The Effects Of European Integration On The Regional...
We can have a long list of regions within EU that are seeking for independence: Scotland, the Basque
Country, Catalonia, Flanders, Venetian, Bavarian, Corsica and more is coming. Although each case
has its distinct story, they have some common reasons for separatism, for example, due to long term
history tension, culture difference, different national identity perceived by people, minority groups
under representative and economic inequality. Besides, benefits such as regional sovereign are both
motivations and reasons for regions to secede. Many scholars also argue that the integration of Europe
is another spur of the independence movements. However, I will argue that the effect of European
integration on the regional independence is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its prosperous development of economy also draws labours from the rest of the state. However,
Catalans do not have the control of their own wealth. Every year Catalonia is taxed for about €20
billion, about 10% of Catalonia s GDP, by the Spanish government and never return back as social
investments (Srmava, 2014). The Spanish government use that money to subsidise other poorer
regions. Staying in Spain now become a brake to the development of Catalonia s economics. The
hypothesis for partition of Belgium is based on the similar story. The state is divided by language and
history and economics inequality into Flanders and Wallonia. The case for Scotland is a bit different as
people use the same language and share the culture. The two major arguments are the oil and currency.
North Sea oil and gas reserves can help Scotland to become one of the richest countries in the world
after independence. Moreover, Scotland led by Salmond wants to join the common currency union,
while the London based government does not. The former said this is for the good of everyone ,
because of removal obstacles for transaction within EU and increasing the competitiveness. The
Cameron government argued back that joining a currency union would reduce the autonomy of
economics, and the recent financial crisis showed the fragility of the euro system at the moment.
Although language and culture differences provide good reasons for separatism literally, in

Motherly Love Essay
Motherly Love
In the three stories we read by Flannery O Connor; The Comforts of Home , Everything That Rises
Must Converge , and The Enduring Chill , the major relationship portrayed was between mothers and
their hypersensitive sons. While all of the major characters, the sons, were noticeably similar, the
lesser characters of the mothers were also very alike in many ways. Many of their views, gestures and
outward qualities paralleled throughout the stories. After rereading all of the stories again I came to
the realization that the mothers O Connor wrote in her stories were variations of the same person.
One of the qualities that jump out first is that all three mothers are ... Show more content on

The boys feel that either their mother did not do a good enough job raising them or that she has
disrupted the proper pace of their lives. This is apparent in all the boys but especially confusing in the
case of Julian. At the beginning of the story he says he could have stood his lot better if she [his
mother] had been an old hag who drank and screamed at him (5) yet later talks about how there was
no reason for her to think she could always depend on him (14). While he feels that she raised him
well, he does not want her to feel that he will be there for her like she seems to have been there for
him. Asbury makes it very clear that he feels his mother was the unnerving force that lead to the
demise of his life. Upon his death, he wanted his mother to read a letter her wrote to her about what
she had done to him (91) but thought, that his mother would not understand the letter at once... he
thought she would be able to see that he forgave her for all that she had done to him (91). This
statement, like Julian s is not truly supported in any way. It appears in both stories that the boys
mothers did everything they possible could to give their children the best of life. Thomas, on the other
hand, does not feel quite as much observable loathing to his mother and says that he loved his mother.
He loved her because it was his nature to do so, but there were times when he could not endure her
love for him (118). Unlike the other

Anne Bradstreet s To The Memory Of My Dear And Ever...
In 1678, Anne Bradstreet wrote To the Memory of My Dear and Ever Honored Father Thomas Dudley
Esq. Who Deceased, July 31, 1653 and of His Age 77 , following her father s death. Throughout the
poem, Anne gives her readers a brief summary of her father and the relationship they shared. It it very
apparent that Bradstreet loved her father dearly and thought very highly of him. However, this was not
the only father she shared a relationship with. Anne also had a lifetime relationship with her heavenly
Father as well. Bradstreet was a devout woman of the Puritan religion. Puritanism was not only Anne s
religion, but it also served as the foundation on which she would live upon. Anne Bradstreet reconciles
with the death of her father, though her Puritanical views of materialism, righteousness, and
predestination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A great Puritan by the name of Thomas Watson once spoke the words, blessedness...does not lie in the
acquisition of worldly things. I suspect Bradstreet would have loved that quote, seeing that she too,
believed that happiness did not lie in possessions. Anne Bradstreet states, Upon the earth he did not
build his nest, / But as a pilgrim, what he had possessed (33 34). Just with those two lines, one can
already catch a glimpse of what kind of man Thomas Dudley was. Bradstreet is saying that her father
knew this was just his temporary home. Thomas Dudley knew that this was not his forever home, just
a stopping point along the way. Bradstreet goes on to say, His thoughts were more sublime, his actions
wise, / Such vanities, he justly did despise (47 48). In these lines, Bradstreet shows how her father
despises vanities, just as she did. Anne greatly infers that Thomas Dudley was not a materialistic man,
instead, he was a very humble man. He was less concerned with the vanities of life, and more
concerned with what God wanted for his

Avatar Imperialism
Money, military, death or subordinance, these are the main elements of imperialism. Imperialism, the
practice of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force, is often
thought of as negative because of the use of military force. The age of imperialism lasted from 1870
1914. One example of imperialism from this time period is when the countries Britain, France,
Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Spain all took control over different parts of Africa. One movie that
accurately portrays this ideal negatively is Avatar, a movie directed by James Cameron and released
on December 18, 2009. Avatar is about a group of ex military soldiers that travel to Pandora, an alien

Upward Bound Program
Community service is an act that should be done with an open heart. Although it was not recorded I
have done a few community services willingly. In high school, I was a part of a program for college
readiness, the Upward Bound Program. The program played an enormous role in my enrollment to
Florida International University, therefore I intend to keep in touch with them and I would pay them a
visit them during my free times. During the holiday season of 2016, I voluntarily helped with the
Christmas luncheon the Upward Bound Program conducted for the students currently in the program.
It was frankly an unprompted act, I ran into my close friend while going to the cafeteria for breakfast,

Before heading into the new year, I cleaned out my closet and sent many clothes that I have outgrown
to my younger relatives in Haiti. I was going to throw my clothes out, but I felt that it would be
awfully selfish of me to do so when I could recycle them and benefit my family. I consider myself a
caring and generous person, I feel pleased to see others content. Comedian Danny Thomas said this
quote, success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It is what you
do for others. I hold this quote near to me because I know the feeling of being content but have
individuals around me distressed. This distressed feeling influenced an unsettling feeling upon me, for
me true success is an authentic happiness from every individual. I cannot be complete and content,
while my brothers and sisters are empty and troubled. With this mindset, I try to be a helping hand for
everyone, especially the ones in need. One way I would love to put my generosity to use is by
assisting the less fortunate. I have heard of a place called Camillus House where they provide service

The Current State Of Our Cybersecurity Infrastructure
In recent year s law and policy makers have expressed alarm at the exponentially growing threat of
malicious traffic that has been traveling across the Internet. While most agree that something needs to
be done, consensus falls apart around the issues pertaining to cybersecurity policies, laws and
enforcement. This policy paper will briefly discuss the current state of our cybersecurity
infrastructure. The terms of malicious traffic, liability and its forms will defined, key components will
be introduced, the roles that the Internet Service Provider (ISP), software producer, end user, operating
systems developer play in this process will be examined and key legislation will be mentioned. These
key factors and research herein, help to supply that the liability should lie with the Internet Service
Provider should be sought.
Information in today s world seems vast and often times limitless yet acquiring that information has
become almost an effortless task since the arrival of the Internet. In the past 20 years this global
system of interconnected computer networks has grown by leaps and bounds. The Internet has
managed to provide the masses with an informational platform that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. It delivers whatever we may need, desire or want to know about with just a few simple clicks or
keystrokes. A technological medium that has become quite instrumental in our daily lives.

How Ultra s Customer Database Meets The Not Generally...
II. Not Generally Known or Readily Ascertainable
C A court is likely to find that Ultra s customer database meets the not generally known or readily
ascertainable element.
R In determining whether information is not generally known or readily ascertainable, courts consider
the following two Restatement factors: the extent to which the information is known outside of the
business and the ease or difficulty with which the information could be properly acquired or
duplicated by others. Al Minor, 117 Ohio St. 3d at 61 (citing Plain Dealer, 80 Ohio St. 3d at 524 25).
To determine whether the information is not generally known or readily ascertainable is if a trade
secret owner collected and/or compiled the information from a variety of sources, thus this may
support a finding that the information is not generally known or readily ascertainable. Salemi, 145
Ohio St. 3d at ¶29.
To determine whether a customer list is not generally known, it ordinarily includes not only the name
of a business or person but also information that is not generally available to the public, such as the
name of a contact person, a non public telephone or cell phone number, an email address, and other
data known only because of the relationship with the client. Salemi, 2014 Ohio 3914 at ¶18 (citing

Religious Foreshadowing in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte...
Religious Foreshadowing in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte Charlotte Brontë uses several different
symbols to foretell events that occur in Jane Eyre. For example, Brontë uses birds to represent
freedom, for which Jane longs and finally finds by the end of the novel. Fire is another symbol used
by Brontë: When Bertha sets Rochester s bed on fire, The image of fire might symbolize signifying
first sinfulness, then rebirth (Vaughon). The symbolism most fascinating, however, is the way in
which Brontë uses religion throughout the novel. Indeed, Jane s world revolves around religion, and it
foreshadows her life. Charlotte Brontë s own religious background is meaningful to the text. She was
raised in a religious home where daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
22). The foreshadowing is clearly seen when Jane travels to Lowood Institution, where Jane lives for a
period of time. The land of the Philistines is a hostile environment for Abraham, much like Lowood
Institution is a hostile environment for Jane. The living conditions that Jane has to endure during her
early years at Lowood are deplorable. The cheap quality of the clothes, the small quantity of food
served, and the physical and emotional abuse Jane receives would be enough to cause anyone to lose
his or her faith in God. Mr. Brocklehurst will test Jane s faith in God when he has Jane stand on a stool
in the middle of the schoolroom, and proclaims: Teachers, you must watch her: keep your eyes on her
movements, weigh well her words, scrutinise her actions, punish her body to save her soul: if, indeed
such salvation be possible, the girl, this child, the native of a Christian land, worse than many a little
heathen who says its prayers to Brahma and kneels before Juggernaut this girl is a lair! (Brontë 58).
Abraham did not lose his faith in God, nor did Jane lose her faith in God: I desired liberty; for liberty I
gasped; for liberty I uttered a prayer ... (Brontë 74). Brontë also uses the scripture to foreshadow
another event that occured while Jane was away at Lowood Institution. Mrs. Reed received a letter
from Jane s Uncle John stating that he wished to make Jane his heir. Mrs. Reed tells him that Jane

Responsibility In Animal Farm
And so almost before they knew what was happening, the rebellion had been successfully carried
through: Jones was expelled, and the Manor Farm was theirs. this quote from the novel Animal Farm
represents when during the russian revolution riots broke out in Russia because of Tsar s unjust rule.
Tsar(The Emperor of russia before 1917) was forced to abdicate. Tsar was a very unfair leader (just
like Mr.jones) and Russia s minorities became hard to control under his domination. When his brother
(Michael Alexandrovich) refused to rule, over 300 years of Romanov dynasty ended. In animal farm
the author George Orwell uses persuasiveness of the leaders and gullibility of the followers to
contribute to theme:loss of freedom and equality in order to show even after the revolution animal
farm fell back into tyranny, dictatorship, inequality ,and subservience.
Although the animals at Manor Farm had a revolution they quickly fell right back into tyranny which
led to loss of freedom and equality. After Mr. Jones was expelled two pigs Snowball and Napoleon
became the leaders of the farm. Soon after the revolution Napolean expelled Snowball! Unfortunately
Napoleon did not have the animal s best interest at heart. Three hens who had been the ringleaders in
the attempted rebellion over the eggs now came forward and stated that snowball had appeared to
them in a dream, and incited them to disobey Napoleon s orders. They too were slain on the spot.

Classification Of Data Mining Techniques
Abstract
Data mining is the process of extracting hidden information from the large data set. Data mining
techniques makes easier to predict hidden patterns from the data. The most popular data mining
techniques are classification, clustering, regression, association rules, time series analysis and
summarization. Classification is a data mining task, examines the features of a newly presented object
and assigning it to one of a predefined set of classes. In this research work data mining classification
techniques are applied to disaster data set which helps to categorize the disaster data based on the type
of disaster occurred in worldwide for past 10 decade. The experimental comparison has been
conducted among Bayes classification algorithms (BayesNet and NaiveBayes) and Rules
Classification algorithms (DecisionTable and JRip). The efficiency of these algorithms is measured by
using the performance factors; classification accuracy, error rate and execution time. This work is
carried out in the WEKA data mining tool. From the experimental result, it is observed that Rules
classification algorithm, JRip has produced good classification accuracy compared to Bayes
classification algorithms. By comparing the execution time the NaiveBayes classification algorithm
required minimum time.

Ian Hodder s Reading The Past
W Welliver
Reading the Past In Reading the Past, Ian Hodder argues that Processual, or New, Archaeology is
flawed and that we must look at approaches used before its adoption and integrate parts of those
approaches into the study of archaeology. He points out that Symbols in Action helped him to develop
three ideas regarding how to do this. First, we must consider that material culture has meaning.
Second, that the individual is important to the development of theory in archaeology; and finally that
archaeology is most closely related to history and should consider that in its approach. In looking at
meaning in material culture Hodder brings up how ethnographic work showed that, contrary to
previous belief, interaction between cultures could actually lead to a more marked difference in their
pottery styles. He also referenced burial practices and refuse buildup, and how they differ based on
cultural beliefs of death and dirt, respectively. He also goes on ton argue that the material culture is not
solely an adaptation to the environment, but also depended upon the culture that produces it. To
attempt to properly interpret the material culture requires context. Here Hodder asks three questions
concerning context: what is it, is the meaning we construct the same that was in people s ... Show

Hodder argues that through the actions of individuals and the material culture society is created.
However Processual archaeology rejected the individual and chose to look at the socio cultural system
and its long term development. Ethnographic information shows this as a flawed approach. In some
cases variations in ceramic styles were to denote social differences, as opposed to the craftsman s
education or the ceramics use, something a processual archaeologist may not even consider. He does
point out that the focus on the individual has nothing to do with the role of free will in change, but
rather to add meaning to the material

Junk Food Tax
Recently cook county Illinois, the county that Chicago occupies, repealed their junk food tax after
only two months. While the tax might decrease obesity, it comes at a very large cost, which is our state
should not have a junk food tax. There should be no junk food tax because it would not completely
solve the obesity problem, it would negatively impact the junk food industry and retailers that sell
these products, and because most consumers are not in favor of the tax. Taxing these junk food
products alone would not solve the obesity problem completely. To completely solve the obesity
problem you should use alternatives such as educating about the effects of eating these foods. Simply
taxing the foods that would not stop the people from purchasing and consuming these foods, it would
just make them unhappy with their government. Another reason is that sugary junk foods are not the
only things contributing to the problem. Lack of exercise and consumption of too much meats and

Describe The Functional Components Of The Renal Corpuscle Di
The functional unit of the kidney is the nephron. It consists of a renal corpuscle where fluid can be
filtered and a renal tubule where the filtered fluid flows through. Nephrons perform three basic
functions, Glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, and tubular secretion. Glomerular filtration
occurs as pressure (glomerular blood hydrostatic pressure) forces water and dissolved blood
components through the endothelial pores of the capillaries, basement membrane, and on through the
filtration slits of the adjoining visceral wall of the glomerular capsule. The resulting fluid is called the
filtrate. Most substances in blood plasma are filtered by the renal corpuscle. However, blood cells and
most proteins are not filtered. Filtration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It retains substances needed by the body, including water, glucose, amino acids, and ions, such as
sodium potassium, calcium, chloride, bicarbonate, and phostphate. Reabsorption of Na+ is especially
important because more of them pass the glomerular filter than any other substance except water.
Sodium ions are reabsorbed in each portion of the renal tubule by several transport systems. Active
transport of Na+ promotes reabsorption of water by osmosis. The loss of water from the filtrate creates
a concentration gradient for some substances, such as K+, Cl , HC03 , and urea, that promotes their
reabsorption by passive diffusion. The loop of henle reabsorbs about 30% of the filtered K+, 20%
filtered Na+, 35% of filtered Cl , and 15% of the filtered water. Here reabsorption of water by osmosis
is not automatically coupled to reabsorption of filtered solutes. Thus, there can only be independent
regulation of both your total body water and the osmotic pressure of body fluids. Two hormones,
Aldosterone, and Antidiuretic Hormone or ADH, regulate reabsorption in the final portion of the distal
convoluted tubule and collecting ducts. About 90% of the reabsorbed water occurs with the
reabsorption of solutes such as sodium and glucose, the rest is regulated by ADH. Whereas tubular
reabsorption returns substances from the filtrate to the blood, tubular secretion removed materials that
are not needed by the body from the blood and adds them to the filtrate. Secreted substances include
potassium, hydrogen, and ammonium ions, as well as certain drugs and wastes. Tubular secretion has
two principle effects, rids the body of certain materials, and helps to control blood pH by secreting H+
ions and increasing or decreasing HC03

The Function of Dual Roles in Tony Kushner’s Angels in...
In Tony Kushner s Angels in America, the interconnection of people and events, that might ordinarily
be viewed as disconnected or unrelated, is implicitly presented in the characters section. Dual roles are
implemented by a playwright that has one actor portraying the roles of two or more characters, with or
without thematic intentions. The use of dual roles in several scenes of this play can be viewed as a
demonstration of Kushner s effort in maintaining the interconnectedness between characters,
communities (i.e. queer, heterosexual, AIDS and political communities) and events to which they are
relative. This essay will argue that Kushner s use of dual role s effectively interconnects characters,
events and their communities that may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Antarctica s expression and connection to Roy s character and communities is supported
within the dialogue. In response to hearing the description of destruction and loss of life on the radio,
Antarctica responds by saying, Let them. Uncountable multitudes. Horrible. It is by their own hands. I
I I will rejoice to see it (Kushner 261). Explicitly Antarctica s responses implicitly parallels Roy s
callous nature, perhaps as a specific reference to Roy s outlook on the AIDS community in which he is
a part of but denies. This response is significant because it preserves the audiences prior knowledge of
Roy and what he stands even contextually as Antarctica. As a result, the use of dual role to interrelate
Roy s denial and lack of morality is able to interconnect and expose Roy s stance in relation to AIDS
even as the unrelated character of Antarctica. The dual role of The Angel of Oceania and Belize is
another example of Kushner s ability to sustain interconnectedness between characters and events.
Principally, Oceania seems to be a caring and warm character much like Belize, but Belize is also
comprised of many interesting communities such as being homosexual and being a black, male nurse.
This collection of communities figuratively represents the separate islands that compose Oceania
suggesting an implicit correlation in character choice.

Bitter And Sweet Relationships
Relationships are a critical part in the everyday lives of humans. People create relationships with
others, whether they realize it or not. Some bonds are different than others. Hateful, happy, or grateful
may be a type of bond you have with another peer. There also could be a lack of relationships between
two or more people. Having a lacking relationship with a parent may impact a kids life and how they
parent their own kids. There are many different types of relationships for a variety of reasons in the
novel later introduced. What caused some of these relationships to differ were race, war, and racial
discrimination. In the novel, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford, the bonds that

commonly believed that it is impossible to observe evolution within a human lifetime. However, two
scientists were able to observe evolution taking place over the course of only a few years. Peter and

Darwin was able to study these finches and develop his theory of natural selection from his

to their unique environments. The different species of finch on the Islands developed different

Construction Projects For The Construction Industry
Introduction Construction projects contain a high level of complicated procurement processes. Not
only the revenue or profit is critical in the construction industry, but market intelligence and
construction procurement knowledge are also important. The bidding process in the construction
industry is illustrated by many different involved parties including the architectural and engineering
firms, client, general contractors, material suppliers, specialized contractors, manufacturers, etc.
(Halaris, 2001). Preparing proposed documents, appraising bids, and awarding the contract to the
winner of the bid are among the major duties of the client (Gokhan et al, 2006). (Gokhan et al, 2006)
Fig. 1. Bid proposal preparation process Sub contracting has comprehensively been used in the
construction industry. It allows general contractors to employ the lowest workforce in construction
projects and promotes specialization (Maturana, 2005). Many general contractors only play a role as
construction management agents in construction projects, for example, they sub contract a large
volume of their work to sub contractors (Shash, 1998). The characteristic bidding process is showed in
Fig. 1. Bidding requirements and procedures vary and have disparate requirements that are created by
the owners. There is a challenge of a bidding procedure is the quantity of paper based forms that need
to be filled, revised, and filed. This spends a large amount of time, which the contractor changes very

The Concept of Communication Climates
Chapter 10: The Concept of Communication Climates Communication climate is the emotional tone
of a relationship between two or more individuals. The climate of the whole relationship is shaped by
the degree where the people believe they are valued by one another. There are two different levels of
message confirmations: confirming communications, which gives positive and conveying values to
the person, and disconfirming communication, the one that gives negative messages with lack of
regard or value for the other person. With these in mind, the climate starts to develop when two people
start to communicate. If their messages are confirming, then the climate is likely to be a positive one,
but if it is disconfirming then the climate becomes hostile and cold. These are shown through verbal
and non verbal a message, which grows the climate into a spiral. A spiral is a reciprocating
communication patter where each person s message reinforces the other. A positive spiral is where you
give your partner confirming messages, which is usually mutual. A negative spiral is where partners
feel worse about each other, which develops into a negative communication climate. In one significant
relationship I have with my friend, Kayla, we have a positive spiral, which started when we began to
communicate verbally. When we started communicating one on one, the communication climate
between us began to grow positively, in a confirming communication manner. Because we are usually
together in

Gender Norms In The Media
Media is defined as any form of communication; however, the term is mainly used for television,
radio, and the Internet. Regardless of the form it takes, media holds the power to construct and reflect
our own sense of identity, in both affirmative and detrimental ways (199). In American society, the
media makes many assumptions based on gender, race, and religion that directly affects how people in
a society view each other. Media creates many assumptions on the female gender that generates
people s views on femininity.

One religion that contains bias from the media is the Amish. Amish settlements have become a cliché
for refusing technology. Tens of thousands of people wear identical, plain, homemade clothing,
cultivate their rich fields with horse drawn machinery, and live in houses lacking that basic modern
spirt called electricity (Rheingold 221). The media takes a very sophisticated belief into an assumption
that suggests that Amish do not use technology at all. Another religion that contains bias from the
media is Islam. According to the media, Islam is a religion associated with terrorism. This media
assumption is based on the, emergence of the self proclaimed Islamic State group (ISIS) which
allegedly shows videos of the beheadings of their prisoners who are most often journalists (Espiritu).
This has caused people to use the terms Muslim and Terrorist interchangeably. Not all Muslims who
associate with Islam are terrorists. For example, Malala Yousafzai, a Muslim, is the youngest Nobel
Peace Prize winner and an education activist. Media also makes assumptions on the religion for Jews,
Judaism. Jews are often interpreted as incredibly prosperous, cheap, and unkind. In truth, Jewish
people can be wealthy or poor, intelligent or less intelligent, kind or otherwise (Media Portrayals of

The man faced isolation because of the remote environment in which he is in and also because he
isolated himself away from his imagination. The man is on journey in the Yukon wilderness during
middle of the winter. London describes the setting as colorless and white, and that there was no sun,
not even a hint of sun in the sky. The man is isolated from any color, sun, and civilization. The man is
not only in an isolated environment, but he also had isolated himself away from his imagination. He
wasn t able to picture anything going wrong during his journey and ignored the warnings of other
experienced travelers, saying that conditions were too cold to travel in alone. During his trip he can t
imagine the consequences that he will face because of the extremely cold weather. For example, he
wasn t properly dressed for the conditions he was in, and he couldn t imagine how long the trip would
actually take. In the man s situation, his form of isolation had a negative impact on his life and was
cause of his death. The man s isolation was caused by behavioral differences because he made his own
decisions, and chose to be in a situation where he was faced with isolation. I think that this situation
could happen in the 21st century, but isn t as likely as would have been in the past. If this was to

Religious Figures In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffery Chaucer
In The Canterbury Tales by Geoffery Chaucer, religious figures are constantly being satirized by being
shown in a negative way that is contrary to their religion. One such character is the Monk. The Monk
should be living a life of poverty and humility, but instead he enjoys hunting, is overweight, and
extravagantly dressed due to his wealth. In Dante s Inferno, the Monk would be classified in the third
circle of hell due to his gluttonous lifestyle. In the Inferno Dante designates the third circle of hell for
those who live in gluttony. According to Dante, the third circle is patrolled by the three headed guard

Negative Effects Of Hurricane Harvey
Hand in Hand: The effects of globalization explored Hurricane Harvey
On August 26th, 2017, Hurricane Harvey crashed into Texas and devastated Houston and the
surrounding area. Harvey battered cities along the Gulf of Mexico, hitting primarily low income
communities, and leaving 52 inches of rainfall, destroying about 22,000 homes, and displacing
thousands in its wake. The image discussed in this essay depicts a Red Cross relief center in Houston
providing shelter for residents unable to evacuate. The aforementioned image is of a domestic event,
but the people, objects, and context demonstrate the complex social processes of globalization. Details
in this image of Hurricane Harvey illustrate the harmful effect of the globalizing market in leading
developed nations to be more focused on short term economic gain rather than long term
environmental protection.
American culture was built on the idea of progress. Our society has focused on creating new
technology, advancing the current systems, and these forces thrust the world towards globality, a
world where countries are increasingly interconnected. To be clear, globalization isn t a new
phenomenon, but the technological advances of the postmodern era accelerated the path to globality, a
world in which our current ideas of national borders are significantly different, much more fluid.
Economics is just one facet of globalization, but unmistakable in the chosen image. Economic

Examples Of Individualism In Poor Mothers
Individualism manifests even more pronouncedly in poor mothers. The ideology of individualism in
relation to social policies does not believe that there are economic factors that can constrain poor
working mothers and prevent them from improving their livelihoods. Hays (2003) explains that
individualism finds that a person s economic status is a reflection of his work ethic. She believes that
America s national and cultural myths of self sufficiency and self reliance dull peoples insensitivity to
social factors that influence individual life chances. Lawmakers in the country do not make social
policies to cater for poor mothers because they overlook the complexities of life that led to their state
of poverty. According to individualism, for these poor mothers to prove their work ethic, they need to
work and not just rely on handouts. It is clearly elaborated in the 1996 punitive Temporary Aid to
Needy Families (TANF) program. The initiative provides poor and ... Show more content on

The Rod Of Justice Character Analysis
Gender equality can be a very complex subject, throughout the years power has been correlated to
gender. In Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis, The Rod of Justice gender inequities are represented
with a great level of complexity and difficult understanding. Throughout the text one can sense
Machado s involvement over authority and control, and how the characters portray this subject. The
story is focus on Damiao, who is the main character. Damiao was seeking escape from his seminary
obligations, and he requests the aid of his godfather s mistress, Sinha Rita. He knew that if she could
use her sexual powers over his godfather she could help him escape his obligations. She is portrayed
in the story as having a power over the people who surrounded her, as her authority was not
questioned nor overruled. She had sexual power over Joao Carneiro, and also had to power to
manipulate the actions of Damiao, but this power was interesting as in society in those times women
had limited power which was not compared to the power men had. Nonetheless, Rita proves to be a
well independent women, doing things under her own power. She would have been a women of great
power, if she had the chance to live in the 21st century, and how society has altered the gender role of
a woman since. As the story develops, readers can immediately perceive how Damiao can manipulate
Rita s power to his advantage and influence her for his benefit. In a way Damiao uses a form of

Cultural Capital, a video by Sociology Live! (2015), embodies the many aspects that define an
individual or group s standing within a society. The video begins with an introduction of a french
theorist, Pierre Bourdieu, who developed the theory of Cultural Capital . His theory suggests that
cultural capital is the cultural knowledge that serves as a currency which helps one navigate culture,
hence, alter our experience and opportunities available to us. The video then outlines the various
elements that make up cultural capital, including material objects (apparel, cars, personal belongings)

This view reversed, is also visible with lower class people and low cultural capital. The rising issue
outlined in this video and capitalism as a whole, is that people in a society are grouped in a certain
hierarchical manner according to their class, status and power. Alternatively, Marx, another renown
sociologist defined the capitalist system primarily on modes of production, separating the society with
proletariats (workers who perform a certain task to obtain an orderly income) and capitalists
(industries or companies who earn money through profit, rent and interest). Marx also believed that
inheritance down the generations is a head start for the newer generations to build a higher financial
capital as capitalists would have built up a larger inheritance to pass down compared to proletariats
(Van Krieken et al. pp.212, 213). Both Marx and aspects of Bourdieu s theories of capitalism indicate
that wealth and privilege are primarily contributed to define a group or individuals hierarchical

Strategic Assessment Of Walgreens And Mergers Essay
Executive Summary This preliminary strategic assessment of Walgreens will describe the company s
current corporate strategy and business model. Walgreens acquisitions and mergers will be examined
as well as the company s globalization and competitive frame. A brief overview of how the company
is performing and its cost based business strategy will also be examined. This is the first of four
reports that make up the strategic assessment for Walgreens.
Walgreens Corporate Strategy
Founded in 1901 in Illinois by Charles R. Walgreen, Sr., Walgreens was a subsidiary of Walgreens
Boots Alliance. In the most recent years, Walgreen s corporate strategy has been focused on mergers
and acquisitions, the first of which occurred in 2014 when Walgreens purchased the remaining stake in
Boots costing the company approximately $15.3 billion. (Walgreens, n.d.) With this acquisition
Walgreens became the largest pharmacy/health/beauty combination retailer in the world, operating in
all 50 states and 12 countries internationally. (Schauber, 2014) Mirroring its main market competitor,
CVS, Walgreens has also added Envision Pharma, a pharmacy benefit management company, to its
portfolio. (CVS acquired Caremark in 2007) (Bells, 2016) Due to previous acquisitions and mergers,
Walgreens is currently the most accessible pharmacy retailer in the U.S., servicing 8 million customers
each day and filling approximately 894 million prescriptions and immunizations, every year.

development and can also carry the theme of the story. Many stories can also be centered around
death. In the story of Hamlet, the story begins with the young prince depressed about the death of his
father.
Prince Hamlet was ordinary boy just like any other. He was a smart and clever young man and was

Analysis Of The Picture Of Dorian Gray

Irony in The Picture of Dorian Gray
More often than not, it is hard to face the consciousness of the inevitable. Everyone feels the distress
of realizing that time is fleeting and they will soon grow old and wrinkly, no longer their youthful self.
The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, illustrates this human condition specifically through the
main character Dorian Gray. Mr. Gray captures the artistic imagination of artist Basil Howard, who
constantly paints portraits of Dorian. Basil usually depicts Dorian as an ancient Greek hero or a
mythological creature, but when he completes his first portrait of Dorian for who he truly is he is
disappointed because he feels as though this painting reveals too much about his subject. Dorian on
the other hand goes to the extreme when he sees this portrait. Worrisome, Dorian believes that one day
the portrait will remind him of his former beautiful and young self. Out of anguish, he curses the
portrait, ultimately selling his soul to spare himself of the burdens of age and infamy, allowing him to
stay forever young. In his novella, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde uses irony to exemplify
an anomaly between the aging process of Dorian Gray in contrast with that of the portrait of himself,
particularly in a society that prizes beauty and youth.
Dorian s first big act of cruelty begins when he inconsiderately calls of his engagement with Sibyl
Vane, a beautiful actress. Sibyl

The story Blue Winds Dancing by Thomas S. Whitecloud demonstrates the experience of a native man
transitioning to his life into a white society. It exhibits the internal and external struggles in the native
s life that he encounters throughout his life. However, the native is an outcast and has a longing to go
back to his native reserve. In comparison, Angel Levine by Bernard Malamud describes the life of a

because of her fatal illness. He reaches out to God, but there is no response which also leads him to

Manischevitz is distraught when a Black Angel appears to help, and he realises that all hope is lost.
This negatively affects Mr. Manischevitz because he seeks affirmation from God, although, he does
not believe in the black angel s powers. This leads Manischevitz down a spiral where he smote to the
naked bones, cursing himself for having believed in God to help him in his time of need. On the other
hand, in Blue Winds Dancing, the native also undergoes an internal conflict; the native feels alone and
lost in the White world. He feels like an outsider with no place in the white world that he desperately
wants to accept him. The native compares himself to a hobo because they both are outsiders because
they cherish different things from a typical white man. Additionally, the native in the story does not
have a name to symbolize that his experience is very similar to many other natives who want to be
apart of the white world. Overall, the native is having an Identity crisis because he does not know
whether to acculturate and become like every other white man or go back to the blanket because it is
familiar to him. He longs for home because he does not agree with the white man s customs of getting
a hill and wanting a mountain . He wants to return back home where people can be free and the native
can truly be himself. These internal conflicts are similar because both protagonists encounter identity
crises which cause them to seek affirmation in their faith

From the very ancient times political life was formed by groups of people who were having different

Ideology In The Revolution Of 1848 Essay
The Role of Ideology in the Revolutions of 1848
Year 1848 is described as mad year mad with fight for freedom. Already its first months, in almost all
parts of Europe, brought explosion of aims and aspirations, which were accumulated during the after
congress period. Revolutionary movements spread throughout the whole Europe, apart from Russia,
where the system of serfdom did not allow any revolts, and Great Britain, where the reforms were
carried out in non revolutionary channels. Despite the differences in social, economic and political
structures of European countries, the revolutions of 1848 were characterised by uniformity, and their
ideology was a common denominator.

Because of overall crises, many reforms were needed, most of which had an ideological background.
Nevertheless, the ideology did not play a huge role throughout the whole revolution. Year 1848 can be
divided into three periods which were characterised by variable importance of new ideas of 19th
century. The main ideology in opposition to the order established during the Congress of Vienna was
often called liberalism . This name indicates that the primary motive of it was to strive after freedom
in contrary to dependence and restrictions forced on societies and individuals by absolute monarchs.
Colloquially, all people who were against absolute regime and were after constitution established by
nations representativer, were called liberals. They demanded freedom of religion and tolerance,
freedom of word, press and societies. They thought that everybody should be equal as far as law is
concerned.
Another 19th century idea was radicalism, which was pretty much the same ideology, with only slight
differences: radicals supported republican form of power rather than constitutional monarchy, they
wanted common right to vote, they were saying less about freedom of an individual, more about social
justice.
At the beginning of the revolutions 1848, the ideology was extremely important. All social classes

Persuasive Essay About Responsible Adults
Joining the circle of so said responsible adults has always been a hard task for teenagers throughout
the ages. In ancient times, it was a test of strength and adaptability. Can you survive alone in the
wilderness? Do you have what it takes to protect your wife? And for women, do you have what it
takes to take care of your man? To raise his children and to make sure they also became responsible
adults? What about today? Is it the same? No not at all. So, what s today s modern test? Well, it s very
simple. There is none. As you graduate school, or drop out by your own choice, you will automatically
be regarded as an adult and act like one. If you don t, well, you ll be cursed and back talked about for
being irresponsible, a trash, a degenerate of society and a lot more. To be a responsible adult, the first
thing needed to have is an employment. An employment is the key to success. Without an
employment, you ll be without money, and without status in society. However, this was also where
some were stuck. Like Tommy.

Paner A Successful Company With A Bright Future
While I believe that Panera is a successful company with a bright future, I have a few
recommendations which I hope could help Panera further grow their business. I have included a plan
of action for each recommendation. I recommend that Panera open drive thru service in all of their
restaurants. They could provide drinks and pastries through the drive thru to customers on the go in
the morning. This would especially be beneficial during bad weather when consumers are leery of
leaving their vehicles. By providing this service Panera will be able to get more of a market share on
the morning commuters. To put this in action Panera should first analyze which of their buildings are
already situated with an outside wall that could accommodate a window and driving lane. Next Panera
should begin the training and construction needed at these stores. Panera should then evaluate any
necessary changes to other stores that are within malls, or come to the realization that a drive thru is
not an option without moving the stores. Those stores would be last to deal with. I recommend that
Panera partner with recording companies to create promotions which will help both Panera and the
recording industry. I think Panera would benefit from linking the customer rewards card with music
downloads on the internet. In order to do this Panera would need to meet with several recording
companies to obtain rights and to make a mutually beneficial agreement. After the agreement is in

Review Of What Women Can Learn From Men By Margaret Wente
A Review of What Women Can Learn From Men By Margaret Wente Margaret Wente s July 2015
Globe and Mail article, What Women Can Learn From Men addresses a common phenomenon, the
comparison: between men and women. With her article, she hopes to advise women on how they can
improve themselves and their lives with simple changes. Furthermore, she wisely chooses to avoid a
sexist approach by commending men on their behavioral traits despite her gender. Infact, using logical
implications, she portrayed herself as an example rather than offend her audience. Additionally,
through evidence, figures, facts and a link, she skillfully supports her theories thus making her article
significantly factual and effective. Although Margaret starts by stereotypically generalising men, she
depicts some of their great qualities that women can truly learn from. Using different approaches, she
portrays women and their thoughts then skillfully explains how they can better themselves by thinking
like men. Despite how she initially condemned men, she concludes by logically beseeching that man
shaming has gone far enough and should stop. Despite being an article in the extensively read
Canadian newspaper the Globe and mail , Margaret s target audience is the broad female population.
She therefore uses a different approach, one with less specialized language, as was stated in Mind
Wide Open. The purpose is quite clear: she portrays women s behavioral traits and their thoughts then

Imagery And Diction In Shakespeare s Sonnet 138
The Sonnet 138 is a poem by William Shakespeare. In the poem, Shakespeare uses imagery and
diction to describe the speakers mistress to the reader. With the utilization of such techniques,
Shakespeare is able to incorporate the speakers personal qualities as rude, honest, and genuine.
Throughout the poem, the speaker is interpreted as rude by the readers because of the way he draws
out his mistress. The speaker says, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun / If snow be white, why
then her breasts are dun (1 3). As the speaker uses imagery to illustrates his mistress eyes, he is saying
that they are not bright nor do they shine the way the sun shines. When the speaker describes her
breast as dun, he portrays them as dull and brownish. If the speaker has a mistress, would it not be
with someone who he finds beautiful; someone whose eyes do shine like the sun and has breast as
beautiful as the snow? Describing her features as the opposite of these characteristics build the reader

He says, And in some perfumes is there more delight / Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks

her to her breath to smell the way flowers do. The speaker also says, I grant I never saw a goddess go /
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground (12). In these lines the speaker lets the reader
know that his mistress walk is not elegant as he imagines a goddess walk, but the complete contrary.
Throughout the end of the poem the reader begins to understand that the speaker is more honest and
genuine than what he began to come off

Snider, Hill And Martin. (2003) Stated That“ Csr May Be
Snider, Hill and Martin. (2003) stated that CSR may be defined in general terms as the obligation of
the firm to use its resources in ways to benefit society, through committed participation as a member
of society, taking into account the society at large and improving welfare of society at large
independent of direct gains of the company (as cited in Kok et al., 2001, p. 288). Since the growth of
the corporations depend on the societal factors, corporations should be responsible for the society for
the corporation s own benefit in the long run. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) construct
describes the relationship between business and the larger society (Snider et al., 2003). According to

As Kline (2017) stated, Socially responsible companies can reduce their credit spread by 40%, avoid
market losses from crises (saving millions), double the probability of receiving investment grade
ratings, reduce share price volatility 2 10%, and reduce systematic or market risk by 4%. More
interestingly, Kline (2017) mentioned, ...the researchers found that corporate responsibility could
potentially increase the market value of a company by up to 6% over a 15 year period. Market value
may grow even more to 40 80% higher than peers and competitors market value for companies with
strong relationships with stakeholders such as environmental and social NGOs. Similarly, Kline
(2017) voiced, The study found several advantages on the human resources front due to retention of
talent attracted to CR. Staff turnover rates are 25 to 50% lower in responsible companies, who can
save around $3700 on average in wage increases to encourage an employee to stay when he or she
would rather go elsewhere. Kline (2017) brought up some engaging trends, In fact, in responsible
companies 5% of employees say they are willing to accept a decline in compensation. These
companies register a 7.5% increase in

Crushing A Cupcake
Many times throughout life one finds they only know a grain about a discipline that seemed
previously to be common sense. In this project, I learned that there is much more to simply frosting a
cupcake than meets the eye. At the start, I thought, I ll just put some icing in a bag with a designing tip
and onto a cupcake. How hard can it be? Before this project I had frosted a cupcake maybe once while
helping my sister bake for one of her endeavors. At that time, it was inadequate but I shrugged it off
and decided that it sufficed. Now I know how beautiful and exciting frosting a cupcake and many
other foods can be.
Lizeth, my partner, and I found many articles about decorating pastries, but in my opinion, the most
helpful resource was the Michaels class in which we were enrolled. I learned about gadgets with
which I was not previously familiar, such as couplers and quality piping bags. Couplers hold the tip
out of which the icing comes and makes the icing process cleaner and sturdier. A quality piping bag
ensures that the tip will not fall out of it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that we are having each individual in the class frost their own cupcake will demonstrate that
frosting a cupcake perfectly the first time is not easy, and it shows that we want the class to actively
partake in the experience that Lizeth and I went through when we first started frosting cupcake.
Getting others involved is a fantastic way of allowing others to understand the progress and
improvement that transpired in our work. My PowerPoint is also filled with visuals and hardly
verbose. It is colorful and completely documents the steps I took to reach my final outcome. The light
atmosphere it carries will maintain the audience s attention and everyone will learn about a topic they
probably never looked at in

My Experience In Sports
Have you been interested in sports? Have you ever had injuries that you had playing that sport? I have
been an athlete since I was four years old. I have been in three different sports such as gymnastics,
softball and volleyball. With the time and years I have spent with these three sports I have had two
major injuries. Gymnastics was the very first sport I have ever done. I was a gymnast for eight years. I
started when I was four years old and as I got older I started competitive gymnastics. On January 21,
2011 I was In Indianapolis at the Convention Center competing at Circle Of Stars. I was competing on
floor and just ended my first tumbling pass and I landed wrong, I sat there on the floor for a couple
minutes crying in pain and then got up and finished my floor routine. When I ended I carried myself
halfway off the floor until my coach came and carried me off the rest of the way. I went to the trainer
who was at the meet and she said it was just sprained by looking at it. So my mom took me to the
hospital and I got some x rays and they said it was massive sprain too so they put a small cast on my
foot to let the sprain heal. After I got better I continued to do gymnastics. A couple years passed and I
was still having problems with it so my mom took me to the Orthopedic and he looked at my x rays.
My ankle was actually broken in the growth plate and it healed wrong so now everytime I bend my
ankle it rubs on one of my other bones causing and groove in my bone. The

Essay about Changing the Culture at British Airways
Changing the Culture at British Airways
Changing the Culture at British Airways The British Airways case study was a very interesting case to
read. It proves that not all people can be leaders, especially the chairman, board and chief executives
of British European Airways (BEA) and British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC.) According to
the case study of British Airways, the life at the old British Airways was bloody awful (Changing the
Culture of British Airways, 1990, p. 1). There definitely was a crisis happening in that airline. They
didn t seem to have a cohesive culture and it seemed as if they continued down this path they would
no longer have a business either. British Airways had this divide between BEA and BOAC. ... Show

And another mindset was,
If you re providing service at no cost to the taxpayer, then you re doing quite well (Changing the
Culture of British Airways, 1990, p. 3).
If you had to compare this philosophy to Kotter s book, The Heart of Change, this company was in
huge trouble. There was definitely no leadership just really greedy chairman, in my opinion. There
was definitely no sense of urgency and such a lack of vision. The unfortunate this was it still remained
the same even when reorganization occurred in 1976, by Sir Frank McFadzean. According to the
study, divisional loyalties prevented the carrier from attaining a common focus (Changing the Culture
of British Airways, 1990, pp. 3 4).
It was not until February 1981, where things began to look up for British Airways. It was when Sir
John King became chairman. Sir King made radial steps by reducing staff significantly, freezing pay
increases, closing several airline routes, online stations, and engineering bases. In addition, halting
cargo only services, and selling the fleet, and inflicting massive cuts upon offices, administrative
services and staff clubs (Changing the Culture of British Airways, 1990, p. 4). Although you would
think this would have caused a lot of fear and negativity with employees my impression of what I
read, Sir King alleviated this by

  • 2. The Effects Of European Integration On The Regional... We can have a long list of regions within EU that are seeking for independence: Scotland, the Basque Country, Catalonia, Flanders, Venetian, Bavarian, Corsica and more is coming. Although each case has its distinct story, they have some common reasons for separatism, for example, due to long term history tension, culture difference, different national identity perceived by people, minority groups under representative and economic inequality. Besides, benefits such as regional sovereign are both motivations and reasons for regions to secede. Many scholars also argue that the integration of Europe is another spur of the independence movements. However, I will argue that the effect of European integration on the regional independence is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its prosperous development of economy also draws labours from the rest of the state. However, Catalans do not have the control of their own wealth. Every year Catalonia is taxed for about €20 billion, about 10% of Catalonia s GDP, by the Spanish government and never return back as social investments (Srmava, 2014). The Spanish government use that money to subsidise other poorer regions. Staying in Spain now become a brake to the development of Catalonia s economics. The hypothesis for partition of Belgium is based on the similar story. The state is divided by language and history and economics inequality into Flanders and Wallonia. The case for Scotland is a bit different as people use the same language and share the culture. The two major arguments are the oil and currency. North Sea oil and gas reserves can help Scotland to become one of the richest countries in the world after independence. Moreover, Scotland led by Salmond wants to join the common currency union, while the London based government does not. The former said this is for the good of everyone , because of removal obstacles for transaction within EU and increasing the competitiveness. The Cameron government argued back that joining a currency union would reduce the autonomy of economics, and the recent financial crisis showed the fragility of the euro system at the moment. Motherly Love Essay Motherly Love In the three stories we read by Flannery O Connor; The Comforts of Home , Everything That Rises Must Converge , and The Enduring Chill , the major relationship portrayed was between mothers and their hypersensitive sons. While all of the major characters, the sons, were noticeably similar, the lesser characters of the mothers were also very alike in many ways. Many of their views, gestures and outward qualities paralleled throughout the stories. After rereading all of the stories again I came to the realization that the mothers O Connor wrote in her stories were variations of the same person. One of the qualities that jump out first is that all three mothers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boys feel that either their mother did not do a good enough job raising them or that she has disrupted the proper pace of their lives. This is apparent in all the boys but especially confusing in the case of Julian. At the beginning of the story he says he could have stood his lot better if she [his mother] had been an old hag who drank and screamed at him (5) yet later talks about how there was no reason for her to think she could always depend on him (14). While he feels that she raised him well, he does not want her to feel that he will be there for her like she seems to have been there for him. Asbury makes it very clear that he feels his mother was the unnerving force that lead to the demise of his life. Upon his death, he wanted his mother to read a letter her wrote to her about what she had done to him (91) but thought, that his mother would not understand the letter at once... he thought she would be able to see that he forgave her for all that she had done to him (91). This statement, like Julian s is not truly supported in any way. It appears in both stories that the boys mothers did everything they possible could to give their children the best of life. Thomas, on the other hand, does not feel quite as much observable loathing to his mother and says that he loved his mother. It it very apparent that Bradstreet loved her father dearly and thought very highly of him. However, this was not the only father she shared a relationship with. Anne also had a lifetime relationship with her heavenly Father as well. Bradstreet was a devout woman of the Puritan religion. I suspect Bradstreet would have loved that quote, seeing that she too, believed that happiness did not lie in possessions. Anne Bradstreet states, Upon the earth he did not build his nest, / But as a pilgrim, what he had possessed (33 34). Just with those two lines, one can already catch a glimpse of what kind of man Thomas Dudley was. Bradstreet is saying that her father knew this was just his temporary home. Thomas Dudley knew that this was not his forever home, just a stopping point along the way. Bradstreet goes on to say, His thoughts were more sublime, his actions wise, / Such vanities, he justly did despise (47 48). In these lines, Bradstreet shows how her father despises vanities, just as she did. Anne greatly infers that Thomas Dudley was not a materialistic man, instead, he was a very humble man. Responsibility In Animal Farm And so almost before they knew what was happening, the rebellion had been successfully carried through: Jones was expelled, and the Manor Farm was theirs. this quote from the novel Animal Farm represents when during the russian revolution riots broke out in Russia because of Tsar s unjust rule. Tsar(The Emperor of russia before 1917) was forced to abdicate. Tsar was a very unfair leader (just like Mr.jones) and Russia s minorities became hard to control under his domination. When his brother (Michael Alexandrovich) refused to rule, over 300 years of Romanov dynasty ended. Data mining techniques makes easier to predict hidden patterns from the data. The most popular data mining techniques are classification, clustering, regression, association rules, time series analysis and summarization. Classification is a data mining task, examines the features of a newly presented object and assigning it to one of a predefined set of classes. In this research work data mining classification techniques are applied to disaster data set which helps to categorize the disaster data based on the type of disaster occurred in worldwide for past 10 decade. The experimental comparison has been conducted among Bayes classification algorithms (BayesNet and NaiveBayes) and Rules Classification algorithms (DecisionTable and JRip). The efficiency of these algorithms is measured by using the performance factors; classification accuracy, error rate and execution time. This work is carried out in the WEKA data mining tool. From the experimental result, it is observed that Rules classification algorithm, JRip has produced good classification accuracy compared to Bayes classification algorithms. Ian Hodder s Reading The Past W Welliver Reading the Past In Reading the Past, Ian Hodder argues that Processual, or New, Archaeology is flawed and that we must look at approaches used before its adoption and integrate parts of those approaches into the study of archaeology. He points out that Symbols in Action helped him to develop three ideas regarding how to do this. First, we must consider that material culture has meaning. Second, that the individual is important to the development of theory in archaeology; and finally that archaeology is most closely related to history and should consider that in its approach. In looking at meaning in material culture Hodder brings up how ethnographic work showed that, contrary to previous belief, interaction between cultures could actually lead to a more marked difference in their pottery styles. He also referenced burial practices and refuse buildup, and how they differ based on cultural beliefs of death and dirt, respectively. He also goes on ton argue that the material culture is not solely an adaptation to the environment, but also depended upon the culture that produces it. To attempt to properly interpret the material culture requires context. Here Hodder asks three questions concerning context: what is it, is the meaning we construct the same that was in people s ... • 15. Describe The Functional Components Of The Renal Corpuscle Di The functional unit of the kidney is the nephron. It consists of a renal corpuscle where fluid can be filtered and a renal tubule where the filtered fluid flows through. Nephrons perform three basic functions, Glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, and tubular secretion. Glomerular filtration occurs as pressure (glomerular blood hydrostatic pressure) forces water and dissolved blood components through the endothelial pores of the capillaries, basement membrane, and on through the filtration slits of the adjoining visceral wall of the glomerular capsule. The resulting fluid is called the filtrate. Most substances in blood plasma are filtered by the renal corpuscle. However, blood cells and most proteins are not filtered. Filtration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It retains substances needed by the body, including water, glucose, amino acids, and ions, such as sodium potassium, calcium, chloride, bicarbonate, and phostphate. Reabsorption of Na+ is especially important because more of them pass the glomerular filter than any other substance except water. Sodium ions are reabsorbed in each portion of the renal tubule by several transport systems. Active transport of Na+ promotes reabsorption of water by osmosis. The loss of water from the filtrate creates a concentration gradient for some substances, such as K+, Cl , HC03 , and urea, that promotes their reabsorption by passive diffusion. The loop of henle reabsorbs about 30% of the filtered K+, 20% filtered Na+, 35% of filtered Cl , and 15% of the filtered water. Here reabsorption of water by osmosis is not automatically coupled to reabsorption of filtered solutes. Thus, there can only be independent regulation of both your total body water and the osmotic pressure of body fluids. Two hormones, Aldosterone, and Antidiuretic Hormone or ADH, regulate reabsorption in the final portion of the distal convoluted tubule and collecting ducts. About 90% of the reabsorbed water occurs with the reabsorption of solutes such as sodium and glucose, the rest is regulated by ADH. Whereas tubular reabsorption returns substances from the filtrate to the blood, tubular secretion removed materials that are not needed by the body from the blood and adds them to the filtrate. Secreted substances include potassium, hydrogen, and ammonium ions, as well as certain drugs and wastes. Tubular secretion has two principle effects, rids the body of certain materials, and helps to control blood pH by secreting H+ ions and increasing or decreasing HC03 ... In Tony Kushner s Angels in America, the interconnection of people and events, that might ordinarily be viewed as disconnected or unrelated, is implicitly presented in the characters section. Dual roles are implemented by a playwright that has one actor portraying the roles of two or more characters, with or without thematic intentions. The use of dual roles in several scenes of this play can be viewed as a demonstration of Kushner s effort in maintaining the interconnectedness between characters, communities (i.e. queer, heterosexual, AIDS and political communities) and events to which they are relative. Explicitly Antarctica s responses implicitly parallels Roy s callous nature, perhaps as a specific reference to Roy s outlook on the AIDS community in which he is a part of but denies. This response is significant because it preserves the audiences prior knowledge of Roy and what he stands even contextually as Antarctica. As a result, the use of dual role to interrelate Roy s denial and lack of morality is able to interconnect and expose Roy s stance in relation to AIDS even as the unrelated character of Antarctica. The dual role of The Angel of Oceania and Belize is another example of Kushner s ability to sustain interconnectedness between characters and events. The climate of the whole relationship is shaped by the degree where the people believe they are valued by one another. There are two different levels of message confirmations: confirming communications, which gives positive and conveying values to the person, and disconfirming communication, the one that gives negative messages with lack of regard or value for the other person. With these in mind, the climate starts to develop when two people start to communicate. If their messages are confirming, then the climate is likely to be a positive one, but if it is disconfirming then the climate becomes hostile and cold. These are shown through verbal and non verbal a message, which grows the climate into a spiral. A spiral is a reciprocating communication patter where each person s message reinforces the other. A positive spiral is where you give your partner confirming messages, which is usually mutual. A negative spiral is where partners feel worse about each other, which develops into a negative communication climate. Marx also believed that inheritance down the generations is a head start for the newer generations to build a higher financial capital as capitalists would have built up a larger inheritance to pass down compared to proletariats (Van Krieken et al. pp.212, 213). • 33. Analysis Of The Picture Of Dorian Gray Haley Morrow Mrs. Crook 12 AP English 15 Oct. 2015 Irony in The Picture of Dorian Gray More often than not, it is hard to face the consciousness of the inevitable. Everyone feels the distress of realizing that time is fleeting and they will soon grow old and wrinkly, no longer their youthful self. The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, illustrates this human condition specifically through the main character Dorian Gray. Mr. Gray captures the artistic imagination of artist Basil Howard, who constantly paints portraits of Dorian. Basil usually depicts Dorian as an ancient Greek hero or a mythological creature, but when he completes his first portrait of Dorian for who he truly is he is disappointed because he feels as though this painting reveals too much about his subject. Dorian on the other hand goes to the extreme when he sees this portrait. Worrisome, Dorian believes that one day the portrait will remind him of his former beautiful and young self. Out of anguish, he curses the portrait, ultimately selling his soul to spare himself of the burdens of age and infamy, allowing him to stay forever young. In his novella, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde uses irony to exemplify an anomaly between the aging process of Dorian Gray in contrast with that of the portrait of himself, particularly in a society that prizes beauty and youth. Dorian s first big act of cruelty begins when he inconsiderately calls of his engagement with Sibyl Vane, a beautiful actress. Sibyl ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
