Facts About Self Harm
Facts about self harm, have been kept out of view from the public eye for far longer, than society
should be proud of, Self harm is a serious issue, not just a desperate attention seeking cry, which is
what a great many have lead so many to believe. What can be defined as self harm, how many have
engaged in self harm, why do they do it, and just what exactly is self harm? Is it a mental illness, a cry
for attention or maybe something else?
According to a study published in the journal Pediatrics, an average of 1 in every 5 people has
engaged in some form of non¬ suicidal self¬ injury, including but not limited to cutting, burning, hair
pulling and punching (Domanick). Apparently self harm isn t as uncommon we had originally been
lead to be, if even 1 in every 5 people can self harm, that just means society hasn t been as observant
as we like to believe. Anyone can self harm, from distinguished politician, to a humble beggar on the
streets, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous research indicates some hospitals and emergency departments have no access to mental
health professionals, he said. Also, staff will often minimize the seriousness of self
harm, especially if
patients have presented in the recent past (Kowalski). Its sad to think, that most hospital staff, do not
show any compassion or even attempt to understand what those who self harm are truly going
through, because in their eye s it s just a cry for attention. And if someone is so willing to cause
themselves harm, just to receive attention, they might have a mental disorder that has yet to be treated.
So maybe it s time to take another look into self harm, and see exactly what the causes are and how
they just might be an issue that can be called mental

Similarities Between Equations And Inequalities
In Algebra, we have been learning about Equations and Inequalities, and how you can solve them in
the same ways. Though, They re both very similar and both very different in their own ways, which
makes it difficult to find the differences.
But, There are also many similarities between them. The way that the two are similar is that you can
solve both problems the same way, for example:
If you had 2x + 2 = 10
You d solve it by subtracting 2 with 10, which would result in an 8.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
After this, you d divide 2 with 2, and 2 with 8, which would give you a 4.
So the answer would be X = 4. So 4 would be the only answer.
2x + 2 = 10
2x = 8
X = 4
If you did this with an IneQuality, it would turn out the same, except if you divide ... Show more

Since its all numbers less than 4, we d have an open circle since it isn t equal to 4. And there s an
arrow pointing towards the left since its all numbers less than 4.
But, if it was all numbers greater than 4, it would be like this:
3 4 5
Despite the two having a couple differences and a couple similarities, both can be used in the world
around us, since, depending on the symbol you use, you d still get the same answer nonetheless.
However, there still are more differences between the two.
Even if you do the Math equation the same, the symbols can cause the answer to shift, and make it so
the two aren t the same.
For example:
If you used 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1 )
You d start by multiplying the 6 by 2, since the 6 is next to a parenthesis symbol, which would give
you 12, and you d multiply the 6 with 1, which would give you 6 in return.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
tHEN, YOU D SUBTRACT 12 BY ITSELF, AND WITH THE OTHER 12, WHICH WOULD
MAKE THE ANSWER 6 = 6, MAKING IT AN INFINITE SOLUTION.
12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1)
12x + 6 = 12x+6
6 = 6
bUT, IF YOU DID THIS WITH AN INEQUALITY, YOU D GET A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

Euthyphro And Pious Analysis
First Reading Response
Socrates meets Euthyphro outside of the courthouse and begin discussing the nature of impious and
pious acts. Euthyphro claims to be an expert on these matters so he agrees to help Socrates understand
piety better. Euthyphro s first definition is the pious is to do what I am doing now, to prosecute the
wrongdoer, be it about murder. (5d) Socrates objects to this saying that this would only counts as an
instance of piety, and he is more interested in a universal element of all pious acts. Euthyphro
elaborates to say that piety is what all the gods love, and impiety is what all the gods hate. (6e)
Socrates rebukes that there are matters that some of the gods love, while other gods may hate. Socrates
objects saying that gods disagree on issues, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Euthyphro then offers a third definition; Piety is what all the gods love, and Impiety is what all the
gods hate. (9d) Socrates opens up his objection by asking is the pious being loved by the gods because
it is pious, or is it pious because it is being loved by the gods? (10a) This is the premise to his
argument about the difference in being loved and loving something. To explain his point further
Socrates uses numerous examples of carrying and being carried. To be carried one must first be
carrying something. The same goes for verbs that affect others, for instance to be seen one must first
be seeing something. The carrying must be going on before something can be called carried. So
something is loved when someone is loving it. It cannot be loved before something has loved it.
Euthyphro agrees that the pious is being loved by the gods because it is pious. Socrates then looks to

The American Citizens Opinion and the War in Vietnam
The opinion of the citizens of the United States began to change as time passed and incidents took
place. The government misled the people, the people became dissatisfied with the current situation and
families were torn apart. As American got sucked deeper into the war, Americans wanted to get out
more badly. The growth of anti war movements was caused by a mixture of different factors.
The decline of support for the Vietnam War mainly started in 1968. Although antiwar movements in
the United States had been occurring before, the Tet Offensive opened the eyes of countless people.
General Westmoreland had assured the public that the war was going to come to a swift end soon, that
there was light at the end of the tunnel . But on January ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The killings touched off protests at hundreds of college campuses across the United States; many of
these also turned violent, and two more students were killed in mid May at Jackson State University in
Mississippi. The antiwar movements brought tension between classes. Some people tried to get desk
work jobs in the military, doing paperwork or typing things to avoid being on the front line. The
majority of soldiers fighting in the war were young people with little education from lower class
families. The deaths at protests made political decision making difficult. Congress tried passing laws
that limited the Presidents power.
By the mid 1960 s, television was how the American public got their source of news. In 1964, 58% of
Americans got most of their news from television. And by 1972, that number rose to 64%. Media had
a huge effect on the popular opinion of US citizens. Before the Tet Offensive took place, the media
supported the effort at Vietnam. Reporting of military victories and progress. At that time, there was
no military censorship which meant that journalists could follow soldiers to the front lines and report
their observations without going through the government. During the Vietnam War was the first time
the horror of war was brought into the living rooms of Americans. The American public could

The Survival of the Rock Hyrax in Urban Areas
RATIONALE Urbanisation poses a threat to wildlife through habitat destruction and population
fragmentation. As a consequence, urbanisation alters the distribution of species. Yet, urbanisation
creates opportunities for some species to thrive and persist in the urban jungle. Many species have
adapted to urban areas across the globe. However, not all animals living in urban areas adapt to urban
life and instead might be confined to refugia that match the pre existing adaptation to natural
conditions. Therefore, studying the occurrence and persistence of wildlife in urban areas might
provide an understanding how some species can survive urbanisation (Chace Walsh 2006; Sih 2013;
Sol et al. 2013; Fontúrbel Tarifa 2013). Wildlife can become pests in urban areas. For invasive species,
these conflicts arise because they exploit newly available niches. For example, cane toads, Bufo
marinus, in Australia, red foxes, Vulpes vulpes, across the globe, and grey squirrels, Sciurus
carolinensis, in Britain (Barr et al. 2002; Saunders et al. 2010; Bateman Fleming 2012). However, for
indigenous species, these conflicts can arise through habituation to people which could lead to these
species being viewed as pests due to their behaviours conflicting with human interests. For example,
European badgers, Meles meles, in British residential properties during foraging and sett construction
(Ward et al. 2008). My study is concerned with establishing how species can survive in urban

Improving An Employee s Stress Level Is Through Supervision
Alternatively, one of the most common methods used to manage an employee s stress level is through
supervision. As previously stated, social workers who work within the child welfare system can use
daily debriefing based on the critical incidents that occur with this population. For example, from
personal experience of being a supervisor over case managers working with children, supervision was
crucial not only for myself but for the caseworkers. The caseworkers were able to release their
emotions, concerns, and possible fears when dealing with their clients and their family. Huss (2012)
shows how employees use supervision to cope and discuss stressful situations, however, it is explained
how supervision is beginning to suddenly decrease. Huss (2012) describes how supervision is
beginning to decrease, which can be due to the possible lack of supervisory positions or funding. This
is an example of why the current practices, i.e. EPA, supervision, and OD, need to change within
organizations. Based on personal experience, in order to help manage an employees stress, an
organization needs to ensure that their staff has the tools needed to work efficiently and effectively.
Organizations must be aware of the stress that can be caused by the policies, regulations and
conflicting demands of the external and internal factors that influence an employee s work (Dextras
Gautier, Marchand, Haines, 2012). Furthermore, organizational SMIs encompass the leadership of
administration,

Designers and Manufacturers Should Rethink and Redesign...
This is a book by two researchers who are trying to find ways to build and make things that are
friendlier to the environment. Their approach is very different from the usual ecological approach,
which, as put by McDonough and Braungart, is to be less bad. The regular approach has normally
been to just reduce the amount of toxins in a product, or trying to collect and recycle goods, or adding
expensive and bulky fixes to already existing systems. But not in this book; the authors idea is that
designers and manufacturers should instead try to rethink and redesign the materials that they make
with their end uses in mind. By using nontoxic materials that can also easily break down into quality
materials, this creates byproducts that can be reused to manufacture quality items. The authors also
recommend the planning of buildings and industrial complexes to use the environment that surrounds
them for things like heating, cooling, and design. One of the strengths of the book is that the
suggestions here are not just hypothetical situations. In fact, the book itself is made of a certain kind of
polymer plastic and is also printed with nontoxic inks that can be easily washed off, which makes the
material made available to produce another book. The authors have also worked on much bigger
projects, such as the redesigning of the Ford facility in Michigan, based on these kinds of principles.
The book is not only positive but also specific on how to design and manufacture things for

Being A Brat And Lock Me
The first thought that comes to my mind went I walked out of this classroom was: I m done with
Venus, I m going back to Earth, where people don t freak out over the sun because they see it almost
every day. Just because I have been here for 5 years does not mean I am different. I also miss the sun,
but I don t go crazy on the day the sun is predicted to come out. I think I have done well, surviving
this torture for 5 years and counting. I just don t get it. If I don t want to run when they tag me, I don t

Many detectives were there, but my experience in school got me VIP access. I looked around the

have read, all I remember was that sometimes the criminal came back to the crime scene. I looked at
all the people, but I only saw police and news reporters. None of them could be the suspect. I did get a
little hope when I saw a new gadget the police took out, I remembered watching a show about it just
before I came to Venus. Police would hook it up to the warehouse s main computer, the device would

Middle Ages Manorialism
When the Roman Empire ended, Europe was thrown into a period filled with new societies and ways
of life. Many rulers were in control of land and there was no centralized government or leader. Their
political structure took a step backwards with systems such as feudalism and manorialism, and the
kingdoms were extremely unstable. But later, Kings became more powerful, the economy and trade
improved, and nation states began. There were many different leadership styles and rulers during the
Middle Ages.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe needed stability, so feudalism began. Feudalism impacted
the military and political structures of this time. In this system, everybody had their own place.
Owners of large tracts of land (kings and lords) gave some of their land away to knights and nobles
known as vassals in exchange for protection and loyalty, and many of these vassals became lords of
lands by giving land to less powerful vassals. Many people in this system were both lords of land and
vassals, and people were still respected as vassals. Even a king might be a vassal; John of Britain was
vassal to King Philip of France for certain French lands, yet he in no way thought himself inferior to
Philip. (History world.org)
Another structure in the Early Middle Ages was Manorialism. While Feudalism shows the ... Show

Bridget Keaton Research Paper
Bridget Keaton had Lord of the Flies in her hand as she read on her balcony. The pages of her book

was this sentimental quote. Bridget even highlighted it and annotated it for the use of her to

her. Bridget read the quote out loud to herself again: Maybe there is a beast... maybe it s only us.
Goosebumps began to rise on her skin because the society she lived in was right. Bridget lived in

The Media And Health And Safety Of The World s Population
Over the years, the advances in science have increased the health and safety of the world s population.
Through the introduction of vaccines, medicines, and other medical equipment, the scientific world
has prevented the spread of diseases, the possibility of an epidemic, and another devastating pandemic
in history like the black plague. Although vaccines provide a resistance to diseases, many people
question the safety of them. There is a famous theory that vaccines cause autism due to the chemicals
within the vaccines, even though scientific evidence denies any connection. One of the reasons that
this theory still exists is due to the portrayal of information from the media. Based on the opinion of
the media outlet, the depiction of the vaccine autism link changes throughout society. The media is
typically the main source of information for citizens, whether they watch a news channel, read a
newspaper, check online newspapers, or listen to the radio, these news outlet supply our population
with the basis of knowledge on all topics. Not many people in this audience will conduct their own
research, this means that the original data and information is usually summarized and changed to fit
the opinion of the media outlet. Some celebrities, like Jenny McCarthy and Charlie Sheen, picked up
on the issue and helped spread the theory; as the media followed their stories, the idea of the
connection continued to spread. The debate about whether vaccines cause autism illustrates the

Majority of the educator were from Northern and Western institution and had no concerns of a Negro,

corruption from their government, the apartheid and the African National Congress. The South African
people suffered from injustice and corruption in both white and black governments. The apartheid

The transition between the white autocratic repressive state to an inclusive and democratic black state
was a major turning point in South African history, but the country still faces injustice and corruption
within its government. The one that tackled and failed these challenges was the newly elected African
National Congress. The African National Congress (ANC) was created by the combined efforts of
Thomas Maphikela and Nelson Mendela (Perry). The redistribution programs that the ANC passed
with the good intention of returning money to the people have been exploited by corrupted officials
for personal gain. Little to none of the money that was supposedly for the citizens were pocketed by
corrupted officials. A similar policy that was passed to assist the impoverished was the Black
Economic Empowerment (BEE). The goal BEE was to build a free and fair democracy (Emkes). The
BEE was a way to address the inequalities that were committed in the apartheid system. It gave people
economic opportunities that were not available to them during the apartheid. The BEE was a failure
and caused the income inequality to widen, which resulted in the enrichment of a small group of black
shareholders. These shareholders acquired equity that is worth billions of Rand in South Africa s
largest companies for their own personal interests, while millions lived in poverty (Emkes). The rest

This created an acceptable environment to take extra which after a while became the norm.
Managers did not see a value in going against the norm, this would have caused increased tension with
the larger group and forced them to make a decision between friends and a job that didn t mean much.
With management allowing the group to continue the action it reaffirmed the acceptability and
strengthened the norm.
Objectives of Case Analysis * Freebies i.e. taking away food for free by employees and their friends:
Food for employees during their working hours was free. But, the employees had a habit to take food
for free after completion of their shift and also for their friends.
* Inventory was not maintained properly:
Student workers as well as Student managers were not in a habit to maintain the inventories of snacks
bar. This aided the employees to take food easily from the store.
* No written rules or guidelines:
Devil s den was running without any set rules and regulations. The employees were free to act the way
they wanted.
* Weak supervision by student managers:
As mentioned above, the student managers did not supervise the workers properly. Be it making
inventories, guiding workers for store management etc. they were neutral. * No training or supervision

and vote count, have on movies over the past 16 years. Using IBM Watson analytics, we are
discovering the trends and relationships between these variables and their effect on movies in the 2000
s. We start out by displaying how the relationship between budget and vote count by year, and its
effect on revenue. This report also examines the popularity of the movie industry over the last 16 years
by identifying trends in the relationship between release date and popularity of the movies. Next, we
look how the budgets for these movies have changed over the last 16 years. By studying these factors,
we can better understand how the budget, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1 Driver category vote count was the top factor at 39%. In the 2 Driver category vote count was
also included in the budget. Both were the main two factors that were at 54% that drove revenue
upward. Overall, if the film industry produces a must see movie and sells a ton of movie tickets cause
of the popularity the revenue that the film industry gains is higher.
Figure 2.
This graph is a circle graph, and deals with the budget as the main factor. The graph shows a steady
budget through the years of 2000 2002, and from 2003 2011 you can see a major growth in the budget
that had one down year in 2007. 2012 2014 showed the highest amount of the budget allocated for
movies within the time period and then fell back down to normal in 2015. This graph really explains
how the budget for productions have grown since the year 2000 and how there has been various
advancements and money put into movie productions in present day times and how the value of the
budget has increased.
Figure 3.
According to the line graph in Figure 3, popularity does not have a specific trend. The graph shows
the popularity of movies over the years, which displays how popularity is constantly increasing and
decreasing. Although in the majority of the years the popularity is increasing, there is a trend of
popularity decreasing for one or two years at a time, and then there is exponential growth of
popularity

In the New York Times article I Owe It All to Community College: Tom Hanks on His Two Years at
Chabot College published January 2015, the author Tom Hanks talks about his experience in
Community College. The article being published in the New York Times was directed at an older
group of people. Hanks begins the article effectively persuading the reader that Community College
changes the lives of the students who attend. Hanks addressed his experience at a two year junior
college in Hayward, California with positive critique. Hanks succeeds with his claims of community
college being a alternative to students in search of a afforable higher education, through his use of
ethos, pathos, and logos.
Readers naturally respond to credible authors when reading articles, autobiographies or novels; it is an
channel for audiences to connect to their narrators. When famous actor and director Tom Hanks writes
an article for New York Times , it will not be disregarded and will grip the attention of readers
instantly due to his credibility. By Tom Hanks fame for his award winning movies and roles, his

Too much Tolerance Essay
Too much Tolerance
Dogmatic Tolerance = Hypocritical
Tolerance. It is a word synonymous with peace, good will, brotherly love, acceptance and forgiveness.
It is a virtue that is essential in a world filled with racial and religious discrimination. But at the same
time tolerance, or, more specifically, the modern, politically correct definition of tolerance, holds some
very dangerous pitfalls which, if our government, and we, as a people are not careful of, could be
crippling to the individualism, and the religious diversity of Canada, and the world.
The dictionary definition of tolerance is: The capacity for, or the practice of recognizing and
respecting the beliefs or practices of others , but the definition has become much, ... Show more

But incompatibility will be wiped away, and anything that is sure, or real will be snuffed out as narrow
mindedness.
You see, complete tolerance is impossible. By being so dogmatically tolerant as to state that there is
no complete truth, is to, because of the nature of that statement, exclude, or be intolerant towards those
whose beliefs state otherwise. Complete tolerance is an oxymoron, and is incompatible with many
religious beliefs including Christianities, whose bible clearly states that it is the only true religion . In
that case, total tolerance is not only impossible, it also limits the ability of many to worship fully in
their religion. The government is passing through various bills and amendments that are pushed
through in the name of tolerance, but, in fact, according to the true definition if it is still permissible to
say such a thing these bills are decreasing the amount of tolerance that our government has towards
groups whose ideas qualify as hate literature.
That is why we need to act. Tolerance is good, but tolerance under the label that society has given it
will become harmful to the public, and to the church. Racism is horrible, yes. Religious discrimination
is illegitimate, of course. Words and names such as Apartheid , the Catholic Crusades and Bloody
Mary will not be forgotten or missed, but if our path continues down the road it is traveling, tolerance
will be grouped into a section of the English language that

The Wife of Bath s Reflexive Contradiction for Sexual...
The Wife of Bath s Reflexive Contradiction for Sexual Equality in the Canterbury Tales The Wife of
Bath has been described and depicted as an independent proto feminist who long ago led the charge
for sexual equality. Chaucer s visionary protagonist was a refreshing and modern look at women s
rights in the fifteenth century. She spends much of her prologue breaking down stereotypical barriers
that have confined women of her time to passive and subservient roles in her society. As a result, her
prologue, if standing alone, can be noted as one of the great calls for female independence in historical
literature. But upon viewing her works as a whole, her section of the General Prologue, her prologue

description of the sadness around the day of the marriage, all the while opposing the Wife s former

Mechanisms Of Logistic Growth In Relation To Locust Swarms
Exponential Growth is shaped in a J form, this type of growth curve occurs when supplies and
materials to a specific population are abundant. Since usually environments are not idealized and
resources are limited, exponential growth curve doesn t occur as much as a logistic growth curve.
Logistic growth is a type of growth curve,in a S form, that occurs more often in an environment. Since
each environment has a carrying capacity, which is the number of individuals from a population an
environment can hold, the logistic growth is the most logical way to represent a population size over
time. An example of a population size that could be represented by an exponential growth curve are
mice. Since mice reproduce many offspring at the time of reproduction the population size will
exponentially grow, however since mice also have a high predation rate the exponential curve starts
rapidly decreasing over a period of time. An example of a population size that could be represented by
a logistic growth curve are lions. Usually when lions reproduce only a few offspring are created.
However, once an environment reaches its carrying capacity, the population size decreases as the
environment can t sustain the entire population and the fittest survive.
2) The two mechanisms of density dependent regulation that most directly relate to locust swarms is
predation and competition for resources. Locust swarms are animals that have many animals feeding
on them such as ant lions. If the

Free Will and Determinism
The problem of free will and determinism is a mystery about what human beings are able to do. The
best way to describe it is to think of the alternatives taken into consideration when someone is
deciding what to do, as being parts of various alternative features (Van Inwagen). Robert Kane argues
for a new version of libertarianism with an indeterminist element. He believes that deeper freedom is
not an illusion. Derk Pereboom takes an agnostic approach about causal determinism and sees himself
as a hard incompatibilist. I will argue against Kane and for Pereboom, because I believe that Kane
struggles to present an argument that is compatible with the latest scientific views of the world. Robert
Kane begins by explaining that there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If described from a physical perspective, free will looks like chance. However, the indeterministic
chaotic process is also, experientially, the agent s effort of will something the agent is doing. The
agent s choice is something that the agent does and not something that happens to the agent.
Therefore, the choice reflects the agent s effort, even though the outcome is not yet determined. Kane
ends his argument by saying that these reflections naturally raise further questions about whether the
indeterminism required by an incompatibilist theory of free will is actually there in the brain and that
every undetermined, self forming, free choice is the initiation of what might be called a value
experiment whose justification lies in the future and is not fully explained by past reasons. Derk
Pereboom s position is an agnostic approach about causal determinism. He contends that if causal
determinism were true, we do not have the sort of free will required for moral responsibility. As a hard
compatibilist, he believes that life without this kind of free will need not preclude a sense of meaning
based on morality, and, in some respects, it could even be support it. When arguing against
compatibilism, Pereboom first defines compatibilism as free will of the type required for moral
responsibility. He says that it is compatible with determinism and that compatibilists will say that we
do in fact have this sort of free will. He then defines a libertarianist as someone

What does the villain do that does not appeal to the watcher? Hero: a person who, in the opinion of
others, has special achievements, abilities, or a personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or
ideal. Well, a twisted hero is a leader who gets tasks done with different tactics, compared to others. In
society, heros are shown doing all good and no bad. But, throughout Our Twisted Hero by Yi Munyol,
Sokdae is the character that saves the class while simultaneously ruining the students mentally and

Throughout the book, Han explains the actions carried out by Sokdae to make the class number one.
He was nice and appealing to the adults, but to the students he was a big scary monitor. Han says,
Clearly he beat the boys and abused them..... he had the excuse that he was acting with the teacher s

Mount Hood Case Study

people wondering how so many lost their lives in a seemingly simple trip. In doing this we are able to
see how this disaster could have been prevented allowing us to learn from the mistakes of this tragic

Those who survived the tragedy bring the voice of what it was really like up on the mountain to life.
The parents of students who didn t survive bring the feeling of grief and the opinion that the school
was never prepared enough to take kids up the mountain (Hallman, 2014). Though some hold the
school responsible, others believe that the leaders provided were adequate as was the equipment. The
media also provides an interesting view into the climb. Because they bring the voices of the parents,
community, and survivors together, the recordings from May 12th through 15th prove to be valuable
when dissecting the events that occurred. Newspapers, magazines, and television reports all freeze this
disaster in place among the records of Mount Hood. Finally, the voices of the public provide
interesting insight on the climbers and leaders who failed to come back home. Through contrasting
views of Summers, Goman, and Horwell, the trip leaders, we learn that not everyone believed them to
be fit to guide the trip. By comparing these multiple viewpoints, it becomes clear that if the group had
taken the correct precautions and listened to the weather report, they may be alive

Oscar Wilde Satire
Oscar Wilde s play An Ideal Husband (1893) is of a genre that is unlikely to ever fade out; the
dramatic comedy. Wilde utilises melodramatic language to explore several heavy subjects such as
compassion and empathy but there is no doubting that the play is of the romantic comedy genre. And
this is concreted by the fact that this is a play that not only comments on society but makes comedy of
people s faults and bad habits via the employment of the comedic conventions satire. Oscar Wilde
effectively blends these comedic devices into the play s melodramatic drawing room comedy , which
traditionally features upper class people in social and family situations of which Wilde was considered

In the short story The Yellow Wallpaper , Charlotte Perkins Gilman, talks about a woman who is

because John has a baby to look after and Jennie is the house keeper so she has other things she could
be doing. The ending and also the climax of the story, to be precise, it s when her husband comes in
and she s creeping round and round the wall. She says I kept on creeping just the same, but I looked at
him over my shoulder. I ve got out at last, said I, in spite of you and Jane. And I ve pulled off most of
the wallpaper, so you can t put me back! (251) As your reading this you can just tell that by making

Debra Actus Reus Of Murder
LL4002 Criminal Law,Feb.Start
Though there is no definite definition of Murder but according to Lord Justice Coke, is the unlawful
killing of a reasonable creature in rerum natura under the King s peace, with malice aforethought...
The prosecution would be able to prove Debra committed the actus reus of murder by causing
grievous bodily harm. In this question, Debra inflicts unlawful harm by slamming the frying pan on
Viktor s head, which is the actus reus of murder. Debra has factual and legal cause of Viktor s death.
But for her actions, he would not have died in (White [1910]2, KB 124). Her actions were operating
and substantial cause of his death (Smith [1959]2, QB 35). Debra is legally liable for the cause of the
result. The prosecution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

D s ability to do one or more of the things (Lloyd [1966]) i) be able to understand the nature of his
conduct ii) form a rational judgement iii) exercise self control, as in the case of Bryne (1960). d) The
abnormality must be able to provide an explanation to the cause of killing. Debra bears the legal
burden of proof to prove this defence on a balance of probability that she was suffering from
diminished responsibility at the time. In this scenario, she is suffering from long term anxiety and
stress disorder which she is receiving treatment from her GP and a psychologist. This is a recognised
medical condition. It is very likely that Debra will be able to rely on this defence if she is able to
present a certification, a medical report from a recognised psychiatrist. The fact that Debra has been
subjected to criticism and verbal abuse throughout the marriage this pressure has substantially
impaired her rational judgement, which made her not to understand her irrational judgement, in her
head she wants to silence Viktor

Paul Goldberger s Disconnected Urbanism
Life in the city is often chaotic and fast paced. It is as quick as a television dinner. Often, people are
forgetting the art of appreciation. Things go unnoticed like a pebble under a shoe, like sparkling
windows on corporate buildings. Now, people are typically giving more time to their technological
devices which is not necessarily a terrible thing. If anything, it speaks more of an imbalance. There is
a wider disconnect in every day social interactions (communications) and public spaces (location). It
has been noted by a creator of public spaces, Goldberger, that people are there but not there . They
have closed themselves off from experiencing what is right in front of them. For example, the average
adult spends seven hours on a technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
J. Kennedy poem Death of a window Washer explores the social side of human nature with its poetry.
The irony of this works attests more of the apathetic nature of people rather than a socializing
community or another urban area. He dropped the way you d slam an obstinate sash. His split belt like
a shade unrolling, flapping . Instead of the sentences being overly flowery like Goldberger s essay,
they are direct and blunt which gives this poem its own eye catching effect. Additionally, there is a
common misinterpretation that the nameless, window washer committed suicide by jumping off the
ledge. This misinterpretation could arise from the window washer s death being viewed by a person in
the city or because the individuals receive more attention in the story He d made the city pause briefly
to suffer . Initially, readers believe the washer s death pains the city. However, by the next line His
taking ample room for once. In rather a tedious while the rinsed street, left to dry . the citizens are
more affected by the problems the window washer caused than actual care or concern for him. His
untimely death is as bothersome as stain on a shirt; hard to rinse off. They are left with displeasure of
dealing with his death. The people suffer as they impatiently wait for the removal of his corpse. His
legacy is mute: one final gleaming pane of glass . Why is his legacy mute? He was a human being that
contributed to society; he cleaned a public space. If someone

The Actions Of The For An Unstable Government
With consideration of the two teenagers that became pregnant and now beg to come home. There
should be some understanding of obligation and the outcome of course, by some individuals, and does
not mean just citizens of your country ( yourself ) or your ( neighbor ) consider freedom fighting, and
realize that you as an unmentored terrorist, even have the capability of taking someones life. Given the
possibility that for yourself you would take up a fight that is ravered as death or do and would you
allow an undertaking of peace, to fight for an unstable government? The possiblities should be further
reviewed and reaserched and allowed to come back home. I know that sounds a rigid but I am
attempting to drive the point, if all actions are condemned and evaluated, by the Grand Jury and not
ascertained that a common factor of guilt by observation, was not committing acts as terrorist, peace
should then be upon them. The actions of ISIS cannot be upheld based on merit or belief that religion
was used in the governing factor, for the beginning of what was called World War III. Belief that ISIS
was in fact, a free nation, and the land was cursed by even if they did not follow strict religious
teachings. For centuries there has been a war involving religion and cults, while using culture and
social society. There seems to be in fact a following that is controlled with demons or spirituality wars

A Beautiful Young Woman Steps Down From The Horse Drawn...
A beautiful young woman steps down from the horse drawn carriage, one foot touching down onto the
rough ground outside her second home. As she looks around, she cannot help soaking in all the
wonderful scenery surrounding her. The fabulously large trees too tall to climb perfectly blanketing
the hillside in the distance. The sky clear, blue and bright with a few lingering perfectly formed cotton
clouds. The trees just starting to turn from their deep green to shades of orange, yellow and brown.
The grazing grass that surrounds still the brightest shade of green imaginable. There are many at this
entrance of the castle, standing tall and at attention to welcome this young woman home. She feels as
though she has been absent for too long. Everyone looks so different, and she feels they must think the
same of her. She was just a young lady of thirteen when she was sent away in hiding, but now she is
seventeen and has matured into a young woman. She moves slowly taking her first few steps, and
approaches the handsome young man in front of her. Their eyes connect with one another, and the
connection is not to be broken despite every distraction surrounding the two. They are both
remembering their younger days. The days of a boy meeting a girl. The days of holding hands as they
ran up and down these grounds just for play. The days of so much laughter, games, and unconditional
affection. Oh how they had missed each other s company, and both feel the calm on their

Three Great Characteristics Of Canada
Social Studies Essay
Three Great Characteristics of Canada
Canada s countless characteristics undoubtedly makes it one of the most amazing countries in the
world. With three territories and ten provinces, our home and native land is home to over thirty five
million people from an endless amount of backgrounds and nationalities. Canada is widely seen as a
painfully polite country, a place with a terribly cold climate and meticulously clean cities. These
stereotypes might hold some truth, but realistically, our northern home is a place to be admired
because of its safety and freedom. Numerous people have taken this country for granted, but realizing
how fortunate we all are to live in an environment such as Canada s, is a privilege and an ... Show

Canada has massive mountains, freezing cold tundra, endless prairies, powerful oceans, even cold and
warm deserts. Not only do we have such diverse geographical places, but landscapes that are quite
well known in some other areas of the world. Two examples of this would be the excellent ski and
snowboard resorts nestled among the mountains in British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Ontario, or
the surfing beaches along the coast of British Columbia. Many people think that Canada s climate is
extremely cold all the time, but really that is only accurate in the northern part of Canada where there
is definitely colder weather. The southern area of Canada still encounters snow and minus forty
degrees in winter, but at shorter durations than in the north. On the other hand, in the southern parts of
our country we do face warmer temperatures. In the Western provinces such as Manitoba,
Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, we have had our share of what we would call heat
waves, with temperatures up to forty degrees celsius. In the very southern part of British Columbia
lies the Osoyoos desert which reaches high temperatures during summer months. The Osoyoos desert
is not the only desert in Canada though, the Arctic tundra is sometimes referred to as a cold and harsh
desert with permafrost and minimal plant and animal life. Although our mountains may not be as

A Time That Has Changed The Life Of Farmers
In a time that was not that long ago, in a village that wasnt that far from this one. There live a young
boy, Skylar, and his parents. They lived the hardworking life of farmers. They worked from sunup to
sundown, only stopping to eat a simple lunch of bread and water. On there good days they may even
have the luxury of an apple. Skylar s parents could not afford to pay help while Skylar was in school,
and he told them that he did not want them to struggle for him. So he never went. This devastated him.
But he would never tell anyone, or let it show. He knew if he did, he would break his parent s heats.
One day while walking to the market to get the water from the town well and the food for the day he
started to think about books and his farming chores. He was no longer paying attention to where he
was going and he bumped into someone. Skylar frantically said Oof. Sorry, sorry. I wasn t looking
where.. as he spoke he looked up and saw a girl around the same age as him. He had seen her around
town before but never really noticed her. Oh no. Its entirely my fault. I was reading my book on the
way to school. I wasn t watching where I was going. She sounded very flustered as she gathered up
her school books and her lunch.
He thought to himself I suppose this is what people call pretty.
Her curly blonde hair was tied down in pigtails. She was wearing a simple blue dress with a white
ribbon around the middle of her dress the ends of which met in the middle of her

Dr. Indrani Bose s Seminar, “Using RNA Interference to...
On Friday, January 31, 2014 Dr. Indrani Bose gave a seminar about her area of research, and discussed
her research objectives. The title of the seminar was Using RNA Interference to Understand the
Virulence and Biology of the Yeast Cryptococcus neoformans . At the beginning, she first compared
and contrasted the budding yeasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Cryptococcus neoformans.
According to Dr. Bose in the mini review, A Yeast under Cover: the Capsule of Cryptococcus
Neoformans, C. neoformans is a fungus that is ubiquitous in the environment, where it is found in soil,
in association with certain trees, and in bird guano (16) (1). She also stated because of its ubiquity, that
most people had probably been exposed to it from a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bose stated that her long term goal is to discover better drugs to eradicate this disease from developing
in humans. She intends to do this by identifying the genes that are involved in the disease process, and
assessing their function. From that point she will attempt to discover or design drugs to inhibit these
genes from functioning. There are several factors that affect the virulence of Cryptococcus
neoformans; from its polysaccharide capsule, to its ability to grow at high temperatures, and its
formation of melanin. The last two factors are absolutely necessary to the pathogenicity of the fungi
(1).
The Dr. Bose discussed RNA Interference. She said that RNA Interference is used as a tool for
forward genetics , and that it selectively destroys specific mRNAs, which in turn creates knock down
phenotypes. Forward genetics is the random inactivation of 1 2 genes at a time, allowing for
selectivity of the phenotype. At this point, she began to describe the results from running RNA
interference on the Cryptococcus neoformans genome. She discovered that there was too much
expression of ADE 2, so she developed a stable marker, URA 5. The URA 5 selected for robust RNA
Interference. She discovered that the cells that did well with URA 5 would survive treatment with 5
fluororotic acid, and the cells that did poorly with URA 5 would not survive the treatment. She also
determined that silencing was RDP1 dependent. RDP1 is a wild type gene.
Then she developed a library

What a star, What a Jerk is a Harvard Business review case study which deals with the basic human
attributes of attitude and behaviour and the closely intertwined connection among the two. The case
tries to highlight one of the most common issues faced by organisations, that is, how to handle a star
performer who has a rash and bullying attitude towards others in an organisation. The basic and the
most important managerial roles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pros: * Andy may open up with other employees, which may lead to change in his attitude. * By
creating a competitive environment this may lead to motivating other employees. Cons: * May make
Andy more grandiose about himself. * Initially it may demotivate other employees by the appreciation
of the rudest employee. * It may look like unfair to praise the most ill behaved personality, just
because he is a performer. 4. Initiative needed on Jane s part. Jane should tell Andy that a positive and
a healthy work environment is one of the most important aspects of their organization, and his
numbers are not sufficient to tag him as their star employee. Moreover Jane should realise herself that
managing people is what is expected of an efficient manager. Pros: * Being an effective manager will
help Jane give more inputs to an organisation as an effective manager. * The productivity of Jane s
team and herself will improve if she learns how to handle people better. Cons: * Andy might feel that
he is being targeted. * His performance may get affected due to the demotivation that may come along
with Jane s attitude towards him. The Best Solution: In this scenario, we as a group propose the fourth
solution as the best possible one according to which it is Jane herself who has to take an initiative and
confront Andy directly stating him clearly what kind of

Miley Cyrus s Brand Identity Essay
Miley Cyrus s brand identity and start text was configured through her years on her hit sitcom. She
was known as a young sweet innocent teenage girl that believed in love. Through her evolution she
created herself a new star text that was the polar opposite of what she was previously thought of. Her
new star text was completely self and media driven. She is currently identifying herself with
heartbreak, drugs, activism and nonconformity. The extreme change of start text shocked and
dismayed individuals. Many social media users and celebrity journalist wrote the transformation of,
implying it as a lost girl in her twenties making mistakes she will eventually regret. Despite the
negative comments she has embraced her star text using it for free publicity and media attention.
Miley Cyrus purposefully modified her star text in order to make it in the music industry, she targeted
a new market and generation using her controversial change bootsing her self success, making her one
of the greatest known evolved celebrities on a mass media level.
To illustrate, Many still remember Miley Cyrus as the sweet pop star and down to earth character from
her role as Hannah Montana on Disney Channel. At some point many fans believed that the
personality of Miley Cyrus was matched her role on Hannah Montana. In her honest interviews and
real encounters with fans, people connected with her innocence and deemed her as a suitable role
model for girls her age. In one of her interviews she

Response To The Existence Of God Analysis
Response to the Argument of the Existence of God
Tamara Alston, RN
Liberty University Online
Phil 201 Fall B 2016
Does God Exist? In the Article On Being an Atheist , McCloskey refers to the arguments defending
the existence of God as proofs . He also believes that because none of the arguments can absolutely
prove the existence of God, that we should deny them all and the existence of God (McCloskey,
1968). Foreman addresses this dilemma in his presentation Approaching the Question of God s
Existence. Foreman states that there is no absolute proof of God s existence but there are many things
in the universe that are best explained by the existence of God. All arguments in the defense of the
existence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Craig s The Absurdity of Life without God , he gives us multiple reasons why McCloskey s claim is
absurd. Without God there is no hope of life beyond the life we know. Man must die eventually, but
without God the grave is the absolute end. This means that our life has no purpose or value (Craig,
2008). If we are all awaiting the end, then it doesn t matter that we even existed. Mankind is no more
significant than bees or snakes, creatures that do not have a soul. Our end would all be the same
(Craig, 2008). We need God and immortality for our lives to be significant. Even if we lived forever,
without God it would all be meaningless (Craig, 2008). Without God our life would have no value
because it would not matter if we were a good person or an evil one. Assuming that the grave is the
end, there would be no incentive to do good deeds or to be a good person. All morals would be
pointless. Without God there also is no purpose to life (Craig, 2008). There would be no reason for our
existence and we would be here by chance. We would have nothing in our future except death. We
cannot be happy and consistent if we were sure that life is meaningless because there is no God
(Craig, 2008). If God does exist, then life is meaningful with value, purpose, and

  • 2. Facts About Self Harm Facts about self harm, have been kept out of view from the public eye for far longer, than society should be proud of, Self harm is a serious issue, not just a desperate attention seeking cry, which is what a great many have lead so many to believe. What can be defined as self harm, how many have engaged in self harm, why do they do it, and just what exactly is self harm? Is it a mental illness, a cry for attention or maybe something else? According to a study published in the journal Pediatrics, an average of 1 in every 5 people has engaged in some form of non¬ suicidal self¬ injury, including but not limited to cutting, burning, hair pulling and punching (Domanick). Apparently self harm isn t as uncommon we had originally been lead to be, if even 1 in every 5 people can self harm, that just means society hasn t been as observant as we like to believe. Anyone can self harm, from distinguished politician, to a humble beggar on the streets, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous research indicates some hospitals and emergency departments have no access to mental health professionals, he said. Also, staff will often minimize the seriousness of self harm, especially if patients have presented in the recent past (Kowalski). Its sad to think, that most hospital staff, do not show any compassion or even attempt to understand what those who self harm are truly going through, because in their eye s it s just a cry for attention. And if someone is so willing to cause themselves harm, just to receive attention, they might have a mental disorder that has yet to be treated. So maybe it s time to take another look into self harm, and see exactly what the causes are and how they just might be an issue that can be called mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Similarities Between Equations And Inequalities In Algebra, we have been learning about Equations and Inequalities, and how you can solve them in the same ways. Though, They re both very similar and both very different in their own ways, which makes it difficult to find the differences. But, There are also many similarities between them. The way that the two are similar is that you can solve both problems the same way, for example: If you had 2x + 2 = 10 You d solve it by subtracting 2 with 10, which would result in an 8. 2x + 2 = 10 2x = 8 After this, you d divide 2 with 2, and 2 with 8, which would give you a 4. So the answer would be X = 4. So 4 would be the only answer. 2x + 2 = 10 2x = 8 X = 4 If you did this with an IneQuality, it would turn out the same, except if you divide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since its all numbers less than 4, we d have an open circle since it isn t equal to 4. And there s an arrow pointing towards the left since its all numbers less than 4. But, if it was all numbers greater than 4, it would be like this: 3 4 5 Despite the two having a couple differences and a couple similarities, both can be used in the world around us, since, depending on the symbol you use, you d still get the same answer nonetheless. However, there still are more differences between the two. Even if you do the Math equation the same, the symbols can cause the answer to shift, and make it so the two aren t the same. For example: If you used 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1 ) You d start by multiplying the 6 by 2, since the 6 is next to a parenthesis symbol, which would give you 12, and you d multiply the 6 with 1, which would give you 6 in return.
  • 4. 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1) 12x + 6 = 12x+6 tHEN, YOU D SUBTRACT 12 BY ITSELF, AND WITH THE OTHER 12, WHICH WOULD MAKE THE ANSWER 6 = 6, MAKING IT AN INFINITE SOLUTION. 12x + 6 = 6 (2x+1) 12x + 6 = 12x+6 6 = 6 bUT, IF YOU DID THIS WITH AN INEQUALITY, YOU D GET A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ... • 5. Euthyphro And Pious Analysis First Reading Response Socrates meets Euthyphro outside of the courthouse and begin discussing the nature of impious and pious acts. Euthyphro claims to be an expert on these matters so he agrees to help Socrates understand piety better. Euthyphro s first definition is the pious is to do what I am doing now, to prosecute the wrongdoer, be it about murder. (5d) Socrates objects to this saying that this would only counts as an instance of piety, and he is more interested in a universal element of all pious acts. Euthyphro elaborates to say that piety is what all the gods love, and impiety is what all the gods hate. (6e) Socrates rebukes that there are matters that some of the gods love, while other gods may hate. Socrates objects saying that gods disagree on issues, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Euthyphro then offers a third definition; Piety is what all the gods love, and Impiety is what all the gods hate. (9d) Socrates opens up his objection by asking is the pious being loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is being loved by the gods? (10a) This is the premise to his argument about the difference in being loved and loving something. To explain his point further Socrates uses numerous examples of carrying and being carried. To be carried one must first be carrying something. The same goes for verbs that affect others, for instance to be seen one must first be seeing something. The carrying must be going on before something can be called carried. So something is loved when someone is loving it. It cannot be loved before something has loved it. Euthyphro agrees that the pious is being loved by the gods because it is pious. Socrates then looks to the second option of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The American Citizens Opinion and the War in Vietnam The opinion of the citizens of the United States began to change as time passed and incidents took place. The government misled the people, the people became dissatisfied with the current situation and families were torn apart. As American got sucked deeper into the war, Americans wanted to get out more badly. The growth of anti war movements was caused by a mixture of different factors. The decline of support for the Vietnam War mainly started in 1968. Although antiwar movements in the United States had been occurring before, the Tet Offensive opened the eyes of countless people. General Westmoreland had assured the public that the war was going to come to a swift end soon, that there was light at the end of the tunnel . But on January ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The killings touched off protests at hundreds of college campuses across the United States; many of these also turned violent, and two more students were killed in mid May at Jackson State University in Mississippi. The antiwar movements brought tension between classes. Some people tried to get desk work jobs in the military, doing paperwork or typing things to avoid being on the front line. The majority of soldiers fighting in the war were young people with little education from lower class families. The deaths at protests made political decision making difficult. Congress tried passing laws that limited the Presidents power. By the mid 1960 s, television was how the American public got their source of news. In 1964, 58% of Americans got most of their news from television. And by 1972, that number rose to 64%. Media had a huge effect on the popular opinion of US citizens. Before the Tet Offensive took place, the media supported the effort at Vietnam. Reporting of military victories and progress. At that time, there was no military censorship which meant that journalists could follow soldiers to the front lines and report their observations without going through the government. • 7. The Survival of the Rock Hyrax in Urban Areas RATIONALE Urbanisation poses a threat to wildlife through habitat destruction and population fragmentation. As a consequence, urbanisation alters the distribution of species. Yet, urbanisation creates opportunities for some species to thrive and persist in the urban jungle. Many species have adapted to urban areas across the globe. However, not all animals living in urban areas adapt to urban life and instead might be confined to refugia that match the pre existing adaptation to natural conditions. Therefore, studying the occurrence and persistence of wildlife in urban areas might provide an understanding how some species can survive urbanisation (Chace Walsh 2006; Sih 2013; Sol et al. 2013; Fontúrbel Tarifa 2013). Wildlife can become pests in urban areas. For invasive species, these conflicts arise because they exploit newly available niches. For example, cane toads, Bufo marinus, in Australia, red foxes, Vulpes vulpes, across the globe, and grey squirrels, Sciurus carolinensis, in Britain (Barr et al. 2002; Saunders et al. 2010; Bateman Fleming 2012). However, for indigenous species, these conflicts can arise through habituation to people which could lead to these species being viewed as pests due to their behaviours conflicting with human interests. For example, European badgers, Meles meles, in British residential properties during foraging and sett construction (Ward et al. 2008). My study is concerned with establishing how species can survive in urban ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Improving An Employee s Stress Level Is Through Supervision Alternatively, one of the most common methods used to manage an employee s stress level is through supervision. As previously stated, social workers who work within the child welfare system can use daily debriefing based on the critical incidents that occur with this population. For example, from personal experience of being a supervisor over case managers working with children, supervision was crucial not only for myself but for the caseworkers. The caseworkers were able to release their emotions, concerns, and possible fears when dealing with their clients and their family. Huss (2012) shows how employees use supervision to cope and discuss stressful situations, however, it is explained how supervision is beginning to suddenly decrease. Huss (2012) describes how supervision is beginning to decrease, which can be due to the possible lack of supervisory positions or funding. This is an example of why the current practices, i.e. EPA, supervision, and OD, need to change within organizations. Based on personal experience, in order to help manage an employees stress, an organization needs to ensure that their staff has the tools needed to work efficiently and effectively. Organizations must be aware of the stress that can be caused by the policies, regulations and conflicting demands of the external and internal factors that influence an employee s work (Dextras Gautier, Marchand, Haines, 2012). Furthermore, organizational SMIs encompass the leadership of administration, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Designers and Manufacturers Should Rethink and Redesign... This is a book by two researchers who are trying to find ways to build and make things that are friendlier to the environment. Their approach is very different from the usual ecological approach, which, as put by McDonough and Braungart, is to be less bad. The regular approach has normally been to just reduce the amount of toxins in a product, or trying to collect and recycle goods, or adding expensive and bulky fixes to already existing systems. But not in this book; the authors idea is that designers and manufacturers should instead try to rethink and redesign the materials that they make with their end uses in mind. By using nontoxic materials that can also easily break down into quality materials, this creates byproducts that can be reused to manufacture quality items. The authors also recommend the planning of buildings and industrial complexes to use the environment that surrounds them for things like heating, cooling, and design. One of the strengths of the book is that the suggestions here are not just hypothetical situations. In fact, the book itself is made of a certain kind of polymer plastic and is also printed with nontoxic inks that can be easily washed off, which makes the material made available to produce another book. The authors have also worked on much bigger projects, such as the redesigning of the Ford facility in Michigan, based on these kinds of principles. The book is not only positive but also specific on how to design and manufacture things for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Middle Ages Manorialism When the Roman Empire ended, Europe was thrown into a period filled with new societies and ways of life. Many rulers were in control of land and there was no centralized government or leader. Their political structure took a step backwards with systems such as feudalism and manorialism, and the kingdoms were extremely unstable. But later, Kings became more powerful, the economy and trade improved, and nation states began. There were many different leadership styles and rulers during the Middle Ages. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe needed stability, so feudalism began. Feudalism impacted the military and political structures of this time. In this system, everybody had their own place. Owners of large tracts of land (kings and lords) gave some of their land away to knights and nobles known as vassals in exchange for protection and loyalty, and many of these vassals became lords of lands by giving land to less powerful vassals. Many people in this system were both lords of land and vassals, and people were still respected as vassals. Even a king might be a vassal; John of Britain was vassal to King Philip of France for certain French lands, yet he in no way thought himself inferior to Philip. Every time she read it in her mind or out loud, it brought a sense of epiphany for her. Bridget read the quote out loud to herself again: Maybe there is a beast... maybe it s only us. • 13. The Media And Health And Safety Of The World s Population Over the years, the advances in science have increased the health and safety of the world s population. Through the introduction of vaccines, medicines, and other medical equipment, the scientific world has prevented the spread of diseases, the possibility of an epidemic, and another devastating pandemic in history like the black plague. Although vaccines provide a resistance to diseases, many people question the safety of them. There is a famous theory that vaccines cause autism due to the chemicals within the vaccines, even though scientific evidence denies any connection. One of the reasons that this theory still exists is due to the portrayal of information from the media. Based on the opinion of the media outlet, the depiction of the vaccine autism link changes throughout society. The media is typically the main source of information for citizens, whether they watch a news channel, read a newspaper, check online newspapers, or listen to the radio, these news outlet supply our population with the basis of knowledge on all topics. Not many people in this audience will conduct their own research, this means that the original data and information is usually summarized and changed to fit the opinion of the media outlet. The transition between the white autocratic repressive state to an inclusive and democratic black state was a major turning point in South African history, but the country still faces injustice and corruption within its government. The one that tackled and failed these challenges was the newly elected African National Congress. The African National Congress (ANC) was created by the combined efforts of Thomas Maphikela and Nelson Mendela (Perry). The redistribution programs that the ANC passed with the good intention of returning money to the people have been exploited by corrupted officials for personal gain. Little to none of the money that was supposedly for the citizens were pocketed by corrupted officials. A similar policy that was passed to assist the impoverished was the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE). The goal BEE was to build a free and fair democracy (Emkes). The BEE was a way to address the inequalities that were committed in the apartheid system. It gave people economic opportunities that were not available to them during the apartheid. The BEE was a failure and caused the income inequality to widen, which resulted in the enrichment of a small group of black shareholders. Mechanisms Of Logistic Growth In Relation To Locust Swarms Exponential Growth is shaped in a J form, this type of growth curve occurs when supplies and materials to a specific population are abundant. Since usually environments are not idealized and resources are limited, exponential growth curve doesn t occur as much as a logistic growth curve. Logistic growth is a type of growth curve,in a S form, that occurs more often in an environment. Since each environment has a carrying capacity, which is the number of individuals from a population an environment can hold, the logistic growth is the most logical way to represent a population size over time. An example of a population size that could be represented by an exponential growth curve are mice. Since mice reproduce many offspring at the time of reproduction the population size will exponentially grow, however since mice also have a high predation rate the exponential curve starts rapidly decreasing over a period of time. An example of a population size that could be represented by a logistic growth curve are lions. Usually when lions reproduce only a few offspring are created. However, once an environment reaches its carrying capacity, the population size decreases as the environment can t sustain the entire population and the fittest survive. 2) The two mechanisms of density dependent regulation that most directly relate to locust swarms is predation and competition for resources. However, the indeterministic chaotic process is also, experientially, the agent s effort of will something the agent is doing. The agent s choice is something that the agent does and not something that happens to the agent. Therefore, the choice reflects the agent s effort, even though the outcome is not yet determined. Kane ends his argument by saying that these reflections naturally raise further questions about whether the indeterminism required by an incompatibilist theory of free will is actually there in the brain and that every undetermined, self forming, free choice is the initiation of what might be called a value experiment whose justification lies in the future and is not fully explained by past reasons. Derk Pereboom s position is an agnostic approach about causal determinism. He contends that if causal determinism were true, we do not have the sort of free will required for moral responsibility. He killed many in the process of this. Sokdae was seen as good to adults but bad to the students. Like Sokdae, Alexander was seen as great by his people but bad by the people he killed. • 35. Mount Hood Case Study Analysis Now that the background of the disaster is known, we can begin to analyze its many components. From the leadership skills or lack thereof, to the heuristic traps the hikers fell into, to the many voices that bring multiple views of this climb to life, the 1986 Oregon Episcopal School climb is one that has people wondering how so many lost their lives in a seemingly simple trip. In doing this we are able to see how this disaster could have been prevented allowing us to learn from the mistakes of this tragic event. The leadership, group functioning, experience, and skill of the nineteen individuals who made their way up Mount Hood can be used to analyze the very basics of what went wrong atop the mountain. Though there was a trained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who survived the tragedy bring the voice of what it was really like up on the mountain to life. The parents of students who didn t survive bring the feeling of grief and the opinion that the school was never prepared enough to take kids up the mountain (Hallman, 2014). Though some hold the school responsible, others believe that the leaders provided were adequate as was the equipment. The media also provides an interesting view into the climb. Because they bring the voices of the parents, community, and survivors together, the recordings from May 12th through 15th prove to be valuable when dissecting the events that occurred. Newspapers, magazines, and television reports all freeze this disaster in place among the records of Mount Hood. Finally, the voices of the public provide interesting insight on the climbers and leaders who failed to come back home. Through contrasting views of Summers, Goman, and Horwell, the trip leaders, we learn that not everyone believed them to be fit to guide the trip. By comparing these multiple viewpoints, it becomes clear that if the group had taken the correct precautions and listened to the weather report, they may be alive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Oscar Wilde Satire Oscar Wilde s play An Ideal Husband (1893) is of a genre that is unlikely to ever fade out; the dramatic comedy. Wilde utilises melodramatic language to explore several heavy subjects such as compassion and empathy but there is no doubting that the play is of the romantic comedy genre. And this is concreted by the fact that this is a play that not only comments on society but makes comedy of people s faults and bad habits via the employment of the comedic conventions satire. Oscar Wilde effectively blends these comedic devices into the play s melodramatic drawing room comedy , which traditionally features upper class people in social and family situations of which Wilde was considered a master, to provoke thought on different societal subjects ... Things go unnoticed like a pebble under a shoe, like sparkling windows on corporate buildings. Now, people are typically giving more time to their technological devices which is not necessarily a terrible thing. If anything, it speaks more of an imbalance. There is a wider disconnect in every day social interactions (communications) and public spaces (location). It has been noted by a creator of public spaces, Goldberger, that people are there but not there . They have closed themselves off from experiencing what is right in front of them. Additionally, there is a common misinterpretation that the nameless, window washer committed suicide by jumping off the ledge. This misinterpretation could arise from the window washer s death being viewed by a person in the city or because the individuals receive more attention in the story He d made the city pause briefly to suffer . The title of the seminar was Using RNA Interference to Understand the Virulence and Biology of the Yeast Cryptococcus neoformans . At the beginning, she first compared and contrasted the budding yeasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Cryptococcus neoformans. According to Dr. Bose in the mini review, A Yeast under Cover: the Capsule of Cryptococcus Neoformans, C. neoformans is a fungus that is ubiquitous in the environment, where it is found in soil, in association with certain trees, and in bird guano (16) (1). Bose stated that her long term goal is to discover better drugs to eradicate this disease from developing in humans. She intends to do this by identifying the genes that are involved in the disease process, and assessing their function. From that point she will attempt to discover or design drugs to inhibit these genes from functioning. There are several factors that affect the virulence of Cryptococcus neoformans; from its polysaccharide capsule, to its ability to grow at high temperatures, and its formation of melanin. The last two factors are absolutely necessary to the pathogenicity of the fungi (1). The Dr. Bose discussed RNA Interference. She said that RNA Interference is used as a tool for forward genetics , and that it selectively destroys specific mRNAs, which in turn creates knock down phenotypes. Forward genetics is the random inactivation of 1 2 genes at a time, allowing for selectivity of the phenotype. At this point, she began to describe the results from running RNA interference on the Cryptococcus neoformans genome. She discovered that there was too much expression of ADE 2, so she developed a stable marker, URA 5. The URA 5 selected for robust RNA Interference. She discovered that the cells that did well with URA 5 would survive treatment with 5 fluororotic acid, and the cells that did poorly with URA 5 would not survive the treatment. She also determined that silencing was RDP1 dependent. RDP1 is a wild type gene. Then she developed a library ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Craig s The Absurdity of Life without God , he gives us multiple reasons why McCloskey s claim is absurd. Without God there is no hope of life beyond the life we know. Man must die eventually, but without God the grave is the absolute end. This means that our life has no purpose or value (Craig, 2008). If we are all awaiting the end, then it doesn t matter that we even existed. Mankind is no more significant than bees or snakes, creatures that do not have a soul. Our end would all be the same (Craig, 2008). We need God and immortality for our lives to be significant. Even if we lived forever, without God it would all be meaningless (Craig, 2008). Without God our life would have no value because it would not matter if we were a good person or an evil one. Assuming that the grave is the end, there would be no incentive to do good deeds or to be a good person. All morals would be pointless. Without God there also is no purpose to life (Craig, 2008). There would be no reason for our existence and we would be here by chance. We would have nothing in our future except death. We cannot be happy and consistent if we were sure that life is meaningless because there is no God (Craig, 2008). If God does exist, then life is meaningful with value, purpose, and ...
