Workplace Safety Essay
Writing an essay on workplace safety is no easy task. It involves delving into a complex and
multifaceted subject that requires a thorough understanding of various aspects of occupational
health and safety. The difficulty arises from the need to balance statistical data, legal
frameworks, and real-life scenarios, while also addressing the human element involved in
workplace safety.
Researching the topic involves navigating through a vast sea of information, ranging from
government regulations to industry-specific guidelines. Understanding the nuances of different
work environments, hazards, and preventive measures adds another layer of complexity.
Moreover, presenting the information in a coherent and engaging manner requires a careful
selection of relevant details and a structured approach.
Crafting an impactful essay on workplace safety also involves addressing the emotional and
ethical dimensions associated with the topic. Balancing the gravity of potential workplace
accidents with the need for practical solutions and preventive measures is a delicate task.
Additionally, conveying the importance of individual responsibility and collective awareness
without sounding overly didactic is a challenge in itself.
Moreover, the language used in such an essay needs to be clear, concise, and accessible to a wide
audience. Communicating the importance of workplace safety without resorting to jargon or
overly technical language is crucial to ensuring that the message reaches a diverse readership.
In conclusion, writing an essay on workplace safety demands a comprehensive understanding of
the topic, effective research skills, and the ability to present complex information in a compelling
manner. It is a task that requires a balance between technical details and human aspects, making
it a challenging yet essential endeavor in promoting a safer working environment.

Abortion Did Not Lower Crime Rate
Ever since Freakonomics was published, and sold, which it sold very well to be
honest, there has been many debates about one theory that Steven D. Levitt used to
explain why the crime rate dropped in the 1990 s. That theory is that the Supreme
Court case of Roe V Wade, which legalized abortion in all fifty states. Steven Levitt
stated in Freakonomics that the legalization of abortion had the biggest percentage
of why the crime rate went down. Yet, I would like to question this theory myself.
One big controversy that I have with this theory is that Mr. Levitt did not put in to
factor the crack issues that were occurring during the time. The 1990 s was the
biggest boom for the crack industry, becoming the major reason of why people were
committing homicide during the decade. So how does one truly know if those
fetuses that were aborted would have joined the crack fiasco (http://online.wsj.com

HLjarwtM95Erz45QPP0pDWul8rc_20061127.html?mod=tff_main_tff_top). Another
issue that I have with this abortion theory is that it is being conducted as a total,
complete whole of all people in the United States. In the 1970 s non white females
were at their peak of abortions. One would expect that the crime rate should be the
lowest then in the 1990 s for non whites, but in the years of 1993 and 1994 homicide
was at its peak for young black male adults. Even though the statistics prove this to be
true, Levitt and his partner of this theory, John

the so called European super state . Britain voting out on the 23rd. June would result

He discusses how in the event of Brexit , Britain would be at the back of the queue
in securing a NAFTA type deal. A benefit of Brexit discussed by EU out supporters
is the ability of Britain to forge trade deals with other non EU nations such as the
US. However this prospect of a Britain America trade deal has been dampened by
Obama s comments, suggesting that America is busy negotiating deals with EU and
that Britain will have to wait possibly another ten years. Obama further comments on
how EU magnifies Britain s global influence and that Brexit would hamper this.
Penny Mordaunt from The Telegraph has dismissed his comments as woeful
ignorance saying his belief ...that
.. divisions in Europe would weaken NATO is not true arguing those divisions are
caused by the EU itself. Mordaunt continues to argue how Obama confuses
collective action through NATO with the integration at all costs ideology that
motivates the EU too explaining that the EU has nothing to do with Britain s
international influence, NATO does. Obama s argument is weak whilst discussing
trade deals as he has reached his final year of his presidency and cannot dictate on
future deals especially with republican candidates Cruz stating an American British

However his stance on weakening of Britain s influence is a possibility as
Summary Of Kenneth Slessor s North Country
Through the immersion of one in a variety of physical environments, the
manipulation of genre, form and perspective presents a polysemic representation of a
diverse range of landscapes, in turn allowing responders to develop complex
understandings into the human psyche. Specifically, through the interwoven
utilization of complex allusions and personalized outlooks Alain De Bottons The Art
Of Travel shapes humanities greater knowledge of traveling s impact on the human
behavior and perception. Likewise, this notion is extended amongst Kenneth Slessor
s minimalistic, poetic piece North Country in which the composer highlights man s
dichotomous relationship with the physical world, and how ongoing, differentiated
experiences cultivate interpersonal growth and develop individualized standpoints
towards the wider globe. Consequently, both texts elicit portrayals of innumerable
landscapes, which foreground the intricacies of civilization through the construction
of a piece that reveals the subjectivity of our human mentalities today.
Recollecting empowers the individual to delve deeper into meaningful encounters
that assist in developing identity whether it be from a reminisced, imaginative or
realistic. Illustrating this analogy is Botton s AOT through its alteration of the basic
novel structure to fully capture landscapes as the product of personal perception, all
whilst challenging the reader to reconsider the true sense of these places and their

Engine Management System ( Ems )
With a tougher legislation and the need for cleaner and more economical engine
operation, it has become increasingly more difficult to design an engine which can be
compatible with the new requirements. Engine Management System (EMS) is an
integrated electrical system which can achieve this by closely monitoring the
operation of an engine. It monitors and controls all the key functions of the engine
and the exhaust aftertreatment system for a cleaner, more efficient and high power
output operation. EMS controls key systems such as fuel injection, turbocharging and
exhaust gas recirculation. 1 Air subsystem Air subsystem is a key factor in
determining torque output and, engine performance. More the cylinder charged with
clean air, the higher the maximum possible engine power output. Figure 1 shows the
main components of an air subsystem: The air filter prevents particles and dust from
entering the engine in order to reduce wear in the bearings, piston rings, cylinder
walls. It also prevents higher fuel consumption and pollutant emissions which result
from particles in the engine. Then supercharging/turbocharging is utilised to increase
the power output from the engine by drawing pressurised air under force into the
cylinders thus higher air mass. This has a great effect in reducing the fuel
consumption and exhaust gas emission rates. Compressing the air by the
turbocharger, leads to excess heat which has a negative effect on cylinder charge.
Downstream of the
Power In The Middle East
The region that the Western World views as the Middle East is laden with
complexities. In the region there is a long history of what is currently understood as
modernization. To parallel that, connected to the Middle East is also a history of
being understood as backward or behind in comparison to the West. It seems as if no
matter what the empires (now nation states), and the people, of the Middle Eastdo they
are constantly going to be relinquished to the other.
Global capitalism made its way into the Ottoman empire through a variety of
imperial, colonial, and personal sentiments. Imperial and colonial attitudes are the
most easily recognized. These processes involve expansion and often domination over
other areas, and empires. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Post colonization in the Middle East there have been numerous efforts by the West to
continue to assert their control. As is explained in A Clash of Civilizations there is
an expansion of specifically American control on global institutions, such as the U.N
to push human rights imperialism. Huntington write, countering the aforementioned
idea, the West in effect is using international institutions military power and economic
resources to run the world in ways that will maintain Western pre dominance, protect
Western interests and promote Western political and economic values (Huntington,
40). There is a rhetoric used, one that Said comments on, that maintains an otherness
of the Middle East. They are labeled the Orient, a place that is much greater in size
than the West world but that is held in tandem with them. Or, they are held as lesser
than the West. Beyond the direct colonization of the twentieth century, the entrance
of the Middle East into modernity allows judgements to be made on a global
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tanks
Tanks, tanks have always interested me. Ever since I was little I ve always had a
thing for militaria be it planes or tanks. World War II was the start of true tank
combat and new designs of tanks and every other type of military vehicle and
weapon. Most people when they think of World War II and tanks, lots of them look at
the Sherman in the Tiger who would always be matched up against each other on the
Eastern Front. No, I won t be talking about those tanks though, albeit they are the
most comparable Tanks not because they are similar, but because how different they
are and how often they clashed with different results. With tanks, tankdestroyers were
one of the most fascinating creations. Their sole purpose that is in the name is to...

The Abrams all around is a great tank, it is fast, maneuverable, has great armor and
a large gun that can fire a multitude of different rounds it s what everybody wants in
a tank. These two tanks the M18 and the Abrams could be seen as father and son or
more likely Grandfather and Grandson. Both have the best kill ratios of the US in
their time against enemy tanks. The Abrams has an almost perfect kill ratio with
no crew members being directly killed in battle inside of the tank surpassing that
of the German tanks in World War II. The M18 on the other hand had a kill ratio of
3 to 1 approximately Meaning for every tank destroyer lost 3 enemy tanks were
destroyed. For being such a light armored vehicle it was one of the most
exceptional kill ratios. Both of these tanks could be seen as the best of their times
with both firepower and maneuverability accounting for that result. The differences
of these two tanks For the most part are really obvious. For one the M18 is a light
armored tank destroyer that was made to be fast and light on its feet; with a
powerful gun and barely any protection against enemy vehicles armor wise. The
Abrams on the other hand was made also to be fast and light on its feet with a
powerful gun, but also to be able to protect its crew to the point where no crew
member would be killed in the event of a hit. On the battlefield today the Abrams is
one of the safest places to be in any combat situation. The Abrams armor is made of
Technological Advances And Its Impact On Business
Environment
Our world is constantly in flux and change is a permanent feature of the
environment for workers as well as organizations. Rapidly changing technological
capabilities as well as advances have radically changed the nature of work and
communication over the last 150 years. The average office or retail clerk would find
many of the changes in how business is conducted from the early 20th century to
today almost incomprehensible. Furthermore, rapid cultural changes and expectations
have also changed how we interact and what our expectations are. In order for
organizations to remain relevant in today s business environment they must be able
to adapt quickly to the changing needs of their customers as well as identify and
implement appropriate technological advances to the their business strategy and
model. Accomplishing these changes effectively requires that organizations
implement these changes in a manner that achieves employee or associate, buy in
and support. Walmart is currently in the midst of a major roll out of new technology,
as well as significant process changes. These changes are in response to technological
advances, and customerexpectations. Successful implementation of these programs
will improve the company s position relative to competitors as well as in the eyes of
consumers. Over the last several years the company has experienced a significant
drop in customer satisfaction. According to the American Customer Satisfaction
Index (ACSI), an independent
Organization Design in FMC Green River Essay
Organization Design in FMC Green River
Organization design is a formal, guided process for integrating the people,
information and technology of an organization. It is used to match the form of the
organization as closely as possible to the purpose of the organization. This design
process seeks to improve and facilitate the efforts of members within the organization.
With respect to FMC Corporation s Green River, Wyoming facility, under the
guidance of this entity s site manager, Kenneth Dailey, the design should be
approached as an internal changes within the organization with the entity s members
working together to define the needs of the organization then create systems to meet

Therefore, a team was sent to the Aberdeen market in order to evaluate this plant s
activities and policies, in order to identify potential recommendations for Green

in terms of its management and output.
In analyzing the ability of management of Aberdeen, one may note that this facility
can be described as laid back and easygoing. As begun with the initial Aberdeen
plant manager, Bob Lancaster, then proceeded by Jeff Bust and finally Roger
Campbell, Aberdeen was managed as a family instead of a simple work plant. As
noted within Clawson s, Custom Business Resources, Aberdeen was built on trust of
every employee. Lancaster s view was to manage in a manner to eliminate fear in his
employees and instead increase productivity and potential beneficial risk taking, by
organizing self directing work teams, expecting the employees to assume and exercise
responsibility and maintain high standards of quality and service. Teams were created
for every division with respective team leaders elected to help manage the family.
Management made their employees feel trusted and implemented an almost self
directed system with just the appropriate amount of upper level development in

Animal Captivity In Seaworld
Animal entertainment is when you use animals to entertain people for their
pleasure. It began in the 1960s, when corporations such as SeaWorld, captured
wild animals from their natural habitats. In 1993, when Free Willy, a film about a
captive orca and his journey to freedom came out, it was the first time a worldwide
audience fell in love with these amazing creatures of the ocean. However, the issue
with orcas being held captive is still an issue today. There is animal captivity all
around the world, but the issue at SeaWorld, is one of many documentaries, articles
and speeches, made to fight the neglect towards orcas in SeaWorld. SeaWorld s
entertainment has caused arguments and disagreements since the 60s. In Canada,
back when there was a place called Sea Land, there was a brutal method they used to
capture the orcas. The first thing they did was to go out on a boat, see a mother and
her baby, then corner them. Take the calf away from the mother, then throw them in
little rings, separated from each other, confined in their own areas. They capture them
from just being out in the open, or their taken from other places, or bred in Captivity.

their fins flop over to the side. In the wild, their fins can stand 6 feet tall. Mentally,
since their brains are mainly set on emotion, keeping them in small spaces isn t
healthy for them at all. It can cause them to go crazy because the space is stopping
them from doing what they naturally do, which is roaming large bodies of water. In
February 2010, there was an attack with an orca named Tilikum. Tilikum killed
Dawn Brancheau, an experienced trainer. The orca drowned Dawn by grabbing her
by her ponytail, then pulling her under the water. Orcas are very large animals and

Santa Claus Argumentative Essay
The Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Boogeyman, and Santa Claus, what do all of
these have in common? For me, it is the innocence of a child. Children seem to be
more gullible and believe anything you tell them; they do not know the difference
between a lie and the truth. During the Christmas of 2003, I was five years old and
still believed in Santa Claus. The fact of believing in Santa Claus expresses the
innocence of a child and brings the magic to Christmas. Looking back on this picture

The World Of Graphic Design
The world of Graphic Design has been revolutionized time and time again with
many artists setting high standards for aspiring graphic designers. Two artists who
are interesting and innovative in their own ways are graphic designers Chipp Kidd
and Jennifer Morla. Kidd has created many design successes with some of his most
famous book jackets being Jurassic Park, Naked by Davis Sedaris and All the
Pretty Horses. The designs of the books are all drastically diverse, making it
difficult to pinpoint the designs to one single artist. However dissimilar the
designs are, they have two things in common; they are innovative and perfectly
reflect the content of the pages between the covers. Jennifer Morla is an artist with
a differing career from Kidd. She focuses on branding of companies rather than
book jackets. She has worked with companies such as Levi s, Apple Computer,
Design Within Reach, Wells Fargo, Herman Miller to help form a clean brand for
the companies. I am researching the histories of both Chipp Kidd and Jennifer Morla
because they are both trailblazers in the Graphic Designworld and have come from
drastically different backgrounds. Their histories and accomplishments can have a
great impact on aspiring graphic designers.
To begin, we will take a trip back in time to the summer of 1964. This was the time
when perhaps the most recognizable book cover designer, Chip Kidd, was born. He
grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and his infatuation for pop culture and

I believe in helping those who are helping their selves. I feel that heavily in debt

detailed and favorable plan in place for the future. I also agree the HIPC when it
requires that the countries should focus on export diversification, can t be at war with
neighboring countries, and that domestic price ceilings should be eliminated
especially on agriculture products. One additional note is that assistance provided
should be tailored country by country to best fit each country s specific situation.
3. Part of the reason the World Banks standard Structural Adjustment Policies has
been counterproductive partially because of unfortunate timing. Reduce government
spending caused a recessionary effect, decreasing demand and increasing
unemployment hurt nations. Strict monetary policy raised interest rates and helped
to further suffocate investment demand and access to capital for poor farmers and
low income entrepreneurs. Currency devaluation did make exports cheaper but at a
time when export markets for primary goods were oversupplied and prices were
falling. Import cost also rose making it more expensive for domestic producers to
obtain new technology and replacement parts. In addition, privatization of
government enterprises also increased efficiency, which was accompanied by
downsizing, which resulted in unemployment for thousands of the middle class. At
this time the reductions in
A Review Of Different Elicitation Techniques
A Review of Different Elicitation Techniques in Requirement Engineering
CECS 590

INTRODUCTION:
Requirement Engineering is the initial and crucial step in the Software Development.
In the past few years Requirement Engineering phase has been given much of an
importance, it basically refers to gathering of information from the client that is
required for the development of the project. This phase is crucial as it forms the
foundation of the project. The Requirement Engineering phase is broke down into
three stages, Requirement Elicitation, Requirement Specification and Requirement
validation.
This paper is going to discuss the various techniques that are generally practiced for
Requirement Elicitation. The term Requirement Elicitation refers to gathering of
information about the project from clients, users and other stake holders. It is quite a
complicated process as the user never really knows what exactly he wants, the
information cannot be collected just by asking different questions about the project.
There are various techniques that are in practice for this purpose. Rest of this paper
discusses about such techniques along with their pros and cons.

Polygamy in Canada Essay
Within Canada we have a generous amount of freedom but this leads to the abuse
of our system. This is especially true with regards to polygamy in Bountiful, BC.
Because women are susceptible to mental abuse in polygamist relationships it should
continue to be illegal in Canada. If this law is in enforced it would help women to
be freed of the oppression caused by male domination, eliminate the need for women
to suppress feelings that conflict with the ideals of the polygamylife, and aid in
avoiding depression resulting from the build up of concealed feelings.
Polygamy is the case in which a man or a woman has multiple spouses. One branch
of polygamy is termed polygyny , which is when one man is married to several wives
(Zeitzen 3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Providing such controls permits women from becoming independent: to think
emotionally and mentally development. Of course here an opponent might validly
argue that men must take the dominant role and provide authority due to the idea:
women report more intense and persistent anger than do men (88:1546). However,
even though it is true that women are more susceptible to revealing their emotions;
women are just as capable as men to run their lives in a constructive, healthy way.
Polygynist men have hidden behind the blanket of religion to justify their male
supremacy and dismantle the strength and equality of women in a whole.
Many women in polygynist relationships tend to hide their feelings, but why?
Daphne Braham writes [women are] taught to suppress [these] emotions and to put
all their energy into obeying the word of their prophet. (17) Therefore, any thoughts
of resentment, jealousy or so forth are not acceptable. When a man has so many
wives they have no choice but to be submissive if they want to avoid being left out;
because the husband can turn to another one of his wives to get what he desires.
In Dena Hassouneh Phillips article, Polygamy and Wife Abuse: A Qualitative Study
of Muslim Women in America, she notes a report from a second wife who felt
insignificant in her polygamous marriage due to the lack of attention

In Memoriam Rudy Giuliani
American democracy is much stronger than vicious, cowardly, terrorism. In my
opinion, this powerful statement by Rudy Giuliani, the previous New York City
Mayor during 9/11, ultimately sums up and implies the importance of
commemorating the anniversary of September 11th. This quote is not only consoling
but serves as a reminder to all Americans that our nation, when unified, is nearly
imperishable. Throughout the film In Memoriam, there are several tragic and
devastating images of the fateful day. Among these include both World Trade Centers
being stricken, people trapped or jumping out of the windows, Police and Firemen
frantically rushing to help, and the disastrous collapse of both towers. There is no

In my opinion, the film truly captures the massive terror and chaos that occurred
that September morning. In terms of describing the events, the film successfully
addresses not only what occurred outside the Twin Towers, but also what was
happening on the inside such as the phone calls to family members and friends. It
was mentioned that older people in the buildings gave their chance down the
elevator to those that were younger. There are several scenes that show and tell the
different stories of those that were trapped. On the outside one can see the distress
among the New Yorkers and the distraught faces of the pedestrians that were
fixated on the near collapsing buildings. The scenes of debris falling, office papers
flying everywhere, and the clouds of dust rolling through the streets is what made
most people compare it what Hell might be like. The film accurately covered every
aspect and event of 9/11 from the first airstrike at 8:46 am to the very funerals of
those whose lives were taken. The lack of censorship throughout the film is what I
feel most definitely helps to capture the brutality that was inflicted towards the United
States that day. What I felt when watching these events was utter helplessness, yet
patriotism when seeing the several Americans working together to help one
The Role of Auditors in a Firm
Audit is determined by a formal examination of a firm s financial records, inspection
of its accounts and other related documents by accountants called auditors. Basically,
auditing is a controlled process which includes professional judgment and requires
applying of analytical skills. Also, it involves appropriate forms of expertise and its
approaching. A team with professional skills perform this task according to the
relevant standards, for instance, International Standards on Auditing(ISAs),
International Financial Reporting Standards(IFRS), International Public Sector
Accounting Standards (IPSAS) or International Standards on Quality Control
(ISQCs) and other applicable equivalents.
The role of auditor as a specialist is to review the company s accounts in order to
certify the legitimacy and validity of its financial records. They work in the places
like independent certified organisations or accounting departments. Furthermore,
auditors can give an advice and warn about possible risks and cost savings that
company could made. As money going in and out of organisations, auditors examine
the records and check if it is processed correctly. Their obligations also include
visiting factories for checking stocks and companies equipment.
Actually, there could be internal or external auditors. Considering internal, they work
for specialized firms, large corporations or charities and as a part of a company s
accounting team. That is to say, internal auditors perform in the

Donald Trump Leadership Analysis
Donald J. Trump is an interesting American success story. Throughout his life, he has
set standards of business and entrepreneurial success in real estate, sports,
entertainment, and politics. His entry into politics resulted in him being elected the
45th President of the United States (White House, 2017). After he graduated from
Wharton School of Finance, Donald Trumpassumed his father s role and became a
real estate developer in New York. Mr. Trump has written over fourteen bestsellers.
He also entered the sports arena when he bought the New Jersey Generals in 1982,
as part of the United States Football league. Before entering the political race for
President, he was well known for staring in the realty television show The
Apprentice . He announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination on June 16,
2015 and won the election for President of the United States on November 8, 2016
(White House, 2017). Nobody can deny his success in business but his leadership
style has been heavily debated, especially after he became President. There are
certain elements to Donald Trump s television and social media persona that can be
found in his leadership style, but there is more to his leadership style than just those
elements. He exudes confidence and this is an aspect that can be found in his
leadership style. Donald Trump presences in the business world is the authority and
confidence he bring to everything he does. This mentality has helped him in good and
bad times (Advise America, 2017). Donald Trump is not afraid to be unconventional;
the centralized autocratic managementstyle can be seen throughout his career. This
style does not work for everyone, but Donald Trump believes it works for him. In
business or as President, Donald Trump appreciates the value of face to face
communication. He is known for being tough and sometimes ruthless negotiator. He
pulls no punches and gets right to the point, which has made him a controversial
figure (Advise America, 2017). Donald Trump s personal persona comes off as I am
the leader and do what I say The implications behind that philosophy is the leader is
smarter than anyone else, the leader has all the answers, do not question the leader,

The Professional Army As A Profession
The Professional Army
The term professional has always been loosely associated with the Army since its
official organization in 1775. The title of Army professional in the past was restricted
to only the officer ranks discarding Soldiers and the Non Commissioned Officers. The
fluctuating opinions of the professional Army was mostly due to social definitions of
a professional, and the Army s ability to meet its criteria. The Army is a profession
because it requires specialized skills and human expertise, establishes ethical
behavior for its members, and contain members who embrace and are stewards of
the culture. The Army is a profession because it requires a collaboration of highly
training Soldiers who possess specialized skills that combine to operate in complex
situations in more complex environments. General Martin Dempsey stated that The
Profession of Arms requires expert knowledge, and that expertise is manifested as
unique skills in the individual professional and by Army units. For the purpose of this
paper the operational definition of the term profession is: a type of job that requires
special education training, or skill. In order to meet and maintain the demands of this
definition, The Army has established the Army Development Model which consists
of institutions, operational training, and self development to create highly skilled
service members. The Army has established institutions where civilian candidates go

The Travel Expense Billing Controversy
Introduction Neal A. Roberts, an employee of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)
found out that his employer was earning millions of dollars a year by way of a
billing method that he thought was doubtful. PwC had been collecting large rebates
on airline tickets and other travel expenses being charged as expenses to clients of
the firm. These rebates were not being returned to the firm s clients in the form of
savings, but the firm was keeping these rebates for it. This was working, because the
firm would bill the clients for the full price of airline tickets and other travel related
expense, but privately, the firm negotiated discounts and rebates that they then got at
the end of the year based upon total amounts spent. The clients did not know... Show

The customer s stakes are to get the right service for the money they paid, to get
good quality and to be treated honest and fair. But in this case the customers are not
getting the rebates that they should be rewarded. Furthermore the stakes of the
federal government are that the company PwC can pay the taxes and acts legally
and ethically. However, the federal government was not only lied to about
speculations and regulations, but they were also lied to as the customers
themselves. Moreover the stakes of PwC are that they can keep on the market
with the other companies, that their employees are motivated and make a good
work, that their company is creditworthy, so in other words liquidity is given, that
they have many customers and good conditions for suppliers. The stakes of the

The Meatpacking Factory Case Summary
CASE ONE:
THE MEATPACKING FACTORY
The Meatpacking Factory is a case study involving the decision of a factory manager
to let his Muslim workers observe their faith by taking breaks at sunrise and sundown
during their holy month of Ramadan. James Windham, the factory manager, thought
their request was well warranted and felt he should be considerate of the religious
beliefs of his employees. There are about 100 Muslim workers which represents 20%
of the employee population at the factory. To Windham s dismay, the breaks began
having a significantly negative affect on productivity due to the ever shifting sunset
and sundown times. Trying to accommodate a constantly changing schedule left

PROBLEM 2: While Mr. Windham was contemplating an internal scheduling
issues there were external pressures as well. Other meat packing companies in the
region had not negotiated with their Muslim employees about breaks for religious
services. Instead, other companies were threatening to fire anyone who took an
unscheduled break in an effort to enforce discipline. Mr. Windham needed a plan
to get in front of these external pressures to ensure his company s reputation. The
tactics of the other plants were already in the local media channels and would soon
be national. Fortunately Mr. Windham is in a good position to capitalize on his
scheduling mistake because he can turn it into positive press for the company. Mr.
Windham needs to issue a formal apology for the scheduling mistake he made and
take full responsibility. Then he should promise fair break scheduling based on all
faiths and religious practices. Mr. Windham can ask his employees to convene a
diverse working group to come up with a new break policy to go into effect after

New Orleans Chooses Home Rule Charter
New Orleans Chooses Home Rule Charter
The city of New Orleans is governed by a Home Rule Charter. The Home Rule
gives a municipality the power and authority to determine how it city should be
governed. Without this power a state can make it difficult for a city to function. It
can be because of political differences, old grudges, or just because it can. The state
can cause economic and financial hardship. The Municipality can be given as much
or as little power as the state sees fit, because municipalities are creatures of the
state. Before a Home Rule Charter came into effect, there were several charters
before it. The territorial legislature granted New Orleans its first Charter in 1805
and it went into effect the following year. It consisted of a Mayor appointed by the
Governor for a term of one year. The council consisted of two members from each
ward, they were elected for a term of two years. The Mayor had certain powers.
Most of these changes lasted until 1836. After the adoption of the 1805 charter New
Orleans was considered an American City after having been a European outpost on
American soil for almost a century. In 1836 the 1805 charter was amended. The
significant changes provided the city s government be divided into three
municipalities. There was still only one Mayor, but there was a council for each
municipality. But, with some authority remained with the central government. The
most recognizable change to the city s charter of 1836 was the change
The Jade Peony by Wayson Choy
This passage is adapted from Wayson Choy s The Jade Peony and portrays the fear
of a young boy who has recently lost his mother. The reader is able to infer the
situation from the passage despite it not being clearly mentioned. The reader
infers that the passage is about a juvenile boy who sits beside his dying mother and
is then taken care of by family friends, predominantly the Chins. The reader is able
to assume that the mother of the child has died, by the mention of how my [his]
mommy s voice... would never say again. This along with the hullabaloo and a
sense of emergency projected in the first paragraph indicate that the mother is no
more. The rigid arms suggest that the mother s arms are dead. The cacophony of
the word rigid creates a sense of chaos for the readers. The passage is written in
first person narrative, providing the reader with meaningful insights from the boy
who has lost his mother. The author makes use of varying sentence styles. Simple
sentences are used to merely narrate the event Mr. Chin was shouting instructions.
Mrs. Chin called my name. These simple sentences help maintain a slow pace of
the text, and create a dull tone to commemorate the death. Some sentences like the
ones in Lines 3 5 are fragmented, revealing the incident one step at a time. Choy
makes use of various symbols and techniques to provide reassurance to the young
boy. Anaphora is successfully used in Lines 7 ( Don t be afraid... don t be afraid... )
to reassure the boy

2.Many convicts were transported for petty crimes, while a significant number were
political prisoners. More serious crimes, such as rape and murder, were punishable by
death, and therefore not transportable offences. Once emancipated, most ex convicts
stayed in Australia and joined the free settlers, with some rising to prominent
positions in Australian society. However, convictism carried a social stigma, and for
some later Australians, convict origins would be a source of shame. Attitudes
became more accepting in the 20th century and it is now considered by many
Australians to be a cause for celebration to have a convict in one s lineage. Around
20% of modern Australians are descended from transported convicts. The convict era
has inspired famous novels, films, and other cultural works, and the extent to which it
has shaped Australia s national character has been studied by many writers and

Nt-Probph Case Study
Introduction
N terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT proBNP) is an inactive
byproduct of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP). They are released from myocytes
after the prohormone BNP (ProBNP) is cleaved into the NT proBNP and the BNP.
The synthesis of ProBNP and the release of NT proBNP and BNP are caused by
cardiac wall stress including stretching, ischemic and/or hypoxic stimuli of
myocytes. Although NT proBNP is not the active polypeptide product, it is less
labile and possesses a longer plasma half life compared to active BNP. Therefore, NT
proBNP has been used as a stable marker of BNP. Measuring the plasma
concentration of NT proBNP has been used to assist diagnosing various cardiac

LVH in rhesus macaques. Plasma Troponin I concentration was measured in some of
the LVH affected and normal rhesus macaques, and the study failed to show the
association between an elevation of Troponin I concentration and the presence of
LVH. However, no study has been performed to compare the plasma concentration of
NT proBNP in the rhesus macaques with LVH and controls. The purpose of the
present study is to compare the concentrations of NT proBNP in rhesus macaques
with LVH and controls using commercially available ELISA kit. Associatin between
the NT proBNP concentration and various features of LVH including left ventricular
wall thickness will be also be evaluated. We hypothesized that rhesus macaques with
LVH show higher concentrations of NT proBNP attributed to the hypertrophied
ventricular walls with diastolic dysfunction, and the severity of left ventricular wall
thickness is associated with the plasma NT proBNP concentration.

Destiny In The Aeneid
Many may tell themselves, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul ,
William Ernest Henley s, Invictus. Individuals often believe life is independent of
outside forces; one does not often ponder whether situations that introduce decisions
or experiences are controlled by fate and the gods. In Virgil s The Aeneid, he
introduces the notion that we are all subject to the workings of fate regardless of our
will or desire; this is shown through the tragic romance between Aeneas, a Trojan, and
Dido, the queen of Carthage. Their love and lives are a combination of free will, fate,
and the work of the gods. We are all brought into the world without choice, thus lack
the will to change our destiny from birth. In the end, however it... Show more content

The gods do not have power over fate, but this not discourage their usage of influence
within human lives.
Once Dido s and Aeneas love has been set on its course, he receives word from the
god Mercury to return to his duties for Troy, Blind to your own realm, oblivious to
your fate! (Virgil, p.136) Aeneas desires the love of Dido, but recognizes his
obligation to found Rome. This is where a complication arises regarding fate.
Aeneas strayed from his destiny, moving alongside his desires rather than uniting
his aspirations with his obligations, thus creating conflict within his life and
difficulties weighing the importance of his obligations and desires. The pressures
of fate and the gods were not in Aeneas control; however, it was his own decision to
fall in love with Dido and ignore his mission, even if momentarily. As humans we are
obligated to one another regardless of desire.
Later, Aeneas decides to return to the path molded for him: in spite of all he obeys
the gods commands and back he goes to his ships. (Virgil, p. 141) Aeneas ignores
his passion for Dido and continues on his path of obligation to Troy. It was not the
decision of the gods, nor the doing of fate; Aeneas decisions are his own. However,
if Aeneas would have strayed towards his desires, he would have continuously ended
up within the line of his destiny because regardless of our wants we ultimately walk
within the parameters Fate allows. Virgil
Effectiveness Of A Volunteer Team Group Structure
Our intervention occurred at the group level, where we also needed to consider the
inputs, design components and outputs in order to do group level diagnosis. Here
we looked at goal clarity, task structure, functioning of the group, composition, and
performance norms. Ward s volunteer team group structure deviated widely from
most for profit companies: the design components are all loosely defined. Because
Ward teams depend on volunteers it is more challenging to hold teams to any kind of
performance measures. We also looked at the individual level design components:
tasks identity, significance, autonomy, variety, and feedback. Here, too, it is difficult
to hold members to performance standards. Although we concluded that the group
level performance gap was largely a result of inadequate communication, individual
outputs were also not as desired. Volunteers varied in performance; however, you
couldn t fire them. There were no repercussions for absenteeism. They lacked KSA s
and often motivation to do a good job. Showing up was the highest expectation.
Understanding all of the organizational, group and individual inputs, design
components and outputs is critical to determine effectiveness. In most companies
with HR, the OD professional would likely need to work with HR to gain this
knowledge. HR is a source of data and has experience working with line managers
and staff, or at least offers a different perspective. Here is one area where the push

Protestant Reformation Dbq
The Reformation had an impact on Europe by allowing its citizens to have the ability
to learn the Bible on their own, as well as, enabling government to free itself from
Catholic rule.
The Protestant Reformation was a movement against the unruly ways of the Catholic
Church and the ways that they were abusing the people under their influence.
According to Luther, he wanted the Catholic Church to change their ways and freeze
all actions that obtained money for abolishment of sins (Luther, 2011). Martin Luther
also saw, after a visit to Rome, that the clergy had too much power and should
relinquish some of that power to help the people.
The Protestant Reformation started after Martin Luther published his Ninety Five
Theses in Wittenburg, Germany.

Cassius Dio s Roles Of The Empire And Augustus
Cassius Dio insists the empire and Augustus owe an extraordinary amount to Gaius
Maecenas, Marcus Agrippa, and to a lesser extent, Livia. While the empire had
problems with stability from time to time, the three of them had their roles in
cultivating prosperity. The role of lifelong friend and confidante is attributed to
Agrippa, as his loyalty ceased to cultivate throughout the years. The trifecta aided
Augustusin ruling and improving the empire, while sporadically corralling the
Octavian mindset inside of Augustus. Augustus single handedly appointed Agrippa to
settle disputes that arose on the frontier, and in Rome. He was the ultimate plug n
play general of the empire, and proved his worth early on until his death in 12 B.C
through military ventures and building projects. Gaius Maecenas had a profound
impact on Augustus decision to retain the power that he acquired after defeating
Marc Antony and Cleopatra, which shaped the government into what eventually
existed in Dio s time. He also handled important business in Rome while the emperor
was absent, acting as a sit in caesar, if you will. Livia attempted to promote the
women of Rome, while also helping Augustus soothe relationships with the latter s
enemies. However, mischievous presumptions loom from Dio around Livia regarding
certain disastrous events. Nonetheless, without Livia, Maecenas, and especially
Agrippa, Octavian might not have ever had the chance to rule Rome. Cassius Dio

Honey Bees Importance
Why Bees are important to humanity
Unknowingly, an insect as a bee can have catastrophic harm to our lives. Bees may
seem very dangerous but they are the species that has dramatic effects to our
supplies and business. Bees are very essential to our everyday lives because without
bees our food necessities, health essentials, and economy decrease. Honey bees
should be protected because without them we would lose a vital source of food and
medicinal treatments, and nature like basic flowers and plants will eventually rot
and die. For example, fertilization is a high incentive for the utilization of honey
bees since they are responsible for pollinating nearly 85% of all food crops for

have no real way to reproduce and die out. (The Benefits of Bees. ) Bees are
extremely critical in the way of life of most plant and blooms. There are many types

Importance Of Shitty First Draft
Without a few errors, I m sure most of us will agree that we can t become

essential to be a good writer. Anne states, all good writers write shitty first drafts,
this is how they end up with good second drafts and the terrific third draft. With a
few deep breaths, and maybe 3 cups of coffee combined with red bull, you could be
ready to have an astonishing paper. According to Anne, the first draft is a child s

you can shape it later. For this reason, shitty first drafts are vital! No matter how
embarrassing these first drafts may be, no matter how much crap it may contain,
Corporate Governance And Insider Trading
CHAPTER I
THE CONCEPT OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND INSIDER TRADING

The following things can be expected to be ensured by good corporate governance:
Effectual decision making by the management with proper disclosures necessary from
time to time to accomplish the corporate objectives.
The business transactions are expected to be carried out transparently by the
management.
All the statutory and legal obligations to be followed without any breach of the law.
Interest of all the stakeholders to be protected by the actions of the management.
The maintenance of ethical conduct and commitment to the values while carrying out

In other words, corporate governance is the acceptance by management of the
inalienable rights of shareholders as the true owners of the corporation and of their
own role as trustees on behalf of the shareholders. It deals with conducting the affairs
of a company such that there is fairness to all stakeholders and that its actions benefit
the greatest number of stakeholders. In this regard, the management needs to prevent
asymmetry of benefits between various sections of shareholders, especially between
the owner, managers and the rest of the shareholders.
A good Corporate Governance is integral to the very existence of a company and
strengthens investor s confidence by ensuring company s commitment to higher
growth and profits. Broadly, it seeks to achieve the following objectives:

National Parks In The Canadian Economy
The Canadian government and people spent millions on national parks each year on
the upkeep of their national parks. Unfortunately, this past year alone they have lost
about $30 million in national funding. However in 2015 spending was $3.3 billion
total. Of that, 82% ($2.7 billion) was visitors spending alone. Furthermore, visitors
spending accounts for 75% of the GDP impact, 76% of employment impacts and
62% of the tax impact. (Parks Canada, 2016). As these numbers show National Parks
are a very large part of the Canadian Economy. With the budget cuts this means that
parks will be open for shorter seasons and many staff members will lose their jobs.

BENEDICT CASTRO, RESPONDENT.
DECISION
NACHURA, J.:
This is a Petition for Review on Certiorari under Rule 45 of the Rules of Court,
assailing the September 1, 2008 Decision[1] and the January 7, 2009 Resolution[2] of
the Court of Appeals (CA), affirming with modification the November 29, 2007
resolution[3] of the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), which held that
respondent Benedict Castro was not illegally dismissed. The CA, however, awarded
respondents money claims, viz.:

He acted with serious misconduct which breached the trust and confidence reposed in
him by the company. He was duly furnished with the twin notices required by the
Labor Code and further, he is not entitled to overtime pay, rest day pay, night shift
differential, holiday pay, and service incentive leave pay because he was a
supervisor, hence, a member of the managerial staff.
In a decision dated June 29, 2007,[7] the LA ruled in favor of respondent by
declaring him illegally dismissed and ordering petitioners to pay his full backwages
and, in lieu of reinstatement, his separation pay. The LA further awarded respondents
money claims upon finding that he was not occupying a managerial position. The
decretal portion of the decision reads:
WHEREFORE, all premises duly considered, [petitioners] are hereby found guilty
of illegally dismissing [respondent]. As such, [petitioners] shall be jointly and
solidarily liable to pay [respondent] his full backwages from the date of his

Statues of David Essay
There have been many staues of David sculpted by famous artists like Donatello,
Verrocchio, and Michelangelo. Bernini s version of David and is about to begin his
attack on Goliath, as he appears posing. The statue seems to be moving through space
and the action suggests that the action of flinging the stone requires a lot of room
around David. The statue forces the observer to look past the actual subject and focus
more on the surroundings. He seems to have very muscular legs, and appears to be
ready to turn and throw a stone from his sling. This is the most dramatic pose that
Bernini could have picked and was chosen because it shows a sudden burst of
energy and a moment of suspense as well. Bernini s David is different from that of...

In addition, it is different from the narrative form that Bernini created. Verrocchio
shows David standing over the giant s head with pride. This bears resembles
Donatello s David where David is standing with a foot on top of his oppressor.
Michelangelo was another artisan who portrayed David in a unique matter. He
didn t represent David standing over a defeated Goliath, but instead made him
look like he was patiently awaiting his enemy. The body has a very classical form
and is muscular and very tense. The form makes David look powerful.
Michelangelo made David very strong with well defined features, iand even
included enlarged hands to show the viewer of the strength that David had before
attacking Goliath. Unlike other versions at the time, Michelangelo didn t create a
version of a prideful David, but instead a David who was amongst or aware of his
enemy.
Donatellos, Verrochio s, and Michelangelo s figures compare in the sense that none
of them show any physical activity and are shown as prideful as they stand over
oppressors. Bernini s rendition of David is unique in the sense that he creates a more
narrative figure instead of one that is poised and more classical in style. Protestants
strongly believed that imagery presented in the church could cause people to venerate
figures in statues rather than focus all their attention on God during the
The Giant Peach Play Essay
At the Seattle Children s theater, the peach on the James and the Giant Peach play
was shaped as a circle. It was orange, with a green leaf. It was a stage prop that can
be moved around. One time during the play, the peach itself had white spots in it.
The lighting was dark everywhere else but on the actors themselves. They had spot
lights on them. James was also holding the bag full of the green magic. One thing
that I thought was different was the rhino and how it was a machine that was
swaying back and forth. I believe this play had more special effects with having
props move like the rhino, the peach spinning, clouds coming down, When the
bugs were smaller, the actors were holding them as of puppets which it looked like
they were connected to them as well. Then once they got big, the actors were
dressed as the bugs themselves. The actress that was the spider had a black jacket
on with a white fur with a hint of purple around her neck. She was also wearing a
hat on her head. Then the bottom half she was wearing a black and white tutu with
black and white shoes as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It looked exactly like a peach. It is an orange round object with a hole in where he
crawls in and then the prop is also able to turn around so it looks like the insides of
a peach. They were able to act in it just like in the book and movie where they were
able to go inside the peach. turns around and they act on it when it was time for
them to go inside the peach. The lighting on this one was great. There was a part
where they showed a shadow of a person on their window playing a violin. They
also showed on the same prop the peach growing into the big peach it turns out to
be. The lighting of the stage was dark with a purple tint to it and the actors and
actresses had the spotlight as well. James was holding the bag with the magic green
lights which was cool to see in this
The Tale of Robin Hood Essay example
THESIS STATEMENT Although only slightly factual in historical setting, the
legends of Robin Hood have captivated the imaginations of young and old alike
through the charming stories concerning the characters of Sherwood Forest.
PURPOSE STATEMENT Through critical analysis and research concerning the
legends and characters surrounding Robin Hood, this paper will present the theme of
social justice for the common man as purported by the Merry Men of Sherwood
Forest.
INTRODUCTION The tale of Robin Hood has evolved into one of the greatest
legends of all time and has fascinated the minds of all who have heard about it. The
stories surrounding Robin Hood and his adventures took place in the forests of
Sherwood and Barnsdale dating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Robin Hood was an outlaw who did not obey the law, then why was he viewed as
a heroic character? The answer was that he stood for the common man. He was a
people s hero and a champion of the poor. Anthony Pollard reveals Robin Hood s
reasoning for robbing the rich and giving to the poor is his book Imagining Robin
Hood. He explains that He does not rob the rich to give to the poor. He robs from
the undeserving and helps the deserving (4). Robin Hood is considered a fictional
character but the impact his legends had on our society is very real, and will
influence generations form many years to come.
THE REAL ROBIN HOOD When dealing with the fictional character of Robin
Hood, it is easy to get lost in the fantasy of his tale because of the additions to the
story through oral tradition over the years. However, there was a real life Robin
Hood who was much different than what twentieth century cinemas portrayed him
as being. The real Robin Hood was born at Locksley in the county of Nottingham
during the reign of Henry II. It may be confusing to many people to hear that he was
a yeoman, nothing more, nothing less. The ideal supremacy from his legends
depicts him as being a knight in shining armor, but the history from his ballads tells
otherwise. Although no scholar has ever proved his existence, the setting in which
most of his exploits took place was very real.. His

The Complexity of the Kidney

The Complexity of the Kidney
Kidneys are complex organs that are very important when it comes to the many
functions to help maintain the health of the body. This includes the maturation of the
red blood cells, regulation of blood pressure as well as secretion of hormones. The
Secondary functions of the filtration effect the controlling of the acid base balance in
the body, and maintaining bone health (livingstrong.com). Kidney structure include
the renal corpuscle that filters the blood, passing of urine, and different tubules
(comprised of a dowman s capsule and glomerulus). The renal corpuscle are made of

In addition the nephron is divided into several segments. The Henie cell includes a
special transporter called sodium potassium 2, chloride contransporter (nkcc) that
allows the kidney to produce urine (biology.com). The distal tubule cell help
contain thiazide sensitive sodium filtered by the kidney on a daily basis, and the
collecting duct that have two cells responsible for acid base hemostasis. The alpha
intercalated cell controls the excess of secretion and reabsorbing base (form of
bicarbonates) and the beta intercalated cell which includes the same function
(biology.com). Every day the kidney s filter on an average of about 120 to 150
quarts of blood that produces 1 to 2 quarts of urine that has extra fluid and waste.
The importance of the kidney is to keep the blood stable so the body can function
properly. The fluids that are removed from the body help prevent blood cells and
large molecules (proteins) from passing. Once filtered it can pass through the tubule
that sends minerals back into the blood stream to remove waste (niddk.nih.gov). If
the kidney functions properly it regulates the retention of fluids in the body. It
balances the chemicals like potassium for the heart and muscle function. It can also
maintain acid balance and proteins. Hormones in the kidney stimulate activity in the
body, renin erythropoietin, and a form of vitamin D. Renin helps to control blood
pressure. The kidney also releases the erythropoietin to help

Greenville Community Shelter
I decided to visit the Greenville Community Shelter. The community shelter is
located on 207 Manhattan Ave, Greenville, North Carolina. The mission of this
facility is to serve the poor and homeless in a continuum of care from basic shelter
to prevention that empowers clients to achieve and maintain lives of self
sufficiency . (GreenvilleCommunityShelter.org) This facility is known as an
emergency shelter facility only. As an emergency shelter, it is only open on a
nightly basis from 6 pm 8pm on a first come first serve bias. An emergency shelter
provides its clients with temporary shelter and meals. After 8 pm, the facility closes.
The facility only stays open longer if the temperature is too hot or too cold or if
there are extreme weather... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, a client must show proof of their homelessness. Proof could be a letter from a
family member, previous homeless shelter, or an eviction notice stating the client has
been evicted. Secondly, a client must have a state issued photo I.D. If the client does
not have the proper identification. The shelter will go through the necessary steps to
ensure that person receives an ID. Lastly, if a client has children, they must provide
the facility with each child s birth certificate. Once the shelter reteaches its maximum
limit clients have to go through another procedure to ensure the safety in the facility.
Clients have to take a breathalyzer test and blow nothing other than a 0.0. If the
client fails the test, they will not be able to stay in the shelter for that night. Clients
are then patted down for weapons and their bags are checked. After the safety
procedure, clients are assigned a bed. All procedures are done each night to ensure
safety and consistency. Once the shelter reaches its maximum intake they provide
clients dinner and breakfast the following morning. After breakfast, clients have
assigned chores they including cleaning up. When the chores are finished, clients
must leave the facility until it time for it to reopen at

Do I have enough money to retire? As the wave of boomers approach retirement, this
is the question on the minds of many. But, how do you find an answer to this most
important, but complex of questions? Will a refrigerator crate over an urban heating
grate be your version of condo living in retirement or will you thrive? There is a lot
written on this topic, but how do you put the pieces together to get an answer for you?
As I have attempted to come to grips with this issue in my own retirement planning,
I have identified five steps. Follow these steps and you should have a sense of
whether you have the financial resources to retire:
STEP #1: Determine your retirement income:
Social Security: The Social Security Administration can provide an estimate of your
retirement benefits. Get an estimate of your benefits at the ssa.gov/estimator/ website.
Pension Benefits: Pensions are becoming less frequent these days. If your current
employer offers a pension plan, contact your Human Resources Department

  • 1. Workplace Safety Essay Writing an essay on workplace safety is no easy task. It involves delving into a complex and multifaceted subject that requires a thorough understanding of various aspects of occupational health and safety. The difficulty arises from the need to balance statistical data, legal frameworks, and real-life scenarios, while also addressing the human element involved in workplace safety. Researching the topic involves navigating through a vast sea of information, ranging from government regulations to industry-specific guidelines. Understanding the nuances of different work environments, hazards, and preventive measures adds another layer of complexity. Moreover, presenting the information in a coherent and engaging manner requires a careful selection of relevant details and a structured approach. Crafting an impactful essay on workplace safety also involves addressing the emotional and ethical dimensions associated with the topic. Balancing the gravity of potential workplace accidents with the need for practical solutions and preventive measures is a delicate task. Additionally, conveying the importance of individual responsibility and collective awareness without sounding overly didactic is a challenge in itself. Moreover, the language used in such an essay needs to be clear, concise, and accessible to a wide audience. • 2. Abortion Did Not Lower Crime Rate Ever since Freakonomics was published, and sold, which it sold very well to be honest, there has been many debates about one theory that Steven D. Levitt used to explain why the crime rate dropped in the 1990 s. That theory is that the Supreme Court case of Roe V Wade, which legalized abortion in all fifty states. Steven Levitt stated in Freakonomics that the legalization of abortion had the biggest percentage of why the crime rate went down. Yet, I would like to question this theory myself. One big controversy that I have with this theory is that Mr. Levitt did not put in to factor the crack issues that were occurring during the time. The 1990 s was the biggest boom for the crack industry, becoming the major reason of why people were committing homicide during the decade. So how does one truly know if those fetuses that were aborted would have joined the crack fiasco (http://online.wsj.com /public/article/SB113314261192407815 HLjarwtM95Erz45QPP0pDWul8rc_20061127.html?mod=tff_main_tff_top). Another issue that I have with this abortion theory is that it is being conducted as a total, complete whole of all people in the United States. In the 1970 s non white females were at their peak of abortions. One would expect that the crime rate should be the lowest then in the 1990 s for non whites, but in the years of 1993 and 1994 homicide was at its peak for young black male adults. Even though the statistics prove this to be true, Levitt and his partner of this theory, John
  • 3. The World s Economy And Lowering Its Credit Rating Winston Churchill called for the concept of a kind of United States of Europe , and with an ever closer European Union both with tenacious economic and political ties, his call is materialising by the day. Though favoured by Churchill, the high European migrant levels and the erosion of Britain s sovereignty has led to the questioning of the so called European super state . Britain voting out on the 23rd. June would result in Brexit and subsequently an end to free trade with its European counterparts. This would release her from the shackles of tariffs and quotas that are present for non EU trade, leading to potential trade deals with Eastern countries such as China. Further to ones discussion with Britain being EUs second largest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He discusses how in the event of Brexit , Britain would be at the back of the queue in securing a NAFTA type deal. A benefit of Brexit discussed by EU out supporters is the ability of Britain to forge trade deals with other non EU nations such as the US. However this prospect of a Britain America trade deal has been dampened by Obama s comments, suggesting that America is busy negotiating deals with EU and that Britain will have to wait possibly another ten years. Obama further comments on how EU magnifies Britain s global influence and that Brexit would hamper this. Penny Mordaunt from The Telegraph has dismissed his comments as woeful ignorance saying his belief ...that .. divisions in Europe would weaken NATO is not true arguing those divisions are caused by the EU itself. Mordaunt continues to argue how Obama confuses collective action through NATO with the integration at all costs ideology that motivates the EU too explaining that the EU has nothing to do with Britain s international influence, NATO does. Obama s argument is weak whilst discussing trade deals as he has reached his final year of his presidency and cannot dictate on future deals especially with republican candidates Cruz stating an American British deal would occur immediately not back of the queue as Obama has suggested. However his stance on weakening of Britain s influence is a possibility as
  • 4. Summary Of Kenneth Slessor s North Country Through the immersion of one in a variety of physical environments, the manipulation of genre, form and perspective presents a polysemic representation of a diverse range of landscapes, in turn allowing responders to develop complex understandings into the human psyche. Specifically, through the interwoven utilization of complex allusions and personalized outlooks Alain De Bottons The Art Of Travel shapes humanities greater knowledge of traveling s impact on the human behavior and perception. Likewise, this notion is extended amongst Kenneth Slessor s minimalistic, poetic piece North Country in which the composer highlights man s dichotomous relationship with the physical world, and how ongoing, differentiated experiences cultivate interpersonal growth and develop individualized standpoints towards the wider globe. Consequently, both texts elicit portrayals of innumerable landscapes, which foreground the intricacies of civilization through the construction of a piece that reveals the subjectivity of our human mentalities today. Recollecting empowers the individual to delve deeper into meaningful encounters that assist in developing identity whether it be from a reminisced, imaginative or realistic. Illustrating this analogy is Botton s AOT through its alteration of the basic novel structure to fully capture landscapes as the product of personal perception, all whilst challenging the reader to reconsider the true sense of these places and their everlasting impact on
  • 5. Engine Management System ( Ems ) With a tougher legislation and the need for cleaner and more economical engine operation, it has become increasingly more difficult to design an engine which can be compatible with the new requirements. Engine Management System (EMS) is an integrated electrical system which can achieve this by closely monitoring the operation of an engine. It monitors and controls all the key functions of the engine and the exhaust aftertreatment system for a cleaner, more efficient and high power output operation. EMS controls key systems such as fuel injection, turbocharging and exhaust gas recirculation. 1 Air subsystem Air subsystem is a key factor in determining torque output and, engine performance. More the cylinder charged with clean air, the higher the maximum possible engine power output. Figure 1 shows the main components of an air subsystem: The air filter prevents particles and dust from entering the engine in order to reduce wear in the bearings, piston rings, cylinder walls. It also prevents higher fuel consumption and pollutant emissions which result from particles in the engine. Then supercharging/turbocharging is utilised to increase the power output from the engine by drawing pressurised air under force into the cylinders thus higher air mass. This has a great effect in reducing the fuel consumption and exhaust gas emission rates. Compressing the air by the turbocharger, leads to excess heat which has a negative effect on cylinder charge. Downstream of the

In the region there is a long history of what is currently understood as modernization. To parallel that, connected to the Middle East is also a history of being understood as backward or behind in comparison to the West. It seems as if no matter what the empires (now nation states), and the people, of the Middle Eastdo they are constantly going to be relinquished to the other. Global capitalism made its way into the Ottoman empire through a variety of imperial, colonial, and personal sentiments. Imperial and colonial attitudes are the most easily recognized. These processes involve expansion and often domination over other areas, and empires. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Post colonization in the Middle East there have been numerous efforts by the West to continue to assert their control. As is explained in A Clash of Civilizations there is an expansion of specifically American control on global institutions, such as the U.N to push human rights imperialism. Huntington write, countering the aforementioned idea, the West in effect is using international institutions military power and economic resources to run the world in ways that will maintain Western pre dominance, protect Western interests and promote Western political and economic values (Huntington, 40). There is a rhetoric used, one that Said comments on, that maintains an otherness of the Middle East. They are labeled the Orient, a place that is much greater in size than the West world but that is held in tandem with them. Or, they are held as lesser than the West. Beyond the direct colonization of the twentieth century, the entrance of the Middle East into modernity allows judgements to be made on a global

World War II was the start of true tank combat and new designs of tanks and every other type of military vehicle and weapon. Most people when they think of World War II and tanks, lots of them look at the Sherman in the Tiger who would always be matched up against each other on the Eastern Front. No, I won t be talking about those tanks though, albeit they are the most comparable Tanks not because they are similar, but because how different they are and how often they clashed with different results. These two tanks the M18 and the Abrams could be seen as father and son or more likely Grandfather and Grandson. Both have the best kill ratios of the US in their time against enemy tanks. The Abrams has an almost perfect kill ratio with no crew members being directly killed in battle inside of the tank surpassing that of the German tanks in World War II. The M18 on the other hand had a kill ratio of 3 to 1 approximately Meaning for every tank destroyer lost 3 enemy tanks were destroyed. For being such a light armored vehicle it was one of the most exceptional kill ratios. Both of these tanks could be seen as the best of their times with both firepower and maneuverability accounting for that result. The differences of these two tanks For the most part are really obvious. For one the M18 is a light armored tank destroyer that was made to be fast and light on its feet; with a powerful gun and barely any protection against enemy vehicles armor wise. The Abrams on the other hand was made also to be fast and light on its feet with a powerful gun, but also to be able to protect its crew to the point where no crew member would be killed in the event of a hit. On the battlefield today the Abrams is one of the safest places to be in any combat situation. The Abrams armor is made of
  • 8. Technological Advances And Its Impact On Business Environment Our world is constantly in flux and change is a permanent feature of the environment for workers as well as organizations. Rapidly changing technological capabilities as well as advances have radically changed the nature of work and communication over the last 150 years. The average office or retail clerk would find many of the changes in how business is conducted from the early 20th century to today almost incomprehensible. Furthermore, rapid cultural changes and expectations have also changed how we interact and what our expectations are. In order for organizations to remain relevant in today s business environment they must be able to adapt quickly to the changing needs of their customers as well as identify and implement appropriate technological advances to the their business strategy and model. Accomplishing these changes effectively requires that organizations implement these changes in a manner that achieves employee or associate, buy in and support. Walmart is currently in the midst of a major roll out of new technology, as well as significant process changes. These changes are in response to technological advances, and customerexpectations. Successful implementation of these programs will improve the company s position relative to competitors as well as in the eyes of consumers. Over the last several years the company has experienced a significant drop in customer satisfaction. According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), an independent

As begun with the initial Aberdeen plant manager, Bob Lancaster, then proceeded by Jeff Bust and finally Roger Campbell, Aberdeen was managed as a family instead of a simple work plant. As noted within Clawson s, Custom Business Resources, Aberdeen was built on trust of every employee. Lancaster s view was to manage in a manner to eliminate fear in his employees and instead increase productivity and potential beneficial risk taking, by organizing self directing work teams, expecting the employees to assume and exercise responsibility and maintain high standards of quality and service. Teams were created for every division with respective team leaders elected to help manage the family. Management made their employees feel trusted and implemented an almost self directed system with just the appropriate amount of upper level development in planning and

It began in the 1960s, when corporations such as SeaWorld, captured wild animals from their natural habitats. In 1993, when Free Willy, a film about a captive orca and his journey to freedom came out, it was the first time a worldwide audience fell in love with these amazing creatures of the ocean. However, the issue with orcas being held captive is still an issue today. There is animal captivity all around the world, but the issue at SeaWorld, is one of many documentaries, articles and speeches, made to fight the neglect towards orcas in SeaWorld. SeaWorld s entertainment has caused arguments and disagreements since the 60s. In Canada, back when there was a place called Sea Land, there was a brutal method they used to capture the orcas. The first thing they did was to go out on a boat, see a mother and her baby, then corner them. Take the calf away from the mother, then throw them in little rings, separated from each other, confined in their own areas. They capture them from just being out in the open, or their taken from other places, or bred in Captivity. From that park, it got shut down, but all of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Santa Claus Argumentative Essay The Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Boogeyman, and Santa Claus, what do all of these have in common? For me, it is the innocence of a child. Children seem to be more gullible and believe anything you tell them; they do not know the difference between a lie and the truth. During the Christmas of 2003, I was five years old and still believed in Santa Claus. The fact of believing in Santa Claus expresses the innocence of a child and brings the magic to Christmas. • 12. The World Of Graphic Design The world of Graphic Design has been revolutionized time and time again with many artists setting high standards for aspiring graphic designers. Two artists who are interesting and innovative in their own ways are graphic designers Chipp Kidd and Jennifer Morla. Kidd has created many design successes with some of his most famous book jackets being Jurassic Park, Naked by Davis Sedaris and All the Pretty Horses. The designs of the books are all drastically diverse, making it difficult to pinpoint the designs to one single artist. However dissimilar the designs are, they have two things in common; they are innovative and perfectly reflect the content of the pages between the covers. Jennifer Morla is an artist with a differing career from Kidd. She focuses on branding of companies rather than book jackets. She has worked with companies such as Levi s, Apple Computer, Design Within Reach, Wells Fargo, Herman Miller to help form a clean brand for the companies. I am researching the histories of both Chipp Kidd and Jennifer Morla because they are both trailblazers in the Graphic Designworld and have come from drastically different backgrounds. Their histories and accomplishments can have a great impact on aspiring graphic designers. To begin, we will take a trip back in time to the summer of 1964. This was the time when perhaps the most recognizable book cover designer, Chip Kidd, was born. He grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and his infatuation for pop culture and

One additional note is that assistance provided should be tailored country by country to best fit each country s specific situation. 3. Part of the reason the World Banks standard Structural Adjustment Policies has been counterproductive partially because of unfortunate timing. Reduce government spending caused a recessionary effect, decreasing demand and increasing unemployment hurt nations. Strict monetary policy raised interest rates and helped to further suffocate investment demand and access to capital for poor farmers and low income entrepreneurs. Currency devaluation did make exports cheaper but at a time when export markets for primary goods were oversupplied and prices were falling. Import cost also rose making it more expensive for domestic producers to obtain new technology and replacement parts. In addition, privatization of government enterprises also increased efficiency, which was accompanied by downsizing, which resulted in unemployment for thousands of the middle class. A Review Of Different Elicitation Techniques A Review of Different Elicitation Techniques in Requirement Engineering CECS 590 SAI CHARAN GOUD KOLANU (012793649) INTRODUCTION: Requirement Engineering is the initial and crucial step in the Software Development. In the past few years Requirement Engineering phase has been given much of an importance, it basically refers to gathering of information from the client that is required for the development of the project. This phase is crucial as it forms the foundation of the project. The Requirement Engineering phase is broke down into three stages, Requirement Elicitation, Requirement Specification and Requirement validation. This paper is going to discuss the various techniques that are generally practiced for Requirement Elicitation. The term Requirement Elicitation refers to gathering of information about the project from clients, users and other stake holders. It is quite a complicated process as the user never really knows what exactly he wants, the information cannot be collected just by asking different questions about the project. There are various techniques that are in practice for this purpose. Rest of this paper discusses about such techniques along with their pros and cons. SEARCH STRATEGY: The data that is collected for this paper is obtained from various articles and research papers. Search Engines like Scholar.google.com and csulb.edu/library have been used for the searching purpose. The articles are selected based on the requirement i.e. the articles that
  • 15. Polygamy in Canada Essay Within Canada we have a generous amount of freedom but this leads to the abuse of our system. This is especially true with regards to polygamy in Bountiful, BC. Because women are susceptible to mental abuse in polygamist relationships it should continue to be illegal in Canada. If this law is in enforced it would help women to be freed of the oppression caused by male domination, eliminate the need for women to suppress feelings that conflict with the ideals of the polygamylife, and aid in avoiding depression resulting from the build up of concealed feelings. Polygamy is the case in which a man or a woman has multiple spouses. One branch of polygamy is termed polygyny , which is when one man is married to several wives (Zeitzen 3). ... Of course here an opponent might validly argue that men must take the dominant role and provide authority due to the idea: women report more intense and persistent anger than do men (88:1546). However, even though it is true that women are more susceptible to revealing their emotions; women are just as capable as men to run their lives in a constructive, healthy way. Polygynist men have hidden behind the blanket of religion to justify their male supremacy and dismantle the strength and equality of women in a whole. Many women in polygynist relationships tend to hide their feelings, but why? Daphne Braham writes [women are] taught to suppress [these] emotions and to put all their energy into obeying the word of their prophet. (17) Therefore, any thoughts of resentment, jealousy or so forth are not acceptable. When a man has so many wives they have no choice but to be submissive if they want to avoid being left out; because the husband can turn to another one of his wives to get what he desires. In Dena Hassouneh Phillips article, Polygamy and Wife Abuse: A Qualitative Study of Muslim Women in America, she notes a report from a second wife who felt insignificant in her polygamous marriage due to the lack of attention

In my opinion, this powerful statement by Rudy Giuliani, the previous New York City Mayor during 9/11, ultimately sums up and implies the importance of commemorating the anniversary of September 11th. This quote is not only consoling but serves as a reminder to all Americans that our nation, when unified, is nearly imperishable. Throughout the film In Memoriam, there are several tragic and devastating images of the fateful day. In terms of describing the events, the film successfully addresses not only what occurred outside the Twin Towers, but also what was happening on the inside such as the phone calls to family members and friends. It was mentioned that older people in the buildings gave their chance down the elevator to those that were younger. There are several scenes that show and tell the different stories of those that were trapped. On the outside one can see the distress among the New Yorkers and the distraught faces of the pedestrians that were fixated on the near collapsing buildings. The scenes of debris falling, office papers flying everywhere, and the clouds of dust rolling through the streets is what made most people compare it what Hell might be like. The film accurately covered every aspect and event of 9/11 from the first airstrike at 8:46 am to the very funerals of those whose lives were taken. The lack of censorship throughout the film is what I feel most definitely helps to capture the brutality that was inflicted towards the United States that day. What I felt when watching these events was utter helplessness, yet patriotism when seeing the several Americans working together to help one

It can be because of political differences, old grudges, or just because it can. The state can cause economic and financial hardship. The reader is able to infer the situation from the passage despite it not being clearly mentioned. The reader infers that the passage is about a juvenile boy who sits beside his dying mother and is then taken care of by family friends, predominantly the Chins. The reader is able to assume that the mother of the child has died, by the mention of how my [his] mommy s voice... would never say again. This along with the hullabaloo and a sense of emergency projected in the first paragraph indicate that the mother is no more. The rigid arms suggest that the mother s arms are dead. The cacophony of the word rigid creates a sense of chaos for the readers. The passage is written in first person narrative, providing the reader with meaningful insights from the boy who has lost his mother. The author makes use of varying sentence styles. Simple sentences are used to merely narrate the event Mr. Chin was shouting instructions. Mrs. Chin called my name. These simple sentences help maintain a slow pace of the text, and create a dull tone to commemorate the death. Some sentences like the ones in Lines 3 5 are fragmented, revealing the incident one step at a time. Choy makes use of various symbols and techniques to provide reassurance to the young boy. Anaphora is successfully used in Lines 7 ( Don t be afraid... don t be afraid... ) to reassure the boy

The role of lifelong friend and confidante is attributed to Agrippa, as his loyalty ceased to cultivate throughout the years. The trifecta aided Augustusin ruling and improving the empire, while sporadically corralling the Octavian mindset inside of Augustus. Augustus single handedly appointed Agrippa to settle disputes that arose on the frontier, and in Rome. He was the ultimate plug n play general of the empire, and proved his worth early on until his death in 12 B.C through military ventures and building projects. Gaius Maecenas had a profound impact on Augustus decision to retain the power that he acquired after defeating Marc Antony and Cleopatra, which shaped the government into what eventually existed in Dio s time. With a few deep breaths, and maybe 3 cups of coffee combined with red bull, you could be ready to have an astonishing paper. According to Anne, the first draft is a child s draft, where you let it all pour out, knowing that no one is going to to see it and that you can shape it later. Bernini s version of David and is about to begin his attack on Goliath, as he appears posing. The statue seems to be moving through space and the action suggests that the action of flinging the stone requires a lot of room around David. The statue forces the observer to look past the actual subject and focus more on the surroundings. He seems to have very muscular legs, and appears to be ready to turn and throw a stone from his sling. This is the most dramatic pose that Bernini could have picked and was chosen because it shows a sudden burst of energy and a moment of suspense as well. Bernini s David is different from that of... This bears resembles Donatello s David where David is standing with a foot on top of his oppressor. Michelangelo was another artisan who portrayed David in a unique matter. He didn t represent David standing over a defeated Goliath, but instead made him look like he was patiently awaiting his enemy. The body has a very classical form and is muscular and very tense. The form makes David look powerful. Michelangelo made David very strong with well defined features, iand even included enlarged hands to show the viewer of the strength that David had before attacking Goliath. Unlike other versions at the time, Michelangelo didn t create a version of a prideful David, but instead a David who was amongst or aware of his enemy. Donatellos, Verrochio s, and Michelangelo s figures compare in the sense that none of them show any physical activity and are shown as prideful as they stand over oppressors. Bernini s rendition of David is unique in the sense that he creates a more narrative figure instead of one that is poised and more classical in style. Protestants strongly believed that imagery presented in the church could cause people to venerate figures in statues rather than focus all their attention on God during the

It was a stage prop that can be moved around. One time during the play, the peach itself had white spots in it. The lighting was dark everywhere else but on the actors themselves. They had spot lights on them. James was also holding the bag full of the green magic. One thing that I thought was different was the rhino and how it was a machine that was swaying back and forth. I believe this play had more special effects with having props move like the rhino, the peach spinning, clouds coming down, When the bugs were smaller, the actors were holding them as of puppets which it looked like they were connected to them as well. If Robin Hood was an outlaw who did not obey the law, then why was he viewed as a heroic character? The answer was that he stood for the common man. He was a people s hero and a champion of the poor. Anthony Pollard reveals Robin Hood s reasoning for robbing the rich and giving to the poor is his book Imagining Robin Hood. He explains that He does not rob the rich to give to the poor. He robs from the undeserving and helps the deserving (4). Robin Hood is considered a fictional character but the impact his legends had on our society is very real, and will influence generations form many years to come. THE REAL ROBIN HOOD When dealing with the fictional character of Robin Hood, it is easy to get lost in the fantasy of his tale because of the additions to the story through oral tradition over the years. However, there was a real life Robin Hood who was much different than what twentieth century cinemas portrayed him as being. The real Robin Hood was born at Locksley in the county of Nottingham during the reign of Henry II. It may be confusing to many people to hear that he was a yeoman, nothing more, nothing less. The ideal supremacy from his legends depicts him as being a knight in shining armor, but the history from his ballads tells otherwise. Although no scholar has ever proved his existence, the setting in which most of his exploits took place was very real.. His

The distal tubule cell help contain thiazide sensitive sodium filtered by the kidney on a daily basis, and the collecting duct that have two cells responsible for acid base hemostasis. The alpha intercalated cell controls the excess of secretion and reabsorbing base (form of bicarbonates) and the beta intercalated cell which includes the same function (biology.com). Every day the kidney s filter on an average of about 120 to 150 quarts of blood that produces 1 to 2 quarts of urine that has extra fluid and waste. The importance of the kidney is to keep the blood stable so the body can function properly. The fluids that are removed from the body help prevent blood cells and large molecules (proteins) from passing. Once filtered it can pass through the tubule that sends minerals back into the blood stream to remove waste (niddk.nih.gov). If the kidney functions properly it regulates the retention of fluids in the body. It balances the chemicals like potassium for the heart and muscle function. It can also maintain acid balance and proteins. Hormones in the kidney stimulate activity in the body, renin erythropoietin, and a form of vitamin D. Renin helps to control blood pressure.
