Silent Spring Thesis
Silent Spring(essay) Rachel Carson s Silent Spring changed the people s views regarding the use of
toxic materials that continues to destroy our environment. She is clearly optimistic to encourage every
citizens to participate on using more efficient, yet simple strategies to regenerate our natural resources
and ecosystems. Although the book calls for a better use of chemicals, some people disapprove and
attacked it as misrepresenting science. It was written in 1958, Carson says that her own bitter
experience brought her attention to write a book concerning the problems our nature is facing. It took
her four years to make the book, and though she is a great writer, some magazine publishers turned her
down. These publishers feared that they might lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was mentioned in these lines, The town lay in the midst of a checkerboard of prosperous farms, with
fields of grain and hillsides of orchards where, in spring, white clouds of bloom drifted above the
green field. In autumn, oak and maple and birch set up blaze of color that flamed and flickered across
a backdrop of pines. Then foxes barked in the hills and deer silently crossed the fields, half hidden in
the midst of the fall mornings. Unfortunately, this beauty didn t last long, Carson began to tell how we
are destroying nature by polluting it, Carson says, Then a strange blight crept over the area and
everything began to change. Some evil spell had settled on the community: mysterious maladies swept
the flocks of chickens; the cattle and sheep sickened and died. The evil spell she was referring to was a
symbol for pollution. Carson also said that, there were change, a change that affected our environment
negatively. These changes involves the depth of our animals, and probably, the cause of their death of
our own animals were pesticides, used to spray into the plants that they

Egalitarian Model Of Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
Narcotics Anonymous, or NA, is a twelve step program much like the more popular Alcoholics
Anonymous. NA maintains that all members of the group are important in the unity of the group and
that in no way does one individual rule over another. As a person in recovery and member of NA I
have learned, through literature, meetings, and my sponsor, that NA is built upon an egalitarian model.
A study done by Jeffrey K. Snyder and Daniel M. Fessler has determined that NA is an egalitarian
organization that is unique in that brings into stark relief the conflict between egalitarianism and the
social dynamics of knowledge transmission. By this Snyder and Fessler mean that because of the
process that keeps addicts clean is based on gaining knowledge ... Show more content on

This is true and has personally worked in my life through attending meetings and fellowshipping, or
hanging out with other recovering addicts. Meetings themselves, as Snyder and Fessler explain, have
strong norms governing participation (cf. Ma ̈kela ̈ et al. 1996 regarding AA): turn taking is cardinal,
individuals should only speak about themselves, individuals should not directly contradict previous
speakers statements, nor should direct advice be offered, and members should not endorse outside
entities. Snyder and Fessler go on to conclude that the layouts of NA meetings are overtly egalitarian.
Additionally, they find that although these meetings function and operate as egalitarian, the members
themselves rely on mutualistic relationships in which NA orthodoxy holds that the characteristics of
the addict are such as to necessitate egalitarianism if addicts are to help one another in mutualistic
interactions. For members of NA, this means that the egalitarian model works because members are
willing to be apart of the relationships that are essential to their recovery. Within these meetings and
fellowshipping opportunities, members with a substantial amount of clean time who are very
knowledgeable of the Basic Text, Twelve Steps, and Twelve Traditions of NA, tend to dish out their
opinions and suggestions about another addicts situation with a sense of having more wisdom. This
type of knowledge sharing makes sense personally because, if one buys into the literature and has
success in the program, the Basic Texas describes that a more experienced person in recovery is the
key to a newcomer s abstinence. It only makes sense to surround you with someone else who knows
what it feels like to be in early recovery or trying to get clean. So, this egalitarian model, in addition to
the mutualistic relationships that are essential to a person s recovery, works perfectly

Causes Of Water Logging In Dhaka
WATER LOGGING PROBLEM AND DRAINAGE IN DHAKA
IN RECENT years Dhaka City has been facing extensive water logging, especially, during the
monsoon. Even without climate change, likely damage from waterlogging in Dhaka by 2050 is Taka
11,000 crore. In a changing climate with more intense rainfalls, the loss will be Taka 139,000 crores
between 2014 and 2050. These damages can be reduced significantly to Taka 3,700 crores, if Taka 270
crores investment is made. The amount Taka 270 crores is equivalent to only 0.35 percent of the
government s annual development budget expenditure for 2014 2015.(World Bank,2015).Problems
that occur in the city are increase in water pollution, traffic congestion, air and noise pollution, solid
waste disposal, black smoke etc. Inadequate drainage sections, conventional drainage system with low
capacity and gravity, natural siltation, absence of inlets and outlets, indefinite drainage outlets, lack of
proper maintenance of existing drainage system, and over and above disposal of solid waste into the
drains and drainage paths are accounted for the prime causes of blockage in drainage system and
water logging. During the last 25 years or so rapid uncontrolled urbanization has taken place in its
capital city Dhaka. Substantial increase in built up areas has taken place due to insensitive
developments of areas through private land developers and real estate business (Tawhid, 2004). The
city has experienced water logging for last couple of years which creates

Kokoro Trauma
There are many types of trauma that can affect an adolescent and without the proper treatment the
juvenile can have difficulty adapting and developing into adulthood. This situation is animated in
Kokoro by Natsume Soseki. This Japanese novel centers around a university student and a man whom
he refers to as Sensei. The student, also the narrator of this story, goes on a journey to reveal the
secrets behind this enigmatic teacher who lives a reclusive and idle life with his wife. Sensei is weary
of the world in general because of his agonizing past. During his university days, he committed a
crime which has haunted him ever since. On the night of K s death, Sensei was terrified by the scene
in which resulted in a permanent, mental scar that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon discovering K s corpse, Sensei had an urge to properly look at his friend s countenance. The
author writes, Not only had the sight filled me with sudden horror, but the head had felt inordinately
heavy (231). The word choice used by Soseki in this scene elicits the devastating consequence of his
sudden compulsion. Words such as, sudden horror and inordinately heavy, describing a dead man s
head depicts the emotional and mental scarring effect it created on a growing young man. Having
experienced this at such a young age and never receiving the proper treatment, Sensei was traumatized
which resulted in his isolation and distrust of humanity. Additionally, as the night continues, Sensei
becomes restless. He claims, What had truly frightened me was my own destiny; it seemed to have
been shaped... by this friend of mine, who now lay cold and lifeless before me (231). Sensei, being at
such a vulnerable age, suffered the guilt of leading his companion to death, which had a tolling effect
in his development. The dreadful and ghastly scene that laid before him traumatized his developing
mind. Soseki use words such as cold and lifeless to describe K s dead body to emphasize the
agonizing result K s death had on Sensei. The traumatic effect K s suicide had on Sensei is addressed
through Soseki s use of word

The Battle Of The Punic Wars

THE PUNIC WARS
During the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C., three wars were fought between Rome and Carthage. The
name given to describe the wars Punic, is a divided word from the Latin and Greek words for
Phoenician. The city of Carthage, situated in what is now Tunisia in North Africa, was founded in 814
B.C. by the Phoenicians. The first two wars were the longest 23 years and 17 years, separated by an
interval of 23 years. The last and third war lasted only three years. It started 52 years after the end of
the second Punic War. All three wars were won by Rome, which automatically emerged as the greatest
military power in the Mediterranean Sea. The hostility of Carthage impelled Rome to build up its large
army and create a strong navy just like the one Carthage had. Strong military leaders of the war for
Carthage and his sons Hasdrubal and Hannibal. Rome s outstanding leaders were Scipio Africanus.
Belief holds that Phoenician settlers from the Mediterranean port of Tyre discovered the city state of
Carthage on the northern coast of Africa. By 265 B.C., Carthage was the richest and the most
advanced city in the region, as well as its prominent naval power. Through Carthage had clashed
forcefully with several other powers in the region, notably Greece, its relations with Rome were
historically friendly, and its cities had signed several treaties defining trading rights over the years. By
275 B.C. Rome had brought

Church Visit Response Essay
Church Visit Response Essay I grew up going to Catholic Church my whole life. I have completed all
my sacraments and attended 11 years of catechism. I am very comfortable in a Catholic Church and
feel very at ease with the atmosphere and rituals performed in a Catholic church. The only time I have
ever stepped foot in a church that was not Catholic has only been for a wake or a wedding. So when it
comes to experiencing different kinds of cultural and religious practices, I am very naïve. Catholic
mass is very quiet and serene. We sing the same hymns and keep the decibels very low. Mass always
follows the same pattern and it is very structured. Although I feel connected to the Catholic Church, I
have stopped attending on a regular basis as I have gotten older. I feel that I have stopped attending
because I would often leave church not feeling fulfilled. I have a friend who has been inviting to her
church for a few years. I took this essay as an opportunity to finally attend. I visited Celebration
Church on Easter Sunday 2016. Given that it was a special Christian holiday, the church was
incredibly crowded. They had numerous children activities taking place in the parking lot. The church
volunteers that helped me find a parking and greeted me as I walked through the door were extremely
friendly. I am not trying to sound cynical, but they were almost too friendly. This was the first thing I
noticed that set this church apart from what I have previously experienced. In fact

Give It Away Analysis
Give it Away : Life Lessons from Nina Hagen The Red Hot Chili Peppers, formerly known as Tony
Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, are a funk and punk rock band that was
founded in 1983. Although the members have changed numerous times during their almost 35 year
span of success, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been known to be provocative at performances and
frequently utilize sexual innuendos in both lyrics and music videos. This is simply part of who they
are as a band. Consequently, fans can be blinded by the energy and upbeat instruments to the extent
that they may miss what is being said in the lyrics. This is certainly the case in the Red Hot Chili
Peppers 1991 hit song, Give It Away. Fans may think that lead singer Anthony Kiedis is talking about
sex when he repeats, What I ve got you ve got to get it put it in you, but he is referring to giving away
material belongings as the primary message (Red Hot Chili Peppers, l. 5). It is easy to get caught up in
the exuberance of the band during a performance and miss the key lyrics that give a song s meaning
away. The refrain is a key giveaway for the true meaning of Give It Away. Kiedis repeats, Give it away
give it away give it away give it away now numerous times throughout the song (l. 13). This is where
he is literally referring to giving material possessions to others and sharing the wealth to make the
world a better place. Gaining all the wealth in the world can t fill voids in a person s

The Riot On Racism And White Supremacy Essay
In the year 1898 in the town of Wilmington, North Carolina a riot occurred between the African
American inhabitants and the white minority of the city. Several historians accuse the origin of the riot
on racism and white supremacy. Although these two beliefs have been around for countless years, and
African Americans received the right to vote almost thirty years prior, no demonstration nor
aggressive threats, to the point in which was seen in 1898, had occurred in Wilmington until that year.
The Wilmington Race Riot was the reaction of the sociopolitical conditions that were being applied by
the Democratic Party to win the election through a sequence of diabolical campaign tactics just like
creating partial accusations about the negroes of the town thus, creating unconstitutional practices, and
threatening their existence.
The African American population had acquired notable ranks prior to the revolt, such as mayors,
firemen, City Hall janitors, positions on the Board of Aldermen, etc. Black and white neighbors
resided amongst each other. This was considered normal in Wilmington unlike any other place in
North Carolina up until the Republican Party won the election of 1894 . According to Robertson of
Wilmington there was 40 negro magistrates in the count and the custom house officers are negroes and
also the Republican representative from New Hanover was African American. He nagged about the
state that the eastern part of North Carolina was in. He did this so much

Flags Of Texas
Texas is unlike other states in that is so full of history that has, to this day, continued to form our
cultures, views, and laws. It is important to recognize the countries that have played a role in creating
the great State of Texas, and we do so by flying the six flags of the countries/republics that have, at
one point or another in history, laid claim to this land. These six flags are: the Spanish flag, the French
Flag, the Mexican flag, the flag of the Republic of Texas, the flag of the Confederate States of
America, and lastly the flag that currently flies over Texas, the flag of the United States. Together
these six different flags created a unique state that has taken all of the strong characteristics of each

Sam Houston was the president of the new nation, but he knew very quickly that Texas would not be
stable enough to stand alone. His first act was to petition for statehood to become an official state of
the United States but was denied because Texas was a slave state and would need a free state to be
added at the same time to keep the balance. So, from 1836 1845 the Republic of Texas was on its own,
fighting to survive with hostile Indians in the area and a struggling economy. Just like the Mexicans,
the Texans chose to encourage immigrants to come and settle on the land. The Adelsverein Society
encouraged German immigrants to come to Texas to stimulate the economy, which worked well
because by 1847 this society had brought more than 7,000 Germans to Texas (Mora). The German
immigrants brought a rich culture to Texas. From foods like bratwurst and dumplings, to music like
polka that inspires our Tejano music today, it is clear that the German presence is still apparent

Deregulation Of Energy Essay
The United States is in the middle of one of the biggest wealth transfers of wealth it has ever seen
since the deregulation of long distance calling. This shift in wealth is seen in the deregulation of
energy. What is energy? Energy can be described multiple ways but for the purposes of deregulation,
energy is defined as power that is transferred from the environment and converted into electricity and
gas to be used for electricity and heating. How does it work? Local utility companies own the grids
that bring power to buildings. Prior to the new regulations, they would buy the gas and/or electricity
from a source that produces for an undisclosed price, provide the building energy, then charge the
responsible party for that energy. Considering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With deregulation, consumers are now allowed to pick who the utility company purchases energy
from. The utility company still owns the grids and still brings the energy to the building. The
consumer can now choose which company based on lowest price. Competition within any industry
drives prices down which means savings for the consumer and a more level playing field for up and
coming producers. How does this translate into wealth transferring? These unknown companies that
produce energy need help with marketing. A lot of them have positioned themselves with direct sales
companies to do this instead of spending large amounts of money on an advertisements and employees
specializing in sales. The direct sales associates will acquire customers for the companies and in
return, the companies pay a commission on the monthly bill from the consumer. The energy company
does not have to pay a salary to employees to make cold calls and go door to door. Payments are only
made after the sale. It s a win/win situation. The deregulation of energy in the United States is
beneficial to all who use it, which is everyone. Consumers get to save money. Utility companies are
kept honest. Smaller companies are able to broaden their customer base which maintain job stability.
Normal people, not just employees, are able to earn commission from acquiring customers for energy

Ancient London
London was founded by Brutus of Troy about 1000 1100 B.C. after he defeated the incumbent giants
Gog and Magog and the encampment was known as Caer Troia and Troia Nova in which conjunction
with pseudo etymology, was corrupted to Trinovantum, according to the legendary Historia Regum
Britanniae which wrote by Geoffrey of Monmouth. The area prior to the Romans was inhabited by the
Trinovantes who were the Iron Age.Geoffrey provides prehistoric London with a rich array of
legendary kings, such as Lud who, he claims, renamed the town Caer Ludein, from which London was
derived, and was buried at Ludgate. However, despite intensive excavations, archaeologists have
found no evidence of a prehistoric major settlement in the area. There have been scattered prehistoric
finds, evidence of farming, burial and traces of habitation, but nothing more substantial. It is now
considered unlikely that a pre Roman city existed, but as some of the Roman city remains
unexcavated, it is still just possible that some major settlement may yet be discovered. London was
most likely a rural area with scattered settlement. Rich finds such as the Battersea Shield, found in the
Thames near Chelsea, suggest the area was important; there may have ... Show more content on

Essay about Refuting Objections to Direct Realism
Refuting Objections to Direct Realism
Introduction
Realism is the form of perception in which it is believed that there is an external world outside of our
own minds. It is the belief that regardless of what we may belief is true of false, the external world is
independent of these beliefs. There are two forms of realism which are direct and indirect. In this
essay I will argue that direct realism is a more plausible theory of perception than indirect realism by
refuting the main arguments against direct realism. I will begin by briefly describing direct and
indirect realism and follow with countering two of the main arguments indirect realists use against
direct realists.
Direct Realism vs. Indirect Realism
Direct Realism is the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
P3: It is not possible to perceive all of an object at once, only a section of its exterior surface.
C: We do not directly perceive material objects and therefore direct realism is false.
The issue with this argument lies within the second premise which claims that in order to perceive an
object, all parts must be observed at once. This claim is invalid as perceiving an object does not
require all parts to be observed as once just as reading a book does not require all pages to be read at
once or visiting friends does not require all friends to be visited at once. In the direct perception of an
object we do not see the whole object, however only a section. It is correct that we may not recognise
or identify the object we are perceiving, however it is not true that in doing this we are not in fact
directly perceiving the section of the object exposed for observation. There is no reason to assume that
direct perception does not occur unless every angle and layer of the object in question is observed and
therefore the partial character of perception argument is invalid.
The Argument from Hallucination
A second argument against direct realism, which is most commonly used, is the argument from
hallucination, as follows ;
P1: Tom sees a green tree
P2: Tom is hallucinating there is no green tree
P3: The tree that Tom sees is not an external material object
P4: The hallucination is extremely detailed and exactly resembles, is identical to, a true

Emmett Till Essay Thesis
On August 28th, 1955 in Money, Mississippi 14 year old Emmett Till was murdered by two white
men, Roy Bryant and his brother in law J.W. Milam. Emmett was murdered for allegedly flirting with
Roy Bryant s one of the men s wife. Without any hesitation the two men killed him. In 1955, 14 year
old Emmett Till was visiting family in Mississippi. He was with his friends and cousin and was telling
them that he has a white girlfriend back at home. His friends did not believe him and dared him to go
into the store they were all by and go up to a white woman woman behind a counter and ask her to go
on a date with him. He was heard by his friends saying bye baby while walking out the store.
According to history.com It states that Emmett bragged that his girlfriend back at home was white.
Emmett s African American companions, disbelieving him, dared Emmett to ask the white woman
sitting behind the counter for a date. He went in. Bought some candy, and on the way out was heard
saying, Bye, Baby to the woman. The woman behind the counter accused Emmett of grabbing her and

Comparing The Road Less Traveled And The Road Not Taken
The song by Lauren Alaina, Road Less Traveled is connected to the poem The Road Not Taken
written by Robert Frost. The poem and the songs are connected through the words and how they are
represented. Both songs are speaking about taking the road that would not get traveled on as much.
Within the poem and the song, I found four connections to each other. The first connection in The
Road Not Taken was And be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where
it bent in the undergrowth . This was connected to the line in the song Why do you keep on staring? .
They are connected because the man in the poem is standing in front of both of the paths staring at
them trying to decide which one he should go down. The second connection was in The Road Not
Taken in the lines where the man says, Because it was grassy and ... Show more content on

These are connected by the concept of the path having not been traveled on, and by walking on it will

on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back . These lines are connected to the song when she says
So don t hold back and just run it because the man in the poem is hesitating if he should continue to
take the less traveled road or the other one that was almost the same. Lauren Alaina is telling people to
not be afraid and keep going on in life, just as he does in the poem. The fourth and final connection
between the poem and the song are when Robert Frost wrote, I took the one less traveled by, and that
has made all the difference . In Lauren Alaina s song Road Less Traveled the connection is Don t be
afraid, take the road less traveled . They are connected because in the end they both are talking about

What Is The Impact Of Foraging Mode A Snake
This essay is about the impacts of foraging mode on the morphology, physiology and ecology of
snakes. But before exploring the impacts, need to understand how or why snakes select particular
habitats, be it a desert, grassland, rainforest, aquatic, etc. whether active during the day or night is also
important. The reason is foraging mode (food that an animal eat and the way it obtains it) is central to
their ecology.
It is important to note that snakes have undergone adaptive measures since their origin. They have
diversified into large number of species occupying large ecological habitat. The driving and limiting

Essay about Brent Staples A Brothers Murder
Brent Staples A Brother s Murder
A belief I feel very strongly about proposes that all problems faced by our society have solutions. If
this belief is true, why do problems still face us today? The answer could be a result of either laziness
by the people in our society in finding these solutions or just the fact that there are too many problems
to solve. Maybe this belief I have is too far out of reach to be true.
On the other hand, Brent Staples, a well respected writer, seems to share this idea with me. In his
works, he displays a great deal of motivation to solve particular problems faced by society. In quot;A

In most other parts of the country, you can have an argument with one of your best friends and not get
killed over it. Blake was shot six time s by a good friend over an argument about a former girlfriend.
Brent Staples grew up in the same type of atmosphere as his little brother Blake. As Staples explains
in paragraph four of quot;A Brother s Murder, quot; he chose a different lifestyle. He disagreed with
the childish attitude of the death ridden people on his street. He chose a path of going to college and
leading a successful career. He was lucky enough and smart enough to leave those streets.
quot;Upwardly mobile quot; was how Brent put it. In Blake s lifestyle moving up means killing more
people to gain social standing within his gang.
Brent took a trip to his brother s home to intervene with his situation.
What he saw was someone taken over by life on the streets. He was obsessed by this lifestyle of
teetering between life and death, because that was all for which he had to live. This was clear on the

The Catholic Views Of The Roman Catholic Church
The Roman Catholic Church has consistently condemned abortion the direct and purposeful taking of
the life of the unborn child. In principle, Catholic Christians believe that all life is sacred from
conception until natural death, and the taking of innocent human life, whether born or unborn, is
morally wrong. The Church teaches, Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the
creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole
end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance
claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being ( Donum vitae, 5).
The respect for the sacredness of life in the womb originates in Christianity s Jewish roots. The
ancient Jewish world was much different from the surrounding cultures of Palestine where infanticide,
infant sacrifice and abortion were not uncommon, and in some cases prevalent. For the Jewish people
of those times and orthodox Jews to this day, all human life has as its author the one God whose
creative power produces the child in the mother s womb and brings it step by step to full life. The Old
Testament revelation, which the Church inherited and accepted, gives clear evidence that life in the
womb was considered as sacred. Moses proclaimed, When you hearken to the voice of the Lord, your
God, all these blessings will come upon you and overwhelm you: May you be blessed in the city,

Construction Of The Condominium Association V Vistal Land...

created a new reversion process to eliminate need not be built units after the expiration of the six (6)
year or ten (10) year statutory time periods. Newly created MCL 559.167(4) now requires 2/3 of the
co owners that are in good standing to vote to approve a reversion of need not be built units to
common elements by adopting a declaration that will be recorded in the register of deeds after the
expiration of the statutory time periods. If 2/3 co owner approval is obtained, the condominium
association must then send the declaration to a developer or successor developer at its last known
address. The developer or successor developer may withdraw the land on which the units were to be
located or amend the master deed to make the units must be built within the sixty (60) day time
period. If the developer or successor developer fails to withdraw the land or amend the master deed
within sixty (60) days, the condominium association may record the declaration, which becomes
effective upon recording and the right to construct the need not be built units will be eliminated.

What Was The Causes Of Rwanda Genocide
One horrific, though often overlooked, genocide took place in Rwanda, Africa from April to July
1994. The tiny, landlocked country saw mass killings and state sponsored hatred of the Tutsi people by
the Hutu. Rwanda was divided into three major clans the Tutsi, which made up about 15% of the
population and were the paler group favored by the English and Belgian colonists, and therefore were
originally chosen to rule the country after the European takeover. This greatly angered the Hutus,
about 84% of the population, (the Twa, the third group, were only 1% of Rwandans, didn t have much
to do with the genocide), so they were eventually given the ability to gain professional political
positions as well, a right that had been taken away with the

Bringing Back the Big Guns A Star Wars: The Force Awakens Analysis
It s true the Force, the Jedi, all of it. It s all true (Harrison Ford, The Force Awakens). The new Star
Wars flick The Force Awakens burst onto the big screen with enormous critical and monetary success
this past winter, and it seems that the franchise has truly been revived from the overall upsets of the
prequels back to its epic roots in pop culture. But does the movie really hold up compared to the
original trilogy? Indeed, the film shines through its engaging plot, important themes and flawless
technique.
The Force Awakens is very similar in plot to A New Hope, but there are plenty of interesting twists.
The movie starts off on the desert planet of Jakku. Poe, a rebel fighter, is taken into custody by the big
bad of the film Kylo Ren. However, Finn, one of the First Order s stormtroopers, helps him to escape
Ren s ship and they crash land on Jakku. With Poe seemingly killed in the crash, Finn wanders into
town and meets our main heroine, Rey, who is a scavenger fending for herself on Jakku. Rey has
found a BB 8 droid belonging to Poe and the Rebel Alliance with a map piece leading to the missing
Jedi Luke Skywalker. Finn lies to Rey about being a rebel fighter to escape Jakku with her. On their
journey towards the Rebel Alliance, the two encounter friends and foes alike, and Rey ends up
captured by Ren due to her awakened Force powers. With the help of the

Indentured Servants In America
Indentured servants were people who came over to the southern colonies in America from Britain
were bound to a contract to work off their debt overseas. The women who came over as indentured
servants were often convicted of crimes back in England or came from poor families, either way these
women hoped to create a new life for themselves after working off their debts. A large portion, about
three fourths of the women who came over from Britain to the Southern Colonies during the
seventeenth century, were indentured servants (Dubois, ch.2 p.51).
Most women who decided to travel to the new world as an indentured servant knew there would

Social Norms In The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle
In the excerpt from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle , Smollett does an excellent job conveying the
social norms of 1751. The passage is driven by mockery and disrespect, yet neither man will let the
tension ruin their reputation. While both men show signs of anger and disrespect, neither one directly
insults the other. As Pickle is confronted about the nature of his and Emilia, he becomes angry. Yet,
Gauntlet had no intentions of offending him. As their conversation continues, the tensions rise and
both men start to let their emotions control them. The tone of the passage changes immediately from
curiosity, to anger, as Gauntlet expresses to Pickle I should know the nature of it , this is where
everything starts to build. Gauntlet s tone throughout the passage is almost one of irritation, he seems
as if he is irritated by the way Pickle responded to him. Pickle immediately comes off snooty and
arrogant as if he owes nothing to Gauntlet. The narrator remains calm and relaxed throughout and
does not seem surprised when Gauntlet challenges Pickle to a sword fight to settle their dispute. Social

Heraclitus once stated, Change is the only constant in life. Since everything is eventually going to
change, it is incorrect to assume that societal values, such as the GenMe s value of self esteem, will be
fixated in the society for the future generations. In Ethan Watters The Mega Marketing of Depression

In order to change for improvement, a person needs to cultivate self awareness. It is important to
understand that when people introduce ideas to others, there is an underlying sense of selfishness
motivating this action. While GenMe can reverse its course, it would be better for GenMe to change
completely as that would allow for GenMe to not be selfish, like the Boomers. When the Boomers
proposed ideas to GenMe, GenMe accepted the ideas due to lack of self control over his or her brain.
The way for GenMe to become better individuals lies in cultivating self awareness, which will allow
GenMe to improve on its weaknesses, envision how certain decisions can affect one, and become less
self interested. However, due to societal norms and the way in which the brain works, one can tend to
believe that self awareness can decrease self absorbance and hurt one s own image of self worth,
which is not true. Hence, it can be tough for one to accept his or her weaknesses. While the key for
cultivating self awareness depends on an individual s will, it also depends on the society. It is evident
that it is time for everyone to become positive, eventually leading to a better future for GenMe and the

Analysis Of The Video Game Console Market Essay
Five Forces Analysis
Threat of New Entry When it comes to entering the video game console market there are a lot of costs
that are incurred. This limits the amount of competition that is coming in from an outside source.
Microsoft spent over 100 million dollars on research and development alone for the Xbox one
controller (Ron, 2013). This is a huge cost that new companies usually cannot absorb when first
starting out. There is also a huge cost difference from new producers and long standing producers due
to experience and the economies of scale that the top companies have. The last factor that really deters
companies from entering the console game is the fierce brand loyalty that inhabits the video game
market. Most consumers once they pick a side stick to it, this can span as far back as childhood. On
release the PlayStation 4 had better specs then the Xbox One, and yet 42% of previous Xbox owners
choose the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4 (Sakraida, 2014).
Competition
In the gaming industry competition comes from every direction. The most commonly thought of
outside sources of competition are the PC industry and mobile gaming industry. The television movie
and television industry are also competing to fill the entertainment void in people s lives. That being
said the competition we will be looking at is between the top two producers of gaming consoles, Sony
and Microsoft. Sony and Microsoft with their PlayStation and Xbox consoles respectively have very

Murder, Manslaughter, And Justifiable Homicide
In the United States the degrees by which a person can be charged with killing another person vary;
the degrees of murder include first, second, and third degree murder, the definitions of which can vary
in legal terms from state to state. These charges are considered to be legally separate from voluntary
manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and justifiable homicide which each have their own
definitions (Cole, Smith, DeJong, 2014). Each type of murder, manslaughter and homicide is
determined by intent and negligible behavior and each will be examined in this paper (Cole et al.,
2014).
Murder
First Degree Murder
Murder has not always been defined by degrees by which the act took place, before the separation
began, murder of any type was a capital offense punishable by death. The state of Pennsylvania in
1793 was the first state to legally distinguish different degrees of murder, possibly to reduce the
amount of murders that resulted in capital punishment (Levinson, 2002). In most states today, first
degree murder is commonly defined as the unlawful, willing, and premeditated murder of another
human being committed with malice aforethought, which is used to indicate a person intended to kill
another person (Berman, n.d.). All states approach murder charges with variations on the same basic
principle, intent.
Second Degree Murder
Like all degrees of murder, second degree murder varies from state to state however in general terms it
is referred to as the unlawful killing

Critique Of The Great Divorce
Critique of The Great Divorce The Great Divorce is a wonderful work of literature written by C.S.
Lewis about a mans trip on a bus to heaven and an understanding of eternity written form a first
person perspective. It starts out with this man getting on a bus with several other people on it; to his
surprise the bus begins to fly. After a while in flight the bus begins to descend, and the trees that were
once figures far below him begin to get closer and closer until finally he lands on a completely
different plant than Earth. One of the first things that he realizes when he, and the others, step off the
bus is that the people who he road there with, who were once full figured, regular looking people, had
now become ghost; man stains on the brightness of that air, as he puts. One of the first things that he
notices is that the grass and the flowers do not brake when he steps on them they just wave through
him. He bends down to attempt to break a blade of grass with the result only ending up in total failure
after putting all his strength into it. As they were standing there, all of a sudden spirits (solid people)
came out of the distance and ran up to them. Some of the people that accompanied them ran back on
the bus while other, including him, stayed. For the next few chapters it is basically him eavesdropping
on conversations between the ghost, and the spirits. The first conversation is between two people that
clearly knew each other on earth. The spirit had been a

Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome)

Empires
Persia Rome
The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a civilization s
social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an empire that has
aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be compared between Persia
and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the administration, the impact on
those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the decline of each empire. When
combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of ancient Rome and Persia. Both
empires began with conquering larger rulers and creating vast empires which had never been seen ...

Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration made up
of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian Empire was
generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created more cities and
more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more money as the empire grew.
The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core
empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to
claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians
(Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for
the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to
have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they
are less likely to challenge their rulers. Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological
diversity. They did not try to force Persian culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the
Persians just wanted to have the right to tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids,
Parthians, and Sasanids also advocated this policy. Although this policy worked quite well in allowing
for fluid execution of ruling,

values now which are unnecessary compared to our ancestor s dreams. They wish for things we take

The Vampire Effect Of Dracula
Not many people would think that they can be compared to Count Dracula. Considered to be one of
the most well known monsters of all time, Count Dracula sucks the blood of his victims, which would
ultimately lead to their death. While this seems like a very unique example, it can be applied to nearly
every person, specifically in the college stetting. This phenomenon that can be linked to this monster
is called the vampire effect. First used in the book ______, this term refers to the what happens in
social groups due to different personality types that were caused by a difference in economic
background. Set in a college dormitory, chapter 4 of the book discusses how there is a difference in the
social lives of students who are quiet versus students who are more outgoing. Students who were shy
were generally ignored and did not seem to partake in many social activities. While Armstrong and
Hamilton suggest that the Vampire Effect arises due to the social students knowingly ignoring and
rejecting the shyer students, that is not the case. The cycle through which the effect takes place starts
with self comparison due to economic status, envy, and self blame, and results in anxiety and self
isolation. Although this is done unintentionally, consciously known factors such debt and class also
play a role in the process.
As Armstrong and Hamilton describe the social isolates , Others treated the quieter roommate as sort
of a sidekick or an invisible appendage (105).

Several hundred Soviet, nuclear tipped, ballistic missiles streak towards the United States without any
form of opposition or challenge to their impeding destruction. The result of a situation like this would

Mechanical And Chemical Digestion Of The Digestive System
Digestion is the process of breaking larger food particles into smaller particles that can pass through
the plasma membrane. The digestive system is in charge of this process. To begin, the mouth receives
food, breaking it into smaller particles by chewing, a form of mechanical digestion with the teeth, for
absorption. The tongue aids in this process of chewing and swallowing as a muscular organ.
Additionally, the salivary glands in the mouth secrete saliva to help lubricate the food and begin
chemical digestion with its digestive enzyme, salivary amylase. Also aiding in chemical digestion in
the mouth is mucin. When in the mouth, salivary mucins functions as a protective layer.
Once formed into a small rounded mass, called a bolus, the food passes through a sphincter, a
muscular ring that regulates the size of an opening, and enters the esophagus, a muscular tube leading
to the stomach. No additional digestion occurs here. For the food to travel, it is lubricated with mucus
and moved by peristalsis into the stomach. At the end of the esophagus, at the opening to the stomach,
is a sphincter. Once in the stomach, a J shaped organ in the upper left region of the abdominal cavity,
the food goes through additional mechanical and chemical digestion. The churning action of the
stomach muscles physically breaks down the food while the acids and enzymes released help
breakdown the nutrients. Hydrochloric acid, a strong acid, helps break down protein and destroy

  • 2. Silent Spring Thesis Silent Spring(essay) Rachel Carson s Silent Spring changed the people s views regarding the use of toxic materials that continues to destroy our environment. She is clearly optimistic to encourage every citizens to participate on using more efficient, yet simple strategies to regenerate our natural resources and ecosystems. Although the book calls for a better use of chemicals, some people disapprove and attacked it as misrepresenting science. It was written in 1958, Carson says that her own bitter experience brought her attention to write a book concerning the problems our nature is facing. It took her four years to make the book, and though she is a great writer, some magazine publishers turned her down. These publishers feared that they might lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was mentioned in these lines, The town lay in the midst of a checkerboard of prosperous farms, with fields of grain and hillsides of orchards where, in spring, white clouds of bloom drifted above the green field. In autumn, oak and maple and birch set up blaze of color that flamed and flickered across a backdrop of pines. Then foxes barked in the hills and deer silently crossed the fields, half hidden in the midst of the fall mornings. Unfortunately, this beauty didn t last long, Carson began to tell how we are destroying nature by polluting it, Carson says, Then a strange blight crept over the area and everything began to change. Some evil spell had settled on the community: mysterious maladies swept the flocks of chickens; the cattle and sheep sickened and died. The evil spell she was referring to was a symbol for pollution. Carson also said that, there were change, a change that affected our environment negatively. These changes involves the depth of our animals, and probably, the cause of their death of our own animals were pesticides, used to spray into the plants that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Egalitarian Model Of Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Narcotics Anonymous, or NA, is a twelve step program much like the more popular Alcoholics Anonymous. NA maintains that all members of the group are important in the unity of the group and that in no way does one individual rule over another. As a person in recovery and member of NA I have learned, through literature, meetings, and my sponsor, that NA is built upon an egalitarian model. A study done by Jeffrey K. Snyder and Daniel M. Fessler has determined that NA is an egalitarian organization that is unique in that brings into stark relief the conflict between egalitarianism and the social dynamics of knowledge transmission. By this Snyder and Fessler mean that because of the process that keeps addicts clean is based on gaining knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is true and has personally worked in my life through attending meetings and fellowshipping, or hanging out with other recovering addicts. Meetings themselves, as Snyder and Fessler explain, have strong norms governing participation (cf. Ma ̈kela ̈ et al. 1996 regarding AA): turn taking is cardinal, individuals should only speak about themselves, individuals should not directly contradict previous speakers statements, nor should direct advice be offered, and members should not endorse outside entities. Snyder and Fessler go on to conclude that the layouts of NA meetings are overtly egalitarian. Additionally, they find that although these meetings function and operate as egalitarian, the members themselves rely on mutualistic relationships in which NA orthodoxy holds that the characteristics of the addict are such as to necessitate egalitarianism if addicts are to help one another in mutualistic interactions. For members of NA, this means that the egalitarian model works because members are willing to be apart of the relationships that are essential to their recovery. Within these meetings and fellowshipping opportunities, members with a substantial amount of clean time who are very knowledgeable of the Basic Text, Twelve Steps, and Twelve Traditions of NA, tend to dish out their opinions and suggestions about another addicts situation with a sense of having more wisdom. This type of knowledge sharing makes sense personally because, if one buys into the literature and has success in the program, the Basic Texas describes that a more experienced person in recovery is the key to a newcomer s abstinence. It only makes sense to surround you with someone else who knows what it feels like to be in early recovery or trying to get clean. So, this egalitarian model, in addition to the mutualistic relationships that are essential to a person s recovery, works perfectly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Causes Of Water Logging In Dhaka WATER LOGGING PROBLEM AND DRAINAGE IN DHAKA IN RECENT years Dhaka City has been facing extensive water logging, especially, during the monsoon. Even without climate change, likely damage from waterlogging in Dhaka by 2050 is Taka 11,000 crore. In a changing climate with more intense rainfalls, the loss will be Taka 139,000 crores between 2014 and 2050. These damages can be reduced significantly to Taka 3,700 crores, if Taka 270 crores investment is made. The amount Taka 270 crores is equivalent to only 0.35 percent of the government s annual development budget expenditure for 2014 2015.(World Bank,2015).Problems that occur in the city are increase in water pollution, traffic congestion, air and noise pollution, solid waste disposal, black smoke etc. Inadequate drainage sections, conventional drainage system with low capacity and gravity, natural siltation, absence of inlets and outlets, indefinite drainage outlets, lack of proper maintenance of existing drainage system, and over and above disposal of solid waste into the drains and drainage paths are accounted for the prime causes of blockage in drainage system and water logging. During the last 25 years or so rapid uncontrolled urbanization has taken place in its capital city Dhaka. Substantial increase in built up areas has taken place due to insensitive developments of areas through private land developers and real estate business (Tawhid, 2004). The city has experienced water logging for last couple of years which creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Battle Of The Punic Wars Joel Medero History Western Civilization Professor Smail THE PUNIC WARS During the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C., three wars were fought between Rome and Carthage. The name given to describe the wars Punic, is a divided word from the Latin and Greek words for Phoenician. The city of Carthage, situated in what is now Tunisia in North Africa, was founded in 814 B.C. by the Phoenicians. The first two wars were the longest 23 years and 17 years, separated by an interval of 23 years. The last and third war lasted only three years. It started 52 years after the end of the second Punic War. All three wars were won by Rome, which automatically emerged as the greatest military power in the Mediterranean Sea. The hostility of Carthage impelled Rome to build up its large army and create a strong navy just like the one Carthage had. Strong military leaders of the war for Carthage and his sons Hasdrubal and Hannibal. Rome s outstanding leaders were Scipio Africanus. • 7. Church Visit Response Essay Church Visit Response Essay I grew up going to Catholic Church my whole life. I have completed all my sacraments and attended 11 years of catechism. I am very comfortable in a Catholic Church and feel very at ease with the atmosphere and rituals performed in a Catholic church. The only time I have ever stepped foot in a church that was not Catholic has only been for a wake or a wedding. So when it comes to experiencing different kinds of cultural and religious practices, I am very naïve. Catholic mass is very quiet and serene. We sing the same hymns and keep the decibels very low. Mass always follows the same pattern and it is very structured. Although I feel connected to the Catholic Church, I have stopped attending on a regular basis as I have gotten older. I feel that I have stopped attending because I would often leave church not feeling fulfilled. I have a friend who has been inviting to her church for a few years. I took this essay as an opportunity to finally attend. I visited Celebration Church on Easter Sunday 2016. Given that it was a special Christian holiday, the church was incredibly crowded. They had numerous children activities taking place in the parking lot. The church volunteers that helped me find a parking and greeted me as I walked through the door were extremely friendly. I am not trying to sound cynical, but they were almost too friendly. This was the first thing I noticed that set this church apart from what I have previously experienced. In fact ... • 8. Give It Away Analysis Give it Away : Life Lessons from Nina Hagen The Red Hot Chili Peppers, formerly known as Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, are a funk and punk rock band that was founded in 1983. Although the members have changed numerous times during their almost 35 year span of success, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been known to be provocative at performances and frequently utilize sexual innuendos in both lyrics and music videos. This is simply part of who they are as a band. Consequently, fans can be blinded by the energy and upbeat instruments to the extent that they may miss what is being said in the lyrics. This is certainly the case in the Red Hot Chili Peppers 1991 hit song, Give It Away. Fans may think that lead singer Anthony Kiedis is talking about sex when he repeats, What I ve got you ve got to get it put it in you, but he is referring to giving away material belongings as the primary message (Red Hot Chili Peppers, l. 5). It is easy to get caught up in the exuberance of the band during a performance and miss the key lyrics that give a song s meaning away. The refrain is a key giveaway for the true meaning of Give It Away. Kiedis repeats, Give it away give it away give it away give it away now numerous times throughout the song (l. 13). The Riot On Racism And White Supremacy Essay In the year 1898 in the town of Wilmington, North Carolina a riot occurred between the African American inhabitants and the white minority of the city. Several historians accuse the origin of the riot on racism and white supremacy. Although these two beliefs have been around for countless years, and African Americans received the right to vote almost thirty years prior, no demonstration nor aggressive threats, to the point in which was seen in 1898, had occurred in Wilmington until that year. The Wilmington Race Riot was the reaction of the sociopolitical conditions that were being applied by the Democratic Party to win the election through a sequence of diabolical campaign tactics just like creating partial accusations about the negroes of the town thus, creating unconstitutional practices, and threatening their existence. The African American population had acquired notable ranks prior to the revolt, such as mayors, firemen, City Hall janitors, positions on the Board of Aldermen, etc. Black and white neighbors resided amongst each other. This was considered normal in Wilmington unlike any other place in North Carolina up until the Republican Party won the election of 1894 . This shift in wealth is seen in the deregulation of energy. What is energy? Energy can be described multiple ways but for the purposes of deregulation, energy is defined as power that is transferred from the environment and converted into electricity and gas to be used for electricity and heating. How does it work? Local utility companies own the grids that bring power to buildings. Prior to the new regulations, they would buy the gas and/or electricity from a source that produces for an undisclosed price, provide the building energy, then charge the responsible party for that energy. Considering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With deregulation, consumers are now allowed to pick who the utility company purchases energy from. Competition within any industry drives prices down which means savings for the consumer and a more level playing field for up and coming producers. How does this translate into wealth transferring? These unknown companies that produce energy need help with marketing. A lot of them have positioned themselves with direct sales companies to do this instead of spending large amounts of money on an advertisements and employees specializing in sales. The direct sales associates will acquire customers for the companies and in return, the companies pay a commission on the monthly bill from the consumer. Essay about Refuting Objections to Direct Realism Refuting Objections to Direct Realism Introduction Realism is the form of perception in which it is believed that there is an external world outside of our own minds. It is the belief that regardless of what we may belief is true of false, the external world is independent of these beliefs. There are two forms of realism which are direct and indirect. In this essay I will argue that direct realism is a more plausible theory of perception than indirect realism by refuting the main arguments against direct realism. I will begin by briefly describing direct and indirect realism and follow with countering two of the main arguments indirect realists use against direct realists. Direct Realism vs. Indirect Realism Direct Realism is the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... P3: It is not possible to perceive all of an object at once, only a section of its exterior surface. C: We do not directly perceive material objects and therefore direct realism is false. The issue with this argument lies within the second premise which claims that in order to perceive an object, all parts must be observed at once. This claim is invalid as perceiving an object does not require all parts to be observed as once just as reading a book does not require all pages to be read at once or visiting friends does not require all friends to be visited at once. In the direct perception of an object we do not see the whole object, however only a section. It is correct that we may not recognise or identify the object we are perceiving, however it is not true that in doing this we are not in fact directly perceiving the section of the object exposed for observation. There is no reason to assume that direct perception does not occur unless every angle and layer of the object in question is observed and therefore the partial character of perception argument is invalid. The Argument from Hallucination A second argument against direct realism, which is most commonly used, is the argument from hallucination, as follows ; P1: Tom sees a green tree P2: Tom is hallucinating there is no green tree P3: The tree that Tom sees is not an external material object P4: The hallucination is extremely detailed and exactly resembles, is identical to, a true ... • 21. The Catholic Views Of The Roman Catholic Church The Roman Catholic Church has consistently condemned abortion the direct and purposeful taking of the life of the unborn child. In principle, Catholic Christians believe that all life is sacred from conception until natural death, and the taking of innocent human life, whether born or unborn, is morally wrong. The Church teaches, Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the Creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being ( Donum vitae, 5). The respect for the sacredness of life in the womb originates in Christianity s Jewish roots. The ancient Jewish world was much different from the surrounding cultures of Palestine where infanticide, infant sacrifice and abortion were not uncommon, and in some cases prevalent. For the Jewish people of those times and orthodox Jews to this day, all human life has as its author the one God whose creative power produces the child in the mother s womb and brings it step by step to full life. The Old Testament revelation, which the Church inherited and accepted, gives clear evidence that life in the womb was considered as sacred. The women who obtained the status of feme sole and exercised their rights could manage their small landholdings, make contracts, and appear in court to reclaim debts as seen through the works of Margret Brent (Dubois, ch.2 ... • 27. Social Norms In The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle In the excerpt from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle , Smollett does an excellent job conveying the social norms of 1751. The passage is driven by mockery and disrespect, yet neither man will let the tension ruin their reputation. While both men show signs of anger and disrespect, neither one directly insults the other. As Pickle is confronted about the nature of his and Emilia, he becomes angry. Yet, Gauntlet had no intentions of offending him. As their conversation continues, the tensions rise and both men start to let their emotions control them. The tone of the passage changes immediately from curiosity, to anger, as Gauntlet expresses to Pickle I should know the nature of it , this is where everything starts to build. Gauntlet s tone throughout the passage is almost one of irritation, he seems as if he is irritated by the way Pickle responded to him. Pickle immediately comes off snooty and arrogant as if he owes nothing to Gauntlet. The narrator remains calm and relaxed throughout and does not seem surprised when Gauntlet challenges Pickle to a sword fight to settle their dispute. Social norms of the 1950 s was displayed well by the way there narrator kept their calm tone throughout the fight, making it clear that behavior as such was ... Since everything is eventually going to change, it is incorrect to assume that societal values, such as the GenMe s value of self esteem, will be fixated in the society for the future generations. In Ethan Watters The Mega Marketing of Depression in Japan, Watters demonstrates the idea of how capitalism and advertisements make one selfish and exploit the idea of happiness. It is important to understand that when people introduce ideas to others, there is an underlying sense of selfishness motivating this action. While GenMe can reverse its course, it would be better for GenMe to change completely as that would allow for GenMe to not be selfish, like the Boomers. When the Boomers proposed ideas to GenMe, GenMe accepted the ideas due to lack of self control over his or her brain. The way for GenMe to become better individuals lies in cultivating self awareness, which will allow GenMe to improve on its weaknesses, envision how certain decisions can affect one, and become less self interested. However, due to societal norms and the way in which the brain works, one can tend to believe that self awareness can decrease self absorbance and hurt one s own image of self worth, which is not true. Hence, it can be tough for one to accept his or her weaknesses. While the key for cultivating self awareness depends on an individual s will, it also depends on the society. Soon after venturing out Axl and Beatrice discover the cause of their amnesia: the breath of the she dragon Querig, and without hesitations swear to slay the creature. However, while the restoration of Axl and Beatrice s lost memories would positively affect our main characters, turmoil would undoubtedly break out on a more large scale scope. • 31. Analysis Of The Video Game Console Market Essay Five Forces Analysis Threat of New Entry When it comes to entering the video game console market there are a lot of costs that are incurred. This limits the amount of competition that is coming in from an outside source. Microsoft spent over 100 million dollars on research and development alone for the Xbox one controller (Ron, 2013). This is a huge cost that new companies usually cannot absorb when first starting out. There is also a huge cost difference from new producers and long standing producers due to experience and the economies of scale that the top companies have. The last factor that really deters companies from entering the console game is the fierce brand loyalty that inhabits the video game market. Most consumers once they pick a side stick to it, this can span as far back as childhood. On release the PlayStation 4 had better specs then the Xbox One, and yet 42% of previous Xbox owners choose the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4 (Sakraida, 2014). Competition In the gaming industry competition comes from every direction. The most commonly thought of outside sources of competition are the PC industry and mobile gaming industry. The television movie and television industry are also competing to fill the entertainment void in people s lives. That being said the competition we will be looking at is between the top two producers of gaming consoles, Sony and Microsoft. • 32. Murder, Manslaughter, And Justifiable Homicide In the United States the degrees by which a person can be charged with killing another person vary; the degrees of murder include first, second, and third degree murder, the definitions of which can vary in legal terms from state to state. These charges are considered to be legally separate from voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, and justifiable homicide which each have their own definitions (Cole, Smith, DeJong, 2014). Each type of murder, manslaughter and homicide is determined by intent and negligible behavior and each will be examined in this paper (Cole et al., 2014). Murder First Degree Murder Murder has not always been defined by degrees by which the act took place, before the separation began, murder of any type was a capital offense punishable by death. The state of Pennsylvania in 1793 was the first state to legally distinguish different degrees of murder, possibly to reduce the amount of murders that resulted in capital punishment (Levinson, 2002). In most states today, first degree murder is commonly defined as the unlawful, willing, and premeditated murder of another human being committed with malice aforethought, which is used to indicate a person intended to kill another person (Berman, n.d.). All states approach murder charges with variations on the same basic principle, intent. Second Degree Murder Like all degrees of murder, second degree murder varies from state to state however in general terms it is referred to as the unlawful killing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Critique Of The Great Divorce Critique of The Great Divorce The Great Divorce is a wonderful work of literature written by C.S. Lewis about a mans trip on a bus to heaven and an understanding of eternity written form a first person perspective. It starts out with this man getting on a bus with several other people on it; to his surprise the bus begins to fly. After a while in flight the bus begins to descend, and the trees that were once figures far below him begin to get closer and closer until finally he lands on a completely different plant than Earth. One of the first things that he realizes when he, and the others, step off the bus is that the people who he road there with, who were once full figured, regular looking people, had now become ghost; man stains on the brightness of that air, as he puts. One of the first things that he notices is that the grass and the flowers do not brake when he steps on them they just wave through him. He bends down to attempt to break a blade of grass with the result only ending up in total failure after putting all his strength into it. As they were standing there, all of a sudden spirits (solid people) came out of the distance and ran up to them. Some of the people that accompanied them ran back on the bus while other, including him, stayed. For the next few chapters it is basically him eavesdropping on conversations between the ghost, and the spirits. The first conversation is between two people that clearly knew each other on earth. The aspects that will be compared between Persia and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the administration, the impact on those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the decline of each empire. Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration made up of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian Empire was generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created more cities and more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more money as the empire grew. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians (Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they are less likely to challenge their rulers. Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological diversity. They did not try to force Persian culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the Persians just wanted to have the right to tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids, Parthians, and Sasanids also advocated this policy. Considered to be one of the most well known monsters of all time, Count Dracula sucks the blood of his victims, which would ultimately lead to their death. While this seems like a very unique example, it can be applied to nearly every person, specifically in the college stetting. This phenomenon that can be linked to this monster is called the vampire effect. First used in the book ______, this term refers to the what happens in social groups due to different personality types that were caused by a difference in economic background. Set in a college dormitory, chapter 4 of the book discusses how there is a difference in the social lives of students who are quiet versus students who are more outgoing. Students who were shy were generally ignored and did not seem to partake in many social activities. While Armstrong and Hamilton suggest that the Vampire Effect arises due to the social students knowingly ignoring and rejecting the shyer students, that is not the case. The cycle through which the effect takes place starts with self comparison due to economic status, envy, and self blame, and results in anxiety and self isolation. Although this is done unintentionally, consciously known factors such debt and class also play a role in the process. As Armstrong and Hamilton describe the social isolates , Others treated the quieter roommate as sort of a sidekick or an invisible appendage (105). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Mechanical And Chemical Digestion Of The Digestive System Digestion is the process of breaking larger food particles into smaller particles that can pass through the plasma membrane. The digestive system is in charge of this process. To begin, the mouth receives food, breaking it into smaller particles by chewing, a form of mechanical digestion with the teeth, for absorption. The tongue aids in this process of chewing and swallowing as a muscular organ. Additionally, the salivary glands in the mouth secrete saliva to help lubricate the food and begin chemical digestion with its digestive enzyme, salivary amylase. Also aiding in chemical digestion in the mouth is mucin. When in the mouth, salivary mucins functions as a protective layer. Once formed into a small rounded mass, called a bolus, the food passes through a sphincter, a muscular ring that regulates the size of an opening, and enters the esophagus, a muscular tube leading to the stomach. No additional digestion occurs here. For the food to travel, it is lubricated with mucus and moved by peristalsis into the stomach. At the end of the esophagus, at the opening to the stomach, is a sphincter. Once in the stomach, a J shaped organ in the upper left region of the abdominal cavity, the food goes through additional mechanical and chemical digestion. The churning action of the stomach muscles physically breaks down the food while the acids and enzymes released help breakdown the nutrients.
