The Energy Crisis Of Josh Fox s Documentary, Gasland, And...
The menace and lucrativeness of the energy crisis in the United States combined with the
egregious aftereffects correlated with natural gas extraction makes the subject of hydraulic
fracturing a very high stakes issue. Given the topic, the implications of Josh Fox s documentary,
Gasland, are as high stakes as could be expected. According to Fox s claims in Gasland, the price
of not believing his accusations is too steep to ignore. After the documentary came out in 2010
(IMDb), the industry that Fox sought to condemn agreed that the cost was high, but the
consequences for them were opposite: if the public believed Fox s claims and mobilized against
fracking, a multi billion dollar industry stood to collapse (Carroll). So how could a mere movie be
so threatening? More importantly, where are the chinks in its armor?
At the University of California Berkeley, The Craft of Research, is so highly sought after by
undergraduate students and their teachers, that professors warn students to snag their copy of the
revered book as soon as possible, before the campus bookstore inevitably runs out. In it, budding
research writers are warned about the consequences of insufficient evidence. The tome warns that
the problem of sufficient evidence is even worse when readers resist your solution because they
have a stake in a different one (Booth 142). Since Fox s solution basically leaves no room for
fracking to continue in a profitable manner, the natural gas industry definitely has a

Economic Policies Of El Salvador And Other Nations Essay
Dollarization: A Comparison of Economic Policies in El Salvador and Other Nations
Dollarization is the process in which nations replace their domestic currencies [with foreign
legal tender] ...to obtain economic growth and stability (Rivera Solis 330). The US dollar is the
most common choice of exchange in this practice, though the adoption of other first world states
currencies may be entertained as well. Though its effects are not instant, US dollarization has
brought many gradual benefits to the economic statuses of several countries. There are two types
of dollarization: official and unofficial. In the process of official dollarization, a state gives
complete monetary control to a foreign nation, ceding its right to both create a central bank and
issue a domestic form of currency. Where as a nation loses its sovereignty to make decisions
concerning its money supply in official dollarization, unofficial dollarization allows states to keep
most of its control in place. Nations who implement dollarization unofficially keep their ability to
own a central bank to fall back on, in cases of economic emergency, and regulate their own
currency. Some studies encourage the promotion of official dollarization, while other scorn it s
outcome and option for its slighter counterpart, partial dollarization, instead. This paper explores
the differences in both policies and the effects of dollarization on four separate nations: El Salvador,
Panama, Zimbabwe, and the British Virgin

West Jest vs Air Canada Essay
How serious is the threat from conventional airlines that want to imitate the westjet culture? What
does it take to imitate organizational culture? Can Air Canada compete against westjet s employee
productivity and its relationship with its employees?
Ever since its establishment in 1996, WestJet has aimed to operate as a low cost carrier while
employing non unionized members in a unique organizational culture. In its simplest form this
unique organizational culture can be labeled as a labor managed firm. In a labor managed firm
employees are owners, and they are affected by the company s performance through profit sharing.
Then it should not be surprising that in labor managed firms, the employees can voice their
opinions and actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A labor force in its most basic form, through profit maximizing practices, must be minimized, due to
the cost associated with it, in order to drive up profit. And it is because of this outlook that WestJet
has managed to outperform their competition, for example Air Canada. This theory is in sync with
the findings of Jeffery Pfeffer in his 1995 paper Producing sustainable competitive advantage
through the effective management of people.
As described above, the organizational culture, the foundation of WestJet s success, is heavily
weighted on its people. Where as the competition, sees the workforce as a cost and aims to
minimize it, WestJet looks at their work force as an asset and an investment. Conventional
airlines run their business as any other company. They look out for the shareholder s best interest
and do not pay the slightest attention to their workforce. In WestJet s culture, the workforce
consists of the shareholders due to profit sharing and co operative environment. By nature
capital managed firms will have a hard time converting to labor managed firm. They will have to
change a lot of rules and regulations that governs their everyday operations. They will face a
large number of opposition by their shareholders. According to Fernandez Guadano (2009) even if
they do manage to adopt similar practices as labor managed firms, they will never be able to
achieve the same rate of employee ownership and profit sharing as their counterparts,

Allen Ginsberg Influences
Allen Ginsberg was one of the 20th century s most influential poets. He was viewed as one of the
founding fathers of the Beat Movement. He is also known for his works like Howl. Allen
Ginsberg, born Irwin Allen Ginsberg, was born on June 3, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey. His
mother and father was Naomi and Louis Ginsberg. His parents were members of the Jewish
New York literary counterculture of the 1920s. During this time, Ginsberg was raised in the
midst of a number of progressive political perspectives that would later influence how he viewed
life as a whole and also influence his work. Ginsberg s mother was a supporter of the Communist
party. With that, she was a nudist. Her mental health was a major issue all throughout Ginsberg s
childhood. Because of this, Ginsberg witnessed his mother s insanity first hand while growing up
causing it to have a major impact on his own views. Ginsberg also developed a certain sense of
connection with people dealing with such issues and was able to tolerate it at such a level. In his
adolescent years, Ginsberg greatly favored Walt Whitman. Because Ginsberg wanted to live out a
childhood dream of getting in Columbia University like his childhood idol, Whitman, he made it a
personal goal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the mid 40s, Ginsberg not only geared all his focus to his writing, but also explore his
attraction to men. As a student at Columbia in the 1940s, he began close friendships with his
colleagues William S. Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Jack Kerouac. These men would later
become the leading figures that started the Beat movement. This group of men helped sculpt
Ginsberg s perspective on life. Ginsberg called it a New Vision. He compared it to art and how art
should be the raw cut form of how an individual feels, and individual expression, that requires one
to reach into the deepest and most inner parts of the human mind to create such a masterpiece that it
would in turn be considered true

The Energy And Environmental Design System
In reaction to our current global environmental crisis, the idea of eliminating negative
environmental impacts attracts environmental policy makers and markets to sustainable or green

goods, fashion, landscape design and architectureto meld striking design and function. However, the
realm of architecture exhibits a unique challenge to sustainability. Construction projects generally
utilize large amounts of material, produce waste and oftentimes involve vetting the preservation of
buildings that have historical significance against the desire for modern designs. To help alleviate

A View From A Bridge
Following the Second World War in 1945, America emerged from the conflict as a prestigious
superpower and saw the 1950s begin as an era of prosperity and wealth. However, the beginnings
of the Cold War saw increased tension between the USA and the USSR and the capitalist and
communist ideologies. These clashes along with the rise of nuclear power contributed to a tense
and fearful atmosphere, giving rise to a period of McCarthyism. This saw communist witch hunts
and people accused and prosecuted for sympathising with the left political economic model. Author
Arthur Miller was one of such victims; in 1956 he was trialled and fined for refusing to give the
names of communist sympathisers before the House Un American Activities Committee.... Show

Immigration remains a popular political but also ethical topic. For one, we like to consider
ourselves progressive and moving towards a more multicultural world, yet we continue to cherry
pick immigrants with the right qualifications and skills and there is still talk of foreign born
people taking Australian jobs and being detrimental to the economy. The Syrian refugee crisis
exposes further moral and ethical issues linking to the play as even though Australia has granted
12,000 humanitarian places since March 2017, we have done little to help the 5.1 million
refugees escaping the civil war and much controversy and division remains over the topic. The
structure of A View From the Bridge is linear in showing a progression of time. The exposition
introduces the still relevant topics of cross cultural conflicts, justice and the law as well as class
through the construction of setting through staging, dialogue and characterisation. Class is
introduced through the setting, the Italian American neighbourhood of Red Hook, in a worker s
flat, clean, sparse and homely which conveys a working class household. It is also communicated
through the characterisation of Eddie achieved through dialogue and costume. His dialogue is
quite rough and casual, perhaps signifying lower levels of education, for example Where you goin

Synopsis Of Storytelling Games
Alex Ingles
Dr. Liane Ritchey Sillet
AWR 201 A
6/12/2016
Thesis: Storytelling in games gives the gamers the opportunity to be involved in the game,
experience the characters, stimulate feelings like fear and excitement and let the player know they
make situations happen and the choices they make affect the outcome as well as motivate them to
continue on.
Background:
After reading parts of The Storytelling Animal, it was clear that storytelling is in everything. As
an avid videogame player it was evident that many of the games that people play, like Battlefield,
have a storyline. After reading articles from the Proquest database like From Computer Games to
Interactive stories, a plan was developing about games and stories. Other thoughts on the thesis
were whether video games have stories and traits of their own and should these games have a
storyline, especially since it is a game. After researching and a discussion about this topic with the
professor, it was decided to do the first thesis idea. The topic is extensive in gaming articles and
magazines. Gamers on both sides have an opinion. It seemed that most of the articles read dealt
with stories and games rather than just gameplay. An article by Jan Simons in Game Studies
discusses the narrative theory extensively as well as the ludology and narratology side.
Theoretical Issues:
When studying video games one needs to know how human behavior works. Most theories
regarding video games deal with the violent actions

Colberg s Theory Of Psychosexual Development
Introduction
The term development refers to change or growth that occurs in children. It starts with infancy and
continues to adulthood. A development theory concern with three things and it deal with change
over time. First, it should describe changes over time within an area or several areas of
development. Second, it should describe changes among areas of development. Third, it should
explain these changes. In developmental theory it focuses on abnormal behavior and later
researchers became increasingly interested in other topics including typical child development as
well as the influences on development. It is very important to understand the child development,
because it allows us to fully appreciate the cognitive, emotional, physical, social, and educational
growth that children go through from birth and into early adulthood. This essay will briefly ... Show

Freud s theory of psychosexual development is one of the wonderful theories and it is the first

Should Geroge Have Killed Lennie
As people may know, George Milton is accused for the murder of Lennie smalls instantly killing
him in the back of his head. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this
madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let
Lennie live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George s best friend whom he took care of
all the time because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his
friend be tortured and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George
would choose to take the law into his own hands. Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck

Another reason George had no other choice was that Lennie was not fully aware of his mental
abilities as he was his physical strengths which often lead to Lennie getting in trouble like his one
one incident that happened in weed before they came to the ranch. Also, aside from Curley s
Wife Lennie has killed other things before such as a mouse that he found, and a puppy on the
ranch so Lennie could be a danger or potential threat to others on the ranch which would make
sense to why George would have simply no other realistic choice but to kill him. Lastly, Lennie
would have been shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him
Lennie would have died in fear and that is exactly what George did not want to happen. Csrlson
had also wanted to shoot Lennie and Geroge might have remembered Carlson shooting Candy s
dog and after candy saying I ought to have shot the dog myself . George could have realized that
if he did not shot Lennie himself than he would regret it just like Candy had. Lennie was so big
that he unaware of his strengths and he could have hurt someone else again or he could have put
his own life in jeopardy as well. George killing Lennie was justified because George was Lennie
s best friend and Geroge knew that he Curley was going to kill Lennie anyways. George and
Lennie both dreamed of living on a ranch together but because of both of their diasadvantages that

Rhetorical Appeals In I Have A Dream Speech
During the 1960s, racism and discrimination were an enormous issue in the United States. To
highlight problems with African Americans Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave one of the greatest
speeches in modern history when he spoke the words I Have a Dream on August 28, 1963. King
began his speech by saying, I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as
the greatest demonstration of freedom in the history of our nation (King). He emphasized on the
racial injustice and his dream for unifying society to bring equilibrium back. Throughout the speech,
he used a very sophisticated voice and kept the audience engaged while carefully choosing the
language and structure of his speech. Using keywords like we, our, dream, justice, freedom on his
speech, King highlighted the importance of the theme.
While listening and reading the speech, the civil rights leader divided his speech into two halves.
The first half of the speech he is emphasizing on the injustice toward the African Americans, and the
second half he talks about the future of the Nation living the American dream equally and united.

husband to feed their infants as the husband is considered as one of the closest people to a wife.
Secondly, media should give exposure to women on the importance of breastfeeding through social

towards women who feed their babies with maternal milk because public s perception has made
most of the women feel ashamed and do not have the confidence to breastfeed their infants

Research Paper On Ergonomics
1. Introduction
Ergonomics is an interdisciplinary field of study that seeks to design tools and equipment for
optimizing the interface between humans and systems [1]. Ergonomics is also known as the
process of understanding and improving human communications with types of products, equipment,
environments, and systems. Ergonomics principles are used to improve the fit between the worker
and the workplace. Targets for ergonomics improvement are divided into two broad categories
which are physical issues, such as reaches and exertion, and cognitive issues, such as mental
overload and confusing displays [2].
Many theories, principles, methods, and data relevant to the workstation design have been
generated through ergonomics research over the years. Poor workstation design can lead to
fatigued, frustrated, and hurting workers [3]. As a result, the productivity of the product and quality
will decrease [4].
Often in an industry, the workstation is designed in an arbitrary manner [1], giving little
consideration to the anthropometric measurements of the anticipated user. Small changes in
workstation dimension can have a considerable impact on worker productivity, and occupational
health and safety. Inadequate posture from an improperly designed workstation causes static

The demographics of protesters are widely varied, representing the racial breakdown of the
country almost perfectly. Those that are engaged in the public outcry but are not directly

solidarity refers to the ties in a society that bind individuals as one group. Г‰mile Durkheim
defines it as a social cohesion that is based on the dependence individuals on one another

Mechanical solidarity is largely based on social cohesion stemming from the homogeneity of
individuals. People form bonds through having similar lifestyles, and those lifestyles are often
based on the kinship ties of familial networks. This would be the type of solidarity more likely to
be undertaken between members the African American community in this situation. Organic
solidarity is generally found in more complex and less homogenous social circles. In this type of
solidarity bonds are formed based on interdependence among complementary members of a social

Before plodding full steam ahead, it would behoove us to pin down some important definitions and
qualifiers. First the term emerging church. In 2006, at a lecture at Westminster Seminary, Scot
McKnight proffered that, there is no emerging church ...it is a movement, or a conversation. This
statement, now nearly a decade old was made in an attempt to clarify to his audience that emerging
/emergent в‰ denomination . This clarified distinction still stands; however as time has gone by,
the aforementioned conversation as well as the term emergent itself have experienced some
emergence. Indeed, there are now some churches that would willingly self identify (or allow
others to take the liberty of identifying them) in such a manner. More often than not, however, they
would also (and preferably, I might add) identify themselves as missional . (More on that in a bit).
Emerging churches have several characteristics that make them similar to one another in some
respects. But first, let s discuss what they are not. They are not a theological movement, and
therefore do not hold in common a defined set of doctrinal beliefs or confessional statements. They
are, however, theological in the sense that they are all about having conversation (as they like to
put it) about Christian faith, mission and praxis in the context of the core classical Christian creeds.
In true post modernist style, they are willing to discuss the relevance, veracity and need for

Examples Of Altruism In I Am Legend
Even though selflessness will always be driven by serving one s values, feelings, or desires which
is ultimately serving you, altruism does exist. Altruism exists when it requires a person to sacrifice
for another without consideration of personal gain because not every act has a selfish motive.
People must learn to contribute to life through objective reality because it universalizes existence.
Everyday life is filled with small acts of altruism. Or maybe altruism does involve being self
interested after all. Some of the things that one does do not always mean they are selfish. Let s
use the movie, I am Legend starring Will Smith as an example. Robert Neville (Will Smith) lives in
New York and although he had the chance to leave with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be honest, I know my essay is crap. I completely suck at philosophy and I don t know many
things. But I do know that being altruistic means also being selfish. Third world countries
probably view America as an altruistic hero because they basically help fight wars for other
people. But as Arundhati Roy said, Wars are never fought for altruistic reasons. Yes, soldiers do
sacrifice their lives fighting, but it s not (mostly) because they are altruistic, but because it s
their way of paying rent . The definition of altruism is the belief in or practice of disinterested and
selfless concern for the well being of others. But think about it, while helping others, don t you
also help yourself? Like you can say, hey I am going to help at a homeless shelter because I feel
altruistic today. A part of you is lying to yourself; you are going to a homeless shelter because
yes, you feel like helping others, but you are also helping yourself feel good, which is an act of
being self interested. The reason why people help others is because it makes them feel good. It
can vary anything from relieving stress to feeling guilty for something so they do something nice,
like help others, which makes them believe they have a higher chance of going to heaven. Other
people help others to be seen as a hero although none of these examples are true definition of the
existence of

He left the job to serve himself at a time when it was considered stupid to leave the certainty of a
colonial job for the uncertainty of private enterprise. The result was the establishment of a small
family business (with his wife) now known as ELIZADE NIGERIA LIMITED.
HOW THE BUSINESS WAS ESTABLIHED
His Start up funding: Chief Michael Ade Ojo did not make it that easily; he started with the little
money he was able to save at the time he was working combined with the help from his wife.
Registration of the business: In 1968, he registered a business name Known as Elizade Trading

The Theory Of Multiple Intelligences Theory
What is intelligence? Is it how well an individual can excel at academic tasks, emotional tasks, or
physical tasks? Can intelligence be measure scientifically and accurately or is it an abstract idea or
concept that requires an individual to critically think and come up with an answer? A common
interpretation of intelligenceis the ability or abilities of an individual s capacity for: logic, emotion,
abstract, learning, planning, understanding, memory, self awareness, creativity, and most important
of all is the ability to problem solved. Intelligence itself is an umbrella with subtypes under it, and
the one to inquire about is the theory of multiple intelligences. Many scientists believe that this
theory does not exist because it cannot be proven scientifically but multiple intelligence theory
does exist. Multiple intelligences is not a teaching style as many seem to believe, but it is a new
way to look at the IQ of an individual while not being bounded by the traditional IQ tests. Just like
general intelligences theory, the multiple intelligence theory can be used to distinguish intelligences
through tests, logically define theory, as well as real world experiences and applications. These two
theories, multiple and general intelligence, has been debated time and time again in the field of
psychology but with no absolute solution.
The theory of multiple intelligences was originated by Howard E. Gardner and was publicized in
1983 in his book, Frames of Mind: The Theory of

China s Emergence as a Superpower
The 19th century belonged to the British. The 20th century belonged to the United States. But the

China s population is one of the greatest natural resources on the planet. Its citizens are becoming
more educated, diligent, aspiring and comprise nearly a quarter of the world s population. The
combination of China s massive size and rapid modernization is creating the framework for an
emerging superpower. China s growing economy is not only gaining international prestige, but its
confidence has soared as it continues to be the world s fastest growing economy for the past three

Simple reasoning shows the correlation between productivity and economic growth. The Asian
value of saving and investing rather than wasting money on western hobbies such as drunkenness
as stated by Mark Twain, is very essential for economic growth. The idea of savings has allowed
China to stray away from debt, and ultimately can be applied to understanding China s trade
surplus1 of $202 billion with the United States. This number is more than just a numerical value
when applied to the United States trade deficit1 of $725.8 billion. This surplus depicts the savings
and investments of the Chinese and how both have allowed for not only rapid growth of capital
stock, but also the shift from the traditional agricultural sector to a more modern sector, which
ultimately advocates economic growth. As noted by the Center for Strategic and International
Studies, and the Institute for International Economics , Domestic savings have been more than
sufficient to finance the high level of capital formation that has characterized the last three
decades of economic growth. Furthermore, the United States has a savings1 rate of zero, whereas
China s savings1 rate is 34%. The last attribute of the Chinese people with respect to

Continuities And Changes In The Tang Dynasty
China has experienced several changes and evolutions throughout the centuries, though some of the
most marked and influential changes stem from the transitionary period of the Tang dynasty to the
Song dynasty. These changes, which include the re definition of gendered space, the rise of the
scholar s status and the prominence of Neo Confucianism(among other things) were not only
political and economic evolutions, but also cultural shifts that would later characterize Chinese
history. Let us begin by examining Neo Confucianism. While the Tang dynastybegan with a
widespread practice of Confucianism, Buddhismbecame the preferred philosophy or religion after

With the return of Confucian ideals, and the rise of literati scholars, women began to dress
differently. They would use clothing, hair and makeup to draw attention to the differences between
genders, often attributed to the fact that literati scholars had a more feminine appearance. This
attempt to differentiate genders was taken to the extreme with the introduction of footbinding. This
practice created the idea that a woman with small feet was delicate, diminutive and beautiful, which
followed the already pre set notion that beauty was in part because of demureness and attentiveness
(s.t.g. 38 41). Not only that, but by changing a woman s foot, men were able to physically render
women different than them, while also making it more difficult (painful) to leave their inner sphere
within the home. Overall, the changes that led to Neo Confucianism, the rise of literati status and
the re definition of gendered space were some of the key elements during the transition to the Song
dynasty. These new changes resulted in a focus on the refined and the rationale. The Chinese
empire no longer favoured strength, but rather intelligence and beauty. These newly introduced
qualities would be valued throughout the Song and into following

Wild Swans Chapter Summary

However, just how much of the actual truth is revealed? Could there be more than just the truth
laying beneath the surface? These questions are often pondered upon by the reader, yet very few
books are able reveal truths that astounds the world. The book Wild Swans: Three Daughters of

actually lived under the reign of Mao and this book provides the knowledge, This book is a
factual memoir in which incorporates the hidden history of China. Before the reading of the
book, many would not have thought of Mao as a tyrant. Particularly the natives of China are
informed little about the negative aspects of Mao. Even today, his picture still looks down on
the Tiananmen Square in Beijing. This book also interpreted in the changes of women s lives.
Women were basically products of trade with little to no rights back then, just like Yu Fan. She
was offered to General Xue as a concubine for fortune by her father and she had no rights to ask
General Xue of his matters. Slowly it progressed to where women could participate in
government, just like De Hong who held provincial position. Wild Swans is a book worth to be

Notes On The Great Leap Forward Movement Essay
Arun Mohan
Mid Term Exam
Part I: Term Identification Questions (explain the following terms): 10 points each
1.The Great Leap Forward Movement: This is one of the new units of collective identity which was
integrated into society through widespread communization movements in the place of the authority
of traditional collective entities. This movement embodied industrialization and collectivization. In
essence it was an attempt by Mao to achieve the technical and economic development of China at a
quicker rate to catch up with the United States and Britain. It even led to the establishment of
Peoples Communes.
2.Four Cardinal Principles in the Chinese constitution: These principles portray the vital
components of Chinese communist ideology. Deng Xiaoping introduced these principles in 1979,
and they promote the ideas of preserving the socialist path, upholding the people s democratic
dictatorship, preserving the leadership of the Communist party of China, and finally the notion of
maintenance of Marxism Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought.
3.Hydraulic society: A hydraulic society is a society which relies on water control and a
hydraulic or large scale irrigation system in the strive to keep the droughts and floods under
control. This gave rise to the idea of a despotic state, which is ideally a despotic form of
government.

Effects Of British Occupation
The British empire compromised everything ruled or administered by the United Kingdom and its
predecessor states. The overseas possessions/territories and trading posts was established by
England in the late 16th centuries and the early 18th centuries. When it was at its greatest, it was
the largest empire in history and also the foremost global power. The empire was controlling over a
fifth of the world s total land area. After the British empirelost its colonies in North America, they
turned towards Asia, Africa, and the pacific. One of the territories they occupied later on was
Hong Kong, who was going to be under control by British occupation from 1841 until the end of

The people could feel it by getting better infrastructure, expansion of houses/more inhabitants, more
types of trading goods/luxury items, and safety from outside forces because of the British empire s
promise. A downside with this would be the two opium wars, where the Lin dynasty was trying to
end the opium trade into China. This caused several deaths (most on the Qing China side). It also
caused trouble for the international trading, since the Chinese was trying to boycott the trading.
The British occupation improved the politics in Hong Kong. During the first opium war, Elliot
negotiated with Lin s successor. Qishan. This treaty was to be named the treaty of Nanking, which
included the cession of the Hong Kong island and its harbor to the British imperial crown. The
treaty failed to please the British empire because of their expectations of making a major expansion
of trade and profit. After a variety of smaller conflicts, Palmerston (foreign secretary) appointed
Lord Elgin as plenipotentiary with the aim of securing a new and satisfactory treaty with the
Chinese. The occupation of Beijing and the capture of the Taku Forts led to the convention of
Peking (an agreement compromising three distinct treaties concluded between the Qing empire

Portrayal Of Women In Sport
From all corners of the globe, news headlines are becoming much more attentive to the issues
surrounding women in sport. Female athletes are gaining more notoriety in the sports arena.
However, the attention they are receiving, usually pertains to their appearance, rather than their
skill. Further, they are continuously being over sexualized and objectified and for these reasons,
there is a need for sweeping change in the representation of female athletes in the media. This
paper will discuss the portrayal of female athletes in the media, the coverage that women in sport
receive, the current impacts that media has on women in sports, and what measures can be
undertaken to curtail the current trend of the media. Starting with how women are portrayed in
media, Trolan (2013) states that in today s society, individuals are shown magazines, newspapers,
and television programs with articles and photographs, of what it means to be a woman or man
(Trolan, 215). This is remarkably obvious when discussing the world of sport. Although women
have achieved a somewhat higher level of respect in the everyday world, within the sporting world,
they are still viewed as women first and athletes second (Trolan, 215). Krane, Choi, Baird, Aimar,
and Kauer (2004) also articulate that women participating in sport live in two extremely separate
cultures: the sporting culture and the culture in which they face the continual battle between being
an athlete and being a woman. Being viewed as

Lytic Granule Convergence Essay
Lytic granule convergence to the MTOC following activation does not guarantee cytotoxicity in NK
cells (Mentlik et al., 2010). Thus, convergence could represent a regulatory step to centrally localize
the lytic granules to ensure that the NK cells do not undergo degranulation until granules are
delivered by the MTOC to the correct synapse where their contents can be secreted without causing
collateral damage. Thus, lytic granule convergence is a mechanism to protect healthy surrounding
cells in a complex tissue from being destroyed by the NK cell while making sure that only the
diseased cell is targeted at the synapse. Lytic granule convergence still occurs even if microtubules
are stabilized or F actin reorganization is inhibited. This shows that convergence can occur before
the MTOC is reoriented to the synapse. The movement of lytic granules along microtubules has
been shown to be dynein dependent, thus demonstrating dynein as a minus ended microtubule
motor for lytic granules, suggesting that dynein directly moves the granules along microtubules
toward the MTOC (Mentlik et al., 2010).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
TCR signal strength has been described to localize lytic granules to specific regions within the

granules that are pre formed in NK cells. The dynein mediated lytic granule transport along

Diomedes In The Odyssey
In Homer s, The Iliad, the intensity and seriousness of the war between the Trojans and the
Greeks, known as the Achaeans, is best represented in his epic simile in Book 6, lines 170 175.
In this simile Homer describes Glaucus response to his encounter with Diomedes: High hearted
son of Tydeus, why ask about my birth? Like the generation of leaves, the lives of mortal men.
Now the wind scatters the old leaves across the earth, now the living timber bursts with the new
buds and spring comes round again. And so with men: as one generation comes to life, another
dies away...(6. 170 175) During the conversation, Diomedes is fighting for the Achaeans against
the Trojans at full force. Kill after kill, nothing seems to be stopping Diomedes at this point in the
war, until he suddenly encounters a warrior for the Trojans that he has not noticed before. This
prompts Diomedes to ask the Trojan ally about his background in order to determine whether he
will kill him as well. In the epic simile, Glaucus first describes Diomedes as high hearted, because

of life. Just like the life of leaves, there will be a time where it is time to cripple and fall in order
for new generation of leaves to come. An implication of the epic simile given by Glaucus, becomes
an approach of emotional persuasion for Diomedes to rethink about his decision to kill Glaucus.

Problems Associated with Drought in Africa, and Proposed...
Africa is a continent that suffers from many problems in many areas. The name of the continent has

reasons such as violence in most African countries, corruption that is rooted in the majority of
African governments and stagflation which puts the continent in the mouth of hunger and

and grazing (African ecology, 1990). In addition, many observers believe that the drought is the
origin of all the African crises (Brown, 2006). Over the history of the continent, different tribes
and races have fought over water sources , which lead some times to genocides (Scott, 2005, p5)
For example, the conflict in Darfur between the Sudanese government backed militia and rebels,
which has left more than 300000 dead is mainly due to drought. This problem can be solved partly
or even totally by the provision of water (Block, 2010). Global warming is mainly produced by the
industrial countries. There is growing evidence that shows the steady

Introduction
Background Henry Ford
Founded in 1903, Henry Ford managed to get investor support to open the first manufacturing
automobile company in Detroit, Michigan. Ford Motor Company has been known for its mass
production of vehicles using a perfected assembly line method and its innovations in the
automobile industry. Ford s famous Model T was developed as an innovative automobile that
could be produced quickly, while keeping the cost to a minimum. This allowed people with a
lower income the opportunity to afford an automobile. One of the biggest changes in the
automobile industry occurred in 1913 with the introduction of a perfected assembly line method.
This assembly line method was the one of the main reasons Ford Motor Company was able to
keep the cost of vehicles and the production time to a minimum. Ford also took the first step to
increase wages of their employees above the industry standard. Although it was still a very low
value, Ford offered $5 per day which was a huge improvement from the $2.34 per day that most
companies offered.
By the 1930 s Ford was a primary target of the United Automobile Workers (UAW) union to
increase wages and working conditions. Despite attempts by Henry Ford to keep the Unions out of
the company, the Supreme Court rulings forced Ford to work with the UAW. Another sentence....

Examples Of Abigail Williams In The Crucible
Abigail Williams: A Despicable Person In the 17 century those who practiced the Devil s magic
were executed in Gallows Hill. In the spring of 1692, three girls by the names of Abigail
Williams, Betty Parris, and Mary Warren accused a numerous amount of Puritans with the
practice of witchcraft. In The Crucible, Abigail harms many people of Salem. Her affair with
Proctor causes her to believe that she is in love with him. She plans to get rid of her by casting a
death spell, so she can have Proctor to herself. However, when that does not work Abigail accuses
Elizabeth of being a witch. Abigail Williams is the most despicable person in The Crucible
because she is revengeful, manipulative, and a liar. Through her actions, the reader can tell that a
despicable person is someone who hides the truth. Abigail Williams is out to seek revenge to those
who have mistreated her.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her first lie is when her uncle, Reverend Parris, asks her what really happened in the woods the
night Betty went into the fit. Abigail claims that we did dance, uncle... And there s the whole of
it (Miller 9). This tells us that Abigail told Parris that she and the girls only danced in the woods,
but as the reader continues to read forward they will realize that Abigail was lying like a
demagogue. Abigail insisted that they only danced, yet Betty says Abigail drank a charm to kill
Elizabeth. She evidently lies about practicing witchcraft. Abigail also lies when she accuses
Tituba of bewitching her. She says She sends her spirit on me in church... She comes to me every
night to go and drink blood (Miller 41). The preceding sentence tells the reader that Abigail is
lying. She is trying to protect the fact that she is the one who was practicing witchcraft. In order to
save herself from being executed she lies by accusing others of her involvement in witchcraft. She
hides the truth by telling a lie making her a despicable

Evaluation of Baumol s Model
Introduction Generally in business, there is a trade off between selling many units at a low price
and selling only a few units at a high price. There are different managerial models in a firm
embodying different assumptions like the Profit Maximization Model which is a traditional model,
the Marris Model, the Williamson Model and the Baumol Model. This write up will focus on
understanding management preferences in terms of price, revenue and profit maximization,
critically evaluate the management model of Baumol and review the extent to which the Baumol
model provides a more useful insight into pricing and output decisions of modern management....

In this respect, certain characteristics are identifiable about the internal and external processes
involved for organizations within such markets. Baumol recognizes that since it is large
organizations that are most likely to be competitors within an oligopoly, then the chains of control
and decision making are likely to be elongated. It is therefore considered that more likely that it will
take longer to arrive at and implement decisions within such organizations than within smaller
competitors. Within the market, it is claimed that there is tacit collusion between organizations to
maintain the status quo. These incumbents, once the oligopoly has settled down into an equilibrium
position, are able to enjoy a quiet life and split the profits between them. Additionally, there may be
a general lack of interest on the part of organizations to compete in their markets unless actions are
undertaken by others to upset the current situation. Other justifications for the sales revenue
maximization model include: The imposition of a minimum profit constraint on management by
shareholders ensures that their concerns are met, while it would be more difficult to set and
measure a maximum requirement. Increasing level of sales are

Persuasive Essay On Electric Cars
Ever wished you could chop the cost of car ownership and slash away at your fuel bills? Most of
us can do it with electric cars, but here s of the finest and most expensive electric car options
available today. When the electric car first put tires to pavement, we already knew some luxury
brands would want to push the envelope to make it faster, grander and gold plated. Here are
some of the most expensive electric car choices. ( removed HTML ) Rimac Concept One $1

car does more than window dress with overpriced ornaments, and almost every element of the
design comes back to your return on investment. In fact, the Rimac Concept One might just be
the best hypercar on the planet! This car growls with more than four wheel drive, and you have
four wheel torque to tweak the on board computers and make your car over steer or under steer. Not
only does it win the hearts of every tech geek, the Rimac Concept One screams down the pavement
from zero to 60 in 2.8 seconds don t blink. In addition, you will hit 125 miles per hour in 6.2
seconds, and the cars tops out speeds at 227 miles per hour. For an electric car, that s impressively

Modeled Reading Through Shared Reading
Modeled reading is often explained as the process of reading aloud, such as a teacher reading
aloud to students or students reading aloud to each other (Sipe, 2002). However, the modelling
process of the balanced literacy philosophy should be more than simply a teacher reading aloud to
students or students readingaloud to each other as a class. Instead, modelling should involve
teachers demonstrating the action of engaging with a text. For example, a teacher might engage in
modelling by showing students the cover to a book and explaining how he or she can predictions
about the content of the book from the cover, or readingthe table of contents to gain some
understanding of the information to be presented (Duke Pearson, 2002). Shared reading is the
process of teachers and students engaging in shared reading activities as a way of teachers
beginning to give students more independence and responsibility in reading instruction (Wall,
2014). For example, once a teacher has modeled making predictions from the cover or table or
contents of a book, he or she might ask students to make predictions about the content of a book or

reading process, but then gives some responsibility to students as he or she asks the students to
engage in the same behaviors that are being modeled as part of shared reading. During guided
reading, the teacher gives more responsibility to the students when they are asked to engage in
finding words in texts and creating meaning from those texts. Finally, almost all responsibility is
given to the students as they read on their

Examples Of Dialect In Beowulf
Dialects of OE
Four main dialects were spoken in Anglo Saxon England:
Kentish
The speech of the Jutes that was mainly used in present day Kent. Few works written in this dialect
remain.
West Saxon
It was spoken in the region south of the Thames (southern and southwestern England). This area
was mainly settled by West Saxons, so this dialect soon became known as Wessex. Most of the OE
corpus is written in this dialect and the reason for this is the fact that this kingdom became the
leading political and cultural force under King Alfred at the end of the 9th century.
Mercian

The Causes of the Industrial Revolution Essay
The Causes of the Industrial Revolution
The causes of the Industrial Revolution were complex and remain a topic for debate, with some
historians seeing the Revolution as an outgrowth of social and institutional changes wrought by the
end of feudalism in Great Britain after the English Civil War in the 17th century. The Enclosure
movement and the British Agricultural Revolution made food production more efficient and less
labor intensive, forcing the surplus population who could no longer find employment in agriculture
into the cities to seek work in the newly developed factories. The colonial expansion of the 17th
century with the accompanying development of international trade, creation of financial markets and
accumulation of capital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Great Britain emerged from the Napoleonic Wars as the only European nation not ravaged by
financial plunder and economic collapse, as well as possessing the only merchant fleet of any
useful size (European merchant fleets having been destroyed during the war by the Royal Navy).
The United Kindom s extensive exporting cottage industries also ensured markets were already
open for many forms of early manufactured goods. The nature of conflict in the period resulted in
most British warfare being conducted overseas, reducing the devastating effects of territorial
conquest affecting much of Europe. This was further aided by Britain s geographical position an
island separated from the rest of mainland Europe.
Another theory believes that Great Britain was able to succeed in the Industrial Revolution due
to the availability of key resources it processed. It had a dense population for its small
geographical size. Enclosure of common land and the related Agricultural revolution made a
supply of this labour readily available. There was also a local coincidence of natural resources in
the North of England , the English Midlands, South Wales and the Scottish Lowlands. Local

Essay about Macroeconomics
You may have already studied microeconomics, which looks at supply, demand and prices for
individual goods. Macroeconomics looks at the bigger picture and involves the study of the
economy as a whole.
National income
Let us start by looking at a simple example a
two sector economy made up of households
(consumers) and firms (producers) and use this to develop the idea of national income. To start with
we will ignore the impact of government policy and overseas sectors.
Households ultimately own the factors of production, e.g., labour, materials and capital, and supply
these factors to firms who use them to produce goods and services. In return households earn
rewards for supplying the firms with the factors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model will use the following definitions: Consumption (C) consumption goods produced and
sold to customers i.e., the chairs.
Savings (S) income that is not spent on consumption. Investment (I) production of, or expenditure
on, non consumption goods (carried out by firms) including expenditure on increasing stocks of
consumption goods.
Injections expenditure on domestic output not originating from consumers e.g., investment.
Leakages income not spent on consumption of domestic output e.g., savings.
Consumers will not spend all their income on goods and services. They will also have savings
income not spent on consumption. Similarly producers will not just spend on producing goods but
will also carry out investment expenditure on non consumption goods.
There are therefore injections into (investment) and leakages from (savings) the circular flow.
These injections and leakages can now be added to the circular flow model (see Figure 2)
Figure 2
Notes to Figure 2
In this model the income earned by households (Y) must be equal to expenditure on purchasing
national product (E). Output of consumption goods by firms equals consumption expenditure by
household s (C). Note that households do not spend all their income instead they save (S) a leakage.
Expenditure on non consumption goods by firms is investment (I) an injection.
Income (Y) = Expenditure (E)

Emergency Contraception Research Paper
Emergency contraception (EC), also known as postcoital contraception or the morning after pill, is
a drug taken after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. This drug uses hormones to prevent the
ovaries from releasing eggs, prevent sperm from fertilizing an egg, or chemically alter the lining of
the uterus to prevent fertilized eggs from implanting. When taken within seventy two hours of
unprotected sex, EC is believed to be 90 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. Although EC
meets the legal and medical definition of a contraceptive (as opposed to an abortifacient, or a drug
that induces abortion), some opponents believe that it constitutes a form of abortion, as the pills
may potentially be taken after fertilization. Progestin only EC... Show more content on

Conscience clauses are legal clauses that allow health care workers to refuse to provide certain
services to which they have a religious or moral objection. Most conscience clauses that apply to
pharmacists were originally created for use in situations where they have reason to believe that
patients might use medications to cause harm to themselves or others. Conscience clauses became a
significant issue during the 1960s, after the development of hormone contraceptives, also known as
birth control pills. Some pharmacists were reluctant to distribute birth control medication for
religious or moral reasons, leading several pharmaceutical companies and organizations to develop
guidelines specific to contraceptives. Shortly after the development of the birth control pill,
scientists began developing hormonal treatments that could be taken after unprotected sex to
prevent pregnancy. The first successful form of EC was called the Yuzpe regimen after its
developer, obstetrician A. Albert Yuzpe. In 1997, the FDA approved EC for prescription use in the
United States. Antiabortion groups protested this, arguing that they considered EC to be an
abortifacient, or a form of chemical

Nearly five hundred years ago, Jacque Cariter set sail on an expedition for King Louis I to find

. However it was Samuel de Champlian, one hundred years later, to truly claim the land for
France and to establish a permanent capitol of New France, QuГ©bec city. It remained so for a
century and a half, expanding in agriculture, population, and territory and establishing a french
colonial administration. However during the Seven Year War France was forced to sign the

Generation Of Nurses
The differences between men and women in the unit that I work in is more by age than by grouped
by sex. The older generation of nurses seems to work more independently then be younger
generations. The older nurses are more solitary and do not embrace team nursing. The younger
generation nurses tend to work as team members and have a group belonging mentality. They
patients are the unit s patients and everyone has to work together. The older nurses own their
patients, and no one should touch them.
The older nurses are considered from the Baby Boomer generation and are typically in the fifties
and sixties (Borkowski, 2011 p. 39). These nurses tend to be long term employees who stay with
tradition and have a hard working attitude (Borkowski, 2011). The younger nurses would be in the
Generation X and Millennial age grouping, who tend to be less formal and have a more casual
relationship with their employer (Borkowski, 2011, P. 39). The different generations present unique
management challenges when handling the group s needs.
The additional difference is that the older generation of nurses is there for longevity celebrating 20
and 30 years with the hospital. The newer generation nurses are beefing up their resumes and are
leaving on a monthly basis. The younger generation is always looking for the next experience, the

Is Activity Based Costing ( Abc ) Essay
The first cost system of this part of this essay is activity based costing (ABC). Cooper and Kaplan
(1988) implemented ABC for taking care of issues of Traditional costing frameworks.
For allocating costs, Tradtional costing uses a single number like the machine hours or the direct
labour hour, also cost allocations are volume based. Comparing ABC with Traditional Costing
Systems, ABC include all activities for a product, to making it easier to more accurately measure
and allocate costs (Cooper, 1990; Cokins, Strat ton, Helbling, 1993).
It moves away from assigning costs to individual products but rather to activities or processes,
which allows for assigning a larger part of overhead costs to specific cost units (Cooper Kaplan,
1988; Friedman Lyne, 1997).
Also important to know is that ABC define all the company activities as value adding or non
value adding activities (Cooper Kaplan, 2005). Non value added activities create waste, result in
postponement, add expenses to the items, or for which cost clients are not willing to pay. ABC
helps an association in discovering chances to streamline or lessen the expenses, or wipes out the
whole movement, particularly if there is no esteem added viewpoint to it (Drury, 2012).
Many have the believe that ABC is better than Traditional Costing because ABC say more about
the driven costs, and can split on any single activity and receives so more accurate cost details
(Akyol, Tuncel, Bayhan, 2007; Kee, 1995). As per this,

The Civil Rights Movement And The Civil Rights Movement
The 60 s was a platform for all kinds of cultural revolution. Two of these included the Civil Rights
and anti war Vietnam movements which both emerged at the same time that the Cold War
unfolded. Both of these movements overlapped in numerous ways; they both struggled with the
government trying to silence them to keep an image, with media distortion, not having a clear main
focus, and more. They both related political struggles to domestic ones.
The focus is on two things. The first being the look at the Civil Rights movement under the heat of
the Cold Warand how it affected the movement. The second thing is the anti war Vietnam protests
and how the Civil Rights movement partially contributed to that. It s a look at how both of these
movements were ties from political struggles to domestic struggles. A look at the interactions of
both these movements during their struggles.
The Cold War was a time of high tensions between the Soviet Union and the United Stateswhich
consequently served a purpose in the Civil Rights movement as well. The spotlight directed
towards America forced the government to create a pristine image of America to maintain the
idea that they were capable of being leaders. As Mary L. Dudziak states in Cold War Civil
Rights: Race and the Image of American Democracy, The federal government engaged in a
sustained effort to tell a particular story about race and American democracy: a story of progress, a
story of the triumph of good over evil, a story of

  • 2. The Energy Crisis Of Josh Fox s Documentary, Gasland, And... The menace and lucrativeness of the energy crisis in the United States combined with the egregious aftereffects correlated with natural gas extraction makes the subject of hydraulic fracturing a very high stakes issue. Given the topic, the implications of Josh Fox s documentary, Gasland, are as high stakes as could be expected. According to Fox s claims in Gasland, the price of not believing his accusations is too steep to ignore. After the documentary came out in 2010 (IMDb), the industry that Fox sought to condemn agreed that the cost was high, but the consequences for them were opposite: if the public believed Fox s claims and mobilized against fracking, a multi billion dollar industry stood to collapse (Carroll). So how could a mere movie be so threatening? More importantly, where are the chinks in its armor? At the University of California Berkeley, The Craft of Research, is so highly sought after by undergraduate students and their teachers, that professors warn students to snag their copy of the revered book as soon as possible, before the campus bookstore inevitably runs out. In it, budding research writers are warned about the consequences of insufficient evidence. The tome warns that the problem of sufficient evidence is even worse when readers resist your solution because they have a stake in a different one (Booth 142). Since Fox s solution basically leaves no room for fracking to continue in a profitable manner, the natural gas industry definitely has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Economic Policies Of El Salvador And Other Nations Essay Dollarization: A Comparison of Economic Policies in El Salvador and Other Nations Dollarization is the process in which nations replace their domestic currencies [with foreign legal tender] ...to obtain economic growth and stability (Rivera Solis 330). The US dollar is the most common choice of exchange in this practice, though the adoption of other first world states currencies may be entertained as well. Though its effects are not instant, US dollarization has brought many gradual benefits to the economic statuses of several countries. There are two types of dollarization: official and unofficial. In the process of official dollarization, a state gives complete monetary control to a foreign nation, ceding its right to both create a central bank and issue a domestic form of currency. Where as a nation loses its sovereignty to make decisions concerning its money supply in official dollarization, unofficial dollarization allows states to keep most of its control in place. Nations who implement dollarization unofficially keep their ability to own a central bank to fall back on, in cases of economic emergency, and regulate their own currency. Some studies encourage the promotion of official dollarization, while other scorn it s outcome and option for its slighter counterpart, partial dollarization, instead. This paper explores the differences in both policies and the effects of dollarization on four separate nations: El Salvador, Panama, Zimbabwe, and the British Virgin ... • 4. West Jest vs Air Canada Essay How serious is the threat from conventional airlines that want to imitate the westjet culture? What does it take to imitate organizational culture? Can Air Canada compete against westjet s employee productivity and its relationship with its employees? Ever since its establishment in 1996, WestJet has aimed to operate as a low cost carrier while employing non unionized members in a unique organizational culture. In its simplest form this unique organizational culture can be labeled as a labor managed firm. In a labor managed firm employees are owners, and they are affected by the company s performance through profit sharing. Then it should not be surprising that in labor managed firms, the employees can voice their opinions and actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A labor force in its most basic form, through profit maximizing practices, must be minimized, due to the cost associated with it, in order to drive up profit. And it is because of this outlook that WestJet has managed to outperform their competition, for example Air Canada. This theory is in sync with the findings of Jeffery Pfeffer in his 1995 paper Producing sustainable competitive advantage through the effective management of people. As described above, the organizational culture, the foundation of WestJet s success, is heavily weighted on its people. Where as the competition, sees the workforce as a cost and aims to minimize it, WestJet looks at their work force as an asset and an investment. Conventional airlines run their business as any other company. They look out for the shareholder s best interest and do not pay the slightest attention to their workforce. In WestJet s culture, the workforce consists of the shareholders due to profit sharing and co operative environment. By nature capital managed firms will have a hard time converting to labor managed firm. They will have to change a lot of rules and regulations that governs their everyday operations. They will face a large number of opposition by their shareholders. According to Fernandez Guadano (2009) even if they do manage to adopt similar practices as labor managed firms, they will never be able to achieve the same rate of employee ownership and profit sharing as their counterparts, ... However, the beginnings of the Cold War saw increased tension between the USA and the USSR and the capitalist and communist ideologies. These clashes along with the rise of nuclear power contributed to a tense and fearful atmosphere, giving rise to a period of McCarthyism. This saw communist witch hunts and people accused and prosecuted for sympathising with the left political economic model. Synopsis Of Storytelling Games Alex Ingles Dr. Liane Ritchey Sillet AWR 201 A 6/12/2016 Thesis: Storytelling in games gives the gamers the opportunity to be involved in the game, experience the characters, stimulate feelings like fear and excitement and let the player know they make situations happen and the choices they make affect the outcome as well as motivate them to continue on. Background: After reading parts of The Storytelling Animal, it was clear that storytelling is in everything. As an avid videogame player it was evident that many of the games that people play, like Battlefield, have a storyline. After reading articles from the Proquest database like From Computer Games to Interactive stories, a plan was developing about games and stories. Other thoughts on the thesis were whether video games have stories and traits of their own and should these games have a storyline, especially since it is a game. After researching and a discussion about this topic with the professor, it was decided to do the first thesis idea. The topic is extensive in gaming articles and magazines. Gamers on both sides have an opinion. It seemed that most of the articles read dealt with stories and games rather than just gameplay. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let Lennie live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George s best friend whom he took care of all the time because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his friend be tortured and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George would choose to take the law into his own hands. Lastly, Lennie would have been shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him Lennie would have died in fear and that is exactly what George did not want to happen. Csrlson had also wanted to shoot Lennie and Geroge might have remembered Carlson shooting Candy s dog and after candy saying I ought to have shot the dog myself . Lennie was so big that he unaware of his strengths and he could have hurt someone else again or he could have put his own life in jeopardy as well. Ergonomics is also known as the process of understanding and improving human communications with types of products, equipment, environments, and systems. Ergonomics principles are used to improve the fit between the worker and the workplace. Targets for ergonomics improvement are divided into two broad categories which are physical issues, such as reaches and exertion, and cognitive issues, such as mental overload and confusing displays [2]. This statement, now nearly a decade old was made in an attempt to clarify to his audience that emerging /emergent в‰ denomination . This clarified distinction still stands; however as time has gone by, the aforementioned conversation as well as the term emergent itself have experienced some emergence. More often than not, however, they would also (and preferably, I might add) identify themselves as missional . (More on that in a bit). Emerging churches have several characteristics that make them similar to one another in some respects. But first, let s discuss what they are not. They are not a theological movement, and therefore do not hold in common a defined set of doctrinal beliefs or confessional statements. But I do know that being altruistic means also being selfish. Third world countries probably view America as an altruistic hero because they basically help fight wars for other people. But as Arundhati Roy said, Wars are never fought for altruistic reasons. Yes, soldiers do sacrifice their lives fighting, but it s not (mostly) because they are altruistic, but because it s their way of paying rent . The definition of altruism is the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well being of others. But think about it, while helping others, don t you also help yourself? Like you can say, hey I am going to help at a homeless shelter because I feel altruistic today. A part of you is lying to yourself; you are going to a homeless shelter because yes, you feel like helping others, but you are also helping yourself feel good, which is an act of being self interested. The reason why people help others is because it makes them feel good. This practice created the idea that a woman with small feet was delicate, diminutive and beautiful, which followed the already pre set notion that beauty was in part because of demureness and attentiveness (s.t.g. 38 41). Female athletes are gaining more notoriety in the sports arena. However, the attention they are receiving, usually pertains to their appearance, rather than their skill. Further, they are continuously being over sexualized and objectified and for these reasons, there is a need for sweeping change in the representation of female athletes in the media. This paper will discuss the portrayal of female athletes in the media, the coverage that women in sport receive, the current impacts that media has on women in sports, and what measures can be undertaken to curtail the current trend of the media. Starting with how women are portrayed in media, Trolan (2013) states that in today s society, individuals are shown magazines, newspapers, and television programs with articles and photographs, of what it means to be a woman or man (Trolan, 215). This is remarkably obvious when discussing the world of sport. Although women have achieved a somewhat higher level of respect in the everyday world, within the sporting world, they are still viewed as women first and athletes second (Trolan, 215). Krane, Choi, Baird, Aimar, and Kauer (2004) also articulate that women participating in sport live in two extremely separate cultures: the sporting culture and the culture in which they face the continual battle between being an athlete and being a woman. • 34. Lytic Granule Convergence Essay Lytic granule convergence to the MTOC following activation does not guarantee cytotoxicity in NK cells (Mentlik et al., 2010). Thus, convergence could represent a regulatory step to centrally localize the lytic granules to ensure that the NK cells do not undergo degranulation until granules are delivered by the MTOC to the correct synapse where their contents can be secreted without causing collateral damage. Thus, lytic granule convergence is a mechanism to protect healthy surrounding cells in a complex tissue from being destroyed by the NK cell while making sure that only the diseased cell is targeted at the synapse. Lytic granule convergence still occurs even if microtubules are stabilized or F actin reorganization is inhibited. This shows that convergence can occur before the MTOC is reoriented to the synapse. The movement of lytic granules along microtubules has been shown to be dynein dependent, thus demonstrating dynein as a minus ended microtubule motor for lytic granules, suggesting that dynein directly moves the granules along microtubules toward the MTOC (Mentlik et al., 2010).... Rich in history as well winding roads, and mammoth mountains are often traveled by the fearless, and adventurous traveler. For some, the stumble upon this great beauty is minute and not appreciated, but for others the venture is a state of mind and continues to inspire long after the visit concluded. The Kancamagus Highway evokes the emotion of nostalgia. Entering the area I first noticed the mountains, covered in rugs of green, gold, ember red, and burning orange trees. The mountains were the spines of the land, holding together the whole landscape. Off to a distance shining white pyramids could be seen. The tops of the mountains soared up to the sky and to the heavens as to kiss the stars with the cold peaks. I was just a quiet, minute observer of there glorious range. They stood ghost like, and the only thing bigger then these slumbering giants was my gaze when taking them in. As I turn from the outlook, leaving the booming mountains to my back I notice the trees. Making up this glowing landscape were the burning leaves of the treas. The canopy of color burned with high intensity. Diomedes In The Odyssey In Homer s, The Iliad, the intensity and seriousness of the war between the Trojans and the Greeks, known as the Achaeans, is best represented in his epic simile in Book 6, lines 170 175. In this simile Homer describes Glaucus response to his encounter with Diomedes: High hearted son of Tydeus, why ask about my birth? Like the generation of leaves, the lives of mortal men. Now the wind scatters the old leaves across the earth, now the living timber bursts with the new buds and spring comes round again. And so with men: as one generation comes to life, another dies away...(6. 170 175) During the conversation, Diomedes is fighting for the Achaeans against the Trojans at full force. Kill after kill, nothing seems to be stopping Diomedes at this point in the war, until he suddenly encounters a warrior for the Trojans that he has not noticed before. Large parts in Africa has turned into deserts in a short period; for example, within two decades, around 6700 hectares of forest, which contained different animals such as monkeys, deer and buffalo, have become a barren area (Ogodo, 2006, p2). Indeed, More than 300000 people died because of drought in the Sahel in the seventies (Scott, 2005, p2). The fact that 40% of African income depends on agriculture, and 70% of the African workers are engaged in agriculture means that the drought is certain death to the continent (Scott, 2005, p2). In the future, some believe that around 66% of African space could be dry because of deforestation and grazing (African ecology, 1990). In addition, many observers believe that the drought is the origin of all the African crises (Brown, 2006). Over the history of the continent, different tribes and races have fought over water sources , which lead some times to genocides (Scott, 2005, p5) For example, the conflict in Darfur between the Sudanese government backed militia and rebels, which has left more than 300000 dead is mainly due to drought. Ford Motor Company has been known for its mass production of vehicles using a perfected assembly line method and its innovations in the automobile industry. Ford s famous Model T was developed as an innovative automobile that could be produced quickly, while keeping the cost to a minimum. This allowed people with a lower income the opportunity to afford an automobile. One of the biggest changes in the automobile industry occurred in 1913 with the introduction of a perfected assembly line method. This assembly line method was the one of the main reasons Ford Motor Company was able to keep the cost of vehicles and the production time to a minimum. Ford also took the first step to increase wages of their employees above the industry standard. Although it was still a very low value, Ford offered $5 per day which was a huge improvement from the $2.34 per day that most companies offered. By the 1930 s Ford was a primary target of the United Automobile Workers (UAW) union to increase wages and working conditions. Within the market, it is claimed that there is tacit collusion between organizations to maintain the status quo. These incumbents, once the oligopoly has settled down into an equilibrium position, are able to enjoy a quiet life and split the profits between them. The Enclosure movement and the British Agricultural Revolution made food production more efficient and less labor intensive, forcing the surplus population who could no longer find employment in agriculture into the cities to seek work in the newly developed factories. • 53. Is Activity Based Costing ( Abc ) Essay The first cost system of this part of this essay is activity based costing (ABC). Cooper and Kaplan (1988) implemented ABC for taking care of issues of Traditional costing frameworks. For allocating costs, Tradtional costing uses a single number like the machine hours or the direct labour hour, also cost allocations are volume based. Comparing ABC with Traditional Costing Systems, ABC include all activities for a product, to making it easier to more accurately measure and allocate costs (Cooper, 1990; Cokins, Strat ton, Helbling, 1993). It moves away from assigning costs to individual products but rather to activities or processes, which allows for assigning a larger part of overhead costs to specific cost units (Cooper Kaplan, 1988; Friedman Lyne, 1997). Also important to know is that ABC define all the company activities as value adding or non value adding activities (Cooper Kaplan, 2005). Non value added activities create waste, result in postponement, add expenses to the items, or for which cost clients are not willing to pay. ABC helps an association in discovering chances to streamline or lessen the expenses, or wipes out the whole movement, particularly if there is no esteem added viewpoint to it (Drury, 2012). Many have the believe that ABC is better than Traditional Costing because ABC say more about the driven costs, and can split on any single activity and receives so more accurate cost details (Akyol, Tuncel, Bayhan, 2007; Kee, 1995). Both of these movements overlapped in numerous ways; they both struggled with the government trying to silence them to keep an image, with media distortion, not having a clear main focus, and more. They both related political struggles to domestic ones. The focus is on two things. The first being the look at the Civil Rights movement under the heat of the Cold Warand how it affected the movement. The second thing is the anti war Vietnam protests and how the Civil Rights movement partially contributed to that. It s a look at how both of these movements were ties from political struggles to domestic struggles. A look at the interactions of both these movements during their struggles. The Cold War was a time of high tensions between the Soviet Union and the United Stateswhich consequently served a purpose in the Civil Rights movement as well. The spotlight directed towards America forced the government to create a pristine image of America to maintain the idea that they were capable of being leaders. As Mary L. Dudziak states in Cold War Civil Rights: Race and the Image of American Democracy, The federal government engaged in a sustained effort to tell a particular story about race and American democracy: a story of progress, a story of the triumph of good over evil, a story of ...
