The Importance Of QuinceaГ±eras In Latin America
In modern society one of the most important aspects of one s life is crossing the threshold into
adulthood. So at what age, or perhaps at what stage of life, is adulthood granted? Depending on
the culture it could be decided by marriage, age, military service, or even religion. Some cultures
will have a coming of age party to celebrate becoming adult. A few of the more popular events that
you may have attended unknowingly in the past are bat mitzvahs, bar mitzvahs, and
QuinceaГ±eras. In Jewish communities men and woman are considered adults on their thirteenth
birthday, commonly known as a bar and bat mitzvah. Many families in Latin America or of Latin
American descent will have a party most commonly referred to as a QuinceaГ±era for their
daughter s fifteenth birthday to celebrate her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many African countries adolescents are isolated from their families, friends, and towns for up to
a couple months. In this time they are mentored to the ways of their society and are welcomed
back as a man. Another journey is highlighted in the movie 300. They discuss the transformation
from child to man in the ancient Greece nation state of Sparta. Boys would be taken from their
families at the age of seven to enter the Agoge system from which they not only emerged as fierce
warriors, but as adults. Some countries determine adulthood by the minimum age requirement for
child labor. Unfortunately the minimum age varies among countries. In countries such as Syria or
Bangladesh the minimum age requirement for child labor is twelve. However, in the United States
it is 15 16 years old but they must have written consent from their parents. Another popular theory
for being considered an adult is the legal voting age. In most countries the legal age is 18,
including the United States. In Italy, however, you cannot vote for a senator until age

TITLE OF PAPER Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism are religions that developed in the East.
Although each of these religions possess characteristics unique to itself, they share one thing in
common in that they are all religions. Their classification as religions depend on the definition of
the word: religion. Webster s Dictionary defines religion as The outward act or form by which
men indicate their recognition of the existence of a god or of gods having power over their
destiny, to whom obedience, service, and honor are due. Frederick Streng s attempt to define
religion as, a process whereby people reach beyond themselves to connect with the true and ... Show

Buddhists certainly recognize the existence of gods, and they practice many outward acts and
forms to show this. Buddhists show their obedience, service, and honor to the Buddha, who is not a
god, by memorizing and preaching his teachings, praying to him, dedicating temples and rituals to
him, and making offerings to him. This is Webster s lone strong point in its definition of religion
regarding Buddhism, and it fails to hold true. The Gautama Buddha claimed that people should
not worship him, because he is now in Nirvana gone from existence. Therefore, there is no true
obedience, service, or honor that is due to the Buddha or any god in Buddhism, because they
have no power over one s destiny. If one were to exclude having power over their destiny, to
whom obedience, service, and honor are due from Webster s definition, then perhaps Buddhism
could be a religion according to Webster. This is certainly not the case in Buddhism. Gods do not
hold any power over any being s destiny outside of their own. The good or bad karma a being
generates is the destiny one constructs for itself. These myopic flaws of Webster s definition are
impossible to ignore; based on its definition, Buddhism would not be a religion, and its definition
would relegates Buddhism to nothing more than practices that appear to be religious but are

History Of General William Sherman
General William Sherman was in charge of the Union Army of the West. Under General Sherman,
the Union essentially tore through the deep south and the southeastern seaboard, destroying any
factories, warehouses or farmland that was used to supply Southern troops. His use of total warfare
absolutely decimated the South. I believe Sherman s March to the Sea was the most important
event we ve covered this trimester, because it purged the South of any supplies and destroyed their
economy. After Ulysses S. Grantwas promoted to the head of the Union Army, he appointed
William Sherman to his former post; general of the Union Army of the West. He was given the task
of taking the city of Atlanta, Georgia, to destroy the factories that supplied the

Jacques Louis David Essay
David was the virtual art dictator of France for a generation. Extending beyond painting, his
influence determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was
reflected in the development of moral philosophy. His art was a sudden and decisive break with
tradition, and from this break modern artis dated.
David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four
times, causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. His
pursuit of the antique, nurtured by his time in Rome, directed the classical revival in French art. He
borrowed classical forms and motifs, predominantly from sculpture, to illustrate a sense of virtue he

During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most
distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured
models, he allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such
as Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are
enormously vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible.
Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748.
In 1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed.
He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the
instructors chair, drawing for the duration of the class .
When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter
J. M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on
the ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired
work of the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. David quickly evolved his own individual
neoclassical style, drawing subject matter from ancient sources and basing form and gesture on
Roman sculpture. His famous Oath of the Horatii was consciously intended as a proclamation of the
new neoclassical style in which

Global Warming and The San Francisco Bay
Do you think the San Francisco Bay would not be affected by climate change of global
warming? The short answer is no. Scientists believe that in the future that the sea level of the
San Francisco Bay will rise and flood several of the San Francisco Bay Area s populated areas and
landmarks such as the San Francisco and Oakland International Airport. How could we prevent or
slow down the bay from taking over our landmarks and populated areas? Around 10,000 years ago
the San Francisco Baywas once not a bay. The glaciers from the ice age melted into water and then
the water flowed into canyons to form into the San Francisco Bay. However the flowing of the
bay may not have stopped. The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission
predicts that the sea level will increase so much the sea will take over and flood populated areas
and landmarks like the San Francisco and the Oakland International Airports. We could recover
from natural disasters like earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes, but not sea level rising. The
New York Daily News say that it would take only 12 feet for the ocean to rise and take over several
landmarks and populated areas in the San Francisco Bay Areaand another landmark could be San
Francisco Giants AT T Park. My project is to solve San Francisco Bay s rising sea level problems
by slowing it down and have little consequences to the ocean environment as possible. The project
has three objectives that could solve San Francisco Bay s sea

Victoria s Secret TNC
How Victoria s Secret Became a TNC
TNC s or Trans National Corporations are companies, or entities, that conduct operations vital to
their success, in two or more countries (Richet, Delteil, Dieuaid, 2014). The growth of TNC s
became possible with the expansion of the free market economy as well as the growth and
advancement of technology and the Internet. Globalization has also contributed to the rise of these
entities, which are sometimes also known as Multi National Corporations or MNC s (Richet,
Delteil, Dieuaid, 2014). Victoria s Secret is one of these entities. The company, with operations in

These methods have incorporated both Foreign Direct Investment as well as Outsourcing. The
company has also employed mergers and acquisitions. One prime example of acquisition as a
global expansions strategy presents itself with the acquisition of Victoria s Secret by the Limited
Brands Inc. Company. This acquisition is what has enabled the company to expand itself and
transform into a Trans National Company. Another example of acquisition is in the way the
company entered the Canadian market. In 2007 as it was preparing to enter the market in
Canada, Victoria s Secret acquired a lingerie company in Canada known as La Senza. This both
gave it a presence in the Canadian market and helped to eliminate competition. Another way in
which it has expanded is through Foreign Direct Investment, and this is represented by the
company s ownership and presence in various countries the world over. The company has stores
and boutiques in the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Israel, and China. In addition to
these countries, it has international franchise outlets in Venezuela and Colombia as well as in
Puerto Rico. In the Middle East, the brand is represented in Kuwait trough a franchise held by
M.H. Alshaya Co. This same company operates the franchise in Poland. In terms of outsourcing,
the company has participated in various ways. For example, the firm has outsourced a large part of

How can community health nurses apply the strategies of cultural competence to their
practice?
A nurse can be a part of helping a patient s cultural preservation in their practice. For
example, some people in the Jamaican culture hold nine day wakes for deceased persons.
The wake is a time for respecting and honoring the departed soul. For nine nights, relatives
and friends share food and sing hymns, thus saying goodbye to the departed one (). A nurse

Smith Vs Marx
On the other hand, in complete opposition, and with a philosophy that coincides with my own, is
that of Smith. According to Smith s socio economic views a free society is entirely able to
coexist with Capitalism. Smith believes that essentially free, lassez faires market equates into a
free unrestricted society, wherein individual desire and drive is allowed to prosper and flourish.
Unlike Marx, Smith does not view the capitalist mode of production, as a restricting process.
Smith incorporates a Trickle down notion into his socio economical philosophy. This Trickle down
notion is effectively the acceptance that despite private owners of industry, capitalising on low
labor wages and maximising a surplus value, there will be a general... Show more content on

And in actual fact Smith believes that the human nature will automatically dictate actions, for
instance a human will subconsciously strive to generate wealth not just for himself but for the
majority. Where Marx see s exploitation and manipulation as a characteristic of man kind,
Smith see s man as an inherently good, a view that I also share. Capitalism is capable of co
existing with a free society, because Smith s view is that man helps man and does not need legal
constraints to prevent exploitation. Personally I find this view much more inviting than that of
Marx, which needs constraints from human nature for a free society. In a capitalist society from
Smith s stance successful business is positive not just for the minority, but also for the working
class, because business creates jobs. Although man may strive for individual success it also
benefits the general population. The Theory of Moral Sentiments Smith says: By acting
according to the dictates of our moral faculties, we necessarily pursue the most effective means
for promoting the happiness of mankind. When approaching Smiths stance on the Labor Theory
of Value, we see just how much it differs from Marx. Whereas Marx focuses on the importance of
being immersed in labor and making work much more of an art form, Smith views work
relations absent of emotion. What is meant by this is that Smith believes that the division of
labor leads to a far more cost effective and successful mode of production and due to the profits
made lead to more affordable commodities. a man grows rich by employing a multitude of
manufacturers; he grows poor by maintaining a multitude of menial servants. . This displays
Smiths approach that by employing people the owner is serving more than just himself. What is
meant by this is that the labour put in by a worker adds to the value of the product. However if the

Essay on Gun Control Rights
One of many controversial topics in the United States is gun control. It is clearly written in the
Second Amendment of the Constitution that the people will have the right to bear arms. Recently;
however, people have been misusing those firearms and have been harming others with them. The
government is trying to regulate the sale, distribution, and ownership of guns because of this
reason. Some of the arguments being made by the politicians is simply if the government has the
right to be able to control, and if it does, the effectiveness of the public policy to regulate guns.
The importance of gun control as a health issue is a necessity. Each year, the United States has a
bit over 8,000 murders with firearms (Wilblin 1) The US... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also prohibits the ammunition feeding devices for these semiautomatic weapons. (Fienstein 1).
With this being said, the FAWB is an act that supports gun control instead of bearing arms. The
Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not
be infringed. The constitution is clearly saying all citizens have the right to be able to own and
carry a weapon or firearm. On June 26, 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, the United States
Supreme Court held in a 5 4 decision that the Second Amendment protects an individual s right to
possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense within the home and
within federal enclaves (Cornell 1). This is showing how our founding fathers supported the right
to bear arms. Ownership of certain weapons should be prohibited. Assault rifles and submachine
guns are firearms that are never necessary. The United States should set a goal to having fewer
high power weapons available. However, the only situation to these firearms being more acceptable
to use than others, are the warlike scenarios. The thought of submachine guns and assault rifles
being necessary is sickening. What would be the purpose of owning an assault rifle or submachine
guns? Gun bearers

Mercutio as Catalyst in Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet
Mercutio as Catalyst in Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet
In Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet, the quick witted character Mercutio is a notorious scene
stealer (Utterback 105). Mercutio s major function in the play is to be a catalyst for the plot.
Mercutio s purpose as a character is most significantly revealed in his relationship with Romeo, his
baiting of Tybalt, and his death. More importantly, Mercutio functions as the catalyst for the pattern
of disasters in the play that follows his own tragic death, making him, as described by critic Stephen
Greenblatt a spirit that seems to challenge the very possibility of romantic love or tragic destiny
(856).
Mercutio s role in the play is directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mercutio urges Romeo to end his romantic relationships. Mercutio tells Romeo If thou are dun
we ll draw thee from the mire / Of save your reverence love, wherein though stickest / Up to the
ears (I.iv.41 43). Mercutio scorns the romantic love and relationships that weaken their
friendship. Mercutio s bawdry and scorn are seen as especially ill mannered because he
expresses it in an age celebrating domesticity and middle class marriage (Porter 34). The
connection of Mercutio s name to the misogynistic god Mercury supports his view of love and
relationships (Porter 38). Mercutio s Mercurian message is that Romeo should stay with, or come
back to, the world of male comradeship (Porter 107).
Furthermore, Mercury was a troublesome, quick to anger, and swift messenger. Likewise,
Mercutio is hot headed and quick to act. Mercutio s need for action and his ridiculing nature are
also seen in his aggressive baiting of Tybalt. At first, Mercutio seems almost excited to see
Romeo fight Tybalt in Act Three, Scene One. And but one word with one of us? Couple it with
/ something; make it a word and a blow (III.i.35 36). However, Romeo does not give in to Tybalt
s insults and does not accept Tybalt s challenge to fight. The passive Romeo instead wants love and
peace with Tybalt because of his love for Juliet.

The Pros And Cons Of Military Technology
Conclusion
It is common knowledge within the tech community that some commercial technology lags at least
a decade behind new military technology. The lag time will allow for an adjustment period to help
facilitate the acceptance from the public on a mass scale.
The merging does not have to be at the extremes of what is demonstrated on television shows such
as Star Trek, and there will be those who stand against the changes due to religious and
philosophical beliefs. Nevertheless, those who embrace the newfound world will outnumber those
who do not. Just as people rush to get the newest iPhone or tech gadget, they will slowly integrate
new hybrid technology into their lives. It will be only a matter of time until all humans assimilate
into a future where man and machine co exist as one organism thus breaking the biological barriers
that have constrained human evolution thus far. A.I Summoning the Demon illustrates the
consequences of creating advanced artificially intelligent machines and discusses possible solutions
to the problem. The importance of regulations is discussed along with the need for the human race
to become a hybrid species. These solutions together will ensure the longevity of the human species
well into the next millennium.

The Effect Of Variation At Transcription Factor Binding...
This research paper is about analysis of variation at transcription factor binding sites in Drosophila
and humans. This analysis is done in order to investigate the transcription factor binding sites
(TFBS) variability with the comparison of ready published data of transcription factor binding maps
for Drosophila isogenic lines and human individuals. In this paper it is very important to understand
the concept of population genetics. Population genetics explains the study and research of
distributions and modifications of allele frequency in a population. It further states that there are
actually four evolutionary processes such as; selection, genetic drift, mutation and gene flow.
It is important to describe an analysis of the relationship for exploration of intra species variation
and it has been seen that variation in DNA regulatory elements are common and a fraction of it
directly falls at TFBSs. 12 Drosophila species have been analyzed in order to see the sequence
variation at each motif position and the results showed that motifs are conserved and depressed
level of variation has been shown across individuals. It is observed that, an introduction of
transcription factor binding variability, which has been taken into account transforms itself in a sort
of motif match related to mutation and enables the researchers to investigate and make it possible
to analyze TFBS related hurdles and operational constraints which shares medical or related
biological attributes.

In A Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beach was joined the rebel to avenge the deaths of (my) family

Holden Claufied a Misfit in Society
Is Holden Claufield a misfit in societyI do think that Holden Claufield is a misfit in society. It
doesn t seem like that is society fault that he is, its just the type of person that he is. He describes
everyone around him as them being a phony as he likes to describe it.
The way Holden cant fit into the society around has drove him to hate it, instead of him coming
to realize this he just judges other people on the fakeness and dishonesty. Holden even thinks that
his own school is hypocritical because they don t really follow there own motto which is molds
boys into upright, respected members of society , in his eyes the guys in his school don t change

It is pretty clear that Holden was badly hurt by the loss and disappointed by the grief that
overcame him. He found himself talking out loud to Allie in attempts to find comfort, he did it
a lot when he was suicidal. Between Holden s hypercritical views on others and his effort to push
himself out of reality, he became lonesome and hoped for companionship. Insecurity controlled
Holden s mind, he began believing that others wouldn t accept him for who he was and felt he
had to keep up appearances by lying to others. But all of this stopped him from getting what he
wanted most which was approval and to be understood. Holden Caulfied has cynical, sceptical,
and even unsociable views of the world around him. He resents the power society had over people,
how it can easily change an innocent child into someone snobbish. He despises how a person s will
is not strong enough to stand against society s power. However, he is just as fault as everyone else.
In the end, Holden has not yet noticed his hypocrisy because he still refuses to admit that this is
how the cycle of life is and that one cannot question it, but only embrace

Conflict In Religious Conflict
The thesis states that women, minority and children are victimized in the name of religion during
religious wars and riots. It further explores the impact of violence unleashed in the name of
religion on the religious minority, women and children. The main objective of the thesis is to
comprehend the complexity of human behavior during war and religious conflict as portrayed in
the select contemporary novels and draw conclusions. The problem this thesis focuses on is the
recurrent religious animosity and power mongering from the past to the present, and how it is dealt
with in the contemporary novels. All the novels taken for study are from the developing countries.

Inter religious conflict occurs between different religious groups whereas intra religious conflict
occurs within a particular religious group. Intra religious conflicts are common in almost all the
major religions of the world. The conflict between the Catholicism and Protestantism in
Christianity; Shia and Sunni in Islam; Hinayana, Theravada and Mahayana in Buddhism;
Digambara and Swetambara in Jainism; Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Saktism and Smartism in
Hinduism are a few in this regard. They fight with each other claiming that only their belief is

Contract Creation and Management
Contract Creation and Manage Law 531 Contract Creation and Management After completion of

Reflexes Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter six is about learning and the different ways we learn to do things. Instinct and reflexes
are things we are naturally born with. They are not something we learn as we get older. That s
how babies know how to suckle on their mother s breast and how baby sea turtles know how to
find the ocean and swim to it. Reflexes is a person s ability to respond quickly without conscious
thought while instinct is a fixed pattern of behavior in animals in response to certain events. Both
of these behaviors helps organisms adapt to its environment. While these two behaviors are natural
for organisms learningis something that changes your behavior or knowledge through experience.

In his experiments with dogs, Pavlov implanted tubes inside of dogs cheeks to measure how
much saliva the dogs produced in response to various foods. Over a period of time, he began to
notice that the dogs began to salivate at the sight of food, empty food bowl, and at the sound of
the laboratory assistants footsteps. Since salivating to food in the mouth is a reflexive and
salivating at the sight of an empty food bowl is not this intrigued Pavlov. He conducted a lot of
controlled experiments and he was then able to train the dogs to salivate to things that had nothing
to do with food, like the sound of the bell. He came to the conclusion that organisms had two types
of responses to its environment: unconditioned responses and conditioned responses. In Pavlov s
experiments, everytime meat powder was presented to the dogs they would salivate. The meat
powder was an unconditioned stimulus, which is an event that draws out a reflexive response in an
organism. The dog s salivation was an unconditioned response, which is a natural reaction to an
event. Next Pavlov would sound a tone and then give the dogs the meat powder. The tone was a
neutral stimulus, which is something that does not usually draw out a response. The dogs would
not salivate to the sound of the tone. But when Pavlov would pair the tone with the meat powder
repeatedly, the tone began to draw out salivation from the dogs. So the neutral stimulus became the
conditioned stimulus an event that causes a response being repeatedly paired with an
unconditioned stimulus. And then later on the dogs began to salivate to the sound of the tone

Research Paper on Hurricane Wilma
Hurricane Wilma
November 24, 2015
Geology 1401
Introducion: Cyclones, Hurricanes, and Typhoons, these cyclonic storms are known by many
names but are all born from the same mechanism: low pressure systems. Also known as
depressions. Thankfully, most hurricanes form only during hurricane season, which is from June
1st to November 30th. Within this season about 85 percent of the most intense hurricanes and 60
percent of minor Atlantic tropical storms and hurricanes originate from African easterly waves
(NOAA Cyclone Report). These waves, which have a wavelength of 2000 to 2500 kilo meters,
originate close to or from the highlands of Ethiopia, Africa. Not all easterly waves become

hurricanes. Granted, after 3 days the accuracy of these forecasts declines but they do serve as very

Hurricane Wilma On the evening of October 15, 2005 tropical depression number 24 appeared in
Atlantic Ocean, its winds at a mere 35 kilo meters per hour, pressure of about 1004 mb and
heading West at a pace of 5 kilo meters per hour. In the next few hours, the winds of depression
number 24 gradually increased to 45 km/h and on the morning of October 16, it had reached
speeds of 55 km/h. On the 17nth of October this depression developed into tropical storm Wilma ,
with wind speeds at about 65 km/h and an internal pressure of 1000 mb. At about 10 A.M the
Yucatan Peninsula was issued a warning, alerting them of the possible dangers from Wilma.
Following an erratic pattern of movement, experts were not sure where Wilma was headed. On
the morning of October 18 Wilma was about 810 km from Punta Allen, Mexico. Wilma once
again intensified reaching speeds of 120 km/h, by the end of the day it was officially a category
II hurricane at 175 km/h. On the 19nth at 4 A.M, about 595 km from Punta Allen, Mexico
hurricane Wilma quickly reached wind speeds of 280 km and pression levels of 980 mb, at these
speeds Wilma was now classified as a category V. The rate at which

Common Cold Myth
There is a common belief among many in the United States that taking mega doses of vitamin C
will cure, prevent or reduce the symptoms of the common cold. Many Americans accept this idea
as fact on its face without knowing the origins or the results of many medical science journals.
The fact is that to this date there is very little evidence to substantiate the claim that taking mega
doses of vitamin C will prevent or cure the common cold. There is some evidence that vitamin C
will reduce symptoms of a cold in very specific circumstances for some people, but it is unlikely
more than a small percentage of American s fall into these categories. If the American people read
what the latest medical science journals have found on the efficacy of Vitamin C they would
probably not be as quick to part with the billions of dollars they currently spend every year on

In 1970 chemist and Nobel laurite Linus Pauling wrote a book called Vitamin C and the
Common Cold. The book was well received by the general public as it was written more for
public consumption than scientific literature. Not long after the book s publication the vitamin
industry began to take off due to a number of bills that prevented FDA regulation (theweek.com)
continuing to increase its sales year after year into the 2000 s(cnn.com). Lianus based his claim
on the fact that humans are one of the few animals in the animal kingdom that do not produce
vitamin C in their own bodies, and since we have shift from a plant based diet to a more meat
centered diet we lack the large amounts of vitamin C our species used to consume. While there is
a large and growing body of evidence supporting the health benefits of plant based diets over meat
based and process food diets, the claim that vitamin C is the primary beneficial component of this
diet is unsubstantiated.

Parent Support Groups Can Reduce Child Abuse Essay
Many parents lack the skills necessary to properly teach and discipline their children. As a result,
out of pure frustration, parents lash out physically and/or verbally. Hitting a child or yelling at
one has detrimental long term effects. Parents to be need to be given strategies for dealing with
discipline issues. Support groups should also offer parent training. When parents have had a hard
day, whether due to work, family, or other persons or events, they tend to lash out without a
thought at the misbehaving child. The parent lets his or her anger build up, unable to release it
toward the appropriate situation he or she is actually frustrated with. It s so easy to get caught up
in their moment of frenzy. It s hard to stand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is it is not illegal for children to endure this type of punishment. Even more
unbelievable, priests say that the bible even promotes it. One priest, Reverend Ronald E.
Williams, says that a parent should use a wooden paddle and any unwillingness to use physical
correction is child abuse . The bible can also be used to vindicate slavery, suppression of women,
polygamy, incest, and infanticide (The Humanist 2000). While all these inhumane actions are
illegal, why then is it appropriate to abuse a child out of anger or frustration. Unbeknownst to
most parents, hitting or yelling at a child has pernicious effects throughout that child s lifetime.
Once a child is hit so many times, hitting becomes a learned behavior that will follow him or her
from school days where they get into fights, into marriage, where they will possibly hit their
spouse, and eventually will lead into parenthood and become a form of discipline to their
children. The New York Post says that research indicates that when a child is spanked it could
result in sexualized behavior and/or sexual deviancy. When a parent yells at a child, he teaches that
child that it is an appropriate outlet for the child s frustrations. Hitting or yelling will also result in
worse behaviors

The Lewis s Place As A Twentieth Century Writer
C.S Lewis s Place as a Twentieth Century Writer During the 100 years between the year 1901
and the year 2000 C.S Lewis was not only able to inspire the Christians of his time, but he was
able to cause social change by addressing the issues of his time through literature. As seen in many
of his works, such as The Abolition of Man, The Problem of Pain, and, The Chronicles of Narnia,
Lewis used to the influence he had over his readers to advocate for the important problems with
society during the 20th century. This included, the quality of education in schools, evangelical
teaching, and children s books. His original and imaginative way of writing has caused him to
become one of the most well known and acknowledged writers of the 20th century. The immense
influence he has brought to the 20th century has even been extended past the time in which he
first wrote his classic works. He can easily be classified as one of the most important Christian
writers of the 20th century and is also included at the top of the list of 20th century authors. His
literary contribution to the world and to those who have read his books cause inspiration and
knowledge to spread widely and provide a great asset to those from the 20th century up until the

Voltaire, Denis Diderot, And Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The Enlightenment was a period of mass introduction of new ideas, high in intellect, for the
purpose of social growth. People s views on issues were greatly influenced by the philosophes of
that time. People started believing that all men were equal, and thus deserved equal treatment.
Some of the philosophes who greatly influenced this period were Voltaire, Denis Diderot, and Jean
Jacques Rousseau. These men were critical thinkers who analyzed how society was run, and
proposed better ways in which the world could operate. Though these men were high on intellect,
they had similar world changing views, and all believed that man was free and this freedom should

authority and status quo. He said No man has received from nature the right to command his

very famous quotes like: Power acquired by violence is only usurpation, and lasts only as long
as the force of him who commands prevails over that of those who obey, and Man will never be

doctrine that stated the right of a prince to hold power over others because it was God s will. His

institutions. He urged people to liberate themselves through reason. His views were in line with

world wide. Technology has even helped the unemployment rate by creating new jobs that
wouldn t have been around twenty years ago. Overall, technology is a helpful tool that is used to
advance our knowledge of the world we live in. However, technology can also be used for wrong
doing. One example of how technology can be used for wrong doing comes in the form of identity
theft. According to Merriam Webster, identity theft is the illegal use of someone s personal
identifying information in order to get money or credit. For example, in modern day America,
companies are putting the personal information of their customers in the cloud, a data server that is

Thankfully, President Obama is determined to strengthen cyber security, and so he has introduced a
series of proposals designed to aid the fight against identity theft. Firstly, Obama wants companies
to share information with the government, in order to help the companies scan their servers for

The Invasion Of The Vietnam War
Firstly, the invasion of the Vietnam War cannot be justified when the US s ally in the war is a
corrupt democracy. When the Vietnam War began the United States puppet state was Ngo Dinh
Diem s South Vietnam. Diem was a dictator or the President supposedly of South Vietnam that
took power for himself there, and threw all of his civil and political opponents into violent
concentration camps. The South Vietnamese President had also oppressed those of different
religions specifically Buddhism ( NGO DINH DIEM, FIRST PRESIDENT OF SOUTH VIETNAM
. ). Eventually, the Viet Cong who would rather support a communist regime formed due to the
oppressive nature of Diem s ruthless democracy. By the time North Vietnamsought to unify the
country Diem had opposition from all perspectives, including his most trusted peers. Even with his
mockery of a democracy, the United Statesbelieved it had to support his efforts in the defense of
democracy in South Vietnam. The United States did want a change of power, but were willing to
continue with Diem if deemed necessary to win. Benjamin Frankel states this by stating advised the
State Department that the United States should begin to search for an alternative to Diem. On 1
November 1963 South Vietnamese military officers overthrew Diem, and he and his brother were
shot to death ( Vietnam War: Was U.S. Military Intervention in Vietnam Justified? ). Democracy is

Architect Louis Sullivan s Views On Architecture
Since the dawn of Modern Architecture, the use of ornamentations on structures has been
questioned for its purpose. Many buildings, from Greek or Roman temples, to our modern day
skyscraper can be recognized as having ornamentation. Mass and proportion have been cited as
being the priority of a design. Architect Louis Sullivanbelieves ornamentation should have a
purpose and be integrated the relationship of the building s structure. The Hollyhock House s
harmonious use of ornamentation does not distract from the mass and proportions of the building
and therefore aligns with Architect Louis Sullivan s views on ornaments in architecture. Before
finding out what Louis Sullivan s views were, we must look at why his theory would be able to
hold such weight. Born on September 3, 1856 in Boston Massachusetts, Louis Sullivan was
considered by many to be one of the fathers of modern architecturein America (Louis Sullivan).
Sullivan began his career as an architect when he partnered with Architect Dankmar Adler,
producing 100 building collaborations in their 14 year partnership (Louis Sullivan). Chicago was
seen as the proving grounds for an era of architecture we now call Modern Architecture. Sullivan
helped lead this era with his involvement in the architecture group called Chicago School. This
group of architects were pushing the envelope on what is possible to be created with modern
materials (Chicago). They paved the way for the development of skyscrapers with the

much about this tree was the class I took at my connunity college. It was a biology course where we
explored nature and learned different types of trees. While in this course, my teacher taught us one
very crucial concept that I never took much thought on. It was trouble involved in transferring

resources. The example she gave was the movement of phosphorus to farmlands that causes run off.
Thereby, it is causing damn to streams and the organisms that live in them. I believe the
combination of learning about different trees and the concept not to remove anything from its local

Even though that might not be the case, in my opinion it was.
I sure that there are a lot more context factors that may have led to me caring about this stumps
but they are not in clear view for me. Nevertheless, if stump removal became more of a popular

police administration amid this decade. In the previous couple of years, it has turned out to be in
vogue for police offices to start community policing, frequently with little thought of what that
expression implies. In reality, all way of hierarchical tinkering has been marked group policing.
However, people group policing is not a program.
Rather, people community policing is an esteem framework which saturates a police office, in
which the essential hierarchical objective is working helpfully with individual natives, gatherings
of nationals, and both open and private associations to recognize and resolve issues which possibly
impact the reasonableness of particular neighborhoods, ranges, or the city overall. Community
based police offices perceive the way that the police can t viably manage such issues alone, and
must join forces with other people

Fatigue Contributed And A Serious Medication Error
Fatigue contributed to a serious medication error in Wisconsin. After working a 16 hour shift, a
labor/delivery nurse came in the next morning to work another shift. Because she d had only a few
hours off between shifts, she d arranged to sleep at the hospital. Late in the morning of the second
day, she admitted a young patient. The physician had ordered an antibiotic to be given right away.
The nursepicked up what she thought was the antibiotic and hung it without scanning the patient or
the medication. Tragically, the drug she actually gave wasn t the antibiotic but bupivacaine
fentanyl, an epidural anesthetic. The patient died within an hour. Initially, the nurse was charged
with felony neglect of a patient causing great bodily harm, but pled guilty to the misdemeanor of
dispensing and illegally obtaining a prescription. Her nursing license was suspended for 9
months and she was barred from working in an obstetric or critical care area or working any
shift longer than 12 hours (American Nurse Today 25). For the past 15 years many people have
devoted their time and effort into the great debate centered around eight versus 12 hour nursing
shifts. Twelve hour shifts date back to the 1970s when they were used as a means of holding onto
staff during the national nursing crisis, and have continued to gain popularity ever since. This
crisis, due to the shortage of nurses, was the result of, the growing population across the USA after
World War II . . . and shortages in the

Fahrenheit 451 Quotes Fire
It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and
changed (Bradbury 3). Towards the beginning of the novel it is noticeable that fire is praised by
the protagonist and those who choose to conform to society s rules. In this quote in particular,
fire is being used as a tool against literature. The books are being demolished. However, fire is
used with intentions to be positive. Almost in a way that the fire is doing society a favor by
getting rid of the vast knowledge in the books. From what is to come, this concept is only half of
the value of fire. As the novel unravels it is evident that it could be both good and bad. 2. One
time, as a child, in a power failure, his mother had found... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous to this quote the general view consisted of destruction and violence. However, now it
is being perpetuated as a growing flower. One that is sprouting and demonstrating its inner
beauty. 8. You must remember, burn them or they ll burn you, he thought. Right now it is as
simple as that (Bradbury 123). This excerpt demonstrates Montag s mindset of every man for
themselves . He knows those of law enforcement are after him as he had fled the city as a wanted
criminal. Fire is his new tool for survival, without it he is left hopeless. He knows his enemies are
after him and he must use fire before they force it upon him. This excerpt does not explain a
specific topic and it is rather broad but it reveals his loneliness due to his actions to explore the
world of literature. 9. And what lights the sun? Its own fire. And the sun goes on, day after day,
burning and burning. The sun and time. The sun and time burning. Burning...and a short time of
floating in the river he knew why he must never burn again (Bradbury

Absorbration Of Molarity Lab
Lab Report 1
Introduction:
The experiment was about creating solutions of standard molarity and measuring concentrations.
Solutions were made up of two parts, the solute and the solvent. The solvent was the dissolving
substance and the solute was the substance being dissolved. Concentrations are based on how
much solute is in a solvent, and is reported by the units of molarity. Molarity is calculated by
diving the number of moles in the solute by the volume (in liters) of the complete solution. A
process called dilution is used to decrease the concentration of a solution, it involves increasing the
amount of solvent. In this experiment, an instrument called a spectrophotometer was used. The
function that the spectrophotometer has is that it measures the amount of light that ... Show more

The measurements that it reads are the absorbance and the transmittance. Absorbance is the
amount of light that is absorbed by the solution, while transmittance is the amount of light that
passes through the solution. The solute that was used in the experiment was Copper (II) Sulfate,
which has a pale blue color. Since the Copper (II) Sulfate is blue in color, it will absorb light in
the orange range of the light spectrum, and so 600nm is the adequate wavelength to measure the
transmittance. A direct relationship between the amount of light absorbed by the solute and the
concentration of the sample substance was established by the Beer Lambert Law. The Beer
Lambert law is also able to provide a calibration plot that is used to find the concentration of a
solution based on the absorbance of that same solution. With this, the purpose of the experiment is
to be able to use these tools and knowledge to be able to identify concentration, transmittance, and
absorbance of a solution as well as be able to create solutions manually and

Essay on Odysseus as Pawn of the Gods in Homer s Odyssey
Odysseus as Pawn of the Gods in The Odyssey
Throughout literature characters have relied upon entities greater then themselves to furnish them
with aid as they meet the many challenges they must face. The Odyssey is a tale of Odysseus epic
journey and the many obstacles that bar his return home. But Odysseus is not alone in this struggle
and receives aid from many gods, especially the clear eyed goddess Athena. There are times when
Odysseus beseeches the gods for aid, but other times he is too foolhardy to receive aid from even
the immortal gods. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseus journey revolves around the cyclical phases
of his dependence, independence and his return to reliance upon the gods aid.
While with Calypso ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The clear eyed goddess Athena herself tells Telemachus that ...not unbefriended of the gods have
you been born and bred (19). Her reference highlights Telemachus greatest inheritance, which is the
aid of the immortal gods. Even Nestor, a mortal, notes the aid which Telemachus receives from the
gods, and marvels that Telemachus must be truly favored ...if when so young the gods become
[his] guides (26). Such qualities in Telemachus constantly remind the reader of the dependence on
the gods aid Odysseus has developed in his travels.
Though Odysseus is as great a man as ever lived, he is still only mortal and at the gods mercy.
Odysseus does not control his own destiny, but instead the gods determine what shall befall him
and whether he shall ever reach his home. Odysseus is only a man and hard is a god for mortal
man to master (36) even if he is great amongst his brethren. Odysseus can not control the gods
anymore then he can control his fate and so he is left at their mercy. Even Zeus, who gives
Odysseus many signs, will sometimes deal Odysseus woe which he is powerless to stop. To
avenge the Sun god upon Odysseus evil crew, ...Zeus with a gleaming bolt smote [Odysseus ]
swift ship and wrecked it in the middle of the wine dark sea (47). Such acts illustrate the control
that the gods exercise over Odysseus and his inability to deliver himself from woe.
As Odysseus begins his journey

The DSM-5 Diagnostic Analysis
While the DSM 5 remains largely based on categorical nosology, the introduction acknowledges
the need for a more dimensional approach (APA, 2013). In fact, the DSM 5 task force and work
groups were instructed to consider empirically based guidelines to improve dimensional aspects of
disorder categorization such as: shared neural substrates, biomarkers, family traits, course of illness,
high comorbidity, genetic risk factors, and shared treatment response. While the DSM 5 task force
ultimately decided that it was scientifically premature to transition to a completely dimensional
diagnostic system that would have in effect changed the requirements for most disorders, the
current edition serves as a transitional guideline to new diagnostic approaches without dramatically
disrupting current clinical practice/research (APA, 2013). Dimensional approaches can be observed
throughout the DSM 5 through the consolidation of related disorders, Section III additions, and
supplemental online materials. Consolidation of Disorders. The DSM 5 contains reorganized,
consolidated, and clarified content to adhere more relevantly to clinical practice. This included the
consolidation of autism disorder, Asperger s syndrome, and pervasive developmental disorder
(PDD) into a single diagnosis of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DSM 5 states that symptoms attributed to autism disorder, Asperger s syndrome, and PDD fall
along a single continuum of impairments across the domains of social communication and
restrictive/repetitive behaviors/interests. Rather than being considered distinct disorders,
individuals meet criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with specification of severity (mild to
severe). DSM 5 asserts that this modification serves to improve sensitivity and specificity in the
diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (APA, 2013; McPartland, Reichow, Volkmar, 2012).
Improved diagnostics will ultimately lead to increasingly focused treatment targets related to

So at what age, or perhaps at what stage of life, is adulthood granted? Depending on the culture it could be decided by marriage, age, military service, or even religion. Some cultures will have a coming of age party to celebrate becoming adult. Although each of these religions possess characteristics unique to itself, they share one thing in common in that they are all religions. Their classification as religions depend on the definition of the word: religion. Webster s Dictionary defines religion as The outward act or form by which men indicate their recognition of the existence of a god or of gods having power over their destiny, to whom obedience, service, and honor are due. Frederick Streng s attempt to define religion as, a process whereby people reach beyond themselves to connect with the true and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buddhists certainly recognize the existence of gods, and they practice many outward acts and forms to show this. Buddhists show their obedience, service, and honor to the Buddha, who is not a god, by memorizing and preaching his teachings, praying to him, dedicating temples and rituals to him, and making offerings to him. This is Webster s lone strong point in its definition of religion regarding Buddhism, and it fails to hold true. The Gautama Buddha claimed that people should not worship him, because he is now in Nirvana gone from existence. Therefore, there is no true obedience, service, or honor that is due to the Buddha or any god in Buddhism, because they have no power over one s destiny. If one were to exclude having power over their destiny, to whom obedience, service, and honor are due from Webster s definition, then perhaps Buddhism could be a religion according to Webster. This is certainly not the case in Buddhism. Gods do not hold any power over any being s destiny outside of their own. The good or bad karma a being generates is the destiny one constructs for itself. These myopic flaws of Webster s definition are impossible to ignore; based on its definition, Buddhism would not be a religion, and its definition would relegates Buddhism to nothing more than practices that appear to be religious but are ... In these last years his portraits, such as Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are enormously vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible. Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748. In 1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed. How could we prevent or slow down the bay from taking over our landmarks and populated areas? Around 10,000 years ago the San Francisco Baywas once not a bay. The glaciers from the ice age melted into water and then the water flowed into canyons to form into the San Francisco Bay. However the flowing of the bay may not have stopped. According to Smith s socio economic views a free society is entirely able to coexist with Capitalism. Smith believes that essentially free, lassez faires market equates into a free unrestricted society, wherein individual desire and drive is allowed to prosper and flourish. Unlike Marx, Smith does not view the capitalist mode of production, as a restricting process. Smith incorporates a Trickle down notion into his socio economical philosophy. And in actual fact Smith believes that the human nature will automatically dictate actions, for instance a human will subconsciously strive to generate wealth not just for himself but for the majority. Where Marx see s exploitation and manipulation as a characteristic of man kind, Smith see s man as an inherently good, a view that I also share. Capitalism is capable of co existing with a free society, because Smith s view is that man helps man and does not need legal constraints to prevent exploitation. Personally I find this view much more inviting than that of Marx, which needs constraints from human nature for a free society. In a capitalist society from Smith s stance successful business is positive not just for the minority, but also for the working class, because business creates jobs. Although man may strive for individual success it also benefits the general population. The Theory of Moral Sentiments Smith says: By acting according to the dictates of our moral faculties, we necessarily pursue the most effective means for promoting the happiness of mankind. When approaching Smiths stance on the Labor Theory of Value, we see just how much it differs from Marx. Whereas Marx focuses on the importance of being immersed in labor and making work much more of an art form, Smith views work relations absent of emotion. What is meant by this is that Smith believes that the division of labor leads to a far more cost effective and successful mode of production and due to the profits made lead to more affordable commodities. a man grows rich by employing a multitude of manufacturers; he grows poor by maintaining a multitude of menial servants. . This displays Smiths approach that by employing people the owner is serving more than just himself. What is meant by this is that the labour put in by a worker adds to the value of the product. The government is trying to regulate the sale, distribution, and ownership of guns because of this reason. Some of the arguments being made by the politicians is simply if the government has the right to be able to control, and if it does, the effectiveness of the public policy to regulate guns. This analysis is done in order to investigate the transcription factor binding sites (TFBS) variability with the comparison of ready published data of transcription factor binding maps for Drosophila isogenic lines and human individuals. In this paper it is very important to understand the concept of population genetics. Population genetics explains the study and research of distributions and modifications of allele frequency in a population. It further states that there are actually four evolutionary processes such as; selection, genetic drift, mutation and gene flow. It is important to describe an analysis of the relationship for exploration of intra species variation and it has been seen that variation in DNA regulatory elements are common and a fraction of it directly falls at TFBSs. 12 Drosophila species have been analyzed in order to see the sequence variation at each motif position and the results showed that motifs are conserved and depressed level of variation has been shown across individuals. It is observed that, an introduction of transcription factor binding variability, which has been taken into account transforms itself in a sort of motif match related to mutation and enables the researchers to investigate and make it possible to analyze TFBS related hurdles and operational constraints which shares medical or related biological attributes. ... The way Holden cant fit into the society around has drove him to hate it, instead of him coming to realize this he just judges other people on the fakeness and dishonesty. Insecurity controlled Holden s mind, he began believing that others wouldn t accept him for who he was and felt he had to keep up appearances by lying to others. In his experiments with dogs, Pavlov implanted tubes inside of dogs cheeks to measure how much saliva the dogs produced in response to various foods. Over a period of time, he began to notice that the dogs began to salivate at the sight of food, empty food bowl, and at the sound of the laboratory assistants footsteps. Since salivating to food in the mouth is a reflexive and salivating at the sight of an empty food bowl is not this intrigued Pavlov. He conducted a lot of controlled experiments and he was then able to train the dogs to salivate to things that had nothing to do with food, like the sound of the bell. He came to the conclusion that organisms had two types of responses to its environment: unconditioned responses and conditioned responses. In Pavlov s experiments, everytime meat powder was presented to the dogs they would salivate. The meat powder was an unconditioned stimulus, which is an event that draws out a reflexive response in an organism. The dog s salivation was an unconditioned response, which is a natural reaction to an event. Next Pavlov would sound a tone and then give the dogs the meat powder. The tone was a neutral stimulus, which is something that does not usually draw out a response. The dogs would not salivate to the sound of the tone. But when Pavlov would pair the tone with the meat powder repeatedly, the tone began to draw out salivation from the dogs. So the neutral stimulus became the conditioned stimulus an event that causes a response being repeatedly paired with an unconditioned stimulus. As the novel unravels it is evident that it could be both good and bad. 2. One time, as a child, in a power failure, his mother had found... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous to this quote the general view consisted of destruction and violence. However, now it is being perpetuated as a growing flower. One that is sprouting and demonstrating its inner beauty. 8. You must remember, burn them or they ll burn you, he thought. Right now it is as simple as that (Bradbury 123). This excerpt demonstrates Montag s mindset of every man for themselves . He knows those of law enforcement are after him as he had fled the city as a wanted criminal. Fire is his new tool for survival, without it he is left hopeless. He knows his enemies are after him and he must use fire before they force it upon him. This excerpt does not explain a specific topic and it is rather broad but it reveals his loneliness due to his actions to explore the world of literature. 9. And what lights the sun? Its own fire. And the sun goes on, day after day, burning and burning. The sun and time. The sun and time burning. • 42. Absorbration Of Molarity Lab Lab Report 1 Introduction: The experiment was about creating solutions of standard molarity and measuring concentrations. Solutions were made up of two parts, the solute and the solvent. The solvent was the dissolving substance and the solute was the substance being dissolved. Concentrations are based on how much solute is in a solvent, and is reported by the units of molarity. Molarity is calculated by diving the number of moles in the solute by the volume (in liters) of the complete solution. A process called dilution is used to decrease the concentration of a solution, it involves increasing the amount of solvent. In this experiment, an instrument called a spectrophotometer was used. The function that the spectrophotometer has is that it measures the amount of light that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The measurements that it reads are the absorbance and the transmittance. Absorbance is the amount of light that is absorbed by the solution, while transmittance is the amount of light that passes through the solution. The solute that was used in the experiment was Copper (II) Sulfate, which has a pale blue color. Since the Copper (II) Sulfate is blue in color, it will absorb light in the orange range of the light spectrum, and so 600nm is the adequate wavelength to measure the transmittance. A direct relationship between the amount of light absorbed by the solute and the concentration of the sample substance was established by the Beer Lambert Law. The Beer Lambert law is also able to provide a calibration plot that is used to find the concentration of a solution based on the absorbance of that same solution. With this, the purpose of the experiment is to be able to use these tools and knowledge to be able to identify concentration, transmittance, and absorbance of a solution as well as be able to create solutions manually and ... • 43. Essay on Odysseus as Pawn of the Gods in Homer s Odyssey Odysseus as Pawn of the Gods in The Odyssey Throughout literature characters have relied upon entities greater then themselves to furnish them with aid as they meet the many challenges they must face. The Odyssey is a tale of Odysseus epic journey and the many obstacles that bar his return home. But Odysseus is not alone in this struggle and receives aid from many gods, especially the clear eyed goddess Athena. There are times when Odysseus beseeches the gods for aid, but other times he is too foolhardy to receive aid from even the immortal gods. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseus journey revolves around the cyclical phases of his dependence, independence and his return to reliance upon the gods aid. While with Calypso ... Her reference highlights Telemachus greatest inheritance, which is the aid of the immortal gods. Even Nestor, a mortal, notes the aid which Telemachus receives from the gods, and marvels that Telemachus must be truly favored ...if when so young the gods become [his] guides (26). Such qualities in Telemachus constantly remind the reader of the dependence on the gods aid Odysseus has developed in his travels. Though Odysseus is as great a man as ever lived, he is still only mortal and at the gods mercy. Odysseus does not control his own destiny, but instead the gods determine what shall befall him and whether he shall ever reach his home. Odysseus is only a man and hard is a god for mortal man to master (36) even if he is great amongst his brethren. Odysseus can not control the gods anymore then he can control his fate and so he is left at their mercy. Even Zeus, who gives Odysseus many signs, will sometimes deal Odysseus woe which he is powerless to stop. To avenge the Sun god upon Odysseus evil crew, ...Zeus with a gleaming bolt smote [Odysseus ] swift ship and wrecked it in the middle of the wine dark sea (47). Such acts illustrate the control that the gods exercise over Odysseus and his inability to deliver himself from woe. As Odysseus begins his journey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The DSM-5 Diagnostic Analysis While the DSM 5 remains largely based on categorical nosology, the introduction acknowledges the need for a more dimensional approach (APA, 2013). In fact, the DSM 5 task force and work groups were instructed to consider empirically based guidelines to improve dimensional aspects of disorder categorization such as: shared neural substrates, biomarkers, family traits, course of illness, high comorbidity, genetic risk factors, and shared treatment response. While the DSM 5 task force ultimately decided that it was scientifically premature to transition to a completely dimensional diagnostic system that would have in effect changed the requirements for most disorders, the current edition serves as a transitional guideline to new diagnostic approaches without dramatically disrupting current clinical practice/research (APA, 2013). Dimensional approaches can be observed throughout the DSM 5 through the consolidation of related disorders, Section III additions, and supplemental online materials. Consolidation of Disorders. The DSM 5 contains reorganized, consolidated, and clarified content to adhere more relevantly to clinical practice. This included the consolidation of autism disorder, Asperger s syndrome, and pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) into a single diagnosis of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DSM 5 states that symptoms attributed to autism disorder, Asperger s syndrome, and PDD fall along a single continuum of impairments across the domains of social communication and restrictive/repetitive behaviors/interests. Rather than being considered distinct disorders, individuals meet criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with specification of severity (mild to severe). DSM 5 asserts that this modification serves to improve sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (APA, 2013; McPartland, Reichow, Volkmar, 2012). Improved diagnostics will ultimately lead to increasingly focused treatment targets related to specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
