Ban Of Ban On Tobacco
Those in favor of the ban on tobacco advertisements and sponsoring of cultural and sporting events
in India noted that they were not the first country to be taking these steps. In fact, many European
countries had previously invoked bans on tobacco beginning decades before. In both Belgium and
France the ban was deemed to be constitutional as the main motivator behind this ban was public
health, and not necessarily the desire to stop the tobaccoindustry from partaking in trade. Beyond
that, it was noted that many industries that trade in dangerous or potentially dangerous products
had already undergone these restrictions or bans on advertisement and sponsorship.
With the World Health Organization having focused heavily on tobacco related illnesses and
deaths, they were able to present the data that tobacco deaths were increasing quickly. In 1990
there were more than 3 million deaths, and by 1998, over four million. Even more alarming was
that was the estimate that tobacco related deaths would number almost 8 and a half million in
2020 and 10 million in 2030. These figures are striking and for those in support of the ban on
tobacco advertising are clear indicators that something must be done. The tobacco industry had
already come under fire for targeting youth in their advertisements, with one notable example being
Joe Camel , the animated mascot of Camel cigarettes. RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company was
required to remove Joe from all their advertisements after a

The Demise Of The Qing Dynasty
Many people argued that Empress Dowager Cixi accelerated the speed of the demise of the Qing
dynasty. Cixi might be a blasting fuse but she was not accounted for the final fall of the dynasty.
The actions Cixi took had profoundly changed the foundation of feudal China so as to push China
forward into a modern stage. Although many historical data suggested that whatever Cixi had done
were to consolidate her authority and personal status. But no matter what, the impact on the
country was obvious. Cixi broke the previous traditions from Confucianism that had been lasted
for centuries. Tensions between the Manchus and Han Chinese had been greatly improved, which
made a great contribution to China for later unification. Under the reign of the Empress Dowager,
the social structure had undergone a series of changes. Qing s demise is doomed, this was
resulted from issues that had stacked up from previous generations. Moreover, Cixi did her best to
secure China s status in the world in such a chaotic period in history. She made undeniable
contributions to China. Confucianism is a traditional ideology that has already penetrated into
every Chinese head. Its main principle is to follow the past, changes and new technologies or new
objects are not necessary. Whatever happened in the past are the best standards to follow. The way
that Qing government responded after being defeated in the Opium War was shocking from current
perspective. China accepted all the unfair treaties to cover the

Mills Pleasures
Do you agree with Mill s assertion that some pleasures are higher than others? What would you
consider higher and lower pleasures?
Mental pleasures are intrinsically superior to physical pleasures, as well as circumstantially. The
evidence Mill appeals to in support of his claim that there are different kinds of pleasures and that
some are superior to others is the experience of mankind. Those who are acquainted with both sorts
of pleasures do prefer the higher pleasures. (P.10)
I can somewhat agree with Mills that some pleasures can be considered higher than others. Mills
asserted that mental pleasures were superior to physical pleasures, However, I feel that it is for
each individual to say what is a higher form of pleasure for them.

Theme Of Futility In The Thousand Faces Of Night
Alone in the house with Mayamma, an old house keeper, and Baba s orphaned books after his
departure for New York, Devi was engulfed by an awesome loneliness and a wave of uselessness.
Her sense of futility overwhelmed her as both the men she had trusted and loved, her father and
father in law escaped from the tortured grip of the pain, loneliness and guilt (84), by dying and her
gentle mother in law, Parvathiamma by fleeing the house in search of God long before her
arrival. Drawn to Kritya in Baba s books more than the kritis he quoted earlier, Devi was filled
with furry as she was expected to swallow her hard earned education and follow her husband s self

Mayamma, the old caretaker cum governess cum cook at Mahesh s house, lived all her life
satisfying others. Married at twelve to a useless gambler who came to her every night, his large
hairy thighs rough and heaving on her (80), she knew no happiness in marriage. When two years of
marriage brought forth no child, she incurred the wrath of her mother in law, did penance to
change the course of her life, invoked the names of all the gods and goddesses in the Hindu
pantheon, till she finally gave birth to a male child. Eight years later her husband worn into
middle age, with dissipated excess, disappeared taking with him all the money in the house.
Though Mayamma never saw him again, she found his replica in their son. A wastrel from birth,
he threatened and cursed and even beat his mother till he finally caught fever and died: The day
he died, Mayamma wept as she had not done for years. She wept for her youth, her husband, the
culmination of a life s handiwork: now all these had been snatched form her (82). On that day
leaving behind her home forever, Mayamma came to Parvatiamma s Mahesh s mother house and
stayed on to tend to the kitchen and

Experiencing Bollywood
Experiencing Bollywood: An Avant garde Attempt Introduction Bollywood has been characterised
for its larger than life plots, elaborate song and dance sequences, melodramatic acting which
underpins the Indian social framework. With the advent of globalisation, it has paved way for a
wider variety of film genres and has managed to reach out to audiences beyond the Indian diaspora.
Constantly pushing the envelope at various junctures, the Bollywood phenomenon has become
prominent in the world today. The primary mode in which Bollywood is encountered is through
cinemas. Cinema has the unique ability to interact with its audiences with such intimacy and
immediacy that gives filmmakers the access to communicate their work, creativity... Show more

Hence before viewing the film, the ambience of Bollywood is brought forth. However food and
snacks were still limited to the usual popcorn. Based on my research, Bombay Talkies, where I
had initially planned to go, sold Indian snacks which may have further heightened the
Bollywood atmosphere. An important element of the cinema going experience is the ticket. The
ticket serves different purposes As a form of theatre branding; generic information such as date,
time and cinema hall of screening; entry access for the soon to be viewer; and possible
memento. Hence the ticket holds practical meaning and possible attachment with the past
presence of viewing the movie. But advancements in technology have replaced this tangible
nostalgia as this cinema is the first to introduce an auto gate system via a confirmed booking
code sent to a moviegoer s phone enabling them to scan this code for entry. This has been
introduced to more cinemas around Singapore as well. While this caters to more efficient crowd
management, it disrupts the nostalgic sentiment in the moviegoer. While I was expecting a
predominantly North Indian crowd for the evening showtime slot, I was surprised to see a wide
spectrum of people present. Apart from my friend and I being Tamil, there was a young Indian
(Tamil) couple as well; some North Indians, an old couple in their 50s and some teenage girls; 2
Chinese mid aged women; and the majority of the theatre (seating capacity 208), which was

How Is Liesel Portrayed In The Book Thief
In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak there are many book thieves portrayed throughout the novel.
Some steal books for malicious intent while others steal for self improvement. The thief that is
focused on most is Liesel Meminger. She steals books to educate herself and escape from her own
hectic world into another. The titles of the books she steals help to show situations she has
encountered and situations she is trying to avoid. The title of the novel represents thieves such as
Liesel, Adolf Hitler, and Death and why they stole books. Liesel stole The Gravedigger s
Handbook, The Shoulder Shrug, The Dream Carrier, and many other books. Liesel stole her first
book from the gravedigger that buried her brother, Werner Meminger. The handbook starts out as
something to remember her brother but then becomes something to learn from when her foster
parent, Hans Hubermann, teaches Liesel how to read. She begins both reading and stealing to
educate herself and to become a more independent person. With her newfound knowledge,... Show

The first book she stole is titled The Gravedigger s Handbook. It represents the death of Liesel s
brother and the exorbitant numbers of deaths from World War II. It also represents the start of

Jewish protagonist and represents the destruction of information through book burnings like the
one Liesel got this book from. The title shows the doubts that the Jews have of their survival
during World War II. Liesel stole The Dream Carrier, The Last Human Stranger, and other books

Cosmopolitanism In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Taken away as a child, confused, lost and traumatized. What are you supposed to think when you
are in the midst of being taken away of everything you are known too? Of course, this is unjustified
and the government has to prevent the kidnapping of a child. However, in a country that is not
cosmopolitan enough is not able to prevent this. Cosmopolitan is the sophisticated or experienced
country that is matured. Yet, in the book Things fall apartis an acclaimed African Tribe that respect
culture and traditions. In the novel Things fall apart, Ikemefuna is taken away from his family due
to a murder he had nothing to do with. Ikemefuna faced the charges of a guilty man while being
innocent and everyone knew that. If Ikemefuna faced more cosmopolitan principles, Ikemefuna
fate would have been different. When one applies Kwame Anthony Appiah s idea that a person s
beliefs are only rational relative to the beliefs he already possesses it in Cosmopolitanismto
Ikemefuna in Chinua Achebes Things Fall Apart, the character fate is justified in their beliefs but
not in the cosmopolitan view.
In the beginning of the book Ikemefuna is dragged away from his native home to a new tribe.
As stated in the text, to carry a message of war to their enemies unless they agreed to give up a
young man and a virgin to atone for the murder of Udo s wife (Things fall apart 27) It is not
justified to give up a young man that had nothing to do with the murder. If the tribe has a more

Social Factors That Influence The Patient Doctor Relationship
Social Factors in Health 1: Name five social factors that influence the Patient Doctor
Relationship? There are many social factors that can impact on the Doctor Patient relationships
everything from race to gender. To break it down and find five, I started with Doctors personal
views he is under pressure to be ethical when he may not entirely be accepting of a person s
beliefs or sexuality. For instance a doctor may be homophobic and have a patient attend surgery
asking for advice on practicing safe sex and being HIV aware. Following on from this may be a
patients confidence in doctors due to race for example a person who has racist issues would not
feel comfortable attending a foreign doctors surgery. To find a third I would have to say gender
being a female I tend to talk easier to a female doctor, which persists problems as my female
doctor only works three days a week so I put off going to see the male doctor so therefore remain
ill longer. My fourth factor is age, as the doctor could be old and the patient adolescent. This
would impact on different generations living different lifestyles and changing societies.
Adolescence is indeed a tempestuous period , (Thorne, B Lambers.1998). Finally I find language
barriers a major social factor as if you can t understand what your doctor is saying to you it has
complications in treatment and there is not always a translator available. 2: Discuss how
functionalists/ interactionalists / Marxists might view these

Religion Is Not A Problem With Religion
Religion can unquestionably establish bonds amongst communities and societies. The encouraging
role of faith has tended to be overlooked due to other world affairs. Emile Durkheim summarised
religion as body of practices and beliefs that act as a basis of identification. Therefore theoretical
understandings can demonstrate that terrorism is not a problem with religion. Durkheim went
further by declaring that religion maintains social order and allows for social cohesion
(Boundless, 2015). According to Emile Durkheim all societies have religion which offers meaning
to life as well as enforcing religious morals and norms respectably. Similarly German sociologist
Max Weberconcluded that religion brings meaning to life through specific codes of conducts.
Guidelines are set in order to follow the desired behaviour. This becomes a central element as
Weber believes that humans have always been challenged by crisis which is logically acceptable
(Priya, 2014). As opposed to religion being a problem, scholars have forwarded the idea that
faith controls order and impacts how one is to live in the expectation of a successful afterlife.
Religion also makes us put up with inequalities because of the concept of afterlife. This questions
if terrorism is a problem with a religion. A database was gathered showing terrorist attacks on
American soil from 1980 to 2005. In response to the media effect, data presented considerably
different findings. A figure of 13% was the amount in which

Schools are focusing too much on the label SEN, rather than meeting the needs of the children.
This is seen through current statements outlining the child s SEN and the provision that is
currently in place, but it does not take into account any focus on life outcomes for the child.
Young people leave school without the support that has been in place throughout their schooling
education, which causes many children with SEN to not succeed in adulthood. We want
children and young people with special needs and disabilities to achieve well in their early
years, at school and in college; find employment; lead happy and fulfilled lives; and have choice
and control over their support. DfE, 2014 The SEND Code of Practice will implement new
approaches for support from birth to 25 for persons with SEN, including their parents and careers
and ensuring they are fully involved, which will help lead to better outcomes. The SEND Code of
Practice will be replacing statements with EHC s. EHC s are Educational, Health and Care plans.
ECH s are a person centre approach, focusing on outcome rather than the provision for the child at
that time. An EHC allows the child, parents/careers and practitioners to have support post early
education and have support through adulthood. It included a multi agency approach to ensure that

A Brief Biography of Lois-Jacques-MandГ© Daguerre
Louis Jacques MandГ© Daguerre Louis Jacques MandГ© Daguerre is historically recognized as
a French artist, a mirror manufacturer, a skilled panoramic painter, and more notably, one the
Founding Fathers of Photography. While Founding Father of Photography is an impressive
name to boast, in the scientific community he is known an accomplished chemist credited with
recording some of the first tangible (non drawn) two dimensional images of our three
dimensional world. Louis Daguerre was born on November 18, 1787 in a French commune
called Cormeilles en Parisis in Val d Oise, France. During his life, he studied and worked heavily
with theatre, design, and stage illusions. His experiments led him to become a prestigious
architect and set artist, later inventing the Diorama, a mobile theatre with set pieces which
allowed for the illusion of effects like snow, sunsets, moonlit nights, and rainbows. Because his
craftsmanship required great accuracy, Daguerre saw it important to capture nature as is . He
utilized the camera obscura, dating back to to 470 BCE to optically project images onto a plane
for tracing. Daguerre would eventually adapt concepts used in the camera obscura for his own
work with daguerrotypes. In 1829, at the age of 42, Daguerre partnered with a chemist/inventor
named NicГ©phore NiГ©pce to continue experimentation with NiГ©pce s creation, the heliograph.

Liver is known as the metabolic port of entry for any endobiotic and xenobiotic substance. The
anabolism and catabolism of most of the nutrients are in major performed by the liver.
Carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism by the liver is of significance as the anomalies in
metabolism of these nutrients may introduce several types of metabolic syndromes. The protective
effects of aqueous green tea extract have been shown on hyperglycaemia, hyperlipidaemia and liver
dysfunction in diabetic and obese rat models [74]. Different nutrients combinations were tested in a
long term feeding in experimental mouse model. Regional and continental food habit and practices
are very much different. Effects of Western, vegetarian, and Japanese dietary fat... Show more

Compared to diabetic control rats, total antioxidant levels were significantly increased in GTE
supplemented rats. Inversely, malondialdehyde levels and AT(1) receptor were significantly lower
in the GTE supplemented diabetic group [77]. Catechin and its derivatives in green tea are shown
to be therapeutically very effective.
Catechin has been shown to modulate the hepatic microsomal phospholipase A2 activities. It can
change the hepatic phospholipid species in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats [78]. On the other
hand epigallocatechin gallate, a constituent of green tea, represses the hepatic glucose production.
EGCG also mimics insulin by increasing phosphoinositide 3 kinase, mitogen activated protein
kinase. Furthermore, EGCG has been shown to regulate genes that encode gluconeogenic
enzymes and protein tyrosine phosphorylation by modulating the redox state of the cell. These
finding suggest that EGCG, or derivatives can perform as antidiabetic agent [79]. Green tea has
also been shown in vivo to down regulate the hepatic gluconeogenic gene expressions of enzymes.
The results of this study support the idea that green tea intake may be favorable in the prevention
of diabetes mellitus [80]. Diabetes is multi causal disease. Even the onset of the disease is caused
by a single factor but its progression and pathogenesis may be attributed by a number of
confounding factors. So, in some

The Importance Of Narrative Writing
Narrative Writing is a story that is told and the order in which it is told. Some stories have
narrators and some without. The narrator is normally a series of characters or one character who
tell the story. Sometimes narrative writing can be classified as fiction writing which is a made up
from start to finish. When there is narrativewritingthat is based on true stores, then the narrative
writing is non fiction. Most narrative writing in the law enforcement sector is a how to format
or a guideline on how a report should be written. It also explains the actual facts on how a crime
occurred during the investigation. According to the text Biggs (2016), There are five rules of
narrative writing. The first rule of narrative writing is, the report should always be written in
first person. When the narrative explains first person, the narrative is stating that using I or Me
in the reports identify the author of the person who is writing the investigative report. If I or Me
is not being used to write the investigative reports, the investigation could be sought as made up
or fake. The second rule of narrative writing is, the report should also be written in past tense
along with first person view. According to the text, If you write in the past tense, you will
develop consistency and, as a result, create a report that is professional and easy to read. With this
type of consistency, the reports are easily believable to the reader and makes it easy to follow the

Oligopoly Market Structure
Oligopoly Oligopoly is a market structure in which the number of sellers is small. Oligopoly
requires strategic thinking, unlike perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition.
Under perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition, a seller faces a well defined
demand curve for its output, and should choose the quantity where MR=MC. The seller does not
worry about how other sellers will react, because either the seller is negligibly small, or already a
monopoly. Under oligopoly, a seller is big enough to affect the market. You must respond to your
rivals choices, but your rivals are responding to your choices.
In oligopoly markets, there is a tension between cooperation and self interest. If all the ... Show

Jack does not care that Jill s output is sold at a lower price.
The price effect is smaller for duopoly than monopoly, and the quantity effect favors more output
whenever price is above marginal cost. Therefore, the Nash equilibrium price will be closer to
marginal cost than the monopoly price. The more firms in the oligopoly, the smaller the price
effect will be, and the lower the Nash equilibrium price. When the number of firms approaches
infinity, the price effect approaches zero. Therefore, each seller will increase output whenever the
price is above marginal cost. In the limit, we have the perfectly competitive price, and the socially
efficient quantity.
A Brief Introduction to Game Theory Game Theory can be used to study oligopoly games other
than the quantity competition game played by Jack and Jill, as well as arms races, voting

Water Crisis in Pakistan
WATER CRISIS IN PAKISTAN
GENERAL
1. Pakistan has been blessed with abandoned water resources, with water flowing down from
Himalayas and Karakorum, the world s largest glaciers, a unique bounty of nature. As a result of
this natural resource today we have the world s largest irrigation system that irrigates over 16
million hectors of land, out of 34 million hectors of cultivable land available.
2.Basically there are two major sources of water i.e surface and ground water. In surface water
we have Indus Basin (it include Indus plains , Kabul , Astor , Jehlum , Chenab and Sutlej),
Kharan Desert (it include Pishin lora , Baddo Rakshan Mashkhel ) and Makran coastal basin (it
include Malir , Hub , Porali , Kud , Hingol , Dasht ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
d.Industries related to the main crops like rice, wheat, cotton, sugarcane will also suffer in case of
water shortage.
e.The distribution of water is controlled by IRSA (Indus River System Authority) between the
provinces. The shortage of water will cause disputes between the provinces, which may cause harm
to the national integrity.
ANALYSIS Pakistan is one of the poor countries of the world with a high rate of increase in the
population. On the other hand the growth rate is decreasing due to water shortages. We will
need to bring under our use additional lands for cultivation. Pakistan has already slided from
water happy country to a water scarce country. This is going to be a cause of social and political
riots, which are not at all good for the security of the country. So for overcoming the water crises
following steps are recommended
RECOMMENDATIONS
The water strategy must be based upon two essential elements covering
Water development
Water management
The water development strategy is largely based upon the construction of new storage reservoirs
where as the water management strategy will help in reducing the present losses. In this regard we
should start the construction of the following dams immediately:
a.Chasha dam
b.Kalabagh dam
c.Thal reservoir
d.Raised Mangla dam

part of Sony records, which also makes this music video a major label release.
Textual Analysis
The music genre is a mixture of R B and hip hop this can be identified by the heavy beat and the
rhythm. The message of the song is to show how unfaithful and untrustworthy females are. The
message even has a correlation with the song title called Loyal . In most of the scenes, Chris
Brown was surrounded by all these girls, which connotes the masculinity and dominance. The

Differences Between Judaism And Judaism
Judaism has a concrete connection to the development of Christianity which has influenced the
teachings of the religion that would not be made possible without its presence. There are
similarities between the Christian faiths to Judaism from how the religions are practiced to the
hymns that are shared between the two. A primary difference is the historical background to the
discovery of the religions. Another difference would be the sacred text that are used in prayer
considering Judaismuses the Hebrew bibleand Christians use the New Testament. The Hebrew
bible is referred to as the Old Testament yet that might not be the case according to Jews. A
similarity from the two religions is the fact that they are both monotheism which is the belief that
there is only one God. Yet the two differ on the beliefs on the one that is called God or the divine.
Another fascinating similarity that the two share are the Ten Commandments. The commandments
were discovered by Moses on two tablets which has been practice by Jews primarily. The adaptation
of the commandments were carried over into the New Testament. Considering most of the Hebrew
Bible shares a cross connection into the New testament it is clear that it would not have been
created without the influence of Judaism.
Judaism is a temple based religion that is practice in a synagogue that originated in Israel. Moses
was the first author to the scrolls called the Torah. The verbal teachings of Judaism was how Moses

Overview Of Methodologies. Effectuation . Effectual Reasoning
Overview of Methodologies
Effectuation
Effectual reasoning was researched and developed by Sara Sarasvathy, Associate Professor in the
Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. As stated by
Sarasvathy, effectual is the inverse causal (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Throughout history, business students
have been taught causal reasoning (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Causal reasoning consists of finding the best
means (cheapest, quickest, most efficient, etc.) to reach a predetermined goal (Sarasvathy, n.d.).
However, effectuation takes the opposite approach. Effectual thinking consists of collecting current
means and determining potential outcomes utilizing these means. (Sarasvathy, n.d.). One approach
is not better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Avoid doing a competitive analysis (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Additionally, target key companies instead of
conducting broad market research. Developing pre commitments reduces uncertainty in the future
(Sarasvathy, n.d.).
3.Leveraging Contingencies Turning the unexpected into something beneficial (Sarasvathy, n.d.).
Not all surprises are always bad. Surprises can be used to help develop and grow a new venture.
Rather than trying to predict the future, focus on activities within your control ( What is
effectuation? 2011). The logic behind effectual thinking is... to the extent that we can control the
future, we do not need to predict it (Sarasvathy, n.d.).
Lean Startup
Lean startup is a scientific approach to developing a new product or business. Eric Ries created the
term, lean startup (Santoro, 2014). Ries was motivated to develop a startup approach that embraced
failure, since most new businesses and startups usually fail (Santoro, 2014). Additionally, lean
startups focus on using resources efficiently and eliminating waste (Santoro, 2014).
Principles of Lean Startup
1.Entrepreneurs are Everywhere Anyone can be an entrepreneur, whether you are working out of a
garage or an international corporation. Entrepreneurship is not a product; it is a mindset that can be
learned.

Anna Karenina Analysis
Anna Karenina is a story told in three locations: the two Russian major cities of Moscow and St.
Petersburg and the rural countryside. Each location holds special connotations that are reflected in
events and characters that live there. Tolstoy, a fan of the countryside himself, uses the lives of
Levin and, to a lesser extent, Kitty to illustrate the moral superiority of the countryside over its
more urban counterparts. On the other end of the spectrum is St. Petersburg, a city of superficiality
and immorality; the negative implications of this location is portrayed through the lives and tragic
downfalls of St. Petersburg natives and inhabitants Anna and Vronsky. Finally, the city of Moscow
is portrayed as an area in between the two extremes. Inferior to the glorious countryside but
superior to the sinful St. Petersburg, Moscow is a romantic city. It is a city of wavering moralityand
short lived dreams; it is portrayed through the lives of the Oblonsky family, and to a lesser extent,
Anna and Vronsky s temporary bliss together. The three locations in Anna Kareninathe moral
countryside, immoral St. Petersburg, and ambiguous Moscow are vital in developing the noveland
its characters by adding another subtle layer to one s understanding of the text. Anna Karenina s
treatment of the countryside serves to illustrate its moral superiority, as shown with the character of
Levin and, to some extent, his wife Kitty. Straightaway, when the reader first meets Levin, a strong

Pride and Power in George Orwell s Shooting an Elephant ...
Every writer has that one special quirk that keeps readers coming back for more. Whether it is the
humor or the characters, most authors carry their quirks from story to story. In Shooting an
Elephant, George Orwell describes his experience of shooting an elephant. In A Hanging, he
describes the emotions that run through him as he watches the hanging of a prisoner. Both essays
have similar key ideas that identify Orwell as a writer. The results of pride and power contribute to
the themes that connect his essays and identify Orwell as a descriptive writer.
One of Orwell s distinctive characteristics is his emphasis of his emotional response to life and
death in every situation. Orwell engages readers in his pieces because they feel ... Show more

Orwell is a very descriptive writer who emphasizes a different moral in every essay. He is not
simply describing an elephant shooting or a hanging; he is trying to make readers listen to his
messages. One of the messages that Orwell wants his readers to understand is the power that role
playing has on the human mind. Orwell demonstrates this theme quite easily in both essays. Before
killing the elephant, Orwell states, I had got to shoot the elephant. I had committed myself to doing
it when I sent for the rifle. A sahib has got to act like a sahib... (Orwell: Shooting an Elephant). This
statement illustrates how people with power must live up to their expectations to keep that
power. He knows he has the power to kill the animal, so he makes himself fit the role of a killer.
Power can affect the way people act. A modern day example of this is shown when gang
members act on thoughts of the group to gain acceptance by other members. The acceptance
gives them power and this is a universal idea that Orwell focuses on. Orwell also stresses power
to describe human nature. Orwell likes to use this in both essays because it explains the
inconsistency that humans have when power takes over. This is one of Orwell s morals he
stresses to his audience to make them realize the poor decisions people make when in power.
Orwell s writings are most identifiable by the idea that a sense of pride in one s actions and thoughts

Appeasement Dbq Essay
What is the most effective response to aggression appeasement or collective security? World War
II officially racked the world from 1939 to 1944, but before any one nation actually declared war,
Hitler was trying to take land. To respond with appeasement or collective security was debated by
many as to which would avoid damage in the most efficient manner. Document 3, Document 4, and
Document 6 show how collective security was definitely a more beneficial strategy than
appeasement to respond to aggression. Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
during WWII, stated, I asked that Britain, together with France and other powers, guarantee the
Security of Czechoslovakia. If that course had been followed, events would not have fallen into
this disastrous state... (Doc. 6). Here, Churchill blatantly proposed collective security to the
Parliament, against Chamberlain s policy of appeasement. His plan to join with France and other
powers would be collective security because they would work together to protect their nations. As
Churchill said, the intensity and horrible state of the war would not have been there in the first

How Does Colonel Cathcart Use Satire In Catch 22
Power is without a doubt the one thing that divides people from one another. Catch 22 (book)

High ranking officers are the big shots giving out orders, while the low ranking officers take and

The Pros And Cons Of Equality And Equality
Equality has come a long way from where it was before, but the rights of the LGBTQ
community are still thrown to the side and not cared for enough. Some people believe the state
of Indiana is just making matters worse with the discriminating and victimizing law that goes by
the Religious Freedom Restoration Act as stated in the article City Rallies Around Its Gay
Citizens After a Law Sets Off a Flood of Support. It is allowing those with religious beliefs to
discriminate against gays and lesbians because the law ensures the interests of religious
freedoms are protected. Although the law caused backlash it also created an opportunity of unity
within the State of Indiana and support from others as well as said President of Indy Pride inc.
Chris Morehead But on the back side of it, we saw support from places we never imagined.
People gathered from all around the state to help show their support to those who were struggling
with the new law. The law created mishaps but it showed the world that you can have unification
and equality throughout different people with dissimilar beliefs from one another. Furthermore, the
accusations of the law being discerning led to House Speaker Brian Bosma to apologize to those
who were hurt by stating We are sorry that misinterpretation hurt so many people as said in article

Social Learning With Chimpanzees And Other Animals
Learning by observation is a type of learning in which an individual observes the behavior of
others, sees the consequences of the behaviors, and then attempts to carry out the same behavior.
Social learning is based on the standards of classical and operant conditioning and observational
learning. It is a commonly shared belief that people have an instinctive ability to imitate the
behaviorof others. However, this ability is not unique to humans. Animals have also showed
evidence of being able to mimic humans and other animals (Mazur, 2013). Chimpanzees, or Pan
Troglodytes, have demonstrated social learningthrough many different experiments in different
settings. Chimpanzees have shown the ability to observe the behavior of a model and reproduce
the behavior. However, chimpanzees have also demonstrated the mental capacity of understanding
when behaviors do not elicit a desired reaction and not repeating these behaviors under these
circumstances. This paper will focus on chimpanzees and their ability to learn new behaviors
through social learning. Marshall Pescini and Whiten (2008) discuss social learning with
chimpanzees in East Africa, focusing on the task of nut cracking. Nut cracking is unique to wild
chimpanzees who live in West Africa, so this study intended to measure whether or not
chimpanzees who do not live in the wild in West Africa would demonstrate the same ability to

  • 2. Ban Of Ban On Tobacco Those in favor of the ban on tobacco advertisements and sponsoring of cultural and sporting events in India noted that they were not the first country to be taking these steps. In fact, many European countries had previously invoked bans on tobacco beginning decades before. In both Belgium and France the ban was deemed to be constitutional as the main motivator behind this ban was public health, and not necessarily the desire to stop the tobaccoindustry from partaking in trade. Beyond that, it was noted that many industries that trade in dangerous or potentially dangerous products had already undergone these restrictions or bans on advertisement and sponsorship. With the World Health Organization having focused heavily on tobacco related illnesses and deaths, they were able to present the data that tobacco deaths were increasing quickly. In 1990 there were more than 3 million deaths, and by 1998, over four million. Even more alarming was that was the estimate that tobacco related deaths would number almost 8 and a half million in 2020 and 10 million in 2030. These figures are striking and for those in support of the ban on tobacco advertising are clear indicators that something must be done. The tobacco industry had already come under fire for targeting youth in their advertisements, with one notable example being Joe Camel , the animated mascot of Camel cigarettes. RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company was required to remove Joe from all their advertisements after a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cixi might be a blasting fuse but she was not accounted for the final fall of the dynasty. The actions Cixi took had profoundly changed the foundation of feudal China so as to push China forward into a modern stage. Although many historical data suggested that whatever Cixi had done were to consolidate her authority and personal status. But no matter what, the impact on the country was obvious. Cixi broke the previous traditions from Confucianism that had been lasted for centuries. Tensions between the Manchus and Han Chinese had been greatly improved, which made a great contribution to China for later unification. Under the reign of the Empress Dowager, the social structure had undergone a series of changes. Qing s demise is doomed, this was resulted from issues that had stacked up from previous generations. Moreover, Cixi did her best to secure China s status in the world in such a chaotic period in history. She made undeniable contributions to China. Confucianism is a traditional ideology that has already penetrated into every Chinese head. Its main principle is to follow the past, changes and new technologies or new objects are not necessary. Experiencing Bollywood Experiencing Bollywood: An Avant garde Attempt Introduction Bollywood has been characterised for its larger than life plots, elaborate song and dance sequences, melodramatic acting which underpins the Indian social framework. With the advent of globalisation, it has paved way for a wider variety of film genres and has managed to reach out to audiences beyond the Indian diaspora. Constantly pushing the envelope at various junctures, the Bollywood phenomenon has become prominent in the world today. The primary mode in which Bollywood is encountered is through cinemas. Based on my research, Bombay Talkies, where I had initially planned to go, sold Indian snacks which may have further heightened the Bollywood atmosphere. An important element of the cinema going experience is the ticket. The ticket serves different purposes As a form of theatre branding; generic information such as date, time and cinema hall of screening; entry access for the soon to be viewer; and possible memento. Hence the ticket holds practical meaning and possible attachment with the past presence of viewing the movie. But advancements in technology have replaced this tangible nostalgia as this cinema is the first to introduce an auto gate system via a confirmed booking code sent to a moviegoer s phone enabling them to scan this code for entry. This has been introduced to more cinemas around Singapore as well. While this caters to more efficient crowd management, it disrupts the nostalgic sentiment in the moviegoer. While I was expecting a predominantly North Indian crowd for the evening showtime slot, I was surprised to see a wide spectrum of people present. Apart from my friend and I being Tamil, there was a young Indian (Tamil) couple as well; some North Indians, an old couple in their 50s and some teenage girls; 2 Chinese mid aged women; and the majority of the theatre (seating capacity 208), which was ... There are many social factors that can impact on the Doctor Patient relationships everything from race to gender. To break it down and find five, I started with Doctors personal views he is under pressure to be ethical when he may not entirely be accepting of a person s beliefs or sexuality. For instance a doctor may be homophobic and have a patient attend surgery asking for advice on practicing safe sex and being HIV aware. Following on from this may be a patients confidence in doctors due to race for example a person who has racist issues would not feel comfortable attending a foreign doctors surgery. To find a third I would have to say gender being a female I tend to talk easier to a female doctor, which persists problems as my female doctor only works three days a week so I put off going to see the male doctor so therefore remain ill longer. My fourth factor is age, as the doctor could be old and the patient adolescent. This would impact on different generations living different lifestyles and changing societies. Adolescence is indeed a tempestuous period , (Thorne, B Lambers.1998). Finally I find language barriers a major social factor as if you can t understand what your doctor is saying to you it has complications in treatment and there is not always a translator available. 2: Discuss how functionalists/ interactionalists / Marxists might view these ... The encouraging role of faith has tended to be overlooked due to other world affairs. Emile Durkheim summarised religion as body of practices and beliefs that act as a basis of identification. Therefore theoretical understandings can demonstrate that terrorism is not a problem with religion. Durkheim went further by declaring that religion maintains social order and allows for social cohesion (Boundless, 2015). According to Emile Durkheim all societies have religion which offers meaning to life as well as enforcing religious morals and norms respectably. Similarly German sociologist Max Weberconcluded that religion brings meaning to life through specific codes of conducts. Guidelines are set in order to follow the desired behaviour. This becomes a central element as Weber believes that humans have always been challenged by crisis which is logically acceptable (Priya, 2014). As opposed to religion being a problem, scholars have forwarded the idea that faith controls order and impacts how one is to live in the expectation of a successful afterlife. Religion also makes us put up with inequalities because of the concept of afterlife. This questions if terrorism is a problem with a religion. It can change the hepatic phospholipid species in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats [78]. On the other hand epigallocatechin gallate, a constituent of green tea, represses the hepatic glucose production. EGCG also mimics insulin by increasing phosphoinositide 3 kinase, mitogen activated protein kinase. • 24. The Importance Of Narrative Writing Narrative Writing is a story that is told and the order in which it is told. Some stories have narrators and some without. The narrator is normally a series of characters or one character who tell the story. Sometimes narrative writing can be classified as fiction writing which is a made up from start to finish. When there is narrativewritingthat is based on true stores, then the narrative writing is non fiction. Most narrative writing in the law enforcement sector is a how to format or a guideline on how a report should be written. It also explains the actual facts on how a crime occurred during the investigation. According to the text Biggs (2016), There are five rules of narrative writing. The first rule of narrative writing is, the report should always be written in first person. When the narrative explains first person, the narrative is stating that using I or Me in the reports identify the author of the person who is writing the investigative report. If I or Me is not being used to write the investigative reports, the investigation could be sought as made up or fake. The second rule of narrative writing is, the report should also be written in past tense along with first person view. According to the text, If you write in the past tense, you will develop consistency and, as a result, create a report that is professional and easy to read. Oligopoly requires strategic thinking, unlike perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition. Under perfect competition, monopoly, and monopolistic competition, a seller faces a well defined demand curve for its output, and should choose the quantity where MR=MC. The seller does not worry about how other sellers will react, because either the seller is negligibly small, or already a monopoly. Under oligopoly, a seller is big enough to affect the market. There are similarities between the Christian faiths to Judaism from how the religions are practiced to the hymns that are shared between the two. A primary difference is the historical background to the discovery of the religions. Another difference would be the sacred text that are used in prayer considering Judaismuses the Hebrew bibleand Christians use the New Testament. The Hebrew bible is referred to as the Old Testament yet that might not be the case according to Jews. A similarity from the two religions is the fact that they are both monotheism which is the belief that there is only one God. Yet the two differ on the beliefs on the one that is called God or the divine. Another fascinating similarity that the two share are the Ten Commandments. The commandments were discovered by Moses on two tablets which has been practice by Jews primarily. The adaptation of the commandments were carried over into the New Testament. Considering most of the Hebrew Bible shares a cross connection into the New testament it is clear that it would not have been created without the influence of Judaism. Causal reasoning consists of finding the best means (cheapest, quickest, most efficient, etc.) to reach a predetermined goal (Sarasvathy, n.d.). However, effectuation takes the opposite approach. Not all surprises are always bad. Surprises can be used to help develop and grow a new venture. • 34. Anna Karenina Analysis Anna Karenina is a story told in three locations: the two Russian major cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg and the rural countryside. Each location holds special connotations that are reflected in events and characters that live there. Tolstoy, a fan of the countryside himself, uses the lives of Levin and, to a lesser extent, Kitty to illustrate the moral superiority of the countryside over its more urban counterparts. On the other end of the spectrum is St. Petersburg, a city of superficiality and immorality; the negative implications of this location is portrayed through the lives and tragic downfalls of St. Petersburg natives and inhabitants Anna and Vronsky. Finally, the city of Moscow is portrayed as an area in between the two extremes. Inferior to the glorious countryside but superior to the sinful St. Petersburg, Moscow is a romantic city. It is a city of wavering moralityand short lived dreams; it is portrayed through the lives of the Oblonsky family, and to a lesser extent, Anna and Vronsky s temporary bliss together. The three locations in Anna Kareninathe moral countryside, immoral St. Petersburg, and ambiguous Moscow are vital in developing the noveland its characters by adding another subtle layer to one s understanding of the text. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Orwell is a very descriptive writer who emphasizes a different moral in every essay. He is not simply describing an elephant shooting or a hanging; he is trying to make readers listen to his messages. One of the messages that Orwell wants his readers to understand is the power that role playing has on the human mind. Orwell demonstrates this theme quite easily in both essays. Before killing the elephant, Orwell states, I had got to shoot the elephant. I had committed myself to doing it when I sent for the rifle. A sahib has got to act like a sahib... (Orwell: Shooting an Elephant). This statement illustrates how people with power must live up to their expectations to keep that power. He knows he has the power to kill the animal, so he makes himself fit the role of a killer. Power can affect the way people act. A modern day example of this is shown when gang members act on thoughts of the group to gain acceptance by other members. The acceptance gives them power and this is a universal idea that Orwell focuses on. Orwell also stresses power to describe human nature. Orwell likes to use this in both essays because it explains the inconsistency that humans have when power takes over. This is one of Orwell s morals he stresses to his audience to make them realize the poor decisions people make when in power.
