main competitors in the market, Royal Oak and private labels.
Key trend and key success factor: Grilling is a popular event in US. Common reasons for barbecuing
are great flavor, outdoor social activities, change of pace etc. Charcoal and gas grilling are the most

(d) Kingsford should re evaluate the job sharing arrangement for brand manager. By having both
brand managers only collaborate together on Wednesday might cause inefficient. This arrangement
might not be suitable for Kingsford future development. | Evaluation of possible solution | | Pro | Cons
| A | Immediate result. If no merchandising loss, Kingsford obtain $1.87 billion of profit. With
merchandising loss there is still a $1.72 billion profit. | Price increase might affect relationship with
channels, push customer to purchase other brands or gas grill. | B | Able to increase long and short
term sales, prevent and compete with gas grilling, | Might set up wrong message or inefficient
marketing campaign because Kingsford has not emphasis on advertising for a long time. | C | Able to
fully utilize or increase the production capacity, catch up and gain profit from gas grilling trend and |
High cost and the result will not be immediate. | D | Enable Kingsford to obtain the most efficient
arrangement for brand manager task and prevent wastage or contingencies. | Having only one brand
manager might cause the ideas to be less innovative and the brand manager might have a hard time
coping with the other s work. |
Recommendation and justification: The lack of advertising and promotion has not only negatively
affected Kingsford but also the whole charcoal industry. Thus,

The Thought And Follow Of Change Management
2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
The aim of this study is to look at the thought and follow of change management in SMEs and to
appear at the criticalness given to the correspondence as a change management tool in these
associations. To attain this purpose, the researcher critically reviewed the relevant pedantic literature
on the topic. The section displays that literature review that supported the research in theoretical and
hypothetical understanding of the subject alongside setting the heading of the study in accordance
with the course gave inside the past studies.
2.2 Change Management
2.2.1 Change management definition and background.
There is no universally acknowledged meaning of change management. Nickols (2010) claimed that
each one the definitions of change management may be classified into four perspectives especially
change management as undertaking of overseeing alteration, as a zone of talented follow, as an
assemblage of information and as a bearing mechanism.
Lorenzi (2005) delineated change management as the technique by that an association achieves its
future state the vision. Although he utilised the expression process for change management, the
principle focus of his definition is on the methodology to this strategy. He affirmed that before
actualising a change one needs to have a dream for change and ought to impart this vision to
individuals inside the associations to make them serve as change operators. Mackezie Robb (2004)

Essay On Socratic Application
My weekend was great! Lol I knocked out most of my paper and reduced a large amount of my notes
to outlines. So I freed up some time to study this week. Awesome! Congratulations just for completing
it. That takes a lot of self discipline and perseverance. And thanks to adrenaline, pressure can
sometimes be a good thing. I bet you came home and cleaned out the fridge. Haha You know it s true?
So much conviction. You have to teach me a thing or two now. Just a heads up I may embarrass you
and whenever you do ask, I m not having a seizure. :) I d love to share some space with a fellow
Socratic investigator. Maybe we can help each other achieve clarity. I enjoy the alternative perspective
and sometimes you may realize that you aren t asking the right questions. Unfortunately, it seems like
we (as in society) have to conform to unitary career paths. It s difficult and I understand. To try ...

her husband was stationed out there. I loved it. It was so motorcycle friendly and the weather was

Kant Good Will
The value of an action varies in regards to the qualifications of such. Mill found value in the
consequentialist motives of an instrumental utilitarianistic will; Socrates emphasized the refinement of
virtues in the proceeding actions of good men. Immanuel Kant took a differing approach to this,
boldly stating that a good will is the only thing with full value in itself (394); making the claim that
the source of value lies solely within the motive of the action itself. While earlier philosophers
emphasized happiness as the end goal of all humanity, Kant sought after the fallacy in these claims.
He found deontology as the final remaining factor uncorrupted by the possibility of human perversion,
leading to a good will being the only marker of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If, even with man s best effort, nothing is achieved, any process of good will must be regarded as such
(394). This marks a definite shift in philosophical thought; the consideration of good without any
remark on the consequences of one s actions and thoughts. Kant does not emphasize the creation of
happiness as the goal of one s choices, since happiness is a subjective marker open to corruption
(396). Multiple actions can produce this result, while the same action can differ in its consequences.
This uncertainty necessitates a different, more concrete definition of moral value. Value then, can be
derived in the purity of one s motivation. Regardless of the outcome of such, intentions of good will
can never be unappreciated as lesser than. It exists as the foundation of all that can be regarded as
valuable, and must be the first step in the evaluation of the quality of one s actions. When one acts
from duty, rather than simply alongside of it, their actions have moral value (397 8). Duty stands as
the definitive motivator of one s action, of which the true intent can be derived

Surgical Implications Of Splenic Patients
All the patients who underwent LSPDP at the Li Hui Li Hospital and Li Hui Li Eastern Hospital
between January 2014 and April 2017 were reviewed retrospectively, and were approved by an
institutional review board. Data collected from the medical records were age, sex, preoperative
diabetes mellitus status, preoperative American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grading,
pathological diagnosis, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, postoperative
morbidity and mortality. All patients underwent preoperative CT or enhanced MRI examination to

The stomach was suspended from the abdominal wall, revealing the pancreas neck, body and tail.
After exploration of the pancreas, pancreatic lesion was identified by using intraoperative laparoscopic
ultrasound. In addition to this, with the help of laparoscopic coagulation shears inferior margin of the
pancreas was divided to separate it from the retroperitoneum. The pancreas was then pulled superiorly
and anteriorly, further revealing the superior mesenteric vein, inferior mesenteric vein and the splenic
vein located within the fusion fascia of Toldt. The longitudinal dissection of the fusion fascia of Told
towards the tail of the pancreas further revealed the splenic vein and was carefully isolated.
Additionally, divulging and isolation of splenic artery was done by gentle traction of the splenic vein
caudally using a vascular sling, where splenic artery lies just above the splenic vein Figure 2. The
dissection then at that point continued from medial to lateral, ligating each branch of the splenic
vessels encountered supplying the pancreas using laparoscopic coagulation shears or clips. After
sufficient surgical margins were attained, the pancreas was transected 2 cm proximal to the tumor
using 45 mm Endo GIA stapler. Additionally, the Hem O lock was clamped to the distal end of the

Designing An Original Toy For Children Aged Eight And Under
Introduction As a part of our final project for GEEN 1400 Engineering Projects, we had to design an
original toy for children aged eight and under. Each group has to come up with a new toy which has
not yet existed. The toy requires the implementation of engineering skills in its manufacturing and
design process. Some of those competence are obtained from in class workshops or personal
experience, though students are also allowed to take workshops outside of class, in the ITLL, or Idea
Forge. Several of the skills most groups require are: laser cutting, CAD, electronics, 3D printing, etc.
Not everyone in the group possesses skills for all aspects of the project. Students divide among
themselves and each member takes over a part of the project, however, team members still
communicate with each other in completing their tasks. Later, they piece in their parts and collaborate
to figure out remaining tasks and possible improvements to the project. The deadline for this project is
the Design Expo where students present their project to judges visiting from local companies. Our
section s theme of the final project is toys, particularly for those aged eight and under. Therefore, we
wanted to construct a toy which is fun, yet suitable for children within that age group. We decided to
design an LED maze for our final project. It primarily consist of a hockey themed maze with several
LED beams as barriers. A mini air hockey puck is part of the toy and the user utilizes it to glide

Understanding Autism Syndrome Disorders Essay
Autism is a behavioral syndrome usually presenting behavior abnormalities before the child is thirty
months of age. These behavioral abnormalities include marked social deficits, specific language
abnormalities and stereotyped, receptive behaviors. Although the exact etiology of autism is not
known it is now believed that it is a dysfunction of one or more unidentified brain systems and not the
result of parental and environmental influences. Variations in symptomology and in prognosis among
autistic persons depend on both the severity and the extent of the underlying brain dysfunction
(Parritz, Troy 136). Several studies have been conducted including neuron anatomic imaging,
microscopic neuroanatomic observations and positron emission ... Show more content on

It is expected that children with autism will struggle with establishing and maintain compensating
relationships. Only half of children with autism who are in comprehensive classrooms are involved in
the social networks of their classrooms. It s very difficult for children with autism to be in a classroom
with children who don t have a disorder. Children with this sickness can t function just like everyone
else; they need attentive care and affection. Children with autism are more likely to be isolated across
all grade levels because, when they are in a room with too many people it gets overwhelming to him
or her and we as a parent, peer, or teacher have to be understanding about that. The older he or she
becomes with this sickness, the more isolate they become. However difficult interactions like
friendship and relationships can be clear that the child and adolescents desire connections with others.
Sadly there is no cure for autism spectrum disorder but there are multiple therapies. The most popular
therapy is called ABA training. This is the most widely accepted autism therapy. ABA is based on the
idea that people are more likely to repeat behaviors that are rewarded than behaviors that are not
recognized or are ignored. A trained therapist conducts ABA training. The treatment begins with an
assessment by the therapist. The purpose of the assessment is to determine which skills the child

I Want For Graduate From Uncg With My Degree
I eventually want to graduate from UNCG with my degree in recreational therapy. I know that once I
do that, then I will be one step closer to accomplishing one of the many goals I have set out to
conquer. Then of course I want to attend graduate school for my program and graduate with my
doctorate in that field but ultimately I would like to be my own boss and have my own physical
therapy practice and facilities etc. I can honestly say I see myself established in my career 5 years
from now and doing what I love of course which is helping others through rehab. The population I
most interested working with in the future is children. Even though they are high in energy and may
be hard for them to consecrate on the activity they are doing, I feel as though they would be the most
fun and easiest group to deal with. I love to see joy I bring in a child life. The satisfaction of being that
individual to make a change in their life or they look up to me as a role model makes me feel like their
superhero. This gives me the chance to connect with a child who has been struggling, and when they
finally understand what you re trying to teach them is most fulfilling. The book Everything I Know

Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. . This

Early Church Missionaries
Much can be learned from early church missionaries. Two such missionaries were Ninian (360 432)
and Patrick (389 461). Ninian, the apostle of Scotland, was trained in Rome, but was British.1 While
in France, Ninian, an apostle of Scotland, was introduced to the idea that a monk should be a

The apostle of Ireland, Patrick, was brought up in northwest England by a Christian family. When he

his journey to monasticism began. Upon learning monasticism, he returned to Ireland as a missionary,

The Drilling For Offshore Drilling
IS MAKING OIL DEALS WORTH THE SPILLS It seems today that everything comes with a
promise or a benefit. Often as humans we have to make the choice whether we want to be more self
reliance or have a safer environment. That brings us to the subject of offshore drilling in regards to the
Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Offshore drilling is the process of drilling for oil offshore in places such
oceans or sea beds through an oil rig. Sound like something non complex. Many would assume that
offshore drilling could not have very much effect in regards to onshore. The most politically correct
way for a person to decide where they stand on this issues is to research both sides of it. If a person

Not even covering the danger of accidents the process in which oil is drilled is dangers in itself to the
environment. During the process of drilling offshore, each drill well generates tens of thousands of
gallons of waste drilling muds (materials used to lubricate drill bits and maintain pressure) and
cuttings. Drilling muds contain toxic metals such as mercury, lead, and cadmium that may
bioaccumulate and biomagnify in marine organisms, including in our seafood supply. (Natural

already come across toxic metals that are released in the water during the drilling process. These toxic
metals that are released in the water are not only harmful to water creatures and wildlife but extremely
harmful to humans. Take the toxic metal lead, for example, lead in itself is very detrimental to the

Mao Zedong Of The World Essay
Though Mao Zedong would argue the people wield the power to change history, they do not. Perhaps
they should, but that concerns epistemological questions. And while elements of Mao s perspective
that the people comprise the motive force in the making of world history wafted around in compelling
the U.S. to intervene in Iraq in 2003, it is not a sufficient explanation. The people did not form the
chief reason for the Iraqi campaign, and certainly did not originate the intervention alone , as Mao s
philosophy would suggest. Alternatively, Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle contends, The history
of the world is but the biography of great men. He rightly locates the locus of watershed moments in
history: great men. At the very least, a few powerful men ultimately control the people s destiny both
near to and far from home. In reality, a small, elite group of individuals set the agenda for world order.
As evidenced by the 2003 Iraq War, a tight circle of plutocrats the president, his advisors, and those
with skin in the financial game can steer the course for two entire nations for a decade.
The Bush Doctrine vastly expanded what the United States deems a vital interest dragging preëmptive
action, unilateralism, and anti terrorism under its umbrella. Democratizing nations plays a critical role
in the strategy as well. A spirit of liberalism flows through the Doctrine, as it attempts to depose
tyrannical dictators to ease relations between nations and foster democracy. It

In Ancient Egypt, stelas are either stone or wooden slabs...
In Ancient Egypt, stelas are either stone or wooden slabs used as a means of presenting a monument,
usually for funerary purposes. They were also used as markers between territories. Stelas usually
feature some sort of decoration and are carved in relief, either raised or sunken. Paint also was
incorporated in some of these stelas and often featured hieroglyphics detailing the scene. In Egypt
these stelas were primarily used as funerary ornaments, very much resembling tombstones. Looking
from the first dynasty on, stelas changed throughout the dynasties in Egypt including their shapes,
kind of decorations, and their inscriptions. Initially used as tombstones, these stelas were placed
outside of the tombs to name the tomb owner and acted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historians suggest that these stelas might have been placed on the outside of funerary complex while
others suggest that they may have been used to roof the structure. Although many theories exist, it is
pretty much commonly agreed that these stelas did not exist within the tombs walls during this time.
Abydos becomes an important location during Ancient Egyptian history. The end of the Old Kingdom
saw the city of Abydos as the center for Osiris. We see Abydos becoming the destination for
pilgrimages and the site for annual festivities. Looking specifically at the stelas at Abydos we see that
they are smaller in size and lack the artistic preciseness we see in later funerary complexes. The stelas
at Abydos were set up in pairs though and do not feature the rounded top that we identify with the first
and second dynasties. These stelas depict the tomb owner and are inscribed with their title and name.
Looking at the funerary stela located in the Metropolitan Museum of art dated between the first and
fourth century is composed of limestone and found at Abydos. Anubis is depicted as she presents the
deceased to the enthroned Osiris (MET). Also depicted is the mourning goddesses Isis and Nephthys,
both very crudely executed and are merely silhouetted forms with oversized heads. This exaggeration
of form is suggested to represent the impact of the subject

The Wise Sea Poem Analysis
The Wise Men Speak
(An Analysis on Sailing)
William Butler Yeats, was a poet from the Victorian age. Philosophers say that Yeats was one of the
greatest poets of all time, William Butler Yeats is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of
the 20th century (Adams). One of Yeats most famous poem was Sailing to Byzantium. In the poem
Sailing, Yeats expresses three very important messages. The messages that Yeats expresses in Sailing
are, that the soul wants to leave body when it s about time to go, the elders are more wise, and that
younger generation doesn t listen to their elders. In the poem Sailing, Yeats expresses that as our body
ages our souls are ready to be set free. Our souls never age, but our bodies do. As our bodies start to
age our souls are ready to be set free from our aging bodies. Yeats states that when our souls are close
to being set free they start to sing, Soul clap its hands and sing, louder sing (11). The soul is
celebrating that it s about to be set free from its aging body. Our bodies are dead, but our souls
continue to live on. Dr. Duncan MacDougall of Haverhill, Massachusetts states, Human beings are
possessed of souls which depart their bodies after death and that these souls have detectable physical
presences were around well before the 20th century . Our souls continue to live after we are no longer
living. Another message represented in the poem Sailing, is that our elders are wise. Our elders are

Between 1971 1973, former president Richard Nixon imposed the New Economic Policy, which, for a

the second time it didn t work at all. Although Nixon resigned just four months after the crisis, price
controls on oil continued (Robertson). Initially, the new economic policy appeared to restrain some
wage and price pressures. In the policy s second phase, a 15 percent wage increase was granted for
coal miners . In February 1972, two dominant union leaders withdrew from the supervisory panels
created by the administration. Nixon had begun to alienate his own constituency. Milton Friedman
referred to the jerry built freeze and the controls as deeply and inherently immoral ... [because they]

and price controls. After the disappointing results of the failed price freeze, policymakers looked more

Major Feminist Criminological Perspectives
With the pass of the time, females are more involve in society. The amount of women s that stay at
home and don t go out for work has been reducing. At the same time, we see that women s have been
involved with some criminal events. Because of this, five major feminist criminological perspectives
have been creating. During this essay, three of this perspective will be exposed and explain. First,
these three perspectives will be mention and contrast from each other. Finally, these three perspectives
will be comparing with each other. First, one of the major feminist criminological perspectives is
Liberal Feminism. This attitude can be described as the first feminist perspective in criminology that
focuses on gender discrimination. Also, the general notion of this ... Show more content on

In other words, if a woman commits a crime should receive the same punishment that men receive
when he commits the same type of crime. At the same time, these liberal females challenged the
prevailing assumption that males and females have a different role in society. Another significant
feminist criminological perspective is Radical Feminism. This aspect deals with the way in which the
capitalist economic system fosters crime through the creation of a patriarchal and sexist society. This
perspective is that women have to stay at home as an unpaid housekeeping, and men have the right to
control women. In other words, women have to follow all the instructions and rules that her husband
establishes at the house. By this perspective, women s can exercise control over their bodies and the
restructuring family relationship in order to eliminate male domination. However, radical feminist
does not believe that women s liberation will increase female crime rates. Another important feminist
criminological perspective is Socialist Feminism. This view identifies the oppression of women as a
symptom of the patriarchal capitalist system. This aspect considered

The Execution Of A New Strategy
Execution of a new strategy is always a taxing task. It necessitates the possession of significant
resources, and also a well designed and engaged administrative composition. Good policy will
designate a specific person who or entity who is accountable for implementing the new policy. At the
outset of the execution of a new policy, a group should be identified that can oversee the new strategy
in all pertinent sectors of the organization to assure various efforts within management are
synchronized.
In Jordan, an expansion synchronization team was set up in the governmental bureau that collected
information from each of the government directorates within the kingdom s Education Ministry to
oversee the implementation of diverse programs connected to the education transformation that
included the ICT Plan that the government wished to develop (Ministry of Economics, 2008). In
Singapore, the Educational Technology Division teamed up with divisions within the government s
education ministry in such activities as curriculum preparation, development and training of teachers
in ICT and the execution of their long range and short range plans. In addition, the Ministry of
Education worked closely with the government agencies that are held responsible for the national ICT
grid and for increasing an aggressive ICT industry in Singapore (Coppock, Smith Howell, 2007).

Crime Rate And Its Effect On The Incarceration Rate
In our study, the independent variable is whether a state elects or appoints judges. The dependent
variable is the incarceration rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. To control for these variables, we
also measured the violent crime rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. The violent crime rate allows
us to see whether or not crime rate or judges are having a measurable effect on the incarceration rate.
Without controlling for the crime rate, we would not be able to tell if higher incarceration rates were
truly a result of elected judges, as crime rate would also be playing a significant part. This is because it
could be purely coincidental that violent crime rates are higher in states that also elect judges.
Therefore, if we didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The value of each variable is the number of people who are incarcerated per 100,000 people. No
mathematical equation or changes were made before entering it into the SPSS program, our statistical
test.
For our data, we chose to control for the violent crime in each state. We did this by using the violent
crime rate, which was measured similarly to the incarceration rate. We measured it by every 100,000
people for each of the 50 states. In order to code this, we used a range of 0 100,000. The variable can
be anywhere within the range and only represents the number of individuals who have committed
violent crime per 100,000 people per state. No type of equations or recoding was done before we
entered this data into the SPSS program. We used a linear regression as the statistical test to prove our
hypothesis. We chose to run a linear regression because the dependent variable, the incarceration rate,
had more than two values that could be used. This is because the incarceration rates could range
anywhere from 0 to 100,000 people. Therefore, it only made sense to use the linear regression. As
seen, the independent variable was whether a state elected or appointed judges. Further, the violent
crime rate (per 100,000 people) was the control variable. With the data above, we can conclude that
our hypothesis (which asserts that states that elect judges are more likely than those who appoint
judges to have higher

Shrek is the hero of my story. At the beginning of the story he is located at his home. He lives there
alone and he doesn t want any company, at all. Alot of other animals come to his home invading his

Lord Farquaad. Lord Farquaad is the person that the animals were trying to escape from, and that s
why they went to Shrek s home.
He accepts the call to adventure immediately, because he wanted to get all the other animals to leave.
That s is also what motivated him to accept the call. Donkey helps him on his journey, because he

Migration. I found few authors who published articles and books on Impacts of the Holocaust on
Jewish Migration. My goal in this research paper is to explore the topic of Jewish Migration by
connecting it to the Holocaust. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper in the chronological
order. I have tried to analyse reasons and barriers of the Migration of Jewish during the ten year
period. It starts with Hitler coming to power and ends with establishment of the State of Israel. In my
conclusion I tried to understand how modern world responds to Holocaust. The Holocaust is one of
the most tragic pages in the history of mankind and one of the greatest tragedies of the Jewish people
many children of survivors, who experienced their parents silence and avoidance of discussing the
past and their family s fate, felt this as a personal threat (Dalia Ofer10). Holocaust was a cold blooded
and pre deliberate decision to destroy a nation. It was estimated that during the Holocaust about 60%
of the total Jewish population of Europe was destroyed according to official memorial to the victims
of the Holocaust. It is not possible to establish the exact number of victims among the Jewish people
due to the lack of reliable data on the extent of the genocide ( Refugees. ). Jews were

Children Should Be Mandatory For Children
In 1998 Andrew Wakefield released a paper linking the MMR vaccine to autism. This article caused
panic among parents, leaving a trail of unvaccinated children. This trail eventually lead to a
nationwide outbreak of the measles virus. This is the worst outbreak the US has seen since 1994. Even
though Wakefield s publication has been discredited, there are still parents that choose not to protect
their children because of his study. These children not being vaccinated is hurting our nation by
lowering our herd immunity. It should be mandatory for children to receive vaccines. Children should
be vaccinated because the research is conclusive that vaccines do not cause autism, children benefit
from the vaccines, and help protect others who cannot be medically vaccinated. According to Tafuri,
Martinelli , Prato and Germinario (2011) the anti vaccination movement was started by Andrew
Wakefield in 1998. Wakefield published a paper in the Lancet of a study he conducted of twenty
patients. This published study determined that autism and some forms of colitis were caused by the
MMR vaccine (pg.1). Despite the fact the study has been discredited by medical professionals, and
retracted by the Lancet, parents are still choosing not to vaccinate their children based on these
falsified reports. Newer research reported by CNN as published by the British medical journal
determines Wakefield, misrepresented or altered the medical histories of all 12 of the patients whose

The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries
The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries
In its route from the heart to the tissues, the blood passes through channels of six foremost types:
elastic arteries, muscular arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins. I intend to explore the
structure and function of arteries, veins and capillaries. When an artery branches into smaller and
smaller vessels, eventually the blood vessel is too small to see with the naked eye. At that point, it is
called an arteriole. Likewise, a venule is a microscopic vein.
Arteries
All arteries are comprised of three different layers but the proportion and structure of each varies with
the size and function of the particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arteries, because of their elastic nature can stretch with systole or relax with diastole. Their elastic
property allows the arteries to oppose the force of the flow. The arteries can control (help form a
pulsatile) the flow so that when blood reaches the arterioles and eventually the capillaries the stream
of blood is milder. The wall of the arterioles contains less elastic fibres because the blood pressure
within the arterioles is lower. Arterioles have more smooth muscle cells than large arteries, which
allow blood to pass through them and on to the capillaries efficiently because friction is reduced.
Veins =====
Veins and venules are similar in structure to arteries and arterioles, however veins have a wider inner
diameter, which means that they can hold a larger volume of blood. Since it would be unworkable to
get all the blood back to the heart as quickly as it left the heart (because there is no pumping
mechanism to do so); veins have to be able to hold more blood than arteries. The veins provide a
storage area for our blood, which is why the diameter of the veins is larger than the artery diameter. At
any given time, the majority of our blood is within our veins.
Veins have a thinner smooth muscle layer that allows for the expansion of the vessels and minimize
resistance by reducing

Lifelong Benefits Of Reading
Reading Has Lifelong Benefits
We are alone when we don t read. Lots of people read as a hobby. But have people ever thought of the
lifelong benefits of reading? Reading has many lifelong benefits; therefore, reading is very
fundamental, reading can make some people calmer, and a brain can stay sharp.
Reading is very fundamental. If people read a lot, other places in the brain will increase as well. In the
article The Long Term Effects of Skipping Your Reading Homework, Pamela state s, Reading makes
kids better at math. A british study found that students who read for pleasure not only had a better
vocabulary and spelling which is to be expected but that those students were also more proficient in
math. It makes sense that reading helps kids at math because if they are good at one subject, then they
can be good at multiple subjects. When people read, it can improve their spelling and vocabulary
because the more words they read, the more words they could learn. If someone doesn t know a word,
then they might look the word up and figure out what the word means. Then they will possibly have
learned a new word. Pamela DeLoatch wrote that reading can boost self esteem and communication
skills, One educated provider says that since students who read usually have enhanced vocabulary,
they can often find the words to express themselves and do not feel as frustrated and angry. If one kid
or adult is having a bad day, they might pick up a book and start reading. If the person

The s Argument On The Existence Of Evil
Blackburn is right to claim that the existence of evil strongly suggests that there does not exist a god
who is all good, all knowing and all powerful. Blackburn s claim is created out of his beliefs mixed in
with the ideas of other minds, in order to come to the conclusion that there does not exist a god who is
AAA. Blackburn s claim is solidified by the problem of evil which logically counters the idea of an
AAA God. The PoE is a clear defense to the idea of a God, since logically speaking, God wouldn t
allow evil to exist if he was AAA. So in this people must go completely on faith in order to believe
that there is an AAA God.
Blackburn s analogy to faith is based around a terrible dormitory. A dormitory with a terrible
environment, filled with suffering students, who look unto a management office where no one ever
leaves. The idea of the manager in the office reflects the idea of God. Perhaps the manager is unable to
help the students, or perhaps unwilling, or even enjoying their suffering. Similar to people looking to
God with their misfortune, the students will look unto the office hoping for something to change.
Moreover, Blackburn discusses the idea of faith with this analogy. Faith which is what holds people
together in times of evil, and gets them to believe in a God, is what the students will clinge to in the
dorm. The idea that they ll be rewarded for their behavior this semester, next semester is completely
based off of faith. The idea parallels the faith

Controversies Surrounding Classification of Disorders Essay
Controversies Surrounding Classification
Theories of Psychopathology
HS513 T302
March 25, 2012
Abstract
The DSM is used as a standard of reference for psychological diagnosis. The DSM was originally
published in 1952 containing only 106 diagnoses; today the revised DSM IV TR contains 365
diagnoses. Throughout the history of the DSM, individuals in the mental health profession have relied
on it for clarification of disorders, facilitating research, improving communication with other
professionals and improving the collection of clinical information. With a new DSM V underway,
there has been a lot of issues surrounding the contents and classifications of the new DSM. There are

As time changes, the DSM has changed to fit society s needs as well as acceptance.
The first major controversy concerning classifications of mental disorders is the debate over
dimensions vs. categories. According to the APA (2000), DSM IV is a categorical classification that
divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features. Categories have
been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional
model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically
to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other
genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the
dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal,
cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a
particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997). The second major issue related to
classifications of mental disorders is the classification of the disorder vs. the classification of the
individual. When speaking about the classification of an individual, it stigmatizes the individual.

Prometheus Bound By Aeschylus
In Aeschylus Prometheus Bound, Zeus is portrayed as a brutal and vengeful tyrant. His tyranny is
mostly shown through the punishment of Prometheus. Zeus saw Prometheus giving humans fire as
betrayal and as revenge, punished Prometheus by pinning him to a rocky mountain in the Caucasus.
Instead of carrying out the punishment himself, Zeus had Might, Violence, and Hephaestus (who was
also Prometheus friend) carry it out instead. As stated in lines 13 18. Hephaestus was against
punishing Prometheus in such a violent, tortuous way, however, he still did it because he feared Zeus.
Prometheus was bound in an open area, where other gods could easily come to watch. Binding
Prometheus in such an area showed Zeus tyranny because like any other tyrant, Zeus was able to
instill fear into the other gods by showing what could happen if they betrayed him. As mentioned in
lines, 427 430, Zeus s harsh tyranny is also shown through the punishment of Atlas. Similar to
Prometheus, after betraying Zeus, Atlas was forced to carry the sky on his shoulders.

Parallels Between the United States of America and Canada
There are many parallel between the United States of America and Canada. For instance they were
both former possessions of the British crown, they speak mostly English, and they both had to deal
with Native Americans. But one important difference is how they treated their native population
during Western expansion. The Americans treated the Natives Americans like they were below them.
The made treaties with the natives only to ultimately break them, the engaged in open war with the
natives, and generally didn t respect them. While, in direct contrast, the Canadians honored treaties,
generally did not engage in war with the natives, and respected them as individuals. According to
Keith Walden, who is a history professor at Trent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important factor during Western expansion was the role of the American sheriff. This person
was responsible for upholding the law and keeping order. The sheriff was sometimes elected but more
often than not he was put into place by the elite who were in charge of the local municipality. This
often led to incompetence and corruption. Consequently, this meant that Indian relations suffered.
Indians were not treated with the respect that they deserved, and were often taken advantage of. On
the other side of the 49th parallel this was a vastly different story. In Canada the North West Mounted
Police, a British tradition, and former Indian relations seemed to be the major reasons that the Indians
were treated differently. The North West Mounted Police, or the Mounties, had a similar role to that of
the American Sheriff. They were in charge of maintaining law and order, but they were also
responsible in maintain the border between the United States and Canada. This was a physical
geographic border, but also a border, or different identity, between what it meant to be Canadian and
what it meant to be American. A big portion of this was the way that the Mounties treated the Indian
population. The respected the Indians as humans. Meaning that they honored formally signed treaties
made with the Indians, and treated the Indians with respect; not as pawns in the way of Manifest
Destiny. But they also asserted Canadian law

The movie Kramer vs. Kramer follows a young married couple living in New York. The wife s name

The film that I watched is 《The Memoir of a Geisha》, and it was released in the United States on
December 9, 2005. The director of this film is Rob Marshall, and 2 main characters in the movie are
Sayuri (starring by Ziyi Zhang) and Hatsumomo (Gong Li). Although this film is produced by
American directors, the origin of the story is in Japan. By the year when Chiyo is nine, her father
reluctantly sold her and her sister to a geisha house because of poverty. In that geisha house, she is
forced to do the cleaning every day with no return, until one day she achieves higher hierarchy and is
able to serve the customers. This story happened during the World War II. At first, the victory of
German army brings hope to its allies Japan, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are the ritualization in Japanese culture, women s implicit expression of love, women s hierarchy
in 18th Japan, and how the landscape of Japan influences the prosperity of Geisha culture. Unlike the
enthusiastic Western women, women grew up in oriental culture often have more restrained and gentle
attitude, and this is one of the most symbolic cultural landscapes in Japan. In the movie, Sayuri chases
for love and all she wants to do is to get closer to the Chairman. In fact, before the end of the story,
she only sees chairman a few times in all, but she has strong faith to be with him. It could even be said
that her whole life started from the few minutes of their encounters on the bridge. This is the typical
oriental love, implicit but deeply passionate. Another cultural issue that is mentioned in the film is
ritualization. In the film, the Colonel is impressed by the importance of rituals in Japan. This
ritualization is shown completely in this film. For example, In the other places, it is rare to see clients
and geisha bowing to each other before the intercourse, but this is a norm in Japan. So it could be said
one significant factor in Japanese culture is idealization, and Geisha is a component of this fantasy.
They are pulled out from themselves as women and then become an illusory form. When Sayuri wears
the twelve layers of elegant kimonos with exquisite makeup, stepped on those expensive black
wooden clogs,

Genesis Chapter 24-11 Analysis
It is fair to assume that because of their different tasks, they spent their working hours in very different
environments, had to adopt different ways of dressing, used different tools, and perhaps even had
different diets and associations. The exact reasons are not given to us in the immediate account but
Cain s elements were not accepted favorably and ... the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his
offering. (Gen 4:4, KJV). For that, Cain became visibly and aggressively upset. Apparently he was not
happy that his way was not given the respect of being the central standard and over time did rise up
and kill Abel. They were siblings living in the same household, under the same guidance and direction
yet they both worked and identified their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boris Bizumic in his commentaries of the early users of the term ethnocentrism notes that Ludwig
Gumplowicz wrote in 1883, So far most writing of history is dominated by limited ethnocentric
viewpoints. . . . One can comfortably say that the largest part of historical writing so far actually has
only sprung from this subjective need of human beings to glorify their own and nearest and at the
same time humiliate and sully what is foreign and distant (Bizumic). Bizumic notes that in
Gumplowicz s many examples of this need for glorification he pointed out ethnocentrism among all
cultures. He saw it in the ancient Greeks, who believed that all other groups are barbarian, such as
Aristotle s claim that positive qualities are perfectly balanced only in Greeks, where other groups are
somewhat deficient in positive qualities. He also saw ethnocentrism in Hegel s statement that Germans
represent the objective spirit and therefore may seem as godlike, ethnocentrism among the French,
who believed themselves to be more civilized than other groups (Bizumic). Both Hegel and Aristotle
wrote much and felt strongly on the unique place of humans in the grand scheme of things and among
other animals. Very anthropocentristic, yet even among all the other rational and free cultures of the

Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology
We live in the world of smart TVs, smart phones, smart cars, but are those technologies making us
smarter? Many people today are worried that technologies do more harm than good, and that they
change our brain for the worse. However, people have been coping with technologies for decades. In
fact, James Robert Flynn, a New Zealand intelligence researcher says that, Over the past 100 years,
Americans mean IQ has been on a slow but steady climb. The average person of 2012 had a higher IQ
than 95 percent of the population had in 1900 (30). This statement leads us to a thought that, perhaps,
our modern technologies play a positive role in our intelligence. Technology became very complex
over the past couple of decades and all of us are using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents might blame their children s memory and attention problems on video games. And they can be
right, but only if a child spends too much time over playing. The same can be said about watching
television. Too much of anything is bad for us, and therefore video games should not be blamed for
attention problems. In fact, one study from a Current Biology journal shows that dyslexic children
trained on action video games show significant improvements on basic measures of both attention and
reading ability, which shows that action games can increase our attention to details and even be used
as a treatment for dyslexic children (R282). Others say that video games lead to violence. Susan
Scutti, CNN reporter mentions a warning from American Academy of Pediatrics in her article Do
video games lead to violence? which states that Video games should not use human or other living
targets or award points for killing, because this teaches children to associate pleasure and success with
their ability to cause pain and suffering to others (Scutti). However, there is not enough evidence to
prove that violent games make children more violent. As a matter of fact, Scutti also mentions
Whitney DeCamp, an associate professor of sociology at Western Michigan University who examined
over six thousand eight graders in his study and discovered that video games, no matter how bloody,
did not predict violent

Alexis Conso Research Paper
March was a busy month on Harper 2 but that didn t stop Alexis Fregoso. During the month of March
Alexis showed some great leadership by helping other residents on the floor study. Also Alexis was a
great advocate for my St. Patrick s Day event. He helped advertise it by word of mouth to a good
majority of my residents. Alexis has always shown support of my programs and he has nearly attended
every single one. Alexis is such a wonderful asset to my floor and he always brings such a bubbly and
interesting personality. He is great to have ad events especially one s I would like to get more
attendance to. Alexis also is a great role model to others on the floor. He frequently will go around and
check up on everyone to make sure they are okay and having a good day. I ve noticed that if he sees

Well Alexis is your guy. Alexis knows a great deal about cars and he has helped countless of my
residents with their car troubles. Not only has he helped my residents, he has also helped me. A couple
days before spring break, I decided to change the spark plugs in my car. Even though Alexis had three
tests the week before spring break he still was able to help me with my car. He really puts others
above himself. Another thing I love about Alexis is that he won t just leave you high and dry in a time
of need. When we changed the spark plugs in my car we must have smashed a valve because my car
could not be driven. By the time we noticed this problem it was time to go home for spring break. Not
only did Alexis go out of his way to help me change my spark plugs and help me figure out my
problem, he also drove me two hours home so I could enjoy my spring break with my family. He then
picked me and took me back to school at the conclusion of spring break. I couldn t thank him enough
for this wonderful deed he performed for me. I am very grateful I have Alexis on my floor as a
resident and now he s become a very close

The Paul Of The Apostle Paul
The apostle Paul was known to many as Saul of Tarsus. There is no doubt he was born to Jewish
parents whose residence was in the city of Tarsus of Cilicia. In the Book of Acts 23:6, his own
admission relates that he was a Hebrew of Hebrews, but he was also a son of a Pharisee. In Phil. 3:4 5,
Paul states that he was from the tribe of Benjamin. At an early age, Paul was taught in tent making
according to Acts 18:3. At an early age, he was sent to Jerusalem to study under a well known teacher
by the name of Gamaliel (Acts 22:3). Paul was an expert in the Jewish religion, which he followed
through his family (Gal. 1:14). Once Paul graduated, he became a very zealous religious Jew. The aim
of Paul s trade was to see the church persecuted. In Acts 7:58 83, readers are reminded that Paul was
present when Stephen was stoned and killed. Saul carried a warrant from the High Priest so he could
go against the people of the early Christian church (Acts 26:10 11). Paul might have been a Roman
citizen, but he was cultured in the Greek way of doing things. This can be found in Acts 17:28. Paul
knew the mindset of many Greek thoughts and sayings in his time. The conversion of Saul to Paul was
a dramatic one. In one of his missions on the road to Damascus, Paul encounters the risen Jesus Christ,
which changed his entire life from then on. He was never the same person that people had known
before. Jesus enters into Paul s life and he decides to dedicate the rest of his life for the service

Anglo Saxon Warrior Analysis
The Expectations of an Anglo Saxon Warrior
Paul Watson stated, I do what I do because it is the right thing to do. I am a warrior, and it is the way
of the warrior to fight superior odds . In this quote, Paul Watson is describing the duty of a warrior.
People have many assumptions as to what warrior s expectations were back in the Anglo Saxon Era.
Warriors did whatever it took to finish their duty. In the poems, The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and
Beowulf, warriors were big parts of the stories. Learning about what their expectations included was
very helpful in determining the kind of people they were. Warriors in the Anglo Saxon Era were very
loyal and brave to their kings and or higher powers. Warriors were also known for traveling great
distances in certain circumstances. In all three poems, the expectations for warriors remained the
same.
Bravery can be shown throughout all three stories. Bravery can be described as courageous behavior
or character. Epic heros were not the only people known for their bravery. Warriors showed bravery
just as equally. In The Seafarer, it states, But there isn t a man on earth so proud/ So born with
greatness, so bold with his youth/ Grown so brave, or so graced by God ( The Seafarer 39 41). In The
Wanderer, it states, Though woefully toiling on wintry seas/ With churning oar in the icy wave/
Homeless and helpless he fled from fate ( The Wanderer 3 5). In this quote from The Wanderer , the
man has no motivation but he is brave

  • 5. Kant Good Will The value of an action varies in regards to the qualifications of such. Mill found value in the consequentialist motives of an instrumental utilitarianistic will; Socrates emphasized the refinement of virtues in the proceeding actions of good men. Immanuel Kant took a differing approach to this, boldly stating that a good will is the only thing with full value in itself (394); making the claim that the source of value lies solely within the motive of the action itself. While earlier philosophers emphasized happiness as the end goal of all humanity, Kant sought after the fallacy in these claims. If, even with man s best effort, nothing is achieved, any process of good will must be regarded as such (394). This marks a definite shift in philosophical thought; the consideration of good without any remark on the consequences of one s actions and thoughts. Kant does not emphasize the creation of happiness as the goal of one s choices, since happiness is a subjective marker open to corruption (396). Multiple actions can produce this result, while the same action can differ in its consequences. This uncertainty necessitates a different, more concrete definition of moral value. Value then, can be derived in the purity of one s motivation. Regardless of the outcome of such, intentions of good will can never be unappreciated as lesser than. It exists as the foundation of all that can be regarded as valuable, and must be the first step in the evaluation of the quality of one s actions. When one acts from duty, rather than simply alongside of it, their actions have moral value (397 8). • 8. Designing An Original Toy For Children Aged Eight And Under Introduction As a part of our final project for GEEN 1400 Engineering Projects, we had to design an original toy for children aged eight and under. Each group has to come up with a new toy which has not yet existed. The toy requires the implementation of engineering skills in its manufacturing and design process. Some of those competence are obtained from in class workshops or personal experience, though students are also allowed to take workshops outside of class, in the ITLL, or Idea Forge. Several of the skills most groups require are: laser cutting, CAD, electronics, 3D printing, etc. Not everyone in the group possesses skills for all aspects of the project. Students divide among themselves and each member takes over a part of the project, however, team members still communicate with each other in completing their tasks. Later, they piece in their parts and collaborate to figure out remaining tasks and possible improvements to the project. The deadline for this project is the Design Expo where students present their project to judges visiting from local companies. Our section s theme of the final project is toys, particularly for those aged eight and under. Therefore, we wanted to construct a toy which is fun, yet suitable for children within that age group. We decided to design an LED maze for our final project. It primarily consist of a hockey themed maze with several LED beams as barriers. It is expected that children with autism will struggle with establishing and maintain compensating relationships. Only half of children with autism who are in comprehensive classrooms are involved in the social networks of their classrooms. It s very difficult for children with autism to be in a classroom with children who don t have a disorder. Children with this sickness can t function just like everyone else; they need attentive care and affection. Children with autism are more likely to be isolated across all grade levels because, when they are in a room with too many people it gets overwhelming to him or her and we as a parent, peer, or teacher have to be understanding about that. The older he or she becomes with this sickness, the more isolate they become. However difficult interactions like friendship and relationships can be clear that the child and adolescents desire connections with others. Sadly there is no cure for autism spectrum disorder but there are multiple therapies. The most popular therapy is called ABA training. This is the most widely accepted autism therapy. ABA is based on the idea that people are more likely to repeat behaviors that are rewarded than behaviors that are not recognized or are ignored. A trained therapist conducts ABA training. • 16. Mao Zedong Of The World Essay Though Mao Zedong would argue the people wield the power to change history, they do not. Perhaps they should, but that concerns epistemological questions. And while elements of Mao s perspective that the people comprise the motive force in the making of world history wafted around in compelling the U.S. to intervene in Iraq in 2003, it is not a sufficient explanation. The people did not form the chief reason for the Iraqi campaign, and certainly did not originate the intervention alone , as Mao s philosophy would suggest. Alternatively, Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle contends, The history of the world is but the biography of great men. He rightly locates the locus of watershed moments in history: great men. At the very least, a few powerful men ultimately control the people s destiny both near to and far from home. In reality, a small, elite group of individuals set the agenda for world order. As evidenced by the 2003 Iraq War, a tight circle of plutocrats the president, his advisors, and those with skin in the financial game can steer the course for two entire nations for a decade. The Bush Doctrine vastly expanded what the United States deems a vital interest dragging preëmptive action, unilateralism, and anti terrorism under its umbrella. Democratizing nations plays a critical role in the strategy as well. The messages that Yeats expresses in Sailing are, that the soul wants to leave body when it s about time to go, the elders are more wise, and that younger generation doesn t listen to their elders. In the poem Sailing, Yeats expresses that as our body ages our souls are ready to be set free. Our souls never age, but our bodies do. As our bodies start to age our souls are ready to be set free from our aging bodies. Yeats states that when our souls are close to being set free they start to sing, Soul clap its hands and sing, louder sing (11). The soul is celebrating that it s about to be set free from its aging body. Our bodies are dead, but our souls continue to live on. Dr. Duncan MacDougall of Haverhill, Massachusetts states, Human beings are possessed of souls which depart their bodies after death and that these souls have detectable physical presences were around well before the 20th century . Our souls continue to live after we are no longer living. Another message represented in the poem Sailing, is that our elders are wise. Our elders are wiser than the young because ... Between 1971 1973, former president Richard Nixon imposed the New Economic Policy, which, for a 90 day period, would freeze wages and prices in an effort to combat inflation. Although it seemed at first like the move had a lasting effect, inflation again became a problem once the controls were relaxed. Nixon again layed down the controls; this was in part because of the OPEC oil embargo, but the second time it didn t work at all. Although Nixon resigned just four months after the crisis, price controls on oil continued (Robertson). Initially, the new economic policy appeared to restrain some wage and price pressures. In the policy s second phase, a 15 percent wage increase was granted for coal miners . In February 1972, two dominant union leaders withdrew from the supervisory panels created by the administration. This aspect deals with the way in which the capitalist economic system fosters crime through the creation of a patriarchal and sexist society. This perspective is that women have to stay at home as an unpaid housekeeping, and men have the right to control women. In other words, women have to follow all the instructions and rules that her husband establishes at the house. By this perspective, women s can exercise control over their bodies and the restructuring family relationship in order to eliminate male domination. The dependent variable is the incarceration rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. To control for these variables, we also measured the violent crime rate (per 100,000 people) for each state. The violent crime rate allows us to see whether or not crime rate or judges are having a measurable effect on the incarceration rate. Without controlling for the crime rate, we would not be able to tell if higher incarceration rates were truly a result of elected judges, as crime rate would also be playing a significant part. This is because it could be purely coincidental that violent crime rates are higher in states that also elect judges. Therefore, if we didn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The value of each variable is the number of people who are incarcerated per 100,000 people. No mathematical equation or changes were made before entering it into the SPSS program, our statistical test. For our data, we chose to control for the violent crime in each state. We did this by using the violent crime rate, which was measured similarly to the incarceration rate. We measured it by every 100,000 people for each of the 50 states. In order to code this, we used a range of 0 100,000. The variable can be anywhere within the range and only represents the number of individuals who have committed violent crime per 100,000 people per state. No type of equations or recoding was done before we entered this data into the SPSS program. We used a linear regression as the statistical test to prove our hypothesis. We chose to run a linear regression because the dependent variable, the incarceration rate, had more than two values that could be used. This is because the incarceration rates could range anywhere from 0 to 100,000 people. Therefore, it only made sense to use the linear regression. As seen, the independent variable was whether a state elected or appointed judges. Further, the violent crime rate (per 100,000 people) was the control variable. With the data above, we can conclude that our hypothesis (which asserts that states that elect judges are more likely than those who appoint judges to have higher ... This article caused panic among parents, leaving a trail of unvaccinated children. This trail eventually lead to a nationwide outbreak of the measles virus. This is the worst outbreak the US has seen since 1994. Even though Wakefield s publication has been discredited, there are still parents that choose not to protect their children because of his study. These children not being vaccinated is hurting our nation by lowering our herd immunity. It should be mandatory for children to receive vaccines. Children should be vaccinated because the research is conclusive that vaccines do not cause autism, children benefit from the vaccines, and help protect others who cannot be medically vaccinated. According to Tafuri, Martinelli , Prato and Germinario (2011) the anti vaccination movement was started by Andrew Wakefield in 1998. Wakefield published a paper in the Lancet of a study he conducted of twenty patients. This published study determined that autism and some forms of colitis were caused by the MMR vaccine (pg.1). Despite the fact the study has been discredited by medical professionals, and retracted by the Lancet, parents are still choosing not to vaccinate their children based on these falsified reports. The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries The Structure and Function Of Arteries, Veins and Capillaries In its route from the heart to the tissues, the blood passes through channels of six foremost types: elastic arteries, muscular arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins. I intend to explore the structure and function of arteries, veins and capillaries. When an artery branches into smaller and smaller vessels, eventually the blood vessel is too small to see with the naked eye. At that point, it is called an arteriole. Likewise, a venule is a microscopic vein. Arteries All arteries are comprised of three different layers but the proportion and structure of each varies with the size and function of the particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arteries, because of their elastic nature can stretch with systole or relax with diastole. Their elastic property allows the arteries to oppose the force of the flow. The arteries can control (help form a pulsatile) the flow so that when blood reaches the arterioles and eventually the capillaries the stream of blood is milder. The wall of the arterioles contains less elastic fibres because the blood pressure within the arterioles is lower. Arterioles have more smooth muscle cells than large arteries, which allow blood to pass through them and on to the capillaries efficiently because friction is reduced. Veins ===== Veins and venules are similar in structure to arteries and arterioles, however veins have a wider inner diameter, which means that they can hold a larger volume of blood. Since it would be unworkable to get all the blood back to the heart as quickly as it left the heart (because there is no pumping mechanism to do so); veins have to be able to hold more blood than arteries. The veins provide a storage area for our blood, which is why the diameter of the veins is larger than the artery diameter. At any given time, the majority of our blood is within our veins. Veins have a thinner smooth muscle layer that allows for the expansion of the vessels and minimize resistance by reducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reading has many lifelong benefits; therefore, reading is very fundamental, reading can make some people calmer, and a brain can stay sharp. Reading is very fundamental. If people read a lot, other places in the brain will increase as well. In the article The Long Term Effects of Skipping Your Reading Homework, Pamela state s, Reading makes kids better at math. A british study found that students who read for pleasure not only had a better vocabulary and spelling which is to be expected but that those students were also more proficient in math. When people read, it can improve their spelling and vocabulary because the more words they read, the more words they could learn. If someone doesn t know a word, then they might look the word up and figure out what the word means. Then they will possibly have learned a new word. • 33. The s Argument On The Existence Of Evil Blackburn is right to claim that the existence of evil strongly suggests that there does not exist a god who is all good, all knowing and all powerful. Blackburn s claim is created out of his beliefs mixed in with the ideas of other minds, in order to come to the conclusion that there does not exist a god who is AAA. Blackburn s claim is solidified by the problem of evil which logically counters the idea of an AAA God. The PoE is a clear defense to the idea of a God, since logically speaking, God wouldn t allow evil to exist if he was AAA. So in this people must go completely on faith in order to believe that there is an AAA God. Blackburn s analogy to faith is based around a terrible dormitory. A dormitory with a terrible environment, filled with suffering students, who look unto a management office where no one ever leaves. The idea of the manager in the office reflects the idea of God. Perhaps the manager is unable to help the students, or perhaps unwilling, or even enjoying their suffering. Similar to people looking to God with their misfortune, the students will look unto the office hoping for something to change. Moreover, Blackburn discusses the idea of faith with this analogy. The idea that they ll be rewarded for their behavior this semester, next semester is completely based off of faith. The idea parallels the faith ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the history of the DSM, individuals in the mental health profession have relied on it for clarification of disorders, facilitating research, improving communication with other professionals and improving the collection of clinical information. As time changes, the DSM has changed to fit society s needs as well as acceptance. The first major controversy concerning classifications of mental disorders is the debate over dimensions vs. categories. According to the APA (2000), DSM IV is a categorical classification that divides mental disorders into types based on criterion sets with defining features. Categories have been utilized in the past DSMs, however there has been much debate on changing to the dimensional model. The debate stems from the notion that in order for a categorical diagnosis to relate specifically to a disorder, the pathology would have to have been largely resilient to the influence of many other genetic and environmental influences (Widiger Sankis, 2000). On the contrast, utilizing the dimensional model for a diagnosis would utilize a wide variety of neurochemical, interpersonal, cognitive, and other mediating and moderating variables that help to develop, shape, and form a particular individual s psychopathology profile (Andreasen, 1997). The second major issue related to classifications of mental disorders is the classification of the disorder vs. the classification of the individual. Prometheus was bound in an open area, where other gods could easily come to watch. Binding Prometheus in such an area showed Zeus tyranny because like any other tyrant, Zeus was able to instill fear into the other gods by showing what could happen if they betrayed him. Consequently, this meant that Indian relations suffered. Indians were not treated with the respect that they deserved, and were often taken advantage of. In Canada the North West Mounted Police, a British tradition, and former Indian relations seemed to be the major reasons that the Indians were treated differently. • 40. Memoir Of A Geisha Essay The film that I watched is 《The Memoir of a Geisha》, and it was released in the United States on December 9, 2005. The director of this film is Rob Marshall, and 2 main characters in the movie are Sayuri (starring by Ziyi Zhang) and Hatsumomo (Gong Li). Although this film is produced by American directors, the origin of the story is in Japan. By the year when Chiyo is nine, her father reluctantly sold her and her sister to a geisha house because of poverty. In that geisha house, she is forced to do the cleaning every day with no return, until one day she achieves higher hierarchy and is able to serve the customers. This story happened during the World War II. At first, the victory of German army brings hope to its allies Japan, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are the ritualization in Japanese culture, women s implicit expression of love, women s hierarchy in 18th Japan, and how the landscape of Japan influences the prosperity of Geisha culture. Unlike the enthusiastic Western women, women grew up in oriental culture often have more restrained and gentle attitude, and this is one of the most symbolic cultural landscapes in Japan. In the movie, Sayuri chases for love and all she wants to do is to get closer to the Chairman. In fact, before the end of the story, she only sees chairman a few times in all, but she has strong faith to be with him. It could even be said that her whole life started from the few minutes of their encounters on the bridge. This is the typical oriental love, implicit but deeply passionate. Another cultural issue that is mentioned in the film is ritualization. In the film, the Colonel is impressed by the importance of rituals in Japan. This ritualization is shown completely in this film. For example, In the other places, it is rare to see clients and geisha bowing to each other before the intercourse, but this is a norm in Japan. So it could be said one significant factor in Japanese culture is idealization, and Geisha is a component of this fantasy. They are pulled out from themselves as women and then become an illusory form. • 41. Genesis Chapter 24-11 Analysis It is fair to assume that because of their different tasks, they spent their working hours in very different environments, had to adopt different ways of dressing, used different tools, and perhaps even had different diets and associations. The exact reasons are not given to us in the immediate account but Cain s elements were not accepted favorably and ... the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering. (Gen 4:4, KJV). For that, Cain became visibly and aggressively upset. Apparently he was not happy that his way was not given the respect of being the central standard and over time did rise up and kill Abel. Boris Bizumic in his commentaries of the early users of the term ethnocentrism notes that Ludwig Gumplowicz wrote in 1883, So far most writing of history is dominated by limited ethnocentric viewpoints. . . . One can comfortably say that the largest part of historical writing so far actually has only sprung from this subjective need of human beings to glorify their own and nearest and at the same time humiliate and sully what is foreign and distant (Bizumic). Bizumic notes that in Gumplowicz s many examples of this need for glorification he pointed out ethnocentrism among all cultures. He saw it in the ancient Greeks, who believed that all other groups are barbarian, such as Aristotle s claim that positive qualities are perfectly balanced only in Greeks, where other groups are somewhat deficient in positive qualities. He also saw ethnocentrism in Hegel s statement that Germans represent the objective spirit and therefore may seem as godlike, ethnocentrism among the French, who believed themselves to be more civilized than other groups (Bizumic). Both Hegel and Aristotle wrote much and felt strongly on the unique place of humans in the grand scheme of things and among other animals. • 42. Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology We live in the world of smart TVs, smart phones, smart cars, but are those technologies making us smarter? Many people today are worried that technologies do more harm than good, and that they change our brain for the worse. However, people have been coping with technologies for decades. In fact, James Robert Flynn, a New Zealand intelligence researcher says that, Over the past 100 years, Americans mean IQ has been on a slow but steady climb. The average person of 2012 had a higher IQ than 95 percent of the population had in 1900 (30). This statement leads us to a thought that, perhaps, our modern technologies play a positive role in our intelligence. Technology became very complex over the past couple of decades and all of us are using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parents might blame their children s memory and attention problems on video games. And they can be right, but only if a child spends too much time over playing. The same can be said about watching television. Too much of anything is bad for us, and therefore video games should not be blamed for attention problems. In fact, one study from a Current Biology journal shows that dyslexic children trained on action video games show significant improvements on basic measures of both attention and reading ability, which shows that action games can increase our attention to details and even be used as a treatment for dyslexic children (R282). Others say that video games lead to violence. Susan Scutti, CNN reporter mentions a warning from American Academy of Pediatrics in her article Do video games lead to violence? which states that Video games should not use human or other living targets or award points for killing, because this teaches children to associate pleasure and success with their ability to cause pain and suffering to others (Scutti). However, there is not enough evidence to prove that violent games make children more violent. As a matter of fact, Scutti also mentions Whitney DeCamp, an associate professor of sociology at Western Michigan University who examined over six thousand eight graders in his study and discovered that video games, no matter how bloody, did not predict violent ... • 44. The Paul Of The Apostle Paul The apostle Paul was known to many as Saul of Tarsus. There is no doubt he was born to Jewish parents whose residence was in the city of Tarsus of Cilicia. In the Book of Acts 23:6, his own admission relates that he was a Hebrew of Hebrews, but he was also a son of a Pharisee. In Phil. 3:4 5, Paul states that he was from the tribe of Benjamin. At an early age, Paul was taught in tent making according to Acts 18:3. At an early age, he was sent to Jerusalem to study under a well known teacher by the name of Gamaliel (Acts 22:3). Paul was an expert in the Jewish religion, which he followed through his family (Gal. 1:14). Once Paul graduated, he became a very zealous religious Jew. The aim of Paul s trade was to see the church persecuted. In Acts 7:58 83, readers are reminded that Paul was present when Stephen was stoned and killed. Saul carried a warrant from the High Priest so he could go against the people of the early Christian church (Acts 26:10 11). Paul might have been a Roman citizen, but he was cultured in the Greek way of doing things. This can be found in Acts 17:28. Paul knew the mindset of many Greek thoughts and sayings in his time. The conversion of Saul to Paul was a dramatic one. In one of his missions on the road to Damascus, Paul encounters the risen Jesus Christ, which changed his entire life from then on. He was never the same person that people had known before. Jesus enters into Paul s life and he decides to dedicate the rest of his life for the service ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Anglo Saxon Warrior Analysis The Expectations of an Anglo Saxon Warrior Paul Watson stated, I do what I do because it is the right thing to do. I am a warrior, and it is the way of the warrior to fight superior odds . In this quote, Paul Watson is describing the duty of a warrior. People have many assumptions as to what warrior s expectations were back in the Anglo Saxon Era. Warriors did whatever it took to finish their duty. In the poems, The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and Beowulf, warriors were big parts of the stories. Learning about what their expectations included was very helpful in determining the kind of people they were. Warriors in the Anglo Saxon Era were very loyal and brave to their kings and or higher powers. Warriors were also known for traveling great distances in certain circumstances. In all three poems, the expectations for warriors remained the same. Bravery can be shown throughout all three stories. Bravery can be described as courageous behavior or character. Epic heros were not the only people known for their bravery. Warriors showed bravery just as equally. In The Seafarer, it states, But there isn t a man on earth so proud/ So born with greatness, so bold with his youth/ Grown so brave, or so graced by God ( The Seafarer 39 41). In The Wanderer, it states, Though woefully toiling on wintry seas/ With churning oar in the icy wave/ Homeless and helpless he fled from fate ( The Wanderer 3 5). In this quote from The Wanderer , the man has no motivation but he is brave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
