Theories Of Domestic Violence
A therapist can help victims cope with their situation and work through the challenging emotions they
may have The number one reason domestic violence victims stay or return to an abusive relationship
is that they do not have access to financial resources to break free. Domestic violence results in high
turnover and absence at work, extended sick leaves, and losses of productivity (Jones 12). Financial
abuse is a method of controlling the victim. The abusers use isolating tactics, such as preventing them
from working, accessing bank accounts, credit cards, and forms of transportation so that the victim is
totally dependent on the abuser compromising their financial liberties. It is difficult for a victim to
seek help in situations where

Identity
No person puts themselves in the same category as others, each person has different values and
perceives themselves completely different than everyone else. An identity is the set of characteristics
and the state of being that defines a person and makes them unique. No one decides for themselves
what they value; from birth everyone has choices made for them. Parents choose how they want to
raise their children and where; all of which are factors that decide who each person is and who they
become. The factors that cause for differences in individuals vary, each person is introduced to
distinctive experiences that are unique to that person and allow for that individual to develop into a
unique identity. Ernest Hemingway s Indian Camp is about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However these expectations differ for age groups, race, and social order; and being a people eager to
fit in and be accepted, everyone is coerced into following the norms and expectations set for them.
Andrew Sullivan in his article , I Used to Be a Human Being discusses the loss of a true identity to the
new expectations of a developing generation. The people of each generation allow themselves to be
changed and formed into the ideals of their society. Andrew Sullivan talks about how each person of
this new generation is expected to interact with each other in a fashion so far removed from the past
that these new pressures are only relevant to the youth of the society. Having been born twenty years
earlier saved people from the pressures put on these individuals, seeing as the pressures were created
after the identities of the people were created. The pressures for each generation are different than the
generation that came before them, and with the new pressures and expectations come a new type of
people, people who value different things and act in different manners. As new groups of individuals
arise the new expectations expectations, for how each person should act, rise with them. These people
will then raise their children who will grow up alongside an entirely different set of norms than their
parents had, bringing again a new type of people into society. Anna Garvey in her article, The Oregon
Trail Generation: Life Before and After Mainstream Tech supports this idea. Having been part of a
generation in between new and old values, she got to see first hand how new environments create
different pressures and therefore cause individuals to conform and let themselves be changed by what
these new expectations call for. As an environment changes, the way in which individuals interact with
each other changes as well. The environment that a person is in

Character Analysis Of Eddie s Clothing Choice
Eddie s clothing choice had changed very little when she stopped down at my office building. I asked
her more than once that she didn t have to wait outside. She told me not to give it another thought, but
I could tell something was bothering her. The next day I waited in the shadows out of sight of
everyone in the large atrium of my building and walked out and placed my hand on the shoulder of the
head of my security and asked him who in the hell told him that Eddie wasn t allowed into my
building? I made a call into my little brother and he explains that it was all a misunderstanding. The
head of security was sent to another one of my buildings instead of being kicked out of a job all
because of Eddie. One of my favorite restaurants somehow had changed their dress code, but I asked
to speak with the owner and he was surprised that anyone would prevent me from dinning in his
establishment. This was especially true when he spoke strongly to his people that I was the silent
partner who kept him in business when the bank wanted to foreclose on him. Not only did I payoff the
deed, I had also brought the entire building. Of course my little brother said apologetically that he had
just made a comment he had overheard said from someone else and had no idea the people who
worked in that restaurant overheard his conversation. Him saying that I should never eat at a place that
had people who had no propriety of keeping their customers conversation private. When I met

South Beach Diet Fanatics
Experts say many people are dieting because of the government s recent warnings about the U.S.
obesity epidemic. About 64 percent of Americans are overweight or obese. Yet helping people control
their weight is a tricky issue. quot;It s a balancing act, because on the one hand, clearly we have
concerns that more and more teenagers are becoming obese, quot; said David Sarwer, associate
professor of psychology and director of education at the Weight and Eating Disorders Program at the
University of Pennsylvania. quot;On the other hand, we don t want teenagers to be so restrictive with

Trying to lose weight and become healthy by depriving the body of food makes no sense. In addition
to the three meals each day, the dieter will also eat a snack between breakfast and lunch, and then
again between lunch and dinner. Even if the dieter does not feel like eating these snacks, for the South
Beach Diet to work, he/she needs to, and after dinner, the dieter will even have dessert. Additionally,
during this phase, the dieter can drink all the coffee and tea you want and be sure to drink lots of
water. (southbeach diet plan.com). There are three basic phases present in the SB Diet. In phase one,
you eat normal portion sizes but all carbohydrates are restricted. Phase one last two weeks and is the
strictest phase and the hardest to endure in the diet. It emphasizes lean meats, such as chicken, turkey,
fish, and shellfish. Low Glycemic index vegetables are allowed as well as low fat cheese, nuts, and
eggs. Dieters should expect to lose somewhere between eight to thirteen pounds in the two week
frame. In phase two, some of the banned food are slowly introduced while weight loss continue to
around one to two pounds per week. The SB diet participant should remain in phase two until you
have lost your desired amount of weight. Phase three is for maintenance and should be followed for
life. This phase is all about maintaining your desired weight with a healthy balanced diet. Should the
dieters weight begin to climb, simply return to Phase one

Important Symbols in Lord of the Flies by William Golding
In William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies, he uses unique elements to symbolize many concepts
throughout the story. The two most important but differing symbols used throughout the novel are the
Conch and Sow s head symbolically used by the author to demonstrate the transition of good to evil as
the darkness of savagery slowly begins to powerfully overtake the boys mental concept of their
civilian nature that they were born into. Both symbolically represent a certain importance and power
to the boys as they fight to maintain order and civility on the island while trying to contain control
over the group of young boys as they begin to abandon all ties to their once civilized life and mindset
that they once knew. Isolation and daily struggles to survive on the island lead to the transition to
killing and becoming more barbaric. The taste of killing and power becomes an overpowering
obsession that the boys cannot consciously control.
Lord of the Flies is a novel using different elements to show symbolism of different people in society
and their reactions when cut off from the world and left to survive on their own. The conch and sow s
head are used as power over the group of boys.
Jack Uses the conch to try and keep everyone working together, while Jack uses the sow s head to
threaten and show that meat and killing is the only importance in staying alive. Both boys have two
different concepts and mental thinking of how things should be run on the island. Jack and Ralph s

Whiskey Rebellion Essay
In a time when the British won a war against the Native Americans and the French, to the first
political parties, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans, there were rebellions. It is in this context
that changes can be found between the March of the Paxton Boys, Shays Rebellion, and the Whiskey
Rebellion. Violent protest in America from 1763 to 1791 changed significantly in terms of reasons
behind the desire for violent protest and the result that occurred because of the rebellion. Admittedly,
one significant continuity was the continued rebellion of the common people against the elite. In all
three rebellions, the people who were rebelling were the poor and common people of the United
States, rebelling against something the wealthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nearly 500 farmers attacked the house of General John Neville who was a tax inspector.
Pennsylvanian Farmers also attacked tax collectors and other officials in order to avoid paying the tax
which was imposed by the United States government. The March of the Paxton Boys, Shays
Rebellion, and the Whiskey rebellion were all common people against the elite because each rebellion
had the poor angry with the government. The United States government, on the state and national
level, was run by the elite, such as the northern wealthy citizens and southern gentry. On the other
hand, one significant change was the reason behind the desire for the rebellions. After the attack on the
Conestoga people by the Paxton Boys, the Pennsylvania government put the remaining 16 Conestoga
Indians in protective custody, but the Paxton Boys broke in and killed 6 adults and 8 children. The
March of the Paxton Boys, as previously mentioned, occurred because of the group wanting the law to
help the farmers as well. The Paxton Boys, who were led by Reverend John Elder attacked the
Conestoga because of anger towards natives because of Pontiac s Rebellion. Pontiac s Rebellion was

Pros Of Constructing A Dog Park
There has been a lot of controversy regarding the idea of constructing a dog within the city.
Personally, i am against this park for three reasons. The first reason is that it would not be a good
financial commitment to make. The second reason is that it would bring about an unecessary amount
of legal liability. Lastly, i believe that it would be disturbing to many residents of the area.
The cost of installing this dog park would be astronimical. There would have to be adequate fencing
as well as other equipment installed in order to make it functionable; all of this causing the price to
rise higher and higher. I feel that this would be an unwise committment to make considering that there

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tax Havens
The central argument of this paper is that tax havens are not only mediums for tax avoidance and
evasion but belong more broadly to the world of finance. Viewed individually, tax havens may appear
small and insignificant; combined, they play a central role in the world economy, where liberalization
and deregulation of the financial sphere has caused an exponential growth of tax havens in the last 40
years. I would define tax havens as jurisdictions that have sufficient autonomy and most importantly a
deliberate interest to write their own tax, finance, and other laws and regulations. Their purpose is to
ease transactions undertaken by nonresidents who have the intention to avoid taxations and other
regulations in their home country by providing a legally backed veil of secrecy to make it hard to
determine the true owners. Tax havens do so with the active support of ... Show more content on

favorable jurisdictions because they often lack natural resources and hence depend on foreign

advantages of such small island economies. Yet, this paper also shows that tax haven do not have to be

How Is General Zaroff A Dynamic Character
In every story there is always a mysterious character that the author does not provide enough
information and background to the readers. This adds suspense to the story, adding more surprises and
eye opening astonishments. In the case of this short story The Most Dangerous Game, General Zaroff
is that character. He is preceded as the antagonist character that is uncivilized, cruel, and reckless.
General Zaroff plays the role of a dynamic and complex character that develops over the course of the
story. In the introductory of the character General Zaroff, one would assume that he is a civilized man
because of the fact that he is first presented as a well dressed wealthy man who lived on an island
which was owned by himself. Within General ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong. Why should I
not use my gift? (page 7). This proves that he views the world in a primitive fashion, believing that the
weak should suffer beneath the feet of the strong. He believes that the world is split into two. One
being greater than the other or one being more superior over the other. Due to the fact that General
Zaroff believes he is one of the strong, he assumes that he is obligated to exterminate the weak.
General Zaroff is convinced that killing humans is acceptable. He enjoys the thrill of killing humans
as he once did for tigers, hinting tigers ceased to interest me some years ago. I exhausted their
possibilities, you see. No thrill left in tigers, no real danger. I live for danger (page 5). Killing humans
instead of animals provides him pleasure and he does it for entertainment purposes because they can
reason, after a fashion (page 7). This reveals that General Zaroff does not have the same feelings
towards the values of life as others would. By that, one could assume that he does not have a clear

Abstract
This paper attempts to establish the factors that affect sustainable women education in Nigeria. The
paper found out that non participation of women in education programmes was as a result of some
limiting factors and proffers solutions to such.
Introduction
It is not that there are no studies or recommendations on how to resolve women s educational
problems; it is rather than the recommendation for the provision of women education have usually

Women play constructive, complimentary and fundamental roles in the society. The education of
woman in the formal education exposes her to available information that could aid them in responsible
behaviour for effective and efficient motherhood. Education confers undoubted benefits on the
individuals and the society especially when it is appropriate to the goals and aspirations of the society.
Based on the above, Nyerere (1970) stated that education should be designed to meet the economic
and developmental circumstances of a nation. It is in realisation of the above that women need to
participate in the socio economic development of any nation which is in consonant with the United
Nations advocacy which led to pronouncement of a decade for women (1975 1985).
According to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3010: XXVII, the decade was aimed at
addressing issues relating to the educational advancement of women with the over riding goals being
that of developing their potentials, contribute to and benefit from development (United Nations,
1985). The United Nations in a publication titled The
Nairobi Forward Looking: Strategies for the Advancement of Women , published in 1985 provided a
framework for renewal commitment by member states to the advancement of women in education

Heteronormativity In Walt Disney Films
This essay will identify and discuss heteronormativity and how it exists in our society. By making
reference to relevant sources such as Steyn van Zyl, the ideals of a heteronormative society will be
explored and how they have been shaped by our social and cultural context. A recently produced Walt
Disney film will be identified which portrays these standards of heteronormative gender structures. By
analysing the film and making reference to an independent source, the background and history of this
example will also be explored to determine if and why Disney films continually perpetuate
heteronormative discourses of gender using the media.

Heteronormative discourses which exist in society can be seen in examples involving media.
Advertisements, films and television all carry some form of heteronormative construct in their content
which is exposed to large audiences of men and woman of all ages. Such heteronormativity and
gender constructs perpetuated by the media will be explored using an example of a recently released
Walt Disney film called Frozen (Buck Lee 2013). As evident in many other films created by the
Disney franchise, the film s characters are made to depict a rich and exclusive heterosexual landscape
(Martin Kazyak 2009:332).
The film Frozen (Buck Lee 2013) follows a plot about a princess who goes on a journey with the help
of companions to find her estranged sister, whose magical powers that control ice and snow have
confined the kingdom in an eternal winter. Although majority of the film s storyline does not make
reference to heteronormative discourses, there are many scenes and songs performed in the film which
appear to perpetuate heterosexual and ideal gender constructs. This is portrayed both by the creation of
specific body images of the male and

John Dalton And His Atomic Theory
John Dalton did many things in his life. He was most known for his Atomic Theory, Law of Multiple
Proportions, Dalton s Law Partial Pressures, and Daltonism. He had a noble award for Royal Medals.
Deborah and Joseph Dalton gave birth to John Dalton on September 6, 1766 at Eaglesfield,
Cumberland, England. John was born into a Quaker family. His father was a weaver and his mother

Kendal as an assistant. After 4 years being an assistant he became a principal of the school until 1793.
In 1793, John moved to Manchester and became a Math and Philosophy tutor at New College. There
he joined the Manchester Literary and Philosophy Society . That granted him lab access which he
started writing daily logs about weather, wind velocity, and barometric pressure. When he first moved

Influence Of Dick Hebdige On The Role Of Culture
In the mid late 20th Century there was debate among intellectuals regarding the formative role of
culture as opposed to nature. At the time, Dick Hebdige, a cultural studies scholar, shifted his attention
to the study of subcultures. He believed that the subversive power of subcultures could be useful to
further understand misconceptions of natural, and supposedly immutable, aspects of society. In 1979,
he published his book Subculture: The Meaning of Style, exploring the subcultures styles as powerful
tools to resist the apparent natural culture imposed by the dominant culture. Inspired by Barthes, Levi
Strauss and Saussure, Hebdige argued that subcultures communicate to the social world through their
appearances and norms. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Social Suppliers: Exploring the Cultural Contours of the Performance and Image Enhancing Drug
(PIED) Market among Bodybuilders in the Netherlands and Belgium, a group of scholars explores the
reasons and motivations of individuals who comprise part of the bodybuilding subculture to get
involved with PIEDs (enhancing drugs). They find that the use of illicit drugs became the norm, not
the exception within the bodybuilding subculture: Within these bodybuilding communities a process
of cultural normalization (Pearson, 2001) has taken place regarding the use and supply of PIEDs (9.)
This means that bodybuilders desire to transform their body and to be outside of what has been
considered normal by society often goes beyond their biological capacity. The use of illicit enhancing
drugs thus become a vehicle for many members of this community to achieve their goals of massive
muscular gain. Thus, Voortman s argument that body modification comes from psychological desire to
create an identity and facilitate self expression is helpful for us to understand these motivations.

Examination of Clinical Psychology
Clinical psychology is a very important as well as popular part of the field of psychology that is used
very often. To begin, a definition of clinical psychology will be included. According to APA (2009)
Clinical psychology attempts to use the principles of psychology to better understand, predict, and
alleviate intellectual, emotional, biological, psychological, social, and behavioral aspects of human
functioning (Plante, 2011, p. 5). The following paper will first describe the history and evolving nature

Psychology will always be an increasingly popular area of study, and will always be used to help
people identify mental issues he or she may be facing. Today, psychology is one of the most popular
undergraduate major in most colleges and universities, and clinical psychology is the most popular
specialty area within psychology (Plante, 2011). This field will continue to grow in the future, as it has
in the past. For instance, Money magazine and other publications have listed clinical psychologists as
one of the hottest jobs one can have (Plante, 2011, APA, 2009). Psychology is such an interesting
field, and such a useful field, that it will be around until the end of time and will probably bring with it
more insight and answers to questions that have yet to be answered. The next item to be discussed is
the role of research and statistics in clinical psychology.
Research and Statistics in Clinical Psychology Research plays a major role in the field of clinical
psychology. According to Plante (2011) Research is at the foundation of all clinical psychology
activities (p. 10). Since there is a huge demand from the public for the applications of psychology to
everyday life, research is in high demand as well (Thorne, 2000). This research has been in demand

big role during this time. Many men would wear different colors including pink. Before the 1950 s
many teenagers would wear the same exact clothes as their parents did, in the 50 s we start to see
fashion including teenagers as their own fashion. Teenage girls would wear more colors, and tighter

A Brief Note On Mechanical Engineering And Engineering
When taking a look at the world today, it is concluded that it has now been taken over by engineers.
With new inventions being innovated day by day, the world has been improved magnificently with the
help of engineers. Although there is no way to specifically define someone as a leader, with all of the
new inventions that are created by engineers daily they can definitely be classified as leaders and
creators of todays world. In almost every corner of this earth, there is some sort of engineering
involved. Know as some of the smartest people in the world, they are what improve and make a
difference in our daily activities. Mechanical, civil, electrical, computer, and biomedical engineers are
only a few of the many that have and continue to change the world daily with their inventions.
Mechanical Engineers
Mechanical engineering is one of the types of engineering that can be found almost everywhere. For
example, automobiles, it is nearly impossible to stay away from them as they are found almost
everywhere. Mechanical engineers work on the structure, the designs and re designs of automobiles by
improving their functions to benefit and them suitable for everyone. Another form of inventions that
are fun for or everyone or at least some people are rollercoaster and rides. Rollercoaster are designed
by mechanical engineers, from top to bottom, they make sure that the structure of a certain
rollercoaster or any ride is properly engineered for the safety and entertainment of

My Personal Contributions To Our Society: Jim Henson For all my life I ve been a dreamer. As I grew
up in Mississippi I would often close my eyes and imagine all of the things that could make the world
a better place. When I think about all I ve done in my life I believe that it s helped the people that I

article many years ago. At the time I said, If our message is anything, it s a positive approach to life.
That life is basically good. People are basically good. For me these words are just as true today as they

Examples Of Banish Me From Apes
Banish me from Eden when you will;
But first let me eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge! Robert Ingersoll41
There are four ways in which humans differ from apes::
1. They have souls,
2. Their bodies are mostly free of hair,
3. Women suffer birth pangs, and
4. They speak.
Each of these changes is discussed in Genesis. The soul was provided by God near the end of the
Sixth Day. Upon their expulsion from Eden, Adam was to eat bread in the sweat of thy face . And Eve
was to bring forth children in sorrow .
Man is the only animal that sweats, or needs to. The great effort required to catch the food now
available to them caused men s bodies to overheat. Those with less hair ... Show more content on

But such a land is mentioned in the Bible, albeit cryptically. Theologians have dreamed up
metaphysical ideas to tell us that no such physical place actually existed; that it is just a punitive
spiritual condition. And preachers use those ideas as threats to sinners .
We shouldn t laugh at the Bible. And we shouldn t look for ego serving fantasies to explain away its
mysteries. We should very carefully read what it actually says, and search for outside clues to verify it,
and possibly fill in more details.
The Land of Nod features prominently in the Book of Enoch, and its inhabitants are called Nodites.
We find two men named Enoch in the Book of Genesis. Enoch1 was the son of Cain and the grandson
of Adam. Enoch2 was seventh in the line of patriarchs descended from Adam through Seth. He was
the only one of the patriarchs of whom it was said, he walked with God .
The meaning of this phrase is not clear. It may have indicated that he was the first to believe in only
one God, though his people would continue to be polytheistic for millennia to come. Or it may mean
that he was chosen to lead his branch of the people out of Africa into Asia, Archaeological data
suggests that event took place about two thirds of the way along the time line from Adam to

Billy Bully
In the play The play of Kes by Barry Hines, the main character, Billy, is persistently bullied. He is
belittled, discouraged and threatened. This has hurt him mentally and physically to the point of
depression. The people who primarily bully him are Jud, his half brother, and Mr. Gryce the principal.
Jud, who is Billy s older half brother, taunts and terrorizes him daily. Jud enjoys sending threats
towards Billy such as I ll murder you when I get home. which implies that Billy will get hurt later on
(physical abuse). Also, this will traumatize Billy and make him live for the rest of the day in fear,
anxiety and distress for what might happen to him. The word murder increases the intensity of what
Jud had said and shows that he resorts to physically abusing his brother. ... Show more content on

Gryce, the school principal. Mr. Gryce has a special disliking toward Billy and hurts him both
mentally and physically; for daydreaming, he shouts at Billy you ll be tired when I m finished with

point that Gryce will abuse Billy later on, overwhelming him with trauma and fear. In that time and
age, corporal punishment was considered ordinary. However, corporal punishment is only hitting the
leg, not belittling and verbally abusing children. For the second quote, some of the audience might
justify Gryce s actions as corporal punishment. The play wright has done this to show that even
teachers can be using the law for their evil actions. The word finished highlights the fact that Gryce
will continue to abuse him and that he isn t going to let him off so easily. Gryce might be using
corporal punishment as a pass to bully and punish students he despises. In contrast to the other
students that were there (three smokers, Mac Dowell), Billy had done nothing wrong or even worth

A Study on English Euphemism
A Study on English Euphemism
Euphemism is defined in Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English(1978)as¡°(an example of)the
use of a pleasanter£¬less direct name for something thought to be unpleasant.¡± The New Edition of
the Oxford Concise Dictionary (1976) defines euphemism as ¡°Substitution of mild or vague or
roundabout expression for harsh or direct one; expression that substituted.¡±
Euphemism is to use a polite or vague word or phrase used to replace another word or phrase that is
thought of as too direct or rude. The word euphemism comes from the Greek eu, good, and pheme,
speech or saying, and thus means literally to speak with good words or in a pleasant manner.
1. Characteristics of Euphemism
Euphemism£¬as a language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
¢ò.Why people use euphemisms Euphemism is a universal language phenomenon£¬and the reasons
for using euphemisms are complicated. There are two main reasons. They are psychological need and
social need. 2.1 psychological need
Psychologically people are in need of euphemisms. Generally speaking people desire to be
safe£¬happy£¬healthy and lucky. And at the same time£¬People fear something. They fear
disease£¬death£¬old age£¬poverty£¬and any sort of disability; they fear supernatural forces
that£¬they suppose£¬may come from religion and superstition; they fear all the other negative sides
of their life. These negative things£¬notions and events inevitably exist around them and form the
taboos in their life. People choose to avoid being contacted with them and even in language they try
not to mention them. When they have to be mentioned£¬People would resort to euphemisms instead
of them. Thus£¬People would Psychologically feel as if they were not mentioned. Using euphemisms
gives people a feeling that they are some distance to what they fear and resorting to euphemism seems
to be a guarantee of their safety happiness health and good luck.
2.2 social need
Besides the Psychological need¡¡there is a social need for people to use euphemisms. As we know that
in a culture there are certain notions or things strongly forbidden by social customs. Once they are
acknowledged by the society, a tacit convention to euphemize them is formed among all the

Peter Senge’s Five Disciplines
1.0 Introduction
Peter Senge was born in 1947, and he graduated in an engineering Stanford and then undertake a
Master in Social Systems modelling at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and after that he
completed his PhD on Management (Mark,2001). According to Peter Senge , learning organizations
are Organizations where people continuously expand their capacity to create the results they really
want , where expanded and new patterns of thinking are developed, where collective goal is set free,
and where people are continuously learning to see the whole together .
The basic needs for such organization is that in situations of continuous change only those are
adaptive, flexible and productive will succeed. In order for this to ... Show more content on

In order to impose shared vision, learning organization needs to have flat, decentralized organizational
structures. Shared vision is usually to succeed against rival organizations, but Senge states that there
should also be long term goals that are intrinsic within the company (Boydell,1999).
(e) Team Learning
Team learning is the accumulation of individual learning. The advantage of shared learning is that
employees grow more quickly and problem solving range is improved through better access to
expertise and knowledge. Team learning has features such as boundary crossing and openness which
helps organizations to make decisions in an efficient way. Team learning needs employees to engage
in discussion and dialogue thus team members must develop shared meaning, open communication
and shared understanding (Boydell,1999).

many differences. Both men are famous for their orchestral compositions and their future influence on

were from different musical time periods, they both made huge contributions to the world of music.
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany 1770; the second half of the classical period.

1819 is the year in which his hearing was thoroughly depleted. He could no longer play the piano
virtuously and had to communicate by text. As a result, he spent a majority of his time composing.
Beethoven would sketch out his compositions in a book. These books have been maintained and it is
evident that he would work on several pieces at once. During this time, his compositions ranged from
simple melodies to more elaborate and edited works. In 1804 Beethoven completed his Third
Symphony. This piece was originally a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte, but when Beethoven found that
Napoleon was proclaimed an emperor he deleted the dedication. At this point in his life, Beethoven
seriously considered marriage. His first love was for a woman named Giulietta Guicciardi. When this
relationship eventually broke, he sought the hand of Giulietta s cousin, Josephine. The bond between
them broke and the engagement was ended. Beethoven s final attempt with a woman was with his
doctor s daughter, Therese Malfatti. As is expected, this relationship also failed and Beethoven
reached the final part of his life as a bachelor. The rate and quality of his compositions slowed and he
became more and more isolated. Another depressing and negative event in Beethoven s life took place
in 1815. His brother died. Caspar Anton Carl left behind a son and a widow and instructed

Behold 2009 By Sheela Gowda
It is interesting to note that this study was conducted amongst 800 companies across Indians hiring the
top brains in the country. Yet, superstitious beliefs were still prevalent.
Sheela Gowda s work entitled, Behold 2009 was first shown at the 53rd Venice Biennale. In it, she
uses four thousand metres of rope hand woven from human hair. Hanging entangled within this black,
knotted mass are twenty steel car bumpers. It is a dig at a common superstition held by motorists in
India. Motorists there often ties woven hair to car bumpers as a talisman for their safety. In fact, it
would not be a surprise if these motorists actually place more belief in this talisman than the need for
regular servicing to their vehicles. For Gowda the piece communicates a coming together of fear,
superstition, belief and a need for comforting action in the framework of modern life (F).

Similar to the start of the first experiment, the citric acid is added to the distilled water in the
styrofoam cup and is allowed to begin dissolving for twenty seconds. It is important to add the citric
acid to the water and not the water to the citric acid as this creates a large amount of heat to be
released, causing the concentrated acid to boil violently and splash out of the container. The addition
of an acid in the solution, I predict, speed up the rate of the reaction, thus releasing heat more quickly.
The acid acts as a catalyst in the reaction.
Furthermore, it could be plausible from the previous conclusion, that a base could hinder or slow
down a chemical reaction.
The final experiment is the solution of hydrochloric acid with magnesium and recording the maximum
temperature it reaches. Each small experiment should be followed with a thorough cleaning of the
styrofoam cups, lids, stirrers, temperature probe, and other glassware. The completely reacted
solutions should be disposed of in the proper water area under the fume hood.

own set of moral and ethical values, as well as those that are required by the position they hold. The
tricky part can be to decide which set of values to follow in a situation where there may be a choice,
and if so, how does one go about making that choice. Do they possibly sacrifice their personal ethics
to follow those that are required by their position? Is it ok for them to bypass those standards of their

Hello Latasha, I hope everything is well with your son and I understand your lack of posting because I

you have done a great job switching between first and third person. I am still in love with the first
sentence because it really draws you into the story and makes the reader understand exactly how the
mood is feeling. It also shows the reader a glimpse into the setting and what kind of conditions this
place had. There were a couple of mechanical things I would like to point out to you that I feel can be
fixed easily with a good reread. The first thing I noticed was the story switches between past and
present tense; something I tend to do all the time and can easily be read over, but can be confusing for
some readers. The second thing I noticed was a bunch of run on sentences that created paragraphs;
what I mean is that it may look like a paragraph, but it s actually two very long sentences that can be
cut down into shorter sentences. The last mechanical thing I noticed was some punctuation and
grammar errors that can be spotted with a grammar website like Paperrater or Grammerly. I am #1
when it comes to screwing up grammar and punctuation so I use both of them to check my piece and
even then I still miss stuff. Usually at that point I hand it off to my sister. Have a family member,

Similarities Between Carry On And Harry Potter
Carry On is a fantasy novel written by Rainbow Rowell, one that mirrors the Harry Potter series,
written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter was born into the Wizarding World, and prophesied to be the
savior of the magical world. Harry attends Hogwarts, a boarding school for young witches and
wizards, and over his six years there, works up the power to defeat Lord Voldemort. Simon Snow, on
the other hand, was born a Normal. At age eleven, he was taken to Watford, the magical school in the
World of Mages. He is thought to be the Chosen One, and is trained to use his magic to defeat the
Humdrum. The two books are similar in more ways than one, but they also have their differences.
Some common elements are character types, themes, and the Chosen One archetype. Characters come
in many different shapes and sizes, not to mention their personalities and roles. Before getting very
far, one will notice the abundance of similarities between these two texts, including the element of
magic, the setting, and other small details. One thing that stands out are the common archetypes

friend. Ron Weasley and Penelope Bunce are alike in the sense that they are the best friend of the main
character, and could even be considered as the sidekicks. Both are at the hero s side when needed, and

A Room Of One s Own And Terry Eagleton Analysis
There are many different theories you can look for when reading literature. You have five of Terry
Eagleton s theories which are reader s response, feminism, psychological view, and historical, and
formalism. There is Nietzsche s theory where he believes everything is a metaphor, everything can be
interpreted differently by the reader. Emerson s theory is transidlism and existentialism. Transidlism is
when someone will accept that there are miracles in the world. Existentialism is when someone doesn
t believe there are miracles. The last theory is the chaos theory where everything is connected to
everything, one thing sets off a chain reaction, and the whole world is affected by it. You can see these
different theories in Virginia Woolf s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, this is how she thought the life for women would be like in the sixteenth century, any
women born with a talent would end up being laughed up, mocked and ending their lives like the
fictional character Judith. A highly gifted girl who had tried to use her gift for poetry would have been
so thwarted and hindered by other people, so tortured and pulled asunder by her own contrary
instincts, that she must have lost her health and sanity to a certainty (Woolf).
Finally you notice Emerson s theory of transidlism which is someone who believes in miracles. Woolf
believes that there can be miracles for women. For my belief is that if we live another century or so I
am taking of the common life which is the real life and not of the little separate lives which we live as
individuals and have five hundred a year each of us and rooms of our own; if we have the habit of
freedom and the courage to write exactly what we think; if we escape a little from the common sitting
room and see human beings not always in their relation to each other but in relation to reality; and the
sky, too, and the trees or whatever it may be in themselves; if we look past Milton s hogey, for no
human being should shut out the view; if we face the fact, for it is a fact, that there is no arm to cling
to, but that we go alone and that our relation is to the world of reality and not only to the world of men
and women, then the opportunity will come and the dead poet

Herpes Zoster and the Complications of Post-Herpetic...
Many people can remember to a time when they were a little kid and tiny little red bumps began to
form on different locations of their skin. The small bumps began to spread and began to itch.
Remembering the pink color of the calamine lotion that was used to soothe the itching sensation,
realizing that these bumps were chicken pox. It is common knowledge that once a person contracts
chicken pox and the outbreak clears up, the person will not get an outbreak again. Yet there are
unknown complications that may develop later in life from having the chicken pox. Herpes zoster
(Zoster), or commonly known as Shingles, is one of these complications. Not only is this a very
painful condition, but can lead to other complications as well. ... Show more content on

This entire process takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Shingles often clear up on its own
without any medical assistance or topical creams. Treatments for outbreaks that do not clear up on
their own; often include cold compresses, oral anti viral medications, and corticosteroid creams. A
person who has an outbreak of Shingles typically only has one to three outbreaks in their lifetime
(Mandell GL., et al, 2009). There have been, however, cases where the scabs disappear yet the pain
continues even after the rash is gone. In some cases, this pain associated with the herpes zoster virus
lasts for years. The continuous pain is called Post herpetic neuralgia (Nordqvist, C., 2009).
Post herpetic neuralgia is a severe pain along the route of a nerve. There have been five features
reported in case studies that is associated to the development of post herpetic neuralgia. These include
age, severity of pain at rash onset, severity of pain, extension of rash at first occurrence, female
gender, and ophthalmic location (Coen, P., et al, 2006). This pain is a result to a change in the
neurological structure and function of that particular nerve. This pain is considered to be non
nociceptive pain because it comes from within the nervous system itself. Nociceptive pain is the type
of pain a person would feel when they put their

An Evaluation Of An Effective Manager Is Responsible For...
A manager is responsible for the work of their people, inasmuch as a consistently underperforming
employee relies on the direction and feedback of an effective manager. Like it or not, the system of a
performance cycle was put into place to force a manager to give feedback to their employees. Every
year, managers have an opportunity to assess and then reassess their employee s performance, and
every year in kind, they fail to reach the mark. There are two things a manager does, or fails to do, that
contribute to the success and failure of a performance cycle: fail to give real time feedback and
midcourse correction when necessary and give honest feedback during the appraisal. By utilizing the
steps of the Critical Incident Method they can attempt to add value back into the system. Business
Dictionary online defines the critical incident method as, Situation analysis technique in which actions
or behavior of an employee (during, for example, a customer service event) is recorded and examined
to ascertain the actual requirements of a successful operation (BusinessDictionary.com). By
consistently doing these two things, recording and examining behavior, value can be added back into
the performance cycle.
Performance cycles, as the name implies, are annual reporting periods that have a beginning the plan,
a middle the midterm, and an end the appraisal. Every manager is aware of the cycle, knows what is
expected of them and yet they find themselves challenged when

Essay on A Storm of Emotion in Kate Chopin s The Storm
The Storm of Emotion
Usually a storm creeps upon us, hits a luminous climax, and then fades away into nothingness. In The
Storm, Kate Chopin develops a parallel between a rainstorm and an emotional storm in a woman s
life. Chopin uses symbolism to depict the feelings of relationships that are as unpredictable as that of a
raging storm.
In the time frame that this story is set, many major life decisions things are made taking into account
one s duty to family including the selection of a husband or wife. It is possible that each of these
couples may not have been in love, when their vows were stated. They have a duty to society; they
must not marry outside of their social class. They have a duty to their family; ... Show more content on

When Alcee rides up at the beginning of the storm Calixta gathers her husband s Sunday clothes in
order to remember her sense of duty and loyalty to her husband. Respecting social graces, Alcee tries
to stay outside, but the storm drives him into the house. Inside Calixta s home Alcee can see into her
dim and mysterious bedroom, this foreshadows the forbidden relationship that takes place.
As the storm intensifies so does the physical relationship between these twomarried people. The
incessant lightening is the nagging desire between this man and woman. As the storm begins to fade
and the thunder to growl from a distance, these two lovers are reminded of their forbidden love (668).
The glistening green of the world is the happiness of a fulfilled and closed relationship that allows life
to continue (668).
It is interesting how Ms. Chopin uses the thunderstorm to parallel with theintensity of the relationship
between Alcee and Calixta. Ms. Chopin creatively parallels the development of the thunderstorm to
that of the physical development between Calixta and Alcee. In the beginning, the rain slowly begins
to fall as the emotions between the two past loves are starting to rekindle. Then, as the storm proceeds
to intensify, Alcee is forced inside the house, alone with the woman of his desire. When the lightening

High Fructose Ry Sweeteners
Sugar it is that deliciously sweet white substance that we just can t seem to resist. It is a guilty
pleasure that is known by almost everyone to be unhealthy, but is sugar actually a chronic toxin? Is it
slowly killing us from the inside out? In recent years, more and more research seems to suggest so.
With the increasing epidemic of obesity and diabetes, scientists are looking for answers, and their
findings are quite disturbing. If sugar is a toxin, then people need to know because health and lives are
at stake and the sugar industry could fall apart. To answer the question about the toxicity of sugar, one
must be clear about what type of sugar is being discussed because there are many different types. This
essay will discuss high fructose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to L. Bell, studies show that the sugar fructose in high fructose corn syrup messes up the
appetite controls, causing a person to not realize that they are full even though they ate the energy
dense fructose (L. Bell, 2013). This overeating can lead to weight gain, which can in turn lead to other
serious health problems. According to a study published in the International Journal of Obesity (2013)
High SSB [fructose rich sugar sweetened beverages] consumption has a notable effect on increased
levels of BMI [body mass index] and SUA [serum uric acid] (W.T. Lin, H.L. Huang, M.C. Huang, T.F.
Chan, S.Y. Ciou, C.Y. Lee, Y.W. Ciou, T.H. Duh, P.L. Lin, T.N. Wang, T.Y. Liu, and C.H. Lee, 2013, p.
532). In other words, the consumption of beverages sweetened with high fructose corn syrup
significantly increases levels of body mass index and the production of uric acid. Uric acid is harmful
because it can lead to kidney disease and gout, the painful inflammation of the joints because of all of
the extra uric acid circulating in the blood. Another concern about fructose is how it effects the liver.
Every cell in the body can use glucose to make energy, but only the liver can break down fructose.
When fructose is eaten, it must pass through the liver to be broken down. According to R. Lustig, once
it gets to the mitochondria, the power plant of the cell,

Burke s Nakedness Of Adam And Eve
Burke identifies a norm of a naked expulsion of Adam and Eve beginning by 1500, which contradicts
the biblical account God made coats of skins and clothed them before forced to leave the Garden of
Eden. According to Burke, until about the early 15th century, all Italian iconography of Adam and Eve
expulsions were fully clothed or with covered genitalia. Afterwards, Adam and Eve were shown to be
fully naked post expulsion from the Garden as seen in Masaccio s infamous Expulsion from Paradise
(1423). Burke s ultimate observation on Adam and Eve s portrayal of nakedness after being expelled
from Eden is that it serves a purpose beyond the fall of man. An array of various classical texts,
Vitruvius On Architecture (c. 15th), Diodorus Library of History (Latin: 1450) and Lucretius s De
Rerum Natura (Bracciolini: 1417) which described early human development as naked, wretched and
animalistic supports an argument for symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Man s nakedness (i.e. Adam and Eve) symbolically represents his essential state (On Literary Polish
1462), the ability to rise and fall (Oration of the Dignity of Mankind 1486), to create civilization (On
Discovery 1499), to rise from bestial conditions, the potential to be clothed, to create dwellings, to
craft (Book of Craftsman 1400), to be the first achiever in the entire course of human history.
According to Burke, it serves a functional purpose to portray such nakedness, since it visually
identifies the couple Adam and Eve from other historical figures in the cycles of uomini famosi during
the Quattrocento as well as speaks to the continual potential of man to clothe himself, naturally
leading to other human

Theories Of Domestic Violence A therapist can help victims cope with their situation and work through the challenging emotions they may have The number one reason domestic violence victims stay or return to an abusive relationship is that they do not have access to financial resources to break free. Domestic violence results in high turnover and absence at work, extended sick leaves, and losses of productivity (Jones 12). Financial abuse is a method of controlling the victim. The abusers use isolating tactics, such as preventing them from working, accessing bank accounts, credit cards, and forms of transportation so that the victim is totally dependent on the abuser compromising their financial liberties. An identity is the set of characteristics and the state of being that defines a person and makes them unique. No one decides for themselves what they value; from birth everyone has choices made for them. Parents choose how they want to raise their children and where; all of which are factors that decide who each person is and who they become. The factors that cause for differences in individuals vary, each person is introduced to distinctive experiences that are unique to that person and allow for that individual to develop into a unique identity. However these expectations differ for age groups, race, and social order; and being a people eager to fit in and be accepted, everyone is coerced into following the norms and expectations set for them. Andrew Sullivan in his article , I Used to Be a Human Being discusses the loss of a true identity to the new expectations of a developing generation. The people of each generation allow themselves to be changed and formed into the ideals of their society. Andrew Sullivan talks about how each person of this new generation is expected to interact with each other in a fashion so far removed from the past that these new pressures are only relevant to the youth of the society. Having been born twenty years earlier saved people from the pressures put on these individuals, seeing as the pressures were created after the identities of the people were created. The pressures for each generation are different than the generation that came before them, and with the new pressures and expectations come a new type of people, people who value different things and act in different manners. As new groups of individuals arise the new expectations expectations, for how each person should act, rise with them. These people will then raise their children who will grow up alongside an entirely different set of norms than their parents had, bringing again a new type of people into society. Anna Garvey in her article, The Oregon Trail Generation: Life Before and After Mainstream Tech supports this idea. Having been part of a generation in between new and old values, she got to see first hand how new environments create different pressures and therefore cause individuals to conform and let themselves be changed by what these new expectations call for. As an environment changes, the way in which individuals interact with each other changes as well. The environment that a person is in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Important Symbols in Lord of the Flies by William Golding In William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies, he uses unique elements to symbolize many concepts throughout the story. The two most important but differing symbols used throughout the novel are the Conch and Sow s head symbolically used by the author to demonstrate the transition of good to evil as the darkness of savagery slowly begins to powerfully overtake the boys mental concept of their civilian nature that they were born into. Both symbolically represent a certain importance and power to the boys as they fight to maintain order and civility on the island while trying to contain control over the group of young boys as they begin to abandon all ties to their once civilized life and mindset that they once knew. Isolation and daily struggles to survive on the island lead to the transition to killing and becoming more barbaric. The taste of killing and power becomes an overpowering obsession that the boys cannot consciously control. Lord of the Flies is a novel using different elements to show symbolism of different people in society and their reactions when cut off from the world and left to survive on their own. The conch and sow s head are used as power over the group of boys. Whiskey Rebellion Essay In a time when the British won a war against the Native Americans and the French, to the first political parties, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans, there were rebellions. It is in this context that changes can be found between the March of the Paxton Boys, Shays Rebellion, and the Whiskey Rebellion. Violent protest in America from 1763 to 1791 changed significantly in terms of reasons behind the desire for violent protest and the result that occurred because of the rebellion. Admittedly, one significant continuity was the continued rebellion of the common people against the elite. The United States government, on the state and national level, was run by the elite, such as the northern wealthy citizens and southern gentry. On the other hand, one significant change was the reason behind the desire for the rebellions. After the attack on the Conestoga people by the Paxton Boys, the Pennsylvania government put the remaining 16 Conestoga Indians in protective custody, but the Paxton Boys broke in and killed 6 adults and 8 children. The March of the Paxton Boys, as previously mentioned, occurred because of the group wanting the law to help the farmers as well. At the time, Dick Hebdige, a cultural studies scholar, shifted his attention to the study of subcultures. He believed that the subversive power of subcultures could be useful to further understand misconceptions of natural, and supposedly immutable, aspects of society. In 1979, he published his book Subculture: The Meaning of Style, exploring the subcultures styles as powerful tools to resist the apparent natural culture imposed by the dominant culture. • 42. A Room Of One s Own And Terry Eagleton Analysis There are many different theories you can look for when reading literature. You have five of Terry Eagleton s theories which are reader s response, feminism, psychological view, and historical, and formalism. There is Nietzsche s theory where he believes everything is a metaphor, everything can be interpreted differently by the reader. Emerson s theory is transidlism and existentialism. Transidlism is when someone will accept that there are miracles in the world. Existentialism is when someone doesn t believe there are miracles. The last theory is the chaos theory where everything is connected to everything, one thing sets off a chain reaction, and the whole world is affected by it. You can see these different theories in Virginia Woolf s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, this is how she thought the life for women would be like in the sixteenth century, any women born with a talent would end up being laughed up, mocked and ending their lives like the fictional character Judith. A highly gifted girl who had tried to use her gift for poetry would have been so thwarted and hindered by other people, so tortured and pulled asunder by her own contrary instincts, that she must have lost her health and sanity to a certainty (Woolf). Finally you notice Emerson s theory of transidlism which is someone who believes in miracles. Woolf believes that there can be miracles for women. For my belief is that if we live another century or so I am taking of the common life which is the real life and not of the little separate lives which we live as individuals and have five hundred a year each of us and rooms of our own; if we have the habit of freedom and the courage to write exactly what we think; if we escape a little from the common sitting room and see human beings not always in their relation to each other but in relation to reality; and the sky, too, and the trees or whatever it may be in themselves; if we look past Milton s hogey, for no human being should shut out the view; if we face the fact, for it is a fact, that there is no arm to cling to, but that we go alone and that our relation is to the world of reality and not only to the world of men and women, then the opportunity will come and the dead poet ... • 43. Herpes Zoster and the Complications of Post-Herpetic... Many people can remember to a time when they were a little kid and tiny little red bumps began to form on different locations of their skin. The small bumps began to spread and began to itch. Remembering the pink color of the calamine lotion that was used to soothe the itching sensation, realizing that these bumps were chicken pox. It is common knowledge that once a person contracts chicken pox and the outbreak clears up, the person will not get an outbreak again. Shingles often clear up on its own without any medical assistance or topical creams. Treatments for outbreaks that do not clear up on their own; often include cold compresses, oral anti viral medications, and corticosteroid creams. A person who has an outbreak of Shingles typically only has one to three outbreaks in their lifetime (Mandell GL., et al, 2009). There have been, however, cases where the scabs disappear yet the pain continues even after the rash is gone. In some cases, this pain associated with the herpes zoster virus lasts for years. The continuous pain is called Post herpetic neuralgia (Nordqvist, C., 2009). Post herpetic neuralgia is a severe pain along the route of a nerve. • 44. An Evaluation Of An Effective Manager Is Responsible For... A manager is responsible for the work of their people, inasmuch as a consistently underperforming employee relies on the direction and feedback of an effective manager. Like it or not, the system of a performance cycle was put into place to force a manager to give feedback to their employees. Every year, managers have an opportunity to assess and then reassess their employee s performance, and every year in kind, they fail to reach the mark. There are two things a manager does, or fails to do, that contribute to the success and failure of a performance cycle: fail to give real time feedback and midcourse correction when necessary and give honest feedback during the appraisal. By utilizing the steps of the Critical Incident Method they can attempt to add value back into the system. Business Dictionary online defines the critical incident method as, Situation analysis technique in which actions or behavior of an employee (during, for example, a customer service event) is recorded and examined to ascertain the actual requirements of a successful operation (BusinessDictionary.com). By consistently doing these two things, recording and examining behavior, value can be added back into the performance cycle. Performance cycles, as the name implies, are annual reporting periods that have a beginning the plan, a middle the midterm, and an end the appraisal. Every manager is aware of the cycle, knows what is expected of them and yet they find themselves challenged when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Essay on A Storm of Emotion in Kate Chopin s The Storm The Storm of Emotion Usually a storm creeps upon us, hits a luminous climax, and then fades away into nothingness. In The Storm, Kate Chopin develops a parallel between a rainstorm and an emotional storm in a woman s life. Chopin uses symbolism to depict the feelings of relationships that are as unpredictable as that of a raging storm. In the time frame that this story is set, many major life decisions things are made taking into account one s duty to family including the selection of a husband or wife. It is possible that each of these couples may not have been in love, when their vows were stated. They have a duty to society; they must not marry outside of their social class. When Alcee rides up at the beginning of the storm Calixta gathers her husband s Sunday clothes in order to remember her sense of duty and loyalty to her husband. Respecting social graces, Alcee tries to stay outside, but the storm drives him into the house. Inside Calixta s home Alcee can see into her dim and mysterious bedroom, this foreshadows the forbidden relationship that takes place. As the storm intensifies so does the physical relationship between these twomarried people. The incessant lightening is the nagging desire between this man and woman. As the storm begins to fade and the thunder to growl from a distance, these two lovers are reminded of their forbidden love (668). The glistening green of the world is the happiness of a fulfilled and closed relationship that allows life to continue (668). It is interesting how Ms. Chopin uses the thunderstorm to parallel with theintensity of the relationship between Alcee and Calixta. Ms. Chopin creatively parallels the development of the thunderstorm to that of the physical development between Calixta and Alcee. In the beginning, the rain slowly begins to fall as the emotions between the two past loves are starting to rekindle. Then, as the storm proceeds to intensify, Alcee is forced inside the house, alone with the woman of his desire. When the lightening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. High Fructose Ry Sweeteners Sugar it is that deliciously sweet white substance that we just can t seem to resist. It is a guilty pleasure that is known by almost everyone to be unhealthy, but is sugar actually a chronic toxin? Is it slowly killing us from the inside out? In recent years, more and more research seems to suggest so. With the increasing epidemic of obesity and diabetes, scientists are looking for answers, and their findings are quite disturbing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to L. Bell, studies show that the sugar fructose in high fructose corn syrup messes up the appetite controls, causing a person to not realize that they are full even though they ate the energy dense fructose (L. Bell, 2013). This overeating can lead to weight gain, which can in turn lead to other serious health problems. According to a study published in the International Journal of Obesity (2013) High SSB [fructose rich sugar sweetened beverages] consumption has a notable effect on increased levels of BMI [body mass index] and SUA [serum uric acid] (W.T. Lin, H.L. Huang, M.C. Huang, T.F. Chan, S.Y. Ciou, C.Y. Lee, Y.W. Ciou, T.H. Duh, P.L. Lin, T.N. Wang, T.Y. Liu, and C.H. Lee, 2013, p. 532). In other words, the consumption of beverages sweetened with high fructose corn syrup significantly increases levels of body mass index and the production of uric acid. Uric acid is harmful because it can lead to kidney disease and gout, the painful inflammation of the joints because of all of the extra uric acid circulating in the blood. Another concern about fructose is how it effects the liver. Every cell in the body can use glucose to make energy, but only the liver can break down fructose. When fructose is eaten, it must pass through the liver to be broken down. According to R. Lustig, once it gets to the mitochondria, the power plant of the cell, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Burke s Nakedness Of Adam And Eve Burke identifies a norm of a naked expulsion of Adam and Eve beginning by 1500, which contradicts the biblical account God made coats of skins and clothed them before forced to leave the Garden of Eden. According to Burke, until about the early 15th century, all Italian iconography of Adam and Eve expulsions were fully clothed or with covered genitalia. Afterwards, Adam and Eve were shown to be fully naked post expulsion from the Garden as seen in Masaccio s infamous Expulsion from Paradise (1423). Burke s ultimate observation on Adam and Eve s portrayal of nakedness after being expelled from Eden is that it serves a purpose beyond the fall of man. An array of various classical texts, Vitruvius On Architecture (c. 15th), Diodorus Library of History (Latin: 1450) and Lucretius s De Rerum Natura (Bracciolini: 1417) which described early human development as naked, wretched and animalistic supports an argument for symbolic ... Man s nakedness (i.e. Adam and Eve) symbolically represents his essential state (On Literary Polish 1462), the ability to rise and fall (Oration of the Dignity of Mankind 1486), to create civilization (On Discovery 1499), to rise from bestial conditions, the potential to be clothed, to create dwellings, to craft (Book of Craftsman 1400), to be the first achiever in the entire course of human history. According to Burke, it serves a functional purpose to portray such nakedness, since it visually identifies the couple Adam and Eve from other historical figures in the cycles of uomini famosi during the Quattrocento as well as speaks to the continual potential of man to clothe himself, naturally leading to other human ...
