Political Philosophy Of Liberalism
Liberalism is a political viewpoint that is established on the thoughts of liberty and equality. Thus,
liberalists promote various ideas that are aligned to the concepts of liberty and equality such as
freedom of speech, freedom of religion, gender equality, and civil rights. In general, it can be argued
that the philosophy of liberalism is focused on protecting and promoting the freedom of the people
(Celikates and Jansen). As such, it presents the people as the central issue of politics. In fact,
according to the liberalists, the main function of the government is to protect individuals from being
oppressed by others. Nonetheless, liberalists are also aware that in the process of offering this
protection, the government is also likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are perceived to be weaker than men owing to the independence of men ad ability to control
resources. Tim look sees liberalism as an impediment to social communism owing to the fact that it
fosters individualism and independence of a person. It challenges the ability of an individual to make
informed choices and reveals the benefits of fostering communism to realize socio economic and
political excellence.
3. What is neoliberalism (you get a sense of neoliberalism in David Harvey, Elizabeth Povinelli,
Michel Foucault, and Wendy Brown s work)? What critiques of neoliberalism do Harvey, Povinelli,
and Brown offer? Neoliberalism refers to a perspective that sees mall time as working time. It
encourages people to participate in socio economic activities at all the time in a bid to realizing the
desired development. It plays an essential role in empowering the people to remain committed to
realizing success in life by engaging them to work at all the times (Harvey 44). It does not
acknowledge the significance of leisure in the socio economic development of an individual. Critics of
neoliberalism are against the fact that a person solely focuses on realizing success at the expense of
their wellbeing. It is of the essence for a person to allocate adequate time for rest and leisure to realize
the desired socio economic success (Harvey 47). Although the critics of neoliberalism are not against
working, they are against the non stop working of the

Why Is Creon Wrong
In the play Antigone written by Sophocles, many issues come to light regarding morality and virtue.
While there may be many interpretations regarding whether Antigone is correct in her views or Creon
is, the German philosopher Hegel argues that both are right to some extent. When the argument is
analyzed from both point of views it is evident that they both have some moral reasoning leading to
both cases being correct; however, since neither side is willing to put themselves in the other persons
shoes to have a clearer view of the situation, it causes Creon and Antigone to be wrong at the same
time. Both Antigone s and Creon s judgement is clouded because of their inability to understand the
argument from the other person s point of view, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is slavery, while once it was seen as a way to help build a life and steady income in
America, now it is recognized as reprehensible and immoral. In contrast, if Antigone is in the right it
would mean that any person can simply question which laws they choose to follow in the system
according to the religious beliefs they have.
Overall, this tragedy could have easily been avoided if both Antigone and Creon chose to compromise
their situation. Although it would have been difficult because they are at opposites sides of the
spectrum, they could have easily came to an agreement in the situation which would have led all the
members to be happy and to prevent the citizens from thinking that Creon isn t a man of his word or
does give special treatment to others in his

The Blind Man Raymond Carver
Raymond Carver does an excellent job of formulating the overall theme of looking without seeing.
While it is very apparent to the reader that the main character can see physical objects just fine, one
can also see that he clearly has a limit to that sight when it comes to emotional connections. As we
follow the story, we can see the narrator transform and ultimately reach a breakthrough in the end. By
using point of view, character, and symbolism, Carver is able to highlight the theme of the story.
Upon reading the first sentence of this short story This blind man, an old friend of my wife s, he was
on his way to spend the night. (Seagull 61) we can concur that the narrator is speaking in first person
point of view, and is both an observer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is in the comparison of the narrator and Robert that we can truly see the narrator s internal journey.
The fact that he is blind is tremendously significant to the story s underlying meaning. The narrator
has the ability to see everything, and yet Robert this blind man is capable of seeing more. It seems as
if Robert recognizes the narrator s faulty perception when he asks him to describe the cathedral.
Getting him to draw with him allows the narrator to gain insight; something I think Robert knew
would happen when he asked him to close his eyes on page 76. It is through these recognitions that we
can see the narrator s ability to change from an egotistical misogynist who can only perceive physical
sight and value into a man who recognizes things for what they truly

An example of a closed genome is B. anthrasis (Anthrax) Core genomes are the essential genes in all
genomes and is conserved across all pathogenic species; these genes are very often involved in
metabolism and growth. These genomes hardly change because they are central to the microbe and
slight changes may kill the organism. A pan genome is the entire gene pool for that pathogen species,
and includes genes that are not shared by all strains. Pan genomes may be open or closed depending
on whether comparative analysis of multiple strains reveals no new genes (closed) or many new genes
(open) compared to the core genome for that pathogen species. Short stuff: Open genome = C. difficile
= many different isolates and strains. There are large variations between same genus, species (new
genes + core genome). Closed genome = B. anthracis = very, very little variation when different
isolated have been sequenced. Pangenome = all the genes that have ever been sequenced from E. coli.
Also known as microbial Pangaea. All the genes in that genome. Archaea are usually found in what
kind of environments? How does this support Woese s hypothesis for three domains of life? What
does this likely say about early evolution on Earth? They are found in extreme environments
exhibiting extreme temperatures, osmotic pressures, pH, and concentrations of inorganic molecules
(often toxic to other forms of life). This supports Carl Woese in that he posited that if

Developing A Healthy Organizational Culture Essay
Human Resources approach performs an extremely essential function in creating and maintaining
competitive advantage; many organizations disregard the importance of HR in creating competitive
advantage. The three priorities will require a major transformation in the organization. HR strategy
should support the conversion, and help the workforces to acclimatize in a different environment. One
major objective of the innovative HR strategy will be to create a healthy organizational culture that
supports innovation, collaboration, and intercontinental operation. Leadership plays an enormously
important role in developing a healthy organizational culture. (Dessler, 2013) Furthermore, the
innovative HR strategy will provide the workforces a platform where they can express their opinion,
thoughts, recommendations, and perspectives for the conception of a more productive workplace. The
workforces can also share their views on how to create a supportive organizational culture. The
personnel will likewise share their ideas and recommendations on improving processes, cutting
expenditure, reducing waste etc. The Availability of such platform will improve employee satisfaction,
create a sense of ownership, involve employees in decision making, and motivate employees to
achieve their individual as well as organizational objectives. (Dessler, 2013) Additionally, the
modernistic HR strategy will develop a workforce preparation procedure that can determine the

The Importance Of Photosynthesis In Plants
Photosynthesis in plants is one of the most important chemical reactions on the planet. Photosynthesis
is a chemical reaction necessary to sustain all forms of life. Only plants, and some very specialized
animals, called autotrophs are able to turn sunlight into usable chemical energy. Autotrophs turn
inorganic molecules into complex organic molecules through solar or chemical energy. Autotrophs
also have the capacity to store energy, such as carbon compounds which can be passed to other
organisms that consume them. Plants are the base of the flow of energy and therefore a primary
producer.(Miller and Levine, 2014) Other organisms can break down the carbon compounds
consumed through plants and release it through respiration to be used again by plants. This is known
as the carbon cycle. But what makes this happen? In an indoor or laboratory setting, what types of
artificial light can be most efficiently used as a substitute for sunlight?
Plants provide the basis for most food chains. Even the energy consumer came from plants at one
point. Photosynthesis is used to store nutrients and other carbon compounds in plants that are also vital
for many other organisms. Photosynthesis mainly occurs in two stages, the light stage, and the dark
stage. These take place in photosystems I and II. These hold chlorophyll molecules and, when
chlorophyll is struck by a photo of light, an electron becomes energized and water molecules bind. (
Updegraff, 2017). Water is split into hydrogen and

The Ethical and Theological Implications of Human Cloning...
The Ethical and Theological Implications of Human Cloning
Introduction
Advances in science and technology have often caused revolutionary changes in the way society
views the world. When computers were first invented, they were used to calculate ballistics tables;
today they perform a myriad of functions unimagined at their conception. Space travel changed the
way mankind viewed itself in terms of a larger context, the universe. In 1978, the first test tube baby
was born in England making it apparent for the first time that babies could be conceived outside a
mother s womb.
Each of these events caused much commotion, and each advance has presented society with new
challenges; however, no scientific area has been more debated ... Show more content on

In this way, cloning has changed the potentials for reproduction; males could potentially not be
required in the creation of children. It is important to note, however, that cloning of a human has yet to
be accomplished. While it would be naive to say that it will never be done, so far this problem of
biotechnology has been left undone.
The Process of Cloning
Before any discussion about cloning can be started, it is necessary to explain, albeit in a simplified
version, the scientific process that cloning entails.* Every cell in any given organism contains exactly
the same genetic material or DNA. Each human DNA is composed of two pairs of twenty three
chromosomes. In the process of natural reproduction, when an egg and sperm are joined, they fuse to
form a single cell called a zygote that has a new genetic makeup the sperm and the egg each
contributing one set of chromosomes. Thus, the genetic material found in an embryo is a combination
of the DNA from the mother and the father.
When this initial new cell is formed, certain proteins give the signal that it is time for the zygote to
divide and produce exact replicas of itself. From the single cell stage, this division occurs in a
doubling manner so that in a matter of hours there are eight cells present. Until this eight cell stage
occurs, cells are all the same. After that point, however, different cells begin to

The Caliph Harun Al Rashid
Aside from this general emphasis on the value of cleverness and intelligence however, the story of the
Caliph Harun al Rashid and his much exalted qadi Abu Yusuf also highlights an interesting point about
religion and the works to follow or otherwise remain within the confines of certain religious mandates
while simultaneously being able to pursue whatever personal ends one desires. Though the qadi claims
that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur an and the teachings of Islam, the
series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage with the slave girl which
involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male slave in order to divorce them and
avoid the three month period of legal purification (Schroeder, 1955) required for sexual conduct, as
well as ordering the male slave to become the property of the girl in order to annul their marriage
when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own it certainly seems that these actions probably
violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid violation of the letter. The story itself makes a
somewhat humorous and sly mention of this fact towards the end of the tale, confirming that as to the
expiation of the oaths, Abu Yusuf s ruling would hardly be confirmed by jurists of the Shafi i school,
(Schroeder, 1955) but noting that Abu Yusuf treated it in accord with the views of his own, the Hanafi
school. In other words, whether or not the actions of the qadi

Fichte And Noumenon
Through history, philosophers have often relied on assistance to complete or perfect these theories.
The philosophers we will be addressing today are no exception. By that, I mean Kant and Fichte and
their theories of things unknowns and what exactly that makes them
We shall start with a contradiction, a Yin and yang of sorts. By this, I mean noumenon and
phenomenon. You see a phenomenon is anything that is witnessed by the senses certain objects, as
appearances, beings of sense (1) whereas the noumenon is completely unknowable through the senses.
not objects of our senses at all ...beings of understanding. (2) Kant then posits that things we
understand or perceive through our senses are merely representations of the unknown aka the

This is not Descartes ( I think, therefore I am ). (6)Descartes posits that to think is to exist. Fichte s
says that thinking is not the essence of existing but a mode per say. the self cannot be a self without
consciousness but it can be an object or a people without consciousness so it can still exist but not in
the mode of self. On a contradictory note, we will address my personal opinions on Fichte.I believe
that Fichte is an idealist, not a dogmatist this is too because of what he is but more what he isn t. He is
not like Kant who believes that everything beyond a certain set of rules is knowable aka a dogmatist
he believes in the next level which denotes that we should not just give up and reside ourselves to a
life of unknown redundancy hence his effort to complete Kant. This effort and thought process,
however, throws him into the group of

American Revolution Reflection
Alexander Hamilton a great founder so great there have been many biographies written and a
broadway play capturing the eyes, ears, and minds of a diverse audience. With all the flashing lights
amazing choreography and lyricism of the rap performed in this play the mass society that believes
solely in the message of diversity and the building of our country by an immigrant can not truly see
who Hamilton really was as a founder. The representation he built in the office he created of himself is
far from the images of Hamilton represented in Hamilton: The American Revolution by Lin Manuel
Miranda and Jeremy Carter. This play does not represent the time as it was, but as we wish it would
be: a period of fighting for equality for all: for men, for women, and for slaves. Irresponsibly does it
sprinkle in small details of history bringing forth a light of immaculate freedom and omitting the cold
facts, we do not wish to open our eyes. It is ,however, entertaining. The entertainment value is much
more important than the false information being expressed in this play. For those that believe they are
paying purely for the entertainment think about the lesson being taken away from the viewing. The
perception of fighting for equality that is being expressed throughout the entertainment. Messages

Environmental Issues In Newark-Jersey City
Recently, the environment issues are becoming more and more serious. The increasing of greenhouse
gas emission and pollutions lead to many environment problems related to climate change. The
climate change impact our urban life in many aspects. As the biggest metropolitan area in US, New
York Newark Jersey City, NY NJ PA Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population about 19,831,858
by year 2012 (U.S. Department of Commerce, US Census Bureau, 2012) The population has been
increased by 1.35% since 2010. The increase of population again increase the consuming of resources
and increase the carbon dioxide of the statistical area which aggravate the global warming. At this
moment, planners and government should take the impacts from climate change that will be critical
concern to our area into consideration and applying a climate change management planning policies.
The Climate Changes and the environment problems
Climate change is a issue that widely talked today. As the National Weather Service reports, the hottest
temperature records are extending all over the United States since year 2010 (Schlesinger, William H,

Jose Garcia Villa s Footnote To Youth
The short story Footnotes to Youth , written by Filipino writer Jose Garcia Villa, talks about a young
boy at the age of seventeen Dodong, who was initially very enthusiastic about life, but then the
obstacles and tribulations of life got the best of him and made him became grim about life. This goes
for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children and doing household
chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. Both of their lives became miserable after
having children despite their young age.
By reading the literary text Footnotes to Youth , it is found that the theory of psychoanalysis is applied
in the story. Through the dreams and the thoughts of the character, it is shown that the characters of
the story had inner feelings within them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thought that life had been made ugly for him after his marriage to Teang. Teang felt the same, as
she wished that she was not married, or at least that she had no children. There is also denial when
Blas told his father, Dodong, about his proposal to Tona. Dodong couldn t believe that his son was
doing the same thing as he did eighteen years ago. However, he could not do anything but to give his
blessings to his son reluctantly and hoped that he would able to go through th tribulation of life.
There is also evidence of archetypes, an easily recognizable role in literature and drama. It is found
that one character can have more than one archetype, as long they meet the requirements. In the short
story Footnotes to Youth , it is discovered that Teang was the anima, or the ideazed female in Dodong
s mind, as he constantly dreamt of her day and night. He desired her, and wanted to marry her. Tona
was the anima in Blas mind as well. The statement he gave to his father, Dodong, that he wanted her,
suggested that he had a sense of possessiveness within

Comparing a Non-Denominational Church with the Catholic...
When choosing a religious service I was very limited on my choices so I was intrigued to go back to

community and also in my social circle as well. Since I have actually been to a Catholic church as a
child I thought I knew what to expect but I was shocked at how naive I was to the subject. My
preconceived ideas and thoughts were that there would be a lot of getting down on your knees then
back up again then saying your Hail Mary s with not much depth to a service. Also growing up with a
social group that was full of Catholics you would always hear of confession so that was something I

Throughout my life I have gone through many good luck charms . Divination is also a common
feature among religions. This was defined in the book as, work of priests or people who have been

with my religious beliefs once again. It makes me think about fortune tellers, which I have always
wanted to go to. I believe that every religion consists of certain taboos, which is another common
feature among religions. Taboos are certain acts that should be avoided. This plays into my religion
tremendously. Most taboos of the Christian faith are set in the Ten Commandments. These would
include not committing adultery, stealing, using Gods name in vain, etc. Also there are other taboos
that society is becoming more and more lenient on as time progresses. One of which would include
the use of birth control. Christians do not allow anything that restraints the creation of life. In a study
done by the Zogby International telephone poll it found that only 26 percent supported the prohibition
against artificial birth control (O Reilly). This shows that although taboos are set in every religion,
they are adapting with the times as society sees fit. Age also plays a big role in the seriousness of a
taboo and what is considered a taboo among certain religions. Totemism is the one common feature
that was very shocking because of the abundance of totems surrounding every

Rockets are amazing machines that are capable of carrying man into space and one day beyond. This

in the future. The history of rockets dates back centuries to when the Chinese used them to launch
fireworks. Dr. Robert H. Goddard is known as the ,father of modern rocketry. He was the first man to
successfully build and launch a rocket powered by liquid fuel (American Rocketry Pioneer, 9/25/15).
His findings are still used in modern day rockets all around the world. Ultimately it was his finding
that lead to President Nixon s approval of the space shuttle program in 1972 (Kerod, 2005). Even

downward motion that pulls mass to the earth or some other large mass. Rockets also have two solid

The Song Analysis Of Where Is The Love
The song Where Is The Love by the Black Eyed Peas is a very heartfelt prayer for the healing and
suffering in the world and society that we live in. I feel like the song is about exactly what the title is
asking. Where is the love? Sometimes we have to stop, look around us and think about the
relationships we have with other people. Are our relationships built on foundations of true love,
compassion and kindness? Although the songs was originally released in 2003, most of the issues the
song focuses on are still relevant today, in 2017. Which really makes me wonder, where IS the love?
Surely after 14 years, things would have changed. Hate and war have existed since the beginning of
humanity. Crime is an enormous part of our society, in the past and in the present. Imagine a world
that is crime free, the perfect utopia. A world where everyone accepts their neighbour for the person
they truly are, without racism, without judgement, without oppression. Where is the love? recognizes
chaos in a broken world, intoxicated with violence and hate.
The song opens with the lyrics, What s wrong with the world Mama, people livin like they ain t got no
Mama, I think the whole world s addicted to Drama, only attracted to the things that will bring them
trauma For me the lyric about No Mama The people of today s society don t know how to behave
properly. We lack knowledge and understanding of the world. We don t pay attention to anyone but
ourselves. We don t know right from wrong. We are completely oblivious to what this world is turning
into and all we are doing are things that hurt ourselves and others. This lyric about having No Mama
saddens me as there are a lot of people out there in this world who do not have a mother to guide them
on the right path. We need a mother figure in our life because having a mother teaches us basic life
lessons that allow us to survive and be a good person. Such as to always say please and thank you,
respect people, be kind and love your neighbour. I can not relate to not having a mother figure in my
life as I have had the same amazing mother my whole life. She has taught me from the moment I was
born, to treat everyone equally, be kind, and respect and love everyone. To this

Hip Hop Influence
Hip hop, as well as other types of music, undoubtedly has an effect on people, whether it is from the
listener s interpretation of the music, or the direct message delivered from the lyrics. But more
specifically, I am interested in how modern hip hop effects the academics as a student overall, and
their own opinion of this influence. Not only am I trying to measure the influence of hip hop, but also
whether or not this influence is positive or negative. It is worth mentioning that I am not presently a
fan of hip hop, so the interpretation of the results gathered may not lead to the same conclusion as
someone who is a fan of hip hop. To address my research question, I conducted personal interviews,

In any group, people either listen to hip hop, and enjoy it for what it is, or people do not and assume
negative connotations about it because of the stigma associated with it. This is due to the media s
influence on music as well as the influence of politics on music. It is important to mention that there
has also been a divide drawn between different types of hip hop due to these influences. These two
types have been labeled as conscious rap and gangster rap . Conscious rap is said to be more socially
conscious and to have addressed issues present today, whereas gangster rap is said to contain themes
and lyrics that generally emphasize the gangsta lifestyle. For this paper, I will not differentiate
between the two because while one type of music may be more influential than another, it would not
be fair to assume this based on popular opinions. This influence means that it will hard to gauge the
actual influence of hip hop on the academics of a student because there is a bias one way or another

Controversy Surrounding the Use of Contraception
Introduction
From the time when it became available the near the beginning of the 1960s, oral contraceptives,
commonly called the pill, have opened possibilities that had were shut to females for all of times gone
by. Possibly more than any other sole factor, the pill has made it likely for women to be in charge of of
their own lives and to attain their prospects. Nowadays, 100 million women all over the world use the
pill. Nonetheless, there are emergencies ensuing from rape or failure to use contraceptive plans. There
are in addition emergencies ensuing from accidental consensual sex. In spite of everything, the human
sexual desire was fashioned by evolution to guarantee procreation, and it works extremely fine. Given
the correct psychological stimulants, pretty much everyone, counting presidents of the United States
and well known religious leaders, will jeopardize it all for an illicit sexual rendezvous (Drazen, et al.
2004). To be adamant that society rely exclusively on self restraint more willingly than contraception
is to refute a nature beside which the gods themselves are unable to compete. The whole history of
humanity can be interpreted as evidence to the influence of that nature.
Plan B was produced to cover emergencies, no matter what their reason. It turned out to be obtainable
by prescription in 1999. Millions of women have ever since found Plan B to be harmless and efficient
if ingested after intercourse but sooner than a spermatozoon enters the membrane

Grassroots Civil Rights Movement Research Paper
Throughout the history of America, African Americans have been targeted by white society and the
federal government refused to protect their given rights. The grass root civil rights movement included
sit in movements, freedom rides using nonviolent direct action. The main goal of the grassroots civil
rights movement was to obtain the attention of the federal government on the issue of African
American inequality. The grassroots civil rights movement was supported by several different civil
rights supporters including the SNLC, CORE, and the NAACP. Through freedom rides, sit in
movements, and nonviolent direct action the Federal government eventually was forced to confront

The first freedom ride began on May 1, 1961, after 4 college students walked into an all white diner
and were denied service based on their race. After the sit in occurred in Greensboro a group of
fourteen students joined together and got on a bus that left from Washington D.C. Their main goal was
to integrate diners and facilities at bus stops along their routes. As soon as they commenced their trip
on the road angry white protesters began to harass and assault black freedom riders. Soon after their
freedom ride gained national attention and many more freedom rides from other black citizens began.
In September of 1961 segregation was prohibited in train and bus stop facilities under the Interstate
Commerce Commission laws. Supported by the NAACP, CORE, and SNCC, all three of these civil
rights organizations financially supported the freedom rides. Supporting civil rights groups such as the
NAACP posted bail for black activists who were arrested during sit ins and freedom rides. The
freedom rides initiated a future with freedom and equality for African Americans. Freedom rides
eventually caught the eye of the federal government and they were forced to give African Americans
the rights that they rightfully fought for and deserved. 25 years later John Lewis, one of the original
group of 13 Freedom Riders, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 1986.

Mid-Life Crisis Narrative
I watched another man having a mid life crisis, pull out of the Novak car dealership across the street in
a silver convertible. My uncle ran that dealership. I scanned my dad s car lot; the cars were much older
with red numbers written on the windshields, and they were Hondas rather than BMWs. Dad was
having an intense phone call in the dimly lit back office. From where I sat at the desk, I could hear
snippets of the conversation that filtered through the gap through the door.
How long... here? Dad said.
I had no homework, so I swiveled around on my chair, and watched my dad bite his nails as he talked.

Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell Of Arms
World War I, also known as the Great War, was a war of courage, glory, and selflessness. A Farewell
to Arms, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a recollection of his war experiences. The protagonist, an
American Lieutenant named Fredric Henry, struggles to find the middle ground between his affair
with the beautiful and radiant Catherine Barkley and pursuing heroism in the Great War. The lovers
lives are turned upside down once they realize they are infatuated with each other. Like Lieutenant
Henry, when Hemingway was serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian
Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals (nobelprize.org). In the hospital, Henry grew
impatient because he could not immediately walk away from the facility and his problems.
Hemingway uses characterization to develop the people within the story as well as the underlining
motifs of loyalty, love, and masculinity. Lieutenant Fredric Henry traveled to Italy for the soul purpose
of participating in World War I and touring Italy. His intensions become less defined when he meets
Catherine Barkley. Hemingway draws the reader farther and farther into the novel with Fredric s
thoughts, and the beauty he sees within Catherine. Fredric quickly becomes involved in playing
innocent games with her. Catherine hints at the game, questioning if Fredric loved her. After he
responds with a lie, Catherine catches him off guard by replying, You don t have to pretend to love
me. That s over for the

Blind Side
The movie that I had selected to watch is called Blind Side . This movie is based off a real story about
a boy named Michael Oher who was a black youth living in homelessness and grew up without his
mother. He experienced many traumatizing events of separation but ended up going to Wingate
Christian School where he met Leigh Anne Tuohy. Through series of events, Michael was eventually
adopted into Leigh s family and was accepted as her son. She encouraged and supported Michael to
excel in school and sports. Ultimately, Michael was able to receive many scholarships from different
Universities who saw Michael s excellent skills in football.

In the beginning of the movie, Michael was tested of his personality. Though he score extremely low
in all aspects and areas of the test, he scored over 95% in protective instinct. When Michael started to
play football, he had a rough start. He was uncertain of the concept and strategies. He did not
understand how to block opponents and was yelled by the coach many times. However, the yelling did
not help him improve. Instead, he became more confused. This was not Michaels learning behaviour
so whenever he was coached in this specific way, he was not able to absorb anything that the coach
had mentioned to help him improve. That was until Leigh stepped in. When Leigh observed how
Michael was doing, she saw the flaw of how Michael was being coached. She took action and
considered Michael s personality in account to how he performs. As mentioned above, in the
beginning the school board had taken his personality test and scored 98% in protective instinct. Leigh
used this opportunity to connect both Michael s personality and sports to teach him how to block. She
related the football players to the family that he cares for. When Leigh and Michael first interacted, he
brought her to the area he was born in. That area is known for violence and surrounded by those who
live in poverty. While walking with Leigh around that neighbourhood, Michael promised to protect
her if anything were to happen. Additionally, while S.J and Michael were in a car accident, Michael
protected S.J by stopping the airbag from making contact with him. Leigh used these situations to
exemplify that the team is Michael s family and it is his job to protect them from their opponents. She
then illustrated that the quarterback is who he needed to protect as if the quarterback was Leigh
herself. She continued by displaying that when Michael sees his

The Key Role Of The Commercial Rating Agencies
The pivotal role that the three large US credit rating agencies Moody s, Standard Poor s (S P) and
Fitch played in the recent subprime mortgage lending and the following financial crisis has led to
extended regulation of these agencies and requires significantly more regulation. Credit rating
agencies and the ratings they supply are critical information resource for investors. An error in the
credit rating process has a huge impact on buyers and sellers of credit. It also affects the overall
performance of the financial markets.
Oligopoly of the credit rating agencies
The rating industry is known as an oligopoly, because there are only three significant credit agencies
in the US Moody s, Standard Poor s (S P) and Fitch. In an industry run by oligopoly, perfect
competition does not exist. Because each company has a large market share, they are said to have
market power, a situation where one or more of the participants is able to set the price or other
outcomes in some general or specialized market. The oligopolists have the ability to dictate the
market. In oligopolistic market one company may fear that if the other company rises price, rivals will
refuse to reciprocate and will take a substantial amount of its customers, leading to the firm s large
drop in sales. Since the transactors in bond markets are mostly institutional bond managers, financial
institutions should have the ability to receive the bond creditworthiness information from a broader

Electronic Media And Sleep Research
Electronic Media and Sleep Over the years, electronic media has contributed different ways in the
modern society, especially young adults, who has been the largest group among media users. The use
of Electronic Media has recently raised a concern regarding to sleeping behaviors that are presented
among students around the world. Since the early 21st century, researchers have conducted a study
that shows the connection between electronic media and sleeping patterns with young adults (Journal
of Sleep Research, 2014, 389). As students increasingly continue their habits of using Electronic
Media as personal entertainment purpose, they are at a potential risk of developing insufficient amount
of sleep as well as encountering health problems. Even though Electronic Media has given students
access to their education and promote social network connection, Electronic Media use should be
limited at school because too much exposure to Electronic Media can cause health problems and
social isolation among young adults and the use of electronic media interferes with students sleeping

There is no doubt that Jazz has become one of Japanese cultures, which was once linked to Japanese
American and European cultures, and now, it could also represent Japanese culture itself. Jazz
certainly has a major influence on Japanese music styles. This influence also affects Japanese society.
Jazz is like a pot of wine with continuous fermentation, spreading its flavor to different generations of
Japan. The love of jazz is very enthusiastic, people from kids to elders are all aware of this genre and
many of them participate in school bands, society bands and other groups that perform jazz music.
Here is one track of a Japanese high school band performing How high to the moon . Second track is a

Symptoms And Treatment Of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Today, there are many diseases people have to deal with. Some of them are treatable and some of them

What Is Karwachauth Festival Essay
One of the many festivals that we celebrate in India is Karwachauth. Karwachauth has a profound
significance in the lives of married women since they fast for their husband s long life and well being
on this festival. Karwachauth falls in the month of October. According to Hindu lunisolar calendar,
this festival falls in the month of Kartik, on the fourth day past the full moon of the Krishna Paksha.
Karvachauth word is a blend of two Hindi words: karva means the earthen pot (used in the puja) and
Chauth means the fourth day. Married women fast for their husband from the time the sun rises till the
moon rises and offer their prayers to the goddess Chauth maata to get the blessing of the longevity of
their spouse.
Scriptures have it that this festival is celebrated because Satyavati had saved his husband, Satyavan,

The Sixteenth Amendment Of The United States Constitution
The Sixteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution gives the United States government the
right to tax income. This amendment guarantees that our nation will have an army, our government
will build our roads, enforce our laws and carry through with other important duties, all through
federal taxation. The Sixteenth Amendment is still doing its job today as all people are required to pay
the government a portion of their income. Most of the government s money comes from the taxes of
the people. Without these taxes the government would be unable to function and our system that runs
our country would be very different. We also wouldn t have plans like Social Security or Medicare if
paying income tax was not in place. Although taxes play a good part for our nation, there is another
hand that can come in and play a bad part depending on what party is running our country. Taxation
can be made so that everyone has to pay the same amount regardless of your income. This effects the
lower income classes the most and the higher income classes the least as they have the money to pay
it. It depends on who you ask and what their specific viewpoint is on taxation. It is a good that our
country put this law in place for the sake of our government, we all just hope that the person running
our government doesn t make it out of control. The Supreme Court case of Pollock v. Farmer s Loan
and Trust Company directly applies to the Sixteenth Amendment. This Court case dealt with income

During Marie s time, the atom was thought to be the smallest particle in existence. At first, Marie and
Pierre Curie believed that perhaps the atom was covered with cosmic rays. Marie tested numerous
elements to find if other ones than Uranium would make the air conduct electricity better.
Pierre was so interested in Marie s work, that he joined forces with her. Her research had revealed that
two uranium ores, pitchblende and chalcolite were much more radioactive that pure uranium. Marie
concluded that the highly radioactive nature of these ores may possibly be due to undiscovered
elements.
In July of 1898, Marie and Pierre Cure discovered Polonium. They named the element after Marie s
birth country, Poland. Chemically, this new element was very similar to bismuth, but it contained
radioactivity, so it must be new. In December of 1898, the Curie s discovered yet another element.
They named this one radium, from the Latin word for ray. The two new elements had completely
different chemical properties, but they both had very strong radioactivity.
It was not easy for Marie and Pierre to convince the science community of their new findings. Marie
succeeded in separating the radium from the barium, but it wasn t easy. She had to treat very large

The Definition Of Savagery In The Lord Of The Flies
Every human is a savage. All of us has something savage within our lives. When were born, people
learn humanity and what s right from wrong. In the book The Lord Of The Flies The boys are
definitely considered savages .In the book, the boys are considered savages because it is evident that
when you re at home, you re taught what s right and wrong, but in the book there are no parents,
another reason is the characteristics of humanity was low such as being civilized. Lastly is the way
they talk and treat things/others which shows a huge amount of savagery. The definition of savagery is
the quality of being fierce or cruel. The definition of humanity is the human race/human being
characteristics.Part of life people have different sides of them whether are being nice, sad, mad,
excited, then lastly there s mean/cruel. Being mean/ cruel is basically the definition of Savagery. It is
anarchy which is used in the book. In The Lord Of The Flies the characters are Anarch types. An
example is that Ralph is the hero, but Piggy is the outcast. For the hero s job they must fulfill their
duties and tasks. Ralph tries to help and lead the group throughout the whole thing. The character,
Piggy, He is a main outcast out of all the characters he is also bullied from the boys on the island. He

The Problem Of Evil By John Leslie Mackie
The Problem of Evil by John Leslie Mackie is a philosophical argument that discusses the logical
paradoxes and impossibilities of God s existence. Written in 1955, it details how Mackie believes that
because God is represented as an omnipotent (perfectly powerful) and omnibenevolent (wholly good)
being, evil cannot exist and thus neither can God. I will explain those paradoxes and defend Mackie s
argument, but I shall will question the justification of his claims to God s existence. I shall also
provide and discuss three theistic objections to the problem of evil, both adequate and fallacious.
The Problem of Evil as characterized by J. L. Mackie can be summarised in three points:
1. God is omnipotent
2. God is omnibenevolent
3. Evil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suffering of any kind would inherently constrain God s omnibenevolence and omnipotence because it

would argue that ...the existence of pain and disease makes possible the existence of sympathy,
benevolence, heroism, and the gradually successful struggle of doctors and reformers to overcome
these evils (1955, p.206) This may be true, but God s benevolence would not enable him to allow pain

Sugar is a good ingredient for cooking, however, sugary foods can bring a lot of negative influences to
the human body, such as obesity, so this essay will introduce some knowledge about negative

Externality is a kind of market failure that all allocation of goods and services is not efficient.
Externalities is effects of activities on outside third parties, which is also called Spillover Effect . It
will occur when there is a difference between social costs or benefits and private costs or benefits.
Positive externality represents by benefits, so if social benefit is greater than private benefits, there

Regulation means that the government sets rules to make it more difficult for firms to produce, for
example, quantity restriction. If companies do not follow the regulation, they have to pay penalty.
Permits means that the government can set a maximum allowed amount, and then it will issue permits
to each firm. Firms can gain by reducing production or using cleaner methods to reduce pollution
because permits can be traded and firms cannot exceed permitted amount. Tax is also a good way to
remedy negative externalities. The government use tax to control the price, meanwhile to reduce the
consumption. In most cases, tax rates of those externalities should equal to the value of the externality.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you killed a person and what it would feel like trying
to justify the murder based on a person s morality? In the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor
Dostoevsky the protagonist Raskolnikov faced with this exact situation in which he commits a murder
and goes through the process of trying to justify his horrible act. He creates a fantasy that it was all
right to murder this person because he can help more people that what he killed. An analysis of Fyodor
Dostoevsky and his novel Crime and Punishment reveals that Dostoevsky was very depressed, due to
the philosophies of that time, and this depression influenced the morality of Raskolnikov.
Fyodor Dostoevsky born November 11, 1821 in Moscow grew up in an impoverished family, besides
the fact that his dad was a doctor, and did not get the best of educations. Growing up, he faced many
hard times in his life as a child and growing up. Including the death of his mother in 1837 which really
impacted his father and made his father begin to drink and become very depressed. Growing up
Dostoevsky found the most relation to his brother in his family because his mother died shortly after
his birth and his father was working a lot. His father then sent Dostoevsky and his brother off to
boarding schools Dostoevsky ended up in St. Petersburg, where he studied in school very hard and
was pretty successful while at school. His father gave everything for his children, he would send
money to Dostoevsky every time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On December 22, 1849 three prisoners, including Dostoevsky, were lead to a square and sentenced to
death by firing squad. What the prisoners did not know was that this execution was to be a mock
execution to test each prisoner psychologically. This is an explanation of Dostoevsky s thoughts
during the mock

Campbell Soup Case Study
1. Assume you are planning the audit and doing a risk assessment. Evaluate all aspects of the Fraud
Risk Triangle and identify any fraud risk factors (SAS 122) AU C 240, Appendix A, p.179 and
Appendix 6B of text that your think are present and why? (4 points) The fraud risk triangle is made up
of three different components: Motivation (pressure), Opportunity and Rationalization. Motivation, or
pressure, is the idea that mangement or other employees may be motivated to commit fradulent acts
such as providing false financial statements. Opportunity is the idea that certain circumstances exist,
such as the nature of the industry in which the company operates, where a corporation can manipulate
its financials as a way of boosting overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This resulted in improper use of accounting principles. The company also told its auditors, PWC, that
they used a means of FOB shipping point in regards to shipping products to yard. Although this
created more revenue, in reality the company was exhibiting FOB destination which manipulated its
financials. Finally, the company also performed guarnteed sales as a fraud tactic. In doing this, the
company reported revenue and later shipped the products that were sold to their warehouses
nationwide. As a precautionary measure, the company withheld the unconditional right for customers
to return the products in which they purchased. Even though the company included this in their report,
they did not report the sales return in their statements going forward. These fraud factors are very
risky in regards to abiding by the laws set forth by the GAAP. In 1999 the company decided to report
that they would fall way short of wall street projections due to inefficencies in the supply chain and
warm weather. This in turn lead to a large court case and a sharp decrease in the price of shareholder
common stock. In regards to the audit report performed by PWC, the judge involved in the case
reported that the firm was not justifiable in the fradulent acts performed by Campbell s Soup.

I Was A Wild One Essay
She was a wild one. A seeker of thrill, she lived from one adrenaline rush to the next. Her life was a
life of apparent bliss, as most of her days were filled with climbing mountains to watch the glorious
Hawaiian sunrises, diving off 50 foot cliffs into mouth wash colored, bathwater temperature oceanic
paradises, surfing with sharks, lazing around on white sandy beaches under palm trees, or enjoying an
ice cold fruit punch while resting in a hammock overlooking the ocean. Privileged enough to have
parents that brought her up understanding the difference between right and wrong and how a Christian
young woman should conduct herself, the knowledge and information rested at her fingertips.
Although she was popular, pretty, smart, funny, outgoing, and had everything going for her in life, she
had one problem: Boys. In her case, she itched for freedom, and the thought of taking a swing at life
her own way excited her more than taking the advise of others and her parents. Looking back,
although no one anticipated the outcome, it is easy to understand why what happened, actually
happened. The little choices my friend had been making all the way up until this point in her life were
preparing her for what was ahead, but she failed understand just how catastrophic the effects truly
would be. It really is true the choices you make early on determine your destiny. The thoughtless
thoughts that you don t think really matter all that much actually matter a lot. Even words that

Tidal Power
Engineering Design for Sustainability
TIDAL WAVE ENERGY
Introduction
Tidal power is a form of energy which derives directly from the relative motions of the Earth/Moon
system, and to a lesser extent from the Earth/Sol system.
Tidal energy is gained from the exchange of large bodies of water. Changes in water levels, and
associated tidal currents, are due to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon. This makes Tidal
Power completely predictable; furthermore, because it is created by relative motion of the special
bodies, it is in exhaustible.
Therefore Tidal power is much more reliable than other renewable sources such as wind or solar
power and will long outlast fossil fuels.
Tidal Power in the UK
It is estimated that tidal power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At high tide sea water flows into the reservoir through a one way gate. The gate closes when the tide
begin to fall and when the tide is low enough, the stored water is released at pressure through turbines,
back into the sea. The rotation of these turbines generates electricity.
The first commercial scale tidal generating barrage rated at 240 MW was built in La Rance. There is
smaller plant in Nova Scotia, rated at 20 megawatts (enough power for 4,500 homes).
The Dam for the tidal power plant on the estuary of the Rance River, Bretagne, France
The viability of Barrage systems has been questioned due to high civil infrastructure costs and
environmental issues. Although this method have proven very durable, barrage style power plants are
very expensive to build and are fraught with environmental problems from the accumulation of silt
within the dam catchment area (requiring regular, expensive dredging).
There are only a few potential sites across the globe and there are only three functioning plants
worldwide (Rance River, Bay of Fundy and Kislaya Guba).
Tidal Stream Systems
Engineers have created two new kinds of devices to harness the energy of tidal currents and generate
renewable, pollution free electricity. These are: Vertical axis and Horizontal axis models. They are
determined by the orientation of a subsea, rotating shaft that turns a gearbox linked to a turbine with

Gender And Openness At Experience
Gender and Openness to Experience Sydney Holst Arizona State University: PSY 290 Abstract The
relationship between gender and openness to experience was examined. Arizona State University
undergraduate students participated in taking a Goldberg based Big Five survey to measure their
openness to experience. Women had higher levels of openness to experience compared to men. These
findings suggest that there is a relationship between gender and the personality trait of openness to
experience. Gender and Openness to Experience From the beginning of one s life, people interact with
one another, immediately creating new relationships. The type of relationships humans develop is
determined by an individual s personality. Based upon the Big Five Factor Model, there are five broad
personality traits to describe humans (Costa, 1992). The Big Five traits are openness to experience,
conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (Matthews, Deary, Whiteman, 2003).
This five factor model has been the basis of many studies within the field of psychology. Previous
research has examined gender differences in the Big Five personality traits in fifty five nations
(Schmidt, Realo, Voracek, Allik, 2008). Schmidt, Realo, Voracek, and Allik (2008) found that across
the fifty five nations there was no significance in average. They found that women reported higher in
average conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism than

The Odyssey And Hesiod s
There are many reasons to draw connections amongst Homer and Hesiod. The Greek poet, Homer,
who came sometime in the 9th or 8th century B.C., in Ionia (modern day Turkey), is the writer of The
Iliad and The Odyssey . Hesiod, came around 700 B.C., is often referred to as the father of didactic
poetry . Hesiod wrote Theogony and Works and Days . Like Homer, not much is know about him a
rhapsodist, a reciter of poems. Both composed in the dactylic hexameter, the traditional meter of
Greek epic, and in an oral conventional tradition. Though the poets have many similarities they also
have many difference as shown in their writing. From the role of women, the definition of valor and
views towards religion hesiod and homer established many

  • 2. Political Philosophy Of Liberalism Liberalism is a political viewpoint that is established on the thoughts of liberty and equality. Thus, liberalists promote various ideas that are aligned to the concepts of liberty and equality such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, gender equality, and civil rights. In general, it can be argued that the philosophy of liberalism is focused on protecting and promoting the freedom of the people (Celikates and Jansen). As such, it presents the people as the central issue of politics. In fact, according to the liberalists, the main function of the government is to protect individuals from being oppressed by others. Nonetheless, liberalists are also aware that in the process of offering this protection, the government is also likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tim look sees liberalism as an impediment to social communism owing to the fact that it fosters individualism and independence of a person. What is neoliberalism (you get a sense of neoliberalism in David Harvey, Elizabeth Povinelli, Michel Foucault, and Wendy Brown s work)? What critiques of neoliberalism do Harvey, Povinelli, and Brown offer? Neoliberalism refers to a perspective that sees mall time as working time. It encourages people to participate in socio economic activities at all the time in a bid to realizing the desired development. It plays an essential role in empowering the people to remain committed to realizing success in life by engaging them to work at all the times (Harvey 44). It does not acknowledge the significance of leisure in the socio economic development of an individual. Critics of neoliberalism are against the fact that a person solely focuses on realizing success at the expense of their wellbeing. It is of the essence for a person to allocate adequate time for rest and leisure to realize the desired socio economic success (Harvey 47). Although the critics of neoliberalism are not against working, they are against the non stop working of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Is Creon Wrong In the play Antigone written by Sophocles, many issues come to light regarding morality and virtue. While there may be many interpretations regarding whether Antigone is correct in her views or Creon is, the German philosopher Hegel argues that both are right to some extent. When the argument is analyzed from both point of views it is evident that they both have some moral reasoning leading to both cases being correct; however, since neither side is willing to put themselves in the other persons shoes to have a clearer view of the situation, it causes Creon and Antigone to be wrong at the same time. Both Antigone s and Creon s judgement is clouded because of their inability to understand the argument from the other person s point of view, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, if Antigone is in the right it would mean that any person can simply question which laws they choose to follow in the system according to the religious beliefs they have. Overall, this tragedy could have easily been avoided if both Antigone and Creon chose to compromise their situation. Although it would have been difficult because they are at opposites sides of the spectrum, they could have easily came to an agreement in the situation which would have led all the members to be happy and to prevent the citizens from thinking that Creon isn t a man of his word or does give special treatment to others in his ... • 4. The Blind Man Raymond Carver Raymond Carver does an excellent job of formulating the overall theme of looking without seeing. While it is very apparent to the reader that the main character can see physical objects just fine, one can also see that he clearly has a limit to that sight when it comes to emotional connections. As we follow the story, we can see the narrator transform and ultimately reach a breakthrough in the end. By using point of view, character, and symbolism, Carver is able to highlight the theme of the story. Upon reading the first sentence of this short story This blind man, an old friend of my wife s, he was on his way to spend the night. It is in the comparison of the narrator and Robert that we can truly see the narrator s internal journey. The fact that he is blind is tremendously significant to the story s underlying meaning. The narrator has the ability to see everything, and yet Robert this blind man is capable of seeing more. It seems as if Robert recognizes the narrator s faulty perception when he asks him to describe the cathedral. Getting him to draw with him allows the narrator to gain insight; something I think Robert knew would happen when he asked him to close his eyes on page 76. It is through these recognitions that we can see the narrator s ability to change from an egotistical misogynist who can only perceive physical sight and value into a man who recognizes things for what they truly ... An example of a closed genome is B. anthrasis (Anthrax) Core genomes are the essential genes in all genomes and is conserved across all pathogenic species; these genes are very often involved in metabolism and growth. These genomes hardly change because they are central to the microbe and slight changes may kill the organism. A pan genome is the entire gene pool for that pathogen species, and includes genes that are not shared by all strains. Pan genomes may be open or closed depending on whether comparative analysis of multiple strains reveals no new genes (closed) or many new genes (open) compared to the core genome for that pathogen species. Short stuff: Open genome = C. difficile = many different isolates and strains. There are large variations between same genus, species (new genes + core genome). Closed genome = B. anthracis = very, very little variation when different isolated have been sequenced. Pangenome = all the genes that have ever been sequenced from E. coli. • 6. Developing A Healthy Organizational Culture Essay Human Resources approach performs an extremely essential function in creating and maintaining competitive advantage; many organizations disregard the importance of HR in creating competitive advantage. The three priorities will require a major transformation in the organization. HR strategy should support the conversion, and help the workforces to acclimatize in a different environment. One major objective of the innovative HR strategy will be to create a healthy organizational culture that supports innovation, collaboration, and intercontinental operation. Leadership plays an enormously important role in developing a healthy organizational culture. (Dessler, 2013) Furthermore, the innovative HR strategy will provide the workforces a platform where they can express their opinion, thoughts, recommendations, and perspectives for the conception of a more productive workplace. The workforces can also share their views on how to create a supportive organizational culture. The personnel will likewise share their ideas and recommendations on improving processes, cutting expenditure, reducing waste etc. The Availability of such platform will improve employee satisfaction, create a sense of ownership, involve employees in decision making, and motivate employees to achieve their individual as well as organizational objectives. • 7. The Importance Of Photosynthesis In Plants Photosynthesis in plants is one of the most important chemical reactions on the planet. Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction necessary to sustain all forms of life. Only plants, and some very specialized animals, called autotrophs are able to turn sunlight into usable chemical energy. Autotrophs turn inorganic molecules into complex organic molecules through solar or chemical energy. Autotrophs also have the capacity to store energy, such as carbon compounds which can be passed to other organisms that consume them. Plants are the base of the flow of energy and therefore a primary producer.(Miller and Levine, 2014) Other organisms can break down the carbon compounds consumed through plants and release it through respiration to be used again by plants. This is known as the carbon cycle. But what makes this happen? In an indoor or laboratory setting, what types of artificial light can be most efficiently used as a substitute for sunlight? Plants provide the basis for most food chains. Even the energy consumer came from plants at one point. Photosynthesis is used to store nutrients and other carbon compounds in plants that are also vital for many other organisms. Photosynthesis mainly occurs in two stages, the light stage, and the dark stage. These take place in photosystems I and II. These hold chlorophyll molecules and, when chlorophyll is struck by a photo of light, an electron becomes energized and water molecules bind. ( Updegraff, 2017). Water is split into hydrogen and ... • 10. The Ethical and Theological Implications of Human Cloning... The Ethical and Theological Implications of Human Cloning Introduction Advances in science and technology have often caused revolutionary changes in the way society views the world. When computers were first invented, they were used to calculate ballistics tables; today they perform a myriad of functions unimagined at their conception. Space travel changed the way mankind viewed itself in terms of a larger context, the universe. In 1978, the first test tube baby was born in England making it apparent for the first time that babies could be conceived outside a mother s womb. Each of these events caused much commotion, and each advance has presented society with new challenges; however, no scientific area has been more debated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way, cloning has changed the potentials for reproduction; males could potentially not be required in the creation of children. It is important to note, however, that cloning of a human has yet to be accomplished. While it would be naive to say that it will never be done, so far this problem of biotechnology has been left undone. The Process of Cloning Before any discussion about cloning can be started, it is necessary to explain, albeit in a simplified version, the scientific process that cloning entails.* Every cell in any given organism contains exactly the same genetic material or DNA. Each human DNA is composed of two pairs of twenty three chromosomes. In the process of natural reproduction, when an egg and sperm are joined, they fuse to form a single cell called a zygote that has a new genetic makeup the sperm and the egg each contributing one set of chromosomes. Thus, the genetic material found in an embryo is a combination of the DNA from the mother and the father. When this initial new cell is formed, certain proteins give the signal that it is time for the zygote to divide and produce exact replicas of itself. From the single cell stage, this division occurs in a doubling manner so that in a matter of hours there are eight cells present. Until this eight cell stage occurs, cells are all the same. After that point, however, different cells begin to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Caliph Harun Al Rashid Aside from this general emphasis on the value of cleverness and intelligence however, the story of the Caliph Harun al Rashid and his much exalted qadi Abu Yusuf also highlights an interesting point about religion and the works to follow or otherwise remain within the confines of certain religious mandates while simultaneously being able to pursue whatever personal ends one desires. Though the qadi claims that the actions of the Caliph all fall within accordance with the Qur an and the teachings of Islam, the series of events required to allow the Caliph to consummate a marriage with the slave girl which involve such workarounds as the ordering of her marriage to a male slave in order to divorce them and avoid the three month period of legal purification (Schroeder, 1955) required for sexual conduct, as well as ordering the male slave to become the property of the girl in order to annul their marriage when the male slave refuses to divorce her on his own it certainly seems that these actions probably violate the spirit of the law, even if they avoid violation of the letter. The story itself makes a somewhat humorous and sly mention of this fact towards the end of the tale, confirming that as to the expiation of the oaths, Abu Yusuf s ruling would hardly be confirmed by jurists of the Shafi i school, (Schroeder, 1955) but noting that Abu Yusuf treated it in accord with the views of his own, the Hanafi school. In other words, whether or not the actions of the qadi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Revolution Reflection Alexander Hamilton a great founder so great there have been many biographies written and a broadway play capturing the eyes, ears, and minds of a diverse audience. With all the flashing lights amazing choreography and lyricism of the rap performed in this play the mass society that believes solely in the message of diversity and the building of our country by an immigrant can not truly see who Hamilton really was as a founder. The representation he built in the office he created of himself is far from the images of Hamilton represented in Hamilton: The American Revolution by Lin Manuel Miranda and Jeremy Carter. This play does not represent the time as it was, but as we wish it would be: a period of fighting for equality for all: for men, for women, and for slaves. Irresponsibly does it sprinkle in small details of history bringing forth a light of immaculate freedom and omitting the cold facts, we do not wish to open our eyes. It is ,however, entertaining. Although the songs was originally released in 2003, most of the issues the song focuses on are still relevant today, in 2017. Which really makes me wonder, where IS the love? Surely after 14 years, things would have changed. Hate and war have existed since the beginning of humanity. Crime is an enormous part of our society, in the past and in the present. Imagine a world that is crime free, the perfect utopia. A world where everyone accepts their neighbour for the person they truly are, without racism, without judgement, without oppression. Where is the love? recognizes chaos in a broken world, intoxicated with violence and hate. The song opens with the lyrics, What s wrong with the world Mama, people livin like they ain t got no Mama, I think the whole world s addicted to Drama, only attracted to the things that will bring them trauma For me the lyric about No Mama The people of today s society don t know how to behave properly. We lack knowledge and understanding of the world. We don t pay attention to anyone but ourselves. We don t know right from wrong. We are completely oblivious to what this world is turning into and all we are doing are things that hurt ourselves and others. This lyric about having No Mama saddens me as there are a lot of people out there in this world who do not have a mother to guide them on the right path. We need a mother figure in our life because having a mother teaches us basic life lessons that allow us to survive and be a good person. Such as to always say please and thank you, respect people, be kind and love your neighbour. I can not relate to not having a mother figure in my life as I have had the same amazing mother my whole life. She has taught me from the moment I was born, to treat everyone equally, be kind, and respect and love everyone. To this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hip Hop Influence Hip hop, as well as other types of music, undoubtedly has an effect on people, whether it is from the listener s interpretation of the music, or the direct message delivered from the lyrics. But more specifically, I am interested in how modern hip hop effects the academics as a student overall, and their own opinion of this influence. In any group, people either listen to hip hop, and enjoy it for what it is, or people do not and assume negative connotations about it because of the stigma associated with it. This is due to the media s influence on music as well as the influence of politics on music. It is important to mention that there has also been a divide drawn between different types of hip hop due to these influences. These two types have been labeled as conscious rap and gangster rap . Conscious rap is said to be more socially conscious and to have addressed issues present today, whereas gangster rap is said to contain themes and lyrics that generally emphasize the gangsta lifestyle. For this paper, I will not differentiate between the two because while one type of music may be more influential than another, it would not be fair to assume this based on popular opinions. This influence means that it will hard to gauge the actual influence of hip hop on the academics of a student because there is a bias one way or another when answering the ... Controversy Surrounding the Use of Contraception Introduction From the time when it became available the near the beginning of the 1960s, oral contraceptives, commonly called the pill, have opened possibilities that had were shut to females for all of times gone by. Possibly more than any other sole factor, the pill has made it likely for women to be in charge of of their own lives and to attain their prospects. Nowadays, 100 million women all over the world use the pill. Nonetheless, there are emergencies ensuing from rape or failure to use contraceptive plans. There are in addition emergencies ensuing from accidental consensual sex. In spite of everything, the human sexual desire was fashioned by evolution to guarantee procreation, and it works extremely fine. Given the correct psychological stimulants, pretty much everyone, counting presidents of the United States and well known religious leaders, will jeopardize it all for an illicit sexual rendezvous (Drazen, et al. 2004). To be adamant that society rely exclusively on self restraint more willingly than contraception is to refute a nature beside which the gods themselves are unable to compete. The whole history of humanity can be interpreted as evidence to the influence of that nature. Plan B was produced to cover emergencies, no matter what their reason. A Farewell to Arms, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a recollection of his war experiences. The protagonist, an American Lieutenant named Fredric Henry, struggles to find the middle ground between his affair with the beautiful and radiant Catherine Barkley and pursuing heroism in the Great War. The lovers lives are turned upside down once they realize they are infatuated with each other. Like Lieutenant Henry, when Hemingway was serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals (nobelprize.org). In the hospital, Henry grew impatient because he could not immediately walk away from the facility and his problems. Hemingway uses characterization to develop the people within the story as well as the underlining motifs of loyalty, love, and masculinity. Lieutenant Fredric Henry traveled to Italy for the soul purpose of participating in World War I and touring Italy. His intensions become less defined when he meets Catherine Barkley. Hemingway draws the reader farther and farther into the novel with Fredric s thoughts, and the beauty he sees within Catherine. Fredric quickly becomes involved in playing innocent games with her. However, the yelling did not help him improve. Instead, he became more confused. This was not Michaels learning behaviour so whenever he was coached in this specific way, he was not able to absorb anything that the coach had mentioned to help him improve. That was until Leigh stepped in. When Leigh observed how Michael was doing, she saw the flaw of how Michael was being coached. She took action and considered Michael s personality in account to how he performs. This amendment guarantees that our nation will have an army, our government will build our roads, enforce our laws and carry through with other important duties, all through federal taxation. The Sixteenth Amendment is still doing its job today as all people are required to pay the government a portion of their income. Most of the government s money comes from the taxes of the people. Without these taxes the government would be unable to function and our system that runs our country would be very different. We also wouldn t have plans like Social Security or Medicare if paying income tax was not in place. Although taxes play a good part for our nation, there is another hand that can come in and play a bad part depending on what party is running our country. Taxation can be made so that everyone has to pay the same amount regardless of your income. This effects the lower income classes the most and the higher income classes the least as they have the money to pay it. It depends on who you ask and what their specific viewpoint is on taxation. It is a good that our country put this law in place for the sake of our government, we all just hope that the person running our government doesn t make it out of control. In doing this, the company reported revenue and later shipped the products that were sold to their warehouses nationwide. As a precautionary measure, the company withheld the unconditional right for customers to return the products in which they purchased. Even though the company included this in their report, they did not report the sales return in their statements going forward. These fraud factors are very risky in regards to abiding by the laws set forth by the GAAP. In 1999 the company decided to report that they would fall way short of wall street projections due to inefficencies in the supply chain and warm weather. This in turn lead to a large court case and a sharp decrease in the price of shareholder common stock. In regards to the audit report performed by PWC, the judge involved in the case reported that the firm was not justifiable in the fradulent acts performed by Campbell s Soup. ... • 44. I Was A Wild One Essay She was a wild one. A seeker of thrill, she lived from one adrenaline rush to the next. Her life was a life of apparent bliss, as most of her days were filled with climbing mountains to watch the glorious Hawaiian sunrises, diving off 50 foot cliffs into mouth wash colored, bathwater temperature oceanic paradises, surfing with sharks, lazing around on white sandy beaches under palm trees, or enjoying an ice cold fruit punch while resting in a hammock overlooking the ocean. Privileged enough to have parents that brought her up understanding the difference between right and wrong and how a Christian young woman should conduct herself, the knowledge and information rested at her fingertips. Although she was popular, pretty, smart, funny, outgoing, and had everything going for her in life, she had one problem: Boys. In her case, she itched for freedom, and the thought of taking a swing at life her own way excited her more than taking the advise of others and her parents. Looking back, although no one anticipated the outcome, it is easy to understand why what happened, actually happened. The little choices my friend had been making all the way up until this point in her life were preparing her for what was ahead, but she failed understand just how catastrophic the effects truly would be. It really is true the choices you make early on determine your destiny. The thoughtless thoughts that you don t think really matter all that much actually matter a lot. Even words that ... • 45. Tidal Power Engineering Design for Sustainability TIDAL WAVE ENERGY Introduction Tidal power is a form of energy which derives directly from the relative motions of the Earth/Moon system, and to a lesser extent from the Earth/Sol system. Tidal energy is gained from the exchange of large bodies of water. Changes in water levels, and associated tidal currents, are due to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon. This makes Tidal Power completely predictable; furthermore, because it is created by relative motion of the special bodies, it is in exhaustible. Therefore Tidal power is much more reliable than other renewable sources such as wind or solar power and will long outlast fossil fuels. Tidal Power in the UK It is estimated that tidal power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At high tide sea water flows into the reservoir through a one way gate. The gate closes when the tide begin to fall and when the tide is low enough, the stored water is released at pressure through turbines, back into the sea. The rotation of these turbines generates electricity. The first commercial scale tidal generating barrage rated at 240 MW was built in La Rance. There is smaller plant in Nova Scotia, rated at 20 megawatts (enough power for 4,500 homes). The Dam for the tidal power plant on the estuary of the Rance River, Bretagne, France The viability of Barrage systems has been questioned due to high civil infrastructure costs and environmental issues. Although this method have proven very durable, barrage style power plants are very expensive to build and are fraught with environmental problems from the accumulation of silt within the dam catchment area (requiring regular, expensive dredging). There are only a few potential sites across the globe and there are only three functioning plants worldwide (Rance River, Bay of Fundy and Kislaya Guba). Tidal Stream Systems Engineers have created two new kinds of devices to harness the energy of tidal currents and generate renewable, pollution free electricity. These are: Vertical axis and Horizontal axis models. They are determined by the orientation of a subsea, rotating shaft that turns a gearbox linked to a turbine with ... • 46. Gender And Openness At Experience Gender and Openness to Experience Sydney Holst Arizona State University: PSY 290 Abstract The relationship between gender and openness to experience was examined. Arizona State University undergraduate students participated in taking a Goldberg based Big Five survey to measure their openness to experience. Women had higher levels of openness to experience compared to men. These findings suggest that there is a relationship between gender and the personality trait of openness to experience. Gender and Openness to Experience From the beginning of one s life, people interact with one another, immediately creating new relationships. The type of relationships humans develop is determined by an individual s personality. Based upon the Big Five Factor Model, there are five broad personality traits to describe humans (Costa, 1992). The Big Five traits are openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (Matthews, Deary, Whiteman, 2003). This five factor model has been the basis of many studies within the field of psychology. Previous research has examined gender differences in the Big Five personality traits in fifty five nations (Schmidt, Realo, Voracek, Allik, 2008). Schmidt, Realo, Voracek, and Allik (2008) found that across the fifty five nations there was no significance in average. They found that women reported higher in average conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
