVI. During his twenty two year exile, Louis Phillipe travelled throughout Europe, the United States,
and the Caribbean only returning to France after the Bourbon Restoration and the establishment of the
constitutional monarchy of Louis XVIII in 1814. During his exile, he reconciled with the royal family

  • 2. Sloss Furnace Research Paper Sloss Furnace is haunted by one of the most evil, murderous ghosts of all time. The Birmingham Police have over 100 recorded reports of unexplainable activity that has been experienced by people while at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama over the years. And those are just the ones that have been reported. Between the years of 1882 to 1971 Sloss Furnace, and its employees, were tasked with turning coal and ore into steel. That steel went on to shape the industrial revolution, from New York skyscrapers, to bridges in the south, Sloss Furnace had a hand in it all. Sloss was known as an inhumanly terrible place to work, and the worst of the worst was the Graveyard Shift foreman, James Slag Wormwood. During the stifling summer months, temperatures throughout the plant would reach more than 120 degrees. Lack of sleep, the heat, and low visibility made working the furnace literally a living hell and only the poorest of workers, desperate for employment, would work it. ... Countless others lost their ability to work due to accidents, mishaps, and even a recorded explosion in the small blowing engine house in 1888 that left 6 workers burned blind. There were no breaks, there were no holidays, there was only the furnace.and its constant hunger for more and more coal. Fright ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Author, Jeannette Walls, had a tough childhood mainly because of her parents decisions. She turned it around to become a successful writer. She wrote The Glass Castle. A New York Times bestseller, that depicts her childhood to adulthood, and tells the circumstances that the Walls parents put their children in. Although Jeannette s parents loved their children as much as they were capable of loving them, two damaging characteristics of their parenting style, irresponsibility and shiftlessness, almost destroyed the family and certainly cast a shadow over their childhood. • 4. Market Failure Of The Pharmaceutical Industry Market failure appears when there is a failure in allocation of goods and services. When the market is unsuccessful, the government is called to intervene and correct the failure. Over the years, government participation in the pharmaceutical market has been more wide ranging than any other good or service. With the government s ability to regulate, mandate, inform, finance and provide, their intervention to overcome market failure can be beneficial for the economy. Market failure plays a significant role in today s economy. Pharmaceutical industries are a prime example. There are several possible reasons as to why and how market failures might lead to such high prices for drugs. Information asymmetry is the most critical form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, patients often have less knowledge than the prescriber does about the appropriateness of the drug, where it can be very misinforming for the consumer. Lastly, drug efficacy is a problem in all contexts. Since stakeholders are likely, less informed than manufacturers it causes both the consumer and prescriber to depend on the manufacturer for information of the effectiveness of the drug (Bennett, Quick, Velasquez, 2016). Externalities, also viewed as the negative spillover effect, plays a role in market failures associated with pharmaceuticals. In the pharmaceutical sector, externalities take place when consumers affect the utilization of a drug s value. Externalities typically stop consumers from receiving cheaper costs for drugs because they normally don t carry the complete costs of drug expenses. Negative externalities induce a cycle of ongoing sales, more profits and more subsidies. Thus, if externalities are left to be controlled by a market then the implications will lead to high pricing on products. Recently, there had been a controversy over the rise in pharmaceutical costs involving the EpiPen in the United States. The EpiPen, also known as adrenaline/epinephrine, is a widely used injection that is used to treat allergic reactions. This generic drug has been available for many years. The EpiPen controversy is a prime example of how monopoly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Issue Of Public Health Summary The term Public Health describes how a society strives to keep the conditions of the public to be healthy to all individuals. The healthcare industry continues to change for the good of society, although the pedagogy in the universities that teaches our future healthcare professionals are lagging in their changes to the curriculum. There is a need to change our public health major to a population health major. Population health is not just policies and programs to keep public society healthy, it is an approach that looks at all the factors that can influence healthy individuals over the course of their lives. There are many benefits to this change. Students of University of Arkansas will benefit because this change will give our undergraduates the advantage to compete for the best healthcare careers in the industry. The University benefits are the promise of attracting more healthcare degree sought students and the potential to work together with healthcare businesses to shape the curriculum so that it is exactly what is needed. This change will cost the university professor s time and research but the future outcome is notably leading the healthcare education in the right direction. Introduction The Public Health s program of study should be expanded because the landscape of healthcare has changed. My proposal is to change the curriculum and title to Population Health to better equip students with the knowledge about current issues facing health within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Did Thurgood Marshall Influence Civil Rights What if segregation was a part of our everyday lives, as common as it is to brush one s teeth. Thanks to Thurgood Marshall, today s generation will never know the horrors of segregation and extreme racism. Thurgood Marshall was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, the court s first African American justice. Marshall experienced segregation growing up, going to exclusively black schools. When applying to a school that was below his league yet being rejected because of his color, he made it his mission to seek civil rights. he guided the litigation that destroyed Jim Crow segregation and crafted a distinctive jurisprudence marked by uncompromising liberalism, unusual attentiveness to practical considerations beyond the formalities of law, and an indefatigable willingness to dissent ( THURGOOD MARSHALL 1). Thurgood Marshall heavily influenced civil rights through his involvement in the NAACP and rulings during his time in the Supreme Court. Oryx And Crake Comparison Worlds that are similar; Oryx and Crake and 50 Shades of Grey In Oryx and Crake, the fiction is based on a speculative idea in which the world is based on the assumption of the future our past events have led up to. The author, Margaret Atwood touches on a number of complex problems such as human sexuality and the fact that it is quite critical in the center of the problems of society. In her body of works, she also writes about animal extinction, biotechnology, climate changes, and slavery in which are all topics that modern society is facing as well. This gendered society segregates women from all the major spheres, subordinating and marginalizing them to the areas which are pre labeled as feminine. In 50 Shades of Grey, there lies a great contrast of viewers who love it or hate it. • 8. Twelve Habits Of Christian Thought The Apostle Paul says that we should rejoice always (Phil. 4:4). The basis of our attitude is not on our circumstances but on the character of God. Philippians 4: 8 9, tells us what we should have our minds set on. It will take verbal and mental discipline as Christians to develop the characteristics of a healing church. Six Habits of Christian Thought The author lists the six commandments Paul states that form the habit of Christian thought. (1) Think about those things. Let go of the negatives and have Christ like thoughts. (2) Think with discernment. Think on Jesus the Truth not on facts alone. Not all facts are true. (3) Think honorable thoughts. These thoughts dwell on praise, worship, and thanksgiving. We are God s workmanship to which we owe only praise and thanksgiving. (4) Think just thoughts. All our thoughts should be without prejudice and bigotry. We are to think rightly and justly about all situations, giving everyone the same chance in our consideration of them. (p. 165) (5) Think untainted thoughts. Think thoughts from the Spirit, not mindless, vain meditation. (6) Have an eye for the beauty around you. Life is more than facts and statistics. There is beauty and artistic value in creation. We are to marvel at God s handiwork. We are to think like Jesus thought, which is different from the world. It takes discipline to become a healing church. The Power of Words Words carry power. All speech starts as a thought and manifested as words. Words have the power to ... Emile Durkheim Suicide In his research paper Suicide: a study of sociology , Emile Durkheim primarily argues that suicide is not necessarily an act of individualisation but rather it s an act that is influenced by one s position in his or her society. Each society, according to Durkheim, has its definite quota of suicide. Durkheim provides understanding of the societal conditions that contribute to increased rates of suicide within various types of cultural and religious groups. One condition which contributes to the increased suicide rates in the society is integration, which is the sense that an individual is part of a society. According to Durkheim, individuals who are either extremely under integrated into society or over integrated into society are the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The believe of suicide bombers that their contribution to their group by killing others or taking their own lives will bring change into the society could be viewed as an egoistic act. However, their acts of committing those actions as a part of a group is an act of altruism. Since an individual s tie with his or her society is broken, he or she starts to believe that they are free from social expectations and they are free to act against the society in order to reform it. Egoistic beliefs made the suicide bombers feel as they are isolated from their own society and they don t hesitate to take a action for themselves. Therefore, deciding to become a suicide bomber is part of egoistic belief where committing the attack to please a group deals with the altruistic aspect of suicide bombing. Accordingly, the idea of suicide bombing can be categorized as both egoistic and altruistic suicide. There were many times when the egoistic and altruistic aspect of suicide overlapped ideas of one another. Therefore, it s time to re explore Durkheim s idea of egoistic and altruistic suicide in order to explore more of their similarities. Suicide bombing is an example of how these two form of suicides shares many common concepts. Consequently, suicide bombing suggests us to re evaluate Durkheim s concept of egoistic and ... • 10. Paintings of the Old Masters Look at the color red, a color known for its beauty and while it may not be in everybody s catalogue of beauty, it cannot be denied of its intensity. If one is showed a stunning painting of a red rose, one of the descriptions that could apply to that paining is beauty: seeing such an elegant spectacle of nature being emulated on paper can be quite stimulating. Another description that could be associated with a red rose is passion, as such a color may leave one energized and spontaneous; however how would one respond if they were told that the painting of the rose was painted with blood. Now a painting that once may have suggested the aspects of beauty and passion, may stir descriptions such as fear, aggression, danger and yet passion as well; therefore, bringing one to the understanding that Every image embodies a way of seeing (Berger, 142). This is why paintings should be viewed as a spectacle; hence, this brings me to the painting I was presented with by John Berger in his book Ways of seeing in which he argues how through reproduction the modern context of the Old Masters paintings severed them from what they meant in the time of their production. The painting that demanded my attention was Wheatfield with Crows by Van Gogh, something that may seem simple at first but is rich with emotion. Through such a work of art I ve come to understand that paintings are a medium where an artist can illustrate his words/feelings and express ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fish food Like humans do, fish also need proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals unfortunately there are not many food which contain all the necessities2. This is tackled by feeding fish a combination of flake, frozen and fresh food. Frozen food can cause problems for fish if the food is not defrosted thoroughly as their intestinal lining is very sensitive and does not tolerate cold food very well. Then 0.52g of the fish flakes was weighed out and placed into the pestle mortar and grinded up, which 10ml of distilled water was then added to make a solution. Once the solution was made it was then divided equally into five centrifuge tubes and spun for 5 minutes each time in the centrifuge, (the 5th tube was balanced out in the centrifuge by a tube filled with water). From each centrifuge tube 1ml was placed into separate test tubes, and then 1ml of CuSO4 and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) which gives copper hydroxide (Cu(OH)2), if the colour changed to blue/violet then proteins where present within the solution. A cuvette was filled with distilled water and place within the colorimeter to calibrate it before the solutions were placed in if there was a colour change. If a colour change was present (blue/violet protein is present) the solutions was then transferred into separate cuvettes and placed in the colorimeter. Jeffrey Brodeur The osprey cam viewers were originally slightly distressed about the food situation in the nest because the mother didn t appear to be sharing the food with her offspring as much as the viewers felt was normal. The situation escalated when the mother started attacking her three babies; she was pecking at their heads and eyes while also using her talons to claw them. Over time, the babies became so hungry that they started attacking each other. At one point, a nestling got his talon caught in a balloon strings that was in the nest and was no more vulnerable to the mother s attacks. Although the osprey situation isn t a matter of personal safety, it is still a good opportunity to help spread the word. From what I know about Dr. Chapman, she would provide intelligent and kind words back to those osprey cam viewers who are begging the ospreys to be removed from the wild. She would tell the viewers that she understands their concerns but that removing the ospreys from the wild would be much worse for the nestlings. In accordance with the logic of collective action, I tested the hypothesis that small alliance members will be free riders. There is serious concern for the entire world about the Arabian Gulf security. Iran s expanding ambition rose to new heights when its nuclear ambitions were revealed to the world. In fact, Iran s nuclear ambition has alerted regional and international concerns about the future stability and security. This paper is important because it will contribute to the existing literature of collective action studies in general and the Arabian Gulf in particular. This study would provide valuable information to many stakeholders. First, this research will give scientific predictors of future procedures that should be taken to improve the regional security. • 14. system theory One of the biggest breakthroughs in how we understand and guide change in organizations is systems theory and systems thinking. There are two main definitions of a system, an implicit and an explicit phrase, with the explicit phrase being used in system thinking by organizations. The definition refers to a system as being a collection of highly integrated parts or subsystems that attain a specific goal, through inputs that are processed into precise outputs. And thus if a part of this highly linked system is changed, the overall system is also changed. This is what s meant by a system being systemic, i.e. relating and affecting the system as a whole. System complexity: Systems range from simple to complex. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the philosophies of Bunge, Bahm and Laszlo); mathematical modelling and information theory (e.g. the work of Mesarovic and Klir); and practical applications. Mathematical systems theory arose from the development of isomorphism between the models of electrical circuits and other systems. Applications include engineering, computing, ecology, management, and family psychotherapy. Systems analysis, developed independently of systems theory, applies systems principles to aid a decision maker with problems of identifying, reconstructing, optimizing, and controlling a system (usually a socio technical organization), while taking into account multiple objectives, constraints and resources. It aims to specify possible courses of action, together with their risks, costs and benefits. Systems theory is closely connected to cybernetics, and also to system dynamics, which models changes in a network of coupled variables Depending upon the problem situation, the system needs to be conceptualized using either the mechanistic, organismic, cultural or political metaphors (Flood and Jackson, 1991) or a combination of these. Thus, a theory of physical systems can help us in developing a mechanistic view of the systems to begin with, which can then be developed further by using other approaches along with the physical system theory. The basic equation of Six Sigma, Y = f(x), defines the relationship between a dependent variable Y or the outcome of a process and a set of independent variables x or possible causes which affect the outcome. The Company Over the past decade, surgical services have increased dramatically. This is extremely important to hospitals since surgical services make up forty percent or more of the overall hospital revenue. With advancements in technology, some hospitals are offering digital operating rooms, robotic assistance and telesurgery. Even with these advancements, hospitals are having difficulty ensuring patient safety, streamlining workflow and cutting cost. In the U.S., the average operating room operates at sixty eight percent capacity. If a hospital could increase its surgical schedule by one additional surgical case per day, it could generate an additional $4 to $7 million in annual revenue. One of the biggest concerns for a hospital is timeliness since delays and postponement of surgeries can create a bottleneck in the system resulting in patient dissatisfaction. These groups usually included eastern and southern Europeans. The arrest and trial of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was fixated more on the battle between Anarchy and American traditions rather than the actual evidence the prosecution presented. The Red Scare played a massive part in this. The Sacco and Vanzetti case reflects the fears of immigration, immigrant crime and anarchy. Within a week of going into war on April 1917, acts of political repression against radicals began and continued with increasing severity throughout the war inducing the Red Scare of 1920. He says that there may appear to be many but that they are really one, for a plurality is incoherent. His arguments try to illustrate that there is no possibility of change in the world. Parmenides states that what is by definition cannot possibly be what is not. Therefore, what is not does not exist and should not be considered. The Racism Of Jackie Robinson Danny Bogue Mr. Wallace History Day 12 September 2014 Jackie Robinson He walks into the stadium...hopeful...yet aware of the prejudice exiting in the minds of the ignorant... in the minds of those who do not realize his journey will empower the victims of unjustified hate and he will change history. Jackie Robinson shattered the color barrier in the MLB despite racism that permeated throughout the league and in society in the 1940 s. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play major league baseball. He is a model or courage and fortitude for everyone, and has left a huge legacy in the baseball world and in the whole entire sports world. He was signed by the brooklyn Dodgers in April 15, 1947. This is when history was made. This paper will explain Jackie Robinson s life before his career as a dodger, how he played, the person behind the signing of Jackie, and most importantly how the fans treated him and how he was even a leader/what his legacy even was. Jack Roosevelt (Jackie) Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919. He was born to Mallie and Jerry Robinson. He was the first of 5 children and, like most last children, got the short end of the stick on everything. Jackie s parents got divorced when Jackie was just a few years old, he stayed with his mom. The first was a societal paradigm shift in how we view college and higher education. After the discovery of both the benefits of higher education and the political value of advocating for it, politicians, community leaders, and media, in general, all conveyed repeated social, political, and cultural messages on the importance of college. Currently, seven in ten adults believe a college education is very important and more than nine in ten thought it was at least fairly important. • 35. How Carbonated Water Affects The Production Of Amylase By... Almost everyone has sat down on their couch, turned on the T.V., and sat there for hours, eating chips and drinking soda. It may have never occurred to people that, when they do this, a chemical reaction is being catalyzed in their mouths by the enzyme amylase. This chemical reaction happens all the time, but with soda in the mix during this reaction, the outcome could be different. This experiment will test how carbonated water, like that of soda, affects the production of sugars by breaking down starch through amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that breaks down plant starches into simple sugars like glucose. There are many types of amylase, but the one found in humans saliva is alpha amylase. Alpha amylase breaks up polysaccharide bonds within the starch molecules by using water in order to reduce them to glucose. This breaking up is called hydrolysis. The alpha amylase ... The independent, manipulated variable is the amount of carbonated water and the dependent, responding variable is the amount of glucose produced by amylase. Various percentages of a carbonated water and water solution, including just water and just carbonated water, will be combined with starch to make many different solutions. Amylase will be poured into each of those solutions and then, the amount of glucose created from the hydrolysis of the starch in the solution will be recorded. • 36. Marketing Mix For Launching A Product I am going to look at how a business successfully applies the marketing mix when launching a product. I am also going to compare and contrast traditional and digital methods of communication. I am also going to look at how Sony, when launching their Playstation 4, have applied the marketing mix, identified their target market and give recommendations on how they could have launched this product better. The product itself is arguably the most important part of the marketing mix because this is what the customer is actually going to buy, so it is very important that it meets the demands of customers. By taking a customer centric approach, a business can ensure that the product meets the customers demands rather than a product centric approach as this wont meet all of the target markets needs. Customers want a product which is both environmentally friendly and safe (Gbadamosi, n.d.) By providing these two things when a product is being launched, would help ensure that a product launch has been successful. However in some cases, some businesses will struggle to meet this for example a motor vehicle. Due to the fact that cars release emissions, cars are not going to be environmentally friendly, however if the company is able to show that the business is improving on what they previously offered in terms of reducing emissions from their cars, customers are more likely to be pleased and therefore makes it likely that the product is going to have a successful product launch. ... For my essay, I am going to look at the attitudes towards women, both from men and other women, and the significant role that that women had in telling the stories in American musical theatre. Showboat was the first musical of its kind. Up to this point, musicals consisted of songs and dances, with often feeble storylines based around the big stars. Showboat had a real story, adapted from a novel, and both the singing and dancing told the story. At the beginning of Showboat, after we have been introduced to the main characters, we hear the main female characters attitude towards men and love. Fish got to swim, birds got to fly, I got to love one man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The musical starts with a woman singing Summertime, to lull her baby to sleep. When this fails, her husband has a try. He sings A woman is a sometime thing , this song shows the attitude of the men towards their women in the community, that they are less respected than men. Bess is clearly outside the close knit Catfish Row community. She is a bar girl and drug addict, who is in total contrast to the stereotypical, hard working, religious women of Catfish Row. Crown (Bess partner) kills a gambling partner and leaves Bess in Catfish Row while he runs away from the police. Porgy and Bess become a couple, and we see Bess changing. She starts to dress like the women of Catfish Row and gives money to help bury Clara s husband (who Crown killed). The women s attitude towards her changes and they stop seeing her as a tart and start looking at her as a friend. Bess doesn t have a theme of her own, instead adopting part of the theme of whoever she s with. The loneliness theme that she absorbs is used by Gershwin to show that Bess love can take away Porgy s loneliness. Later this theme adoption is used to link Bess with Sportin life. We are also shown Bess dependence on other people as she doesn t sing a song on her own. By using Porgy s range of a perfect fifth (used throughout the musical to show community and togetherness) she shows that she is starting to fit in. Then her past catches ... If it means that the schoolrooms will be more orderly and more disciplined, and that our young people will learn to evaluate themselves by what they are on the inside instead of what they re wearing on the outside, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear uniforms. Former President Clinton said this in a speech in in March of 1996. There is an immense controversy about whether a school uniform will help or hinder a student. Along with easy purchase, uniforms also help cut down bullying. Implementing uniforms gives kids a better sense of school pride, in which they care more about the school and each other. For example when Long Beach introduced uniforms in 1995 they received data that showed the in school fights decreased by 38%, suspension rates dropped by 90% and furthermore the overall crime rates dropped by 91%. School uniforms would work in the same way an athletic team uniform would; it would give them a sense of pride and belonging. Like athletic teams, when a team member or student would wear their jersey, or in this case uniform, they would cloak themselves in their school color they would feel obligated to make sure they represent the best for their school to show that they care and they are going to prove how exceptional their school is. He scorns the materialism of Athens powerful figures, and their obsession with power and status. These judgements would suggest that Socrates ideal Prince would not only never do injury upon others, but would in fact be entirely unconcerned with gaining political status. The true champion of justice, he insists, must necessarily confine himself to private life and leave politics alone (Apology 32a). This attitude represents the antithesis of all of Machiavelli s advice in The Prince, although, as already discussed, Machiavelli does not claim that a Prince should be a champion of justice, another point on which Socrates would disagree. In addition to land and power, Machiavelli s Prince, as previously mentioned, is also chiefly concerned with his own security and wellbeing (Prince 57). In this ruthless world which Machiavelli envisions, a Prince must protect himself and his state at all turns from power hungry nobles, a dissatisfied populace, and foreign invaders.
