World War I Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of World War I presents both challenges and opportunities for
exploration. The difficulty lies not only in the vastness of the subject matter but also in the need
to strike a balance between historical accuracy and engaging narrative. Researching this complex
and pivotal period in global history requires delving into a multitude of sources, deciphering
various perspectives, and synthesizing a cohesive narrative.
One hurdle is the sheer volume of information available, ranging from political intricacies to the
human stories that unfolded on the battlefield. Narrowing down the focus while still providing a
comprehensive overview demands meticulous planning and a keen sense of relevance. The writer
must navigate through the intricate web of alliances, political motivations, and socio-economic
factors that contributed to the outbreak and continuation of the war.
Moreover, conveying the profound impact of World War I on society, culture, and geopolitics
involves a nuanced approach. Balancing the gravity of the events with a captivating writing style
is essential to keep the reader engaged without sacrificing the seriousness of the topic. Creating a
seamless flow between historical facts and personal narratives requires a delicate touch to bring
the human aspect of the war to life.
Additionally, addressing the aftermath and the long-term consequences of World War I adds
another layer of complexity. Analyzing how the war shaped the 20th century and set the stage
for subsequent global events demands a deep understanding of historical causation and an ability
to connect the dots across time.
In conclusion, writing an essay on World War I is no small feat. It demands extensive research,
thoughtful organization, and the ability to weave a compelling narrative that does justice to the
profound impact of this historical epoch. It's a challenge that requires both academic rigor and
creative storytelling.
For those seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of such historical essays, there are

Cardiovascular Disease Is The Leading Cause Of Death
For...
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women and
has an average of 610,000 casualties in the United States every year. This could be
contributed to the fact that as adults, we tend to lead a very demanding lifestyle and
constantly struggle through a never ending to do list that diminishes the majority of
our day. Inside our home, the office, events for the holidays, and perhaps even
school, our responsibility to take care of ourselves doesn t quite make the priority
cutoff. For one thing, it is my understanding I m supposed to exercise at least three
times a week. About one in every three U.S. adults has reported that no leisure time
was spent doing physical activity to which I can relate. The first hour and... Show

At the same time, with a little research it s never too late to change a bad habit and
there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Significant progress has been made over the
last 50 years in understanding the causes of chronic illnesses, as well as development
in areas that provide knowledge to detect, prevent, and maintain comparable diseases.
Improvement in public health and health care have increased life expectancy by
approximately 30 years and has led to dramatic changes in the leading causes of
death. With this information we now have a better understanding of the long term
effects our choices will make and those results have already affected the market
around us. Fast food chains now provide menu selections for their health conscious
customers such as nutritional listings, optional cooking methods, and the use of
organic and Non GMO ingredients. Similarly, patients that suffer from congestive
heart failure and smoke may be drawn to the more recent e cigarette. Although e
cigarettes still have years of long term testing in order to determine their overall
hazards and benefits, current research shows that there is potential for smokers to
reduce their health related risks if electronic cigarettes are used in place of tobacco
cigarettes when on the road to the ending tobacco or nicotine use.
Conversion Disorder
Conversion disorder is a medical condition where its sufferers present neurological
symptoms such as paralysis, numbness, blindness or fits without a known
neurological trigger. Conversion disorder, formerly known as hysteria is considered
a psychiatric disorder by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,
which classifies it as a somatoform disorder. Contrary, World Health Organization s
International Classification of Diseases
(ICD 10) classifies it as a dissociative disorder.
The diagnosis of this neurological disorder has been problematic in the past, since
doctors have conceptually and practically differentiated its symptoms from those of
neurological diseases for which it is known to be. Most psychologists have ... Show

The diagnosis of conversion disorder involves three elements all of which present
some degree of controversy. These three elements are: the exclusion of neurological
disease, feigning and finally the determination of a psychological mechanism.
During the first stage, conversion disorder may resemble neurological disorders
such as multiple sclerosis, stroke or epilepsy therefore they must be carefully
excluded through appropriate examinations. In rare cases, patients with neurological
disease may also have conversion disorder, which further complicates the
determination of the degree of the conversion disorder in the patient. Exclusion of
conscious simulation is only possible where a patient confesses or is caught out in a
broader deception. Lastly, establishment of a psychological mechanism is the most
difficult aspect of conversion disorder diagnosis. DSM IV recommends that
clinicians assume preceding stressors to be associated with the progress of the
disorder which is still a subject of debate.
Notably, cultural influences have been noted to affect the somatoform disorders.
Cultures such as the Puerto Rican and the Greek are known to report higher rates of
somatization disorders among the men than is the case in the United States. In
addition, cases of somatization disorders are less common among persons with
higher levels of education compared to the less educated. According to Robert
(2002), rates are higher outside of the west, which can be attributed to

This method can be applied vertically, inclined, and over head surfaces with minimum
or without formwork. Generally the materials used in this method are same as
conventional mortar, and reinforcement are welded fabric and deformed bars tacked
onto surface.
Shotcrete process is carried out either by these two processes: a) Wet process b) Dry
process
a) Wet process: In the wet process mixture of cement and aggregate premixed with
water and the pump pushes the mixture through the hose and nozzle. Compressed air
is introduced at nozzle to increase the velocity of application.
b) Dry process: In dry mix process, compressed air propels premixed mortar and
damp aggregate and at the nozzle end water is added through a separate hose. The
dry mix and water through the second hose are projected on to a prepared surface.
Surface preparation before shotcreting involves a thorough cleaning and removing
all loose aggregate and roughening the existing concreting surface for improved
bond. Shotcrete frequently has high shrinkage characteristics and measures to
prevent cracks using adequate reinforcement and proper curing is always necessary.
The shotcrete surface can be lift as sprayed which is somewhat rough. If a smoother
surface is required, a thin layer can be sprayed on the hardened shotcrete and then
reworked and finished to the required texture or plaster can be applied.

Effects Of Media Violence On Society
Effects of Media on Society
Media violence has numerous negative consequences on youth today to commit
criminal acts in the society.
Violence in the media will never be stopped as long as the society spends more time
on violent movies and video games.
Media violence has been tremendously growing and attaining the hazardous extents.
Around 60 % of TV shows contain some kind of violence. Most self involving video
games contain some violent matter in it. For example, if you manufacture guns, you
do not need to give any advertisement, because it is done by the amusement
industry. Aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, hallucinations, and fear
of being mishandled were caused by the media violence, was explained in a 2009
Policy Statement on Media Violence, by the American Academy of Pediatrics
(Arline, 2012). The increase in aggressive behavior happens by watching violent
video shows on TV, and by playing violent video games.
The researchers found that boys and girls who played a lot of violent video games
changed over the school year. Media violence is not probable to convert a child
into a violent criminal. But, someday by just smoking a cigarette can increase the
likelihood of a lung cancer. Likewise, a violent show can increase the likelihood of
behaving in an aggressive way (Bushman and Huesmann, p. 248). There are many
reasons to be worried about the level of violence in the society, it is clearly simplistic
and confusing to hold that the major cause of criminal
Get Rid Of Dark Circles Research Paper
DIY hacks to get rid of dark circles Dark circles are a problem encountered by almost
everyone these days. Continuous use of gadgets, lack of sleep, increased stress
levels and various other reasons can lead to this. Here are a few simple remedies
to get rid of dark circles. Almond Oil Almond oil is very useful in reducing dark
circles. It is a rich source of vitamins, minerals and unsaturated fatty acids that are
all beneficial for the soft skin right under the eyes. You can choose to use Sweet
almond oil as it is non greasy. Take a small amount of the oil and apply it around
the eyes. Now, gently massage your eyelids. Try this before you go to bed every
night and wash your face with cold water the next morning. Follow this as a routine

It can lighten the skin and help to get rid of dark circles. All you need to do is
apply some lemon juice on to them using cotton balls and wash it away using
water after about ten minutes. Another method you could opt is to make a face
pack using lemon. Take one tablespoon of lemon extract, two tablespoons of
tomato puree and small amounts of gram flour and turmeric powder. Mix all the
ingredients well and form a paste. Apply it on to the skin surrounding the eyes.
This will help in lightening the skin. Tea Bags Tea bags are very effective in
eliminating dark circles. Tea contains caffeine and antioxidants and caffeine that
help in compressing the blood vessels. Teabags can also reduce the discoloration and
inflammation. You can use teabags of either black or green tea. Keep two such used
tea bags inside the refrigerator for about half an hour. Now close your eyes and place
the teabags on. Cold Compress Cold compress reduces the swelling and puffiness
under the eyes by contracting the blood vessels. Dip a washcloth in cold water and
place it on to your shut eyes. You can prepare an ice compress for yourself by
wrapping a few ice cubes in a

What is Propaganda?
Art is a powerful thing. It has fueled revolutions, cultural movements, and wars.
(Axelrod, 2015 Art Power in North Korea). However, when art is only a mouthpiece
for the government s agenda, it ceases to be a medium for true communication. In
this way, people are stripped of a powerful means for expression (Axelrod, 2015 Art
Power in North Korea). This is called propaganda. Now what is propaganda, might
the reader ask? Propaganda is the spread of political, philosophical, scientific,
artistic, and others views and ideas with a view to their implementation (Great
Soviet Encyclopedia, 2011). Propaganda has proven itself again and again to be the
most decisive tool in most conflicts, as by using propaganda you are molding the
minds of your people, eliminating dissent and gaining overwhelming support for
anything you wish. It is once said by the famous American general Douglas
A.Macarthur that One cannot wage war under present conditions without the support
of public opinion, which is tremendously molded by the press and other forms of
propaganda (Chicago Tribune, March 3 1942 Pg.3). Some of the biggest users of
propaganda were communist countries such as the USSR, China, North Korea. But
first, I d like to explain what communism is.
What is Communism?
Brainwashing In Brave New World
Aldous Huxley s Brave New World incorporates the political ploy of brainwashing
and uses it to promote the common belief. While the term brainwashing was coined
during the Cold War era, it still carries heavy implications and often suggests harsh
techniques. Subsequently, brainwashing can be seen as ridding a person of their own
ideology and replacing it with a more suitable collection of thoughts. Through
techniques of mass education, thought control, and depravation of critical judgment,
the World Controllers in the Brave New Worldare brainwashing their citizens and
creating a perpetual state of dependency and confusion, serving as a warning for
modern civilizations.
The premature mass education of children exposes them to a predetermined ideology
and imprisons them to the immoral laws of society. Huxley illustrates this by
describing the Brave New World s process of hypnopaedia, a sleep invoked teaching
method. While this meets the Central Intelligence Agency s criteria of brainwashing,
mass education, it goes beyond the bare minimal definition (United States 3).
Hypnopaedia takes advantage of the naГЇve and influenceable mind of young
children. By teaching children phrases such as, I m really awfully glad I m a Beta
and Gammas are stupid, World Controllers are establishing what they consider the
correct social hierarchy (Huxley 27). This restricts the individual citizen s ability to
establish their own beliefs and feelings toward other people. When combined with
Attenuation Types Of Photon Energy
The CBCT is relatively recent technology, with the first commercial scanner being
introduced in 1998 for dental imaging (87) This is a type of CT that uses a cone X
ray beam instead of the conventional fan beam (88). For standard full field of view
for CBCT, polychromatic X rays are generated from a source tube excited by 100
120 kV tube potential with 1.5 10 mA current (89). The emitted X ray photon
energy is absorbed by materials located be¬tween the X ray source and detector.
The remaining energy after absorption is recorded on a detector as expressed by
intensity (I) that represents energy per area and time. For example, the flat panel
detector consists of a pixel array of hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin film
transistors (88). A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1. Larger detectors have a greater chance of encountering the scattered X ray
pho¬tons leading to streak artefacts during reconstruction pro¬cess for the
CBCT image (90). Beam hardening occur as the energy levels of polychromatic X
ray beams used in the CBCT are not identical, the lower energy photons can be
easily absorbed at the edges of the scanned subject resulting in hardening of the X
ray beam, which produces lower gray values toward the center of the subject
(cup¬ping artifact) even if the density of the subject is homoge¬nous (91)
Defects or un calibrated components in the detector may cause ring artefacts with
concentric rings in the CBCT im¬age. Scanning dense metallic materials can
cause severe streaking artifacts when their gray values exceed the maxi mum level
of operation that the software can handle (91). Shading or streaking artefacts may
be observed when the gray values are incorrectly registered due to patient motion
during CBCT scanning (90,91) This artefact com¬monly appears as double
contours in the CBCT image. To date, CBCT based BMD measurement has been
used mainly to estimate bone properties for dental implanta¬tion (92). The BMD
measured from CBCT images showed a better predicting power to estimate cortical
bone frac¬ture than assessed by the conventional DXA images (93). More
applications are performed for the diagnosis of oral bone disease, improvement of
orthodontic treatment,
Fetal Abdomen Case Summary
Kecia is a 25yo, G3 P2002, who was seen for an ultrasound evaluation to evaluate
the fetal abdomen. She overall denies any major medical disorders. She reportedly
had a seizure related to an anesthesia event in a prior surgery but denies any history
of epilepsy and therefore is not on an anticonvulsant. She has 2 previous term
uncomplicated vaginal deliveries in 2012 and 2016. On today s evaluation, overall,
she has no obstetrical complaints and has positive fetal movement. By dates, the
patient is 35 5/7 weeks and the measurements are concordant. The amniotic fluid
volume is normal. The fetus is in cephalic presentation. The BPP and Doppler studies
are reassuring. A complete fetal anatomical survey was performed and no major
malformations were noted at this time within the resolution of the ultrasound
equipment other than the fetal abdomen. There is a cystic structure seen in the fetal
abdomen that is about 3 cm in diameter with some echolucency surrounding this. It is
below the kidney but above the fetal bladder as identified in your office.... Show more

the intestines. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a confirmed diagnosis of

Why Is Soccer Better Than Brazil s Competitors
Soccer is under appreciated here and should be even bigger. Soccer has so much
history. For instance, Real Madrid and Barcelona have a pretty big rivalry from
stealing trophies from each other. Brazil and Argentina have a rivalry because they
always compare legends to each other. Pele of Brazil and Maradona of Argentina.
Real Madrid has the most European trophies with 12 under their name. Unlike many
sports soccer doesn t have an offseason. When the season is over for club,
international soccer happens. World cup qualifying and many other international
competitions. We have the best announcers ever. Everyone has heard a soccer
announcer exhaustingly yell GOOOOOOAAAAAL . It is very famous. The rules to
soccer are pretty simple. Besides

General Anesthesia for Bariatric Surgery Ina Basha University of New England One
third of the American adult population is considered to be overweight, a figure that
is still on the rise. Numerous studies have presented the negative impacts that obesity
has on health and how every organ system in the human body is affected. When
minimally invasive strategies such as life style changes fail, bariatric surgery
procedures have become the other option. The purpose of this literature review is to
look at the outcomes of post operative pain, post operative nausea and vomiting, and

As a result, obesity does not merely affect the individual alone, but an entire
society. With a prevalence of one third of adults considered to be overweight (not
dealing with childhood obesity, which is becoming an epidemic in its own right),
more patients are turning to surgery as a solution. In 1992 there were 16,200
bariatric surgical procedures in the United States and by 2008 that number had
increased to 220,000 (Schumann, 2010). This paper aims at answering the
following question: In obese adults undergoing bariatric surgery, how does opioid
free anesthesia compare to opioid based general anesthesia and its effect on post
operative outcomes in terms of post operative pain, post operative nausea and
vomiting (PONV), and length of stay in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU)?
Bariatric surgery is the last resort for morbidly obese patients who have tried other
options, such as diet and exercise, but have fallen short from obtaining their desired
health goals. The surgery is safe and effective, but as with any surgery, there are risks
involved. Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has put forth very
specific criteria that must be met before bariatric surgery can be performed on a
patient. The Obesity Action Coalition
The Death Of The River Bridge
In the community where I grew up folks didn t read the News Paper to find out
what folks had done. They already knew that from the party line. They read the News
Paper to find out if they got caught.
I don t remember reading this story in the News Paper, but everybody knew about it
anyway. There was a young mandriving along a lonely, dark and narrow road just
north of town one night. As the road approached the river bridge, there was a slight
turn in the road. The boy failed to make the curve and his automobile plunged into the
river.
Shortly, another vehicle came into view and as it rounded the curve, the driver saw
the half submerged automobile. He stopped, jumped into the river and after quite a
struggle he freed the young man, and saved his life.
A few weeks later that same young man was taken before the court judge and
charged with a very serious crime. To the young man s amazement, the judge was the
same man who had saved his life at the river that night.
After the charges were made, the judge asks the young man, Do you have anything
to say for yourself? The young man said, Sir, you can t condemn me to die, because
you are the one who saved my life just a few weeks ago when you pulled me from
the river. The judge said, Son, on that day I was your savior, today I am your judge.
I wanted to tell that story so I could remind you of another Savior and Judge; the
Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord is gentle and kind. (James 3:17). He is all loving (Eph. 5:25)
The Moral Virtue Of The Right Thing
a. Doing the right thing really depends on the individual and what they believe is
justified. Aristotle believes doing the right thing is about continually practicing it,
moral virtue comes about as a result of habit . Kant declares doing the right thing is
about acting freely, that is autonomously, and acting morally, according to the
categorical imperative, are one and the same . John Stuart Mill believes in doing
the right thing to obtain the most utility or happiness. Each philosopher has a
different belief of justice. It truly relies on the individual in the situation to do
what they see is fit. The philosophers help with doing the right thing because they
break down the options of ways to act and provide reasoning for each. When faced
with a moral dilemma, we can use these philosophers ideas and their sociological
beliefs to make an informed decision. The only issue is that everyone agrees with a
different philosopher, but we all end up doing the right thing or at least what we
can reason was the right thing to do. As developing citizens we have to decide
whom we relate more to in that situation and act appropriately without harming
others. Sometimes, we take a little bit of every philosopher s ideas to make a
decision and that is acceptable. b. The philosopher that I most connect with is
Aristotle. He argues that justice means giving people what they deserve, giving each
person his or her due . This I understand because everyone is entitled to getting what

Dive In. My First Piece Of Personal Advice To My Future
Dive in
My first piece of personal advice to my future self is to dive in. Fear of failure has
always been something that I ve struggled with. During my first year of university,
I was in the Faculty of Arts but desperately knew I wanted to be business school.
With that said, I was extremely scared of failure and held my application back until I
was ready the next year. For a whole year, I took courses that I wasn t passionate
about as I couldn t bring myself to apply to Sauder. I wasted a year of my
undergraduate experience because I was scared. I deeply regret it now that I know
what I m capable of.
My time at Sauder has forced me to directly face my fear of failure. Networking

During the first few years of my career, I want to be a PhD candidate in consumer
behaviour. I want to learn more about different statistical methods to test my
hypotheses and learn new theories that I can draw upon for new research ideas. My
first advice to dive in is especially applicable in the academic world. The large
majority of research ideas do not work out because the data doesn t support the
hypothesis or journal reviewers turn down the proposal. For my future self, it is
critical that I m not discouraged by null findings or rejections from editors because it
is part of the job.
While the process of research can seem gruelling to most people, I know that I m
passionate about it because time passes by quickly when I m thinking about a new
research question or writing a research proposal or finding patterns in my data. My
contingency advice to my future self is, if research doesn t work out, find another
occupation that makes it feel like time is flying by.
It s not just about the money
When I first started at Sauder, I had a preconceived belief that if I worked hard in
school that would mean I would make a lot of money and, consequently, be happy.
And so I did do that for the first couple of years before I realized I was miserable
since I spent no time pursuing my hobbies or seeing my friends and family. Thus, I

Clara Barton Women In The Military
Clara Barton, who was born in 1821, grew up in Massachusetts. Growing up with
five siblings, she was taught that women weren t supposed to do activities such as
being a nurse or working in the military. While this was not the norm, she wished
to become a nurse as a child because she was influenced by her father who worked
in the military. She was a rebel. He would come home to tell her tales of his time in
the military which often included stories of his wounded cohorts. At only ten years
old, she took it upon herself to nurse her brother back to health after he fell off the
roof of their barn. Eventually, she turned to teaching as she got older. During her
time as a teacher her students were so well behaved the parents deemed her the best
discipliner. Offended, she requested them to take back this name. Bartonfared well as
a teacher and knew how to handle rambunctious children, particularly the boys, since

and began work as a clerk in the US Patent Office, this was the first time a woman
had received a adequate job in the federal government and at a salary equal to a
man s salary. Subsequently, under political opposition to women working in
government offices, her position was reduced to that of copyist, and in 1856, under
the administration of James Buchanan, eliminated entirely. Irritated, Barton took to
gathering supplies for the Civil War soldiers, because her father had convinced her
that it was her duty as a Christian to help them. Because Barton kept persisting, she
finally gained permission from Quartermaster Daniel Rucker to work on the front
lines. Clara was determined. She gained support from other people who believed in
her cause. She worked to apply dressings, and serve food to wounded soldiers in
close proximity to several battles, including Cedar Mountain, Second Bull Run,

Feminism And Feminism
Throughout history government and politics has been a patriarchal system;
controlled by men. In recent years this system has been challenged as women have
recently been gaining traction in the political world, after a past of zero tolerance of
women in politics there is still a major issue with the number of women in the
political realm. Women are underrepresented in politics and government because
although men in politics like to fight for equal rights for women, in reality they are
hesitant to follow through at the cost of losing their own foothold in the political
world.
According to Oxford English Dictionary, feminism is the advocacy of women s rights
on the ground of the equality of the sexes. Since feminism came to be, it has
always been a crucial part of society. But not only is it a social ______ but it is also
political, ever since the movement for women s rights began in the 1840 s. There are
many theories with regards to feminism and politics. One of these theories is Liberal
Feminism. The Liberals ideology is that freedom is a fundamental value, and that the
state ensures freedom for individuals. Liberal feminists hold the same views and
insist on freedom for women. Liberals in general believe that freedom comes from
personal autonomy and political autonomy; making personal choices that affects one
s life, and helping to co author the conditions of the government which one may live
under. The liberals also believed that in order to exercise personal autonomy

Afghanistan
Current Problem:
The current problem that is occurring in Afghanistan is the fact that American
soldiers are over at Afghanistan right now. After the 9/11 attack, President George W.
Bush puts together a plan to attack Afghanistan. America sends over a warning, to
either turn over Osama bin Laden, the man in charge of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, or
we ll bomb you. After Afghanistan refused to turn him over, due to lack of evidence
that he was in charge of the 9/11 attacks, America, with the help of it s allies,
countries like the United Kingdom and the Northern Alliance, bombed Afghanistan.
Through all of this madness, Osama bin Laden escaped. After all the stuff that just
happened in Afghanistan, President George W. Bush called for America to
reconstruct Afghanistan . This would include going over there, building a new
government, and helping the people of Afghanistan to live a nonviolent life. After a
decade of America being in Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden being killed, and two
new presidents in Afghanistan, we are left with a big problem, American soldiers are
still in Afghanistan, and we have no idea when they will be able to come back. We

Amir s Dream In The Kite Runner
Every child has a dream, whether it s to be an astronaut when they grow up, or if it

happy and never have anything good in their life chance. In Khaled Hosseini s
book The Kite Runner the main character, Amir, lives his life thinking it will be the

home, lose his best friend, and see his father slowly die in front of him, to being
granted a child in not the most ordinary of ways, Amir gets to lives out his dreams

Amir lost his mother when he was born but he looked up to his father and thought
of him in the highest way. But he felt as though his father didn t love him and was
mad at him for killing his beloved wife. Amir did whatever he could to make his
dad proud of him but it just always seemed like he was embarrassing his Baba.
Then, one day, his dreams finally came true by winning the kite flying tournament,
and they started sending more and more time together like he always wanted. That
didn t last very long though, Amir asked his father whether he ever though of
getting new servants out of guilt for what he did and that put an end to their hang
outs. Now obviously no child ever wants their parent to leave them, but eventually
everyone returns to God. Two years after being in America, Amir s Baba was
diagnosed with cancer and was too stubborn to get treatment which deepened Amir
s grief. He knew his father would be leaving soon and shortly after Amir got
married, he passed in his sleep. Amir wanted to be a writer ever since he was a
little boy in Afghanistan but his father never approved of it. Amir still knew his
father would be proud of him when he became successful but Amir became a
published novelist soon after the death of his Baba. He always made sure he was
thinking of Baba, wishing he could have seen [him]. (Hosseini, 183) Amir dreamed a

Gender Stereotypes In Aladdin
The aim of this essay is to investigate the race, sexuality and gender stereotyping that
is expressed through the Disney film Aladdin and how these elements affect the
characters. These elements will be represented within the characters personality and
back story which is then visually represented in the characters design.
In this Disney film there is a great importance to know the history in the world during
the time that this film was established. The history during 1991 is shown through the
characters. The filmmakers established Aladdin in 1991 Gulf War that lasted six
months. Conflict was present between Iraq and 34 countries in the U.N. inclusive of
the United States, trying to recover order to Kuwait.

This creates an image of all Arabs having a violent nature. This was evident in the
scene where Jasmine steals an apple for a penniless boy, the shop vendor then grabs

Not only do the stereotypes expressed through the characters and the play a vital role,
but the representation through body structure, style and design help create and grant
these characters to be more unique and individualistic. This allows them to contrast
with other background characters and the environment in which they live.
The way in which Disney films help maintain a respectable name for the hero is
through justifying the characters negative actions. This is present in Aladdin as he is
portrayed to be a thief as he steals a loaf of bread, just before he was about to eat the
bread he then sees two children scratching through trash to feed themselves. Aladdin
in turn, gives the children the bread therefore justifying his actions of thievery. The
reasoning behind his actions help to reduce his Arabic decent and the stereotypes

Berger Family Encounters In Awake And Sing
The struggle the Berger family encounters in Awake and Sing is clearly evident by
the setting Clifford Odets sets up for his audience. Throughout the opening pages of
the play, particularly in this excerpt, the dialogue is chalk full with literary elements
of mood, tone, and imagery. These three elements each complement each other as
they all provide the play with a dark, depressing, and somber overtone. Not only
does Odets provide the reader with textual and linguistic setting elements, but the
physical setting portrays a gloomy atmosphere as well. The play takes place in an
apartment in the Bronx, New York City during the Great Depression. Already, the
time period of the play, in addition to the apartment being in the poverty stricken
neighborhood of the Bronx gives context to how hard it is for the Berger... Show

The only thing in his way is the plummeting economy keeping him from a
prosperous, successful, and worry free life. These phrases, although said with hope,
evoke emotion and put a sense of stress on the reader as they learn that this family
cannot live comfortably. Ralph takes off his rose colored glasses and becomes less
optimistic when he questions life by saying, What s it for? (Odets, 42). The
audience now sees a man struggling with his identity and purpose. Ralph s words
set a strong, dark, and continuous tone for the play that serves to encompass his
entire family. Ralph continues to focus on his working career and how he still
cannot seem to provide the little things in life that he desires. The reader is
confronted with imagery that explains the reality of the Berger s situation through
the eyes of Ralph. The audience comes to realize that Ralph sleeps on a day bed in
the front room (Odets, 42). Odets provides an image of a character who is questioning
his place in life, and who quite literally does not have his own personal space within
his family
Comparing Coachella, Larkfest And The Marley Fast
Festivals make so much money in the beginning of the year. Festivals like
Coachella, LarkFest, and The Marley Fest are the most popular in the country. Most
parents give their teenagers festival tickets as a christmas present so they can have
fun. What most parents don t know is that in the festivals their kids can easily smoke
and drink. The festivals are the most popular because it is easy for young adults to
consume drugs. The LarkFest is an example of how easy young adults can get
alcoholic beverages. Larkfest has relaxed on the I.D. policy for purchasing drugs and
alcohol.
Coachella is most known for the consumption of cocaine and use of marijuana.

from sites that teens might use. They should publish the Festival drugs but on adult

John Donne Meditation 17
John Donne s central theme for Meditation 17 is that all Christians are United.
Everyone is united and no one stands alone. John Donne is adamant that no one
should feel left out or be ostracized by anyone. He wants everyone to realize that no
one is alone and we all share the same experiences; he describes this idea as no man
is an island (Donne 2). No man is left floating in the water, instead all men are
linked as pieces of the continents. Tenth Avenue North s central message is that an
extreme amount of people live in isolation and they do not have to. No one is meant
to do life alone and they don t realize how genuine humans can be. Many people want
to be alone, but they need to be shown how great community is. The artists bring
Essay On Cathleen Ni Houlihan s Rising Of The Moon
First Cathleen Ni Houlihan would be performed followed by The Rising of the
Moon. Both settings of these one acts would be constructed with minimalistic design
juxtaposed with highly detailed acting decisions. This will utilize the audience s
imagination to create a realistic backdrop for both of these scenes, and keep the focus
of the production of the evolving relationship between the protagonists and the
unlikely defenders of Ireland, i.e. the ragged man and the poor old woman.
Minimalist constructs for both settings is a must for both plays. It impossible to
create a realistic enough backdrop for the scenes that accurately illustrates the culture,
and the beauty of the nature surrounding both scenes. Therefore, by allowing the
audienceto create the shoreline that the quay is built upon, and the fields basked in
the sun s glow surrounding the Gillane s residents, they will be more invested in the
stakes of the rebellion, and as a result better sympathize with the antagonist.

Piggy Symbolism
Generally, novels are used to convey a deeper political or moral meaning. In many
novels, their characters are used to cover up the disputed topics that the author
wants to display. The characters, in Lord of the Flies by William Golding,
symbolize many political events that took place in Golding s life. Three character
s in particular, Ralph and his democratic standard, Jack being an authoritarian man,
and Piggy and his intelligence. These characters in the story held deeper meaning
about our real life society with instead of just kids on the island. The theme of
Lord of the Flies can depict the flaws of society being directly diagonal to the flaws
of human nature. For example, Ralph is the main protagonist of Lord of the Flies
and is a symbol for democracy and proper structure. Golding writes, By now, Ralph
had no self consciousness in public thinking but would treat the day s decisions as

Piggy could think. He could go step by step in that fat head of his, only Piggy was
no chief. But Piggy after all his ludicrous body, had brains. Without intelligence in
the real world, caveman and modern man would be considered the same. Piggy is
the one that found the conch and used it in a smart way to unite everyone and
speak in turn, it held the kids together for as long as possible until the conch was
killed with Piggy. Piggy is described by Golding as short and very fat, but it is
mostly because of his appearance that his intelligence was not acknowledged. It s no
accident that the fat boy s nickname is Piggy, the staggering feeling that Jack and his
hunters had to kill the pig is a clever and indirect metaphor that Golding used to
suggest the boys are also going to kill Piggy and the nickname is a unintentional
symbol that meant vulnerable which, Piggy was while he was on the island with the
Analysis Of Grendel And The Epic Of Beowulf
Merriam Webster defines a hero as a person who is admired for great or brave acts
and defines a villain as a character who does bad things. These definitions may not
be so indubitable as John Gardner takes a hero and villain to a whole new level in
his novel, Grendel. Throughout the years of novels and short stories, heroes and
villains have been constructed as strictly good versus evil, but what if there is good
in evil and evil in good? Grendel and the epic, Beowulf, revolve around this idea of
heroes and villains and good versus evil. Gardner s twist on the stereotypical hero
leads to the true definition of a hero being changed as he creates one who has a
nihilistic view on his atypical life. A hero in the eyes of the Anglo Saxonshas
superman strength, undertakes a great quest which relates to society s values,
battles a great monster, and is required to pay homage to a god. Beowulf makes it
black and white on whom the hero and villain are; Beowulf being the wonderful
hero who kills the inimical villain, Grendel. Gardner s novel, Grendel, has a
skewed view on who the hero and villain Gardner uses the villain from Beowulf and
creates a novel around him and his viewpoints on his world. However Grendel fits
almost perfectly into the characteristics of a hero, according to the Anglo Saxons. He
posses super strength which is demonstrated through the altercations he has with
man. In fact, man is Grendel s evil or villain. Chapter one includes examples to
prove Grendel s
Business, Sustainability And The Natural Environment
Business, Sustainability and the Natural Environment, Daniel Katz During the past
25 years, awareness of the environment has increased tremendously. Non profit
organizations look beyond institutional goals, and instead, try to find a shared vision
that works for everyone in the society. Our society needs to stop consuming as if we
have an infinite planet; we have to have integrity for the world we live in because the
natural resources that have been sustaining us will not last forever. Companies need
to evolve with the modern age and changing consumer market. For example, Netflix
never thought they would produce their own shows, however, with the changing
consumer market, they have done just that. Also, NGO s sometimes have to partner
with bigger for profit companies in order to target a larger consumer base, thus,
solidifying the fact that the for profit and non profit sector have to team together in
order to sustain the environment in which we inhabit. Business, Sustainability and
Poverty, Jacqueline Novogratz This plenary begins by stating that a financial crisis
occurs when people in the markets do not trust each other. Trust is what makes a
society fair. Corruption flourishes upon weaknesses in economic, political, and social
institutions, and this diverts economic growth by eroding the quality of public goods.
In this age, income equality has increased across countries due to globalization and
technology; however, income inequality within countries has increased as

I have had children that have tried to kill themselves, fight, and get in trouble on

Necco Wafers Research Paper
In 1847, with Oliver Chase s invention of the lozenge cutter, the famous Necco
Wafers were born. Necco Wafers quickly became an American favorite with eight
flavors to enjoy: orange, lemon, lime, clove, chocolate, cinnamon, licorice, and
wintergreen. Aside from consumption, Necco Wafers have also been used as poker
chips, for first communion practice, and even as bulls eyes at target ranges. Four
billion Necco Wafers are produced each year, and if placed edge to edge, would
wrap around the world twice. In the early 1900 s, Necco Wafers came in handy for
more than just gingerbread house decorations. For example, in 1913, Donald
MacMillan, an arctic explorer, gave eskimo children the American candy on his
expedition. In the 1930 s, two and a half tons of this chalky candy were included
on Admiral Byrd s two year journey in the Antarctic, enough for each of member of
his crew to consume a pound of wafers each week. Since Necco Wafers did not melt
and rarely broke during transport, during World War II, the American government
sent massive amounts of these candies overseas to soldiers. Although World War II

Compare And Contrast Marriage And Getting Married

The Baroque Period Of The Baroque And Classical Period
At this time last year, I would have considered all music before the 20th century to
be classical. However, after taking a Dual Credit Music Appreciation course, I
realized that old music cannot simply be grouped into a single category. There are
so many differences that I had no idea existed. Throughout the years, music has
changed and evolved, meeting the needs of listeners and performers. Different
composers have been catalysts in this change as they have developed new styles
and genres. Even though the classical period is directly subsequent of the baroque
period, baroque and classical music have countless different qualities and
characteristics. The baroque period of music commenced in the year 1600 and
ended around 1750 (Fuller Baroque ). Its texture was mainly polyphonic (Fuller
Classical ). Polyphonic means that two or more different melodies are played
simultaneously (McComb). This provides an energetic rhythm, long melodies, and
many ornaments. The most famous composers of this time period were Vivaldi,
Corelli, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, J.S. Bach, and Couperin. Many new styles of
music were introduced, such as operas, sonatas, oratorios, suites, fugues, and
concertos. Orchestras began to develop, but it was not until the classical period
when orchestral music was perfected (Fuller Baroque ). In 1750, the classical period
of music started, and it terminated in 1810. The texture was primarily homophonic
(Fuller Classical ), which means there is

I would love to contribute my analytical mind, international experience, and lateral

An analytical mind is essential to strategy and innovation because only a detailed
understanding of the underlying problem enables the discovery of a novel approach
to solving the actual cause rather than just the problem. Throughout my extensive

mechanics are like Fallout as well as everyone on the planet has heard about this
game.
This game is the next chapter of the Elder Scrolls saga arrives once again from the
Bethesda Game Studios, taking place after Oblivion. Skyrim imagines the open

Although this game is able to be beat within four with my friend and we were not
even masters at speed runs. Even though this game is a great must own classic for
the 7th generation of consoles, this game has loads of bugs and glitches. Once in
awhile if you encounter a glitch it can even speed up the story. In fact, there is this
one point in the game where if you hold onto a plate and walk into a wall you fall
through the floor and skip about ten minutes. There are a lot of points in the game
where you can just skip hours of game time with abusing the glitches. Like in
Fallout 3 I got power armor and was able to use it on level eight because I walked
through a boulder and encountered this random guy. This has always been a
problem with all Bethesda games, the have grand open worlds, but have some
many bugs and glitches in these worlds. Skyrim, however has the most enjoyable
glitches and is definitely a time consuming game, you could spend hours, days,
weeks or even months on completing this game. One big factor to getting this
game or not is how important story is to you since like Fallout 3, the story is not
always present and usually you have to look around the world to get a grasp on it.
The real factor is if you like medieval themes since that is what sets this game apart
the most from the Fallout series. No matter what I say though, is going to ruin this
game since it able to overcome all issues of Skyrim. (Nitpick
Making Of A Melodram Style Swap
Making of a Melodrama: Style Swap
Like a true symbolist drama, the goal of Interior was to put on stage what could not
be expressed purely through rational language. In addition, Symbolist theater put
focus on the atmosphere as opposed to the plot which is evident in Maeterlinck s play
Interior. Since symbolist theater is interested in the internal landscape of the
subconscious, mood and atmosphere were more important than exciting reversals and
climaxes The major conflict in the plot of Interior by Maurice Maeterlinck, the Old
Man is working up the courage to tell the family that one of the daughters has
drown. The plot of the play is fairly simple because Maeterlinck s intention for the
play was to peer into ordinary life and focus on the elements that people tend to
overlook in day to day life. This is one of the major elements that makes this play
purely symbolists and not close to a melodrama. In order to make this play into a
melodrama three major elements would need to change: addition of spectacle in the
presentation of the play, comedic relief to offset the serious plot, and the addition of
background music.
Adding Spectacle
The play Interior is driven by the death of one of the families daughters. One way
to add spectacle to this play to swap the style from symbolist to a melodrama, would
be to add a prologue that details the daughter s death. The purpose of spectacle is to
animate the desired audience emotional response. By having a brief prologue that

Money Matters Syllabus
The person I chose to write a profile on is my Money Matters course teacher, Brian
Bean. The thing is he is not just a phenomenal teacher, but I trust he has invented one
of the best math courses an educator could teach before students enter the real world.
The course he created and designed was meant to prepare high school students to
juggle the practical aspects of the real world in their daily after they graduate. Brian
created a unique problem solving model that trained students on how to breakdown a
decision, identify the resources at their disposal, generate appropriate solutions, and
when necessary communicate effectively their conclusions and understandings.
Ultimately, this course is about finding out who you are, what your challenges will
be, and what your path to success will look like.
The motivation for this course he created was an actual a real life experience he ran
into; he was a victim of one of the worst things that could happen to just about
anyone. Brian came upon a company that advertised it would double his money if he
invested money into their company. At the time this company seemed very legitimate
to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His earnings were not a true profit. Brian was making way over six figures so he
started purchasing expensive material objects. He didn t think too much of it, well
when the company quit answering his calls things started getting weird. Brian
started getting calls and mail from banks stating he owed this much for these
things, but Brian didn t have that kind of money so he started to panic and things
started to unravel. As he started to figure what this company really was he
concluded that it was a Ponzi scheme, once Brian gathered all of the information the
guy that ran it was already down in South America, living life with all the money he
gained from the Ponzi scheme. By definition, a Ponzi scheme is intended to persuade
the public to place their money into a falsified stock or
Victoria Aveyard s Red Queen
In the book, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, Mare s world is run by people of
silver blood with the people of red blood bowing down to their every word. Mare is
forced into royalty and must act silver, although she is red in the blood. The author
included specific details in the story that helps build character and helps the readers
understand the story. Two details that help readers understand the story are similes
and the point of view.
The first technique in Red Queen was similes. Victoria Aveyard writes The laugh
escapes me like a gunfire, (Aveyard 213) Similes in books help the readers to
understand the book by being able to picture the book as a movie in their head.
Victoria Aveyard did this because she wanted to help the reader have a better idea
about the novel by using a comparison. All young adults know that a ... Show more

Aveyard purposely chose the story to be in the first person point of view to allow
the readers to recognize the strong emotions the main character, Mare, has felt
during the novel. Victoria Aveyard writes, I want them to be found. I want them in
front of me with a blade at their backs, and I want them to sing like the cowardly
birds they are. (Aveyard 245) Since Red Queen is in first person point of view,
anyone who was to read or hear this sentence would be scared, especially since it
was directed at the narrator. When a book is in first person point of view, the
reader feels like they are inside the book, like they are living and traveling in a
different dimension with people they know better than their own family. The author
also writes, The worst has happened already. We have lost. (Aveyard 329) The
author wrote this because she wanted the readers to understand how Mare is feeling
since everyone knows what it s like to fail something. This is the 2nd way Victoria
Aveyard incorporated a technique into her
The Consequences Of Animal Captivity
Taking a family trip to the zoo with the kids generally entails a day of bright grins
and exotic entertainment. Children feast their beady eyes on the foreign animals
showcased, in awe at their fascinating performances. Despite the exhilaration
generated at these locations, people fail to realize the gruesome reality that occurs
behind the scenes of zoo. Although animal captivity provides amusement and is said
to be educational, it remains to be a cruel practice that should require stricter
regulation because of the inhumane circumstances that zoos subject the animalsto.
Zoos claim to be for educational purposes, but in actuality they only serve as a means
for entertainment. The informational signs posted throughout the zoo meant to educate
Lil Wayne s Rhetorical Techniques Used In Advertising
2016 was the year that Samsung introduced one of their latest smartphones to their
lineup of products, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung was most proud of the
water resistance ability of their new flagship phone, and what better way to
showcase that ability, than too have one of the most popular living rappers, Lil
Wayne, to appear in a commercial to prove it. Samsung s Galaxy S7 commercial not
only aired on TV, but also went viral on social media sites, such as; YouTube,
Facebook, etc. Michelle Castillo, wrote in her article on the CNBC website that, Marc
Mathieu, Samsung s chief marketingofficer, mentioned that Samsung s ad agency,
Wieden+Kennedy, came up with the idea for the new ad campaign with Lil Wayne in
mind as the spokesperson,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method can either stir up positive or negative emotions in the reader, but
either way its intent is to sell an idea, belief, a product, or to convince the reader to
pick a side. This commercial uses pathos in a couple different ways. Humor is the
most obvious way pathos is being used, it is the setting of the entire commercial.
When Wayne, Max, and his friend on the phone, Kenny, are saying, Whaaaaaat! , it
is meant to be silly and fun. It is even funny just watching them pour champagne on
their smartphones. Humor promotes laughter, and laughter releases endorphins in
our brain that trigger the happy feels, and puts us in a good mood. It is well
known, that if you can get the customer to laugh, then you are more likely to sell to
that customer because laughter helps them drop whatever guard they are putting
up. Another way this ad uses pathos, is by appealing to the fear of dropping our
phone in water and damaging it. We all can relate to this type of accident, and we
are always trying to prevent it, so we don t have to worry about forking out the big
bucks to repair or replace our beloved smartphone. In the commercial, Max pouring
champagne on his phone and it shorting out, is a perfect example of pathos, by
showing us that if you get your phone wet, it will damage it, unless you get the new

Changes And Effects Of The Hundred Years War
The Hundred Years War is the seventh longest war in history lasting one hundred
and sixteen years in which there were 3.5 million deaths. The Hundred Years War
was between France and England from 1337 to 1453 over the succession to the
French throne. When Charles IV of France died without sons in 1328, his closest
male relative was King Edward III of England. Isabella of France claimed the French
throne for her son, but the French rejected it. Philip of Valois, first cousin of Charles
IV, succeeded the throne as King Philip VI of France. For about nine years the English
had accepted the Valois succession to the French throne but finally they rejected it
and Edward III claimed the throne. Englandpoured all of its resources and manpower

There were many different weapons, some old behind established and some new
and created by the kingdoms. The creation of the longbow changed the course of
the war, giving a distinct advantage to the English. This weapon was utilized to its
full potential because it changed the feudal armies to small archery based troops.
There were also developments of other weapons that the English and French did
not create but used the weapons for the first time in the location. The effect
changed the way they traded and with whom they traded. New places began to
trade with France and England so they were exposed to different cultures and
societies. France and England took these new weapons and made advancements to
them like adding a spear to the end of the gun or creating stronger bullets.21 New
believes began to develop throughout France and England including the belief of
nationalism throughout the society. This new belief changed society drastically and
made for a strong and powerful monarch in both France and England. Because of
these new believes army sizes grew which in turn caused more deaths but also
increased manpower for the king. These believes solved the crisis because the king
needed troops and the commoners needed money. It also caused France and England
to believe that their country was superior to all others and therefore more powerful
Welfare Drug Testing Essay
Public welfare is the term which stands for the variety of tax supported programs
that provide cash assistance or services to residents who are not able to financially
take care of themselves (Hansan, 2011). This program was started in the 1930 s
during the Great Depression. There are several types of welfareincluding health care,
food stamps, child care assistance, cash aid, and housing assistance. Medicaid is
considered to be one of the welfare programs; it is a medical care that provides cash
income assistance for the poor ( Medicaid , 2002). Recipients must meet multiple
requirements that are established prior to receiving aid. The requirements include
low income, child dependency, family size, and any crisis situation such as
pregnancy, unemployment, and medical emergencies (Welfare Information, n.d.). As
of today, some states require welfare recipients to get drug tested when applying for
financial benefits. Arguments arose whether the test should take place or not. Many
people believe that the government should not drug test welfare recipients because
unpleasant consequences occur. Not only does drug testing recipients create chaos
in the U.S. bureaucratic system, it also labels the recipients, creating stigma and
deviance especially if the test comes out positive. Welfare recipients are being
discriminated by society and this may lead to knowledge gaps between the
underclass and other social classes which creates a caste system. Many negative
effects take place as
Morality and Will Power in Lucifer in Starlight by George...
Lucifer in Starlight, written by George Meredith, concerns the differences between
nominalism and realism in terms of morality and will power. The central theme of
this poem revolves around the notion that Lucifer has no place other than hell, and
any attempts at returning to heaven is impractical. Meredith combines irony, along
with his own distinctive tone and style, to portray his idea of natural law. As with
any poem, the title can sometimes be a reference to other works of fiction, the Bible,
mythology, or famous figures. In this instance, it s the Bible. Lucifer was a defiant
archangel who was forsakened by God and banished from heaven. The title, Lucifer
in Starlight, is not a reference to an uprising in hell, but rather a... Show more content

Lucifer is able to relate to Adam in the hopes of being forgiven and given the right
to return to heaven. Poor prey to his hot fit of pride were those (5). He observes
those who will soon be apart of his domain and soon peers at the most extreme
regions of Earth. And now upon his western wing he leaned, Now his huge bulk o er
Afric s sands careened, Now the black planet shadowed Arctic snows (6 8). In the
Bible, it states that the promise of Christ will come from the East, implying that
perhaps Lucifer will come from the other side. Lucifer is essentially floating on the
seas of the rolling ball, which is again referring to Earth, on a bulk, or ship. In the
previous line, he was flying in the skies peering through the clouds, and has now
made his descent onto Earth. His journey ends as his ship turns over on the sands
of Africa. The black planet is Lucifer. The shadow of the planet, hell and darkness,
has darkened the snowy, white regions of the arctic. The evil (black) is covering
what is good (white); Lucifer is attempting a take over. With memory of the old
revolt from Awe, He reached a middle height, and at the stars, Which are the brain

My aspiration toward a better education starts all the way back to when I started
school in Russia. Out of the short educational experience that I had in Russia, I
remember that almost everybody wanted to be the straight A student (or straight 5 by
Russian grading). That, combined with the constant pressure from my family helped
me get excited about school and made me want to learn. My education in Russia was
cut short, however, when we moved to the United States.
In the United States, education is a bit different from Russia. I immediately noticed
that I was not challenged in math. In first grade in Russia, schoolchildren were
learning multiplication, while first graders in the U.S. were still on addition.
Naturally, I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thereafter we had a small move and transferred to a neighboring school district.
Here, I was allowed to skip yet another grade, going on from sixth to eighth. Here, I
had another unique opportunity. I was placed in a mixed grade class, consisting of
both sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. This allowed me to achieve my potential,
while still interacting with a similar age group. While in eighth grade, two Latvian
students joined our class, and I was asked to help them learn English, with their
schedules closely paralleling mine. This was beneficial not only for them, but also for
me, as explaining the intricacies of the English language enabled me to better
understand them myself. Unfortunately, I did not stay in this environment for long.
High school was the next component of the education process. My first
extracurricular activity in high school was the Robotics team. I started by writing
small programs on my calculator to automate math formulas (e.g. the quadratic
formula). My math teacher noticed this and recommended me to the Robotics team,
which needed a programmer at the time. Thus, I began to learn my first
programming language, C (which was later replaced by easyC Pro and LabVIEW).
Consequently, I was drawn to other computer related aspects of Robotics, including
maintaining their website and creating 3D animations for a related contest. There
were no classes I could take in high school, however, to learn all this.

Information Security System Essay
Importance of Information Security Systems:
For managing and administering an organization, an Information Security System
(ISMS) has become extremely significant and its importance is also quite apparent.
The reason behind its increasing significance is the mounting pressure and danger to
the reliability, safekeeping, accessibility and privacy of the information of the
organization. It is also rising directly with the life time and size of the organization,
therefore, this information security system is highly preferred. The information
resources should be guarded by the organization by adopting suitable measures.

* The Internet is innately for public as it is reachable by everyone who lives

every computer in the world with each other. * A decrease in the prices of computers
has resulted in making computing a very common trend which means that nearly
everyone owns a computer now and has enough information about a computer that

technology has made it possible for the internet as well as the information to reach
anywhere at a very low cost and very easily. Thus, it diminishes the apparent value
and essentiality of information and definitely reveals private and sensitive
information increasingly and brings it to a casual reach.

The Importance Of Creating A Website

Abstract This paper will identify some of the reasons why E Bay has problems in the
Asian Markets as an internet auction provider. After examining articles from Philip
Kotler and David Gertner as well as Moon Ihlwan among others, this paper will
provide my answers about why did EBay want to expand globally as well as why
any of these Asian nations wanted their business? It will explain some research

visitors can buy the MP3 player at a special offer price. The seller attracts consumers,
while Gmarket happily hauls in commissions. Another incentive at Gmarket is that
retailers can offer online links to their own mini homepages within the site, issue
discount coupons, run joint mileage points programs, and use an internal messenger
service called G messenger for instant chatting with sellers. Some shops listed on the
site have also drawn traffic by promising to donate 10 cents to a favored charity

mergers to enter the Asian market share and has met negative results. This has had a
negative effect on their overall performance to expense ratio in their stock valuation
from 2000 thru the present time but has not deterred management from continuing to
compete for a market share in Asia. An ongoing joint venture with Yahoo keeps EBay
with a foot in the door of the foreign market and continues the strategic alliance
against Google. EBay has expanded to Southeast Asia to see what they can obtain in
Singapore, Malaysia and through operations in the Philippines. Currently they are

Taking a Look at Cassava
Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is a tuberous root crop that serves as a source of
carbohydrate for more than 800 million people worldwide and its cultivation is
estimated to cover more than 18.9 million hectors (FAO, 2011). It is a vital source
of food and income to resource poor farmers (especially women) in the tropics and
staple foodcrop for nearly 200 million people in the sub Saharan Africa (Liu et al.,
2011; Nyaboga et al., 2013). In Tanzania, cassavaranks only second to maize and
third to rice, with its calories contribution per day being 15 % (FAO 2009).
Cassava production in Africa is constrained with various pests and viral diseases
especially cassava brown streak and cassava mosaic diseases. Research efforts to
genetically improve resistance against viral diseases, drought, postharvest
deterioration and nutrients fortification of this crop are underway (Zang et al.,
2005; Vanderschuren et al., 2009; Nyaboga et al., 2013). All these efforts are
through genetic transformation method which relies on the ability of cassava to
regenerate from somatic embryos to full plant. Due to heterozygozity nature of
cassava, it is difficult to use its zygotic embryos as starting materials for genetic
transformation protocols (Raemakers et al., 1997; Sarria et al., 2000; Taylor et al.,
2001; Siritunga and Sayre 2003). Instead, organised structures from somatic embryo
cotyledons and friable embryogenic calli (FECs) have been developed (Schöpke et
al., 1996; Taylor et al., 2004). FECs

Determining The Standard Error, Or Standard Deviation
Of...
Assignment
Ans 1.1
a) The standard error, or standard deviation of the sample mean, = population
standard deviation/square root of sample size = $10.75/14
b) z = (60 68.30)/10.75 = 0.77
from the z tables we see that the probability that z is less than 0.77 is .2206, so the
probability that x is GREATER than 60 is 1 .2206 = .7794.
c) Now we are dealing with variation of the sample mean, so the standard error is
10.75/sqrt(100) = 1.075
Z = (66 68.30)/1.075 = 2.14, and the associated probability is .0162.
5. 150 138=12 = 1 standard deviation. By the empirical rule, we know that 68% of
the data fall within 1 standard deviation of the mean, above and below. Since the
normal distribution is symmetrical, 34% fall within 1 standard deviation below the
mean (i.e. between 138 and 150). So a score of 138 is the equivalent of a z score of
1. Similarly, a score of 162 is the equivalent of a z score of 1.
By the Empirical Rule, approximately 95% of the data fall within 2 standard
deviations above and below the mean, so that would be from 126 to 174.
Same principle as above, but this time it s plus or minus 3 standard deviations, from
114 to 186.
Ans 1.2:
a) The standard error of the mean, also called the standard deviation of the mean, is a
method used to estimate the standard deviation of a sampling distribution. To
understand this, first we need to understand why a sampling distribution is required.
In statistics, point estimation involves the use of sample data to

  • 2. Cardiovascular Disease Is The Leading Cause Of Death For... Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women and has an average of 610,000 casualties in the United States every year. This could be contributed to the fact that as adults, we tend to lead a very demanding lifestyle and constantly struggle through a never ending to do list that diminishes the majority of our day. Inside our home, the office, events for the holidays, and perhaps even school, our responsibility to take care of ourselves doesn t quite make the priority cutoff. For one thing, it is my understanding I m supposed to exercise at least three times a week. About one in every three U.S. adults has reported that no leisure time was spent doing physical activity to which I can relate. The first hour and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time, with a little research it s never too late to change a bad habit and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Significant progress has been made over the last 50 years in understanding the causes of chronic illnesses, as well as development in areas that provide knowledge to detect, prevent, and maintain comparable diseases. Improvement in public health and health care have increased life expectancy by approximately 30 years and has led to dramatic changes in the leading causes of death. With this information we now have a better understanding of the long term effects our choices will make and those results have already affected the market around us. Fast food chains now provide menu selections for their health conscious customers such as nutritional listings, optional cooking methods, and the use of organic and Non GMO ingredients. Similarly, patients that suffer from congestive heart failure and smoke may be drawn to the more recent e cigarette. Although e cigarettes still have years of long term testing in order to determine their overall hazards and benefits, current research shows that there is potential for smokers to reduce their health related risks if electronic cigarettes are used in place of tobacco cigarettes when on the road to the ending tobacco or nicotine use.
  • 3. Conversion Disorder Conversion disorder is a medical condition where its sufferers present neurological symptoms such as paralysis, numbness, blindness or fits without a known neurological trigger. Conversion disorder, formerly known as hysteria is considered a psychiatric disorder by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which classifies it as a somatoform disorder. Contrary, World Health Organization s International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) classifies it as a dissociative disorder. The diagnosis of this neurological disorder has been problematic in the past, since doctors have conceptually and practically differentiated its symptoms from those of neurological diseases for which it is known to be. Most psychologists have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diagnosis of conversion disorder involves three elements all of which present some degree of controversy. These three elements are: the exclusion of neurological disease, feigning and finally the determination of a psychological mechanism. During the first stage, conversion disorder may resemble neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, stroke or epilepsy therefore they must be carefully excluded through appropriate examinations. In rare cases, patients with neurological disease may also have conversion disorder, which further complicates the determination of the degree of the conversion disorder in the patient. Exclusion of conscious simulation is only possible where a patient confesses or is caught out in a broader deception. Lastly, establishment of a psychological mechanism is the most difficult aspect of conversion disorder diagnosis. DSM IV recommends that clinicians assume preceding stressors to be associated with the progress of the disorder which is still a subject of debate. Notably, cultural influences have been noted to affect the somatoform disorders. Cultures such as the Puerto Rican and the Greek are known to report higher rates of somatization disorders among the men than is the case in the United States. In addition, cases of somatization disorders are less common among persons with higher levels of education compared to the less educated. According to Robert (2002), rates are higher outside of the west, which can be attributed to

Compressed air is introduced at nozzle to increase the velocity of application. b) Dry process: In dry mix process, compressed air propels premixed mortar and damp aggregate and at the nozzle end water is added through a separate hose. The dry mix and water through the second hose are projected on to a prepared surface. Surface preparation before shotcreting involves a thorough cleaning and removing all loose aggregate and roughening the existing concreting surface for improved bond. Shotcrete frequently has high shrinkage characteristics and measures to prevent cracks using adequate reinforcement and proper curing is always necessary. The shotcrete surface can be lift as sprayed which is somewhat rough. If a smoother surface is required, a thin layer can be sprayed on the hardened shotcrete and then reworked and finished to the required texture or plaster can be applied. The
  • 5. Effects Of Media Violence On Society Effects of Media on Society Media violence has numerous negative consequences on youth today to commit criminal acts in the society. Violence in the media will never be stopped as long as the society spends more time on violent movies and video games. Media violence has been tremendously growing and attaining the hazardous extents. Around 60 % of TV shows contain some kind of violence. Most self involving video games contain some violent matter in it. For example, if you manufacture guns, you do not need to give any advertisement, because it is done by the amusement industry. Aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, hallucinations, and fear of being mishandled were caused by the media violence, was explained in a 2009 Policy Statement on Media Violence, by the American Academy of Pediatrics (Arline, 2012). The increase in aggressive behavior happens by watching violent video shows on TV, and by playing violent video games. The researchers found that boys and girls who played a lot of violent video games changed over the school year. Media violence is not probable to convert a child into a violent criminal. But, someday by just smoking a cigarette can increase the likelihood of a lung cancer. Likewise, a violent show can increase the likelihood of behaving in an aggressive way (Bushman and Huesmann, p. 248). There are many reasons to be worried about the level of violence in the society, it is clearly simplistic and confusing to hold that the major cause of criminal

  • 7. Propaganda Of Art Within The Ussr, Dprk, And The Prc PROPAGANDA IN ART WITHIN THE USSR, DPRK, AND THE PRC PREPARED FOR MRS. BELLINI BY ANDREW BI STUDENT NUMBER: 676025 COURSE: AVI101 MARCH 13 2015 GORDON GRAYDON MEMORIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL What is Propaganda? Art is a powerful thing. It has fueled revolutions, cultural movements, and wars. (Axelrod, 2015 Art Power in North Korea). However, when art is only a mouthpiece for the government s agenda, it ceases to be a medium for true communication. In this way, people are stripped of a powerful means for expression (Axelrod, 2015 Art Power in North Korea). This is called propaganda. Now what is propaganda, might the reader ask? Propaganda is the spread of political, philosophical, scientific, artistic, and others views and ideas with a view to their implementation (Great Soviet Encyclopedia, 2011). Propaganda has proven itself again and again to be the most decisive tool in most conflicts, as by using propaganda you are molding the minds of your people, eliminating dissent and gaining overwhelming support for anything you wish. It is once said by the famous American general Douglas A.Macarthur that One cannot wage war under present conditions without the support of public opinion, which is tremendously molded by the press and other forms of propaganda (Chicago Tribune, March 3 1942 Pg.3). Some of the biggest users of propaganda were communist countries such as the USSR, China, North Korea. But first, I d like to explain what communism is. What is Communism?
  • 8. Brainwashing In Brave New World Aldous Huxley s Brave New World incorporates the political ploy of brainwashing and uses it to promote the common belief. While the term brainwashing was coined during the Cold War era, it still carries heavy implications and often suggests harsh techniques. Subsequently, brainwashing can be seen as ridding a person of their own ideology and replacing it with a more suitable collection of thoughts. Through techniques of mass education, thought control, and depravation of critical judgment, the World Controllers in the Brave New Worldare brainwashing their citizens and creating a perpetual state of dependency and confusion, serving as a warning for modern civilizations. The premature mass education of children exposes them to a predetermined ideology and imprisons them to the immoral laws of society. Huxley illustrates this by describing the Brave New World s process of hypnopaedia, a sleep invoked teaching method. While this meets the Central Intelligence Agency s criteria of brainwashing, mass education, it goes beyond the bare minimal definition (United States 3). Hypnopaedia takes advantage of the naГЇve and influenceable mind of young children. By teaching children phrases such as, I m really awfully glad I m a Beta and Gammas are stupid, World Controllers are establishing what they consider the correct social hierarchy (Huxley 27). This restricts the individual citizen s ability to establish their own beliefs and feelings toward other people. When combined with
  • 9. Attenuation Types Of Photon Energy The CBCT is relatively recent technology, with the first commercial scanner being introduced in 1998 for dental imaging (87) This is a type of CT that uses a cone X ray beam instead of the conventional fan beam (88). For standard full field of view for CBCT, polychromatic X rays are generated from a source tube excited by 100 120 kV tube potential with 1.5 10 mA current (89). The emitted X ray photon energy is absorbed by materials located beВ¬tween the X ray source and detector. The remaining energy after absorption is recorded on a detector as expressed by intensity (I) that represents energy per area and time. For example, the flat panel detector consists of a pixel array of hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin film transistors (88). A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1. Larger detectors have a greater chance of encountering the scattered X ray phoВ¬tons leading to streak artefacts during reconstruction proВ¬cess for the CBCT image (90). Beam hardening occur as the energy levels of polychromatic X ray beams used in the CBCT are not identical, the lower energy photons can be easily absorbed at the edges of the scanned subject resulting in hardening of the X ray beam, which produces lower gray values toward the center of the subject (cupВ¬ping artifact) even if the density of the subject is homogeВ¬nous (91) Defects or un calibrated components in the detector may cause ring artefacts with concentric rings in the CBCT imВ¬age. Scanning dense metallic materials can cause severe streaking artifacts when their gray values exceed the maxi mum level of operation that the software can handle (91). Shading or streaking artefacts may be observed when the gray values are incorrectly registered due to patient motion during CBCT scanning (90,91) This artefact comВ¬monly appears as double contours in the CBCT image. To date, CBCT based BMD measurement has been used mainly to estimate bone properties for dental implantaВ¬tion (92). The BMD measured from CBCT images showed a better predicting power to estimate cortical bone fracВ¬ture than assessed by the conventional DXA images (93). More applications are performed for the diagnosis of oral bone disease, improvement of orthodontic treatment,

A Literature Review On Opioid-Free General Anesthesia Versus A Literature Review on Opioid Free General Anesthesia versus Opioid Based General Anesthesia for Bariatric Surgery Ina Basha University of New England One third of the American adult population is considered to be overweight, a figure that is still on the rise. Numerous studies have presented the negative impacts that obesity has on health and how every organ system in the human body is affected. When minimally invasive strategies such as life style changes fail, bariatric surgery procedures have become the other option. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, obesity does not merely affect the individual alone, but an entire society. With a prevalence of one third of adults considered to be overweight (not dealing with childhood obesity, which is becoming an epidemic in its own right), more patients are turning to surgery as a solution. In 1992 there were 16,200 bariatric surgical procedures in the United States and by 2008 that number had increased to 220,000 (Schumann, 2010). This paper aims at answering the following question: In obese adults undergoing bariatric surgery, how does opioid free anesthesia compare to opioid based general anesthesia and its effect on post operative outcomes in terms of post operative pain, post operative nausea and vomiting (PONV), and length of stay in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU)? Bariatric surgery is the last resort for morbidly obese patients who have tried other options, such as diet and exercise, but have fallen short from obtaining their desired health goals. The surgery is safe and effective, but as with any surgery, there are risks involved. Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has put forth very specific criteria that must be met before bariatric surgery can be performed on a patient. The Obesity Action Coalition

They read the News Paper to find out if they got caught. I don t remember reading this story in the News Paper, but everybody knew about it anyway. There was a young mandriving along a lonely, dark and narrow road just north of town one night. As the road approached the river bridge, there was a slight turn in the road. The boy failed to make the curve and his automobile plunged into the river. Shortly, another vehicle came into view and as it rounded the curve, the driver saw the half submerged automobile. He stopped, jumped into the river and after quite a struggle he freed the young man, and saved his life. A few weeks later that same young man was taken before the court judge and charged with a very serious crime. To the young man s amazement, the judge was the same man who had saved his life at the river that night. After the charges were made, the judge asks the young man, Do you have anything to say for yourself? The young man said, Sir, you can t condemn me to die, because you are the one who saved my life just a few weeks ago when you pulled me from the river. The judge said, Son, on that day I was your savior, today I am your judge. I wanted to tell that story so I could remind you of another Savior and Judge; the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord is gentle and kind. (James 3:17). He is all loving (Eph. 5:25)

Aristotle believes doing the right thing is about continually practicing it, moral virtue comes about as a result of habit . Kant declares doing the right thing is about acting freely, that is autonomously, and acting morally, according to the categorical imperative, are one and the same . John Stuart Mill believes in doing the right thing to obtain the most utility or happiness. Each philosopher has a different belief of justice. It truly relies on the individual in the situation to do what they see is fit. The philosophers help with doing the right thing because they break down the options of ways to act and provide reasoning for each. When faced with a moral dilemma, we can use these philosophers ideas and their sociological beliefs to make an informed decision. The only issue is that everyone agrees with a different philosopher, but we all end up doing the right thing or at least what we can reason was the right thing to do. As developing citizens we have to decide whom we relate more to in that situation and act appropriately without harming others. Sometimes, we take a little bit of every philosopher s ideas to make a decision and that is acceptable. b. The philosopher that I most connect with is Aristotle. He argues that justice means giving people what they deserve, giving each person his or her due . This I understand because everyone is entitled to getting what

  • 19. Feminism And Feminism Throughout history government and politics has been a patriarchal system; controlled by men. In recent years this system has been challenged as women have recently been gaining traction in the political world, after a past of zero tolerance of women in politics there is still a major issue with the number of women in the political realm. Women are underrepresented in politics and government because although men in politics like to fight for equal rights for women, in reality they are hesitant to follow through at the cost of losing their own foothold in the political world. According to Oxford English Dictionary, feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. Since feminism came to be, it has always been a crucial part of society. But not only is it a social ______ but it is also political, ever since the movement for women s rights began in the 1840 s. There are many theories with regards to feminism and politics. One of these theories is Liberal Feminism. The Liberals ideology is that freedom is a fundamental value, and that the state ensures freedom for individuals. Liberal feminists hold the same views and insist on freedom for women. Liberals in general believe that freedom comes from personal autonomy and political autonomy; making personal choices that affects one s life, and helping to co author the conditions of the government which one may live under. The liberals also believed that in order to exercise personal autonomy

These definitions may not be so indubitable as John Gardner takes a hero and villain to a whole new level in his novel, Grendel. Throughout the years of novels and short stories, heroes and villains have been constructed as strictly good versus evil, but what if there is good in evil and evil in good? Grendel and the epic, Beowulf, revolve around this idea of heroes and villains and good versus evil. Also, NGO s sometimes have to partner with bigger for profit companies in order to target a larger consumer base, thus, solidifying the fact that the for profit and non profit sector have to team together in order to sustain the environment in which we inhabit. Business, Sustainability and Poverty, Jacqueline Novogratz This plenary begins by stating that a financial crisis occurs when people in the markets do not trust each other. Trust is what makes a society fair. Corruption flourishes upon weaknesses in economic, political, and social institutions, and this diverts economic growth by eroding the quality of public goods. In this age, income equality has increased across countries due to globalization and technology; however, income inequality within countries has increased as

  • 38. The Baroque Period Of The Baroque And Classical Period At this time last year, I would have considered all music before the 20th century to be classical. However, after taking a Dual Credit Music Appreciation course, I realized that old music cannot simply be grouped into a single category. There are so many differences that I had no idea existed. Throughout the years, music has changed and evolved, meeting the needs of listeners and performers. Different composers have been catalysts in this change as they have developed new styles and genres. Even though the classical period is directly subsequent of the baroque period, baroque and classical music have countless different qualities and characteristics. The baroque period of music commenced in the year 1600 and ended around 1750 (Fuller Baroque ). Its texture was mainly polyphonic (Fuller Classical ). Polyphonic means that two or more different melodies are played simultaneously (McComb). This provides an energetic rhythm, long melodies, and many ornaments. The most famous composers of this time period were Vivaldi, Corelli, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, J.S. Bach, and Couperin. Many new styles of music were introduced, such as operas, sonatas, oratorios, suites, fugues, and concertos. Orchestras began to develop, but it was not until the classical period when orchestral music was perfected (Fuller Baroque ). In 1750, the classical period of music started, and it terminated in 1810. The texture was primarily homophonic (Fuller Classical ), which means there is

Since symbolist theater is interested in the internal landscape of the subconscious, mood and atmosphere were more important than exciting reversals and climaxes The major conflict in the plot of Interior by Maurice Maeterlinck, the Old Man is working up the courage to tell the family that one of the daughters has drown. The plot of the play is fairly simple because Maeterlinck s intention for the play was to peer into ordinary life and focus on the elements that people tend to overlook in day to day life. This is one of the major elements that makes this play purely symbolists and not close to a melodrama. In order to make this play into a melodrama three major elements would need to change: addition of spectacle in the presentation of the play, comedic relief to offset the serious plot, and the addition of background music. Adding Spectacle The play Interior is driven by the death of one of the families daughters. One way to add spectacle to this play to swap the style from symbolist to a melodrama, would be to add a prologue that details the daughter s death. The purpose of spectacle is to animate the desired audience emotional response. By having a brief prologue that shows

By creating this website, it would be amazing to incorporate all forms of software development such as design, databases, and structure. In this website, it was essential to add a substantial amount of color, diversity, and a plethora of helpful cinematography links to access later. Additionally, when adding the colors and font to my website, I want to make the contrast viewable,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Users have come to expect highly responsive and interactive user interfaces. On my reproduction site for Tony Chip, I added a fun little animated gesture just in case my users needed help being guided around the website. Tiny little gesture can say Don t be scary, click me if you have a Query, or Click me if you re lost . Most people have a hard time trying to find things on a site, by doing this you re ending the hassle that can be hard for users when viewing your site. Adding videos to websites play an important role also. This can be a tutorial video, or even a fun video welcoming new, and returning users to the website page. On my webpage, I deiced to add both. I added a few tutorial videos on how to use the site, who is Tony Chip, what is the company, and its products, along with how to order them. I also added a welcome video to my followers thanking them for choosing my webpage to view the companies fantastic success stories and other people that purchase from the company. Also, to reduce the redundancy of other sites we decided to add tutorials, and videos of my users are uploading their best photos. When approaching the topic of designing a website layout, sometimes you can over construct ideas, so it best to get the pen to paper, and merely sketch out an idea layout of your website. I made sure that my web page was easy to navigate, easy for users to locate content on each page, and easy for users to find what they need on
  • 55. Ebay Problems in Asian Markets TUI UNIVERSITY Robert M. Brown Jr. Module 1 Case Assignment, Why does E Bay have problems in its Asian Markets? Course Number: International Business 401 Dr. Fadia Alkhalil February 15, 2011 Abstract This paper will identify some of the reasons why E Bay has problems in the Asian Markets as an internet auction provider. After examining articles from Philip Kotler and David Gertner as well as Moon Ihlwan among others, this paper will provide my answers about why did EBay want to expand globally as well as why any of these Asian nations wanted their business? It will explain some research explored about what types of Entry decisions the company used in the Asian Markets. Utilizing the knowledge gained about the history of ... The seller attracts consumers, while Gmarket happily hauls in commissions. Another incentive at Gmarket is that retailers can offer online links to their own mini homepages within the site, issue discount coupons, run joint mileage points programs, and use an internal messenger service called G messenger for instant chatting with sellers. Some shops listed on the site have also drawn traffic by promising to donate 10 cents to a favored charity every time a product is sold... 2 Thus far EBay has attempted joint ventures and mergers to enter the Asian market share and has met negative results. This has had a negative effect on their overall performance to expense ratio in their stock valuation from 2000 thru the present time but has not deterred management from continuing to compete for a market share in Asia. An ongoing joint venture with Yahoo keeps EBay with a foot in the door of the foreign market and continues the strategic alliance against Google. EBay has expanded to Southeast Asia to see what they can obtain in Singapore, Malaysia and through operations in the Philippines. Currently they are doing promotional sites in Thailand and Vietnam to gauge future profits in those nations as

Taking a Look at Cassava Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is a tuberous root crop that serves as a source of carbohydrate for more than 800 million people worldwide and its cultivation is estimated to cover more than 18.9 million hectors (FAO, 2011). It is a vital source of food and income to resource poor farmers (especially women) in the tropics and staple foodcrop for nearly 200 million people in the sub Saharan Africa (Liu et al., 2011; Nyaboga et al., 2013). In Tanzania, cassavaranks only second to maize and third to rice, with its calories contribution per day being 15 % (FAO 2009). Cassava production in Africa is constrained with various pests and viral diseases especially cassava brown streak and cassava mosaic diseases. Research efforts to genetically improve resistance against viral diseases, drought, postharvest deterioration and nutrients fortification of this crop are underway (Zang et al., 2005; Vanderschuren et al., 2009; Nyaboga et al., 2013). All these efforts are through genetic transformation method which relies on the ability of cassava to regenerate from somatic embryos to full plant. Due to heterozygozity nature of cassava, it is difficult to use its zygotic embryos as starting materials for genetic transformation protocols (Raemakers et al., 1997; Sarria et al., 2000; Taylor et al., 2001; Siritunga and Sayre 2003). Instead, organised structures from somatic embryo cotyledons and friable embryogenic calli (FECs) have been developed (Schöpke et al., 1996; Taylor et al., 2004). FECs

Progression to their chosen industry career follows and it is hoped that through their academic endeavours prospective employers will view their achievement as giving them an advantage over other applicants. However, for others while the sense of achievement is no less academia is regarded as their career choice and gaining a First Class Honours Degree furnishes them with the tool that allows progress within their chosen academic field. As a mature student from a building trade background, there was an appreciation of the challenges that lay ahead returning to higher education with the
  • 58. Determining The Standard Error, Or Standard Deviation Of... Assignment Ans 1.1 a) The standard error, or standard deviation of the sample mean, = population standard deviation/square root of sample size = $10.75/14 b) z = (60 68.30)/10.75 = 0.77 from the z tables we see that the probability that z is less than 0.77 is .2206, so the probability that x is GREATER than 60 is 1 .2206 = .7794. c) Now we are dealing with variation of the sample mean, so the standard error is 10.75/sqrt(100) = 1.075 Z = (66 68.30)/1.075 = 2.14, and the associated probability is .0162. 5. 150 138=12 = 1 standard deviation. By the empirical rule, we know that 68% of the data fall within 1 standard deviation of the mean, above and below. Since the normal distribution is symmetrical, 34% fall within 1 standard deviation below the mean (i.e. between 138 and 150). So a score of 138 is the equivalent of a z score of 1. Similarly, a score of 162 is the equivalent of a z score of 1. By the Empirical Rule, approximately 95% of the data fall within 2 standard deviations above and below the mean, so that would be from 126 to 174. Same principle as above, but this time it s plus or minus 3 standard deviations, from 114 to 186. Ans 1.2: a) The standard error of the mean, also called the standard deviation of the mean, is a method used to estimate the standard deviation of a sampling distribution. To understand this, first we need to understand why a sampling distribution is required. In statistics, point estimation involves the use of sample data to
