Claude Mckay America
America by Claude Mckay is a poem and also a sonnet. Most sonnets in the time of Williams
Shakespeare were always about a person feelings towards something and that s exactly what he
did. He wrote about the feelings he has towards America. According to a biography I read about
Claude Mckay, he was a Jamaican who immigrated to the United States. He was a poet and was
inspired to write several poems in New York. It started off stating, Although she feeds me bread of
bitterness, And sinks into my throat her tiger s tooth. He mentions how America is a Her, in other
words, comparing America to a woman like a motherly figure. Those first two stances meant disgust
towards America and also expresses his dependence on the country as well. Throughout

Green Champion Paper
Brewing of a Sustainable Idea
In the current day and age, environmental issues are beginning to be considered more frequently
in business decision and in governmental policy. The current threat of global warming, sea level
rise, ocean acidification, and extinction of species highlight the consequences of not being
environmentally aware. Even the smallest green decisions like choosing to car pool or to recycle
can be decisions that have a huge impact that positively effects the environment. These decisions
can have far reaching implications. For instance, someone who witnesses these green decisions
may be inspired to make environmentally conscious decisions as well. Much in the same way
people could be inspired, businesses can be inspired as well. Creating a sustainability initiative in a
business can be extremely positive and rewarding. For this reason, I think it is vital that the local
beer brewing company, COOP Ale Works, adopt a sustainability program. Many breweries have
adopt sustainable framework, two such examples are New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada. I
believe by implementing some of these ideals into their brewing process COOP can inspire other
businesses to become more sustainable. In this paper I will mention the current problems with the
brewing process, highlight the changes that can be made based off of current implementation at
breweries, and present a four point plan to

Piaget s Stages Of Moral Development
Adolescence is the transition between childhood and adulthood (Berk, 2014, p. 361). During
adolescence, children and teenagers begin to form their identity, establishing who they are based
on their values and goals (Berk, 2014, p. 361). Adolescence typically begins with puberty and is
followed by changes in motor and cognitive development (Berk, 2014, p. 362). During adolescence,
teenagers often experience Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development, Erikson s Theory of
Development, and Kohlberg s 3 Levels of Moral Development. These theories and ideas have
helped form the basis of normal adolescent development. Piaget s Stages of Cognitive
Development describes how the use of more advanced and abstract thinking occurs in a sequence

382). Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development include the sensorimotor stage, the
preoperational stage, the concrete operational stage, and the formal operational stage (Gross,
2016). According to Piaget, people enter the formal operational stage at the age of 11, meaning
they begin to develop the capacity to think abstractly, scientifically, and systematically (Berk,
2014, p. 382). Two major features of the formal operational stage include hypothetico deductive
reasoning and propositional thought. Hypothetico deductive reasoning is similar to the
scientific method in the sense that adolescents, when faced with a problem, form a hypothesis
and test it using variables that they believe might affect the outcome of the problem (Berk,
2014, p. 382). They are able to separate or combine variables in a way that allows them to solve
their problems in the real world (Berk, 2014, p. 382). Propositional thought, however, is an
adolescent s ability to determine the logic of a statement without referring to or re creating real
world circumstances (Berk, 2014, 383). In addition to being able to think more scientifically and
systematically, adolescents begin to learn how to interpret and observe others (Oswalt, 2010).
They learn to observe other people s behavior, comments, and expressions and use the information
to make logical guesses as to what other people are thinking, feeling, or needing (Oswalt, 2010).
Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development, in addition to an adolescent s ability to learn how to
interpret and observe others, are shown in the movie High School Musical. The first time Troy uses
his ability to interpret and observe others is when Gabriella decides to audition for the school
musical. Troy recognizes that this was important to Gabriella, which is why he offers to be her
partner for the audition. Troy and Gabriella later use Piaget s stage of

The Importance Of Professional Behavior In Nursing
Professional behavior is defined as the way a person acts towards others in a professional setting.
As a nurse this could be mean the way you respond or act towards patients, supervisors, and co
workers. The way nurse s respond is important because it can affect the patient and others around
them. Nurse s are held to a higher standard when it comes to being trustworthy and professional.
They are expected to hold values of Beneficence, nonmaleficence, and autonomy. Black mentioned
the definition of beneficence is determining what is good or best for the patient. Autonomy is when
the individual has the right to make their own decisions in health care. Black (2014) defined
nonmaleficence as the duty to not put the patient in harm. To behave in a professional way can
allow the nurseto create a therapeutic relationship with the patient. Allowing the patient to trust that
the nurse s response is in the best interest and respect of the patient (NCSBN). By having the best
interest in the patient s outcome, the nurse would abstain from attaining personal gain at the patient
s expense. The space between the patient s vulnerability and the nurse s power is where
professional boundaries are met (NCSBN). A hypothetical situation that could easily break
professional boundaries without intent would be favoritism towards a patient. In health care
facilities nurseswill treat patients for long term care and become very close with their patients.
Nurse s will find themselves favoring

The Reflection Of Human Nature, By Seamus Heaney
Firstly, Heaney uses the structure of the poem to tell us about human nature. For example, the
slow, familiar rhythm of the iambic pentameter creates a reflective tone where the voice in the
poem looks back at the lessons learnt in the past. This shows how we glamorize the past even
our bad experience so we can learn from them. The two uneven stanzas with gently half rhyming
couplets add a softness and a musical lilt without imposing too much rigidity. This also reflects
the romantic memory and romanticised view of nature that we apply on our past experience
however gruesome. Plus, by using lists and multiple points of enjambment Heaney give the poem
a childlike and excited tone. This conveys the image not only of children and their views on the
world but how we look into the past and become children again recalling the events that faced our
young selves. Finally the long first stanza filled with the collection of the good, ripe fruit is
destroyed quickly from the short, second stanza full of rot and decay. I believe that this suggest that
however much we we gather and hoard our wealth will always deteriorate, often though death. This
emphasise how horrible the human nature of hoarding is, as it will always end in hardship.
Heaney also describes human nature though caesuras which are scattered throughout the poem.
For example,a caesura at the end of lust for picking makes the reader linger on the word picking
, stressing the action. This conveys the message that It is not the blackberries but the activity
that they lust after. This first caesura of joy and happiness is then juxtaposed by the next cesura
Like a plate of eyes. . This is a disconcerting image that matches the earlier images of flesh and
clots. It is also as if they are staring at him accusing him of hoarding all the fruit that he won t be
able to eat, plus the fact that he wrote it shows he is remorseful for his greed. The contrast between
these two caesuras suggests the message that it is human nature that our greed will always take
over the joy of the activity.
The seven deadly sins are scattered throughout the poem and helps Heaney describe human nature.
Firstly, Heaney say that after we pick the fruit we hoarded them in the barn.

Compare And Contrast Mental Health Counseling
When considering therapy, mental health counseling is typically what most people think of
regarding the word. However, mental health counseling has a unique approach that brings an
extensive definition to the meaning of care CITATION Smi95 l 1033 (Smith Robinson, 1995).
Mental health counselors (MHC) have a board understanding and responses that contributes to the
development of the counseling profession. Most mental healthcounselors assist individuals how to
cope during difficult life events such as relationship issues and the death of a loved one, while
others help manage mental disorder/illness like depression or bipolar disorders. Throughout
chronicle of events regarding counseling, many individuals perceived the term counseling in the
wrong manner. People believed that counseling was used as a way of guidance rather than a
person who listens and help resolve issues. Counseling was not properly introduced until the late
1890s, where it was considered less of assistance and more of a form of advice. It was during the
Industrial Revolution, when the concern to improve the lives of the citizens involved increased the
need of counseling. During this period, large array of individuals such as teachers and social
reformers focused on educating the younger generations about the world around them CITATION
Han12 l 1033 (Hanson, 2012). Though both counseling and guidance focuses on helping, there is a
major difference between the two. Counseling is used primarily to help the

Pesticide and Insecticide
INTRODUCTION
Agriculture is the keystone of the Indian economy. Ensuring food security for more than1 billion
Indian populations with diminishing cultivable land resource is a herculean task. This
necessitates use of high yielding variety of seeds, balance use of fertilizers, judicious use of
quality pesticides along with education to farmers and the use of modern farming techniques. It is
estimated that India approximately loses 18 percent of the crop yield valued at Rs.900 billion due
to pest attack each year. The use of pesticides help to reduce the crop losses, provide economic
benefits to farmers, reduce soil erosion and helping ensuring food safety security for the nation. The

Capote s Narrative Voice
Throughout the novel, Capote appoints several narrative voices. For example, in the first
paragraph within lines 1 12, Capote is speaking himself with the use of third person narration.
During this paragraph, he describes the setting of the novel and uses imagery to portray its scenery.
Within his description of Holcomb, Kansas, the town is perceived as quiet and lonesome, where
nothing out of the ordinary occurs. In this section he speaks in a calm tone, creating a calm setting,
which is ironic due to all of the chaos that arises in it. Another narrativevoice, on page 66, is

Mandatory Arrests for Domestic Violence Do More Harm than Good
Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a common problem. As a result, the criminal
justice adapted to demands, especially from feminists, who bemoaned the poor response of police,
and in turn, the justice system by instituting mandatory arrests. However, mandatory arrests have
proven that just like protection or restraining orders, they are not effective in deterring domestic
violence (Davis, 2008). Similarly, the arrests do not have a substantial effect on recidivism and
create undue procedural complications for the criminal system (Zelcer, 2014). On the contrary,
proponents of the approach, argue that it has a deterrent effect on the perpetrators and that it can
even protect offer immediate protection for the victims (Clark, 2010). Nonetheless, using statistical
evidence and arguments from scholarly sources, this position paper will expose the inefficiencies
and constitutional inconsistencies that make mandatory arrests harmful for the batterer, victim, and
the criminal justice system.

Cultural Values In Sports
Sports are an essential aspect of American society; they are indispensable when it comes to their
impact in many public areas, including economics and the mass media. Sport coincides with
community values and political agencies, as it attempts to define the morals and ethics attributed
not only to athletes, but the totality of society. Fans of spectator sports find a reaffirmation of key
societal values through sports, as they give meaning to their own lives. By becoming fans,
spectators engage in certain kinds of pleasures, fulfilling their own desires... writes Brummett (21).
The world of sports allows us the opportunity to gain vital insight into the sensitive issues of racism,
sexism, and classism, but the implications of the attention we give them are alarming.
Delaney writes, to ignore sports is to ignore a significant aspect of any society and its culture (7),
continuing to note, sport is the opiate of the masses, because we are in the age of the sport
consumer, which is dissimilar to the age of the sport spectator (14). By placing a value on a specific
athlete, you are not only defining that athlete based on their attributes, you are giving them a
specific worth which ultimately translates into the worth of that specific sport, which is why we
unjustly deem certain sports more imperative than others. The integration of sports into American
culture is something that we, as both fans and consumers, rely on to provide us with not only a
means of entertainment, but

Teaching Principles Of The Game Teaching Essay
3. Teaching principles in the use of the game teaching
If teachers want to play a better role of game teaching, they must focus more on the following
points. First, game contents and methods require national design. Based on game teaching, teachers
will reasonably and flexibly arrange teaching activities, avoiding excessive interference on students.
Through a series of activities, students attentions are kept so that the whole learning goes toward
the direction of teaching principles.
Second, game teaching is more difficult to organize in the classroom because of students lacking
autonomy, and the classroom will become confusing. All of these should be taken into full
consideration while designing class activities. Usually there are five principles that should be
noticed(Chen Shuting,2008).
3.1 Objective principle
English classroom games should have a clear purpose. While designing a game, teachers must be
very clear about the purpose of the game is to let students master something. The objective of the
game is not only to activate atmosphere to make students feel at ease, but also allow them to obtain
knowledge, making the game serve the purpose of language training, pronunciation correcting,
grammar consolidating. The design should be combined with teaching purpose of the game, and the
game s designing and carrying out have to stick to the teaching content. Thus, the design of the
game must run through the theme, lest students only remember the game but not knowing what

Admittedly, form, length and literary devices are not requisite to a poem, as many fine free
verse poems illustrate, but this poem does not compensate for its lack of structure by enhancing
its other aspects. In Mary Oliver s poem Morning, there are no devices aside from alliteration,
yet Oliver s poem is much more complex and interesting for other reasons. The imagery is more
artistic, the words more creative, the syntax more fluid. Oliver describes the linoleum, the wild
words, and the curvaceous response of the lightly leaping cat. The only adjectives Williams uses,
delicious, sweet, and cold, are so common as to have been rendered banal in every reader s mind.
Rather than making the ordinary appear extraordinary through the clarity and discreteness of his
imagery, as the Encyclopaedia Britannica asserts, Williams succeeds only in making the ordinary
appear well, ordinary.
In fact, the whole poem is rather dull. There is no intrigue, no unusual phrase which catches the
attention, no unexpected yet perfect images such as Emily Dickinson s idea of quartz contentment
in her poem After great pain, a formal feeling comes . One might argue that Dickinson s poem
would naturally be more weighty because she was discussing a great pain, yet it is neither the
simplicity of Williams poem nor the

Similarities Between Martin Luther King And Gandhi
Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi both share the same philosophies on their approach to
non violence and directly opposing injustice, nonetheless, they have distinct methods to fight
injustice, such as the fact that Gandhi used more extreme tactics while King s techniques were
more passive. Given these points, Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi are perfect examples
of individuals who represent fighting for the good life, not only did they fight for themselves, but
also for the people around them. When King and Gandhi stood up to the injustice taking place, they
both used methods of nonviolence, though they had different ways of fighting it. Martin Luther

They both represent what it means to fight for the good life and for others. King and Gandhi
both share the same philosophies on their approach to non violence and directly opposing
injustice. However, even though their philosophies are similar they have distinct methods to
fight injustice. King s philosophy regarding fighting for the good life is better than Gandhi s
approach. Gandhi s extreme methods of going on hunger strikes aren t widely practiced today
and could lead to starvation or death. Orwell even mentioned it in his book It is difficult to see
how Gandhi s methods could be applied in a country where opponents of the regime disappear in
the middle of the night and are never heard of again (Orwell, 1949). On the other hand, King s
passive methods are more accepted and the four steps to nonviolent campaigns are still being
used today by activists. King and Gandhi both had visions of the good life they wanted for
themselves and others around them. King wanted the black community to be treated fairly and
have equal rights as the whites. He knew it wouldn t be given to them and that if his people
really wanted to be treated fairly they were going to have to fight vigorously for it. In contrast,
Gandhi s vision of the good life included India s independence and true peace across the world.
While Gandhi may have achieved India s independence his goal for world peace is going to take

Aside from the comical regularity of the characters and storyline, the funniest part of Trailer Park
Boys comes from the characters overreaction or lack of reaction to the shenanigans they get
themselves into. One example is Ricky and Julian s opinions about prison. Despite attempting to
maintain their freedom, Ricky and Julian confidently admit that they don t mind, or better yet, love
being in prison. In the episode Dear Santa Claus. Go Fuck Yourself, Ricky tells the cameraman that
there is nothing better than being in jail at Christmas. Later on, however, Ricky would throw a tire
iron threw his dad s trailer because he ate the last of his pepperoni. The show s comedic style is
unique from most other comedies in that it lacks a punchline, and the humor derives from the
characters themselves, instead of their current predicaments.
The trailer park in which the show takes place is a setting rarely seen in on television (excluding
Cops that is). Other than Ricky, who lives in a broken down car, and Bubbles, who lives in a
shed, most of the characters in Trailer Park Boys live in crummy and broken down trailers. While
each character s financial situation is unique, everyone, including the trailer park supervisor, is

Boyle Vs Descartes Essay
When talking about both primary and secondary qualities, the topic can automatically relate back
to two Corpuscularian philosophers: Robert Boyle and Rene Descartes. Both Boyle and
Descartes advocate the distinction between both primary and secondary qualities. It should be
noted that Boyle was influenced by Descartes , thus Boyle s ideas were built from Descartes
theories. In one case, Descartes proposes the idea that there is not a possibility of a void, but
Boyle experimented with this idea and concluded that there could be a vacuum. This denial of the
vacuum by Descartes is the one difference in which Descartes did not support the idea s of
corpuscularism. Relating back to secondary qualities, these qualities are given the characteristics...

Boyle breaches the topic of secondary qualities in The Origin of Forms and Qualities discussing
the natures of these qualities not as real or unreal but as causally dependent on other bodies in
the universe. This idea is discussed in Boyle s Origins of Forms and Qualities saying, I observe
that when one body works upon another, the knowledge we have of their operation proceeds
either from sensible quality, or some more catholic affection of matter, as motion rest or texture,
generated or destroyed in one of the; for else it is hard to conceive how we should come to
discover what passes betwixt them (The Origin of Forms and Qualities, 32). When talking about
the idea of redness within an object Boyle proposes that the sense of seeing the color red is
derived from the combination the perceiver and other bodies. Boyle offers that if colors can be
related to the body, they must be reducible to simple mechanistic qualities. Boyle concludes that
mechanistic qualities are simple meaning that they cannot be further reducible; allowing them to be
attributed to be dependent upon bodies dependency on other bodies. Further contrasting with
Descartes, Boyle can be classified as what is known as being an empiricist, stating that experiences
come specifically from the experiences of senses. This classification of Boyle backs up his beliefs
that secondary qualities are dependent on the relationship between the human and other

Similarities Between The Articles Of Confederation And The...
The United States has been progressively influenced under two foundations, better known as The
Articles of Confederation and the U.S Constitution. The first being the Articles of Confederation,
which was established on March 1, 1771. Henceforth, The Constitution restored the Articles on June
21, 1788. The differences and similarities between the two are pronounced, and they merit thorough
analysis.
Beginning with the Articles, this was the very first endeavor that systemized a national government
in the New World. After the United Statesdeclared its independence from Great Britain, the Articles
served as a written testimony which generally prohibited the states from carrying out their own
foreign diplomacy. The Albany Plan was a failed attempt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Directed by George Washington, the delegates signed the Constitution in 1787 in hopes of creating
a more stable and secure national government; securing fundamental rights for citizens. This well
founded plan implanted the government with three branches (executive, judicial and legislative), in
addition to a checks balances system that certified no particular branch would have more power
over another.
While both documents were created in hopes of unifying our states, they have several dissimilarities
and correlations. The biggest disconnection being that the Articles gave power to states respectively
with very little government dominance, whereas the Constitution granted prime authority to the
central government. Additionally, the Articles allowed one Congress to be given power, alike the
Constitution, yet not limited to. The Constitution allowed one power given Congress, the Senate
and the House of Representatives. In the process of ratifying both documents, consent was
necessary. However, the Articles necessitated an undisputed (unanimous) approval while the
Constitution needed compliance from only 9 out of the 13 states. Congress had to prepare a Bill of
Rights to gain the support for many of the states to adhere to the Constitution. From the voting, to
the taxes, as well as the amendments, and the laws, the Constitution serves as an upgrade of the
Articles. On the other hand, both documents were established

Death Penalty In Texas
The death penalty is the punishment of execution. The death penalty was authorized by 32 states,
the Federal Government, and the U.S. Military. Throughout the years, the method of the death
penalty has changed. Not only has the way it is performed been altered, but also the way our
presidential candidates view the death penalty. For example, when George Bush was governor of
Texas in the 1990s, he approved executions. He sent some to death who might have been
innocent. Death sentences in Texas have dropped nearly 80% since 1999. In 1977, Oklahoma
became the first state to adopt lethal injection as a form of execution. Lethal injection is the
primary method used. On December 2, 1982, Charles Brooks became the first person executed
by lethal injection in Texas. Besides the deadly injection, the electric chair nicknamed Old
Sparky, was also an execution method. Texas, along with Louisiana, Ohio, and Illinois used the
electric chair. The electric chair was in use from 1924 until 1964. Old Sparky was said to have

The Psychological And Psychological Crises Of Kuber And Yank
Sometimes, rather most often, some questions, raised by the impuissant,are never answered;
rather suppressed. Some are never raised as the powerless people, who do not possess the internal

in severe crisis of existence throughout their life span living as inferior, in terms of every

opposite classes : one is the upper class, that always endeavors to exploit the opposite class and,

different forms with the mechanical tools adopted cunningly, foolishly, intentionally,
unintentionally and consciously or subconsciously by the upper class.

Investment and Debt Capacity
Stock Repurchase
Repurchase of stock can be viewed in each of the following way: investment, financing, shareholder
distribution and control issue.
Repurchase of stock can be a way to use firm s excess debt capacity. By doing so, firm can lower
the cost of equity financing. If debt financing is more flexible and cheap, replace equity financing
with debt financing is a good way to lower the weighted cost of capital. In this sense, such action is
a financing issue because it controls the cost of financing.
On the other hand, repurchase of stock can adjust shareholder distribution. If shareholders consist
of most individual investors, they may require more dividends or other forms of profit sharing. Firm
can repurchase stocks from such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To decide when to sell the property, we analyze the remaining present value of future cash flow of a
hotel at different point of time in its life cycle. We further assume that when the hotel is sold, the
selling price is set so that present value of future cash flow equals the 10% margin.
We assume $50 revenue per room night of a typical 150 room hotel, and one year has 360 days.
Sales level for each year in the life cycle connects to the occupancy rate. From the graph of Exhibit
9, we get different occupancy rate for the whole life cycle. It reaches the peak 100% at year 8, and
after year 10, it declines almost linearly to 10% in year 30.
We can see that if Marriot sells the hotel before opening, the selling price would be $1.63 million
at time 0. After the peak, let s say, year 9, the selling price would be $ 1.55 million at time 9. We
can also see that in fact the max value of PV is at year 4, which has $2.85 million in PV at 15%
margin. Marriot would free up more capital if it sells the hotel before opening, but instead it
would lose more operating profit. If Marriot is in short of capital, it could sell the hotel up front
so that the freed up capital can be invested in other profitable projects. Selling after the peak is a
good choice if Marriot wants to enjoy the increasing operating profit before the peak. Shareholder
value can be added if the return on freed up capital exceeds the profit loss from

In general, women as a group are economically unequal due to the fact that they are essentially
expected to raise children and be a superb mother. Society has assigned women the social role of
caregiver and there is no denying that this has a crucial impact on the lives of women; this plays a
major factor in why women are being viewed as being subordinate to men. In the past the vast
majority of women were known as housewives and society places a stigma on women which causes
them to lose their independence. As Day s article The Indivisibility of Women s Human Rights
states they are viewed as adjuncts to men, not independent human beings with full rights to inherit
property, conduct business, make economic decisions, and be economically independent. (The
Indivisibility of Women s Human Rights, Shelagh Day), they in this case is referring to the women.
Females have no independency; they cannot even make their own decisions when it comes to
important settlements. Women are essentially owned by their husbands. In the Enfranchisement of

Radical Republican Dbq
Radical Republicans, who identified as the anti slavery and pro reconstruction wing of the
Republican party, were another key group driving transformations in the country during this time.
They had a bold agenda: to punish the south for the Civil War, ensure the complete elevation of
former slaves to the current standards of American society, and to prevent the Democrats from ever
gaining another foothold in the south. To do this, they set out to pass the Thirteenth, Fourteenth,
and Fifteenth Amendments. The amendments forbade slavery in the United States, guaranteed equal
protection under the law and citizenship to anyone born in the United States, and ensured the right
to vote for all men over the age of 21, respectively. They also supported the Freedman s Bureau,...

only exist in a system of hierarchy where they found themselves on to. After the war, they faced
economic ruin from the collapse of the plantation system, loss of livestock, and well as a federal

remained legal to continue their old lives, while others attempted to maintain control of their
confiscated lands through the practice of sharecropping. This system of labor contracts, where
blacks would still work the land, would have to contribute a portion of their harvest as a form of
tax. The regulations around such contracts were a legal form of slavery, binding workers to the
land, and setting unrealistic limits on a people who were said to be free. They also sought to

Drug detox is the process of eliminating the toxins accumulated in the body due to the intake of
drugs. Different kinds of drug detox treatment are available these days. Usually drug detox centers
give simple medication to the patient. This keeps the patient to get away from the withdrawal,
which is the physiological and mental readjustment occurring due to the discontinuation of the use
of drugor any other addictive substances. Withdrawal is considered as the first steps to drug detox.
The nature and severity of withdrawal mainly depends on the nature and level of dependency of

Hence drug detox centers have to ensure the complete purification from the drugs. The drug
residues usually remain in the fatty tissues of the body. These residues may be passed to the blood
many years after the individual has stopped the taking of drugs.
Drug residues also cause the desire for more drugs. Hence the complete elimination of drugs is very
important in the drugs detox. This is usually achieved through the regular exercises, sauna and
nutritional supplements. The residues of drugs such as LSD, phencyclidine, cocaine, manjuana and
diazepam are mainly accumulated in the body. These compounds are usually found in long term
and hard core drug users.
The first step for a successful drug detox treatment program is to make the patient to understand
about the seriousness of the treatment. The patients need to prepare themselves to keep away from
the drugs. The selection of an ideal drug detox center is also important for the success of drugs
detox treatment. Since drug detox treatment causes withdrawal, patients need to have a highly
supportive environment for success of their cleansing

Racial Barriers In Baseball
Introduction Over the first few decades after the breaking of the racial barrier in baseball by
Jackie Robinson the number of African American in professional baseball stayed on a rise,
unfortunately the numbers over the most recent decades have been going the opposite direction.
The color barrier was broken in Major League Baseball(MLB) by Robinson on April 15, 1947 when
he was called to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson broke way for African Americans in
baseballand they took advantage of it as the number increased every year after. The purpose of
this study is to find out why the percentage of African Americans playing in the MLB has been
on a steady decline the past few decades. This percentage is dropping every year and there does
not seem to be much of a change in the future. While the numbers of African American
professionals are much higher in football and basketball and not at risk of dropping soon, what
is it that is making baseballs number slowly diminish. In this research I will examine numbers
that have been put together and analyze interviews that were performed with some professionals
as well as highly accredited sports journalist. Although I will focus on professional baseball I
will also provide some insight on youth baseball to see what the future may hold as far as the
possibility of another increase in the percentage of African Americans in the pros. As the years
gone on there has also been an increase in latin baseball players throughout professional baseball,
as well as a decrease in whites. Some questions regarding the topic are what is causing the decline
in the percentage? What initiative is being taken by Major League Baseball to help try to increase
the percentages? What is significant about baseball compared to other sports (football, basketball)
that makes them different and less attractive to African American youth?
Literature Review In all articles read all journalist mentions the same thing. One major contributor
to the decline in African Americans in baseball is because of the cost to be good. Most of the
highly talented players now come from travel ball and not your stand park rec. league. To compete
at the highly level of travel ball has the potential to be

Essay about Edward Witten s Work Led to a Revolution
Witten was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Lorraine (Wollach) Witten and Louis
Witten, a theoretical physicist specializing in gravitation and general relativity.[3]
Witten attended the Park School of Baltimore (class of 68), and received his Bachelor of Arts
with a major in history and minor in linguistics from Brandeis University in 1971. He published
articles in The New Republic and The Nation. In 1968, Witten published an article in The Nation
arguing that the New Left had no strategy.[4] He worked briefly for George McGovern s
presidential campaign. McGovern lost the 1972 election in a landslide to Richard Nixon.

In the late 1980s, Witten coined the term topological quantum field theory for a certain type of
physical theory in which the expectation values of observable quantities encode information about
the topology of spacetime.[5] In particular, Witten realized that a physical theory now called Chern
Simons theory could provide a framework for understanding the mathematical theory of knots and 3
manifolds.[6] Although Witten s work was based on the mathematically ill defined notion of a
Feynman path integral and was therefore not mathematically rigorous, mathematicians were able to
systematically develop Witten s ideas, leading to the theory of Reshetikhin Turaev invariants.[7]
Another result for which Witten was awarded the Fields Medal was his (nonrigorous) proof in
1981 of the positive energy theorem in general relativity.[8] This theorem asserts that (under
appropriate assumptions) the total energy of a gravitating system is always positive and can be
zero only if the geometry of spacetime is that of flat Minkowski space. It establishes Minkowski
space as a stable ground state of the gravitational field. While the original proof of this result due to
Richard Schoen and Shing Tung Yau used variational methods,[9][10] Witten s proof used ideas
from supergravity theory to simplify the argument.

Michelle Obama Leadership Model
Leadership is a skill that one is not born with, but is acquired through life experiences and
interactions. Michelle Obama perseverance to attain a higher education, a concept foreign in her

that once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to
accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace

her role of First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to

for the Chicago office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active
and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle
influences people through her own success. Having attended Harvard Law, becoming a top attorney
and later the first African American First Lady, she has influenced youths across the nation to
believe that anything is possible, so long as they have faith. In accordance to the Leadership
Theories, Michelle Obamacan be categorized under the Authentic Leadership Approach; for these

Rhetorical Analysis Of Heroes By Tim O Brien
In Tim O Brien s Heroes, an eloquent speech delivered when he received an accolade, he tells a
story about a man named Elroy Birdall, the caretaker of some old yellow cabins along the Rainy
River, who took care of him for six days in the summer of 1968, during the Vietnam War. As he
gives his speech, he states that Elroy was a hero; more of a hero than the all stars. Due to his
elaboration, we can see that his message of heroism is that superior heroes are often unspoken, and
he does this with figurative language and compare contrast techniques. Throughout the speech, O

He does this to argue that our average people can be more heroic than eminent baseball players

himself. He says that Elroy was brave for making his own choices, instead running from them, like
he did, by saying that Elroy was a hero, while he wasn t for going to Vietnam(278). He shares the
negative adjectives of the baseball player and of himself, a top writer, to prove that Elroy is a
hero, and not all heroes need to we well known. In addition to this, he compares Elroy with
Abraham Lincoln s quote of you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people
some of the time, but you can t fool all of the people all of the time (277). O Brien argues that
this quote by Lincoln did not apply to Elroy by saying that there should have been an extra clause
in the statement to account for Elroy, because Elroy hardly ever got fooled (277). While Elroy does
not fit the stereotype of the big, strong, muscular hero, he fits another

Designing A Product, An Advertiser
When trying to sell a product, an advertiser must think of their target audience. For Covergirl,
their audience is mainly women but it is for makeup enthusiast. Covergirl always tailors their
advertisements in the same way. There is always a woman, normally it is just her head and her
shoulders sometimes. She is posed very dramatically and she is always flawless with a clear
complexion, contoured skin, full pink lips, bright eyes and perfectly styled hair. There is always a
bold element or something that grabs your attention in a Covergirl advertisements. Most of them
also have a theme for example, the blossom mascaraad that features Katy Perry has a theme of
flowers with light pink flowers covering the page or the volume mascara ad... Show more content

The text underneath the picture describes the product and how it is better than the competition.
This text talks about how the mascara is just as good if not better than false lashes. The colors
used are very contrasting. The background is very light and Drew Barrymore is portrayed as pale
and the only other color use is yellow. Black is used and is on her fishnet gloves and is very
contrasting to the smooth texture and colors.
In this ad specifically, there is a lot of contrasting images. The black fishnet gloves in contrast to
the smooth, glossy, silk fabric and the flawless face of Drew Barrymore. The dark color is only on
the black gloves draws attention to the gloves. However, your attention then moves to the next
darkest things, her eyes. They are effectively using the contrasting textures and colors to draw your
attention to her eyelashes. Another effective fact is that Covergirl uses Drew Barrymore as a
model, her familiar face plays on pathos and makes the audience trust the advertisement.
This image is a Covergirl ad advertising nylon mascara, using Drew Barrymore as a spokesperson
for this product. This ad appeared in a magazine and a similar one aired on television. This ad was

Character Analysis Of Andrew In Fly Away Home By Eve Bunting
Hopefull. That describes Andrew in Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting. Andrew lives in a airport.
He want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home.
Though in a tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He
is so young yet he is still hopeful.
How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a
positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t
have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the
airport it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house.
Andrew tries to stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more
positive than most people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is
positive is when he saw the bird get stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don
t! You can get out. This part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird
to continue trying, that the bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just
talking to himself because he has no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not
encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not understand what Andrew really
wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example on how Andrew is positive
is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened and when the bird
left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he said this he
almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him. But he then
tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be positive.
Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an
airport and helps his dad to get out. One example is he can t get noticed by other people, they stay
among the crowds change airlines and sleep sitting up. Even though Andrew is just a kid he doesn t
complain about all the walking and trying not to get noticed. This is helpful

Arguments Against Neoliberalism
Response:
As will be discussed in this response, there is sufficient evidence to prove that neoliberal
assumptions, language and policy prescriptions have in theory aimed to achieve social justice but
in reality only serves to entrench power and privilege to those already advantaged.
Neoliberalism is a blanket term that encompasses ideology, philosophy and strategy. (Penna O
Brien, 2012; Roy et al, 2006; Miraftab et al, 2015). It is a term that is multifaceted and so one
plain definition could not give it justice. Possibly the way to describe it is to understand the main
assumptions under Neoliberalism. Penna O Brien (2008) argue the main assumptions underpinning
Neoliberalism all have a shared central theme, being the market as the pivotal ... Show more content

Over the last 30 years these provisions have been taken away leaving us with out current
predicament. (Andrews, 2017). By late 1980s Hawke and Keating had implemented a series of
neoliberal policies, beginning with the deregulation of the labour market and finishing with the
privatisation of assets such as, Qantas and the Commonwealth Bank.. The Howard government
continued the trend by attacking wages through unions, and liquidated over $100bn worth of
public assets. (Stinson, 2014). Neoliberalism can still be seen in the present climate with our
existing (or lack there of) policies towards climate change. Our current party in office pledges to
cut company tax, crackdown on welfare and encourage more open markets, which sound very
indicative of neoliberalism. (Bradley,

Native Americans During The 19th Century
For hundreds of years Native Americans inhabited North America. When Europeans came to the
New World they did not understand these indigenous people. For a long time these natives were
seen as savages who had backwards traditions. After the American Revolution, Americans were
pushing to try to expand their territory. They wanted to expand westward towards the Pacific
Ocean, to get closer to China. Native Americans we victims of changing times in America. With
Europeans and then Americans aggressively pushing west the Natives could not keep up with
technologies of the whites, they were also a victim to the white mans epidemics, horse and the
environment. All of these factors caused the natives to be victims of westward expansion in
America. Native Americans play a large role in Western history of the United Statesbut the power
struggle that they faced with white peopleforever changed their destiny. One agent of change that
led the natives to be victims was disease. In the early 16th century, the natives did not have any of
the immunities that the Europeans developed over the course of the last 5000 10,000 years.
Disease hit the natives like a brick wall. Smallpox was the most contagious disease of all that hit
tribes like the ones in the plains and Missouri Valley. This disease spread through the region from
the northern plains to the Red River in the 1770s. Others that tore through the native populations
were Measles, cholera, malaria, and venereal diseases. These

The Keirsey Temperament Sorter
Every person has a personality that is so complex that it cannot be described completely and
accurately just through personality tests. My personality may seem a bit spontaneous at times,
but it is usually stable. I see myself as an angry person who just wants things to work out in the
end. I was characterized as a Guardian by the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, and I agree with this
result. Although it may seem as if I am detached or uninterested, in the end I always want to
make sure everyone is happy. A lot of my friends and some of my siblings have told me that I act
to much like their mom, since I tend to get over protective of those around me. But in order to
appear cool and unaffected, I tend to pretend that I do not care for others. It

The Epidemic Of The Plague
During the time of 1346 through 1353 a mysterious illness had swept through Asia and Europe.
This illness killed about 25 million people over the 13 years it was prominent. This deadly illness
was then identified as the plague. A pandemic that swept through Europe but originated in China. It
was a rodent disease where an infected flea, with the bacteria Yersinia Pestis, would bite the rodent
making it ill. The rodent population was starting to die off, due to the plague, resulting in mass
quantities of fleas. Since Humans and rats were in such close quarters, and there were fewer
rodents around, the flea would jump to human. The way the plague spread was by zoonosis, this is
where a disease is transmitted from animal to Human. The plague... Show more content on

The last form of plague was the pneumonic plague which infected lungs and cause pneumonia.
This was the most deadly form of the plague and would kill the human in one to three days. All
three forms of the plague originated from fleas but the severity of the plague varied.
People were dying for the plague in such short times the families of the deceased did not know
what to do with the large quantities of bodies. They started digging mass graves. Unfortunately
back when the plague was happening, documentation of the mass grave sites was not on the top
of the people s priority list. Now we are looking at the mass graves and trying to analyze what
went on during that time of distress. Now archaeologists are looking at the DNA of skeletons in
the mass graves. They are testing protein strands from the skeletons to see if there is a positive
match if the plague bacteria, Yersinia Pestis.
The mass graves that archeologists are looking at are located in northern Europe, central Europe
and southern Europe. Archeologists analyzed the DNA of skeletons from the mass grave sites to
skeletons of the same place but a different time period. The findings revealed that the plague may
have entered in two waves. Dwight and Wood (2008) compared and skeletons from a Danish town
and compared the skeletons to ones that were buried in mass graves in England. The two analyzed

Theranos Trade Secret
Theranos is a medical laboratory and technology firm started in Palo Alto by Stanford dropout
Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes, with the aid of the numerous scientists and engineers employed at
Theranos, has been diligently working on innovative ways to collect and analyze blood samples.
The company claims that their devices use smaller blood samples, often taken from less painful
points on the body (palm of the hand versus heavily nerved fingertips). Also, Theranos markets
quick, real time results that can indicate the effectiveness of a patient s medication dose. Despite its
growth over the last 13 years, Theranos has been shrouded in mystery. When starting up the

Pride In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
In the poem Rime of the Ancient Mariner, by Coleridge, there are many different views and ideas
going on through the whole thing. It s very interesting you can tell and see in Coleridge s writing
where and when he was on an opium induced high. His writing gives you a religious since but then
will change completely and you get this other side of things. He is talking about crazy sea creatures
and skeleton ships and how our lives are just thrown up to chance. But once they are decided this
mariner has to go about repenting for what he has done and helping others not make the same
mistake. When the mariner goes about telling these young men about his mistake and warning them
about all of the worldly things he teaches three principals: Pride, Suffering, and Transformation....

God and the mariner crucifies God which brings the whole crew punishment. This is what leads
the mariner to his long repentance and punishment. The crew dies and he is left by himself to sit in

Brisket Persuasive Speech
With all other foods, there s a right way and a wrong way. With brisket, there s only my way.
Psychotherapist and top brisket maker Phyllis Cohen. Those are some good words to sum up
brisket, because everyone thinks the way do it is the way. In my family smoking is a tradition,
we ve been doing it for about 5 years me and my dad but we do have a little history in it. We use
a great blend of savory spice to make the brisket have the best flavor it can possibly have. But the
most important start to the whole process is selecting the right brisket. A good brisket should
have a nice fat cap in the top, and should have a very good marble to the meat. If not your brisket
will be as dry as a shoes leather. After selecting the most prime brisket it s time to get down to my
favorite part. It s prep time, this is even more key than selecting the brisket. What you need to do
now is take the fat cap that is about ВЅ inch thick and cut that down to roughly Вј to and в…› inch.
But this is all dependent on your liking and what you think. Now that you have trimmed up the fat
cap you need to move on the the deckle. The deckle is a thick layer of fat that runs between the
point and the flat. This will not render with a little trimming up, and... Show more content on

powder, paprika, and other secret spices. Generously apply but then rub the access seasoning off
and allow brisket to chill for 1 hour to let the meat rest. Then before letting it rest inject with beef
broth. After that you are ready to select your wood. For beef a nice tight bark hickory and maybe

Analysis of Goodwill Impairments and
Their Effects on Financial Statements
The impairment only accounting model for goodwill was initially brought to the table in 2004, to
replace the previous amortization based model. Over the years, research supported the idea that
impairment charges improved the fundamental economic attributes of goodwill than systematic
amortization charges. Research also revealed that such annual changes had minor information value
to users. According to KPMG (2014), this was the key reason why the US Financial Accounting
Standards Board (FASB) replaced straight line amortization of goodwill with this model that was
based exclusively on impairment testing (p. 4). The FASB argued that this approach provides...

After the value is determined, if the goodwill s fair value is less than the carrying value, the
goodwill is considered impaired and must be charged off. Essentially, the charge off reduces the
value of goodwill to market value, reflecting a mark to market charge.
Essentially, goodwill is the value of an asset that is considered intangible but has a quantifiable
prudent value in a business (Boundless, 2014). An example of goodwill could be the reputation a
firm has with its client. It is important to remember that although goodwill is technically an
intangible asset, it typically is listed separately on a business balance sheet.
Goodwill impairments under SFAS 142, has been the subject of many controversies. Opponents
worry that specific aspects of the standard are complicated and require judgment (Boundless,
2014). Therefore, a goodwill impairment charge has the ability to increase the uncertainty of the
analysts forecasting. Goodwill is recorded at the time of a business combination by an acquiring
entity, and is defined as the excess of the consideration transferred plus te fair value of any non
controlling interest in the acquire at the acquisition date over the fair values of the identifiable net
assets acquired (FASB, 2007). Prior to the SFAS 141 and SFAS 142, APB Opinion No.17 regulated
accounting for goodwill (Chen, Krishnan,

Ophiuchus Research Paper
My favorite constellation is the Ophiuchus (also known by its Latin name Serpentarius). It lies in
the northern sky and is, in fact, the 11th largest constellation. It belongs to the Hercules family of
constellation and contains seven Messier objects and a number of notable stars. It is my favorite
because of the myth associated with it, which I learned during a camping trip from a classmate
who wanted to explore the outer space and knew much about the stars. Years later, that campfire
story is one of my most vivid memories.
Translated from Greek, Ophiuchus means snake bearer (from the root ПЊП†О№П‚ [ophis] snake )

  • 2. Claude Mckay America America by Claude Mckay is a poem and also a sonnet. Most sonnets in the time of Williams Shakespeare were always about a person feelings towards something and that s exactly what he did. He wrote about the feelings he has towards America. According to a biography I read about Claude Mckay, he was a Jamaican who immigrated to the United States. He was a poet and was inspired to write several poems in New York. It started off stating, Although she feeds me bread of bitterness, And sinks into my throat her tiger s tooth. He mentions how America is a Her, in other words, comparing America to a woman like a motherly figure. Those first two stances meant disgust towards America and also expresses his dependence on the country as well. Throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Green Champion Paper Example Jakob Hanlon 113886222 Principles of Sustainability Green Champion Paper Brewing of a Sustainable Idea In the current day and age, environmental issues are beginning to be considered more frequently in business decision and in governmental policy. The current threat of global warming, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and extinction of species highlight the consequences of not being environmentally aware. Even the smallest green decisions like choosing to car pool or to recycle can be decisions that have a huge impact that positively effects the environment. These decisions can have far reaching implications. For instance, someone who witnesses these green decisions may be inspired to make environmentally conscious decisions as well. Much in the same way people could be inspired, businesses can be inspired as well. Creating a sustainability initiative in a business can be extremely positive and rewarding. For this reason, I think it is vital that the local beer brewing company, COOP Ale Works, adopt a sustainability program. Many breweries have adopt sustainable framework, two such examples are New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada. I believe by implementing some of these ideals into their brewing process COOP can inspire other businesses to become more sustainable. In this paper I will mention the current problems with the brewing process, highlight the changes that can be made based off of current implementation at breweries, and present a four point plan to ... • 4. Piaget s Stages Of Moral Development Adolescence is the transition between childhood and adulthood (Berk, 2014, p. 361). During adolescence, children and teenagers begin to form their identity, establishing who they are based on their values and goals (Berk, 2014, p. 361). Adolescence typically begins with puberty and is followed by changes in motor and cognitive development (Berk, 2014, p. 362). During adolescence, teenagers often experience Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development, Erikson s Theory of Development, and Kohlberg s 3 Levels of Moral Development. These theories and ideas have helped form the basis of normal adolescent development. Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development describes how the use of more advanced and abstract thinking occurs in a sequence for all children,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 382). Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development include the sensorimotor stage, the preoperational stage, the concrete operational stage, and the formal operational stage (Gross, 2016). According to Piaget, people enter the formal operational stage at the age of 11, meaning they begin to develop the capacity to think abstractly, scientifically, and systematically (Berk, 2014, p. 382). Two major features of the formal operational stage include hypothetico deductive reasoning and propositional thought. Hypothetico deductive reasoning is similar to the scientific method in the sense that adolescents, when faced with a problem, form a hypothesis and test it using variables that they believe might affect the outcome of the problem (Berk, 2014, p. 382). They are able to separate or combine variables in a way that allows them to solve their problems in the real world (Berk, 2014, p. 382). Propositional thought, however, is an adolescent s ability to determine the logic of a statement without referring to or re creating real world circumstances (Berk, 2014, 383). In addition to being able to think more scientifically and systematically, adolescents begin to learn how to interpret and observe others (Oswalt, 2010). They learn to observe other people s behavior, comments, and expressions and use the information to make logical guesses as to what other people are thinking, feeling, or needing (Oswalt, 2010). Piaget s Stages of Cognitive Development, in addition to an adolescent s ability to learn how to interpret and observe others, are shown in the movie High School Musical. The first time Troy uses his ability to interpret and observe others is when Gabriella decides to audition for the school musical. Troy recognizes that this was important to Gabriella, which is why he offers to be her partner for the audition. Troy and Gabriella later use Piaget s stage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Professional Behavior In Nursing Professional behavior is defined as the way a person acts towards others in a professional setting. As a nurse this could be mean the way you respond or act towards patients, supervisors, and co workers. The way nurse s respond is important because it can affect the patient and others around them. Nurse s are held to a higher standard when it comes to being trustworthy and professional. They are expected to hold values of Beneficence, nonmaleficence, and autonomy. Black mentioned the definition of beneficence is determining what is good or best for the patient. Autonomy is when the individual has the right to make their own decisions in health care. Black (2014) defined nonmaleficence as the duty to not put the patient in harm. To behave in a professional way can allow the nurseto create a therapeutic relationship with the patient. Allowing the patient to trust that the nurse s response is in the best interest and respect of the patient (NCSBN). By having the best interest in the patient s outcome, the nurse would abstain from attaining personal gain at the patient s expense. The space between the patient s vulnerability and the nurse s power is where professional boundaries are met (NCSBN). A hypothetical situation that could easily break professional boundaries without intent would be favoritism towards a patient. In health care facilities nurseswill treat patients for long term care and become very close with their patients. Nurse s will find themselves favoring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Reflection Of Human Nature, By Seamus Heaney Firstly, Heaney uses the structure of the poem to tell us about human nature. For example, the slow, familiar rhythm of the iambic pentameter creates a reflective tone where the voice in the poem looks back at the lessons learnt in the past. This shows how we glamorize the past even our bad experience so we can learn from them. The two uneven stanzas with gently half rhyming couplets add a softness and a musical lilt without imposing too much rigidity. This also reflects the romantic memory and romanticised view of nature that we apply on our past experience however gruesome. Plus, by using lists and multiple points of enjambment Heaney give the poem a childlike and excited tone. This conveys the image not only of children and their views on the world but how we look into the past and become children again recalling the events that faced our young selves. Finally the long first stanza filled with the collection of the good, ripe fruit is destroyed quickly from the short, second stanza full of rot and decay. I believe that this suggest that however much we we gather and hoard our wealth will always deteriorate, often though death. This emphasise how horrible the human nature of hoarding is, as it will always end in hardship. Heaney also describes human nature though caesuras which are scattered throughout the poem. For example,a caesura at the end of lust for picking makes the reader linger on the word picking , stressing the action. This conveys the message that It is not the blackberries but the activity that they lust after. This first caesura of joy and happiness is then juxtaposed by the next cesura Like a plate of eyes. . This is a disconcerting image that matches the earlier images of flesh and clots. It is also as if they are staring at him accusing him of hoarding all the fruit that he won t be able to eat, plus the fact that he wrote it shows he is remorseful for his greed. The contrast between these two caesuras suggests the message that it is human nature that our greed will always take over the joy of the activity. The seven deadly sins are scattered throughout the poem and helps Heaney describe human nature. Firstly, Heaney say that after we pick the fruit we hoarded them in the barn. ... • 7. Compare And Contrast Mental Health Counseling When considering therapy, mental health counseling is typically what most people think of regarding the word. However, mental health counseling has a unique approach that brings an extensive definition to the meaning of care CITATION Smi95 l 1033 (Smith Robinson, 1995). Mental health counselors (MHC) have a board understanding and responses that contributes to the development of the counseling profession. Most mental healthcounselors assist individuals how to cope during difficult life events such as relationship issues and the death of a loved one, while others help manage mental disorder/illness like depression or bipolar disorders. Throughout chronicle of events regarding counseling, many individuals perceived the term counseling in the wrong manner. People believed that counseling was used as a way of guidance rather than a person who listens and help resolve issues. Counseling was not properly introduced until the late 1890s, where it was considered less of assistance and more of a form of advice. It was during the Industrial Revolution, when the concern to improve the lives of the citizens involved increased the need of counseling. During this period, large array of individuals such as teachers and social reformers focused on educating the younger generations about the world around them CITATION Han12 l 1033 (Hanson, 2012). Within his description of Holcomb, Kansas, the town is perceived as quiet and lonesome, where nothing out of the ordinary occurs. Mandatory Arrests For Domestic Violence Running head: MANDATORY ARRESTS1 MANDATORY ARRESTS8 Mandatory Arrests for Domestic Violence Do More Harm than Good Colby Heywood University of Massachusetts Lowell Mandatory Arrests for Domestic Violence Do More Harm than Good Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a common problem. As a result, the criminal justice adapted to demands, especially from feminists, who bemoaned the poor response of police, and in turn, the justice system by instituting mandatory arrests. However, mandatory arrests have proven that just like protection or restraining orders, they are not effective in deterring domestic violence (Davis, 2008). Similarly, the arrests do not have a substantial effect on recidivism and create undue procedural complications for the criminal system (Zelcer, 2014). On the contrary, proponents of the approach, argue that it has a deterrent effect on the perpetrators and that it can even protect offer immediate protection for the victims (Clark, 2010). Nonetheless, using statistical evidence and arguments from scholarly sources, this position paper will expose the inefficiencies and constitutional inconsistencies that make mandatory arrests harmful for the batterer, victim, and the criminal justice system. • 14. Cultural Values In Sports Sports are an essential aspect of American society; they are indispensable when it comes to their impact in many public areas, including economics and the mass media. Sport coincides with community values and political agencies, as it attempts to define the morals and ethics attributed not only to athletes, but the totality of society. Fans of spectator sports find a reaffirmation of key societal values through sports, as they give meaning to their own lives. By becoming fans, spectators engage in certain kinds of pleasures, fulfilling their own desires... writes Brummett (21). The world of sports allows us the opportunity to gain vital insight into the sensitive issues of racism, sexism, and classism, but the implications of the attention we give them are alarming. Delaney writes, to ignore sports is to ignore a significant aspect of any society and its culture (7), continuing to note, sport is the opiate of the masses, because we are in the age of the sport consumer, which is dissimilar to the age of the sport spectator (14). By placing a value on a specific athlete, you are not only defining that athlete based on their attributes, you are giving them a specific worth which ultimately translates into the worth of that specific sport, which is why we unjustly deem certain sports more imperative than others. The integration of sports into American culture is something that we, as both fans and consumers, rely on to provide us with not only a means of entertainment, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through a series of activities, students attentions are kept so that the whole learning goes toward the direction of teaching principles. Second, game teaching is more difficult to organize in the classroom because of students lacking autonomy, and the classroom will become confusing. All of these should be taken into full consideration while designing class activities. Usually there are five principles that should be noticed(Chen Shuting,2008). 3.1 Objective principle English classroom games should have a clear purpose. While designing a game, teachers must be very clear about the purpose of the game is to let students master something. The objective of the game is not only to activate atmosphere to make students feel at ease, but also allow them to obtain knowledge, making the game serve the purpose of language training, pronunciation correcting, grammar consolidating. The design should be combined with teaching purpose of the game, and the game s designing and carrying out have to stick to the teaching content. Thus, the design of the game must run through the theme, lest students only remember the game but not knowing what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Admittedly, form, length and literary devices are not requisite to a poem, as many fine free verse poems illustrate, but this poem does not compensate for its lack of structure by enhancing its other aspects. In Mary Oliver s poem Morning, there are no devices aside from alliteration, yet Oliver s poem is much more complex and interesting for other reasons. The imagery is more artistic, the words more creative, the syntax more fluid. Oliver describes the linoleum, the wild words, and the curvaceous response of the lightly leaping cat. The only adjectives Williams uses, delicious, sweet, and cold, are so common as to have been rendered banal in every reader s mind. Rather than making the ordinary appear extraordinary through the clarity and discreteness of his imagery, as the Encyclopaedia Britannica asserts, Williams succeeds only in making the ordinary appear well, ordinary. In fact, the whole poem is rather dull. There is no intrigue, no unusual phrase which catches the attention, no unexpected yet perfect images such as Emily Dickinson s idea of quartz contentment in her poem After great pain, a formal feeling comes . Gandhi s extreme methods of going on hunger strikes aren t widely practiced today and could lead to starvation or death. Orwell even mentioned it in his book It is difficult to see how Gandhi s methods could be applied in a country where opponents of the regime disappear in the middle of the night and are never heard of again (Orwell, 1949). On the other hand, King s passive methods are more accepted and the four steps to nonviolent campaigns are still being used today by activists. King and Gandhi both had visions of the good life they wanted for themselves and others around them. King wanted the black community to be treated fairly and have equal rights as the whites. Both Boyle and Descartes advocate the distinction between both primary and secondary qualities. It should be noted that Boyle was influenced by Descartes , thus Boyle s ideas were built from Descartes theories. In one case, Descartes proposes the idea that there is not a possibility of a void, but Boyle experimented with this idea and concluded that there could be a vacuum. This well founded plan implanted the government with three branches (executive, judicial and legislative), in addition to a checks balances system that certified no particular branch would have more power over another. While both documents were created in hopes of unifying our states, they have several dissimilarities and correlations. The biggest disconnection being that the Articles gave power to states respectively with very little government dominance, whereas the Constitution granted prime authority to the central government. Additionally, the Articles allowed one Congress to be given power, alike the Constitution, yet not limited to. The Constitution allowed one power given Congress, the Senate and the House of Representatives. In the process of ratifying both documents, consent was necessary. The color barrier was broken in Major League Baseball(MLB) by Robinson on April 15, 1947 when he was called to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson broke way for African Americans in baseballand they took advantage of it as the number increased every year after. The purpose of this study is to find out why the percentage of African Americans playing in the MLB has been on a steady decline the past few decades. This percentage is dropping every year and there does not seem to be much of a change in the future. While the numbers of African American professionals are much higher in football and basketball and not at risk of dropping soon, what is it that is making baseballs number slowly diminish. In this research I will examine numbers that have been put together and analyze interviews that were performed with some professionals as well as highly accredited sports journalist. Although I will focus on professional baseball I will also provide some insight on youth baseball to see what the future may hold as far as the possibility of another increase in the percentage of African Americans in the pros. As the years gone on there has also been an increase in latin baseball players throughout professional baseball, as well as a decrease in whites. Some questions regarding the topic are what is causing the decline in the percentage? What initiative is being taken by Major League Baseball to help try to increase the percentages? What is significant about baseball compared to other sports (football, basketball) that makes them different and less attractive to African American youth? Literature Review In all articles read all journalist mentions the same thing. One major contributor to the decline in African Americans in baseball is because of the cost to be good. Most of the highly talented players now come from travel ball and not your stand park rec. league. To compete at the highly level of travel ball has the potential to be ... He is the son of Lorraine (Wollach) Witten and Louis Witten, a theoretical physicist specializing in gravitation and general relativity.[3] Witten attended the Park School of Baltimore (class of 68), and received his Bachelor of Arts with a major in history and minor in linguistics from Brandeis University in 1971. He published articles in The New Republic and The Nation. In 1968, Witten published an article in The Nation arguing that the New Left had no strategy.[4] He worked briefly for George McGovern s presidential campaign. In the late 1980s, Witten coined the term topological quantum field theory for a certain type of physical theory in which the expectation values of observable quantities encode information about the topology of spacetime.[5] In particular, Witten realized that a physical theory now called Chern Simons theory could provide a framework for understanding the mathematical theory of knots and 3 manifolds.[6] Although Witten s work was based on the mathematically ill defined notion of a Feynman path integral and was therefore not mathematically rigorous, mathematicians were able to systematically develop Witten s ideas, leading to the theory of Reshetikhin Turaev invariants.[7] Another result for which Witten was awarded the Fields Medal was his (nonrigorous) proof in 1981 of the positive energy theorem in general relativity.[8] This theorem asserts that (under appropriate assumptions) the total energy of a gravitating system is always positive and can be zero only if the geometry of spacetime is that of flat Minkowski space. It establishes Minkowski space as a stable ground state of the gravitational field. While the original proof of this result due to Richard Schoen and Shing Tung Yau used variational methods,[9][10] Witten s proof used ideas from supergravity theory to simplify the argument. Once Navidson realizes the interior of the house was greater than the exterior the first person he decides to call was his brother Tom, who he had not spoken to in eight years, he decides to call him since he works in building homes he should have an explanation on how this occurred. For instance, when Navidson decided to enter the hallway and detects that nothing is there but all of a sudden he turns and there is another pathway. Overall, the house being highlighted in blue throughout the book could be because it symbolizes the darkness of not knowing what will occur next, it is like trying to figure out a mystery. As a leader, it is imperative that once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace setter, innovative and charismatic leader because through the various projects she undertook as her role of First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to be active in one s own community. For example, this can be seen in her role as Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle influences people through her own success. Rhetorical Analysis Of Heroes By Tim O Brien In Tim O Brien s Heroes, an eloquent speech delivered when he received an accolade, he tells a story about a man named Elroy Birdall, the caretaker of some old yellow cabins along the Rainy River, who took care of him for six days in the summer of 1968, during the Vietnam War. As he gives his speech, he states that Elroy was a hero; more of a hero than the all stars. Due to his elaboration, we can see that his message of heroism is that superior heroes are often unspoken, and he does this with figurative language and compare contrast techniques. He does this to argue that our average people can be more heroic than eminent baseball players and celebrity writers. He redefines bravery when he makes the comparison between Elroy and himself. He says that Elroy was brave for making his own choices, instead running from them, like he did, by saying that Elroy was a hero, while he wasn t for going to Vietnam(278). He shares the negative adjectives of the baseball player and of himself, a top writer, to prove that Elroy is a hero, and not all heroes need to we well known. In addition to this, he compares Elroy with Abraham Lincoln s quote of you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can t fool all of the people all of the time (277). O Brien argues that this quote by Lincoln did not apply to Elroy by saying that there should have been an extra clause in the statement to account for Elroy, because Elroy hardly ever got fooled (277). He want the live a normal life but he can t because he s stuck in an airport without a home. Though in a tough situation he still manages to keep a positive attitude, and he also is helpful. He is so young yet he is still hopeful. How would you react living in an airport since you were young, well Andrew manages to keep a positive attitude. In the story Andrew said My dad and I live in the airport, that s because we don t have a home and the airport is better than the streets. This shows his attitude while living in the airport it s tough but he does not want to show his dad that he truly wants to live in a house. Andrew tries to stay positive through the situation he s going through. But he is a lot more positive than most people would be in his predicament. Another example on how Andrew is positive is when he saw the bird get stuck in the airport, Don t stop trying! he told it silently. Don t! You can get out. This part is significant to the story by showing how he is encouraging the bird to continue trying, that the bird can get out. But this makes me wonder if maybe he was just talking to himself because he has no one to help him stay positive. His dad surely does not encourage him his dad likes it at the airport his dad does not understand what Andrew really wants, yet Andrew still fights and he still has hope. The last example on how Andrew is positive is when he said Then I remember the bird, It took awhile but a door opened and when the bird left, when it flew free, I knew it was singing. It is important to notice that before he said this he almost lost hope, he got mad at the people around him because they had more than him. But he then tried to focus on something positive this shows that he truly wants to have hope and be positive. Many people face challenges all the time. But the character Andrew in fly away home lives in an airport and helps his dad to get out. After the value is determined, if the goodwill s fair value is less than the carrying value, the goodwill is considered impaired and must be charged off. Essentially, the charge off reduces the value of goodwill to market value, reflecting a mark to market charge. Essentially, goodwill is the value of an asset that is considered intangible but has a quantifiable prudent value in a business (Boundless, 2014). An example of goodwill could be the reputation a firm has with its client. It is important to remember that although goodwill is technically an intangible asset, it typically is listed separately on a business balance sheet. Goodwill impairments under SFAS 142, has been the subject of many controversies. Opponents worry that specific aspects of the standard are complicated and require judgment (Boundless, 2014).
