The Problem With Employee Safety Essay
Employers spend thousands of dollars to ensure workplace safety. However when an accident occurs,
and company production and sales are at stake, many overlook operational best practices in business
ethics. Today, companies are greatly impacted by societies evolvultion toward a good place for
everyone diverse in culture, religion, and socioeconomic background. This trajectory drives social
changes, activists, and theorists who believe attaining the good is worth pursuing and has no
boundaries. As Aristotle noted, the end goals of political and individual well being are justice and
happiness (Collins 2015). In examining the Trouble in the Truss Construction Shop case study, a
pragmatic approach was used to ethically formulate possible remedies to the company s issue with
employee safety. Explanation of the problem and viewpoints One week ago, John Craftsman, a
company employee severely injured his hand while pushing a piece of wood through a table saw
during his shift at the Truss Construction Shop. Mr. Craftsman is the third accident in the current
quarter that has workers in the shop upset and claiming unsafe working conditions. The workers have
reported to OSHA and the local newspaper that the company has failed to accept responsibility for
employee safety. The quarrel over who is the blame for the accident has caused unwanted publicity
and could potentially jeopardize business sales. A thorough examination of the employee and
company s viewpoints were

The City Of Glass Language Analysis
Throughout the class we have developed a clear understanding of the concise list of themes and
structures typically found in metaphysical detective stories. Merivale and Sweeney in their
introduction to Detecting Texts offer a clear and concise list of themes and structures characteristic of
the metaphysical detective story. They are: 1. the defeated sleuth, whether he be an armchair detective
or a private eye; 2. the world, city, or text as labyrinth; 3. the purloined letter, embedded text, mise en
abyme, textual constraint, or text as object; 4. the ambiguity, ubiquity, eerie meaningfulness, or sheer
meaninglessness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The detective fails to solve the crime, but also confronts insoluble mysteries of interpretation and
identity. In these types of mysteries, detectives don t believe in coincidences and believe every little
thing has potential meaning to solving the case. Anything may be connected to anything else if the
detective, and the reader, chooses. Opposite of traditional, straightforward detective stories, the
metaphysical detective stories find a complex and deceptive mystery where the detective becomes
intertwined in a very complex case. The detectives in metaphysical detective stories lose their stable
position within their world. They often identify themselves with the object of their pursuit, almost to
the point of giving up their own identity as in Auster s City of Glass and suggested by Poe in, Man of
the Crowd. For example, Edgar Allan Poe s The Man of the Crowd features a character that decides to
follow a man because he thinks the man has a horrible secret. His quest to find the man through the
labyrinth of the city streets is unsuccessful. Leaving the man, narrator, and the reader without a
permanent ending, left to try and solve the case and predict the

Cataract Term Papers
What is Cataract? Cataract is known as a build up of protein clouding the eye lens which distorts or
blocks the light entering the eye. When new lens cells form on the outside of the lens, all older cells
are compacted into the center of the lens which therefore causes Cataract. Cataract can be partial or
complete, stationary or progressive, hard or soft. There are 3 types of cataract known as Nuclear
Sclerosis, Cortical Cataracts, Posterior Subcapsular cataracts. But the most common type of cataract is
Nuclear sclerosis. Which involves in the central part of the lens. Sclerotic is due to the condensation of
the lens nucleus which deposition of brown pigment within the lens. Cataract can be first presenting

may reduce your risk. A 10 year study health professional has shown that higher dietary intake of
Vitamin E, Carotenoids Lutein and Zeaxanthin supplements and food were associated with
significantly a decreased risk of cataract. For instance Vitamin E include sunflower seeds, almonds

Postpartum Mothers
One of the biggest decisions for a new mom is whether or not she will breast feed her newborn. This
decision will not only impact the mother but it will also have many great affects on the baby. In the
media we only see advertisements about formula which costs more money and is artificial. Why is it
that the most natural source of food for our baby s does not have the same kind of attention, if not
more? Nurses need to help spread the awareness of the major differences between formula and
breastfeeding to help higher the rates of breastfeeding, The purpose of this paper is to discuss how
nurses can help to promote healthy breastfeeding to postpartum moms through three main roles which
are, providing research that confirms the benefits of breastfeeding, ... Show more content on

Mothers who are thinking of breastfeeding may feel that they are being judged when they feed their
baby in public because some people think that it is not appropriate for mothers to breastfeed in public.
According to Yimyam and Hanpa (2013), In order to promote breastfeeding practices among
employed mothers, workplace interventions must be designed using multiple levels of influence
including employee, employer and workplace. In order for a new mom to feel comfortable
breastfeeding, she needs to feel comfortable everywhere she goes especially her workplace. The
employers should allow the breastfeeding employee to take breaks when needing to pump and should
provide a fridge so they can store the milk somewhere safe. The workplace should also have
somewhere clean and private for the woman to go to pump her milk. Also if the employer makes it
known to the whole company that they support having breastfeeding zones then all of the other
employees will be more accepting to it. This will allow the breastfeeding employee to feel more
comfortable and will most likely allow her to breastfeed longer. Changing how the workplace views
breastfeeding will help postpartum mothers to breastfeed longer and promote others to choose

The Culture Of The Italian Culture
The Description The cultural group I decided to gain more insight on through this experience was the
Italian culture. Explain history and describe! The immersion experiences in which I participated were
great opportunities to learn about the culture in more depth. The first experience I was able to attend
was on June 13, 2015. In downtown Indianapolis Indiana, I had the opportunity to attend the Italian
Culture Festival. Organized each year by the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, this festival was full of
music, cultural food, and I was lucky enough to experience a traditional Italian religious procession
and Mass (Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2015). The festival was packed with people from the city
and from the Italian culture. I had never experienced a festival such as the one held in Indianapolis.
Being from the east coast and not of the Italian culture, the festival was a refreshing yet,
uncomfortable experience at times. I observed a traditional dance, the tarantella and those around the
area all seemed to know most of the steps or the words to some of the songs in the set they played.
The locals tried to get me to dance along but, I could not keep up with them on the fly. The tarantella
is one of the most famous of Italian dances and performers dance quickly to an upbeat song (Holy
Rosary Catholic Church, 2015). It is said that the performers sweat out the poison of a deadly tarantula
and the dance could last for hours and could be religious in nature to some.

Human Resource Management in Business Context
Performance bonuses offer a win win gain to both organisations and employees. Discuss, making
reference to both theory and case examples
Introduction
Is performance related pay (PRP) really a motivator for employees and is it an effective way for
organisations to gain and retain high performing staff. This is questionable especially as organisations
differ in size, organisational culture (therefore differing needs), the ability and/or resources to manage
an effective process to support PRP. This study will explore whether performance bonuses offer a win
win for both the organisation and the employees, using primarily the public sector, with reference to
the private sector.

Intangible services are much harder to quantify.
Performance Management Cycle
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are formed as part of the performance and appraisal process to
measure the output of an individual. The performance appraisal allows a comparison to be made of the
actual performance against expected performance (KPIs), which is linked to feedback and whether the
individual has warranted a reward.
However, there are many potential problems with the performance appraisal system. The process can
become a bureaucratic process with managers seeing it as a tick box exercise to be completed once a
year. There could be a lack of understanding of the objectives by the employee, or the organisation
may not have a clear strategy and furthermore the process is subjective and open to human bias. It is
also very difficult to quantify individual performance such as intangible elements, as mentioned
earlier. So it could be argued that the process is not very transparent.
To overcome this, Beer et al. introduced the Harvard Model (Gilmore. S, 2009, p.9) which takes into
account a wider range of stakeholders interests to provide an input into the appraisal process which
allows the reduction of a bias opinion of just one person. It is stated as reduction, as the process is still
subjective and open to a range of perceptual errors although

After the Civil War and during the Progressive Era there were the group of reformers that changed the
landscape the United States. These reformers were mainly comprised of men and women from the
large northern cities and rural religious communities of Wisconsin (Schultz, 2013). The industrial age
created enormous amounts of wealth, but people were living in the worst conditions and working
longer hours than ever before. The Social Gospel movement sought to improve the working
conditions, restrict the child labor laws and fight for social justice (Fales, 2013). This methodology
was directly against what the Industrialist believed. Which was a Darwinist attitude of the survival of
the fittest. The next influential reformer group that had a

Hernan Cortes Essay
Hernan Cortes
Myths are hangups from way back :[1] false or highly inaccurate beliefs that are taken at face value.
One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful grip on the minds of many, and contributed to
feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of pure or mixed descendants of Native Americans
in the region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the Aztec Empire by
HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. This paper attempts to shatter one of
these myths; namely, that Cortes was an extraordinarily brave and intelligent individual who
accomplished an almost miraculous feat. It will do so by making use of the twin concepts of virtu and
fortuna.

Both decisions were based on his ignorance of the actual power of the Triple Alliance and the
confederation of Tlaxcallan.[7]
Cortes underestimated these two because of his early experiences in Mesoamerica. Although they
initially tried to avoid confrontations with the native communities, the Spaniards had to engage in
several battles against a coalition of Maya armies near Potonchan (located in the present day state of
Tabasco). However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons and
military tactics.
The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when Cortes
arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted in favor of a strategy of deterrence rather than
war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him with a series of
lavish gifts that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8] However, the strategy
backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts and interpreted them as a sign
of weakness. Moreover, the great quantity of gold given to the Spaniards made them all the more
determined to reach Tenochtitlan.

Eliezer Wiesel, a Jewish boy during the Holocaust, survived more in that time period than most should

camps. Not only that, but he did it with his father, his support throughout the book. Eliezer had his
will to survive that kept him alive, his father that was his crutch, and his hope that everyone else was
grasping onto and losing. Night shows the true strength of Eliezer Wiesel and his indomitable strength

The Pros and Cons of Open Source Essay
Open Source: Good and Bad
Introduction:
In the following paper I will be discussing the use of open source software as part of a larger project.
Example uses of this include incorporating existing publicly available source code within another
piece of software. Because the term open source has such broad implications, I will attempt to explain
it within the context of this paper. Open source code comes with many different licenses such as GPL,
BSD, and MIT. I will describe the most popular licensing options and how they differ. Many
companies believe open source software projects have an immense lack of accountability; this is
simply untrue. Lastly, open source software has recently received an abundance of attention in the
media because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering most of these are written by teams of lawyers and span multiple pages, this comes as no
surprise. While complicated at first, they really are not that bad. It is important to keep in mind that
their main intent is to protect the rights of the original author, not to impede your use of the author s
code.
Licensing Options:
The most popular license is known as the General Public License (GPL for short.) This license places
the software into the public domain with some restrictions. Additionally, all improvements or derived
code must also be placed under the GPL. If you are planning on releasing software based in part on
code obtained under the GPL, you must provide the source code for your version. You may charge a
fee for this, but people are still allowed to buy a copy and redistribute it for free. Note that if you are
building software for private use, you do not have to redistribute this private code. Using the
aforementioned example, if you were to use a piece of code from Gaim in your program, you must
release your whole project under the GPL if you wish to make your project publicly available.
Another very popular license is the MIT license. This is a very simple license that in essence states
that you can do whatever you want with this code. You may include MIT licensed code into a
commercial project as well.

Flume Drop Essay
Harley Edward Streten, aka Flume, is an Australian DJ and record producer. There isn t anything
special about him appearance wise unlike other DJs, such as Marshmello or deadmau5, who have a
distinct look. Flume usually sports the generic frat boy uniform consisting of chubbies, a button down,
and boat shoes. His music, however, is unmistakeable. His debut studio self titled album, Flume, was
released on November 9th, 2012 and introduced the world to what is now known as the Flume drop .
According to HP Cheung of Hypebeast, the Flume drop can be best described as heavily compressed,
shimmery, oscillating, side chained, pitch bending, white noise integrated wall of sound. His most
popular songs, Holdin on , a remix of Lorde s Tennis Court and Disclosure s You Me are the best
examples of the Flume drop. There is more to his music other than his recognizable drop. When asked

many different cultures. Music has historical lyrics, political meanings, and emotional support for the
people who ask for it or need it. The ancient hawaiians used musicians as historians and their history

song Renegades Of Funk is a song by Rage Against the Machine which surprisingly talks about
historical and scientific things. The song sounds like a song that is just trying to get people up and to

Tennis Is On The Right Track By Giving Equal Prize Money
People pretend it doesn t exist they deny that after all these years racism isn t happening but it is still
happening and very much alive. Tennis prides itself on being innovators. People think tennis is on the
right track by giving equal prize money to both male and females and giving both genders equal
opportunity in television and media coverage but the fact remains that tennis wouldn t fully be there
until they take that one step and drop the racism. This may seem like an impossible task but with lots
of joint effort with the general public, fans and the people involved in the sport racism can be
decreased. Tennis is a predominantly white sport and with the success of the Williams sister s barriers
have begun to dissolve but it s still an issue that needs fixing.
Tennis has a long standing history that like many other sports has been around for a long time. There
is thin evidence to suggest that tennis has been around for thousands of years suggesting that the
Egyptians, Greeks and Romans had played it (Barzum). However, for many tennis is known to have
really begun in London in 1874 Major Walter C. Wingfield patented the game of tennis (Barzum).
That same year saw the tournament at Wimbledon be played for the first time but at this time it was
only men that were allowed to participate. Ten years later in 1884 women were finally able to
participate at Wimbledon (Barzum). Tennis 100 percent a white mans sport until 1968 the beginning

How Does Shakespeare Create Tension In Hamlet
The notion of tension is depicted as a constant concept through Shakespeare s 1599 tragedy, Hamlet,
illustrating the changing values of the Elizabethan context. As a product of the early modern period, it
reflects the anxiety between feudal absolutism and the emerging challenge of humanism, additionally,
an emphasis on reason and logic supposed to superstition and passion. The composer draws attention

This tone of confusion foregrounds the pervading uncertainty, ambiguity and scepticism the characters
encounter in the political turmoil of Denmark. This beginning of the play reflects the anxieties of the
late Elizabethan age wherein monarchical succession was uncertain, and competing political
ideologies created an environment of suspicion. The mood of uncertainty within the text, emphasized
through Hamlet s riddling letter to Ophelia, in which he alludes to some of the central scientific
arguments of the day , : Doubt thou the stars are fire, doubt that the sun doth move, doubt truth to be a
liar, but never doubt I love . These poetic images serve to illustrate, through inversion, that indeed
those ideas most firmly believed in medieval Europe had in fact been exposed as inaccurate scientific
truths. This challenges audiences to recognise. Both within the play and the context, that assumed
values were no longer reliable. The continuing evocation of a climate of uncertainty and scepticism
within the narrative ironically reinforced through Hamlet s own decision to adopt an antic disposition ,
and his deliberate action to deceive others serves to reinforce the audience s recognition of the
uncertainty of characters. His deliberate manipulation of uncertainty in others acts to amplify the
mood of scepticism within the play ironically

Janet s Case For Life Insurance
Janet applied for life insurance on February 10, 2003. The amount her policy would pay out upon her
death would be $250,000. On September 1, 2005 Janet was sadly murdered which caused the life
insurance company to pay out the beneficiary who in our case is Janet s husband, Craig. Although the
contract should have been paid out in full upon Janet s death, the insurance company is refusing to pay
out the policy. When Janet applied for life insurance in 2003 she when through an extensive
application form which is typical for all life insurance contracts. On this form she was asked about her
health specifically if she had been operated on or been hospitalized in the last ten years. Along with
that and many other things Janet was asked if she had any lung disorders. She replied to both of these
questions with no when in fact she had been in the hospital several times in the last ten years and had a
lung disorder. She suffers from recurrent chest pains and abdominal pains. She has also been
diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. For these two reason and more the life insurance company is
refusing to payout the policy to Craig.
A normal case of life insurance is paid out upon the death of the person insured but in this
circumstance the payment is being withheld. The main legal issue in this case is can the life insurance
company withhold payment of the insured amount. On that another hand does Craig, the beneficiary
of the life insurance, have the right to receive or to be owed the

Description Of A Bed And Breakfast
A bed and breakfast is typically a guesthouse or a small hotel that offers sleeping accommodations and
breakfast meals in the morning. Provided that there is sufficient resources available in designing a bed
and breakfast, it would be tailored mostly around couples and romance. There will be a lot of dark red,
white and perhaps a little bit of gold in the color schematics. Unlike the classical bed and breakfast
that usually carry a more vintage theme, I would add a modern feel also. The bed and breakfast will be
in a Victorian styled home. This bed and breakfast will be named the Love Nest, in order for potential
guest to have an idea of what to expect. At the entrance, an asymmetrical garden rose petal filled water
fountain will serve as a great attraction in the middle of the lawn. We will have car garages for guest
that arrive with cars. There will also be cherubs on each side of the door. The doors will be made of
real wood that is of a French design. As one enters, a beautiful crystal chandelier will cast over an
adjoining staircase that is of the European neoclassical style. These stairs will take the guests up to
their rooms. The smell in the air will be that of a light vanilla. The walls will be all white with touches
of gold. The dark red will be used to accentuate the room with curtains, abstract paintings, couches,
sculptures and vases with bunches of roses. There will be eight suites available and each will have its

Overhauser Effect Essay
Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) through Overhauser effect has several applications including
Overhauser enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (OMRI) and considerable interest in the field of
biomedical imaging [1 8]. Recent experiments on common free radicals are often used such as family
of nitroxide free radicals, and several studies have done to determine which derivatives give the best
signal enhancement [7 11]. For low frequency in vivo electron spin resonance imaging (ESRI) and as
contrast agents for OMRI, nitroxyl radicals have been used as spin probes [4,12], and successfully
obtained images of tissue water protons in the vicinity of paramagnetic radicals and achieved in vivo
imaging [13].Recently, isotropically labeling nitroxyl spin probes used to investigate redox sensitive
molecular probes for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In ESRI, both spatial and the spectral information of the exogenously administered spin probes are
obtained. Hence, ESRI often presents the in vivo of the spin probes without complementary
anatomical information. In contrast, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) gives superior anatomic
information. OMRI is a double resonance technique that depends on the Overhauser effect. It coupled
the advantages of MRI with the sensitivity of ESR, by making use of the Overhauser effect [4,16]. In
this phenomenon, the relatively stronger magnetic moment of the electron is used to transfer of
polarization from unpaired electron spins to the coupled proton spins results in the enhancement of the
NMR signal in regions of the sample containing free radical, revealing its spatial distribution in the
final image. This leads to the possibility of NMR imaging at very low magnetic fields [4,9,12,17 26].
These advantages motivated us to explore, for the first time, the capability of OMRI for simultaneous
molecular imaging of redox reactions using nitroxyl radicals. Nitroxyl radicals have been widely used
as spin

Throughout his childhood, he dealt with great quantities of loss, as well as the fact he had to scurry for
survival. Therefore, Benedict worked many jobs to help his situation, and despite the troubles, he
always seemed to be determined to do more. After all of his jobs, Benedict wanted to be in the militia,
as well as join the sons of liberty, to take action over the violated rights and frustration that taxes are

Tale Of Two Cities Symbolism Analysis
You might be thinking, What is Dickens s hint of magic. Well, in the book A Tale of Two Cities by
Charles Dickens, written in 1859, Dickens uses symbolism to give the readers a hint about what will
come later on in the story. Charles Dickens had written this book with the setting during the French
revolution. During this period in the book France was against its unequal hierarchy; mostly stated by
the peasants who couldn t earn money and poor who hated the rich because they thought the rule of
being born into a class was unfair. The Revolution initially started when the Bastille, a prison where
Dr. Manette was first imprisoned by the Evremonde brothers because Manette could have spread the
word about their wrongdoings, was taken down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because this group lacks a right way to earn money, they try to do different jobs which could even be
illegal. The author uses symbolism with the character Jerry Cruncher to foreshadow his secret
occupation of being a resurrection man to earn extra money. One example of this is his rusty hands.
Cruncher s rusty hands get spotted by his son, and then little Jerry says, Always rusty! His fingers are
always rusty! muttered Young Jerry. Where does my father get all that iron rust from? He doesn t get
no iron rust here(Dickens 43)! Jerry s fingers do not actually have rust; they have sand and grime from
when he goes to dig up graves. Because he doesn t get it from his house, as young Jerry stated, it
indicates that he isn t honest and that he is doing all this behind his family s back. Dickens also uses
Jerry s muddy boots to foreshadow the scene where Jerry Cruncher s illegal money earning job is
exposed. As Jerry Cruncher wakes up to his wife praying, which he hates, he throws his muddy boot at
her, then the narrator says, After hailing the morn with this second salutation, he threw a boot at the
woman as a third. It was a very muddy boot, and may introduce the odd circumstance connected with
Mr. Cruncher s domestic economy, that, whereas he often came home after banking hours with clean
boots, he often got up next morning to find the

Analysis Of Like Water For Chocolate
Based off the novel with the same name by Laura Esquivel, the film Like Water for Chocolate cleverly
uses food in order to not only help viewers get to know its characters but also to convey their feelings
for one another. The film follows the De La Garza family living in their ranch in Mexico during the
Mexican Revolution and centers around Tita, one of the three daughters in the family who falls madly
in love with a young man named Pedro. Continuing an old family tradition that states the youngest
daughter must stay home and take of the mother until she dies, Tita s mother Elena forbids her from
marrying him when he comes to ask for Tita s hand. Elena convinces Pedro to instead marry Tita s
oldest sister Rosaura. It isn t until later that Pedro reveals to Tita the real reason he chose to marry her
sister was so he could remain close to her. The rest of the film shows how Tita deals with the painful
reality of having her love become her brother in law and how these two fight to stay in one another s
life.
Besides her love for Pedro, one other thing is constant in this film and that is Tita s love for cooking.
Learning how to cook from the ranch s elderly maid Nacha from a very early age, Tita becomes
known for her delicious dishes and eventually becomes the head cook of the ranch after Nacha dies. It
s almost as if seems Tita was fated to become a master in the kitchen. One of the very first scenes of
the movie is of Mama Elena giving birth to her on a kitchen table where

Links Between Organisational Objectives And Personal...
Personal development objectives are affected by organisations goals, as companies will want to steer
their employees in a direction that should meet their corporate strategy and link into the mission
statement. However, personal objectives and organisational objectives should tie in together and have
a common goal, which should meet the needs of both participants (Dransfield, 2000). Although
organisational objectives can hold a negative attribute to employee s personal development, if the
company invests time into employees PDP and employees can see that there is a plan in place for job
promotion, then they re more likely to keep their staff (Cotton, 2011). A future plan will add value to
the business as it will improve employee s skills and personal development strengths which will give a
positive effect on the company performance. A.C.1.1 Identify the links between organisational
objectives and personal development objectives Employees should make their goals aligned within the
organisation strategy Achieve a common goal within a given time frame Work within employee
strengths Acknowledge weakness of individuals Provide support for individuals taking on intense/

Motifi Of Water In Jamaica Kincaid s Annie John
Motifi of Water in Annie John
Oceans cover about seventy percent of the Earth. They are essential for our environment since they
produce more than half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. Without our vast oceans, humankind would
be unable to survive. In Annie John, by Jamaica Kincaid, water is utilized as a motif to show the
growth and develop of Annie, a young girl in the Caribbean. Annie grows up learning how to properly
balance the values of the colonial world and the native Caribbean culture, Obeah, through her mother
s parenting. Kincaid uses water as a tool of empowerment to Annie s growth by curing, nurturing, and
transforming her.
Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths in the ocean to help heal her from bodily aches.
In the Obeah culture, it is believed that water can cure someone of any body aches. Annie informs the
reader of her childhood when she bathes in the sea after church, It was at a time when I was thought to
have weak kidneys and in the sea had been recommended as a strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42).
Annie values the Obeah traditions because her mother athing in the water is a remedy for Annie s
body. The sea demonstrates a higher power since three quarters cover the earth s surface. Oceans are a
natural force no mankind can replicate; therefore, they hold an influential component to heal Annie s
weak kidneys. Thus, allowing water to heal Annie from any bodily aches she had as a child.
The influence of Obeah culture encourages Annie to acknowledge water as a remedy to cleanse the
body. So, when Annie becomes bedridden, she has intense hallucinations believing several pictures in
the room are approaching her. Her initial response is to clean the items with water, as she notes, None
of the people in the wedding picture, except for me, had any face left. In the picture of my mother and
father, I had erased them from the waist down. In the picture of me wearing my confirmation dress, I
had erased all of myself except for the shoes (120). Annie s response to clean the picture with a wet
cloth rather than to allow it to dry reflects her mother s perspective on cleanliness. Therefore, her
subconscious illustrates the outside forces bring her down. Meanwhile, leaving her parents

explore the vast wilderness of this glorious new land. Boone was remembered as having never liked
school. Rather, he preferred to be out hunting or trapping. At the age of twelve, he received his first

The Incredible Revolution Book Review
What Is A Christian The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical is one of the most
insightful books that I have ever read as it helped me to see the world in a different perspective, the
writer Shane Claiborne, tries to persuade or at least tries to give an insight of a very important conflict
in our modern world: The modern Christianity; as it has been corrupted by the avarice of this world.
Claiborne influenced myself to define a Christian as someone who follows the teachings of Christ not
only by thought but also, in action such as caring for the poor; focusing on pursuing Christ instead of
wealth, and becoming a proactive member of the community.
This chapter is interesting about the fact that raises a good question, How

Comparison between Judaism and Christianity
Comparison between Judaism and Christianity
Name
Institution Christianity and Judaism are two religions which share an origin. Abraham is the father of
faith of both Christians and Judaists. The two religions are based on the Old Testament; however,
Judaism has refused to acknowledge the New Testament. It is said that is a Judaist accepts
Christianity, and then become complete. However, if a pagan accepts Christianity, they are converted
because they do not have the basis that is provided by Judaism. Both Christianity and Judaism believe
in the existence of heaven and hell. Both religion follow the same ethical code and believe that God
had the same plan for salving the fallen race. The two religions also preach of the sinfulness of ...

Salvation in Judaism on the other hand is attained through adhering to the Ten Commandments that
were given to Moses and passed on to the Israelites. Judaist communicates to God through dialogue
that is achieved by several traditions and rituals that are continuous. Sacrifices are also made to
appease an angry God. Moreover, according to Christian religion, since man inherited the sins of
Adam, they are by nature evil. Despite the fact that people know right and evil, by choosing to do the
right thing they do not become righteous. They are only transformed into righteousness by accepting
the transforming grace of Christ. Judaists on the other hand believe that is man has been given the
freedom of choice. They are thus responsible for their actions whether good or bad. A person should
choose good from bad. They also believe that it is possible to become holy by following all the rules
that have been put in place (Chilton 2012). For instance, the Jews hold a ceremony every year where
they pray and fast to gain forgiveness. People who participate in this ceremony are written in the book
of life. In Christianity however, God is the only person responsible for judging people. This is because
Jesus is the only one who can see through a person deeds and read the nature of their hearts. No man
knows who is righteous and who is not. All this will be revealed in the final day when the

Compare And Contrast Fodo And Beowulf
Often, people do not see Frodo as the hero in The Fellowship of The Ring. Some see the hero being
Aragon. He fits the more typical hero standard of strong, courageous, and strategic. Aragon can be
compared to Beowulf. He is the main character, in the epic Beowulf, that Tolkien translated. An article
describes Beowulf as, He is peerlessly noble, brave, and strong. Each of his hands have a grip equal to
that of thirty men. He is alone in the World (Acocella). Both characters seem as they could take on the
world by themselves. Aragon perhaps could not. He knew he was not strong enough to withstand
temptation of the ring. Like Aragon, Beowulf had a weakness too. It was his ego. He would often get
himself into trouble when completing tasks for

Essay about Comprehensive study of Road Roughness in India
COMPREHENSIVE STUDY ON ROAD ROUGHNESS
Road roughness is the deviation of the pavement surface from a true planar surface with characteristic
dimension that affect vehicle dynamics, ride quality, dynamic load and drainage , for example
longitudinal profile, transverse profile, and cross slope(ASTM E867). By causing vehicle vibrations,
roughness has a direct influence on vehicle wear, ride comfort, and safety. The relationship between
vehicle operating cost and road roughness are well established through several studies conducted in
India and abroad. Roughness measurements are an important factor in making decisions towards
spending limited budgets for maintenance and improvements. Due to this, specifications for roughness
have been adopted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The roughness of the pavement causes change in the normal forces that act at the tyre pavement
interface and affects the lateral forces needed to control a vehicle, thereby influencing the steering
capabilities of the vehicle. Roughness can also cause significant loss of breaking force or slip
resistance on a vehicle. In addition to this, problems can arise due to variation of roughness in each of
the wheel tracks of a lane. These differences of roughness in each wheel path cause differences in the
breaking and sliding forces that act on the vehicle. This will cause the exposure of vehicle to different
levels of friction on each side, which can cause a significant safety problem.
Effect on Vehicle Operating Cost
The Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) components consist of fuel consumption, oil consumption, tyre
wear, maintenance and repair, and depreciation. Road surface roughness is one of the factors
determining VOC. While increasing roughness increases fuel consumption at any given speed,
increasing roughness also reduces travel speed, which reduces fuel consumption per unit distance for
most free running travel speeds. Repair and maintenance cost is also get affected by road roughness.
Effect on Vehicle Riding Comfort
Vehicle s riding quality varies with travel speed, the dynamic characteristics of the roughness of the
road. Assessment of ride quality and road roughness by measuring the

  • 2. The Problem With Employee Safety Essay Employers spend thousands of dollars to ensure workplace safety. However when an accident occurs, and company production and sales are at stake, many overlook operational best practices in business ethics. Today, companies are greatly impacted by societies evolvultion toward a good place for everyone diverse in culture, religion, and socioeconomic background. This trajectory drives social changes, activists, and theorists who believe attaining the good is worth pursuing and has no boundaries. As Aristotle noted, the end goals of political and individual well being are justice and happiness (Collins 2015). In examining the Trouble in the Truss Construction Shop case study, a pragmatic approach was used to ethically formulate possible remedies to the company s issue with employee safety. Explanation of the problem and viewpoints One week ago, John Craftsman, a company employee severely injured his hand while pushing a piece of wood through a table saw during his shift at the Truss Construction Shop. Mr. Craftsman is the third accident in the current quarter that has workers in the shop upset and claiming unsafe working conditions. The workers have reported to OSHA and the local newspaper that the company has failed to accept responsibility for employee safety. The quarrel over who is the blame for the accident has caused unwanted publicity and could potentially jeopardize business sales. A thorough examination of the employee and company s viewpoints were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The City Of Glass Language Analysis Throughout the class we have developed a clear understanding of the concise list of themes and structures typically found in metaphysical detective stories. Merivale and Sweeney in their introduction to Detecting Texts offer a clear and concise list of themes and structures characteristic of the metaphysical detective story. They are: 1. the defeated sleuth, whether he be an armchair detective or a private eye; 2. the world, city, or text as labyrinth; 3. the purloined letter, embedded text, mise en abyme, textual constraint, or text as object; 4. the ambiguity, ubiquity, eerie meaningfulness, or sheer meaninglessness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The detective fails to solve the crime, but also confronts insoluble mysteries of interpretation and identity. In these types of mysteries, detectives don t believe in coincidences and believe every little thing has potential meaning to solving the case. Anything may be connected to anything else if the detective, and the reader, chooses. Opposite of traditional, straightforward detective stories, the metaphysical detective stories find a complex and deceptive mystery where the detective becomes intertwined in a very complex case. The detectives in metaphysical detective stories lose their stable position within their world. They often identify themselves with the object of their pursuit, almost to the point of giving up their own identity as in Auster s City of Glass and suggested by Poe in, Man of the Crowd. For example, Edgar Allan Poe s The Man of the Crowd features a character that decides to follow a man because he thinks the man has a horrible secret. His quest to find the man through the labyrinth of the city streets is unsuccessful. Leaving the man, narrator, and the reader without a permanent ending, left to try and solve the case and predict the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This decision will not only impact the mother but it will also have many great affects on the baby. In the media we only see advertisements about formula which costs more money and is artificial. Why is it that the most natural source of food for our baby s does not have the same kind of attention, if not more? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mothers who are thinking of breastfeeding may feel that they are being judged when they feed their baby in public because some people think that it is not appropriate for mothers to breastfeed in public. According to Yimyam and Hanpa (2013), In order to promote breastfeeding practices among employed mothers, workplace interventions must be designed using multiple levels of influence including employee, employer and workplace. In order for a new mom to feel comfortable breastfeeding, she needs to feel comfortable everywhere she goes especially her workplace. The employers should allow the breastfeeding employee to take breaks when needing to pump and should provide a fridge so they can store the milk somewhere safe. The workplace should also have somewhere clean and private for the woman to go to pump her milk. Also if the employer makes it known to the whole company that they support having breastfeeding zones then all of the other employees will be more accepting to it. This will allow the breastfeeding employee to feel more comfortable and will most likely allow her to breastfeed longer. Changing how the workplace views breastfeeding will help postpartum mothers to breastfeed longer and promote others to choose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Culture Of The Italian Culture The Description The cultural group I decided to gain more insight on through this experience was the Italian culture. Explain history and describe! The immersion experiences in which I participated were great opportunities to learn about the culture in more depth. The first experience I was able to attend was on June 13, 2015. In downtown Indianapolis Indiana, I had the opportunity to attend the Italian Culture Festival. Organized each year by the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, this festival was full of music, cultural food, and I was lucky enough to experience a traditional Italian religious procession and Mass (Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2015). The festival was packed with people from the city and from the Italian culture. I had never experienced a festival such as the one held in Indianapolis. Being from the east coast and not of the Italian culture, the festival was a refreshing yet, uncomfortable experience at times. I observed a traditional dance, the tarantella and those around the area all seemed to know most of the steps or the words to some of the songs in the set they played. The locals tried to get me to dance along but, I could not keep up with them on the fly. The tarantella is one of the most famous of Italian dances and performers dance quickly to an upbeat song (Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2015). It is said that the performers sweat out the poison of a deadly tarantula and the dance could last for hours and could be religious in nature to some. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Human Resource Management in Business Context Performance bonuses offer a win win gain to both organisations and employees. Discuss, making reference to both theory and case examples Introduction Is performance related pay (PRP) really a motivator for employees and is it an effective way for organisations to gain and retain high performing staff. This is questionable especially as organisations differ in size, organisational culture (therefore differing needs), the ability and/or resources to manage an effective process to support PRP. This study will explore whether performance bonuses offer a win win for both the organisation and the employees, using primarily the public sector, with reference to the private sector. Performance Management Cycle Key performance indicators (KPIs) are formed as part of the performance and appraisal process to measure the output of an individual. The performance appraisal allows a comparison to be made of the actual performance against expected performance (KPIs), which is linked to feedback and whether the individual has warranted a reward. However, there are many potential problems with the performance appraisal system. The process can become a bureaucratic process with managers seeing it as a tick box exercise to be completed once a year. There could be a lack of understanding of the objectives by the employee, or the organisation may not have a clear strategy and furthermore the process is subjective and open to human bias. It is also very difficult to quantify individual performance such as intangible elements, as mentioned earlier. So it could be argued that the process is not very transparent. To overcome this, Beer et al. introduced the Harvard Model (Gilmore. S, 2009, p.9) which takes into account a wider range of stakeholders interests to provide an input into the appraisal process which allows the reduction of a bias opinion of just one person. It is stated as reduction, as the process is still subjective and open to a range of perceptual errors although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These reformers were mainly comprised of men and women from the large northern cities and rural religious communities of Wisconsin (Schultz, 2013). The industrial age created enormous amounts of wealth, but people were living in the worst conditions and working longer hours than ever before. The Social Gospel movement sought to improve the working conditions, restrict the child labor laws and fight for social justice (Fales, 2013). This methodology was directly against what the Industrialist believed. Which was a Darwinist attitude of the survival of the fittest. The next influential reformer group that had a ... One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful grip on the minds of many, and contributed to feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of pure or mixed descendants of Native Americans in the region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the Aztec Empire by HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. This paper attempts to shatter one of these myths; namely, that Cortes was an extraordinarily brave and intelligent individual who accomplished an almost miraculous feat. Both decisions were based on his ignorance of the actual power of the Triple Alliance and the confederation of Tlaxcallan.[7] Cortes underestimated these two because of his early experiences in Mesoamerica. Although they initially tried to avoid confrontations with the native communities, the Spaniards had to engage in several battles against a coalition of Maya armies near Potonchan (located in the present day state of Tabasco). However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons and military tactics. The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when Cortes arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted in favor of a strategy of deterrence rather than war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him with a series of lavish gifts that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8] However, the strategy backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts and interpreted them as a sign of weakness. • 13. The Pros and Cons of Open Source Essay Open Source: Good and Bad Introduction: In the following paper I will be discussing the use of open source software as part of a larger project. Example uses of this include incorporating existing publicly available source code within another piece of software. Because the term open source has such broad implications, I will attempt to explain it within the context of this paper. Open source code comes with many different licenses such as GPL, BSD, and MIT. I will describe the most popular licensing options and how they differ. Many companies believe open source software projects have an immense lack of accountability; this is simply untrue. Lastly, open source software has recently received an abundance of attention in the media because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to keep in mind that their main intent is to protect the rights of the original author, not to impede your use of the author s code. Licensing Options: The most popular license is known as the General Public License (GPL for short.) This license places the software into the public domain with some restrictions. Additionally, all improvements or derived code must also be placed under the GPL. If you are planning on releasing software based in part on code obtained under the GPL, you must provide the source code for your version. You may charge a fee for this, but people are still allowed to buy a copy and redistribute it for free. Note that if you are building software for private use, you do not have to redistribute this private code. Using the aforementioned example, if you were to use a piece of code from Gaim in your program, you must release your whole project under the GPL if you wish to make your project publicly available. Another very popular license is the MIT license. This is a very simple license that in essence states that you can do whatever you want with this code. You may include MIT licensed code into a commercial project as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This beginning of the play reflects the anxieties of the late Elizabethan age wherein monarchical succession was uncertain, and competing political ideologies created an environment of suspicion. These poetic images serve to illustrate, through inversion, that indeed those ideas most firmly believed in medieval Europe had in fact been exposed as inaccurate scientific truths. This challenges audiences to recognise. Both within the play and the context, that assumed values were no longer reliable. The continuing evocation of a climate of uncertainty and scepticism within the narrative ironically reinforced through Hamlet s own decision to adopt an antic disposition , and his deliberate action to deceive others serves to reinforce the audience s recognition of the uncertainty of characters. Overhauser Effect Essay Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) through Overhauser effect has several applications including Overhauser enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (OMRI) and considerable interest in the field of biomedical imaging [1 8]. Recent experiments on common free radicals are often used such as family of nitroxide free radicals, and several studies have done to determine which derivatives give the best signal enhancement [7 11]. For low frequency in vivo electron spin resonance imaging (ESRI) and as contrast agents for OMRI, nitroxyl radicals have been used as spin probes [4,12], and successfully obtained images of tissue water protons in the vicinity of paramagnetic radicals and achieved in vivo imaging [13].Recently, isotropically labeling nitroxyl spin probes used to investigate redox sensitive molecular probes for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In ESRI, both spatial and the spectral information of the exogenously administered spin probes are obtained. Hence, ESRI often presents the in vivo of the spin probes without complementary anatomical information. In contrast, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) gives superior anatomic information. OMRI is a double resonance technique that depends on the Overhauser effect. It coupled the advantages of MRI with the sensitivity of ESR, by making use of the Overhauser effect [4,16]. In this phenomenon, the relatively stronger magnetic moment of the electron is used to transfer of polarization from unpaired electron spins to the coupled proton spins results in the enhancement of the NMR signal in regions of the sample containing free radical, revealing its spatial distribution in the final image. This leads to the possibility of NMR imaging at very low magnetic fields [4,9,12,17 26]. Well, in the book A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, written in 1859, Dickens uses symbolism to give the readers a hint about what will come later on in the story. Charles Dickens had written this book with the setting during the French revolution. During this period in the book France was against its unequal hierarchy; mostly stated by the peasants who couldn t earn money and poor who hated the rich because they thought the rule of being born into a class was unfair. The author uses symbolism with the character Jerry Cruncher to foreshadow his secret occupation of being a resurrection man to earn extra money. One example of this is his rusty hands. Cruncher s rusty hands get spotted by his son, and then little Jerry says, Always rusty! His fingers are always rusty! muttered Young Jerry. Where does my father get all that iron rust from? He doesn t get no iron rust here(Dickens 43)! Jerry s fingers do not actually have rust; they have sand and grime from when he goes to dig up graves. Because he doesn t get it from his house, as young Jerry stated, it indicates that he isn t honest and that he is doing all this behind his family s back. Dickens also uses Jerry s muddy boots to foreshadow the scene where Jerry Cruncher s illegal money earning job is exposed. As Jerry Cruncher wakes up to his wife praying, which he hates, he throws his muddy boot at her, then the narrator says, After hailing the morn with this second salutation, he threw a boot at the woman as a third. They are essential for our environment since they produce more than half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. Without our vast oceans, humankind would be unable to survive. In Annie John, by Jamaica Kincaid, water is utilized as a motif to show the growth and develop of Annie, a young girl in the Caribbean. Annie grows up learning how to properly balance the values of the colonial world and the native Caribbean culture, Obeah, through her mother s parenting. Kincaid uses water as a tool of empowerment to Annie s growth by curing, nurturing, and transforming her. Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths in the ocean to help heal her from bodily aches. In the Obeah culture, it is believed that water can cure someone of any body aches. Annie informs the reader of her childhood when she bathes in the sea after church, It was at a time when I was thought to have weak kidneys and in the sea had been recommended as a strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42). Annie values the Obeah traditions because her mother athing in the water is a remedy for Annie s body. The sea demonstrates a higher power since three quarters cover the earth s surface. Oceans are a natural force no mankind can replicate; therefore, they hold an influential component to heal Annie s weak kidneys. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Salvation in Judaism on the other hand is attained through adhering to the Ten Commandments that were given to Moses and passed on to the Israelites. Judaist communicates to God through dialogue that is achieved by several traditions and rituals that are continuous. Sacrifices are also made to appease an angry God. Moreover, according to Christian religion, since man inherited the sins of Adam, they are by nature evil. Despite the fact that people know right and evil, by choosing to do the right thing they do not become righteous. They are only transformed into righteousness by accepting the transforming grace of Christ. Judaists on the other hand believe that is man has been given the freedom of choice. They are thus responsible for their actions whether good or bad. A person should choose good from bad. They also believe that it is possible to become holy by following all the rules that have been put in place (Chilton 2012). For instance, the Jews hold a ceremony every year where they pray and fast to gain forgiveness. People who participate in this ceremony are written in the book of life. In Christianity however, God is the only person responsible for judging people. This is because Jesus is the only one who can see through a person deeds and read the nature of their hearts. No man knows who is righteous and who is not. All this will be revealed in the final day when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Compare And Contrast Fodo And Beowulf Often, people do not see Frodo as the hero in The Fellowship of The Ring. Some see the hero being Aragon. He fits the more typical hero standard of strong, courageous, and strategic. Aragon can be compared to Beowulf. He is the main character, in the epic Beowulf, that Tolkien translated. An article describes Beowulf as, He is peerlessly noble, brave, and strong. Each of his hands have a grip equal to that of thirty men. He is alone in the World (Acocella). Both characters seem as they could take on the world by themselves. Aragon perhaps could not. He knew he was not strong enough to withstand temptation of the ring. Like Aragon, Beowulf had a weakness too. It was his ego. He would often get himself into trouble when completing tasks for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Essay about Comprehensive study of Road Roughness in India COMPREHENSIVE STUDY ON ROAD ROUGHNESS Road roughness is the deviation of the pavement surface from a true planar surface with characteristic dimension that affect vehicle dynamics, ride quality, dynamic load and drainage , for example longitudinal profile, transverse profile, and cross slope(ASTM E867). By causing vehicle vibrations, roughness has a direct influence on vehicle wear, ride comfort, and safety. The relationship between vehicle operating cost and road roughness are well established through several studies conducted in India and abroad. Roughness measurements are an important factor in making decisions towards spending limited budgets for maintenance and improvements. Due to this, specifications for roughness have been adopted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The roughness of the pavement causes change in the normal forces that act at the tyre pavement interface and affects the lateral forces needed to control a vehicle, thereby influencing the steering capabilities of the vehicle. Roughness can also cause significant loss of breaking force or slip resistance on a vehicle. In addition to this, problems can arise due to variation of roughness in each of the wheel tracks of a lane. These differences of roughness in each wheel path cause differences in the breaking and sliding forces that act on the vehicle. This will cause the exposure of vehicle to different levels of friction on each side, which can cause a significant safety problem. Effect on Vehicle Operating Cost The Vehicle Operating Cost (VOC) components consist of fuel consumption, oil consumption, tyre wear, maintenance and repair, and depreciation. Road surface roughness is one of the factors determining VOC. While increasing roughness increases fuel consumption at any given speed, increasing roughness also reduces travel speed, which reduces fuel consumption per unit distance for most free running travel speeds. Repair and maintenance cost is also get affected by road roughness. Effect on Vehicle Riding Comfort Vehicle s riding quality varies with travel speed, the dynamic characteristics of the roughness of the road. Assessment of ride quality and road roughness by measuring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At age 77 Morrie is still working as a professor and he doesn t quit until he physically is unable to work. In the opening scenes of the movie we see Morrie doing what he loves. He goes and gets food by himself and goes dancing! Even when Morrie is diagnosed with ALS he still remains as socially active and involved as he can. He even throws himself a funeral because he doesn t want people to wait till he is dead before they say nice things about him. Morrie remains as social as he possibly can be in his last days. He is constantly getting calls from people and loves when people come visit him. I think that talking to people and sharing his passion for life with others is what keeps him going. • 36. Operant Conditioning Analysis In order to aid my roommate s diet regimen the use of all aspects of operant conditioning will become significant. Since operant conditioning is the method through which an individual s behavior is modified via the use of consequences, positive and negative, both punishment and reward should be a part of my roommate s diet plan. Since grasping the inital plan is an underlying problem of this conditioning, a reinforcer, like a delicious snack will be used at five minute/ fixed ratio schedule to ensure that the subject understands all aspects of the study like the reinfrocements and the punishments. First, a strict plan must be laid out in which the ultimate reward is made clear, this is the reward that is laid out by Throndike s Law of Effect, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, an alarm will be set for exercise timings as an additional discrimination stimulus. This alarm will signify the duration and rigor of the exercise in order to illicit the target behavior of a well established and followed work out routine. Throughout the month, the above discrimination stimuli will be used three times daily at fixed ratio intervals to encourage regularity. If any activity not determined by the schedule set for the subject occurs, the problem can be dealt either with a negative punishment or negative reinforcement. For example, if the subject does not meet the rigor of the exercise or consumes a diet other than the prescribed one, the possibility of joining the football team can be removed as a negative punishment. Similarly, delicious snacks established to be reinforcements at the beginning of the month will be removed as a negative reinforcer for not following the plan. Similarly, to reward target behavior (following the plan) a positive reinforcer will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction {NEED ISA BACKGROUND/MISSION CONTENT} ISA is one element within an active area of research in the design and development of tools to improve the situational awareness of military commanders involved in battlefield operations. Evaluating the effectiveness of tools proposed for introduction into the battlespace requires the use of realistic command tasks and an appropriate research methodology that controls for task difficulty. Typical evaluations, if they occur at all, frequently do not employ proper experimental (or quasi experimental) methodology and address only qualitative elements of evaluation (e.g. user ratings).
