Zionism and Non Zionists Essays
Zionism declares that the Jews are more than a purely religious body, they are not only a race but also
a nation (Berkowitz 376). Theodor Herzl, the father of political Zionism, states, We are a people one
people. Both Herzl and Berkowitz have interesting key points about a Jewish State, the Jewish religion
in general, and how to solve current issues in the religion. A State is formed by a social contract and is
still being created today. Rousseau states, The conditions of this contract are so precisely defined by
the nature of the agreement that the slightest alterations would make them null and void. The
consequence is that, even where they are not expressly stated, they are everywhere identical, and
everywhere tacitly accepted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fact proves that all Jews should and will stand together to solve and work out the problems such
as poor treatment and portrayal. Herzl emphasizes, It is true that the Jewish State is conceived as a
peculiarly modern structure on unspecified territory. But a State is formed, not by pieces of land, but
rather by a number of men united under sovereign rule. For example, the portrayal of Jews from a non
Zionist is much different from Zionists. It is an egregious and fatal error of the Zionists that they
accept the misery of Israel as permanent, his wretchedness as hopeless (Berkowitz 372). Although
forming a State or declaring an important religion can be difficult, there are many other risks such as,
land disputes, current communities moving to a new land, views of merging with other countries, past
and future suffering, and the most important, the emphasis on religion or nation. The first step to
becoming a respected religious State is forming a society of Jews to perform scientific and political
tasks. Second, Christians and current citizens of the State would be forced to move and find new land,
like in times of war or destroyed land. Herzl does point out that if the Jewish State had help from the
Christians it would become a peaceable voluntary departure of colonists. Third, the Jews have
attempted to merge many places in the social life of other countries and to prefer faith of

Aspects Of City Life In The Truman Show
We accept the reality of the world with which we re presented. It s as simple as that, quoted Christof
(Ed Harris) when asked about Truman s oblivion to reality versus the city surrounding him. When
presented with a film like The Truman Show, Peter Weir (Director) raises questions about the Real ,
how does it function in society and why is it seen as a desirable living environment? What are the
typical aspects of city life that can be depicted in an artificial space? Midway through the film the
hidden cameras on the set revealed that the set is placed in the centre of Hollywood, Los Angeles
instead of the man made creation of Seahaven Island. The main protagonist, Truman Burbank (Jim
Carrey) is raised to grow up in a reconstructed world, where his friends and neighbors are all hired
actors/actresses without his knowledge. His world is influenced by what is called New Urbanism in
the 1980s where cities tried to transform back into original middle class lifestyles to restore
cleanliness, walkability and a family friendly neighborhood. The Truman Show seems to represent a
contrasting view on American cities such as New York, Chicago or even Los Angeles, thus also
critiques the arguments presented on the negative aspects of city life by theorists such as Tom Slater.
Seahaven Island presents the pretentious attitudes in a city where everyone greets one another but only
through distinct small talks, placed against the landscape of small patches of well groomed grass and

The Dangers of Metabolife Essay
The Dangers of Metabolife
Obesity:
The term obese implies that one is very fat , extremely overweight, and often carries negative
connotations. However the scientific definition describes obese in a non judgmental way that simply
expresses ones weight as a number, a certain body mass index (BMI). Since the early 1980s, BMI has
been the medical standard for obtaining obesity measurements
(http://www.quantumhcp.com/obesity.htm). Government researchers and scientists developed the BMI
to take height into account in weight measurements. It is important to realize that one cannot
determine if one is obese based solely on ones weight. For example, if one weighs 145 pounds, is he
or she considered to be obese? The answer to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact must be faced; obesity is increasing in numbers. However, it is interesting to note that as the
number of overweight individuals increases, so too does the various methods of reducing caloric and
fat intake. In today s busy society Americans are willing to try almost any weight loss product on the
market in order to reach their goal of thinness. Americans are turning to herbal supplements in record
numbers as a means of attaining their dietary needs and goals. One of the best selling herbal
supplements on the market is Metabolife 356â (http://www.metabolife.com/news/100199.htm).
What is Metabolife?
Metabolife 356â is an herbal supplement whose purpose is to increase weight loss by burning fat and
increasing energy levels, (http://www.w8lossbiz.com/metabolife/index.html). Simply put, Metabolife
356â raises the body s metabolism and creates a thermogenic (increase in metabolism and fat burning)
response. Metabolife 356â is one of America s best selling herbal supplements, but where did it come
from?
The Origins of Metabolife 356â
Michael J. Ellis developed the herbal supplement in the early 1990s as a means to help his father
counter the fatigue of cancer treatment. Ellis, a former California police officer has had no medical
experience; however, he was linked to a methamphetamine lab bust in 1990 (Cowley Reno, 1999).
Methamphetamine is also known as meth and is an illegal street drug chemically related to ephedrine.

The Story Of Genji
Genji lit the candles as he set them up around the room. He discovered earlier that the power to the
building shut off once the tours were finished. He walked out onto the balcony as the moon hung high
up in the sky. The faint honking and shouting of the city filled the air as the wind whirled into his
bedroom. Slowly, he sat down on the ground as he crossed his legs. His left hand remained expended
as his right closed into his palm. His eyes fell closed as he took a deep breath, the whirl of his vents
filled his ears. He was used to it by now, it was his rhythm it allowed him to relax. Genji called out to
his dragon hoping to receive an answer this time. When he tried earlier he was answered with
complete silence. Relax, Genji. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and laughing. Hello? Zenyatta said. Genji snapped himself out of his thoughts as he looked at the
omnic on the screen. Hey, master. You alright, Genji? Genji fell silent as he glanced around the room.
No, I m not. I believe this was a mistake master. Genji stated as he rubbed his hands together. The
small sparks rushing through his arms and he reached up unclipping the face plate. Setting it beside
his leg, he leaned more into the headboard. Explain it to me. Zenyatta stated. Genji couldn t think of
the words, and grabbed the device. Walking out into the hallway, he pointed the camera to the sword
allowing the monk to see it. That is the blade my brother used. Genji whispered. You told me that he
probably regretted the action, but that says otherwise doesn t it. There was silence from the monk. You
told me that Hanzo never had a choice once he became the head of the clan. He didn t. You believe it
was him who put it up? Zenyatta questioned. Genji fell quiet as he moved back into the bedroom. I
can tell you are uneasy in the temple. Is there something else going on? It s hard to be here. Genji
admitted as his device buzzed. He picked it up flicking away from the visual of his master. He

Narrative Essay On Maple Street
Maple Street. The middle of July. An ideal Saturday afternoon with temperatures at a fairly
comfortable 80 degrees, the air permeated with the tantalizing smell of a barbecue or two around the
neighborhood. Boys played pick up baseball at the nearby recreational dugout. Girls played hopscotch
and giggled at boys they fancied passing by on bicycles. Neighbors waved to each other as they
passed on the chalk laden sidewalks, and the trees were exuding the pleasant song of birds perched
upon their branches. This was it. The perfect summer day. A young, fair haired boy named Bobby,
rode around the neighborhood aimlessly on his brand new, bright red Schwinn bicycle, which he had
received as an 11th birthday present less than a month earlier. A small transistor radio was hanging
from one of the handles, belting out Dee Dee Sharp s Mashed Potato Time at a boisterous volume.
Mr. Hargis, the resident Neighborhood Grouch, was watering his lawn and smoking a fresh cigar.
Bobby, being fascinated by Mr. Hargis, stopped pedaling and planted his feet to the ground, watching
intently from a safe distance. Mr. Hargis sensed the eyes on him and raised his head toward the
direction, locking eyes with the boy. Normally he would have scowled and shooed away anybody he
felt was bothering him (a.k.a. anybody), but the pleasant warmth of the afternoon ... Show more

Cream Man. Bobby, however, had no money on his person, and so he begrudgingly turned around to

watching, he noticed that it was the same man in the truck he had seen the last few times. An older
man (probably as old as Mr. Hargis, Bobby suspected), with thin white hair and a pleasant smile to

Spring Break Of Alabama, Alabama
Spring Break In Alabama
In the early morning of April 7th, 2015, my grandparents, parents, brother, and I awoke groggy, and
excited for the days to come. We drug ourselves out of bed and got ready for the long, tiring, 12 hour,
car ride. About 4 hours away from Gulf Shores, Alabama, our final destination, we decided to stop at
Bass Pro Shop in Birmingham, Alabama. At Bass Pro Shop we looked at hunting and camping
accessories while stretching our legs and looking for snacks, so that we could continue straight to Gulf
Shores. Once we arrived in Gulf Shores, we stopped to get our key to the condo then went on to eat
lunch at Hooters. At Hooters my parents, brother, and I got mild wings, which weren t very good. The

In the front of the living room and both large bedrooms were sliding doors that led to a wide balcony
that showed the beautiful ocean, beach, and sky. After exploring the condo and all the rooms, my
family and I moved on to adventure outside. It was a nice, yet chilly afternoon so we decided to
admire the many restaurants and shops. After my grandparents arrived, we had a dinner of amazing,
juicy burgers. Next we moved on to explore the beach. The sand was cool, and the small, sharp
seashells stabbed at your feet as you walked. We watched the beautiful image of the sun sinking into
the pink and orange sky as we felt and smelled the cold salt water against our feet. The next day, April
8th, my parents and I woke around 8 a.m. to get ready for our 3 mile run. After running, we spent a
couple hours at the beach in the warm sun and chilly breeze. A little while later after having relaxed in
the cool air conditioned condo, we got dressed up for dinner at a fancy seafood restaurant in town. On
our way there, a group of girls in the car behind us were yelling out the window at their friends and
rammed into the back of my grandpa s truck. My grandpa was upset, so we didn t make it to the
restaurant until around two hours later. For dinner, I ordered a steak, and it was mouthwateringly juicy.
When we arrived back to our cozy condo my grandparents went up to the rooms and my family and I
went out to the beach. My mom and I had our phones so we turned on our flashlights and

Summary Of Lewis Thomas On Societies As Organisms
We, human beings feel distinctly unique, individual and most importantly, unmistakably superior due
to our exclusive intelligence. This is why we, as a society, tend to look down on other types of life
forms, insect or animal, as they do not possess that desired intellect. Yet, Lewis Thomas, in his opinion
essay On Societies as Organisms , argues that human society has much to learn from the communal
accomplishment of other life forms. The author effectively conveys this main idea through his use of
analogy, enumeration of examples and through his level of language.
To begin, Thomas astutely uses analogies to make parallels between human society and other life
forms as to inform us of our deficiencies when contrasted with those other life forms. Thomas, first of
all, defines an organism as being a live computer (233) composed of component parts (233), an
accumulation of individuals communicating and working as one towards a common objective.
Subsequently, the analogy of the organism is used to represent the ideal human society. Hence, when
ants build their nest (233), the Hill (233), humans build their knowledge, accumulate a mountain of
knowledge (235). However, what Thomas wants us to acknowledge is that human knowledge is a
jigsaw puzzle in the sense that it is accumulated piece by piece, never all at once, never by a single
individual (Ziman qtd. in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his essay, Thomas stresses the importance of working collectively and communication in scientific
discoveries. This concept of working together is more important, now than never, as international

Analysis Of Voices In The Park By Anthony Browne
I read the book, Voices in the Park , by Anthony Browne for this assignment. I recreated a scene
showing the children, Charles and Smudge, playing on monkey bars in the park. This setting is
important to the text because it illustrates the free spirit of the youngsters. In fact, playing in the park
symbolizes freedom from their parents. Charles and Smudge s are able to run wild, escaping their
parent s negativity. The mediums I used when creating my artwork are magic markers, colored
pencils, crayon, and pastels. First, I sketched the picture in the upper left with magic markers. I used
thin markers, so I was able to add detail to the drawing. In fact, the elements in the illustration are
crisp and defined. For instance, the facial expressions

Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park Research Paper
This seemingly odd named state park is named after the virgin tropical forest that is the main
attraction of Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park. This state park is home to over 1000 lignum vitae
trees. These amazing trees are truly a spectacle to see. They feature distinctive deep blue flowers every
spring and have branches that cris cross each other. Their wood is some of the densest on earth,
weighing in at 80 pounds per cubic foot. The vegetation here used to be more prevalent in the Upper
Keys but now this island is one of the few where you can find it, making it a special place to visit.

crabs when they are in season. All fishers at this park must adhere to state rules and regulations
regarding size, number method of capture, and season. Lodging and dining near the park The best
choices for eating and dining near the park are on the island of Islamorada. On that island you will

Sexual Assault On College Campuses Research Paper
Sexual assault is a topic that no one wants to cover, but almost everyone endures, or knows someone
who has endured it throughout their lives. Particularly, sexual assault on college campuses is a huge
deal. One in five women are sexually assaulted, which is a number that is insane to think about. In
reference to the article on ending college sexual assault, the way the initial victim Maya reacted to the
sexual assault is the same way many others do as well. Not only does it go unreported, which leaves
the door open for continued sexual assault, she also fell behind on her studies as her mental state
deteriorated. That example represents many students worldwide across campuses, and that is
something that is just not alright. In 2011, Russlyn Ali wrote a letter titled Dear Colleague which
shined some light on the scenario of sexual assault on campuses, and said a lot of it was up to the
universities themselves to help fix the problem. Before the 2011 call to action, campuses across the
nation just did whatever they chose to do, due to the fact that the federal laws surrounding sexual
assault on campuses were so rarely enforced. An example of that would be in some schools, the case
would go straight to law enforcement and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure, de facto sounds like a great idea on paper, but if individuals are not willing to comply with the
situation around them, laws are the only way to set things straight. For many, their mindsets will
remain unchanged, thus rendering the help useless. By implementing laws and utilizing them fully,
sexual assault on campuses could really be decreased. That notion came from a lot of what we talked
about in discussion the week prior, which really helped solidify my views. While I am not saying de
facto is something that should never be used, because I do agree with the idea that it holds plenty of
use, I just feel as though in this scenario de jure is the way to handle

Analysis of 3m Command
Executive Summary
3M Singapore controls many market leading brands in their various markets, such as Post It®,
Scotch® Tapes, Scotch Brite® and Command™. In this report, we will be focusing on the brand
Command™. We aim to address the problem of the erosion of Command™ s competitive advantage
in its increasingly competitive industry by providing improved/new BTL strategies which Command
can undertake.
Based on our survey, there are 2 interesting findings which we aim to tackle through our
recommendations. The first of which is that consumers could not differentiate Command™ from 3M.
In other words, they viewed Command™ s products as 3M hooks rather than Command™ hooks .
This could lead to a brand dilution of 3M in the long run which ... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Internet Hacking
Internet hacking is considered a white collar crime, which means it is a nonviolent crime; however, it
involves deceit, corruption, and a breach of trust. Internet hacking can be involved with identity theft
and fraud involving credit cards, e commerce, and securities. All of those crimes can be considered up
to a felony depending upon how serious the offense was. One of the first laws dealing with the
computer crimes dates back to 1984 when the Federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act was passed.
The act prohibits accessing a computer without the authorization, or in excess of authorization. The
act has been amended multiple times, the most recent being in 2008. Richard Mann and Barry Roberts
say, The Act makes it a crime with respect to any computer that is used in interstate commerce or
communications (1) to access or damage it without authorization, (2) to access it with the intent to
commit fraud, (3) to traffic in passwords for it, and (4) to threaten to cause damage to it with the intent
to extort money or anything of value (Mann and Roberts 111). A case that correlates with this act is
LVRC Holdings LLC. V. Brekka. In 2009 Brekka who had previously worked for LVRC was
allegedly hacked information about clients and using it to start his own business to compete against
LVRC. Even if an employee accesses a computer for an improper purpose, the employee remains
authorized to access the computer until the employer revokes the employee s access. The ruling ended

Amazing Grace Play Analysis
On July 22nd, 2015, I was given the opportunity to witness a remarkable Broadway Play, called
Amazing Grace. I attended this play along with my fellow peers from the Rutgers College of Nursing
EOF program. This was the first time for most of my peers along with myself to attend a Broadway
show. Amazing Grace depicts the issue of slavery during the 1780s and the early 1800s. The main
character John Newton faced many challenges throughout the play and in the end he overcomes those
hindrances by realizing slavery degraded human beings.
One of the features that made the play exciting was the sound effect. Throughout the play, there were
many sound effects of gunshots, the ocean, and storms. These sounds captured my attention and made
me feel as if I was involved in the show. Typically, I am a person who gets uninterested easily at
things I do not enjoy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setting changed very often of the play and every new setting was excellent. It was amazing how
the people from the production of the play were able to master every setting with such a small
environment. There was this one scene toward the intermission where John Newton was travelling in a
ship and there was a storm, which destroyed the ship, and John Newton was drowning. However, John
Newton s friend, an African American slave, saved him and swam up to the shore. During this scene
there was a screen, which came down in front of the stage, and the effects made it look similar to a
view from under the ocean. Behind the screen one could see Thomas grabbing onto John Newton and
swimming up toward the surface of the water. This was truly amusing for the reason that it convinced
me to think it was actually water. Thus, the setting played a major role in capturing the attention of the
audience, which made everything look as if it was all happening in the 1780 s to

2.1 Textile sludge
Jahagirdar et al (2013) discussed the reuse of textile mill sludge in burnt clay bricks. Textile mill
sludge was mixed together with different proportion (5% to 35%) as the raw material in this study.
The brick was fired at 600 to 800ºC and for 8, 16 and 24hours. Base on the result textile sludge can be

works that forever changed the world of literature. Two of the most eminent literary works by Plath
are Tulip and Bell Jar. Tulip is a poem that follows the emotional journey of a depressed women as her
mental state deteriorates in the hospital. A different form of literature Plath wrote is are novels; and
one of her representative novels is Bell Jar, which tells the story of a young women s descent to
mental illness and her struggles of trying to find her identity as she sees a distorted version of the
world. Both literature pieces explore the theme of isolation and suffering through a variety of elements
and symbolism. By having the pieces in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Esther stands on the roof of her hotel in New York, A stiff breeze lifted the hair from [her] head. At
[her] feet, the city doused its lights in sleep, its buildings blackened, as if for a funeral (Plath 111). The
two different sentence lengths are juxtaposed against each other in order to convey the idea of loss and
inner conflict. The second sentence in the selection contains a collection of commas to elongate the
sentence to depict Estherś continue battle against her depression. Compared to the long sentences in
Bell Jar, Plath s short sentences in Tulip gets straight to the point and gives the truth in an unconcealed
manner. The speaker sees herself Between the eye of the sun and the eyes of the tulips,/And I have no
face, I have wanted to efface myself./The vivid tulips eat my oxygen (Plath 47 49). The sentences

slowly losing the motivation to continue. The choppy sentence also communicates the fact that the

The Great Communicator By Ronald Reagan
As stated in an article from Newsmakers, Ronald Reagan was known as the Great Communicator
because he was able to clearly speak to the public due to his unusual experiences before presidency
(Newsmakers). Every president of the United States has a unique story, but Reagan possessed many
remarkable characteristics. Today, many people recognize Reagan as a former president, but few know
about the struggles he faced and his success before presidency; his political party transition, handling
economic fluctuation, and his attitude throughout his terms in office made him an unforgettable
political figure. Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois and grew up in Dixon, Illinois. Dixon is a
typical small town in the midwest. Unlike many other presidents, Reagan had a rough upbringing.
According to a book titled Up Close: Ronald Reagan, his father Jack was an alcoholic. At 11 years
old, Reagan witnessed his father passed out on the porch one evening after returning from the YMCA.
He had to drag his father into the house and put him in bed. Jack was constantly fighting alcoholism
for most of his life causing him to struggle at work, fight with his family members, and disappear
from home. Reagan s mother, Nelle, continued telling him and his older brother, Neil, that their father
was addicted to alcohol and he could not control it. Nelle even sent Ronald and Neil to live with
relatives when Jack s alcohol addiction worsened. Reagan explained that he enjoyed his childhood,

In the study conducted by Lin et al.(2010), researchers investigated the utilization and validity of
assessment instrumentation for the purpose of quantifying patient pharmacist interactions involving
herbal and dietary supplementation. The purpose of the study was to develop a format of evaluation
that could effectively determine the performance of the pharmacist while counseling a patient on
herbal/ dietary remedies. Due to the broad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall goal of these counseling sessions was to assess the quality and accuracy of pharmacist s
patient counseling of herbal and supplemental products. The initial pilot study was of small scale and
20 out of 34 pharmacists completed the PC G/ PC HDS centered counseling sessions with their
pharmacist. The pharmacists recruited for these initial sessions were selected based on their having a
variety of experience with counseling patients on the use of herbal and supplemental products. The
subsequent study, which was larger in scale was conducted using pharmacists that had professional
experience in counseling patients and knowledge of herbal and supplemental products. 179 out of 330
patients completed the validation large scale study (Lin et al., 2010).
Parameters were set for the pharmacists, to guide the patient counseling interactions. Patient
interviews were designed as both study specific knowledge, attitude, behavior (KAB) surveys as well
as Likert type surveys. Specific counseling dialogue was expected to be centered around three main
categories of patient interviewing, as set by APhA and other literature. These categories included
fostering relationships/ information gathering, assessment and plan/follow up (Lin et al. , 2010).
Ultimately, there were eleven items that fell under the three main categories that guided the
pharmacists further in their line of questioning.
Overall, the study determined that not only did the parameters of questioning

Similarities Between The Matrix And Plato s Allegory Of...
The movie The Matrix follows a character named Neo through his struggle adapting to the truth as
well as to a new form of reality. The plot of the film is closely related to that of Plato s Allegory of the
Cave. The idea of freeing one s mind and soul from illusion is stressed in both the film as well as in
Plato s theory. Neo is trapped in a false reality created by a computer program that took over the
world. The plot certainly contains other conflicts such as good versus evil and reality versus illusion.
In the film, Neo is taken away from the matrix and learns that he is the one to save the humans from
the illusion of what the world is actually like. Plato s Allegory of the Cave is similar in that there were

The Truman Show emphasizes the formation of false relationships, the loss of identity and the self
deception that comes with virtual reality. Descartes ideas of seeking knowledge to understand the truth
is widely evident throughout the film. Similarly to Descartes skepticism regarding knowledge derived
from the senses, Truman begins to doubt what he believes as well. After seeing his deceased father, he
becomes uncertain about his existence and the people around him, such as when he begins testing the
people of Seahaven and concludes that there are loose threads and slips of the tongue. Unlike
Descartes, though, Truman does not question every part of his reality like physical aspects, but he,
nonetheless, believes that nothing in his world is genuine and that everyone around him is in on it.
Truman s idea to abandon his trust in knowledge through the senses as well as his skepticism for his
surroundings is predominantly similar to Descartes methods to uncovering his own reality.
Furthermore, Descartes theory of the evil demon can be a way to explain how Truman was forced into
a false reality. Descartes description of the evil demon is similar to the character Christof, the director
and creator of the Truman Show. Similar to the evil demon theory, Christof chooses the

The Eyes And The Gaze Of The Male Psyche
The word Gaze can be defined as: to look steadily and intently, as with great curiosity, interest,
pleasure, or wonder. When using this definition in a theatrical sense it is imperative to determine who
is the one gazing and who is being gazed at. In the instance of David Bowie and Enter Achilles the
gaze and subsequent objectification varies due to the performers wished effect. For instance they each
use techniques to garner their desired gaze from the audience through the use of clothing and
semiotics. Both examples have interesting undertones of sexuality in relation to their objectification
from the audience members. Stereotypically, the male gaze has connotations of men staring and
objectifying women but the two examples create a way for themselves to be gazed upon as opposed to
being the one who gazes. After premiering in 1995 DV8 s performance of Enter Achilles was
proclaimed A funny, cruel exploration of the male psyche (DV8 website). This performance aims to
challenge the stereotypical characteristics of what it takes to be an alpha male set against the backdrop
of the 90s lad culture . The performance creates a sense of power that males possess before pushing
this to the point of parody, thus, exposing the male weakness. This is shown through the pack
mentality that many of the male characters have. Throughout the performance it is rare to see a male
character who is on their own for a length of time. DV8 show this mentality through strength in
numbers that

Analysis Of Howard Zinn s Historian As Citizen
The essay Historian as Citizen by Howard Zinn presents a call to action for historians everywhere. To
start, he analyzes the delicate need for balance that comes with studying history, how historians can
use patterns of the past to judge contemporary events, but must not overlook the universe of tricks
outside that realm. Next, he argues we must also transcend the present and act as if we are freer than
logic may suggest. Finally, Zinn delves into the negative aspects of society s long established blame
game and submits his proposed solution. Through this text, Zinn seeks a drastic shift in focus from
antiquity to activism for historians to stop merely scrutinizing old facts but instead use them as tools
with which to examine human nature and build a better tomorrow. The strengths of Historian as
Citizen lie in Zinn s practicality. For example, one of the things he advocates for is acting in spite of
oppressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He writes, It is risky to act as if we are free, but (unless one is content with things as they are) it is just
as risky to act as if we are bound, and there is even less chance of reward (Zinn 45). This lays out the
options, plain and simple. One can either act and have a chance at improving quality of life, or not act
and depend completely on the even more unlikely case of outside intervention. This points out that
surrendering to logic in the face of weighty obstacles and giving up is in fact illogical. Furthermore, he
emphasizes the importance of searching within. Zinn points out, When the United States defines the
Soviet sphere as totalitarian and the West as free, it becomes difficult for Americans to see totalitarian
elements in our society (Zinn

How Did Isaac Newton Contribute To Physics
Born on January 4th, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, England, Isaac Newton was an established mathematician
and physician. He is credited as one of the greatest minds of the 17th century Scientific Revolution.
With his discoveries in optics, motion, and mathematics, Newton developed the principles of modern
physics. He also shares credit with Gottfried Leibniz for the creation/development of Calculus.
In 1666, Newton began contributing to the field of optics, first by observing that color was a property
of light by measuring it through a prism. From 1670 to 1672, he lectured at the University of
Cambridge on optics and investigated the refraction of light, demonstrating that the multicolored
spectrum produced by a prism could be recomposed into white light by a lens and a second prism. In
1687, he published his best known work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical
Principles of Natural Philosophy), which has been called the most influential book on physics. The
Principia states Newton s laws of motion, forming the foundation of mechanics, Newton s law of
universal gravitation, and the origin of Kepler s laws of planetary motion. In the Principia Newton

required to accelerate it. The third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite

Integrated Thematic Units Essay
INTRODUCTION Benjamin Franklin once said Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn. So, the question I pose today is how do we involve children so that they learn?
How do we spark that want inside of a student to because a lifelong learner. The best way to build
students knowledge and thirst for greater understanding is by creating connections. Having
connections between prior knowledge, different subject areas, the outside world, and what is being
learned now and in the future will help students to achieve higher levels of thinking, as well as, the
twenty first century knowledge and skills that are needed in the collegiate and professional words
today. One way to make these connections is by using integrated thematic units. Inga Randle (1997)
discussed the fourth grade students of Barbara Pedersen who were so eager to learn they would
willingly skip recess to be in the classroom learning. Pedersen used integrated thematic instruction to
inspire her students. So, by learning what an integrated thematic unit is, why integrated thematic units
should be used, and how to use integrated thematic units teachers can become more like Barbara
Pedersen and prepare students more for independent thinking and higher education.
WHAT IS AN INTEGRATED THEMATIC UNIT? Patricia Roberts (1996) describes integrated
curriculum as a way of teaching and a way of planning and organizing the instructional program so the

Power And Politics Organization Theory
Power and Politics Organization Theory Power and politics have always been around but seldom
openly discussed. Power is learned at an early age through family and schools. Ordinary people such
as scholars hesitate to talk about power. It is often equated with force brutality, unethical behavior,
manipulation, connivance, and subjugation. Power and Politics organization theory was derived from
the modern structural organization in the 1970 s to its present today. In the modern structural,
organizational economics, and systems/environment theories of organization, organizations are
assumed to be rational institutions with its primary purpose is to accomplish established goals. People
in formal authority set goals. The question is how best is it to design and manage organizations in
achieving its purpose effectively and efficiently? Politics plays an increasing role as individuals merge
into the work force. Power, politics and influence are essential and permanent fact of organizational
life (Shafritz, Ott, Jang, 2011). Jeffery Pfeffer Understanding the Role of Power in Decision Making
Pfeffer explores the advantages and limitations of power. Pfeffer states that if power is a force, a store
of potential influence through which events can be affected, politics involves those activities or
behaviors through which power is developed and used in organizational settings. Power is a property
of the system at rest; politics is the study of power in action (Shafritz, Ott,

The Work Of Henry Ford Made A Lasting Impact On America Essay
When Americans get into their vehicles every day to go to work or school, they do not normally think
about how much transportation has evolved over the years. People started out walking and then later
moved to horse and buggies. During the early 1800 s, railroads were being built from east to west in
this country and trains began to take over. As cities grew, people looked for ways to travel more
efficiently. The work of Henry Ford made a lasting impact on America in regards to both
transportation and manufacturing. Henry Ford was much like other children growing up. Ford was
born on July 30, 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. He was raised on a farm and others could tell he would
be extremely successful in his future. In order to learn more about the engines and be more successful,
Henry Ford built friendships with the men who ran the full sized steam engines. He learned how to fix
watches in order to understand how machines worked. Ford was intrigued by machines and went the
extra mile to learn more about them. He was willing to risk it all just to pursue his dream and would
not let a bump in the road stop him. Henry Ford decided to take the risk of pursuing his dream of
machines when he left the family farm in 1879 to work at a car company in Michigan. He believed he
had more of an interest in machines than he did in farming, but his father thought differently. Ford s
father wanted him to follow his footsteps on the farm, but unfortunately, it did not turn out in his

Distribution
The Pacific Walrus, Odobenus rosmarus divergens, make up 90% of the world s population of
walruses while the Atlantic Walrus, Odobenus rosmarus rosmarus, and the Laptev Walrus, Odobenus
rosmarus laptevi, make up about 10% combined (Jay, 2008). The estimated population of Odobenus
rosmarus rosmarus is 10,000 19,000 (Jefferson, 2008). Walruses inhabit the relatively shallow waters
along the coast in the North Atlantic, the Bering Sea and the Artic Ocean near North America and
Eurasia (Figure 4) (Reeves, 2002). No walruses are not found in North Carolina.
Figure 4. The areas shaded in blue represent the global range of the Atlantic Walrus, Odobenus
rosmarus (WWF, 2017).
Habitat
Odobenus rosmarus rosmarus inhabits artic waters. They usually are seen on islands in the artic and on
floating sheets of ice called ice floes. They are also usually found and seen in groups called herds
(Burt, 1952). Atlantic walrus need large open bodies of water that are shallow, less than 80m, because
those areas are usually rich in clams and invertebrates for them to eat. Walrus also need ice or land
nearby so they can haul out of the water. In the summer and fall when the ice is scarce, they will haul
out in large groups near low rocky shores (DFO, 2017).

Persuasive Speech On You Are Alone
You are alone in a room. You have 2 minutes till your death. You have a phone. Do you make a call?
Who do you call?
Growing up I was led to believe that when you die it will be of old age, in a hospital bed with loved
ones surrounding you. You are able to say goodbye to those you care for and tell them what you have
been waiting and wanting to say. Even if they aren t there it is important to let them know everything
and tell them what they mean to you. And no, this isn t just so you feel better about yourself it is one
of you last acts on this earth, your last chance to say what needs to be said to those that matter to you.
It isn t something that is normally talked about but it needs to be, it is something that will happen to
just about everyone and you need to be prepared.
Guaranteed, this is the hardest thing you will EVER have to do. You can t avoid it, it is something you
will have to do. Many people believe that you should not make this contact to your family, you should
just leave them alone. I think different. This is the last time they will ever hear your voice or read your
message. This small act reflects who you are and is a part of you that will stay with those people
forever. For those people that were tragically lost in the twin towers attacks, this a decision they were
faced with. Many of their families had to answer or listen to these calls that their loved ones left that
they are now so thank full of as all I needed was that message, and I think that he

Business Needs Of Mr. Smith s Bakery Essay
ntroduction:
In this project, we address the business needs of Mr.Smith s Bakery. This business is a bakery that
deals mostly with larger orders meant for parties, restaurants and large events. The bakery is primary a
business to business entity and customers call ahead to place orders. These orders are generally a bulk
order of a few products. Although the bakery is fictitious, this sort of business exist and is very
common way to operate a bakery. With the hassle of trying to keep paper and Excel records on
multiple tabs and folders, an Access database was the ideal solution.
The business has four currently employees, including Mr.Smith. The product categories is extensive
but for the sake of the database, we only included a handful to demonstrate that the database works
and that the calculations are done accurately and timely. Each product has a few ingredients that
should be tracked so that Mr.Smith knows how much of each ingredients are needed, giving the
business a better estimate of what is needed and if they can fulfill the orders.
The process of finding out the business rules, developing the database and solving the problems is
shown in greater detail in the following sections.
Project Background:
Mr.Smith s Bakery is not a real bakery that any of us are aware of. However, producing large
quantities of products as demanded by large customers is the ideal way to run a large bakery. Running

By the turn of the century hundred of small companies were producing automobiles both in Europe
and in America. By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different parts of the
world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and reached its peak of
production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a downward trend, but if
trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe and Japan too, total
production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation was exacerbated by the
tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about here] As a result, the
automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing countries for market
opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand,
Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these markets became increasingly
saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as the “ next wave” of attractive
markets. With the opening of many of these countries to trade and direct investment, the world

General Electric ( Ge )
General Electric General Electric (GE abbreviated) was started with Thomas Edison s invention of the
light bulb. Both Thomas Edison and JP Morgan started the Edison Lamp Company, which later
became known as General Electric. The people at GE are committed to making a world that works
better. General Electric does not have a standard mission statement, but they explain their objectives
by the simple equation seen below. General Electric, as seen in the equation above, looks at what the
world needs, finds a better way to produce that need and does all of this with a relentless drive to
invent and build things that matter. And this equation equals a world that will work better. GE takes
pride in the over all quality of their products and wants stakeholders to know that they are very
customer driven and will put the customer first and foremost. In the GE work equation, they do not
reference the teamwork, customer, excellence and other attributes they may have, but they do focus on
markets served, citizenship, employees, and their self concept. General Electric was actually founded
in 1892 when Edison General Electric and The Thompson Houston Company merged to become The
General Electric Company with Charles A. Coffin as the first president. Since the formation of the
company, General Electric has come to be the top contributor in health, science, and technology, more
so than any other company. There have been some remarkable times for General Electric shown in

Infective Endocarditis
Infective endocarditis is the inflammation of the damaged parts of the heart due to an infection usually
from elsewhere in the body. In this disease the endocardium (the inner lining of the heart) is inflamed
and can lead to damaged heart valves and to other life threatening complications. William Osler was
the first one to recognize this disease and gave a name to it in 1885 in his Gulstonian lectures.
When a patient s heart has a defect or a part that is not as strong as the rest then that part is susceptible
to infective endocarditis. This tends to come from blood flowing from a higher pressure area in the
heart to a lower pressured area. This causes an indention in the heart s endocardium that collects
deposits. When patients have bacteremia, the presence of infectious bacteria in the blood, the bacteria
often fall into these indentions and start to collect. Once they have started to collect they will multiply
and are called vegetation.
Once vegetation happens there is an increased risk of having an abnormal alignment in the valve that
the vegetation is around. This can cause a decreased blood flow or even a blocked valve. This may
cause emboli to escape from the heart and head to other sections of the body (i.e. the lungs or the
brain) depending which valve is being effected. Different ways that the bacteria can get in the blood
are: dental procedures, skin rashes, infections, abscesses, invasive procedures, and surgeries.
The nursing process should be

Archimedes was a very intelligent and a great man. He is thought of as one of the three greatest
mathematicians of all time, along with Newton and Gauss. In his time he was referred to by such great
aliases as The wise one , The Master , and The Great Geometer . And his work has yet to have been

Archimedes also gave an accurate approximation to p and showed that he could approximate square

surprisingly called Archimedes principle. His works that have survived include: On plane equilibriums

people would claim his accomplishments as their own, so the genius that was Archimedes, came out
with some phony discoveries and when it was found out that that they were false the copying pretty

they pretty much just listened to what ever he had to say. His impact on mathematics was huge, for

European Exploration Dbq Essay
While documents written by explorers may state that their voyages were done in the name of God,
religion was not the main motive for European exploration. Other motives included the European
economy and new developments in technology.
The European economy was the primary motive for European explorers to voyage and conquer the
unknowns.
In the words of David Arnold, gold, jewels, silks, carpets, spices, and porcelain suggested luxury,
wealth, skilled artisans and thriving craft industries, and it was this image of Africa and Asia s riches
that helped inspire the first European voyages of discovery (Arnold 11). Europe could essentially see

In the course of the fifteenth century, the Portuguese developed the caravel, a small, light, three
masted sailing ship. Though somewhat slower than the galley, the caravel held more cargo and was
highly maneuverable. When fitted with a cannon, it could dominate larger vessels, such as the round
ships commonly used in commerce (Buckler 501 502). With the caravel, the Portuguese had the
advantage over other ships in trade and were able to reach new parts of the world. The utilization of
cannons and their compatibility with ships also gave Europeans a distinct advantage at sea. Although
cannons posed serious technical difficulties for land warfare, they could be used at sea. The mounting
of cannon on ships and improved techniques of shipbuilding gave impetus to European expansion
(Buckler 501). The use of cannons eliminated many of the dangers that explorers without cannons
might have, such as pirates or warships of hostile countries. But the technological advancements used
in European exploration expanded far beyond weaponry. Instruments such as the compass and the
nocturnal were essential in voyages. In fact, Christopher Columbus s successful thirty three day
voyage to the Caribbean owed a great deal to his seamanship and his knowledge and skillful use of
instruments (Buckler 506). Even skilled sailors like Columbus needed the advancements in technology

relationships and/or agreements with China, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the U.S. s interdependencies with other countries, Friedman argued that this country needs a
national leader who can see how all the dots (or presidential decisions) connect, and he clearly
believes that Donald Trump is the exact opposite of what this country needs and what the majority
wants.
As previously noted, Friedman used logos, or claims of fact, to support and further his argument. He
factually summarized the Trans Pacific Partnership, the North American security envelope, and events
of 9/11. He detailed Trump s actions, which have been reported repeatedly by various news sources.
For example, various media outlets reported that Trump made disparaging remarks about Judge
Robart, calling him a so called judge and labeling his ruling ridiculous (Heisig, Trump s comments on
judiciary ). Furthermore, his analogies and cause effect relationships evoked cognitive, rational
responses. For example, when arguing that the results of Trump s wall to keep out Mexican
immigrants would cause problems for U.S. companies doing business in and with Mexico, he
compared it to tighter security at the U.S. Mexican border during 9/11, which caused U.S. companies
like Ford to shut down assembly lines because their supply chain extends to Mexico. Additionally, he
appealed to the reader s logic when discussing how Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. paired together after
9/11 to share information about potential security threats entering North America and how building a

  • 2. Zionism and Non Zionists Essays Zionism declares that the Jews are more than a purely religious body, they are not only a race but also a nation (Berkowitz 376). Theodor Herzl, the father of political Zionism, states, We are a people one people. Both Herzl and Berkowitz have interesting key points about a Jewish State, the Jewish religion in general, and how to solve current issues in the religion. A State is formed by a social contract and is still being created today. Rousseau states, The conditions of this contract are so precisely defined by the nature of the agreement that the slightest alterations would make them null and void. The consequence is that, even where they are not expressly stated, they are everywhere identical, and everywhere tacitly accepted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fact proves that all Jews should and will stand together to solve and work out the problems such as poor treatment and portrayal. Herzl emphasizes, It is true that the Jewish State is conceived as a peculiarly modern structure on unspecified territory. But a State is formed, not by pieces of land, but rather by a number of men united under sovereign rule. For example, the portrayal of Jews from a non Zionist is much different from Zionists. It is an egregious and fatal error of the Zionists that they accept the misery of Israel as permanent, his wretchedness as hopeless (Berkowitz 372). Although forming a State or declaring an important religion can be difficult, there are many other risks such as, land disputes, current communities moving to a new land, views of merging with other countries, past and future suffering, and the most important, the emphasis on religion or nation. The first step to becoming a respected religious State is forming a society of Jews to perform scientific and political tasks. Second, Christians and current citizens of the State would be forced to move and find new land, like in times of war or destroyed land. Herzl does point out that if the Jewish State had help from the Christians it would become a peaceable voluntary departure of colonists. Third, the Jews have attempted to merge many places in the social life of other countries and to prefer faith of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Aspects Of City Life In The Truman Show We accept the reality of the world with which we re presented. It s as simple as that, quoted Christof (Ed Harris) when asked about Truman s oblivion to reality versus the city surrounding him. When presented with a film like The Truman Show, Peter Weir (Director) raises questions about the Real , how does it function in society and why is it seen as a desirable living environment? What are the typical aspects of city life that can be depicted in an artificial space? Midway through the film the hidden cameras on the set revealed that the set is placed in the centre of Hollywood, Los Angeles instead of the man made creation of Seahaven Island. The main protagonist, Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) is raised to grow up in a reconstructed world, where his friends and neighbors are all hired actors/actresses without his knowledge. His world is influenced by what is called New Urbanism in the 1980s where cities tried to transform back into original middle class lifestyles to restore cleanliness, walkability and a family friendly neighborhood. The Truman Show seems to represent a contrasting view on American cities such as New York, Chicago or even Los Angeles, thus also critiques the arguments presented on the negative aspects of city life by theorists such as Tom Slater. Seahaven Island presents the pretentious attitudes in a city where everyone greets one another but only through distinct small talks, placed against the landscape of small patches of well groomed grass and ... • 4. The Dangers of Metabolife Essay The Dangers of Metabolife Obesity: The term obese implies that one is very fat , extremely overweight, and often carries negative connotations. However the scientific definition describes obese in a non judgmental way that simply expresses ones weight as a number, a certain body mass index (BMI). Since the early 1980s, BMI has been the medical standard for obtaining obesity measurements (http://www.quantumhcp.com/obesity.htm). Government researchers and scientists developed the BMI to take height into account in weight measurements. It is important to realize that one cannot determine if one is obese based solely on ones weight. For example, if one weighs 145 pounds, is he or she considered to be obese? The answer to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact must be faced; obesity is increasing in numbers. However, it is interesting to note that as the number of overweight individuals increases, so too does the various methods of reducing caloric and fat intake. In today s busy society Americans are willing to try almost any weight loss product on the market in order to reach their goal of thinness. Americans are turning to herbal supplements in record numbers as a means of attaining their dietary needs and goals. One of the best selling herbal supplements on the market is Metabolife 356â (http://www.metabolife.com/news/100199.htm). What is Metabolife? Metabolife 356â is an herbal supplement whose purpose is to increase weight loss by burning fat and increasing energy levels, (http://www.w8lossbiz.com/metabolife/index.html). Simply put, Metabolife 356â raises the body s metabolism and creates a thermogenic (increase in metabolism and fat burning) response. Metabolife 356â is one of America s best selling herbal supplements, but where did it come from? The Origins of Metabolife 356â Michael J. Ellis developed the herbal supplement in the early 1990s as a means to help his father counter the fatigue of cancer treatment. Ellis, a former California police officer has had no medical experience; however, he was linked to a methamphetamine lab bust in 1990 (Cowley Reno, 1999). Methamphetamine is also known as meth and is an illegal street drug chemically related to ephedrine. In 1992 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Story Of Genji Genji lit the candles as he set them up around the room. He discovered earlier that the power to the building shut off once the tours were finished. He walked out onto the balcony as the moon hung high up in the sky. The faint honking and shouting of the city filled the air as the wind whirled into his bedroom. Slowly, he sat down on the ground as he crossed his legs. His left hand remained expended as his right closed into his palm. His eyes fell closed as he took a deep breath, the whirl of his vents filled his ears. He was used to it by now, it was his rhythm it allowed him to relax. Genji called out to his dragon hoping to receive an answer this time. When he tried earlier he was answered with complete silence. Relax, Genji. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He remembered him and his brother running through the halls screaming and laughing. Hello? Zenyatta said. Genji snapped himself out of his thoughts as he looked at the omnic on the screen. Hey, master. You alright, Genji? Genji fell silent as he glanced around the room. No, I m not. I believe this was a mistake master. Genji stated as he rubbed his hands together. The small sparks rushing through his arms and he reached up unclipping the face plate. Setting it beside his leg, he leaned more into the headboard. Explain it to me. Zenyatta stated. Genji couldn t think of the words, and grabbed the device. Walking out into the hallway, he pointed the camera to the sword allowing the monk to see it. That is the blade my brother used. Genji whispered. You told me that he probably regretted the action, but that says otherwise doesn t it. There was silence from the monk. You told me that Hanzo never had a choice once he became the head of the clan. He didn t. You believe it was him who put it up? Zenyatta questioned. An ideal Saturday afternoon with temperatures at a fairly comfortable 80 degrees, the air permeated with the tantalizing smell of a barbecue or two around the neighborhood. Boys played pick up baseball at the nearby recreational dugout. Girls played hopscotch and giggled at boys they fancied passing by on bicycles. Neighbors waved to each other as they passed on the chalk laden sidewalks, and the trees were exuding the pleasant song of birds perched upon their branches. This was it. The perfect summer day. A young, fair haired boy named Bobby, rode around the neighborhood aimlessly on his brand new, bright red Schwinn bicycle, which he had received as an 11th birthday present less than a month earlier. A small transistor radio was hanging from one of the handles, belting out Dee Dee Sharp s Mashed Potato Time at a boisterous volume. Mr. Hargis, the resident Neighborhood Grouch, was watering his lawn and smoking a fresh cigar. Bobby, being fascinated by Mr. Hargis, stopped pedaling and planted his feet to the ground, watching intently from a safe distance. Mr. Hargis sensed the eyes on him and raised his head toward the direction, locking eyes with the boy. • 9. Summary Of Lewis Thomas On Societies As Organisms We, human beings feel distinctly unique, individual and most importantly, unmistakably superior due to our exclusive intelligence. This is why we, as a society, tend to look down on other types of life forms, insect or animal, as they do not possess that desired intellect. Yet, Lewis Thomas, in his opinion essay On Societies as Organisms , argues that human society has much to learn from the communal accomplishment of other life forms. The author effectively conveys this main idea through his use of analogy, enumeration of examples and through his level of language. To begin, Thomas astutely uses analogies to make parallels between human society and other life forms as to inform us of our deficiencies when contrasted with those other life forms. Thomas, first of all, defines an organism as being a live computer (233) composed of component parts (233), an accumulation of individuals communicating and working as one towards a common objective. Subsequently, the analogy of the organism is used to represent the ideal human society. Hence, when ants build their nest (233), the Hill (233), humans build their knowledge, accumulate a mountain of knowledge (235). However, what Thomas wants us to acknowledge is that human knowledge is a jigsaw puzzle in the sense that it is accumulated piece by piece, never all at once, never by a single individual (Ziman qtd. in ... Sexual Assault On College Campuses Research Paper Sexual assault is a topic that no one wants to cover, but almost everyone endures, or knows someone who has endured it throughout their lives. Particularly, sexual assault on college campuses is a huge deal. One in five women are sexually assaulted, which is a number that is insane to think about. In reference to the article on ending college sexual assault, the way the initial victim Maya reacted to the sexual assault is the same way many others do as well. Not only does it go unreported, which leaves the door open for continued sexual assault, she also fell behind on her studies as her mental state deteriorated. That example represents many students worldwide across campuses, and that is something that is just not alright. In 2011, Russlyn Ali wrote a letter titled Dear Colleague which shined some light on the scenario of sexual assault on campuses, and said a lot of it was up to the universities themselves to help fix the problem. Before the 2011 call to action, campuses across the nation just did whatever they chose to do, due to the fact that the federal laws surrounding sexual assault on campuses were so rarely enforced. The Pros And Cons Of Internet Hacking Internet hacking is considered a white collar crime, which means it is a nonviolent crime; however, it involves deceit, corruption, and a breach of trust. Internet hacking can be involved with identity theft and fraud involving credit cards, e commerce, and securities. All of those crimes can be considered up to a felony depending upon how serious the offense was. One of the first laws dealing with the computer crimes dates back to 1984 when the Federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act was passed. The act prohibits accessing a computer without the authorization, or in excess of authorization. The act has been amended multiple times, the most recent being in 2008. Richard Mann and Barry Roberts say, The Act makes it a crime with respect to any computer that is used in interstate commerce or communications (1) to access or damage it without authorization, (2) to access it with the intent to commit fraud, (3) to traffic in passwords for it, and (4) to threaten to cause damage to it with the intent to extort money or anything of value (Mann and Roberts 111). When using this definition in a theatrical sense it is imperative to determine who is the one gazing and who is being gazed at. In the instance of David Bowie and Enter Achilles the gaze and subsequent objectification varies due to the performers wished effect. For instance they each use techniques to garner their desired gaze from the audience through the use of clothing and semiotics. Both examples have interesting undertones of sexuality in relation to their objectification from the audience members. Next, he argues we must also transcend the present and act as if we are freer than logic may suggest. Finally, Zinn delves into the negative aspects of society s long established blame game and submits his proposed solution. Through this text, Zinn seeks a drastic shift in focus from antiquity to activism for historians to stop merely scrutinizing old facts but instead use them as tools with which to examine human nature and build a better tomorrow. From 1670 to 1672, he lectured at the University of Cambridge on optics and investigated the refraction of light, demonstrating that the multicolored spectrum produced by a prism could be recomposed into white light by a lens and a second prism. In 1687, he published his best known work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), which has been called the most influential book on physics. The Principia states Newton s laws of motion, forming the foundation of mechanics, Newton s law of universal gravitation, and the origin of Kepler s laws of planetary motion. • 28. Integrated Thematic Units Essay INTRODUCTION Benjamin Franklin once said Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. So, the question I pose today is how do we involve children so that they learn? How do we spark that want inside of a student to because a lifelong learner. The best way to build students knowledge and thirst for greater understanding is by creating connections. Having connections between prior knowledge, different subject areas, the outside world, and what is being learned now and in the future will help students to achieve higher levels of thinking, as well as, the twenty first century knowledge and skills that are needed in the collegiate and professional words today. One way to make these connections is by using integrated thematic units. Inga Randle (1997) discussed the fourth grade students of Barbara Pedersen who were so eager to learn they would willingly skip recess to be in the classroom learning. Pedersen used integrated thematic instruction to inspire her students. So, by learning what an integrated thematic unit is, why integrated thematic units should be used, and how to use integrated thematic units teachers can become more like Barbara Pedersen and prepare students more for independent thinking and higher education. WHAT IS AN INTEGRATED THEMATIC UNIT? Patricia Roberts (1996) describes integrated curriculum as a way of teaching and a way of planning and organizing the instructional program so the discrete disciplines of subject matter are ... • 29. Power And Politics Organization Theory Power and Politics Organization Theory Power and politics have always been around but seldom openly discussed. Power is learned at an early age through family and schools. Ordinary people such as scholars hesitate to talk about power. It is often equated with force brutality, unethical behavior, manipulation, connivance, and subjugation. Power and Politics organization theory was derived from the modern structural organization in the 1970 s to its present today. In the modern structural, organizational economics, and systems/environment theories of organization, organizations are assumed to be rational institutions with its primary purpose is to accomplish established goals. People in formal authority set goals. The question is how best is it to design and manage organizations in achieving its purpose effectively and efficiently? Politics plays an increasing role as individuals merge into the work force. Power, politics and influence are essential and permanent fact of organizational life (Shafritz, Ott, Jang, 2011). Jeffery Pfeffer Understanding the Role of Power in Decision Making Pfeffer explores the advantages and limitations of power. Pfeffer states that if power is a force, a store of potential influence through which events can be affected, politics involves those activities or behaviors through which power is developed and used in organizational settings. Power is a property of the system at rest; politics is the study of power in action (Shafritz, Ott, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Work Of Henry Ford Made A Lasting Impact On America Essay When Americans get into their vehicles every day to go to work or school, they do not normally think about how much transportation has evolved over the years. People started out walking and then later moved to horse and buggies. During the early 1800 s, railroads were being built from east to west in this country and trains began to take over. As cities grew, people looked for ways to travel more efficiently. The work of Henry Ford made a lasting impact on America in regards to both transportation and manufacturing. Henry Ford was much like other children growing up. Ford was born on July 30, 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. He was raised on a farm and others could tell he would be extremely successful in his future. In order to learn more about the engines and be more successful, Henry Ford built friendships with the men who ran the full sized steam engines. He learned how to fix watches in order to understand how machines worked. Ford was intrigued by machines and went the extra mile to learn more about them. He was willing to risk it all just to pursue his dream and would not let a bump in the road stop him. Henry Ford decided to take the risk of pursuing his dream of machines when he left the family farm in 1879 to work at a car company in Michigan. He believed he had more of an interest in machines than he did in farming, but his father thought differently. Ford s father wanted him to follow his footsteps on the farm, but unfortunately, it did not turn out in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different parts of the world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and reached its peak of production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a downward trend, but if trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe and Japan too, total production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation was exacerbated by the tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about here] As a result, the automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing countries for market opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these markets became increasingly saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as the “ next wave” of attractive markets. • 36. General Electric ( Ge ) General Electric General Electric (GE abbreviated) was started with Thomas Edison s invention of the light bulb. Both Thomas Edison and JP Morgan started the Edison Lamp Company, which later became known as General Electric. The people at GE are committed to making a world that works better. General Electric does not have a standard mission statement, but they explain their objectives by the simple equation seen below. General Electric, as seen in the equation above, looks at what the world needs, finds a better way to produce that need and does all of this with a relentless drive to invent and build things that matter. And this equation equals a world that will work better. GE takes pride in the over all quality of their products and wants stakeholders to know that they are very customer driven and will put the customer first and foremost. In the GE work equation, they do not reference the teamwork, customer, excellence and other attributes they may have, but they do focus on markets served, citizenship, employees, and their self concept. General Electric was actually founded in 1892 when Edison General Electric and The Thompson Houston Company merged to become The General Electric Company with Charles A. Coffin as the first president. Since the formation of the company, General Electric has come to be the top contributor in health, science, and technology, more so than any other company. • 37. Infective Endocarditis Infective endocarditis is the inflammation of the damaged parts of the heart due to an infection usually from elsewhere in the body. In this disease the endocardium (the inner lining of the heart) is inflamed and can lead to damaged heart valves and to other life threatening complications. William Osler was the first one to recognize this disease and gave a name to it in 1885 in his Gulstonian lectures. When a patient s heart has a defect or a part that is not as strong as the rest then that part is susceptible to infective endocarditis. This tends to come from blood flowing from a higher pressure area in the heart to a lower pressured area. This causes an indention in the heart s endocardium that collects deposits. When patients have bacteremia, the presence of infectious bacteria in the blood, the bacteria often fall into these indentions and start to collect. Once they have started to collect they will multiply and are called vegetation. Once vegetation happens there is an increased risk of having an abnormal alignment in the valve that the vegetation is around. This can cause a decreased blood flow or even a blocked valve. This may cause emboli to escape from the heart and head to other sections of the body (i.e. the lungs or the brain) depending which valve is being effected. Different ways that the bacteria can get in the blood are: dental procedures, skin rashes, infections, abscesses, invasive procedures, and surgeries. The nursing process should be ... His works that have survived include: On plane equilibriums (two books), Quadrature of the parabola, On the sphere and cylinder (two books), On spirals, On conoids and spheroids, On floating bodies (two books), Measurement of a circle, and The Sandreckoner. His discoveries were very well welcomed among his peers, so much that many a times people would claim his accomplishments as their own, so the genius that was Archimedes, came out with some phony discoveries and when it was found out that that they were false the copying pretty much stopped from there on. Other motives included the European economy and new developments in technology. The European economy was the primary motive for European explorers to voyage and conquer the unknowns. In the words of David Arnold, gold, jewels, silks, carpets, spices, and porcelain suggested luxury, wealth, skilled artisans and thriving craft industries, and it was this image of Africa and Asia s riches that helped inspire the first European voyages of discovery (Arnold 11). In the course of the fifteenth century, the Portuguese developed the caravel, a small, light, three masted sailing ship. Though somewhat slower than the galley, the caravel held more cargo and was highly maneuverable. When fitted with a cannon, it could dominate larger vessels, such as the round ships commonly used in commerce (Buckler 501 502). With the caravel, the Portuguese had the advantage over other ships in trade and were able to reach new parts of the world. The utilization of cannons and their compatibility with ships also gave Europeans a distinct advantage at sea. Although cannons posed serious technical difficulties for land warfare, they could be used at sea. The mounting of cannon on ships and improved techniques of shipbuilding gave impetus to European expansion (Buckler 501). The use of cannons eliminated many of the dangers that explorers without cannons might have, such as pirates or warships of hostile countries. But the technological advancements used in European exploration expanded far beyond weaponry. Instruments such as the compass and the nocturnal were essential in voyages. In fact, Christopher Columbus s successful thirty three day voyage to the Caribbean owed a great deal to his seamanship and his knowledge and skillful use of instruments (Buckler 506). Even skilled sailors like Columbus needed the advancements in technology to be fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One month has passed since his inauguration day, and Trump s actions as president have given rise to continued protests and outcries. One of those voices crying in the wilderness is Thomas Friedman, columnist for the New York Times. Friedman has already written several articles about Donald Trump this year. Due to the U.S. s interdependencies with other countries, Friedman argued that this country needs a national leader who can see how all the dots (or presidential decisions) connect, and he clearly believes that Donald Trump is the exact opposite of what this country needs and what the majority wants. As previously noted, Friedman used logos, or claims of fact, to support and further his argument. He factually summarized the Trans Pacific Partnership, the North American security envelope, and events of 9/11. He detailed Trump s actions, which have been reported repeatedly by various news sources. For example, various media outlets reported that Trump made disparaging remarks about Judge Robart, calling him a so called judge and labeling his ruling ridiculous (Heisig, Trump s comments on judiciary ). Furthermore, his analogies and cause effect relationships evoked cognitive, rational responses. For example, when arguing that the results of Trump s wall to keep out Mexican immigrants would cause problems for U.S. companies doing business in and with Mexico, he compared it to tighter security at the U.S. Mexican border during 9/11, which caused U.S. companies like Ford to shut down assembly lines because their supply chain extends to Mexico. Additionally, he appealed to the reader s logic when discussing how Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. paired together after 9/11 to share information about potential security threats entering North America and how building a ...
