Unequal Rights For Women And Gender Inequality
Unequal rights for women and gender inequality have been a plague across European society since the
dawn of time. It was not until the late eighteenth century that women s rights activists, such as Mary
Wollstonecraft, began to take action against this inequality. Through the perseverance of these
activists, major reforms for equality began to arise during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, both
being time periods that marked a profound era for women and the progression of women s rights.
During this time women s rights expanded greatly into the social, economic, and political fields of
society. Women finally started to become a man s equal rather than his lesser and the patriarchal
society that once had dominated western civilization had started to diminish. During revolutionary
times like these, people often turned towards art to exemplify and portray their society. Art can be an
influential force to help illustrate what changes are occurring in one s society, or what changes need to
occur. The progression of women s rights throughout the nineteenth and twentieth century was
reflected throughout society by works of art such as Original Costumes for the Velocipede Race in
Bordeaux, The Greatest Mother in the World, and France: Women s Fashion in 1927. During the late
nineteenth and early twentieth century the second industrial revolution was underway which allowed
for the mass production of various items, such as the bicycle. Mass production permitted items like the

1. According to the opening statement, what does every person realize at some moment in his/her
education?
Eventually every person will have to realize that being envious of one another makes you ignorant,
and that everyone has imperfections and no one is perfect but everyone at one point must stop
comparing themselves to everyone and accept themselves for who they are. 2. In the second
paragraph, what does Emerson say is every person s destiny?
In the second paragraph Emerson said that people s destiny was to accept that the divine creator is
within us, also that the universe is full of decency and it s all powerful. There can also be a power

In a paragraph, write your idea of self reliance. Do you agree or disagree with Emerson? Why?
My idea of self reliance is relying on one s self to perform a task. Also to be an individual, not to have
to worry about relying on anyone else. Emerson made some great points that being self reliant is
important. This is important because you don t want to have to ever rely on someone else. Sometimes
the only person you can rely on is yourself which is important because no one should have to rely on
anyone else. 9. Describe Emerson s style of writing. Find one sentence that is an example of this style.
In your description, focus on his tone and purpose see the following hint for assistance. Hint: When
you discuss a writer s style of writing, you look at his purpose for writing, word choice to convey a
tone or attitude, the structure of sentences (for example, question or statement), and sentence and
paragraph length, for starters.
Emerson has a great style of writing that opens the eyes on readers to new perspectives. Emerson

A) Work Flow
The current workflow needs to address how to best organize the assembly line so that it is most
efficient, and what metrics can be provided in determining the correct number of workstations. My
recommendation to improve work flow is to utilize assembling and balancing strategies in Shuzworld
s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using this layout strategy will directly improve workflow by minimizing the imbalance between
machines and personnel while meeting the required output. Additionally, assembly line will put
fabricated parts together at a series of workstations to create a smooth continuing flow on the
assembly line with little idle time at each workstation. (Heizer, 2010). In order to be able to produce at
a specified rate, we must be aware of the tools, processes and equipment being used.
By inputting the information into the layout strategies method, I conclude that SSPF can eliminate 3 of
their workstations. Therefore, it will be 92% efficient with 50 minutes of time allocated, 4 minutes of
idle time, and 10 minutes of maximum cycle time.
A1) Justification
The learning curve was chosen because of the strategic importance that is placed on a learning curve.
The learning curve is applied to assist in the development of strategic decisions on levels of
employment,
opportunities, costs and prices. Repeat the same results in less time on this operation. This means
more time to
produce more because it takes less time to produce. Available resources and the process of change can
also
change the learning curve, and that the company pursues the learning curve to get the cost savings

An Extreme Sense Of Nationalism In The United States
Being born into a country creates a sense of connection between person and land. Most often people
tend to feel this as pride in their country and that s defined as being patriotic but what if patriotism
goes further? This extreme sense of patriotism exists and is known as nationalism. Nationalism is
known to cloud the thoughts of many people, including high ranked country officials. Such clouded
judgements occurs, that many argue it covers the thoughts of nationalist country officials so often that
it can even create war. Is it true that War has a hunger for nationalism? Although many people argue
that nationalism cannot be the cause of international conflicts, nationalism can and is the cause of
many international conflicts because nationalism causes sense of pride and greed that, if broken, could
have prevented the start of wars, nationalism also builds up to resentment of other countries that
allows war to seem like the only answer and although other factors may set the idea of a conflict,
nationalism fuels it further into complete war. Nationalism is defined as an extreme patriotic feeling
marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries but in terms of how nationalism makes
someone act, that can be answered in two simple words: Greedy and prideful. ... Show more content

Texas then Polk would ve just taken over Texas and that s that. But unfortunately for the U.S, Mexico

E.E Evans-Pritchard Once Said, “I Have Often Been Asked
E.E Evans Pritchard once said, I have often been asked whether, when I was among the Azande, I got
to accept their ideas about witchcraft. I suppose you can say I accepted them. I had no choice. In my
own culture, I rejected Azande notions of witchcraft. In their culture, I accepted them. In a kind of
way, I believed them. In the documentary Sir Edward Evans Pritchard: Strange Beliefs, the research of
British social anthropologist E.E. Evans Pritchard on the Zande tribe of central Africa and the Nuer
tribe of Sudan is highlighted. As a good anthropologist should, Evans Pritchard immersed himself in
his fieldwork and attempted to look at foreign cultural values from the perspective of the culture he
was observing.
While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is deeply democratic and is easily roused to violence. His turbulent spirit finds any restraint
irksome and no man recognizes a superior . This cultural attitude towards independence has led the
Nuer to function without a real system of governance. While there are chiefs in Nuer society, the role
of chief tends to be limited to that of a mediator.
The findings of E.E. Evans Pritchard serve as an example of the importance of ethnographic fieldwork
and cultural relativism. People have an inherent tendency to drift towards ethnocentrism if they do not
keep an open mind about the legitimacy of foreign cultural ideas. Enculturalization occurs from the
very beginning of one s life. When one grows up in a culture that praises traits that are deemed as
beneficial and discourages behaviors that are seen as harmful, one tends to develop similar beliefs on
these traits and behaviors. Different cultures encourage different outlooks on society. This is the result
of the environment a culture exists in. In many tribal societies, one of the primary influences on
culture is the physical environment. However, in technologically advanced societies that worry less
about satisfying needs and more about fulfilling desires, social aspects are perhaps more significant.
For example, note the difference between American and Japanese culture. American culture promotes
individualism and free speech. Many Americans tote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights

Preparedness Preparedness may be described as a state of perpetual readiness. Just with any state
training, equipment, resources and personnel must continuously be evaluated for serviceability,
availability, and trained. In accordance with the national preparedness system flood risks and areas
have been identified. Additionally, resources, assets and capabilities have been observed. A state of
being constantly ready requires resources. The county will allocate funds for training and equipment
maintenance. A large asset such as the South Central Task Force has many elements that require
precise coordination. Thus, emergency drills and training exercises for the county will be conducted
on a quarterly basis, while task force drills will be conducted at a minimum of an annual basis. This
constant state of training will allow for regular observation of capabilities, resources and plans in
order to validate current plans or adjust based on circumstances (Fema.gov, 2017). Preparedness
efforts often involve entire communities. This massive undertaking requires effective use of
communication tools, as well as meetings with shareholders, community leaders and community
members. Hence, it is vital to include individuals, businesses, community groups, faith based
organizations and all levels of government. When a disaster spontaneously occurs, unaffiliated
volunteers may arrive ready to help. Generally speaking

Importance of Parking Stickers in Silliman University
Notably, schools and universities that have vast campus area also have systemized rules on campus

Renewable Energy Sources Of Energy
The worldwide demand of energy has been increasing considerably. Up to 2030, it is supposed to be
60% higher than today (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). Currently, non renewable energy sources, like coal and
oil, are more commonly used, since they are cheaper than renewable energies. In the European Union,
80% of the energy consumption demands are covered by fossil sources (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). But,
non renewable energy sources are running out and they are also very harmful for the environment,
since they generate greenhouse gases. So, it is very important to discover more renewable ways to
generate energy.
For a very long time, the only energy source that mankind had was the human muscle. After that they
discovered the fire and the animal domestication providing them a source of heat and help from horses
to plough their fields. The only other accessible sources of energy that they could explore were wind
and water. Sails were used on ships allowing people to move across water, windmills and water
wheels were used to grind grains and pump water. At the end the 18th century Europeans discovered
the power of non renewable energy sources and started to use fossil fuels, first coal then oil and
natural gas. With these new energy sources, a lot of new technologies were invented over the years
until in 1700 and 1800 when the industrial revolution occurred. These new technologies based in
fossil fuels allowed an exponential increase in the population and living standards. But, this increase

Quality Of Life Analysis
Quality of life With more than 500 million Americans diagnosed with Alzheimer s, the quality of their
life with the disease is predictable. There are different stages of the disease that range from mild,
moderate, and severe. A person with the mild form of the disease could experience finding the right
word during conversations difficult, forgetting the names of new acquaintances, and difficulty
planning and organizing. A severe form would cause the patient to be confused and unaware of their
environment and surroundings. They would need assistance on activities of daily living, have trouble
recognizing common faces, struggle to remember personal details, as well as wandering. These severe
cases lead to losing the ability to communicate and in the end death. Mrs. F knew the fate of her
declining health through this disease. She would progressively become incapable to control her own
actions and the disease will eventually lead to death. Quality of life will be of those living with the

Michael Dorsey is a young New York actor that s very talented but has managed to turn every
producer in the country against him because he likes to do things his way or no way. His agent can t
seem to find him anything after a tomato commercial that Michael lost because he didn t feel the
tomato wasn t properly motivated. A popular soap opera has an opening for a woman part Michael
auditions as Miss Dorothy and gets the part becoming widely known. He falls for a co actor, Julie, on
the show and they become very close, Julie s father also becomes close to Dorothy and proposes.
Michael decides to end Dorothy live on the show when he reveals that Dorothy is really Michael. In
the end he talks to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is helping her rehearse her lines and he shows her what they are wanting and she responds you
would be better for the part than I would. The second motif I feel is the very first time he sees Julie he
immediately seems to fall in love at first sight.
The main film style in Tootsie is seeing TV on TV. Since much of the film setting is the recording of
the soap opera it is shot sometimes where the audience is seeing what is going on through a screen on
TV or its shot as though you are watching the soap opera as the soap opera and not as part of the
movie.
Compared to later films with men dressing as women for some purpose or another Tootsie set the
trend. Like Mrs. Doubtfire a man dresses as a woman for a reason. This creates humor as well as
sympathy in some ways that the man must go that far to achieve what he is after.
I found the Tootsie to be a very entertaining film. Besides the fact that it was funny to see what he had
to go through to appear as a woman but as the woman she was very outspoken. On the show he took
everyone by surprise because it was a soft spoken older woman speaking her mind that stood up to
everyone.
I think this film was great because first of all it was genuinely funny. Second, the film takes a man that
discovers that being a woman has made him a better man. Finally

Theme Of Redemption In The Hunger Games
In many works of literature and film there are many biblical illusions and parallels that have been
explored. The Hunger Games explores many themes from the Bible, the overall theme being
redemption. In the Bible there are stories that foreshadow the redemption of christ. While Katniss
story isn t the final redemption of Panem, she hopes that one day Panem will be restored. Other
themes in The Hunger Games also align with themes such as suffering, war, and love.
Redemption as the overall theme throughout both texts is shown through the act of self sacrifice,
which alludes to they way that Jesus brings redemption to humanity. This is supported in the Bible as
Ephesians 1:7 states 7 in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our
trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, this quote refers to the sacrifice that Christ made for
man kind. It reenforces that it is only through laying down your life for others that life has any
purpose at all. Like Jesus, Katniss comes from a very marginalised place in the world. Katniss also has
many other attributes that coincide with Christ. She is always serving her loved ones, at the risk of
sacrificing herself.
Another theme explored in both the Bible and The Hunger Games is suffering. ... Show more content

The Hunger Games revolves around the idea that each district must fight (war) until all other districts
have been eliminated and then peaceful and safe living will be restored. Isaiah 25:8 8 He has
swallowed up death forever! The Lord Yahweh will wipe away tears from off all faces. He will take
the reproach of his people away from off all the earth, for Yahweh has spoken it. This quote shows the
theme of war throughout the bible and how Yahweh is the saviour that has stopped war and no one
shall ever have to worry again. Essentially Katniss is the parallel to Yahweh because she is to lead her
district to a place with no

Absurdity In The Stranger By Albert Camus
In the book The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the use of absurdity is at a great extent. Throughout the
book, Camus gives plenty of absurd scenarios that are carried out by the characters. This essay will
point out many of the parts from the book which are great examples of this topic. In the beginning of
the book, the main character and narrator, Meursault, is notified that his mother has passed away. She
lived in an old people s home because she was sick and Meursault could not afford to take care of her.
The absurd part about this event, is the fact that Meursault did not even shed a tear at his own mother s
funeral. Another ridiculous part is that he did not even know her age! He was asked by one of the
undertakers, Was she old? And Meursault replied, Fairly, then after stating, because I didn t know the
exact number, (p.16). It is completely absurd to not know your own mother s age. Meursault also didn
t want to look at his mother in the casket. Instead, he drank coffee and smoked during the funeral. That
is purely absurd to do at one s own mother s funeral. Another example of absurdity in the book, The
Stranger, would be Meursault s feelings towards his girlfriend, Marie. They have a very intimate
relationship and Marie even tells Meursault that she loves him. However, when Marie asked if he
loved her back, he replied that he did not. As strong and intimate their relationship is, it is almost
absurd for Meursault to say that he doesn t love her. He even fantasizes

Parent Training
Parent Training Vs. Parent Education: Which Encourages Confidence and Engagement?
In 2012 one in sixty eight children were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2016). One of the symptoms associated with
autism is aggressive behavior presented outwardly toward others or as self injurious behavior.
Disruptive behaviors are often seen in the way of kicking, biting, hitting, and throwing objects, which
can result in injury to the child, parent, and increase parental stress level which can cause increased
behavior problems. In a study of 1380 children with ASD, performed by Kanne Mazurek (2010), the
researchers found 56% of the children engaged in aggressive behaviors ... Show more content on

(2014). Although the study was small and consisted of only 8 male children and 11 parents, all
children exhibit aggressive or challenging behaviors as described by the parents (Preece, 2014). This
study showed a significant improvement in confidence after training which increased over time
(Preece, 2014). Further, it showed a decrease in physical interventions performed within the home
(Preece, 2014). The parents reported that they were better able to understand how their own actions
impacted the behaviors in the children and the addition of the physical intervention component gave
them the confidence to intervene appropriately if necessary (Preece, 2014). This study was very small
and leaves room for a larger scale study to be performed. Further, all participants were male, came
from the same school, and were the same age. In the proposed study aspects of PBS will be
incorporated on a larger scale with a more diverse population in order to determine the effectiveness
of the training on a wider

The Transcription Of The Proclamation Of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 began a growing resentment for basically the same reason they were upset
towards the Indians. In the Transcript of the Proclamation of 1763, it states, And We do further strictly
enjoin and require all Persons whatever, who have either wilfully or inadvertently seated themselves
upon any Lands within the Countries above described, or upon any other Lands, which, not having
been ceded to, or purchased by Us, are still reserved to the said Indians as aforesaid, forthwith to
remove themselves from such Settlements. (King George III, 1763) If I was a colonist and I read this I
would be like, you are not my mom. I get your my King and have almost complete control over me,
but you are not my mom and can t tell me what to do. , but then I would follow him in fear that I
would get in trouble and be killed. King George III also writes. And We do further declare it to be Our
Royal Will and Pleasure, for the present as aforesaid, to reserve under Our Sovereignty, Protection,
and Dominion, for the Use of the said Indians...We do hereby strictly forbid, on Pain of Our
Displeasure, all Our loving Subjects from making any Purchases or Settlements whatever, or taking
Possession of any of the Lands above reserved, without Our especial Leave and License for that
Purpose first obtained. (King George III,1763) The Colonists were probably mad for the same reason
as they were upset. It s kind of like the King saying, it s our pleasure, like a mom saying to an aunt
that their kid didn t want to come over, to give this land. Also Our loving Subjects is also like a mom
getting on to their kid being like my Wonderful daughter , but in code saying you better behave . But it
wasn t their pleasure and they were just saying that to get on the Indians good side, and the colonists
knew that so they were getting more and more upset, until they eventually rebelled. The growing
resentment between them started when this Proclamation was written and the colonists got so fed up
that they eventually rebelled. The colonists were upset because the British won, but were being moved
out like they had lost. In the Transcript of the Proclamation of 1763, it states, And We do further

What Is The Critique Of The Da Vinci Code
Conspiracy of the Millenium: The Da Vinci Code Dan Brown s famous novel, The Da Vinci Code
created a lot of controversy regarding Christianity after being published in 2003. What makes this
novel so controversial is that Brown tells a story about a museum curator with a secret pact, a
historian, a cryptologist and how the church has kept the truth about Mary Magdalene and Jesus.
Brown s claims about the existence of a secret society called the Priori of Sions whose members
include Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo and even Da Vinci himself and their possession of the
Holy Grail, an arrangement of documents that reveals the real relationship between Jesus and Mary
Magdalene and the existence of a daughter between the two of them. Brown ... Show more content on

As a member of this cult, some of Da Vinci s most famous paintings include secret messages and
information that only members of the cult were able to decipher, leading to conspiracies that involve
the Clergy and their secrets. One of Da Vinci s pieces, The Last Supper is used as evidence to prove
his involvement in the secret sect. The Last Supper practically shouts at the viewer that Jesus and
Magdalene were a pair (Brown 244). The Priory of Sion is referred as to have known the true nature of
this relationship and having worshiping her as a symbol of sacred femininity and power. The Priory of
Sion, to this day, still worships Mary Magdalene as the Goddess, the Holy Grail, the Rose and the
Divine Mother (Brown 255). The fact that the Priory of Sion, an important organization involved with
Christian secrets and documents considered her as a Goddess suggests the true importance of this
woman. The intimate relationship described by Brown in his novel could cause a strife involving the
whole world, Christianity is the biggest religion in the world composed by 31.5% of the world
population. The Roman Catholic Church has an incredible amount of power, even in modern day
society, and with

Why We Need Heroes in Movies
Thomas Fuselier
Why do we need heroes?
Professor James Winters
While they may be very different from one another almost every movie must have some type of hero.
Screen writers and movie directors must constantly develop these different types of heroes to please
the many different attitudes and opinions of movie goers. Movie enthusiast all have different reasons
for liking the movie heroes they do and it is up to the screen writers, actors, and directors to
successfully please the movies target audience. Numerous studies have tried to reveal just exactly
what people consider a hero to be. In a study discussed in the course packet the results show that terms
such as intelligent, loving, and leader are some of the most commonly used ... Show more content on

In real life the underdog is hardly ever victorious so movie writers create these underdog heroes to
fulfill the audiences desire to see the underdog actually win once and a while. Movies that show the
underdog as triumphant give real people hope that even though one may be up against a much more
powerful foe, it is possible to come out on top. Superheroes first became extremely popular within the
pages of comic books so it was only natural that film makers adopted the idea of superheroes into
movies as well. People flock to superhero movies to satisfy their need for fantasy. Superhero movies
frequently depict an average Joe who is somehow given amazing super human powers that real men
and women have been fantasizing about for years. When thinking about movies that follow this
sequence of events, the first movie that comes to my mind is Spider Man. The movie starts out by
showing the main character as a weak and nerdy high school student, but a field trip to a research lab
changed his life forever. He is bitten by a spider that gives him super human powers that he uses to
fight crime and injustice. Viewers are enticed by movies like Spiderman because they wish that they
could actually obtain these super human powers too. While many people would like these powers to
have the ability to better society, many would also enjoy the powers for more cynical uses. Many
people can relate to the feeling of being weak and helpless, so seeing heroes like Spiderman in the

Falling from the Cliff
1. Falling from the cliff
1.1 Case Study
On April 1, 2007, a 48 year old woman was killed after plunging 50 meters from a cliff while hiking
on the rugged Lion Rock. She planned to climb over Lion Rock along an unnamed path with 2 people.
However, they got lost along the path. So, the woman climbed upward along a rough cliff to try to find
a way out. Unfortunately, she sipped and fell 50 meters down the cliff. She suffered severe injuries
and lost consciousness. Later, she was declared dead in hospital. [1]
1.2 Possible causes
For hikers, they may need to bear part of the responsibility to protect themselves. Some hikers may
neglect the danger while hiking.
Firstly, some people may walk too close to the edge that they may accidentally fall down when they
are careless or step on little rocks.
Secondly, some people may wear unsuitable shoes while hiking, like high heels and slippers. These
kinds of shoes cannot prevent slippery and cannot protect their foot if accidents happen.
Thirdly, some hikers may play along the road and accidentally push the other down the edge. Also,
some hikers would walk together hand in hand. In case one of them lose balance, all of them may fall
down.
Also, the rocks and roads may not in good conditions and cause the hikers to fall down when hikers
step on them.
Firstly, some mountain trails do not have any protective measures, like rails or barbed wire fence, on
the edge. If the road is narrow, hikers will have no choice other than

Justly Good
Why is being just good for me?
Seems like a pretty easy question right? Well not necessarily even a seemingly straightforward
question like this can get an assortment of different and diverse responses depending on just who is
polled. Take for example, if you were to question a moral relativist they would claim that there is no
such thing as an absolute sense of good and bad or even justness for that matter. They would claim
that human nature and mortality is an ever changing phenomena simply defined by many socio
cultural and historical factors nothing more or nothing less. Compare that response to that of a
spiritual or religious individual and they would claim that goodness is the product of some external
force or god. And if we live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Back in Plato s day pleasure was considered the good of the time and people lived by this standard. If
something made you feel good simply just do it. It was a very hedonistic lifestyle people and needed
guidance. Now to get into the mind of Plato and try to piece together the entire idea of what goodness
even is it s important to read Chapter 23. There you will find the Analogy of The Sun . The analogy of
the sun is basically one huge metaphor that was used in a conversation between Glaucon and Socrates.
Socrates carefully used the metaphor after being urged by Glaucon to define goodness . In the analogy
Socrates mentions this force called the child of goodness . Basically Socrates compares this child of
goodness to the sun, claiming how like the sun illuminates from the sky giving the us ability to see
and be seen so does this idea of goodness . Thus lighting the way to show those intelligible the truth.
In the case of Plato s republic, the intelligible Socrates talks about can be assumed to be any individual
who society deems fit to handle and interpret complex truths. These would be men of thought such as
philosophers. To take this role these individuals must have an initiate skill they were born with in
order to properly bestow their

The Birth Of A Moral Dilemma
The Birth of a Moral Dilemma in The Guest People choose every day in different circumstances and
degrees either small imperceptible one, such as the color of the shirt that they will wear, or huge
emotional and moral dilemmas like an abort or a high risk surgery. Nonetheless, there is always a
decision made that has its consequences (want or not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address
the importance of choices. The author uses the character of Balducci to show what happens when
people follow the rules without hesitation. For example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave
the Arab with Daru, and Daru shows himself discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says, Those
are the orders (Camus). Balducci as a man of law must follow whatever thing is said to him, and he
will do it for sure without dubiety; in addition, Balducci remarks, [Y]ou must sign, that s the rule
(Camus). He has to obey all the requisites and commandments that his work dictates, and he can t
avoid doing this because he will break all the goodness that justice represents. Nevertheless, Camus
tries to point out if a person who only follow a guide or manual for every decision he or she made.
That person is, in fact, making no choices, and he or she does not have to face and think about what is
right or wrong because that person will search and do whatever is said in that guide. Particularly, in
this story, Balducci notes, You don t get used to putting a rope on a man even after

The Handmaid s Tale By Margret Atwood
In the novel, The Handmaid s Tale , the author Margret Atwood introduces a dystopian America where
everything that once was is no more. In this society there is a change in the state s entire structure, it
has returned to its traditional ways or in other words a religious trap; both women and men are sorted
into categories, and each plays their part. Men can be Angles, Commanders or Guardians. Angles are
unknown but they are the ones who run society, commanders are slightly lower in rank with wives,
and the guardians are guards of the city and make sure the woman do not step out of line. The woman
can either be Wives of commanders, Martha s, who are domestic workers, and Handmaids who are the
most fertile of women. In this developing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first chapter we are introduced to our narrator, Offred, along with her situation. She is a
handmaid who will go to different homes trying to conceive a child. But before she is put into a home,
she is trained on how to be a proper handmaid. She is conditioned to believe in what the government
deems acceptable and is punished with an electric cattle prod when she steps out of line. She does not
have a say in what happens to her and as a women who experienced life before this traditional reform,
she longs for her old lifestyle. She wishes for an escape though she knows that could not happen with
the Angels guarding the fence that surrounds the building. With that knowledge, she thinks about
making a deal with the Angles. She does not have money, a position of power in society, or goods to
exchange, but she does have her body. This is where the idea of the body becoming control stems
from. As long as she has her body, she has something to bargain with, a tool to use to get her what she
wants most. Her body is an object of power to her because it arouses men and it is something they
want, so in order for her to get something from them, she must give her body in exchange. The first
chapter is crucial when discussing the theme because it is constantly brought up throughout the novel.
The narrator s body will get her what she wants, whether it is revenge, freedom, or even a

Analysis Of The Book Uncle Tom s Cabin
Lauren Drake
Ms. Jenkins
English
13 November 2014
North and South
Scenes of blood and cruelty are shocking to our ear and heart but there are many of them in the book
Uncle Tom s Cabin (Stowe 272). Uncle Tom, Augustine St. Clare, Evangeline St. Claire, and Eliza
Harris are just a few of the main characters in Harriet Beecher Stowe s amazing story about being
taken captive and set free. The book has many settings; the main locations being Canada, New
Orleans, and a plantation in Kentucky. Uncle Tom s Cabin is a book that has shaped the past and will
continue to shape the future.
The book opens with Arthur Shelby, a Kentucky farmer, struggling to keep his farm because of debt.
He and his wife Emily Shelby believe that they have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her father, Augustine St. Clare, buys Tom and assigns him the job of being the family driver. Tom and
Eva both share a faith in Jesus Christ and bond over reading of scriptures and singing of hymns. Eliza,
during her escape, meets up with her husband, George, who has also run away. They are adamant
about getting to Canada soon, but their trip is halted by the discovery of a slave hunter named Tom
Loker. Tom Loker surrounds them, but then is wounded by a gunshot to the side.
In New Orleans Mr. St. Claire buys a slave girl, Topsy, for his cousin, Mrs. Ophelia to teach. Mrs.
Ophelia complains that Topsy is not compliant or willing to learn. Soon Eva and Topsy became good
friends. After Topsy knew Eva loved her, Topsy did not become at once a saint; but the life and death
of Eva did work a marked change in her. The callous indifference was gone; there was now sensibility,
hope, desire, and the striving for good a strife irregular, interrupted, suspended oft, but yet renewed
again (Stowe 126). Eva grows very ill, very quickly, and before she dies she gives a piece of her hair
to all of the slaves to remember her. Also, before she dies, St. Claire agrees to free Tom upon his
death. But before St. Claire can follow through on his promise, he gets injured in a bar room brawl

Unreasonable Foolishness In The Gift Of Magi
Many people would consider the story, The Gift of Magi , an act of foolishness, but there is more to
the tale than unreasonable foolishness. The sacrifices the main characters, Jim and Della Dillingham
Young, made for each other were what many people would call an act of true love and generosity.
They had no money for Christmas, although they did have something of substance to trade. Della had
her long, beautiful hair and Jim had his pocket watch. They sacrificed for each other the greatest
treasures of their house (161). Jim and Della gave all they had for each other. According to O. Henry,
they could be considered Magi. The Dillingham Young s did not stop to consider how they would be
affected. They thought of each other s happiness before their own. Instead, they sell their greatest
treasures to buy the other a gift for Christmas. The story of The Gift of the Magi shows the underlying
meaning to be truly wealthy and to sacrifice everything for it. Wealth is more than money to countless
people. Love and happiness is the key to wealth. Jim and Della may not have money but they are
indeed wealthy. Love is more important than any possession or gift anyone can contain. O. Henry
illustrated that within The Gift of the Magi . He showed that love and happiness is the true wealth of
life by using literary elements like symbolism, the type of narrator, and irony.
In the beginning, the story tells about how Della does not have any money to purchase a gift for her
husband,

  • 2. Unequal Rights For Women And Gender Inequality Unequal rights for women and gender inequality have been a plague across European society since the dawn of time. It was not until the late eighteenth century that women s rights activists, such as Mary Wollstonecraft, began to take action against this inequality. Through the perseverance of these activists, major reforms for equality began to arise during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, both being time periods that marked a profound era for women and the progression of women s rights. During this time women s rights expanded greatly into the social, economic, and political fields of society. Women finally started to become a man s equal rather than his lesser and the patriarchal society that once had dominated western civilization had started to diminish. During revolutionary times like these, people often turned towards art to exemplify and portray their society. Art can be an influential force to help illustrate what changes are occurring in one s society, or what changes need to occur. The progression of women s rights throughout the nineteenth and twentieth century was reflected throughout society by works of art such as Original Costumes for the Velocipede Race in Bordeaux, The Greatest Mother in the World, and France: Women s Fashion in 1927. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century the second industrial revolution was underway which allowed for the mass production of various items, such as the bicycle. Eventually every person will have to realize that being envious of one another makes you ignorant, and that everyone has imperfections and no one is perfect but everyone at one point must stop comparing themselves to everyone and accept themselves for who they are. 2. In the second paragraph, what does Emerson say is every person s destiny? In the second paragraph Emerson said that people s destiny was to accept that the divine creator is within us, also that the universe is full of decency and it s all powerful. There can also be a power found within that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a paragraph, write your idea of self reliance. Do you agree or disagree with Emerson? Why? My idea of self reliance is relying on one s self to perform a task. Also to be an individual, not to have to worry about relying on anyone else. Emerson made some great points that being self reliant is important. This is important because you don t want to have to ever rely on someone else. Sometimes the only person you can rely on is yourself which is important because no one should have to rely on anyone else. 9. Describe Emerson s style of writing. Find one sentence that is an example of this style. In your description, focus on his tone and purpose see the following hint for assistance. Hint: When you discuss a writer s style of writing, you look at his purpose for writing, word choice to convey a tone or attitude, the structure of sentences (for example, question or statement), and sentence and paragraph length, for starters. I ve learned that how we face challenges plays a big role in the outcome. Stay ambitious determined and you can Never fail. Re: Operations Recommendations Date: November, 06, 2012 A) Work Flow The current workflow needs to address how to best organize the assembly line so that it is most efficient, and what metrics can be provided in determining the correct number of workstations. My recommendation to improve work flow is to utilize assembling and balancing strategies in Shuzworld s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using this layout strategy will directly improve workflow by minimizing the imbalance between machines and personnel while meeting the required output. Additionally, assembly line will put fabricated parts together at a series of workstations to create a smooth continuing flow on the assembly line with little idle time at each workstation. (Heizer, 2010). In order to be able to produce at a specified rate, we must be aware of the tools, processes and equipment being used. By inputting the information into the layout strategies method, I conclude that SSPF can eliminate 3 of their workstations. Therefore, it will be 92% efficient with 50 minutes of time allocated, 4 minutes of idle time, and 10 minutes of maximum cycle time. A1) Justification The learning curve was chosen because of the strategic importance that is placed on a learning curve. The learning curve is applied to assist in the development of strategic decisions on levels of employment, opportunities, costs and prices. Repeat the same results in less time on this operation. This means more time to produce more because it takes less time to produce. Available resources and the process of change can also change the learning curve, and that the company pursues the learning curve to get the cost savings should be

  • 6. An Extreme Sense Of Nationalism In The United States Being born into a country creates a sense of connection between person and land. Most often people tend to feel this as pride in their country and that s defined as being patriotic but what if patriotism goes further? This extreme sense of patriotism exists and is known as nationalism. Nationalism is known to cloud the thoughts of many people, including high ranked country officials. Such clouded judgements occurs, that many argue it covers the thoughts of nationalist country officials so often that it can even create war. Is it true that War has a hunger for nationalism? Although many people argue that nationalism cannot be the cause of international conflicts, nationalism can and is the cause of many international conflicts because nationalism causes sense of pride and greed that, if broken, could have prevented the start of wars, nationalism also builds up to resentment of other countries that allows war to seem like the only answer and although other factors may set the idea of a conflict, nationalism fuels it further into complete war. Nationalism is defined as an extreme patriotic feeling marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries but in terms of how nationalism makes someone act, that can be answered in two simple words: Greedy and prideful. ... E.E Evans-Pritchard Once Said, “I Have Often Been Asked E.E Evans Pritchard once said, I have often been asked whether, when I was among the Azande, I got to accept their ideas about witchcraft. I suppose you can say I accepted them. I had no choice. In my own culture, I rejected Azande notions of witchcraft. In their culture, I accepted them. In a kind of way, I believed them. In the documentary Sir Edward Evans Pritchard: Strange Beliefs, the research of British social anthropologist E.E. Evans Pritchard on the Zande tribe of central Africa and the Nuer tribe of Sudan is highlighted. As a good anthropologist should, Evans Pritchard immersed himself in his fieldwork and attempted to look at foreign cultural values from the perspective of the culture he was observing. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is deeply democratic and is easily roused to violence. His turbulent spirit finds any restraint irksome and no man recognizes a superior . This cultural attitude towards independence has led the Nuer to function without a real system of governance. While there are chiefs in Nuer society, the role of chief tends to be limited to that of a mediator. The findings of E.E. Evans Pritchard serve as an example of the importance of ethnographic fieldwork and cultural relativism. People have an inherent tendency to drift towards ethnocentrism if they do not keep an open mind about the legitimacy of foreign cultural ideas. Enculturalization occurs from the very beginning of one s life. When one grows up in a culture that praises traits that are deemed as beneficial and discourages behaviors that are seen as harmful, one tends to develop similar beliefs on these traits and behaviors. Different cultures encourage different outlooks on society. This is the result of the environment a culture exists in. In many tribal societies, one of the primary influences on culture is the physical environment. However, in technologically advanced societies that worry less about satisfying needs and more about fulfilling desires, social aspects are perhaps more significant. For example, note the difference between American and Japanese culture. American culture promotes individualism and free speech. Many Americans tote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights ... • 10. Renewable Energy Sources Of Energy The worldwide demand of energy has been increasing considerably. Up to 2030, it is supposed to be 60% higher than today (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). Currently, non renewable energy sources, like coal and oil, are more commonly used, since they are cheaper than renewable energies. In the European Union, 80% of the energy consumption demands are covered by fossil sources (B. SCHMITZ, 2013). But, non renewable energy sources are running out and they are also very harmful for the environment, since they generate greenhouse gases. So, it is very important to discover more renewable ways to generate energy. For a very long time, the only energy source that mankind had was the human muscle. After that they discovered the fire and the animal domestication providing them a source of heat and help from horses to plough their fields. The only other accessible sources of energy that they could explore were wind and water. Sails were used on ships allowing people to move across water, windmills and water wheels were used to grind grains and pump water. At the end the 18th century Europeans discovered the power of non renewable energy sources and started to use fossil fuels, first coal then oil and natural gas. With these new energy sources, a lot of new technologies were invented over the years until in 1700 and 1800 when the industrial revolution occurred. These new technologies based in fossil fuels allowed an exponential increase in the population and living standards. But, this increase in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are different stages of the disease that range from mild, moderate, and severe. • 23. Theme Of Redemption In The Hunger Games In many works of literature and film there are many biblical illusions and parallels that have been explored. The Hunger Games explores many themes from the Bible, the overall theme being redemption. In the Bible there are stories that foreshadow the redemption of christ. While Katniss story isn t the final redemption of Panem, she hopes that one day Panem will be restored. Other themes in The Hunger Games also align with themes such as suffering, war, and love. Redemption as the overall theme throughout both texts is shown through the act of self sacrifice, which alludes to they way that Jesus brings redemption to humanity. This is supported in the Bible as Ephesians 1:7 states 7 in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, this quote refers to the sacrifice that Christ made for man kind. It reenforces that it is only through laying down your life for others that life has any purpose at all. Like Jesus, Katniss comes from a very marginalised place in the world. Throughout the book, Camus gives plenty of absurd scenarios that are carried out by the characters. This essay will point out many of the parts from the book which are great examples of this topic. In the beginning of the book, the main character and narrator, Meursault, is notified that his mother has passed away. She lived in an old people s home because she was sick and Meursault could not afford to take care of her. The absurd part about this event, is the fact that Meursault did not even shed a tear at his own mother s funeral. Another ridiculous part is that he did not even know her age! He was asked by one of the undertakers, Was she old? And Meursault replied, Fairly, then after stating, because I didn t know the exact number, (p.16). It is completely absurd to not know your own mother s age. Meursault also didn t want to look at his mother in the casket. Instead, he drank coffee and smoked during the funeral. That is purely absurd to do at one s own mother s funeral. Another example of absurdity in the book, The Stranger, would be Meursault s feelings towards his girlfriend, Marie. They have a very intimate relationship and Marie even tells Meursault that she loves him. However, when Marie asked if he loved her back, he replied that he did not. As strong and intimate their relationship is, it is almost absurd for Meursault to say that he doesn t love her. He even fantasizes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nonetheless, there is always a decision made that has its consequences (want or not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address the importance of choices. The author uses the character of Balducci to show what happens when people follow the rules without hesitation. For example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave the Arab with Daru, and Daru shows himself discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says, Those are the orders (Camus). Balducci as a man of law must follow whatever thing is said to him, and he will do it for sure without dubiety; in addition, Balducci remarks, [Y]ou must sign, that s the rule (Camus). He has to obey all the requisites and commandments that his work dictates, and he can t avoid doing this because he will break all the goodness that justice represents. Nevertheless, Camus tries to point out if a person who only follow a guide or manual for every decision he or she made. That person is, in fact, making no choices, and he or she does not have to face and think about what is right or wrong because that person will search and do whatever is said in that guide. • 35. Unreasonable Foolishness In The Gift Of Magi Many people would consider the story, The Gift of Magi , an act of foolishness, but there is more to the tale than unreasonable foolishness. The sacrifices the main characters, Jim and Della Dillingham Young, made for each other were what many people would call an act of true love and generosity. They had no money for Christmas, although they did have something of substance to trade. Della had her long, beautiful hair and Jim had his pocket watch. They sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house (161). Jim and Della gave all they had for each other. According to O. Henry, they could be considered Magi. The Dillingham Young s did not stop to consider how they would be affected. They thought of each other s happiness before their own. Instead, they sell their greatest treasures to buy the other a gift for Christmas. The story of The Gift of the Magi shows the underlying meaning to be truly wealthy and to sacrifice everything for it. Wealth is more than money to countless people. Love and happiness is the key to wealth. Jim and Della may not have money but they are indeed wealthy. Love is more important than any possession or gift anyone can contain. O. Henry illustrated that within The Gift of the Magi . He showed that love and happiness is the true wealth of life by using literary elements like symbolism, the type of narrator, and irony. In the beginning, the story tells about how Della does not have any money to purchase a gift for her husband, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
