Around the Horn Pow Essay
POW 9: Around the Horn Problem Statement During the time of crossing the overland trail, many
people instead chose to take the ship route which went around Cape Horn at the tip of South America.
The points that we are given to keep in mind are: A ship leaves New York for San Francisco on the
first of every month at noon, and vice versa for a ship coming from San Francisco. Each ship arrives
exactly six months after it leaves. With these things, we are also going to assume that: The weather
conditions are perfect and the trip goes exactly as planned. The time zones do not affect anything in
this problem. There is a certain point that the ship must reach, or have reached at each month.

Assuming these things, and having the given knowledge, we are to answer the question, if you were
on a ship leaving from New York, how many ships from San Francisco would you see in passing?
Process At first, I was confused with this problem and did not know what to do. For this problem, I
used only one problem and it was what helped me solve it. With my table group (Derick I), we did a
simulation. We first drew out a large map with the points that every ship should reach at the start of
every month. Then we kept feeding in the blocks (which we used to act as ships) and did the
simulation. Using this strategy, we were able to find the solution. Solution I found that if I were a
traveler on a New York ship bound for San Francisco, I would see SEVEN ships from San Francisco,
California along the way. This is how I

Security And The OSI Model Essay
Security and the OSI Model Network security is a topic that reaches far beyond the realm of firewalls,
passwords, and user ID accounts. For a network and data to remain secure there must be protective
measures at each level in the OSI interconnect model. While each layer basically operates
autonomously of the other it is important to ensure that the data being transmitted from the host to
destination has not been tampered with or is being prevented from reaching its destination. There are
seven level to the OSI interconnect model; each with its own special tasks, abilities, and weaknesses.

ARP is a simple protocol that was never designed for authentication. Any end station that has access to
the layer two environment can claim any IP address if the proper security measures are not taken. ARP
spoofing or ARP poisoning occurs when an attacker s computer forges its credentials to allow the host
to believe that it is the intended recipient. If the attackers computer forwards all of the data that is to
be sent to the intended host it is very likely that the man in the middle would go undetected. At any
time the attacker can make changes to the data that is forwarded, copy and use the data, or flood the
network with erroneous packets that cause data collisions and effectively bring network traffic to a
halt. The process of wardriving is a new threat that has surfaced with the popularity of 802.11 style
wireless connections. Poor security with these devices allows an attacker virtually unrestricted access
to the data link layer and beyond. It is not very difficult to walk around various areas in a busy
metropolitan area and pick up unsecured wireless signals and gain access to private networks where
the owner has little idea of you presence. The third layer is the network layer. In the network layer
data is routed through various physical networks while traveling to a known host. Information
contained in the network layer allows routers to make decisions on how the data gets to its destination.

My Friends And I Speak Nonstandard English
My friends and I speak Nonstandard English because that is what we hear the most because that is
what most of our family speak. We insult each other and sometime we cuss at wach other. For
example when we insult each other we often call one another fat, ugly, and dumb. When we insult
each other it is not meant to hurt one another feelings. Some time our insult can be harsh but that is
how we relieve some stress. Our life is hard when we are at home because we struggle day to day. So
when we get the chance to hang out with each we try to make each other laugh. Also when my friend
and I decided to do something like skip class or go to a party and someone back out we make fun of
them. For example, we will call them scary, wack, or a weenie. We do this for they can feel embarrass
and so they can change their mind about backing out. I make fun of them because when I was little my
sister and brother always made fun of me because I was the youngest so as I got older I wanted to do it
back to other for I can feel like I have the power to change someone s mind.
With my siblings, we tend to use body language when we are out in public. We do this when we want
to talk about someone we don t like and we do not want to say it out loud. For instance, if we see
someone that we do not like we look at each and laugh and look at that person we do not like. Another
example is when we see someone who is wearing something ugly on and they think they are cute, we

What Is Mercutio To Blame
Dominic Hanecak Mr. Anderson Period 5 English 1 Honours 9 December 2014 Mercutio: To Blame or
Not to Blame There are many tragedies that happen in our lives today, anyone can look in the media,
on the web, or just look around a neighborhood to find them. In William Shakespeare s, Romeo and
Juliet tragedies happen as well. There are many deaths because of two family s feud. Many people are
responsible for the buildup to the tragedies in the play, however one person seems to be the most
responsible for these deaths, and this person is Mercutio because of his constant pressure and sense of
pride. One of the reasons Mercutio is most responsible for the tragedies in this play is that he is the
one who convinces Romeo to go to the party at the Capulets. This is what started the chain of events
that led up to the deaths of himself, Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt and Mrs. Montague. Mercutio tells Romeo
that he is a lover. Borrow Cupids wings and soar with them above a common bound ... Show more

When Tybalt comes to the square, Mercutio tells Tybalt to pluck your sword out of your pilcher
(3.1.77). Mercutio, out of pity for Romeo, challenges Tybalt to a duel because when Romeo doesn t
fight it taints his pride and his brand as a man. Mercutio is fighting Tybalt, but Romeo doesn t want his
future cousin in law to get hurt so he and benvolio step in to stop the fight. While Mercutio is fighting
Tybalt, Mercutio falls saying I was hurt under your arm (3.1.100 101). This makes Romeo furious, so
mad that he says he is acting on his emotions not on common sense. Out of grief and out of revenge
Romeo slays Tybalt, and when the Prince comes Romeo gets banished. As you can see Mercutio
sacrificing his own life for Romeos pride adds to the tension in between these two families and leads
to the deaths of Romeo, Juliet and

Depicting the Various Traits and Characteristics of Leadership in Literature
When discussing any triumphant or flourishing organization or institution, the main attribute which
will always surface when examining the true fabric of what allows a particular organization or
institution to excel, will always be leadership. Leadership is portrayed at its pinnacle in William
Bratton s Turnaround, Rudolph Giuliani s book Leadership, Oren Harari s book The Leadership
Secrets of Colin Powell, and David Lipsky s book Absolutely American: Four Years at West Point. In
each of these works, the author does an exceptional job of depicting the various traits and
characteristics necessary for being a powerful and effective leader. ... Show more content on

Bratton realized the task at hand and that it would not be easy. He knew he was given the number one
police job in the country as the commissioner of the NYPD, and he was ready. He knew that nothing
would be possible without the support of his police officers. Morale was one of the big reasons that
the NYPD was so run down upon Bratton s arrival. He set out to the 103rd precinct in Queens to let
them know that things are about to change. Bratton carefully selected this precinct as the one he would
utilize in making his initial presence felt. Morale was exceptionally low in this precinct due to the
murder of Officer Ed Byrne. In February of 1988 Officer Byrne was sitting in his patrol car guarding
the home of a man who had informed on a drug dealer when he was shot to death by drug dealers.
That was a vicious indicator of the life and times of police officers during that era, and Bratton knew
it. As Bratton s first official act as police commissioner, he stood in front of the 103 and began: I said
when I took this job that we would take this city back for the good people that live here, neighborhood
by neighborhood, block by block, house by house. But I m going to need your help in doing that. I m
going to need all of you in the game. I want my cops to be cops. I want them to be assertive. I don t
want them walking by or looking the other way when they see something. No matter what the old
rules were, I expect you to see something and take proper police

Love As A Love Poem
It is a love poem that is written in an unusual form of dialogue. This dialogue between the lovers adds
personality to the poem. The lovers however know one another and have a shared history. As he still
attempts to amaze the woman even after she has criticized him. It is vague whether the poet is openly
communicating with her or is it only a conversation that is occurring in his mind. However, I will
assume that it is a conversation that is a reality and that the poet is communicating directly with the
woman as the poem indicates in the first stanza She says : (Line2) and She insists (Line4) also
mentioned in the final stanza She says (Line8). Therefore, this suggests that they are communicating
with each other. As the poet writes this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This suggests that the poet is writing from his heart and feelings which characterizes the poem as
sincere and genuine. The poet attempts to redeem himself after the woman has criticized him in the
first stanza. However, he would have desired to remain with the technique of a metaphoric dialogue.
The poet however uses a different representation in this stanza as the woman would prefer a more
literal dialogue of his love as she insists Then you d better think twice (Line4). The woman is aware
that the poet is capable of better quality writing. This indicates that they have a shared history. It
suggests that the woman motivates the poet to write better (Line 4) and also she acts as inspiration for
the poet. The first and second stanzas complement each other. The fact that the poet uses a different
dialogue technique in the second stanza reveals his love for this woman. The poet is willing to
terminate his own writing technique for her So I write (Line5). He would adjust the dialogue of the
poem if it were to make the woman delighted and captivated. This is the reason it is a love poem,
despite it being written in an unconventional dialogue. The poet would express his love through his
poem in order to impress the

How Media Has Impacted Growing Up With A Measuring Body Image
In this advertisement it shows a little girl measuring herself with a measuring tape. By looking at this
image, it already outlines that we as society relay on having the perfect ideal women body, which is
being thin and skinny. Society also implies that valuing body image and perfection is significant that
children at a very young age are already influenced negatively growing up with a corrupted mindset.
The little girl in the photo is already measuring her waistline with a measuring tape at such a young
age. She is already feeling like she must be skinny to fit into society and is conscious of her size,
teaching her that she must look a certain way. The issue is that in society the media has
advertisements, commercials and magazines that portray standards such as women being thin, tall and
skinny. This according to the Western countries is having the perfect body image. The media shows
such unrealistic images to consumers such as these young girls to try to appear like these ideals that
are set for them from society that potentially be harmful and unhealthy which could lead to death
because of starvation leading to possible long term health disorders such as anorexia, bulimia nervosa
and nervosa. My opinion on this issue is those who are suffering with low self esteem shouldn t do
such horrific acts like starvation or dieting just to be accepted in society because they feel too fat or
they do not meet the societal standard of being perfect. Girls should relay on the ideal

Horoscopes Persuasive Speech
Have you ever wondered why there is such an evident prejudice against Gemini s? Even if you didn t
know that was a thing, now don t you want to find out? Well to tell you the truth there really is no
logical reason why people target Gemini. People could have just as easily targeted Sagittarius or Leo
but they chose not to. I believe that one thing that made it easier to target Gemini was the fact that the
sign Gemini stands for the constellation of the twins so you could call them two faced . There are
always good and bad people for every sign, so there is no real reason for any stereotype against any
one of them, especially if you don t believe in horoscopes. I hope as you read more about the process

(I can t remember the website now but) A website said that if you believe in astrology wholeheartedly
that is 90% 100% true for you. If you believe on the down low, just dabble here and there, it is most
likely 40% 60% true for you. Finally, if you don t believe at all it would only be 0% 20% true for you.
In some aspects it seems totally fake. The chance of everyone born in the same month as you having
similar traits to you is about as likely as evolution, it can t happen. But if you think about it, I would
say at least half of those people wouldn t believe in astrology at all and maybe 20 ish% would just
believe a little. Though that may be the case, I would still say it is highly unlikely. Most of the tools
used in reading your horoscope I believe are hocus pocus (no pun intended... well maybe a little...).
Things like Tarot Cards, dowsing rods and runes may help you to feel the energy but really all they re
doing is putting on a show. Astrology is definitely not irreducibly complex, and I could probably rip
this apart piece by piece and dive head first into the root of all the stars. [For the sake of my sleep
schedule I will save that for my final copy xD] I will add something though, the horoscopes you see in
the paper are definitely not something you should believe, and they are most likely not done by
someone who knows what they re doing.

The Pros And Cons Of Goldfishes
Goldfishes are better than cats, dogs or hamsters as pets for several reasons, according to the For Birds
Only Blog.
They make such great pets because unlike dogs, they do not have to be given their daily walk. They
also do their own exercise swimming inside a tank, making leashes unnecessary.
Another advantage of having goldfishes as pets is that they don t have to be groomed daily like cats or
dogs. This is good news for people who are allergic to cat or dog fur, and for people who cannot afford
to have their dogs or cats groomed once or twice a month.
Goldfishes are also low maintenance pets compared to other small animals such as hamsters.
Maintaining a hamster as a pet is quite a commitment because their cages have to be cleaned and ...

Goldfishes also have the reputation of having long lives, beaten only by cats who supposedly have
nine lives pun intended. They are a perfect match for parents who want to give their children pets that
will last for some time.
Unfortunately, there are some stereotypical misconceptions unjustly served to the goldfish, according
to the goldfishlifespan.com.
All goldfishes have the same size and can exist in a fishbowl. This is entirely wrong because
goldfishes can grow to a length of 12 inches, such that it is impossible to keep them in bowls.
They are clean and can live in a fishbowl. Again not true, because in reality they are dirty, messy and
sloppy, and they produce a great amount of ammonia from excess food and excrement.
Their memory lasts for only three seconds, which is untrue. It has been shown that goldfishes fed
regularly will approach the surface of the tank when they see the person feeding come near the tank.
Goldfishes are solitary creatures, preferring to keep to themselves. Again this is inaccurate because
they like to associate with their own kind. They like living in community tanks and be showered with
attention by other

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra
I recently attended the opening night of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra at the Capitol Theatre in
downtown Wheeling. The experience of seeing a live orchestra for the first time was very unique and
pleasant to me. The feel and atmosphere was much different from what you would experience at a
country or hip hop concert. The venue was very quiet and respectful, no one was talking or playing
around on their cell phones. Whereas my prior concert experiences had consisted of musicians aiming
to be as loud and energetic as possible to invoke excitement in the audience, the orchestra put out a
different feel for the audience. The orchestra aimed to invoke and emotional and appreciative response
from the audience. The orchestra opened with Rossini s La Gazza Ladra Overture. This piece was

She was very talented, and the dress made her stand out from the rest of the orchestra. She was very
emotional as she played. Due to the nature of her piece, it almost felt as if she were leading and the
orchestra was following behind her. This piece had only a very small brass section and no percussion
instruments were played to the best of my memory. I think I enjoyed this piece the most because I was
able to focus on the cellist and really see just how much passion she had through the way she played
each line. Following a short intermission, the whole orchestra was present for Shostakovich s Fifth
Symphony. This symphony was very long compared to the music I am accustomed to. The orchestra
took breaks every once in awhile for a few short seconds which I did not expect. The symphony had a
little bit of everything in terms of music and instrumentation. Some parts were sad, some dramatic,
and some energetic. At times, it almost felt to me as if the music was telling a story. The ending was
incredible; it was fast paced and full of

Standardized Testing A Student s Achievements
Standardized testing is a series of nationwide tests that is supposed to show a students achievements
throughout the year. For example, the SAT is a nationwide test that Juniors in high school have to take
to apply to colleges. Unless your SAT scores are between 1000 to 1600 most will not look at your
application. The real question is if standardized testing is an effective way to test a student s
achievements? Standardized tests are an ineffective way to measure a students intelligence and
academic achievements accordingly these tests should be changed or they should be no more.
Standardized Testing can be biased and unfair to students. For example, if a student has special needs,

Many people can argue that the standardized tests do not limit the curriculum but rather focus on the
important basic skills that all students need to master. According to a study in the Oct. 28, 2005, issue
of the peer reviewed Education Policy Analysis Archives, teachers in four Minnesota school districts
said standardized testing had a positive impact, improving the quality of the curriculum while raising
student achievement. The thing about standardized testing is that most parents approve of these tests.
Associated Press NORC Center for Public Affairs Research conducted a poll to see how parents felt
about standardized testing. The poll found that 75% of parents say standardized tests are a solid
measure of their children s abilities and 69% say the tests are a good measure of the schools quality.
93% of parents say standardized tests should be used to identify areas where students need extra help

Persuasive Essay On Feminism
Feminism has been around for many centuries, it ll be around for more years to come. Women want to
be seen equal to men, but that can t happen because most men think it s okay the way most women are
treated. Feminist want equality, most feminist don t think females is the admirable sex. On the other
hand most feminist do think females are the superior sex, they sometimes take the role of being a
feminist to a whole new level. Some question whether only girls are allowed to be feminist, this isn t
true. If feminists want equality they can t turn down a someone because of their gender. We need to
show the world the true meaning of feminism, they think what they see on the news is the true
feminist. Feminism isn t thinking females are better than men, we need to show that to the world.
Although women aren t treated the same as men, feminist are working hard for gender equality.
Feminism has gone back to the 1792, the Vindication of Women s Rights, was one of the first feminist
movement. The true question is what is feminism? Feminism is the want of women s rights and
equality of sexes. Feminist want the equality for both genders, no gender is superior to the other.
Women go through many things everyday, for instance women everyday are being sexually harassed.
The women s accounts portray James Toback as a man who, for decades, sexually harassed women he
hired, women looking for work and women he just saw on the street (Whipp, Glenn Los Angeles

simply believe women can t do the same as they can. Women should only stick with household duties,

Animal Testing And Its Impact On The Environment
Animal Testing
According to the Oxford dictionary, the feeling of suffering is described as the state of undergoing
pain, distress or hardship. But does that definition truly cover all of the grounds under which such
feeling can be experienced? Animal testing involves the use of nonhuman species to research a variety
of products for their positive and negative outcomes. This action is carried on for the benefit of
humanity without the consideration of the animals being involved. Such act features the use of
hazardous practices that harm innocent animals, leaving them psychologically and physically
traumatized. Still, the research is considered practical since it s the closest way scientists can get to
analyze a living body without harming humans. Historically, animals have been used within the
scientific community, and as a result began to press issues regarding what the society of today and its
future hold concerning what is ethical, how animal testing has a significant role on the environment,
and how domestic and foreign economics influence its continuation, modification or elimination in the
United States.
Historical and Political
Animal experimentation can be used to gain further understanding of the biology and anatomy of that
creature or even humans. The notion of animals being able to serve as a model for humans was
supported by Charles Darwin s evolutionary theory in 1859 (Hawkins). Even prior to this theory,
however, surgery on animals became popular in ancient

requirements of business in the trade industry. The embargo also known as the blockade signed by
President Kennedy Feb. 3, 1962, consist of economic sanctions against Cuba and restrictions on Cuba
travel and commerce for all people and business under the U.S jurisdiction (Cuba
embargo.procon.org) and acts of communist powers. It will only benefit the Government of Cuba and
not be beneficial to the citizens within the Island meaning that the money of financial gain only
supports the Government and overall not the biggest satisfaction of the society in the Cuban Island.
The political viewpoint of the perspective is that the United States having more than 75 countries they
do trade with around the world, Cuba that only has done trade with just about 7 countries such as
companies of Canada, Europe, and Latin America, those countries have not enjoyed economic
relationship. I personally think that their will be no difference if the president was to uplift the act
against Cuba they have failed to meet the expectations of deliberately honoring their commitment as a
friend or business to relay on. In 2012 Cuba was deeply in debt and owed $13.6 billion although few
countries still remain to import and export goods with them. For over 55 years the Unites States has
had restrictions hold against Cuba since 1982 the

Technology Advantages And Disadvantages Of The New Technology
Technology Advantages/Disadvantages
This world had become more, and more dependent on the new technology. People around the world
are adapting to this new technology and they like it, but the new technology it s destroying social
interactions. I have experience situation where I work at, the place where I work is in a Mexican
restaurant, they are families that come together to talk about their lives, experiences, personal event
etc.... but now day s mostly young adults are on their phones and they don t pay attention. They think
that their phones, iPad, music player, or any other device is more important than their family. In my
own opinion when you have the time to get together as a family, they should talk about what happened
today in their day, are there any problems that we can help, or even just talk. Or even more shocking,
the new technology is making people more lazy than ever I would say, because for example in a
situation where you have to choose to either go outside and play soccer with your friends, but instead
you choose to stay inside playing soccer, but in the computer which you only have to move your
hands, in the other hand if you go outside you can play and actually move your hands, legs and even
talk and laugh with your friends. I myself think that it has impact my life in good and bad way. The
good thing about the new technology is that I have more contact with my family in Mexico; I can
connect my phone through Bluetooth in my car, I can transfer my YouTube

Essay on Nike Cost of Capital Case
NIKE, INC.: COST OF CAPITAL
On July 5, 2001, Kimi Ford, a portfolio manager at NorthPoint Group, a mutual fund management
firm, pored over analysts write ups of Nike, Inc., the athletic shoe manufacturer. Nike s share price
had declined significantly from the beginning of the year. Ford was considering buying some shares
for the fund she managed, the NorthPoint Large Cap Fund, which invested mostly in Fortune 500
companies, with an emphasis on value investing. Its top holdings included ExxonMobil, General
Motors, McDonald s, 3M, and other large cap, generally old economy stocks. While the stock market
had declined over the last 18 months, the NorthPoint Large Cap Fund had performed extremely well.

Analysts reactions were mixed. Some thought the financial targets were too aggressive; others saw

Kimi Ford read all the analysts reports that she could find about the June 28 meeting, but the reports

decided instead to develop her own discounted cash flow forecast to come to a clearer conclusion.

Explain How Individuals Are Taught To Become Good Leaders
1. What is your initial reaction to the question, Are leaders born or can they be taught?
I personally thought and think that anyone can be a leader. I feel this way because there are different
kinds of leaders. I also think leaders can be taught by learning from examples set forth from other
great leaders.
2. Now, use the Internet and find at least three articles or sites that discuss leadership. Based on your
work, how is leadership defined? What are some of the best practices of leaders?
Based on the information that I found leadership means a person who is able to motivate, direct others
to achieve goals and inspire along the way. One of the practices that stood out to me was helping
people to achieve what they think is the impossible. Another practice I found to be amazing is being a
leader is lifting others up and serving those who work with you.

Explain how individuals are taught to become good leaders.
Leadership can be taught to the individuals that are willing to learn. They practice by learning from
mistakes and gaining experience along the way. Most leaders learn from examples of other leaders.
Additionally, Leaders never stop learning enabling a person to become the kind of leader they want to
be.
6. Finally, are individuals mostly born or are they taught to become successful leaders? Explain. I
think that most leaders are taught to lead. While a person may have more of an outgoing personality
trait than others it does not mean they cannot be great leaders. As long as a individual is open to new
learning experiences they are able to lead. I do not think that people are just born to lead, a leader
needs real world education and experience. As long as, people are willing to learn every step of the

The Labor Market Of The Labour Market
The labour market is defined as the place where employment and employee interaction take place,
otherwise known as Job Sector . In the labour market, employers and companies whether big or small
always compete to hire the best skilled, highly motivated and hard working of individuals to compete
for the best job available. (Economic, 2015). A labour market in complex terms is defined as an
economic function which supplies different level of demand and supply of labour (Webster, 2015).
E.g. labour demand is essentially the firm s demand for labour whether high or low depending on
certain factors influencing the demand whereas supply is often explained via the individual employee
s supply of labour via how much input and output they apply to the job.
My chosen field of work is going to be in the business marketing sector such as Commercial
Marketing and will be analysing the labour market within marketing and distinguish what the
influences change in the labour market concerning marketing. Location of the job would preferably in
the London districts mostly central London.
Current labour market trends have to be thoroughly and constantly analysed to get a perspective on
how they affect the labour supply and demand on certain areas such as marketing and other business
sectors yearly as market trends are constantly fluctuating. Recent future graduate statistics for the
previous years have given us a clear window of the up rise and downfall of the market trends as

Dubliners Dilemma Analysis
The Dubliners Dilemma is a one man show directed and performed by Declan Gorman. The story was
about an author James Joyce was having a hard time to publish his book Dubliners . But later on there
was Mr. Grant Richards an early potential publisher but quite nervous whether it would be a threat to
him and his firm or not since this book contents some sensitive information. However, at the end he
decided to give it a try after numerous rejections before and the book was finally published in 1914.
Adaptations of Joyce s works and stage biographies of the writer abound, making it hard for a writer
to determine his effort and to create an appeal that will extend beyond tourist audiences or Joyce
aficionados. Gorman, a compelling performer, frames his Joyce a montage on the fraught publishing
battle that preceded the appearance of Dubliners in 1914. Most of the drama, however, consists of
nearly verbatim enactments of Joyce s texts of An Encounter , Counterparts , A Mother and Two
Gallants . Gorman enacts roles from that of the insufferable snob, Mrs. Kearney, the eponymous mum
of the latter story, to the little boys in the others. Set in the offices of Grant Richards, Joyce s cautious
but eventual publisher, Gorman as Richards, begins his correspondence with the author in Eoghan
Darcy and Edward Stevenson s clever, utilitarian set comprised of stacks of folded cardboard boxes
the size of reams of paper which function as office furniture.

The Future of California
The future of California is pretty good, for the state is projected to see growth in almost every sector
of the economy as well as the population, but there are many concerns that must be addressed first in
order to see California s growth come to fruition. International trade and business is one of California
s largest industries and it s expected to continue increasing, for many emerging economies are also
located off of the Pacific Ocean. Growth in the economy is good, but requires resources that California
has a limited supply of. The main resource California always needs is water, since most of the state s
population resides in the southern regions, which are arid and receive minimal precipitation annually.
The state is planning on improving efficiency and the aqueduct system to increase the water supply
while decrease the environmental effects California s aqueduct s have on regions like the San Joaquin
River Delta. For many years California has been considered a very liberal and left state, which is due
to the fact that the state has the toughest environmental legislation in the country. With such strong
legislation ensuring the protection of the environment California has become a model state in the fight
against climate change, and must remain vigilant for there are numerous species endemic to the state
that are found nowhere else on the planet. Though there are numerous other factors affecting

The Ph Of A Solution
The pH of a solution is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration in the solution. It can be defined
as the negative log of the hydrogen ion concentration. pH = log [H+]
When the pH of a solution is below 7, it is an acidic solution. This means that there is a higher
concentration of free H+ ions in the solution. When the pH of a solution is above 7, it is a basic
solution and it means that there is a higher concentration of OH ions in the solution. This is because
the bases tend to lose their electrons and bond with protons. So When the pH = 7, the solution is
neutral. In other words, the acidity of the solution decreases with higher pH values. The pH ... Show

The salts can be derived from strong acids and bases making the solution neutral, from strong acids
and weak bases making the solution acidic, from weak acids and strong bases making the solution

resist changes in pH. They contain a Bronsted Lowry conjugate acid base pair where either the acid or
the base is a weak electrolyte. They play an important role in our life processes. The chemical
reactions take place at a specific pH in our body and it is very vital to maintain that pH. When there
arise some changes in the pH, this is where buffers come into play. For example, the carbonic acid
base buffer helps to achieve the acid base balance in the blood. Buffers also help to maintain the
homeostasis of the cells. Antacids help people with their heartburns, which are caused due to excess
acid that tries to escape through the pyloric sphincter into the esophagus. This therefore causes
heartburn. Antacids behave as buffers by neutralizing the excess acid present in the stomach.
Examples of antacids are Alka Selzer, Tums, Briochi, Pepto Bismol, Bromo Selzer, Rolaids, Maalox,
Mylanta etc. Antacids have a certain neutralizing capacity and the greater it is, more

Modern Birth Control And Gender Roles Essay
Before the introduction of modern birth control, gender roles emphasized the responsibility of women
to conceive and raise children. Although this began to change in the in the mid twentieth century, with
the introduction of the first hormonal birth control pill, Enovid, taking place in 1960, it was not readily
accessible during that time period (Buttar and Seward, 2009, p. 1 3). This did not change during the
time period immediately following the introduction either; five years after the introduction of Enovid,
there was still controversy surrounding the use of contraceptives. In the Supreme Court case of
Griswold v. Connecticut, the legality of birth control on the market was debated, and the case
concluded with the allowance of hormonal contraceptives, but it was limited to married couples only
under the right of marital privacy (George and Lewis, 2016, p. 1). The controversy and secrecy that
surrounded the use of birth control shortly after its introduction indicates that although it was certainly
present and used in society during this time period, it still carried the negative social connotations of
the past, which prevented it from being socially normalized. In contrast, the standardization of birth
control in society took place decades later, from approximately the 1990 to 2010s.
In contemporary American society, birth control has become more readily accessible to women, which
is indicated by the increased usage of contraception in society. The number of birth

An Emergency Motion Filed By Sga Presidential Candidate...
A court order has ruled to deny an emergency motion filed by SGA presidential candidate Jacob
Milich in his constitutional challenge case against UCF.
The ruling was made on March 15, a day before Sen. Milich was scheduled to appear before the SGA
elections commission for alleged campaign violations.
On March 10, Milich filed a lawsuit against the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees, UCF
s Student Government Association, SGA s election commission, student body president Cait Zona,
supervisor of elections Whitney Barnes and Maribeth Ehasz, vice president of Student Development
and Enrollment Services.
The case complaint cited violations of Milich s First Amendment rights, violations to the federal
Family and Educational Rights and Privacy Act and violations of the state s Sunshine Laws, according
to court documents.
Milich requested the emergency motion in the initial filing in which he maintained that unless he
received preliminary injunctive relief, defendants will imminently and continuously violate his rights,
according to court documents.
Although his request for injunctive relief was denied, Judge Janet Thorpe of the ninth judicial court
did grant a motion for an expedited hearing.
David Oglethorpe, communications coordinator for the Office of Student Involvement, said that
although election violation hearings have traditionally been open, the hearings scheduled to occur on
March 16 and 17 were closed.

Symbolism in The Storm
The Storm , written by Kate Chopin in 1898, examines the uncontrollable desires of a young wife,
lured into the arms of her past lover as her husband and son are caught in a storm. Bobinôt and four
year old Bibi are running errands when the storm suddenly hit. Bobinôt s wife, Calixta was at home
sewing when she noticed the severe storm happening outside. When Calixta went outside to gather
some clothing, her old lover Alcée asked for shelter during the storm. Through her use of symbolism,

storm has moved on. It seems as though the rain has washed away their sin of adultery, because when
they walk outside the world is shiny and bright. All this time, Bobinôt and Bibi have been waiting at
the store. When the storm finally passes, they are able to go home. On their way, Bobinôt is afraid that
his wife will be angry with him for taking so long at the store and for not being presentable. To his

Theory of Knowledge and Reason
History is most often associated with past events, other associations being hypothetical : interpreting
what if theories and revisionist history. The human sciences deals with multiple fields, but those fields
all generally include the factor of the human population or the human individual, hence the name
human sciences. It is said that a historian s task is to understand the past, while the human scientist s
task is to change the future. Yet there are counterclaims to these descriptions of a historian s and a
human scientist s task. These descriptions may not be completely true in the areas of knowledge. In
the areas of knowledge of history and the human sciences, individuals come to know the task of a
historian and human scientist through language and reason. Historians come to know the past through
surviving records and texts. This is the language aspect of history. It is through the language of those
texts, that individuals come to know what the past was like. A famous example is the deciphering of
Egyptian hieroglyphs. Historians came to know what the hieroglyphs were saying mainly through the
Rosetta Stone, an object that contained Egyptian hieroglyphs, Demotic script, and Ancient Greek in
the form of three texts with the same content. Had the Rosetta Stone not been found, historians may
still be struggling to understand hieroglyphs today. This way of knowing though has flaws. Due to

Developing Wireless Communications to Space Essay
A big potential problem in the future is developing a wireless communications network in outer space.
In this paper we will discuss the problems presented with this and the potential solutions to these
problems using existing and some futuristic technology. We have broke this into two main parts, one
being earth to satellite to planet and back, and the other being planetary ground transmission to and
from astronauts to rovers to space stations.
The solution has already started being implemented and will continue rapidly into the near future. It is
called the Interplanetary Internet. As of now it is an array of floating nodes or satellites scattered
around in space that can communicate with each other. In the future a ... Show more content on

On the earth we are only separated from one another by fractions of a second. From earth to mars the
average transmission time is 30 45 minutes. That would feel like light years trying to download tracks
to your iPod.
In order to make this work a massive system of satellites needs to be implemented. These satellites
will serve as net gateways with the purpose of conveying data packets. Each piece of equipment will
have its own IPN address, or .mars domain name. They will serve as nodes, operating on a packet
switched network.
Some major possible problems include lag, weak signal, and reduced bandwidth. The solution to all of
these lies in a new IPN protocol being developed. This protocol, along with high precision equipment,
will help to eliminated all of these. The protocol has changed in two major ways from our own TCP/IP
protocol. This first is a packet delivery scheme that won t clog the system by resending missing
packets. IPN instead keeps track of arriving packets and then requesting missing ones at the end of
delivery. The second is the packet headers will use only one tenth as much bandwidth as TCP/IP. Back
on earth there will be gateways to translate.
Another big problem with the Interplanetary Internet is speed. Using our current technology the top
speed for sending data from a satellite orbiting mars to earth is 250 kbps. Down on mars, in a dusty
unknown atmosphere with not much power, this is more like 10 kbps. The solution

Analysis Of Traveling Through The Dark By William Stafford
In the poem Traveling through the dark by William Stafford, he describes how he came across a dead
pregnant doe as he was driving his car along a mountain road. It was a wined and narrow road so he
decided it would be best if the deer was moved into the canyon by the road to avoid more casualties.
He conveyed the theme of having to make a tough decision and that life goes on. When he noticed the
deer was pregnant in stanza three, he felt pity but knew he could not do anything to help the doe or the
fawn. His hesitation in the last sentence of stanza three was him thinking to maybe save the fawn, but
then to come to realization of there not being much he could do but let nature take its course.

pressured Columbia to declare Panama independent. Theodore did not care about the panamanians he
cared about the land. Panama is an isthmus, an isthmus is a piece of land connecting two large land
masses such as North and South America. People have been dreaming of connecting the Atlantic and
Pacific Ocean for hundreds of years. John Findley Wallace resigned so President Theodore gave the
job to someone else John Frank Stevens. Stevens had an idea instead of digging out the mountain they
would build steps to get over it. They used railroads to move dirt, supplies, and machines. It took a
while, however they used dams to block water, made artificial lakes so the boats could get across,
gravity to fill the locks, and make locks. Locks are like steps, you fill it with water, open up the gates
and keep getting higher. The Panama Canal was not just a marvelous structure, it changed the power
of the Earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constructing the Panama Canal was not easy, they had to overcome diseases, deaths, machine
problems and many more. Yellow fever has been around for centuries and the workers in panama
contracted it. Not only that but mosquitoes that were carrying around malaria got a lot of the
population sick/ infected. A man named walter reed had contracted malaria and survived. He requested
1 million for sanitation and killing mosquitoes but got denied, then he got the money he requested. He
reduced the amount of infected people down to 5%. Besides diseases and animals there were bigger
problems. The land. It was not level and there were mountains in the way. So they built locks to go
over the mountains, but there is also flooding there so they built a dam. Still to this day their are still
problems with the

How to Cope with the Promises and Perils of Technology
We are all technologists. We all believe in progress. But not all in the same way.
The politics of engineering is as complicated as engineering itself, and as contested as man and nature
that usually enrich political debates. The mission of an engineer is essentially savoring it, defending it,
and improving it, but also coping with it and transcending it. There is nothing especially laudable in
romanticizing lost worlds, or pretending that societies without skyscrapers or modern communication
are more authentic than our own, or believing that disarming ourselves will make the perils of
technological power disappear. May we not fantasize that the present world is necessarily the finest
human achievement yet, or that politically necessary and morally justified uses of technological power
are wholly innocent. For, they usually are not.
Our problem is that of ensuring whether the future we believe in is worthy of our devotion. In other
words, it is about how we cope with the promises and perils of technology. Answering this question
will require clear thinking about scientific prospects, distinguishing wild speculations from scientific
reality, and describing technological possibilities in a way that common man can judge and
understand. It will require political leadership with a deeper understanding of engineering, and
engineers who accept that technological expertise does not guarantee its balanced application to
humanity.
The problem of engineering how to spread its

Humanism In Thomas More s Utopia By Thomas More
Thomas More writes Utopia, the comedic, fictional travel log about a no place society to discuss the
various religious, political, and social ideals influenced by humanism. A medieval classically trained
humanist, Thomas More is also influenced by the late medieval social, political, and religious
movements developing from the Plague and the Hundred Years War. In Utopia, More illustrates a
humanist society by discussing agriculture in the economy, religion and happiness, and the structure of
the government which was ultimately influenced by the late medieval ideals.
Thomas More elaborates on economy in his book Utopia comparing it to the economy in Europe. The
economy of Utopia is based on agriculture. Although agriculture is not a luxurious job, everyone has
to do it because it is a shared experience. One will not complete this task for more than two years
because everyone rotates in and out of the job. This is an example of humanism as the society
recognizes that individuals need relief. Human beings are not to be exploited, it is a joint effort as seen
through the idea of civic humanism; commoners are social utilities. In comparison to Utopia, the land
in England was owned by the lords. The farmers worked for the lords who eventually profited from
the land. Agricultural was a job for the poor, watched over by the wealthy. In Utopia, each city had its
own land, owned by the cities who then profit from the land. Therefore, they are not exploiting
another humans labor

Theme Of Communication In Hills Like White Elephants
Communication is inarguably the most effective way of understanding and interacting with one
another. In the stories Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway, and My Son the Fanatic by
Hanif Kureishi, the main characters communicate verbally. The American guy and the girl who are
presumably dating each other in Hills Like White Elephants , as well as Parvez a Pakistani immigrant
to England and his teenage son Ali in My Son the Fanatic , communicate throughout the stories. The
characters communication tells their characteristics, we can then acknowledge the broken relationship
between the American and the girl, and between Parvez and Ali through their communication. On the
other hand, the characters in both the stories have different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Hills Like White Elephants , it is couple relationship that causes by an unborn child. After looking
off the line of hills the girl says they look like white elephants (page 1), which symbolizes unwanted
things, or the unborn baby. Later after her discussion with the American about the abortion she says I
know. But if I do it, then it will be nice again if I say things are like white elephants and you ll like it?
(page 3), which shows that she retracted her previous thought about not keeping the child. However,
the American does not want to keep the child, but still hoping to save their broken relationship I ll love
it. I love it now but I just can t think about it. You know how I get when I worry. (page 3). I don t want
you to do anything that you don t want to do (page 4), says the American. Towards the end of the story
the girl says would you please please please please please please please stop talking? (page 5), which
tells us that the girl knows that their broken relationship can not be saved anymore. Furthermore, the
relationship in My Son the Fanatic deals with a father son relationship. One night after Parvez notices
that his son is changing, he says to his taxi driver colleagues I can t understand it! he burst out.
Everything is gone from his room. And I can t talk to him anymore. We were not father and son we
were brothers! Where has he gone? Why is he torturing me? (page 2). One of the reasons of their
broken relationship is that both of them have contradicting views, Parvez asks Ali What has made you
like this? , living in this country replies Ali, but I love England, they let you do almost anything here.
says Parvez, that is the problem Ali says (page 5). Parvez who appears to be conservative prefers to
have modern life styles, but Ali who is a teenager chooses to live his life on the Islamic belief.

Spruce Run Environmental Issues
The reservoir at Spruce Run in Clinton, New Jersey is used for a variety of recreational activities, such
as picnicking, swimming, fishing, and boating. The surrounding area has trails, hills, and parking lot
areas for visitors. Twenty nine species of fish are reportedly contained within the waters of Spruce
Run including largemouth bass, catfish, sunfish, yellow perch and carp. The reservoir was one of the
first water supply facilities to be constructed and operated by the state and covers 1,290 acres with 15
miles of shoreline for recreation, making Spruce Run the third largest reservoir in the state. The 11

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), High levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in our lakes, rivers,
streams, and drinking water sources cause the degradation of these water bodies and harm fish,
wildlife, and human health. In the 2000 National Water Quality Inventory, states reported that
agricultural nonpoint source (NPS) pollution was the leading source of water quality impacts on
surveyed rivers and lakes, as well as the second largest source of impairments to wetlands, and a
major contributor to contamination of surveyed estuaries and groundwater. Agricultural activities that
cause NPS pollution include poorly located or managed animal feeding operations; overgrazing;
plowing too often or at the wrong time; and improper, excessive or poorly timed application of
pesticides, irrigation water and fertilizer. Since the 1960s, the high input of agriculture production has
resulted in the surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus in farm fields, which run off into surface waters.
High concentrations of nitrates and phosphates in surface waters could lead to eutrophication and
instability of the aquatic ecosystems. Eutrophication is caused by the over enrichment of water with
phosphates and nitrates, a problem that has become a widespread in rivers, lakes, estuaries, and coastal

Analysis Of Mommy Dead And Dearest
Mommy Dead Dearest
Imagine your own family member constantly manipulating you into thinking you were going to be
forever young. Now imagine that person telling every individual that you cannot care for yourself nor
will ever get better. To be completely honest, that is a scary thought, not having any control over your
own body and believing your caretaker that you are mentally incapacitate to care for yourself. The
documentary I chose to watch and write about is Mommy Dead Dearest, this documentary was
released 11 March 2017 and the director is Erin Lee Carr. In this documentary, we see Dee Dee and
Gypsy s narrative who brings Munchausen Syndrome by proxy a form of child abuse that involves a
caretaker making up an illness for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dee Dee was tested for muscular dystrophy. She had brain and spine scans and a muscle biopsy. She
was eventually confined to a wheel chair because she couldn t walk. Dee Dee thought Gypsy had
sleep apnea so she took her to the hospital almost every day to lie about different illnesses and seek
medication that Gypsy wouldn t need.
Many years later, June 2015, Gypsy is now serving 10 years in prison for plotting her mother s
murder. I would have never expected the documentary to end the way it did. However, according to
text messages and interrogation room footage included in the documentary, Gypsy s boyfriend
sneaked into their house and allegedly stabbed Dee Dee while Gypsy hid in the bathroom. Gypsy and
her boyfriend proceeded to take several thousand dollars from a safe at Dee Dee s home and spent
some time in Springfield following her mother s death. Disturbing Facebook posts were made,
exclaiming Gypsy s boyfriend murdered her mother. I strongly believe watching the documentary
really triggers people s emotions. The amount of abuse Gypsy endured, mentally, physically, nobody
should have to ever go through that. Viewing as Gypsy s perspective, I can see why she felt the need
to kill her mother. There was a lot of hatred in her heart and probably even more hatred knowing she
was perfectly well and her mom just manipulated her throughout her childhood into adulthood. My
heart really aches for her, although first degree murder wasn t the

Latin American Stereotypes
Hollywood portrays Latin Americans as the view the United States as better a better and superior
country compared to theirs. Broader political and social issues have shaped this representation, which
has influenced the people s perception of Latin Americans in the United States. The films pose Latin
American as inferior in integrity and low intelligence as they are not worthy of the citizenship right in
the United States. According to Berumen, Hollywood portrays the Latin as inevitably seeking political
and social guidance, acceptance, and enlightenment of the Anglo, which is in this case the United
States (P.14). Berumen believes that the negative stereotypes portrayed that is predictable, are aspiring
the American dream to have a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the film Jack and Jill , the Mexican garden jokes about how his wife is trying to sneak
into heaven, referring back to the issue of illegal immigration . They always try to view them as the
outsiders and others as they are not similar to the American Anglos. Hollywood does not show the
talents that the immigrant talent might have, but instead, the roles that they portrays tend to be
offensive for the most part and downright racist with the exception of films. Berumen continues as
racism and prejudice festered and flourished in films, and people of darker skins were the primary
victims: Latins, Blacks, American Indians, and Asians (p.13) The racism towards Latin American also
goes back before the cinematic revolution, as the Anglos see themselves as a better race and ethnic
group then the lotions, which the idea is transmitted to film screens later on. Hollywood is trying to
portray the United States as the land of opportunities, chances and dreams, unlike how it portrays the
Latin American countries as sad, dangerous, and no opportunities are available. The way that the
American cinema draws the stereotypes tends to stick with viewers, for instance, my friend and I were
talking about Latin America and she said that she would never go there because it is dangerous

The time zones do not affect anything in this problem. There is a certain point that the ship must reach, or have reached at each month. Assuming these things, and having the given knowledge, we are to answer the question, if you were on a ship leaving from New York, how many ships from San Francisco would you see in passing? Process At first, I was confused with this problem and did not know what to do. For this problem, I used only one problem and it was what helped me solve it. With my table group (Derick I), we did a simulation. We first drew out a large map with the points that every ship should reach at the start of every month. Then we kept feeding in the blocks (which we used to act as ships) and did the simulation. Using this strategy, we were able to find the solution. Solution I found that if I were a traveler on a New York ship bound for San Francisco, I would see SEVEN ships from San Francisco, California along the way. This is how I ... • 3. Security And The OSI Model Essay Security and the OSI Model Network security is a topic that reaches far beyond the realm of firewalls, passwords, and user ID accounts. For a network and data to remain secure there must be protective measures at each level in the OSI interconnect model. While each layer basically operates autonomously of the other it is important to ensure that the data being transmitted from the host to destination has not been tampered with or is being prevented from reaching its destination. There are seven level to the OSI interconnect model; each with its own special tasks, abilities, and weaknesses. ARP is a simple protocol that was never designed for authentication. Any end station that has access to the layer two environment can claim any IP address if the proper security measures are not taken. ARP spoofing or ARP poisoning occurs when an attacker s computer forges its credentials to allow the host to believe that it is the intended recipient. If the attackers computer forwards all of the data that is to be sent to the intended host it is very likely that the man in the middle would go undetected. At any time the attacker can make changes to the data that is forwarded, copy and use the data, or flood the network with erroneous packets that cause data collisions and effectively bring network traffic to a halt. The process of wardriving is a new threat that has surfaced with the popularity of 802.11 style wireless connections. Poor security with these devices allows an attacker virtually unrestricted access to the data link layer and beyond. It is not very difficult to walk around various areas in a busy metropolitan area and pick up unsecured wireless signals and gain access to private networks where the owner has little idea of you presence. The third layer is the network layer. In the network layer data is routed through various physical networks while traveling to a known host. Information contained in the network layer allows routers to make decisions on how the data gets to its destination. Security ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We insult each other and sometime we cuss at wach other. For example when we insult each other we often call one another fat, ugly, and dumb. When we insult each other it is not meant to hurt one another feelings. Some time our insult can be harsh but that is how we relieve some stress. Our life is hard when we are at home because we struggle day to day. So when we get the chance to hang out with each we try to make each other laugh. Also when my friend and I decided to do something like skip class or go to a party and someone back out we make fun of them. For example, we will call them scary, wack, or a weenie. We do this for they can feel embarrass and so they can change their mind about backing out. I make fun of them because when I was little my sister and brother always made fun of me because I was the youngest so as I got older I wanted to do it back to other for I can feel like I have the power to change someone s mind. With my siblings, we tend to use body language when we are out in public. We do this when we want to talk about someone we don t like and we do not want to say it out loud. For instance, if we see someone that we do not like we look at each and laugh and look at that person we do not like. What Is Mercutio To Blame Dominic Hanecak Mr. Anderson Period 5 English 1 Honours 9 December 2014 Mercutio: To Blame or Not to Blame There are many tragedies that happen in our lives today, anyone can look in the media, on the web, or just look around a neighborhood to find them. In William Shakespeare s, Romeo and Juliet tragedies happen as well. There are many deaths because of two family s feud. Many people are responsible for the buildup to the tragedies in the play, however one person seems to be the most responsible for these deaths, and this person is Mercutio because of his constant pressure and sense of pride. One of the reasons Mercutio is most responsible for the tragedies in this play is that he is the one who convinces Romeo to go to the party at the Capulets. This is what started the chain of events that led up to the deaths of himself, Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt and Mrs. Montague. Mercutio tells Romeo that he is a lover. He knew he was given the number one police job in the country as the commissioner of the NYPD, and he was ready. He knew that nothing would be possible without the support of his police officers. Morale was one of the big reasons that the NYPD was so run down upon Bratton s arrival. He set out to the 103rd precinct in Queens to let them know that things are about to change. Bratton carefully selected this precinct as the one he would utilize in making his initial presence felt. Morale was exceptionally low in this precinct due to the murder of Officer Ed Byrne. In February of 1988 Officer Byrne was sitting in his patrol car guarding the home of a man who had informed on a drug dealer when he was shot to death by drug dealers. That was a vicious indicator of the life and times of police officers during that era, and Bratton knew it. As Bratton s first official act as police commissioner, he stood in front of the 103 and began: I said when I took this job that we would take this city back for the good people that live here, neighborhood by neighborhood, block by block, house by house. But I m going to need your help in doing that. I m going to need all of you in the game. I want my cops to be cops. I want them to be assertive. It is vague whether the poet is openly communicating with her or is it only a conversation that is occurring in his mind. However, I will assume that it is a conversation that is a reality and that the poet is communicating directly with the woman as the poem indicates in the first stanza She says : (Line2) and She insists (Line4) also mentioned in the final stanza She says (Line8). By looking at this image, it already outlines that we as society relay on having the perfect ideal women body, which is being thin and skinny. Society also implies that valuing body image and perfection is significant that children at a very young age are already influenced negatively growing up with a corrupted mindset. The little girl in the photo is already measuring her waistline with a measuring tape at such a young age. She is already feeling like she must be skinny to fit into society and is conscious of her size, teaching her that she must look a certain way. This according to the Western countries is having the perfect body image. The media shows such unrealistic images to consumers such as these young girls to try to appear like these ideals that are set for them from society that potentially be harmful and unhealthy which could lead to death because of starvation leading to possible long term health disorders such as anorexia, bulimia nervosa and nervosa. Well to tell you the truth there really is no logical reason why people target Gemini. People could have just as easily targeted Sagittarius or Leo but they chose not to. I believe that one thing that made it easier to target Gemini was the fact that the sign Gemini stands for the constellation of the twins so you could call them two faced . They make such great pets because unlike dogs, they do not have to be given their daily walk. They also do their own exercise swimming inside a tank, making leashes unnecessary. Another advantage of having goldfishes as pets is that they don t have to be groomed daily like cats or dogs. This is good news for people who are allergic to cat or dog fur, and for people who cannot afford to have their dogs or cats groomed once or twice a month. Animal Testing And Its Impact On The Environment Animal Testing According to the Oxford dictionary, the feeling of suffering is described as the state of undergoing pain, distress or hardship. But does that definition truly cover all of the grounds under which such feeling can be experienced? Animal testing involves the use of nonhuman species to research a variety of products for their positive and negative outcomes. This action is carried on for the benefit of humanity without the consideration of the animals being involved. Such act features the use of hazardous practices that harm innocent animals, leaving them psychologically and physically traumatized. Still, the research is considered practical since it s the closest way scientists can get to analyze a living body without harming humans. Historically, animals have been used within the scientific community, and as a result began to press issues regarding what the society of today and its future hold concerning what is ethical, how animal testing has a significant role on the environment, and how domestic and foreign economics influence its continuation, modification or elimination in the United States. • 20. The Embargo Act Of Cuba Essay G Jasmaree Rodriguez Ms. Wade Economics December 5, 2016 Cuba Position I think that the Embargo act of Cuba should not be uplifted simply because they do not meet the requirements of business in the trade industry. The embargo also known as the blockade signed by President Kennedy Feb. 3, 1962, consist of economic sanctions against Cuba and restrictions on Cuba travel and commerce for all people and business under the U.S jurisdiction (Cuba embargo.procon.org) and acts of communist powers. It will only benefit the Government of Cuba and not be beneficial to the citizens within the Island meaning that the money of financial gain only supports the Government and overall not the biggest satisfaction of the society in the Cuban Island. The political viewpoint of the perspective is that the United States having more than 75 countries they do trade with around the world, Cuba that only has done trade with just about 7 countries such as companies of Canada, Europe, and Latin America, those countries have not enjoyed economic relationship. I personally think that their will be no difference if the president was to uplift the act against Cuba they have failed to meet the expectations of deliberately honoring their commitment as a friend or business to relay on. In 2012 Cuba was deeply in debt and owed $13.6 billion although few countries still remain to import and export goods with them. They think that their phones, iPad, music player, or any other device is more important than their family. In my own opinion when you have the time to get together as a family, they should talk about what happened today in their day, are there any problems that we can help, or even just talk. Or even more shocking, the new technology is making people more lazy than ever I would say, because for example in a situation where you have to choose to either go outside and play soccer with your friends, but instead you choose to stay inside playing soccer, but in the computer which you only have to move your hands, in the other hand if you go outside you can play and actually move your hands, legs and even talk and laugh with your friends. • 25. Dubliners Dilemma Analysis The Dubliners Dilemma is a one man show directed and performed by Declan Gorman. The story was about an author James Joyce was having a hard time to publish his book Dubliners . But later on there was Mr. Grant Richards an early potential publisher but quite nervous whether it would be a threat to him and his firm or not since this book contents some sensitive information. However, at the end he decided to give it a try after numerous rejections before and the book was finally published in 1914. Adaptations of Joyce s works and stage biographies of the writer abound, making it hard for a writer to determine his effort and to create an appeal that will extend beyond tourist audiences or Joyce aficionados. Gorman, a compelling performer, frames his Joyce a montage on the fraught publishing battle that preceded the appearance of Dubliners in 1914. Most of the drama, however, consists of nearly verbatim enactments of Joyce s texts of An Encounter , Counterparts , A Mother and Two Gallants . Gorman enacts roles from that of the insufferable snob, Mrs. Kearney, the eponymous mum of the latter story, to the little boys in the others. Set in the offices of Grant Richards, Joyce s cautious but eventual publisher, Gorman as Richards, begins his correspondence with the author in Eoghan Darcy and Edward Stevenson s clever, utilitarian set comprised of stacks of folded cardboard boxes the size of reams of paper which function as office furniture. It can be defined as the negative log of the hydrogen ion concentration. pH = log [H+] When the pH of a solution is below 7, it is an acidic solution. This means that there is a higher concentration of free H+ ions in the solution. When the pH of a solution is above 7, it is a basic solution and it means that there is a higher concentration of OH ions in the solution. This is because the bases tend to lose their electrons and bond with protons. So When the pH = 7, the solution is neutral. In other words, the acidity of the solution decreases with higher pH values. They play an important role in our life processes. The chemical reactions take place at a specific pH in our body and it is very vital to maintain that pH. When there arise some changes in the pH, this is where buffers come into play. For example, the carbonic acid base buffer helps to achieve the acid base balance in the blood. Buffers also help to maintain the homeostasis of the cells. Antacids help people with their heartburns, which are caused due to excess acid that tries to escape through the pyloric sphincter into the esophagus. This therefore causes heartburn. Antacids behave as buffers by neutralizing the excess acid present in the stomach. • 29. Modern Birth Control And Gender Roles Essay Before the introduction of modern birth control, gender roles emphasized the responsibility of women to conceive and raise children. Although this began to change in the in the mid twentieth century, with the introduction of the first hormonal birth control pill, Enovid, taking place in 1960, it was not readily accessible during that time period (Buttar and Seward, 2009, p. 1 3). This did not change during the time period immediately following the introduction either; five years after the introduction of Enovid, there was still controversy surrounding the use of contraceptives. In the Supreme Court case of Griswold v. Connecticut, the legality of birth control on the market was debated, and the case concluded with the allowance of hormonal contraceptives, but it was limited to married couples only under the right of marital privacy (George and Lewis, 2016, p. 1). The controversy and secrecy that surrounded the use of birth control shortly after its introduction indicates that although it was certainly present and used in society during this time period, it still carried the negative social connotations of the past, which prevented it from being socially normalized. In contrast, the standardization of birth control in society took place decades later, from approximately the 1990 to 2010s. In contemporary American society, birth control has become more readily accessible to women, which is indicated by the increased usage of contraception in society. The number of birth ... That would feel like light years trying to download tracks to your iPod. In order to make this work a massive system of satellites needs to be implemented. These satellites will serve as net gateways with the purpose of conveying data packets. Each piece of equipment will have its own IPN address, or .mars domain name. They will serve as nodes, operating on a packet switched network. Some major possible problems include lag, weak signal, and reduced bandwidth. The solution to all of these lies in a new IPN protocol being developed. This protocol, along with high precision equipment, will help to eliminated all of these. The protocol has changed in two major ways from our own TCP/IP protocol. This first is a packet delivery scheme that won t clog the system by resending missing packets. IPN instead keeps track of arriving packets and then requesting missing ones at the end of delivery. The second is the packet headers will use only one tenth as much bandwidth as TCP/IP. Back on earth there will be gateways to translate. Another big problem with the Interplanetary Internet is speed. • 39. Analysis Of Traveling Through The Dark By William Stafford In the poem Traveling through the dark by William Stafford, he describes how he came across a dead pregnant doe as he was driving his car along a mountain road. It was a wined and narrow road so he decided it would be best if the deer was moved into the canyon by the road to avoid more casualties. He conveyed the theme of having to make a tough decision and that life goes on. When he noticed the deer was pregnant in stanza three, he felt pity but knew he could not do anything to help the doe or the fawn. His hesitation in the last sentence of stanza three was him thinking to maybe save the fawn, but then to come to realization of there not being much he could do but let nature take its course. Throughout the poem we see the narrator has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. How To Make The Panama Canal The Panama Canal in my opinion one of the greatest man made canal in the history of the world. The french attempted to make the canal but failed. In the year 1904 President Theodore Roosevelt pressured Columbia to declare Panama independent. Theodore did not care about the panamanians he cared about the land. Panama is an isthmus, an isthmus is a piece of land connecting two large land masses such as North and South America. People have been dreaming of connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean for hundreds of years. John Findley Wallace resigned so President Theodore gave the job to someone else John Frank Stevens. Stevens had an idea instead of digging out the mountain they would build steps to get over it. They used railroads to move dirt, supplies, and machines. It took a while, however they used dams to block water, made artificial lakes so the boats could get across, gravity to fill the locks, and make locks. Locks are like steps, you fill it with water, open up the gates and keep getting higher. The Panama Canal was not just a marvelous structure, it changed the power of the Earth. ... • 41. How to Cope with the Promises and Perils of Technology We are all technologists. We all believe in progress. But not all in the same way. The politics of engineering is as complicated as engineering itself, and as contested as man and nature that usually enrich political debates. The mission of an engineer is essentially savoring it, defending it, and improving it, but also coping with it and transcending it. There is nothing especially laudable in romanticizing lost worlds, or pretending that societies without skyscrapers or modern communication are more authentic than our own, or believing that disarming ourselves will make the perils of technological power disappear. May we not fantasize that the present world is necessarily the finest human achievement yet, or that politically necessary and morally justified uses of technological power are wholly innocent. For, they usually are not. Our problem is that of ensuring whether the future we believe in is worthy of our devotion. In other words, it is about how we cope with the promises and perils of technology. Answering this question will require clear thinking about scientific prospects, distinguishing wild speculations from scientific reality, and describing technological possibilities in a way that common man can judge and understand. It will require political leadership with a deeper understanding of engineering, and engineers who accept that technological expertise does not guarantee its balanced application to humanity. The problem of engineering how to spread its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Humanism In Thomas More s Utopia By Thomas More Thomas More writes Utopia, the comedic, fictional travel log about a no place society to discuss the various religious, political, and social ideals influenced by humanism. A medieval classically trained humanist, Thomas More is also influenced by the late medieval social, political, and religious movements developing from the Plague and the Hundred Years War. In Utopia, More illustrates a humanist society by discussing agriculture in the economy, religion and happiness, and the structure of the government which was ultimately influenced by the late medieval ideals. Thomas More elaborates on economy in his book Utopia comparing it to the economy in Europe. The economy of Utopia is based on agriculture. Although agriculture is not a luxurious job, everyone has to do it because it is a shared experience. One will not complete this task for more than two years because everyone rotates in and out of the job. This is an example of humanism as the society recognizes that individuals need relief. Human beings are not to be exploited, it is a joint effort as seen through the idea of civic humanism; commoners are social utilities. In comparison to Utopia, the land in England was owned by the lords. The farmers worked for the lords who eventually profited from the land. Agricultural was a job for the poor, watched over by the wealthy. In Utopia, each city had its own land, owned by the cities who then profit from the land. Therefore, they are not exploiting another humans labor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the stories Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway, and My Son the Fanatic by Hanif Kureishi, the main characters communicate verbally. The American guy and the girl who are presumably dating each other in Hills Like White Elephants , as well as Parvez a Pakistani immigrant to England and his teenage son Ali in My Son the Fanatic , communicate throughout the stories. One night after Parvez notices that his son is changing, he says to his taxi driver colleagues I can t understand it! he burst out. Everything is gone from his room. And I can t talk to him anymore. We were not father and son we were brothers! Where has he gone? Why is he torturing me? (page 2). Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), High levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in our lakes, rivers, streams, and drinking water sources cause the degradation of these water bodies and harm fish, wildlife, and human health. In the 2000 National Water Quality Inventory, states reported that agricultural nonpoint source (NPS) pollution was the leading source of water quality impacts on surveyed rivers and lakes, as well as the second largest source of impairments to wetlands, and a major contributor to contamination of surveyed estuaries and groundwater. Agricultural activities that cause NPS pollution include poorly located or managed animal feeding operations; overgrazing; plowing too often or at the wrong time; and improper, excessive or poorly timed application of pesticides, irrigation water and fertilizer. Since the 1960s, the high input of agriculture production has resulted in the surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus in farm fields, which run off into surface waters. High concentrations of nitrates and phosphates in surface waters could lead to eutrophication and instability of the aquatic ecosystems. Eutrophication is caused by the over enrichment of water with phosphates and nitrates, a problem that has become a widespread in rivers, lakes, estuaries, and coastal ... The documentary I chose to watch and write about is Mommy Dead Dearest, this documentary was released 11 March 2017 and the director is Erin Lee Carr. Many years later, June 2015, Gypsy is now serving 10 years in prison for plotting her mother s murder. I would have never expected the documentary to end the way it did. However, according to text messages and interrogation room footage included in the documentary, Gypsy s boyfriend sneaked into their house and allegedly stabbed Dee Dee while Gypsy hid in the bathroom. Gypsy and her boyfriend proceeded to take several thousand dollars from a safe at Dee Dee s home and spent some time in Springfield following her mother s death. Disturbing Facebook posts were made, exclaiming Gypsy s boyfriend murdered her mother. I strongly believe watching the documentary really triggers people s emotions. The amount of abuse Gypsy endured, mentally, physically, nobody should have to ever go through that. Viewing as Gypsy s perspective, I can see why she felt the need to kill her mother. There was a lot of hatred in her heart and probably even more hatred knowing she was perfectly well and her mom just manipulated her throughout her childhood into adulthood. Broader political and social issues have shaped this representation, which has influenced the people s perception of Latin Americans in the United States. The films pose Latin American as inferior in integrity and low intelligence as they are not worthy of the citizenship right in the United States. According to Berumen, Hollywood portrays the Latin as inevitably seeking political and social guidance, acceptance, and enlightenment of the Anglo, which is in this case the United States (P.14). For instance, in the film Jack and Jill , the Mexican garden jokes about how his wife is trying to sneak into heaven, referring back to the issue of illegal immigration . Hollywood does not show the talents that the immigrant talent might have, but instead, the roles that they portrays tend to be offensive for the most part and downright racist with the exception of films. Berumen continues as racism and prejudice festered and flourished in films, and people of darker skins were the primary victims: Latins, Blacks, American Indians, and Asians (p.13) The racism towards Latin American also goes back before the cinematic revolution, as the Anglos see themselves as a better race and ethnic group then the lotions, which the idea is transmitted to film screens later on. Hollywood is trying to portray the United States as the land of opportunities, chances and dreams, unlike how it portrays the Latin American countries as sad, dangerous, and no opportunities are available.
