This clip is from the 1929 movie, Un Chien Andalou. This film uses two specific formal choices that
illustrate it s surrealism, including discontinuity editing and close ups. Discontinuity editing in this
film went against Hollywood s continuity rules of seamlessly blending scenes together that not only
made narrative sense, but visual sense as well. However in Un Chien Andalou, these rules are
broken by obscure, random images that don t seem to fit together and lack any narrative sense.
In the clip, we see a scene of a man staring at his hand where ants are crawling out of a hole, then
we see an image of a person s underarm hair that soon transitions into a picture of a sea urchin.
These series of images don t make much sense when put together, yet they illustrate the surreality
of the mind and how our thought patterns often lack any significance. The swarming of the ants
in the hand is an example of lack of pattern because it symbolizes the fragmented or swarming
images of our mind. These scenes are not only non linear, but they are also discontinuous and
show that our reality is constantly evolving; we walk away with a different interpretation of the
movie each time. Another formal choice that Un Chien Andalou uses is the close up, we see this
used in the first few minutes of the clip when the women s eye is cut. The use of the close up in
this scene brings this grotesque act to the forefront, where we cannot help but look away every
time we see it.

Cultural Diversity is the existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups within a society. There
are many processes of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity. First, there is the obvious discord
between Walt and the young Father of the church. This situation presents cultural differences of

photosynthesis, but pollution can also indirectly harm other elements that contribute to the life of a
plant and the cycles it performs.
Photosynthesis is the cycle in which light energy converts carbon dioxide and water into glucose
and oxygen by ways of a chemical reaction (Robinson 2015). Photosynthesis , overall a fairly
simple process, has couple complex reactions. To fully understand the cycle, it should be broken
down into two simple stages. These stages can be divided up into light reactions and the Calvin
Cycle. In the first step of photosynthesis, the light reaction, solar energy is converted into the form
of chemical energy. This entails the chlorophyll absorbing light from the sun and transforming it
into NADP+ (nicotin amide ademine dinucleotide phosphate) and ATP, through means of a
chemical reaction. During the second stage, the Calvin cycle, the plant takes in CO2, and

In my chosen field of school psychology, correlational research is a great research method in
order to build various support groups, interventions, and an overall warm school climate. One topic
that I am specifically interested in is the relation of self esteem and bullying. I would predict that
there would be a negative correlation between the two variables, as I believe that bullyingis
prominently done by those students whom have lower levels of self esteem.
Research Question: How is self esteem related to bullying?
I believe that this research question would be most supported by correlational research because
the results will allow me to see if there is a relationship between self esteem and bullying. If I find
that there is in fact a relationship, then I will have the ability to build programs within the school
that focus on self esteem in order to reduce, or stop, bullying from happening. To begin, I would
assign self esteem as the predictor variable and bullying as the outcome variable.
