The Industrial Revolution and Imperialism Essay
The concept of imperialism is one that has pervaded nearly every major society or empire throughout
human history. It seems to be a natural consequence of societies growing in size, power, and
knowledge. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries vast changes occurred in Western Europe (and
soon spread elsewhere) that spurred a new round of imperialism the likes of which had not been seen
before. The changes were the industrial revolution that was taking place. Countries were rapidly
advancing to industrial societies producing much greater quantities of goods at much lower costs. The
goods produced ranged everywhere from cotton textiles to military machinery, all of which would
play important roles in rounds of imperialistic expansion that ... Show more content on

An example of this situation occurred involving Britain and India where British merchants exported
great quantities of cotton to England where it would be refined and made into end products for export.
This same situation arose with nearly every other natural resource one could imagine. The world is
abundant with natural resources all from different regions, and European nations saw it as their
opportunity for the taking. Another very important result of the industrial revolution was the
advancement of European weaponry. It was mentioned in a previous module for this course how
something of an arms race began in Western Europe as the societies were separating into different
empires and nations. That would continue with European weapons advancing far beyond what any
other societies could match, there is even the example of a small number of British soldiers defeating
thousands of African soldiers in a matter of hours due to the invention of the maxim gun. The
evolution of European weaponry played several important roles in relation to imperialism. European
weaponry first and foremost made it possible for those nations to dominate indigenous people to
submit to their will in terms of trade. It even opened up new regions such as Japan that had previously
only allowed very minor outside trade. With steamboats that could navigate upstream British soldiers
were able to traverse up the Yangtze River and

Navigating The Csu Global Library
Option #1: Navigating the CSU Global Library
ProQuest and Business Source Complete (EBSCO) are the two databases that are being compared in
this article. Initially ProQuest seems easiest to navigate and provides a wide range of topics. EBSCO
was also chosen due to the focus on business related articles. Comparing these databases on a business
related topic will prove which one has the best outcome. Searching, navigating, narrowing the scope
and using the article tools are all important parts to identifying the right research. Badke (2014) states
in reference to searching databases that if you want results that reflect what you are seeking in your
research question, then use such terminology that comes out of your research question ... Show more

When reviewing the EBSCO help tools it explains that even in a basic search there are still search
options. Help tools similarly explain, options for selecting phrases, choosing AND/OR, and even turn
on a smart text search, which leverages technology to conduct the best results. Without limiting the
search a basic search of mobile banking turns up 11,081 items. This is a much smaller pool than what
ProQuest brought up, however, EBSCO seems to be more business focused and also lists, newspapers,
magazines, trade publications and videos.
Narrowing the Scope of the Search Results
Advanced search seems like the way to go when narrowing down the scope of the research. As you
start typing it provides the user with word suggestions. While typing mobile banking it suggested
consumer and mobile banking and mobile banking adoption. There are also AND, OR and NOT
options. Selections for full text, peer reviewed and scholarly journals are also available. There is even
an option to select all kinds of publication dates. Using suggested topics, plus using the AND feature
(consumer adoption of internet banking) AND (mobile banking adoption) within the past three years
seems like the best bet. The advanced search only narrowed down the results to 710 articles. 710
articles, is still too many and needs to be narrowed down even more. The publication chart on the side
showed the majority of the articles were published in 2015 and 2016. Knowing that technology

Analysis Of The Movie Cleo From 5 , Directed By Agnes...
Cléo from 5 to 7, directed by Agnes Varda, is a film about one woman s struggle to come to terms with
the possibility of her potential illness. Not only is Cléo struggling with her physical health, but she is
also dealing with her beauty and the consequences of being an attractive woman in the modern world
of the 1960s. When examined through the lens of Laura Mulvey s Visual Pleasure and Narrative
Cinema theory, another aspect of the film comes to light. The film seems to objectify Cléo and thus
trivialize her struggles with others perceptions of her throughout the film by adhering to the construct
of the male gaze. Although Cléo from 5 to 7 appears to play into the construct of the male gaze
through the repeated objectification of Cléo, it actually subverts this idea and instead confronts the
viewer, and the notion of women as passive objects to be viewed. Laura Mulvey s theory is built on
the concept of there being pleasure in looking. This manifests itself in two ways. The first is
scopophilia, in which looking itself is a source of pleasure (Mulvey, p. 713). This sort of looking is
active looking, and makes whatever is being looked at passive, receiving the gaze. The second way
that this visual pleasure manifests itself is in its narcissistic form, which is to derive pleasure through
the act of identification with the image seen. The image seen is a more perfect version of the spectator,
making it pleasurable for the spectator to identify with them, to live

American Spirits Were Exceptionally High At The End Of The...
American spirits were exceptionally high at the end of the War of 1812 which brought about a defeat
of the British once again. In the years that followed the War, a sense of national unity materialized
throughout the country as a One Party System grew out of James Monroe s presidency with the
disappearance of the Federalists. The Columbian Centinel proclaimed that this time period after the
War of 1812 was an Era of Good Feelings , a phrase applied to Monroe s presidency ever since. But
contradictory to this label, this time period in American history was actually turbulent, for
sectionalism propagated and a nationwide panic heightened. Therefore, with emerging sectionalism in
subsequent events that followed the War of 1812, the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his presidency, Monroe supported the American System in which the government supported
economic growth and protective measures for domestic manufacturers from foreign competition.
Unfortunately, not everyone favored the American System. In the South especially, Southerners
opposed such a protective tariff for it only supported Northern manufactures, while hurting the
Southern economy at the same time. The South, primarily agricultural with a large exporting
economy, had to import all of its goods having to pay up to ⅓ it s price in tax in order to comply with
the American System. John Randolph, a Southerner, expressed his grievances to Congress hoping to
alleviate the struggles of the South by saying, no one interest in the country should be sacrificed by the
management of taxation to another... the agriculturalists bear the whole front of the war and taxation
(Document A). In saying this Randolph not only questioned Congress s intentions of collecting
revenue and favoring the North, but also its job to regulate commerce, not taxes. The American
System clearly drove a wedge between Northern and Southern interests.
The institution of chartering a Second National Bank also stimulated many controversies. Once again,
the Bank, an element of the American System created to strengthen national currency, placed
commercial interests of the North over farmers and agriculturalists of the South. In the

The Creation And Collapse Of Unified German Empire
The period of one hundred years spanning from the mid nineteenth century to the mid twentieth
century was one hundred years of monumental change. It saw the end of American slavery, the
creation and collapse of unified German Empire, the creation of Eastern European nation states that
emerged from the wreckage of the Austro Hungarian Empire only to fall to the Soviet Union within a
few decades, two world wars, the invention of cars and their erasure of horses from everyday
transportation, the development of nuclear weapons, and the novel concept of photographs become
televisions in the home of the average American family. This period of radical change was made
possible by men who saw the possibility of changing the world and perused it. Regimes fell, borders
were redrawn, and from the ranks of revolutionaries the leaders who would create new orders rose.
Those with innovative ideas, creativity, and the right combination of skills and resources created the
material goods that shaped these crucial years. But as the world progressed at an alarming rate, there
were those who wished to preserve the traditions and values of the past. This desire existed even
among the same minds who brought about the revolutions of the era, and they found themselves
struggling to find the middle ground between these two different objectives. Among them were
American automobile manufacturer Henry Ford, Mexican President Profirio Diaz, and the Turkish
President Mustafa Kamal. While the latter two

The Theory Of Attachment Theory Essay
B1/A2/A*1 John Bowlby s attachment theory is a positive aspect to this transition as the child are
likely to gain secure attachments with their key worker which enables them to work closely with each
other, this then allows the child to be more comfortable with any support they receive throughout the
process, however the child may become too attached to their key worker and may face issues later
when the times comes for them to separate therefore it is important for children to spend time with
other members of staff. Children can be attached to other practitioners other than their key worker so it
is important for both to communicate to ensure that the key worker knows everything about the child
and keep on track with any paperwork they have to complete about the child and keep track of the
child s progress and development. I think that Bowlby attachment theory is important within this
transition as the child going into care needs a secure attachment to someone as the attachment to their
parents will be disrupted and the child needs someone for support especially a child of this age. The
child can make an attachment to their foster carer however this also may be difficult if the child is in
temporary foster care and are removed from care, this may cause the child distress as all the
attachments they have made are being disrupted. There are many criticism of Bowlby s theory, one of
these are that Bowlby believed that Bowlby suggested that a child would initially form only

How Education Is The Key Focus On Improving Test Scores
For many years the government has played a role in how education was run. For decades, politics has
placed its focus on student test scores, how to increase those test scores, and standards that must be
followed in order to achieve the goals the politicians have set. Early childhood education has been the
key focus on improving test scores. According to the politics, test scores must meet above average
levels in order for students to become college and career ready. Greater emphasize is pushed on math
and reading levels to improve before students reach middle grade classes. Politics took more control
and are now pressing for state standardized test to prove student improvements and well as school
improvement. The government has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Developed in 2001 but signed by President Bush in 2002, the NCLB was designed to include all
children the right to the same education, including those with disabilities (Educational Technology,
2012). It was designed to provide parents more options and better teaching methods for their children
with disabilities (Educational Technology, 2012). It described how and what students would be
learning and assessments given to prove their success. The NCLB was designed with academic
standards categorized by each individual state. By the 2005 school year, all states were to prove their
assessments for language arts and math in grades 3 8 every year, then once during their high school
years. By the 2007 school year, science assessments became mandatory. Although the NCLB were
designed to include children with disabilities, they were still expected to partake in the assessments,
even if it meant providing accommodations for them. Some accommodations could include students
with disabilities receiving extra time on test, having a small group management, having test questions
read aloud to them or allowing them to take extra breaks during the test (No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB): An Overview, 2014). Since all schools were to prove a 100 percent annual measurable
objective by the end of the 2013 school year, most states had to apply for a waiver to change their
passing rates from 100 percent to a more realistic goal. Schools argued that the goals for all

Double Bass Drumming Research Paper
The evolution of drumming is quite an interesting story. Many occurrences have contributed to the
changes the kit style of drumming. Traveling through time the drum has become a major part of any
modern day band. Beginning with double drumming, into the invention of the double bass drumming,
and ending with the invention of the modern drumstick. After the civil war, around the 1900 s,
marching drummers tried to figure of how one person could play the whole percussion section.
Double drumming allowed someone to do that; by having one player play both a bass drum beat and
snare drum beat. One popular rhythm that was used in double drumming was a four in a bar bass
drum, while doing a close roll on snare. By 1876, theater orchestras and dance bands had adopted the
technique of drumming into their music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This technique changed the drum kit to have two bass drums instead of just the average one bass drum
kit. Louie Bellson was the first drummer to record a double bass drum part. The recording was the
song, Skin Deep by the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Many drummers practiced double bass drumming
after Louie Bellson, making the technique popular. Double bass drumming opened the door to many
different kinds of music. Different forms of double bass drumming can be found in early rock or
modern day metal. Today s modern day form of double bass drumming is the use of a double bass
pedal. I use double drumming when I preform drum solos and in my everyday playing. Making the

In my opinion the dance and Harries intent was successful because it personally made me view hip
hop differently rather than rap, swag and sway and act like a gangster, I realized that real hip hop
dancers do not have time to do all that because they are doing party dances, with vocabulary and steps
and partner. Harris was able to take street dance and put it on the stage. The hip hop dancers were
trained and they delivered the dance professionally. The design of the dance was magical, there was
concentration, cooperation, communication and creativity. The dancers maintained the rhythm and the
shape of the body was shown by the body and the way it made use of time and space. They costumes
being a key component in the moves matched the description of the dance and this made the
choreographer s idea successful. The lighting was appropriate for the dance; the colors from the

Feminine Mystique Analysis
In Friedan s The Feminine Mystique , she addresses the unspoken problem of women, especially
housewives, in the 1950 s and 60 s. Women were taught to be a mother and wife and to embrace their
femininity. They were also taught to reject academia and pity the neurotic, unfeminine, unhappy
women who wanted to be poets, physicists, or presidents. These women were consuming what was
given to them in pop culture. They dyed their hair blonde and ate chalk to lose weight. The dream for
women during this time was to be the perfect suburban housewife, which included a good marriage,
four children, and nice house in the suburbs.
Friedan states that if a woman had a problem, she knew something was wrong with either herself or
her marriage. Since no one else discussed their dissatisfaction with their wifely duties, the women who
felt this believed they were the only one in this situation and something must be wrong with them.
Friedan calls this the problem that has no name because there was a mass number of women feeling
this way, but no one could put a name to this condition. Women who had this problem described it as
feeling empty and incomplete, as if they didn t exist. Although many women were feeling this way,
the media still portrayed women as happy housewives, further reinforcing that no other women were
feeling that way. Friedan goes on to say that we can no longer ignore this issue and lists the reasons
people had to explain this phenomenon, such as the loss of femininity, too much education, or the
demands of domesticity. She refutes these points, and at the end, Friedan says there is more behind the
problem that has no name and, again, we can no longer ignore it.
In the Barbara Smith reading, she starts out by talking about figuring out a name for her book Home
Girls , and how many black people who are threatened by feminism argue that you have left the race
and are no longer a part of the black community if you are a feminist. Smith states that black feminism
is a natural part of the black experience despite the separation it appears to have from the black
community. Black women, Smith says, have been reluctant to identify with the liberation struggle due
to a number of reasons, including the

Reviews of the Television Version of the Sound of Music Essay
First things first the television show Sound Of Music that was broadcasted in December 5th 2013 and

Neil Meron , the special had a cool cast such as a Carrie Underwood who stared in this show as Maria
von Trapp. It was performed and televised live all over the country from a film studio in Bethpage ,
New York. The history of the show was very interesting so far and how they had famous actors such
as Carrie Underwood , although there was criticism directly to Carrie Underwood who was casting in
the show as Maria , many said that Carrie did not have much experience to play such a big role as
Maria. It was said before that critics described ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Want to know a little bit more about the history well in The Sound Of Music Live was broadcasted
live from a stage in Bethpage , New York in about a budget of 9 million dollars which was not much
you may think but one of the producers named Zadan considered it to be one of the profoundly
complicated , amazing experiences we ve ever had Zadan said. If you didnt know before The Sound
Of Music Live was aired as part of a push by NBC to air more live entertainment specials. As it was
said before that the Sound Of Music was broadcasted among programs such as Sunday Night football ,
the show got in those rankings of views which is incredible ; the sound of music was watched by
18.62 million viewers and had a 4.6 rating in the 18 49 demographic it was one of the most viewed
shows that was programmed at night.

Environmental And Health Hazards Of Burning Coal
2. Environmental And Health Hazards of Burning Coal
Coal is the primary fuel for electricity production in India and its usage is continuously growing to
meet the energy demands of the country. Emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants are
growing in India with the increasing demand for electricity. The aspiration for fast economic growth
lead to grow rapid industrialization coupled with accelerated urbanization and mechanization of
agriculture has been responsible for this increasing need of electricity ever since the independence.
The electricity consumption grew from 375.39 (billion kWh) in 2000 to 600.65 (billion kWh) in 2008
at an annual growth rate of 6.67% , while the electric power production grew from 529.12 billion kWh
in 2000 to 835.27 billion kWh at an annual growth rate of 5.78% .
Main gases are emitted from coal fired and lignite based thermal power plants are CO2, NOx, SOx,
and air borne inorganic particles such as fly ash, carbonaceous material (soot), suspended particulate
matter (SPM), and other trace gas species. Thermal power plants, using about 70% of total coal in
India4 (Garg et. al., 2002), are among the Large Point Sources (LPS) having significant contribution
(47% each for CO2 and SO2) in the total LPS emissions in India.
Large difference between electric power production and consumption are due to transmission and
distribution losses. In India, the losses are extremely high and they are varying between 30 to 45%.

This includes the proclamation and interpretation of Scripture followed by a common meal. Although
Jesus did not directly reveal himself to them, Cleopus and the other disciple recognized Jesus in the

Peter also came to understand the Pascal Reality through the revelation of the Holy Spirit. Peter s
confession of Christ at Caesurae Philippi ( Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not

Jesus instruction to the twelve disciples, Take up your cross and follow me , further reveals how
extemporal realities like the cross guided Jesus actions throughout his earthly ministry. The cross

Walter Benjamin and the past disassociating with present
In Walter Benjamin s Berlin Childhood Around 1900, he applies a variety of concepts with respect to
time: past, present, and future. The concepts are highlighted in his vignettes: Victory Column , The
Telephone , and Butterfly Hunt . Benjamin attempts to imbue his writing with a different structure of
time from what was conventional. He perceives history as a section of moments, and each moment is
an integral whole in its own right, making it equal to the present (Knights). Benjamin also notes that
the ignoring of the past and the focus on the progression of the future causes harmful effects to nature
(Knights). The concept of technological progress appears to give grounds for the domination and
abuse of nature (Patke). Subsequently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Benjamin attributes a sense of delight to his image of the Victory Column , there is also a
contrasting affect of death that permeates through the vignette. There is a portico around the Victory
Column, but it is when Benjamin asserts that this portico was itself the inferno a sense of death
becomes apparent. It is evident that Benjamin wants to spotlight the darkness around the column. It
seems that Benjamin is using this past image to illustrate a sense of responsibility for the innocently
suffered of past generations. Benjamin is placing a redemptive quality to the death of the past
individuals. There is a sense of redemption embedded in his past. Benjamin wants it visible that the
Victory is surrounded by death, which is analogous of his present situation. Sigmund Freud agrees
with Benjamin s reluctance on war as he states war Broke out, and it brought disillusion (Freud 172)
and that A future war, because of such great advances in the means of destruction, would mean the
extermination of one or perhaps both adversaries. (Freud 231). If Germany in Benjamin s present is to
obtain a Victory in its oppressive endeavor, it is through mass death, which is proven through the past.
Thus, the Victory Column depicts Benjamin s past delights before his innocence was corrupted by the
future, and an example of how studying the past and its follies can save immense death.

DDT As Portrayed In Silent Spring By Rachel Carson
According to the World Health Organization, Malaria has over 500 million cases and 2.7 million
deaths every year with it being endemic in 91 countries. Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, or DDT, is
an insecticide that was used for years before there was a huge backlash over the effects on the
environment from the mass usage that culminated in a total ban in the United States in the early
1970s; it also takes down the populations of insects that carry Malaria and other illnesses like it. The
book that started the controversy, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, stated that DDT could cause
cancers and kill humans while no human deaths have ever been officially linked to DDT. The actual
fears over DDT were the environmental consequences of spraying ... Show more content on

This was very effective but the issue arose that there was virtually no limitation on the use of the so
called carcinogen. Currently, somewhere around 14 countries use DDT to fight malaria and it is
helping. There are still huge death tolls due to malaria alone (as seen here using an older algorithm)
and other insect borne illnesses can be eradicated, as news outlets like to call it when they are so rare
that they are almost impossible to get. Not only is it effective at killing mosquitoes but it is also cheap
to use as it only costs around $1.44 per year for one household. This brings me to my next point, the
proper usage of DDT in the modern age is to use very small amounts indoors instead of massive
amounts everywhere, as is the American way. We managed to make malaria one of the most difficult
things to catch in the western hemisphere with DDT and responsible usage can do it again with less
dramatic side effects. With both cost and efficiency being the most important factors in most large
quantity buyouts there are very few reasons not to accept it as a solution to an endemic disease that
affects seemingly exclusively

Relationship Between Relationships And Family Structures
Relationships can either be monogamous or non monogamous in nature and its definitions and
functions can vary. A monogamous relationship is traditionally characterised by two individuals who
have dependent children or also as a nuclear family. Monogamy is a hetero normative practice that
involves two individuals in a relationship; the couple is not engaged in extramarital intimacy. Nuclear
families also fall under this practice. Polyamory is a non monogamous practice that refers to multiple

underpins marriage in many Western and some non Western countries. Scholars have continued to
argue the success of monogamous relationships. Harville Hendrix (1990) explains that monogamy is a
healing practice. Partners in monogamous relationships go through many stages and struggles as a
committed couple. Through struggle, partners act as healers that help to work through each other s
suffering (Hendrix 1990). Hendrix (1990) believes individuals choose their partners to work through
the pain together and help them grow through life. Monogamous marriage is a spiritual path to
happiness and commitment between two individuals (Hendrix 1990). A committed relationship
requires monogamy, and Hendrix (1990) contends that healthy and spiritual commitments encourage
the sustainability of monogamous relationships. Although Hendrix (1990) contends that monogamy is
an effective practice, research has largely built a case around the consequences of monogamous
relationships.
Debates have circled around the experiences within nuclear families and monogamous relationships,
and Stelbourn (1999) proclaims it is a largely patriarchal practice. Stelbourn (1999) uses Engel s work
during the eighteenth century, to explain the still existent contemporary debate around the
consequences of monogamy. The work of Friedrich Engels (Stelbourn 1999) focused on the division
between mothers as housewives, and fathers as workers in nuclear families. Women were reduced in

Children Are At Home Learning Languages Essay
In different regions around the world, young children are at home learning languages that differ from
the prevailing language used in their extensive social world. When they arrive at school, these children
has a different precious resource; there mother tongue often referred to as L1. Typically, when
indigenous and minority language speaking students begin school, they are forced to learn a language
of the majority group in order to fit in socially and succeed in their academics. In a majority of
schools, these children are thought exclusively in the second language, which is most often English.
Although the L1 language is exceedingly common, a majority of school curriculums and programs
completely disregard and fail to support the minority language. Moreover, a majority of language
policies that inform these programs places no value on the knowledge and cultural backgrounds
associated with the linguistic diversity of the dialect children. Research as shown that persistent low
academic achievement and early school dropouts are common among these minority children and
partly stem from this dialect insensitive education policies. There is need to recognize that children
from diverse cultural backgrounds speak in different dialects and, therefore, there is a necessity to
enhance learning for such children while adhering and respecting their cultural diversity (Ball, 2010).
This research work thus tries to raise awareness on the need to maintain and promote cultural and

Investigating The Combined Heat Transfer
I. Abstract:
The main objectives of this experiment are to determine the combined heat transfer (Qr + Qc) from a
horizontal cylinder in natural convection over a wide range of power inputs and surface temperature.
Also to compare between convection and radiation heat transfer and between Hc and Hr. Moreover, to
determine the effect of forced convection and to show the relation between air velocity and surface
temperature for forced convection. And demonstrate that the local heat transfer coefficient varies
around the circumference of a horizontal cylinder when subjected to forced convection.
In Exp # 1, the voltage was continuously changing until the heater temperature (T10) reach the steady
state condition and at this time, T10 was recorded to get Qr and Qc. In Exp # 2, the voltage was kept
constant while the air velocity was changing continuously and T10 was recorded at the state condition
to determine Qf and Qr. In Exp # 3, the angular position and air velocity were changing continuously
and T10 was recorded at the state condition. The error percentage in Experiment #1 between Qc
experimental and Qc theoretical ranges is between 0.95% and 10.7% while the error in Qr
experimental and Qr theoretical ranges from 7.9% to 21.5%. Finally, the error percentage in
Experiment #2 between Qtot theoretical and Qtot experimental ranges from 5.6% to 6.22%, while the
error in Qt theoretical and Qin ranges from 50.5% to 80.5%.

Archaic Lore in The Horse Dealer s Daughter and The Dead Intro: Id texts and subject. Thesis: D.H.
Lawerence and James Joyce use archaic lore in their stories The Horse Dealers Daughter , and The

Storytakes place in English midlands, four sibling late 20 s sittng around family home. D. H.

Lawrence lets the audience know that the Dr. felt like her power, or chakra, was going in him and vice

she had some of his power in her hands. She asks does this mean you love me. Her ying is activating

your identity or new identity. An example of this is when Lawrence states the doctor goes upstairs
looking for clothing. He put some blue collar working man clothes on which is symbolic for becoming
a man. She changes into some elegant black dress and is looking beautiful. These both symbolizes a
new identity. Almost as if they had saved each other.
One of Lawrence s favorite myths is that of Persephone, Demeter, and Dis. In some of Lawrence s
stories involving this famous Greek myth, the main characters reflect, or even channel the characters
and events from the ancient myth itself, frequently giving the story a strange dark depth and a
ritualistic feel as if the modern characters themselves are unconsciously playing out ancient archetypes
within their own psyches. Persephone is daughter of Demeter (god of agriculture) Oone day she is
gathering flowers. Pluto (underworld) abducts her, keeping her from her mother. Her mother then

Taser Research Proposal Essay
Research Proposal
Tasers
Definition of the Research Problem/Question The research topic we have chosen to research is Tasers.
The use of Tasers has been a very controversial topic in the last few years. Reporters, doctors, and
human rights groups have all expressed concern that police officers will use a Taser in situations when
no weapon is required and concern has also been expressed over if the Taser is really a less lethal
option. No one claims the use of Tasers to be risk free but studies have found them comparatively safe.
We believe that people opposed to Tasers ignore a body of the reports showing the technology is safe
and effective. The research question we hope to answer is: Is the deployment of a Taser a safe and

The media has made this topic a very controversial topic. If there is a story of someone getting tased
anywhere in the United States for anything, including having a weapon in their hand pointed at a law
enforcement officer, it will be on the Ten o clock news top story. The media makes citizens question
law enforcement actions because they only show the part of the story that has the greatest shock
factor. The reporters play the part of the video that makes the point they do not show the complete
video and explain what happened. Another issue that is on the rise is citizens believing that some
suspects that die after being tased is the result of the Taser. This is another problem the media has
created by telling the initial story and flashing Taser death all over the screen and don t do a follow up
story explaining the other reason why the person died that was tased. There is usually a medical
condition involved with the death. If the public does not receive the whole story how can they make
an informed decision if Tasers are a safe and viable option to deadly force.
Relevance
In our research study we hope to show that the goal to Tasers it to provide law enforcement with
alternatives to deadly force in order to minimize harm to both community members and police. We
also want to show that no use of devices or techniques may be safe to everyone, but that we can t look

The New York City As A Major Obstacle For Receiving...
Introduction New York City is composed of some of the world s most unique and eccentric
neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find
Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the
northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French, Scandinavians,
and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has changed drastically in
which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American, Dominican, Ecuadorian, and
Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods have an abnormally large rate of
preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these districts are facing such high illness rates
could be because of language barriers, economic conditions, and lack of a primary care physician
monitoring health. Since the majority of individuals living in Bushwick and Williamsburg are of
foreign descent, it is only feasible to hypothesize that language barriers pose as a major obstacle for
receiving quality health care. Many of the residents may not know how to read and understand
English, therefore, leading to compromised delivery of care. Another justification for the residents of
Community Board 1 and 4 to not obtain quality care is because of economic conditions. Individuals
living in Bushwick are known to have a lower median household income when compared to Brooklyn
as a whole: the difference being $9,000

The Problem Of A Program Funding For Public Services
There is a crisis in California today creating a stalemate in decision making and solving of any
problems the state faces. There are so many problems and so many solutions, that no progress can be
made properly without conflicting interestests and opinions pausing any headway that might have
been made. Most people believe that California is stuck where it is because of rules and regulations
that are great on their own, but terrible when combined. The result of this crisis is a downwards spiral
towards lower funding for public services and a seemingly insurmountable problem with budgeting.
Some changes have been made to help the budget, but they still aren t enough due to the many
elements that cause this crisis to be so complicated. The element that causes a program funding to go
down is the fact that a two thirds majority is required for any increase in taxes to occur. This is with
every member, not just those that are present and voting. While in the past, this has not posed as great
of a problem, currenty the majority of the Republican Party are against any tax increases, creating a
deadlock where no tax can be increased due to no way to get a two thirds majority in a vote. The
problem with the lack of tax increase, though, is that the burden of the state budgeting crisis ends up
effecting lower income residents that rely on public services. In 2012, a Democratic supermajority of
seats were won, meaning they could finally raise taxes wihtout any Republican support.

significant qualities and differ from generation to generation. A change from my generation to the past
is how we talk and have new lingo in our conversations. Also, equality for women in the work place
and at home. My generation doesn t have much of a work ethic and is very lazy when it comes to jobs.
The variance in our conversations, the equality in work place, and the laziness of my generation are a
change from the past. In conversation between Gen Z and Gen X, there are some phrases past
generations might not comprehend. Ever since phones have been around, Gen Z have changed the
language. We like to shorten all our words for example; OMG instead of oh my god, is one of the most
commonly used sayings. Another phrase frequently used is LOL, which means Laugh out loud. There
are many more examples, all of which have been created by the phone and texting. Also, Gen Z tend
to communicate more by phone or computer then talking in person, whereas the Gen X would rather
speak in person and have that face to face conversation. Gen Z uses technology to avoid talking to
someone. Witnessed every day on college campus, a student will see a teacher or fellow student
walking towards them in the hall, the student quickly seizes their phone, looks down to be distracted,
and walks right past so they don t have to engage in a conversation. With technology that has enabled

A Survey Report On Malaysian Diaspora
Introduction
To better understand what media sources the Singaporean diaspora uses to find out about news back
home in Singapore, I conducted a survey amongst Singaporeans based overseas, namely in places
such as Australia, the United States, some countries in South East Asia and also in Europe. The
demographics used were age based, dispersed mainly among working class adults and university
students.
The survey resulted in a 40% readership of www.straitstimes.com, the online version of Singapore s
leading newspaper The Straits Times and a 27% readership of another website, which is also a
subsidiary of the Straits Times, called Stomp. Going from these numbers, one can say that the bulk of
Singaporeans overseas still rely heavily on the online version of The Straits Times for news back
home in Singapore. From here, I can conclude that the key media outlet utilised by Singaporeans
overseas would be the StraitsTimes.com. My survey also includes the purposes of these sites, namely
what Singaporeans use these sites for and how much whether or not they consider these sources to be
relevant.
In this essay, I intend to analyse the The Straits Times and its online counterpart,
www.straitstimes.com , as well as its other subsidiary STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print).
Given the premise that www.straitstimes.com is reflective of its parent, The Straits Times, it is
imperative that we analyse The Straits Times as a whole, taking into consideration that in the end the

The show falls under the genre of both comedy and drama. The character Benton Fraser (played by

Medical Marijuana And Medical Therapy
Medical marijuana refers to the use of cannabis as medical therapy in the palliative sense to treat
diseases or alleviate symptoms. This treatment modality has proven to be a highly debatable issue
within the medical field due to the use of this substance as an illicit drug. The National Youth Risk
Behavior Survey monitors priority health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death,
disability, and social problems among youth and adults in the United States (Center for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2012). The most recent survey conducted on ninth through twelfth grade
students in public and private schools throughout the United States indicated that in 2011, a mean of
39.9% of participants reported ever using marijuana one or more times during their lives (Center for
Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Although this substance has been most often used for
recreational purposes, recent studies have shown that an increasing number of people are fighting to
have legislation passed in order for the use medicinal marijuana to be made legal. The populations
most affected by such legislation include those positively affected by the use of medical marijuana,
patients suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses, and those who utilize the drug for other
reasons associated with recreation and personal pleasure. The issue highlights the beneficial aspect of
marijuana use detailing symptom management and improving overall quality of life; and conversely,

Career Within The Sports Management Field
After throughly researching careers within the Sports Management field, I believe I would be
interested in working as a Director of Player Personnel. The Director of Player Personnel is a
management position within a sports organization whose main job is to support the athletes on the
team (Berner). This specific position is extremely significant for all athletic teams in amateur, college,
and professional leagues. Getting a job within the sports field is highly competitive, but their are more
opportunities now than ever before. I have always wanted to work within sports because of my
passion for fitness and athletics. My major was first Fitness and Health Promotions before I
transferred to the University of Alabama, but I decided to change my major to public relations so I
could work within the business aspect of sports. Working in a fast paced environment with a great deal
of interaction between various other positions is the perfect career for me and public relations is
exactly that. Public relations is defined as a strategic communication process that builds mutually
beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics (PRSA). After researching various
sports related careers, the description for a Director of Player Personnel instantly grabbed my

Dear White People Sociology
After watching the film Dear White People, I was not entirely sure if I enjoyed the production or not.
At first, I was not a fan of the movie, but about midway through I started appreciating it more. I think
producer Justin Simien appropriately used satire in the film by almost ridiculing every cast member,
not just focusing on someone who was heterosexual, black, white, or what socioeconomic class they
came from. I am sure at different colleges and universities race relations exist. I personally have not
experienced any type of negative race conflict here, at The College of New Jersey. To get the most
obvious social identity portrayed in the film out of the way and perhaps the most critical to the
production, race. It mainly focused on black, white, and mixed race people. One character who I felt
personally portrayed the black stereotype the most was the man who was interested in producing the
television show, Helmut West. While he himself did not necessarily come off as a typical black male,
whatever that may be, he tried to push black female stereotypes on Colandrea, more commonly known
as Coco in the movie. To him, she was not ghetto enough for the role, and she tailored her personality
to be what he needed in order to get what she wanted. While watching Coco transform herself to be

Argumentative Essay On Learning And Learning
Children can learn about the world through reading material, whether that instruction is intended or
not by the author, and whether the instruction is overt or relatively hidden. From cautionary, moral
tales of old to modern problem novels and books for children about life issues, authors show and
explain the world to the next generation. Matilda grew up in a family, where they did not value
education or learning. While her parents went to work, she stayed home and was expected to watch
TV or do nothing. Instead, she walked to the library and read books everyday. She learned many
things from reading and begged her father if she could attend school like other kids her age. She read
about history, law and many other educational topics that she could be learning if she was in school.
Children are sponges for information around them. Children gather this information from a variety of
sources, such as family, peers, and experience. In Matilda s case, she learned the most from literature
and Miss Honey. Her parents did not encourage learning and her headmaster was cruel to all the
students, ...children can develop understanding of themselves and others through books (Feeney
Moravcik, 2005, p. 20). Her parents failed to help Matilda or her brother excel in school or the
learning process. Luckily, Matilda continued to learn through reading.

Compare And Contrast The Storm By Kate Chopin And Sexy
The storm by Kate Chopin and Sexy by Jhumpa Lahiri The Storm is short story written by Kate
Chopin. It is a story featuring a family living in Louisiana. The family consists of a husband, Bobinot,

are at a local store and Calixta is all alone home. As the storm starts, Alcee, Calixta s old boyfriend
gets stuck at her house because of the raging storm. In the middle of the storm, Alcee and Calixta
make out and have a sexual intercourse and as the storm stops, Alcee leaves while Bobinot and Bibi
arrive home. The story is about betrayal, affair, and the role of women in the society. Sexy is a short
story written by Jhumpa Lahiri. The story is about extramarital affairs and the meaning of the word

Dyeing Studies of Wool Fibers with Madder
In this study, the dyeing behavior of wool fabrics with madder has been studied. Also, the effect of
different mordants (potassium dichromate, stannous chloride, alum, ferrous sulphate, lime, copper (I,
II) sulphate, cobalt chloride, and nickel chloride) as well as three mordanting procedures namely pre ,
meta and post mordanting on color characteristics of the dyed samples has been investigated. The
adsorption isotherm of madder on wool fibers was found to follow Freundlich type of adsorption. The
addition of salt and acid (pH 4.5) to the dyebath resulted in an increase of adsorption. In relation to
mordanting tests, the use of different mordants and mordanting procedures gave various color
characteristics on dyed wool fabrics. The results showed that all the dyed samples, mordanted and
unmordanted, were in the first quadrant of CIEL*a*b* color space. Mordants such as potassium
dichromate, ferrous sulphate and copper (I, II) sulphate led to the darker and lower chromaticity
compared to unmordanted dyed sample while mordants stannous chloride, alum resulted in the lighter
and higher chromaticity values. Mordanting with the chlorides of cobalt and nickel showed the
minimal color difference (∆E) with the unmordanted dyed sample. The fastness properties indicated
that in general wash and light fastness of the mordanted samples were higher than the unmordanted
one.

Universal Health Care Reform
Health care is a very expensive issue here in the United Sates and the current system is not sustainable
at its current state. Republicans for the last 8 years have tried to replace the current system (ACA)
with a more cost effective one, but this has been a daunting task.
Tom Price was confirmed as the secretary of human and health services. The Trump administration
was able to finally elect one of the leading figures in the opposition of Obamacare. The political
landscape has changed a lot since this confirmation and the uncertainty of the repeal has led to the
possibility of more progressive ideas. One of those ideas that has emerged is universal health care as

In a CNN debate with Ted Cruz, Sanders brought up questions regarding the current system and
wondered why we continue to rely on premiums and why we continue to enrich insurers that are
unreliable. Although, Sanders is a representative of liberal and progressive ideas this idea of universal
health is becoming more mainstream with democratic and Republican voters. In a recent Pew poll, the
survey showed that 60 percent of respondents believed that the government should be responsible of
the coverage of all Americans. Other polls showed that low income Republicans have shown support
for universal health care and this comes as an opportunity for politicians in both parties. From a
Republican standpoint, this would complete the promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare and it
would also solve the problem of the disastrous exchange system. This idea may be too liberal for most
Republican politicians as it goes against party lines, but strong support from the democrats and their
constituents could alter some of the positions of Republican politicians.
Democrats have less of a political risk in embracing universal health care as it is in line with liberal
ideology. This is very important as democrats can run as challengers to the incumbent Republicans
and seek to unseat them under the premise of Medicare coverage for everyone. This would also put
pressure on Republicans to move further to the center of the political spectra as the fear of losing votes

  • 2. The Industrial Revolution and Imperialism Essay The concept of imperialism is one that has pervaded nearly every major society or empire throughout human history. It seems to be a natural consequence of societies growing in size, power, and knowledge. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries vast changes occurred in Western Europe (and soon spread elsewhere) that spurred a new round of imperialism the likes of which had not been seen before. The changes were the industrial revolution that was taking place. Countries were rapidly advancing to industrial societies producing much greater quantities of goods at much lower costs. The goods produced ranged everywhere from cotton textiles to military machinery, all of which would play important roles in rounds of imperialistic expansion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this situation occurred involving Britain and India where British merchants exported great quantities of cotton to England where it would be refined and made into end products for export. This same situation arose with nearly every other natural resource one could imagine. The world is abundant with natural resources all from different regions, and European nations saw it as their opportunity for the taking. Another very important result of the industrial revolution was the advancement of European weaponry. It was mentioned in a previous module for this course how something of an arms race began in Western Europe as the societies were separating into different empires and nations. That would continue with European weapons advancing far beyond what any other societies could match, there is even the example of a small number of British soldiers defeating thousands of African soldiers in a matter of hours due to the invention of the maxim gun. The evolution of European weaponry played several important roles in relation to imperialism. European weaponry first and foremost made it possible for those nations to dominate indigenous people to submit to their will in terms of trade. It even opened up new regions such as Japan that had previously only allowed very minor outside trade. With steamboats that could navigate upstream British soldiers were able to traverse up the Yangtze River and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Navigating The Csu Global Library Option #1: Navigating the CSU Global Library ProQuest and Business Source Complete (EBSCO) are the two databases that are being compared in this article. Initially ProQuest seems easiest to navigate and provides a wide range of topics. EBSCO was also chosen due to the focus on business related articles. Comparing these databases on a business related topic will prove which one has the best outcome. Searching, navigating, narrowing the scope and using the article tools are all important parts to identifying the right research. Badke (2014) states in reference to searching databases that if you want results that reflect what you are seeking in your research question, then use such terminology that comes out of your research question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When reviewing the EBSCO help tools it explains that even in a basic search there are still search options. Help tools similarly explain, options for selecting phrases, choosing AND/OR, and even turn on a smart text search, which leverages technology to conduct the best results. Without limiting the search a basic search of mobile banking turns up 11,081 items. This is a much smaller pool than what ProQuest brought up, however, EBSCO seems to be more business focused and also lists, newspapers, magazines, trade publications and videos. Narrowing the Scope of the Search Results Advanced search seems like the way to go when narrowing down the scope of the research. As you start typing it provides the user with word suggestions. While typing mobile banking it suggested consumer and mobile banking and mobile banking adoption. There are also AND, OR and NOT options. Selections for full text, peer reviewed and scholarly journals are also available. There is even an option to select all kinds of publication dates. Using suggested topics, plus using the AND feature (consumer adoption of internet banking) AND (mobile banking adoption) within the past three years seems like the best bet. The advanced search only narrowed down the results to 710 articles. 710 articles, is still too many and needs to be narrowed down even more. The publication chart on the side showed the majority of the articles were published in 2015 and 2016. Knowing that technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Movie Cleo From 5 , Directed By Agnes... Cléo from 5 to 7, directed by Agnes Varda, is a film about one woman s struggle to come to terms with the possibility of her potential illness. Not only is Cléo struggling with her physical health, but she is also dealing with her beauty and the consequences of being an attractive woman in the modern world of the 1960s. When examined through the lens of Laura Mulvey s Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema theory, another aspect of the film comes to light. The film seems to objectify Cléo and thus trivialize her struggles with others perceptions of her throughout the film by adhering to the construct of the male gaze. Although Cléo from 5 to 7 appears to play into the construct of the male gaze through the repeated objectification of Cléo, it actually subverts this idea and instead confronts the viewer, and the notion of women as passive objects to be viewed. Laura Mulvey s theory is built on the concept of there being pleasure in looking. This manifests itself in two ways. The first is scopophilia, in which looking itself is a source of pleasure (Mulvey, p. 713). This sort of looking is active looking, and makes whatever is being looked at passive, receiving the gaze. The second way that this visual pleasure manifests itself is in its narcissistic form, which is to derive pleasure through the act of identification with the image seen. The image seen is a more perfect version of the spectator, making it pleasurable for the spectator to identify with them, to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Estj Assignment Extraverted, sensing, thinking, judging: the supervisor within the realm of personalities. As an ESTJ, I thrive on order and continuity (Jung). I tend to stick with the idea of tradition and seek the history. As an Extrovert, I receive energy from the people that surround me and promote work ethic. Not someone to show emotion, I gain through logical and practical terms. I find myself in situations that require thought, planning, or organization. In some cases, I do tend to stray away from the results that I was given through the personality test. On my personality test, I was scored as a 56% extrovert. An extrovert gains and focuses energy on the people around them. I believe most of my energy comes from the people that surround me, including friends and family. I would rather be out in public than alone all the time. On a Friday night, you can find me with friends. Being an extrovert is the reason I am involved in several extracurricular activities. I am able to use the gifts from God, such as leadership and communication skills, when I am active in public. At a Student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I sometimes could be labeled as an intuitive person because I can sometimes be seen worrying about the future. This does not happen often, but if it does it is usually about a smaller planned event and not the entire future. I am someone who would rather stay in reality and know about the past. Facts are an important key to a story or life in general. I enjoy to hear the history of a situation, to be able to see if I am able to build on the situation. During a meeting, I would rather hear about the past first then try to come up with new ideas that may not work. I also am an observer in situations. When walking into a room of 100 people or a group of five friends, I am always observing for details. It may not be important at the time, but I would rather notice and observe details as soon as I enter a new surrounding or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. American Spirits Were Exceptionally High At The End Of The... American spirits were exceptionally high at the end of the War of 1812 which brought about a defeat of the British once again. In the years that followed the War, a sense of national unity materialized throughout the country as a One Party System grew out of James Monroe s presidency with the disappearance of the Federalists. The Columbian Centinel proclaimed that this time period after the War of 1812 was an Era of Good Feelings , a phrase applied to Monroe s presidency ever since. But contradictory to this label, this time period in American history was actually turbulent, for sectionalism propagated and a nationwide panic heightened. Therefore, with emerging sectionalism in subsequent events that followed the War of 1812, the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his presidency, Monroe supported the American System in which the government supported economic growth and protective measures for domestic manufacturers from foreign competition. Unfortunately, not everyone favored the American System. In the South especially, Southerners opposed such a protective tariff for it only supported Northern manufactures, while hurting the Southern economy at the same time. The South, primarily agricultural with a large exporting economy, had to import all of its goods having to pay up to ⅓ it s price in tax in order to comply with the American System. John Randolph, a Southerner, expressed his grievances to Congress hoping to alleviate the struggles of the South by saying, no one interest in the country should be sacrificed by the management of taxation to another... the agriculturalists bear the whole front of the war and taxation (Document A). In saying this Randolph not only questioned Congress s intentions of collecting revenue and favoring the North, but also its job to regulate commerce, not taxes. The American System clearly drove a wedge between Northern and Southern interests. The institution of chartering a Second National Bank also stimulated many controversies. Once again, the Bank, an element of the American System created to strengthen national currency, placed commercial interests of the North over farmers and agriculturalists of the South. In the ... • 7. The Creation And Collapse Of Unified German Empire The period of one hundred years spanning from the mid nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century was one hundred years of monumental change. It saw the end of American slavery, the creation and collapse of unified German Empire, the creation of Eastern European nation states that emerged from the wreckage of the Austro Hungarian Empire only to fall to the Soviet Union within a few decades, two world wars, the invention of cars and their erasure of horses from everyday transportation, the development of nuclear weapons, and the novel concept of photographs become televisions in the home of the average American family. This period of radical change was made possible by men who saw the possibility of changing the world and perused it. Regimes fell, borders were redrawn, and from the ranks of revolutionaries the leaders who would create new orders rose. Those with innovative ideas, creativity, and the right combination of skills and resources created the material goods that shaped these crucial years. But as the world progressed at an alarming rate, there were those who wished to preserve the traditions and values of the past. This desire existed even among the same minds who brought about the revolutions of the era, and they found themselves struggling to find the middle ground between these two different objectives. Among them were American automobile manufacturer Henry Ford, Mexican President Profirio Diaz, and the Turkish President Mustafa Kamal. While the latter two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Theory Of Attachment Theory Essay B1/A2/A*1 John Bowlby s attachment theory is a positive aspect to this transition as the child are likely to gain secure attachments with their key worker which enables them to work closely with each other, this then allows the child to be more comfortable with any support they receive throughout the process, however the child may become too attached to their key worker and may face issues later when the times comes for them to separate therefore it is important for children to spend time with other members of staff. Children can be attached to other practitioners other than their key worker so it is important for both to communicate to ensure that the key worker knows everything about the child and keep on track with any paperwork they have to complete about the child and keep track of the child s progress and development. I think that Bowlby attachment theory is important within this transition as the child going into care needs a secure attachment to someone as the attachment to their parents will be disrupted and the child needs someone for support especially a child of this age. The child can make an attachment to their foster carer however this also may be difficult if the child is in temporary foster care and are removed from care, this may cause the child distress as all the attachments they have made are being disrupted. There are many criticism of Bowlby s theory, one of these are that Bowlby believed that Bowlby suggested that a child would initially form only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early childhood education has been the key focus on improving test scores. According to the politics, test scores must meet above average levels in order for students to become college and career ready. • 13. Feminine Mystique Analysis In Friedan s The Feminine Mystique , she addresses the unspoken problem of women, especially housewives, in the 1950 s and 60 s. Women were taught to be a mother and wife and to embrace their femininity. They were also taught to reject academia and pity the neurotic, unfeminine, unhappy women who wanted to be poets, physicists, or presidents. These women were consuming what was given to them in pop culture. They dyed their hair blonde and ate chalk to lose weight. The dream for women during this time was to be the perfect suburban housewife, which included a good marriage, four children, and nice house in the suburbs. Friedan states that if a woman had a problem, she knew something was wrong with either herself or her marriage. Since no one else discussed their dissatisfaction with their wifely duties, the women who felt this believed they were the only one in this situation and something must be wrong with them. Friedan calls this the problem that has no name because there was a mass number of women feeling this way, but no one could put a name to this condition. Women who had this problem described it as feeling empty and incomplete, as if they didn t exist. Although many women were feeling this way, the media still portrayed women as happy housewives, further reinforcing that no other women were feeling that way. Friedan goes on to say that we can no longer ignore this issue and lists the reasons people had to explain this phenomenon, such as the loss of femininity, too much education, or the demands of domesticity. She refutes these points, and at the end, Friedan says there is more behind the problem that has no name and, again, we can no longer ignore it. In the Barbara Smith reading, she starts out by talking about figuring out a name for her book Home Girls , and how many black people who are threatened by feminism argue that you have left the race and are no longer a part of the black community if you are a feminist. Smith states that black feminism is a natural part of the black experience despite the separation it appears to have from the black community. The concepts are highlighted in his vignettes: Victory Column , The Telephone , and Butterfly Hunt . Benjamin attempts to imbue his writing with a different structure of time from what was conventional. He perceives history as a section of moments, and each moment is an integral whole in its own right, making it equal to the present (Knights). Benjamin also notes that the ignoring of the past and the focus on the progression of the future causes harmful effects to nature (Knights). Even though Benjamin attributes a sense of delight to his image of the Victory Column , there is also a contrasting affect of death that permeates through the vignette. There is a portico around the Victory Column, but it is when Benjamin asserts that this portico was itself the inferno a sense of death becomes apparent. It is evident that Benjamin wants to spotlight the darkness around the column. It seems that Benjamin is using this past image to illustrate a sense of responsibility for the innocently suffered of past generations. Benjamin is placing a redemptive quality to the death of the past individuals. There is a sense of redemption embedded in his past. Benjamin wants it visible that the Victory is surrounded by death, which is analogous of his present situation. Sigmund Freud agrees with Benjamin s reluctance on war as he states war Broke out, and it brought disillusion (Freud 172) and that A future war, because of such great advances in the means of destruction, would mean the extermination of one or perhaps both adversaries. (Freud 231). If Germany in Benjamin s present is to obtain a Victory in its oppressive endeavor, it is through mass death, which is proven through the past. There is usually a medical condition involved with the death. If the public does not receive the whole story how can they make an informed decision if Tasers are a safe and viable option to deadly force. Relevance In our research study we hope to show that the goal to Tasers it to provide law enforcement with alternatives to deadly force in order to minimize harm to both community members and police. We also want to show that no use of devices or techniques may be safe to everyone, but that we can t look just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The New York City As A Major Obstacle For Receiving... Introduction New York City is composed of some of the world s most unique and eccentric neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French, Scandinavians, and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has changed drastically in which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American, Dominican, Ecuadorian, and Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods have an abnormally large rate of preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these districts are facing such high illness rates could be because of language barriers, economic conditions, and lack of a primary care physician monitoring health. Since the majority of individuals living in Bushwick and Williamsburg are of foreign descent, it is only feasible to hypothesize that language barriers pose as a major obstacle for receiving quality health care. Many of the residents may not know how to read and understand English, therefore, leading to compromised delivery of care. Another justification for the residents of Community Board 1 and 4 to not obtain quality care is because of economic conditions. Individuals living in Bushwick are known to have a lower median household income when compared to Brooklyn as a whole: the difference being $9,000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. The Problem Of A Program Funding For Public Services There is a crisis in California today creating a stalemate in decision making and solving of any problems the state faces. There are so many problems and so many solutions, that no progress can be made properly without conflicting interestests and opinions pausing any headway that might have been made. Most people believe that California is stuck where it is because of rules and regulations that are great on their own, but terrible when combined. The result of this crisis is a downwards spiral towards lower funding for public services and a seemingly insurmountable problem with budgeting. Some changes have been made to help the budget, but they still aren t enough due to the many elements that cause this crisis to be so complicated. The element that causes a program funding to go down is the fact that a two thirds majority is required for any increase in taxes to occur. This is with every member, not just those that are present and voting. While in the past, this has not posed as great of a problem, currenty the majority of the Republican Party are against any tax increases, creating a deadlock where no tax can be increased due to no way to get a two thirds majority in a vote. The problem with the lack of tax increase, though, is that the burden of the state budgeting crisis ends up effecting lower income residents that rely on public services. In 2012, a Democratic supermajority of seats were won, meaning they could finally raise taxes wihtout any Republican support. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A change from my generation to the past is how we talk and have new lingo in our conversations. Also, equality for women in the work place and at home. My generation doesn t have much of a work ethic and is very lazy when it comes to jobs. The variance in our conversations, the equality in work place, and the laziness of my generation are a change from the past. In conversation between Gen Z and Gen X, there are some phrases past generations might not comprehend. Ever since phones have been around, Gen Z have changed the language. We like to shorten all our words for example; OMG instead of oh my god, is one of the most commonly used sayings. Another phrase frequently used is LOL, which means Laugh out loud. There are many more examples, all of which have been created by the phone and texting. Also, Gen Z tend to communicate more by phone or computer then talking in person, whereas the Gen X would rather speak in person and have that face to face conversation. Gen Z uses technology to avoid talking to someone. Witnessed every day on college campus, a student will see a teacher or fellow student walking towards them in the hall, the student quickly seizes their phone, looks down to be distracted, and walks right past so they don t have to engage in a conversation. • 30. A Survey Report On Malaysian Diaspora Introduction To better understand what media sources the Singaporean diaspora uses to find out about news back home in Singapore, I conducted a survey amongst Singaporeans based overseas, namely in places such as Australia, the United States, some countries in South East Asia and also in Europe. The demographics used were age based, dispersed mainly among working class adults and university students. The survey resulted in a 40% readership of www.straitstimes.com, the online version of Singapore s leading newspaper The Straits Times and a 27% readership of another website, which is also a subsidiary of the Straits Times, called Stomp. Going from these numbers, one can say that the bulk of Singaporeans overseas still rely heavily on the online version of The Straits Times for news back home in Singapore. From here, I can conclude that the key media outlet utilised by Singaporeans overseas would be the StraitsTimes.com. My survey also includes the purposes of these sites, namely what Singaporeans use these sites for and how much whether or not they consider these sources to be relevant. In this essay, I intend to analyse the The Straits Times and its online counterpart, www.straitstimes.com , as well as its other subsidiary STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print). Given the premise that www.straitstimes.com is reflective of its parent, The Straits Times, it is imperative that we analyse The Straits Times as a whole, taking into consideration that in the end the popular media ... This treatment modality has proven to be a highly debatable issue within the medical field due to the use of this substance as an illicit drug. The National Youth Risk Behavior Survey monitors priority health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disability, and social problems among youth and adults in the United States (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). The most recent survey conducted on ninth through twelfth grade students in public and private schools throughout the United States indicated that in 2011, a mean of 39.9% of participants reported ever using marijuana one or more times during their lives (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012). Although this substance has been most often used for recreational purposes, recent studies have shown that an increasing number of people are fighting to have legislation passed in order for the use medicinal marijuana to be made legal. The populations most affected by such legislation include those positively affected by the use of medical marijuana, patients suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses, and those who utilize the drug for other reasons associated with recreation and personal pleasure. This specific position is extremely significant for all athletic teams in amateur, college, and professional leagues. Getting a job within the sports field is highly competitive, but their are more opportunities now than ever before. My major was first Fitness and Health Promotions before I transferred to the University of Alabama, but I decided to change my major to public relations so I could work within the business aspect of sports. Working in a fast paced environment with a great deal of interaction between various other positions is the perfect career for me and public relations is exactly that. Public relations is defined as a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics (PRSA). • 34. Dear White People Sociology After watching the film Dear White People, I was not entirely sure if I enjoyed the production or not. At first, I was not a fan of the movie, but about midway through I started appreciating it more. I think producer Justin Simien appropriately used satire in the film by almost ridiculing every cast member, not just focusing on someone who was heterosexual, black, white, or what socioeconomic class they came from. I am sure at different colleges and universities race relations exist. I personally have not experienced any type of negative race conflict here, at The College of New Jersey. To get the most obvious social identity portrayed in the film out of the way and perhaps the most critical to the production, race. It mainly focused on black, white, and mixed race people. One character who I felt personally portrayed the black stereotype the most was the man who was interested in producing the television show, Helmut West. While he himself did not necessarily come off as a typical black male, whatever that may be, he tried to push black female stereotypes on Colandrea, more commonly known as Coco in the movie. To him, she was not ghetto enough for the role, and she tailored her personality to be what he needed in order to get what she wanted. While watching Coco transform herself to be what West ... • 35. Argumentative Essay On Learning And Learning Children can learn about the world through reading material, whether that instruction is intended or not by the author, and whether the instruction is overt or relatively hidden. From cautionary, moral tales of old to modern problem novels and books for children about life issues, authors show and explain the world to the next generation. Matilda grew up in a family, where they did not value education or learning. While her parents went to work, she stayed home and was expected to watch TV or do nothing. Instead, she walked to the library and read books everyday. She learned many things from reading and begged her father if she could attend school like other kids her age. She read about history, law and many other educational topics that she could be learning if she was in school. Children are sponges for information around them. Children gather this information from a variety of sources, such as family, peers, and experience. In Matilda s case, she learned the most from literature and Miss Honey. Her parents did not encourage learning and her headmaster was cruel to all the students, ...children can develop understanding of themselves and others through books (Feeney Moravcik, 2005, p. 20). • 38. Dyeing Studies of Wool Fibers with Madder In this study, the dyeing behavior of wool fabrics with madder has been studied. Also, the effect of different mordants (potassium dichromate, stannous chloride, alum, ferrous sulphate, lime, copper (I, II) sulphate, cobalt chloride, and nickel chloride) as well as three mordanting procedures namely pre , meta and post mordanting on color characteristics of the dyed samples has been investigated. The adsorption isotherm of madder on wool fibers was found to follow Freundlich type of adsorption. The addition of salt and acid (pH 4.5) to the dyebath resulted in an increase of adsorption. In relation to mordanting tests, the use of different mordants and mordanting procedures gave various color characteristics on dyed wool fabrics. The results showed that all the dyed samples, mordanted and unmordanted, were in the first quadrant of CIEL*a*b* color space. Mordants such as potassium dichromate, ferrous sulphate and copper (I, II) sulphate led to the darker and lower chromaticity compared to unmordanted dyed sample while mordants stannous chloride, alum resulted in the lighter and higher chromaticity values. Mordanting with the chlorides of cobalt and nickel showed the minimal color difference (∆E) with the unmordanted dyed sample. The fastness properties indicated that in general wash and light fastness of the mordanted samples were higher than the unmordanted one. In a CNN debate with Ted Cruz, Sanders brought up questions regarding the current system and wondered why we continue to rely on premiums and why we continue to enrich insurers that are unreliable. Although, Sanders is a representative of liberal and progressive ideas this idea of universal health is becoming more mainstream with democratic and Republican voters. In a recent Pew poll, the survey showed that 60 percent of respondents believed that the government should be responsible of the coverage of all Americans. Other polls showed that low income Republicans have shown support for universal health care and this comes as an opportunity for politicians in both parties. From a Republican standpoint, this would complete the promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare and it would also solve the problem of the disastrous exchange system. This idea may be too liberal for most Republican politicians as it goes against party lines, but strong support from the democrats and their constituents could alter some of the positions of Republican politicians. Democrats have less of a political risk in embracing universal health care as it is in line with liberal ideology. This is very important as democrats can run as challengers to the incumbent Republicans and seek to unseat them under the premise of Medicare coverage for everyone.
