The White Shark, Nekton Project
The White Shark, Nekton Project
The White Shark, also known as the Great White Shark, is one of the most furious predators in the
oceans worldwide. Same as every species, the White Shark is classified into major groups. This is
called taxonomy. The taxonomy for this species is
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Sub Phylum: Vertebrata
Class: Chrondrichthyes
Sub Class: Elasmobranchii
Order: Lamniformes
Family: Lamnidae
Genus: Carcharodon
Species: C. carcharias
The kingdom Animalia means animal. The phylum Chordata includes animals with vertebrates. The
class Chrondrichthyes includes cartilaginous fish, which are fish that has a skeleton made of cartilage
rather than bones. The family Lamnidae includes sharks as the white shark and mackerel sharks.
These sharks are usually very large and can swim really fast. The genus is the group before the species
which includes other sharks that are very similar to the white shark. The species is the last group,
which contains the Latin name of the specific organism. Through taxonomy, scientists are easily able
to identify and classify species.
White sharks are usually found in oceans worldwide. They tend to appear more in cool temperate and
tropical waters. Also, some are usually found near islands with high populations of seals. They spread
throughout the world. Some of the places they are found in are along the coastline of South Africa,
Australia, New Zealand, California to Alaska, Hawaii, the Mediterranean Sea and many more.

Kolya s Characteristic In City Of Thieves By David Benioff
City Of Thieves Author David Benioff of the suspenseful novel, City of Thieves, does a remarkable
job at developing the witty, humorous, brave, and optimistic character known as Kolya. Kolya begins
this novel as an unlikable and unpleasant character but gradually redeems himself by displaying more
admirable traits. Throughout this intriguing novel, despite his arrogance and frequent reckless
behavior, Kolya has proven to be a very likeable and sympathetic character.
Kolya, an alleged deserter of the red army during World War II was first portrayed and thought of by
others as bold and overconfident. With his manacles hands, he managed to push up the left sleeve of
his great coat, the left sleeve of his army sweater, the left sleeve of the ... Show more content on

Throughout the story, it is made evident that Kolya truly does sympathize with Lev. Kolya never
wants Lev to feel badly about himself. He never fails to give Lev encouragement in hope of lifting his
spirits. You didn t want to go up to that apartment. I was the country fool who insisted on it. So you
don t owe me an apology. And i don t think you re a coward. Anyone with a spoonful of sanity would
have run. (Benioff 65). This is a perfect example of Kolya giving Lev encouragement and
sympathizing with the fact that Lev felt bad for leaving Kolya in the apartment to fight the Giant
alone. I find it thoughtful that Kolya didn t want Lev to feel down or bad about himself so he
proceeded to tell Lev that anyone with common sense would have ran and even though he fled, it
doesn t reflect on his strength and bravery. While this is just one example of Kolyas compassion, his
sympathy is shown in more ways than just one. He opened his eyes, his pale blue cossack eyes, and
smiles at me. We both knew he was going to die. He trembled lying on the back seat beneath his great
coat, his teeth very white against his blue lips. I have always believed that smile was a gift for me.
Kolya had no faith in the divine or the afterlife; he didn t think he was going to a better place, or any
place at all. No angels waited to collect him.

several issues that affect their operations. These issues are maintaining an acceptable budget,
competing with others institutions to attract and retain students, and provide students with an
outstanding education. All of these issues can be address with the use of a virtual computer laboratory

Narrative Essay About A Fishing Trip
Our family has rules set that say you have to be 10 years of age or older to go on our Canada family
fishing trip. At our family gatherings I hear so many stories of how many fish that they caught. I am
filled with anticipation to go with them and catch some of those great big fish. I have dreamed of the
day now it is here I am ready to go, my bags were packed, the boat all clean and off we went. I sure
enjoyed the boat ride out to the spectacular fishing hole. Knowing that there are so many huge fish out
in the water and hoping it is like all the stories I have heard. The ice cold water splashing against the
hull of the boat, sending a shiver through my entire body. The fishing poles ready for action sitting in
the rod lockers bouncing with anticipation much like I was. The boat is a brand new Lund with a 115
horse motor busting through the white caps. Cutting through the ... Show more content on

We just arrived at one of the famous fishing holes. Waves rolling over the rocks. We call it the walleye
chop. We drop our lines down as fast as we could, like a rock vigorously skipping across the lake.
When it finally hits bottom we give it two or three reels up. We turn the fish locator on and it glows
with action at all of the fish. My face lit up knowing that fish are down there. We then drop the trolling
motor down and gave the remote a few clicks. Slowly the boat glided into motion. As we troll along I
gave my new pole a few jigs. My uncle says he has one on. Suddenly, there was tapping at the end of
my fishing rod. I let some line out and the fish takes it. I gave it a pull and set the hook. My fish
started running. I jerk it back into place; it was swimming my way. My heart began to race as it was
inching closer to the boat. I pulled it out of the water and it was a nice 18 incher. Shining with beams
of sunlight; I tossed him into the live well. I throw the branded line back down to get some

Basic Components Of The Us Healthcare Delivery System Essay
Healthcare delivery system main objectives. The main objective of a healthcare delivery system is to
ensure that anyone who needs healthcare receives the best care, at a price they can afford (Barton,
2010, p. 8). The functional components of the US healthcare delivery system. The U.S healthcare
system is large and varied. However, the basic functional components include running the system, the
different branches of the system, how services are rendered, how the services are funded, and
manufacturing of new products (Barton, 2010, p. 6 8). The component of running the system allows
for quality control, making new polices, enforcing said polices, and monitoring the different aspects of
the healthcare delivery system (Barton, 2010, p. 7). The different branches of the healthcare system
allow for people from every level of the finance scale to seek medical care (Barton, 2010, p. 7). The
private market and volunteer organizations are two examples of different branches of the healthcare
system (Barton, 2010, p. 6). Serves are rendered through specialized branches like primary care and
secondary care (Barton, 2010, p. 6). Meaning you go to the specific doctor needed, for example if you
are pregnant seeking prenatal care you see an OBGYN. The system is funded by many different
sources, including the government and private insurance (Barton, 2010, p. 6). The manufacturing of
new products includes, but is not limited to teaching new workers and producing new technology

Summary Of The Naked Citadel
Confirmation bias is the phenomenon of choosing to accept information that appeals to one s beliefs.
It blinds oneself from another s perspective. It is a cycle that reflects people s lack of open
mindedness. Most Democrats grow up in liberal environments while most Republicans grow up in
conservative environments. These environments affect their political stances, as well as other beliefs
and ideals they have. They then share their beliefs and ideals to those around them and future
generations. These beliefs and ideals we acquire blind us from seeing and understanding another s
perspective. In The Naked Citadel, the admission of a female named Shannon Faulkner into The
Citadel, an all male military college, followed by the immediate retraction of the admission lead Susan
Faludi to investigate the college. After observing the mannerisms of the cadets in the college, Faludi
exposes their cruel and sexist ideals in an effort to push her readers to have similar impressions of The
Citadel, a sexist college known for its intense hazing. In another essay, Selections from Losing Matt
Shepard, Beth Loffreda describes the media filled aftermath of a young gay male was beaten and left
for dead by two of the town s residents. What is not directly stated, yet clearly present, are the authors
viewpoint on the matters. Both authors try manipulating their point of views into the minds of their
readers. Media persuades the public to pay attention to the stories they want to portray,

Single and Not Ready to Mingle
Single and Not Ready to Mingle So many single people are under the impression that they are ready to
mingle again, but they are wrong! Are you one of them? How ready do you think you are to mingle
once more? People are single for many different reasons. Some of the common reasons include that
they choose to be single, just came out of an emotional relationship and went through a trying
breakup, or that they find it difficult to meet the perfect partner. Being Single by Choice People
regularly choose to be alone and there is nothing wrong with that. Some people perform better in life
with a partner alongside them, but you find just as many who prefer the opposite scenario. Choosing
to be alone is perfectly normal and people make this particular choice for the following reasons: They
are happiest when alone and totally love their own life They find being single to be a simpler and
easier life They enjoy doing all sorts of everyday things and activities unaccompanied They have
never been very social and are introverted around others Depressed people find that being alone
alleviates the depression Being alone give them chance to reflect on their own situation, life, and
future ambitions They have more fun alone Various individuals find that being alone boost their self
esteem Next time that you wonder about a friend, family member, or colleague who has been single

Human Geography Research Paper
Human Geography is not simply the study of the Earth. It also encompasses the people, places, and
things that make up the Earth, which makes it so much more important to have at least a basic
knowledge of. Living in ignorance of what is important can only get you so far. In my opinion, being
aware of events happening in other parts of the world is essential. Just because it is not happening to
you does not mean it is of little importance or that it will not have an effect on you. This class is going
to be extremely beneficial to me in multiple ways throughout life, including, but not limited to,
solving problems, making decisions, and forming opinions about current events and politics. Those
who do not understand people who are different than them are quicker to judge and have stronger
prejudices. They often discriminate against those with different beliefs or backgrounds. This is
because often humans naturally fear the unknown. Without a basic grasp of these different indigenous
groups, they fear them and therefore act out against them with racism and prejudice. By taking this
class, I have the opportunity to be educated about these people and to understand them better. It is my
belief that if everybody had this information from a young age, people would be a lot more accepting.

I can apply the knowledge to making rational judgements and analyses. Being ignorant is to make
reckless decisions. This will not get you very far in life, but will often leave you in trouble. This class
will also assist me if I plan to make trips around the world, because I will be much more educated
about the people, places, and economy of anywhere I may be traveling to, so I can make better
judgements about how to interact with different groups of people in different parts of the world; a
more direct use of the

Common Forms Of Collective Behavior
Collective behavior is a term sociologists use to refer to a miscellaneous set of behaviors in which
large numbers of people engage. More specifically, collective behavior refers to relatively spontaneous
and relatively unstructured behavior by large numbers of individuals acting with or being influenced
by other individuals. Relatively spontaneous means that the behavior is somewhat spontaneous but
also somewhat planned, while relatively unstructured means that the behavior is somewhat organized
and predictable but also somewhat unorganized and unpredictable. As a whole, though, collective
behavior is regarded as less spontaneous and less structured than conventional behavior, such as what
happens in a classroom, a workplace, or the other settings for everyday behavior with which we are
very familiar. As just noted, the term collective behavior refers to a miscellaneous set of behaviors. As
such, these behaviors often have very little in common with each other, even if their basic features
allow them to be classified as collective behavior. Common forms of collective behavior discussed in
this section include crowds, mobs, panics, riots, disaster behavior, rumors, mass hysteria, moral
panics, and fads and crazes. Of these forms, some (crowds, panics, riots, and disasters) involve people
who are generally in each other s presence and who are more or less interacting with each other, while
other forms (rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes) involve people

The Problem Of Being Homeless
There is not one person who is exactly alike. As people grow up and start to learn who they are they
start to make their own choices. Sometimes people choose to be homeless, and sometimes they can t
make ends meet to feed their family so they are forced to live on the streets. Not every homeless you
meet wants to be there but sometimes that s the only choice they have left. Trying to find work is not
always the possible. Sometimes people have the knowledge to go to school but they aren t able to
because they don t have the proper funds to do so. Many times even though people want to go to
school they can t because they have to go to work to try to make ends meet for themselves and their
families.
Some people are also homeless because they are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. A person who is
addicted to something like that often can t get out of it because they are so addicted to the drug, it is
very hard to get clean. Many times they relapse and go back to drugs just as they were almost done
with treatment. Often people who are addicted to drugs had a life that didn t have anything to do with
homelessness. At one point in their life they had a home, a family, kids, and a job. However
sometimes things can get overwhelming and they decide to try drugs for the first time and that first
time is where everything turns to worst. Doing drugs is a very costly thing and can waste all your
money doing them. People try drugs for the first because they feel stressed and they think

Bacterial Tannase Enzyme Lab Report
Bacterial tannase enzyme were purified from the 24 h old solid state culture filtrate of E. cloacae by
two step purification protocol consisting of ammonium sulfate precipitation (60%) followed by
chromatography techniques, Ion exchange chromatography (DEAE) and Gel filtration
chromatography (Sephadex G 100). In the final step, Ion exchange chromatography enzyme was
purified 1.96 fold with 20.25% recovery and specific activity of 5.51U/mg, and then gel filtration
chromatography enzyme was purified 1.45 fold with 29.97 recovery and specific activity of 4.08 U/mg
(Table ). The purification of tannase from microbial source generally involves sequential
chromatography techniques, mainly, ion exchange, gel filtration chromatography techniques (Qiu et
al., 2011; Goncalves et al., 2011). In these steps, a considerable amount of enzyme is lost due to auto

of multimeric protein being responsible for tannase activity. Previously, Klebsiella pneumonia and

The Evolution Of Ballet And The Human Body

The Evolution of Ballet
Influential philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, stated that the human body is the best picture of the
human soul. A great example of the human body portraying the soul is through the art of ballet. From
the Cambridge Dictionary Online, ballet can be defined as a type of dancing in which controlled
movements of the body are designed to express the beauty of physical motion, often while telling a
story, or a piece of music for such dancing. With ballet s long history, it has shifted through various
eras of time, including Ballet de Cour, Opera Ballet, Romanticism, Classical, Russian Imperialism,
and the current modern era. All of which are characterized by particular ballets, prominent people, and
various other theatrical elements. However, as the art of ballet evolved through the different eras, the
emotions, messages, and nonverbal cues of each ballet changed to fit the societal norms and standards.
BALLET DE COUR Ballet de Cour originated in the 1400s in Italy during the Italian Renaissance.
Eventually, ballet moved to the country of France when Catherine de Médicis, who belonged to one of
the ruling families of Florence, married King Henry II in 1547. Catherine then began to introduce curt
ballet to her new French court. She strikes me as the overall instigator of the ballet movement that
allowed ballet to become as big as it has. A major ballet during this time was the Ballet Comique de

Folly In Ours Is Beer
Nurin (2016), said it best, let s be real. A lot of silly marketing gimmicks pop up on the calendar to
raise awareness for a particular product or activity (p.1). Consequently, the modern business landscape
is very dynamic and versatile so that creativity and innovation forms the main criteria through which
the success of the marketing strategies adopted are gauged. Indeed, packaging marketing
communication, among other marketing mixes applied in contemporary market requires shrewdness.
NBB seemed to agonize over the use of the word folly in its advertising campaign. Indeed, the use of
the word folly was controversial, especially due to the connotation that the word has. Moreover, the
use of the word is somehow self defeating because in its lexical meaning, folly means that which is
foolish, lack meaningful sense or useless. Further, it is defined as a costly ornamental product or
structure without any worthwhile use. However, in the usage, the company had a tagline, Follow Your

team suggesting that a word like folly had fallen so far from the vernacular that it was ripe for

offbeat endeavors versus the traditional follow the money thinking that created the social tensions
inherent to potential consumers lives. Consequently, after a healthy volley of e mails from nearly

Sublime Elements in Of Love and Other Demons Essay
Sublime Elements in Of Love and Other Demons
The book Of Love and Other Demons (1994), written by the Columbian Gabriel Garcia Marquez, has
more characteristics of sublime literature than of magical realist literature. Magical Realism and the
sublime are so closely related that distinguishing between the two is hard. They are more closely
related than magical realism and the fantastic.
Of Love and Other Demons has elements of magical realism. Of all the magical elements, the most
important and the most obvious is the dream that is shared by both Sierva and Delaura before they
meet. The long red hair of Sierva is an example of a magic realist element that is hidden. The death of

they also partake of a dreamlike quality which aligns them with a host of other magical realist devices
and motifs (Theim 237). This device is also similar to Weiskel s third phase of the sublime, the
reactive phase (qtd in Sandner 52). During this time, the mind recovers the balance of outer and inner
by constituting a fresh relation between itself and the object (qtd. in Sandner 52).
Another way in which the story may correspond with the sublime is Sierva s long red hair that had not
been cut from the day she was born until the end of her excorcism. Wordsworth says, about the
sublime, Even in the scenes drawn from ordinary life, [the authors] would throw over them a certain
coloring of the imagination (qtd. in Sander 60). This effect is exactly what Marquez does with Sierva s
hair. He alluded that there may be something supernatural about it. The sublime affirm[s] a spiritual
dimension to fantasy and explores, through fantastic images, the meaning and existence of spirit
(Sandner 145). Transformation, another sublime characteristic, is used to show how one s perception
of something changes (qtd in Sandner 51). Instead of being just hair, it was a promise to Dominga s
god. Defamiliarization, which is a characteristic of both the sublime and magical realism (Simpkins
150), is used in Of Love and Other Demons. It focuses one s attention on something, such as hair, that
he or she would normally think nothing

Differences Between The Southern Colony And The New...
In this paper I will discuss the differences between the Southern colony and the New England colony
and how each labor systems worked. The Southern and Northern colonies differences were obvious in
their regions. The differences that I will discuss will be the religious choices, governing, and economy.
I will compare the many beliefs on how things were to be governed and who made those decisions for
the good of the colony and their economic status.
Religion:
There were four original colonies of New England: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and
Rhode Island. The New England colony or the Separatists first started a journey for religious freedoms
in the Dutch Netherlands. They quickly removed themselves from the Dutch after the ... Show more

They were too far north of a governing body in Jamestown and decided to govern themselves as a
majority rule government. This led to town meetings and elections. These activities would later
establish American democracy. William Bradford became the governor elect for the next thirty years
that proved fruitful. Under Bradford the relationship with the natives grew as well as the food supply.
Later, self governing colonies became more desirable. The church would later control the laws of the
colonies. This became known as a Theocracy. The southern colonies were still under English rule and
laws. The south had its House of Delegates that passed laws to protect certain interest groups and their
religious freedoms. The Delegates were elected into their offices and later became more Protestant
than Catholic due to the Catholics becoming the minority among the southern colonies. In Maryland
and Virginia, they operated in a Headlight System to which each colony leader oversaw the economic
survival. This later changed to the landowners becoming the governing body known as an Oligarchy.
The richest landowners controlled laws. The church ultimately took a back seat to wealth and political

Valium In William Faulkner s Angels In America
Reading through Angels in America my mind kept going to one question about a character. Is Harper
real or a figment of Joe s mind brought on by denial of his own sexuality, and the manipulation of his
God fearing mother, Hannah? I believe that, at a young age, Joe realized that he favored his own sex.
However, this lifestyle is not accepted in the Mormon Church. This knowledge conflicted with his
understanding of the world and questioned his faith which led him to abuse Valium as a way to cope,
and become detached from his true feelings. However, unknowingly to him his mother knew what was
happening to her son. Knowing that her son is moving away from her watchful eye she decided to
create a woman that would keep him faithful to her

Humpback Whales Navigate By Stars
Both the reading passage and the lecture focus on the supporting evidence of the possibility that
humpback whales navigate by stars. While the passage points out three reasons why it is possible for
humpback whales to travel by stras, the professor disagrees with the three statements and expresses
his doubts about the validity of them. First of all, the author of the passage claims that humpback
whales have the intelligence to use stars for orientation. However, the professor maintains that the
ability to use stars for navigation has nothing to do with cognitive ability. In fact, as is mentioned by
the professor, dogs, whose brain capacity is only of medium level, have the ability of using stars for
navigation. Therefore, there is no correlation

An Outsider In Shakespeare s Othello
In Shakespeare s Othello, Othello s character is very out of place in Venice, however Othello is able to
overcome his differences with his talent as a leader and speaker. Many of the other characters are
racist towards Othello because he is an outsider. Othello s character overcomes the prejudice of
Venetian society because he possesses the qualities of a quintessential speaker and leader. From the
beginning of the play, it is clear that Othello is faced with challenge of proving himself to his racist
counterparts. It is clear that Othello is an outsider when the characters talk down to him without even
saying his name. He is referred to as the Moor (I.i.57), thick lips (I.i.66), and Barbary horse (I.i.113).
The racial names that are used show his character is an outsider, and not your typical Venetian. The
racial differences create an atmosphere that Othello s character would not be able to thrive in if he was
not so strong willed, and eloquent. Even though Othello is an outsider, he is very valuable as a ...

Before his clearly convincing story of how he got Desdemona to fall in love with him, he says, Rude

remotely a poor public speaker, which was assumed of a Moor, but he uses it as a device to be even
more persuasive. This shows how clever Othello is because he sells himself as being an unequipped
speaker which makes it seem even more impressive when he tells a convincing story. The Duke
describes how convincing Othello s character is when he reacts to Othello s tale of Desdemona s love.
As soon as Othello finishes telling the story, the Duke says, I think this tale would win my daughter

Letter From Birmingham Jail Act
In April 1963, the city of Birmingham, Alabama, was caught in the midst of massive civil rights
protests. Protestors advocating for desegregation brought the city to a halt with widespread disruptive
yet peaceful protests. After a circuit court placed an injunction against protesting, parading and
picketing King was arrested for his involvement. While in jail King received a letter written by eight
Alabama clergymen criticizing King for his disruptive protests and the breaking of laws which lead to
his arrest. In response King wrote an open letter explaining his actions that would be known as Letter
from Birmingham Jail . In his letter Dr. King effectively addresses an unsympathetic audience by
focusing on building his credibility rather than seeking an emotional response.
The largest challenge Dr. King faced in writing his response was that his audience did not respect him.
As a result of the laws he devoted himself to protest, Dr. King was a second class citizen. To the white
clergymen he was addressing he was both socially and legally inferior. The feeling of supremacy that
the clergymen, and many other whites, had toward blacks at the time made them largely
unsympathetic to their plight. To avoid appearing pitiful or even pathetic he maintains a calm and
authoritative tone. Even though the clergymen were harshly critical of his activities and methods King
responds in a collected manner I feel that [...] your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to

Essay On Writing Tutors
In the aftermath of the 2008 economic recession, cash strapped universities have tried to balance their
books by slashing programs perceived as non essential . As a result, university programs and
departments have been forced to justify their existence in order to protect themselves against further
cuts. In the midst of this fight for funding, humanities programs, including the writing department,
tend to bear the brunt of cuts. The value of writing programs has never been so disputed in the entire
history of American education. In light of this new trend, the question of what exactly the writing
program is has never been more pertinent. More specifically, we can ask what writing tutoring
programs have to offer at increasingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This point will move in either direction based on the specific needs of my student. The more a student
requires directive methods of instruction, the more the point will move closer to academic discourse,
while the same holds true for non directive methods and peer discourse. Changes in directiveness and
non directiveness are also changes in power; the more directive I become, the more I am using my
power as a tutor, while the less directive I become, the more I act as a peer.
The tutor s status as peer or authority evolves dynamically throughout the session as the needs of the
student are addressed. One of my students quoted a large excerpt from the course readings, failing to
realize that it s conventional to paraphrase quotes instead. No amount of non directive questioning
would lead her to the right answer, because she simply didn t have the requisite experience with
academic discourse to generate this knowledge on her own. In this case, I had to directly inform her
on the conventions of paraphrasing in order to improve her paper, not ask a series of futile, non
directive questions. Since I used my knowledge of academic discourse to directly tell her what to do, I
moved the session closer to the academic, directive, and power based side of the spectrum. I
effectively intermediated between the discourse of academia and the discourse of my peer. Later in the
session, I asked her if

Essay On Bilingual Education
2.3. Bilingual education and its types
Bilingual education is a simple label to describe a very complex phenomenon. It should be a
distinction between education that uses and promotes two languages, and the relatively monolingual
education in a second language. There is a difference between the kind where the formal instruction
develops the bilingualism and another in the classroom where the bilingual child is present, but the
curriculum does not promote bilingualism, i.e. the end is not bilingualism (C. Baker, 2011: 207).
Mackey (1970) believes that bilingual education should be as wide as possible in order to
accommodate all the ways in which researchers could have used the definition in the past.
Bilingual education should be limited to creating educational programs that encourage the use of two
languages as a medium of instruction rather than the language of instruction itself. Bilingual education
is a generic term used to describe education in schools that have in common the use of two languages.
This would be bilingual education that goes from this work: an education whose objective is to
encourage and promote the use of bilingualism. We discard the other distinction as bilingualism is not
the end in our Curriculum and bilingual child is not present in our classrooms. ... Show more content

The complexity of bilingual education becomes more apparent.
The management of two languages is essential in today s society, and most of the teachers agree that

with that the schools have a good range of foreign languages and to do so we will know the types of
bilingual education. Bilingual teaching models differ in several

Act Utilitarianism And Rule Utilitarianism
1. Utilitarians believe that one should so act as to promote the greatest happiness (pleasure) of the
greatest number of people (Angeles 326). However, within the utilitarian community there are major
splits in how we are to determine which action brings us the greatest amounts of pleasure. Today I will
be focusing on two ways to determine which actions bring the greatest amount of pleasure to a
situation: act and rule utilitarianism. I will define both act and rule utilitarianism, give a situation
where both can be applied, and respond to an objection of utilitarianism. I will also be discussing why
I believe act utilitarianism helps more people than rule utilitarianism, in turn, becoming superior to
rule utilitarianism.
2. To begin, I will be defining both act and rule utilitarianism. In act utilitarianism, you determine the
morality of an act by measuring the pleasures and pains for a specific situation Angeles 326). Act
utilitarians take into consideration only those affected in the specific situation. However, rule
utilitarianism determines the morality of an act according to the good or bad consequences that ensue
from following a general moral rule of conduct... (Angeles 326). Good examples of those general
moral rules are phrases like, never steal or never tell a lie. In any situation, people can use either act or
rule utilitarianism to determine the correct course of action.
3. Now, I will use a hypothetical situation to describe both act and rule

The Minoan Civilization On The Mediterranean Island Of...
The Minoan Civilization began on the Mediterranean island of Crete. It was first excavated by Sir
Arthur Evans. The possible civilization sparked his interest when a charm that the Minoans use to
wear was found, and it was brought to his attention. He started at Knossos, where the possible
civilization became a reality. He uncovered multiple palaces, which have all been named since then.
They are named: Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, and Zakros. Each one shows signs of religion, trade, and
politics. They believed these palaces controlled the Minoan civilization. These Palaces seemed to co
exist on this small island because there are no signs of wall fortifications or protection. Although they
were able to stand their ground when challenged because they made swords, daggers, and armor. The
Minoan civilization was intellectually advanced for their time. Hieroglyphics, writing, art, frescos, and
pottery. This civilization created three different writing styles, although the first was not complex and
structure enough to be considered a writing style. It only involved pictures and symbols simply drawn
to express a thought. This type of writing was mainly found in Knossos and Phaistos. The next type of
style was called Script A. Cretan Hieroglyphs and Linear A were likely very closely related and in fact
might be two scripts of the same writing system, but we do not know enough about either system to
draw any conclusions at this time (ancientscripts.com). Historians are unable to

The Building Of Building A Building
The building envelope is the building shell or enclosure that separates the interior of a building with
the outdoor environment. This physical separator serves as an important component to maintain a
comfortable and healthy indoor environment by transferring the air, water, heat, light and noise. The
components of an envelope typically include walls, fenestration, floors, roof and doors with additional
parts such as thermal insulation and shading devices. As discussed above, the climate is an important
factor when designing a building. A well designed envelope with high performance should be
accustomed to the local climate. Accordingly, there are arid climate envelope, tropical climate
envelope, cold envelope and mixed cold/hot climate envelope which may be composed of components
such as sheets and blocks. The building envelope have a big influence on whole building s energy
usage. An energy effective building envelope design saved as much as 35% and 47% of total and peak
cooling demands respectively. At the same time building code requirements on envelopes have
increased significantly. Although the codes and standards used in local and state level of government
varies in place, they all derivate from ASHRAE and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
Walls are a major part of a building envelope and are expected to maintain a thermal and acoustic
comfort inside the building. The crucial performance factor of the wall is thermal resistance (R value)

There has been no talk about habitat preservation or restoration but there are various laws and policies
in many Southeast Asian countries protecting the white winged wood duck. There have not been many
attempts to release the white winged wood duck from the captive breeding programs back into the
wild. The current plans to save the organism are just to hope that the laws in place will protect the
ducks, but that is not working well so far. There have been many materials talking about protecting
endangered species, such as the Cairina scutulata, distributed in countries like Laos and Cambodia.
Some other nearby countries like India have sanctuaries for these ducks. Some of the things that have
been suggested that could save the organism are things like enforcing the hunting laws, actually
monitoring the Cairina scutulata population, protection of swamp forests, and campaigning against oil
and pesticide pollution. It is assumed that actually following through on the suggested ideas will
drastically increase the Cairina scutulata population because they will be able to grow in an ideal

The Honor of Sir Galahad
The knights of King Arthur s time were not only brave, but they were righteous, gallant, and faithful.
In King Arthur s time, chivalry was everything. Knights were expected to do battle, be religious, and
be respectful to women. One such knight was Sir Galahad. He was the son of Lancelot and Elaine of
Corbenic and became a knight at King Arthur s Round Table. The story of Sir Galahad was shared in
The Quest of the Holy Grail from the Middle Ages. It told how Galahad first came to King Arthur s
Round Table, and how despite being brought up by nuns, he was known as a courteous and chivalrous
knight. During the medieval era, chivalry was a very important part of society. ... Show more content

No one else had been able to do that. It was said that only the world s best knight could pull out the
sword. So he pleased the king. King Arthur proclaimed him to be the greatest knight and invited
Galahad to become a Knight of the Round Table. Sir Galahad was shown to have moral purity by
being a trustful, noble leader and putting other people over himself. Because of Galahad s moral purity
and because he was able to pull the sword from the stone so easily, the King asked him to find the
Holy Grail. The King said, If he be indeed the one for whom we have waited to bring to a close the
adventures of the Holy Grail, no man has ever met with greater joy than he shall have of us.
(Matarasso) The actions of Galahad and what was said about him show that he pleased the court and
the King. He had possessed many chivalric attributes including courtliness and moral purity.
These attributes of courtliness and moral purity were very important in the Medieval society. Chivalry
is the representative code for the conduct of the knights on the battlefield, involvement in religion, as
well as a concept of warfare (History Professor Nick Smith), Galahad represented chivalry for the
reason that he was one of King Arthur s favorite knights and had expectations for many great
descendants. In the Arthurian stories, Galahad was well known

The main suppliers are the Equator, Netherlands, France, Italy, Mexico, Germany, etc. the main buyers

to survive it must maintain a very efficient supply chain from the producer to the consumer. Equator
who is big supplier of flower in the world enjoys quite a competitive advantage in relation to its main
competitors. Equator has cheap labor cost, 12 hour a day sun, and the fact that farms are very close to
the airport. But in recent years these competitive advantages have been matched by other producer in
North Africa, Asia, Colombia, India and more recently China. China, India, and Colombia focus on
producing great quantity of flower at a lower cost whereas Equator focuses in producing its flower in
high quality rather than quantity. The pick of the market is around the month of February. During this
time the price of flower tends to rise due to the heavy demand allowing companies to generate 1/3 of
their revenue around this time. Equator supplies 25% of the rose in the world. For every 1 flower sold

The Success Of A Recession
Warren Buffett, entrepreneur and investor once said, It s only when the tide goes out that you discover
who s been swimming naked. In order to know exactly what Mr. Buffett was talking about when he
said this line, you would have either had to be there or one day have the opportunity to ask him
yourself. However, in the context of comparing this quote to economics, or perhaps banking, one
could say that what he meant was that the choices that are made today might not be judged until later
down the road. For example, a recession is not something that just happens over night. In the event
leading up to a recession, there are many factors and every recession is unique in their own way. As
for the great recession in 2008, the causes included subprime lending, and greed amongst lenders and
borrowers. Before jumping straight into the causes of the 2008 recession, first you must be informed
of the history in previous recessions America has had to face. Since the Great Depression ended in
mid 1930 s, America has had to overcome around eleven recessions. Now some might argue that not
all recorded recessions were worthy of getting the tittle as an official recession. Many will simply say
it was slight hiccup in the economy because of the short six to eight month duration of the smaller
recessions. When divided over the years It seems that the United States has one to two recessions
every decade. However, everyone of the short recessions had a significant impact on the American

Cultural Diversity For The Health Care System
The term culture has a very broad definition that encompasses the values, beliefs, customs, religions,
behaviors, traditions and the collective attitudes of a group of people (Williamson Harrison, 2010). In
1971, Canada was one of the first countries in the world to adopt multiculturalism as a national policy
(Government of Canada, 2012). Since then, Canadians have prided themselves on being accepting of
cultural diversity and recognizing equal rights for all citizens, regardless of country of origin
(Government of Canada, 2012). However, cultural diversity presents challenges for the health care
system as people of various cultures have different expectations and requirements of healthcare (De
Miao Kemp, 2010). This is not an issue that is unique to Canada, but one that extends to all countries
which encourage multiculturalism. Indeed it has been found that immigrants often experience
declining health and dissatisfactory medical care compared to the native population due to issues in
language, accessibility, social support, and familiarity with the health care system (Pollock, Newbold,
Lafrenière Edge, 2012; De Miao Kemp, 2010). Therefore, there is an increased emphasis for nurses
and other health care professionals to develop cultural competence. As I will show in this paper,
working in a culturally diverse society requires nurses to adapt their caring strategies to cater to the
cultural needs of their patients. I will then expand on how my own personal experiences

Cuban Socioeconomics In Cuba
In 1959, Fidel Castro seized control of Cuba and the country turned from dictatorship to a communist
state. The Cuban socioeconomics follow that of other Communist cultures for example the Soviet
Union, where the government is in control all parts of its citizen s way of life. In most recent years,
Raul Castro has setup many reforms that benefit the people. The reforms are:
1. Removal of internal restrictions on the movement of people and goods within Cuba. As things
currently stand, people within Cuba are not allowed to freely trade goods and products from one
province to another. These restrictions distort prices and increase costs for average citizens. A coffee
grower in the mountains of Eastern Cuba should be able to sell his product in the streets of Havana.
2. Removal of draconian import and export restrictions and tariffs. The state currently holds a
monopoly on foreign trade in the island and Cubans who want to start their own businesses are
prohibited from freely buying and selling goods with buyers and sellers outside the country. This
increases costs, contributes to scarcity of goods, and restricts economic growth.
3. Removal of all restrictions on Cubans ability to work privately and to form their own businesses

  • 3. Kolya s Characteristic In City Of Thieves By David Benioff City Of Thieves Author David Benioff of the suspenseful novel, City of Thieves, does a remarkable job at developing the witty, humorous, brave, and optimistic character known as Kolya. Kolya begins this novel as an unlikable and unpleasant character but gradually redeems himself by displaying more admirable traits. Throughout this intriguing novel, despite his arrogance and frequent reckless behavior, Kolya has proven to be a very likeable and sympathetic character. Kolya, an alleged deserter of the red army during World War II was first portrayed and thought of by others as bold and overconfident. With his manacles hands, he managed to push up the left sleeve of his great coat, the left sleeve of his army sweater, the left sleeve of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the story, it is made evident that Kolya truly does sympathize with Lev. Kolya never wants Lev to feel badly about himself. He never fails to give Lev encouragement in hope of lifting his spirits. You didn t want to go up to that apartment. I was the country fool who insisted on it. So you don t owe me an apology. And i don t think you re a coward. Anyone with a spoonful of sanity would have run. (Benioff 65). This is a perfect example of Kolya giving Lev encouragement and sympathizing with the fact that Lev felt bad for leaving Kolya in the apartment to fight the Giant alone. I find it thoughtful that Kolya didn t want Lev to feel down or bad about himself so he proceeded to tell Lev that anyone with common sense would have ran and even though he fled, it doesn t reflect on his strength and bravery. While this is just one example of Kolyas compassion, his sympathy is shown in more ways than just one. He opened his eyes, his pale blue cossack eyes, and smiles at me. We both knew he was going to die. He trembled lying on the back seat beneath his great coat, his teeth very white against his blue lips. I have always believed that smile was a gift for me. Kolya had no faith in the divine or the afterlife; he didn t think he was going to a better place, or any place at all. No angels waited to collect him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Narrative Essay About A Fishing Trip Our family has rules set that say you have to be 10 years of age or older to go on our Canada family fishing trip. At our family gatherings I hear so many stories of how many fish that they caught. I am filled with anticipation to go with them and catch some of those great big fish. I have dreamed of the day now it is here I am ready to go, my bags were packed, the boat all clean and off we went. I sure enjoyed the boat ride out to the spectacular fishing hole. Knowing that there are so many huge fish out in the water and hoping it is like all the stories I have heard. The ice cold water splashing against the hull of the boat, sending a shiver through my entire body. The fishing poles ready for action sitting in the rod lockers bouncing with anticipation much like I was. The boat is a brand new Lund with a 115 horse motor busting through the white caps. Cutting through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We just arrived at one of the famous fishing holes. Waves rolling over the rocks. We call it the walleye chop. We drop our lines down as fast as we could, like a rock vigorously skipping across the lake. When it finally hits bottom we give it two or three reels up. We turn the fish locator on and it glows with action at all of the fish. My face lit up knowing that fish are down there. We then drop the trolling motor down and gave the remote a few clicks. Slowly the boat glided into motion. As we troll along I gave my new pole a few jigs. My uncle says he has one on. Suddenly, there was tapping at the end of my fishing rod. I let some line out and the fish takes it. I gave it a pull and set the hook. My fish started running. I jerk it back into place; it was swimming my way. My heart began to race as it was inching closer to the boat. I pulled it out of the water and it was a nice 18 incher. Shining with beams of sunlight; I tossed him into the live well. I throw the branded line back down to get some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main objective of a healthcare delivery system is to ensure that anyone who needs healthcare receives the best care, at a price they can afford (Barton, 2010, p. 8). The functional components of the US healthcare delivery system. The U.S healthcare system is large and varied. • 7. Summary Of The Naked Citadel Confirmation bias is the phenomenon of choosing to accept information that appeals to one s beliefs. It blinds oneself from another s perspective. It is a cycle that reflects people s lack of open mindedness. Most Democrats grow up in liberal environments while most Republicans grow up in conservative environments. These environments affect their political stances, as well as other beliefs and ideals they have. They then share their beliefs and ideals to those around them and future generations. These beliefs and ideals we acquire blind us from seeing and understanding another s perspective. In The Naked Citadel, the admission of a female named Shannon Faulkner into The Citadel, an all male military college, followed by the immediate retraction of the admission lead Susan Faludi to investigate the college. After observing the mannerisms of the cadets in the college, Faludi exposes their cruel and sexist ideals in an effort to push her readers to have similar impressions of The Citadel, a sexist college known for its intense hazing. In another essay, Selections from Losing Matt Shepard, Beth Loffreda describes the media filled aftermath of a young gay male was beaten and left for dead by two of the town s residents. What is not directly stated, yet clearly present, are the authors viewpoint on the matters. Both authors try manipulating their point of views into the minds of their readers. How ready do you think you are to mingle once more? People are single for many different reasons. Some of the common reasons include that they choose to be single, just came out of an emotional relationship and went through a trying breakup, or that they find it difficult to meet the perfect partner. • 10. Human Geography Research Paper Human Geography is not simply the study of the Earth. It also encompasses the people, places, and things that make up the Earth, which makes it so much more important to have at least a basic knowledge of. Living in ignorance of what is important can only get you so far. In my opinion, being aware of events happening in other parts of the world is essential. Those who do not understand people who are different than them are quicker to judge and have stronger prejudices. They often discriminate against those with different beliefs or backgrounds. • 11. Common Forms Of Collective Behavior Collective behavior is a term sociologists use to refer to a miscellaneous set of behaviors in which large numbers of people engage. More specifically, collective behavior refers to relatively spontaneous and relatively unstructured behavior by large numbers of individuals acting with or being influenced by other individuals. Relatively spontaneous means that the behavior is somewhat spontaneous but also somewhat planned, while relatively unstructured means that the behavior is somewhat organized and predictable but also somewhat unorganized and unpredictable. As a whole, though, collective behavior is regarded as less spontaneous and less structured than conventional behavior, such as what happens in a classroom, a workplace, or the other settings for everyday behavior with which we are very familiar. As just noted, the term collective behavior refers to a miscellaneous set of behaviors. As such, these behaviors often have very little in common with each other, even if their basic features allow them to be classified as collective behavior. Common forms of collective behavior discussed in this section include crowds, mobs, panics, riots, disaster behavior, rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes. Of these forms, some (crowds, panics, riots, and disasters) involve people who are generally in each other s presence and who are more or less interacting with each other, while other forms (rumors, mass hysteria, moral panics, and fads and crazes) involve people ... • 15. The Evolution Of Ballet And The Human Body Emma Weber Instructor Miller Speech 96 111 April 7, 2015 The Evolution of Ballet Influential philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, stated that the human body is the best picture of the human soul. A great example of the human body portraying the soul is through the art of ballet. From the Cambridge Dictionary Online, ballet can be defined as a type of dancing in which controlled movements of the body are designed to express the beauty of physical motion, often while telling a story, or a piece of music for such dancing. With ballet s long history, it has shifted through various eras of time, including Ballet de Cour, Opera Ballet, Romanticism, Classical, Russian Imperialism, and the current modern era. All of which are characterized by particular ballets, prominent people, and various other theatrical elements. However, as the art of ballet evolved through the different eras, the emotions, messages, and nonverbal cues of each ballet changed to fit the societal norms and standards. BALLET DE COUR Ballet de Cour originated in the 1400s in Italy during the Italian Renaissance. Eventually, ballet moved to the country of France when Catherine de Médicis, who belonged to one of the ruling families of Florence, married King Henry II in 1547. Catherine then began to introduce curt ballet to her new French court. She strikes me as the overall instigator of the ballet movement that allowed ballet to become as big as it has. • 17. Sublime Elements in Of Love and Other Demons Essay Sublime Elements in Of Love and Other Demons The book Of Love and Other Demons (1994), written by the Columbian Gabriel Garcia Marquez, has more characteristics of sublime literature than of magical realist literature. Magical Realism and the sublime are so closely related that distinguishing between the two is hard. They are more closely related than magical realism and the fantastic. Of Love and Other Demons has elements of magical realism. Of all the magical elements, the most important and the most obvious is the dream that is shared by both Sierva and Delaura before they meet. This device is also similar to Weiskel s third phase of the sublime, the reactive phase (qtd in Sandner 52). During this time, the mind recovers the balance of outer and inner by constituting a fresh relation between itself and the object (qtd. in Sandner 52). Another way in which the story may correspond with the sublime is Sierva s long red hair that had not been cut from the day she was born until the end of her excorcism. Wordsworth says, about the sublime, Even in the scenes drawn from ordinary life, [the authors] would throw over them a certain coloring of the imagination (qtd. in Sander 60). This effect is exactly what Marquez does with Sierva s hair. He alluded that there may be something supernatural about it. The sublime affirm[s] a spiritual dimension to fantasy and explores, through fantastic images, the meaning and existence of spirit (Sandner 145). Transformation, another sublime characteristic, is used to show how one s perception of something changes (qtd in Sandner 51). Instead of being just hair, it was a promise to Dominga s god. Defamiliarization, which is a characteristic of both the sublime and magical realism (Simpkins 150), is used in Of Love and Other Demons. • 26. Essay On Bilingual Education 2.3. Bilingual education and its types Bilingual education is a simple label to describe a very complex phenomenon. It should be a distinction between education that uses and promotes two languages, and the relatively monolingual education in a second language. There is a difference between the kind where the formal instruction develops the bilingualism and another in the classroom where the bilingual child is present, but the curriculum does not promote bilingualism, i.e. the end is not bilingualism (C. Baker, 2011: 207). Mackey (1970) believes that bilingual education should be as wide as possible in order to accommodate all the ways in which researchers could have used the definition in the past. Bilingual education should be limited to creating educational programs that encourage the use of two languages as a medium of instruction rather than the language of instruction itself. Bilingual education is a generic term used to describe education in schools that have in common the use of two languages. However, within the utilitarian community there are major splits in how we are to determine which action brings us the greatest amounts of pleasure. Today I will be focusing on two ways to determine which actions bring the greatest amount of pleasure to a situation: act and rule utilitarianism. I will define both act and rule utilitarianism, give a situation where both can be applied, and respond to an objection of utilitarianism. I will also be discussing why I believe act utilitarianism helps more people than rule utilitarianism, in turn, becoming superior to rule utilitarianism. 2. To begin, I will be defining both act and rule utilitarianism. In act utilitarianism, you determine the morality of an act by measuring the pleasures and pains for a specific situation Angeles 326). Act utilitarians take into consideration only those affected in the specific situation. However, rule utilitarianism determines the morality of an act according to the good or bad consequences that ensue from following a general moral rule of conduct... (Angeles 326). It was said that only the world s best knight could pull out the sword. So he pleased the king. King Arthur proclaimed him to be the greatest knight and invited Galahad to become a Knight of the Round Table. Sir Galahad was shown to have moral purity by being a trustful, noble leader and putting other people over himself. Because of Galahad s moral purity and because he was able to pull the sword from the stone so easily, the King asked him to find the Holy Grail. The King said, If he be indeed the one for whom we have waited to bring to a close the adventures of the Holy Grail, no man has ever met with greater joy than he shall have of us. (Matarasso) The actions of Galahad and what was said about him show that he pleased the court and the King. He had possessed many chivalric attributes including courtliness and moral purity. These attributes of courtliness and moral purity were very important in the Medieval society. Chivalry is the representative code for the conduct of the knights on the battlefield, involvement in religion, as well as a concept of warfare (History Professor Nick Smith), Galahad represented chivalry for the reason that he was one of King Arthur s favorite knights and had expectations for many great descendants. • 33. The Success Of A Recession Warren Buffett, entrepreneur and investor once said, It s only when the tide goes out that you discover who s been swimming naked. In order to know exactly what Mr. Buffett was talking about when he said this line, you would have either had to be there or one day have the opportunity to ask him yourself. However, in the context of comparing this quote to economics, or perhaps banking, one could say that what he meant was that the choices that are made today might not be judged until later down the road. For example, a recession is not something that just happens over night. In the event leading up to a recession, there are many factors and every recession is unique in their own way. As for the great recession in 2008, the causes included subprime lending, and greed amongst lenders and borrowers. Before jumping straight into the causes of the 2008 recession, first you must be informed of the history in previous recessions America has had to face. Since the Great Depression ended in mid 1930 s, America has had to overcome around eleven recessions. Now some might argue that not all recorded recessions were worthy of getting the tittle as an official recession. Many will simply say it was slight hiccup in the economy because of the short six to eight month duration of the smaller recessions. When divided over the years It seems that the United States has one to two recessions every decade. However, everyone of the short recessions had a significant impact on the American ... • 34. Cultural Diversity For The Health Care System The term culture has a very broad definition that encompasses the values, beliefs, customs, religions, behaviors, traditions and the collective attitudes of a group of people (Williamson Harrison, 2010). In 1971, Canada was one of the first countries in the world to adopt multiculturalism as a national policy (Government of Canada, 2012). Since then, Canadians have prided themselves on being accepting of cultural diversity and recognizing equal rights for all citizens, regardless of country of origin (Government of Canada, 2012). However, cultural diversity presents challenges for the health care system as people of various cultures have different expectations and requirements of healthcare (De Miao Kemp, 2010). This is not an issue that is unique to Canada, but one that extends to all countries which encourage multiculturalism. Indeed it has been found that immigrants often experience declining health and dissatisfactory medical care compared to the native population due to issues in language, accessibility, social support, and familiarity with the health care system (Pollock, Newbold, Lafrenière Edge, 2012; De Miao Kemp, 2010). Therefore, there is an increased emphasis for nurses and other health care professionals to develop cultural competence. As I will show in this paper, working in a culturally diverse society requires nurses to adapt their caring strategies to cater to the cultural needs of their patients. I will then expand on how my own personal experiences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Cuban Socioeconomics In Cuba In 1959, Fidel Castro seized control of Cuba and the country turned from dictatorship to a communist state. The Cuban socioeconomics follow that of other Communist cultures for example the Soviet Union, where the government is in control all parts of its citizen s way of life. In most recent years, Raul Castro has setup many reforms that benefit the people. The reforms are: 1. Removal of internal restrictions on the movement of people and goods within Cuba. As things currently stand, people within Cuba are not allowed to freely trade goods and products from one province to another. These restrictions distort prices and increase costs for average citizens. A coffee grower in the mountains of Eastern Cuba should be able to sell his product in the streets of Havana. 2. Removal of draconian import and export restrictions and tariffs. The state currently holds a monopoly on foreign trade in the island and Cubans who want to start their own businesses are prohibited from freely buying and selling goods with buyers and sellers outside the country. This increases costs, contributes to scarcity of goods, and restricts economic growth. 3. Removal of all restrictions on Cubans ability to work privately and to form their own businesses independent of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
