The Effects Of Arsenic Contamination On Soil Quality,...
Kerosene contamination affected soil physicochemical properties such as pH, total phosphorus and
microbial biomass which are important indicators for assessing soil quality, fertility and productivity.
Findings show that the soil used was a loamy soil and is know to belong to the alfisol series of the
USDA soil taxonomic system of classification (Ibia et al., 2002). The study shows that the higher
kerosene contamination levels, significantly delayed emergence and inhibited the germination of some
seeds. The poor emergence obtained at higher pollution levels of the oil treatment can be attributed to
poor aeration. In addition, the inhibition of germination may be due to the absorption of the oil by the
seeds, which caused them to be swollen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The decrease in the relative growth rate of Zea Mays in this study due to kerosene oil treatment of soil
shows that the oil interrupted the growth of the plant. According to Kathirvelan and Kalaiselvan
(2007) the leaf surface area determines in large part the amount of carbon gained through
photosynthesis and the amount of water lost through transpiration and ultimately the crop yield.
Reduction in the leaf and plant height as was observed in this study implies that there would be low
photosynthetic efficiency of the plant as much of the solar energy emitted by the sun would not be
absorbed by plant for photosynthesis. This definitely leads to low yield of the plant with subsequent
low availability of food and poor economy due to low sales of such plant s products. Since the relative
growth rate measures the efficiency of seedling (Brand, 1991), the reduction in the relative growth rate
of Zea mays reported in this study imply that kerosene oil reduces the efficiency of the plant.
This study also shows that Zea mays did better in the polluted soil left for six months than in the
polluted soil left for three months and than the soil polluted and immediately planted on. This
confirms that with time, natural biodegradation occur and the kerosene polluted environment has
ability to purify itself, if and only if the source of pollutant is not intermittent.
Figure 1 to 6 shows that the lower kerosene contaminated soil did better than the

Rose For Emily
In William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily the story of an eccentric southern aristocrat from
the view of the community she lives in. the story opens with the death of the main character, Miss
Emily Grierson. Faulkner described Miss Emily s life circumstances through a series of flash backs.
Faulkner explains his story is an example of a person having their hopes and aspirations for their life
dashed over time, and only later to realize how through poor decision making, they have broken every
value and belief they hold, then proceeding to punish themselves indefinitely.
Brooks and Warren begin by approaching the story from the psychological mindset of Miss Emily.
They point out without finding the meaning behind Miss Emily s actions, the story is merely a story of
abnormal psychology. By being able to understand where the motives came from for Miss Emily s
actions the reader is much more able to see that Miss Emily was not just a mentally disturbed
individual with no real cause for her condition. The idea that Miss Emily refuses to submit to the
group mentality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fetterley contends that the story is that of a male dominated past and future, and a woman who is
oppressed and victimized by her society systems. In life, Miss Emily s father had been able to keep
her as a possession and control her life. In his death, the community of Jefferson stepped into that role.
Miss Emily was more considered as an object than a person to most everyone her entire life. Fetterley
points out the real wrong done to Miss Emily was in making her a Miss . In the act of making Emily a
lady certain characteristics and beliefs are immediately associated with Miss Emily. It is these beliefs
of what a lady is and does that allows Miss Emily to murder Homer with poison bought at the drug
store without so much as a raised eyebrow. The thought of a lady committing murder never crosses the

Golf 101 Golf Essay
Golf 101
Golf is the one of the hardest sports to play in the world, I know all you think golf is, is just hitting a
golf ball with a golf club, but it s not, it s way more difficult then that. Today, I will be teaching you
how to play one of the toughest games in the world, golf. I m going to teach you what golf is, also
how to keep track of your golf score, and teach you the different type of golf shots and clubs.
Now I m going to tell you what golf is. Golf is a sport that is played outside, not inside. There is a
small hard ball, which is white, but can be different colors, and it s called a golf ball. You use a golf
club to hit the golf ball. The whole point of golf is to get the golf ball into the hole, in the fewest hits.
On a regular golf course there s 18 holes, but sometimes you might find a golf course with 9 holes,
and you just play the first 9 again.
The scoring system is lot different than just other sports scores, usually you ... Show more content on

According to Golfweek, the most popular golf shots are the drive, the approach, the chip, and the putt.
The driver is used to hit the drive, you usually use your driver on the tee off. The approach is used
with different kind of golf irons, it just depends on how far your out from the hole. The popular
approach irons are the 4,5,6,7,8, and sometimes the 9. The lower numbered irons are the irons you can
hit further, the higher numbered irons are the irons you can t hit as far as the lower irons. A chip is a
shot that is used around the green and the club to use is the pitching wedge. The pitching wedge is
used for the chip because it has a higher loft, meaning the ball can get really high, and have a lot of
spin. Finally, the putt, the putt is a shot where the ball is on the green, and you re trying to roll the ball
into the cup. A putt is used with a putter, the putter is used because the putter doesn t make the ball fly
in the air, it makes it stay on the

The Terror Of The Islamic State
In the aftermath of a violent event, people often ask, Why? However, the question of what motivates
people to both engage in and support violence remains a puzzle and is the subject of much debate.
Within that broader question, there is a particular lack of understanding of how groups with extreme
views that support violence motivate supporters. The Islamic State (also referred to as ISIS or ISIL) is
perhaps the most salient terrorist group today in light of recent, high profile attacks such as those in
Belgium and Paris. However, Islamist ideology is not the only threat. Domestic right wing groups can
also motivate violent action on their behalf. The recent occupation of an Oregon wildlife refuge by an
armed group led by Ammon Bundy brought renewed media attention to right wing militia movements.
The Three Percenters, their name referring to the supposed 3% of the colonists who took up arms in
the American Revolution, are one such militia group. They are primarily motivated by the preservation
of private gun ownership and are preparing to resist any perceived threats to their constitutional rights.
There is a rapidly growing literature on this process of radicalization. Though there is no single cause,
and violent behavior does not necessarily follow radical attitudes that support the use of violence
(Neumann 2013; Leuprecht et al. 2010), little is known regarding the actual causal mechanisms (Silke
2008). In the media and popular discussion, the Internet is often cited

The Coffee Shop
Mackenzie had just stormed in and slammed the door when she heard the phone ring. What? She
gritted out. Aren t you just a ray of sunshine today? Came the teasing voice followed by the all too
familiar chuckle. Mackenzie took a deep breath to calm herself. She needed to suppress her rage in
order to keep this facade successful. Sorry about that. Did you need something? Sort of. It s kind of
hard to explain on the phone. Do you mind if we meet in person? Say, tomorrow at the coffee shop at

She shut the television screen off and went in her room to devise an improved and more foolproof
plan. She came to a stop when she remembered her promise to Oliver and cursed under her breath.
The conceited idiot was a dim witted fool and downright rejecting him was out of the question. Oliver
Thompson was arrogant and narcissistic. He was also the rumored partner of Mackenzie before her
escape. So in order to keep her image a little less distorted than people viewed it to be, she was forced
to be in this relationship. But poor Oliver seemed to be just as blind as the public. Mackenzie had to
admit, she got quite lucky in some aspects of the situation. She held this opinion because Oliver was
nothing but a pretty face. He was a small town actor and met Mackenzie through a movie about 20
years ago. His connection with her then led him to have a larger recognition in Hollywood. But by the
time Mackenzie got back, he was a full on hearthrob. Not that she found this appealing in any way.
She had heard the actual Mackenzie Jones and Oliver were very much in love or something of the sort,
yet he still didn t seem to realize that the woman he claimed to be so fond of was long gone and
instead replaced by an imposter. Dean Jacobs was on set today, and I must say, it was quite an
awkward encounter. I mean, I don t

Character Analysis Of Jack Streicher
For Jack Streicher, religion has always been a dominant force in his life. The eldest of three, raised in
a traditional Catholic environment in Cincinnati, religion, family, and school have always been
intertwined. He attended a Catholic high school and wanted to attend a Catholic college as well.
Religion has been constant for him; he described moments where it was hard for him to have faith, but
he never lost sight of the bigger picture and believes that God has a plan and will take care of us. He is
deeply connected with religion as an ethical call to go beyond the self. Religion, from his point of
view, is selfless. He hopes to used his religion to help others, which in turns helps him grow spiritually
and develop a strong character. For some, religion is going to church and practicing the ceremony of
worshiping with others. Jack, on the other hand, does not find meaning in the ceremony of religion,
but the practice outside of the church. When describing his religion, he stated, the order of mass does
not do much for me, I find meaning in going out and making connections with others. For him,
practicing faith is going out of his way to make everyone feel welcomed and comfortable, establishing
his religion as a prominent aspect of his overall personality. Because Jack does not see the importance
of the order of religion, he has no particular place of event attached to his religion; Jack s religion is
on a much more personal level. His religion is an inward force

Introduction: Climate change is a real issue that can lead to severe economic losses to the public and
private sectors of the U.S., not mentioning human casualties. This report focuses on the general effects
of the climate change in the economic sector affecting businesses specifically in the Southeastern
region of the U.S. and Texas. Climate change will cost millions of dollars in labor productivity
decline, energy demand will significantly increase, and the agricultural sector will suffer considerably
losses.
General Trends
The southeastern United States and Texas will face significant economic risks from the continuous
climate change. The risks vary from different states, which will be explained in general. Texas is going
to be focused deeply in separate. Despite the variability in each region, we can identify some general
trends in how the states in the southeastern United States and Texas will react to the climate change.
Increasing heat: the southeastern region of the U.S. is more likely to have a considerably rise in
temperature than any other region of the nation. Residents may have two to four times more days with

Humans are no longer depended on in some jobs due to robots, or intelligent machines. Daily
activities conducted by humans are now taken over by automated workers or just machines that can
perform the task. When you go to the grocery store, for example, Walmart, you see self check out
stations. Do you use the self check out or do you go to a regular line with a worker? If you go to the
self check out is it because it s convenient to you? Or do you go to the worker because they do the
work for you? In the essay prompt there was three given perspectives. The first perspective stated that
with these intelligent machines becoming more frequent, that we are ridding of humanity. For

Turn of the screw Essay
The Turn of the Screw Henry James, the famous author of The Turn of the Screw was born on April
15, 1843 to his wealthy parents Henry James and Mary Walsh. His father, also called Henry James,
was an Irish immigrant and by the time his own children were born he had inherited a lot of money
from his father; and at this time Henry James senior and his family were living in New York. Henry
James author of The Turn Of The Screw was one of five children and had an older brother William
who was born in 1942 he had four younger siblings also; Garth Wilkinson born 1845, Robertson born

Maybe this was the actual start of The Turn Of The Screw . At the time the book was written it was the
late 19th century, Victorian era; and at the time Victorians were fascinated by ghosts a perfect reason
to write a psychological ghost story. The Victorians were convinced ghosts were dangerous though,
evil spirits believed either to get them, to possess the living or to do the devil s work. People in the
19th century were also intrigued by the after life, including what happened when you actually died.
Henry James family was also included in this. This would give Henry James a perfect reason to write
the novella aimed at a huge proportion of people who would be actually interested in reading a book
involving ghosts. As The Turn of the Screw was written in the 19th century when most of his family
were famous and praised for their study of the mind and investigations into spirit phenomena, this
could have inspired Henry to write the story. The fact that his older brother was famous and successful
man when it came to psychology and physiology may have contributed to sibling rivalry. Henry had
written novels that hadn t sold well and had written plays that were far too intellectual for many of the
general public to even watch. Writing a psychological ghost story in a spirit obsessed era when his
family were renowned for their knowledge seems to be best explanation as to why the novella was
written. The whereabouts of the actual tale has real evidence because in one

The I Chose For My Close Reading Assignment Comes From...
The pericope I chose for my close reading assignment comes from Revelation chapter 22 verses 1 6.
When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short verses there is
evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed
me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is just
one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because it has examples of
determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history moving forward towards a conclusion.
The last evidence of this pericope being apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old
and New Ages. The entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the
old age to a close. Trying to find the boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially
when excluding chapter numbers from making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the
restoration God will do, including the New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the
Garden of Eden will the garden be inside of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in
verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the
restoration was clear that it was the New Jerusalem. Would John, the author, chunk the pericope as
both chapter 21 and chapter 22:1 5? While the chosen pericope starts talking about the

Producers strategies (major label and independent) History Modern music videos were initially made
and used as a publicizing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. They are often
called promos . In 1940, Walt Disney created Fantasia , an animated film based around famous piece
of classical music. The original music videos were shot in the 1950s. In 1956 Tony Bennett was
shooting walking along The Serpentine in Hyde Park as his song Stranger in Paradise played. This
was dispersed to TV stations in the UK and US. The Beatles first major motion picture A hard Day s
Night in 1964 arguably set out the basic visual vocabulary of today s music videos. Penny Lane in
1967 used methods derived from underground and avant garde film to exemplify the song in an artful
manner. 1970s In the UK the significance of Top of the Pops to promote a single created an
environment of revolution and competition amongst bands and record labels as the show s producers
placed strict limits on the number of videos it would use, consequently a good video would increase a
song s sales. Queen s Bohemian Rhapsody also started a whole new age for using music videos as
promos. 1980s 1981 MTV is launched. The first video to be aired was Buggles Video Killed the Radio

Seven Deadly Sins In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet...
From the beginning of time there has been the idea of God and the sins that God has applied. There
are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that
shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false
witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers (Proverbs 6:16 19). The
seven deadly sins are pride, gluttony, sloth, envy, greed, anger, and lust.
Pride is the excessive belief that one person has so much belief in himself and his abilities, that it
interferes with the person s realization of the grace of God. Pride is also known for the excessive pride
in one s achievements, or in other words, vanity.
Gluttony is to eat and drink more than one person requires. Sloth is extreme laziness and not wanting
to do anything.
Envy is the desire to have another person s qualities or abilities and this is very sinful because it shows
you are not happy with what you have and want what other people have.
Greed is to get and keep more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

believe that America will never achieve racial and social equality. There are many reasons that follow
behind this belief. Reasons and information on this subject will state why people America will never

Races should treat each others the way they want the other race to treat them. To me that is so
disrespectful how people in general treat each other. Judging is another major topic don t judge a book
by its cover. I feel as if we stopped this and ended racial equality more social between people could
happen. This is the century we have to change what we believe in. As difficult times are ahead of us
and approach us. This is when a we need to change. This is when we need to make a move so a lot of
change can stat happening. Not for the better of one race but for the better of every race and everyone
in general. We need to end this racial prejudice all together its becoming too much and too many
movements are happening in effect of it. A lot of acts happened during the civil rights movements.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was the main host of most of the acts that happened during this time. He

Sitting Bull
Sitting Bull, the legendary chief of American Indian, who was described as a great warrior with many
great fighting virtues of bravery, strength and insight. People cannot talk about Sitting Bull without
mentioning the historic war known as the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Around 1831, a child was born in Hunkpapa Lakota, a tribe of Sioux residing in Grand River known
as present day Dakota for a very long time. That child was named Jumping Badger by his family;
however, because of quiet and , everyone called him Slow during the boyhood. At the age of 10, that
young boy killed his first buffalo and gave meat away to elders who could not hunt anymore. The next
four years, he joined his first war party and struck a Crow warrior with a tomahawk. Celebrating for
the child s bravery and equanimity, the father gave him a name as Tatanka Iyotanka, which meant
Sitting Bull. Sitting Bull became the leader of the Strong Heart Society by the age of 25, and soon had
a successful war record in fighting against Crows, Blackfeets, Assiniboins, Fladheads and many other
enemies. Being extremely famous of courage and fighting skills, his followers always entered the fight
with this yelling: Sitting Bull! I am he. The reputation of Sitting Bull widely spread with the conflicts
between Sioux and US military in Pacific Northern railroad. Meanwhile, he became a holy man and
medicine man as well. It was in 1868 when Sitting Bull reached the peak of his fame

Why Is Warriors DonT Cry Turning Point
In life there is a time when you face your turning point. Warriors Don t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals,
Dragonwings by Lawrence Yep, and Hatchet by Gary Paulsen can demonstrate what a turning point is.
A turning point is when there is a moment or big event in your life where you can not control anything
that happens. In the stories and books they wrote, all their characters experienced a life changing
turning point. The main characters of Hatchet, Warriors Don t Cry, and Dragonwings had struggles,
they had to adapt to their turning points, and they succeeded in challenges they confronted. Warriors

The Clinical Plan For Post Knee Arthroplasty Rehabilitation
The clinical scenario presented by Sarah is very interesting and has got every chance a physical
therapist might face such similar situation in outpatient clinical practice. When a patient comes for
post knee arthroplasty rehabilitation, the physical therapist can often get too much focused on therapy
goals and overlook important clinical signs and symptoms that must be addressed and referred in a
timely manner. A weight gain of 20 pounds in 18 days was not a good indication of Mr. Knee s general
health status. Presence of localized edema is common to see in knee arthroplasty patients. However,
this patient has 2+ pitting edema even after taking Lasix 40 mg twice a day. The evaluation did not
specify more about of swelling, whether it has any increased or decreased depends upon the time of
the day. A weight gain of 2 pounds or more in 48 hours must be considered as a red flag, which may
be an indication of heart failure. Vital signs assessment consistently demonstrated higher blood
pressure and heart rate. The evaluation is not clearly indicative of exercise induced asthma for patient.
Weight gain, consistent higher levels of blood pressure and heart rate along with exercise induced
exertion can be signs of acute cardiac failure. According to King, Kingery Casey, 2012, heart failure is
a common clinical syndrome characterized by dyspnea, fatigue, and signs of volume overload, which

This case highlights Kimi Ford, a portfolio manager with NorthPoint Group, a mutual fund
management firm. She managed the NorthPoint Large Cap Fund, and in July of 2001, was looking at
the possibility of taking a position in Nike for her fund. Nike stock had declined significantly over the

In order to be more confident in her forecast, she asked her assistant to estimate Nike s cost of capital.
Nike s Estimated Cost of Capital
Ms. Ford s assistant estimated Nike s cost of capital to be 8.4%. This is based on four main
assumptions. First, a single cost of capital for all of Nike s various business segments will be
sufficient, rather than using a business segment specific cost of capital. Seeing as footwear made up
62% of revenues, and that all the significant segments were sport related, the assistant felt that the risk
factors were similar for all of the business segments. Next, since Nike was funded through both debt
and equity, the WACC was used to calculate the cost of capital. Third, the cost of debt was estimated
to be 4.3%. This was calculated by taking the interest expense for the entire year of 2001 and dividing
it by Nike s average debt balance. Tax adjusted, the cost of debt is 2.7%; this uses a tax rate of 38%
based on a state tax of 3% and the U.S. statutory tax rate. Lastly, the CAPM was used to estimate the
cost of equity. Using the current yield of the 20 year Treasury bond as the risk free rate, the compound
average premium of the market over Treasury bonds as the risk premium, and the average of Nike s
betas from 1996 to 2000 as the beta, Nike s cost of equity was estimated to be 10.5%.
Validity of the Assumptions

nuclear fission is uranium atoms. A neutron is released at a targeted nucleus of uranium 235. Two or

in the picture below. This process starts a chain reaction. If too many neutrons are present, the reaction
may get out of control. If too few are present, the reaction may stop.
Nuclear Fission
Nuclear fission is almost the same thing as fission, but nuclear fission has one minor difference; its
purpose is to produce energy. Fission is the main chemistry behind nuclear reactors and the power
plant as a whole. Radiation is another addition to the chemistry involved in the production of nuclear
power. The unstable atoms in the fission process give off radiation. This produces a risk in ... Show

It turns out, they re really just the opposite! The water that is used to condense the steam back into
water inside the condenser has consequently been heated in the process of cooling. Environmental
laws regulate the temperature that a Power Plant can place back into the river. The primary reason is
due to plant life. The cooling water from the condenser is sprayed into the air inside the cooling tower
and falls about 60 feet, which cools it before it is continuously recycled to condense more steam.
Water in the vapor rising from the cooling tower is replenished to the condenser cooling system using
water from the Tennessee River. The three water systems at Sequoyah are separate from each other,
and the radioactive water is not permitted to mix with other nonradioactive water

King Arthur Essay
King Arthur Character Analysis
Although King Arthur is one of the most well known figures in the world, his true identity remains a
mystery. Attempts to identify the historical Arthur have been unsuccessful, since he is largely a
product of fiction. Most historians, though, agree that the real Arthur was probably a battle leader of
the Britons against the Anglo Saxons in the sixthth century. In literature, King Arthur s character is
unique and ever changing, taking on a different face in every work. There is never a clearly definitive
picture that identifies Arthur s character. It is therefore necessary to look at a few different sources to
get better insight into the character of Arthur, the once and future king. ... Show more content on

This work contains all of the most famous Arthurian elements such as the Sword in the Stone, the
magical Merlin, and the love affair between Lancelot and Guinevere. But it was Wace, who using
Geoffrey s work was first to mention Arthur s Round Table and amplify the belief in Arthur s return
from Avilon, or the Isle of Avalon.

King Arthur s character has many faces. He is shown to be kind, wise and generous on one hand, yet
at the same time, he can be seen as a weak king who is stubborn, childish, and unable to make wise
decisions for himself or for the good of the court. He is described by Nennius as a powerful warrior,
who is able to personally slay 960 men in one charge. Wace shows him possessing leadership qualities
as he establishes the Round Table to ensure that justice and peace prevail. In Celtic legends, Arthur is
a supernatural hero who battles giants, monsters, and witches. He kills the Demon Cat of Losanne and
hunts the boar Twrch Truyth driving him into the sea. (Camelot and Arthurian Legend: Arthur online

Enzymes Essay
Enzymes
Enzymes are biological catalysts that carry out thousands of chemical reactions that occur in living
cells. They are a class of proteins that have a unique three dimensional structure that allows it to bind
with a specific substrate to facilitate a
reaction. Many biological reactions will not occur spontaneously in the cell; there is simply not
enough energy for the reaction to take place. Enzymes make these
reactions possible by lowering the reaction s activation energy. Each cell has tens of thousands of
different enzymes that collectively allow both the break down and synthesis of molecules to drive all
cellular processes.
This investigation will explore the effect of pH ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These biological catalysts are important because they speed up the rate of the reaction they catalyze
that would otherwise be too slow to support life. Catalase is an enzyme present in the cells of plants,
animals and aerobic (oxygen requiring) bacteria. It promotes the conversion of hydrogen peroxide, a
powerful and potentially harmful oxidizing agent, to water and molecular oxygen.
2H2O2 to 2H2O + O2
Catalase also uses hydrogen peroxide to oxidize toxins including phenols, formic acid, formaldehyde
and alcohols.
H2O2 + RH2 to 2H2O + R
Where is it found and what does it do?
Catalase is located in a cell organelle called the peroxisome. Peroxisomes in animal cells are involved
in the oxidation of fatty acids, and the synthesis of cholesterol and bile acids. Hydrogen peroxide is a
byproduct of fatty acid oxidation. White blood cells produce hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria. In
both cases catalase prevents the hydrogen peroxide from harming the cell itself. Peroxisomes in plant
cells are involved in photorespiration (the use of oxygen and production of carbon dioxide) and
symbiotic nitrogen fixation (the breaking apart of the nitrogen molecule N2 to reactive nitrogen
atoms). Hydrogen peroxide is produced as an intermediate during these chemical

Early American Feudalism
We may never know when the first people step foot on the United States. In North America the first

and the pre Columbian era. The belief for a long time is that the first people to arrive in the new world
did not come fame, fortune or even freedom. They came because they were hungry. The Paleo Indians
developed many languages, have many belief systems and made spears from stone and set up kill

In the decline, some nations were becoming more powerful. There are four particular causes of this
decline. The first is an economic change where there began an expanded trade system. Several trading
posts earned riches, and they also set up long distance trade routes. Adam Smith and some of the
Merchants did start the theory called mercantilism. Mercantilism means that the profits that were
made from the business are based on the volume of its trade. The second was religious because the
Europeans arrived looking for riches from the new world and the quest for wealth and power. In the
midst of their search, they were also extorting the expensive items from the Catholic Church which
begins the start of the crusades on the lands that was controlled by the Muslims. The third and the
most significant was the biological or The Black Death. The Black Death is most commonly known as
the bubonic plague which spread quickly did actually contributed a great deal to the feudalism in that

Analysis Of Fernand Leger s The Divers
With most of the 20 elements and principles evident in the painting The Divers (Red and Black) by
Fernand Leger, we can achieve a better understanding and cohesiveness of this piece. Additionally,
alongside with his other paintings, the medium used for this painting was also oil on canvas. In this
painting, Leger incorporates a specific style called Cubism and incorporates a strong simple imagery.
The artist s personal style consists of bold use of color while combining his art as something that
everyone can enjoy. A brief formal analysis of this painting will show us how he used the main
principle of emphasis to showcase the characteristics of the human body progressing in space. In order
to demonstrate these specific characteristics, Leger incorporates many different types of elements into
this piece. In this painting, color plays an important role. The shapes of the blue squares contrast
altogether with the other shapes and also, with the mutated beige background. Leger uses numerous
colors such as the neon yellow, red, blue, black, and green in order to reveal that the colors are free
and therefore, these colors exist in space. As mentioned earlier, this painting included a variety of
different shapes; there are two different types of shape that can be seen in this painting. The first type
is geometric or regular shapes such as the squares, circles, and rectangles. The second, on the other
hand, are organic and freeform shapes such as the feet, hands, and face. Next, Leger incorporates
many lines throughout this portrait. From curved lines to a single horizontal line, Leger includes each
different type to develop a sense of movement, or rhythm. The curved lines makes the viewer s eyes
circle around the piece to further realize the symbolism. For space, Leger leaves many of the corner as
negative space. However, the corners of this painting are not the only ones Leger leaves as space.
Because the shapes and colors are kept simple, there s also quite a series of distance between the
shapes even throughout the whole entire painting. Again, because of the simplicity of the shapes, even
the texture of this painting can be seen as smooth. The painting does not involve any harsh or rugged
lines, and is

Organization s Model Of Health Care Performance, Quality...
The purpose of this paper is to discuss my organization s model of health care performance, quality
assessment, and management. Improving the quality of health care in the United States is necessary
(Sherwood Zomorodi, 2014). According to Huber (2014), based on measurable criteria, health care
quality is knowing whether care resulted in expected clinic outcomes. Health care quality and safety
are part of Saint Mary s Medical Center s mission, vision and culture. For instance, the organization s
vision statement includes delivering high quality health care services in compliance with all applicable
rules, regulations, and standards, which calls for system wide quality improvement (SMMC, 2016).
Furthermore, the organization stresses that all employees are responsible for identifying opportunities
for improvement (SMMC, 2015). Moreover, it is important to note, nurses are bound by their Code of
Ethics to protect the health and safety of patients (Huber, 2014). Organizational Quality Program,
Goals, and Structure Saint Mary s Medical Center s quality goals include patient centered care that
improves patient outcomes, patient safety, and reduces health care cost (SMMC, 2015). The
organization s mission, vision, and quality improvement goals ensure accountability of all employees,
for examples reducing falls, pressure ulcers, and central line associated bloodstream infections
(SMMC, 2015). The organization not only focuses on accreditation and regulatory compliance

The Fountainhead Gail Wynand Character Analysis
The book The Fountainhead written by Ayn Rand, has many characters whose backgrounds paved the
various themes of this particular novel. As the protagonist of the story, Roark Howard goes against the
conformity that most of the other characters allege with. Coincidentally, some of the other characters
follow suit in immoral ways, not because they want to, but because they feel it is the only way to
survive. Among the culprits of this description falls this character who appears later in the story: Gail
Wynand. Being head of this newspaper, The Banner, Wyand panders in an unethical manner because
he wants to publish what will consistently bring cash, what is uniformly wanted, and he covers it up to
deem it overall justifiable. As many newspapers, the goal is to notify the public of current
phenomenon that had occurred on a public level. Wynand s papper The Banner held this interest too.

do this he conformed to the public in ways that made the unethical seem alright to immerse in. Wyand

A Brief Note On The Largest Open Mall Center
Our town, like most, has one, two, or more large enclosed shopping malls, plus several strip centers.
The largest open mall in town is not far from our house and is the one my wife shop at most often. It is
a large open shopping area with buildings in clusters of two, to six. There is ample parking, and two or
more of the stores is accessible from each parking space. The complex is anchored by a twelve screen
theater, and three big box stores. The variety of merchandise will rival any of the large enclosed malls.
Here you can find everything, clothing, household items, food, auto parts, sports and hardware. Unlike
the enclosed malls this shopping center has the largest number national chain restaurants in town,
along with a cafeteria, donut shop, and several locally owned eateries. There is in one art gallery that
also serves coffee and a selection of teas, a hobby shop and three places that sell art supplies, which
we both use. One of our favorite stores is a Bakery chain store, they not only have the best tasting
coffee they, have the largest assortment of goodies to go with it. For lunch, they serve a choice of
sandwiches, salads and soups. At dinnertime, they add a great choice of pizza and beer, plus the
sandwich menu. Three doors south of the Bakery is a large pet store that my wife and I often visit. We
do not own one, but we enjoy looking at the fish, ferrets, and rodents. The store does not sell cats or

Seasonal And Spatial Variation Of Diffuse ( Non Point )...
0A.P. Jarvis Seasonal and spatial variation of diffuse (non point) source zinc pollution in a historically
metal mined river catchment, UK. 1. Introduction: Gozzard et al s. (2011) study focuses on the
importance of each, point source and diffuse (non point) zinc (Zn) pollution in the River West Allen
Catchment (RWAC) in the North Pennine Ore field. The River West Allen (RWA) has been subject to
historical Zinc mining which came to a halt in the 1970 s but has consequently left abandoned Zinc
mines which contributes as a source of pollution to the River West Allen (RWA) (Gozzard et al. 2011).

Thus, calculating the contribution of diffuse Zinc sources into the river. 2. Results and Discussion: By
using the techniques above to measure Zinc concentrations at high and low flow for 15 months,
Gozzard et al. (2011) found that point source Zinc pollution plays a role in discharging Zinc into RWA
but is more prominent during low flow events. This is due to exposure of shafts during low flow
which in turn encourages exchange between ground and surface waters. Gozzard et al. (2011) uses
Vink et al. s (1999) statement that the interaction between surface water and ground water is a major
pathway for contaminant transfer , thus using the statement to justify a similar mechanism in the
RWAC at low flow. In addition, during low flow conditions, the RWA is supersaturated with minerals
which results in a sink for zinc, which explains that the reduction of Zinc is likely due to the
adsorption of Zinc onto the river s sediment. Gozzard et al. (2011) conclude that point source mine
discharge is the biggest contributor of Zinc in the RWA during low flow conditions. However, during
high flow, point source mine discharge into the river is not as significant due to the dilution effect of
the water on zinc in the river. However, in the middle part of the catchment, a steady rise occurs which
suggests that diffuse sources of Zinc are present. As previously stated, formerly deposited and/or
adsorbed Zinc on surface rock during low flow may be

Preventing Obesity among School Children through Healthier...
Preventing Obesity Among School Children through Healthier School Meals
Obesity and overweight are among the pressing health problems among children and adolescents in
the developed world.
Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat whereas overweight can be measured by the BMI index
or height weight ratio.
According to the WHO (2012), obesity and overweight are the fifth largest risk for global deaths.
Introduction
Obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has increased to more than a third of children
and adolescents (CDC, 2012).
Children and adolescents consume 700 to 1000 more calories per day than required (NCCOR, 2012).
School lunches mostly consist of fried and salty foods, which has prompted ex military officers to call
for legislation on healthy school lunches (Spillius, 2010).
Problem Identification
Such children are likely to have higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later years (CDC,
2012).
Obesity in children and adolescents can lead to greater susceptibility to the following in later years:
Asthma
High blood pressure
Bone and joint problems
Sleep apnea
Low self esteem
Problem Identification
Children and adolescents often resort to unhealthy ways of controlling weight including: Crash diets
Binge eating, leading to bulimia nervosa Starvation Drugs, e.g. cocaine Laxatives
Hence, there is a need to develop healthy ways of controlling obesity in children.

Professional Athletes Should Be Allowed At The Olympic Games
With the multi billions of dollars that the Olympics earn and spend, it s certainly is in the best interest
of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remain under the circumstances of keeping sport
open to professional athletes, not only financially, but as well as the majority of their viewers. In this
position statement, I will use historic International Olympic Committee guidelines (1964) and official
IOC reports as a basis for proving that professional athletes should be allowed to participate in the
Olympic Games.
To successfully understand what differentiates a professional athlete from an amateur athlete, and the
issues that arise from it, we must understand how the International Olympic Committee defines a
professional and amateur athlete. According to the Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic
Committee published in 1964,
a person was only eligible to participate in the Olympic games if they were an advocate for sport,
without material gain of any kind. He does not qualify:
a) If he has not a basic occupation designed to insure his insure his present and future livelihood;
b) If he receives or has received remuneration for participation in sport ;
c) If he does not comply with the Rules of the International Federation concerned, and the official
interpretations of this Rule number 26 . (Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic
Committee,1964. p. 5)
If the Olympics were restricted to only amateur athletes, the my country is better

Can Utilitarianism Be Defended Against The Injustice...
Can Utilitarianism be defended against the Injustice Objection? In this essay, I will argue that
utilitarianism cannot be defended against the injustice objection. Utilitarians may be able to reply to
the injustice objection in some cases by invoking one of two replies, the Long term consequences
reply, in which utilitarians will avoid unjust actions that increase short term utility because in the long
term they will not lead to the greatest good. The other reply that may help utilitarianism avoid
injustice in some cases is the Secondary principles reply, where some rule based principles such as not
murdering (because it generally decreases happiness) may avoid injustice. However, I will focus on
the bite the bullet objection, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is in the case of R v Dudley and Stephens (1884), where Dudley, Stephens, and
Brookes ate the cabin boy Parker, after they were shipwrecked for 24 days at sea. Although this act
maximised utility for the most people, Parker s rights were infringed upon as he did not agree to being
killed and eaten. Therefore when we add up the pain and pleasures of all those affected we may end up
infringing someone s rights. The act that maximises utility may cause unhappiness and misery for the
minority.
There are three standard replies to the injustice objection. The first being the Long term consequences
objection, where a person following utilitarianism is not obligated to commit an injustice, and that
person should take into account the long term consequences of their actions. An example I would like
to refer to is the harvesting organs example. Where there are five sick people in hospital and they all
need organ transplants, at the same time a sixth patient is undergoing a routine checkup. A transplant
surgeon finds that the only way of saving the five would be to kill the sixth person and harvest their
organs. Utilitarianism would state that we should harvest the organs of person 6 without his
permission to save the lives of the five other people who are dying. A utilitarian would explain that the
action of

arhcitecture specifically, it seems Debords predictions have bled into the culture of modern design, as
expressed by Anthony Vidler: Recent proposals and debates over the architectutural devlopment of

architecture has been gradually reduced to the symbolic and the emblematic. Its forms of expresion
are no longer closely tied back to urban issues and physical planning questions. (Toward a theory of

bear out Guy Debords 1964 anticipation of an all pervading spectacle culture where in essense, we

out over contemplation . ( nordic from on aestehtics and function in architecture page 1. ) , with focus

Abstract Colorimetric assay is a process of determining a concentration of a solution based on
absorbance of light. The purpose of this lab is to determine if the Bradford assay is an accurate way to
determine an unknown concentration of two samples of protein. The Bradford assay is done by
measuring wavelength of light passing through a cuvette filled with Bradford dye and concentrations
of PBS and proteins. After the cuvettes are mixed they are placed into a spectrophotometer to measure
wavelength. The wavelength given will be used to plot a standard curve based on concentration (x
axis) and wavelength (y axis). The standard curve is then used to measure an educated guess on the
concentrations of unknown protein concentrations. We hypothesized that if we use the Bradford assay
and colorimetric spectrophotometry we can determine an accurate concentration of two unknown
concentrations of proteins. The results of this lab failed to reject our hypothesis based on accurate
measurements of protein concentrations. The standard curves are drawn with a linear increasing slope.
The Bradford assay is an accurate way to demine the concentration of an unknown concentration.

managing, an entity that does not belong to him. His purpose is to build up the organisation, by means
that are similar to larger firms. (Burns, 2007) However there are some exceptions from that

manage a business he owns together with a business associate and therefore has not complete control

the following types: Either it is an entrepreneurial firm, where the owner manager or entrepreneur is in
exclusive control, organizes production, borrows funds and retains any residual returns from his work.
Or it is a managerial firm, where the individual that has the right to residual returns remains outside

In my family, nursing has become a sort of legacy. At a certain point in my childhood, I wasn t sure
that I could be or do anything else. A nursing career felt safe; it was familiar, stable, and at a young
age, I felt that I d heard all the good, bad, and ugly. However, it wasn t until I began preparing to apply
to nursing school that I wondered if I really wanted this to become my career, until I began asking
myself if all the trials and tribulations of both nursing school and the profession were worth it and if I

I reflected on my experiences in the home and hospital settings, and I d come to see the most

Scientific Ethics And Scientific Research
Scientific research is a broad range of activities undertaken in systematic ways to advance knowledge
and understandings. It benefits society based on the expectation that researches are conducted
honestly, accurately and fairly. According to the conventional view, scientific research is a highly
logical process, conducted objectively by scientists, inspected by peer scrutiny. However, it is not
unusual that researchers fail to fulfill the expectation, which will be considered as scientific
misconduct. Currently, scientific misconduct is defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in
proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results .
1. Fabrication, sometimes referred as dry labbing , is an intentional behavior to make up results for
experiments that never occurs, which considered as highly unethical.
2. Falsification is defined as publishing misleading facts of experimentations or results, researchers
wilfully distort results to support hypothesis.
3. Plagiarism is often referred to pass other person s ideas, results or words without giving appropriate
credit.
These misconducts have significant effects. They will waste money and other resources, might even
pose potential risk to human health. In recent scandals such as Haruko Obokata s falsified results in
STAP cells and Jan Hendrik Schön s fabricated results in semiconductors, misconducts are not only
debarred those scientists, also damaged the pristine image of science and

  • 2. The Effects Of Arsenic Contamination On Soil Quality,... Kerosene contamination affected soil physicochemical properties such as pH, total phosphorus and microbial biomass which are important indicators for assessing soil quality, fertility and productivity. Findings show that the soil used was a loamy soil and is know to belong to the alfisol series of the USDA soil taxonomic system of classification (Ibia et al., 2002). The study shows that the higher kerosene contamination levels, significantly delayed emergence and inhibited the germination of some seeds. The poor emergence obtained at higher pollution levels of the oil treatment can be attributed to poor aeration. In addition, the inhibition of germination may be due to the absorption of the oil by the seeds, which caused them to be swollen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decrease in the relative growth rate of Zea Mays in this study due to kerosene oil treatment of soil shows that the oil interrupted the growth of the plant. According to Kathirvelan and Kalaiselvan (2007) the leaf surface area determines in large part the amount of carbon gained through photosynthesis and the amount of water lost through transpiration and ultimately the crop yield. Reduction in the leaf and plant height as was observed in this study implies that there would be low photosynthetic efficiency of the plant as much of the solar energy emitted by the sun would not be absorbed by plant for photosynthesis. This definitely leads to low yield of the plant with subsequent low availability of food and poor economy due to low sales of such plant s products. Since the relative growth rate measures the efficiency of seedling (Brand, 1991), the reduction in the relative growth rate of Zea mays reported in this study imply that kerosene oil reduces the efficiency of the plant. This study also shows that Zea mays did better in the polluted soil left for six months than in the polluted soil left for three months and than the soil polluted and immediately planted on. This confirms that with time, natural biodegradation occur and the kerosene polluted environment has ability to purify itself, if and only if the source of pollutant is not intermittent. Figure 1 to 6 shows that the lower kerosene contaminated soil did better than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Rose For Emily In William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily the story of an eccentric southern aristocrat from the view of the community she lives in. the story opens with the death of the main character, Miss Emily Grierson. Faulkner described Miss Emily s life circumstances through a series of flash backs. Faulkner explains his story is an example of a person having their hopes and aspirations for their life dashed over time, and only later to realize how through poor decision making, they have broken every value and belief they hold, then proceeding to punish themselves indefinitely. Brooks and Warren begin by approaching the story from the psychological mindset of Miss Emily. They point out without finding the meaning behind Miss Emily s actions, the story is merely a story of abnormal psychology. By being able to understand where the motives came from for Miss Emily s actions the reader is much more able to see that Miss Emily was not just a mentally disturbed individual with no real cause for her condition. The idea that Miss Emily refuses to submit to the group mentality of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fetterley contends that the story is that of a male dominated past and future, and a woman who is oppressed and victimized by her society systems. In life, Miss Emily s father had been able to keep her as a possession and control her life. In his death, the community of Jefferson stepped into that role. • 5. The Terror Of The Islamic State In the aftermath of a violent event, people often ask, Why? However, the question of what motivates people to both engage in and support violence remains a puzzle and is the subject of much debate. Within that broader question, there is a particular lack of understanding of how groups with extreme views that support violence motivate supporters. The Islamic State (also referred to as ISIS or ISIL) is perhaps the most salient terrorist group today in light of recent, high profile attacks such as those in Belgium and Paris. However, Islamist ideology is not the only threat. Domestic right wing groups can also motivate violent action on their behalf. The recent occupation of an Oregon wildlife refuge by an armed group led by Ammon Bundy brought renewed media attention to right wing militia movements. The Three Percenters, their name referring to the supposed 3% of the colonists who took up arms in the American Revolution, are one such militia group. They are primarily motivated by the preservation of private gun ownership and are preparing to resist any perceived threats to their constitutional rights. There is a rapidly growing literature on this process of radicalization. Though there is no single cause, and violent behavior does not necessarily follow radical attitudes that support the use of violence (Neumann 2013; Leuprecht et al. 2010), little is known regarding the actual causal mechanisms (Silke 2008). The eldest of three, raised in a traditional Catholic environment in Cincinnati, religion, family, and school have always been intertwined. He attended a Catholic high school and wanted to attend a Catholic college as well. Religion has been constant for him; he described moments where it was hard for him to have faith, but he never lost sight of the bigger picture and believes that God has a plan and will take care of us. He is deeply connected with religion as an ethical call to go beyond the self. Religion, from his point of view, is selfless. He hopes to used his religion to help others, which in turns helps him grow spiritually and develop a strong character. For some, religion is going to church and practicing the ceremony of worshiping with others. Jack, on the other hand, does not find meaning in the ceremony of religion, but the practice outside of the church. When describing his religion, he stated, the order of mass does not do much for me, I find meaning in going out and making connections with others. For him, practicing faith is going out of his way to make everyone feel welcomed and comfortable, establishing his religion as a prominent aspect of his overall personality. The fact that his older brother was famous and successful man when it came to psychology and physiology may have contributed to sibling rivalry. When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short verses there is evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old age to a close. Trying to find the boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially when excluding chapter numbers from making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the restoration God will do, including the New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the Garden of Eden will the garden be inside of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the restoration was clear that it was the New Jerusalem. There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers (Proverbs 6:16 19). The seven deadly sins are pride, gluttony, sloth, envy, greed, anger, and lust. Pride is the excessive belief that one person has so much belief in himself and his abilities, that it interferes with the person s realization of the grace of God. In order to be more confident in her forecast, she asked her assistant to estimate Nike s cost of capital. Nike s Estimated Cost of Capital Ms. Ford s assistant estimated Nike s cost of capital to be 8.4%. This is based on four main assumptions. First, a single cost of capital for all of Nike s various business segments will be sufficient, rather than using a business segment specific cost of capital. Seeing as footwear made up 62% of revenues, and that all the significant segments were sport related, the assistant felt that the risk factors were similar for all of the business segments. Next, since Nike was funded through both debt and equity, the WACC was used to calculate the cost of capital. Third, the cost of debt was estimated to be 4.3%. This was calculated by taking the interest expense for the entire year of 2001 and dividing it by Nike s average debt balance. Tax adjusted, the cost of debt is 2.7%; this uses a tax rate of 38% based on a state tax of 3% and the U.S. statutory tax rate. Lastly, the CAPM was used to estimate the cost of equity. Using the current yield of the 20 year Treasury bond as the risk free rate, the compound average premium of the market over Treasury bonds as the risk premium, and the average of Nike s betas from 1996 to 2000 as the beta, Nike s cost of equity was estimated to be 10.5%. The first is an economic change where there began an expanded trade system. Several trading posts earned riches, and they also set up long distance trade routes. The second was religious because the Europeans arrived looking for riches from the new world and the quest for wealth and power. In the midst of their search, they were also extorting the expensive items from the Catholic Church which begins the start of the crusades on the lands that was controlled by the Muslims. • 26. Analysis Of Fernand Leger s The Divers With most of the 20 elements and principles evident in the painting The Divers (Red and Black) by Fernand Leger, we can achieve a better understanding and cohesiveness of this piece. Additionally, alongside with his other paintings, the medium used for this painting was also oil on canvas. In this painting, Leger incorporates a specific style called Cubism and incorporates a strong simple imagery. The artist s personal style consists of bold use of color while combining his art as something that everyone can enjoy. A brief formal analysis of this painting will show us how he used the main principle of emphasis to showcase the characteristics of the human body progressing in space. In order to demonstrate these specific characteristics, Leger incorporates many different types of elements into this piece. In this painting, color plays an important role. The shapes of the blue squares contrast altogether with the other shapes and also, with the mutated beige background. Leger uses numerous colors such as the neon yellow, red, blue, black, and green in order to reveal that the colors are free and therefore, these colors exist in space. As mentioned earlier, this painting included a variety of different shapes; there are two different types of shape that can be seen in this painting. The first type is geometric or regular shapes such as the squares, circles, and rectangles. The second, on the other hand, are organic and freeform shapes such as the feet, hands, and face. Next, Leger incorporates many lines throughout this portrait. From curved lines to a single horizontal line, Leger includes each different type to develop a sense of movement, or rhythm. The curved lines makes the viewer s eyes circle around the piece to further realize the symbolism. For space, Leger leaves many of the corner as negative space. However, the corners of this painting are not the only ones Leger leaves as space. Because the shapes and colors are kept simple, there s also quite a series of distance between the shapes even throughout the whole entire painting. Again, because of the simplicity of the shapes, even the texture of this painting can be seen as smooth. The painting does not involve any harsh or rugged lines, and is ... Improving the quality of health care in the United States is necessary (Sherwood Zomorodi, 2014). According to Huber (2014), based on measurable criteria, health care quality is knowing whether care resulted in expected clinic outcomes. Health care quality and safety are part of Saint Mary s Medical Center s mission, vision and culture. For instance, the organization s vision statement includes delivering high quality health care services in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and standards, which calls for system wide quality improvement (SMMC, 2016). Furthermore, the organization stresses that all employees are responsible for identifying opportunities for improvement (SMMC, 2015). Moreover, it is important to note, nurses are bound by their Code of Ethics to protect the health and safety of patients (Huber, 2014). Organizational Quality Program, Goals, and Structure Saint Mary s Medical Center s quality goals include patient centered care that improves patient outcomes, patient safety, and reduces health care cost (SMMC, 2015). The organization s mission, vision, and quality improvement goals ensure accountability of all employees, for examples reducing falls, pressure ulcers, and central line associated bloodstream infections (SMMC, 2015). As the protagonist of the story, Roark Howard goes against the conformity that most of the other characters allege with. The largest open mall in town is not far from our house and is the one my wife shop at most often. It is a large open shopping area with buildings in clusters of two, to six. There is ample parking, and two or more of the stores is accessible from each parking space. The complex is anchored by a twelve screen theater, and three big box stores. The variety of merchandise will rival any of the large enclosed malls. Here you can find everything, clothing, household items, food, auto parts, sports and hardware. Unlike the enclosed malls this shopping center has the largest number national chain restaurants in town, along with a cafeteria, donut shop, and several locally owned eateries. There is in one art gallery that also serves coffee and a selection of teas, a hobby shop and three places that sell art supplies, which we both use. One of our favorite stores is a Bakery chain store, they not only have the best tasting coffee they, have the largest assortment of goodies to go with it. For lunch, they serve a choice of sandwiches, salads and soups. At dinnertime, they add a great choice of pizza and beer, plus the sandwich menu. Jarvis Seasonal and spatial variation of diffuse (non point) source zinc pollution in a historically metal mined river catchment, UK. 1. Introduction: Gozzard et al s. (2011) study focuses on the importance of each, point source and diffuse (non point) zinc (Zn) pollution in the River West Allen Catchment (RWAC) in the North Pennine Ore field. The River West Allen (RWA) has been subject to historical Zinc mining which came to a halt in the 1970 s but has consequently left abandoned Zinc mines which contributes as a source of pollution to the River West Allen (RWA) (Gozzard et al. 2011). Thus, calculating the contribution of diffuse Zinc sources into the river. 2. Results and Discussion: By using the techniques above to measure Zinc concentrations at high and low flow for 15 months, Gozzard et al. (2011) found that point source Zinc pollution plays a role in discharging Zinc into RWA but is more prominent during low flow events. This is due to exposure of shafts during low flow which in turn encourages exchange between ground and surface waters. Gozzard et al. (2011) uses Vink et al. s (1999) statement that the interaction between surface water and ground water is a major pathway for contaminant transfer , thus using the statement to justify a similar mechanism in the RWAC at low flow. In addition, during low flow conditions, the RWA is supersaturated with minerals which results in a sink for zinc, which explains that the reduction of Zinc is likely due to the adsorption of Zinc onto the river s sediment. Gozzard et al. (2011) conclude that point source mine discharge is the biggest contributor of Zinc in the RWA during low flow conditions. However, during high flow, point source mine discharge into the river is not as significant due to the dilution effect of the water on zinc in the river. However, in the middle part of the catchment, a steady rise occurs which suggests that diffuse sources of Zinc are present. As previously stated, formerly deposited and/or adsorbed Zinc on surface rock during low flow may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Preventing Obesity Among School Children through Healthier School Meals Obesity and overweight are among the pressing health problems among children and adolescents in the developed world. Obesity refers to an excess amount of body fat whereas overweight can be measured by the BMI index or height weight ratio. According to the WHO (2012), obesity and overweight are the fifth largest risk for global deaths. Introduction Obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has increased to more than a third of children and adolescents (CDC, 2012). Children and adolescents consume 700 to 1000 more calories per day than required (NCCOR, 2012). School lunches mostly consist of fried and salty foods, which has prompted ex military officers to call for legislation on healthy school lunches (Spillius, 2010). Problem Identification Such children are likely to have higher risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later years (CDC, 2012). Obesity in children and adolescents can lead to greater susceptibility to the following in later years: Asthma High blood pressure Bone and joint problems Sleep apnea Low self esteem Problem Identification Children and adolescents often resort to unhealthy ways of controlling weight including: Crash diets Binge eating, leading to bulimia nervosa Starvation Drugs, e.g. cocaine Laxatives Hence, there is a need to develop healthy ways of controlling obesity in children. Professional Athletes Should Be Allowed At The Olympic Games With the multi billions of dollars that the Olympics earn and spend, it s certainly is in the best interest of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to remain under the circumstances of keeping sport open to professional athletes, not only financially, but as well as the majority of their viewers. In this position statement, I will use historic International Olympic Committee guidelines (1964) and official IOC reports as a basis for proving that professional athletes should be allowed to participate in the Olympic Games. To successfully understand what differentiates a professional athlete from an amateur athlete, and the issues that arise from it, we must understand how the International Olympic Committee defines a professional and amateur athlete. According to the Eligibility Rules of the International Olympic Committee published in 1964, a person was only eligible to participate in the Olympic games if they were an advocate for sport, without material gain of any kind. He does not qualify: a) If he has not a basic occupation designed to insure his insure his present and future livelihood; b) If he receives or has received remuneration for participation in sport ; c) If he does not comply with the Rules of the International Federation concerned, and the official interpretations of this Rule number 26 . • 33. Can Utilitarianism Be Defended Against The Injustice... Can Utilitarianism be defended against the Injustice Objection? In this essay, I will argue that utilitarianism cannot be defended against the injustice objection. Utilitarians may be able to reply to the injustice objection in some cases by invoking one of two replies, the Long term consequences reply, in which utilitarians will avoid unjust actions that increase short term utility because in the long term they will not lead to the greatest good. The other reply that may help utilitarianism avoid injustice in some cases is the Secondary principles reply, where some rule based principles such as not murdering (because it generally decreases happiness) may avoid injustice. However, I will focus on the bite the bullet objection, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is in the case of R v Dudley and Stephens (1884), where Dudley, Stephens, and Brookes ate the cabin boy Parker, after they were shipwrecked for 24 days at sea. Although this act maximised utility for the most people, Parker s rights were infringed upon as he did not agree to being killed and eaten. Therefore when we add up the pain and pleasures of all those affected we may end up infringing someone s rights. The act that maximises utility may cause unhappiness and misery for the minority. There are three standard replies to the injustice objection. The first being the Long term consequences objection, where a person following utilitarianism is not obligated to commit an injustice, and that person should take into account the long term consequences of their actions. An example I would like to refer to is the harvesting organs example. Where there are five sick people in hospital and they all need organ transplants, at the same time a sixth patient is undergoing a routine checkup. A transplant surgeon finds that the only way of saving the five would be to kill the sixth person and harvest their organs. Utilitarianism would state that we should harvest the organs of person 6 without his permission to save the lives of the five other people who are dying. A utilitarian would explain that the action of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Presented as a treatise on the modern humman condition; Society of the Spectacle is a piece that explores the contemporary effects of power, which it seems in more recent times are becoming increasingly tied with the idea of a media and consumer society; a system based off the production and consumption of images, information and commodities. In the discourse of arhcitecture specifically, it seems Debords predictions have bled into the culture of modern design, as expressed by Anthony Vidler: Recent proposals and debates over the architectutural devlopment of ground zero have highlighted the way in which, over the last two decades, the public role of architecture has been gradually reduced to the symbolic and the emblematic. Its forms of expresion are no longer closely tied back to urban issues and physical planning questions. (Toward a theory of the architectural program, antohny vidler, page 1) These discussions and critiques, indeed, seem to bear out Guy Debords 1964 anticipation of an all pervading spectacle culture where in essense, we have moved into a system of architecture overinvested in symbolic form, where flash and bravura win out over contemplation . Bradford Assay On Unknown Concentrations Of Proteins Bradford Assay on Unknown Concentrations of Proteins Taylor Coleman September 27, 2016 Lab Group 3 BIOL 1111: General Biology Lab Fall 2015 Section 107 Chad Perry Abstract Colorimetric assay is a process of determining a concentration of a solution based on absorbance of light. The purpose of this lab is to determine if the Bradford assay is an accurate way to determine an unknown concentration of two samples of protein. The Bradford assay is done by measuring wavelength of light passing through a cuvette filled with Bradford dye and concentrations of PBS and proteins. After the cuvettes are mixed they are placed into a spectrophotometer to measure wavelength. The wavelength given will be used to plot a standard curve based on concentration (x axis) and wavelength (y axis). The standard curve is then used to measure an educated guess on the concentrations of unknown protein concentrations. We hypothesized that if we use the Bradford assay and colorimetric spectrophotometry we can determine an accurate concentration of two unknown concentrations of proteins. The results of this lab failed to reject our hypothesis based on accurate measurements of protein concentrations. The standard curves are drawn with a linear increasing slope. The Bradford assay is an accurate way to demine the concentration of an unknown concentration. However, it is not unusual that researchers fail to fulfill the expectation, which will be considered as scientific misconduct.
