CBD Vs Tetrahydrocannabinol
Should doctors look more into using medical marijuana for chronic pain and other disorders? Scientist
have stated that medical marijuana can treat multiple medical issues but they do come with side
effects. Cannabidiol also known as CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) have many health benefits
that patients should take into consideration in order to alleviate the pain associated with their medical
issues. Rather than dealing with multiple different doses of medication THC is psychoactive while
CBD is not psychoactive, both benefit different but similar issues but gives patients a lower chance to
become addicted to their prescribed medications.

Group Minds, By Doris Lessing
We, as humans, like to believe that we always stand out in a crowd and never conform to please
society. We hold our freedom to be individuals higher than most of our other freedoms. Humans
believe that we always use this individualism to speak our opinions. We think that we would never
change our views to comply with a group. As much as we would like to believe this, it seems that
more often than not, we tend to follow the crowd. In her article Group Minds , Doris Lessing was on
the right track when she described how humans stand for choice and individualism, but when faced
with the situation, most tend to fall in line with the majority.

As humans, we are drawn to groups for numerous reasons. Society as a whole is very social. When
you are a part of a group it allows you to be sociable. Additionally, we are drawn to these groups
because we have a craving to feel wanted. Humans enjoy the feeling of being wanted. Another reason
we are drawn together is we want to fit in. We desire to be accepted by others and fear judgement if
we don t agree with everyone else. This then causes us to conform to the rest of society and act in a
similar fashion. Humans wish to be accepted, and we try not to draw attention to ourselves because of
this. Love, support, and affection is what we gain from these groups. Qualities such as these are what
draws us to groups. In time of despair we tend to lean on the other members to prevent us from

Software Development Project Methodologies For Developing...
Software Development Project Methodologies 1, Discuss Software Development Methodologies in
general what is a Methodology, why are methodologies used? Software Development Methodology is
a process of project to develop a software or system to improve its quality.

As the result, there is no turning back and it might cause huge changes of the process. Weaknesses:
https://www.cms.gov/Research Statistics Data and Systems/CMS Information
Technology/XLC/Downloads/SelectingDevelopmentApproach.pdf However, there are lots of
weaknesses for Waterfall during development. The Waterfall model is not flexible and it s too slow
and costly because of the process cannot be changed and need to ensure each step finish before move
to next one. Because of this structure, the process cannot move backward and relay on the design and
documentation in the beginning, for example, it will be difficult and might need to start from
beginning again if clients want to change their requirements. During the development, there will be no
test for the program (only basic test) so some bugs or problems can t be found until system test step
and they need to fix the bugs and problems based on capacity. It wastes lots of time to update all
documentation, in addition, some specifications will be difficult for users to read and understand.
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/124732/Software Development Methodologies In short,
Waterfall can work well when everything is following the plan because the model rely on all
specification and documentation which finished before implement it, in another word, it s easy to
cause a failure or over budget because of changing requirements. 3,

The Music Of The Musical Life
After his retiring from the public musical life, at the height of his career (his last opera is dated 1829),
the Maestro lived enough to see a new fruitful creative period in his old age. From 1857 on, he wrote
pieces of chamber music far several instrumental formations and had them performed at Parisian
musical soirées. He, however, thought their publication unadvisale as if they were sins of his old age,
Péchés de vieillesse. Really they are a collection of Salonmusik : a quite original one of sublime
quality, written with humour and refiniment but full of genuine emotion and wanting in any trace of
sentimentalism, too. However the light and ironic relation Rossini had with musical conventions did
not preclude him tram facing new expressive forms. Several years later, some characteristics of this art
are still present in the miniatures by Erik Satie. Un Mot à Paganini (Elégie), for violin and piano, and
Une Larme, Thème et Variations for cello and piano (both compositions are still waiting far their
publication) are certainly the gems of this recording. At the beginning of Un Mot à Paganini, a short
motive is insistely propounded by piano, as a kind of sigh constantly repeated and developed
contrapuntally by figurations of violin, having similar expressive purposes. During the melodic
repetitive modulation of piano, there is a moment a harmonic metamorphosis is proposed in: the above

explains the process of decision making in management. Managers make decisions every day and
have to live with the consequences. In the moment decisions sometimes ignore long term
consequences, especially the unforeseen ones. That s why managers need to see the big picture and
begin the decision making process with planning and defining the goal. This chapter explains how
companies should approach decision making to satisfy both short and long term success. In this news
related article to Twitter decision makings, it exemplifies the importance of the actual person of who is
making the decisions. According to this article, twitter shares increased after news that its chief
executive Dick Costolo will step down. Costolo, who resigned voluntarily, has been the subject of
scrutiny over the company slow user growth and advertising struggle. Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey
will resume serving as the temporary Ceo until a replacement is found. This article relates to our

Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi, By Anne Moody
Being born into a racially divided society, such as America during slavery and the decades after the
Civil War, does not mean that you are born with the knowledge of racism. Racism is something that
we are not born with and that we are raised to experience, follow, or fix. During the 19th century and
all the way up till mid 20th century, racism was one of the biggest issues in America. Former slaves
and anyone who had lived in America for some time, was aware of the racial tension that traveled
through the heart of the nation and only got worse the more south you go. In Anne Moody s
autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Moody s life is told through her eyes. It goes through
her childhood until her participation in the Civil Rights movement. One of the major parts in the book
is her slowly realizing the racial divide in America and the disadvantages that her skin color had come
with. All the racism Moody experienced as a child until she was an adolescent led to her decision to
become part of the Civil Rights movement. Growing up in rural Mississippi was a childhood filled
with racism, segregation, and intimidation. These came with every childhood, black or white.
Growing up in rural Mississippi as a black child just added more complications like disadvantages,
lower quality of life, the risk of being lynched, and many more horrors. This was the reality for Anne
Moody. Anne Moody was a young, black girl who grew up living with her father, mother and younger
siblings.

Heroes Are Not Born Heroes
Hero. According to Webster s New World Dictionary, a hero is defined as any person, male or female,
admired for courage, nobility, etc (Webster s New World Dictionary, hero 1 ). Webster s Pocket
Dictionary, comparably, defines a hero as a person of great courage, spirit, etc., especially one who has
undergone great danger or difficulty (Webster s Pocket Dictionary, hero 3 ). Heroes are not born
heroes. Yes, everyone is born with the ability to become a hero, but in time, they may or may not
become one. In our society, heroes are greatly acclaimed in the media. Whenever some person takes a
bullet for a loved one or save a child from a burning building, there is a huge deal made about it, and
they become known as heroes. But a person does not have to physically save someone s life to be a
hero. A hero can also be someone who simply stands up for what he or she believes. Much like Atticus
Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, a hero can be someone who knows what is right and does the right
thing, even if he is ridiculed for doing so. Also, whether or not a person is a hero depends on the
perspective of the person. For instance, a little girl may think her father is the greatest man alive, but
her first grade classmate does not think so instead, she thinks her father is a hero. The daughters of the
man who is known for deterring United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001 definitely think him
a hero, as does his wife and the public ( Wives of Passengers on Flight 93 ).

Borderline Personality Theory
Application of Contemporary Cognitive Behavioral Theory to Borderline Personality Disorder
Student Name
Institutional affiliation Cognitive Behavioral Theory of Borderline Personality Disorder
Introduction
Borderline Personality Disorder is a major mental condition that affects the ability of a person to
manage emotions effectively. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) usually starts in early adulthood
or adolescence. People suffering from BPD may appear to be leading normal lives, but in the real
sense have troublesome private lives. People with the BPD condition suffer from problems that
regulate their thoughts and emotions (Lawson, 2000). They also have reckless and impulsive behavior
that makes it hard for them to maintain stable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A study on the neurobiology of borderline personality disorder requires reviewing the anatomical
structures as well as epigenetic and genetic factors contributing to the pathophysiology of the disorder.
Studies concerning the neurobiology of BPD have focused on direct visualization of the structure and
functioning of the brain using neuroimaging (Buchheim et al. 2006). A meta analysis of the volume of
the brain shows that a person with borderline personality disorder has a reduced volume of right
hippocampus gray and left amygdala. A meta analysis of fMRI (functional MRI) shows that people
with the disorder have heightened activation in the left hippocampus, left amygdala, and posterior
cingulate cortex when the brain processes negative emotional stimuli (Meares, 2012). When the brain
is processing negative emotional stimuli, some parts of the brain such as the dorsal lateral prefrontal
cortex have diminished activation. A meta analysis of MRI shows that the insula has heightened
activity while the subgenual anterior cingulate cortex has less activation in people with the borderline
personality disorder (Buchheim et al.

Lean manufacturing and Theory of Constraints:
The hypothesis of constraints may be an extremely powerful technique for shop floor administration
for a few manufacturers, however in numerous mass customization circumstances it will be hard to
execute because of its substantial dependence on a steady and consistent constraint in the system. At
the point when considering the capacity of TOC to help in making productive mass customization, it is
vital to consider the high variability that will be available. It has been found that once the DBR
component is actualized, the constraint can shift because of variety in the system (Goldratt, 2004), and
these occasional shifts must be recognized and the system adjusted likewise. With mass customization,
numerous organizations will manage high work content variety from every work piece to the
following, accordingly it is likely that the constraint will shift oftentimes, with a higher impact for low

Examples Of The American Dream In Cold Blood
How the American Dream Doesn t Exist Regardless of the person, everyone has an idea of what the
American Dream is. Whether it be success, or something more, the connotations held with that phrase
almost always symbolize an ideal, a goal. Truman Capote contrasts this idea in his novel In Cold
Blood by detailing the lives of those who were involved in the Clutter murders in Holcomb, Kansas.
Capote utilizes his novel to illustrate to [specific readers] that the idealistic American Dream varies
from individual to individual, yet it is one of the most elusive goals of all.
A typical run of the mill rural family. What could go wrong with their ideal American Dream? The

However, once they had been brutally murdered, their dream slipped through their cold, dead fingers.
Capote used the Clutter family as his first example of the fleeting American Dream because they

Dream. Specifically detailing their lives prior to the murders, Capote manipulates the his language to
portray a specific image: respected, cherished by churchgoers, but overall, average (Capote 6, 35, 36).
Through the use of his precise diction and the anecdotes leading up to their untimely deaths, Capote
elucidates the reality that the American Dream is elusive to practically all, even those who lead
seemingly perfect and average lives. Capote also utilizes the story of Bonnie Clutter to illustrate how
the American Dream is different for all, but hardly attainable. In utilizing the anecdote of her life,
Bonnie was described to be the only daughter, and

Cardiac Tamponade Lab Report
Cardiac Tamponade is a life threatening medical complication in which blood or fluids fill the area
between the sac that encases the heart and the heart muscle, placing tremendous pressure on the heart.
The extreme pressure restrains the heart s ventricles from extending fully and keeps the heart from
functioning normally. The heart is not able to pump enough blood to the rest of your body, which
could lead to organ failure, hypotension, shock, and in the worst case possible even death. According
to (NCBI) 2 out of 10,000 people can end up getting the condition. (Barwell, 2012) This pressure is
enough to back up blood returning to the heart as well. There are many different things that can cause
the onset of cardiac tamponade. There are several types of test that can be performed to see if the
individual presents the signs of cardiac tamponade. An Echocardiogram is the main test that is used in
diagnosing and determining if the patient has cardiac tamponade. While performing an

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell
The human mind is vast and intricate, yet responsive. Everyone has their own special abilities and
talents. Eidetic memory, artistic brilliance, and mathematical mastery are all special skills possessed
by very few, but the one that Gladwell glorifies in his non fiction story, Blink , is the power of
thinking without thinking. He discusses how certain people s subconscious mind has the capacity to
respond to complex dilemmas and situations in less than two seconds. Similar to talents such as

couple could have had any beverage to drink but the man suggested they drink beer and then he
emphasized big ones. This was an indication that the couple was dealing with something serious. In
paragraph 87 when the girl did not want to talk anymore, she then asked if they could have another
beer (Stanford 841). It is human nature to avoid problems, as this couple is doing. Why do people
drink? People develop dependencies, to cope with troubles. In relation to Hemingway, he was among
the many literary writers who were alcoholics. He even said, That all good writers are drinking writers

He became so emotionally depressed he vowed to kill himself by Christmas if his love affair had not

his parents. They did not grant approval to his literary works. Hemingway s mother had even referred

Jim Jones Cult Theory
Sociologists view cult behavior as a deviance from society s norm. There are many theories as to why
a cult leader forms a cult and how they garner such complete blind devotion from their members.
While researching Jim Jones and The Peoples Temple I discovered that this particular cult adhered to
several of the proven theories. Jones had few societal bonds and used fear and intimidation to control
his members. He was an extreme socialist turned communist; when his original goals were met with
resistance, he chose the path of rebellion, which was to reject society s goals and seek to provide his
own goals and means to accomplish them (Henslin, 2015). Jim Jones was born in a small town in
Indiana. His father was a disabled WWI veteran who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Land was purchased in Guyana and The Peoples Temple relocated with the intention of forming a
utopian commune, more than 1,000 members followed Jones to Guyana (Rosenburg, 2016).
Unfortunately, there was nothing utopian about Jonestown. The commune was run like a prison camp
and Jones was in complete control of all members; no one could leave, phone calls to the States were
scripted, letters in and out were censored, and armed guards stood at the perimeters (pbs.org). Since
communications were severely restricted, Jones began preaching fear to maintain his control; the Ku
Klux clan was taking over American cities, nuclear war was on the horizon, and concentration camps
were being built to house blacks and political activists (pbs.org). He would preach constantly over the
loudspeaker, sometimes all night long, and initiated suicide drills, which he termed revolutionary
suicide. These so called, white nights , where he would give the members a cup of red liquid that they
were told held poison, which they were then ordered to drink. Later, they were told it was not
poisoned and they had passed the loyalty test (Biography.com, 2014). Jones told his members that,
their deaths would be honored by the world as a symbolic protest against the evils of mankind. He
would further tell them that the faithful would then be transformed and go to live with him on another

John Ford s Film is Almost The Grapes of Wrath by John...
One of the greatest novels of all time, John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath, is a well known
American classic. Renowned for its portrayal of the struggle of migrant families during the Dust
Bowl; the novel not only details the Joad family s 1500 mile journey from Oklahoma to California but
that of all migrant workers. The Joad s travels reflect the hardships migrant workers had to face while
trying to survive in a country that hated and feared them. The novel was published in 1939, and one
year later it was made into a motion picture. John Ford s film, also titled The Grapes of Wrath, was a
major success, and a marvelous adaptation. However, while visually satisfying, the film does not
convey the depth or intensity of Steinbeck s classic. Neither a loose, nor truly close adaptation, The
Grapes of Wrath falls into the category of an intermediate film. The Grapes of Wrath fails to convey a
vital theme of the novel, the relationships cultivated not just between the Joad s, but between all of the
migrant families.
Cutting characters is a regular occurrence in filmmaking, but in a novel like The Grapes of Wrath it
takes away from the message of growing kinship. The idea of family plays a huge role in this novel.
The Joad s most important goal is the keep the family unbroke. Yet, the film only gives characters
important to the novel a superficial glance. Pa, Uncle John and Rose of Sharon are set in the
background with little characterization. Noah Joad literally disappears

Why Did Thoreau Use Satire
Thoreau repeatedly utilizes satire to mock violent conflicts and show the futility and insignificance of
wars between disparate groups, which directly applies to racial tensions and the presidential debate in
today s American society. Thoreau mocks conflict during the time by comparing it to an ant war,
demonstrating the unimportance of the issues. Thoreau compares a war of ants to the conflict between
two political parties: Republicans and Imperialists. While using satire to mock modern day conflicts of
the time, Thoreau states, I have no doubt that it was a principle they fought for, as much as our
ancestors, and not to avoid a three penny tax on their tea; and the results of this battle will be as

A conflict over a three penny tax will have as much of an impact on American history as the battle of
Bunker Hill because of the way people react to conflict. His ideology about war is that it is often futile
and consequences greatly outweigh what is gained. The Battle of Bunker Hill was one of the most
significant battles of the Revolutionary War over the siege of Boston, but a disagreement over a
meaningless task can cause a war just as tolling. An issue as insignificant as a small tax can lead to
millions of deaths because groups are not able to come together and make a compromise. In addition,
Thoreau details, The legions of these Myrmidons covered all the hills ... the ground was already
strewn with the dead and dying, both red and black, (262). The different colors of the ants represent
the two political parties, but also the role of race in American conflict. Something as seemingly
insignificant as the color of one s skin has caused mass destruction of all kinds throughout the entirety
of American history because people are unable to see past the conflict and come together. Also,
Thoreau claims that both sides are affected by death as the ground was covered

The Varsity Crew Team
Our presentation will summarize the Army Crew Team Case, discussing the differing leadership
characteristics between the Varsity Crew and the Junior Varsity Crew. In 1852, Harvard and Yale had
their respective crews compete against one another, which began the tradition of sports in American
universities. Today s standards require that crewmates make a year long commitment to the team.
However, the racing that we commonly associate with crew does not occur until Spring. The ultimate
goal of a crew team is to win against its opponents in these races, which focuses on the task pressures
within a crew team. In addition, crewmates must move at the same pace, because the outperformance,
or hubris, of one crewmate could slow down the shell. The US Olympic Committee surveyed dozens
of crew coaches indicating which dimensions they thought were most important for achieving top
performance. They asked coaches with little and lots of experience to indicate the importance of ...

Weak Levels of Consistency in Practice
The article describes about the SQL standard levels. SQL means the Standard Query Language. In
SQL different types of queries are being involved and different types of operations are being
performed under it. SQL often means the collection of the large number of tables. SQL Create
statement is used for creating the tables. Basically create statement is used for performing any type of
operation. After creating the table only we can perform any type of operation like insert, update and
delete. An example for create statement is create table customer( customer_id int, customer_name
varchar(50), customer_city varchar(50), salary int);. Here under the customer table we have created
four columns. Customer_id is declared as integer, customer_name and customer city is declared as
varchar, salary is declared as integer. After creating the customer table we can insert values into the
table. The values are being inserted using the insert into statement. The values are inserted into the
customer table like this. Insert into customer values( 1001 , dheeraj , hyderabad , 10000 ). Here in the
above example we have inserted the four values into it. That is 1001 value is being inserted into the
customer_id, dheeraj value is being inserted into the customer_name, hyderabad value is being
inserted into the customer_city, and 10000 value is being inserted into the salary.

Why Is Violence Become Such Part Of The Transnational Drug...
Why has violence become such part of the transnational drug culture? The violence is a topic widely
discussed in different journalistic media: newspapers, magazines, radio and television programs, as
well as being a topic of debate among State officials; however, we have so far been able to say who
we are organized on the left. Maybe because we do not consider it to be the main problem of the
people abuse in the country, perhaps because it is a problem that we consider to be foreign, or
permanently in the official discourse. However at this point it is undeniable that there is currently a
situation in our country in which drug trafficking and the increase of social violence linked to it have
reached a level such that it is difficult to continue to elude the discussion; Moreover, it is important
that we use our own analytical tools to explain it, in my case I will use the best analytical tool we have
so far, Marxism.
On the other hand I have to clarify that I do this writing by way of essay because I consider that the
journalistic information about the drug cartels, their rivalries, operations and composition is not
reliable. In most cases they are reports and leaks of a police character, rumors and sayings of the
involved ones that result in the end; confusing, contradictory and deceptive.

Alcohol Abuse In Adolescence Essay
Alcohol Abuse in Adolescence Khoa Nguyen San Jose State University The period of adolescence,
from the age of 10 21, is one of the most critical and pivotal stages of the development of human
beings. Although adolescence only covers roughly ten years, or about one seventh of the entire human
lifespan, decisions and actions made during this period of time can have drastic effects on the
individual further down his/her life. Part of being an adolescent is experiencing new things, and
testing out different types of identities to see which fits best. Erikson, a German born American
developmental psychologist, characterized this part of lifespan development as identity v.s. identity
confusion(Erikson s Stages of Development, 2016). Erikson believed that during this period in an
adolescent s life, they are faced with deciding who they are, what they are all about, and where they
are going in life(Santrock, 2015). Part of finding that identity might come with trying new substances
like alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other harmful drugs. Unfortunately, sometimes their first try of
the new substance does not become their last. Especially with alcohol, these drugs can be highly
addictive and mistreated, translating to abuse. With their young unstable developing minds and with
the easy accessibility and social acceptance of liquor, it seems like the adolescent age is bound on a
crash course towards the abusement of alcohol. What is Alcohol

The Earl Of Rochester And Jonathan Swift
When reading Eighteenth Century literature it is clear that the concept of one s privacy was non
existent, particularly in poetry. Poets of this period were more aware of the growing public readership
they had as a result of developments in education, and people from each class were now able to access
poetry. This meant what was published had a greater impact on society, as poetry became increasingly
[...] a more public form of expression (Goring, P. p.64) for writer s opinions on political and private
matters. The Earl of Rochester and Jonathan Swift both portrayed the private world to this public

An imperfect picture is created of Rochester s private world compared to his public life, and the
negative effects the early Eighteenth Century libertarian lifestyle has had on him. His demeaning
language and its comparison with an ideal scenario create the satire that is needed to bring Rochester s
private world into the public world.
Swift on the other hand is trying to expose the private world of a lady s dressing room, something new
to society at the time, and he does this through satirically comparing the public and private versions of
women. Tita Chico argues in Privacy and Speculation in Eighteenth Century Britain that there were
[...] exclusive privileges associated with the privacy of the gentleman s closet (p.42) which were now
seen as being threatened by women s dressing rooms. There was a feeling of fear about what women
might get up to in private and Swift exposes a satirised reality in his poem which [...] links women s
privacy with illegitimacy through grotesque images of the female body (p. 41). Throughout Eighteenth

Examples Of Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel
The Holocaust came in 1933, splitting Jewish families apart and causing the relationship among the
individuals who remained together to change. During the novel, Eliezer and his father experience
many different changes in the relationship. Three of these included the average relationship a father
and son had, trying to convince one another that they would be perfectly fine, and eventually telling
each other the reality of what was going to happen to stop disappointing not only themselves, but each
other as well. Eliezer and his father, through the horrific events of the Holocaust, have provided an
insight on how a relationship was tested but remained strong as they watched others fall apart. Before
the Jewish community and families were ripped apart, Eliezer and his father had a fairly average
relationship. Though he honored his father majority of the time, he still dishonored him when he was
told he was too young to study Kabbalah, and obtained Moishe the Beadle to help him study anyway. I
succeeded on my own in finding a master for myself in the person of Moishe the Beadle (Wiesel 4).

Post Colonial Mexico Essay
The history of Post colonial Mexico included many successful and influential leaders: Porfirio Diaz,
Francisco Madero, Francisco (Pancho) Villa, and Emiliano Zapata. Disparities in classification of the
revolution arise from the numerous factions and ideological assumptions advocated for the overthrow
of Diaz s rule, hence one can argue that it was a political, social, or economical revolution. A social
revolution advocates a complete transformation of all characteristic aspects of society, encompassing
the political structure, economically distribution, and social hierarchy. These men set forth some major
objectives to revive Mexico that led to the Mexico Revolution of 1910 1916 and the Constitution of

the city of Casas Grandes in Chihuahua and defeated Diaz s federals. Madero and his men continued
attacking other cities and they were warned not to get too close to the U.S. border because it might

Pascal Orozco and Francisco Villa, were eager to fight. They attacked Juarez against Madero s orders,

The Question Of Human Existence
The question of human existence is a lingering theme in modern philosophy. This controversial
inquiry has led philosophers on tangents about whether or not the mind is separable from the body.
René Descartes, often referred to as the father of modern philosophy, first questioned this idea. The
17th century French philosopher stood out for being an intense rationalist. Rationalism is the belief in
knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. In a time when many philosophers backed
up their arguments with religion, Descartes trusted in nothing more than logic. Due to rapid new
discoveries in science, that were proving many old theories to be wrong, Descartes believed
philosophy needed a fresh start. This fresh start would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes decides to try to build his foundation on this notion of ridding himself of bias opinions and
allowing himself to fall into a whirlpool of doubt. He receives this idea by reminiscing on past beliefs
that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example, children believe in
Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find something he could deem
as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that will help discover if we indeed
exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether we exist, Descartes began by
observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins by stating, Surely whatever I had
admitted until now as most true I received either from the senses or through the senses (60). He then
goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of
prudence never to place our complete trust in those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in
this argument is to show that our knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past
our senses have fooled us. Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our
senses have been wrong countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to
our sense of sight. One could not see past the horizon, therefore the earth must be level with our
eyesight. Science then proved this

Theme Of Glory In The Iliad
Andy Dai
Term Paper 1
The idea of kleos otherwise known as glory in Greek, and honor is one of the most essential motifs of
the Iliad. For many warriors depicted in the Iliad, honor was vital and personal. For many, Glory
earned in battle was more important than one s life. Glory or the lack of, was remembered long after
one s life. Possibly the greatest fundamental part of honor to the fighters of the Iliad was courage in
battle as shown throughout multiple books. Throughout the course of this book we can see how
different characters display these traits and how they influence the course of the war. Even though the
Achaeans and Trojans are enemies they display a similar view, the acquisition of glory is more

By taking the wife of Menelaus, he had dishonored him. While his brother is described as a great
warrior, Paris is a described by Homer as a pretty boy that has success with women due to his charm.
However, none of those traits seem to matter because he shies away from battle and he is mainly the
object of disdain. In chapter 3, Paris didn t have the courage to fight Menelaos for his own wrong
doing. In chapter 6, as Hector arrives back to the city to make a sacrifice he sees Paris whom is not

most reliable forms of evidence when it comes to the court system. Recently many cases have been
brought up where the use of the eyewitness testimony has failed and put an innocent citizen into jail

  • 3. Group Minds, By Doris Lessing We, as humans, like to believe that we always stand out in a crowd and never conform to please society. We hold our freedom to be individuals higher than most of our other freedoms. Humans believe that we always use this individualism to speak our opinions. We think that we would never change our views to comply with a group. As much as we would like to believe this, it seems that more often than not, we tend to follow the crowd. In her article Group Minds , Doris Lessing was on the right track when she described how humans stand for choice and individualism, but when faced with the situation, most tend to fall in line with the majority. As humans, we are drawn to groups for numerous reasons. Society as a whole is very social. When you are a part of a group it allows you to be sociable. Additionally, we are drawn to these groups because we have a craving to feel wanted. Humans enjoy the feeling of being wanted. Another reason we are drawn together is we want to fit in. We desire to be accepted by others and fear judgement if we don t agree with everyone else. This then causes us to conform to the rest of society and act in a similar fashion. Humans wish to be accepted, and we try not to draw attention to ourselves because of this. Love, support, and affection is what we gain from these groups. Qualities such as these are what draws us to groups. In time of despair we tend to lean on the other members to prevent us from sinking. Weaknesses: https://www.cms.gov/Research Statistics Data and Systems/CMS Information Technology/XLC/Downloads/SelectingDevelopmentApproach.pdf However, there are lots of weaknesses for Waterfall during development. The Waterfall model is not flexible and it s too slow and costly because of the process cannot be changed and need to ensure each step finish before move to next one. Because of this structure, the process cannot move backward and relay on the design and documentation in the beginning, for example, it will be difficult and might need to start from beginning again if clients want to change their requirements. During the development, there will be no test for the program (only basic test) so some bugs or problems can t be found until system test step and they need to fix the bugs and problems based on capacity. It wastes lots of time to update all documentation, in addition, some specifications will be difficult for users to read and understand. http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/124732/Software Development Methodologies In short, Waterfall can work well when everything is following the plan because the model rely on all specification and documentation which finished before implement it, in another word, it s easy to cause a failure or over budget because of changing requirements. 3, ... The Music Of The Musical Life After his retiring from the public musical life, at the height of his career (his last opera is dated 1829), the Maestro lived enough to see a new fruitful creative period in his old age. From 1857 on, he wrote pieces of chamber music far several instrumental formations and had them performed at Parisian musical soirées. He, however, thought their publication unadvisale as if they were sins of his old age, Péchés de vieillesse. Really they are a collection of Salonmusik : a quite original one of sublime quality, written with humour and refiniment but full of genuine emotion and wanting in any trace of sentimentalism, too. However the light and ironic relation Rossini had with musical conventions did not preclude him tram facing new expressive forms. Several years later, some characteristics of this art are still present in the miniatures by Erik Satie. Un Mot à Paganini (Elégie), for violin and piano, and Une Larme, Thème et Variations for cello and piano (both compositions are still waiting far their publication) are certainly the gems of this recording. At the beginning of Un Mot à Paganini, a short motive is insistely propounded by piano, as a kind of sigh constantly repeated and developed contrapuntally by figurations of violin, having similar expressive purposes. During the melodic repetitive modulation of piano, there is a moment a harmonic metamorphosis is proposed in: the above mentioned characteristics of an unconventional way of preceeding reveal themselves just ... Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi, By Anne Moody Being born into a racially divided society, such as America during slavery and the decades after the Civil War, does not mean that you are born with the knowledge of racism. Racism is something that we are not born with and that we are raised to experience, follow, or fix. During the 19th century and all the way up till mid 20th century, racism was one of the biggest issues in America. Former slaves and anyone who had lived in America for some time, was aware of the racial tension that traveled through the heart of the nation and only got worse the more south you go. In Anne Moody s autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Moody s life is told through her eyes. It goes through her childhood until her participation in the Civil Rights movement. One of the major parts in the book is her slowly realizing the racial divide in America and the disadvantages that her skin color had come with. All the racism Moody experienced as a child until she was an adolescent led to her decision to become part of the Civil Rights movement. Growing up in rural Mississippi was a childhood filled with racism, segregation, and intimidation. These came with every childhood, black or white. Growing up in rural Mississippi as a black child just added more complications like disadvantages, lower quality of life, the risk of being lynched, and many more horrors. This was the reality for Anne Moody. Anne Moody was a young, black girl who grew up living with her father, mother and younger siblings. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Webster s New World Dictionary, a hero is defined as any person, male or female, admired for courage, nobility, etc (Webster s New World Dictionary, hero 1 ). Webster s Pocket Dictionary, comparably, defines a hero as a person of great courage, spirit, etc., especially one who has undergone great danger or difficulty (Webster s Pocket Dictionary, hero 3 ). Heroes are not born heroes. Yes, everyone is born with the ability to become a hero, but in time, they may or may not become one. In our society, heroes are greatly acclaimed in the media. Whenever some person takes a bullet for a loved one or save a child from a burning building, there is a huge deal made about it, and they become known as heroes. But a person does not have to physically save someone s life to be a hero. A hero can also be someone who simply stands up for what he or she believes. Much like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, a hero can be someone who knows what is right and does the right thing, even if he is ridiculed for doing so. Also, whether or not a person is a hero depends on the perspective of the person. For instance, a little girl may think her father is the greatest man alive, but her first grade classmate does not think so instead, she thinks her father is a hero. The daughters of the man who is known for deterring United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001 definitely think him a hero, as does his wife and the public ( Wives of Passengers on Flight 93 ). ... Renowned for its portrayal of the struggle of migrant families during the Dust Bowl; the novel not only details the Joad family s 1500 mile journey from Oklahoma to California but that of all migrant workers. The Joad s travels reflect the hardships migrant workers had to face while trying to survive in a country that hated and feared them. The novel was published in 1939, and one year later it was made into a motion picture. John Ford s film, also titled The Grapes of Wrath, was a major success, and a marvelous adaptation. However, while visually satisfying, the film does not convey the depth or intensity of Steinbeck s classic. Neither a loose, nor truly close adaptation, The Grapes of Wrath falls into the category of an intermediate film. The Grapes of Wrath fails to convey a vital theme of the novel, the relationships cultivated not just between the Joad s, but between all of the migrant families. Cutting characters is a regular occurrence in filmmaking, but in a novel like The Grapes of Wrath it takes away from the message of growing kinship. Bud went to the proving grounds in the desert around Phoenix and spent a day watching the vehicle demonstrations. Bud and other dealers drove the vehicles, and much dust resulted from their driving. A few weeks later, Bud became ill with flu like symptoms. He was finally diagnosed as having coccidioidomycosis or valley fever. Valley fever is a disease well known to Arizona residents, and most have had it if they have lived there over 10 years. Newcomers are particularly vulnerable to the disease because the exposure to dust seems to build up immunity among the residents. • 30. Why Is Violence Become Such Part Of The Transnational Drug... Why has violence become such part of the transnational drug culture? The violence is a topic widely discussed in different journalistic media: newspapers, magazines, radio and television programs, as well as being a topic of debate among State officials; however, we have so far been able to say who we are organized on the left. Maybe because we do not consider it to be the main problem of the people abuse in the country, perhaps because it is a problem that we consider to be foreign, or permanently in the official discourse. However at this point it is undeniable that there is currently a situation in our country in which drug trafficking and the increase of social violence linked to it have reached a level such that it is difficult to continue to elude the discussion; Moreover, it is important that we use our own analytical tools to explain it, in my case I will use the best analytical tool we have so far, Marxism. On the other hand I have to clarify that I do this writing by way of essay because I consider that the journalistic information about the drug cartels, their rivalries, operations and composition is not reliable. In most cases they are reports and leaks of a police character, rumors and sayings of the involved ones that result in the end; confusing, contradictory and deceptive. Thus, my purpose will be to point out some structural and essential aspects for the understanding of the problem, regardless of the concrete analysis of such a business . The role of ... • 32. Alcohol Abuse In Adolescence Essay Alcohol Abuse in Adolescence Khoa Nguyen San Jose State University The period of adolescence, from the age of 10 21, is one of the most critical and pivotal stages of the development of human beings. Although adolescence only covers roughly ten years, or about one seventh of the entire human lifespan, decisions and actions made during this period of time can have drastic effects on the individual further down his/her life. Part of being an adolescent is experiencing new things, and testing out different types of identities to see which fits best. Erikson, a German born American developmental psychologist, characterized this part of lifespan development as identity v.s. identity confusion(Erikson s Stages of Development, 2016). Erikson believed that during this period in an adolescent s life, they are faced with deciding who they are, what they are all about, and where they are going in life(Santrock, 2015). Part of finding that identity might come with trying new substances like alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and other harmful drugs. Unfortunately, sometimes their first try of the new substance does not become their last. Especially with alcohol, these drugs can be highly addictive and mistreated, translating to abuse. With their young unstable developing minds and with the easy accessibility and social acceptance of liquor, it seems like the adolescent age is bound on a crash course towards the abusement of alcohol. Poets of this period were more aware of the growing public readership they had as a result of developments in education, and people from each class were now able to access poetry. This meant what was published had a greater impact on society, as poetry became increasingly [...] a more public form of expression (Goring, P. p.64) for writer s opinions on political and private matters. An imperfect picture is created of Rochester s private world compared to his public life, and the negative effects the early Eighteenth Century libertarian lifestyle has had on him. His demeaning language and its comparison with an ideal scenario create the satire that is needed to bring Rochester s private world into the public world. Swift on the other hand is trying to expose the private world of a lady s dressing room, something new to society at the time, and he does this through satirically comparing the public and private versions of women. Tita Chico argues in Privacy and Speculation in Eighteenth Century Britain that there were [...] exclusive privileges associated with the privacy of the gentleman s closet (p.42) which were now seen as being threatened by women s dressing rooms. Examples Of Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel The Holocaust came in 1933, splitting Jewish families apart and causing the relationship among the individuals who remained together to change. During the novel, Eliezer and his father experience many different changes in the relationship. Three of these included the average relationship a father and son had, trying to convince one another that they would be perfectly fine, and eventually telling each other the reality of what was going to happen to stop disappointing not only themselves, but each other as well. Eliezer and his father, through the horrific events of the Holocaust, have provided an insight on how a relationship was tested but remained strong as they watched others fall apart. Before the Jewish community and families were ripped apart, Eliezer and his father had a fairly average relationship. Though he honored his father majority of the time, he still dishonored him when he was told he was too young to study Kabbalah, and obtained Moishe the Beadle to help him study anyway. I succeeded on my own in finding a master for myself in the person of Moishe the Beadle (Wiesel 4). Disparities in classification of the revolution arise from the numerous factions and ideological assumptions advocated for the overthrow of Diaz s rule, hence one can argue that it was a political, social, or economical revolution. A social revolution advocates a complete transformation of all characteristic aspects of society, encompassing the political structure, economically distribution, and social hierarchy. The countryside and city joined together under the leadership of Francisco Madero to overthrow Porfirio Diaz after 1910. There were a number of revolts and uprisings around the country in Madero s name. In February 1911, Madero and his men attached the city of Casas Grandes in Chihuahua and defeated Diaz s federals. Madero and his men continued attacking other cities and they were warned not to get too close to the U.S. border because it might hurt Americans in the process of them fighting within their own country. However, his generals, Pascal Orozco and Francisco Villa, were eager to fight. They attacked Juarez against Madero s orders, and defeated Diaz s federal troops again. On May 1911, a peace treaty was signed and Porfirio Diaz agreed to resign and to go into exile. On November 1911, Francisco I. Madero became the first new President of Mexico in almost 30 years. From the beginning, he was a moderate. He wanted to challenge Diaz, but he did not want to institute policies that went against the rich landowner class to which his family belonged. • 37. The Question Of Human Existence The question of human existence is a lingering theme in modern philosophy. This controversial inquiry has led philosophers on tangents about whether or not the mind is separable from the body. René Descartes, often referred to as the father of modern philosophy, first questioned this idea. The 17th century French philosopher stood out for being an intense rationalist. Rationalism is the belief in knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. In a time when many philosophers backed up their arguments with religion, Descartes trusted in nothing more than logic. Due to rapid new discoveries in science, that were proving many old theories to be wrong, Descartes believed philosophy needed a fresh start. This fresh start would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descartes decides to try to build his foundation on this notion of ridding himself of bias opinions and allowing himself to fall into a whirlpool of doubt. He receives this idea by reminiscing on past beliefs that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example, children believe in Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find something he could deem as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that will help discover if we indeed exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether we exist, Descartes began by observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins by stating, Surely whatever I had admitted until now as most true I received either from the senses or through the senses (60). He then goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of prudence never to place our complete trust in those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in this argument is to show that our knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past our senses have fooled us. Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our senses have been wrong countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to our sense of sight. One could not see past the horizon, therefore the earth must be level with our eyesight. Science then proved this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For many warriors depicted in the Iliad, honor was vital and personal. For many, Glory earned in battle was more important than one s life. Glory or the lack of, was remembered long after one s life. Possibly the greatest fundamental part of honor to the fighters of the Iliad was courage in battle as shown throughout multiple books. However, none of those traits seem to matter because he shies away from battle and he is mainly the object of disdain. In chapter 3, Paris didn t have the courage to fight Menelaos for his own wrong doing. In chapter 6, as Hector arrives back to the city to make a sacrifice he sees Paris whom is not involved in the fighting. Another character that is depicted as dishonorable is seen in Book 2. Agamemnon decides to test the desire and courage of his soldiers by suggesting a retreat. The results were definitely counter to what Agamemnon intended, his troops quickly prepared their ships to depart. Odysseus quickly rallies the troops and reminds them of Calchas prophecy. However, one soldier Thersites whom is described as deformed and ugly (perhaps a metaphor because of his dishonor) argues that the war isn t worth fighting. Odysseus quickly scolds Thersites and infers that Thersites has no honor because he does not wish to continue to fight. Odysseus then goes on to hit Thersites with a scepter and the Achaeans agree to fight again.
