Short Answer Questions On Life Policy
Short Answer Questions Question 1 Rod and Trudi, both aged 35, are married and have two
children aged 8 and 5. Outline the possible advantages of them taking out a whole of life policy
to cover their family s financial protection needs, in preference to a level term assurance There
are key benefits that Rod and Trudi would receive if they took out a whole of life policy as
opposed to a level term assurance policy: Because life assurance companies know that they will
have to pay out at some stage on a whole of life policy, premiums are used to build up a reserve,
to be paid out when death occurs. If the policy is surrendered while the lives assured are still
alive, a surrender value can be available. This value could be used to fund a number of family
needs, such as future education costs. Term assurance is only payable if death occurs, which
means there will be no value in cash should the policy be stopped. A whole of life policy has no
term, which means that as long as the premiums are maintained, the policy will be in place until
the policyholder s death, whenever that occurs. This is important for Rod and Trudi, because
although life assurance protection is particularly important while the children are growing up, there
will probably be a need for permanent life cover continuing beyond that. Term assurance on the
other hand, only runs for a set term of years. This means that there would be no life assurance
protection if death occurred after the policy

Essay on Genocide in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo, a.k.a. the DRC, or more commonly the Congo , has
experienced an endless nightmare of violence, poverty, famine, sickness, and murder for the past
16 years. The constant bloodshed between the national and armed forces has led to countless
civilian deaths, or the genocide in the Congo. Before I go on any further, I must explain what a
genocide is. A genocide is the attempted destruction of an entire group of people. The most
famous example is the Holocaust in which 6 million Jews were murdered during World War II. It
is tragic to say that history has repeated itself and over 5 to 7 million Congolese civilians have lost
their lives since 1996. In order to truly understand the events that are transpiring... Show more

The war lasted for 5 years and took place entirely in the Congo, resulting in the deaths of 5
million Congolese civilians, most to to starvation or sickness (BBC News). The Congo never
recovered, and to this day, Eastern Congo is unstable (BBC News). In 2001, Kabila was
assassinated, leading to him being replaced by his son Joseph Kabila (ECI). According to the
Eastern Congo Initiative, the Congo held its first democratic elections in 2006, with Kabila
being elected. At the same time, however, multiple armed groups gained power and began
fighting over control of mineral resources in the Eastern Congo, resulting in more civilian lives.
To this day they still continue to fight, and despite multiple peace treaties, the violence does not
end (ECI). At these moments, life in the Congo is a living nightmare. The eastern provinces of
the Congo see violence every day. Women are getting raped at alarming rates. Children are
constantly abused and forced to become child soldiers. There are no sources of medicine or
even clean water. Anyone can get murdered at any time, and no one is even safe in their own
homes. According to ICRtoP, the Democratic Republic of Congo is reported to be the rape
capital of the world with an estimated 15,000 rape cases in the Congo s eastern provinces alone.
Rape is a tool of war used by the various armed forces in the Congo in order to create instability in

The Day Of The World
Every single person is frightened of death, or has a fear of being left behind. Death of a person is
very terrifying, yet the end of humanity and universe is not even imaginable. Humankind has been
wondering how and when will the Earth end for thousands of years, to be prepared spiritually and
religiously or just to decide whether to spend all the money that a person has or enjoy the life more.
Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing
concepts. Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop
worrying because they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the
people who believes humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to
environment directly, hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the
environment. Universe is the place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is
the time many religions accept that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about
end of the world can be separated into three groups which are the end by the human based
problems, physical destruction of universe and the order of God. Although the human based
damages on the Earth are getting more and more serious and physical collapse of universe makes
sense scientifically, the decision of ending the world will only be in the hands of the owner of
everything, the God, not the humankind.
To begin with, humankind

The Black Panther Party
The Black Panthers
The Black Panther Party is a self defense, African American revolutionary party. This party was
founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale during the 1960 s. This party
was dedicated to combating white oppression, and did so by the use of both peaceful and violent
actions. Looking back at the history of the Black Panthers, it can be clearly seen that the peaceful
idea of equality for all spawned this group and their violent actions for the main reason that they
were willing to do anything to defend their beliefs.
One of the greatest reasons for the violent actions of the party, should be credited to the co
founder named Huey Newton. Huey Newton was a rebellious individual who was suspected of
committing many crimes. As minister of defense within the party, Huey was seen as a leader to
the members of the organization. In an interview with Newton, he made clear what he wanted the
party to stand for, and what they needed to do to achieve this. In an excerpt from the interview
transcript, he says that there are two kinds of nationalism, revolutionary and reactionary
nationalism. Revolutionary nationalism is first dependent upon a People s revolution with the end
goal being the people in power... If you are a reactionary nationalist you are not a socialist and
your end goal is the oppression of the people. (Newton 1). From this transcript, it can be inferred
what kind of nationalism Huey wants the party to follow. He wants the people to gain power
through the use of violence And extremism. As the interview continues, Huey states the views of
the Black Panther Party by saying The Black Panther Party, which is a revolutionary group of
black people, realizes that we have an identity. We have to realize our black heritage in order to
give us strength to move on and progress (Newton 1). By saying this, Huey is announcing to the
world that the Black Panthers are going to cause a dramatic change, and implies that they will do
whatever is necessary as long as they have the strength. The cause for violence from peaceful ideas
is largely due to the leadership. The minister of Education George Murray made many speeches that
supported the violent actions, and encouraged them. Within

Powerful Women In The Odyssey
Power is a curious concept that most people have or understand. When women experience power
and strength it is incredible and unique. In The Odyssey by Homer, there are a lot of powerful,
strong women. Women in this poem are tough, strong willed and are treated with the respect and
seriousness they deserve. (Bartleby 1). In this quote, it is talking about how women were treated
well, but in reality women were treated like wasted space. As Homer writes about women, they
seemed to be smarter than the men. The women know what to do, how to do it, and most
importantly listen to what other people say. When Hermes tells Calypso to let Odysseus go, she
obeyed. She knew if she would have ignored the gods, there would have been consequences. The
men in this book aren t very good listeners. When, Odysseus told his men not to eat the sun cattle,
they didn t listen and they payed for it with their lives. This is one of the many reasons Homer
seems like a feminist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Penelope has more power than she thinks and it s not just her wit. She has power over her
husband even when they re not together. He loves her so much, which makes her able to have
power over him. Penelope is also very smart. She knows how to trick the suitors. She would
weave Laertes shroud all throughout the day and then at night she would unravel all the work
she did. She kept this charade up for three years, until a servant told the suitors what was going
on. The point of her doing this was to give Odysseus more time to come home, but she knows she
can only hold them off for so long. Homer show s Penelope s power through her wit and Odysseus

Acadian Natives
Acadians are the descendants of a group of French speaking settlers who migrated from coastal
France in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime
provinces of Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the mid
sixteenth century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisianaand are
popularly known as Cajuns.
Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces
of Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou a region that suffered great hardships in the late
sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a
series of religious wars between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France
ripened, more than 10,000 people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604
known as La Cadie or Acadia. The area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick,
Prince Edward Island, and part of Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America.
The Company of New France recruited colonists from coastal France as indentured servants.
Fishermen, farmers, and trappers served for five years to repay the company with their labor for
the transportation and materials it had provided. In the New World,... Show more content on

When French owners of Acadian lands tried to collect seignorial rents from settlers who were

to control their profit from their trade in furs or grain, Acadians traded illegally; they even traded
with New England while France and England waged war against each

Comparing Film Trailers of Mission Impossible Two and...
Comparing Film Trailers of Mission Impossible Two and Gladiator In the essay I will compare
and analyse the two film trailers I have been studying, Mission Impossible 2 and Gladiator . I
will analyse and compare the different techniques used. These techniques are; Use of characters,
lighting and colour, camera shots and angles, sound and music and editing and framing. In doing
this I will be able to show how effective each trailer is in attracting an audience. Film trailers are
an important form of advertising for a film. They should convey the genre of the film and most
importantly, include enough visual information to allow us to recognise what the film s story line
is. However, a film... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

immediately tell that Tom Cruise is under strict instructions from this man. Now this has all
happened, the audience can recognise what genre of film this is, a typical Mission Impossible
or James Bond film. In the trailer for Gladiator , there are lots of good techniques used. To start
with, there is a close up of Russel Crowe dressed in Roman clothing, then it fades out to a plain
black screen that has, The General written on it. It then super imposes back to a camera shot of
Crowe walking through a line of slaves. It then fades back out to, The Slave . It does this several
times with various messages on the screen. This gives the audience a hint about what might
happen in the film. These few opening sequences show that the film Is set in the ancient Roman
era. This differs from Mission Impossible 2 as that is set nowadays, or at least in modern times.
The trailer then moves into showing action scenes, which make the viewer suddenly more alert and
excited, as the first few scenes are dramatic but rather dull. The action scenes begin, and the
audience immediately begins to watch the

His night on the town started with a shitload of beer and a bevy of enticing women as distractions.
Bryan Thomas tried to decide which he wanted more, a repugnant drink or a quick fuck though
either way, he d still regret it in the morning. As he contemplated, a blonde haired, blue eyed beauty
walks into the bar with a friend. When the womanturned to her friend and then began to speak,
Bryan caught sight of her ass, so full and round, and he grinned.
He downed his Budweiser, paid his tab and with a smile, walked over to the woman who had
captured his attention. His eyes traveled over the blonde s incredible legs and when she turned
around and saw him, he lifted his eyes to meet hers. I hope you ladies don t mind if I interrupt, he

relaxed and enjoyed each other s company. Once the beers were gone, Ashleigh threw her cup away

Would you like to dance? She asked and waited for his reply, hoping that he would agree.
No thanks, I need to find a friend of mine. Maybe another time? Bryan suggested.
Sure, another time. Ashleigh grabbed another beer and then walked off to find someone to dance

Bryan searched for his roommate after Ashleigh walked off to dance. He eventually found Jay on

Essay about Ibn Battuta
Ibn Battuta s remarks of his travels say a great deal about his own culture and norms. Almost
every place he travels to he brings up women and how they are treated, as well as what their
status is in that society. He is also very amused with the dГ©cor of the buildings in terms of gold
and silver decorations. It seems as though he does not come from a wealthy society or his family
is not on the wealthy status level. Battuta also seems to bring up the cleanliness of each area he
travels to. Ibn Battuta s travels to Africa showed a lot about how he was brought up and also
about his culture. He describes the occupants of the town of Zayla as negro people and when he

The Sultan soon passes away and the reign is taken over by his brother who is the polar opposite
of the former ruler. I feel as though this is hearsay and not a direct observation since a mere
traveler wouldn t have such close encounters.
While traveling to India, Battuta notes the inaccessible mountains that are inhabited by Hindu
infidels but are mostly under Muslim rule. The others seem to be rebels who seem to be outcasts
that may have been banished possibly by the Muslims. Again Battuta brings up a woman who he
observes richly dressed followed by both Muslims and infidels. These men accompanying her
were the chiefs of the Hindus. He seems to be surprised with women having any kind of social
status or wealth. Battuta finds one of their death rituals interesting and seems very intrigued by
this practice. The practice involves the burning of a wife after her husband dies. After the widow
burns herself, the widow s family does gain a certain stature and does gain a reputation for
fidelity. However, a widow that does not perform this practice must dress in crude garments and
must live with her own people in misery and is despised for her lack of fidelity. Battuta also is
interested in another death practice that involves the Indians. This is the practice of drowning
themselves in the River Ganges. After they die, the body is burned and the ashes are taken into the
river.
Battuta doesn t seem to agree with the King s eagerness to kill. He makes it a point to explain

Assess The Difference Between Conductive Reasoning And...
The first concepts I learned about in this chapter are the deductive and inductive reasoning. As
developing techniques such as both deductive and inductive reasoning is an important portion of
becoming a critical thinker. So what is deductive reasoning? Deductive reasoning is structured in
such a way as to give as to give us certainty about what it true in a given situation. The conclusions
certainty is established when deductive arguments contain true premises reasons stated in the
correct form (Diestler 2012). So basically, deductive reasoningis taking some set of data or facts
and using that to come up with other deducting facts. When using deductive reasoning its
sometimes knows as the top down approach which is sometimes used for research... Show more

Therefore, you start to think out of the box and having different opinions it can allow you to have
better decision making skills in choosing better life choices for yourselves. In the video that was
shown during the lecture about decision making named How To Make Better Decisions (https:/

using math. In decision making mathematics share the same language, in you have problems that
need to be solved. Therefore, you look at the factors that you re going away against each other so
solve the problem with using math. In the example is trying finding a suitable girlfriend using
numbers. The experiment was to see if the math could predict the volunteers which consist of the
four nerdy science guys could get numbers from girls from a bar setting. The conclusion the
volunteers were a success. Also, something that was discovered was with this simply analyzing
the decision before hand seem to have given the guys more confidence to approach and talk to
girls at the bar. The only person who was not successful was one of the guys Levi who reject the
magic numbers and failed at the experiment in this performance. I don t always think that math can
always be used, but you can if you want to make a logical decision then you make choose math to
help you with the decision making. One thing that can helps me in making better decisions is

The Reggio Emili A Model Of Early Childhood Development...
The Reggio Emilia approach is one that is a model, inspiring early childhood development
education. . As children are natural explorers, they enjoy their environment and would love it to
be a part of their own creation and knowledge. A typical day in a center that is based off of the
Reggio Emilia approach is centered on the interests of the child and the guidance from the teachers.
There are various opportunities that are provided to the children from a Reggio Emilia Approach.
This approach was a model of early childhood education that was based on the foundation that
would facilitate a child s learning through different ways. The ways, such as expressive,
communicative, and cognitive, were intended to progress early childhood development. This
approach was founded by a man who was an early education specialist from Reggio Emilia, a town
in North Italy. The man s name was Loris Malaguzzi. His vision attracted the world through his
project and play based curriculum. It was also based on the play of children and the guide of
educators. The overall approach is combined from principles that were based off of child centered
curriculums. These types of curriculums included parents, educators, the communities, and the
children. This formulated what was known as the environment. The environment is known to be
the third teacher because it is set up by the educators in order to observe and further the learning of
the child. An important factor of this approach is documenting. This

The Clash Of Civilizations By Samuel Huntington
This essay addresses the question of how, if at all, does the trend of intra state conflicts among
groups that have far outnumbered state vs. state conflicts, and if that trend in internal conflict
within states over the last 20 years supports Samuel Huntington s major hypothesis in his essay
The Clash of Civilizations. Huntington s main thesis was that the fundamental source of conflict
in this new world will not be primarily ideological or economic. The great divisions among
humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. This article was written in
1993. We will run the clock forward 23 years to the present in the year 2016. The first indications
after reading his essay was that the author would seem to be semi clairvoyant and provided a
fairly accurate assessment from an analytical perspective. He was, in my estimation, about 75
percent correct in his predictions and assessments, and his overall thesis can be supported through a
careful documentation of available facts, both then in 1993, and today. Huntington gives an
exposition of three phases of conflict starting in May and October of 1648, when the treaties were
signed in the Westphalian cities of Munster and Osnabruck ending the Thirty Years War in the Holy
Roman Empire, and the Eighty Years War that was between the Dutch Republic and Spain. These
treaties culminated in what we call the Peace of Westphalia. Nation state boundaries started to

Roles Of Public And Public Policy
Roles of Public Administrators in the Policy Process The formulation and implementation of
public policy benefit the public. Therefore, public policy is a framework whereby the government
pursues its action plan. Moreover, it is a course of action aimed at responding to a problem and
achieving a goal. Consequently, the formulation of a policyadheres to a particular political process,
and it is enforced and implemented by a public agency. As stated, public policy affects the public,
meaning that it has an effect on the people and how they live. Subsequently, public policy should
cover the needs of the people and enhance their lives. Not all the people can participate in the
policy process, and as a result, those professions that have a direct interaction with the public can
play a big role in representing it in the policy process. Thus, public administrators are best suited to
represent the public in the policy process because they understand needs of the public, the policy
process, and where and when they can influence this process.
Policy Design Public administrators should understand that in a bureaucratic system, they are
essential for good governance. Thus, they are in a position to represent the public and its needs to
the government (Warner, 2001). As stated earlier, the role of policies is to provide a framework
for solving problems. Therefore, from a general perspective, the analytic work in problem solving
moves toward a certain direction, thus from the

International Students Cope With Eating American Cuisine...
Summary Paragraph: One of the many issues that international students face is coping with
American food. With food being linked to culture, international students must face one of the
hardest tasks when coming to America, eating someone else s culture while neglecting their own. In
this research project, I will investigate how international students cope with eating American cuisine
or what measures they take to avoid it. Introduction: Nothing represents a culture better than food.
Food is the fastest way for people to bond and experience one another s culture. Thousands of
students travel from international colleges and universities. These people spend most of their life
eating different foods, foods that they are accustomed to and are naturally born to like. Before
starting college, I never gave any thought of how international students feel about consuming food
of another culture for entire year or in some cases, for multiple years. This is what gave me the idea
to study the culture of international students, including their practices and daily routines. According
to The Kansas State Collegian [daily newspaper at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas],
international students attending the University share a fear of gaining weight from eating
American food. American food is portrayed to them as greasy and not very diverse . Tang, an
international student, who attends KSU claims that in China, her friends would worry for her
weight, making her watch what she

Homo Sapiens And The Extinction
Homo sapiens Role in Neanderthal Extinction
It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one
that is most adaptable to change (Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has
been on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to
an advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced
medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements
humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens
dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game
and thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to
decrease drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one
leading theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens
into the Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through
increased food completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a
stocky species, which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans.
Neanderthals were well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their
prime the Neanderthal population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013,
1).

Analysis Of `` Under The Influence `` By Scott Russell...
When we analyze Scott Russell Sanders memoir Under the Influence, using the notion of betrayal
Patricia Hampl establishes in her memoir Other People s Secret, we discover that Under the
Influence, rather than being a breach of trust, is instead Sanders attempt to redeem his drunkard
dad s character. Patricia Hampl, in her memoir, recounts what she calls betrayals that she has
committed against people ranging from her friends to someone as close as her own mother whom
she writes about in her works. This betrayal often involves her inconsiderately revealing
something about them, which they think is detrimental to their image: for example, Hampl
revealing her mother s epilepsy, an illness her mother had kept secret from the outside world, in
her poem. Under the Influence has a similar context; Sanders also reveals his family s long
standing secret that his father was a chronic drunkard. However, despite the revelation, Sander
seems to focus on portraying his father not as an alcoholic but as someone afflicted by the disease
of alcoholism. He tries to convince readers that his father was unlike other drunkards and focuses
on his father s character rather than on the morality of his drinking habit. In light of this, can we
contend that Under the Influence is a betrayal committed by Sanders towards his father and his
family? In this paper, I will scrutinize Hampl s perception of betrayal and use it to analyze this
question. I will also examine the possibility that

year, Wilson was the first quarterback to earn all ACC honors at North Carolina State
University. Wilson s passion to continue to play baseball caused conflict with coach Tom O
Brien, head football coach at North Carolina State University. Coach O Brien and Wilson came
to a disagreement due to Russell s decision to attend Spring training with the Rockies, a Major
League Baseball team, in 2011 after he was drafted by them in 2010. Wilson decided to transfer
to the University of Wisconsin Madison and continued his success. By Wilson s senior year, he
led his football team, the Badgers, to the Big 10 conference while setting a record within the
NCAA for his passing efficiency. In April 2012, Russell Wilson was drafted to the Seattle
Seahawks and has been setting records ever since he started playing. Wilson holds the record for
the most passing yards in a playoff game and is a top five NFL quarterback (Breitenbach). Not
only did Russell Wilson achieve amazing accomplishments in a span of 4 years, he has only

Fifth Business Identity Quotes
In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies attempts to illustrate the quest for self identity through the life
of the novel s protagonist, Dunstable Ramsay. During the first pages of this novel, a life changing
incident occurs that severely affects the fates of the three main characters: Dunstable Ramsay,
Percy Staunton, and Paul Dempster. In the small town of Deptford, Ontario, Percy Staunton, the
town s bully, throws a snowball bearing a stone at Dunstable. Being clever boy, Dunstable quickly
ducks out of the way and the snowball collides with pregnant Mrs. Dempster s skull. As a result,
Mrs. Dempster loses her sanity, goes into early labour, and gives birth to her premature child, Paul
Dempster. Although Dunstable was not the one to throw the... Show more content on

Fifth Business is divided into six immense chapters around forty five pages each somewhat
representing a key period of Dunstan Ramsay s life: his childhood, the identity change, Mrs.
Dempster s sainthood, his friendship with Boy, the development of his self confidence and the
unveiling of the snowball incident. Then, each of these megachapters is divided into an average of
eight subchapters. This is extremely confusing due to the fact that the subchapters hardly ever
relate in their entirety to the main focus of the megachapter. Thus, the book is filled with irrelevant
sections that contribute neither to the plot nor to the unveiling of the characters personalities. For
example, although the primary focus of chapter three is Dunstan s quest to discover Mrs.
Dempster s sainthood, he spends an entire subsection of four pages describing Boy and Leola s
wedding. The sole information that I retained from those four pages was that Leola looked like a
silver spoon in her dress. Likewise, the use of figurative language contributed to the confusing style
of Fifth Business. Throughout the book, Robertson Davies often attempted to foreshadow
upcoming events in Dunstan Ramsay s life. However, this use of figurative language did nothing
but add confusion to the plot, for it was not very subtle. For example, in the very beginning of the
book, Dunstan Ramsay mentions Paul Dempster for the first time: That was how Paul Dempster,
whose reputation is doubtless familiar to you (though that was not the name under which he gained
it), came to be born early on the morning of December 28 in 1908. (Davies, 5). In this sentence,
Robertson Davies had attempted to foreshadow Paul s change of identity; but, only added
confusion to the plot, for at this point in the book, the reader does not have enough information
about Paul Dempster to fully comprehend the foreshadow.

An Analysis Of Tim O Brien s Things They Carried
Stories play a very important role in our society. However, the process that the story is told
differs based on its form. For example is it a poem (which has a specific form and style) or is it a
prose (written/spoken language without any metrical structure)? Although poetry and prose greatly
differs from each other, there are many similarities between them. Prose is defined to be in an
ordinary form, but prose can share some poetic qualities such as literary devices, imagery, and
theme, and many more. Tim O Brien s Things They Carried depicts a fragmented stories about his
and other soldiers experiences that occurred in the VietnamWar. Similarly, the poem, Facing It
shows a soldier who returns to the Memorial of the Vietnam War where he recalls his own
trauma in the war as he looks at the stones. Both the prose, Things They Carried and the poem,
Facing it conveys the similar theme where they are struggling to overcome the trauma of the war
and face the reality. However, the style and the form that the poem and the prose is depicted
differs from each other. The main theme of The Things They Carried is how O Brien utilizes the
strategy of storytelling in order to transcend the reality so that he can convey the truths of his and
other soldiers traumatic experiences. O Brien mentions in the story that after getting drafted, he
flees to the the Rainy River, on the border of Canada. In actuality, O Brien never fled to the Rainy
River. He did not lie so

The Importance Of My High School Band
I play the French horn in my high school band. Our band is small only 25 30 members but we
are a family. Each class I see the determination on each person s face to do well because there s
the constant pressure of letting the rest of the band down. Because we are so small, each person
has to play to the absolute best of their abilities; each individual person needs to be a strong
player in order for our band to sound good. I ve played in larger bands on several occasions and I
was shocked to see that some kids would just... not play. Our band cannot afford that leniency.
Our size in itself is a challenge. However, I have personal struggles within the band as well. There
have only been two French horn players in my band for the entirety of my high school career:
myself and the number one horn player in the state, Cross. My whole life I have played second to
an amazing musician but while I improved by playing with him, I also never received any
recognition for my personal achievements or was ever granted the primary leadership position.
I often struggle to comprehend how good of a player I am, especially because I have performance
anxiety which hinders me during auditions and most performances. I constantly compare myself to
this amazing player who auditions well, who is regularly being recognized for musical
achievements, and who can never quite understand the concept of humility. He never understood
my struggle, so I was left adrift in an overwhelming sea of ineptitude.

Early Sport Diversification Research
In regards to the development of young athletes, a controversial question exists; will the path of
early sport diversification or the path of early sport specialization ultimately lead to greater sport
expertise and elite performance? Specifically, what effects can each pathway have on
development of a child s physical fitness and motor coordination as well as a young athletes career
development? Stakes run high for sports with limited scholarship availability and national team
sports, so, when it comes to athletes who are identified as talented at a young age, in many cases
they are pushed to specialize in that sportearly by parents with high expectations and aggressive

al (2011) showed that significant differences existed between the two groups in the development
of their physical fitness and gross motor coordination. Initially, the data showed that boys ages 10
12 that sampled multiple sports had significant differences in strength, speed, agility, and gross
motor coordination. There also existed a positive correlation between the number of hours spent
participating in sports per week and its effect on performance. Boys who spent more hours per
week training did significantly better on the strength, flexibility, speed, agility, cardiovascular
endurance, and gross motor coordination tests among all age groups. Advantages of this study
include that it s ability to gather data from a large population of boys from multiple age groups (6

fitness, and gross motor coordination. Unfortunately, the study failed to recognize if the children
who participated in multiple sports have better physical fitness and gross motor coordination
solely due to sport sampling. It is possible that better athletes choose to participate in more sports.
Fransen et. al (2011) concluded his study finding that early diversification may lead to slower
improvement in performance than early specialization, but spending many hours per week in
multiple sports before the age of twelve exposes children to a broad range of physical, personal, and

The First Incident Of The Civil War Essay
In 2000 the Zimbabwean government tried to amend the constitution, and replace the Willing
Buyer, Willing Seller act with one that would allow government to expropriate whatever land it
needed, without compensation. This attempt to amend the constitution failed. However, the War
veterans association, independently mobilized people and marched on farms owned by white
people, and forcefully removing them from their land. It is widely believed that the British are
responsible for this because they didn t follow promises that they had made with the people of
Zimbabweon multiple occasions in history. The first incident was when Cecil Rhodes broke the
Rudd Concessions; the second incident was when Ian Smith tried to create a façade of majority
rule; and the last and final incident was when the British broke the agreements made at the
Lancaster house. However, the British cannot be blamed for breaking of the Lancaster agreements
because they didn t benefit the poor and were too expensive.

Stamp Paid describes the gathering and cooking of the food in anticipation of the party and how
the party was the cause of their fall from grace . He describes the gathering of the berries and the
difficulty in retrieving them. Stamp Paid s description of the ordeal he experiences brings to mind
the snake in the Garden of Eve. His narration of the preparation for the party seems to signify the
beginning of their downfall.
He walked six miles to the riverbank; did a slide run slide down into a ravine made almost
inaccessible by brush. He reached through brambleslined with blood drawing thorns thick as knives
that cut through his shirt sleeves and trousers. All the while suffering mosquitoes, bees, hornets,
wasps and the meanest lady spiders in the state. Scratched, raked and bitten, he maneuvered

The reference to snakes refers back to the snake in the Garden of Eden. Additionally, the reference

At the conclusion of a sprint work is often left uncompleted, most commonly due to these
inaccurate estimations. Estimation Areas of Opportunity AA Consulting observed behaviors
during team meetings and estimation sessions and identified three tangible areas of opportunity
for Company X. Allocating focus to these three areas will ameliorate the struggles faced during
the estimation process. Equate Story Points to Effort The first opportunity is to be cognizant
that story points are intended to be a measure of effort and complexity. While it may be natural
to equate one story point to one hour, doing so can be cause for unreliable estimations. Company
X should size stories relative to the complexity of work. For instance, while it may take a senior
developer a shorter time duration to complete a story than a junior developer, the complexity of
the story will not change. As a result, team members of various backgrounds and skill levels can
agree (Cohn, 2015) on the story points necessary for a feature. Stopping the incorrect behavior of
equating story points to duration will yield accurate estimates regardless of which team member
completes the work. Include the Entire Team The second area of opportunity for Company X is to
include the entire team when reaching a consensus on estimation. To accurately reflect complexity
for all team members it is important they are present and engaged. While we acknowledge

Most evictions requires a notice demanding that the tenant does something or refrains from doing
something or in the alternative vacate the house. The most common cause of eviction is failure to
pay rent. This kind of eviction requires a three day notice to pay the rent or vacate. The tenant
can pay the rent before the lapse of the three days to avoid eviction. The tenant must have
defaulted payment in order to serve the notice. The tenant can also be evicted for failure to
comply or a violation of the tenant agreement. The notice period of this type of eviction is three
days and the tenant must comply with the relevant section of the tenant agreement. The tenant
can also be evicted for waste nuisance or illegal activity. The three day notice for this type of
eviction requires the tenant to have caused substantial destruction of the house, involved in
illegal activities or an arrest on the property. This notice does not give the tenant the option to
comply but requires the tenant to vacate before the end of the notice period. There is also the 30
day notice for the termination of tenancy agreement. In this case, Larry does not have grounds to

The Importance Of Animal Behaviors
Animals are more humanlike than you think! Animals have many humanlike emotions and
behaviors, but this can scare people or blind them. When it should boost conservation attitudes.
Animals actually have all the emotions as humans do, they just don t always show them in the
same ways humans normally do. Animals have all the primary and learned emotions but do not
always express them in the same way as humans do. Animals experience pain, but that does not
mean they all show it in the same way. For example, a fish will express grief/sadness by hiding
or by swimming back and forth really fast, and they will act really strange. Some chimpanzees, to
grief, will stay around the body of a dead friend for long periods of time almost protecting it (
AnimalBehaviors ). This data is relevant because we now know what emotions most animals do
and do not have. Animals can also have many behaviors that humans have too. For example,
chimpanzees use tools to help them with everyday tasks. An example is chimpanzees use sticks to
poke potential predators to see how much of a danger they are to them. Chimpanzees also use
rocks to break nuts to eat (Animal Behaviors). This is data is relevant to the claim because it shows
us what kind of humanlike behaviors animals have. Humans have primary emotions and multiple
learned emotions. Primary emotions are emotions that are expressed by all cultures and they are
anger, sadness, happiness, surprise, disgust, and fear. Learned emotions are

Ursula Le Guin draws in many readers though her creation of fantasy worlds and characters that

Evil In Macbeth
The actions of a person whom has lost their humanity can be described as, evil. Whereas a person

In Christianity, a baby born as the spawn of Satan known as the Anti Christ may be known as
pure evil to Christians. But at birth, no one would be able to tell whether or not if it would be

repercussions, that they are able to be fully denounced evil.
One example of an evil character that everyone presumes is evil, would be Macbeth: a leader of the

enemies, but by his people he was viewed as a true inspirational leader. But with greed, comes loss.
Thus he was able to taint himself black and commit his sins.

deformed or dysfunctional amygdalae commits acts of murder, it would not entirely be their fault.
It is an uncontrollable factor that plays the same role as peer pressure. The person may be able to

Fraudulent Financial Reporting Schemes
Abstract
Routine examinations, audits, or internal control procedures, do not reveal most accounting fraud.
Only 20% is revealed by way of auditing, however whistle blowing accounts for most revealed

This is achieved by inflating the company s assets, net earnings, and/or equity. To understate
liabilities the company would not record accrued liabilities or accounts payable, service or
warranty liabilities, loans (or keep liabilities completely off of the company books), contingent
liabilities, and record unearned revenues as earned revenue.
Improper Asset Valuation
The more assets a creditor, lender, or investor can view on a company s books the more
appealing the companies are to the creditor s, lender s, or investors. Assets are used to earn the
company money in order to pay or pay off its debt. This can cause improper asset valuation of such
accounts as: accounts receivable, fixed assets, and or inventory. Considering the complexity of
inventory records, management finds inventory as an attractive place to commit financial statement
fraud. Inventory is sometimes comprised of larger number items and distributed from several
locations making it easier for the improper creation of estimates for slow moving or dated goods.
Additionally, management will create non existing inventory, manipulate the physical count, fail to
record the actual purchase, and improperly capitalize inventory, (Colby, n.d).

It becomes too risky to reinvent new ideas before the company has reached its growth stage of the
Life Cycle. The normal process is to reach maturity and then develop new ideas. Toyrus.com is
staying within scope of the Life cycle; although they have the toy business mastered they are still
trying to master the art of websites.
Social relevance is another factor that one can use to help analyze the attractiveness of the industry.
Overall, any form of business done over the Internet is socially accepted because the Internet offers
convenience as well as a time saver. The number one demographic group that frequents on line toy
stores is mothers of children. They know that when it comes Christmas time, what better way to

raises the relevance and necessity for such a website. Society already gives acceptance to the

The degree of globalization is another factor that influences attractiveness. If a company entering an

Philosophy of religion: Lesson Before Dying, religious symbolism was used throughout the novel.
Grant and Pastor Ambrose were continually battling over religious beliefs and spirituality.
Philosophy of science: Midwives, the trial of Sybil traditionalists vs. modernists. This course has
helped me think outside the box and dissect a work of art, and identify underlying questions that
provides me a better understanding of what the writer is trying to portray to their audience. In

Sex, Marriage, And Sexual Commitments
Sex and love have changed the last few decades immensely; changing how people look at dating,
marriage, and sexual commitments. Definition of dating has changed from generation to
generation. Marriage has also changed and to the point that many people are putting marriage
off longer. From these changes there has been a new culture that has formed. The hookup
culture is the lack of commitment to a single partner, but having flings with one or more people.
Dating has not been around but for nearly a hundred years. Paula England, who started the
research of the hookup culture using a college survey, stated in her paper for The Family in
Transition, ...the invention of dating started in the 1920s and was helped along by the
automobile and commercial sports, like movie theaters, where youth would go. This gave
young people more of freedom to enjoy themselves with other people of the same age. Dating
was not a real cause as people had marriages arranged for class status. In the movie Mona Lisa
Smile the character Betty, portrayed by Kirsten Dunst, married her college boyfriend. They
mainly married as it was expected of them from the pressure of their family for their rise in class
status. This is seen throughout history in marriages but has changed over the last several decades.
Betty and Spencer, her husband, who were allowed to date and able to see if they were a perfect
fit. Unlike that young people looking for a match had to be under supervision. ...young men often

Neurological Approach Analysis
Psychological and Neurological Approaches
Introduction
It has only been recently that learning and memory were considered to be of scientific relevance.
It has developed over the years as more accurate ways of measuring these fields have come to the
surface. Aristotle, a philosopher, was of the first few to observe and write about memory. He
developed the idea of associationism which states that memory can be influenced by formations of
associations or linkages between events, sensations, or ideas, so that experiencing any of these
elicits a memory or anticipation of the other (Gluck, Mercado, Myers, 2014). There are three basic
principles of associationism which include contiguity, frequency, and similarity. Contiguity is the

It provides the physiological blueprint for the way our brain processes learning and memory.
There are two major recent advancements in technology that help us physically see how all
these parts work and function together. Structural neuroimaging is the process of creating a
anatomical picture of the brain. It can show the size and shape of the brain as well as areas of
lesions or brain damage (Gluck, Mercado, Myers, 2014). Common structural neuroimaging
techniques used today are computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and
diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). While they all work to create a 3D image of your brain, the
each have their own unique image to show. The traditional x ray only providing one image at
one angle, the CT scans allow for multiple images of slices or crosses through the body and this
allows you to see the anatomical structure of the body in three dimensional space (Gluck,
Mercado, Myers, 2014). The MRI works in a similar way although it uses magnetic waves to
create electrical currents in the brain, allowing you to create an image of size and/or shape of
the brain. The newly improved MRI or the DTI measures water diffusion in the brain tissue
where several groups of axons are physically viewing the connections of the brain (Gluck,
Mercado, Myers, 2014). Functional neuroimaging has allowed researchers to view the activities
and functions in the brain and track the amount of oxygen being carried in the blood, thus
allowing them to view areas where the brain is high function or low function. Technology like the
positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic imaging (fMRI) are ways in which
we can psychically see these areas of activity. The method I find most intriguing is the CT scan
for it was the first of its kind in brain imaging. Personally experiencing a CT scan in the past, it
always amazes me how quick and accurately the

Day For Bananafish
A Perfect Day for Bananafish takes place at a hotel resort in Florida. The story begins with
Muriel Glass, a young woman who has been married to Seymour for five years. Muriel is on the
phone with her mom. Muriel s mother worries that something is wrong with Seymour, and that
her daughter is no longer safe with him. Since his return from World War Two, he has been acting
unusual. He seems to be incapable to function in social places as he tends to isolate himself from
other adults. The story then takes place at the beach outside of the hotel. There, a little girl around
the age of four years old is waiting for her mother to finish applying sunscreen to her back. Sybil
kept repeating See more glass to which her mother could not understand the meaning.... Show more

Throughout their time staying at the hotel, Sybil and Seymour have developed a friendship.
The two head into the ocean together where Seymour explains bananafish to Sybil. Seymour
states they are very ordinary looking fish that swim into a hole where there are a lot of bananas.
Once in the hole the fish feast on as many bananas as they can eat. After they eat so much they re
so fat they can t get out of the hole again . Since they cannot fit back through the hole they
entered, the bananafish end up dying there. Sybil believes Seymour s story and therefore
exclaims that she saw a bananafish with six bananas in its mouth. Seymour then kissed the arch
of Sybil s foot and returned her back to the beach. After the two went their own ways, Seymour
made his way back to the hotel. In the elevator he accuses a woman of staring at his feet.
Seymour makes it back to his room where he opens the door to find Muriel asleep on one of the
twin beds. He took a gun out of his suitcase, sat on the other twin bed, looked at Muriel for one last
time, the fired a bullet through his right

Bronchiectamin Case Study Examples
History of Present Illness: Ms. Mullaney is here for follow up of her bronchiectasis. Sputum
culture previously grew out multiple organisms to include microbacterium avium complex as
well as Acinetobacter and Enterobacter. I elected to treat her with a 10 day course of Levaquin.
Today, she states her shortness of breath and cough is significantly improved. She did see Peter J
Sebeny, MD on Oct 11th. His notes today however are not available for review. In speaking with
her, however, I get the impression that treatment for MAC is not clearly indicated at this point. She
denies any fever or chills. She does state that her appetite has returned. She has no other specific
complaints at this time. She notes that she barely used any of the Cheratussin that I prescribed for
her for her use at night. Medications: 1.Sotalol. 2.Trazodone. 3.Multivitamin. 4.Lorazepam p.r.n.

Should she become more symptomatic in the near future, it would be reasonable to perform
bronchoscopy for AFB cultures and should those results be positive, I believe further
consideration for Mycobacterium avium complex infection therapy would then be warranted.
She does have some plural thickening as noted on her CT scan in May and I have ordered a six
month repeat CT scan for follow up. It is interesting to note that she does have some nodular
disease that are both tree and bud as well as in a bronchovascular distribution, which calls to
question the possibility of sarcoidosis as well. However, she does not have any significant

Giving the readers the ability to read latest stories and headlines would ensure that they get value
for their money. There is also the ability to search other related stories from the publications.
Having the articles published, searchable by the readers may be by topic, or by the date would be
a plus for the publishing businesses. Something that allows the readers to give their opinions, share
their side of the story and rate the articles would help the publisher know their customers feelings
and reactions to different topics. This is important as it will guide the publishers in establishing the
topics and articles that appeals most with their targeted buyers. The ipad from pressmart has a poll
feature that would help in getting the readers topics of interest.
There is also the feature of Video and Image gallery that allows readers to access images and
videos in a published article. The image can be saved or even sent via email. This enables the
readers to share with their friends and relatives. This creates more awareness about the published
magazine or newspaper. The Social networking ability where a reader can create a digital
community and interact promotes and enlarges the publishers market. The published article could
be viewed in a single page view or in a portrait form. The readers can get on demand delivery of
content on their ipad. This means that they are able to get any article published

  • 2. Short Answer Questions On Life Policy Short Answer Questions Question 1 Rod and Trudi, both aged 35, are married and have two children aged 8 and 5. Outline the possible advantages of them taking out a whole of life policy to cover their family s financial protection needs, in preference to a level term assurance There are key benefits that Rod and Trudi would receive if they took out a whole of life policy as opposed to a level term assurance policy: Because life assurance companies know that they will have to pay out at some stage on a whole of life policy, premiums are used to build up a reserve, to be paid out when death occurs. If the policy is surrendered while the lives assured are still alive, a surrender value can be available. This value could be used to fund a number of family needs, such as future education costs. Term assurance is only payable if death occurs, which means there will be no value in cash should the policy be stopped. A whole of life policy has no term, which means that as long as the premiums are maintained, the policy will be in place until the policyholder s death, whenever that occurs. This is important for Rod and Trudi, because although life assurance protection is particularly important while the children are growing up, there will probably be a need for permanent life cover continuing beyond that. Term assurance on the other hand, only runs for a set term of years. This means that there would be no life assurance protection if death occurred after the policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Genocide in the Democratic Republic of the Congo The Democratic Republic of the Congo, a.k.a. the DRC, or more commonly the Congo , has experienced an endless nightmare of violence, poverty, famine, sickness, and murder for the past 16 years. The constant bloodshed between the national and armed forces has led to countless civilian deaths, or the genocide in the Congo. Before I go on any further, I must explain what a genocide is. A genocide is the attempted destruction of an entire group of people. The most famous example is the Holocaust in which 6 million Jews were murdered during World War II. It is tragic to say that history has repeated itself and over 5 to 7 million Congolese civilians have lost their lives since 1996. In order to truly understand the events that are transpiring... The war lasted for 5 years and took place entirely in the Congo, resulting in the deaths of 5 million Congolese civilians, most to to starvation or sickness (BBC News). The Congo never recovered, and to this day, Eastern Congo is unstable (BBC News). In 2001, Kabila was assassinated, leading to him being replaced by his son Joseph Kabila (ECI). According to the Eastern Congo Initiative, the Congo held its first democratic elections in 2006, with Kabila being elected. At the same time, however, multiple armed groups gained power and began fighting over control of mineral resources in the Eastern Congo, resulting in more civilian lives. To this day they still continue to fight, and despite multiple peace treaties, the violence does not end (ECI). At these moments, life in the Congo is a living nightmare. The eastern provinces of the Congo see violence every day. Women are getting raped at alarming rates. Children are constantly abused and forced to become child soldiers. There are no sources of medicine or even clean water. Anyone can get murdered at any time, and no one is even safe in their own homes. According to ICRtoP, the Democratic Republic of Congo is reported to be the rape capital of the world with an estimated 15,000 rape cases in the Congo s eastern provinces alone. • 4. The Day Of The World Every single person is frightened of death, or has a fear of being left behind. Death of a person is very terrifying, yet the end of humanity and universe is not even imaginable. Humankind has been wondering how and when will the Earth end for thousands of years, to be prepared spiritually and religiously or just to decide whether to spend all the money that a person has or enjoy the life more. Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing concepts. Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop worrying because they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the people who believes humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to environment directly, hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the environment. Universe is the place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is the time many religions accept that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about end of the world can be separated into three groups which are the end by the human based problems, physical destruction of universe and the order of God. Although the human based damages on the Earth are getting more and more serious and physical collapse of universe makes sense scientifically, the decision of ending the world will only be in the hands of the owner of everything, the God, not the humankind. To begin with, humankind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Black Panther Party The Black Panthers The Black Panther Party is a self defense, African American revolutionary party. This party was founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale during the 1960 s. This party was dedicated to combating white oppression, and did so by the use of both peaceful and violent actions. Looking back at the history of the Black Panthers, it can be clearly seen that the peaceful idea of equality for all spawned this group and their violent actions for the main reason that they were willing to do anything to defend their beliefs. One of the greatest reasons for the violent actions of the party, should be credited to the co founder named Huey Newton. Huey Newton was a rebellious individual who was suspected of committing many crimes. As minister of defense within the party, Huey was seen as a leader to the members of the organization. In an interview with Newton, he made clear what he wanted the party to stand for, and what they needed to do to achieve this. In an excerpt from the interview transcript, he says that there are two kinds of nationalism, revolutionary and reactionary nationalism. Revolutionary nationalism is first dependent upon a People s revolution with the end goal being the people in power... If you are a reactionary nationalist you are not a socialist and your end goal is the oppression of the people. (Newton 1). From this transcript, it can be inferred what kind of nationalism Huey wants the party to follow. He wants the people to gain power through the use of violence And extremism. As the interview continues, Huey states the views of the Black Panther Party by saying The Black Panther Party, which is a revolutionary group of black people, realizes that we have an identity. We have to realize our black heritage in order to give us strength to move on and progress (Newton 1). By saying this, Huey is announcing to the world that the Black Panthers are going to cause a dramatic change, and implies that they will do whatever is necessary as long as they have the strength. The cause for violence from peaceful ideas is largely due to the leadership. The minister of Education George Murray made many speeches that supported the violent actions, and encouraged them. • 6. Powerful Women In The Odyssey Power is a curious concept that most people have or understand. When women experience power and strength it is incredible and unique. In The Odyssey by Homer, there are a lot of powerful, strong women. Women in this poem are tough, strong willed and are treated with the respect and seriousness they deserve. (Bartleby 1). In this quote, it is talking about how women were treated well, but in reality women were treated like wasted space. As Homer writes about women, they seemed to be smarter than the men. The women know what to do, how to do it, and most importantly listen to what other people say. When Hermes tells Calypso to let Odysseus go, she obeyed. She knew if she would have ignored the gods, there would have been consequences. The men in this book aren t very good listeners. When, Odysseus told his men not to eat the sun cattle, they didn t listen and they payed for it with their lives. This is one of the many reasons Homer seems like a feminist.... Acadian Natives Acadians are the descendants of a group of French speaking settlers who migrated from coastal France in the late sixteenth century to establish a French colony called Acadia in the maritime provinces of Canada and part of what is now the state of Maine. Forced out by the British in the mid sixteenth century, a few settlers remained in Maine, but most resettled in southern Louisianaand are popularly known as Cajuns. Before 1713, Acadia was a French colony pioneered mostly by settlers from the coastal provinces of Brittany, Normandy, Picardy, and Poitou a region that suffered great hardships in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. In 1628, famine and plague followed the end of a series of religious wars between Catholics and Protestants. When social tensions in coastal France ripened, more than 10,000 people left for the colony founded by Samuel Champlain in 1604 known as La Cadie or Acadia. The area, which included what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and part of Maine, was one of the first European colonies in North America. I will analyse and compare the different techniques used. These techniques are; Use of characters, lighting and colour, camera shots and angles, sound and music and editing and framing. In doing this I will be able to show how effective each trailer is in attracting an audience. Film trailers are an important form of advertising for a film. Now this has all happened, the audience can recognise what genre of film this is, a typical Mission Impossible or James Bond film. In the trailer for Gladiator , there are lots of good techniques used. The others seem to be rebels who seem to be outcasts that may have been banished possibly by the Muslims. Again Battuta brings up a woman who he observes richly dressed followed by both Muslims and infidels. These men accompanying her were the chiefs of the Hindus. He seems to be surprised with women having any kind of social status or wealth. Battuta finds one of their death rituals interesting and seems very intrigued by this practice. The practice involves the burning of a wife after her husband dies. After the widow burns herself, the widow s family does gain a certain stature and does gain a reputation for fidelity. However, a widow that does not perform this practice must dress in crude garments and must live with her own people in misery and is despised for her lack of fidelity. Battuta also is interested in another death practice that involves the Indians. This is the practice of drowning themselves in the River Ganges. After they die, the body is burned and the ashes are taken into the river. Battuta doesn t seem to agree with the King s eagerness to kill. He makes it a point to explain ... Deductive reasoning is structured in such a way as to give as to give us certainty about what it true in a given situation. The conclusions certainty is established when deductive arguments contain true premises reasons stated in the correct form (Diestler 2012). • 15. The Clash Of Civilizations By Samuel Huntington This essay addresses the question of how, if at all, does the trend of intra state conflicts among groups that have far outnumbered state vs. state conflicts, and if that trend in internal conflict within states over the last 20 years supports Samuel Huntington s major hypothesis in his essay The Clash of Civilizations. Huntington s main thesis was that the fundamental source of conflict in this new world will not be primarily ideological or economic. The great divisions among humankind and the dominating source of conflict will be cultural. This article was written in 1993. We will run the clock forward 23 years to the present in the year 2016. The first indications after reading his essay was that the author would seem to be semi clairvoyant and provided a fairly accurate assessment from an analytical perspective. He was, in my estimation, about 75 percent correct in his predictions and assessments, and his overall thesis can be supported through a careful documentation of available facts, both then in 1993, and today. Huntington gives an exposition of three phases of conflict starting in May and October of 1648, when the treaties were signed in the Westphalian cities of Munster and Osnabruck ending the Thirty Years War in the Holy Roman Empire, and the Eighty Years War that was between the Dutch Republic and Spain. These treaties culminated in what we call the Peace of Westphalia. Nation state boundaries started to become more prevalent and used in a more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Roles Of Public And Public Policy Roles of Public Administrators in the Policy Process The formulation and implementation of public policy benefit the public. Therefore, public policy is a framework whereby the government pursues its action plan. Moreover, it is a course of action aimed at responding to a problem and achieving a goal. Consequently, the formulation of a policyadheres to a particular political process, and it is enforced and implemented by a public agency. As stated, public policy affects the public, meaning that it has an effect on the people and how they live. Subsequently, public policy should cover the needs of the people and enhance their lives. Not all the people can participate in the policy process, and as a result, those professions that have a direct interaction with the public can play a big role in representing it in the policy process. Thus, public administrators are best suited to represent the public in the policy process because they understand needs of the public, the policy process, and where and when they can influence this process. Policy Design Public administrators should understand that in a bureaucratic system, they are essential for good governance. Thus, they are in a position to represent the public and its needs to the government (Warner, 2001). As stated earlier, the role of policies is to provide a framework for solving problems. Therefore, from a general perspective, the analytic work in problem solving moves toward a certain direction, thus from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With food being linked to culture, international students must face one of the hardest tasks when coming to America, eating someone else s culture while neglecting their own. In this research project, I will investigate how international students cope with eating American cuisine or what measures they take to avoid it. Introduction: Nothing represents a culture better than food. Food is the fastest way for people to bond and experience one another s culture. Thousands of students travel from international colleges and universities. These people spend most of their life eating different foods, foods that they are accustomed to and are naturally born to like. Before starting college, I never gave any thought of how international students feel about consuming food of another culture for entire year or in some cases, for multiple years. This is what gave me the idea to study the culture of international students, including their practices and daily routines. According to The Kansas State Collegian [daily newspaper at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas], international students attending the University share a fear of gaining weight from eating American food. American food is portrayed to them as greasy and not very diverse . It is the one that is most adaptable to change (Evolution Quotes). So far in the saga that is Earth humanity has been on the winning side of change. Humans have evolved over time from simple hunter gathers to an advanced species of builders and thinkers. Humans have built complex cities, created advanced medicine, and even left their own plant for the moon. Despite all these remarkable achievements humans were not the first species of Homo to expand across the globe. Before Homo sapiens dominated the Earth, their cousins Homo Neanderthals roamed Europe and Asia hunting big game and thriving. However, between 30,000 and 40,00 years ago the Neanderthal population began to decrease drastically. It is unclear what caused this drastic drop in Neanderthal population, but one leading theory points an evolutionary finger at Homo sapiens. The introduction of Homo sapiens into the Neanderthal environment negatively affected the Neanderthal population size through increased food completion, Homo Sapien violence, and interbreeding Homo Neanderthals were a stocky species, which had an average height of about 5ft 5in and a large brain similar to humans. Neanderthals were well adapted to live in the cold temperature of northern Europe, and in their prime the Neanderthal population is estimated to be as large as 70,000 individuals (Bocquet 2013, 1). ... When we analyze Scott Russell Sanders memoir Under the Influence, using the notion of betrayal Patricia Hampl establishes in her memoir Other People s Secret, we discover that Under the Influence, rather than being a breach of trust, is instead Sanders attempt to redeem his drunkard dad s character. Patricia Hampl, in her memoir, recounts what she calls betrayals that she has committed against people ranging from her friends to someone as close as her own mother whom she writes about in her works. This betrayal often involves her inconsiderately revealing something about them, which they think is detrimental to their image: for example, Hampl revealing her mother s epilepsy, an illness her mother had kept secret from the outside world, in her poem. Under the Influence has a similar context; Sanders also reveals his family s long standing secret that his father was a chronic drunkard. However, despite the revelation, Sander seems to focus on portraying his father not as an alcoholic but as someone afflicted by the disease of alcoholism. He tries to convince readers that his father was unlike other drunkards and focuses on his father s character rather than on the morality of his drinking habit. In light of this, can we contend that Under the Influence is a betrayal committed by Sanders towards his father and his family? In this paper, I will scrutinize Hampl s perception of betrayal and use it to analyze this question. I will also examine the possibility that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Fifth Business Identity Quotes In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies attempts to illustrate the quest for self identity through the life of the novel s protagonist, Dunstable Ramsay. During the first pages of this novel, a life changing incident occurs that severely affects the fates of the three main characters: Dunstable Ramsay, Percy Staunton, and Paul Dempster. In the small town of Deptford, Ontario, Percy Staunton, the town s bully, throws a snowball bearing a stone at Dunstable. Being clever boy, Dunstable quickly ducks out of the way and the snowball collides with pregnant Mrs. Dempster s skull. As a result, Mrs. Dempster loses her sanity, goes into early labour, and gives birth to her premature child, Paul Dempster. Although Dunstable was not the one to throw the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fifth Business is divided into six immense chapters around forty five pages each somewhat representing a key period of Dunstan Ramsay s life: his childhood, the identity change, Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, his friendship with Boy, the development of his self confidence and the unveiling of the snowball incident. Then, each of these megachapters is divided into an average of eight subchapters. This is extremely confusing due to the fact that the subchapters hardly ever relate in their entirety to the main focus of the megachapter. Thus, the book is filled with irrelevant sections that contribute neither to the plot nor to the unveiling of the characters personalities. For example, although the primary focus of chapter three is Dunstan s quest to discover Mrs. Dempster s sainthood, he spends an entire subsection of four pages describing Boy and Leola s wedding. The sole information that I retained from those four pages was that Leola looked like a silver spoon in her dress. Likewise, the use of figurative language contributed to the confusing style of Fifth Business. Throughout the book, Robertson Davies often attempted to foreshadow upcoming events in Dunstan Ramsay s life. However, this use of figurative language did nothing but add confusion to the plot, for it was not very subtle. For example, in the very beginning of the book, Dunstan Ramsay mentions Paul Dempster for the first time: That was how Paul Dempster, whose reputation is doubtless familiar to you (though that was not the name under which he gained it), came to be born early on the morning of December 28 in 1908. (Davies, 5). In this sentence, Robertson Davies had attempted to foreshadow Paul s change of identity; but, only added confusion to the plot, for at this point in the book, the reader does not have enough information about Paul Dempster to fully comprehend the foreshadow. ... • 23. An Analysis Of Tim O Brien s Things They Carried Stories play a very important role in our society. However, the process that the story is told differs based on its form. For example is it a poem (which has a specific form and style) or is it a prose (written/spoken language without any metrical structure)? Although poetry and prose greatly differs from each other, there are many similarities between them. Prose is defined to be in an ordinary form, but prose can share some poetic qualities such as literary devices, imagery, and theme, and many more. Tim O Brien s Things They Carried depicts a fragmented stories about his and other soldiers experiences that occurred in the VietnamWar. Similarly, the poem, Facing It shows a soldier who returns to the Memorial of the Vietnam War where he recalls his own trauma in the war as he looks at the stones. Both the prose, Things They Carried and the poem, Facing it conveys the similar theme where they are struggling to overcome the trauma of the war and face the reality. However, the style and the form that the poem and the prose is depicted differs from each other. The main theme of The Things They Carried is how O Brien utilizes the strategy of storytelling in order to transcend the reality so that he can convey the truths of his and other soldiers traumatic experiences. O Brien mentions in the story that after getting drafted, he flees to the the Rainy River, on the border of Canada. In actuality, O Brien never fled to the Rainy River. He did not lie so ... Each class I see the determination on each person s face to do well because there s the constant pressure of letting the rest of the band down. Because we are so small, each person has to play to the absolute best of their abilities; each individual person needs to be a strong player in order for our band to sound good. There have only been two French horn players in my band for the entirety of my high school career: myself and the number one horn player in the state, Cross. My whole life I have played second to an amazing musician but while I improved by playing with him, I also never received any recognition for my personal achievements or was ever granted the primary leadership position. Initially, the data showed that boys ages 10 12 that sampled multiple sports had significant differences in strength, speed, agility, and gross motor coordination. There also existed a positive correlation between the number of hours spent participating in sports per week and its effect on performance. Advantages of this study include that it s ability to gather data from a large population of boys from multiple age groups (6 12) and focuses on the basic components of athletic development due to anthropometry, physical fitness, and gross motor coordination. Estimation Areas of Opportunity AA Consulting observed behaviors during team meetings and estimation sessions and identified three tangible areas of opportunity for Company X. Allocating focus to these three areas will ameliorate the struggles faced during the estimation process. Equate Story Points to Effort The first opportunity is to be cognizant that story points are intended to be a measure of effort and complexity. While it may be natural to equate one story point to one hour, doing so can be cause for unreliable estimations. Company X should size stories relative to the complexity of work. For instance, while it may take a senior developer a shorter time duration to complete a story than a junior developer, the complexity of the story will not change. As a result, team members of various backgrounds and skill levels can agree (Cohn, 2015) on the story points necessary for a feature. Stopping the incorrect behavior of equating story points to duration will yield accurate estimates regardless of which team member completes the work. Include the Entire Team The second area of opportunity for Company X is to include the entire team when reaching a consensus on estimation. To accurately reflect complexity for all team members it is important they are present and engaged. While we acknowledge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(STEWE 2)Jonas looks back at all the rules that he had come to break He thought of the rules he had broken so far: enough that if he were caught, now, he would be condemned (161), this shows how it was hard for Jonas to obey the rules, this is another reason that caused Jonas to leave. (SIP B)Jonas knew he had to leave because it was for his own sake. (STEWE 1)Jonas s job has two sides, the side of loneliness and the side of truth It was clear to him what a terribly difficult and lonely life it was, despite the honor (139), the side of loneliness takes over and forces Jonas away from his life and causes him to leave. (STEWE 2)Jonas knew he had to leave that s why, He felt, surprisingly, no fear, nor any regret at leaving the community behind. • 43. Sex, Marriage, And Sexual Commitments Sex and love have changed the last few decades immensely; changing how people look at dating, marriage, and sexual commitments. Definition of dating has changed from generation to generation. Marriage has also changed and to the point that many people are putting marriage off longer. From these changes there has been a new culture that has formed. The hookup culture is the lack of commitment to a single partner, but having flings with one or more people. Dating has not been around but for nearly a hundred years. Paula England, who started the research of the hookup culture using a college survey, stated in her paper for The Family in Transition, ...the invention of dating started in the 1920s and was helped along by the automobile and commercial sports, like movie theaters, where youth would go. This gave young people more of freedom to enjoy themselves with other people of the same age. Dating was not a real cause as people had marriages arranged for class status. In the movie Mona Lisa Smile the character Betty, portrayed by Kirsten Dunst, married her college boyfriend. They mainly married as it was expected of them from the pressure of their family for their rise in class status. This is seen throughout history in marriages but has changed over the last several decades. Betty and Spencer, her husband, who were allowed to date and able to see if they were a perfect fit. Unlike that young people looking for a match had to be under supervision. ...young men often had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Neurological Approach Analysis Psychological and Neurological Approaches Introduction It has only been recently that learning and memory were considered to be of scientific relevance. It has developed over the years as more accurate ways of measuring these fields have come to the surface. Aristotle, a philosopher, was of the first few to observe and write about memory. He developed the idea of associationism which states that memory can be influenced by formations of associations or linkages between events, sensations, or ideas, so that experiencing any of these elicits a memory or anticipation of the other (Gluck, Mercado, Myers, 2014). There are three basic principles of associationism which include contiguity, frequency, and similarity. Contiguity is the experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It provides the physiological blueprint for the way our brain processes learning and memory. There are two major recent advancements in technology that help us physically see how all these parts work and function together. Structural neuroimaging is the process of creating a anatomical picture of the brain. It can show the size and shape of the brain as well as areas of lesions or brain damage (Gluck, Mercado, Myers, 2014). Common structural neuroimaging techniques used today are computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). While they all work to create a 3D image of your brain, the each have their own unique image to show. The traditional x ray only providing one image at one angle, the CT scans allow for multiple images of slices or crosses through the body and this allows you to see the anatomical structure of the body in three dimensional space (Gluck, Mercado, Myers, 2014). The MRI works in a similar way although it uses magnetic waves to create electrical currents in the brain, allowing you to create an image of size and/or shape of the brain. The newly improved MRI or the DTI measures water diffusion in the brain tissue where several groups of axons are physically viewing the connections of the brain (Gluck, Mercado, Myers, 2014). Functional neuroimaging has allowed researchers to view the activities and functions in the brain and track the amount of oxygen being carried in the blood, thus allowing them to view areas where the brain is high function or low function. Technology like the positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic imaging (fMRI) are ways in which we can psychically see these areas of activity. The method I find most intriguing is the CT scan for it was the first of its kind in brain imaging. Personally experiencing a CT scan in the past, it always amazes me how quick and accurately the ...
