The Relationship Between Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy ( Dmd )
The ability to walk is something that our society seems to take for granted. A neuromuscular
disease can take that ability away instantly. As with any neuromuscular disease, the body s muscles
are specifically attacked. Normally that attack is caused by a lack or mutation of a specific gene.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy(DMD) has a direct relationship with a lack of dystrophin synthesis.
It is possible that the dystrophin synthesis can be increased by manipulation of microRNA 31.
When looking at a potential therapy or cure, it is important to recognize exactly how the disease
affects the body. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is one of the most severe myopathies, or
musclediseases (Cacchiarelli et al). To be diagnosed with DMD, a patient must have a mutation in
the dystrophin gene present (Muscular Dystrophy Association). Moreover, that mutation in the gene
is what causes the lack of dystrophin synthesis. Dystrophin is protein in the body that keeps the
muscles intact (Muscular Dystrophy Association). Therefore, a lack of dystrophin causes the
muscles to deteriorate; which is identified as dystrophy. When the body lacks strong healthy
muscle, it does not only become weak; the body itself begins to shut down. Our organs depend on
the muscles that allow us to walk, eat, and breathe to provide energy, nutrients, and oxygen. For
this reason, DMD eventually leads to a short life. Due to the genetic attributions of DMD, there are
specific demographics affected normally. DMD

Allusion In I Am Legend
Plot Summary
In the novella I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, Robert is the last human on Earth that has been
plagued by a disease that turns humans into vampires. This infection has ended with Neville alone
in a house to fend and survive, in an undisclosed area of Los Angeles. It is mentioned several
times through the novella that bombs could have caused the mutation of a disease and constant
sandstorms attribute to the spreading of the infection throughout the areas of Los Angeles. In
order to fend off the blood sucking vampires, Neville sets up perimeters of garlic, and mirrors to
repel the vampires getting closer to his house. Additionally, Neville installs lights and boards his
windows so the vamps can t get in without a fight. All of his ... Show more content on

What it really means, is that Neville, once on a hopeless island of despair, now has answers to his
problems that he is facing. The author refers to Santa Claus because he is known to come to town
and bring gifts, but instead, he brings answers to Neville. In addition, it refers to Robin Crusoe a
character that was once trapped on a deserted island for a long period of time before being saved
and getting trapped again. As is Neville, alone and trapped in a world where vampires surround
him every day, waiting for the chance to jump him for his

Corporate Power And Its Effect On Social, Political, And...
Since the late 1970s corporate power has grown to unprecedented heights. What does increasing
corporate power have on social, political, and/or environmental factors?
Who has the most power? Governments, consumers or corporations? Perhaps the question that
should be asked is who should have the most power. The obvious answer would be consumers
and the government. Although in a perfect world this may be the case but in reality this is far
from the truth. It is nor do the governments or the consumers who has the most power but rather
the corporations. Over the past four decades, a shift in power has been taking place, out from the
hand citizens and the nations and into the hands of the Multi National corporations (MNCs). This
essay will focus on the unparalleled growth of corporate power and the effects of corporate power
on Africa in terms of social, political and environmental factors.
The rise in corporate power cannot be seen more vividly than in Africa. Over the past four decades,
corporate social responsibilities of multinational corporations operating in Africa has been one of
the most prominent issues in the world. The rise in potency of multinationals owes its existence to
the natural riches of Sub Saharan African nations. These African nations are characterised by high
inflation rates, poverty and diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS. Multinational corporations has
seen an opportunity to exploit these resources in the aim of increasing their profits, thus have

Evolution of Information Technology and its Emergence in India ITM IB PP6 EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY Information Technology today is what runs businesses worldwide. It is what drives
the industries and is an irreplaceable element of our routine lives. But where did it all begin?
Why has it gained so much importance over time, so much so that we study an entire subject on
it? Through this paper we have traced the path of evolution of IT from its nascent stages, globally
as well as from the Indian perspective. We have tried to take into account the tremendous growth
of the IT sector in India and single out the advantages faced by the Indian IT sector. We have also
looked into the performance of the Indian IT industry and its... Show more content on

The margins of these IT service players are very high and their growth rate has been envied by
other sectors. According to a Nasscom forecast, there will be 21 24 % growth rate in software
and services revenue in this financial year. Soon our software exports will touch the magical
figure of $50 billion. The software and services exports segment grew by 29 % to register
revenues of $40.4 billion this year from $31.4 billion in last year. So from statistics point of
view, everything is fine for this industry. It will employ 4 million people in 2008 and account for
7% of gross domestic product and 33% of India s foreign exchange inflows, says the Nasscom
report. However, there are quite some challenges which the IT industry faces. i.)Resource
retention Indian IT sector has become an HR manager s nightmare. Their biggest challenge is
marinating good people in organisation and keeping the attrition rate in control. ii.) Lack of
trained people The supply and demand of quality engineers who are capable of working in the
IT field is having a huge gap. Companies have started looking for additional options of hiring
science graduates and providing them adequate training to enable them to work in IT sector, but
still the quality of talent is declining which in turn means lack of quality in work. iii.) US
slowdown Most of the revenue of IT and ITes ccompanies comes from US. A slowdown in US

Gatsby And Romanticism
In the book The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays Jay Gatz as a man who is willing to do
anything for love. He could also be considered as a romantic hero. However romantic hero does not
mean a person that does everything for love. Romantic hero means someone who is rejected by his
/her actions, or by society. According to James Smith Allen, the term Romanticism has as many
meanings as commentators. However, one can sketch a general definition of the movement based
on its predominant rejection of classical rationality, objectivity, and universality in favor of an
emotional, subjective, and personal response to the world......the Romantic herowas a frequently a
familial and social outcast, and defined him or her self via notions of... Show more content on

One day Nick Carraway the speaker of the book The Great Gatsby attended to one of Gatsby s
parties he notice Gatsby being alone on his marble steps, just watching the party go on, making
no physical or social connection with any of his guests, but Nick did not knew why was he apart
from everyone else. The nature of Mr. Tostoff s composition eluded me, because just as it began
my eyes fell on Gatsby, standing alone on the marble steps and looking from one group to
another with approving eyes. His tanned skin was drawn attractively tight on his face and his
short hair looked as though it were trimmed everyday. I could see nothing sinister about him. I
wondered if the fact that he was not drinking helped to set him off from his guests, for it seemed
to me that he grew more correct as the fraternal hilarity increased. (pg 50). This quote is very
important because it gives the reader an understanding on Gatsby s personality, on the way that he
acts around other people.
Gatsby isolated himself when the love of his life left him and married someone else. He wanted to
get her back so he isolated himself from everything that did not had to do with his love Daisy, he
made money, bought a house, and throw expensive parties to impress Daisy, so he can get her
back and have some company in his life.

Amber s Secret
Amber s Secret
Bio202
Amber is an 18 year old woman who has found she is feeling sick and unusual. She comes to find
out that she is pregnant and consults her doctor. Being concerned of her student status and what
her parents might think are her biggest fears. The fetus growing inside her is almost 11 weeks and
has her own story from the inside. Mentioning all of the growth that has occurred and the
development milestones she has reached, the fetus is concerned of her own well being. The doctor
offers Amber the options of abortion and adoption, and then the heart beat will be heard. It is
unclear what Amber s choice is in the end.

4. What are the hormonal and physical changes going on in Amber during her pregnancy? What is
keeping her from menstruating as normal?
Physiological changes occurring in Amber s body are happening in her gastrointestinal, urinary,
respiratory and cardiovascular system. She is feeling sick because of the increased hCG,
progesterone and estrogen levels. Her story is only until her 11th week of her pregnancy, but she
may feel many symptoms throughout the rest of her pregnancy if it is not aborted. Those
symptoms could be increased urination because the kidneys are disposing of fetal metabolic waste
as well as her own. Blood volume also rises to help accommodate the fetus needs (Marieb amp;
Hoehn 2013).
An over production of the hormone progesterone is created which stops the follicle stimulating
hormones (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Those are the hormones needed for an egg to be
released and travel down into the uterus for a menstruation cycle. If that does not occur, there is not
menstruation (Marieb amp; Hoehn 2013)
5. How does a pregnancy test work?
At home pregnancy tests can be purchased over the counter or a blood test can be performed at the
doctor s office. They both check for the human Chorionic Gonadotropin, hCG, hormone that is
produced during pregnancy. The home pregnancy test uses urine, and the doctor s office tests blood
(Women s Health 2006).
6. How can we account for Amber s symptoms?

Business Strategy Assignment
Generic Competitive Strategy Model
I choose the Hospitality Industry in the line of Accommodation. As we all know, there are many
rivals in this industry line, and many of them are the large companies that have many chains along
the line. Therefore, I would like to focus on one big company, and categorize its chains in each
competitive strategy, Marriott. Marriott is a worldwide operator and franchisor of a broad portfolio
of hotels and related lodging facilities. It has more than 3,000 lodging properties located in the
United States and 67 other countries and territories. Each of them has its own strategy to run the
business as they have different positioning and target different types of customers.

Courtyard by Marriott is another hotel that I choose to place in this category because of its high
quality service at reasonable price. Courtyard is the place where offers travelers the choices and
options that let them make the most of their time on the road. It competes with other mid priced
business oriented hotels like Wingate Inn and Hilton Garden Inn. With its full services at
affordable price, the customers are both the normal travelers and the business travelers as they are
viewed as the best place with good services at the price they can afford. * Focused Low cost
Strategy concentrating on a narrow buyer segment and outcompeting rivals by serving niche
members at a lower cost than rivals
Marriot Conference Centers is a Quality tier brand specializing in highly effective small to mid
sized meetings at reasonable price. It focuses on the critical details, so their customers can
concentrate on the business, meetings, and the results. As it clearly stated its position, it is no
doubt to classify it in this category as their focus its on the business people who have the business
at a hand to negotiate or the meetings to conduct; therefore, it tends to provide all other facilities in
order to let their customers focus on only their business.
Another hotel that I think it fits with the

Should We Continue Human Cloning
One event that will probably in happen in the near future is human cloning. Human cloning began
inevitable when Scottish scientists made Dolly. The sheep was cloned on July 5, 1996 which
made her the most famous sheep in the world. Dolly was the result of 277 failed attempts. She was
actually formed without a sperm. So Dollys cell began from a sheep and was fused with a donor egg
through electricity. Since the birth of Dolly was a major scientific breakthrough, scientists wanted
to perfect human cloning. So people decided to clone animals because it seemed more ethical than
testing humans. President Clinton signed a five year contract so they can began the cloning of
animals and the federal funding. So far, scientists have cloned mice, sheep, pigs, cows, and many
more animals. The chances have now increased to one to four percent. That maybe low however it

scientists hypothesize that somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) will be the way. SCNT begins
when doctors take an egg from a female donor. Once they remove the nucleus, the create an
enucleated egg. A DNA cell is taken from the human being cloned. Next, the enucleated fuses with
the subject s cell. This will create an embryo that is implanted in the mother. If the attempt was a
success, the mother gives birth to the clone. However the success rate is only one or two out of 100

Elasticity In The Miller s Tale By Geoffrey Chaucer
Henri Bergson s theory states that tension and elasticity are required in social life to adapt to the
ever changing situations. Someone who is severely deficient in elasticity and tension will be
denied access to society either by isolation or hospitalization. For someone that is slightly
deficient or has a minor slip in elasticity or tension, the penalty will be laughter. According to
Henri Bergson, the perception of mechanical inelasticity engenders laughter and is the basis of
the comic. This inelasticity is clearly demonstrated in The Miller s tale by Geoffrey Chaucer with
John and Absalon being the main targets of the ridicule, Nicholas becomes a target towards the
end of the tale. Chaucer s characterization of those personages attitudes and behavior support
Bergson s theory of mechanical inelasticity. First of all, John the carpenter, during the whole story,
is a victim of the ridicule. He is so well played by Nicholas, who has a gift for telling people what
they want to hear and manipulate them, that John will do everything that Nicholas asks of him.

Absalon after being ridiculed by Alison finally adapts to the situation and loses his mechanical
inelasticity. According to Bergson s theory, he is no longer the target of the ridicule. He
borrows a dagger that is still hot. He comes again to Alison s window to try again and get a kiss
so that he can burn her with the dagger. Nicholas who thinks he can ridicule Absalon even more
by doing the same thing gets burned by him. Nicholas for the first time lacks awareness and fails
to adapt and is therefore rigid. Because of this, he is now the victim of the ridicule. Absalon
however, gains elasticity and he adapts, making him the one who brings the ridicule on

While software selection criteria were not in scope for this effort, it does warrant discussion on
the overall availability of specialty software for the medical industry on iOS, Android and
Windows platforms. Currently, most of the MCA s or Medical Clinical Assistant platforms
operate in a Windows only environment, as do most of the key medical records and billing
platforms in the medical field. The cost of custom software development to build a mobile solution
is far beyond the budget of most local hospitals and not an endeavor to be undertaken lightly. Legal,
Regulatory and Security Concerns There are a multitude of patient privacy (HIPAA) and patient
information concerns related to the use of technology in medical care. Selection of the proper
hardware, operating systems and system software make the compliance with and documentation in
support of these regulations far easier. The Android and iOS operating systems have recently
introduced features such as enforced encryption that have made them useable in PCI and HIPAA
compliant environments. The Windows OS has supported PCI and HIPAA compliant elements for
some time. It is critical to keep in mind that PCI and HIPAA compliance is challenging; simple
features such as encryption and two factor authentication availability assist in making a device
compliant but do not guarantee compliance.

Preconceived Notions of Western-Europe
Preconceived notions of Western European forms of kinship and societal relations influence
anthropological studies of kinship in different cultures (Schneider). Morgan theorized that a sexual
relationship between female and male constituted marriage. In addition to this, Morgan considered
the biological reproductionof offspring the key determinant in kinship classification as parents of
said offspring. This paradigm has influenced the viewpoint of anthropologists studying other forms
of kinship in different cultures. Rather than examining what kinship is to those being studied,
anthropologists attempt to classify it into familiar categories. Two ethnographies that attempt
eliminate this Western European bias are Biology Unmoored by Sandra Bamford and Sport of
Kings by Rebecca Cassidy. Biology Unmoored examines the Kamea, an indigenous people of the
Papa New Guinea Highlands. The Kamea do not solely base kinship on reproduction; rather,
kinship and societal relations are based on the humanrelationship with the plant environment. Using
the viewpoint of the Kamea, Bamford analyzes the biological paradigm proposed by Morgan, which
has influenced many anthropological studies. In the ethnography Sport of Kings Rebecca Cassidy
examines the British racing industry in Newmarket, the international headquarters of horseracing.
Cassidy claims that by analyzing the relationship between humans and animals we may better
understand kinship and social relations between humans. By

Young Adults Are Uneducated About Body Piercings and Tattoos
For centuries human have pierced or tattooed their bodies for cultural or religious reasons, but
over time tattoos and piercings have developed into a way where younger and older generation

Tattoo ink is made by two things fluid carrier and a colorant. A fluid carrier like water, witch

Tattoo colorants are dyes that have to reach with the surface of the skin to stay in place (Wood

Threat of New Entry
Because the retail grocery market is typically low margin, typically in the mid single digit range
.(VALUELINE, 2013) It is critical for companies to have some type of cost advantage over peers,
the larger chains may be able to obtain better and cheaper access to products than the independent
stores(economies of scale). Labor is also a significant cost to retail grocers, representing 50% to
53% of total operating costs (EHOW, 2013). Other operating costs (including rent, utilities,
transportation, and technology) are controllable by the company. Lastly, technology costs are key
in the retail grocery industry in order to increase efficiency in operations and aid marketing aids.
Point of sale systems can help to increase inventory turnover and sales and lead to better targeted
customer marketing (COUNTERPOINTPOS, 2013)
Other areas that affect new entry into a market include capital requirements, economies of scale,
and brand identity. All of these factors have been discussed to some degree under other forces.
Retaliation by incumbent competitors is an important element in determining the threat of new
entry. Specifically, Whole Foods faces a threat from conventional supermarkets and mass
merchandisers who may move to carry organic products within their stores.

Rock And Roll In The 1950s
1950 s
Introduction
The 1950s was largely dominated by Rock and Roll as the Rock and Roll era had emerged. This
Genre of music developed from other styles of music such as country, Jazz, and gospel.
One Reason for the sudden emergence of Rock and Roll was because of the likes of Elvis Presley,
Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and other Rock and Roll icons that have transformed music, as we know
it.
Pioneer of Rock and Roll
During the early 50s, many artists were coming out with there own Rock and Roll songs making
it difficult for us to identify who was the pioneer of Rock and Roll. Today most people think of
Elvis Presley when they hear Rock and Roll however the very first Rock and Roll hit was called
Rock around the Clock by Bill Haley and his Comets. This song released in 1955 was considered
to be the first international hit that spread to millions across the globe, but it wasn t the first Rock
song written. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference between these two early Rock songs is that with more knowledge about the genre
Rock around the Clock grabbed a larger audience. What made it an international hit is what makes
most rock songs today a hit. A mix of different instruments such as the saxophone, drums and the
guitar, and although the lyrics are repetitive, it s almost like they become hypnotic to the listener.
Culture Although its true that Rock and Roll was developed from other styles of music but it

Pros And Cons Of The Nafta
The NAFTA is a trade and investment agreement agreed in 1992 by the United States, Mexico and
Canada and came into force in 1994 with the aim of promoting free trade and investments in the
North American Region. From this date, the NAFTA has been one of the most criticized
agreements in bases of the inequality represented by it. First of all, the agreement was signed
among three nations, which are in a different economic status. Specifically Mexicocomes to be far
to reach the level of development of the USA and Canada, and nevertheless is being regulated under
the same agreement. Besides its clear inequality, the agreement also possesses one of the most
complex ISDS provisions. These provisions have resulted on a pattern for further treaties

1.) Introduction
This case analysis looks at the two primary problems at the receiving plant no. 1 (RP 1) faced by
National Cranberry Cooperative during the cranberry harvesting period, viz. 1) too much waiting
period for trucks before they unload berries at the RP1 and 2) too much overtime costs. There is
also a secondary problem regarding grading of process berries. Half of the berries graded top

the various other implications of this step should be taken into account like increased final
processing cost and resentment from the farmers.
5.) Decreasing the truck waiting time
The main problem that the receiving plant is facing is that the trucks have to wait a lot particularly
in the peak season before they can unload the berries. This cope up with the problem the
cooperative installed an additional Kiwanee Dumper last year (i.e. 1969) but that didn t help in
solving the problem.
We first analyze the average truck waiting time for the next year with present capacities and
assuming 70% to be wet berries and rest dry.
As the wet berry processing would take lesser time if it bulk packed, we assume that during the
peak season the wet berries are only bulk packed and dry berries are bag packed.
Assuming a berry arrival of 18,000 bbl in a day (7am to 7pm) in the peak season at a constant rate
and , the average wet berry arrival rate would be (18000/12) * (70/100) = 1050 bbls per day and
dry berry arrival rate would be 450 bbls per day.
.
With the processing starting at 11 am , the holding bins will continue to be filled at this rate
subject to the maximum capacities for wet berries (3200 bbls) and dry berries (4000 bbls). The
bins capable of holding wet berries would be

Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth Analysis Essay
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for a Doomed Youth is exactly that, an anthem ( a solemn song) to
commemorate the innocent youth, whose lives were taken to soon by war. By using the word
anthem, he calls to mind the glory and honor of a national anthem, however; he goes on to explain
that there is no honor or glory in death, pairing the words doomed and youth together creates so
much sorrow as well, it provides a woeful impression as it foretells of young people having no
hope. Written in sonnetform, it is an elegy for the dead. The octave deals with auditory images of
war and death and the sestet deals with more visual images. Wilfred Owen masterfully uses both
imagery and figurative language to convey his lament for these young people who died.... Show

Owen gives the sonnet a powerful, negative connotation from the very beginning. He implies with
this phrase a dehumanization of the soldiers as well as the fact that war causes human beings to
treat each other as less than human. In line three, the reader can hear the sound imagery of the
stuttering rifles rapid rattle . The word anger in line 2 also emphasizes the destructive hatred of
war. Choirs of wailing shells is a powerful metaphor in line 7 contrasting the world of war and the
world of God.
For the rest of the poem various religious images abound. For example, the word candles would
call to mind the church candles, but they also mean the candles lit in rooms where coffins lie.
Holy glimmers of goodbyes (line 9) combines religious imagery with the idea of death. In the
pallor half rhyme of line 11, these two words combine in one line to show the seriousness of the
situation. Young people are dying in war, and it is tragic. The flowers of line 11 are also a
double edged sword. Flowers are given on very happy, momentous occasions, but they are also in
abundance at solemn occasions like funerals. Furthermore, Owen compares the events of war to
traditional burial rituals and describes how those who die in war do not receive proper funerals. In
the first stanza, Owen references the monstrous anger of guns to passing bells and rifles rapid rattle
to hasty orisons . Usually

A Day in the Life of a Dj
Have you ever wondered as you were driving down the road listening to the radio, How do they
do that? I certainly have, and so for my junior job shadow experience I chose to shadow Mike
Shannon from 99.7 WDJX, a very popular radio personality in Louisville, Kentucky. I chose to
shadow him because I was interested in how DJs do their job and how a radio station is run. I
thought that the job would be fun, exciting, and I thought it would be interesting. Going in to the
Radio station I already knew that it was probably a high stress job and that on occasion it was
very exciting. Some of the questions I had going into the situation were, what kind of history is

Self employed DJs usually pay for everything themselves. Some DJs become well known among
the community and are asked to make public appearances around the community. Most DJs that
are well know are the charismatic ones who are wild and crazy on air. Which leads me to my
next question I had what kind of personality do you need to be a radio personality and what is
the environment like? DJs are always trying to please the people. If people don t listen to you
the ratings go down. When I asked Mike what kind of personality is needed he responded by
saying, The person needs to be positive and outgoing. Also you need to be very patient with
people who call in because not everyone is going to be nice and happy when they call in. So you
need to be able to hold back rude comments you might want to say to them. (Mike) DJs must be
able to multitask and between watching the clock, choosing music, answering the phones, reading
reports, entertaining guests and the audience. Again everything is about timing. DJs are required
to plan ahead and be able to keep up with everything that is going on. They must be able to play
the next song or commercial on time. It can be difficult to keep up but once you do it for awhile it
gets easier. Working at a radio station can be fun but stressful at the same time. Dust and
temperature control are very important parts of keeping the equipment running and in good
condition. DJs may not always have jobs either, especially

Major Life Choices
In The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, Robert Frost depicts the
weighing of major life decisions. In The Road Not taken the speaker find himself in a dilemma
where has to choose between two roads, and decides to take the less traveled one to deal with.
While in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker has to choose between two different
worlds and seeks for one that can offer him a life out of the ordinary. Robert Frostuses nature to
portray that in both poems depict the situation of making life choices.
In The Road Not Taken, the speaker needs to settle on a major choiceand decide upon a certain life
approach. The road is a metaphor of the decision the speaker makes. As the speaker considers his
choices, he feels that whichever road he takes will be a good choice; keeping in mind that the
choice he decides to make will have changes and consequences. The speaker considering his
ideas carefully says, And looked down as far as I could / To where it bent in the undergrowth,
(lines 4 5) he starts to feels sorry that he can not take both roads and starts to contemplate the two

The second barrier standing in the way of the process of obtaining professional and vocational

The authors of the article argue that one of the ways to overcome the first and second barriers
could be the involvement of team project work of school and university students. In line with this
suggestion, N.A. Lukianova directed a project in autumn 2016, at TPU whereby a team of students

Of The Melting Point Of Benzoic Acid And Erlenmeyer Fask
Introduction Solid substances that contain impurities may be purified in a series of steps. The
process known as recrystallization allowed for purification to occur. The solubility and melting
point of the substances are accounted for certain substances to be dissolved in certain solvents. The
melting point is a certain temperature at which a given substance, in this case a solid, is melted. The
melting pointof benzoic acid and naphthalene in this experiment are needed to understand at which
temperature the substances are purified. The meltingpoints were denoted in ranges that explained at
which points the substance began to melt, and were completely melted. In relation, the melting
points of certain substances noted, aided in the selection of which solvents were used. The
solvents used were selected in terms that the substance completely will dissolve; however, the
impurity is particularly insoluble to that same solvent, for the pure crystals to be collected.
Benzoic acid was dissolved in water, being the solvent, because the solubility is higher at higher
temperatures. The same goes for naphthalene being dissolved in ethanol. These concepts allowed
the process of recrystallization to occur if followed, resulting in the products of purified crystals.

Analyzing The Movie The Magnificent Seven
A good majority of us have seen Old westerns before. We ve grown to love and know them so
well. They are relics of how life was in the old west and even more show what we think the old
west should be life. The revitalized western movie The Magnificent Seven is only a remake that
shows you everything you love about a western movie, it does not reinvent or add anything special
to the genre.
Usually in a remake movie with up to date actors and even better special effects and editing skills
you would think that it makes the movie better. I ve come to realize now that the old movies we
ve all come to love cannot be made with the same magic a second time. They were for their time
and you lose something when you remake it. For this movie the only thing significantly better was
the camera resolution. Everything else seems to be the same. Especially the epic final battle or in a

writings. A flaneur is the casual wanderer observer and reporter of street life in the modern city. In
the twentieth century Walter Benjaminreturned to the concept of the flaneur with his work The
Arcades Project. In The Arcades Project, Benjamin puts forward two complementary concepts to
explain human response to modern city life. Erlebnis and Erfahrung. The city walker can be
understood as an analogy with the flaneur. There are two kinds of spaces: geographical spaces
and time spaces. Characters travel to spaces and places and become the stranger flaneur and his

The Premier Artists Of The Italian High Renaissance
To start with, it seems important for me to define the concept artistic genius , which sheds the light
upon the mission any craftsman is going to manage. As far as I understood, the genius is the natural
talent or the outstanding skill, which allows the individual to perceive the objects and phenomena
of the everyday reality in the unconventional way. At the same time, the word artistic implies the
connection to any form of art: drawing, painting, sculpture and so on. All together, the artistic

Moreover, the work of art has been considered as the result of the marvellous and hard labor rather

Review on How the Amygdala s Emotional Function can Affect Sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a relevant common mental disorder as it may affect
approximately 2 3% of the population at any point (Green, 2003). There are numerous literatures on
how a capacious amount of traumatic stress can affect the function of the brain, as the
remembrance of a traumatic experience can affect attention and memory in the present which may
lead to present day harm (Van der Kolk, 2006). Approximately thirty percent of individuals can
develop PTSD following a traumatic event, however, certain events have higher rates (such as

Johnson et al (2012) claims that the pathology of PTSD, is the natural response of threat reaction
is heightened and fails to decrease and thus becomes an issue to an individual s psychological and
physical well being. This follows on from Van der Kolk (2006) who stated that regions in the brain
that accesses the memory of an event also supports intense emotion which affects sensory and
motor functions within the Central Nervous System (CNS). This literature suggests that although
PTSD is classed as anxiety, it is the memory involvement in which causes the physical stress
reaction.
Praag (2004) theorised that a sufferer of PTSD cannot easily erase memories of a certain stressful
trauma. This follows on from Liberzon et al s (1999) study that the repetitious memory recall of a
traumatic episode is a symptom of PTSD. This dysfunction of Memory involves certain brain
regions, including the amygdaloidal complex and hippocampal formation. In Liberzon et al s study
on 11 control subjects and 14 combat veterans diagnosed with PTSD, placing them in stressful
situations using a single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) machine found
activation in the left amygdala on the PTSD sufferers but not with the control subjects. This
suggests that the amygdala responds to unpleasant stimuli in individuals suffering with memories of
a past traumatic episode. Other brain imaging studies have found a link between encoding

Forests cover 31 percent of total land in Minnesota, with 15.9 million acres classified as

timber is harvested for several different purposes, including pulp and paper production as well as
lumber for housing. Among these trees, the Aspen species dominates the market with 61 percent
of Minnesota s total timberland cover. Private owners control 47 percent of the total timberland
in Minnesota. The remaining 53 comes from a combination of federal, state, and local
governments (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources 2012). According to the von Thunen
model, timber would have to be in close proximity to a market in order to provide fuel for
populations. In a modern perspective, however, timber forests, both private and state owned are
isolated away from society in areas with sparse populations. Thus, forests and timberland may
now be considered wilderness and potentially agree with the von Thunen model, as they exist far
from the confines of the city center. According to the University of Minnesota land economics
dataset, timberland values in closer proximity to the St. Paul Minneapolis metropolitan area,
specifically in Atkin County eclipse those of St. Louis County to the north. St. Louis County s
timberland is priced at $1,039 per acre, while Atkin County is priced at $1,329 per acre. Each of
these counties hold large amounts of timberland acreage, but Atkin may hold an advantage in land
prices due to its location closer to the city center. Another factor that may contribute to this
difference in land prices is the relative abundance in acreage and size of St. Louis County in
comparison to Atkin. Sparse population density and a larger number of trees in the area would

Significance of Problem
A few years ago, you told me about a woman from your church who was homeschooling her
daughter through college via online classes. You were fascinated because you had thought it wasn t
possible to homeschool your children after high school. Your interest grew as you learned about
online universities such as the University of Phoenix or physical universities offering online degree
programs such as Liberty University. Nowadays, three of your children are in college, and

Summary Of Dandelion Wine
An excerpt from the book, Dandelion Wine , was written by Ray Bradbury and published in
1957. The story takes place in the small town of Green Town where a serial killer, The Lonely
One, remains at large. The main character, Lavinia Nebbs and her friends try to cope with the
discovery of Elizabeth Ramsell s body on their way to see a Charlie Chaplin film. Lavinia
appears to be the only one not shaken up by the horrible news, and after finding out that a
conspicuous man is inquisitive about Lavinia, the ladies appear to be on edge. Lavinia struggles to
control her fear at the very end of the story when she suspects that she is being followed by a
figure, and the story ends when she arrives home only to find that there is a man in her house. In
stressful situations, fear naturally changes the entire perspective of the situation, and is ultimately
inevitable. Dandelion Wineis best analyzed from the psychological approach because of how fear
altered the character s perspective which enhanced the setting of the story.
The ravine that runs through Green Town is an important geographical factor of the story since it
is the place where the Lonely One hid Elizabeth Ramsell s body. Ray Bradbury also uses the ravine
to echo Lavinia s perception of it before and after her fear of the Lonely One was revealed. On
page two is states, Lavinia looked and the ravine was a dynamo that never stopped running, night or
day; there was a great moving hum, a bumbling and murmuring of

Kenya Safari Questions And Answers
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
If you are about to travel to Kenya for the first time, you will probably have all sorts of questions.
We have compiled a list of questions (and answers!) we get asked every day by our guests. If your
question is not listed below please contact (Link) us and we ll get back to you as soon as we can.
Why Should you choose a Kenya Safari? Why travel to Masai Mara?
Kenya has some of Africa s finest national parks, offering one of the best and most accessible game
viewing in the world, including the hard to resist attraction of the Big Five (Link). The country also
offers a breathtaking natural beauty. From the snow capped mountains, white sandy beaches to the
deep Rift Valley with its extinct volcanoes, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For your own safety, do not hang your hand outside the window during the game drive.
What type of language should I take?
When travelling on safari, baggage should be kept to a minimum since you will be using a
chartered aircraft from Nairobi to Masai Mara. This should be in soft duffle bags as opposed to
hard suitcases in order to fit in the baggage compartment on small aircraft. Most internal flights
allow a limit up to 15Kg (33 lbs) of luggage. On road safaris, the weight and size allowance is not
as important but you should still try to travel light. Please read your itinerary carefully and pack
accordingly. See more details on our recommended Packing List (Link).
Do mobile/cell phones work on safari?
Yes, there is an extensive mobile (cell) phone service coverage throughout the country. Before
traveling, we suggest you contact your local provider regarding International use of your mobile
device. Since most people come on safari to get away from the outside world, we feel that we
must set some limitations to the use of these phones in our camps and on safari. If you use your
phone during your safari please respect other guests and do not use the phone during game drives
or while within the camp s common areas such as the

The Leadership Of A Successful Team
Administration sets the tone and time for collaboration. It is imperative for school to have
educators and staff to work in collaborative teams. The common goal is student achievement.
Through respect and partnership the fulfillment can be endless. This year I was invited to be the
Positive Behavioral Support Internal Coach for my K 8 school. I accepted and quickly learned
that collaboration and organization are key components to a successful team. At first, the focus
should be members of the team or group. Asking for volunteer is a great way to get started. People
are more apt to commit and put the effort into the cause when they want to be there; however,
administration may appoint or suggest people because of their insight to... Show more content on

I am in favor of a democratic way for decisions making; therefore I would expect cooperation in
any resolution. During the course of one of my PBS meetings, a goal was determining the
requirements for students to attend a PBS celebration. In a prior meeting each of the members
had a 1 2 minutes to express their concerns about PBS being just for behavior, failing grades may
not be a behavior in elementary grades, but may be in middle school. The task for each member
was to discuss it with their grade levels and come back ready to vote. At the next meeting we
voted on three choices, only office discipline referrals, office discipline referrals and failing
grades of only middle school students, office discipline referrals and failing grades for the K 8th
grade. The vote came to 7 to 1 that students could not have office discipline referral and could not
fail (59.4% or below) a core class. During a staff meeting for PBS implementation and data review,
other staff members didn t not agree with the requirements, but through the PBS team we had
democratic evidence that it was a collaborative effort of the team. Other teams, committees and task
forces work should work in the same manner. There are grade level teams that should be discussing
standards that can be crossed within curriculum. Department teams should be vertically planning to
account for deficiencies within the standard progression. For example, in a PLC we discussed

Immigrants During The 1920s
During the 1920s, the United States was a tense era. The influx of immigrants caused fear and
bigotry, especially towards the Roman Catholic religion (Holsinger, 1968). The citizens of the State
of Oregon labeled immigrants as un American, claiming that the immigrants would inject
unpatriotic practices into the culture. The citizenry professed to protect American principles of the
time and intended to pass on their values to the youth through public school education. Their goal
was to provide parallel education to all children, thus controlling the content taught. Furthermore,
Oregon was under the watchful eye of the powerful Ku Klux Klan (KKK), which enforced radical
patriotism. Case Summary The premise of this lawsuit was to oppose

Hannah Baker s Repercussions In 13 Reasons Why
People have to be more aware of the repercussions of their actions (Joe Perry). The things people
do will always have its consequences. If one does bad to others there is always an equal response.
The theme of repercussions is prevalent throughout the novel 13 Reasons Why . Each tape gave a
different reason as to why the protagonist Hannah Baker committed suicide. Hannah constantly
reminds the thirteen people of how their actions had a pervasive effect on her life. The novelbegins
with Hannah baker committing suicide. There is a young man by the name of Clay Jensen who

  • 2. The Relationship Between Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy ( Dmd ) The ability to walk is something that our society seems to take for granted. A neuromuscular disease can take that ability away instantly. As with any neuromuscular disease, the body s muscles are specifically attacked. Normally that attack is caused by a lack or mutation of a specific gene. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy(DMD) has a direct relationship with a lack of dystrophin synthesis. It is possible that the dystrophin synthesis can be increased by manipulation of microRNA 31. When looking at a potential therapy or cure, it is important to recognize exactly how the disease affects the body. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is one of the most severe myopathies, or musclediseases (Cacchiarelli et al). To be diagnosed with DMD, a patient must have a mutation in the dystrophin gene present (Muscular Dystrophy Association). Moreover, that mutation in the gene is what causes the lack of dystrophin synthesis. Dystrophin is protein in the body that keeps the muscles intact (Muscular Dystrophy Association). Therefore, a lack of dystrophin causes the muscles to deteriorate; which is identified as dystrophy. When the body lacks strong healthy muscle, it does not only become weak; the body itself begins to shut down. Our organs depend on the muscles that allow us to walk, eat, and breathe to provide energy, nutrients, and oxygen. For this reason, DMD eventually leads to a short life. Due to the genetic attributions of DMD, there are specific demographics affected normally. DMD ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What does increasing corporate power have on social, political, and/or environmental factors? Who has the most power? Governments, consumers or corporations? Perhaps the question that should be asked is who should have the most power. The obvious answer would be consumers and the government. Although in a perfect world this may be the case but in reality this is far from the truth. It is nor do the governments or the consumers who has the most power but rather the corporations. Over the past four decades, a shift in power has been taking place, out from the hand citizens and the nations and into the hands of the Multi National corporations (MNCs). This essay will focus on the unparalleled growth of corporate power and the effects of corporate power on Africa in terms of social, political and environmental factors. The rise in corporate power cannot be seen more vividly than in Africa. Over the past four decades, corporate social responsibilities of multinational corporations operating in Africa has been one of the most prominent issues in the world. The rise in potency of multinationals owes its existence to the natural riches of Sub Saharan African nations. These African nations are characterised by high inflation rates, poverty and diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS. His tanned skin was drawn attractively tight on his face and his short hair looked as though it were trimmed everyday. I could see nothing sinister about him. I wondered if the fact that he was not drinking helped to set him off from his guests, for it seemed to me that he grew more correct as the fraternal hilarity increased. (pg 50). Her story is only until her 11th week of her pregnancy, but she may feel many symptoms throughout the rest of her pregnancy if it is not aborted. Those symptoms could be increased urination because the kidneys are disposing of fetal metabolic waste as well as her own. • 12. Elasticity In The Miller s Tale By Geoffrey Chaucer Henri Bergson s theory states that tension and elasticity are required in social life to adapt to the ever changing situations. Someone who is severely deficient in elasticity and tension will be denied access to society either by isolation or hospitalization. For someone that is slightly deficient or has a minor slip in elasticity or tension, the penalty will be laughter. According to Henri Bergson, the perception of mechanical inelasticity engenders laughter and is the basis of the comic. This inelasticity is clearly demonstrated in The Miller s tale by Geoffrey Chaucer with John and Absalon being the main targets of the ridicule, Nicholas becomes a target towards the end of the tale. Chaucer s characterization of those personages attitudes and behavior support Bergson s theory of mechanical inelasticity. First of all, John the carpenter, during the whole story, is a victim of the ridicule. Nicholas who thinks he can ridicule Absalon even more by doing the same thing gets burned by him. Nicholas for the first time lacks awareness and fails to adapt and is therefore rigid. Preconceived Notions of Western-Europe Preconceived notions of Western European forms of kinship and societal relations influence anthropological studies of kinship in different cultures (Schneider). Morgan theorized that a sexual relationship between female and male constituted marriage. In addition to this, Morgan considered the biological reproductionof offspring the key determinant in kinship classification as parents of said offspring. This paradigm has influenced the viewpoint of anthropologists studying other forms of kinship in different cultures. Rather than examining what kinship is to those being studied, anthropologists attempt to classify it into familiar categories. Two ethnographies that attempt eliminate this Western European bias are Biology Unmoored by Sandra Bamford and Sport of Kings by Rebecca Cassidy. Biology Unmoored examines the Kamea, an indigenous people of the Papa New Guinea Highlands. The Kamea do not solely base kinship on reproduction; rather, kinship and societal relations are based on the humanrelationship with the plant environment. Using the viewpoint of the Kamea, Bamford analyzes the biological paradigm proposed by Morgan, which has influenced many anthropological studies. Decreasing the truck waiting time The main problem that the receiving plant is facing is that the trucks have to wait a lot particularly in the peak season before they can unload the berries. This cope up with the problem the cooperative installed an additional Kiwanee Dumper last year (i.e. 1969) but that didn t help in solving the problem. We first analyze the average truck waiting time for the next year with present capacities and assuming 70% to be wet berries and rest dry. As the wet berry processing would take lesser time if it bulk packed, we assume that during the peak season the wet berries are only bulk packed and dry berries are bag packed. Assuming a berry arrival of 18,000 bbl in a day (7am to 7pm) in the peak season at a constant rate and , the average wet berry arrival rate would be (18000/12) * (70/100) = 1050 bbls per day and dry berry arrival rate would be 450 bbls per day. . With the processing starting at 11 am , the holding bins will continue to be filled at this rate subject to the maximum capacities for wet berries (3200 bbls) and dry berries (4000 bbls). Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth Analysis Essay Wilfred Owen s Anthem for a Doomed Youth is exactly that, an anthem ( a solemn song) to commemorate the innocent youth, whose lives were taken to soon by war. By using the word anthem, he calls to mind the glory and honor of a national anthem, however; he goes on to explain that there is no honor or glory in death, pairing the words doomed and youth together creates so much sorrow as well, it provides a woeful impression as it foretells of young people having no hope. Written in sonnetform, it is an elegy for the dead. The octave deals with auditory images of war and death and the sestet deals with more visual images. Wilfred Owen masterfully uses both imagery and figurative language to convey his lament for these young people who died.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Owen gives the sonnet a powerful, negative connotation from the very beginning. He implies with this phrase a dehumanization of the soldiers as well as the fact that war causes human beings to treat each other as less than human. In line three, the reader can hear the sound imagery of the stuttering rifles rapid rattle . The word anger in line 2 also emphasizes the destructive hatred of war. Choirs of wailing shells is a powerful metaphor in line 7 contrasting the world of war and the world of God. For the rest of the poem various religious images abound. For example, the word candles would call to mind the church candles, but they also mean the candles lit in rooms where coffins lie. Holy glimmers of goodbyes (line 9) combines religious imagery with the idea of death. In the pallor half rhyme of line 11, these two words combine in one line to show the seriousness of the situation. Young people are dying in war, and it is tragic. The flowers of line 11 are also a double edged sword. Flowers are given on very happy, momentous occasions, but they are also in abundance at solemn occasions like funerals. Furthermore, Owen compares the events of war to traditional burial rituals and describes how those who die in war do not receive proper funerals. In the first stanza, Owen references the monstrous anger of guns to passing bells and rifles rapid rattle to hasty orisons . Usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The process known as recrystallization allowed for purification to occur. The solubility and melting point of the substances are accounted for certain substances to be dissolved in certain solvents. The melting point is a certain temperature at which a given substance, in this case a solid, is melted. The melting pointof benzoic acid and naphthalene in this experiment are needed to understand at which temperature the substances are purified. The meltingpoints were denoted in ranges that explained at which points the substance began to melt, and were completely melted. In relation, the melting points of certain substances noted, aided in the selection of which solvents were used. The solvents used were selected in terms that the substance completely will dissolve; however, the impurity is particularly insoluble to that same solvent, for the pure crystals to be collected. Benzoic acid was dissolved in water, being the solvent, because the solubility is higher at higher temperatures. The same goes for naphthalene being dissolved in ethanol. These concepts allowed the process of recrystallization to occur if followed, resulting in the products of purified crystals. The story takes place in the small town of Green Town where a serial killer, The Lonely One, remains at large. The main character, Lavinia Nebbs and her friends try to cope with the discovery of Elizabeth Ramsell s body on their way to see a Charlie Chaplin film. Lavinia appears to be the only one not shaken up by the horrible news, and after finding out that a conspicuous man is inquisitive about Lavinia, the ladies appear to be on edge. Lavinia struggles to control her fear at the very end of the story when she suspects that she is being followed by a figure, and the story ends when she arrives home only to find that there is a man in her house. In stressful situations, fear naturally changes the entire perspective of the situation, and is ultimately inevitable. Dandelion Wineis best analyzed from the psychological approach because of how fear altered the character s perspective which enhanced the setting of the story. The ravine that runs through Green Town is an important geographical factor of the story since it is the place where the Lonely One hid Elizabeth Ramsell s body. Ray Bradbury also uses the ravine to echo Lavinia s perception of it before and after her fear of the Lonely One was revealed. On page two is states, Lavinia looked and the ravine was a dynamo that never stopped running, night or day; there was a great moving hum, a bumbling and murmuring of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For your own safety, do not hang your hand outside the window during the game drive. What type of language should I take? When travelling on safari, baggage should be kept to a minimum since you will be using a chartered aircraft from Nairobi to Masai Mara. This should be in soft duffle bags as opposed to hard suitcases in order to fit in the baggage compartment on small aircraft. Most internal flights allow a limit up to 15Kg (33 lbs) of luggage. On road safaris, the weight and size allowance is not as important but you should still try to travel light. Please read your itinerary carefully and pack accordingly. See more details on our recommended Packing List (Link). Do mobile/cell phones work on safari? Yes, there is an extensive mobile (cell) phone service coverage throughout the country. Before traveling, we suggest you contact your local provider regarding International use of your mobile device. Since most people come on safari to get away from the outside world, we feel that we must set some limitations to the use of these phones in our camps and on safari. If you use your phone during your safari please respect other guests and do not use the phone during game drives or while within the camp s common areas such as the ... • 44. The Leadership Of A Successful Team Administration sets the tone and time for collaboration. It is imperative for school to have educators and staff to work in collaborative teams. The common goal is student achievement. Through respect and partnership the fulfillment can be endless. This year I was invited to be the Positive Behavioral Support Internal Coach for my K 8 school. I accepted and quickly learned that collaboration and organization are key components to a successful team. At first, the focus should be members of the team or group. Asking for volunteer is a great way to get started. People are more apt to commit and put the effort into the cause when they want to be there; however, administration may appoint or suggest people because of their insight to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am in favor of a democratic way for decisions making; therefore I would expect cooperation in any resolution. During the course of one of my PBS meetings, a goal was determining the requirements for students to attend a PBS celebration. In a prior meeting each of the members had a 1 2 minutes to express their concerns about PBS being just for behavior, failing grades may not be a behavior in elementary grades, but may be in middle school. The task for each member was to discuss it with their grade levels and come back ready to vote. At the next meeting we voted on three choices, only office discipline referrals, office discipline referrals and failing grades of only middle school students, office discipline referrals and failing grades for the K 8th grade. The vote came to 7 to 1 that students could not have office discipline referral and could not fail (59.4% or below) a core class. During a staff meeting for PBS implementation and data review, other staff members didn t not agree with the requirements, but through the PBS team we had democratic evidence that it was a collaborative effort of the team. Other teams, committees and task forces work should work in the same manner. There are grade level teams that should be discussing standards that can be crossed within curriculum. Department teams should be vertically planning to account for deficiencies within the standard progression. For example, in a PLC we discussed writing across the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Immigrants During The 1920s During the 1920s, the United States was a tense era. The influx of immigrants caused fear and bigotry, especially towards the Roman Catholic religion (Holsinger, 1968). The citizens of the State of Oregon labeled immigrants as un American, claiming that the immigrants would inject unpatriotic practices into the culture.
