The City of Wilton Manors’ wayfinding program
supports a community redevelopment initiative
managed by the City. In addition to the primary goal
of improving visitor navigation through the City and
to its destinations, the program will help establish
aesthetic features that celebrate the Island City
experience and enhance the region as a vibrant
community and a progressive, class-one destination.
This document represents Avia Design Group’s
design intent. It is a communication device for
prospective bidders to understand the form and
function of elements that make up the system.
This Design Intent document is one of three
companion documents that include the Message
Schedule and the Location Plan. Together, with a
Request for Proposal (RFP,) they constitute the
Bid Documents.
From the Bid Documents, qualified bidders shall
formulate and submit their bid to fabricate, deliver
and install all items required to fulfill the contracted
scope of work as described herein.
All design concepts, production art, written content
and aesthetic format contained in this Design Intent
document are proprietary and are the joint legal
property of the City of Wilton Manors and Avia.
Recipients agree not to use or disclose this material,
or to make copies or use parts thereof, without the
written consent of it’s owners.
This and its companion documents shall be used
by the Sign Contractor to prepare detailed shop
drawings that demonstrate qualified engineering
and fabrication methodology for the successful
implementation of the wayfinding program. Detailed
shop drawings with specification details shall be
submitted to the authorized City’s representative
(Avia) for review and approval prior to proceeding
with fabrication.
The Sign Contractor is responsible for matching
all colors, finishes and materials specified in this
document and is required to provide the City’s
representative with samples for review and approval
prior to full execution.
The Sign Contractor shall be responsible for
verification of all dimensions, engineering, wind load,
foundation compliances and field conditions relative
to the project prior to material order and component
fabrication. The Sign Contractor is responsible
for confirming dig-safe clearances and set-back
requirements.
The City’s representative shall be notified, in writing,
of any contrary conditions or discrepancies in
these documents that may pose challenges for the
successful fabrication and installation of the program.
Alternate materials, products, finishes and proposed
engineering may be considered as long as the
visual design and performance of the system are
not compromised and proposed alternates can be
demonstrated that they are of equal or better quality.
All proposed alternates must be conveyed to the
City’s representative and/or Avia as documented
shop drawings prior to execution.
Please note that visual accuracy of the colors and
finishes represented in this document may not be
consistent with actual manufacturer’s swatches
and samples due to limitations of color printing
technology. The Sign Contractor is required to
appropriate actual color swatches and material
samples from the approved manufacturer.
Templates and production-ready art will be available
for download from the Wilton Manors project web
page. Access information to the project web page
shall be provided upon request.
Production-ready art and templates for each sign
are formatted as either Adobe (CC) Illustrator, Adobe
(CC) InDesign and vectorized PDF files. Each file is
sized as either 100% or 50% of its final form and
includes bleeds, crop marks and other production
guides. In some cases the sign contractor is required
to extrapolate production ready art for individual sign
types using the provided templates and information
provided in the message schedule.
Reconstructed art or digitized versions from printed
copies shall not be used at any time. Only licensed
font families or original electronic files generated by
Avia may be used for application onto signage.
The Sign Contractor shall provide electronic
production layouts of all message panels to the
City’s representative for approval prior to final graphic
application.
Production artwork, graphics, design concepts and
formulas shall be used solely for the execution of the
project represented in this document. They may not
be used in the course of future projects, resold or
reconstituted without the City’s written consent.

3. 4” square aluminum post. Preference is to powder coat but will consider
painting with Matthews Polyurethane Clear Coat Satin Paint, 3M™ as an
option to reduce cost.
4. 1/2” thick aluminum CNC water jet cut letters. Face and edges finished
smooth and acid-washed to remove oils in preparation for applied finish. Pin-
mounted to 1/4” thick aluminum panel substrate. Preference is to powder
coat but will consider painting with Matthews Polyurethane Clear Coat Satin
Paint, 3M™ as an option to reduce cost.

pole and ground smooth. Serves as support for CNC water jet palm tree.
5. 3/8” x 3.5” threaded rod, welded to back of sign panel and fastened with
lock washer and nut through 3” square horizontal support rib.
6. 3” square steel* tube welded to 6” x 6” x 3/8” wall square steel pole.
7. Back side of aluminum panel and exposed edges are painted with Matthews
Polyurethane Satin Paint and coated with a semi-gloss UV clear coat in
compliance with Matthews Paint’s recommended standard. Reinforce
mechanical fasteners by gluing panel to square steel* tube with Lord’s
Adhesive or mounting with 3M 4945 VHB tape at back. Protect against
electrolysis by applying non conductive barrier between steel and aluminum
metals.
8. Maintain 7’-0” from street grade to bottom of vehicular guide signs. Verify
compliance requirements with the governing transportation authorities.

1. 1/8” thick aluminum information medallion. Face and edges finished smooth
and acid-washed to remove oils. Preference is to powder coat but will
as an option to reduce cost. Attach to square tube with threaded pins, stood
away by 1/2”.
2. 1/8” thick aluminum wordmark banner. Face and edges finished smooth and
acid-washed to remove oils. Preference is to powder coat but will consider
option to reduce cost. Attach to square tube with threaded pins, flush.
3. 1/8” thick aluminum panel. Preference is to powder coat all exposed edges
and surfaces that do not receive graphic imagery but will consider painting
reduce cost.
4. 3/8” thick steel* flange, welded to post and powder coated. Preference is
to powder coat but will consider painting with Matthews Polyurethane Clear
5. Nut, washer and lock washer securing base plate to all-thread rod epoxied
into concrete sonotube footer. Leveling nuts placed below base plate.
6. Fill grout, covers gap between plate and concrete sonotube footer.
10. 3/8” Ø threaded rod, epoxied into concrete footer.
11. Bevel head, self tapping machine screws. Secures steel* angle to 4” square
steel* post.
12. 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” steel* angle
13. 3000 PSI concrete footer. Fabricator to engineer.
*NOTE:
structurally sound.
