Kyoto Protocol Of The Unfccc ( 2005 )
The Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC (2005)
1. Introduction
Founded on the belief that humans are ultimately responsible for global warming, the Kyoto Protocol
was signed in 1997 and made effective in 2005 with the aim of reducing national quantitative
greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% (compared with emissions in 1990) in industrialised countries
worldwide. This would equate to a 29% cut overall by 2010. The protocol intends to specifically
reduce global emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride, HFCs and
PFCs (www.kyotoprotocol.com). The protocol was later revised in its second commitment period
stating that an 18% cut (compared with 1990) in emissions between 2013 2020 would be its next
target. The Kyoto Protocol created three market based mechanisms...known as the carbon market to
support its targets (UNFCCC). These mechanisms covered emissions trading, the clean development
mechanism (CDM) and joint implementation. Combined, the mechanisms are geared towards
encouraging sustainable development using technology and investment, reducing emissions in an
economically viable way and stimulating developing countries to reduce their emissions too.
International cooperation was essential for the Kyoto Protocol to be enforced and achieve its aims. As
the protocol seeks to reduce greenhouse emissions globally, efforts are needed from all industrialised
countries emitting harmful gases into the Earth s atmosphere. Without adequate participation

Research in Educational Psychology Assignment
Topic
There are numerous motivational theories that have been discussed and tested. Different students
unknowingly, or sometimes knowingly, utilize different theories since no two students are alike. Many
teachers acknowledge that different students are motivated by different things, whether it be intrinsic
extrinsic, self efficacy or interest. Not only can gender and age differences affect motivation, but the
student s self efficacy and level of goal setting also affect the student s motivation. As a teacher, it has
been noted that certain students are motivated to do certain tasks while others are not. In order to
learn, students need to be motivated. One of the most difficult challenges of teaching is fighting the
battle of motivating the students, which then leads to supporting them and helping them motivate
themselves.
Textbook Summary
The textbook definition for motivation is the inner state that energizes, directs, and sustains behavior.
(Ormrod, 2015, p. 186) It goes on to state that humans usually tend to work with a purpose.
Motivation not only influences the activities that learners choose, but it also affects the degree to
which they engage in those activities (Ormrod, 2015, p. 186). While teachers do play a big part in
motivating students, motivation also has to come from within the students. In order for students to feel
motivated, they must have certain primary

3M Company’s Liquidity Essay
The liquidity position of a company can be evaluated using several ratios which evaluate short term
assets and liabilities and a firm s ability to settle short term debts (Gibson, 2011). These ratios can
provide insight into a firm s ability to repay its debts in the short term (Gibson, 2011). In turn they
suggest a firm s capacity for debt satisfying capabilities into the future (Gibson, 2011). This paper will
use financial statement data as cited in Gibson (2011) from 3M Company (3M) to better understand
liquidity measures to evaluate a firm s total liquidity position. The following paper will focus on
various liquidity calculations, their meaning, and their interpretation relative to 3M. Finally, an overall
view of 3M s liquidity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, an improvement in age of receivables for a single company over multiple periods
suggests a company is becoming more efficient or effective at managing its receivables (Bujaki
Durocher, 2012; Gibson, 2011).
Accounts receivable turnover is the second method by which a company s trade receivables liquidity
can be evaluated (Gibson, 2011). Žager et al. (2012) noted turnover ratios should be as high as
possible as this indicates a firm s ability to convert its assets more often. 3M s accounts receivable
turnover for years 2007 and 2008 is shown in Exhibit 2. In 2007, 3M turned its accounts receivable
over 7.12 times and 7.70 times in 2008. This calculates into a turnover of its accounts receivable every
51.28 days in 2007 and 47.38 days in 2008. The increase in accounts receivable turnover times per
year (decrease in number of days to turnover accounts receivables) from 2007 to 2008 is a positive
trend for 3M. It suggests, along with the prior calculation, the management of receivables is likely to
be improving in efficiency.
A company must pay attention to the number of days of its sales it holds in inventory to determine the
amount of time it will take to convert the inventory on hand into sales (Gibson, 2011). As shown in
Exhibit 3, 3M increased from 81.74 days of sales in inventory in 2007 to 82.20 days in 2008. At face
value, an increase suggests a slight negative trend for 3M as it is holding onto more inventory, taking
longer to sell

Literature Review On Lightweight Concrete
CHAPTER TWO: Literature review
2.1. Lightweight concrete:
2.1.1. Introduction:
Foam balls lightweight concrete (FBLWC) has been a feature in the structural construction owing to
its advantages over the normal weight concrete (NWC). It is a concrete weighing substantially less
than that is made using gravel or crushed stone aggregates. Lightweight aggregate concrete is usually
chosen for structural purposes which its use will lead to a lower overall cost of structure than will be
expected with normal weight concrete.
To gain perspective on the behavior of lightweight concrete, available literature from the previous
research work is reviewed and a review of the codes and standards requirements for this kind of
concrete. This literature review provides an overview of previous work done on lightweight concrete.
This chapter describes the nature of foamed balls concrete, its composition and properties and how it
is used in civil engineering works. Because the properties of foamed concrete can vary widely, and it
can be used in a wide variety of applications, it is important to define performance requirements for
each case.
2.1.2. Historical background:
The history of lightweight concrete production from natural source dates back to pre Roman times.

Aerated concrete is also commonly known as a cellular concrete (Neville and Brooks, 2010). It can be
divided into two main types according to the method of production. They are foamed concrete (non
autoclaved aerated concrete (NAAC)) and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). Foamed concrete is
produced by injecting preformed stable foam or by adding a special air entraining admixture known as
a foaming agent into a base mix of cement paste or mortar (cement+water or cement+sand+water).
The AAC is produced by adding a predetermined amount of aluminum powder and other additives
into slurry of ground high silica sand, cement or lime and water. (Yen, 2006; Li,

Holden Heads To Space Short Story
Holden Heads to Space
I COULDN T TELL YOU HOW I ENDED UP THERE even if I tried. There were these two
government officials, dressed in their suit and ties and all. They came into our class and gave a
presentation on why we should want to go to space. One of them had these glasses that allowed him to
look at us without us knowing. It kinda creeped me out.
The other guy had this obnoxious yellow tie that was phony as hell. I mean I know he s trying to show
he s all sunshine and rainbows, but thats lies we all know he s lying. The tie had these little rockets on
it which made me want to puke even more. They were the rockets in the little cartoon movies. Boy, I
hate movies. They let people be phonies and those people get payed a lot of dough ... Show more

I was told it would help during the take off. I don t really think these scientists know what they re
saying at all. My guess is they get a bang out of watching us gasp for air with these straps strangling
our chests. Those sonuvabitches.
I guess we kinda were mean and all. We were such hot shots, thinking we were going to space and all.
I guess things come to bite you in the ass. But no. These scientists tell me that the food in space is
gonna be better than on earth. I mean, I m a moron, but not that much of a moron. Those phonies with
their lab coats think that they have all the power, but they don t. I guess though, if they wanted to kill
me it would be pretty easy, since I m sitting in a rocket that s gonna jet out thousands of gallons of
flammable fuel in seconds.
Jesus, this rocket probably looks exactly like the rocket on that yellow tie. What a shame. Hopefully
this rocket blows up so I can die as a famous person who sacrificed himself with great dignity for his
country. Man, I would die laughing if I heard that. Holden Caulfield bravely sacrificed himself for his
country the newscaster would say.
The worst part would be that they would show the stupid rocket. Man I hate this rocket. It looks like

Marble Vanities Research
Cultured marble vanities add elegance to your bathroom without the cost of real marble. However,
you may find it scratched during a remodel, but it doesn t mean you have to buy a new cabinet.
The scratches can easily be fixed with some basic tools. You don t want to postpone fixing the
scratches, because it allows water to soak through the cabinet, which risks bacteria spreading. Fix
marble vanity scratches by following these tips.
Prepare to Fix the Scratches
To repair the scratches, you need:
rubber gloves soft cloths mild liquid soap or non abrasive bathroom cleaner
#0000 steel wool pad
400 1500 grit wet and dry sandpaper orbital sander buffer carnauba based auto buffing compound
marble solution gel coat cultured marble repair kit (optional) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If there is wax, remove it with the wool pad Cleaning helps the repair materials stick better, and it
highlights the scratches you may miss.
Buff Minor Scratches
Work in a ventilated area to avoid breathing dust particles and fumes from repair materials. If the
vanity has a honed surface, sand the area using 400 600 wet and dry sandpaper. Sand with 600 1200
grit sandpaper on medium surfaces, and use 1200 to 1500 grit sandpaper on high gloss surfaces.
Sand enough to rough up the surface, but don t sand too hard, and clean sand dust. To restore gloss,
polish the scratched surface with a buffing pad and high speed buffer.
Dab some automotive compound on the cloth, and lightly rub it on the scratch until a haze appears,
then buff the surface again. Repeat the process until the scratch has been removed.
Fix Deeper Scratches and Cracks
Attach 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper to the orbital sander, and mist the surface lightly with water. Sand
the area until you no longer feel scratches, then polish the surface with the automotive compound until
the scratch disappears. Use a marble solution to fill cracks and to lighten yellow

Durkheim And Weber s Theories Of Religion And Modernity
Emile Durkheim and Max Weber are two prominent philosophers whose theories unequivocally
differed on countless themes. The outlooks of Durkheim and Weber contrast however, their general
message in which they attempt to convey are of similar ideologies. When examining Durkheim and
the concept of sacred and profane, one would see how it parallels with Weber s notion of enchantment
and disenchantment. Their stances on religion correspond with each other and despite their distinct
conceptual frameworks and differing perspectives, Durkheim and Weber both offer profound
contributions to the concepts of religion and modernity. Durkheim and Weber both had distinct
theories as they expressed and conceptualized religion and it s impact to society in quite different
ways however, they somehow overall parallel each others theories. Durkheim observed religion in the
context of the integrated society and recognized its place in affecting the reasoning and conduct of
society.Max Weber saw religion as how it fortifies other social organizations. Weber suspected that the
religious belief setup contributed a social system that SUPPORTED the improvement of other social
organizations, like the economy. Weber is also addressing the shrinking hold of religion in modern
society. (Veugelers) This notionally theorizes that both philosophers acknowledge the importance of
religion as influencing and supporting society. As indicated by Durkheim, people consider religion to
be adding to the wellbeing

The Beware Of Dog Sign Posted At Cupcakes For Kids
The Beware of Dog sign posted at Cupcakes for Kids is an absolute defense that will likely remove
Plaintiff from any liability if the Defendant files a counterclaim. According to Florida Statute § 767.04
(2015), an owner is not liable, except as to a person under the age of 6 . . . if at the time of any such
injury the owner had displayed in a prominent place on his or her premises a sign easily readable
including the words Bad Dog. It is essential that the Bad Dog sign or equivalent wording must be
easily readable as well as posted in a prominent place. Carroll v. Moxley, 241 So. 2d 681 (Fla. 1970).
The sign must be easily readable meaning that the sign is legible and capable of being read, not
necessarily that the injured party must have been able to actually read and understand it. Registe v.
Porter, 557 So. 2d 214 (Fla. 2d DCA 1990).
In order to be relieved of liability, an owner must have a prominently placed Bad Dog sign that is
easily readable. In Carroll, the court held that the purpose of having a prominently placed sign that is
easily readable is to give actual notice of the risk of a bite to the victim. Carroll, 241 So. 2d at 682.
The owner of the store in Carroll had a Beware of Dog sign beside the counter of the hardware store.
Id. As the victim stood at the counter, the unseen dog lunged out and bit her on the face. Id. The victim
filed suit against the dog owner and the court found that there was no liability because a Bad Dog sign
was posted.

There are several ways to build the walls and floor so that heat is stored in the day and released at
night. Night and day temperatures, as well as seasonal angles of the sun are things to think about in
terms of location if you plan to build a home that utilizes solar energy, such as an earthship. Dave
Black states An east west axis (90 degrees to true south) allows the longer side of the structure to be
exposed to the sun. That s where the big windows should be. North and east facing windows can lose a
lot of heat in the winter, and west facing glass can cause overheating in summer, so they should be few
and small.(Use overhangs over the windows to protect the interior from too much summer sun.......) .
Earthships are also an environmentally friendly model because of the fact that they can be made from
recycled materials such as tires, cans, beams made from recycled trash, etc. Walls made of stacked
tires filled with cans serve to store and release heat when needed. This fact also makes it a viable
option for a low budget home. Since most, or all, of an earthship can be built with what is essentially
trash, most of your building materials can be found cheap or free, provided you have access to a road
system. There are many other ways to create an off

Storytelling In Storytelling
Besides art based on nature, storytelling is the heart of Waldorf education. Children under seven years
are introduced to fairy tales and nature stories. As they progress to an elementary stage, they are
introduced to folk fairy tales where they learn about diverse cultures, fables which teaches them moral
values, and folk fairy tales about ancient times and historical events These stories form the basis of
basic education.
As identified earlier, Waldorf education emphasizes developmental learning. Children are not
introduced to formal learning until elementary class at age 6 7. Pre school pedagogy emphasizes
imagination and imitation of practical activities. The imitation approach aims at informing the child of
the notion that the world is a perfect place (Ullrich, 2014). Thus, the educational approach emphasizes
holistic conduct, character, and personality among the teacher and the environment. Pre school
children are discouraged from using technology until elementary with the belief that it conflicts with
the developmental process of a child (Woods and Glenys, 2006). At this developmental stage, children
are using their power of imagination to learn and technology such as Television can expose them to
unhealthy content. Besides formal learning, early stages of elementary curriculum continue to nurture
imagination. Formal learning involves reading, writing, artwork, and handwork. The academic
subjects in elementary grades are introduced through storytelling.

Compare And Contrast Anime And Anime
In recent years, animated programs have dominated the world of film and TV in both America and
Japan. These programs, known as cartoons and anime, are some of the most popular forms of
entertainment today. Anime and cartoon shows, such as One Piece and Family Guy, have been running
for decades and are very well known among society. Animated films such as Disney s The Lion King
and Studio Ghibli s Spirited Away have also thrived and even surpassed animated television shows in
some instances. Both American and Japanese animation industries have flourished, and their cartoons
and animes continue to grow in popularity. However, similarities and differences between the two
soon arise when compared closely; these observations are often what lead fans to prefer one style over
the other as well as shape pop culture. Anime and cartoons had very similar origins. Gertie the
Dinosaur from 1914 is considered the first American cartoon. Japan s first anime is not as clear, but
many believe it to be 1917 s An Obtuse Sword. Both of these animated features were short, silent, and
black and white. Their rise in popularity and introduction of the style of animation seen in the modern
world did not begin until their Golden Age of animation. In the US, the Golden Age was from the

longer cartoons with sound and color. Snow White from the late 30 s was Disney s first big feature

Another thing to consider with the gun control in Americais that it is doing nothing but slowly taking
away the Second Amendment and disarming law abiding citizens. These citizens may soon not even be
able to defend themselves. That is when the NRA(National Rifle Association) steps in to protect the
Second Amendment and to ensure that law abidng citizens have their gun rights protected. Thanks to
the NRA and all the gun owners throughout America most law abiding citizens can still bear their

Anse And Tyrone s Phenomenon
Anse and Tyrone are weak fathers whose ignorance and arrogance ultimately tears the family apart.
Both fathers are very frugal, and their frugality sickens the family. Tyrone was born in Ireland and
then moved to the United States at a young age. His father left his family once they moved to the U.S.
to go back to Ireland. Because of his background, Tyrone has always had to save money and make the
most of what he has since he lived in poverty. Those instincts stook with him his entire life. His
cheapness is the reason why his wife is a morphine addict and his family is well aware of that. Mary
has even called him out on it, And yet it was exactly the same type of cheap quack who first gave you
the medicine and you never knew until it was too late! (O neill 76). His wife is even blaming him for

because his fee was cheap! Another one of your bargains! (O neill 142).
Tyrone would rather spend his money on land, rather than a good doctor for his wife. He spends most
of his money on land, and Edmund even dragged it out of him, It s a lie! All I told them was I couldn t

How To Lose Weight Essay
My life was almost like an endless routine that went on continuously with no end. Sure, there were
some highlights of my life but I guess I lived a normal life . Change was something I had never truly
experienced before high school. One night at the local bowling alley there was a dance for the high
school students. I went with some my friends and we were just chilling at a table. It was typical high
school dance, girls on one side and guys on the other side. Everyone was taking their pictures and
soon I was asked to take picture a with my older friend, Alex. We took the picture of each of us
holding dollar bills in our hands. One of my friends later told me I looked fat in the picture. I looked at
repeatedly in denial because I couldn t believe what he had said. I kept making up excuses of why I
admittedly, looked a bit over weigh. Later, that week a couple of my friends could tell I was feeling
down. I simply played it off as stress caused from school which what any sissy would do. I came to
the realization that I was overweight. I started researching ways to lose weight and found a bunch of
ways to lose weight. The problem was I didn t know how to lose weight to I just decided to eat three
times a day with no snacks. It had been about 3 weeks since I started trying to lose weight and I was at
the gym playing basketball. My friend, Eric said You look skinnier, have you lost weight? This made
me feel like I had accomplished something. Summer rolled around and I

Martyrdom Of Saint Antonio Di Credi
At the Nelson Atkins Museum of art there are many different Art pieces from the Renaissance time
period. Of the collection 5 pieces grasped the attention (4 from the Renaissance and 1 from Baroque)
due to their style, subject matter, use of color, symbolism, figure placement, artist attention and
technics. The 5 pieces of artwork are Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist
(1510), Portrait of a Man (1620/21), The Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence, Christ and the Centurion, and
The Triumph of Bacchus. The Painting of Madonna with the two children by Lorenzo di Credi, shows

In the 3rd century Christianity was outlawed and public executions such as Saint Lawrence s were
made public to spread a message. In the painting Girolamo tried to connect back to classical times by
using a oil pain which is dries slow and is flexible therefore allowing him to use Sfumato, which
allows the colors to gradually shade into each other, creating a classic look. He also uses a technique
that allows the focal point to be on Saint Lawrence by having the crowd look at Saint Lawrence being
grilled. In 1575 Paolo Caliari created the paint, Christ and the Centurion in Venezia, Italy. The image
depicted shows Christ converting Roman Centurion and shows the symbolism of Christianity to non
Jews. The painting shows a strict relief composition to show the classicizing Renaissance style during
the ages of Mannerism. Different details of the painting show a more contemporary style rather than
ancient roman patterns which is typically shown in the Italian

The team is composed of known people in their fields that may be a huge factor in their success.
Bringing Ulvaeus and Andersson into the world of theater featuring 22 of their best songs.
The ABBA music in the production could bring several advantages. One is bringing fans of Ulvaeus
and Andersson as additional audiences in the show. Another is that the two could be the upper hand of
Mamma Mia compared to other productions. But, bringing the two singers in the world of theater
could be a risk since they are known as singers not actors, and there may be conflicts with people who
do not appreciate their music. The production s story line is non traditional. Mamma Mia built its plot
around the songs, different from classic productions wherein the songs are only complimentary to the
storyline. The story is feel good and not much thinking is required. It may be considered as innovative
although it may cost the audience who prefer the traditional theater.
III. Alternatives/Options
1. Opportunity: ABBA Music popular in the market
Action: Emphasizing or featuring ABBA music in marketing the production. People who are
considered fans of ABBA could be a great addition to the viewers of Mamma Mia.
2. Opportunity: Gloomy mood due to the bombing of world trade center
Action: Allot a percentage of benefits to the victims of the bombing so the audience would have a dual

Rhetoric and Betrayal in Julius Caeser Play
William Shakespeare s famous play Julius Caesar utilizes the literary element of rhetoric multiple
times throughout to show the true power that words can hold. The rhetoric in Caesar accompanies the
play s themes of betrayal, deception, and exaggeration. Brutus uses rhetoric to persuade the crowd of
plebeians that the murdering of Caesar was positive and beneficial to all of Rome, winning their
support and causing them to join his cause. Soon after, Mark Antony gives a terrifically persuasive
speech that he claims to be a funeral oration for Caesar, but is truly a cleverly shrouded undermining
to Brutus s speech. Antony s speech is able to not only gain him the crowd s support, but causes the
crowd to completely disregard what Brutus had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the starting line of his oration is a powerful use of rhetoric. By referring to the plebeians as
friends and Romans he creates a sense of emotional connection with them and shapes a feeling of
citizen like connection, which is use of pathos. Calling them countrymen creates the feeling that
Antony is simply a fellow Roman like the plebeians and he is alike to them. Antony then uses the
rhetoric device of conduplicatio in his speech, repeating that Brutus is an honorable man. This is also a
use of irony. He says in a sarcastic manner that Brutus is honorable after pointing out contractions to
what Brutus had said about Caesar and why he needed to be murdered (Gradesaver). Antony also
mentions that Caesar s declining of the crown three times showed that he was not ambitious. Antony
causes himself to appeal to the crowd even more with another device of rhetoric the understatement.
He claims his modesty and contrasts his speaking skills with those of Brutus, when his persuasive
skills are actually more powerful than Brutus s in the lines: I come not, friends, to steal away your
hearts. I am no orator, as Brutus is, But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man That love my friend.
And that they know full well That gave me public leave to speak of him. (3.2.210 14)
Antony s statement is ironic because he states that he is not an orator like Brutus, when is actually a
better orator and persuades the

Hemorrhagic Shock
Hemorrhagic shock results from a life threatening loss of blood and leads to tissue ischemia and
insufficient evacuation of cellular metabolic degradation products. Mortality is linked directly to
massive blood loss or occurs indirectly due to secondary multiple organ failure. In particular, loss of
gastrointestinal, renal, hepatic, and pulmonary function is frequent after hemorrhagic shock (1).
Current guidelines for nonsurgical treatment of hemorrhagic shock recommend rapid volume
resuscitation by using crystalloids to restore the intravascular volume (2). However, this practice is
controversial because aggressive restoration of intravascular volume with a rapid increase in blood
pressure before controlling hemorrhage can lead to increased

good roles which were those of wives and mothers. Also, women played bad roles which were those
of lovers, rebels and witches. The good roles of women were those of wives and mothers. First, they

Database Management Systems That Are Used For Non...
Overview
NoSQL is generally interpreted as Not only SQL [1]. It is a class of database management systems
that are used for non relational database. Typically NoSQL database does not use two dimensional
table to store data. The four generally categories of NoSQL database are key values database, column
databases, document databases, and graph databases [2]. NoSQL database is an indispensable part of
big data. Most company choose NoSQL database because it yields better performance when compared
to relation database. Many relational databases have been existing for more than 20 years, while most
NoSQL databases have a history of less than 5 years. Because NoSQL databases are so young, they
exposes lots of security issues. Many NoSQL databases are still focusing on adding features and
improving performance, while strength security mechanism is still a low priority task. There were
already two data breaches happened in companies that are using NoSQL databases (MongoHQ in
2013 and LinkedIn in 2012 [3]).

NoSQL database characteristics
The problem of relational database is that its performance degrade significantly while handling
exponential growth of semi structured data or unstructured data [4]. The NoSQL databases possess
properties called BASE (Basically available, Soft state, and eventually consistent) that makes it much
more scalable than relational databases. As the CAP theorem [5] said, a database system cannot have

Mortal Kombat Argument
The first game to come to a lot of peoples minds when prompted with violent video games is Mortal
Kombat. Mortal Kombat is known for being extremely violent and gruesome with their death and
fighting scenes. Spines being torn out, blood spraying out of bodies, organs being ripped out, its no
wonder it got so much attention even with its first game. In fact, Mortal Kombat is the reason that the
Entertainment Software Rating board, or the ESRB ratings, exists at all. Since then it s been a constant
thought in peoples minds that the things we see and play in video games can lead to violent natures
outside in the real world. There are two sides to the argument and both seem to have credibility. I m of

The Breakdown of Ithaka
In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of the gods. However,
in Ithaka, the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the kingdoms so different in their success? Homer
puts these three kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and
differences between the three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more
successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting from the battle for the
coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos, Ithaka is breaking down from the
loss of order and their leader, Odysseus.
Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down? Menelaos has
a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of riches, and Sparta is
prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In
Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil
beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because
Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He
is a wise and generous soul, who strides to keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly
favors Nestor in which she wishes honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). There is no mortal half so wise
(1.64) as Odysseus, the ruler of

Feminist Icon Betty Friedan Testified
On January 29th, 1970, feminist icon Betty Friedan testified before the Senate Judicial committee to
protest the appointment of Judge George Harrold Carswell to Supreme Court
Justice. With this testimony, Friedan hoped to persuade the committee to reject Carswell s nomination.
In her testimony, Friedan was clear, concise, and effective. Friedan employed many different
techniques to provide examples and backings for her assertions. Within the first few sentences of her
speech, the activist establishes credibility and states her reason for being there. As president of the
National Organization of Women, known informally as N.O.W., Betty Friedan speaks out against the
discrimination against women in the employment, education, and in all ... Show more content on

Friedan also uses statistics to remind the court that 4.1 million mothers in the working force have
children under the age of six and that they comprise 38.9 percent of the nearly 10.6 million mothers in
the labor force today (Friedan). The activist continues to use evidential elements and statistics in her
testimony, stating for every mother of children who worked in 1940, ten mothers are working today,
an increase from slightly over 1.5 million to nearly 11 million (Friedan). Friedan also makes point that
a man applying for the same position would not be denied because he was father to pre school aged
children. The use factual evidence makes many of Friedan s assertions irrefutable and provides solid
backing for her case against Carswell. However, Friedan does not just use factual evidence. The
activist also appeals to emotions in her testimony, and although this may not be the most effective tool
against her targeted audience, it does give her backing beyond the factual. Friedan asks the committee
to place themselves in the shoes of those she fights for, and asks for empathy. To paraphrase, Friedan
asks them to imagine themselves being denied for reelection, or applying for a job at a company or
law firm or university and being told they are ineligible simply because they had a child (Friedan).
After painting this picture for the committee, Friedan hits back with a question, asking then how do
you feel about appointing to the Supreme Court a man who has said

  • 2. Kyoto Protocol Of The Unfccc ( 2005 ) The Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC (2005) 1. Introduction Founded on the belief that humans are ultimately responsible for global warming, the Kyoto Protocol was signed in 1997 and made effective in 2005 with the aim of reducing national quantitative greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% (compared with emissions in 1990) in industrialised countries worldwide. This would equate to a 29% cut overall by 2010. The protocol intends to specifically reduce global emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride, HFCs and PFCs (www.kyotoprotocol.com). The protocol was later revised in its second commitment period stating that an 18% cut (compared with 1990) in emissions between 2013 2020 would be its next target. The Kyoto Protocol created three market based mechanisms...known as the carbon market to support its targets (UNFCCC). These mechanisms covered emissions trading, the clean development mechanism (CDM) and joint implementation. Combined, the mechanisms are geared towards encouraging sustainable development using technology and investment, reducing emissions in an economically viable way and stimulating developing countries to reduce their emissions too. International cooperation was essential for the Kyoto Protocol to be enforced and achieve its aims. As the protocol seeks to reduce greenhouse emissions globally, efforts are needed from all industrialised countries emitting harmful gases into the Earth s atmosphere. Without adequate participation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Research On Educational Psychology Assignment Barbara Jones EDU 614 Dr. C 2 February 2015 Research in Educational Psychology Assignment Topic There are numerous motivational theories that have been discussed and tested. Different students unknowingly, or sometimes knowingly, utilize different theories since no two students are alike. Many teachers acknowledge that different students are motivated by different things, whether it be intrinsic extrinsic, self efficacy or interest. Not only can gender and age differences affect motivation, but the student s self efficacy and level of goal setting also affect the student s motivation. As a teacher, it has been noted that certain students are motivated to do certain tasks while others are not. In order to learn, students need to be motivated. One of the most difficult challenges of teaching is fighting the battle of motivating the students, which then leads to supporting them and helping them motivate themselves. Textbook Summary The textbook definition for motivation is the inner state that energizes, directs, and sustains behavior. (Ormrod, 2015, p. 186) It goes on to state that humans usually tend to work with a purpose. Motivation not only influences the activities that learners choose, but it also affects the degree to which they engage in those activities (Ormrod, 2015, p. 186). While teachers do play a big part in motivating students, motivation also has to come from within the students. In order for students to feel motivated, they must have certain primary ... • 4. 3M Company’s Liquidity Essay The liquidity position of a company can be evaluated using several ratios which evaluate short term assets and liabilities and a firm s ability to settle short term debts (Gibson, 2011). These ratios can provide insight into a firm s ability to repay its debts in the short term (Gibson, 2011). In turn they suggest a firm s capacity for debt satisfying capabilities into the future (Gibson, 2011). This paper will use financial statement data as cited in Gibson (2011) from 3M Company (3M) to better understand liquidity measures to evaluate a firm s total liquidity position. The following paper will focus on various liquidity calculations, their meaning, and their interpretation relative to 3M. Finally, an overall view of 3M s liquidity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, an improvement in age of receivables for a single company over multiple periods suggests a company is becoming more efficient or effective at managing its receivables (Bujaki Durocher, 2012; Gibson, 2011). Accounts receivable turnover is the second method by which a company s trade receivables liquidity can be evaluated (Gibson, 2011). Žager et al. (2012) noted turnover ratios should be as high as possible as this indicates a firm s ability to convert its assets more often. 3M s accounts receivable turnover for years 2007 and 2008 is shown in Exhibit 2. In 2007, 3M turned its accounts receivable over 7.12 times and 7.70 times in 2008. This calculates into a turnover of its accounts receivable every 51.28 days in 2007 and 47.38 days in 2008. The increase in accounts receivable turnover times per year (decrease in number of days to turnover accounts receivables) from 2007 to 2008 is a positive trend for 3M. It suggests, along with the prior calculation, the management of receivables is likely to be improving in efficiency. A company must pay attention to the number of days of its sales it holds in inventory to determine the amount of time it will take to convert the inventory on hand into sales (Gibson, 2011). As shown in Exhibit 3, 3M increased from 81.74 days of sales in inventory in 2007 to 82.20 days in 2008. At face value, an increase suggests a slight negative trend for 3M as it is holding onto more inventory, taking longer to sell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Literature Review On Lightweight Concrete CHAPTER TWO: Literature review 2.1. Lightweight concrete: 2.1.1. Introduction: Foam balls lightweight concrete (FBLWC) has been a feature in the structural construction owing to its advantages over the normal weight concrete (NWC). It is a concrete weighing substantially less than that is made using gravel or crushed stone aggregates. Lightweight aggregate concrete is usually chosen for structural purposes which its use will lead to a lower overall cost of structure than will be expected with normal weight concrete. To gain perspective on the behavior of lightweight concrete, available literature from the previous research work is reviewed and a review of the codes and standards requirements for this kind of concrete. This literature review provides an overview of previous work done on lightweight concrete. This chapter describes the nature of foamed balls concrete, its composition and properties and how it is used in civil engineering works. Because the properties of foamed concrete can vary widely, and it can be used in a wide variety of applications, it is important to define performance requirements for each case. 2.1.2. Historical background: The history of lightweight concrete production from natural source dates back to pre Roman times. Ordinary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aerated concrete is also commonly known as a cellular concrete (Neville and Brooks, 2010). It can be divided into two main types according to the method of production. They are foamed concrete (non autoclaved aerated concrete (NAAC)) and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). Foamed concrete is produced by injecting preformed stable foam or by adding a special air entraining admixture known as a foaming agent into a base mix of cement paste or mortar (cement+water or cement+sand+water). The AAC is produced by adding a predetermined amount of aluminum powder and other additives into slurry of ground high silica sand, cement or lime and water. (Yen, 2006; Li, ... There were these two government officials, dressed in their suit and ties and all. They came into our class and gave a presentation on why we should want to go to space. One of them had these glasses that allowed him to look at us without us knowing. It kinda creeped me out. The other guy had this obnoxious yellow tie that was phony as hell. I mean I know he s trying to show he s all sunshine and rainbows, but thats lies we all know he s lying. The tie had these little rockets on it which made me want to puke even more. I guess though, if they wanted to kill me it would be pretty easy, since I m sitting in a rocket that s gonna jet out thousands of gallons of flammable fuel in seconds. Jesus, this rocket probably looks exactly like the rocket on that yellow tie. What a shame. Hopefully this rocket blows up so I can die as a famous person who sacrificed himself with great dignity for his country. Man, I would die laughing if I heard that. • 8. Durkheim And Weber s Theories Of Religion And Modernity Emile Durkheim and Max Weber are two prominent philosophers whose theories unequivocally differed on countless themes. The outlooks of Durkheim and Weber contrast however, their general message in which they attempt to convey are of similar ideologies. When examining Durkheim and the concept of sacred and profane, one would see how it parallels with Weber s notion of enchantment and disenchantment. Their stances on religion correspond with each other and despite their distinct conceptual frameworks and differing perspectives, Durkheim and Weber both offer profound contributions to the concepts of religion and modernity. Durkheim and Weber both had distinct theories as they expressed and conceptualized religion and it s impact to society in quite different ways however, they somehow overall parallel each others theories. Durkheim observed religion in the context of the integrated society and recognized its place in affecting the reasoning and conduct of society.Max Weber saw religion as how it fortifies other social organizations. Weber suspected that the religious belief setup contributed a social system that SUPPORTED the improvement of other social organizations, like the economy. Weber is also addressing the shrinking hold of religion in modern society. (Veugelers) This notionally theorizes that both philosophers acknowledge the importance of religion as influencing and supporting society. Porter, 557 So. 2d 214 (Fla. 2d DCA 1990). In order to be relieved of liability, an owner must have a prominently placed Bad Dog sign that is easily readable. In Carroll, the court held that the purpose of having a prominently placed sign that is easily readable is to give actual notice of the risk of a bite to the victim. Carroll, 241 So. 2d at 682. The owner of the store in Carroll had a Beware of Dog sign beside the counter of the hardware store. Id. As the victim stood at the counter, the unseen dog lunged out and bit her on the face. Id. These programs, known as cartoons and anime, are some of the most popular forms of entertainment today. Anime and cartoon shows, such as One Piece and Family Guy, have been running for decades and are very well known among society. Animated films such as Disney s The Lion King and Studio Ghibli s Spirited Away have also thrived and even surpassed animated television shows in some instances. Both American and Japanese animation industries have flourished, and their cartoons and animes continue to grow in popularity. However, similarities and differences between the two soon arise when compared closely; these observations are often what lead fans to prefer one style over the other as well as shape pop culture. Anime and cartoons had very similar origins. Gertie the Dinosaur from 1914 is considered the first American cartoon. Japan s first anime is not as clear, but many believe it to be 1917 s An Obtuse Sword. Both of these animated features were short, silent, and black and white. Their rise in popularity and introduction of the style of animation seen in the modern world did not begin until their Golden Age of animation. In the US, the Golden Age was from the 1920 s to 1960 s; this was when Walt Disney created his own animation studio and began to put out longer cartoons with sound and color. Antony then uses the rhetoric device of conduplicatio in his speech, repeating that Brutus is an honorable man. This is also a use of irony. He says in a sarcastic manner that Brutus is honorable after pointing out contractions to what Brutus had said about Caesar and why he needed to be murdered (Gradesaver). Antony also mentions that Caesar s declining of the crown three times showed that he was not ambitious. He has no end of riches, and Sparta is prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). • 35. Feminist Icon Betty Friedan Testified On January 29th, 1970, feminist icon Betty Friedan testified before the Senate Judicial committee to protest the appointment of Judge George Harrold Carswell to Supreme Court Justice. With this testimony, Friedan hoped to persuade the committee to reject Carswell s nomination. In her testimony, Friedan was clear, concise, and effective. Friedan employed many different techniques to provide examples and backings for her assertions. Friedan also uses statistics to remind the court that 4.1 million mothers in the working force have children under the age of six and that they comprise 38.9 percent of the nearly 10.6 million mothers in the labor force today (Friedan). The activist continues to use evidential elements and statistics in her testimony, stating for every mother of children who worked in 1940, ten mothers are working today, an increase from slightly over 1.5 million to nearly 11 million (Friedan). Friedan also makes point that a man applying for the same position would not be denied because he was father to pre school aged children. The use factual evidence makes many of Friedan s assertions irrefutable and provides solid backing for her case against Carswell. However, Friedan does not just use factual evidence. The activist also appeals to emotions in her testimony, and although this may not be the most effective tool against her targeted audience, it does give her backing beyond the factual. Friedan asks the committee to place themselves in the shoes of those she fights for, and asks for empathy. To paraphrase, Friedan asks them to imagine themselves being denied for reelection, or applying for a job at a company or law firm or university and being told they are ineligible simply because they had a child (Friedan). After painting this picture for the committee, Friedan hits back with a question, asking then how do you feel about appointing to the Supreme Court a man who has said ...
