Unit 3 – Investigating Marketing
Introduction:
Purpose of the coursework
In this piece of marketing course work I am going to explain how to produce a marketing strategy
for a new or existing product. I will explain how my strategy is based on the principles of
marketing. I aim to use primary and secondary resources to help me to analyse the marketing
context. I will then explain how to develop a product that meets my target customer s needs.
Marketing is about understanding customers and finding ways to provide products or services in
which customers demand. Marketing is essential for a business to survive. It covers the four main
areas; product, price, promotion and place. The aims and objectives of marketing are firstly to

There are currently no mobile phones available which include virtual conferencing. As part of a
smart phone, I will include this feature so that it could be helpful for many people. Through this
graph, I can see that telelworking makes a positive impact on businesses so having this feature on a
smart phone should be very useful.
Nokia will create a marketing mix for this new smart phone. The marketing mix is the balance of
marketing techniques required for selling this product. Components of the marketing mix are
known as the four P s. These are product, place, price, promotion. The purpose of a marketing plan
is to set the direction your business will go to promote the product, build a customer base and
determine any opportunities to make a profit. When making the marketing plan, I will have to
predict and decide how my product will meet the client s needs while being successful.
A mission statement is a brief statement that outlines the purpose of the business. Mission

Amontillado Montresor Revenge
In the small hours of a cold December night, in 1916, Rasputin was driven to the palace of the
Czar s cousin Prince Yusupov; for what he thought was a secret tryst with a beautiful woman.
Together, the Prince and Rasputin descended the steps to the basement of the palace. It had been
specially converted into a small dining room, a private place to attempt to murder. While the
Prince s co conspirators waited upstairs, Yusupov passed a plate of rich sweet cream cakes to
Rasputin. Each cake held enough cyanide to kill a man. To guarantee success, the wine was also
laced with cyanide. The plan seemed foolproof. Though Rasputin ate the cream cakes and became
rather drunk from the wine, the poison seems to have no effect. Stunned, the conspirators... Show

A piece of dramatic irony that we are given is that we know Fortunato is going to be killed,
unfortunately Fortunato does not know this. Fortunato s name is even ironic. Fortunato means
the fortunate one in Italian. (Campbell) In the story it is clear he wasn t so fortunate. Fortunato
adds to the irony of his name by wearing the costume of a court jester. While Fortunato plays in
jest, Montresor sets out to fool him, with murderous results. The bells on Fortunato s jester
costume plays with the irony of the story. Roger Platizky writes, To a significant degree, Poe s
fear of live burial had a cultural counterpart. Kennedy and others have shown that premature
burial was a preoccupation in eighteenth and nineteenth century America and Europe largely
because death was more often in the hands of the medical community and funerals had become
secularized.(n2) In an attempt to keep living entombments from occurring, coffins and vaults
especially for the wealthier classes were equipped with special springs and sounding devices to
give the person mistakenly buried alive a chance to be rescued (Crichton 326 28). One of the
most pragmatic of these devices, which involved the placing of bells on the limbs of the recently
dead, was exhibited at Brooklyn s Greenwood Cemetery in 1845, just a year before Poe published
his short story. Mr. Eisenbrandt s life preserving coffin boasted a death defying

The Greatest Philosophers Of History
How can one truly expect to speculate through wild and whirling words the overwhelming
complexity that is human nature? It is undoubtedly one of the more daunting tasks that one can
choose to take on, and yet it is far from unprecedented. As human beings, we are fascinated by our
own thoughts and tendencies, and the manner in which we conduct ourselves during our short time
on earth. It is a topic that has never ceased to fascinate us, for as many aspects of it that remain
unchanging throughout the centuries, there are just as many that seem incapable of remaining
consistent. Some of the greatest philosophers of history dedicated their lives to this enigma of
humanity, and through their minds and words have seen that humannature is a product of both
nature itself and the imperative nurturing of other human beings; and that while it may be one of
the most complicated notions we will ever face, there are innate truths that cannot be contravened.
Perhaps one of the most influential discussions of humanity to have ever taken place was that of
Plato s city, a hypothetical place of dwelling meant to be a philosophical speculation of the
mannerisms of human beings as Plato and his fellows saw them to be. As a great philosopher, Plato
knew that human beings are naturally social beings, and need companionship like their bodies need
food and water. Humanscongregate into groups it is what separates them from their animalistic
instincts, and holds them above such. What is more,

Zora Neale Hurston Sweat Essay
With respect to Zora Neal Hurston s short story Sweat, the reader is introduced to the hidden
meanings within the text. Instinctively, the reader would define the meaning of sweat as moisture
leaving the body after one overexerts themselves. However, the elements in this story generates
so much more meaning to the word sweat than the reader may think. Sweat signifies
perseverance and courage and these traits becomes more evident as the reader embarks into the
story. For example, perseverance is a key attribute that Delia possesses. The reader soon discovers
that Delia makes a living by washing clothes for the community. However, her husband Sykes does
not contribute to their income in any way, is unfaithful, and beats her. The author of this story,
Zora Neal Hurston, shows how Delia expresses her frustration towards Sykes and surprisingly, this
may have been the first time Delia has stood up to him. Ah been married to you fur fifteen years,
and Ah been takin in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this story, Delia is in a war mentally and physically. Political theorist George Kateb,
analyzes the strength and endurance that comes from war. Why does war s exhilaration call forth
spontaneous courage (Kateb 18). This question is very important to the text because Delia just
snaps. She has had enough and won t stand for it anymore. There comes a point in everyone s lives
where individuals reach that breaking point and find that spontaneous courage within themselves
just like Delia did. Similarly, the words and phrases that the author uses throughout this story seem
to carry spontaneous courage. Triumphant indifference, spiritual earthworks, and pretty pass are a
few examples. These words create a visual for the reader, and the individual is able to ponder
these phrases and inevitably, find those hidden meanings and key elements to the story. One of the
key elements of Sweat is when a rattlesnake is brought to her home by

U.s. Foreign Policy History
The course of U.S. foreign policy history can be understood through watersheds, or critical points.
These points can serve as dividing lines that illuminate shifts in policy and opinion. However,
thinking of this history in terms of critical moments or turning points can simplify the complex
actors, sentiments and tendencies that create and influence foreign policy. These critical points are
not necessarily the sole cause of massive shifts in policy, but often add impetus to pre existing
tendencies. Nonetheless, watersheds can help the public digest patterns in foreign policy, playing
an important role in how American s perceive their role in the world. According to Brzezinski,
America s relationship with the world has been characterized by cycles of extroversion and
introversion , or involvement and isolationism. Throughout the nation s history, Americans have
witnessed and influenced many shifts or turns in this cycle, caused, exacerbated or illuminated by
several critical events. Through this lens, the Spanish American War, Pearl Harbor, the Vietnam
War and 9/11 are critical points that added the impetus to shift the cycle of U.S. foreign policy in
the other direction. The Spanish American war paved the way for American Imperialism,
illuminating a shift towards interventionist policies. Emerging from post WWI isolationism, the
attack on Pearl Harbor created an immediate national consensus, realigning foreign policy towards
international involvement and

It was said that Ruth is overweight and showed little success in dieting. This could be a tell tale
sign that she may have lower metabolic activity. This, coupled with a reduction in the volume of
gray matter in her prefrontal cortex may result in her having serious depression (Saveanu
Nemeroff, 2012). One of the psychological factor could be the loss of a loved one. Ruth has
suffered the death of her husband of 20 years and this may trigger her depression as it reduces her
positive reinforces in Ruth s life (Hammen, 2005) (as in Kearney Trull, 2012). Her positive
reinforces are further reduced because her children are growing up and beginning to have their own
life.
A social factor could again due to her childhood experiences. Her family showed little affection, her
mother is inconsistent in her behaviour and Ruth had to take on a parental role of taking care of her
siblings. This may lead to disorganised attachment in her childhood which contributes to the
vulnerability to depression (Dobson Dozois,

Janie goes through many phases of her life. Hurston does an extraordinary job of putting the
reader in the time period of this novel. The book becomes alive and understandable as it
progresses. The relationship of Tea Cake and Janie is crucial in the understanding of this story. In
Zora Neale Hurston s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Hurston expresses that Tea Cake does
not loveJanie when he first started seeing her, but his love and intentions change over time. In the
beginning of their relationship everything was completely different than how it ended. Janie

Tea Cake is not giving Janie the love or attention that you give to someone that you care deeply for,
and someone that you love.
Tieing in with Tea Cake constantly leaving Janie, he also leaves her and takes her two hundred
dollars. During this time period that amount of money is a lot, so for him to take this says
something about Tea Cake. This makes Tea Cake questionable. How does he even know this
money is there? ...so Janie never told him about the two hundred dollars she had pinned inside her
shirt next to her skin. (Hurston 117). Tea Cake is so desperate for this money he goes to the pointof
searching for it. Constantly leaving Janie and then going to the point of taking her money and
leaving without telling her or the fact that he has her money speaks for itself. If he loved her then
he wouldn t be taking her things, especially something like money without even asking for Janie s
permission for it.
Eventually, Tea Cake begins to show regret and guilt for his actions. He immediately wants go to
and get Janie s two hundred dollars back. This is because he knows he spent the money on a bad
cause, which was gambling. He explains, Ah won the money jus lak ah told yuh. Round midnight
ah had yo two hundred dollars... (Hurston 127). Tea Cake had to go out and fight for her money
back, which shows how he has regret in his actions. He also went as far as fighting to get what had

Of course, these factors will change over time, and we are going to adjust to any changes that
will be happening in the future. Before starting our hiring process, we need to study the level of
the Romanian workforce, and the level of competitivity that other companies represent in terms
of hiring. After identifying the number of employees we need we are going to start advertising
the available job positions on the job market. We can do that by leaving advertisements online or
in newspapers and such. Here at Blue Line we strive to have the best workers that are available,
and to pursue that we have to show them that our company is the best opportunity for them, and
that we should be their first option. After attracting a number of potential employees, we have to
go through the process of selection. Hiring decisions must be made according to the principle of
merit to ensure they are competent and have the ability to do the job. We are going to take in
consideration their education, skills, knowledge, past work performance and years of continuous
service in the required field. Selecting the right people for a company is difficult, as we must take
into account everything that could make them a good or a bad employee. A potential employee

Although there is a cost of 20 million on programming, having average rating 1,2% with a
relatively high CPM makes Ad Revenue higher and as a result Net Income becomes $168 million.
Net income in Scenario 2 is $151 million lower than Scenario 3, whereas Scenario 1 has the lowest
$77 million.
2) Analyze the segmentation options and discuss pros and cons of each.
Scenario1:
Targeting on women aged 18 to 34, with a cross segment strategy by focusing on on Fashionistas,
Planners amp; Shoppers and Situationalists.
Advantages:
Increase in rating from 1.0 to 1.2 with the increase in awareness and viewing of the channel by
investing in a major marketing and advertisement campaign. We can expect promising returns in the
long run with the rise of popularity of the network.
Disadvantages:
While the level competition is getting higher, we cannot wait for the long run, what we need is
instant return for short run. The strategy does not put an end to competition to gain Premium
segments so there is a risk of facing lower CPM. Since there is no real change in viewers type and
programming, the CPM will drop by 10% or more and

Analysis Of America The Beautiful By Ray Charles
This obvious song choice, one that was considered for the national anthem, was not selected for
its plain spoken lines, but for the singer. America the Beautiful, sung by Ray Charles, is more
than transparent lyrics; It is about a story and soulfulness. Written in 1893 by Wellesley college
professor, Katharine Lee Bates,America The Beautiful was conceived as a poem. Ray Charles
rendition of the poem was turned into a unique and historic song, one of his most memorable hits.
Since the creation of this song, it has become exceedingly popular over the past three decades; it

reinvented a piece of literature that described America to a T. He added soul and sound to an old

much of anything else that would be considered more american to myself. He was a
hardworking man, who persevered when most would have given up, and he believed in his

believing in such beauty in the world and caring for his country as he did, but he did. And
because of this, we have one of the most American songs that has ever been written, if not the
most. For those who may see this song as an easy option or too plain spoken, not delving into the

Sigmund Freud is often referred to as the father of psychoanalysis; he was the first to ask and
pursue several groundbreaking questions. However, despite any proclaimed parentage, the field has
proceeded through multiple generations since the death of Freud himself, and the once influential
name has now become a chapter in a psychology textbook, a stepping stone on the way to the

animals, so that nature, in as raw a form as Mother and Father could conceive of it, might have a

that the calm serenity of nature might find root in Peter, and as far as they are concerned, it did.

The first milestone is when the technological feasibility, whether the software can be produced to
meet its design specification, is established, and the second milestone is when the software product
is available for general release to customers. All developmental costs incurred should be expensed
before meeting the first milestone, capitalized between the first milestone and the second, and
amortized when second milestone is reached.
Microsoft argues that the time between the two milestones is usually too short for the company to
capitalize on any significant amount of costs, therefore Microsoft s policy is to expense all
research and development costs as they incur regardless of whether the milestones are reached or
not. As a result, Microsoft has relatively consistent annual expenses during its software
development process compared to companies that capitalize on costs after technological feasibility
is established. After the development process is finished, Microsoft s software will start to generate
revenue but will not appear on the company s balance sheet because no costs were capitalized.
To illustrate the impact of Microsoft s cost capitalization policy, consider a specific software that
takes three years to develop, its technological feasibility is established at the end of year two, and
the developed software will be on the market for two years. The following tables are created with
arbitrary values to compare two cases where

Extra-Legal Institutions Case Study
Due to the unlawful nature of their activities, criminals are not able to turn to the state when they
require help in enforcing contracts or to provide them with security. Instead, they have developed a
complex system of extra legal institutions, including written constitutions and a formal separation of
powers. Due to most aspects of our lives being governed by the process of competition, and the
demand for illicit goods being consistently high, it is my contention that extra legal institutions do
present an efficient solution to the problems faced by self enforced exchanges. I will explain this
position, firstly, by examining the governing institutions of the Nuestra Familia Californian prison

They are aware of one another s social standing and know who their friends are. Fear of being
deemed an outcast amongst a tightly knit group of convicts encourages the inmates to avoid
conflict where possible. When they wish to purchase illicit goods, the only place they are able
to turn is to fellow inmate entrepreneurs. If one was to take advantage in this exchange, it would
quickly be prison wide knowledge and the perpetrator would would be ostracised or assaulted.
Fear of becoming an outlaw amongst other outlaws incentivises good behaviour and cooperation
and as a result of this, the prison economy flourishes. However, since the 1950 s, it has been
difficult to find a prison which is not densely populated. It is increasingly difficult for inmates to
keep track of other prisoners and, in such a large group, ostracism is no longer a feasible
punishment device and so prisoners began to organise themselves into gangs.
La Nuestra Familia formed in the mid 1960 s as a response to the violence and oppressive

The Contemporary Water Crisis Of Mumbai
This essay will explore the contemporary water crisis in Mumbai, India; a rapidly growing
megacity that for decades has struggled to provide adequate access to water for their 20 million
residents, and in particular the more than 10 million people living in unsanctioned self erected slum
communities that surround the cityproper. Beyond the technical and structural barriers lie
ideological and cultural impediments that I will argue are borne in part from an idealized quest
for modernity informed by free market capitalism and neoliberal ideology. I will argue that this
has created deep cultural and societal rifts that have been exploited by vested economic interests
through discursive and political campaigns that seek to delegitimize the right of Mumbai s
citizens to water, and by extension life. The spectre of climate change provides a backdrop for an
existential struggle that has been unfolding for decades and appears likely to continue. This essay
will examine the circumstances and failures that preceded the 2014 landmark ruling handed down
by the High Court of Mumbai which affirmed the inalienable right to water, regardless of legal
status of one s domicile, including attempts to privatize water services in various regions of the city.

the two main spoken Arabic dialects as Al Shaam (spoken in the greater Syria) and Arabic spoken

Who Is The Protagonist In Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo Movie Review Finding Nemo is about the adventures of Nemo, a clown fish that
spends all his life with his father, Marlin. Marlin worries obsessively over his child because the
little fish is the only one that he has left. On Nemo s first day of school, Marlin makes careful
recommendations to his child that he should always stay with the class and keep off the deep
water. However, Nemo forgets the warning and ends up as a captive in an aquarium in Sydney.
Marlin bravely swims along the water flows to find his missing child, accompanied by Dory, a
regal blue tang that he comes across. After various adventures, Marlin succeeds in finding Nemo
with the aid of Dory. There are three main characters in the movie, including Marlin, Nemo, and
Dory. However, to analyze different aspects of parenting, Marlin and Nemo are the central

Love Triangles In The Arthurian Legend
вќ¤The Triangles of Loveвќ¤ In the Arthurian legend, there are many love affairs that lead to
someone s demise. The first deadly affair is among Gorlois, Igraine, and Uther Pendragon. Then,
towards the climax of the legend, comes the love between King Arthur, Guinevere, and Sir
Lancelot. The relationship between Elaine, Guinevere, and Lancelot is brought to light towards
the end of the legend. Out of the many love triangles that end in a tragedy, one example is the
love among Igraine, Gorlois, and Uther. At first, Igraine is married to Gorlois who is the Duke of
Cornwall. Both Igraine and Gorlois love each other, but apparently, they were not compatible.

Sprayable Polymer-Based Foam
Scientists have developed a new method to help battle major injuries for first responders and
combat soldiers.
The new anti bleeding material originates from shrimp shells and is later developed into a spraying
foam. This new sprayable whipped cream like foam can significantly hault bleeding for even the
most chronic open wounds, RT reported on Wednesday.
The sprayable polymer based foam can be significantly vital for treating major injuries in street
violence and combat zones.
According to a ACS Biomaterials Science Engineering study, the sprayable foam is based on an
Amphiphilic Biopolymer, and should be primarly used when compression is not an option for
treating Hemorrhage.

Currently, there is no effective way to treat such injuries. In this initial study, we demonstrate that a

Monotheism Vs Abrahamic Religion
Monotheism is the act of believing in one God. The three religions that practice monotheism are
Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Each of these religions have a direct link to Abraham; thus being
called the Abrahamic Religions. Judaism is linked to Abraham as he is proclaimed as the
Patriarch of the Jewish people and the Father of the Covenant. Likewise, Muslims view Abraham
as the Father of the Arab people as well as the Jewish people through his two sons, Isaac and
Ishmael. Christians view Abraham as the prototype of all believers, the Father of the Covenant and
the Father of Isaac and Ishmael. Sacred traditions are treated with both celebration and seriousness
in the monotheistic religions.
Just as God instructed Abraham 4000 years ago, a sacred Jewish ritual would be the circumcision
of all baby boys when they reach eight days of age. Another ritual is when families gather to
welcome the Holy day of the Sabbath. For a Jewish person, their religion is very much dedicating
their lives to God, where their whole life becomes an act of worship. The LORD would speak to

Evaluating Pricing And Ensure Adherence Of A Company
As defined by Investopedia, LLC (2016) an initial public offering is the first sale of stock of a
company to the public. When a company makes the decision to move forward with an initial
public offering there are many roles that are involved and rules and regulations that must be
reviewed to ensure risks are evaluated and limited. A decision to go public can have immense
benefits in raising cash and providing liquidity. Having the proper roles evaluate pricing and ensure
adherence to rules and regulations can make an initial public offeringa positive step for companies.

The Investment Banker is a critical role in the Initial Public Offering as they manage the process
therefore choosing the Investment Banker can be the determination of performance levels.
The Role of an Originating House and a Syndicate An initial public offering of stock is an
expensive and complicated procedure. Firms considering this option turn to syndicates of
investment bankers to handle the initial sale of the firm s stock. In the case of a large initial
public offering, an originating investment house may decide to form a syndicate of investors to
lessen the financial risk to themselves. This syndicate, or group, of investors will share the reward
and risks of the sale of stock from the issuing firm. The originating house selects other investing
banks or individual investors to make up the syndicate. This syndicate will underwrite the sale of
the stocks, guaranteeing the issuing firm the sale of a mutually agreed upon number of stocks at an
agreed upon price per share. The syndicate now assumes the financial risk of selling the stocks to
the public. The issuing firm has a guarantee of raising the funds they need. The syndicate also
assumes the responsibility for completing and filing all necessary documents with the Securities
and Exchange Commission as well as providing any information required by an individual state or
international governmental agency.

ways in which he believes it should change. Jacoby s stance on the topic is that United States of
America should bring back flogging as an alternate to jailing felons. Jacoby never actually states
this view in a thesis, but it is implied through the evidence given and the general attitude of the

Puritans would often use flogging as a form of punishmentfor various different crimes as oppose to
other forms of punishment. He also notes that the Puritans would do other things such as branding

Newton s Three Laws of Motion
Newton s 3 Laws of Motion
One of the most influential and top contributors to the world of physics to me is Sir Isaac
Newton. Father of modern science, Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4th, 1643 in
Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth, United Kingdom and died on March 31st 1727, Kensington,
London, United Kingdom. He was an English physicist and mathematician who formulated three
laws of motion that help explain some of the very important principles of physics. Some of
Newton s laws could only be proved under certain conditions; but actual observation and trial
experiments assured the validity of his work. According to Isaac Newton s laws he tells us how
objects move by describing the relationship between force and motion.
The First Law of Isaac Newton s laws of motion states that an object at rest will stay at rest until
acted on by larger force. When the object is at rest it is called inertia. Objects in motion will stay
in motion until stopped by a larger force. What this simply means is that an object will not move
if an unbalanced force does not affect it. It also states that if the object begins to move, that the
object will continue to move in the same direction until a larger force stops the object. Example
if you were to put a dodge ball on a computer chair (roll able chair) and were to roll the chair the
dodge ball and the chair would be moving in the same direction. If you were to stop the chair, the

The two categories are gram positive and gram negative. The cell walls of gram positive bacteria
are composed of several layers of peptidoglycan; within these peptidoglycan sheets, lays the
teichoic acids. In comparison to the Gram positives, the Gram negatives possess a thin
peptidoglycan layer with a porous lipopolysaccharide outer membrane. To determine whether a
bacterium is gram negative or positive, microbiologists can stain them. The majority of bacteria
have no pigment. In the beginning of the process, they are almost all clear. If a bacterium is
stained with crystal violet, it will turn a dark purple color. Once the ethanol is added, the gram
positive bacterium will retain the purple color, due to its thicker peptidoglycan layer, which can
capture this dye in the teichoic acids. However, the Gram negative bacterium will ultimately lose
the color and in the end turn a pink hue, once the safranin is added. The makes the very porous
lipopolysaccharide layer in the Gram negative bacterium, even more porous, causing it to lose the
purple color. (Madigan et al, 25 27). The Sulfur Indole Motility (SIM) is used to test for sulfur
reduction, motility, and indole production. The casein and animal tissue that SIM has, functions as
the amino acids, wheras the thiosulfate that acts as the iron and sulfur component. When the

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis By Edward O Wilson
The two passages by Edward O. Wilson from the book The Future of Life revolve around the issue
of environmentalism. Each passage utilizes satire to show the views of the opposing side. Wilson s
use of satire illustrates the unproductive nature of the discussions between the two sides. In the first
passage, The People First Critic Stereotypes the Environmentalists, the environmentalists are
portrayed negatively by the people first critics. Wilson uses diction and hyperbole to prove the
point of the people first critics. Diction plays a large part in the structure of the passage. Wilson
uses words such as environmental wackos and extremists to describe the environmentalists. This
diction is aimed to discourage readers from siding with the environmentalists. Hyperbole is utilized
at the end of the passage through an example of environmentalism. Wilson states, Some

less resources to use. The use of each rhetorical strategy strengthens the satire Wilson uses in the

1-2 Dibenzoylethylene Lab Report
The purpose of this lab was to carry out a trans to cis photochemical isomerization of 1 2,
dibenzoylethylene. The percent yield was used to calculate the accuracy of our trans to cis
conversion, which we obtained to be 3.4 % because our cis solution got contaminated, which
effected our actual yield of our product. This error was the result of not properly collecting the
yellow needless and not having enough solution to put in our test tubes which resulted in us not
having enough product for the photochemical isomerization for 1 2, Cis dibenzoylethylene. The
theoretical yield of our trans was 0.025g C16H12O2 because we had inaccurately measured our

Teachers Options Essay
Teachers Options
There are many options open to teachers of deaf children in a variety of situations. In teaching
deaf and hard of hearing children there is such a wide range of children, each with their own
abilities. Each child also has a different family situation to take into account. Some children come
from deaf families, some they are the only deaf family member, and some have no support from
their families because they are deaf. There are also students that have family members that make an
effort to learn how to best communicate with them, while some do only what they must to

Teaching with Sign Language
The most common educational teaching method for the deaf is to use a combination of both
American Sign Language (ASL) and English in the classroom. The signing of the English
language is called Pidgen Sign Language (PSL) or Signed Exact English (SEE). ASL is the
accepted language of the deaf in America and the preferred method of communication for the
majority of the deaf culture. It is a language of concepts instead of actual forming of sentences
and has no relation to English. ASL has a topic comment syntax, while English uses subject
object verb (Nakamura, 2002). In this format, they are able to understand each other best, but
this can also cause problems for education. The downside to ASL is that there is no use of
sentence structure, so this is where a combination of ASL with English comes in the education
picture. This system of bilingual teaching (Mason, 1995) with ASL and SEE teaches the children
English, the language of the United States, but by using many of the signs of ASL. The students
are taught with the signs and concepts of ASL but in areas like reading and writing, SEE and the
grammar rules of English are learned and applied. Some teachers, when in a classroom like this,
also use some aspect of voice along with ASL and SEE because many students have hearing aids or

Understanding Cultural Differences in the Workplace Essay
Understanding Cultural Differences in the Work Place
Spring Session B
Professor Davis
5/6/2012
Chamberlain College Of Nursing
The importance of understanding cultural, ethnic and gender differences by managers and
professionals in a business setting is essential to make the work environment comfortable. In every
culture there are basic standards of thinking, and acting and these cultural differences strongly
influence workplace values and communication. What may be considered acceptable and natural
in the workplace for one person may be unacceptable for another person. People from diverse
cultures bring new ways of thinking, creativity and language skills needed to survive in today s
work force. In many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When there is a commonality the gap in the bridge can be closed.
Having a commonality will allow the gap in cultural, gender and ethnical differences to merge
together. Example, there is an older lady that work with me who is very quiet and she is from
Africa. Several coworkers whisper about her, stating she s evil, she s scary, and she s a witch . I
started talking to this lady and I enjoyed our conversation. This woman has so much wisdom that
I felt like a little child sitting at the feet of my Parents. This woman stated I know what people
are saying about me and told me she s not a witch and that she doesn t get involved in other
people business and that she sit and observe quietly and pray when she s not working. This
woman is now known as the go to person if you need prayer. Because of this woman being
different from what was considered normal she was labeled. According to the lecture for this
week, The challenge for us is to find ways to bridge the gap between groups. To do so, we have to
develop certain skills and abilities. The first is to examine our own views of others, be they part
of the minority or the majority group, a different social class, or a different gender. (Bell, 2007).
As a manager one would have to examine their views and cultural biases before trying to
implement cultural literacy to their employees. Once managers and professionals become culturally
literate then the cultural bridges at work can be formed. This can happen by

How Does Shakespeare Present The Theme Of Isolation
heme of Isolation through their use of form, structure and language and show how The Outsider has
illuminated this.
Julian Barnes postmodern, Booker prize award winning novel The Sense of an Ending (2011),
William Shakespeare s Sonnets (1609) and Albert Camus The Outsider(1942) all present the central
theme of the isolation that, given circumstance, any individual can be subjected to. Barnes presents
this theme of isolation through the retrospective voice of Barnes first person narrator Tony Webster,
who by the conclusion of the novel has managed to agitate and isolate himself from those who he
once knew well. Similarly, Shakespeare s sonnet series demonstrates a gripping narrative of a love
triangle; an intimate tale of the fair youth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When she ends up ends up copulating with Tony soon after their breakup, she may have meant
for it to be one last attempt to express her love for Tony, but Tony interpreted this action as some
form of manipulation from Veronica. The ambiguousness of the pronoun it connotes that there
could be more that there be more for Barnes creation, Tony Webster, to get than the concluding
part of the novel. Perhaps Tony fails to comprehend the increased social status of women in
2011. It could be argued that Tony has become accustomed to the idea of the 1960s woman,
which is suggested by his brief affair with Annie which reflects the sexual revolution of the
1960s in which women were seen as sexual objects rather than the independent gender which
they are today. The dwelling of his past, of the 60s, has led to the deterioration of his
relationships with the other women in the novel as in 2011 women have gained much more
independence since the 1960s. Margaret, the woman who Tony married, stood by his side at first
but abruptly left him on his own now after she noted his obsession for Adrian. This could explain
why the latter part of the novel focuses on the aftermath of Adrian s suicide, an event which
occurred when Tony was in his 20s as Tony s obsession

Undergrad Personal Statement
When I entered college, I had little idea of what I wanted to study. Eventually, I found two
majors that have been most fulfilling, Russian and International Studies. These majors have
also led me to areas of public service I never before considered. While I knew about positions in
the Defense Department and in intelligence, I quickly learned that my foreign language abilities
were valuable outside these capacities. Although I have an interest in working internationally, I
recognize there are many ways to serve meaningfully in the United States. As an undergrad, I
worked part time in warehouse off campus. While I value my education and all of the
opportunities it has provided me, this was one of the most educational experiences I have had.
Working with men who were supporting families on a meager wage was truly eye opening to me
and made me question many of my preconceived notions. One man s well water quality was so
poor that he brought empty milk jugs to fill and take home to his family. Other coworkers
recounted their experiences as children, living in poor neighborhoods and on government
assistance. These accounts illustrated how much work there is to be done in the United States and
how government programs do not always reach those who need... Show more content on

The Role Of Logistics Air Force ( Usaf ) Operations And By...
I. INTRODUCTION
Background The role of logistics in United States Air Force (USAF) operations and by extension
United States military operations cannot be underestimated nor undervalued. People of both
professional and academic backgrounds have spent considerable time studying and capturing the
relevant points of its application. While critical to almost all military units and corporations alike,
logistics in definition and application is not easily defined. It is an over arching word covering
many disparate topics such as supply, sustainment, production, transportation, warehousing,
maintenance, planning, and others.
The USAF implements logistics at the tactical, operational and strategic levels with the Air Force
Materiel Command (AFMC) being its largest logistics focused organization. AFMC is home to
strategic organizations such as the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) and the Air Force Life
Cycle Management Center. Organizations such as the 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing
(SCOW), logistics readiness squadrons and aerial port squadrons implement logistics at the USAF
operational and tactical level. AFMC and the agencies it commands are the USAF s primary
interfaces for both internal and external logistics support; it interfaces with suppliers such as the
Defense Logistics Agency and General Services Administration and vendors like Boeing, Lockheed
Martin, and Kovach Mobile Equipment.
The USAF employs a significant number of Airmen, civilian, and

Blood borne viral infections can be very dangerous, even deadly, if contacted. One of these viral
infections is known as hepatitis. Hepatitis, or simply hep, is a disease caused by the inflation of
the liver due to the infection of a virus. Today s medical technology has helped us identify five
different types of hepatitis, though there may be more. The most common types are Hepatitis A,
B, and C. Hepatitis A is both the least common and the least dangerous of these three forms. In
fact, most people fully recover and won t have any permanent damage, and it is rarely fatal. It is
spread through sexual contact or the ingestion of fecal matter, which may seem rare; however, even
microscopic amounts can cause the disease. The symptoms include

Leading Change
Book Review
Leading Change by John Kotter 1996
Review by Chris Shea
John P. Kotter is internationally known and widely regarded as the foremost speaker on the topics
of leadership and change. He is the premier voice on how the best organizations actually achieve
successful transformations. The Konosuke Matsushita Professor of Leadership, Emeritus at the
Harvard Business School and a graduate of MIT and Harvard, Kotter s vast experience and
knowledge on successful change and leadership have been proven time and time again. The book
Leading Change looks at an eight stage process for implementing successful transformations in
today s firms as well as the eight errors that are common to change efforts. The ideas and methods

To avoid these hazards and capitalize on the opportunities the companies of today need to become
stronger competitors. To become the 21st century organization that will succeed some of the
transformations needed include reengineering, restructuring, quality programs, mergers and
acquisitions and strategic and cultural change. Useful change is often associated with a multi step
process that creates power and motivation significant enough to overwhelm all the sources of inertia
and driven by high quality leadership and not just management. Kotter states that the eight steps
required to produce successful change are; (1) Establishing a sense of urgency; (2)Creating the
guiding coalition; (3) Developing a vision and strategy; (4) Communicating the change vision; (5)
Empowering broad based action; (6) Generating short term wins; (7) Consolidating gains and
producing more change; (8) Anchoring new approaches in the culture. Kotter goes on to suggest
the first four steps in the process serve to defrost a hardened status quo, steps five to seven
introduce new practices and the last phase grounds the change in the corporate culture. It s
important to go through all of the steps in sequence however normally one operates in multiple
phases at once. To skip a step or get to far ahead without the establishment of a solid base will
almost always lead to problems. There are

The Role Of Sexuality In The Happy Prince And The...
Oscar Wilde s fairy tales have been embedded in the educational system for more than one
century and a lot of children enjoyed the rich imagery that is provided in his fairy tales. Even
though some critics argue that his tales were not meant for the younger audience, Wilde himself
said that the tales were written for both children, and a certain class of adults as well (Duffy,
2001). However, his works can lead a reader to the understanding of his life and his views about
particular topics including morality, aesthetics and sexuality. In this essay, the main focus will be
on his portrayal of different kinds of sexual relationships in two fairy tales The Happy Prince and
The Nightingale and The Rose . After the analysis of these stories one... Show more content on

The Prince as an older male dialogically teaches the little Swallow to care for misery, and the
Swallow consoles the Prince with tales of Africa and the East (Wood 2002, 165). At the
beginning of the story the bird is arrogant and selfish character that decides to rest on the statue
just because it was made of the most precious metal. He is excited to have a golden bedroom ,
and shows disappointment when he realized that the statue is not a solid gold (Small 2003).
Later in the story, [t]he swallow archives selfless transformation not from moral perspective, but
out of love and admiration for the Prince (Dalarna 2007, 15). With his older lover he archives a
self knowledge, and learns that the true love is worth dying for. However, Wilde himself on one
of his trials said that [Love that doesn t dare to speak its name] is intellectual, and it exists
between an elder and a younger man, when the elder has intellect, and the younger has all the joy,
hope, and glamour of life before him. (Hyde 1975, 292) This quote contributes to the previously
made argument that Oscar Wilde introduces pederasty as a pure educational or intellectual

Are People Naturally Good Or Evil Research
A straightforward question. Are humans naturally good or evil? A simple question that has many
of different answers and a question that may require deep thinking. For me, both sides I was
drawn to. My household is christian, so I thought of the religious answer, but I also thought that
people are born good and their environment and decisions can cause them to be evil. This is what
I came up with. When I thought of this question the first thing that popped up in my head is
babies , so I did a little research. Babies are humans with the absolute minimum of cultural
influence (bbc.com). They don t have a lot of friends, and they don t go to school or read any
books. Their minds are as innocent as any obtain. Yale university did an experiment

Lab Report Diffusion
In our first unit of honors chemistry, we learned many different concepts through the application
or the completing of experiments. This way we were able to witness different things and create
our own conclusions about our three different labs. After each lab, we critical thought about what
we observed and what these observations meant. In this way, we were truly able to learn and
understand the purposes of the labs and other concepts that were expressed in each lab. Some of
the concepts that we learned included the difference between an observation and an inference, what
does diffusion do, what is the difference between a physical change and a chemical change, and
how does energy affect a reaction. These many different concepts came up many... Show more

A chemical change is an irreversible reaction that involves the changing of the substances
chemical properties and results in the creation of a new substance. A physical change is a
change that affects the physical aspects or form of the substance, but not tis chemical
properties. This type of reaction can be reversed and a completely new substance is not formed.
So, to know if a chemical change has taken place the many thing to look for is if a new substance
is created from the reaction. Experiments can be tested to make sure that no form of a chemical
change has taken place if a person is unsure about whether a reaction is physical or chemical.
One way that a person could test to make sure the reaction was not a chemical one is to simply
see if a product has been produced. If there was a substance created from the reactants coming in
contact with each other, then the change was a chemical one. Then, if you are unsure of if a
product was created, then you could view the molecules of the reactants under an electron
microscope to see if they changed from their original form and their chemical properties. Finally,
if you are still completely unsure of if the reaction was chemical, then you could go through a
series of ways that may undo the reaction because if the change can be reversed then it is a
physical change. So, when applying these ways that can confirm that there is no

The Setting In The Most Dangerous Game
A man falls overboard and is lost at sea. He washes up on a strange island with no means of
escape and no possible way of contacting anyone to rescue him. He is trapped on the island. This
is one way the setting of The Most Dangerous Game enhances the plot by adding suspense, action
and mystifying image in the readers of the setting and adding an atmosphere of mystery.
The first area that the setting enhances the plot is in the feeling of suspense in the story. If the
story hadn t taken in a place with thick forest, a large swamp, and most of all being on an island,
this story wouldn t have as interesting or suspenseful as it is. Since the setting is on an island
with only Rainsford and Zaroff, this gives a feeling of being trapped. As there is no escape but if
the story was on the mainland there would be a much easier means of escape. The forest also
adds greatly to the plot, as without the forest Rainsford could not have hid as well as he did, set
many traps to help even odds, and beat the Zaroff at his own game and ambush him in his own
home. Without these key setting pieces, The Most Dangerous Game would have been a much duller
story.

Dangerous Game a constant page turner. Right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the setting hadn t been on the ocean in the beginning, it would have been impossible for
Rainsford to have ever fallen overboard and wash up on Zaroff s island. If Rainsford had never
washed up on the island, there never would have been a hunt and the event that happen during the
hunt. Without the setting being a thick overgrown jungle, Rainsford would have never been able
to survive for as long as he did. The jungle setting allowed Rainsford to make liberal use of traps
and false trails to trick Zaroff and buy himself time.

The Women s Liberation Movement
Beginning in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century women began to vocalize their
opinions and desires for the right to vote. The Women s Suffrage movement paved the way to the
nineteenth Amendment in the United States Constitution that allowed women that right. The
Women s Suffrage movement started a movement for equal rights for women that has continued to
propel equal opportunities for women throughout the country. The Women s Liberation Movement
has sparked better opportunities, demanded respect and pioneered the path for women entering in
the workforce that was started by the right to vote and given momentum in the late 1950s. The
focus of The Women s Liberation Movement was idealized off The Civil Rights Movement; it...

In America the Women s Liberation movement has been embraced by how women are valued
for more than baring children, but we often do not consider the ramifications the transition has
had on our society. Feminist Marlene Dixon has said that although women have done wonderful
work in ending oppression for themselves, oppression still exist, only in psychological sense of
the word. Dixon writes, Individualized struggles between men and women around the
oppressive attitudes and objective sexual and social privileges is the consequence of the
psychological oppression that is taking place in the minds of women, and men, who are being
hyper sexualized in the need for attention. Taking into consideration the amount of emphasis is
placed on a woman s sex appeal Dixons ideas cannot be disregarded. With women increasing
their assets in the work force and decreasing a mans need in relationships, women are marketing
their bodies to prove that they are still can be desirable and relying on the opposite sex. By
allowing ourselves to be used as sexual properties in advertising it is giving men and other women
the notion that women are only desirable if they can be physically attracted to the masses. As
feminist, and women these sexual barriers need to be brought down to emphasize that

War and Death in the Twentieth Century
The twentieth century was dominated by war and death. From the turn of the century, major
powers fought against one another trying to fight against those that oppressed them and others
fighting to keep oppressors from oppressing the people. World War I, World War II, and the Cold
War were wars that dominated this century, though there were many other, smaller, battles that
took place throughout these years. Powerful regimes that had been around for hundreds of years
came crashing down with new nations rising up in their place, dozens of peace treaties were
signed to appease those that had fought, and new political powers rose up and the rights of the
people began to change. War drastically changed the outcome of the twentieth century with the
beginning of the century care free but, at the end, many ideas and views of how life should be
were shattered and war would leave a bitter memory for many. The beginning of the twentieth
century started on a high note. Most countries were pleased with how their governments were being
controlled and most of the people within those countries were happy. However, this did not mean
that everyone, or country, was happy. With the beginning and ending of World War I
, the ideas that
many Europeans had supported...that man is always progressing...that life is always improving,
were shattered. Gone were the dreams of a prosperous life, that life was good, and that wars were
quick little squabble between countries with

  • 4. Amontillado Montresor Revenge In the small hours of a cold December night, in 1916, Rasputin was driven to the palace of the Czar s cousin Prince Yusupov; for what he thought was a secret tryst with a beautiful woman. Together, the Prince and Rasputin descended the steps to the basement of the palace. It had been specially converted into a small dining room, a private place to attempt to murder. While the Prince s co conspirators waited upstairs, Yusupov passed a plate of rich sweet cream cakes to Rasputin. Each cake held enough cyanide to kill a man. To guarantee success, the wine was also laced with cyanide. The plan seemed foolproof. Though Rasputin ate the cream cakes and became rather drunk from the wine, the poison seems to have no effect. Stunned, the conspirators... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A piece of dramatic irony that we are given is that we know Fortunato is going to be killed, unfortunately Fortunato does not know this. Fortunato s name is even ironic. Fortunato means the fortunate one in Italian. (Campbell) In the story it is clear he wasn t so fortunate. Fortunato adds to the irony of his name by wearing the costume of a court jester. While Fortunato plays in jest, Montresor sets out to fool him, with murderous results. The bells on Fortunato s jester costume plays with the irony of the story. Roger Platizky writes, To a significant degree, Poe s fear of live burial had a cultural counterpart. Kennedy and others have shown that premature burial was a preoccupation in eighteenth and nineteenth century America and Europe largely because death was more often in the hands of the medical community and funerals had become secularized.(n2) In an attempt to keep living entombments from occurring, coffins and vaults especially for the wealthier classes were equipped with special springs and sounding devices to give the person mistakenly buried alive a chance to be rescued (Crichton 326 28). One of the most pragmatic of these devices, which involved the placing of bells on the limbs of the recently dead, was exhibited at Brooklyn s Greenwood Cemetery in 1845, just a year before Poe published his short story. Mr. Eisenbrandt s life preserving coffin boasted a death defying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Greatest Philosophers Of History How can one truly expect to speculate through wild and whirling words the overwhelming complexity that is human nature? It is undoubtedly one of the more daunting tasks that one can choose to take on, and yet it is far from unprecedented. As human beings, we are fascinated by our own thoughts and tendencies, and the manner in which we conduct ourselves during our short time on earth. It is a topic that has never ceased to fascinate us, for as many aspects of it that remain unchanging throughout the centuries, there are just as many that seem incapable of remaining consistent. Some of the greatest philosophers of history dedicated their lives to this enigma of humanity, and through their minds and words have seen that humannature is a product of both nature itself and the imperative nurturing of other human beings; and that while it may be one of the most complicated notions we will ever face, there are innate truths that cannot be contravened. Perhaps one of the most influential discussions of humanity to have ever taken place was that of Plato s city, a hypothetical place of dwelling meant to be a philosophical speculation of the mannerisms of human beings as Plato and his fellows saw them to be. As a great philosopher, Plato knew that human beings are naturally social beings, and need companionship like their bodies need food and water. • 6. Zora Neale Hurston Sweat Essay With respect to Zora Neal Hurston s short story Sweat, the reader is introduced to the hidden meanings within the text. Instinctively, the reader would define the meaning of sweat as moisture leaving the body after one overexerts themselves. However, the elements in this story generates so much more meaning to the word sweat than the reader may think. Sweat signifies perseverance and courage and these traits becomes more evident as the reader embarks into the story. For example, perseverance is a key attribute that Delia possesses. The reader soon discovers that Delia makes a living by washing clothes for the community. However, her husband Sykes does not contribute to their income in any way, is unfaithful, and beats her. The author of this story, Zora Neal Hurston, shows how Delia expresses her frustration towards Sykes and surprisingly, this may have been the first time Delia has stood up to him. Political theorist George Kateb, analyzes the strength and endurance that comes from war. Why does war s exhilaration call forth spontaneous courage (Kateb 18). This question is very important to the text because Delia just snaps. She has had enough and won t stand for it anymore. There comes a point in everyone s lives where individuals reach that breaking point and find that spontaneous courage within themselves just like Delia did. Similarly, the words and phrases that the author uses throughout this story seem to carry spontaneous courage. Triumphant indifference, spiritual earthworks, and pretty pass are a few examples. These words create a visual for the reader, and the individual is able to ponder these phrases and inevitably, find those hidden meanings and key elements to the story. One of the key elements of Sweat is when a rattlesnake is brought to her home by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. U.s. Foreign Policy History The course of U.S. foreign policy history can be understood through watersheds, or critical points. These points can serve as dividing lines that illuminate shifts in policy and opinion. However, thinking of this history in terms of critical moments or turning points can simplify the complex actors, sentiments and tendencies that create and influence foreign policy. These critical points are not necessarily the sole cause of massive shifts in policy, but often add impetus to pre existing tendencies. Nonetheless, watersheds can help the public digest patterns in foreign policy, playing an important role in how American s perceive their role in the world. According to Brzezinski, America s relationship with the world has been characterized by cycles of extroversion and introversion , or involvement and isolationism. Throughout the nation s history, Americans have witnessed and influenced many shifts or turns in this cycle, caused, exacerbated or illuminated by several critical events. Through this lens, the Spanish American War, Pearl Harbor, the Vietnam War and 9/11 are critical points that added the impetus to shift the cycle of U.S. foreign policy in the other direction. The Spanish American war paved the way for American Imperialism, illuminating a shift towards interventionist policies. Emerging from post WWI isolationism, the attack on Pearl Harbor created an immediate national consensus, realigning foreign policy towards international involvement and ... That s the only explanation I know, is one of his best known quotes. With all odds against him, Ray s driving force in life was music, and who better to sing the song America the Beautiful other than one of the biggest music legends. He reinvented a piece of literature that described America to a T. He added soul and sound to an old poem and breathed in new life for generations to experience. With a story like his, there is not much of anything else that would be considered more american to myself. He was a hardworking man, who persevered when most would have given up, and he believed in his country; he loved America. Ray Charles, out of all people, had every right to see no need in believing in such beauty in the world and caring for his country as he did, but he did. And because of this, we have one of the most American songs that has ever been written, if not the most. The first milestone is when the technological feasibility, whether the software can be produced to meet its design specification, is established, and the second milestone is when the software product is available for general release to customers. All developmental costs incurred should be expensed before meeting the first milestone, capitalized between the first milestone and the second, and amortized when second milestone is reached. Microsoft argues that the time between the two milestones is usually too short for the company to capitalize on any significant amount of costs, therefore Microsoft s policy is to expense all research and development costs as they incur regardless of whether the milestones are reached or not. As a result, Microsoft has relatively consistent annual expenses during its software development process compared to companies that capitalize on costs after technological feasibility is established. After the development process is finished, Microsoft s software will start to generate revenue but will not appear on the company s balance sheet because no costs were capitalized. To illustrate the impact of Microsoft s cost capitalization policy, consider a specific software that takes three years to develop, its technological feasibility is established at the end of year two, and the developed software will be on the market for two years. Due to most aspects of our lives being governed by the process of competition, and the demand for illicit goods being consistently high, it is my contention that extra legal institutions do present an efficient solution to the problems faced by self enforced exchanges. Beyond the technical and structural barriers lie ideological and cultural impediments that I will argue are borne in part from an idealized quest for modernity informed by free market capitalism and neoliberal ideology. I will argue that this has created deep cultural and societal rifts that have been exploited by vested economic interests through discursive and political campaigns that seek to delegitimize the right of Mumbai s citizens to water, and by extension life. • 32. Newton s Three Laws of Motion Newton s 3 Laws of Motion One of the most influential and top contributors to the world of physics to me is Sir Isaac Newton. Father of modern science, Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4th, 1643 in Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth, United Kingdom and died on March 31st 1727, Kensington, London, United Kingdom. He was an English physicist and mathematician who formulated three laws of motion that help explain some of the very important principles of physics. Some of Newton s laws could only be proved under certain conditions; but actual observation and trial experiments assured the validity of his work. According to Isaac Newton s laws he tells us how objects move by describing the relationship between force and motion. The First Law of Isaac Newton s laws of motion states that an object at rest will stay at rest until acted on by larger force. When the object is at rest it is called inertia. Objects in motion will stay in motion until stopped by a larger force. What this simply means is that an object will not move if an unbalanced force does not affect it. It also states that if the object begins to move, that the object will continue to move in the same direction until a larger force stops the object. The cell walls of gram positive bacteria are composed of several layers of peptidoglycan; within these peptidoglycan sheets, lays the teichoic acids. In comparison to the Gram positives, the Gram negatives possess a thin peptidoglycan layer with a porous lipopolysaccharide outer membrane. To determine whether a bacterium is gram negative or positive, microbiologists can stain them. The majority of bacteria have no pigment. In the beginning of the process, they are almost all clear. If a bacterium is stained with crystal violet, it will turn a dark purple color. Once the ethanol is added, the gram positive bacterium will retain the purple color, due to its thicker peptidoglycan layer, which can capture this dye in the teichoic acids. However, the Gram negative bacterium will ultimately lose the color and in the end turn a pink hue, once the safranin is added. The makes the very porous lipopolysaccharide layer in the Gram negative bacterium, even more porous, causing it to lose the purple color. (Madigan et al, 25 27). • 35. How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis By Edward O Wilson The two passages by Edward O. Wilson from the book The Future of Life revolve around the issue of environmentalism. Each passage utilizes satire to show the views of the opposing side. Wilson s use of satire illustrates the unproductive nature of the discussions between the two sides. In the first passage, The People First Critic Stereotypes the Environmentalists, the environmentalists are portrayed negatively by the people first critics. Wilson uses diction and hyperbole to prove the point of the people first critics. Diction plays a large part in the structure of the passage. Wilson uses words such as environmental wackos and extremists to describe the environmentalists. This diction is aimed to discourage readers from siding with the environmentalists. Hyperbole is utilized at the end of the passage through an example of environmentalism. The percent yield was used to calculate the accuracy of our trans to cis conversion, which we obtained to be 3.4 % because our cis solution got contaminated, which effected our actual yield of our product. This error was the result of not properly collecting the yellow needless and not having enough solution to put in our test tubes which resulted in us not having enough product for the photochemical isomerization for 1 2, Cis dibenzoylethylene. The theoretical yield of our trans was 0.025g C16H12O2 because we had inaccurately measured our recrystallized trans 1 2 dibenzoylethylene. Teaching with Sign Language The most common educational teaching method for the deaf is to use a combination of both American Sign Language (ASL) and English in the classroom. The signing of the English language is called Pidgen Sign Language (PSL) or Signed Exact English (SEE). ASL is the accepted language of the deaf in America and the preferred method of communication for the majority of the deaf culture. It is a language of concepts instead of actual forming of sentences and has no relation to English. ASL has a topic comment syntax, while English uses subject object verb (Nakamura, 2002). In this format, they are able to understand each other best, but this can also cause problems for education. The downside to ASL is that there is no use of sentence structure, so this is where a combination of ASL with English comes in the education picture. Perhaps Tony fails to comprehend the increased social status of women in 2011. Useful change is often associated with a multi step process that creates power and motivation significant enough to overwhelm all the sources of inertia and driven by high quality leadership and not just management. Kotter states that the eight steps required to produce successful change are; (1) Establishing a sense of urgency; (2)Creating the guiding coalition; (3) Developing a vision and strategy; (4) Communicating the change vision; (5) Empowering broad based action; (6) Generating short term wins; (7) Consolidating gains and producing more change; (8) Anchoring new approaches in the culture. It s important to go through all of the steps in sequence however normally one operates in multiple phases at once. A physical change is a change that affects the physical aspects or form of the substance, but not tis chemical properties. So, to know if a chemical change has taken place the many thing to look for is if a new substance is created from the reaction. Experiments can be tested to make sure that no form of a chemical change has taken place if a person is unsure about whether a reaction is physical or chemical. One way that a person could test to make sure the reaction was not a chemical one is to simply see if a product has been produced. If there was a substance created from the reactants coming in contact with each other, then the change was a chemical one. The first area that the setting enhances the plot is in the feeling of suspense in the story.
