Norms are unwritten socially accepted principles or rules in society that define what is normal
and what isn t. Some norms carry greater significance in our lives than others. The terminology
mores was inclined to norms that are extensively observed and hold extensive moral
significance. Mores also means taboos of society, things that are not accepted, such as chewing
with one s mouth closed is expected or eating in a sloppy way and at a fast pace is not an
acceptable behavior. Mores classify what is merited and what isn t. When a norm is violated it
is defined as deviance and even though the word deviance has a negative connotation to it, it s
not. Deviance means and individual is behaving differently from what society feels is normal

Similarities Between Hinduism And Buddhism
Learning about both Hinduism and Buddhism, particularly about the art and architecture of both
cultures made me realize they are not that different as I thought first. Both cultures are beautiful
and rich, and if someone takes a deeper look can see that they are depending on each other.
Many people forget that Buddha was born into a Hindu society, and his views and beliefs which
led to a brand new culture are based on Hinduism. Of course I am not saying the two are the same
because that wouldn t make any sense. However, the similarities are visible, just the way
differences are visible too, and these things make both cultures so amazing. First I would like to
point out some of the similarities and differences between Hindu and Buddhist faiths which I think
are important to understand their art. Both religions put karma and reincarnation into the center of

mind and into a state of relaxation and awareness. However, they do not share their gods, in

The rags to riches film, Slumdog Millionaire (2008), is a picaresque narrative about two Indian

The audience sees some characters believing that destiny will determine their fate whereas
others are searching for power in the form of influence or money. A two colour structure is used
to highlight these aspects where yellow represents hope and blue represents power. The film
opens in a golden light, which symbolises money but also the hope of becoming a millionaire.
Generally, Jamal s childhood memories are visualised in warm and bright colours that become
colder and muted as his life adverse experiences approach the present. Latika wears bright yellow
to symbolise happier times. However, when she is separated from Jamal or is being exploited
and forced into prostitution by Maman or the crime boss, Javed, she wears less yellow and the
colour is muted. In contrast, the protagonists are portrayed in dark or washed out colours in
scenes that include blue hues that signify power. The blue god Rama also symbolises the Hindu
vigilantes attacking the Muslim residents. The interrogation scenes use unusual camera angles
and lighting to further emphasise power, such as when Jamal is depicted in a dim light, but light
is shone on the top of the interrogator at the rear of the shot. Overall, India s polar society is
separated through colour and by space; where the poor wear dark, dirty clothes and live in dark,
bland houses and the wealthy wear colourful, clean clothes
