The Human Rights Act By Viscount Sankey Essay
Decades before the implementation of the Human Rights Act , Viscount Sankey s prose in
Woolmington v DPP alluded to the presumption of innocence as the one golden thread which runs
through the web of English criminal law . He essentially establishes that the legal burden of proving
the defendant s guilt lies with the prosecution . This principle is arguably underlying in every
jurisdiction that respects ones right to a fair trial and is the foundation of the criminal law. There
are two important themes that must be discussed relating to the principles set out in Woolmington:
Firstly, in this case it was acknowledged that there can be instances where a reverse burden of proof
is applied and that in fact, the onus is on the defendant to prove his innocence rather than for the
prosecution to prove his guilt. Secondly, despite some departure from the Woolmington principle, it
does not inevitably necessitate that the law has been unfaithful to its underlying rationale. A
common deduction of the Woolmington principle is that Sankey, in his judgement, is ambiguous
and left too much open to interpretation. Furthermore, it has been argued by Adrian Zuckerman that
the way in which something is written can in fact lead to a justified imposition of a legal burden on
the defendant and that the accused will only have to prove their innocence by disclosing an onerous
burden in situations where legislation expressly commands them to. Article 6(2) of the ECHR

Minecraft Influence On Society
When he set out to create a game, Markus Persson never dreamed of creating a worldwide
phenomenon. His only motivation was coding, something that fueled him day in and day out.
Persson loved to code, partly due to the influence of many other games he s played. Games such as
Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, and Infiniminer all created a positive influence on his passion,
and this directly translated in his product: Minecraft. Many of us know Minecraft through the big
YouTube community conceptualized by this games byproduct. Minecraft has become a common
household name, sprinkled throughout the large quantity of mainstream media (South Park being
one of the prominent examples). Yet, with over 100 million copies sold, it s clear that it s become...

Due to the nature of the game, visitors of the world would be able to interact and explore parts of
the world. Many compare it to an interactive museum exhibit. The real beneficiaries, however,
were educators. Many Minecraft creators were able to replicate historical events within the game.
The newfound level of interactivity allowed students to explore and understand historical events
like never before. Educators can also use Minecraft to build replications of settings within fictional
literature. Student now have the ability to experience an interactive version of classic books, such
as The Great Gatsby and various others. However, there is more educational gain than historical.
The aforementioned Survival Mode boasts a strong resemblance to the real world. The base
objective of the game is to find minerals and use them in order to survival. Real life ores, such and
Iron and Gold, are replicated in game, with generally similar characteristics. This allows educators
in the field of science to give interactive science lessons, engaging students further and creating a
lasting impression that generates better educational results. These type of instances became so
popular throughout the Minecraft community, that Mojang, the company who created Minecraft,

Diversity Audit
Company to Audit: Johnson And Johnson
This diversity audit begins with a background about the company, as well as some important
information about key Diversity executives. What will be addressed in the audit are what efforts
Johnson Johnson made to foster diversity competence and understand, what efforts were made in
furthering the knowledge or awareness about diversity, what strategies were used to address the
challenges of diversity and how will you ensure that your leaders and managers will be committed
to the diversity initiative. The audit concludes with a quote from the vice president of recruiting at

In an article from Diversity Global Magazine, Mr. Carter was named a 2013 Diversity Executive
of Distinction. The article stated that Mr. Carter s focus on developing cutting edge Diversity
and Inclusion programs and strategies is successful because it is aligned with the company s
strategic business objective. As I researched deeper into the company s responsibility to its
customers, employees, communities and shareholders I found that Johnson Johnson s respect
towards these groups of people who keep the company alive is supported by Anthony s
implementation and design of an inclusive global organizational system, as well as Diversity
and Inclusion incentives. He has further developed opportunities for Johnson and Johnson to
maximize their diversity. He oversees an office that implements programs such as Crossing the
Finish Line, which is a career acceleration program for people of color. Programs such as these
are crucial in developing world class diverse leaders. An interesting quote by Anthony P. Carter
sums up his role nicely, Diversity and inclusion describe how we can work together to bring
innovative ideas, products and services together to advance the health, well being and the quality
of life of those we serve. (Diversity Global) In the article Harnessing Diversity to Affect the

Dear Sir
I am writing this letter of complaint to express my dissatisfaction with the standard of gritting

A Comparison of Mrs Casper, Mr Sugden and Mr Farthing s Treatment of Billy in Barry Hines
Billy s Last Stand In this essay I will attempt to compare the ways in which the three main
characters in this story treat Billy, Mrs Casper, Mr Sugden and Mr Farthing. The book is set in
the sixties in a mining village in Yorkshire. First of all I will discuss Billy, he is a young and
naive boy, he is about to leave school which is a place he hates. He doesn t get on with most of
the teachers and rebels against their rules. He hates and is hated, his family and friends are harsh to

There is no father figure for Billy to look up to, so maybe that is where he has his rebellious naive
attitude. To add to it all his motheris more interested in going out, than looking after her son, and
also her other son Jud, he doesn t look after Billy at all. An example of Billy s rebellious side is
on page 19. Billy get up to that shop and do as you re telled. He shook is head. His mother
stepped forward, but he backed off, keeping the same distance between them. Billy was already
late for school, yet his mother wanted him to go up to the shop and buy her cigarettes, this
shows she is more concerned with herself than Billy, and his life and school. Another example of
her not caring and showing affection was when Billy was reading his book and she asks about it,
and when he is half way through explaining she realises she is late and runs out to go to the pub,
leaving Billy to fend for himself. A kestrel hawk, what do you think it is?
I say what time is it?
She then runs out and leaves him to fend for himself.
Further more, when Billy needs his mum the most and actually goes to hug his mother when he is
in tears, she rejects him, shaking him off her and telling him to grow, this shows a lack of
maternal qualities once again, and even shows she is embarrassed to be a

A Separate Peace Analysis
A Separate Peace by John Knowles follow the late high school experience of two high school
boys, Gene Forrester and his best friend Phineas, in the midst of WWII. This coming of age
novel explores the impact of WWII on those who were aware of the war, yet not fully involved
in it. While the war affects all those in the school, its effects are most visible in the mind of
Gene. Much of the actions of the main characters can be described in a quote by Eric Burdon, that
Inside each of us, there is a seed of both good and evil. It s a constant struggle as to which one will
win. And one cannot exist without the other . Gene s fluctuations between friend and foe, as well
as Phineas disposition and untimely death both reflect the ideas of the quote, and while the actions
of other main characters do not necessarily conform to the same standards, the quote accurately
reflects the novel.
In A Separate Peacenowhere is the struggle between good and evil more obvious than it is in Gene
Forrester, as he switches between antagonism and friendliness throughout the novel. This conflict
within is displayed when Gene visits Finny to admit his guilt, telling him I jounced the limb. I
caused it.... I deliberately jounced the limb so that you would fall off (70). This display of honesty
and friendship is tainted by the realization that Gene tried, and succeeded, in harming his friend.
While Gene at some points wants to hate Finny, he likes him too much to ever truly give up on him,

Essay on Diversity in Higher Education
With the ratification of the 14th Amendment in 1868, prohibiting states from passing laws that
deny U.S. citizens from equal protection under the law, the Supreme Court has been obliged to
provide decisions that are color blind (U.S. Const. Amend XIV, В§ 1). However, the Court often
viewed education as a state issue and was reluctant to get involved. That all changed in the 1954
Supreme Court decision known as Brown v. Board of Educationof Topeka, Kansas. In this ruling, it
was decided that, State sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th
Amendment and was therefore constitutional (National Archives, n.d.). It was at this time that the

Boulder began to look at other criterion, in addition to race, to promote diversity. They decided to
focus on socioeconomic status since this was not protected under the Fourteenth Amendment and it
promotes authentic diversity and equal opportunity (p. 371). They also wanted to be sure to
maintain minority representation should race no longer be a consideration with the passage of
Amendment 46. A study was conducted that evaluated two traits in determining socioeconomic
status. The first was the Overachievement Indices. This evaluated how a student s test scores (e.g.
ACT, SAT) and GPA compared with other students from the same socioeconomic background.
The second was the Disadvantage Index. This evaluated criteria such as native language, family
income level, and school location. Two mathematical equations were developed, in order to create
a standard, by which to measure a student s socioeconomic status, and how this may affect their
success at college. In 2009, the University at Colorado at Boulder conducted an experiment to see
how its class based acceptance policy compared with its race based acceptance policy. They found
that the class based acceptance rate was nine percent higher than considering race alone. Black,

Globalization Of Dreams And Its Effects On Dreams
Globalization of Dreams
The focus of this study is to continue previous research relating the significance of cultures and
dreams. These studies have set out to show what how much of an effect culture has on dreams. To
measure this, other researchers have recorded participants typical dreams. These studies have
helped us to understand some of the differences in beliefs, values, and structure of other cultures as
well as the differences and similarities. Through analyzing the differences and similarities of our
various cultures we learn what humans share in values as a whole and how our society influences
our thinking and actions. By interviewing two people from two different collectivistic cultures,
there should be a great deal of similarities between the two. Any differences recorded found will be
derived from individual perspectives rather than culture. The goal of the research is to show culture
doesn t heavily influence our dreams but rather individual perceptions of the world around them do.
There isn t a significant difference in typical dreams between cultures, rather researchers tend to
agree that culture doesn t have much of an effect on dreams and it has more to do with our
individual perception of our day (Jaenicke 2009).
In Griffith, Miyago, and Tago s (1958) study of The Universality of Typical Dreams: Japanese vs.
Americans, statistics showed out of the 34 typical dreams compared between the two, 14 held a

Tadashi s Last Kiss
Prose
A prolonged silence engulfed the surrounding distance between the two figures, an icy wind cutting
across the plateau. They watched each other s every move, every twitch and every breath.
You always were a glutton for punishment, Tadashi called out, his sharp voice ringing throughout
the highland. He rose his blade and aimed it s pointed tip at her, continuously shifting his weight
until he was satisfied.
And you for power, she shot back, tightening her grip on the hilt of her weapon.
Tadashi examined her face although her expression bore no emotion. Her eyes were cold and
glassy, lips straightened in a tight line. Today, she was going to kill him.
She lunged forwards, springing across the frozen tundra silently and swiftly. Snow was tossed
around her body as she leapt towards Tadashi with a murderous intent. Plunging her blade at his
chest, she was left thrusting madly at empty air. Tadashi countered, swinging his swordwith such
strong momentum that his opponent was sent staggering backwards. But he suspected it wouldn
t be so easy. Her shape flickered and disappeared from sight, leaving Tadashi to patiently await
her next strike. Nothing but the sound of the howling wind could be heard. A knowing smile
crossed his face and he swivelled on his heels, meeting her attack with the satisfying clang of
metal upon metal. Their eyes met and they stood in the cold, neither daring to break the steely
gaze. Tadashi was prepared to end her life as quickly as

is interspersed with sidewalks, multiple green spaces and commons that are consistently maintained
by the grounds team. The campus has impermeable and permeable surfaces as Table 1

the number of impermeable surfaces on campus, and it is expected the number of impermeable
surfaces will continue to grow as the campus grows. Topographically, the campus is slightly sloped,

Natural habitat is limited on campus to a small tallgrass prairie plot that was established in the
mid 2000s. That area is used as a teaching space for many environmental science classes and is

grasses that receive routine mowing and aeration. The campus has the most concentrated
greenspace in the surrounding neighborhood, which is dominated my roads, residential and
commercial areas that are principally impermeable. Thus, the precipitations that does fall on the
green spaces of campus percolates into the ground or runoffs into either a Drake or city of Des

Coffee And Tea Compare And Contrast
comparing tea and coffee
Coffee or tea? That s a question asked on many occasions. At first glance, these drinks seem quite
different, and both coffee and tea enthusiasts will agree that the two beverages are in no way
comparable. However, if you take a closer look you can see quite a lot of similarities between the
two drinks.
In our society, coffeeand tea are extremely popular drinks. Tea is the second most consumed
drinks in the world, surpassed only by water. Coffee too is one of the most well liked beverages,
and popular all over the world. Though, it cannot completely live up to tea in terms of sales.
Although unroasted coffee is one of the worlds most traded agricultural goods, the yearly sales of
tea almost double the sales of coffee.
Comparing their history, both coffee and tea have been around for quite a long time. According to
legends, tea was first discovered in southwestern China 3000 BC during the Chinese Tang dynasty.
It became popular among Chinese and Japanese priests and scholars who drank it during
meditation, but was not introduced to Europe until the 16th century. Soon after tea was made
known in Europe, it became fashionable in Britain and is still considered one of Britain s cultural
beverages. Coffee on the other hand was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pianist Essay
The Pianist is a cinematic masterpiece by the Polish director Roman Polanski. One of the key
ideas that appear throughout much of the film is that of hope being instrumental in our survival .
This idea is portrayed through Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish pianist, as he struggles for survival
in Warsaw as everybody that he once knew and everything that he once had is lost. The idea of
hope being instrumental in our survival is worth learning about as it allows the audience to realise
the importance of hope in todays society and to understand how Polanski uses musicto symbolise
hope for Szpilman in the film. Polanski effectively utilises an array of visual and oral text features
such as music, dialogue, and lighting to build further... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is unable to play because he will give himself away so we instead watch his fingers move
across the air above the piano s keys as whilst the sound plays in his head and too the viewer.
Throughout the film we also see Szpilman pretending to play the piano as he taps his finger
across his legs. It is moments such as these that help to maintain Szpilman s willingness to survive
by keeping silent, but also how piano gives fills him with the hope that is instrumental in his
survival. In other scenes such as when a German officer asks Szpilman to play piano for him, and
allows him to live because of his immense talent we begin to realise that Szpilman s hope music,
does not only help him to survive mentally, but also physically as he can share the gift that he has to
others. It is also important to note that Polanski only music by the Polish composer, Chopin is used
throughout The Pianist . His sad and evocative music brings upon a sad mood, yet one with a hint
of hope and with this, the director can more vividly express his ideas a way that dialogue or action
cannot.
Another oral feature used throughout the film to express the director s idea of hope being
instrumental to our survival is dialogue. Whilst Szpilman s actions are usually used to express the
director s ideas, there are multiple instances where dialogue is used effectively to express them. In
one scene around a third of the way into the film, Mr. Lipa, a businessman

The protected areas of Fort DeSoto will have larger specimens than the unprotected areas of
Eckerd College, because of the protection rights that Fort DeSoto has in place. Where Eckerd

The results could have different outcomes based on a change in locations where the
Palaemonetes vulgaris were sampled. Based on the results, the null hypothesis is rejected because
the Palaemonetes vulgaris in Fort DeSoto are of greater average total length (mm) than in Boca

Eel Imobilize Prey
Electric eels are capable of generating powerful shocks that can immobilize prey. Discharges
emitted from volleys into the environment can cause prey in hiding to experience involuntary
muscle twitching causing it to be revealed to the eel. The revelation of hidden prey allows the eel
to continue its attack and go into predatory strike mode. This study (Catania, 2014) sets out to show
that the powerful shocks produced by eels activate motor neurons in their prey causing muscle
contractions in the prey to be temporarily halted and the eel to be able to control their target
through high frequency volleys.
An eel was placed in a naturalistic experimental environment with other fish and the fishes
response to high voltage pulses was observed. If there was a strong enough discharge, the fish
was unable to move on its on accord and was captured by the eel. A pitched fish was placed behind
an agar barrier, which received the same discharge as the eel directed toward earthworms placed in
the same environment. In order to determine if the discharges induced the muscle movement by
initiating action potentials or by activating the motor neurons in the fish, two fishes were pitched;
one of the fish was injected with an AcH antagonist and the other was injected with a placebo. To
test doublet and triplet discharges ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Violent Protest In Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King was a civil rights activist who believed in the liberty and justice for all.
During his life, Dr. King lead peaceful civil rights protest, preached the word of God, and was
imprisoned. Dr. King advocates for nonviolent responses to injustice and believes that protestors
must be willing to go to jail for what they believe in. In addition, Dr. King preaches that a violent
response to unjust treatment is wrong and one should not practice it, a preaching that ultimately led
to his death. Overall, Dr. King favored the use of nonviolent tactics over violent ones.
Mohandas K. Gandhi was an African philosopher who was also an attorney. During his time,
Gandhi challenged the apartheid system. The apartheid system basically was a form of
institutionalized racism that put the whites (the Dutch and the British) above the brown (Indian
workers) and the black (the descendants of the African natives). In addition, it made brown and
black people to be considered second class citizens , even though some of held prestigious jobs.
Gandhi was angered by the apartheid system that he constantly protested it. In fact, it is what lead
him to develop his non violent protest philosophy. This philosophy became known as satyagraha,
which translates to Love Force or Soul Force . Gandhi believed that satyagraha was the way to
oppose unfair treatment and that violent protest would just leave people wounded or even worse,
dead. The Satyagraha chapter in the book states While in

Finally, DFI will provide AMS with a final report of its findings. It is imperative that this report is
written in a clear and concise manner for AMS management, and is based on relevant facts. As a
result, this report will be delivered to AMS 30 days after the last examination/analysis is completed.
Additionally, it is necessary for the lead investigator and AMS management to review the final
report and answer any questions.
c.Potential risks and challenges to the investigation and how they should be handled?
The potential risks and challenges to the investigation is the fact that AMS wants the investigation
to be conducted clandestinely. This risks the loss of digital evidence because the digital forensic
investigator may not preserve the sources of the collected data to remain covert. Additionally, the
possibility exists that the suspects in marketing or accounts receivable become suspicious and begin
to destroy evidence.
DFI advises AMS management to allow the lead investigator the option to openly notify employees
of the investigation if the need arises. This would provide the lead investigator with the ability to
remove employees from marketing and account receivable from their workstations to preserve the
devices and safeguard the digital evidence.

a.Agreement or promise theory
Gerald Fridman contends that the primary purpose of contract law is to enforce the agreement of
the parties. Agreement is the central element in determining whether there is a contract. Also, the
existence of a contract requires the parties voluntarily intend to be bound by the agreement. In
interpreting contracts, courts are primarily trying to carry out the intent of the contractual parties;
therefore, when one party frustrates the intentions of the other party, a breach occurs.
Charles Fried asserts that enforcing promises is the main purpose of contract law. One initiates a
contract by invoking the practice of promising, and the other party can reasonably trust him or
she will perform as promised in the future. If one fails to fulfill the promises, he or she then
damages or ruins the trust, and exhibits disrespect for the other party. This behavior is morally
wrong and condemned by the society. To enforce promises, the social practice of promising
should be supplemented with additional rules or standards. The role of contract law is to provide
rules and standards to further that purposes. When the promise principle under Fried s theory does
not provide a ground for relief, other contract law principles may still fill the gap. For example, the
principle of benefit requires compensating others for non gift benefits received from them.
Additionally, contract law also enforces promise by awarding expectation ... Show more content on

The Four Pillars Of Sms
Title: The Four Pillars of SMS
When thinking of pillars you want to think of support and strength, something that will support a
structure that is built up on it. Any structure needs support to be sound and viable for years to
come, and that is exactly what the four Pillars of SMS does for the overall safety effort in any
organization. The four pillars are built around the most important aspects to ensure the proper
operation of any organization so that safety is the main concern of all. If one of those pillars isn t
properly supported, the entire SMS will fail. The four pillars work best when they complement
each other throughout their life span, they work together and depend on each other in order to
make each pillar stonger and more durable. Figure 1 Four SMS Components
Each of the four pillars plays a vital role in the overall strength and support of the Safety
Management System, which having its own specific role, and in the end all four support and
depend on each other. If one of those pillars isn t supported by the others, the entire Safety
Management System can fail, and more importantly it can fail those that are dependent on it while
they are in a working environment. The goal of a SMS (Safety Management System) is the
proper and effective management of Safety within an organization, especially the world of
Aviation, but if applied correctly, it can be utilized and adapted by any business or organization to
work for them as well. Each Pillar

Coco Mademoiselle Ads
The Coco Mademoiselle ad by Chanel incorporates many explicit messages from the First Order of
Signification which can be deconstructed to reveal manipulative implicit meaning through the
Second Order of Signification . In the first explicit message the viewer sees that the signifier is
that the model is naked and is cover herself with maleclothing. The signified meaning is that it is
showing that the male presence is dominant as she is covering herself with men s suspenders. This
shows that even though this is an ad meant for women the male presence influences unrealistic
standards on how everyone sees beauty towards women. The next explicit image that can be seen in
the ad is the item that they are trying to sell the bottle of perfume... Show more content on

By being able to deconstruct these image based ads it has changed my reaction when I see them
now, now I m more wary of how I see them because I see the model or models as a tool to get
across a message. An example of this is when we had to deconstruct the Vogue ad what this did was
show the female model was submissive, an item to the male model and that the male is in control
of the female model as he clinches her and is in control of a yonic symbol the ball showing his
dominance. It has made me see things that are usually innocent like a beautiful model and a
renowned NBA star into seeing how he owns her and she is completely oblivious to the fact that
she is being controlled by a man and is okay with it. Another thing that this course has impacted
on future ads that I ll see is the colours in these ads. Now when I see all of these colours in these
ads I would be wondering what the ad really meant as the colours give all of the symbols more
meaning. So this has showed me how much the simplest thing like colours can have the biggest
effect on the ad to make it have a completely different meaning then what we original saw it for.
The last point is how I would caution other people about how they get manipulated by what the ad
is communicating to us. I would say that these ads are now

Gender, Race, And Cultural Generation
Introduction In our society today, the older population is a diverse and growing group with more
and more individuals reaching the life stage of late adulthood, and even very late adulthood.
According to Hutchison (2015), the late adulthood stage begins at 65 years of age and continues
through 85 years of age and the very late adulthood stage begins at 85 and carries through until
death. During the aging process, many changes occur within the body and mind as well as family
structure and social roles. Individuals who have reached these life stages today may have lived
through the Great Depression, the World Wars, the Civil Rights Movement, and many other
important historic events, all of which have shaped their life experiences. For... Show more content

The Mammy As A Archetype
African Americans have consistently been the target of cinematic and television comedy.
Considering African American women, the Mammy has emerged as an icon throughout the 20th
century, representing the foil to American white women (cf. Atkinson, 2004: 3). Having its roots in
antebellum Southern America, the Mammy was an important figure in the socialization of white
Southern children (DelGaudio, 1983). Considerably, various depictions of the Mammy present her
performing arduous domestic duties in the household of their slave owners. Therefore, the Mammy
replaces the white lady in educating and taking care not only of the white children but also of the
home (cf. Jewell, 1993: 38). In their work, Jennifer Bailey Woodard and Teresa Mastin stand

the Mammy needs aggressiveness in order to maintain the status quo, in her relations to other

over other slaves in order to protect the white family of any probable danger, particularly from
other blacks. However, the Mammy would never show her harshness and aggressiveness towards
the white family. Thus, she is constructed as fiercely independent, aggressive and powerful, [but] all

Women And Its Effects On Women Essay
Introduction:
It can be argued that reproduction is one of, if not the sole purpose of all life. As creatures of
higher consciousness, it is easy to be consumed by the societies we have created; their beauties and
pressures. Being diagnosed as, or considering that you may be infertile can be world shattering.
Consider the following experience: You and your spouse of ten years are having difficulty
conceiving a child. You both desperately want to have biological offspring. Gender, race, economic

disheartening for all, worse for some, and hopeful for others who have access to the proper
technology. We consider the how this lot in life affects a variety of individuals.
Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive a child after 12 to 18 months of unprotected sex
with a partner. Infertility in women can be a result of failure of egg release, hormone imbalances,
damage to fallopian tubes and a number of other things, while in men it is usually considered a
result of too few sperm being produced. Eighty percent of couples, who will ultimately conceive,
do so in the first 12 months (Feldman, 2017, p. 72). Now we examine the plight of the remaining
20% of couples, beginning with the emotional aspects.

What Are The Forces Within America That Have Shaped Our...
HCAD 730: W 3 Forum Five Questions Suggested Responses. 1. What are the forces within
America that have shaped our health care system? Many forces shape our current healthcare
system. Our cultural belief and values shape our views on our social, political, and economic
exigencies. While our beliefs and values usually represent basic or core impressions of individuals
in our society, they are constantly changing. Thus, they lend a sense of dynamism to our health
care system. Our cultural beliefs and values also impact our sense of ethics, which also influences
how we allocate our health resources and our sense of social justice, or lack of it. And although
ACA represents a major reform the American health care system, history will tell us whether it
survives after the next election cycles. Many of the forces in American health care that affected its
evolution in the past are present today. Advances in medical science and technology still have force
and effect on how our health care system has and will evolve over time. We have a technologically
driven health care system. Our educational system shapes our health care system through its
training methods and emphasis on the medical model. Depending on the discipline, training may
key on treating rather than preventing disease. This generates demand for service delivery. Training
of new physicians takes time and money. Because the costs for a medical education are significant,

Importance Of Technology On Education
Most people think of the phones in their hand or pocket when they think of technology, but the first
roots of technology started all the way back in the Paleolithic Era. This era brought us the first set
of stone tools and the famous cave paintings that have helped us learn about the past. Following the
Paleolithic Era, we had the Mesolithic and NeolithicEras which both brought us more advanced
stone tools and the start of copper tools. After the Meso/Neolithic Eras, we had the Bronze Era
which brought us our bronze tools and weapons. The next era was the Iron Age; this age brought us
our iron tools and bullets which further improved hunting. Next was the Middle Agesthat gave us
our armory and many more improvements on weaponry. Following the Middle Ages, there was the
Renaissance, then the Industrial Ages where hundreds of inventions were made like the steam
engine and the telegraph which advanced travel and communication. The last era is the Information
Age which gave us our phones, computers and the internet. Throughout history, technology has
improved and given society many benefits including the improvements of the educational system,
medical and the many communication systems.
The vast expanses of old and modern technology have pushed us forward in a new stance on
education and the system itself. With the use of the internet from their phone and computer/laptop
kids and adults alike can go online and read articles, look at powerpoints or Prezi s or watch videos

Near-Death Experience Theory
Death is something every human is afraid of. We know it will happen sooner or later; it is
inevitable. Death takes away loved ones, it takes away people that are so important to us. So
many people have gone through near death experiences, which is why those people look at life
like it is so precious. Spiritual and physiological hypotheses are about near deathexperiences. While
there are some differences between a spiritual hypothesis and a physiological hypothesis, the
similarities are evident.

Business, Ethics and Governance

Introduction
Ethics in business addresses the right and wrong behaviours of business practises, and how these
practices impact the employees, shareholders, the general public and the environment.
This essay will take a look at two different types of business structures; the capitalist corporation
and the workers cooperative, and review how the differing approach to business and the
fundamental ideologies of each, impacts ethical practises.
To highlight this, I will look at more specifically at capitalist organisation ANZ and cooperative

Fundamental Ideologies of a Capitalist Corporation
The fundamental ideologies of a capitalist corporation can vary from company to company, but
typically all have the same underlying purpose to make a profit. Often, a business ideologies are
expressed in the form of an organisational vision or mission statement a simple statement

Cultural Competence And The Field Of Law And Within The...
Part I
To start a discussion a cultural competence in the field of law and within the courtroom, it s
important to establish the definition of culture in clarity. Culture is a dynamic value system of
learned elements, with assumptions, conventions, beliefs and rules permitting members of a group
to relate to each other and to the world, to communicate and to develop their creative potential.
(Obialo) Religion, food, language, customs, unspoken values and beliefs, clothing and other
outward expressions make up a group s culture. There are four key components within cultural
competence. Those four key components include awareness of your own cultural worldview; your
attitude toward differences in cultures; your knowledge of different practices and worldviews
culturally; and your communication skills cross culturally. For example, take a case of divorce and
child custody involving an Indian couple. The facts exemplified how a judge s lack of knowledge to
the culture and practices of the individuals could result in an inaccurate conclusion. In this case,
the husband testifies that his wife was hysterical and claimed that she worshiped blocks of blood
and practiced voodoo. His testimony casted common Hindu practices in an unfavorable light. This
was his scheme to make the courts believe his wife was emotionally volatile and was not fit to
parent their child. However, it would be a great mistake to depend on the husband s testimony as the

for almost half of infections in ICU settings, up to 28% of mechanically ventilated patients will
develop VAP and of these patients the mortality rate is between 20% and 70% (Craven Steger,
1998). A patient that develops VAP while mechanically ventilated adds days to his recovery as
well as thousands of dollars to the care costs. Numerous studies have been conducted across the
county in an effort to understand VAP, however very few of those studies focus on

The research points to the idea that because many nurses are not responsible for the ventilator
circuit; they rely on the respiratory therapist to manage the ventilator, they may be less informed
than if they had more control and training in the interventions necessary to prevent VAP. The
research suggests more training and education for nurses who work with ventilated patients.
Research done at the University of Toledo College of Medicine has shown a decrease in the
incidence of VAP in its ten bed surgical ICU by implementing a FASTHUG protocol. Papadimos,
et al, (2008) explained the interventions that the college used as a tool to educate the critical care
team. FASTHUG stands for daily evaluation of feeding, analgesia, sedation, thromboembolic
prevention, head of bed elevation, ulcer prophylaxis, and glucose control in critically ill
intubated patients. The FASTHUG protocol was emphasized at morning and afternoon rounds
and after a 2 year research period the incidence of VAP declined to 7.3 VAPs/1000 ventilator
days down from a historical rate of 19.3 VAPs/1000 ventilator days. Of note, in 2007 the surgical
ICU that implemented this program actually had no incidence of VAP from January to May. The
research suggests that the use of bundled care processes for ventilated patients may reduce the rate
of VAP. The nurse s knowledge of the use of the ventilator bundle is crucial to

The perfect example of this situation is when we had to change labs for our advanced lab testing
portion related to the Partner for Health program. Originally we used HDL labatory however due
to some recent bad press we no longer felt this lab was a reliable option. We had to re assure both
the patients and the client that they would recieve the same quality of testing that they were use
to with previous lab draws. As part of choosing a labatory, I reseached labs that offered similar
advanced lab testing. I then sent the top three labs a proposal along with a list of questions. The
questions were based on level of service, customer satisfation, flexibilty, and a request for data
supporting population health research. Based on these responses... Show more content on

Once a lab was chosen, I met with their key players to discuss our expectations and further
explained the lab comparison that needed to be captured. I also met with their lipid specialists
to ensure that their test panel would closely mirror the test previously performed by HDL. For
those test that appeared differently, I had the specialists put together explainations to supply to
our staff, clients, and patients. To test the overall response to the change in the lab, I had the
first labs drawn at a board retreat where only 20 members were impacted instead of the 1200
enrollees. This allowed me to gather facts on a smaller spectrum and to make corrections before
we have all of the participants present for the lab draws. Some of the information received from
this test group was not positive but it was easily corrected. The things that needed to be addressed
were based on knowlegde deficit and a lack of communication between the client and our company
on some miscellanous issues. Once these concerns were identified an action plan was developed to
address these issues and to also combat the likelihood of any additional critical

Egyptian Queen Cleopatra
Egyptian Queen Cleopatra in all her glory will never be able to outgrow the reputation she
carries because of her past relationships. What many people do not know is that all of her
relationships were concentric to the goal she was trying to achieve. Although it would seem that
the reason men were so attracted to her was because of her beauty, however this is false.
Cleopatra s beauty was not the hook that caught all of the men; it was her knowledge of the world
and her maturity. Cleopatra was born in 69 b.c.e. in Alexandria, Egypt. She learned much in her
younger years as the daughter to the Egyptian pharaoh, Ptolemy XII. She visited many libraries and
museums as a child. In fact, these visits to the libraries and museums were the source... Show more

He states that while Cleopatra and Ptolemy were in the disagreement over who was to be the
ruler, she needed Caesars help to get her throne back. The only problem was she had been kicked
out of her palace and that was exactly where Caesar was. The brave and clever young Cleopatra
wrapped herself up into a carpet and, Apollo Dorus tied up the bedding and carried it on his back
through the gates to Caesars apartment. This story shows she had determination, love for her
kingdom, and that she was not all looks. (Worth

Within my organisation, there are several performance management issues which need to be
addressed to help my organisation gain a competitive advantage. Two performance management
issues which can easily be identifies are 1. Performance appraisal system this is conducted only
once per year and is done solely because it is the basis on which one obtains increment on salary.
This is conducted by one s immediate supervisor without prior consultation. 2. Staff development
the minimum academic qualification for the job is a first degree in the particular subject area
taught along with the required teacher s diploma. The Ministry of Education employs persons with
a minimum of Advanced level qualification and makes no demands on them to upgrade themselves.
It is incumbent on the individual to upgrade their qualification as well as to seek out all necessary
training to enhance their performance on the job.
Within this organization there exists no formal performance management system. This is limited to
the aforementioned performance appraisal.

Cultural Awareness Assessment
I have scored well on both assessments which consider me to be a particularly cultural sensitive
person. The cultural awareness assessment which I scored lower on was due to inexperience for
some of the questions that were asked. Question one, for example, asked, I listen to people from
other cultures when they tell me how my cultureaffects them is one experience I have yet to
encounter. I have always considered a person culture and briefs are fascinating in every fashion.
Growing up in a very diverse environment allowed me the opportunity to interact with people of
many different cultures, religions, beliefs, and practices. My personal experiences dealing with

Mendez, the sixty two year old Mexican patient. Nurses usually report that expressive patients
often come from Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean background. Mrs. Mendez was
expressing her pain after waking from sedation and was immediately was given morphine for
the pain. The morphine did nothing to ease the pain, so doctors checked her vital signs and
considered her stable. After being stereotyped, doctors discovered complication from the surgery
that was treated but may have been disastrous if not treated. It is highly critical that healthcare
provider never assumes or judge a patient, let alone stereotype them. Jehovah s Witness
prohibition about accepting blood transfusion is an excellent example of religious conflicts
when providing culturally sensitive care to patients. For Jehovah s Witness choosing to have a
blood transfusion can be interpreted as giving up the chance to spend eternity in heaven or
paradise in exchange for a few more years on earth. Utilizing the 4 C s is a great start to
providing care to all patients. Although the 4 C s helps a great deal, experience dealing with

Historic Homes Important For The Cultural Fabric Of The...
Introduction Not only are historic homes important for the cultural fabric of the community, they
also provide economic benefits. The adaptive reuse of existing structures is the greenest form of
building as it recycles all valuable parts, as opposed to the process of demolition and
construction that creates unnecessary waste and is more expensive. The preservation of existing
structures within historic districts provide a layer of protection for property values within the
neighborhood. Through the Mills Act, California has been successful in preserving the cultural
fabric of communities, preventing unsuitable alterations, and increasing the property value of
neighborhoods. San Diego is the leader in Mills Act contracts and has a documented history of
its effects. With the proven success of the Mills Act in San Diego, communities throughout
various states can use the Mills Act as a blueprint for a better preserved environment. Mills Act
History The rezoning of Coronado Island in 1971 impacted the taxation of historical landmarks
like the Hotel Del Coronado. In response, Senator James Mills developed the Mills Act in 1972.
The Mills Act allows local municipalities the option of starting a historic designation program.
Before his service as a senator, James Mills was known in San Diego as a historian, author, and
preservationist. A short year later, the Mills Act was deemed unconstitutional by the State Board of
Equalization. The Act was reviewed and reworked. By 1978, the

The Warriors Heart Important Quotes
The Credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena... who strives valiantly, who knows
the great enthusiasm, the great devotions, and who spends himself in worthy causes. Who, at
best, knows the triumph of high achievement, and who, at worst, if he fails, fails while daring
greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory
nor defeat by Theodore Roosevelt. I agree with this quote because if you don t work hard for what
you want or what you trying to do, who going to notice to give you and credit. It s okay to fail,
knowing you did everything you can. In The Warriors Heart by Eric Greiten deserves a lot of credit
for being a navy seal, going to college, exploring the world, helping aid workers heal orphaned
children and lived in camps. One thing Eric realized was that if you re going to help others you
need to make a difference.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Psychological Theories Of Assault
Assault is a violent crime that requires offensive touching, hitting, or frightening the victim by
word or deed. Assault crime can be upgraded to a felony when weapons are involved or abusing a
victim during the commission of a felony. Although assault can happen during crimes like robbery
and homicide, abuse happen mostly within a family or relationship (for example child abuse,
parental abuse, dating violence).
Psychological theory explains why a person will have a abuser behavior.. When looking at
psychological theory at the psychodynamic perspective, psychodynamic theory suggest human

Diagnosis and Treatment of Borderline Personality...
The diagnostic process for personality disorders currently covers a broad scope of various tests
and symptoms, causing a source of frustration for psychiatrists (Aldhous). The symptoms and side
effects of several personality disorders can tend to blur together, making diagnosis challenging
(Aldhous). Most psychiatric patients are diagnosed with several personality disorders at once, with
twenty percent of people with personality disorders simply diagnosed with a personality disordernot
otherwise specified (Aldhous). Using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health
Disorders, commonly referred to as the DSM, psychiatrists attempt with great difficulty to
categorize their patients into a specific disorder, only to diagnose... Show more content on

Though several personality disorders are highly complex and a challenge to treat, there are effective
treatments available ( Treating Borderline 1). The various treatments are broken down by method,
the first of which being cognitive behavioral therapy, which attempts to alter the conscious thoughts
and behavioral patterns of patients (Daniel); ( Treating Borderline 2). Cognitive behavior therapy
itself is broken down into two therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy and schema focused therapy
( Treating Borderline 2). Dialectical behavioral therapy, developed by Dr. Linehan, is centered on
the basis that personality disorders are formed when hypersensitive patients are in situations which
lack the emotional support they require, therefore leading to their inability to regulate emotions (
Treating Borderline 2). Thus, the treatment serves to help the patient gain control over their
emotion and behavior ( Treating Borderline 2). The treatment itself consists of group and individual
sessions and typically lasts approximately one year ( Treating Borderline 2). During the group
sessions, patients learn to become more aware of their behaviors and emotions through sessions
pertaining to problem solving, mindfulness meditation, and breath training ( Treating Borderline 2).
In personal sessions, referred to as psychotherapy, the psychiatrist explains to the patient how the
lessons from the group therapy sessions are applicable

  • 2. The Human Rights Act By Viscount Sankey Essay Decades before the implementation of the Human Rights Act , Viscount Sankey s prose in Woolmington v DPP alluded to the presumption of innocence as the one golden thread which runs through the web of English criminal law . He essentially establishes that the legal burden of proving the defendant s guilt lies with the prosecution . This principle is arguably underlying in every jurisdiction that respects ones right to a fair trial and is the foundation of the criminal law. There are two important themes that must be discussed relating to the principles set out in Woolmington: Firstly, in this case it was acknowledged that there can be instances where a reverse burden of proof is applied and that in fact, the onus is on the defendant to prove his innocence rather than for the prosecution to prove his guilt. Secondly, despite some departure from the Woolmington principle, it does not inevitably necessitate that the law has been unfaithful to its underlying rationale. A common deduction of the Woolmington principle is that Sankey, in his judgement, is ambiguous and left too much open to interpretation. Furthermore, it has been argued by Adrian Zuckerman that the way in which something is written can in fact lead to a justified imposition of a legal burden on the defendant and that the accused will only have to prove their innocence by disclosing an onerous burden in situations where legislation expressly commands them to. • 3. Minecraft Influence On Society When he set out to create a game, Markus Persson never dreamed of creating a worldwide phenomenon. His only motivation was coding, something that fueled him day in and day out. Persson loved to code, partly due to the influence of many other games he s played. Games such as Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, and Infiniminer all created a positive influence on his passion, and this directly translated in his product: Minecraft. Many of us know Minecraft through the big YouTube community conceptualized by this games byproduct. Minecraft has become a common household name, sprinkled throughout the large quantity of mainstream media (South Park being one of the prominent examples). Due to the nature of the game, visitors of the world would be able to interact and explore parts of the world. Many compare it to an interactive museum exhibit. The real beneficiaries, however, were educators. Many Minecraft creators were able to replicate historical events within the game. The newfound level of interactivity allowed students to explore and understand historical events like never before. Educators can also use Minecraft to build replications of settings within fictional literature. Student now have the ability to experience an interactive version of classic books, such as The Great Gatsby and various others. However, there is more educational gain than historical. The aforementioned Survival Mode boasts a strong resemblance to the real world. The base objective of the game is to find minerals and use them in order to survival. Real life ores, such and Iron and Gold, are replicated in game, with generally similar characteristics. This allows educators in the field of science to give interactive science lessons, engaging students further and creating a lasting impression that generates better educational results. These type of instances became so popular throughout the Minecraft community, that Mojang, the company who created Minecraft, has created an official Minecraft Education ... In an article from Diversity Global Magazine, Mr. Carter was named a 2013 Diversity Executive of Distinction. The article stated that Mr. Carter s focus on developing cutting edge Diversity and Inclusion programs and strategies is successful because it is aligned with the company s strategic business objective. As I researched deeper into the company s responsibility to its customers, employees, communities and shareholders I found that Johnson Johnson s respect towards these groups of people who keep the company alive is supported by Anthony s implementation and design of an inclusive global organizational system, as well as Diversity and Inclusion incentives. He has further developed opportunities for Johnson and Johnson to maximize their diversity. He oversees an office that implements programs such as Crossing the Finish Line, which is a career acceleration program for people of color. Programs such as these are crucial in developing world class diverse leaders. An interesting quote by Anthony P. Carter sums up his role nicely, Diversity and inclusion describe how we can work together to bring innovative ideas, products and services together to advance the health, well being and the quality of life of those we serve. A Comparison of Mrs Casper, Mr Sugden and Mr Farthing s Treatment of Billy in Barry Hines Billy s Last Stand In this essay I will attempt to compare the ways in which the three main characters in this story treat Billy, Mrs Casper, Mr Sugden and Mr Farthing. The book is set in the sixties in a mining village in Yorkshire. First of all I will discuss Billy, he is a young and naive boy, he is about to leave school which is a place he hates. To add to it all his motheris more interested in going out, than looking after her son, and also her other son Jud, he doesn t look after Billy at all. An example of Billy s rebellious side is on page 19. Billy get up to that shop and do as you re telled. He shook is head. His mother stepped forward, but he backed off, keeping the same distance between them. Billy was already late for school, yet his mother wanted him to go up to the shop and buy her cigarettes, this shows she is more concerned with herself than Billy, and his life and school. Another example of her not caring and showing affection was when Billy was reading his book and she asks about it, and when he is half way through explaining she realises she is late and runs out to go to the pub, leaving Billy to fend for himself. A kestrel hawk, what do you think it is? I say what time is it? She then runs out and leaves him to fend for himself. Further more, when Billy needs his mum the most and actually goes to hug his mother when he is in tears, she rejects him, shaking him off her and telling him to grow, this shows a lack of maternal qualities once again, and even shows she is embarrassed to be a ... • 8. A Separate Peace Analysis A Separate Peace by John Knowles follow the late high school experience of two high school boys, Gene Forrester and his best friend Phineas, in the midst of WWII. This coming of age novel explores the impact of WWII on those who were aware of the war, yet not fully involved in it. While the war affects all those in the school, its effects are most visible in the mind of Gene. Much of the actions of the main characters can be described in a quote by Eric Burdon, that Inside each of us, there is a seed of both good and evil. It s a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other . Gene s fluctuations between friend and foe, as well as Phineas disposition and untimely death both reflect the ideas of the quote, and while the actions of other main characters do not necessarily conform to the same standards, the quote accurately reflects the novel. In A Separate Peacenowhere is the struggle between good and evil more obvious than it is in Gene Forrester, as he switches between antagonism and friendliness throughout the novel. This conflict within is displayed when Gene visits Finny to admit his guilt, telling him I jounced the limb. I caused it.... I deliberately jounced the limb so that you would fall off (70). This display of honesty and friendship is tainted by the realization that Gene tried, and succeeded, in harming his friend. While Gene at some points wants to hate Finny, he likes him too much to ever truly give up on him, showing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Diversity in Higher Education With the ratification of the 14th Amendment in 1868, prohibiting states from passing laws that deny U.S. citizens from equal protection under the law, the Supreme Court has been obliged to provide decisions that are color blind (U.S. Const. Amend XIV, В§ 1). However, the Court often viewed education as a state issue and was reluctant to get involved. That all changed in the 1954 Supreme Court decision known as Brown v. Board of Educationof Topeka, Kansas. In this ruling, it was decided that, State sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th Amendment and was therefore constitutional (National Archives, n.d.). In preparation for the decision, the University of Colorado at Boulder began to look at other criterion, in addition to race, to promote diversity. They decided to focus on socioeconomic status since this was not protected under the Fourteenth Amendment and it promotes authentic diversity and equal opportunity (p. 371). They also wanted to be sure to maintain minority representation should race no longer be a consideration with the passage of Amendment 46. A study was conducted that evaluated two traits in determining socioeconomic status. The first was the Overachievement Indices. This evaluated how a student s test scores (e.g. ACT, SAT) and GPA compared with other students from the same socioeconomic background. The second was the Disadvantage Index. This evaluated criteria such as native language, family income level, and school location. Two mathematical equations were developed, in order to create a standard, by which to measure a student s socioeconomic status, and how this may affect their success at college. In 2009, the University at Colorado at Boulder conducted an experiment to see how its class based acceptance policy compared with its race based acceptance policy. They found that the class based acceptance rate was nine percent higher than considering race alone. Black, Latino, and Native American applicants were more likely to be admitted under the ... • 10. Globalization Of Dreams And Its Effects On Dreams Globalization of Dreams The focus of this study is to continue previous research relating the significance of cultures and dreams. These studies have set out to show what how much of an effect culture has on dreams. To measure this, other researchers have recorded participants typical dreams. These studies have helped us to understand some of the differences in beliefs, values, and structure of other cultures as well as the differences and similarities. Through analyzing the differences and similarities of our various cultures we learn what humans share in values as a whole and how our society influences our thinking and actions. By interviewing two people from two different collectivistic cultures, there should be a great deal of similarities between the two. Any differences recorded found will be derived from individual perspectives rather than culture. The goal of the research is to show culture doesn t heavily influence our dreams but rather individual perceptions of the world around them do. There isn t a significant difference in typical dreams between cultures, rather researchers tend to agree that culture doesn t have much of an effect on dreams and it has more to do with our individual perception of our day (Jaenicke 2009). He rose his blade and aimed it s pointed tip at her, continuously shifting his weight until he was satisfied. And you for power, she shot back, tightening her grip on the hilt of her weapon. Tadashi examined her face although her expression bore no emotion. Her eyes were cold and glassy, lips straightened in a tight line. Today, she was going to kill him. She lunged forwards, springing across the frozen tundra silently and swiftly. Snow was tossed around her body as she leapt towards Tadashi with a murderous intent. Plunging her blade at his chest, she was left thrusting madly at empty air. Tadashi countered, swinging his swordwith such strong momentum that his opponent was sent staggering backwards. But he suspected it wouldn t be so easy. Her shape flickered and disappeared from sight, leaving Tadashi to patiently await her next strike. Nothing but the sound of the howling wind could be heard. A knowing smile crossed his face and he swivelled on his heels, meeting her attack with the satisfying clang of metal upon metal. • 14. Coffee And Tea Compare And Contrast comparing tea and coffee Coffee or tea? That s a question asked on many occasions. At first glance, these drinks seem quite different, and both coffee and tea enthusiasts will agree that the two beverages are in no way comparable. However, if you take a closer look you can see quite a lot of similarities between the two drinks. In our society, coffeeand tea are extremely popular drinks. Tea is the second most consumed drinks in the world, surpassed only by water. Coffee too is one of the most well liked beverages, and popular all over the world. Though, it cannot completely live up to tea in terms of sales. Although unroasted coffee is one of the worlds most traded agricultural goods, the yearly sales of tea almost double the sales of coffee. Comparing their history, both coffee and tea have been around for quite a long time. According to legends, tea was first discovered in southwestern China 3000 BC during the Chinese Tang dynasty. It became popular among Chinese and Japanese priests and scholars who drank it during meditation, but was not introduced to Europe until the 16th century. • 15. The Pianist Essay The Pianist is a cinematic masterpiece by the Polish director Roman Polanski. One of the key ideas that appear throughout much of the film is that of hope being instrumental in our survival . This idea is portrayed through Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish pianist, as he struggles for survival in Warsaw as everybody that he once knew and everything that he once had is lost. The idea of hope being instrumental in our survival is worth learning about as it allows the audience to realise the importance of hope in todays society and to understand how Polanski uses musicto symbolise hope for Szpilman in the film. It is moments such as these that help to maintain Szpilman s willingness to survive by keeping silent, but also how piano gives fills him with the hope that is instrumental in his survival. In other scenes such as when a German officer asks Szpilman to play piano for him, and allows him to live because of his immense talent we begin to realise that Szpilman s hope music, does not only help him to survive mentally, but also physically as he can share the gift that he has to others. It is also important to note that Polanski only music by the Polish composer, Chopin is used throughout The Pianist . His sad and evocative music brings upon a sad mood, yet one with a hint of hope and with this, the director can more vividly express his ideas a way that dialogue or action cannot. Another oral feature used throughout the film to express the director s idea of hope being instrumental to our survival is dialogue. Discharges emitted from volleys into the environment can cause prey in hiding to experience involuntary muscle twitching causing it to be revealed to the eel. The revelation of hidden prey allows the eel to continue its attack and go into predatory strike mode. This study (Catania, 2014) sets out to show that the powerful shocks produced by eels activate motor neurons in their prey causing muscle contractions in the prey to be temporarily halted and the eel to be able to control their target through high frequency volleys. An eel was placed in a naturalistic experimental environment with other fish and the fishes response to high voltage pulses was observed. If there was a strong enough discharge, the fish was unable to move on its on accord and was captured by the eel. A pitched fish was placed behind an agar barrier, which received the same discharge as the eel directed toward earthworms placed in the same environment. • 22. Gerald Fridman a.Agreement or promise theory Gerald Fridman contends that the primary purpose of contract law is to enforce the agreement of the parties. Agreement is the central element in determining whether there is a contract. Also, the existence of a contract requires the parties voluntarily intend to be bound by the agreement. In interpreting contracts, courts are primarily trying to carry out the intent of the contractual parties; therefore, when one party frustrates the intentions of the other party, a breach occurs. Charles Fried asserts that enforcing promises is the main purpose of contract law. One initiates a contract by invoking the practice of promising, and the other party can reasonably trust him or she will perform as promised in the future. If one fails to fulfill the promises, he or she then damages or ruins the trust, and exhibits disrespect for the other party. This behavior is morally wrong and condemned by the society. To enforce promises, the social practice of promising should be supplemented with additional rules or standards. The role of contract law is to provide rules and standards to further that purposes. When the promise principle under Fried s theory does not provide a ground for relief, other contract law principles may still fill the gap. For example, the principle of benefit requires compensating others for non gift benefits received from them. Additionally, contract law also enforces promise by awarding expectation ... Amnesty works to protect the safety of millions of refugees who are forced to flee their homes to escape war, genocide and torture. The main debate of this issue is of national security vs human rights. Every Australian has their stance on this and for those that oppose it, often believe that we are letting in terrorists . This generalisation, based off ill legitimate fear, is anything but true. In fact, it is just racist. According to the the Australian Parliamentary Library, between 70 100% of people who arrived by boat have been found to be refugees. This means, these individuals have been forced to leave their ... • 40. Moral Ambiguous Characters In The Crucible Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit (Proverb 12:17). The Bible represented the law of the land in 1600 s Salem. Religion influenced peoples actions and dominated societal norms. Rules set out by the Bible had to be followed because anyone who breaks it gets sentenced to death. When the threat of witchcrafthit the town, mass hysteria questioned peoples character and integrity. The stories are chronicled in Arthur Miller s book, The Crucible. Marry Warren is introduced as a moral ambiguous character because of her altered involvement in Elizabeth Proctors trial. Arthur Miller, author of The Crucible, provides establishing ethos, commanding logos, and decisive pathos to convey the message of integrity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With consistent persuasion from John, Mary agrees to talk to the Mr. Danforth, the judge over looking the trial, about faults in her accusations. She admits to faking and only cried spirits because the other girls were (pg. 100). With this event, Mary demonstrates that she does not have integrity. Regret, accompanied with pity, assists Mary in convincing Mr. Danforth but it does not work in her favor because he does not want to backtrack on previous convictions made. Feelings of regret are very influential in determining a persons actions. Miller uses Mary, who has now shown to be morally uncertain, as a scapegoat for all the girls who are fabricating seeing the devil. As tensions rise, Mary becomes unsettled by the consequences that follow lying under oath. Swapping sides once again to save her life, she proclaims, I ll not hang with you! I love God, I love God (pg. 110). Striking emotion from her declaration tells a story of discord between her ethical thinking. She is now only worried about her life and the author incorporates pathos to make her claim stronger. Fear is the single greatest motivator for humans and Mary is fearful. John will see the repercussions of these actions by facing death later in the book. Due to Mary s incapacity of raining truthful, an innocent citizen would sentenced to ... • 41. Ventilator Associated Pneumonia in the Icu Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is a nosocomial infection occurring in hospitalized patients who are mechanically ventilated. These infections are common in ICU settings, difficult to diagnose early, and unfortunately have a high rate of mortality and morbidity. VAP accounts for almost half of infections in ICU settings, up to 28% of mechanically ventilated patients will develop VAP and of these patients the mortality rate is between 20% and 70% (Craven Steger, 1998). A patient that develops VAP while mechanically ventilated adds days to his recovery as well as thousands of dollars to the care costs. Numerous studies have been conducted across the county in an effort to understand VAP, however very few of those studies focus on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The research points to the idea that because many nurses are not responsible for the ventilator circuit; they rely on the respiratory therapist to manage the ventilator, they may be less informed than if they had more control and training in the interventions necessary to prevent VAP. The research suggests more training and education for nurses who work with ventilated patients. Research done at the University of Toledo College of Medicine has shown a decrease in the incidence of VAP in its ten bed surgical ICU by implementing a FASTHUG protocol. Papadimos, et al, (2008) explained the interventions that the college used as a tool to educate the critical care team. FASTHUG stands for daily evaluation of feeding, analgesia, sedation, thromboembolic prevention, head of bed elevation, ulcer prophylaxis, and glucose control in critically ill intubated patients. The FASTHUG protocol was emphasized at morning and afternoon rounds and after a 2 year research period the incidence of VAP declined to 7.3 VAPs/1000 ventilator days down from a historical rate of 19.3 VAPs/1000 ventilator days. Of note, in 2007 the surgical ICU that implemented this program actually had no incidence of VAP from January to May. The research suggests that the use of bundled care processes for ventilated patients may reduce the rate of VAP. The nurse s knowledge of the use of the ventilator bundle is crucial to ... • 42. Collaboration Reflection Paper The perfect example of this situation is when we had to change labs for our advanced lab testing portion related to the Partner for Health program. Originally we used HDL labatory however due to some recent bad press we no longer felt this lab was a reliable option. We had to re assure both the patients and the client that they would recieve the same quality of testing that they were use to with previous lab draws. As part of choosing a labatory, I reseached labs that offered similar advanced lab testing. I then sent the top three labs a proposal along with a list of questions. The questions were based on level of service, customer satisfation, flexibilty, and a request for data supporting population health research. Based on these responses... I also met with their lipid specialists to ensure that their test panel would closely mirror the test previously performed by HDL. For those test that appeared differently, I had the specialists put together explainations to supply to our staff, clients, and patients. To test the overall response to the change in the lab, I had the first labs drawn at a board retreat where only 20 members were impacted instead of the 1200 enrollees. This allowed me to gather facts on a smaller spectrum and to make corrections before we have all of the participants present for the lab draws. Some of the information received from this test group was not positive but it was easily corrected. The things that needed to be addressed were based on knowlegde deficit and a lack of communication between the client and our company on some miscellanous issues. Once these concerns were identified an action plan was developed to address these issues and to also combat the likelihood of any additional critical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What many people do not know is that all of her relationships were concentric to the goal she was trying to achieve. Although it would seem that the reason men were so attracted to her was because of her beauty, however this is false. Cleopatra s beauty was not the hook that caught all of the men; it was her knowledge of the world and her maturity. Cleopatra was born in 69 b.c.e. in Alexandria, Egypt. She learned much in her younger years as the daughter to the Egyptian pharaoh, Ptolemy XII. She visited many libraries and museums as a child. • 46. Historic Homes Important For The Cultural Fabric Of The... Introduction Not only are historic homes important for the cultural fabric of the community, they also provide economic benefits. The adaptive reuse of existing structures is the greenest form of building as it recycles all valuable parts, as opposed to the process of demolition and construction that creates unnecessary waste and is more expensive. The preservation of existing structures within historic districts provide a layer of protection for property values within the neighborhood. Through the Mills Act, California has been successful in preserving the cultural fabric of communities, preventing unsuitable alterations, and increasing the property value of neighborhoods. San Diego is the leader in Mills Act contracts and has a documented history of its effects. With the proven success of the Mills Act in San Diego, communities throughout various states can use the Mills Act as a blueprint for a better preserved environment. Mills Act History The rezoning of Coronado Island in 1971 impacted the taxation of historical landmarks like the Hotel Del Coronado. In response, Senator James Mills developed the Mills Act in 1972. The Mills Act allows local municipalities the option of starting a historic designation program. Before his service as a senator, James Mills was known in San Diego as a historian, author, and preservationist. A short year later, the Mills Act was deemed unconstitutional by the State Board of Equalization. The Act was reviewed and reworked. By 1978, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The diagnostic process for personality disorders currently covers a broad scope of various tests and symptoms, causing a source of frustration for psychiatrists (Aldhous). The symptoms and side effects of several personality disorders can tend to blur together, making diagnosis challenging (Aldhous). Most psychiatric patients are diagnosed with several personality disorders at once, with twenty percent of people with personality disorders simply diagnosed with a personality disordernot otherwise specified (Aldhous). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though several personality disorders are highly complex and a challenge to treat, there are effective treatments available ( Treating Borderline 1). The various treatments are broken down by method, the first of which being cognitive behavioral therapy, which attempts to alter the conscious thoughts and behavioral patterns of patients (Daniel); ( Treating Borderline 2). Cognitive behavior therapy itself is broken down into two therapies, dialectical behavioral therapy and schema focused therapy ( Treating Borderline 2). Dialectical behavioral therapy, developed by Dr. Linehan, is centered on the basis that personality disorders are formed when hypersensitive patients are in situations which lack the emotional support they require, therefore leading to their inability to regulate emotions ( Treating Borderline 2). Thus, the treatment serves to help the patient gain control over their emotion and behavior ( Treating Borderline 2). The treatment itself consists of group and individual sessions and typically lasts approximately one year ( Treating Borderline 2). During the group sessions, patients learn to become more aware of their behaviors and emotions through sessions pertaining to problem solving, mindfulness meditation, and breath training ( Treating Borderline 2). In personal sessions, referred to as psychotherapy, the psychiatrist explains to the patient how the lessons from the group therapy sessions are applicable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
