Pre Colonial America Summary
Pre Modern Colonial America In The Radicalism of the American Revolution, Gordan S. Wood
creates an in depth analysis of why colonial America could be classified as a pre modern society. He
presents a thorough argument for how hierarchal trends and patriarchal dependency of the colonists
emphasized the more traditional culture of the early Americans. The colonists had created a society in
which there was a deep prevalence for British customs, such as, reverence for the king, the inheritance
of land and status, the strength of a household, and the importance of rank (Wood 12, 16, 46, 18).
Before the revolution, America resembled its native England; once they had severed ties and moved
forward with their own form of government with confidence, pre modern America initiated the first
steps to become a truly independent and modern nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By building up their family trees, colonial Americans were able to use their kinship as an advantage in
a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the manipulation of politics (Wood 48). This was due
to the patriarchal dependency of most of the citizens; in colonial America the familial household was
the center of society and the strength of it. The patriarchal tradition of the society creates a system in
which the institutions mimic households; that created a society that was dependent on a head because
no man was independent in and of himself

How Independent Consultants Fill The Gap And Complement...
I am presently working on a business plan to provide college admission guidance as an independent
professional. There are countless media headlines on how the increased complexity of the college
application process and the competitive results for admissions requires students to receive more
guidance while the ratio of students to school counselors increases. This paper aims to explore some
ways that independent consultants fill the gap and complement high school counseling. I used
interviews and questionnaires to elicit information. I contacted several counselors in public and
private schools to get the profiles of families that seek outside assistance with the college application
process and to understand how best to arrange a collaboration between counselors for the benefit of
the student. Through questionnaires, I asked families of current high school students, rising college
freshmen, and rising college sophomores which aspects of the process warrant more support. I also
reviewed articles and books on the subject to identify the key areas where students need additional
assistance with college admissions planning. The surveys and decision matrices I used are available to
assist counselors, students, and families.
Background/Issue
The National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) identifies that school
counselors play a crucial role in creating a college going culture. However, with a national student to
counselor ratio of 471:1 in public

Summary Of The Poem Sailing To Byzantium
Sailing to Byzantium
W.B. Yeats poem Sailing to Byzantium presents his concerned about the progression of time and how
someone can become eternal. Yeats lived from 1865 to 1939; so this poem, which was composed in
1926 at age 60, which reflects his fear about aging and becoming immaterial. The narrator of this
poem seems concerned with the idea of the human condition, that we are born, we live, and then we
die . The narrator seeks out a place where he will be able to join the monuments of history, so that he
could survive endlessly. He emphasized a deeper journey of an old man seeking to escape the idle and
uneducated society of Europe. Thereafter, the poet sails to a place called Byzantium, the ancient name
for current day Istanbul. He chose Byzantium, because of its well known history, a place of paradise
and the only place where art and man can become a single body. Thus, he hopes that by becoming an
artificial object himself, he can setback the human condition.
The first stanza of the poem references the impermanence of the natural world, and the fact that
everything must one day meet an end. In the sentence That is no country for old men, the word that
indicates both Ireland and natural world in general. He depicted the country he left behind, as full of
young people, birds, and fish, but he knew that whatever is begotten, born, and dies . The young don t
think about what might happen after death because they are caught up in life. They act as if they

How Technology Affected Canada s Economy
After the First World War, Canada s economy was in a rough state. Steel and chemical plants shut
down due to low demand, and weapon factories were no longer required. This resulted in the
unemployment of many people, and left Canada in an economic depression. The rise of technology
played a substantial role in taking Canada out of the post war depression. The mass production of
automobiles, assembly lines, and the use of this machinery assisted in economic growth. However,
technology still had a negative effect on the Canadian economy during the 1920 s as it caused the rise
of consumerism, required continuous input of money to further support it, and replaced people s jobs.
Firstly, technology caused the rise of consumerism. Technology altered the economy from a war based
to a consumer based economy, The economy shifted to a consumer based economy instead of the need
to build weapons for the war, (Lowenstein). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

automobiles, 10% of the salary of an average person was spent on gas, (Finch). The early model cars
such as the Ford Model T would require a lot of gas to run, so a lot of money was spent on gas for the
cars to run. Furthermore, most technology required power, so people needed to buy batteries. This

Applying An Analytical Model Of A Plane Wall
Abstract
To conduct a proper analysis of the 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall we must take the
necessary mathematical procedures to obtain an analytical model that accurately represents the heat
transfer that occurs. The equation must accurately model a plane wall that has a thickness L, is well
insulated on one side, but is still vulnerable to convection on the other side. In order to complete the
model, one must scale the problem in terms of both a length scale and a time scale to transform the
variables to a dimensionless form that allows for a set of solutions that can be narrowed down to the
simple parameter, Bi=hL/k.
Introduction Mathematical Model
This analysis looks into the phenomena of 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall of thickness L that
is insulated on one side and subject to convection on the other. The conduction is governed by the
differential heat equation: u_t=∝u_xx (1)
Here, u signifies the temperature of the entire body and ∝ signifies the thermal diffusivity.
Furthermore, the differential heat equation above must respect the following boundary conditions: u_x
|_(x=0)=0
ku_x |_(x=L)=h(u| T_∞) u|_(t=0)=T_i In the above boundary conditions, k represents a material
property commonly referred to as thermal conductivity, whereas T_i represents the initial temperature
throughout the wall. In this instance the flow conditions are such that they sustain constant

Essay about Change in Massachusetts Politics
Change in Massachusetts Politics
Massachusetts has always been known for its politics. From the days of John Hancock and John
Adams to the Kennedy Compound and failed Dukakis presidential campaign, the Bay State is, has
been, and always will be a hotbed of political activism. But that does not mean that Massachusetts has
a vibrant two party system.
If anything can be said about Massachusetts, it is that the state and its voters are certainly lop sided
towards one party. Massachusetts currently has Democrats filling all of their US House and US Senate
Seats, as well as a 138 of 160 State House seats, and 33 of 40 State Senate seats. The only state wide
office held not held by the Democrats is the Governor s seat, which is ... Show more content on

The immigrants were forced to work extensive hours, many times could not speak English, had
limited experience with voting, and furthermore had little interest in the elite candidates that were
running.
Thus, the power of the wealthy continued to reign in the state. Staunch conservatives that held only
pro business ideologies came into office on swells of support. The state representative and senate seats
were filled to the brim with Republicans, much in the way they are filled with Democrats today.
This is most evident in the rise of Coolidge in the Bay State. Coolidge s laissez faire beliefs and elite
ideas personified the Massachusetts political scene at the time.
Slowly, however, this system began to fade. As unions grew, working immigrants became acquainted
with a new idea: leisure time. As work hours were slashed from 12 to 10 even down to a reasonable 8,
the newcomers were slowly becoming allowed to take some time to evaluate what they had been
working so hard for.
Unions: A rise to power
As Unions began to grow amongst the factory workers in the cities, a new sentiment began to grow
through the huddled masses. The idea of self determination began to slowly enter the minds of the
workers who were seeing successes on the picket lines.
As the new immigrants (who at this time may even have been second generation

Archaeological Ceramics Paper
Archaeological ceramics is the most prolific relics that have been studied to expand our understanding
of past cultures. Archaeological study based on the investigation of pottery shape, color, decoration
style and materials that can give a plenty of information regarding typological and invaluable
information, dating and provenance. The study of the mineralogical properties of ceramics plays a
vital role to understand the previous technologies. However, the manufacturing techniques, cleaning
of the clays, adding of the temper, and shaping of objects, firing atmosphere can significantly change
the mineralogical composition of the ceramic objects. In addition to this, the life cycle of ceramics and
its usage and post depositional modifications are also important and can help to change the
mineralogical constitution. Although, nowadays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

materials, clay preparation, the firing technique, and pre/post firing treatment of the ceramics.

provenance of the ceramics. Both requires the combined use of mineralogical techniques such as

The Downfall Of The Wellington Sevens
The Downfall of the Wellington Sevens
How does the sevens fail to bring people together.
The Wellington sevens is one of 10 tournaments in 10 different countries in the sevens world circuit.
From the first tournament in 2000, to the 2014 tournament, the Wellington sevens was the
blockbusting event of the Kiwi summer. The tournaments tickets were sold out in minutes, and
Westpac Stadium, which can hold up to 38,000 people, was packed to the rafters. Just as so many
other events are synonymous with their city: Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 or Bathurst 1000.
For the Wellington Sevens, it had been the place to be seen and a focal point for the summer. However

I think the [NRL Auckland] Nines killed a lot of it, plus the prices were less than $100 the first year,
then it got up to $200 which would ve put a few people off. Food prices and the fun police killed it
too. Rush also argues that perhaps a change of venue will breathe some much needed life and
excitement into the venue. He urged the organisers of the event to assess whether the capital was the
best place to host the New Zealand leg of the circuit. As it stands, Wellington has signed on to host the
New Zealand leg of the World Series for two more years. It s a very bad look. There s no magic
solution and you gotta feel for the rugby union because we are a rugby country, We re one of the top
nations in the world in all forms of the game and to have our tournament as one of the worst, probably,
on the circuit, she s not a good look. Rush thinks that perhaps taking it away from New Zealand or at
least Wellington will help people realise what they are missing, and realise how great the tournament
has been to have in Wellington in the past. The fact that the tournament used to be so popular, and has
shown a sudden decline in popularity is a big factor as to why the tournament struggles to bring
people together. What was once one of the highlights of the sevens circuit has become somewhat of a
non event. Many used to come together and meet at the Wellington Sevens, large crowds and a great
atmosphere would help bring people a lot closer,

Essay on censorship
Censorship is the act of suppressing publications, movies, television programs, plays, letters, and so
on that are considered to be obscene, blasphemous, or politically unacceptable (MccGwire 4).
Censorship should be enforced because it is needed into today s society. Censorship needs to be used
in media, hate speech, and obscene material.
To begin with, the media has very negative effect on society as a whole. The mass media movies,
television, and recordings need to be regulated, and not only because of appeals to irresponsible lust
(Lowenthal 19). They have immersed us in violence as well, habituated us to the most extreme
brutality, held it up as a model and surrounded us by images of hateful human ... Show more content

It corrupts taste and poisons the imagination (Kimball 20). Violent video games, movies, and music
lyrics influence people to retaliate against those people that hurt them. In the past few years there have
been a great number of school shootings. Many of these shootings were copied off of famous movie
scenes and video games. These obscene aspects of the media need to be banned from children.
Children are still learning the difference between rights and wrong, therefore adults need to take on
this responsibility of censoring what children watch, read, play with, and listen to.
Hate speech should also be banned. Free speech has a class line. It also has a class responsibility. One
person s beliefs cannot cross the line into threats of violence. Free speech does not cover that (Albano
31). Those institutions most concerned with social fairness have proven to be the ones most likely to
promulgate anti hate speech rules (Albano 30). Part of the reason seems to be recognition that hate
speech can easily silence and demoralize its victims, discouraging them from participating in the life
of the institution (Albano 30). If so, enacting hate speech rules may be evidence of a commitment to
democratic dialogue, rather than the opposite, as some their opponents maintain (Albano 30). People
should not have to put up with harassment by others. People should not have to constantly live in the
state of fear because others are threatening them;

Identity In Mirror Image And Flowers For Algernon
George R.R. Martin once said, Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your
strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt
you. In both stories of Mirror Image by Lena Coakley and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes they
have a common theme of identity and about how you find yourself. For both the characters in the story
they find themselves finally by first losing themselves. For example in the short story of Mirror
Image, Alice is a character who struggles to find herself and tries to understand if this is truly who she
is. The situation of Alice is that she is the first to successfully have her brain transplanted in a new
body, and due to this she is struggling to find her own identity. ... Show more content on

identity when she has a talk with Mr. Jarred when she hears him say to her, I ll tell her I looked into
your eyes and that I didn t see my daughter (Coakley, 18). Alice s journey to find herself and her
identity was a long where see was lost, but she shares a similar journey to others. It also seems like
this story can be considered an allusion and share a common theme to Flowers for Algernon where

The Ethics Of Virtue By Kant And Mill
In this article the authors take the approach of analyzing three famous ethical theories. They look at
the ethics of virtue by Aristotle, Immanuel Kant s deontological ethics, and John Stuart Mill s
utilitarian happiness principle. They explain what each of these great thinkers argued constitutes moral
behavior as well as their thoughts on what drives such behavior. They then apply these concepts to
ethics training programs of modern day corporations. In short, one must have an understanding of the
impetus of people s ethical behaviors in order to implement an appropriate program to cultivate and
reinforce the desired organization s ethics.
Aristotle, Kant and Mill are set up as figurative Ethics Officers who would design an ethics program

The Usefulness Of Study Of Bank Cost And Efficiency
Comment on the usefulness of study of bank cost and efficiency in evaluating bank performance.
Introduction
From the very beginning of the bank history, we already know that the main operation of bank is to
take loan and to make deposit. Since the first bank established in 12th century, bank is no more a
simple institution where we exchange money but an agency considered to be speculative and hopeful.
There is no doubt that the prosperity in modern society benefits a lot from the development of
commercial activities, where bank plays a main role in. People make money through work or
investment. So they divide their income into two major parts : one part is considered as profit ,with
which people may consume or do reinvestment or put it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bank liquidity. Those indicators are lines play role like fire alarm for the commercial banks to watch
out the dangerous at any moment.
Except being alert to those highly explored risks, what commercial banks concern about is the profit.
Today, in order to make business more efficient, it is a wise choice for both banks and other kinds of
companies to do financing and list practice. With this important step, banks acquire more powerful
support to develop branches into a wider scale market: running global business, like HSBC. From the
other hand, this can be a unprecedent challenge to the local banks. The main reason why big
companies are successful is they do know how to function the business skillful. Works are separated
into small pieces and more professional staff are hired to solve special problems. This can be an
advantage that local banks lack. Competition makes it clear that local banks have to find their own
advantage to survive in the crucial game.
Other competition from financial institution
Even some big companies start to provide relative banking services. Countless financial derivatives
also consist as a main part in banking.
Although in the textbook the main assumption is without mortgage, which means that it does not
matter whether the borrowers repay their loan or

As for the weaknesses and strengths, one of the biggest weaknesses I ve noticed was that there was not

the very end of the discussion used I agree or I disagree when it was their turn to speak. This made it
confusing for me, the audience because it seemed like what each student was saying had no
connection to what the previous student was saying. Another weakness I ve noticed was that many of
the students used fill in words such as um and like . I had a hard time trying to understand my
classmates s ideas and what they were trying to say because they kept using um and like in between
words and sentences. In addition, as I mentioned above, a lot of the questions evolved around the
conflict of the story. This became repetitive and I felt like many of the students repeated their answers.
The last weakness I noticed was that nobody, except Andrew used direct quotes from the novel. I
believe that using direct quotes would give more evidence and strengthen

Roma And Ethnic Identity
1. Why do some Roma hide their ethnic identities? Some Roma hide their ethnic identities because it
can be dangerous and bad for their business because of the stereotyping that goes along with being a
Roma. Also, depending on the community, they may be threatened, attacked, or discriminated again.
2. What challenges did the Roma face in different parts of the world? The Roma face a variety of
challenges in different parts of the world. When the Roma moved to Western Europe, people took
away their history by twisting what it truly meant to be Roma. They also tried to destroy the Roma
culture. In Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Roma were stoned by the citizens of Halifax simply because of
their ethnicity. The Roma then traveled to Australia, South Africa, Tasmania, Buenos Aires, and back
to England. They traveled because they were not accepted as citizens in any of these countries. When
they returned to England, they found that a lot of the Roma had settled down because they couldn t
take the abuse. When Julia lived in a small village in Scotland her family was the target for racism.
Local people would vandalize their home and kill their dogs. One day, Julia was playing outside with
her sister when a young man threw a brick at her head that spilt her head open. When her sister tried to
help her, they beat her with a pipe. In Spain the Roma were fighting against the fascists. Lolo, who
joined an Anti Fascists movement when he lived in Spain, was tortured for ten days and ten nights.

Knuckleball Research Paper
MLB breaking balls can easily be the hardest pitches to throw. You have to have a certain grip on the
ball. You have to have a certain throwing motion to be able to make them break/move. You also need
to be able to throw the ball at the right speed and the speed with your arm motion has to be a certain
speed as well. There are three breaking balls that can make or break a pitcher in the MLB. The first
pitch that I will talk about is the knuckleball. Knuckleballs are one of the hardest pitches to
consistently control because it seems to just float in the air and can t be easily placed. The NPR says,
throw the knuckleball a pitch that can make even the best hitters look helpless. The knuckleball is a
crazy pitch that can trick many batters, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important finger to be able to throw the curveball is the middle finger. The pitcher will find
a seam that will give resistance to the middle finger to get more control and spin on the ball. This is
how the spin on the curveball is so tight. According to Steven Ellis, The throwing elbow must be equal
to or slightly above the throwing shoulder. You must stay over the top when you throw the curveball.
Throwing it when it s under your shoulder then you put additional stress on your arm. Also if the arm
is at an angle larger than 90 degrees then it also puts additional stress on your arm. The placement of
your arm will be alot closer to your head then you re normal fastball. It will be slightly up and away
from your ear. When you release the curveball you want to release it out in front of you. The way you
release the ball is the type of action you want the pitch to have. When releasing a curveball, your wrist
will be hooked and your hand will pull down in front of your body, says Steven Ellis. The further you
release the ball from your head, the less grip you will have on the ball, resulting in a looser spin on
your pitch. It is extremely important that you maintain similar arm speed with your curveball that you
have with your fastball. A hitter reads arm speed. says Steven

=29
Thus, the decimal equivalent of Signed magnitude representation of the given number is 29.
For b)
Since the MSB is 1 that represents the given number in binary when represented as Signed 2 s
complement is negative and the binary conversion follows as above and the decimal equivalent is

What Are The 3 Most Important Reasons For Study Principles...
What are the 3 most important reasons to study principles of persuasion?
The first reason it is important to study persuasion is to adapt to the technological age. In this age of
technology as stated in Persuasion in Today s World the author examines persuasion and why it is
important that we train ourselves to become responsible receivers of persuasion. (Larson, pg. 5) He
does this by first explaining that the average American is exposed to over 5000 persuasive messages a
day. It is important to train ourselves to be responsible receivers because persuasive messages have
become a grammar of everyday life. These messages are received through a lexicon of different
mediums from television to visual art, and also conversations with children. For example: I have a lot
of nieces and a nephew who watch both Disney and nick Jr. both stations persuade parents with the
idea of learning and they send messages of teaching leading the parents to believe it is ok for the
children to watch. This creates tiny consumers that then ask their parents to buy them things
associated with the shows and characters they watch in the programs. While a lot of these persuasive
messages feed into the ideologies taught to us by other messages we learn from our parents or society.
Larson went on to say: Persuasion is the result of combined efforts of source and receiver. Even in
cases of terrorism and hostage taking, some hostages begin to identify with their captors. (Larson,

The Importance Of The Women Of New France
The Importance of the Women of New France
Throughout history males have been perceived as the dominant sex. This notion had been strong in
Europe and most of the Western World. The colony of New France, however, was able to break this
way of thinking and began to regard their women as an equal. Women s roles in New France could be
described as small but very important as day to day life would not be as efficient without the help of
the women of New France. Both European women and Aboriginal women had jobs that were essential
to everyday life, women helped contribute to the fur trade, Catholic nuns had major roles in education
and health, and the women of New France went against the norm of the modern European woman.

They took care of the children, made weapons, and up kept their homes and farms. These jobs were
basic every day jobs but were important as these small jobs provided food and weapons for each tribe.
The Native women were extremely well respected and their opinions were highly esteemed. For
example, the Iroquois people were neither patriarchal nor matriarchal and women carried the weights
of the domestic economy. The descent went through the female and only women could give names to
the men when they were promoted to chief. Women had all the say in who was selected for chief and
made the call to go to war. It is incredible that for the centuries that Western men did not respect the
opinions of women, yet Aboriginal men of the New World were able to respect their women so much
that they called most of the shots of how their tribes should be run.
Women in New France were very important. Both European and Aboriginal women were respected
and had a significant amount of say in what went on in the colony and tribes. Aboriginal women were
given a significantly large amount of freedom and say in what happens in day to day life and basically
ran their tribes. Thus, showing that women in New France were important to their society. The fur
trade was the major economic source for New France. Women played a role in the fur trade and aided
it in becoming successful for both French and Aboriginal. The European women s main job was to
prepare their husbands by making

Based on the research I have completed, I have expanded my knowledge on hip dysplasia! This
research report contains what I have learned. Contained in this is an introduction to hip dysplasia, the
problem with it, causes, treatments to hip dysplasia and the effects of having hip dysplasia.
First, hip dysplasia, hip dysplasia is where the pelvic bone is not properly in the hip socket. This can
cause problems in walk creating pain. ?3 6 out of 1000 newborns have some form of hip dysplasia or
dysplastic hips.?(Hawkins, Judy C) (Where the hips are shallow in the socket and this can develop
into DDH.) Hip dysplasia or DDH is 9% more common in girls. Also, ?2 3 out of every 1000 infants
will require some sort of treatment for DDH 1 out of every 1000 are diagnosed with DDH.?(Kidd,
Randy) If treated the life expectance for someone with developmental dysplasia of the hips is a full
life. If they are not treated you can live your whole life but will not walk, have a lot of pain and will
most likely need full hip replacements by the age 20.
Some of the physical features and clues that you have hip dysplasia are 1 leg might be longer than the
other, your hip clicks when it is moved in a circle and it also can be detected in ultrasounds and x rays.
It can be passed through families genetically by either parent and it usually skips a generation. This is

Analysis Of Frederick Douglass s World Literature
Jenifer E. Forrest Leslie Lovenstein World Literature from 1650 to the Present Online 26 November
2014 Frederick Douglass: From Chains to Podium When a man grows up as an untaught slave in the
southern eighteenth century, he has no other ambitions than to be free. But for Frederick Douglass,
freedom was merely step one. Douglass began his life on a plantation owed from the moment he
arrived. He was not destined to stay put there. Born in (what he can come close to) 1818, he began life
out as a man in chains but ended up a respected wordsmith, but still apologetic for his short comings.
Douglass learned how to read, write, and give speeches; he influenced a nation for changes among
writers today; and he had different approaches to the era he lived in, but knew he wanted change to
exist among all. These things were needed to occur in order for the slavery and African American
society to be recognized as equals among all. His wit was not small nor was his leadership not seen as
defiance. Each step of his journey, brought him to a different place where he faced a challenge that
could not have been met any other way, but with strength and education where he was successful in
obtaining. Douglass was not only a speaker, but was an author of his time. Many colleagues wrote of
him and his life even after he passed away. In Douglass works he spoke of his ignorance and blunders,
but continued to sow his good seed. In the book The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas an

Recruitment Process For Recruiting New Trainees For Abc, Inc.
n this case study analysis of Carl Robins a number of problems related with the recruiting process
transpired. To obtain a clear understanding of what went wrong and the best way to solve these
problems, a case study analysis is the most effective method to identify and recommend ways to
improve this process for recruiting new trainees for ABC, Inc. Carl s mishaps were caused by a lack of
organization, planning, and scheduling, and there is a good chance the training will not be able to
happen as currently scheduled. Furthermore, ABC Inc., made the incorrect assessment by appointing
Carl Robins to the job of enlisting new hires. Carl had this position for only six months and was put on
his own. He should have known that he needed to put more preparation and on the job training into
this job. A recruiter is accountable for the course of action of hiring, induction, medical screenings,
and record filing to complete the hiring in many companies. With two to three weeks until orientation
is to start, Carl has too much going on. To see how this started go back to early April when; Carl
Robins was hired for ABC, Inc., to recruit new hires for the company. He had enormous strides in his
efforts, despite employment at his new job for only six months. Robins hired 15 new trainees for Ms.
Carrolls in the operations department and ensured her everything would be taken care of. This was Mr.
Robins first recruitment class, He scheduled orientation to take place June 15 hoping the new

Legend. Coco Chanel once declared, Legend is the consecration of celebrity, and no other fashion
designer in history has exceeded either Chanel s celebrity or her legend. She was a fiercely
independent lover of dukes, industrialists, and artists; a confidante of many of the creative geniuses of
her day among them, writer Jean Cocteau, painter Pablo Picasso, ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev,
and composer Igor Stravinsky; and a self created image of the free spirited new woman of the 1920s.

Chanel both embodied, and in many ways dictated, the revolution in women s fashion that occurred in
the 1920s.
Connections. Chanel s influence was in part the result of the personal and social contacts she made in
postwar Europe. In 1917 she became a protégée of the wealthy, beautiful Misia Edwards later Misia
Sert who introduced her to the circle of avant garde writers and artists with whom Edwards associated.
During the 1920s Chanel herself hosted parties for these intellectuals as well as for the wealthiest and
best known members of European and American society. In 1924 she designed the costumes for
Diaghilev s ballet Train Bleu, for which Cocteau had written the story and Picasso had designed sets.
During the 1920s and early 1930s Chanel also formed intense but generally brief liaisons with
fascinating men: Russian Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, who had participated in the assassination of
the mad Russian monk Rasputin; Hugh Richard Arthur Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, among the
wealthiest men in England; brooding French poet Pierre Revedy; and French artist Paul Iribe. Each of
these men seems to have proposed marriage, butChanel always protective of her independence
declined. Most biographers agree, however, that her often repeated retort to the duke of Westminster s
proposal There are already three

This shows us that, the administrative authorities practice or perform functions of legislature and
judiciary: this is so because of the impossibility in having rigid form of separation of powers due to
complexity of modern conditions. Generally, for administrative authority or executive to function
well, it needs legislative powers in order to make rules on how to enforce law and also judicial powers
to decide on their own merits. That is why the delegation of quasi legislative and quasi judicial
functions to a number of administrative authorities and tribunals has become unavoidable. 1. Useful of

  • 2. Pre Colonial America Summary Pre Modern Colonial America In The Radicalism of the American Revolution, Gordan S. Wood creates an in depth analysis of why colonial America could be classified as a pre modern society. He presents a thorough argument for how hierarchal trends and patriarchal dependency of the colonists emphasized the more traditional culture of the early Americans. The colonists had created a society in which there was a deep prevalence for British customs, such as, reverence for the king, the inheritance of land and status, the strength of a household, and the importance of rank (Wood 12, 16, 46, 18). Before the revolution, America resembled its native England; once they had severed ties and moved forward with their own form of government with confidence, pre modern America initiated the first steps to become a truly independent and modern nation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By building up their family trees, colonial Americans were able to use their kinship as an advantage in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the manipulation of politics (Wood 48). This was due to the patriarchal dependency of most of the citizens; in colonial America the familial household was the center of society and the strength of it. The patriarchal tradition of the society creates a system in which the institutions mimic households; that created a society that was dependent on a head because no man was independent in and of himself ... • 3. How Independent Consultants Fill The Gap And Complement... I am presently working on a business plan to provide college admission guidance as an independent professional. There are countless media headlines on how the increased complexity of the college application process and the competitive results for admissions requires students to receive more guidance while the ratio of students to school counselors increases. This paper aims to explore some ways that independent consultants fill the gap and complement high school counseling. I used interviews and questionnaires to elicit information. I contacted several counselors in public and private schools to get the profiles of families that seek outside assistance with the college application process and to understand how best to arrange a collaboration between counselors for the benefit of the student. Through questionnaires, I asked families of current high school students, rising college freshmen, and rising college sophomores which aspects of the process warrant more support. I also reviewed articles and books on the subject to identify the key areas where students need additional assistance with college admissions planning. The surveys and decision matrices I used are available to assist counselors, students, and families. Background/Issue The National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) identifies that school counselors play a crucial role in creating a college going culture. However, with a national student to counselor ratio of 471:1 in public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of The Poem Sailing To Byzantium Sailing to Byzantium W.B. Yeats poem Sailing to Byzantium presents his concerned about the progression of time and how someone can become eternal. Yeats lived from 1865 to 1939; so this poem, which was composed in 1926 at age 60, which reflects his fear about aging and becoming immaterial. The narrator of this poem seems concerned with the idea of the human condition, that we are born, we live, and then we die . The narrator seeks out a place where he will be able to join the monuments of history, so that he could survive endlessly. He emphasized a deeper journey of an old man seeking to escape the idle and uneducated society of Europe. Thereafter, the poet sails to a place called Byzantium, the ancient name for current day Istanbul. He chose Byzantium, because of its well known history, a place of paradise and the only place where art and man can become a single body. Thus, he hopes that by becoming an artificial object himself, he can setback the human condition. The first stanza of the poem references the impermanence of the natural world, and the fact that everything must one day meet an end. In the sentence That is no country for old men, the word that indicates both Ireland and natural world in general. He depicted the country he left behind, as full of young people, birds, and fish, but he knew that whatever is begotten, born, and dies . The young don t think about what might happen after death because they are caught up in life. They act as if they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. How Technology Affected Canada s Economy After the First World War, Canada s economy was in a rough state. Steel and chemical plants shut down due to low demand, and weapon factories were no longer required. This resulted in the unemployment of many people, and left Canada in an economic depression. The rise of technology played a substantial role in taking Canada out of the post war depression. The mass production of automobiles, assembly lines, and the use of this machinery assisted in economic growth. However, technology still had a negative effect on the Canadian economy during the 1920 s as it caused the rise of consumerism, required continuous input of money to further support it, and replaced people s jobs. Firstly, technology caused the rise of consumerism. Technology altered the economy from a war based to a consumer based economy, The economy shifted to a consumer based economy instead of the need to build weapons for the war, (Lowenstein). ... The early model cars such as the Ford Model T would require a lot of gas to run, so a lot of money was spent on gas for the cars to run. • 7. Applying An Analytical Model Of A Plane Wall Abstract To conduct a proper analysis of the 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall we must take the necessary mathematical procedures to obtain an analytical model that accurately represents the heat transfer that occurs. The equation must accurately model a plane wall that has a thickness L, is well insulated on one side, but is still vulnerable to convection on the other side. In order to complete the model, one must scale the problem in terms of both a length scale and a time scale to transform the variables to a dimensionless form that allows for a set of solutions that can be narrowed down to the simple parameter, Bi=hL/k. Introduction Mathematical Model This analysis looks into the phenomena of 1 D transient conduction in a plane wall of thickness L that is insulated on one side and subject to convection on the other. The conduction is governed by the differential heat equation: u_t=∝u_xx (1) Here, u signifies the temperature of the entire body and ∝ signifies the thermal diffusivity. Furthermore, the differential heat equation above must respect the following boundary conditions: u_x |_(x=0)=0 ku_x |_(x=L)=h(u| T_∞) u|_(t=0)=T_i In the above boundary conditions, k represents a material property commonly referred to as thermal conductivity, whereas T_i represents the initial temperature throughout the wall. In this instance the flow conditions are such that they sustain constant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From the days of John Hancock and John Adams to the Kennedy Compound and failed Dukakis presidential campaign, the Bay State is, has been, and always will be a hotbed of political activism. But that does not mean that Massachusetts has a vibrant two party system. If anything can be said about Massachusetts, it is that the state and its voters are certainly lop sided towards one party. Massachusetts currently has Democrats filling all of their US House and US Senate Seats, as well as a 138 of 160 State House seats, and 33 of 40 State Senate seats. The only state wide office held not held by the Democrats is the Governor s seat, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The immigrants were forced to work extensive hours, many times could not speak English, had limited experience with voting, and furthermore had little interest in the elite candidates that were running. Thus, the power of the wealthy continued to reign in the state. Staunch conservatives that held only pro business ideologies came into office on swells of support. The state representative and senate seats were filled to the brim with Republicans, much in the way they are filled with Democrats today. This is most evident in the rise of Coolidge in the Bay State. Coolidge s laissez faire beliefs and elite ideas personified the Massachusetts political scene at the time. Slowly, however, this system began to fade. As unions grew, working immigrants became acquainted with a new idea: leisure time. As work hours were slashed from 12 to 10 even down to a reasonable 8, the newcomers were slowly becoming allowed to take some time to evaluate what they had been working so hard for. Unions: A rise to power As Unions began to grow amongst the factory workers in the cities, a new sentiment began to grow through the huddled masses. The idea of self determination began to slowly enter the minds of the workers who were seeing successes on the picket lines. • 10. The Downfall Of The Wellington Sevens The Downfall of the Wellington Sevens How does the sevens fail to bring people together. The Wellington sevens is one of 10 tournaments in 10 different countries in the sevens world circuit. From the first tournament in 2000, to the 2014 tournament, the Wellington sevens was the blockbusting event of the Kiwi summer. The tournaments tickets were sold out in minutes, and Westpac Stadium, which can hold up to 38,000 people, was packed to the rafters. Just as so many other events are synonymous with their city: Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 or Bathurst 1000. I think the [NRL Auckland] Nines killed a lot of it, plus the prices were less than $100 the first year, then it got up to $200 which would ve put a few people off. Food prices and the fun police killed it too. Rush also argues that perhaps a change of venue will breathe some much needed life and excitement into the venue. He urged the organisers of the event to assess whether the capital was the best place to host the New Zealand leg of the circuit. As it stands, Wellington has signed on to host the New Zealand leg of the World Series for two more years. It s a very bad look. There s no magic solution and you gotta feel for the rugby union because we are a rugby country, We re one of the top nations in the world in all forms of the game and to have our tournament as one of the worst, probably, on the circuit, she s not a good look. Rush thinks that perhaps taking it away from New Zealand or at least Wellington will help people realise what they are missing, and realise how great the tournament has been to have in Wellington in the past. The fact that the tournament used to be so popular, and has shown a sudden decline in popularity is a big factor as to why the tournament struggles to bring people together. What was once one of the highlights of the sevens circuit has become somewhat of a non event. • 11. Essay on censorship Censorship is the act of suppressing publications, movies, television programs, plays, letters, and so on that are considered to be obscene, blasphemous, or politically unacceptable (MccGwire 4). Censorship should be enforced because it is needed into today s society. Censorship needs to be used in media, hate speech, and obscene material. To begin with, the media has very negative effect on society as a whole. The mass media movies, television, and recordings need to be regulated, and not only because of appeals to irresponsible lust (Lowenthal 19). It corrupts taste and poisons the imagination (Kimball 20). Violent video games, movies, and music lyrics influence people to retaliate against those people that hurt them. In the past few years there have been a great number of school shootings. Many of these shootings were copied off of famous movie scenes and video games. These obscene aspects of the media need to be banned from children. Children are still learning the difference between rights and wrong, therefore adults need to take on this responsibility of censoring what children watch, read, play with, and listen to. Hate speech should also be banned. Free speech has a class line. It also has a class responsibility. One person s beliefs cannot cross the line into threats of violence. Free speech does not cover that (Albano 31). Those institutions most concerned with social fairness have proven to be the ones most likely to promulgate anti hate speech rules (Albano 30). Part of the reason seems to be recognition that hate speech can easily silence and demoralize its victims, discouraging them from participating in the life of the institution (Albano 30). If so, enacting hate speech rules may be evidence of a commitment to democratic dialogue, rather than the opposite, as some their opponents maintain (Albano 30). Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you. In both stories of Mirror Image by Lena Coakley and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes they have a common theme of identity and about how you find yourself. For both the characters in the story they find themselves finally by first losing themselves. For example in the short story of Mirror Image, Alice is a character who struggles to find herself and tries to understand if this is truly who she is. They then apply these concepts to ethics training programs of modern day corporations. The Roma face a variety of challenges in different parts of the world. When the Roma moved to Western Europe, people took away their history by twisting what it truly meant to be Roma. They also tried to destroy the Roma culture. In Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Roma were stoned by the citizens of Halifax simply because of their ethnicity. The Roma then traveled to Australia, South Africa, Tasmania, Buenos Aires, and back to England. They traveled because they were not accepted as citizens in any of these countries. When they returned to England, they found that a lot of the Roma had settled down because they couldn t take the abuse. You have to have a certain throwing motion to be able to make them break/move. You also need to be able to throw the ball at the right speed and the speed with your arm motion has to be a certain speed as well. There are three breaking balls that can make or break a pitcher in the MLB. The first pitch that I will talk about is the knuckleball. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important finger to be able to throw the curveball is the middle finger. The pitcher will find a seam that will give resistance to the middle finger to get more control and spin on the ball. This is how the spin on the curveball is so tight. According to Steven Ellis, The throwing elbow must be equal to or slightly above the throwing shoulder. You must stay over the top when you throw the curveball. Throwing it when it s under your shoulder then you put additional stress on your arm. Also if the arm is at an angle larger than 90 degrees then it also puts additional stress on your arm. The placement of your arm will be alot closer to your head then you re normal fastball. It will be slightly up and away from your ear. When you release the curveball you want to release it out in front of you. The way you release the ball is the type of action you want the pitch to have. When releasing a curveball, your wrist will be hooked and your hand will pull down in front of your body, says Steven Ellis. The further you release the ball from your head, the less grip you will have on the ball, resulting in a looser spin on your pitch. It is extremely important that you maintain similar arm speed with your curveball that you have with your fastball. A hitter reads arm speed. says Steven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first reason it is important to study persuasion is to adapt to the technological age. In this age of technology as stated in Persuasion in Today s World the author examines persuasion and why it is important that we train ourselves to become responsible receivers of persuasion. (Larson, pg. 5) He does this by first explaining that the average American is exposed to over 5000 persuasive messages a day. It is important to train ourselves to be responsible receivers because persuasive messages have become a grammar of everyday life. These messages are received through a lexicon of different mediums from television to visual art, and also conversations with children. For example: I have a lot of nieces and a nephew who watch both Disney and nick Jr. both stations persuade parents with the idea of learning and they send messages of teaching leading the parents to believe it is ok for the children to watch. This creates tiny consumers that then ask their parents to buy them things associated with the shows and characters they watch in the programs. While a lot of these persuasive messages feed into the ideologies taught to us by other messages we learn from our parents or society. Larson went on to say: Persuasion is the result of combined efforts of source and receiver. Even in cases of terrorism and hostage taking, some hostages begin to identify with their captors. Forrest Leslie Lovenstein World Literature from 1650 to the Present Online 26 November 2014 Frederick Douglass: From Chains to Podium When a man grows up as an untaught slave in the southern eighteenth century, he has no other ambitions than to be free. But for Frederick Douglass, freedom was merely step one. Douglass began his life on a plantation owed from the moment he arrived. He was not destined to stay put there. Douglass learned how to read, write, and give speeches; he influenced a nation for changes among writers today; and he had different approaches to the era he lived in, but knew he wanted change to exist among all. These things were needed to occur in order for the slavery and African American society to be recognized as equals among all. His wit was not small nor was his leadership not seen as defiance. Each step of his journey, brought him to a different place where he faced a challenge that could not have been met any other way, but with strength and education where he was successful in obtaining.
