Gonzo Journalism Essay
Gonzo Journalism is Not Dead The excess use of guns, booze, and too many drugs to count easily
sums up the life and writing of Hunter S. Thompson. During the 1970s, American literature and
journalism changed in a way that no one would have ever been able to predict. The years following
turned the table and effected generations to come in a new writing style that many authors and
journalist now adopt. The life and writing of Hunter S. Thompson had great influence on the creation
of gonzo journalism, politics, and American culture. Even after forty years, Hunter S. Thompson s
creation of gonzo journalism became a new style of writing that remains imitated. Gonzo journalism
has many different characteristics; one of the most predominant is ... Show more content on

Thompson believed that every individual, know matter how weird, had a say in politics and possessed
power to influence elections with just one vote. These views in the 1970s gave way too many views
easily expressed today like when MTV began Rock the Vote , encouraging young voters to stand up
and let their voices heard as well letting them know their voice mattered. Thompson s life style played
a pivotal role in many avenues of American pop culture such as art, movies, and creating a cult
following that is still strong today. Most illustrations of Thompson s work came from the artist Ralph
Steadman who became a famous artist, and won many awards in his life. From Steadman s popularity,
he continued to illustrate many books such as Alice in Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451, and Animal Farm.
(Graham) There were three movies made from Thompson s writings to include Fear and Loathing in
Las Vegas, Rum Diaries, and Where the Buffalo Roam staring Actors such as Johnny Depp, Benicio
Del Toro, and Bill Murray. Gonzo journalism and other writings from Thompson created a cult
following that influenced journalist, writers, actors, musicians, and even teenagers who looked to him
for a voice. Many of Thompson s followers go as far as to get his iconic gonzo fist symbol tattooed on
them to show their support. Thompson s influence remains strong in America with its reach expanding
to all avenues of pop culture, views of modern may

The response to each carbohydrate was quantified when the respective carbohydrate was given alone
in a drink or when given in combination with protein and fat in a test meal. The data demonstrate that
(1) fructose ingestion resulted in significantly lower serum glucose and insulin responses than did
sucrose or dextrose ingestion in all study groups, either when given alone or in the test meal; (2)
although fructose ingestion always led to the least glycemic response compared with the other
hexoses, the serum glucose response to fructose was increased the more glucose intolerant the subject;
(3) urinary glucose excretion during the 3 h after carbohydrate ingestion was greatest after dextrose
and least after fructose in all groups. In conclusion, fructose ingestion results in markedly lower serum
glucose and insulin responses and less glycosuria than either dextrose or sucrose, both when given
alone or as a constituent in a test

Successful Marketing Requires Identifying, Analysing, And...
Successful marketing requires identifying, analysing, and understanding individuals of a target
market, and then catering to them through specialized advertising and promotion methods. Fayemelle
s target audience are people aspiring to live a healthier lifestyle, without depriving themselves of
delicious indulgences such as cupcakes. These people are very health cautious, however, they are not
afraid to have cheat days, or find ways to make the foods they love more healthy and enjoyable. While
health cautious people may be a broad choice for a target audience, it is also a market that can easily
be segmented for more effective marketing efforts. For example, while as a company, Fayemelle s
would prefer to profit from all demographics groups, they have have chosen one group that it feels
will benefit most from the services offered through Fayemelle s products. The ideal age for an
individual Fayemelle s markets towards is around 25 50 years old, as this age group is typically more
concerned with the condition of their health as they age. In addition, one is able to stretch the criteria
of a health cautious even more by establishing the types of foods they like to eat. Common choices are
fat free, organic, gluten free, or low carbs. Fayemelle s is able to incorporate the needs and wants of
this demographic through its Ditch the Sweets Cupcakes. In addition to the cupcakes low sugar,

Ecology And Plant Ecology
In this article examples are going to be discussed of the application of molecular biology in the field
of plant ecology, what molecular biology is as well as what plant ecology is. Plant ecology is one of
the branches in the scientific field of ecology that mainly focus on plant population and their
surroundings (McMahon, 2016). Plant ecologists also look at other factors that have an impact on the
plants and their environment. According to the MIT Department of Biology, plant molecular biology is
the study where biological data such as plants genetics, genomes, biochemical and the cell biologics is
inserted into computers to understand the development, growth and physiology of plants at a
molecular level. The examples that is going to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers do not just look at the plant but keeps in mind how the plants interact with each other and
their environment. A Plant ecologist do not just look at plants but also the soil conditions, animals and
other influences that might have an impact on the plants environment. According to McMahon (2016)
plant ecology is not just a plant itself but, is everything from understanding the plants environment
functions as well as the interaction of humans with the natural environment. The area most focused on
in plant ecology is topics like climate change, plant diseases and the symbiotic relationship between
plant species and how plants spread in nature (McMahon, 2016). Plant ecology involves a lot of field
work because the plant needs to be viewed in their natural habitat to understand why the plant looks
like it does. Plant ecology covers a wide range of research for instance the study of plants growing in a
specific ecosystem for example the rainforest, or a specific area that is of interest, like a population of
plants that is growing next to a polluted river or dam. It can also help researchers to study endangered
ecosystems and plant populations including not vascular plants like mosses. Plants make up a very
large part of the natural environment. Plants do not just provide people and animals with food but also
with shelter for animals, prevents erosion and the most important part is that plants provide us with
oxygen (McMahon,

The Origins Of Yoga And The Second School Being Hatha Yoga
In 1893, a man by the name of Vivekananda came to speak at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago.
He captivated his audience with the exotic Indian practice of Yoga. His message permeated throughout
the United States while capturing the minds of brilliant Americans such as Gertrude Stein.
Vivekananda as well as the Doctrine of Yoga were a sensation, but what has become of the mystical
practice known as yoga. In this paper I will discuss the origins of yoga in the West, various schools of
thought associated with yoga and with a focus on two in particular: the first being Raja yoga (royal
yoga) and the second school being Hatha yoga. Dr. John Renard illustrates the relation between these
to schools concisely and effectively in The Handy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The young monk made a profound impression on the people who attended the speech. His speech left
people spellbound and enchanted. He was able to simplify Vedanta thought in such way that it was
more digestible for westerners and more importantly he conveyed the idea that all souls were
inherently divine. His mantra was relatable to American, work and worship. Vivekananda became a
star overnight. He proceeded to tour the country to further the doctrine of yoga across the nation. Yet
the yoga we see across our country is very different from the yogic tradition Vivekananda was
teaching. In fact Vivekananda had an absolute lack of interest in the physical aspect of yoga we see
today in our society. His goal in America was to help Americans realize God. He was considered the
first missionary from the east to the west and it was his goal to help Americans rid themselves of this
American individualism. He wanted to rise above the western perception of the east being this exotic
and magical place and to deliver truth to people. He felt very strongly about his proselytization. He
was quoted saying, I have a message to the West as Buddha had a message to the East. That being said
Vivekananda was a man of this world. He had reportedly been seen smoking and eating meat, so this
man was far from perfect. Yet nevertheless this man had quite the following. In fact Leo Tolstoy was

programmed to raise its arm and move it up and down when someone else does, so it mimics your

human has the ability to process the knowledge or what you have said to him or her and have his own
opinion and bias towards the conversation or the activity that he or she is involved in, where as a robot
just performs the task that it is given and programmed to do, if you were to insult the machine in any
ways it would not talk back nor would it be hurt by your actions. Hondas robot just performs the tasks
that it is programmed to do such as walk on black circular lines. What I am getting at is a machine just
performs the tasks it is made to do with no regret bias or any feelings towards the function.

Alternative Minimum Tax
The alternative minimum tax (AMT) is an income tax levied by the federal government on
corporations and individuals. Congress enacted the AMT as an alternate form of income taxation to
ensure that taxpayers with substantial economic income cannot use exclusions, deductions, and credits
to avoid a significant part of their tax liability. Because corporations are allowed to reduce their
income tax liability, (sometimes to zero) with exclusions, deductions and credits; IRC Section 55
requires many corporations to add back some of these deductions and credits and pay tax on the
recalculated amount.
Corporation must calculate tax under both systems the AMT rules and the regular income tax to
determine its tentative minimum tax. If the tentative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To qualify the corporation average gross receipts must be less than $7.5 million for the three year
period ending before the taxable year for which the corporation is determining qualification.
Corporations are exempt during their first year of existence, regardless of its gross receipts.
The tax base for the corporate AMT is the alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI), it is broader
than the regular corporate income tax base. The AMTI is computed by adding tax preference and
adjustment items to regular taxable income. The most common tax preference item is interest from
private activity bonds. This preference item always increases a corporation s AMTI. Private activity
bonds are basically allowed to be issued as municipal bonds because projects conducted by private
corporations can serve the public need or improve the economy of a state or local municipality. For
example projects funded with private activity bonds include airport, docks, parking garages and
manufacturing plants.
Excluding interest on private activity bonds from the computation of AMT can greatly benefit state
and local government by encouraging the construction of manufacturing facilities, rebuilding
transportation infrastructure, and the creation of many

How successful can the management of fragile environments...
How successful can the management of fragile environments be, given the constant and increasing
demand for their exploitation?
A fragile environment is an area where the flora and fauna have adapted to a specific climate and
evolved to occupy many different niches due to extremely high competition for resources.
Furthermore due to the constant abiotic conditions, specialisation and symbiotic relationships have
occurred to such a degree that even the slightest ecological or environmental disruption cannot be
accommodated, meaning individual habitats and ecosystems can be easily destroyed. This
combination of specialisation and interdependence increases the overall fragility and vulnerability of
this biome

As most locals have no other viable alternative to generate income for their families. Furthermore
indigenous peoples often receive little education regarding global affairs and may not recognise the
need for conservation. In addition it is rare that a single fragile environment is endemic to one country,
as they often span over several territories. A good example is the Amazon rainforest which lies within
Brazil, holding 60% of the forest, Peru 13%, Columbia 10% and with Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia,
Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana also holding small amounts. This makes it difficult to establish
a uniform strategy across the whole are, and made harder still by low funds available for conservation
in many of these countries.
One of the more popular forms of conservation management is conservation reserves that protect
biodiversity and ensure its population lives sustainably with their environment. One example of such a
scheme is the Central Amazon Conservation complex in the Brazilian Amazon. Established in 2003, it
brings together four reserves in the Amazon; Jau National Park, Anavilhanas Ecological Station,
Mamiraua Reserve and Amana reserve, a total area of 49,000 km2. Sustainable development reserves

The Beatles
Katherine McGreevy
Creative Written Paper
In learning about The Beatles over the past few months, I have gained great appreciation for them as a
band. Particularly, I really enjoyed learning about and listening to the many love songs written by The
Beatles. It was a difficult task to choose just three songs to write about, however I chose the three
songs I enjoyed most. They are each love songs from a different era of The Beatles work throughout
their years. I Should Have Known Better , Michelle , and Dear Prudence have all left great
impressions on me. I Should Have Known Better was issued on the B side of A Hard Day s Night in
1964 (Wikipedia, 2016). It was composed by Lennon was released on July 13, 1964 as a single along
with A Hard Day s Night as the Soundtrack to the film also called A Hard Day s Night, which was
released on July 10, 1964 (Wikipedia, 2016). This song was one of many inspired by Bob Dylan as we
learned he left quite the impression on the Beatles, especially Lennon. This inspiration led Lennon to
write more meaningful lyrics (Benitez, 2016). It is easy to understand why this song was popular
reaching the top Billboard charts at number 53 as Lennon s harmonica playing skills are capturing
(Wikipedia, 2016). The song opens with Lennon playing the harmonica and it has a very upbeat, light
tune and melody. This song is the first song since I m a loser including the use of a harmonica

The Problem Of Drug Use
Drug use in America has been on the rise, drugs have been available for many years. The use of drugs
in communities not only affect the drug user but it also affects families across the United States. Drug
use has a way of making one dependent on a substance which can lead to many issues such as theft,
theft usually plays an important role in funding a drug users habit when they are not able to hold a job
or run out of money to sustain their unhealthy habit. Families are hurt by the user s ability to be
careless about their own situation and the situation of others that surround them, like children, parents

2006). In the past year, 23% of youth meet diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder by age 20
(Johnston LD, O Malley PM, Bachman JG, Schulenberg JE. 2006). This is huge when considering that
substance abuse can start at a young age and continue throughout life possibly leading to further issues
more crime related. As Chief of Police addressing the use and rehabilitation of drug users who live a
life of crime is difficult. Under the current policies, we are giving individuals longer sentences for
drug related crime and not addressing the issue of addiction. So, after users commit a crime they are
sentenced to jail or prison and once released they go back to the same patterns and environments that
fed their addiction so once again they continue to use and these individuals become our habitual
offenders. This current system is setting individuals up for failure and not assisting with giving them
the tools and knowledge to make changes in their behavior. Langan, (1994) explained that a review of
recidivism in 15 states found that one quarter of individuals released return to prison within 3 years for
technical violations that include, among other things, testing positive for drug use (Langan. PA. Levin
DJ., 1994). This goes to show that drugs and drug use needs to be addressed with strict guidance

Amish Cultural Values And Beliefs
The Amish are a secluded religious group with the majority living in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.
They avoid modernization and the typical American lifestyle. This writer is from Indiana and
remembers seeing a slow moving large black object early one morning moving across an interstate
overpass. It was beautiful and fascinating as the giant horse was solid black, the carriage was black
and the gentleman was wearing all black. The sun was just rising and it woke this writer up while
driving with heavy eyes. This paper seeks to explore Amish cultural values, beliefs, and attitudes in
order to provide culturally competent nursing health care. It is imperative for nurses to provide
culturally competent care because nurses serve as patient advocates. This role includes respecting the
rights and dignity of all patients. Nurses are not necessarily as culturally diverse as the populations
they serve, so it is important to learn about different cultures such as the Amish.

Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorders embrace a diversity of symptoms related to alterations in consciousness which
vary from amnesia regarding autobiographical events to distortions in identity and the experience of
reality (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th ed. [DSM V]; American

derealization and absorption has been studied by researchers in a systematic manner during the past

In the clinical literature it is very common the distinction between dissociative states and dissociative
traits (e.g. Bremmer, 2010; Bremmer Brett, 1997), whereas state dissociation is described as a
transient symptom and trait dissociation is described as an innate personality characteristic. The
prevalence of dissociative symptoms in both clinical and non clinical populations leads to the notion
that dissociation is a continuum (Bernstein Putnam, 1986) which extends from non pathological
manifestations of daydreaming to severe distortions of personality typical of dissociative disorders
(Giesbrecht Merckelbach, 2008; Holtgraves Stockdale, 1997; Irwin, 2001). The realm of dissociative
disorders encompasses dissociative identity disorder (e.g. experience of two or more identity entities
taking control of one s behavior), dissociative amnesia (e.g. inability to recall important
autobiographical information related to a traumatic event), depersonalization (e.g. experience of an
unreal or absent self) derealization (e.g. objects/individuals experienced as unreal) disorder (DMS V,

My New House Essay
As soon as I walked into the front doors of my new house I knew this wasn t my old house. It was like
walking into my grandma s house which was like a thousand years old. I definitely liked my old house
better. Speaking of my old house, it was like my dream house. It was like I was in my very own world
and I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted on that farmland back in Tennessee. Now this stinky
dump in Cleveland is nothing like our city in Tennessee. I walked up the old creaky stairs and at the
top to the right was my room. As soon as I walked into my room I could not say a word, it was the
ugliest room ever, but I knew I had to make it work. Oh I miss those days back at our farm in
Tennessee. At home I was always stressed because of school but at the farm it gave me something to
do and to take my mind off school. The farm was so fun I got to do whatever I wanted to do,like run
throw the corn mazes, take care of the chickens, make sure all the plants had water, play with the
gotes, ride horses, there was so many things to do at the farm that you could never get bored. My
favorite thing to do was plant different types of vegetables and fruit and watch the plants grow. I truly
missed the farm, and all I could think about was the farm and how much fun I had there and how I
lived there my whole childhood. The next morning I woke up to the sound of fire truck siren, I guess
in the city of Cleveland you will always hear them or anything loud at 6:00 in the morning. I truly
thought that this was the jumpiest and loudest city ever, well at least in this part of Cleveland. I stay in
my room the rest of the morning trying to figure out how to make my room feel like home. All of a
sudden I hear loud screaming from down stairs. We would have never had to move here if you re
stupid crops did not die my mom said. The move was really hard on my mom she loved ohio and
loved her job,but my mom and dad were not making much money. Then I heard louder screaming, It
is not just all my fault you could have got a better job, my dad says. Then I hear screaming even
louder how could you say that, you knew I loved my job! My mom said. The screaming went on for

A Comparison Of Genesis And Genesis
Many stories and fables have been written and passed down from generation to generation about the
great flood recorded in Genesis. However, critics can reason all they want because God created the
world, and the creation is not a debatable topic. The Genesis account of the flood came first; therefore,
Gilgamesh, Ovid s Metamorphoses, and The Korans accounts of the flood are all inspired by Genesis.
The book of Genesis inspired the authors of these works of literature to write alterations of their own
stories. Gilgamesh, Metamorphoses, and The Koran are all variations of the account chronicled in
Genesis. First, there are numerous similarities between the flood in Gilgamesh and the biblical flood
account found in Genesis chapters six through nine. Foremost, two righteous men are selected to build
an ark because of an imminent flood. In Genesis 6:14, God instructs Noah to make thee an ark of
gopher wood, and in Gilgamesh, an assembly of gods send Utnapishtim to abandon [his] home and
build a boat (Gilgamesh 55). In Genesis and in Gilgamesh, both floods are sent because of the
wickedness of man (King James Version, Gen. 6.5). Also, God and the gods in Gilgamesh both regret
destroying the world by flood. Nevertheless, there are also many differences in the two stories.
Although the two heroes both sent out birds to find land, they sent out different varieties of birds.
Noah sent out a raven and three doves while Utnapishtim released a raven, dove, and a swallow. The
blessings that the men receive after the flood were also different. The gods in Gilgamesh grant
Utnapishtim eternal life while Noah s blessing was to be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth
(King James Version Gen. 9.1). The corresponding similarities and differences in the two stories prove
that the events in Genesis inspired the flood account in Gilgamesh. Next, Genesis inspired Ovid to
write Metamorphoses. In Metamorphoses, Deucalion, like Noah, were both righteous men there was
no better man than [Deucalion] (Ovid 1127). Unlike some flood stories, Metamorphoses does in fact
tell of a universal flood because there was no other land, the sea had drowned it all (Ovid 1127).
Similar to Genesis, man s sins cause the flood

The Audience Of Jesus s Speech
The audience that Jesus was speaking to was engulfed in the teaching of the day. Not only through the
hearing of the teachings, but also through the actions of those in religious leadership and the actions of
normal every day people. Jesus made sure that the church was aware that he was not discounting the
law or trying to replace it, but rather he was getting back to the heart of the law and showing how
kingdom people live out these laws . Jesus did this by going through laws that had been given and

that was common to both the Jewish culture and the Gentile culture is that the mention of a deity in an
oath spoke to the truth of the oath and also to punish the one taking the oath if what was affirmed was
not true . People soon began manipulating this by thinking that they could manipulate God into doing
things . They were trying to limit the freedom which God possesses. Jesus then goes on to say, Do not
swear at all and continues on to list several things that are not to be sworn by. During this time, if
someone had made an oath and it turned out to be false, as long as the offending party had not sworn
to the Lord it was not looked at as a serious offense . Swearing by heaven, earth, Jerusalem, or even
one s own head was an even less serious type of oath and if people were already doubting the
assurance of the Lord, how much more would they have questioned the truthfulness of an oath made
to something seen as a lesser binding object ? One commentator notes that although the Greek word
choice is an unconditional negative it does not preclude all oaths. To take this as an unconditional
statement poses significant problems for the audience. In the Old Testament God himself made oaths .
Some commentators would even say that when Jesus makes the truly, truly statements he is swearing
to be true . One commentary even goes on to say, in

Clint Malarchuk And The Buffalo Sabres
Clint Malarchuk was born May 1, 1961 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. He loved hockey and
continued to excel greatly in his sport. He joined the NHL in 1981 as a goalie and played for the
Quebec Nordiques, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres throughout his career. He continued to play
whether it be for a minor league, professional league, or international league team until his retirement
in 1992. Clint Malarchuk was the goalie for the Buffalo Sabres when his life changed forever. On
March 22, 1989 during the first period of a game between the Buffalo Sabres and the St, Louis Blues,
the puck was sent across the face of the goal by a St. Louis Blues player awaiting the arrival of Blues
teammate Steve Tuttle s stick. However, Uwe Krupp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trainer then started cutting off all equipment. Once the ambulance arrived, an IV was put into his
arm but the pressure applied to Mr. Malarchuk s neck was never left without pressure until he was in
doctors hands at the local hospital.
Mr. Pizzutelli did an excellent job of applying pressure to the wound and doing his best to stop the
blood from exiting. His prior experience as an army medic in the Vietnam War prepared him very well
to save Mr. Malarchuk s life. He is credited with acting without any hesitation and pinching off the
artery to prevent further blood loss. His calmness was contagious. Mr. Malarchuk was even said to be
trying to make a joke as he was being rushed to the hospital with blood still pouring from his neck.
Trainers need to have this ability to prevent their patients from going into shock and maintaining a
positive outlook regardless of how bad the situation is. Clint Malarchuck was one of the luckiest men
on earth that night. He lost a third of the blood in his body and doctors said if the skate had cut even a
fourth deeper into his neck he would have died immediately. His neck was sewn up with 300 stitches
and doctors wanted Mr. Malarchuk to stay for at least a week to monitor his conditions. Malarchuck
instead left the next day and returned to action eleven days later despite the doctor s orders to take the
rest of the season off. Back then, the standards and policies were not taken as seriously as they are
today. Injuries are treated

Black English Essay
Stories have existed since the beginning of mankind. Going back as far as ancient Greece in history, or
even further back, one can examine the many different types of stories that have been passed down.
The Ancient Greeks wrote about gods and developed drama; the Romans passed down biographies of
Caesars containing their life achievements as well as their failures; numerous stories questioning the
institution of slavery were produced here in American. Usually by reading the work of an author one
is able to find a message or a moral hidden beneath the storyline. In most cases, authors dictate their
writings in their culture s dialect for many different reasons, many reasons of which that would not
conclude them as being racist for using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this being stated throughout the studies of Black English, one cannot attain that Black English is
flat out racist either.
The use of dialect sets a distinguishing setting throughout a story. Without dialect the reader may be
lost or confused about where the story may be taking place and what initially is going on at the time of
the story. This is an advantage for dialect that helps the reader understand on a non racist level,
especially if the reader is not from the same culture as the writer or story teller. In her story, When
Brer Deer and Brer Terrapin Runned a Race, Emma Backus, says, So he say, Brer Coon did, how Brer
Deer and Brer Terrapin shall run a seven mile race, and the one what get there first shall surely have
the gal , cause he feel that sure in he mind, Brer Coon do, that Brer Deer nat rally bound to outrun old
Brer Terrapin (Lauter, Alberti, and Brady 37). This clearly sets a setting for the story and makes the
reader clearly understand that this story is from long ago and is not in present time. The dialect used
only portrays how the story was told and in no way should it have a racist affect on the reader. When
an author uses dialect, he or she creates an entire world, which directly reflects their very own
experience. Without it, the story becomes less interesting and more boring to a reader. Dialect
generates a more personal outlook on what the author is really trying to state throughout

The Psychedelic Movement
The era of the 60 s was an embryonic, prominent, and distinctive era by planting the seed of idealistic
values to future generations ahead. When we think of the era of the 60 s we imagine hippies uprising
the conventional values of American culture, ingestion of hallucinatory drugs, massive music festivals,
and creative bohemian fashion. A massively important factor to the embodiment of the 60 s social
movement was the creation of the Psychedelic movement. Through the accidental discovery of
Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) in 1938 by Albert Hoffman, a Sandoz Pharmaceutical chemist,
began the wave of a societal movement of Psychedelic exploration. (Grof 17). This powerful

patients with the anxiety of mortality by facilitating a spiritual experience. According to Dr. Stanislav
Grof, they initially gave LSD to alcoholic patients with the intention of deterring them further
drinking by the horrors of a simulated delirium tremens. Paradoxically, however, it seemed to be the
profound positive experiences in LSD sessions that were correlated with good therapeutic results.
(Grof 32). To elaborate, research shows that Lysergic Acid 25 had a positive influence on individuals
with addiction to alcohol. This shows that individuals with Addiction to alcohol and other substances

How To Get Credit For A New Business Case Study
How to get credit for a new business
Written by Janet Gershen Siegel
Do you know how a new business can acquire a business line of credit? As a new business, by
definition, you have no or little business credit history, so it could be difficult. When you ask: What is
the credit score of a new business? The answer is it s usually not so hot. But you can get past that.
Here are some ideas which will work.
Use your personal credit to get started
At some point, you will want to stop doing this, but at the beginning, you have got to get your new
business off the ground, and that means you will need developmental funding. This is funding to do
anything from paying a rental deposit for an office to purchasing a set of prototypes for a ... Show

No matter which kind of vendor you get trade credit with, be responsible and, of course, pay them on
time (and early, if you can swing that). Not only does that reinforce and maintain that relationship, it
also counts toward your credit score.
Be responsible with any credit you ve got, including personal
This may feel a bit like an obvious fact, but your use of currently existing credit will be what any
creditor (trade or banks, etc.) will use to ascertain if you can pay your bills on time and are, therefore,
what is considered a good credit risk. Suddenly squandering all of your personal credit at the tables in
Vegas is not going to endear you to future lenders. New companies in particular, no matter how
cautious they are, are generally evaluated as the full credit package. That is, both personal and
business credit scores are under consideration. If you look like a bad credit risk on the personal credit
side, you ll appear, to future lenders and creditors, to be an equally poor credit risk on the business
side of things.
Establish your business under IRS rules
And finally, because a new business and its credit will inevitably be conflated with the personal credit
of its founder(s), take steps to separate the two. One of the most significant steps you can take is to
apply for an IRS EIN (employer identification number). By declaring to the IRS that your new
business is the real deal, and not just a pipe dream

Secession 16 By Alfred Roller Essay
Design 1: Secession 16 by Alfred Roller (1902) Heller, S., Ilic, M. (2001). Genius moves: 100 icons of
graphic design (First ed., p. 12). Cincinnati, OH: North Light Books. The design is a poster designed
as a part of the 16th exhibition of the Viennese secession (1902). The design is a poster, laid out in a
narrow vertical format. The title text stands at the top with the s glyphs stretched out to two thirds of
the page length, where they draw the eye to an ornate and densely packed font outlining the names of
those exhibiting, the date and presumably the location. The colours are subtle so as to recede into the
background and allow the solid black of the text to stand out. The pattern in the background consists
of three inverted, uneven pentagons; the inverted form creates an arrow like motion and the implied
movement, aids in drawing the eye toward the bottom of the poster. The process used to create this
image is lithography. In lithography, the stone is not raised as in relief printing, nor incised, as with
intaglio. Rather it is formed on the flat plane of the printing surface. Printing from a flat surface is
called planographic printing. (Meggs Purvis (2012)) German printers spearheaded colour lithography,
and the French printer Godefroy Engelmann (1788 1839) patented a process named
chromolithographie in 1837. After analysing the colours contained within the original image, the
printer separated them into a series of printing plates and printed these

Kuhn has been even more distressed by those who admiringly misinterpret him. I ve often said that I
am much fonder of my critiques than my fans, he comments. In the 1960s his work was seized on by
radicals opposed to science and its offspring, technology, and indeed to any cognitive authority that
might distort pure experience. Kuhn recalls students telling him, Oh, thank you, Mr. Kuhn, for telling
us about paradigms. Now that we know about them, we can get rid of them. a) How would Kuhn
address the criticism that he is claiming science to be nothing more than power politics or mob
psychology? b) He described it this way because sometimes scientists or people of science follow the
convention of multiple people with valid theories. They follow what was tested or theorized and
expand their research from that. It is similar to politics in that there is one individual that attempts to
persuade the many to follow them and that their ideas are the truth through experimentation. He would
address the criticism by reminding those that he still believes in science and that the idea of a
paradigm is not completely a bad thing, for if you can identify it you can strive to get rid of it and
progress in your thinking. b) Did the 60s radicals rid the world of paradigms? Why or why not? No,

Benefits And Benefits Of Forgiveness
One the other hand, there are various benefits from forgiveness. An individual who is more opt to

Individuals who were more likely to forgive were also seen to have higher levels of empathy. Empathy
involves the thinking of the offender as a human and trying to understand what influenced their
behavior. While also offering the offender compassion is seen to reduce the intense arousal and
negative grudges while offering a more positive emotion towards the offender (Witvliet et al., 2001).
This is seen to decrease the negative emotions that one feels towards another which will help them
develop more positive emotions. With forgiveness there is also the connection of decreased chronic
blaming, anger, hostility, increase in optimistic thinking, an increase in social support, and
transcendent consciousness with forgiveness (Lawler et al., 2005). Forgiveness has a lot of benefits to
an individual overall emotional well being.
Mental/ Physical Health Benefits

reducing the physical effects that anger and hostility inflict (Lawler Row et al., 2008). Most of the
negative consequences of un forgiveness, are seen to be reserved from the benefit of forgiveness. An

Essay on Censoring Internet Pornography
Introduction
Pornography engages people on many levels. Some people enjoy pornography while others believe
that the world would be best without it. Some would think that a song like It s Nice to be Nude is a
cute song that is celebrating the joys of the human body. Others may think that it is obscene and not
worth listening to.
Pornography is highly subjective in respect to what it is, how it is defined, and its merits. The intent of
this paper is to discuss pornography in a historical context and how it affects librarians in regards to its
presence on the Internet.

From drawings on cave walls7 to HBOs Sex and the City the depiction of sex appears to be one of the
threads that ties the centuries together. Montgomery Hyde, while exploring the roots of Western
pornography, found that even in the Bible there is an abundance of material in the Old Testament on
the subject of pornography in its original sense of writing about prostitutes and their patrons, as there
are also references which are certainly obscene if not pornographic in the wider sense as it is generally
understood today. 8
In early Greece, representations of men and women enjoying various forms of sexual intercourse were
even depicted on the bottoms of children s drinking bowls and plates, so that they could have
something amusing to look at when they were having their meals. 9 About the time of the birth of
Christ, Ovid wrote for a Roman audience Ars Amorato ? a work if not pornographic in the strictest
sense, at least highly erotic. 10
The pornographic tradition continued in Western culture with works such as the Decameron, The
Canterbury Tales in England, and the Heptameron in France. 11 Fascination with the bawdy is also the
basis for many a literary classic. Much of Shakespeare s writing, for example, is of uninhibited
ribaldries and obscenities. 12 The depiction of the naked, sexual human form is also found throughout
the art world.13 Indeed, walk into virtually any museum, art

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children s Behavior
The effect of violent video games on children s behavior has been the major concern of numerous
researchers over the last several decades. Indeed, a great number of researches conducted by
psychologists show that regular exposure to violent video games has both long term and short term
negative effects on a player s behavior. Aggressiveness and lack of empathy are considered to be two
main outcomes of constant playing games with violent content. However, it should be noted that the
content is not the only criteria that should be taken into account when measuring games effects on
behavior. Indeed, much attention should be paid to the difficulty of games and time spent on playing.
Thus, a brief overview of studies concerning the violent video games effect and those disproving this
idea along with the analysis of other factors affecting children s behavior such as moral standards and
family environment will show that violent video games are not principal factors that affect children s
behavior and cause child violence.
When analyzing different studies proving the idea that all violent video games lead to aggressiveness
and violence, it is important to mention that all 3 main types of studies have both advantages and
disadvantages. Anderson and Swing distinguished the following types of studies: (a) experimental; (b)
cross sectional correlational; and (c) longitudinal ones (Paludi 47). Thus, experimental studies are
focused on manipulating exposure to violence via media and

Therefore, I strongly agree that women should breastfeed their infants no matter how busy they are.
However, solutions should be taken into account from family to society in order to encourage women
to breastfeed their babies. Firstly, as a husband, he should give a moral support to her wife to feed
their infants with maternal milk because a wife will definitely listen to her husband to feed their
infants as the husband is considered as one of the closest people to a wife. Secondly, media should
give exposure to women on the importance of breastfeeding through social media such as Facebook,
Twitter or Instagram. Lastly, the public needs to change their perspective towards women who feed
their babies with maternal milk because public s perception has made most of the women feel
ashamed and do not have the confidence to breastfeed their infants especially in public area during
emergency cases. After taking these solutions into consideration, hopefully, the rate of women that

Alicia Donovan s My Life Essay
Alicia Donovan leans causally against the railing of her grandmother s porch, smoldering cigarette in
hand, watching the cars and passerbys going up and down Mount Pleasant Avenue in Providence. A
beat up Chevrolet with blasting rap music slows down and Donovan exchanges good natured insults
with the four or five boys inside. Teasingly, she makes and obscene gesture and the car takes off up the
street, leaving the air thick with the distinct smell of muffler smoke and the fading strains of DMX. As
they disappear out of sight, she shakes her head and chuckles slightly, obviously struck by some funny
thought that she s not about to share. Watching this nonchalant blonde, no one would ever guess she

The Ancient Songs, Stories And Art Of Native People
Patty Loew writes the ancient songs, stories and art of Native people are filled with symbolism and
wisdom. In order to understand the cultural meaning of the people, places, and events that shaped their
lives, we must not only read history, but also listen to it (Loew 11). When we listen to history, it can be
recognized by means of how the author acknowledges that written accounts of people and their lives
does in fact offer a valuable source of information, but it diminishes in comparison to what could
actually be learned from those who actually come from that history. Additionally, in order to actually
listen to history it s important to read it but it also means that we must be able to understand it. If we
can understand history, we can use our understandings of history to apply it to history over time.
History is important when listening to the past because of the fact that it gives people an
understanding of how people s cultures have evolved over time. This also allows us to learn from the
past and hopefully prevent making the same mistakes again in the future. Passing stories down is
another important component in order to listen to history due to the fact that oral history has allowed
us to construct the past and get more crucial details. Throughout the book there are several examples
of how the author listened to history in order to write her book. From the first chapter in Indian
Nations of Wisconsin, Loew allows us to listen to history by means of discussing

Introduction Of Antiviral Drugs
Antiviral Drugs
 Introduction: These are the agents which are used in the treatment and prevention of an infectious
disease caused by certain viruses. They are antimicrobial compounds like antibiotics, antifungal, ant

and other organisms in a way that they lack cell wall and cell membrane. They contain a core of
nucleic acid that may be DNA or RNA, surrounded by the protein coat.
Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites, which means that they cannot grow outside the host cell,

It prevents the entry of the virus by binding to the CCR5 coreceptors, these coreceptors work together

2. Integrase Inhibitor for HIV:
Mechanism of Action: The integrase inhibitors are also called Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors
(INSTIs). It inhibits the incorporation of viral DNA into the host DNA.
An enzyme called integrase help in the insertion of viral DNA into the host DNA by making a cut in
the host DNA at some points and then inserting the viral DNA into it. This enzyme has active sites
through which it makes a cut in host DNA. The inhibition process occurs when INSTIs attach to the
active sites of the enzyme, preventing the enzyme from making a cut in host DNA, therefore,
inhibiting insertion.
Dolutegravir and Raltegravir: It is an Integrase Inhibitor that works by binding to the active sites of
the enzyme and displaces one end of the DNA strand, making it impossible for the viral DNA to be
integrated into the host DNA.
Antimicrobial Spectrum: These drugs are effective against a wide range of wild type and drug
resistance HIV, including the strains that use CCR5 or CXCR4 coreceptors for entry into the host cell.

Economic Growth and Development
ECONOMIC GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Introduction
Economies grow and develop, they expand and advance, and they progress and prosper. There are
phases when they decline too, and there are economies that experience continuous decay. If one
considers long stretches of human history, one knows that economies (civilizations) disappeared
altogether. We will not take into account such long stretches of time. We shall not consider too distant
a past either. We will leave them to historians, may be, economic historians.
Let us take a normal view. We shall then accept decline as an occasional, temporary phenomenon. We
shall, therefore, use positive terms only. Of the positive terms, which have been used to describe
changes as well as to prescribe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The growth rate is often expressed in terms of per cent per annum. This is a positive change; there
could be a negative change also.
Suppose, we look at a twenty year period and use yearly figures for flow of output of goods, which is
measured in terms of GDPFC at constant prices. The growth rates calculated on yearly basis would
differ from year to year. Shall we use nineteen year to year figures of growth rate, some of which may
be negative, to describe the change? Or, should we just compare the initial figure with the final figure?
If we adopt the former, how to summarise the nineteen figures? If we adopt the latter, it is possible
that one of these (initial or final) figures is just abnormal as it does not fall in line. Would it not be a
good idea to speak of general tendency and ignore abnormal fluctuations around the general tendency
of increase? Economic growth should, therefore, be taken as a long term tendency reflected by
increase in flow of final goods and services produced by the economy.
If there is a general tendency of growth but there are occurrences of decline, the rates of growth will
be negative in certain years. Shall we then say that, while the potential of economy to produce is
continuously increasing, the potential is sometimes not realised? There could be various reasons for
occasional decline. In economies that depend to a large extent on external trade

Malcolm Knowles Andragogy
Executive Summary:
This paper is a research on Malcolm Knowles topic andragogy . Knowles describes andragogy as the
art and science of adult learning. Andragogy focuses on special needs od adults learners, he classifies
these need into six different categories: (1) need to know, (2) self concept, (3) prior experience, (4)
readiness to learn, (5) learning orientation, and (6) motivation to learn.
Adults have special needs as learners and these needs should be taken into consideration when
planning training for adults. When adults participate in a positive learning experience that follows the
six assumptions of andragogy presented in this paper, they are more likely to retain what they have
learned and apply it in their work environment.
Qantas
Introduction:
As a HR graduate, through research and examination it was found that Knowles Andragogy is the best
way for adults to learn. Every group contains a configuration of idiosyncratic personalities, differing
past experiences, current orientations, levels of readiness for learning, and individual learning styles.
Thus trainers should be wary of prescribing any standardized approach to facilitating learning
(Brookfield 1986). Understanding the six assumptions in andragogy prepares facilitators to create
successful training. Qantas What is Andragogy?
Malcolm Shepherd Knowles (1913 1997) was an American educator well known for the use of the
term Andragogy as synonymous to the adult education.

Gq Magazine Stereotypes
When reading magazines, a consumer will come across multiple products that are targeted for both
men and women. Vogue is a magazine for women filled with high end fashion, beauty products, and
topics that are currently trending in society at the time. GQ targets mainly men and is filled with the
style of men and products they might be into which could relate to fashion, hygiene, food, or
technology. Women could look in the GQ magazine and men could take a look in the Vogue magazine,
not necessarily for themselves but maybe they are interested in purchasing a product that a person
opposite of their gender would want. Both these magazines advertise high end products and use thin or
fit models to advertise the products which contributes to society s views on body image and economic
status. Furthermore, both these magazines portray the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, many of these stereotypes have changed throughout the years which is why both magazines
are not really much different. Before, the women were expected to cook. They were the ones who ran
the household which is why many of the magazines for women had incorporated various recipes. Now
looking at both the Vogue and GQ magazine, it is noticeable that the stereotype is leaving the minds of
many people. The fact that were more advertisements on food in the GQ magazine than the Vogue
magazine proves that society has been improving. The Vogue magazine features Gigi Hadid and her
boyfriend Zayn Malik. They go through each other s closets. Hadid has clothing items that Malik
would be interested in wearing. Malik has clothing items that Hadid would want to wear. Clothing has
become much more universal now, to the point that couples can chop each other s closets. Both
magazines feature many of the same brands like Gucci. Gucci is a high end brand with clothing for
both men and women. There were not only Forever 21 advertisements for women and Abercrombie
and Fitch advertisements for

How Do Proteins Help Body Repair Cells
Living organisms need proteins in their diet to help the body repair cells and make new ones. The
basic structure of protein is a chain of amino acids. When two amino acids join together a dipeptide is
formed but when more than two amino acids are joined together a polypeptide is formed. Proteins are
made up of one or more polypeptides. Proteins are large molecules made up of the elements hydrogen,
oxygen, nitrogen and carbon. Types of proteins include, structural proteins, contractile proteins,
hormones, enzymes, antibodies and transport proteins. Some functions of proteins are movement in
muscles, tendons and ligaments. Enzymes make biological reactions possible and hormones regulate
metabolism. The protein shape determines its function.Proteins ... Show more content on

They include keratin found in hair and nails, and collagen found in connective tissue. Collagen under
a microscope look like long fibres that are woven together to create extra strength, it is a fibrous
protein. Collagen is made up of three polypeptide chains wound around each other. Hydrogen bonds
forms between the chains and this gives the structure strength. The collagen account for around a
quarter of all proteins in the body. The function of collagen is to give mechanical strength. In the walls
of arteries, a layer of collagen prevents blood that is being pumped from the heart at high pressure
from bursting the walls. Tendons connect skeletal muscles to the bones. Tendons are mostly collagen
and form a strong connection that allows muscles to pull bones for movement. Collagen is also
responsible for the elasticity of the skin, which is why the skin becomes wrinkled when it lacks
collagen . It also makes the skin waterproof. The functions of collagen in the connective tissue include
nutrient transport and inflammation. Hormones are also a type of proteins and functions as chemical
signaling molecules . These proteins are secreted by endocrine cells that act to control or regulate
specific physiological processes which include growth development, metabolism, and reproduction.
Insulin is a protein hormone secreted by the beta cells of the pancreas and helps to regulate blood
glucose levels. In response to insulin, muscle cells, red blood cells and fat cells take glucose in from
the blood which ultimately lowers high blood glucose levels back to the normal

The Field Of Critical Care
Introduction
The field of critical care is rapidly changing. It is important for anesthesiologists be knowledgeable of
these changes for providing care to critically ill patients in the perioperative period. The purpose of
this chapter is to provide update for clinicians on ICU issues relevant to clinical practice. Topics which
will be discussed include: modes of mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, antibiotic
prophylaxis, nutritional support, sedation management, transport and transfer of care.
I. Modes of Mechanical Ventilation
Introduction
Most patients undergoing general anesthesia for surgical procedures require mechanical ventilation.
One of the biggest challenges facing clinicians providing mechanical ventilatory support today is
managing the balance between providing adequate gas exchange and avoiding lung injury associated
with positive pressure ventilation. Patients with respiratory failure need adequate tissue oxygenation
and acid base balance; however, the lungs are fragile structures that can be injured by over distension,
alveolar collapse and reopening, and high oxygen exposure. This challenge in providing lung
protective ventilation is made more difficult by the fact that lung injury is often heterogeneous and
thus what may benefit gas exchange in one region (e.g., higher pressure) may worsen injury in
another.
Modern anesthesia ventilators are becoming increasingly sophisticated provide high performances in
delivering accurately and

Christian Meditation On God And Spending Time Essay
Every now I then I receive a letter from a subscriber on the best way to incorporate Christian
meditation into their daily devotion time with God. Including Christian meditation, into your daily
schedule can make your life so much more rewarding and fulfilling. There are numerous benefits to
meditating on God and spending time in His presence. These include developing a more intimate
relationship with Christ, eliminating worry and stress, creating a space for God to speak to our hearts,
and becoming more sensitive to the Holy Spirit to name a few.
I have tried many, many different schedules for my Morning Devotion over the years, but the one I am
about to share with you has been the best one for me. By Morning Devotion I mean the time I take
each morning before I leave for the job or work on my business. The days that I skip these activities
are usually marked with anxiety and frustration. I have reasoned that if I m too busy for God and
myself, then I m just too busy and that busyness and chaos usually ends up being a theme throughout
my entire day.
God created us spirit, soul, and body and He doesn t want us to neglect any of these areas. We neglect
our bodies when we eat poorly and don t exercise. We neglect our mind or soul when we feed it with
mental junk food instead of uplifting literature or spiritual delights, and we neglect our spirit when we
don t spend time with God being restored, renewed, and renovated. So instead of thinking just,

Who s To Blame In The Crucible
Who s To Blame: The Crucible.
In Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, Miller demonstrated that it was Abigail William s flaws
Immaturity, Lust, and Spitefulness that led her to be most responsible for the tragedy of the witch hunt
in Salem.
Abigail Williams is to be considered a strikingly beautiful young woman. She was the cause of the
whole madness of witch craft by her immaturity because Abigail and with the rest of her friends went
out into the woods while having Tituba conjure spirits so the girls could get guys to fall in love with
them. Once they were caught by Reverend Parris (which is Abigail s uncle) instead of confessing the
truth on what they were doing and owning up to it, Abigail decides to blame Tituba. She blames her
for making the girls go into the woods to conjure spirits and help the devil. When John Proctor hears
about this though, she quickly tells him in private that its nothing but lie. She wants John Proctor to

The Most Important Event in My Life Essay example
The Most Important Event in my Life
The most important event in my life, didn t even happen to myself, but happened to my older sister,
Becky. The reason I am writing about her is because the things that have happened to her and the
things she has done in the past have affected me tremendously as well as my family. Her life used to
be filled with nothing else but drugs, stealing, and lying. My family has never been the same since
then.
It all started out when my very shy, self conscious sister didn t really fit in well. She was 16, chubby
and had very few friends. One day Becky s best friend Debbie introduced her to 19 year old guy name
John. Becky and John hit it off very well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she didn t know anything about it, but that wasn t the true story at all. By that time I was in Nebraska
visiting my favorite aunt. A week went by and I had missed Mother s day that year since our flight was
canceled, so we stayed an extra day. The next day I finally get home, not to find a warm home with
my family greeting me at the door, but instead to find my parents and my sister with a couple of
suitcases in their hands walking to the car. I proceed to ask my mother what was wrong with my sister
and she replied with Yesterday Becky confessed that for the past year, she has been doing heroin. My
heart sank. I never thought it was that serious. My parents took her to rehab, and I went into my room
and cried the rest of the day.
My parents came back, surprisingly still with my sister. They said that the rehab wouldn t take my
sister because she was 18 and a legal adult and could easily sign herself out whenever she wanted. The
rehab told my parents that Becky would have to face her withdrawals at home. Now I never knew how
people acted when they went through withdrawals, but I do know now that it has to be the most
painful and frightening sight I have ever seen. Becky had to stay in my parents

Mccarthyism Research Paper
According to History.com, on the Joseph R. McCarthy webpage more than 2000 government
employees lost their job as a result of McCarthy s investigation. McCarthy s accusations heightened
the political tensions of the time known as McCarthyism. McCarthyism started on February 9, 1950
because McCarthy made McCarthyism which affected a lot of people. First this is what happened with
McCarthy s early years. McCarthy was born on November 14, 1908 in Grand chute, WI. McCarthy
attended Marquette University in Milwaukee. McCarthy earned his law degree in 1935. McCarthy
later became senator in 1946. He was also the youngest member of the us senate. Throughout the 1940
s and 1950 s America was overwhelmed with the threat of communism growing in Europe and China.
In 1950 McCarthy gave a speech that propelled him into the material spotlight. Also in 1950 congress
passed the McCarran Internal Security act. In 1953 he married his wife Jean Fraser Kerr Minetti. They
had an adopted child named Tierney Elizabeth. Also in 1953 McCarthy began his second term of
senator. McCarthy was reelected in 1952 and became chairman of the Senate s Committee on
Government Operations, where he occupied the spotlight for two years with his anti communist
investigations and questioning of suspected officials. McCarthy s charges led to testimony before the
Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, but he was unable to substantiate any of his claims against a
single member of any government department.Despite this setback, McCarthy s popularity
nevertheless continued to rise, as his claims had struck a nerve with an American public tired of the
Korean War and concerned with communist activity in China and Eastern Europe. Undaunted by his

Summary Of Killing The Rising Sun
Killing the Rising Sun by Bill O Reilly and Martin Dugard is a descriptive, well written book
wrapping up the end of World War II. Reading this book makes you feel like you are living in the
midst of the vividly depictive and picturesque scenes that O Reilly and Dugard bring the reader back
to imagine in this book. I really enjoyed this book and I think it really helped me to capture what
happened during World War II and the hardships and trials that the United States went through to
defeat Japan in one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. I hope that in this essay I can
achieve half of what the authors achieved in writing this book.

Taking place on the island of Peleliu, these men went through horrific things and needed an incredible
amount of physical and mental strength to push themselves to fight. Throughout the book, there are
many circumstances that seem to have happened that the authors describe very vividly with specific
details. Although these scenes may be hard for the viewer to imagine actually happening, there is such
great description of the events that makes you want to keep reading more about the things that these
men went through during battle. The book describes men committing suicide with their swords and
chopping off heads and it can be hard to imagine someone doing that. Personally, I really think you
can gather a good understanding that this war in the Pacific was one of the deadliest battles in history
from the examples from the book of things that were everyday events for these people. There were
more than forty million fallen men by the time the war was over and the Japanese committed many
abhorrent acts toward their prisoners. They would deprive them of food, shelter, medical necessities,
and many other vital resources needed to survive a time like World War

  • 8. The Origins Of Yoga And The Second School Being Hatha Yoga In 1893, a man by the name of Vivekananda came to speak at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago. He captivated his audience with the exotic Indian practice of Yoga. His message permeated throughout the United States while capturing the minds of brilliant Americans such as Gertrude Stein. Vivekananda as well as the Doctrine of Yoga were a sensation, but what has become of the mystical practice known as yoga. In this paper I will discuss the origins of yoga in the West, various schools of thought associated with yoga and with a focus on two in particular: the first being Raja yoga (royal yoga) and the second school being Hatha yoga. The young monk made a profound impression on the people who attended the speech. His speech left people spellbound and enchanted. He was able to simplify Vedanta thought in such way that it was more digestible for westerners and more importantly he conveyed the idea that all souls were inherently divine. His mantra was relatable to American, work and worship. Vivekananda became a star overnight. He proceeded to tour the country to further the doctrine of yoga across the nation. Yet the yoga we see across our country is very different from the yogic tradition Vivekananda was teaching. In fact Vivekananda had an absolute lack of interest in the physical aspect of yoga we see today in our society. His goal in America was to help Americans realize God. He was considered the first missionary from the east to the west and it was his goal to help Americans rid themselves of this American individualism. He wanted to rise above the western perception of the east being this exotic and magical place and to deliver truth to people. He felt very strongly about his proselytization. He was quoted saying, I have a message to the West as Buddha had a message to the East. That being said Vivekananda was a man of this world. He had reportedly been seen smoking and eating meat, so this man was far from perfect. Yet nevertheless this man had quite the following. In fact Leo Tolstoy was very ... The problems associating and surrounding this topic are endless, because of all the different biases, reasonable and skeptical thoughts that people contribute to the discussions. On an occasion when this turmoil question comes up an individual might be comparing and thinking that a plain toaster is a machine which is true and yet someone else compares the newest breakthrough in technology such as a robot and they might say that its knows what it is doing. The company Honda has made a robot that they say is by far the most advanced one in the world today, they quote on quote have said it is just like us. The robot has the ability to talk shake hands and perform the mechanical functions that an individual may have, yet in the end the robot was programmed to raise its arm and move it up and down when someone else does, so it mimics your moves and looks up the possible outcomes in its data base, this is NOT an example of a real human. A human has the ability to process the knowledge or what you have said to him or her and have his own opinion and bias towards the conversation or the activity that he or she is involved in, where as a robot just performs the task that it is given and programmed to do, if you were to insult the machine in any ways it would not talk back nor would it be hurt by your actions. Hondas robot just performs the tasks that it is programmed to do such as walk on black circular lines. What I am getting at is a machine just performs the tasks it is made to do with no regret bias or any feelings towards the function. Knowledge, what exactly is it, how can it be classified, an abstract thought that mingles along the deepest permanent curves of our brain or something more real that we can reach out and touch. Congress enacted the AMT as an alternate form of income taxation to ensure that taxpayers with substantial economic income cannot use exclusions, deductions, and credits to avoid a significant part of their tax liability. Because corporations are allowed to reduce their income tax liability, (sometimes to zero) with exclusions, deductions and credits; IRC Section 55 requires many corporations to add back some of these deductions and credits and pay tax on the recalculated amount. The AMTI is computed by adding tax preference and adjustment items to regular taxable income. The most common tax preference item is interest from private activity bonds. This preference item always increases a corporation s AMTI. Private activity bonds are basically allowed to be issued as municipal bonds because projects conducted by private corporations can serve the public need or improve the economy of a state or local municipality. For example projects funded with private activity bonds include airport, docks, parking garages and manufacturing plants. Excluding interest on private activity bonds from the computation of AMT can greatly benefit state and local government by encouraging the construction of manufacturing facilities, rebuilding transportation infrastructure, and the creation of many ... A fragile environment is an area where the flora and fauna have adapted to a specific climate and evolved to occupy many different niches due to extremely high competition for resources. Furthermore due to the constant abiotic conditions, specialisation and symbiotic relationships have occurred to such a degree that even the slightest ecological or environmental disruption cannot be accommodated, meaning individual habitats and ecosystems can be easily destroyed. They are each love songs from a different era of The Beatles work throughout their years. I Should Have Known Better , Michelle , and Dear Prudence have all left great impressions on me. This inspiration led Lennon to write more meaningful lyrics (Benitez, 2016). It is easy to understand why this song was popular reaching the top Billboard charts at number 53 as Lennon s harmonica playing skills are capturing (Wikipedia, 2016). As Chief of Police addressing the use and rehabilitation of drug users who live a life of crime is difficult. Under the current policies, we are giving individuals longer sentences for drug related crime and not addressing the issue of addiction. So, after users commit a crime they are sentenced to jail or prison and once released they go back to the same patterns and environments that fed their addiction so once again they continue to use and these individuals become our habitual offenders. This current system is setting individuals up for failure and not assisting with giving them the tools and knowledge to make changes in their behavior. It was like I was in my very own world and I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted on that farmland back in Tennessee. Now this stinky dump in Cleveland is nothing like our city in Tennessee. • 17. A Comparison Of Genesis And Genesis Many stories and fables have been written and passed down from generation to generation about the great flood recorded in Genesis. However, critics can reason all they want because God created the world, and the creation is not a debatable topic. The Genesis account of the flood came first; therefore, Gilgamesh, Ovid s Metamorphoses, and The Korans accounts of the flood are all inspired by Genesis. The book of Genesis inspired the authors of these works of literature to write alterations of their own stories. Gilgamesh, Metamorphoses, and The Koran are all variations of the account chronicled in Genesis. First, there are numerous similarities between the flood in Gilgamesh and the biblical flood account found in Genesis chapters six through nine. Foremost, two righteous men are selected to build an ark because of an imminent flood. In Genesis 6:14, God instructs Noah to make thee an ark of gopher wood, and in Gilgamesh, an assembly of gods send Utnapishtim to abandon [his] home and build a boat (Gilgamesh 55). In Genesis and in Gilgamesh, both floods are sent because of the wickedness of man (King James Version, Gen. 6.5). Also, God and the gods in Gilgamesh both regret destroying the world by flood. Nevertheless, there are also many differences in the two stories. Although the two heroes both sent out birds to find land, they sent out different varieties of birds. Noah sent out a raven and three doves while Utnapishtim released a raven, dove, and a swallow. The blessings that the men receive after the flood were also different. The gods in Gilgamesh grant Utnapishtim eternal life while Noah s blessing was to be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth (King James Version Gen. 9.1). The corresponding similarities and differences in the two stories prove that the events in Genesis inspired the flood account in Gilgamesh. Next, Genesis inspired Ovid to write Metamorphoses. In Metamorphoses, Deucalion, like Noah, were both righteous men there was no better man than [Deucalion] (Ovid 1127). Unlike some flood stories, Metamorphoses does in fact tell of a universal flood because there was no other land, the sea had drowned it all (Ovid 1127). Verse 33 in Matthew 5 the first type of oaths that are addressed are oaths made to the Lord. Something that was common to both the Jewish culture and the Gentile culture is that the mention of a deity in an oath spoke to the truth of the oath and also to punish the one taking the oath if what was affirmed was not true . People soon began manipulating this by thinking that they could manipulate God into doing things . They were trying to limit the freedom which God possesses. Jesus then goes on to say, Do not swear at all and continues on to list several things that are not to be sworn by. During this time, if someone had made an oath and it turned out to be false, as long as the offending party had not sworn to the Lord it was not looked at as a serious offense . Swearing by heaven, earth, Jerusalem, or even one s own head was an even less serious type of oath and if people were already doubting the assurance of the Lord, how much more would they have questioned the truthfulness of an oath made to something seen as a lesser binding object ? One commentator notes that although the Greek word choice is an unconditional negative it does not preclude all oaths. The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children s Behavior The effect of violent video games on children s behavior has been the major concern of numerous researchers over the last several decades. Indeed, a great number of researches conducted by psychologists show that regular exposure to violent video games has both long term and short term negative effects on a player s behavior. Aggressiveness and lack of empathy are considered to be two main outcomes of constant playing games with violent content. However, it should be noted that the content is not the only criteria that should be taken into account when measuring games effects on behavior. Indeed, much attention should be paid to the difficulty of games and time spent on playing. Thus, a brief overview of studies concerning the violent video games effect and those disproving this idea along with the analysis of other factors affecting children s behavior such as moral standards and family environment will show that violent video games are not principal factors that affect children s behavior and cause child violence. When analyzing different studies proving the idea that all violent video games lead to aggressiveness and violence, it is important to mention that all 3 main types of studies have both advantages and disadvantages. Anderson and Swing distinguished the following types of studies: (a) experimental; (b) cross sectional correlational; and (c) longitudinal ones (Paludi 47). Thus, experimental studies are focused on manipulating exposure to violence via media and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, solutions should be taken into account from family to society in order to encourage women to breastfeed their babies. Firstly, as a husband, he should give a moral support to her wife to feed their infants with maternal milk because a wife will definitely listen to her husband to feed their infants as the husband is considered as one of the closest people to a wife. Secondly, media should give exposure to women on the importance of breastfeeding through social media such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Lastly, the public needs to change their perspective towards women who feed their babies with maternal milk because public s perception has made most of the women feel ashamed and do not have the confidence to breastfeed their infants especially in public area during emergency cases. Alicia Donovan s My Life Essay Alicia Donovan leans causally against the railing of her grandmother s porch, smoldering cigarette in hand, watching the cars and passerbys going up and down Mount Pleasant Avenue in Providence. A beat up Chevrolet with blasting rap music slows down and Donovan exchanges good natured insults with the four or five boys inside. Teasingly, she makes and obscene gesture and the car takes off up the street, leaving the air thick with the distinct smell of muffler smoke and the fading strains of DMX. As they disappear out of sight, she shakes her head and chuckles slightly, obviously struck by some funny thought that she s not about to share. Watching this nonchalant blonde, no one would ever guess she carries the stigma of a childhood marked my tragedy and trauma. • 33. The Ancient Songs, Stories And Art Of Native People Patty Loew writes the ancient songs, stories and art of Native people are filled with symbolism and wisdom. In order to understand the cultural meaning of the people, places, and events that shaped their lives, we must not only read history, but also listen to it (Loew 11). When we listen to history, it can be recognized by means of how the author acknowledges that written accounts of people and their lives does in fact offer a valuable source of information, but it diminishes in comparison to what could actually be learned from those who actually come from that history. Additionally, in order to actually listen to history it s important to read it but it also means that we must be able to understand it. If we can understand history, we can use our understandings of history to apply it to history over time. History is important when listening to the past because of the fact that it gives people an understanding of how people s cultures have evolved over time. This also allows us to learn from the past and hopefully prevent making the same mistakes again in the future. Passing stories down is another important component in order to listen to history due to the fact that oral history has allowed us to construct the past and get more crucial details. Throughout the book there are several examples of how the author listened to history in order to write her book. Integrase Inhibitor for HIV: Mechanism of Action: The integrase inhibitors are also called Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors (INSTIs). It inhibits the incorporation of viral DNA into the host DNA. An enzyme called integrase help in the insertion of viral DNA into the host DNA by making a cut in the host DNA at some points and then inserting the viral DNA into it. This enzyme has active sites through which it makes a cut in host DNA. The inhibition process occurs when INSTIs attach to the active sites of the enzyme, preventing the enzyme from making a cut in host DNA, therefore, inhibiting insertion. There are phases when they decline too, and there are economies that experience continuous decay. If one considers long stretches of human history, one knows that economies (civilizations) disappeared altogether. We will not take into account such long stretches of time. We shall not consider too distant a past either. We will leave them to historians, may be, economic historians. Let us take a normal view. We shall then accept decline as an occasional, temporary phenomenon. We shall, therefore, use positive terms only. This is a positive change; there could be a negative change also. Suppose, we look at a twenty year period and use yearly figures for flow of output of goods, which is measured in terms of GDPFC at constant prices. The growth rates calculated on yearly basis would differ from year to year. Shall we use nineteen year to year figures of growth rate, some of which may be negative, to describe the change? Or, should we just compare the initial figure with the final figure? If we adopt the former, how to summarise the nineteen figures? If we adopt the latter, it is possible that one of these (initial or final) figures is just abnormal as it does not fall in line. Would it not be a good idea to speak of general tendency and ignore abnormal fluctuations around the general tendency of increase? Economic growth should, therefore, be taken as a long term tendency reflected by increase in flow of final goods and services produced by the economy. If there is a general tendency of growth but there are occurrences of decline, the rates of growth will be negative in certain years. Shall we then say that, while the potential of economy to produce is continuously increasing, the potential is sometimes not realised? There could be various reasons for occasional decline. • 38. Malcolm Knowles Andragogy Executive Summary: This paper is a research on Malcolm Knowles topic andragogy . Knowles describes andragogy as the art and science of adult learning. Andragogy focuses on special needs od adults learners, he classifies these need into six different categories: (1) need to know, (2) self concept, (3) prior experience, (4) readiness to learn, (5) learning orientation, and (6) motivation to learn. Adults have special needs as learners and these needs should be taken into consideration when planning training for adults. When adults participate in a positive learning experience that follows the six assumptions of andragogy presented in this paper, they are more likely to retain what they have learned and apply it in their work environment. Qantas Introduction: As a HR graduate, through research and examination it was found that Knowles Andragogy is the best way for adults to learn. Every group contains a configuration of idiosyncratic personalities, differing past experiences, current orientations, levels of readiness for learning, and individual learning styles. Thus trainers should be wary of prescribing any standardized approach to facilitating learning (Brookfield 1986). Understanding the six assumptions in andragogy prepares facilitators to create successful training. Qantas What is Andragogy? One of the biggest challenges facing clinicians providing mechanical ventilatory support today is managing the balance between providing adequate gas exchange and avoiding lung injury associated with positive pressure ventilation. Patients with respiratory failure need adequate tissue oxygenation and acid base balance; however, the lungs are fragile structures that can be injured by over distension, alveolar collapse and reopening, and high oxygen exposure.
