Internet Addiction ( Pathological Internet Use ) Essay
Internet Addiction ( Pathological Internet Use ) The Internet has become one of the most universal
methods for communication with over 100 million users worldwide. From e mail to the possibly
billions of web pages, there is an infinite amount of information flowing. And another enticing
aspect of the Internet, is the opportunity to interact with other people. Chat Rooms and MUD (Multi
User Dimensional) games offer the person the ability to talk and mingle with others online. But with
this newfound freedom, also comes the possibility of abuse and addiction.
Internet addiction, also known as Pathological Internet use, has emerged as a very destructive
force in today s society. David Greenfield believes an estimated 6 ... Show more content on

But also suffering withdrawal symptoms, not being able to limit time online, constantly thinking

There are about 3 distinct situations in which internet addiction can take form although they all

these separate cases. One way a person becomes addicted to the net is through online games. It
is a fantasy world where the player takes on the name of a character and they battle other on line

The Heroes Of Ancient Greek Myths
Two Brilliant Heroes in Ancient Greek Myths Who has not heard of heroes in Greek mythology?
They are the role models, inspirations, and protagonists in myths. In ancient times, after a long
work day, the members of the community have little to no energy remaining, but utilize what
strength they have left in a magnificent manner. The citizens meet up, and entertain themselves
with myths regarding heroes, monsters, gods and goddesses. However, the most popular myths
revolved around heroes, and their adventures. In the majority of myths, heroes participate in
impossible adventures, and miraculously, came back with more confidence than they had when
they set out. The heroes in these myths are the ones that everyone loves and appreciates. Two
examples of famous heroes are Hercules and Achilles. They are two well known heroes that play
active roles in myths, and teach valuable life lessons. The two myths and the role of the heroes in
them that are analyzed here are two fan favourites: the myth of Hercules and Athena, and the myth
of Achilles and the
Trojan War. Hercules s adventure begins as soon as he is born. The fact that he is a product of
Zeus and a mortal enrages Hera, Zeus s wife, and Hercules suffers. As a result of this, Hera sends
two snakes to kill him in his crib. The infant Hercules is unusually strong and strangles the snakes
before they can assassinate him. As one can see from is, he is the most superior of all mortals, and
stronger than

Essay on Kane, Gatsby, And The American Dream
The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Citizen Kane a movie directed by Orson
Welles are both monumental stories in American society as they both represent the American
dream at it s most brilliant high. The Great Gatsby is all about time and the American dream; it
is essentially what consumes Gatsby. Both Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American
dream, and as we read into their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined
that it is hard to see them apart. Other key factors play into this such as the failed pursuit of love
and being in a sea of admirers and feeling like you are the only person there. Jay Gatsbyreinvents
himself at the ripe young age of seventeen; this is when he officially... Show more content on

Unlike Gatsby however, Kane would like to relive his childhood, something Gatsby destroyed.
Kane s last utterance, rosebud is a large standing testament to his want to return to childhood.
Throughout the movie we see him as a large, powerful figure that is newsworthy for scandals
and successes among other things. We realize though that the things that made him who he was,
were not the things that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and
although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. And the last word,
rosebud is certainly an argument to that because it is the last thing we understand of him, and it
is essentially him being at his most venerable and most alone time. When he leaves his family he
is embarking on a lonely trail, Thatcher is a money obsessed business mogul and therefore does
not develop Kane or even try to create a solid relationship with him, which sets Kane up for a
lifestyle of loneliness. This loneliness extends into his business deals as he takes the world by
storm. Scandal suppresses both Kane and Gatsby, Gatsby loses his life because of it and Kane
loses an election that he had in the

Langston Hughes Obstacles
Despite the childhood and early life that Langston Hughes faced, he became one of the world s
greatest authors, poets, activists, and Harlem Renaissance leaders. His works reached such a
prestige as to give him awards from institutions such as the NAACP for African American
Achievements and a doctorate from Howard university. Facing oppression and problems as an early
child, Langston Hugheswas born into world that was unlikely to set him on the bright path he
created for his life. He began his life on a unique path as he was multi racial being composed of
African American, Native American, and French. Born in 1902 in Joplin, Missouri, Hughes had a

experienced extreme poverty and cried out through the form of the Harlem Renaissance. At this
time, the Harlem Renaissance was providing global influence and had spread across the world no
longer through just literature but music, storytelling, and art. The global spotlight in the city of
Harlem allowed Hughes to gain a following and expand his audience across the United States and
the globe. The poem Mother to Son was not widely read and popular when it was first published,
but the poem was added to Langston Hughes book The Weary Blues which was published in 1926

A Non Indigenous Social Worker
I really enjoyed this week s readings as I was able to gain a better understand of topics that I
have never discussed before. As a non Indigenous social worker, it is necessary to understand the
aboriginal people s history and the impacts faced from the residential school era. According to
Walmsley (2009) although the last residential school closed in 1996, their influence is omnipresent
in Indigenous communities today (p. 98). This really struck out to me, not much has been done to
address all of the issues. I had no previous knowledge of the discriminatory provisions of the liquor
policies. These readings really helped in furthering my understandings of impaired health. My
volunteer experiences involved working with aboriginal women... Show more content on

By being honest in saying, I am sorry, I do not understand this or could you please tell more
about this can really help in building trust worthy relationships. Like Walmsley (2009) said one
way to optimize learning is to choose a cultural guide, someone who is respected by all,
knowledgeable about the community and with whom a non Indigenous social worker can
develop an open trusting relationship (p. 104). This could be a band social worker, band
councillor, or Elder. They are able to provide more insight and knowledge then what I would
generally expect to gain from academics. Just as it is important to understand other cultures, it
is as important to know my own culture. It helps in understanding why I believe the things I do
and recognize the concepts that have shaped my own thinking. In a sense, these are my feelings
and thoughts about how I was raised or the things I liked or didn t like about parenting. These
values are based on my own experiences of what I believe is effective childcare and ways in
which children should be taught, guided, supported and disciplined (Walmsley, 2009, p. 104).
For instance, I relate this to something we discussed in class about hitting your child. I have
been slapped as a child; it was a form of discipline at times which I think is justifiable (like the
times I would refuse to not take medication which was going to help me feel better). Hence, as a

Is Global Warming Going To Be Very Harmful To The Earth
Is Global Warming going to be very harmful to the Earth in the future?
Outline
I. Window 1: Can global warming be stopped
A. Temperatures have ascended
1. Temperatures on earth have risen approximately 1.4В°F since the early 20th century (Global
Warming)
a. According to that study, the increasing of the atmospheric climateover time is a direct result of
human activities that cause significant and harmful climate changes including. Therefore in this
manner numerous countries confront that immediate international action has to be performed to

late to prevent global warming to keep developing and getting worse. She s showing the impact that
global warming is having on one of the Antarctic ice shelves overtime and what is its aspect today.
II. Are humans responsible of global warming?
Some people think that global warming has been caused because of human activities.
The rise in atmospheric CO2 over the last century was clearly caused by human activity, as it
occurred at a rate much faster than natural climate changes could produce. Over the past 650,000
years, atmospheric CO2 levels did not rise above 300 ppm until the mid 20th century
(Climatechange.procon.org )
According to that atmospheric levels record, the rising of the atmospheric CO2 levels has been
caused by the human activities and if human activities didn t happen, the changes that natural
climate could produce would have happened way slower so that means less damage to the globe
since the changes would have occurred at a speed that the climate is designed to.
2. Of greater concern to scientists is how the collapse of ice

The Importance Of Poetry In Literature
Danish Faruqi
Sometimes you come to hate things not because of what they are, but because of what meant to
you. They haven t done anything particularly done anything to you directly. But them being in your
presence doesn t help. I don t hate a lot of things, and in literature, that list is even smaller.
Through my experiences in 12th grade, I realized my new found hatred for confessional poetry and
its effects. Due to my experiences, I don t appreciate or rather take notice to literature that might be
very interesting.
For our Highschool, 12th grade was an interesting year, especially since this was the first year that
an inter school debate talks would take place. Something that was sponsored by the chancellor and
the mayor. Before we even knew about this competition, our class was chosen. When we got to
know about this, the class and the teacher didn t share the same enthusiasm, to say the least. We
were reluctant to participate in anything that put us in front of cameras or other people. But the
teacher was startled and proud that one of her classes was chosen to participate. And thus, the race
to compete was on.
Since the debate talks were on Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own, it required us to
understand her style of writing Stream of Consciousness. From there on, our part was to understand
a book which has multiple meanings and multiple perspectives. To make things easier, our teacher
chose to use confessional poetry as a method to uplift only

The Independence Movement In Venezuela
The new world was being tortured since it was discovered by the Spaniards. They only had two
main options, which were to keep suffering under the Spanish government or to make themselves
independents. They acknowledged they were a new race mixed by Indians and Europeans. They
were Americans now. Moreover, they knew they obtained rights from Europe, so they wanted to use
those rights to defend themselves against the attackers.
The independence movement started in 1811 when Venezuela made the decision of separating
itself from the Spanish Crown. This determination led to the desire of continue settling free other
nations in the America such as Colombia, PerГє, PanamГЎ, etc. The main argument was to find out

Case Study Of Bradley s American Legion
Church and Community The Bradley community turned to both Robert and Bessie for leadership
in numerous organizations. Fortunately, their core values included a commitment to civic service.
Enthusiastically involved in the founding of Bradley s American Legion Post 108, Robert
became its charter president. Although too ill to attend the Bradley American Legion Auxiliary s
organizational meeting, the members, in spite of her absence, elected Bessie president of the
women s association. After the meeting, two members visited the Brown residence and informed
Bessie of her high office. She told them, I m too sick to argue and say no. Throughout their lives,
Robert and Bessie remained active in the Bradley Legion and frequently filled leadership roles
while engaged in Legion activities. Robert Brown and his family observed Decoration Day, an
important holiday for the American Legion, with solemn reverence. The day started at dawn when
Robert headed out to the cemetery, typically, with a couple of his children who assisted their father

Women’s Reproductive Rights Are In Danger Essay
The battle for women s reproductive rights is similar to the struggle for African Americans to
have the full liberty of speech in public and private as Dredd Scott found out in 1865 when he
petitioned for his personal freedom from slavery and lost. Moreover women s reproductive rights
are akin to defending the rights of racial equality, civil rights, desegregation, same sex marriage, and
universal human rights. Every individual should have the right to choose how to live his or her
private life in today s society without governmental interference or control.

Social stereotypes and happiness
The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family
who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie
takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris
Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support
his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in
the story wonders on how to be happy? He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show

In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife,
he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do.
Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend
most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like
Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life
with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott
Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting
has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and
Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to
afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of
their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are
many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together.
Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks
did mom leave because of me? (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great
job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home

Sexism In The Workplace Essay
Some people say that sexism no longer exists in the workplace, yet only 19% of women are in a
presidential or chief position at work(Bomey ). Women are less likely to be hired for a job despite
having all the qualifications, women earn less than men, and women are continuously harassed in
the workplace. Despite the fact that women are capable to perform with the same skill and success
as men, the issue of genderdiscrimination still continues to rise( ). In society, sometimes it can be
difficult to recognize issues of sexismnot only at work but in life. With the failure to realize gender
discrimination and harassment in the world, educating people on the issue of sexism can make the
workplace a success.
A majority of women aspire to obtain a higher position in their work force, but achieving that role
can be difficult. Some people believe that the reason there is more male leaders than females is
because women are not intelligent enough to uphold high thinking jobs. However, according to a
reliable source, women now actually surpass men in educational achievement ( Gender inequality
and women iin the workplace ). The issue is not of intelligence, but more of gender inequality since

Kitagawa Utamaro And Paul Gauguin s Use Of Color Techniques
Describe specifically what the term arbitrary color means, a color used at random for objects that
have a common color, such as, a tree has green leaves, but we choose to make the leave purple or
making the sun black, the clouds green, or the sky yellow, etc.
Who was the first artist to employ the technique? I would have to say Katsushika Hokusai,
Kitagawa Utamaro, and AndВЇo Hiroshige had a role in the technique. The technique was used in
AndВЇo Hiroshige color woodcut print, ( Moon Pine at Ueno from One Hundred Views of Famous
Places in Edo ), (Pg. 27), because of the color use. The colors seem to be out of place, such as, the
sky s appearance being that of black, blue, and green, also the tree appears to have a redder tent
than what we would normally see in nature. Hiroshige and other Japanese artists had gotten young
artist thinking about color, arbitrary color, and pure color. One of the artist that took the color
techniques from color woodcut prints and Japanese prints was Paul Gauguin. Gauguin was truly
the first to employ arbitrary color techniques, which can be seen in his (Vision after the Sermon),
(Pg. 60), with vivid red paint in the back ground, splashes of green and blue tenting on the nuns
faces, these colors are not known in nature, and they are non descriptive. It just isn t natural to see
these colors placed this way. Thus, Gauguin s paintings influenced younger artist and affected their
ideas in the Nabis and Fauve periods. Later movements adopted this

Euthanizing banned dogs
Dog lovers and the public have been raving about a topic that has gone viral and is soon to be on
the rise: painless putting band dogs down. It is believed by many around the world that these
animals are vicious, and aggressive by nature. By reason and choice I also believe aggressive pit
bulls and other banned breed dogs should be destroyed by euthanasia, and any further breeding
should be terminated. These specific breeds of dogs are very unpredictable, and are seen to
have an aggressive nature. They also leave a long line of countless and unnecessary deaths in its
wake. Some argue if these dogs cease to exist altogether then there would be no problems, as
they would just be replaced by less vicious dogs. Many people would argue Pit bulls and other
banned dogs are always only as good as the environment they are raised in, and the kind of stress
they are put under.

her father s less than truths serves the purpose of telling Oskar a way to think and go about life

Taking a Look at Website Optimization
Website optimisation plays an important role in web development and maintenance. In this
article, we look at some basic website optimisation tricks one can use to help increase a site s
search engine ranking and increasing the traffic. Meta Description, Meta Keywords and Title
tags are still used by some search engines in order to catalog and rank Web pages. So, at the top
of each page, place a title tag to identify the document s overall content. It is also important to
write an accurate Meta description tag. Also, add a Meta keyword tag to help reveal the most
important keywords for each page to search engines. To make your website perform well with
search engines, use keywords on the Home and other essential pages. It s important to use these
keywords strategically throughout the website s content. Try and focus on areas that register
well with search engines (this also includes bold headings). Embed keywords in the anchor text
and try to use keywords to create a common theme or topic throughout the content on your
website. The reason for this is that search engines look for a theme on a website to produce more
relevant results. If you re not sure what keywords to use, softwares like WordTracker can help.
Remember that keyword proximity is also crucial for website optimisation. So make sure to place
your keywords as close to each other as possible, but also make sure that the content remains clear.
Most importantly, ensure an apt keyword weight or density. This

Your views with respect to the legal rights of HCPs during times of crisis.
Our views concerning the legal rights of HCPs during times of crisis align with the general
recommendations published since the last SARS crisis in Ontario. The SARS crisis brought
several legal and ethical debates to the public place. The most popular topics related to the legal
rights of HCPs during times of crisis surround were:
The HCPs Duty to care vs. HCPs individual rights and personal autonomy to use some discretion in
determining where, how, and when they will practice medicine. (CMA, 2008);
The right to refuse or to stop work where health or safety in danger, HCPs are excluded Part V

Another concern is about the public responsibility to ensure HCPs safe work environment.
Although, the HCPs are excluded from the OHSA, the employers still have the obligation to ensure
the health and safety of its employees. Because crisis, are exceptional situation, health organizations
should prepare its resources to assure the HCPs about the safeguard of their health and their family
members when on duty in high risk situation (Ruderman, et al., 2006).

Transcendentalism In Movies Essay
Perhaps one of the most meaningful maxims Emerson wrote would have to be quot;Insist on
yourself, never imitate. quot; This statement captures the total essence of transcendentalism; deny
the will and aspirations of others, and follow your own heart. The movie Dead Poets Society
begins by introducing the viewers to Todd Anderson, a very subdued and quiet young man. Todd
has the average inferiority complex. He is a very bright young man with exceptional abilities. Todd
is unwilling to speak his mind for fear of non acceptance. Charles Dalton is a seemingly average
student with a rebellious attitude. He has already realized that the students are being
quot;brainwashed quot; into living a preordained life.

Anglo-French Influence On English
At the same time Norman French became Anglo Norman as it was itself affected by English.
More than 10,000 French words found their way into English words associated with government,
law, art, literature, food, and many other aspects of life. About three quarters of these words are
still used, and words derived directly or indirectly from French now account for more than a third
of English vocabulary. In fact English speakers know around 15,000 French words, even before
they start learning the language. When the Normans invaded England, the Anglo Saxon literature
had reached a very high level of development. The important Benedictine monasteries wrote
Chronicles in Old English and guarded other works written in this language. But with the arrival of
the Normans, the Anglo Saxon literature came to an end and the literature written in Britain was in
Latin or in Anglo Norman. The Plantagenet kings encouraged this Anglo Norman literature.
Nevertheless, from the beginning of the 14th century, some authors chose to write in English, but it
is only during the late 14th century that English literature was at its best with... Show more content

An enormous number of Norman French words came into the language, and about three
quarters of them are still used today. Very often, the Norman French word supplanted the Anglo
Saxon term. Or both words would co exist, but with slightly different nuances. In other cases, the
Norman French word was adopted to signify a new reality, such as judge, castle, and warranty.[8]
Quite a lot of the words of French origin used in English sit alongside native English ones, and in
some cases there are words of Latin and/or Greek origin with similar meanings. Beef (from
French boeuf) is meat from a cow (from Old English cu), a type of bovine (from Latin bovinus

Analysis Of My MistressEyes Are Nothing Like The Sun
My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun... is a sonnet written by William Shakespeare and is
also known as Sonnet 130. He wrote this poem to mock the conventional Petrarchan love sonnets
which are about women who have unattainable beauty. This poem is written in the
Shakespearean sonnet format which consists of a total 14 lines with the first 12 lines divided
into three quatrains, and the last two lines make up a couplet. The quatrains establish the motif
or problem of the poem while the ending couplet explains or resolves the previous lines. Sonnet
130 is a long conceit where the speaker of the poem goes through a long list of comparisons that
seem like insults. The speaker uses juxtaposition to show that his love for his mistress is strong
by describing her in a blunt way that seems insulting on the surface, but he reveals in the end he
loves her even though she is flawed. In the first quatrain of My mistress eyes are nothing like the
sun... , the speaker is already showing that this is not an ordinary love poem. He says, my
mistress eyes are nothing like the sun (line 1). This metaphor depicts that the woman does not
have bright eyes. Most poets would use a clichГ© to describe a woman s eyes as bright or like
sapphires, but the speaker is saying there is nothing special about her eyes. Next, the speaker
describes the woman s lips. The color coral is slightly orange, but he believes coral is more red
than her lips. Also, most poets would describe their subjects to have bright, shiny red lips (2). In
these two lines, the speaker compares his mistress to things found in nature, and many people
associate beauty with nature. However, that is not the case with this poem. He describes her as
the complete opposite. In line 3, the woman s skin is described as gray which makes it seem like
her skin is dull. In Shakespeare s time, pale skin was more desirable, and since she does not have
a pale complexion, it would make her less attractive. The speaker then compares her hair to wire
in this line: If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head (4). A beautiful woman is usually
described as having silky locks. That is the opposite in this poem. This comparison depicts the
woman to have hair that lacks

Police Misconduct And Criminal Justice
Introduction Police executives have always had different issues within the police department.
Most police executives try to find a quick fix in order to solve the issue of police misconduct.
Police misconduct is defined as inappropriate action taken by police officers in relation with their
official duties (PoliceMisconduct Law Legal Definition, n.d.). In order to solve this issue, one must
acknowledge their different challenges, overcome the code of silence , and find out the role of
organizational culture.
Challenges Facing Police Executives There are many challenges facing the police executives in
the 21st century, such as civil disorder and criminal prosecution of officers. In recent years there
have been quite a few civil disorders. A civil disorder is a situation in which some citizens
behave in a way that threatens the wellbeing of other citizens or the peace of a community
(Cambridge Dictionaries, 2016). In the past seven years there has been a quite a few civil
disorders in the United States, such as the 2016 Donald Trump Chicago rally protest, the 2014
protest in Ferguson, Missouri, and the protests in New York, New York and Berkeley California
after a grand jury did not indict a police officer in the death of Eric Garner. Due to the causes of
some of these protests, the public have a distrust and lack of confidence in the law and the legal
system (Tyler, 2013). As a police executive, one would have to make decisions in hopes not only to

Lord Of The Flies Theme Analysis
Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of a man s heart (Golding 202).
This quote portrays, the loss of innocence and what horrifying effects it can do to one s heart.
The loss of innocence changes a person. One can determine that with Ralph when he becomes less
like a child and more like an adult. Even though, In William Golding s novel, Lord of The Flies he
demonstrates the boys being immature, one can perceive the boys maturing as their innocence is
slaughtered with the character Ralph.
In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, one can recognize maturity through the demolish of
innocence with Ralph realizing how much power he holds. To begin, Ralph comes to terms with
how much power he has when he realizes how much destruction one is capable of.
As the boys sit by the fire they mutter, You got your small fire alright. The boys were falling still
and silent feeling the awe at the power set free below them (Golding 44). To clarify, Ralph
recognizes the power he has when the fire that him and the boys created goes out of control.
When he does something wrong there is no grown up who is going to punish him he has to be
mature to be safe or he will create destruction. Ralph loses a shred of innocence that night.
Furthermore, Ralph realizes how much power has when he comes to terms of how much power a
man can hold over another s life. As they grieve over Simon s death young Piggy mentions, You

Compare And Contrast Anorexia And Bulimia Nervosa
There are many types of eating disorders but the one of the most commonly known one are
anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. People who suffer from anorexia are underweight due to
deprivation of food and people who suffer from bulimia eat excessive amounts of food then purge
all of that food via self induced vomitingor laxatives. Sufferers from anorexia and bulimia
experience emotional and physical problems which can lead to a detriment to their health.
Though both diseases are different, sufferers of anorexia and bulimia both have low self esteem.
The reason why I find this disease worth looking into because the results of both of these diseases
can be be highly dangerous; either leaving permanent damage to the body or damages that are
difficult to reverse. Self starvation slows down metabolism and people who are suffering from
anorexia are unable to function. Muscle is lost due to the lack of nutrients that sufferers are not

Emigre was the first type foundry that created type on a computer for computers. They also used to

In the People v. Landlords Professional Services, 215 Cal. App. 3d 1599; 264 Cal. Rptr. 548, the
court held that when a non attorney consults his or her clients individually and presents himself
or herself with expertise concerning certain legal problem, he or she is engaged in unauthorized

provided specific information to its clients concerning eviction procedure in the context of
personal interviews where it was able to provide additional information and advice addressed to
the specific problems and concerns of its clients, who were likely to rely on its advice, perhaps
to their serious detriment. This case is similar to Diana Lewis s case in that both Ms. Lewis and
LPS s representatives are not authorized to practice law. Both cases have the same issue of
definition of practice of law. They both provided legal document service. The difference is that
LPS held individual interviews with its clients and gave specific advice, whereas Ms. Lewis held
conference with her clients. However, Ms. Lewis did discuss with her clients before the court
hearing. State Bar could argue it is possible for Ms. Lewis to provide additional advice concerning
specific problems if her clients. Yet at

Description Of Aquila Constellation
AQUILA Constellation written by Chance Gearhart for AST 102, Fall 2017
Introduction:
Aquila is a constellation, not an asterism. A constellation is a group of stars forming a recognizable
pattern that is traditionally named after its apparent form or identified with a mythological figure.
Aquila is located in the northern sky close to the celestial equator. In Latin, Aquila means the eagle.
The purpose of this assignment is for students to learn how to recognize the Aquila constellation in
the night sky and learn about the stars and mythology behind it.
Description of Aquila:
The Aquila constellation is usually described as the eagle. The stars in this constellation form an
arrow in the sky. It looks similar to a bird with two large triangles spreading out on both sides and
a small tail from the back. Aquila is home to Altair, which is the brightest star in its constellation but
also the twelfth brightest star in the night sky. There is a picture of Aquila in the night sky in the
attachment to this paper.
How to locate Aquila:
The Aquila constellation is best seen in the northern summer due to its location along the Milky
Way. To locate Aquila it is best to first locate Altair in the Summer Triangle asterism. The Summer
Triangle is made out of three stars: Vega, Altair, and Deneb. Altair should be relatively easy to find
because it is a first magnitude star. It will be the second brightest star in the Summer Triangle. After
finding Altair, you should look for the

An Introduction Of Martingale Theory
Introduction to Martingale Theory
Martingale Theory is a simple mathematical model which models sequence of a fair game [1]. It
is a stochastic process on some probability space {О©, F, P}. Originally it was used as a betting
strategy during 18th century in France. In 1934, Paul LГ©vy introduced concept of Martingale in
probability theory. It is named after La Grande Martingale, which means strategy for even odd bets
where bets are doubled every time we lose. Idea behind this betting strategy is tht one cannot expect
gains without taking risks.
To understand Martingale, we need to understand Filtration first.

Taking a Look at Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll was born on January 27, 1832, as Charles Lutwidge Dodgson to a family of
workers in the army and Church (and a whole family full of Charles ). His great grandfather, also
Charles Dodgson, had been a bishop. His grandfather, another Charles Dodgson, had been an
army captain and ended up being killed in battle, leaving two children behind. The elder son,
Charles, went to Westminster and then Oxford. This Charles married his cousin in 1827 and
became a country parson. Out of this marriage came yet another Charles. Our Charles, who came
to use the penname of Lewis Carroll (and, gee, I wonder why). He was the third of eleven
children who, remarkably, all lived to adulthood. The first years of his education were spent at
home and consisted of reading materials and progressing at his own rate. By the age of seven,
he was reading The Pilgrim s Progress. It s been said that he was originally left handed but was
forced to adapt to use his right hand, which was not an uncommon practice at the time. There is
no evidence of such a thing happening, though, nor of the trauma it supposedly caused a young
Carroll (VictorianWeb). He began attending Oxford in 1851. After attending the school for two
days, however, he was called home due to his mother s death. Young Charles didn t let her death
distract too much from his path at Oxford. He did not always give his best or work his hardest in
his academic career, but he was an exceptionally gifted student and achievement came

Olaudah Equiano Is Lucky Slave
Olaudah Equiano is lucky Slave...
Imagine life as an average American, you wake up get ready for the day whether that is work,
school, or daily errands. Now as you walk from the front door to your car, you are suddenly
snatched with a bag over your head. You are held captive against your own will shipped overseas
for months and the moment you arrive, it is expected for you to work till death. This exact story
happened to Olaudah Equiano when he was captured in Africa and brought to the North America at
the age of 11. Equiano faced much hardship and near life experiences but he was fortunate than
many other slaves by his ability to learn english, and encountering masters that were kind to him.
It is difficult to portray a young boy as fortunate when his life quickly took a turn on him one
day working. Being a prisoner of someone else is a hard experience to suppress especially when
one is stripped from their family and homeland. The trials he faced challenged his will to live
physically and mentally. He was once reunited with his sister, just to be torn out of her sight
forever again. This time he felt the days passing were unbearable, ...I became so sick and low
that I was not able to eat, nor had I the least desire to taste anything. I now wished for the last
friend, death, to relieve me (Equiano 54). When Equiano was in negative environments he felt the
tragedy of wanting to end his life. He would wake up knowing that his life could end at any
moment if he were to make

Mass Migrations During The Harlem Renaissance
The mass migrations of blacks into Harlem happened around the early 1900 as living conditions
worsen in other parts of the country. Specifically, the KKK in South Carolina, and racial
segregation and biases across the south enforced by the Jim Crow Laws, forced black families to go
north in search of better housing, jobs and education for their children, and more so, to move away
from a culture of lynching and violence. They did not anticipate the violent situations they would
face in the North. Due to discrimination they were pushed further and further up Manhattan and
into neighborhoods that were over concentrated with blacks and minorities. At times, they faced

Harlem was also the place where spirituality evolved for the African Americans. They began to
establish their own churches with black pastors I places ranging from small store front to wealthy
churches. The NAACP was very active in the Black movements in Harlem. There were frequent
racial disorders occurring all over the country. In Harlem, the blacks were reactive and as a result,
there were violent out breaks between blacks and whites, and the Harlem Renaissance at one point
was halted because people were afraid to travel to Harlem. Once the Harlem Renaissance was under
way, the political and social reformers began promoting it because it promoted African American
achievements, and was a representation of a modernist vision of a new social and cultural
landscape for Blacks. The Harlem Renaissance was an expression of literary, artistic and
intellectual works. Jazz was another form of expression for the black in Harlem, but it was not the
focal point of the Harlem Renaissance. Their art was the focal point because it was an expression
of the black community and their pride and

Symbolism In Parker s Back, By Flannery O Connor
The Grace filled Tattoo Flannery O Connor is known for portraying the lives of broken and
grotesque individuals in her writing. In Parker s back, O Connor depicts the life of a broken
man and shows through his life that grace reaches to all people, even the broken. Parker, the
main character, is a man who constantly runs away from God, but develops a relationship with
him at the end of the story. With the use of irony, biblical allusions, and symbolism, Flannery
creates a highly detailed story that conveys a message of the grace of God and the fulfilment
from having a relationship with Him. As a result of sin, the human soul is constantly in a battle
between good and evil. Some people choose to live a lifestyle of sin while others work towards...

In the story, Parker does not want to be referred to as Obadiah, his first name. He says to Sarah,
If you call me that aloud, I ll bust your head open (O Connor 574). Parker s refusal to refer to
himself as Obadiah is symbolic of him refusing to follow Christ. Obadiah means servant of God,
and not wanting to be referred to as this symbolizes his attitude toward following Christ. In the
story, Parker s runs away and joins the army after his mother attempts to bring him to Christ (O
Connor 572). Parker running away to join the army is symbolic of him running away from God.
Another symbolic element in the story is Parker s tattoos. Parker s tattoos symbolized him looking
for a purpose. Through his tattoos he tries to find fulfillment and purpose; however, he does not
know that the only way he can experience what he s looking for is through a relationship with
Christ. These symbolic element reveal Parker s determined attitude in running away from Christ;
however, grace is still bestowed upon him and he experiences the fulfillment that he looks

Dbq On Athens
The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new,
said Socrates, a famous Greek philosopher. Athens was one of many city states in Ancient Greece.
This city state had a form of government that was for the people to have a say. Athens had great
geography that was advantageous for them. Athens also had many achievements culturally such as
architecture and philosophy. The city state that was superior was Athens because of their
geography, government, and cultural achievements.

Rising 500 feet above sea level, the Acropolis in Athens showcases some of the finest examples of
Greek architecture. (Document C: Architecture in Athens) Architecture is one of the greatest
aspects of Athenian culture. These beautiful buildings such as the Acropolis were attractions for
citizens of other city states or even countries when visiting Athens, These citizens were able to learn
a little bit about Athens culture through the architecture and many other things such as religion,
literature, art, entertainment, and much more. Philosophy was the special way Greeks attempted to
make sense out of the world, in a non religious way. This means that rather than using myths and
stories to understand the world, they would use their intelligence and reasoning skills. (Document

philosophers lived in Athens. They expressed how they believed the world and everything in it
works and how it came to be. Whatever these philosophers were able to figure out based on their
knowledge, the citizens would start to think about the world too and choose their beliefs on how it
worked and came to be. Citizens were also able to learn about Athens culture through the
philosophy because they would be able to see what Athenians believed and compare it to their
beliefs. These are all reasons why Athens is

Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking
Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and
soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but
horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I
looked at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the
public looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the
dissonance began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically
diagnosed with mild obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonancemade me begin to
change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our
behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors.
Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he
used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that
something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin
et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It
is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the
matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one
feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public
approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the
disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we
naturally want to avoid it by either change our behaviors or our beliefs.
Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the
Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths
drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes
of the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths
drinking (Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Glatz et al

Explain The Purpose Of An Operating System
Explain the purpose of an Operating System: Operating Systems manage hardware and provide
services for application software; this means that it makes it easier for users to interact with
different software and hardware available on the computer. The most common operating systems
are Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. While each OS is different, they all provide a graphical
user interface GUI a GUI allows users to click and drag objects with a mouse instead of entering
text at a command line. Characteristics of an Operating System: Multi User allows multiple users
to use the same computer at the same time or different times. The most common and most well
known OS that use s multi user is Windows 7. Multitasking is performing more than one task at
the same time, a task being a program. Multiprocessing is the support of more than one processor
at the same time. Applications in a multi processing system are broken into smaller routines that
run by themselves. Multithreading is the operating system process to manage its use by more than
one user at a time or manage multiple tasks by the same user without having the need of multiple
copies of the program running on the computer. GUI (Graphical User Interface) allows users to
click and drag objects with a mouse instead of entering text at a command line. A GUI uses
windows, icons, and menus to carry out commands for instance opening files, deleting files, and
moving files. Main four functions of an Operating System: Control

The Relationship Between Csr Disclosures And Corporate...
Introduction Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined as the corporate initiatives taken by
the company which take responsibility to its stakeholders (Tricker, 2012). Over the years, most of
the public listed companies are moving away from shareholders oriented to stakeholders oriented.
This might be because they realised that it was no longer enough to focus on financial performance
alone to enhance business sustainability and credibility. The companies with stakeholder perception
believe that the CSR practices has a positive impact on their Corporate Financial Performance
(CFP) and reputation. Although the CSR disclosures is a legal requirement in some countries, the
companyhas become increasingly willing to disclose CSR practices in their annual report. The rapid
increase in CSR disclosures raises the question of what is the rationale behind CSR disclosure
(Dhaliwal et al, 2011). What benefits does a company gain by engaging in CSR and discloses them
in the annual report? This paper will examine the relationship between CSR disclosures and
corporate performance by using academic literature. The corporate performance is focused on the
financial profitability of the company.
Previous Studies
The relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosures and corporate
performance is controversial. Many prior studies (Solomon Solomon, 2003; Dhaliwal et al, 2011;

Analysis Of The Vendetta By Guy De Maupassure
Whether to take revenge on someone is a choice many people will have to make at some point in
life. Some would say that while it might feel good to get back at a person who has wronged us, it
is not usually the right choice for an individual to make. Other people disagree and feel that getting
justice by any means is more important. Guy de Maupassant deals with this issue in his short story
The Vendetta, and the tone he develops throughout the text helps readers to see this central idea.
The story reveals that revenge requires time, effort and determination.

is what will lead to reader to soon figure out the unfortunate events that will occur. While in the
second part of the story the mother grieves over her dead son who has just been stabbed and

  • 2. Internet Addiction ( Pathological Internet Use ) Essay Internet Addiction ( Pathological Internet Use ) The Internet has become one of the most universal methods for communication with over 100 million users worldwide. From e mail to the possibly billions of web pages, there is an infinite amount of information flowing. And another enticing aspect of the Internet, is the opportunity to interact with other people. Chat Rooms and MUD (Multi User Dimensional) games offer the person the ability to talk and mingle with others online. But with this newfound freedom, also comes the possibility of abuse and addiction. Internet addiction, also known as Pathological Internet use, has emerged as a very destructive force in today s society. David Greenfield believes an estimated 6 ... Neglecting family activities, social events, work, school in order to spend more time on the Internet is probably the biggest sign of Internet addiction. (Young) But also suffering withdrawal symptoms, not being able to limit time online, constantly thinking about the next online session, and preferring to talk to cyber friends rather than face to face conversations are also signs. There are about 3 distinct situations in which internet addiction can take form although they all are based on the need of personal contact, and ability to change personal status to gain peer recognition Online games, chat rooms, and cyber sexual addiction. Greenfield tries to identify these separate cases. One way a person becomes addicted to the net is through online games. It is a fantasy world where the player takes on the name of a character and they battle other on line players accumulating points and status from other players. While online, the player feels in control of their destiny, yet off line they feel less competent and maybe awkward when not playing. (Greenfield) I have been part of this MUD gaming system, and I must say that it was exciting. Although I wasn t that really interested in it after a few times of play, because the others were a lot better than I was, and I would lose almost every match almost indefinitely. • 3. The Heroes Of Ancient Greek Myths Two Brilliant Heroes in Ancient Greek Myths Who has not heard of heroes in Greek mythology? They are the role models, inspirations, and protagonists in myths. In ancient times, after a long work day, the members of the community have little to no energy remaining, but utilize what strength they have left in a magnificent manner. The citizens meet up, and entertain themselves with myths regarding heroes, monsters, gods and goddesses. However, the most popular myths revolved around heroes, and their adventures. In the majority of myths, heroes participate in impossible adventures, and miraculously, came back with more confidence than they had when they set out. The heroes in these myths are the ones that everyone loves and appreciates. Two examples of famous heroes are Hercules and Achilles. They are two well known heroes that play active roles in myths, and teach valuable life lessons. The two myths and the role of the heroes in them that are analyzed here are two fan favourites: the myth of Hercules and Athena, and the myth of Achilles and the Trojan War. Hercules s adventure begins as soon as he is born. The fact that he is a product of Zeus and a mortal enrages Hera, Zeus s wife, and Hercules suffers. As a result of this, Hera sends two snakes to kill him in his crib. The infant Hercules is unusually strong and strangles the snakes before they can assassinate him. As one can see from is, he is the most superior of all mortals, and stronger than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Kane, Gatsby, And The American Dream The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Citizen Kane a movie directed by Orson Welles are both monumental stories in American society as they both represent the American dream at it s most brilliant high. The Great Gatsby is all about time and the American dream; it is essentially what consumes Gatsby. Both Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American dream, and as we read into their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined that it is hard to see them apart. Other key factors play into this such as the failed pursuit of love and being in a sea of admirers and feeling like you are the only person there. Jay Gatsbyreinvents himself at the ripe young age of seventeen; this is when he officially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike Gatsby however, Kane would like to relive his childhood, something Gatsby destroyed. Kane s last utterance, rosebud is a large standing testament to his want to return to childhood. Throughout the movie we see him as a large, powerful figure that is newsworthy for scandals and successes among other things. We realize though that the things that made him who he was, were not the things that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. And the last word, rosebud is certainly an argument to that because it is the last thing we understand of him, and it is essentially him being at his most venerable and most alone time. When he leaves his family he is embarking on a lonely trail, Thatcher is a money obsessed business mogul and therefore does not develop Kane or even try to create a solid relationship with him, which sets Kane up for a lifestyle of loneliness. This loneliness extends into his business deals as he takes the world by storm. • 7. A Non Indigenous Social Worker I really enjoyed this week s readings as I was able to gain a better understand of topics that I have never discussed before. As a non Indigenous social worker, it is necessary to understand the aboriginal people s history and the impacts faced from the residential school era. According to Walmsley (2009) although the last residential school closed in 1996, their influence is omnipresent in Indigenous communities today (p. 98). By being honest in saying, I am sorry, I do not understand this or could you please tell more about this can really help in building trust worthy relationships. Like Walmsley (2009) said one way to optimize learning is to choose a cultural guide, someone who is respected by all, knowledgeable about the community and with whom a non Indigenous social worker can develop an open trusting relationship (p. 104). This could be a band social worker, band councillor, or Elder. They are able to provide more insight and knowledge then what I would generally expect to gain from academics. Just as it is important to understand other cultures, it is as important to know my own culture. It helps in understanding why I believe the things I do and recognize the concepts that have shaped my own thinking. In a sense, these are my feelings and thoughts about how I was raised or the things I liked or didn t like about parenting. These values are based on my own experiences of what I believe is effective childcare and ways in which children should be taught, guided, supported and disciplined (Walmsley, 2009, p. 104). For instance, I relate this to something we discussed in class about hitting your child. I have been slapped as a child; it was a form of discipline at times which I think is justifiable (like the times I would refuse to not take medication which was going to help me feel better). Some people think that global warming has been caused because of human activities. The rise in atmospheric CO2 over the last century was clearly caused by human activity, as it occurred at a rate much faster than natural climate changes could produce. Over the past 650,000 years, atmospheric CO2 levels did not rise above 300 ppm until the mid 20th century (Climatechange.procon.org ) According to that atmospheric levels record, the rising of the atmospheric CO2 levels has been caused by the human activities and if human activities didn t happen, the changes that natural climate could produce would have happened way slower so that means less damage to the globe since the changes would have occurred at a speed that the climate is designed to. 2. • 9. The Importance Of Poetry In Literature Danish Faruqi Sometimes you come to hate things not because of what they are, but because of what meant to you. They haven t done anything particularly done anything to you directly. But them being in your presence doesn t help. I don t hate a lot of things, and in literature, that list is even smaller. Through my experiences in 12th grade, I realized my new found hatred for confessional poetry and its effects. Due to my experiences, I don t appreciate or rather take notice to literature that might be very interesting. For our Highschool, 12th grade was an interesting year, especially since this was the first year that an inter school debate talks would take place. Something that was sponsored by the chancellor and the mayor. Before we even knew about this competition, our class was chosen. When we got to know about this, the class and the teacher didn t share the same enthusiasm, to say the least. We were reluctant to participate in anything that put us in front of cameras or other people. But the teacher was startled and proud that one of her classes was chosen to participate. And thus, the race to compete was on. Since the debate talks were on Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own, it required us to understand her style of writing Stream of Consciousness. From there on, our part was to understand a book which has multiple meanings and multiple perspectives. To make things easier, our teacher chose to use confessional poetry as a method to uplift only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women’s Reproductive Rights Are In Danger Essay The battle for women s reproductive rights is similar to the struggle for African Americans to have the full liberty of speech in public and private as Dredd Scott found out in 1865 when he petitioned for his personal freedom from slavery and lost. Moreover women s reproductive rights are akin to defending the rights of racial equality, civil rights, desegregation, same sex marriage, and universal human rights. Every individual should have the right to choose how to live his or her private life in today s society without governmental interference or control. The Pursuit of Happyness Essay Social stereotypes and Happiness The Pursuit of Happyness 11/21/2012 Instructor: Prof. Kristin Little Author: Tareq Naseer Alsamarh Social stereotypes and happiness The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in the story wonders on how to be happy? He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife, he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do. Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together. Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks did mom leave because of me? (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women are less likely to be hired for a job despite having all the qualifications, women earn less than men, and women are continuously harassed in the workplace. Despite the fact that women are capable to perform with the same skill and success as men, the issue of genderdiscrimination still continues to rise( ). In society, sometimes it can be difficult to recognize issues of sexismnot only at work but in life. With the failure to realize gender discrimination and harassment in the world, educating people on the issue of sexism can make the workplace a success. A majority of women aspire to obtain a higher position in their work force, but achieving that role can be difficult. • 15. Kitagawa Utamaro And Paul Gauguin s Use Of Color Techniques Describe specifically what the term arbitrary color means, a color used at random for objects that have a common color, such as, a tree has green leaves, but we choose to make the leave purple or making the sun black, the clouds green, or the sky yellow, etc. Who was the first artist to employ the technique? I would have to say Katsushika Hokusai, Kitagawa Utamaro, and AndВЇo Hiroshige had a role in the technique. The technique was used in AndВЇo Hiroshige color woodcut print, ( Moon Pine at Ueno from One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo ), (Pg. 27), because of the color use. The colors seem to be out of place, such as, the sky s appearance being that of black, blue, and green, also the tree appears to have a redder tent than what we would normally see in nature. Hiroshige and other Japanese artists had gotten young artist thinking about color, arbitrary color, and pure color. One of the artist that took the color techniques from color woodcut prints and Japanese prints was Paul Gauguin. Gauguin was truly the first to employ arbitrary color techniques, which can be seen in his (Vision after the Sermon), (Pg. 60), with vivid red paint in the back ground, splashes of green and blue tenting on the nuns faces, these colors are not known in nature, and they are non descriptive. • 25. Analysis Of My MistressEyes Are Nothing Like The Sun My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun... is a sonnet written by William Shakespeare and is also known as Sonnet 130. He wrote this poem to mock the conventional Petrarchan love sonnets which are about women who have unattainable beauty. This poem is written in the Shakespearean sonnet format which consists of a total 14 lines with the first 12 lines divided into three quatrains, and the last two lines make up a couplet. The quatrains establish the motif or problem of the poem while the ending couplet explains or resolves the previous lines. Sonnet 130 is a long conceit where the speaker of the poem goes through a long list of comparisons that seem like insults. The speaker uses juxtaposition to show that his love for his mistress is strong by describing her in a blunt way that seems insulting on the surface, but he reveals in the end he loves her even though she is flawed. In the first quatrain of My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun... , the speaker is already showing that this is not an ordinary love poem. He says, my mistress eyes are nothing like the sun (line 1). This metaphor depicts that the woman does not have bright eyes. Most poets would use a clichГ© to describe a woman s eyes as bright or like sapphires, but the speaker is saying there is nothing special about her eyes. Next, the speaker describes the woman s lips. The color coral is slightly orange, but he believes coral is more red than her lips. Also, most poets would describe their subjects to have bright, shiny red lips (2). In these two lines, the speaker compares his mistress to things found in nature, and many people associate beauty with nature. However, that is not the case with this poem. He describes her as the complete opposite. In line 3, the woman s skin is described as gray which makes it seem like her skin is dull. In Shakespeare s time, pale skin was more desirable, and since she does not have a pale complexion, it would make her less attractive. The speaker then compares her hair to wire in this line: If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head (4). A beautiful woman is usually described as having silky locks. That is the opposite in this poem. This comparison depicts the woman to have hair that lacks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Description Of Aquila Constellation AQUILA Constellation written by Chance Gearhart for AST 102, Fall 2017 Introduction: Aquila is a constellation, not an asterism. A constellation is a group of stars forming a recognizable pattern that is traditionally named after its apparent form or identified with a mythological figure. Aquila is located in the northern sky close to the celestial equator. In Latin, Aquila means the eagle. The purpose of this assignment is for students to learn how to recognize the Aquila constellation in the night sky and learn about the stars and mythology behind it. Description of Aquila: The Aquila constellation is usually described as the eagle. The stars in this constellation form an arrow in the sky. It looks similar to a bird with two large triangles spreading out on both sides and a small tail from the back. Aquila is home to Altair, which is the brightest star in its constellation but also the twelfth brightest star in the night sky. There is a picture of Aquila in the night sky in the attachment to this paper. How to locate Aquila: The Aquila constellation is best seen in the northern summer due to its location along the Milky Way. To locate Aquila it is best to first locate Altair in the Summer Triangle asterism. The Summer Triangle is made out of three stars: Vega, Altair, and Deneb. Altair should be relatively easy to find because it is a first magnitude star. It will be the second brightest star in the Summer Triangle. After finding Altair, you should look for the ... It is a stochastic process on some probability space {О©, F, P}. Originally it was used as a betting strategy during 18th century in France. In 1934, Paul LГ©vy introduced concept of Martingale in probability theory. It is named after La Grande Martingale, which means strategy for even odd bets where bets are doubled every time we lose. Idea behind this betting strategy is tht one cannot expect gains without taking risks. To understand Martingale, we need to understand Filtration first. We pick out one ball, observe its color and place it back in the container along with another ball of the same color. Draw another ball from the same container. Probability of drawing red ball in first try is r/(r+b) and that of blue ball is b /(r+b). In second draw, probability of red ball being drawn if a red ball was drawn first time will be (r+1)/(r+b+1). Probability of red ball being drawn if a blue ball was drawn first time will be r /(r+b+x). Probability of a red ball being drawn on second draw P(Red : Draw =2) = ((r+1)/(r+b+1))*(r/(r+b))+((r/r+b+1)*(b/r+b)) = r/(r+b) [3] Example of Submartingale, Supermartingale : In a coin toss we have three coins. • 48. Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonancemade me begin to change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors. Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by either change our behaviors or our beliefs. Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking (Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Introduction Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined as the corporate initiatives taken by the company which take responsibility to its stakeholders (Tricker, 2012). Over the years, most of the public listed companies are moving away from shareholders oriented to stakeholders oriented. This might be because they realised that it was no longer enough to focus on financial performance alone to enhance business sustainability and credibility. The companies with stakeholder perception believe that the CSR practices has a positive impact on their Corporate Financial Performance (CFP) and reputation. Although the CSR disclosures is a legal requirement in some countries, the companyhas become increasingly willing to disclose CSR practices in their annual report. The rapid increase in CSR disclosures raises the question of what is the rationale behind CSR disclosure (Dhaliwal et al, 2011). What benefits does a company gain by engaging in CSR and discloses them in the annual report? This paper will examine the relationship between CSR disclosures and corporate performance by using academic literature. The corporate performance is focused on the financial profitability of the company.
