Contemporary Issues Of The Hotel Industry Essay
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN THE HOTEL INDUSTRY Critique Article 2 Submitted By:
Tariq Tanveer Mudh Student ID 1000020230 Assumption 1 The performance of new industry
entrants can be effected by their pre entry experience. Evidence The author has provided the
evidence in the form of Ganco and Agarwal, 2009 to support this assumption. It is essential for
every new firm to have particular experience in specific field which help them to survive and
compete with other rivalry in the market. Challenge I agree with above mentioned assertion by
the author. Prior knowledge and experience of any specific field is very important to determine
the performance of any organization. New entrants who carry prior experience having a greater
chance to survive in the market. Also, it helps to differentiate one from another and help to
establish in the market. It also provides ability to face the market situation in the terms of
technological and production change (Shane, 2013). Assumption 2 Potential consumers trust on an
organisation s brand as an indicator of its product quality. Evidence To support this assertion
author has given the evidence of Erdem and Swait, 2006. Challenge I agree with the author as
every consumer have their own perception about brand because it give a feel to the customers
about the quality it provide in the term of the services and products. Now a days, customers are
very quality conscious and they want value to their money. So the logos and

Summary Of The Novel The Bungalow Mystery
The book The Bungalow Mystery is about a girl, Nancy Drew. Nancy is a detective and loves
solving mysteries. One day, Nancy and her friend Helen are on a boat ride, and they come across a
huge storm. Their boat sinks, and they almost drown when someone named Laura Pendleton comes
and rescues them. She then explains that her motherjust recently passed away, and she came here to
meet her new guardians. Her mother had said that they were nice, but when Lauramet them, they
seemed awfully rude. She had mentioned that her mother had left her a large inheritance, but her
guardians said that she was penniless. Something just seems off. Nancy s father, Carson Drew
was in the middle of this case, and he needed Nancy to go to some peoples houses and judge if
they robbed the bank. No one fits the description, but 2 people are on vacation, or so they
thought. A couple of days later Laura runs away, and ends up at Nancy s house, and she said that
she had over heard the Aborns saying that they were going to steal Laura s priceless jewelry
collection! Nancy goes to their house on the lake, and sees Mr. Aborn going into the woods with
a plate of food. Nancy follows him, and sees him go into a bungalow in the middle of the woods.
She then runs off before he came back out. Then she went home and decided she would go back
in the evening. Nancy told Hannah (her housekeeper) that she would be gone and to call the police
if she did not return within a couple of hours. Nancy gets to their lake

The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells Essays
The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells gives an account of a man s descent into madness as the result
of his scientific feat, invisibility. Griffin, the invisible man, first appears as a mysterious
stranger, bandaged and seeking shelter and recluse but progressively transforms into a lawless
individual with a proposition to initiate a reign of terror. The change in Griffin s character occurs
due to his invisibility and the power it provides because there is no one, on this view, who is iron
willed enough to maintain his morality and find the strength of purpose to keep his hands off what
does not belong to him, when he is able to take whatever he wants from the market stalls without
fear of being discovered, to enter houses and sleep with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The invisible man begins to feel limitless and superior to average man, he feels that an invisible
man is a man of power (Wells). Being invisible and the subsequent notion of invincibility causes
the invisible man to act as he pleases as his inhibitions disappear as the fear of being reprimanded
is removed. The absence of consequences strips away the good in Griffin s nature and fosters his
madness as he starts stealing from the markets and begins his spree of breaking into houses.
However, the invisibility that Griffin viewed as power ultimately is a poison as the invisible
man must sacrifice greatly for his for his power. The invisible man schemes grand dreams that
can be realized through his invisibility but discovers that no doubt invisibility made it possible to
get them, but it made it impossible to enjoy them when they are got (Wells 121). Because of his
invisibility, the invisible man finds himself ostracized, in a state of danger, and no longer able to
enjoy everyday customs like eating lunch at a restaurant. Griffin finds himself even unable to
celebrate his discovery with others with fear of that they might steal credit for his feat or that the
exposure might cause a rejection. Due to his invisible state, his grandest ambitions are trivialized
and frustrated by the very discovery that spurred those ambitions (Beiderwell). The anger, madness,
and mania that envelop the invisible man all stem from the abuse of his

The Effect Of Sleep On The Regulation Of Emotional...
Introduction The goal of this study was to investigate the role of sleep in the regulation of
emotional reactivity and mood, and in particular the role of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.
The research team led by Rosales Lagarde measured the impact of total sleep deprivation (TSD)
by evaluating subjective responses to frustration and aversive stimuli. It was found that coping
skills and emotional regulatory abilities were decreased along with decision making skills
following REM sleep disturbances. It was also found that the subjects that experienced
disturbances in REM sleep displayed a greater degree of impulsiveness when faced with a risky
decision and favored utilitarian judgments. The data was collected using functional magnetic
resonance imaging (fMRI) imaging of the brain during the various stages of the experiment, and
during the administration of the Emotional Reactivity Task. It was found that there is a greater
and longer lasting activation of the amygdala while viewing negative stimuli, and specifically
following TSD. This study was based on previous research that suggests that REM sleep plays a
significant role in emotional regulation, as brain areas associated with emotion are specifically
activated during REM sleep cycles. These include the amygdaloid complex, medial and orbital
frontal cortices, and posterior association areas. Background Other related studies have evaluated
the effect of REM sleep in animals and emotional reactivity. It has been found

The Fourth Amendment And The 4th Amendment
A persons property is often what they take pride in, which makes it easy to see why the saying a
mans home is his castle is so popular and widely understood. So when the gates of their castle get
knocked down and their treasures taken; the king of the castle is left with nothing to hold as his
own. Americans right to be secure is the moat surrounding their castle, it guarantees Americans
protection against unreasonable search and seizure. The right to be secure is guaranteed in the 4th
amendment of the Bill of Rights, which is a section of the U.S. Constitution listing a citizens
guaranteed rights. The U.S. Constitution was written in 1787 but lacked the support required to be
ratified; as it needed support from 9 of the 13 states prior to its ratification. The constitution received
the backing of its 9th state after adding the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. The addition of a Bill
of Rights was required for the support of many states as one of the largest concerns the states had
with the Constitution was that the Government would have too much power and control over
citizens. So the addition of a Bill or Rights stating what the Government may or may not do as well
as guaranteeing the freedoms and rights of citizens helped end the states concerns. The support
after the addition of the Bill of Rights led to the Constitutions ratification on March 4th, 1789. As
stated by the Legal Information Institute; the Fourth Amendment guarantees [t]he right of the

I would like to begin with the quote Knowing others is wisdom, mastering yourself is
Enlightenment . In this course I have discovered more about myself all through the class
formally as well as informally. To my surprise few of the Management skills I was performing in
my day to day life in a corporate environment without knowing it. And then there are some brand

life on everyday basis. And being only son they don t have any other choice also. From then
onwards every day I started calling them even before their message. This will be The Best lesson I
learnt informally for my life. When it comes to team work I used the Drexler/Sibbet team
performance model extensively. In our creativity and innovation class we will be having multiple
assignments for the week, so I went by each step of the model starting with Orientation of team by
meeting in library and brainstorm the ideas for the assignments and provide all necessary inputs
and hands over the responsibility to one of the team member so that the particular member feels
that we all are trusting him solely and also gives the 100% commitment without any external
factors. Which is good for the team to achieve the high performance. Not all the brainstorming
session ends smoothly, because we cannot incorporate all the ideas. So when it comes to dealing
with the conflict situations to convince the team without hurting anyone, I learned Thomas
Kilmann conflict mode Instrument (TKI) when to compromise and when to collaborate. And then

Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Paper
There are four main types of Epidermolysis Bullosa, all can be fatal and they affect infants and
children. Each case is different but all of them are extremely painful. Each one ranges from a form
of a mild case to severe case and sometimes even death. The four types of Epidermolysis Bullosa
include Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa, Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex, Junctional
Epidermolysis Bullosa and Epidermolysis Bullosa Acquista.
Each one mentioned above is very different form the other. Each one also has various sub types
of the condition. Today approximately one in ever fifty thousand children born are affected by
the disease. In today s general population nine in one million suffer from this disease. Most
people who have this disease pass away at a very young age. The oldest know person living with

Some of the more severe symptoms include loss of the teeth due to blistering on the inside of the
mouth which effect the tongue cheeks and gums. Some people have internal blistering which
effects the upper airway, intestines, stomach, throat, urinary tract, and the esophagus. Sometimes
with the internal blistering it causes death due to malnutrition from not getting the proper nutrients
and also causes death by suffocation due to the blisters and sores in the throat and airways.
Most doctors can tell when a child is born with Epidermolysis Bullosa just by looking at them but
still need to preform tests to make a positive diagnosis. Some of the test may include biopsy of the
skin in which the doctor takes a piece of infected tissue to determine exactly what type of
Epidermolysis Bullosa they have. Some other tests include genetic testing of the parents to see
which one carries the mutated gene or if both of them

Delius Florence Bird The Lark Ascending was written in 1914 however the score was
thoroughly revised between the years 1919 1920 with the first performance being on December

The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay
It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more
productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational
behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were
significant in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that
it is not the sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as
such human relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become
more important nowadays. Motivationdefined by Kreitner (1995) is the process that gives
behaviour purpose and direction. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the
behaviour, amount of effort put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990).
Motivation contains both intrinsic and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically
motivated behaviours are driven for self interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is
performed to satisfy own materiality or social rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013
p228). According to Herzberg s motivation theory (1968), intrinsic to work mainly promotes job
content which includes responsibilities, recognition, achievement, the work itself, growth and
advancement, extrinsic, on the other hand, refers to the context of the job which includes pay,
company policy, administrative and so on. It is

The World Of World War II
World War II has been considered one of the worst things to ever occur in history. Violence,
death and aggression took place in the 1930s and 1940s in certain European nations. German
leader, Hitler played an important, yet a very big role during this time. With the rise and
domination of fascism in Germany and Italy, the goal was to maintain peace, established by the
Treaty of Versailles ended up in major disaster. World War II began with the poor economic
conditions in Europe after World War I and the confrontation of clashing forms of governments
and in the end it brought about positive and negative changes of the world. World War II began
on September 1st, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland; this invasion led to the Japanese attack
at Pearl Harbor, The Great Depression, and the Holocaust. World War II began when Germany
invaded Poland when Hitler tried convincing Britain and France that the invasion was a
defensive act by bringing living space for the Germans but Britain and France was not convinced.
Hitler gave orders for the Poland invasion to begin on August 26, but on August 25 he delayed the
attack when he learned that Britain had signed a new Long 2 treaty with Poland, promising
military support should it be attacked. ( Germans Invade Poland. ) World War II had gotten more

Maria Montessori Key Lessons Essay
The Great Key Lessons and Key lessons. Maria Montessori believed that in presenting the whole
universe to the child in their early years, they would be given the courage to act many questions
about what the universe holds. This believed that this would help a child to become more aware of
what surrounds them and curious of what does not. Montessori separated the universeinto five
major sections and many minor ones to help introduce them to the child. Each story had the truths
of the universe as we have been thought them but also leave the child in awe and wonder to try and
comprehend these facts with their meaning. In the first story, the child is shown the universe as a

Naturally, a child will automatically become interested in a topic which is led by another. Interest
spreads to all, for all are linked and have their place in the universe on which the mind is centred.
The stars, earth, stones, life of all kinds form a whole in relation with each other, and so close is
this relation that we cannot understand a stone without some understanding of the great sun.
No matter what we touch, an atom, or a cell, we cannot explain it without the knowledge of the

others feel that it should be. Maria Montessori was deeply religious, and brought many of her
beliefs into the Great Lessons. These lessons came about back when religious beliefs were an

The global harmonic trajectory of the piece is embodied in the combination of these two

[7] The melodic cell and harmonic progression J and DOWN THIRD UP FIFTH sometimes
occur independently, but for the most part interact to create a larger unit. This larger unit, given
at the bottom of Example 2, is the motive of my title.(8) Again, the fact that the motive is
exclusively diatonic is significant, because it makes the chromatic pitch classes especially
salient. [8] The opening of the piece animates the motive by repeating and varying the duration
of J while arpeggiating the chords of DOWN THIRD UP FIFTH. Example 3 annotates the
melody of m. 1 through the downbeat of m. 3, which fuses together three Js.(9) By fusing
together three Js and altering the duration of the final pitch of each J (the durations are , , and ,
for the three occurrences, respectively), Brahms creates a symmetrical rhythmic structure.(10) The
dots below the staff indicate metric position: two dots indicate a strong beat, one dot a weak

threatened in some way. They will usually let go of the person after the first bite. There are 465

The Central Valley Of California
Study Area The Central Valley of California, United States, is a notable structural depression
which covers around 32,187km2 (Figure 1), and is bounded by the Cascade Range in the north,
the Sierra Nevada in the east, the Tehachapi Mountains to the South, and the Coast Ranges and
San Francisco Bay to the west (Planert 1995). The Valley has relatively flat topography, lying
close to mean sea level but is higher along the valley margins. Most of the valley boundary along
the eastern edge is about 152m above mean sea level and most of the western boundary ranges
from 15 107m above mean sea level (Jennings 2010). In the past 100 years sea level has risen in
the San Francisco Bay area by 10 20cm (Faunt 2009). The climate of the Central Valley area
allows for the strong agricultural activity year round (Johnston 1997), accounting for one sixth
of the country s irrigated land. Irrigation in the area relies on surface water deliveries and on
groundwater withdrawal from the underlying regional aquifer system (Lo 2012).The population
of the Central Valley area is around 6.5 million people according to the 2010 census and is one of
the fastest growing regions in the state (Jennings 2010). San Joaquin basin area contains half a

David And Solomon Essay
David and Solomon
King David proved to be a wise and effective leader for Israel. However, it can be said that his
son, Solomon, made several mistakes during his reign. Many of his problems originated from his
Temple, a stucture that was conceptualized by his father to be a deterrent against the paganism,
which infested the land. Yet, it seemed as if several of Solomon s policies actually encouraged
paganism rather than deter it.
King David, a member of the tribe of Judah was chosen by God to lead his people. As everyone
knows, he proved by his wise choices to be a very effective leader. As a great military strategist
David united the tribes and extended the national boundaries so that in his time Israel enjoyed a

The income from commerce and taxation was insufficient to support all of his building projects,
so he decided to cede 20 cities in Galilee to Tyre in order to raise supplemental income. Other
indications that his empire was weakening was the successful rebellions of Edom and Aram
against Israelite rule. Furthermore, the progressively weakening state of affairs allowed Jeroboam
to break away from Solomon s rule. He was able to attain leadership over Solomon s opponents
those that were frustrated with his policies of severe taxation and forced labor.
Concerning the actual Temple, one must be reminded that King David s original intentions were to
create a memorial against the Canaanite deities and paganism. However, when Solomon was given
responsibility of the construction, he seemed to have forgotten this. Some of the symbolism on the
alter was derived from Phoenicia, and can be traced back to older Canaanite symbols from
Mesopotamia. A serious spiritual weakness was starting to materialize in the Temple during this
time. Its elaborate organization and its heavy indebtedness to Syro Phoenician religious architecture
and practice. The danger of syncretism became very great so great that the following centuries were
characterized by bitter intermittent conflict between religious assimilators and religious separatists

Large Vs. Small Republic
Essay #1, Question 2
Large vs. Small Republic America is an incredibly vast, diverse country, and has been this way
for hundreds of years. The sheer size of America, even when it was only composed of thirteen
states with a total population of nearly three million people (Brutus, essay 1, p. 64), concerned
many Americans in the 1780s, due to this inquiry: was America simply too large for a republican
style government to work? Many anti federalists claimed that republics could only work on a small
scale, while the federalists believed that having a large republic was the only way to go and would
be beneficial to the public good. Before this time, history furnished no examples of a well
functioning republic as big as America, so the federalists and anti federalists were stepping into a
completely new untouched territory. Of course, history did furnish examples of small republics.
The Anti federalists drew upon these, in order to show that there are extreme advantages of having
a small territory and population for popular government, which promoted their reasoning for
wanting to keep the main powers of government local at the state level. Brutus mentions an
example of small republics in his first essay, stating that the Greek and Roman republics were of
small extent at first. These republics were successful until they conquered more territory, which
resulted in those republics becoming the most tyrannical that ever existed in the world. (Brutus,
essay 1 p. 63). The reason

Wildlife-Conservation and Importance(India)
Meaning of Conservation
Conservation is the act of using and protecting resources properly. Catching animals, throwing
garbage, and using and harnessing the different resources should all adhere to the proper way of
conservation.
Wildlife includes all non domesticated plants, animals and other organisms. Domesticating wild
plant and animal species for human benefit has occurred many times all over the planet, and has a
major impact on the environment, both positive and negative. Wildlife can be found in all
ecosystems. Deserts, rain forests, plains, and other areas including the most developed urban sites

Many processes associated human habitation of an area cause loss of this area and decrease the
carrying capacity of the land for that species.
Examples of habitat destruction include grazing of bush land by farmed animals, changes to natural
fire regimes, forest clearing for timber production and wetland draining for city expansion. Impact
of introduced species
The vast majority of species exposed to a new habitat do not reproduce successfully. Occasionally,
however, some populations do take hold and after a period of acclimation can increase in numbers
significantly, having destructive effects on many elements of the native environment. The Rattus
Rattus is native to India, but it has spread to almost everywhere in the world. This rat has directly
caused, or contributed to, the extinction of multiple wildlife species including a variety of birds,
plants and other small mammals. They re blamed for the incredible decline in seabirds on several
islands, including many Hawaiian species
Some introduced species (such as most of our food crops and pets) are beneficial. However, others
are very damaging. People have moved species around the world for millenia, sometimes by
accident, but often with considerable enthusiasm. English garden birds in New Zealand are merely
quaint curiosities introduced by settlers wanting the familiar species of their former homes. Some
introductions have been devastating

The Importance Of Character Demeanor In Wide Sargasso Sea
The Mind Within: How Character Demeanor is influenced by the World Outside Setting plays a
crucial role in the development of a novel, as it gives readers insight within the book through its
ability to evoke emotion from characters and readers alike, as well as reflect the society in which
the characters exist. In Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea, the setting is used to allow characters to
perceive the environment around them, which influences behaviour through the connection of
understanding between the character and nature of the framework in which they thrive. Throughout
the novel, setting is used to alter characters views about the world around them, which influences
the demeanor of characters through its ability to evoke uncertainties concerning the world around
them, affect development of identity through perception of the nature of the environment, and
foreshadow events that lead to changes in the awareness of characters. Rochester s limited
understanding about the world around him represents the way setting conjures uncertainties within
the perception of characters to influence behaviour. Rochester is portrayed as a man who finds
Jamaica to be an alluring yet oddly mysterious place. He speaks of the area and the people who
live within it as lovely... but sly, spiteful, malignant (Rhys, 36). This stresses Rochester s
uncertainties, as he looks upon Jamaica as a land of beauty, yet feels uncertain about its appeal as
he calls it lovely, yet counteracts this immediately,

El tema de gobierno corporativo (GC de ahora en adelante) se origina con la idea de la empresa

Inhumanity In Tuesdays With Morrie And Night
There is only one way in which one can endure man s inhumanity to man and that is to try, in one
s own life, to exemplify man s humanity to man Alan Paton. Neither of the characters in Tuesdays
with Morrie by Mitch Albom, and Night by Elie Wiesel, had a choice about the inhumanity they
faced. One was cursed with a fatal disease and the other was put in a deathcamp. Even though both
of the main characters, Morrie and Elie, experienced copious amounts of inhumanity, they both
found it in them to be humane. Both Tuesdays with Morrie and Night deal with cases of
inhumanity and get through it by being humane to others.

Elie is in a concentration camp that forces him to face inhumanity everyday. Elie and the others
in the camp never knew when they were going to face death, like Morrie. From day one Elie was
dehumanized and treated like an animal. When he was taken from his home, he was placed in a
cattle car. He was then given a number and stripped from his identity. The Nazis continually
called him worthless and a pig. Elie questioned how anyone could be humane in a situation like
this and said, Humanity? Humanity is not concerned with us. Today anything is allowed.
Anything is possible, even these crematories (30), but despite all of the trauma and inhumanity
Elie faced on a daily basis, he was humane to his father. Elie did everything in his power to stay
alive for his father, similiar in a way to Mitch in Tuesdays with Morrie. Elie showed humanity to
his father. In the beginning when they had to march everywhere, Shlomo, Elie s father, struggled
with it. Like Morrie, Elie taught Shlomo how to march and to not get in trouble. Elie wanted the
best for his father. When Elie s father was on his deathbed, Elie brought him food and water, even
though Elie himself was starving. Elie did not give in to the inhumanity that was brought upon him.

THE INFLUENCE OF PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION ON AMERICAN SCHOOLING
The Progressive Era was from 1890 1919 when President Theodore Roosevelt became predecessor
to President William McKinley whom was assassinated. For decades, it has been a controversial
debate on how influential Progressive Education is on American Schooling. The Progressive
Movement started because of the development of big businesses and corporations as education
became a major topic for reformers due to child labor laws and public schooling became the
central focus in the United States. Efforts of this movement were to regulate big businesses,
governmental reform, women s suffrage, and temperance. (Hayes 2006, p. 7) I am a follower in

According to Alfie Kohn s article and his views on Progressive Education, he saw it as attending to
the whole child, since educators were concerned with helping children become good learners and
good people...he felt that children learn with and from one another in a caring community, and that
s true of moral as well as academic learning...where opportunities are offered not only to learn about,

how successful they and their teachers have been. (2008, pgs. 18 19)

plot, and character development. At the end of this story the minister who is wearing the veil
rhetorically asks, What but the mystery which it obscurely typifies has made this piece of crape
so awful? (Hawthorne 1044). Hawthorne has built up this character so carefully and intensely to
this point, to quite directly state that this veil on his face represents mystery. The minister also
begs the question of, what else does it represent? Asking his congregation, who also persecuted
him, to look deep in themselves and figure out the real reason for his apparel. The minister
blatantly reveals that his veil typifies mystery in a sense where his congregation cannot keep
themselves together, unless they know the absolute truth. Hawthorne uses this veil as a direct
representation of mystery and self control, but he also uses it as a symbol of a divine controller,
tying in spirituality and religion. Towards the beginning of the story the minister reveals himself
looking different, as he wore an obvious black veil over his face. His audience hated the idea of
his new look as they muttered amongst themselves, I don t like it, and Our parson has gone mad!
(Hawthorne 1038). These two particular quotes obviously reveal the initial distaste for the veil, but
it also shows that the congregation could not even control themselves, as they wondered why he
wore this disgusting cover. The

Human Cloning Essay
Imagine a future where humans are manufactured, a future where humans are created by science, a
future where humans are the new lab specimen. Human cloning is like opening Pandora s Box,
unleashing a torrent of potential evils but at the same time bringing a small seed of hope. No
matter how many potential medical and scientific benefits could be made possible by humancloning
, it is unethical to clone humans. Before the ethics of human cloning can be discussed, the
mechanics of cloning must be understood first. Cloning is the process of making an exact genetic
copy of an organism by a method called nuclear transplantation which is a process of removing a
nucleus (the center of a cellwhich contains all of the biological information)... Show more content

Human cloning is not always copying and creating a full organism; that is reproductive cloning.
Cloning just an organ or tissue is called therapeutic cloning, and is a technology that is not
possible yet but scientists feel that it is only a matter of time (Tierney). With that technology,
many patients could be cured of previously life long conditions such as paralysis, chronic heart
attacks, and leukemia. A long term disease such as infertility could be cured as well by creating
a clone of the female and then transplanting that clone s eggs into the female and then the
children the couple has will be their biological children! Even amputees could have limbs
regenerated in a lab and reattached (Smith). These medical advances seem like a cure all, but they
are not possible at the moment because we do not know enough about the human genome to see
which genes code for certain proteins which shape the function of the cell. With our current
technology, we cannot direct a cell to specialize into a kidney cell to transplant into a patient
needing a new kidney. Current technology doesn t allow for the creation of spare parts but it is
possible to create fully functional humans (after many attempts), and then the human that was
created could then be grown and disemboweled for spare parts (Dudley 30). The idea of creating a

Kalina was taken away, Katina stayed in the corner of a pool, shaking, screeching, and crying.
There was nothing that you could call that, watching it, besides grief, said Berg. In 1994, Kalina
returned to SeaWorld Orlando. Due to such a long absence, her mother ignored her for the rest of
her life.
Captivity is detrimental to orcas health. According to PETA, less than 1% of orcas in the wild

dehydration. In SeaWorld, 100% of captive male Orcas have a collapsed dorsal fin. Orcas are

George Orwell Politics And The English Language Analysis
In Politics and the English language, George Orwell portrays various tricks by which the work
of prose construction is habitually dodged. (Orwell 583). Orwell s argument is the English
language is being deformed by modern writers thus mocking the use of the language. Orwell
relates this topic to political and economic issues to show how the use of English is critical with
these aspects. He refers to this topic as a reversible process (Orwell 581) if writers follow his six
rules; without them the writing contains staleness of imagery and lack of precision. (Orwell 582).
Orwell names these tricks: dying metaphors, operators or verbal false limbs, pretentious diction,
and meaningless words. In Shooting an Elephant, Orwell uses these tricks to provide rhetorical
motives. Orwell mentions He wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it (Orwell 853) to refer to
himself when he was a police man in Moulmein, Burma.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orwell states dying metaphors are in effect reverted to being an ordinary word and can generally
be used without loss of vividness. (Orwell 583). The comparison between a man wearing a mask
and the face of the man growing into the mask negate each other causing this metaphor to be
unclear. The negation kills the visual image for the reader by making it unclear if the mask
actually fits Orwell s face. If the reader cannot picture the comparison of a metaphor, it fails to
have meaning which is classifies it as a dead

The funerary procession undertaken by Tutankhamen s mummy, started off with the death rituals, it

Max Webber
MAX WEBER By: JD Mojica Life and career Max Weber was born on April 21, 1864, the eldest
of seven children, and grew up in a cultured bourgeois household, ruled by a strong authoritarian
father. At University in Heidelberg, Weber studied economics, medieval history and philosophy as
well as law. A period of military service brought him under the care of his uncle, Hermann
Baumgarten, a historian, and his wife. Both uncle and aunt acted as mentors to Weber, the former
as a liberal who treated him as an intellectual peer, the latter as a person who impressed him with
her deep sense of social responsibility towards her charitable work. Both offered a stark contrast to

Bureaucratization Weber recognized the dangers of bureaucratization and spoke of how
measurement processes could turn people into cogs in a machine. In this, Weber s reflections are
not too distant from Marx s theories of alienation. Although organizational bureaucratization
increases efficiency and the capability for greater production that mechanical efficiency also
threatens to dehumanize its participants. Weber also believed, however, that the only way people
could make a significant contribution was to subjugate their personalities and desires to the
impersonal goals and procedures of large scale organizations. Paradoxically, Weber believed that
the only way to escape such a mechanical future was for a charismatic leader to transform the
organization into something new. Bureaucracy became the model for the twentieth century
organization, and was encapsulated in the organization of Alfred Sloan s General Motors and
Harold Geneen s ITT. Perhaps the mundanity and regularity of bureaucratic, corporate life was
best described in William Whyte s The Organization Man (1956) in which the individual was
taken over by the bureaucratic machine, in the name of efficiency. A more recent and humorous
interpretation of life in a bureaucracy has been depicted by Scott Adams in The Dilbert Principle.
The bureaucracy may have outlived its age of supremacy, but it is still hard to foresee a future
without any need for the order,

format. Using only what information can be obtained from counting customers and reading
industry newsletters Mr. Swan, has made investments in equipment and promotions. To date the
returns on investment have been disappointing.
Mr. Swan has chosen a multiple target market approach putting all hockey and figure skaters in one

By being perceived as unique in value the arena should have some insulation against competitive
rivalry for the customer s dollars. Building customer loyalty has long term affects. This moves the
bargaining power for price into the hands of the arena, increasing margins. These strategies
together make for a more positive market orientation and there is compelling evidence that a
market orientation has a positive effect on firm performance (Hou, 2008). Having laid out a
framework of new strategies it s time to do some data mining to find the numbers for Swan s
perceived customers segments.
Data Mining
The government collects all kinds of useful information about our population. How many people
live where, incomes, family sizes, ages, do they rent or own a home, and lots more demographic
data that is free for the asking. Modern computer programs make possible for any company to take
the masses of demographics and analysis segment populations. This has propelled data mining to
the forefront of making customers relationships profitable (Ogwueleka, 2009). This will help Swan
understand his customers better and find association between each segment. Customer have life
cycle due in part to the time of year, so Swan can now structure his advertising and see results based
on a better segment model rather than just counting customers. Data mining can also be used in
customer retention applications identifying

Examples Of Heroism In The Great Gatsby
Tragic heroes are characterized by authors through the use of specific characteristics and traits
associated with the definition of a tragic hero. A tragic hero is defined as a great or virtuous
character who has a tragic flaw that eventually leads to their downfall, which they face with dignity
and courage. The novel The Great Gatsbyby Scott Fitzgerald depicts life in America in the 1920s.
Jay Gatsbyis portrayed as a modern tragic herowho is responsible for his own downfall, however
is morally ambiguous, and whose nature is described in heroic terms. In the novel, Gatsby is a
tragic hero as he displays the fundamental characteristics of a modern tragic hero, which contains a
tragic flaw, and eventually a tragic fall.

Fitzgerald conveys the message that morality is of little importance to many people, especially
in terms of obtaining status and wealth. Gatsby was highly motivated on planning to escape his
life in North Dakota. He was resentful of his shiftless and unsuccessful (p9) parents and never
really accepted them as his parents at all (p9). His desire to escape poverty and limits of his
upbringing ends when he encounters Dan Cody who teaches his the skills in which he uses in
the bootlegging business. This is the moment where he changes his legal name, James Gatz, to
Jay Gatsby, allowing him to leave behind his past of poverty and transition into the life of new
money . With this job, Gatsby is suddenly given the opportunity to attain his goal in the quickest
and easiest way despite it being illegal. His decision to participate in this illegal trade displays his
desire to reach his dream of Daisy. Not only does this disregard morals, once he attains his
wealth he chose to have an affair with Daisy despite her being married to Tom Buchannan. This
shows his willingness to forsake his morals in order to acquire Daisy s love which equates to
money. The lemons and oranges brought into Gatsby s house are symbolic of the moral depletion
at the parties where they begin fresh and somewhat innocent, ending in the disregard of morals as
acts such as drunkenness was performed.

Physical strength is important because a person s body can only withstand so much. According
to Grayson Schaffer in The Value of a Sherpa Life the Sherpa porters struggle to survive in the
hardships and conditions they face. He writes, The men who were struck were carrying 80
pound loads to Camps I and II, or they were on their way back to base camp (1). This shows how
hard the Sherpas work and the weight of the supplies they have to withstand. Similarly, members on

The crew members on the Caird need to be strong to survive their tough journey. Worsley s report

When one thinks of the 1950s, they are most likely thinking about the culture of America during

Normally I m a person who can answer any question with ease, but this one caught me off guard.
So I began thinking to myself what is exactly art? I didn t really have an answer to that right away.
So after more thoughtI realized that art is anything you want it to be. Art isn t merely a drawing
or a painting. Art is how you express yourself when words aren t enough. Art can be a memory
caught in time. Art can be the sounds or lyrics you hear of everyday music. I finally realized to me

Anything means seeing the shapes of clouds that look like that beautiful landscape you saw
earlier that day. It can also be that old incomplete painting half covered by that tarp that you ve
always meant to finish. The point is that you get across what you need to say. It doesn t matter
how it looks like. There s no such thing as good or bad art. It s just what you want your viewer to
understand or see from the picture. It s anything that expresses your feelings or imagination. Art
is breathing life into something you create. It s like your child that you cradle in your arms and
to nurse it to life. To create a body, to give it flesh and bone and breathe life into its shadowed
eyes and form a personality through expression, this cannot be done from nothing. It s created
from the very paint of your soul, the material expression of your feelings. It s derived from the very
being of you. You are the God of your own work; you gave it a beating heart. It helps you purge the
soul of your feeling all the bad and good. It can create a lovely piece of art or something dark and

experiment with media. Others have a way of using it for commercial purposes. Back in the day
it was used to tell a story. To some it s a form of entertainment. It s to make people happy and put

Consequently, I have researched and written numerous papers, including my undergraduate thesis,

My philosophy on teaching is simple. Quality over quantity. Rather than inundating students with
copious amounts of meaningless busy work, I would rather focus on ensuring that each and every
student comprehends and fully understands whatever topic I may be presenting that day. I have
had my fair share of experience with apathetic teachers at the high school and university level so I
am well aware of the toxic and stale environment that they propagate within their classrooms.
Education is one of the most precious gifts we are given in our lives and that is the atmosphere I
wish to promote within my own classroom. While some students may agree with this concept, I am
aware that there are just as many that will not. However, through putting in time and hard work I
believe that I will be able to connect and help all of my students. While South Korea is a very
different world when compared to the united states, I am confident that my education and
experiences of to this point have sufficiently prepared me for live overseas. I previously spent a

  • 6. The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells Essays The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells gives an account of a man s descent into madness as the result of his scientific feat, invisibility. Griffin, the invisible man, first appears as a mysterious stranger, bandaged and seeking shelter and recluse but progressively transforms into a lawless individual with a proposition to initiate a reign of terror. The change in Griffin s character occurs due to his invisibility and the power it provides because there is no one, on this view, who is iron willed enough to maintain his morality and find the strength of purpose to keep his hands off what does not belong to him, when he is able to take whatever he wants from the market stalls without fear of being discovered, to enter houses and sleep with... Being invisible and the subsequent notion of invincibility causes the invisible man to act as he pleases as his inhibitions disappear as the fear of being reprimanded is removed. The absence of consequences strips away the good in Griffin s nature and fosters his madness as he starts stealing from the markets and begins his spree of breaking into houses. However, the invisibility that Griffin viewed as power ultimately is a poison as the invisible man must sacrifice greatly for his for his power. The invisible man schemes grand dreams that can be realized through his invisibility but discovers that no doubt invisibility made it possible to get them, but it made it impossible to enjoy them when they are got (Wells 121). Because of his invisibility, the invisible man finds himself ostracized, in a state of danger, and no longer able to enjoy everyday customs like eating lunch at a restaurant. Griffin finds himself even unable to celebrate his discovery with others with fear of that they might steal credit for his feat or that the exposure might cause a rejection. Due to his invisible state, his grandest ambitions are trivialized and frustrated by the very discovery that spurred those ambitions (Beiderwell). • 8. The Effect Of Sleep On The Regulation Of Emotional... Introduction The goal of this study was to investigate the role of sleep in the regulation of emotional reactivity and mood, and in particular the role of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. The research team led by Rosales Lagarde measured the impact of total sleep deprivation (TSD) by evaluating subjective responses to frustration and aversive stimuli. It was found that coping skills and emotional regulatory abilities were decreased along with decision making skills following REM sleep disturbances. It was also found that the subjects that experienced disturbances in REM sleep displayed a greater degree of impulsiveness when faced with a risky decision and favored utilitarian judgments. The data was collected using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) imaging of the brain during the various stages of the experiment, and during the administration of the Emotional Reactivity Task. It was found that there is a greater and longer lasting activation of the amygdala while viewing negative stimuli, and specifically following TSD. This study was based on previous research that suggests that REM sleep plays a significant role in emotional regulation, as brain areas associated with emotion are specifically activated during REM sleep cycles. These include the amygdaloid complex, medial and orbital frontal cortices, and posterior association areas. Background Other related studies have evaluated the effect of REM sleep in animals and emotional reactivity. It has been found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Fourth Amendment And The 4th Amendment A persons property is often what they take pride in, which makes it easy to see why the saying a mans home is his castle is so popular and widely understood. So when the gates of their castle get knocked down and their treasures taken; the king of the castle is left with nothing to hold as his own. Americans right to be secure is the moat surrounding their castle, it guarantees Americans protection against unreasonable search and seizure. The right to be secure is guaranteed in the 4th amendment of the Bill of Rights, which is a section of the U.S. Constitution listing a citizens guaranteed rights. The U.S. Constitution was written in 1787 but lacked the support required to be ratified; as it needed support from 9 of the 13 states prior to its ratification. The constitution received the backing of its 9th state after adding the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. The addition of a Bill of Rights was required for the support of many states as one of the largest concerns the states had with the Constitution was that the Government would have too much power and control over citizens. So the addition of a Bill or Rights stating what the Government may or may not do as well as guaranteeing the freedoms and rights of citizens helped end the states concerns. The support after the addition of the Bill of Rights led to the Constitutions ratification on March 4th, 1789. To my surprise few of the Management skills I was performing in my day to day life in a corporate environment without knowing it. And then there are some brand new skills I have learnt in the class such as Tuckman s team model, Drexler/Sibbet team performance model. And being only son they don t have any other choice also. From then onwards every day I started calling them even before their message. This will be The Best lesson I learnt informally for my life. When it comes to team work I used the Drexler/Sibbet team performance model extensively. In our creativity and innovation class we will be having multiple assignments for the week, so I went by each step of the model starting with Orientation of team by meeting in library and brainstorm the ideas for the assignments and provide all necessary inputs and hands over the responsibility to one of the team member so that the particular member feels that we all are trusting him solely and also gives the 100% commitment without any external factors. Which is good for the team to achieve the high performance. Not all the brainstorming session ends smoothly, because we cannot incorporate all the ideas. So when it comes to dealing with the conflict situations to convince the team without hurting anyone, I learned Thomas Kilmann conflict mode Instrument (TKI) when to compromise and when to collaborate. • 14. The Impact Of Remuneration On The Workplace Essay It is universally acknowledged that remuneration is the key to drive the employees to be more productivity, enhance job satisfaction as well as the direction that determines the organizational behaviour of one. In the early 1900s, Taylor (1903) suggested that financial incentives were significant in improving efficiency of workers. However, the role of money has been revealed that it is not the sole factor to improve worker performance, while other factors need to be considered, as such human relations and social networks in the workplace, it is evident that these have become more important nowadays. Motivationdefined by Kreitner (1995) is the process that gives behaviour purpose and direction. It is also defined as psychological drives which determine the behaviour, amount of effort put and degree of persistence in the face of obstacles (Kanfer 1990). Motivation contains both intrinsic and extrinsic sources (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). Intrinsically motivated behaviours are driven for self interest whereby extrinsically motivated behaviour is performed to satisfy own materiality or social rewards or to avoid punishment (Weddell et al. 2013 p228). According to Herzberg s motivation theory (1968), intrinsic to work mainly promotes job content which includes responsibilities, recognition, achievement, the work itself, growth and advancement, extrinsic, on the other hand, refers to the context of the job which includes pay, company policy, administrative and so on. Montessori separated the universeinto five major sections and many minor ones to help introduce them to the child. Each story had the truths of the universe as we have been thought them but also leave the child in awe and wonder to try and comprehend these facts with their meaning. Yet, it seemed as if several of Solomon s policies actually encouraged paganism rather than deter it. King David, a member of the tribe of Judah was chosen by God to lead his people. He was able to attain leadership over Solomon s opponents those that were frustrated with his policies of severe taxation and forced labor. Concerning the actual Temple, one must be reminded that King David s original intentions were to create a memorial against the Canaanite deities and paganism. However, when Solomon was given responsibility of the construction, he seemed to have forgotten this. • 25. Large Vs. Small Republic Essay #1, Question 2 Large vs. Small Republic America is an incredibly vast, diverse country, and has been this way for hundreds of years. The sheer size of America, even when it was only composed of thirteen states with a total population of nearly three million people (Brutus, essay 1, p. 64), concerned many Americans in the 1780s, due to this inquiry: was America simply too large for a republican style government to work? Many anti federalists claimed that republics could only work on a small scale, while the federalists believed that having a large republic was the only way to go and would be beneficial to the public good. Before this time, history furnished no examples of a well functioning republic as big as America, so the federalists and anti federalists were stepping into a completely new untouched territory. Of course, history did furnish examples of small republics. The Anti federalists drew upon these, in order to show that there are extreme advantages of having a small territory and population for popular government, which promoted their reasoning for wanting to keep the main powers of government local at the state level. Brutus mentions an example of small republics in his first essay, stating that the Greek and Roman republics were of small extent at first. These republics were successful until they conquered more territory, which resulted in those republics becoming the most tyrannical that ever existed in the world. (Brutus, essay 1 p. 63). The Importance Of Character Demeanor In Wide Sargasso Sea The Mind Within: How Character Demeanor is influenced by the World Outside Setting plays a crucial role in the development of a novel, as it gives readers insight within the book through its ability to evoke emotion from characters and readers alike, as well as reflect the society in which the characters exist. In Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea, the setting is used to allow characters to perceive the environment around them, which influences behaviour through the connection of understanding between the character and nature of the framework in which they thrive. Throughout the novel, setting is used to alter characters views about the world around them, which influences the demeanor of characters through its ability to evoke uncertainties concerning the world around them, affect development of identity through perception of the nature of the environment, and foreshadow events that lead to changes in the awareness of characters. Rochester s limited understanding about the world around him represents the way setting conjures uncertainties within the perception of characters to influence behaviour. Rochester is portrayed as a man who finds Jamaica to be an alluring yet oddly mysterious place. He speaks of the area and the people who live within it as lovely... but sly, spiteful, malignant (Rhys, 36). For decades, it has been a controversial debate on how influential Progressive Education is on American Schooling. At the end of this story the minister who is wearing the veil rhetorically asks, What but the mystery which it obscurely typifies has made this piece of crape so awful? (Hawthorne 1044). Hawthorne has built up this character so carefully and intensely to this point, to quite directly state that this veil on his face represents mystery. The minister also begs the question of, what else does it represent? Asking his congregation, who also persecuted him, to look deep in themselves and figure out the real reason for his apparel. The minister blatantly reveals that his veil typifies mystery in a sense where his congregation cannot keep themselves together, unless they know the absolute truth. Hawthorne uses this veil as a direct representation of mystery and self control, but he also uses it as a symbol of a divine controller, tying in spirituality and religion. Towards the beginning of the story the minister reveals himself looking different, as he wore an obvious black veil over his face. His audience hated the idea of his new look as they muttered amongst themselves, I don t like it, and Our parson has gone mad! (Hawthorne 1038). These two particular quotes obviously reveal the initial distaste for the veil, but it also shows that the congregation could not even control themselves, as they wondered why he wore this disgusting cover. Human cloning is like opening Pandora s Box, unleashing a torrent of potential evils but at the same time bringing a small seed of hope. No matter how many potential medical and scientific benefits could be made possible by humancloning , it is unethical to clone humans. Before the ethics of human cloning can be discussed, the mechanics of cloning must be understood first. Cloning is the process of making an exact genetic copy of an organism by a method called nuclear transplantation which is a process of removing a nucleus (the center of a cellwhich contains all of the biological information)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human cloning is not always copying and creating a full organism; that is reproductive cloning. Cloning just an organ or tissue is called therapeutic cloning, and is a technology that is not possible yet but scientists feel that it is only a matter of time (Tierney). With that technology, many patients could be cured of previously life long conditions such as paralysis, chronic heart attacks, and leukemia. A long term disease such as infertility could be cured as well by creating a clone of the female and then transplanting that clone s eggs into the female and then the children the couple has will be their biological children! Even amputees could have limbs regenerated in a lab and reattached (Smith). These medical advances seem like a cure all, but they are not possible at the moment because we do not know enough about the human genome to see which genes code for certain proteins which shape the function of the cell. With our current technology, we cannot direct a cell to specialize into a kidney cell to transplant into a patient needing a new kidney. Current technology doesn t allow for the creation of spare parts but it is possible to create fully functional humans (after many attempts), and then the human that was created could then be grown and disemboweled for spare parts (Dudley 30). Bureaucratization Weber recognized the dangers of bureaucratization and spoke of how measurement processes could turn people into cogs in a machine. In this, Weber s reflections are not too distant from Marx s theories of alienation. Although organizational bureaucratization increases efficiency and the capability for greater production that mechanical efficiency also threatens to dehumanize its participants. Weber also believed, however, that the only way people could make a significant contribution was to subjugate their personalities and desires to the impersonal goals and procedures of large scale organizations. Paradoxically, Weber believed that the only way to escape such a mechanical future was for a charismatic leader to transform the organization into something new. Bureaucracy became the model for the twentieth century organization, and was encapsulated in the organization of Alfred Sloan s General Motors and Harold Geneen s ITT. So after more thoughtI realized that art is anything you want it to be. Art isn t merely a drawing or a painting. Art is how you express yourself when words aren t enough. Art can be a memory caught in time. Art can be the sounds or lyrics you hear of everyday music. I finally realized to me art was an expressionand a whole other language. Art is creating something to become attached to. Art is the company that keeps you inspired and constantly striving... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can also be that old incomplete painting half covered by that tarp that you ve always meant to finish. The point is that you get across what you need to say. It doesn t matter how it looks like. There s no such thing as good or bad art. It s just what you want your viewer to understand or see from the picture. It s anything that expresses your feelings or imagination. Although my trip ended more than 2 years ago, I have continued to study the Korean language and culture. Now that I speak Korean with an almost native fluency, I cannot foresee any problems that may arise for me whilst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
