Mountains Beyond Mountains Summary
Dokte Paul. the first part of the book titled Mountains Beyond Mountains, begins when author and
journalist Tracy Kidder first met Dr. Farmer in Haiti. Kidder describes Dr. Farmer as a big shot Boston
doctor who has chosen to do humanitarian type work in Haiti even though he could have an easy
career as a lecturer back in Boston. Kidder realizes that Dr. Farmer is the atypical doctor who would
rather get to know his patients as people and cares about their health holistically instead of just
treating the symptoms and moving on. The next year, Dr. Farmer invites Kidder back to Haiti with
him, and Kidder begins to observe Dr. Farmer at work. Kidder notices that Dr. Farmer s patients and
co workers call him Dokte Paul; the word dokte is Haitian Creole for doctor. Kidder also observes the
unsanitary conditions of life in the Cange region of Haiti. There, Dr. Farmer established the charity
called Zamni Lasante, which is Haitian Creole for friend health. This charity not only provides low
cost or free medical care, it also builds houses and schools. Dr. Farmer often uses his own money to
help keep the charity going, and lives very modestly despite being a successful physician. Dr. Farmer
begins educating journalist Kidder about the Haitian people, the health issues they face, and some of
their superstitions. He also explains the Haitian proverb, mountains beyond mountains, which means
that for every metaphorical mountain a person climbs,

Essay on Thomas Malthus Section Summary
Thomas Malthus Section Summary Malthus work, Essay on the Principle of Population, is often cited,
first by Darwin himself, to have influenced Darwin s conception of the theory of natural selection. His
work, though unpopular, and often proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the forefront many
socio economic issues that are still being debated today: population control, food production and
concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population. In this passage it is
stated that Malthus was proven wrong: ...Malthus dire predictions have proven to be wrong...
(Efficiency and Equity 211). However, though his calculations have proven to be wrong because he
could not accurately account for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense, Malthus did not correctly identify the growth in family size as a reflexive response to
economic necessity.
Question Two The argument that Malthus set growth rates of food in relation to population ignored the
role of food prices is accurate. In fact, by using set rates only in relation to each other, he ignored
much more than food prices. In an artificial economy established in an economic lab such set ratios
can be accurately predictive. However, in the natural environment, there are many external factors that
would affect change on his model, and did affect change. Prices are a key oversight in his theory.
While the basic premise that population growth may outstrip the growth in food productivity was true
based on the circumstances within which he operated, he didn t account for the economics of food
productivity to drive an increase in production worldwide that offset any local market conditions and
shortages in supply. In yet another respect, the role of food prices may depress population growth in

Cultural Heritage Of The French Tourism
Tourism in France is an important activity, both for the French who choose to spend their holidays,
and foreigners who come to stay. Thus, since 1990, France became the first tourist destination in the
world. The tourist attraction of France is due to the large number and wide variety of points of interest,
diversity of landscapes, the rich cultural and artistic heritage, the temperate climate and ease of access
and transport infrastructure, but also the important equipment in the country and varied reception
facilities (hotels, amusement parks...). Thus, each department is a French tourist department with
several points of interest. France has a rich well known cultural heritage, favored by many sites listed
as World Heritage of UNESCO. The French tourism has many different facets and positive economic
impacts and France makes every effort to maintain the liveliness of this important asset. The history of
tourism in France began around 1760 in the south of France in Hyeres, becoming a common winter
resort renowned among UK thanks to its relatively mild Mediterranean climate. In 1910 Alexandre
Millerand, the French Minister of Public Works at the time, created the first tourism office, with the
desire to promote those places that must be contemplated and visited by many. The intellectual vision
that covers his entourage will then change since we will be more aware of our surroundings. We
decide consciously to build tourism in these places. However, the trip is

End of Life Choices
End of Life Choices
Over the course of the semester, we have covered many interesting topics in this class. However, the
one that I continually struggled to form a solid opinion on, and sincerely had to ponder what my
decisions would be in the given situations, was the topic of end of life choices. My own personal
thoughts and beliefs would conflict with my religious following, and my mind would continually
change on such topics as whether or not physician assisted suicide should be legal, or whether or not I
would want to keep living in a persistent vegetative state in the hope of a miracle recovery. I still
struggle forming an unyielding position, but the information we have learned in this class has helped
me learn more on these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has showed me how important it is to know what you personally want for yourself near the end of
your life, and to also let your family know of these wishes. I can not say that I am completely in favor
of physician assisted suicide, or that I would want to be pulled off a ventilator for sure, but at least I
have been forced to think about these issues and have begun to form an opinion. My Catholic morals
may have been modified a bit after taking this course. In no way do I look at this as a negative
experience, but more as an eye opening one that has forced some necessary issues upon

Larynx Essay
Speech production is essentially the structures along the vocal tract that work together to modify the
airstream and this can be greatly affected when someone has cancer of the Larynx. Laryngeal cancer,
also known as Laryngeal Carcinoma, develops as a result of malignant cells that form in the tissues of
the larynx and can be potentially life threatening. The larynx is a frequent site for cancer and accounts
for 3 5% of human cancers. The larynx is critical for speech so anything that affects the larynx will
disrupt the natural flow of vocal communication, especially something as extreme as Laryngeal
Cancer. A person who undergoes procedures and surgeries to rid these cancerous cells can often result
in a loss of speech. However, a person may have the opportunity to continue living as normally as
possible with the use of Esophageal Speech. Although a person has to adapt to this new method of
speaking, it allows them to still express themselves with their voice, even after surgery.
The Larynx is located at the trachea and at the base of the tongue, consisting of three main parts
known as Supraglottis, Glottis and Subglottis which all work together to create a properly working
Larynx. It separates humans from other mammals because it is responsible for voice resonance and
spoken language. The larynx is essential for many other bodily functions including swallowing,
phonation and respiration. However, the larynx can be broken down into two primary functions

Second Industrial Revolution Research Paper
The second industrial revolution refers to the time period of 1870s and 1880 s, which profoundly
altered the European life. The major innovations of the second industrial revolution include the
widespread use of steel and electricity in the industries, the perfection of mass production technology,
the rise of technical education in colleges and universities and the growth of a new professional class
in the society (More). It was a period of centralized management and control, which integrated the
means of production, distribution and marketing of goods. The second industrial revolution resulted in
the establishment of urban factories that drove the population from the rural villages and towns to the
urban cities. The new inventions revolutionized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

changes and new liberties in Europe. The two political parties, the Whigs and the Tories dominated
English politics during this period. Industrial revolution emphasized individualism and natural
economic law, supporting the ideas of a planned economy and social cooperation. England paralleled
an incomparable degree of political liberty with economic and social reforms, avoiding the extremes
of the industrial revolution (More). However, political upheaval, wars, fluctuations in imports and
exports resulted in unemployment and widespread distress. Technological improvements mobilized
the factors of production, namely, land, labor and capital. During the First Industrial Revolution, there
was a mutual dependence between industry and commerce; however, the inadequate communication
system could not bring buyers and sellers together (Simpson and Jones). By the Second Industrial

Fixed Interest Rate Mortgage
As a consumer planning for a home purchase, one of the major decisions that you will have to make is
deciding what type of mortgage will best meet your needs. In today s mortgage market, the types of
mortgages available to you can be divided into two categories, adjustable and fixed interest rate
mortgages.
Before discussing the benefits and pitfalls of each mortgage type, let s recap their primary differences.
A fixed rate mortgage is a mortgage where the rate and the monthly mortgage payments are fixed to a
specific amount for the entire life of the loan. An adjustable rate mortgage, also known as an ARM,
however, is a mortgage where the rate can fluctuate throughout the life of the loan. Because the rate in
an ARM can change, the monthly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The benefit of an ARM to you is that the short term interest rate on an ARM is typically lower than the
interest rate of a fixed rate mortgage. For example, If you plan on staying in a home for only 5 years, a
5 Year ARM is a good idea because its interest rate will be much lower than a 30 year fixed rate loan
and will cost you less. The danger of an ARM, however, is that if your plans change and you have to
stay in your home for more than 5 years, the ARM s interest rate can suddenly change after the 5 year
adjustment period, possibly making your monthly mortgage payment much higher and burdensome.
You can use an adjustable rate mortgage calculator to experiment with worst case payments of an
adjustable rate

Importance of Cross Cultural Communications
Effective cross cultural communication is one of the most important issues dealt with in business,
particularly when a firm operates at an international level. Communication is a process with three key
elements, which includes a source, an audience, and a channel. Communication derived from
businesses will have listeners that include, but are not limited to customers, employees, suppliers, and
the community (Caddy et al.). These listeners contribute to the success of a firm, which is why there is
so much emphasis put into creating appropriate channels of communication. This effect is further
amplified when dealing at an international level, where the effect of culture and time has more
bearing.
What makes effective communication important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many cultures employ a hierarchical approach to communication, but often this method of results in
important issues being dodged. This problem is highlighted in an (Nakamoto 2008) article on Japanese
companies. In the article it is reported that many of the Japanese companies employ a very rigid
communication structure, and overseas managers were hired to create a more efficient method of
communication. An open exchange or direct method of communication is much more effective as
ideas can be garnered from different levels of the organisation.
Overcoming various linguistic issues is another operational benefit experienced when an effective
communication channel is established. Due to the legal issues of each country, language differences do
not only affect face o face interaction, but written communications as well (Bovee 2008). Through
proper planning and research, however, a business is able to preempt such a problem from occurring,
possibly by arranging for an interpreter to translate.
Failing to establish an effective means for communication when an ethical issue arises can be
detrimental to the stability of a workplace. This problem is particularly pertinent, when you consider
the fact that globalization has diversified workplace cultures. This can lead to what Huntington (cited
in Eunson 2005) described as a clash of civilizations , due to the different perspectives on morality in
the western and eastern countries. Neglecting this issue can create

Homeless Man Interviews Himself? by Albert Bliss
Based on reading the article, Homeless Man Interviews Himself by Albert Bliss, I have come to the
conclusion that this is overall an example of Closed Form Writing. I firmly believe that this article
conforms to the basis of the closed form writing style but it dabbles in the open formed style of
writing. There are several examples in the essay that convince me of this.
First of all, there is a thesis in the first paragraph of the article letting the reader know what is going to
happen. The thesis was I have just finished lunch and I feel like interviewing myself. Since the
interviewer and interviewee is the same person, I have split myself in half. I call the interviewer
Mister Bliss and the interviewee Al. This lets me as the reader know that I am going to be reading an
interview. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance the article is set up a question and answer format, which guides me through the interview.
Secondly every question the interviewer asked was based off of the previous answer given by the
interviewee . By doing this the writer has given the reader a clear guide and a deeper understanding of
the essay. For example when the Mister Bliss asked Al why he felt like the homeless men he had once
spied on as an adolescent he considered heroes. Al responded with great reasoning that he felt as if
those men had reminded him of the some of the great pioneers he was learning about in school; Daniel
Boone, Davy Crockett, and Jim

Marbury Versus Madison
| | | | Marbury versus Madison Sarah McClam MARBURY VERSUS MADISON In the weeks after
John Adams lost his bid for re election to Thomas Jefferson in 1800, the Federalist Congress increased
the number of circuit courts. Adams placed Federalist judges in these new positions. One of the
justices of the peace, William Marbury, filed a writ of mandamus demanding Secretary of State James
Madison deliver the appointments. The Supreme Court led by John Marshall denied the request citing
part of the Judiciary Act of 1789 as unconstitutional. This historic court case established the concept

As part of the Revolution of 1800, President Thomas Jefferson and his Democratic Republican
followers launched a series of attacks against the Federalist controlled courts. The new Democratic
Republican controlled Congress easily eliminated most of the midnight judges by repealing the
Judiciary Act in 1802. They impeached Supreme Court justice Samuel Chase, but acquitted him
amidst inner party squabbles. The Chase acquittal coupled with Marshall s impeccably argued
decision put an end to the Jeffersonian attack (Marbury verses Madison, 1803). Some of the issues
that came up and the ruling were as followed: 1. Does Marbury have a right to the commission? Yes.
Marbury has a right to the commission. The order granting the commission takes effect when the
Executive s constitutional power of appointment has been exercised, and the power has been exercised
when the last act required from the person possessing the power has been performed. The grant of the
commission to Marbury became effective when signed by President Adams. 2. Does the law grant
Marbury a remedy? Yes. The law grants Marbury a remedy. The very essence of civil liberty certainly
consists in the right of every individual to claim the protection of the laws whenever he receives an
injury. One of the first duties of government is to afford that protection. Where a specific duty

Blueberry and Cranberry farming have been around forever. New Jersey is a great place for them to
grow because of the necessities they need to grow. New Jersey has many bogs which is where
cranberries are grown. Also the acidic soil, abundant soil moisture, and great drainage so the
blueberries get air during the growing season is naturally suited for the blueberries to grow. Iron
making was important in the 1700s and 1800s. Iron was used to create weapons and kitchen utilities
which were very important in that time. However when coal was discovered in Pennsylvania the iron
industries crumbled. Hunting, gathering and trapping have been in the Pine Barrens for 300 years. The
abundant number of animals and plants in the Pinelands give people something to hunt and gather.
Hundreds of years ago this was essential however today it is regarded as recreation.
The Pine Barrens are very important to the millions of people living in it. The Pine Barrens is very
interesting and has a rich past. The Kirkwood Cohansey aquifer is important to the people that depend
on it. The 1.3 trillion gallons supply millions of people with water. Cranberry and blueberry farming

passage, he recognizes that even though not all Christians give to the poor, it is their responsibility to
uphold this practice. In 2017, the issue of providing for the poor and less fortunate is still present

Social Education And The Competent Social Work Practitioner
Social Work Education and the Competent Social Work Practitioner
Introduction
Social work education needs to focus on teaching global issues and applying the structural and anti
oppressive principles of practice (Razack Badwell, 2006). According to Mohan (2005) stated by
Razack Badwell (2006) that the social work profession seems to be silent to teach students to achieve
adequate skills to think and act globally. This essay will be divided into five sections. The first section
will briefly describe the topic. The second section will discuss the global issues in social work
education. The third section will discuss the anti oppression approach in social work practice. The
fourth section will discuss the importance of the structural social work practice. Finally, the fourth
section will justify the thesis statement with support of the literature.
Global issues in social work education There are plenty of global issues that need to be incorporated in
social work education. Major issues in the global context are immigration, refugees, terrorism,
security, racism and gender issue. A significant number of people immigrated into Canada and the
USA due to war and poverty. However, since 9/11 the view regarding the Arabs and Muslims has
changed and increase their oppression and marginality. So, these globalization issues create
challenging moments and opportunity for the practitioner and the educators to deal with these issues
effectively (Razack Badwell, 2006).These

Effective And Ineffective Teacher Student Relationships
The purpose of this study was to analyze the research findings on effective and ineffective teacher
student relationships and the results on student achievement and behavior. Marzano discusses the
teacher s personality not necessarily pertaining to the quality of T S relationship. The teacher should
act professionally as an advocate. Marzano claims that Rather, the most effective T S relationships are
characterized by specific teacher behaviors: exhibiting appropriate levels of dominance; exhibiting
appropriate levels of cooperation; and being aware of high needs students. Dominance does not mean
force or control but rather providing a clear purpose and strong guidance to students, both
academically and behaviorally (Marzano, 2003). Teacher student relationships are also formed as a
result of how things are run and the atmosphere of a classroom, primarily routines and expectations.
Dominance is also not referring to the teacher talking the whole time with limited or no student

The Debate On Safety And Vaccinating A Child
The Debate on Safety and Vaccinating a Child In recent years, having children vaccinated has become
mandatory for many states. It is well known and common knowledge that almost every child will have
a vaccination at some point in their younger years. As a matter of a fact, in many vaccinated cases, a
child must be vaccinated before the age of 5 or entering kindergarten for the safety of the child and
others. There are a number of vaccinations children may receive under 5 years of age. Examples of
these would be Hepatitis A and B, DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis), HIB (Haemophilus

The whole MMR vaccination and Autism inspiration was first brought about by a three key points. In
the book The Everything Parent s Guide To Vaccines: Balanced, Professional Advice To Help You
Make The Best Decision For Your Child the author told what they were in a very pleasant way. It
stated The first was an observation that the number of children diagnosed with Autism increased
dramatically right around the same time the MMR combination vaccine was introduced in the United
States and Great Britain. The second was based on a study by Dr. Andrew Wakefield in 1998
Published in the respected scientific journal Lancet. The third is based on the fact that children with
Autism were first diagnosed with the condition right after they received the MMR vaccine. (Leslie
67). However, these three points didn t get a exceptional start because Dr. Wakefield was later found
not credible and his license is under legal indictment. (Leslie 69) Since Dr. Wakefield as found
uncredible it severely damaged his followers opinions, and did not help the theory that Autism and
vaccinations are linked.
Vaccinations are not something that was just invented a short time ago. In fact, they have been around
for many decades.

Animal experimentation, also known as animal research and animal testing, is an experimental
procedure in which animals are used within academic, scientific, research, biological and commercial
establishments. It is when using live animals is considered legal, protected and regulated by law,
because their ability to benefit humans is very important. Moreover, people of the world have
improved their understanding about their lives, their health, the problems related to health and how to
solve them, how to prevent them in the future by carrying out such experiments on animals. It could
be argued that scientists over the world would not have developed e.g. their knowledge about animal
behavior or probability of effects of products on humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Animal experiments are carried out in many countries, such as the United Kingdom, the United States
of America, Australia, Switzerland and Germany. However, experiments on almost 3 million animals
are carried out in the UK every year, and this is the biggest number across Europe (Kolar, 2006). That
is why, this essay will examine animal experimentation specifically in the UK and evaluate the
suffering of animals in such experiments and provide possible solutions and ways to avoid or
minimize suffering. In addition, the main questions that will be addressed in this essay are: 1) what
experiments are carried out in the UK? and Why? 2) What are the requests for the researchers to
perform such experiments in the UK? 3) How do animals suffer and in what ways? 4) How do laws
and regulations, guidelines try to limit suffering? 5) How can suffering be further limited and
minimized? In the United Kingdom, animal experiments are carried out for different purposes: they
may be scientific, medical, biological, biomedical and even commercial ones. Thus, in the UK all
experiments on animals are divided into five major fields: 1) Basic (biological) research, 2) Disease
research, 3) Drug development, 4) Regulatory testing of non medical products (toxicity), 5)
Educational purposes (Kolar, 2006). The following paragraphs will discuss more about them. Firstly,
basic research has helped scientists and researchers to increase the scientific

Multi Dimensional Factors Which Influence The Planning,...
This report aims to discuss the multi dimensional factors which influence the planning,
implementation, and the evaluation of health interventions. The first part is the discussion of the
impact of the determinant factors such as the demographic distribution of populations, the political
values, the religious beliefs, the human values, the ethnicity, and traditions in the whole process, as
mentioned above of health interventions. The next section is about the public views and attitudes on
health and the factor that can alter health state such as illness, as well as the public attitudes towards
health and medical advocates. Lastly, this report will talk the different influences of the interaction
from cultural, social, national and international policy on the planning, implementation, and
evaluation of health interventions in New Zealand.
Demographic Distribution of Populations
Rapid influx of migrants with diverse ethnicity and cultural background, with different social and
economic status, age group that varies from birth, active years, and geriatric are factors that
contributes to changes in population demographics, that has specific demands which needs special
focus and attention. More people in the societies prefer to settle now in city than in countryside areas.
The rapid rate of urbanization in growing regions test the capability of governments to effectively
design and run into the necessities of the rising numbers of city dwellers. As metropolis residents

Eulogy For America
Once we were revered and powerful. Now we are forgotten relics of the past, left to wither in the dust
of time. No longer are we feared or worshipped, with the vain hope of being spared. I am Lachesis,
measurer of the thread and this is the story of the unavoidable destruction of my sisters and I, the fates.
She spun around, there was fire, blood, and death everywhere. They had seen the army as it
approached, felt the thud of the earth from their marching. She called out for her son. There was no
escape, but she hoped for it anyway. She stumbled through the market, tripped on bodies and ignored
the wail of a babe that sat beside its mother s unmoving body. Relief bloomed in her chest, her
searching eyes found her son, he ran towards her. Her gaze swept past him and landed on us. Few
excepted what the sight of us meant, hiding even in their last moments from death. The youngest of
us, Clotho was humming almost serene, spinning thread onto its spindle. Myself measuring what she
spun to the determined length, our elder sister Atropos, cackling almost crazed, she snipped the thread
of life. Mortals they cling to life even as the inevitability of death crushes them beneath its merciless
power. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She whipped her eyes towards him, but suddenly lurched and fell to the ground. The world slowed,
she felt something warm and sticky pool around her. She had managed to turn her head in his
direction, only then seeing the enemy army that had caught up with them. One knight savaged her son
with his sword and then discarded his body. She tried to reach him, but a spear protruding from her
back weighed her down. Then she saw us again, watched as the way the enemy avoided us . She felt
cold, knowing her time had come , she looked right in my eyes as her life thread was cut. The end

Informative Essay On Notre Dame
When one thinks Notre Dame, one often thinks of college football and visions of Knute Rockne, The
Four Horsemen, Joe Montana, and Paul Hornung. Silly as it may seem, there s more to Notre Dame

elevated in status to a varsity sport. The lacrosse team were members of the Midwest Lacrosse
Association until 1994, when it joined the new the Great Western Lacrosse League which consisted of
conference members, Ohio State, Air Force, Butler, Michigan State and Denver. Notre Dame won its

Workers Rights In The 20th Century
Throughout the Twentieth Century, the evolution of workers rights in the workplace has drastically
evolved. Through the utilization of constitutional freedoms, workers across the nation came together
to support the goal of receiving fair treatment from employers when it came to wages, work
conditions, and benefits. However, this wasn t achieved without great sacrifice from the average man
as standing up for their rights was a brave act that usually resulted in consequences. During the early
stages of the Twentieth Century, the labor force was focused more on industrial jobs than agricultural
jobs as technology was evolving. About 24 million Americans ranging from 10 years and above were
employed. The number of women working in the workforce was about 19 percent as children in the
workforce was about 6 percent of the labor force. The work force was dominated by men as culture
deemed them to be superior than women. Children worked as some parents couldn t provide enough
for their families, so they sent their children off to work in dangerous conditions. As the second
industrial revolution was nearing its end, many people were employed in factories which received low
pay and dangerous conditions as the average week was 53 hours. At the start of the 20th Century, only
15 percent of people that got injured in the workplace were successful in suing their employer and
received money for the damages. This type of exposure of human labor would cause a shift in the
labor force as

Machiavell s Representation Of The Servant In Shakespeare
Shakespeare and Machiavelli are presenting servants and their masters in their plays. Servant s duties
are not presented, but by examining their servitude, it is apparent where the servants are reliable and
where it is acceptable to fire the servant. These differences are very apparent and give a clear
representation of how servants should behave and their relationships to their masters In the Sonnet 57 ,
the servant gives his or her undying love and devotion and is unquestionably obsessed with his or hers

Business Owner Of Faith Based House Call Company
Thomasson, the business owner of faith based House Call Company, chose to run his business on his
Christian principles. Leaning on the Parable of the Talents to guide his decisions of employee
responsibility, training and excellence, he also continues to strive for excellent customer service. He
believes that he should live out his faith and that means through his company, not just on a Sunday
and Wednesday when he attends church or Bible study with his group of like minded business owners.
As it pertains to both his employee and service manager Whiting and his customers it seems he is
trying to live out James 2:8 9, If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, You shall
love your neighbor as yourself, you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are
convicted by the law as transgressors (NKJV).
Given that Thomasson has rehired Whiting, there should be expectations in place that Whiting could
attain. While Whiting was falling short in regards to the goals of Thomasson, there truly wasn t
enough measurable time to see if he had really made the changes he said he had. Seeing how both
Ward and Thomasson have two differing styles of management, there is a possibility that with Ward s
involvement, Whiting would excel. And while Thomasson might think that Whiting should be out of
chances if he doesn t begin to succeed in his role as service manage, instead are there other areas
which might better suit Whiting s personality?

Persuasive Essay On Junk Food Tax
More than one in three adults in America is considered obese (Katz). Having a junk food tax will most
definitely help lower this statistic. While characterized as a negative burden, taxes are easily one of the
most important aspects in everyday life. Taxing junk foods will allow many positives such as: health
benefits, better uses with the money, and knowledge for a healthy lifestyle. Health has always been an
issue in modern American lives. With the socially accepted standards, people want change. The main
issue is food. Eating foods high in saturated fats, salt and sugar can lead to high blood pressure and
obesity, which puts people at risk of diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer
(Cobiac). With the knowledge out there, everyone should be ready for change. Following a healthy
diet will be the best option for overall well being and happiness. The single most important aspect of a
junk food tax would be the health benefits. A goal set by various groups of people is it to live a long,
healthy life. The junk food tax will eliminate one of the more detrimental factors in health problems:
eating too much. By increasing the price of products that contain sugar, taxes can get people to
consume less of them and thus improve nutrition and health (Marron). Obviously this would fall into
all categories, not just sugar. The use of taxes is very smart in the sense of persuading people not to do
something. They will not want to spend more time and money on the bad habits. This reduction would
substantially reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and related conditions (Franck).
Anyone could figure out that junk food reduction is a positive achievement in everyone s lives.
Disease reduction is what health benefits revolve around. The whole point of the tax is to reduce the
amount of diseases associated with the bad nutritional foods. In 2008, the medical costs associated
with obesity and obesity related illnesses totaled the US $147 billion in the United States (Franck).
Not only is the food terrible for health, but it is also very expensive. The cost of the diseases is quite
substantial for the United States. Ridding the world of these foods will allow

Animal Abuse Essay
Robert Gonzales, from Bakersfield, seemed like an average, ordinary man. One night however, he was
accused of splashing beach on a small dog, and wrapping the dog s mouth with duct tape. His goal
was to discipline the dog. Gonzales was caught and arrested for abusing the animal. Animal abuse is
an occurring problem in the U.S. But can be prevented if we take action. Robert Gonzales is only one
of many people to commit animal cruelty. Kevin Brunson was also accused of harming an animal. He
starved his dog, Rambo, until he weighed only fifty one pounds. A normal dog his size would weigh

A tearful apology was given by Rapuano. The judge s decision was that Rapuano didn t purposefully

Coco, a one year old puppy was set on fire. The dogs injuries were horrific he had his fur singed, was
blinded by the fire, and couldn t lie down. One year later he had to be euthanized. They still don t
know who set the dog on fire. Shortly after Coco s death a horse was shot in the head and killed. In
May, the police removed ninety cats and dogs from a home in Boiling Springs. (Cawthon 2) The
animals that survived are scared for life but some must be euthanized. Some owners don t even realize
how they are punishing their animals. Many owners over populate their house with animals it just gets
out of control. In the house of mother Faith Ross and daughter Francesca Marie Maselli 12 emaciated

Fourteen dogs and two cats were rescued from this household. Six Chihuahuas, three dachshunds, a
Yorkshire Terrier, English bulldog, a shih tzu, and a boxer. A collie mix was taken to an animal

Fort Sumter Essay
Introduction: On the twelfth of April 1861, Union troops had just taken refuge in Fort Sumter under
the cover of darkness. They were out number out gunned and running out of time. The newly formed
Confederate States of America (CSA) had now occupied the five other military installations within the
Garrison. At 0430, the first shot of the American Civil War rang out and Fort Sumter was fast under
the barrage that the surrounding garrison forts occupied by the confederate forces (sumter). Major
Anderson was reluctant to return fire, as his previous orders were not to be the aggressor. The first
shots returned in volley to the confederate forces was by a private under the Major Anderson, who
raced up to the third story of Fort Sumter where the largest artillery guns were loaded and ready to
fire. In following his lead, other soldiers in the fort also began firing on the confederate antagonists
(Civil War Journal: Destiny of Fort Sumter, 1993). Thirty four hours later Major Anderson surrendered
the fort over to General Beauregard without a single loss of life on either side of the battle. However,
death was soon to befall the soldiers of Fort Sumter. Thesis: The complete lack of organized military
and government intelligence solidified the abysmal start to the civil war. If the Union leadership
during the Buchanan administration had anticipated the treachery of the southern officers and leaders
within the federal government then they could have prevented the secession

Correlations between Creativity and Mental Illness Essay
Several scientific studies have demonstrated correlations between creativity and mental illness,
including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Even though the association between bipolar disorder
and creativity first appeared in literature in the 1970s, the idea of a link between madness and genius
is actually much older. It goes back at least to the time of Aristotle and the Ancient Greeks, when it
was believed that creativity came from the gods, and in particular the Muses, the mythical
personifications of the arts and sciences. More recently, the idea of a complete work of art emerging
without conscious thought or effort was supported in the Romantic era. beliefs on the creative

The capacity to be creative, to produce new concepts, ideas, inventions, objects or art, is perhaps the
most important attribute of the human brain. We know very little, however, about the nature of
creativity or its neural basis. Some important questions include: how should we define creativity?
How is it related (or unrelated) to high intelligence? What psychological processes or environmental
circumstance cause creative insights to occur? How is it related to conscious and unconscious
processes? What is happening at the neural level during moments of creativity? How is it related to
health or illness, and especially mental illness? The first step in studying creativity is to define what it
is. One of the first issues that must be addressed is the relationship between creativity and high
intelligence. Since the same word, genius, is often used to refer to people who are highly creative and
also to people who are highly intelligent, a common assumption is that creativity and high intelligence
are the same thing. This, however, is a misconception.
The ability to express and control our own emotions is important, but so is our ability to understand,
interpret, and respond to the emotions of others. Psychologists refer to this ability as emotional
intelligence. According to the Cambridge Dictionary online, Emotional Intelligence (EI) refers to the
ability to perceive, control and evaluate

With The Recent Election Being Highly Controversial And
With the recent election being highly controversial and contested the United States finds itself with an
incredibly volatile and inclement political climate. While the United States continues to face social
and political issues rap music and its artist have been a source to document the oppression that is still
occurring within the country. Documenting racism and oppression by using politically charged lyrics
is a method the rap community is particularly familiar. As time went on rap artists began to become
more politically informed and began to shine through their lyrics to become sources to start a national
dialogue. Rap artists like Tupac Shakur, Chuck D, Chance the Rapper, and Kendrick Lamar have been

Price: Comparison of Culture and Work The historical parallel of culture and how both received
criticisms is remarkable comparison between the two art forms. In the scholarly article, Hegemony,
Hope, and the Harlem Renaissance: Taking Hip Hop Culture Seriously author, Robert Price, offers an
excellent depiction of the similarity between the two art forms and provides the reader with several
examples of how both groups of artists had the same beginnings and culture. Price offers a
comparative analysis of the two cultures by demonstrating how both groups faced criticism from
outside sources but even faced criticism within the African American community. Price builds upon
the idea by describing the paradigm shift that both the rap artists and the protest poets had faced. Price
uses Bill Cosby as an example of a critic of the culture rap music created and truly does not believe in
the use of rap music as a political beacon to start a national dialogue for the oppression of the African
American community. After offering Cosby as an example as a critic of rap culture Price begins to
offer an analysis of a paradigm shift between the new and old generation. Price offers an example of
the paradigm shift by stating, The generational shift at work in hip hop culture as the new ideological
nexus for black culture has implications for adult educators and administrators who need to take these
cultural shifts seriously. When paradigms

Similarities Between Watergate And Watergate
On January 20, President Donald J Trump was at his inauguration looking at his crowd of followers.
While he has been accused of many things, he still has the same face he always had during his
campaign only this time as president. He won the battle against Hillary and will accomplish
everything he promised. While many just hate him, some may have noticed some similarities between
him and another controversial president. Two similarities between Watergate and Russia investigation
are that both denied all accusations from the press and focused on attacking the opposite party instead
of the real important issues. One major difference between Watergate and Russia investigation is that
in Watergate the press helped find out what was going on while in Russia investigation the press is
considered fake news by the president and many gullible people. In Watergate and the Russia
investigation, government officials and the president denied all accusations. Press secretary for Nixon
said that the break in was a third rate burglary (The Watergate Story np). President Trump criticized
people who accused him of winning unfairly in the election on his greatest weapon: Twitter. Both
Donald Trump and Richard Nixon attacked the Democratic Party. People who worked for Nixon broke
into Democratic Headquarters and Trump directly attacked Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in
every debate. Finally, Watergate was solved with the help of the press. In 2017, the press is being
attacked and

the largest number of clinical trials compared to anywhere else in the world; in total 413 trials had and

relatively low in terms of addressing the magnitude of the problem with roughly 131.5 million people
worldwide set to have AD by 2050 (Cummings, Morstorf Zhong 2014; Prince et al. 2015). Figure 3
depicts the different therapeutic pathway being focused on; with 36.5% of trials investigating the
development of symptomatic agents and 35.1% focusing on disease modifying small molecules, with
the remaining 23% focusing on immunotherapies, therapeutic devices and stem cell research.
Throughout the past decade 244 agents in the United States alone were proposed for marketing, with
only one being approved, memantine, indicating a success rate of only 0.4%, the lowest out of any
therapeutic industry. The study also identified the fail rate for each stage of clinical trials; was

  • 2. Mountains Beyond Mountains Summary Dokte Paul. the first part of the book titled Mountains Beyond Mountains, begins when author and journalist Tracy Kidder first met Dr. Farmer in Haiti. Kidder describes Dr. Farmer as a big shot Boston doctor who has chosen to do humanitarian type work in Haiti even though he could have an easy career as a lecturer back in Boston. Kidder realizes that Dr. Farmer is the atypical doctor who would rather get to know his patients as people and cares about their health holistically instead of just treating the symptoms and moving on. The next year, Dr. Farmer invites Kidder back to Haiti with him, and Kidder begins to observe Dr. Farmer at work. Kidder notices that Dr. Farmer s patients and co workers call him Dokte Paul; the word dokte is Haitian Creole for doctor. Kidder also observes the unsanitary conditions of life in the Cange region of Haiti. There, Dr. Farmer established the charity called Zamni Lasante, which is Haitian Creole for friend health. This charity not only provides low cost or free medical care, it also builds houses and schools. Dr. Farmer often uses his own money to help keep the charity going, and lives very modestly despite being a successful physician. Dr. Farmer begins educating journalist Kidder about the Haitian people, the health issues they face, and some of their superstitions. He also explains the Haitian proverb, mountains beyond mountains, which means that for every metaphorical mountain a person climbs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Thomas Malthus Section Summary Thomas Malthus Section Summary Malthus work, Essay on the Principle of Population, is often cited, first by Darwin himself, to have influenced Darwin s conception of the theory of natural selection. His work, though unpopular, and often proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the forefront many socio economic issues that are still being debated today: population control, food production and concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population. In this passage it is stated that Malthus was proven wrong: ...Malthus dire predictions have proven to be wrong... (Efficiency and Equity 211). However, though his calculations have proven to be wrong because he could not accurately account for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this sense, Malthus did not correctly identify the growth in family size as a reflexive response to economic necessity. Question Two The argument that Malthus set growth rates of food in relation to population ignored the role of food prices is accurate. In fact, by using set rates only in relation to each other, he ignored much more than food prices. In an artificial economy established in an economic lab such set ratios can be accurately predictive. However, in the natural environment, there are many external factors that would affect change on his model, and did affect change. Prices are a key oversight in his theory. While the basic premise that population growth may outstrip the growth in food productivity was true based on the circumstances within which he operated, he didn t account for the economics of food productivity to drive an increase in production worldwide that offset any local market conditions and shortages in supply. In yet another respect, the role of food prices may depress population growth in that if food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cultural Heritage Of The French Tourism Tourism in France is an important activity, both for the French who choose to spend their holidays, and foreigners who come to stay. Thus, since 1990, France became the first tourist destination in the world. The tourist attraction of France is due to the large number and wide variety of points of interest, diversity of landscapes, the rich cultural and artistic heritage, the temperate climate and ease of access and transport infrastructure, but also the important equipment in the country and varied reception facilities (hotels, amusement parks...). Thus, each department is a French tourist department with several points of interest. France has a rich well known cultural heritage, favored by many sites listed as World Heritage of UNESCO. The French tourism has many different facets and positive economic impacts and France makes every effort to maintain the liveliness of this important asset. The history of tourism in France began around 1760 in the south of France in Hyeres, becoming a common winter resort renowned among UK thanks to its relatively mild Mediterranean climate. In 1910 Alexandre Millerand, the French Minister of Public Works at the time, created the first tourism office, with the desire to promote those places that must be contemplated and visited by many. The intellectual vision that covers his entourage will then change since we will be more aware of our surroundings. We decide consciously to build tourism in these places. However, the trip is ... However, the one that I continually struggled to form a solid opinion on, and sincerely had to ponder what my decisions would be in the given situations, was the topic of end of life choices. My own personal thoughts and beliefs would conflict with my religious following, and my mind would continually change on such topics as whether or not physician assisted suicide should be legal, or whether or not I would want to keep living in a persistent vegetative state in the hope of a miracle recovery. • 7. Larynx Essay Speech production is essentially the structures along the vocal tract that work together to modify the airstream and this can be greatly affected when someone has cancer of the Larynx. Laryngeal cancer, also known as Laryngeal Carcinoma, develops as a result of malignant cells that form in the tissues of the larynx and can be potentially life threatening. The larynx is a frequent site for cancer and accounts for 3 5% of human cancers. The larynx is critical for speech so anything that affects the larynx will disrupt the natural flow of vocal communication, especially something as extreme as Laryngeal Cancer. A person who undergoes procedures and surgeries to rid these cancerous cells can often result in a loss of speech. However, a person may have the opportunity to continue living as normally as possible with the use of Esophageal Speech. Although a person has to adapt to this new method of speaking, it allows them to still express themselves with their voice, even after surgery. The Larynx is located at the trachea and at the base of the tongue, consisting of three main parts known as Supraglottis, Glottis and Subglottis which all work together to create a properly working Larynx. It separates humans from other mammals because it is responsible for voice resonance and spoken language. The larynx is essential for many other bodily functions including swallowing, phonation and respiration. However, the larynx can be broken down into two primary functions ... England paralleled an incomparable degree of political liberty with economic and social reforms, avoiding the extremes of the industrial revolution (More). However, political upheaval, wars, fluctuations in imports and exports resulted in unemployment and widespread distress. Technological improvements mobilized the factors of production, namely, land, labor and capital. • 9. Fixed Interest Rate Mortgage As a consumer planning for a home purchase, one of the major decisions that you will have to make is deciding what type of mortgage will best meet your needs. In today s mortgage market, the types of mortgages available to you can be divided into two categories, adjustable and fixed interest rate mortgages. Before discussing the benefits and pitfalls of each mortgage type, let s recap their primary differences. A fixed rate mortgage is a mortgage where the rate and the monthly mortgage payments are fixed to a specific amount for the entire life of the loan. An adjustable rate mortgage, also known as an ARM, however, is a mortgage where the rate can fluctuate throughout the life of the loan. Because the rate in an ARM can change, the monthly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The benefit of an ARM to you is that the short term interest rate on an ARM is typically lower than the interest rate of a fixed rate mortgage. For example, If you plan on staying in a home for only 5 years, a 5 Year ARM is a good idea because its interest rate will be much lower than a 30 year fixed rate loan and will cost you less. The danger of an ARM, however, is that if your plans change and you have to stay in your home for more than 5 years, the ARM s interest rate can suddenly change after the 5 year adjustment period, possibly making your monthly mortgage payment much higher and burdensome. You can use an adjustable rate mortgage calculator to experiment with worst case payments of an adjustable rate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Importance of Cross Cultural Communications Effective cross cultural communication is one of the most important issues dealt with in business, particularly when a firm operates at an international level. Communication is a process with three key elements, which includes a source, an audience, and a channel. Communication derived from businesses will have listeners that include, but are not limited to customers, employees, suppliers, and the community (Caddy et al.). These listeners contribute to the success of a firm, which is why there is so much emphasis put into creating appropriate channels of communication. This effect is further amplified when dealing at an international level, where the effect of culture and time has more bearing. What makes effective communication important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many cultures employ a hierarchical approach to communication, but often this method of results in important issues being dodged. This problem is highlighted in an (Nakamoto 2008) article on Japanese companies. In the article it is reported that many of the Japanese companies employ a very rigid communication structure, and overseas managers were hired to create a more efficient method of communication. An open exchange or direct method of communication is much more effective as ideas can be garnered from different levels of the organisation. Overcoming various linguistic issues is another operational benefit experienced when an effective communication channel is established. Due to the legal issues of each country, language differences do not only affect face o face interaction, but written communications as well (Bovee 2008). Through proper planning and research, however, a business is able to preempt such a problem from occurring, possibly by arranging for an interpreter to translate. Failing to establish an effective means for communication when an ethical issue arises can be detrimental to the stability of a workplace. This problem is particularly pertinent, when you consider the fact that globalization has diversified workplace cultures. This can lead to what Huntington (cited in Eunson 2005) described as a clash of civilizations , due to the different perspectives on morality in the western and eastern countries. Neglecting this issue can create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of The Essay Homeless Man Interviews Himself Erin Powell Rhetoric Composition 101 001 Ms. Armstead January 17, 2015 Homeless Man Interviews Himself? by Albert Bliss Based on reading the article, Homeless Man Interviews Himself by Albert Bliss, I have come to the conclusion that this is overall an example of Closed Form Writing. I firmly believe that this article conforms to the basis of the closed form writing style but it dabbles in the open formed style of writing. There are several examples in the essay that convince me of this. First of all, there is a thesis in the first paragraph of the article letting the reader know what is going to happen. The thesis was I have just finished lunch and I feel like interviewing myself. Since the interviewer and interviewee is the same person, I have split myself in half. I call the interviewer Mister Bliss and the interviewee Al. This lets me as the reader know that I am going to be reading an interview. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example when the Mister Bliss asked Al why he felt like the homeless men he had once spied on as an adolescent he considered heroes. Marbury Versus Madison | | | | Marbury versus Madison Sarah McClam MARBURY VERSUS MADISON In the weeks after John Adams lost his bid for re election to Thomas Jefferson in 1800, the Federalist Congress increased the number of circuit courts. Adams placed Federalist judges in these new positions. One of the justices of the peace, William Marbury, filed a writ of mandamus demanding Secretary of State James Madison deliver the appointments. The Supreme Court led by John Marshall denied the request citing part of the Judiciary Act of 1789 as unconstitutional. As part of the Revolution of 1800, President Thomas Jefferson and his Democratic Republican followers launched a series of attacks against the Federalist controlled courts. The new Democratic Republican controlled Congress easily eliminated most of the midnight judges by repealing the Judiciary Act in 1802. They impeached Supreme Court justice Samuel Chase, but acquitted him amidst inner party squabbles. The Chase acquittal coupled with Marshall s impeccably argued decision put an end to the Jeffersonian attack (Marbury verses Madison, 1803). Some of the issues that came up and the ruling were as followed: 1. Does Marbury have a right to the commission? Yes. Marbury has a right to the commission. The order granting the commission takes effect when the Executive s constitutional power of appointment has been exercised, and the power has been exercised when the last act required from the person possessing the power has been performed. The grant of the commission to Marbury became effective when signed by President Adams. 2. Does the law grant Marbury a remedy? Yes. The law grants Marbury a remedy. However, this wasn t achieved without great sacrifice from the average man as standing up for their rights was a brave act that usually resulted in consequences. During the early stages of the Twentieth Century, the labor force was focused more on industrial jobs than agricultural jobs as technology was evolving. About 24 million Americans ranging from 10 years and above were employed. The number of women working in the workforce was about 19 percent as children in the workforce was about 6 percent of the labor force. The work force was dominated by men as culture deemed them to be superior than women. While characterized as a negative burden, taxes are easily one of the most important aspects in everyday life. Taxing junk foods will allow many positives such as: health benefits, better uses with the money, and knowledge for a healthy lifestyle. Health has always been an issue in modern American lives. With the socially accepted standards, people want change. The main issue is food. Eating foods high in saturated fats, salt and sugar can lead to high blood pressure and obesity, which puts people at risk of diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer (Cobiac). With the knowledge out there, everyone should be ready for change. Following a healthy diet will be the best option for overall well being and happiness. The single most important aspect of a junk food tax would be the health benefits. A goal set by various groups of people is it to live a long, healthy life. The junk food tax will eliminate one of the more detrimental factors in health problems: eating too much. By increasing the price of products that contain sugar, taxes can get people to consume less of them and thus improve nutrition and health (Marron). Obviously this would fall into all categories, not just sugar. The use of taxes is very smart in the sense of persuading people not to do something. They will not want to spend more time and money on the bad habits. This reduction would substantially reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and related conditions (Franck). Anyone could figure out that junk food reduction is a positive achievement in everyone s lives. Disease reduction is what health benefits revolve around. The whole point of the tax is to reduce the amount of diseases associated with the bad nutritional foods. In 2008, the medical costs associated with obesity and obesity related illnesses totaled the US $147 billion in the United States (Franck). The first step in studying creativity is to define what it is. One of the first issues that must be addressed is the relationship between creativity and high intelligence. Price: Comparison of Culture and Work The historical parallel of culture and how both received criticisms is remarkable comparison between the two art forms. In the scholarly article, Hegemony, Hope, and the Harlem Renaissance: Taking Hip Hop Culture Seriously author, Robert Price, offers an excellent depiction of the similarity between the two art forms and provides the reader with several examples of how both groups of artists had the same beginnings and culture. Price offers a comparative analysis of the two cultures by demonstrating how both groups faced criticism from outside sources but even faced criticism within the African American community. Price builds upon the idea by describing the paradigm shift that both the rap artists and the protest poets had faced. Price uses Bill Cosby as an example of a critic of the culture rap music created and truly does not believe in the use of rap music as a political beacon to start a national dialogue for the oppression of the African American community. After offering Cosby as an example as a critic of rap culture Price begins to offer an analysis of a paradigm shift between the new and old generation.
