Synthesis Work and Worker in 21 Century
Dương Vũ Đức Phạm Thanh Hà Composition 2 4 November 2014 Optimism Pessimism in the
changes of American Workforce: Reason? Considering how long the humanity has been in existence,
Finding Jobs is a extremely difficult concept. There are many arguments about how to find and keep a
job in today s world and ways to make it more practical. In The Untouchables , author Thomas
L.Friedman discusses how the American fungible and non fungible jobs are affected by the
Globalization. In Hudson Institute s article Work and Workers in the Twenty First Century , their
analysts show their opinions about the current trend of jobs in the near future and envision it in the
next twenty plus years. In both articles the authors discuss the topics of ... Show more content on

Second, both author discuss what is the effect in the changes of job because of outsoucing. According
to Friedman, some jobs are lost to the outsource (some to China, some to India), he said Not only does
my work have to fit into somebody s global supply chain, but i myself have to understand how I need
to compete and have skills sets required to work at pace that fits the supply chain and I had better be
able to do that as well or better than anyone else in this world . Hudson Analysts show that 20% of
U.S manufacturing workers now have jobs that depend on exports. So the workers will not only
compete with their counterparts across town or in other parts of the U.S, but also with workers around
the globe. Then Employment growth, meanwhile, will remain concentrated in services, which also
will benefit increasingly from export markets and will offer high salaries for skilled workers. And For
those who maintain and improve their skills, the changes should bring increasing rewards, but it will
be traumatic for those who fall behind the skills curve and resist retraining. Last, the changing is
affected by some other aspect such as Ages, Ethnic Diversification and Digitizing. Thomas L.
Friedman said that most jobs in U.S now is outsourced by automated and digitized. And Hudson show

Internist Personal Statement
The American Dream is that any man or woman, despite his or her background, can change their

Living the American dream with my husband, who is now a third year resident physician. We started

better future and brighter career. We both believed that obtaining a high quality training in the United

diagnose diseases, when no diagnostic equipment was available. On contrary, I became competent in
managing cardiac and pulmonary emergencies when I worked in a teaching hospital. I also learned
many procedures, including pleural aspiration and assisted in chest tube insertion. In addition to that
observed some advanced medical technologies, for example, Ultrasound guided bronchial biopsy. This

The Power Of Poetry
Poetry s powerful impact is incumbent upon its capacity to communicate a message and inspire its
audience to react. The power of poetry consists of three vital points: content, impact, and relevance.
Poetry is powerful; however, not every reader will find its power in the same way, or find power in it
at all. It is not that one type of poem is inherently more powerful than another. What it is, however, is
that the value of poetry comes from a subjective place. Some poems may sit well with one audience
but may not connect to another audience. Readers are the ones who determine exactly which pieces of
poetry are powerful. When you combine radical feminism with amazing literary skills you obtain the
astonishing powers of Adrienne Rich, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although poetry may seem timeless it does not necessarily mean that this is true. Some say that
history repeats itself, however we can see this only happen to an extent. The subject s of Shakespeare s
works may not apply to most people today. However the relevance a poem is determined by the reader
themselves and their personal experiences or those they have seen others partake in. Audre Lorde is
one of the most influential black female poets of her generation empowering people through her words
to take action on the issues that matter most to them. She began writing in her early teens and her
range of work expands from homophobia, sexism, and social injustice. I find her work Power to be
one of the most influential pieces of writing that our class has discussed. Power is short poem about a
social injustice among the African American community. The poem, although may not be relatable to
every reader s experience, has such strong imagery that it is able to impact everyone in some way.
Lorde depicts, I am trapped on a desert of raw gunshot wounds and a dead child dragging his shattered
black face off the edge of my sleep blood from his punctured cheeks and shoulders After reading this
short stanza the audience is placed in the narrator s shoes. Furthermore, this allows the reader to
further identify with the context and content of the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Hockey Immoral By Edward Mcclelland
There are many images that the word hockey conjures up. Gen X ers might remember Game on! from
Wayne s World, while San Antonians might think of hockey as the other sport played in the AT T
center. Edward McClelland s article Blame Canada! Fighting Has Turned Hockey Immoral attempts to
explore the differences between National Hockey League (NHL) and international styles of play and
call for reforms to the current practices in the NHL. In order to evaluate McClelland s article
thoroughly, it is important to consider the use of rhetorical strategies and structure.
One of the claims McClelland puts forth in the article concerns the role of the enforcer, also referred
to as goon throughout the article. The author does not define the term, ... Show more content on

percent of readers are well educated and sixty percent of its readers are male. This information seems
to align with McClelland s intended audience. However, there is no direct information indicating the
readers interest in sports. In contrast to another online magazine such as The Daily Beast, no section
of the site is dedicated exclusively to sports, indicating that Salon might not be the go to place for
sports news and analysis. A quick web search of the author also reveals that McClelland does not
usually cover sports; his usual topics do not even seem to be tangentially sports related. While this
information does not necessarily mean that readers should discount everything he says, it does call
into question his authority on the subject and shed some light on his over reliance on first person

Beethoven s 9th Symphony Analysis
This production of Beethoven s 9th Symphony was presented by the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra in
conjunction with The Lubbock Chorale and The Texas Tech University Choir. The performance was
held in the Lubbock Civic Center Theatre on October 13th and 14th at 7:30p.m. As a performer in the
University Choir, I was required to attend and perform both nights which allowed me the opportunity
to observe two different audiences. The audience on the night of the 13th was obviously better
prepared to handle such a long and mercurial major work. This was evident in the audience s reactions
to the ends of movements. The long standing and unwritten rule of waiting until the end of a major
work to clap was followed silently and diligently. This audience was mostly made up of adults
obviously over the age of fifty that are regular attendees and patrons of the Lubbock Symphony
Orchestra. Following thereafter in group size were the students, specifically Texas Tech and
surrounding area high school students. At this performance the amount of attending children was few
to none, as I could not see or hear any. The second audience mimicked the preceding audience in size
and age, however, this audience s reaction of clapping at the end of movements was highly undesired
by the performers, Maestro Cho, and the remaining members of the audience that understand the
unwritten rules of attending these types of concerts.
These types of reactions by inexperienced audiences make listening to or concentrating on great
performances of beautiful music very difficult. Not only do these translate to distractions for the
performers, but applause betwixt the movements can interrupt the flow of the work and thwart the
intended effect that the composer and conductor wish to have on the audience. This audience reaction
can also take away and distract from the atmosphere of the performance, which, in this case was a
relatively small and intimate concert hall.
Because this concert was only a performance of Beethoven s 9th Symphony, I will react to movements
two and four, the Scherzo and Recitative respectively. The Scherzo (second) movement was
characterized by Beethoven s ability to keep the constant presto eighth note motive throughout the

A Brief Note On Financial Derivatives
Financial Derivatives Introduction Derivatives are financial instruments whose values are derived
from the values of other, more basic, entities, known as the underlying assets. For example, the value
of a stock option depends on the price of the relevant stock. Derivatives Markets In the financial
markets derivatives are traded on:  Stocks  Stock indices  Exchange rates  Interest rates 
Bonds  Credit risk  Commodities (such as electricity, wheat, oil) [4] Derivatives are traded in two
different ways they are traded either on an exchange or over the counter (OTC). The advantage of
trading derivatives on an exchange is that the contracts are standardized by the exchange and credit
risk is eliminated. Open outcry system was used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mainstreaming of National Australia Bank: The most widely used the perspective of cultural change
and can reflect very tangible and visible across the organization (Schultz, 1994). There must be a
consensus across the organization and that can be reflected through different media organizations such
as performance targets and metrics, formal and informal rules, business strategies and management
practices governing the stories.
Differentiation Perspective: Culture is considered as an amalgam of different cultures combined or
picked up that bind within the limits of the organization as a whole (Martin, 2002). Since it is more
focused on the contradictions at the core of the culture that gives the organization the opportunity to
correct these inconsistencies best culture background. If inconsistencies are identified various cultural

Perspective: This perspective does not follow the opinion of integration and differentiation of cultural

Racial Profiling by Police is Not Justified Essay
Even the United States struggles with issues of racial discrimination despite being a society highly
based on immigrants and multicultural diversity. On one hand, people frown on treatment based on
race, whether that is on an individual or group level. On the other, people are tired and annoyed by the
seemingly constant call of discrimination. All of these feelings culminate into the debate pertaining to
the use of racial profiling. Likewise, there are some individuals that hold a certain level of acceptance
in regard to racial profiling. However, what is lost in the process because of that acceptance? There are
many components that need to be thought about in reference to the use of racial profiling. In addition,
it can be viewed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In relation to the debate of racial profiling, Taylor and Whitney define racial profiling as the practice
of questioning blacks in disproportionate numbers in expectation that they are more likely than people
of other races to be criminals (Taylor Whitney, 2002). Statistics show that African Americans and
Hispanics commit more crime than Caucasians, with 90% of the 1.7 million interracial crimes
stemming from the hands of African American men. Even looking at these numbers, does that make it
okay for the police to arrest and interrogate these racial minorities at such a high frequency? Where
are these statistics coming from? How accurate are they? Does the media provide a skewed analysis of
these findings? These are the types of questions that need to be addressed in regard to evaluating the
validity of racial profiling.
The annual National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) has been the primary method for gathering
data and providing these staggering statistics. The NCVS provides information gathered from the
victim, which includes information on crimes that went unreported to the police. The Uniform Crime
Report (UCR) is also a valid reference for gathering crime information within the United States. The
UCR only has information regarding crimes that were reported to the police, as well as arrests. Both
forums are used by the FBI. In addition, researchers use this information for their research. Even

Essay On The European Economic Crisis
The background to the World and European economic crisis.
The main cause of the 2008 9 financial crisis was caused by the collapse of the housing bubble within
the USA. But the housing bubble was created many years earlier. The Federal Reserve in the early part
of the 2000 s reduced its interest rates down from 6.5% to 1% within four years. This reduction in
rates was applied due to several events happening in the US economy at that time. Firstly the attacks
on the world trade center and the recession experienced had reduced taxes, which left a huge deficit in
the federal budget as well as the expensive attacks into Iraq Afghanistan. The US was also worried
about deflation due to a decline in asset prices, which was forcing companies to ... Show more content

They claimed that even if the borrower defaulted on the mortgage the value of the house was more
than the debt they owed and no losses would be incurred.
However in 2004, the US federal bank began to increase interest rates in order to combat the rise in
inflation, but this policy created a problem later, which led to house prices falling. Soon many
borrowers realized they had mortgages secured against properties worth more than the value of the
property itself. This led to a lot of borrowers defaulting and foreclosures happening which continued
to drive house prices down and in doing so reduced the capital available to financial institutions such
as banks. Also with the re introduction, by the US government bill not used since 1938 called Mark to
Market Accounting in 2007. This law required all financial institutions to report losses before they
occurred. As a result of the introduction of this Bill it caused financial institutions into having to

and in doing so led to the collapse of investment banks like Lehmann Bros. Equally large insurance
companies such as AIG were also on the verge of bankruptcy and needed bailouts from public taxes.

Weaknesses Of Ford Motor Company
Strengths The brand name of Ford and its loyal following of its well renowned product line are
strengths in the industry. Ford has long held the crown as the seller of the top selling truck line in the
U.S. The Mustang and the Taurus product lines have long held iconic status in the automobile
industry. Ford is also known as an affordable American brand with international appeal.
Weakness One of the weaknesses is higher cost compared to the competitors such as General Motors
and Chrysler. In addition, Ford has an abundance of an expensive supply of vehicle models that cost to
maintain. Ford is also known to have bad financial management and late in innovation.
External Opportunities The Ford Motor Company has the opportunity to sell off non core brands that
are not generating enough revenue. It has the opportunity to enhance the brand in emerging economies
and create innovation for new models like hybrids, electric, and hydrogen cars. They also have
reduced levels of debt.
Threats Huge debt and pension liability are one of Ford Motor Company s threats. Fierce competition
in the global market, global slowdown in car consumption and increasing raw material prices are
additional threats that Ford must face.

Comparing The Foundation Of Orthodoxy And The Canon
The Foundation of Orthodoxy and the Canon For years, the dispute about what is fact and what is
opinion has been present in the church. This debate is seen, in modern day, through the different
denominations that are under the Christianity banner. Under the banner of Christianity there are
Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Apostolic, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of God in Christ
(C.O.G.I.C), and Lutheran. Now, even though each of these denominations call themselves Christians,
their beliefs about the Christian kingdom are different. Some of the differences include Catholics, who

Now, at that time, I was only 12 years old, God had not endowed me with those gifts, but when I
answered him no, he began to act differently towards me. It was from that interaction that I began to
take notice of the different teachings in different denominations. Now, I tried to deepen my research
using the Online Library, but my results continued to come back not found, but I was able to go on
line and research some things regarding the denominational differences. I was able to find an online
article that discussed the wrongs of denominationalism. In the article the writer stated that the
definition for denominationalism is the tendency to separate into religious denominations (Copeland
2001). By this article, denominations are clearly non scriptural, because God is about unity, for as Paul
states in the book of Ephesians 4:4 6, There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one
hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all,
and through all, and in you all. Bibliography Copeland, Mark A. www.ChristianLibrary.org. 2001.

When It Comes To The Fourth Amendment And Searching A...
When it comes to the Fourth Amendment and searching a person s car or their person, there are a few
factors to take into consideration. In order for an officer to search an individual s car, they must have
consent, otherwise the search is unreasonable and whatever evidence seized could be inadmissible in
the court of law. However, it is possible to conduct a search without consent and seize evidence
without a warrant but there ought to be probable cause or reasonable suspicion. The two differ in the
sense that reasonable suspicion is based off past experiences and expertise. Probable cause is needed
for a search to take place; conversely if there is no probable cause but an officer has enough
reasonable suspicion, they still are allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, in Minnesota v. Dickerson (1993), if an officer can readily identify an object from
a pat down, they can use their discretion and experience and retrieve it if they know it to be true. If
they are unsure and take it, whatever was seized is inadmissible in court. In legal terms, this is known
as the plain feel doctrine. This allows a police officer to seize objects during a legitimate pat down
search if by plain feel he reasonably believes it to be contraband. Just because the plain feel doctrine
has been established does not granted officers the right to touch, it simply permits an officer to
interpret tactile sensations to identify an object during a pat down (Poulin, 1997 pg. 23).
There is a strong correlation between the Fourth Amendment and racial profiling. I asked a police
officer what they believed was the main reason for a lawsuit against an officer and they said violations
in regards to the Fourth Amendment followed by failure to act. Take the United States v. Brignoni
Ponce case for instance. A police officer pulled over a drive that looked to be Mexican because he
believed them to be an illegal immigrant. The problem was that officers were roving the border and
stopping individuals for no reason other than to see if they were illegal immigrants. The Fourth
Amendment held that a patrolman is prohibited to crowd the Mexican border just to stop and

geography of Japan and China is very similar while it in fact isn t. The issues that will be addressed

Similarly, this article discusses the theme of the complexity of action. This play depicts of how at
times the decision to act is usually influenced not only by coherent considerations, like the need for
inevitability but also by psychological, ethical as well as emotional factors. For instance, Hamlet is

Like when he acts he prefers to do it in a blind manner, recklessly as well as violently.

Likewise, this journal discusses the mystery of death as depicted in the play Hamlet. In the

Examples Of Disease Imagery In Macbeth
Humans have always had the need for power. Macbeth is a noble man that craves power, and when he
is offered a chance to grab that power, he takes it. The Tragedy of Macbeth, by Shakespeare, shows a
noble man like Macbeth, who is tempted with the thought of having power but eventually has to give
it up. The idea of sickness and healing is mentioned throughout the story to describe Scotland s tyrant
and the healing power of England. Shakespeare utilizes disease/healing imagery to reveal how
unnatural deeds breed unnatural consequences and how the suffering that ensues from the murder of
Duncan must ultimately be remedied via retribution.
The disease imagery reveals impurity. The proposal for control and gaining ability to rule Scotland is

Some of which include the destruction of the natural order, horses eating each other, wind strong
enough to blow down chimneys. The disease imagery in 3.2 reveals lack of conscience. After the
murder of the beloved king, the next set of kings flee the scene. Thus, resulting in a future tyrant
takeover. Nobles of Scotland become suspicious of Macbeth, especially Banquo, O, full of scorpions
is my mind, dear wife! Thou know st that Banquo and Fleance lives (3.2.40 1). The amount of power
Macbeth gaines after becoming King, informs him with numerous amounts of information on others.
He realizes in order to remain as king, he must get rid of anyone that is simply suspicious of him,
hence O, full of scorpions is my mind . Although, he does not realize this, Kings are supposed to heal
the diseased, for example the King of England can cure others with his touch meanwhile, Macbeth
infects additional people with his touch, Bloody instructions, which being taught return to plague the
inventor (1.7.9 10). Which means, what goes around comes around. Macbeth realizes all of his wrong
doings will haunt him in the end yet, he is determined to remove anyone who gets in his way. The
tyrant is slowly losing his sense of compassion toward others. This is one of the results of creating
your own path. Following the natural order Macbeth is supposed to be the king, due to what the

Compare And Contrast The Killers And The Darling
Different Cutlers
The Killers and The Darling are the two stories I decided to compare and contrast to the contemporary
Kurdistan because they implicitly and explicitly reveal so much about the culture, existed in both US
and Russia during late 19th century and early 20th century. The killers was written by Ernest
Hemingway and takes place in US during the 1920s, during Prohibition. The story starts when two
strike men, who do not behave properly, walk into a lunch room after several dialogues between
characters; it becomes clear that the two men are there to kill someone. Even though the target is
warned after several scenes, he does not react; accept for telling the one who warned him not to do
anything. Therefore, they no longer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the best in operetta, fairy pageants, excellent music hall singers, but is that what they want? Do they

proves that 19th century Russian were not so concerned with art and literature, and the reason for this
is because people at that time were not educated. Thus, they could not understand plays and enjoy
them. This is similar and different to present Kurdistan at the same time. In Kurdistan people seldom
go to watch a play because some Kurds think that plays are only for some intellectual people who can
understand what is going on in the play. Another reason is because children from the first levels of
school are not taught to love art and literature. And luck of having good theaters and artists is another
reason. Therefore, In both 19th century Russian and contemporary Kurdistan there is some kinds of
ignorance towards art and literature for different reasons as mentioned above.
In conclusion, there were many cultural differences and similarities between the two worlds of these to
stories and present Kurdistan. Nevertheless, in this essay I compared the most important cultural

There are over thirty three thousand types of fish that are abundant in most bodies of water. There are
many shapes and sizes of fish from the tiny ones that you can barely see to the monsters that prowl the
waters. Alligator gar have been unchanged over the past 100 million years (Zelenko). Alligator Gar are
prehistoric fish that have many interesting attributes that are worth knowing. Alligator Gar or
Atractosteus spatula is a freshwater fish that is the biggest out of the seven types of gar. They are
mainly found in North America and Mexico. They live in rivers and lakes and can sometimes be found
in brackish waters and in the Gulf of Mexico. They have long bodies with a short, wide, shovel shaped
bill (Gars). These bills resemble the snout of an Alligator. Their bodies are covered with diamond
shaped scales which create a protective layer. These scales are not like normal fish scales, they have
bone in them and are nearly impossible to get through. These scales help to protect the fish from one
of the only predators it has: Alligators. Alligator gars have gills like most fish, but what makes them
really unique is that they have an air bladder. They use this to supplement their gill breathing in low
oxygen environments (Gars). This allows them to inhabit waters that most other fish ... Show more

the outcome of the patient. Each crew member must undergo many education courses as well as hands

Emergency medical helicopters have an alarming history of crashes. The National Transportation

of flight risk are the pilots, the mechanics of the aircraft, crew training, maintenance, weather
conditions, time of day, and landing sites. The study showed that poor weather conditions posed the
greatest risk for helicopter crashes. Since, the study many improvements have been made to improve
the crash rate. It has been said that the sole decision is set on the pilot as to whether it is safe enough
to take the flight or not. The pilot must consider the weather conditions, aircraft maintainence, and
crew readiness. Medical personnel cannot make the decision to take the call. Medical personnel
should not tell the pilot the nature of the call, because this may deter the pilot s judgment. Currently

Mechanical And Chemical Digestion Of The Digestive System
Digestion is the process of breaking larger food particles into smaller particles that can pass through
the plasma membrane. The digestive system is in charge of this process. To begin, the mouth receives
food, breaking it into smaller particles by chewing, a form of mechanical digestion with the teeth, for
absorption. The tongue aids in this process of chewing and swallowing as a muscular organ.
Additionally, the salivary glands in the mouth secrete saliva to help lubricate the food and begin
chemical digestion with its digestive enzyme, salivary amylase. Also aiding in chemical digestion in
the mouth is mucin. When in the mouth, salivary mucins functions as a protective layer.
Once formed into a small rounded mass, called a bolus, the food passes through a sphincter, a
muscular ring that regulates the size of an opening, and enters the esophagus, a muscular tube leading
to the stomach. No additional digestion occurs here. For the food to travel, it is lubricated with mucus
and moved by peristalsis into the stomach. At the end of the esophagus, at the opening to the stomach,
is a sphincter. Once in the stomach, a J shaped organ in the upper left region of the abdominal cavity,
the food goes through additional mechanical and chemical digestion. The churning action of the
stomach muscles physically breaks down the food while the acids and enzymes released help
breakdown the nutrients. Hydrochloric acid, a strong acid, helps break down protein and destroy

The Theory Of Moral Reasoning
he tension between reason and emotion in the human psyche has intrigued philosophers and
psychologists for centuries. Under this theme, moral psychologists have investigated the roles of
reason and emotion in making moral judgements, which, in the context of moral dilemmas, involves
evaluating the acceptability of an action, given the virtues held by a specific culture (Haidt, 2001).
Moral reasoning involves the conscious, effortful, and controllable mental manipulation of
information, while moral emotions involve spontaneous, affectively charged judgements that lack
conscious reasoning (Haidt, 2001). While earlier rationalist approaches argued that moral reasoning
formed the basis of our moral judgements (Kohlberg, 1981), more recent approaches, such as Haidt s
(2001) Social Intuitionist Model, emphasise the role of affective processes, arguing that reasoned
judgements are rare, and that most examples of reasoning are simply post hoc rationalisations of
emotionally grounded judgements. The dual process model (DPM) (Greene, Nystrom, Engell, Darley,
Cohen, 2004) consolidates these two approaches, proposing that reason and emotion are distinct and
equally important processes, which are elicited to different extents by particular features of moral
situations, competing to form the final moral judgement. Under this model, Greene et al. (2004) made
a key distinction between personal and impersonal moral dilemmas. In the Trolley Dilemma, a
runaway trolley will kill five men

Self-Justification In Mistakes Were Made
Relationships: one of the most discussed topics in the world. If one isn t asking for advice on it, they
re giving it. But in order to give good advice or adhere to advice given, one must first take a step back,
look in the mirror and face themselves. In Mistakes Were Made (but not by me), the authors, Carol
Tarvis and Elliot Aronson, examine how self justification alters and shapes relationships, new and old,
through the good times and bad times. Both authors are well known for the great work they have done

Instead of using self justification to protect their own character and prevent character change, the
couple uses their differences to build each other up. ...No matter how painful it can be to let go of self
justification, the result teaches us something deeply important about ourselves and can bring peace of
insight and self acceptance (Tavris and Aronson 183). Therefore, the success of a relationship lies in
the removal of self justification and including more we instead of I or you statements. If a couple is
able to completely remove self justification from their relationship, they are more likely to grow with
each other and remain happy for many years to come. Often time, we see this in older couples. For
example, my grandparents were married over 50 years until the death of my grandmother. Even
though I know my grandma got on my granddad s nerves and vice versa, and they both made their
share of mistakes, I never witnessed a love stronger than theirs. When they got married my grandma
was 15 and my granddad was 18, so they had no choice but to grow with each other. They had to learn
about themselves while learning about each other, which I believe is the reason their relationship was
so strong. There was no time to maximize the faults of the other when raising four children in the
south in the 50 s. After interviewing my mother, she informed me that my grandparents often agreed
to disagree or compromised on situations where they both held differing opinions. She also stated that
marriages in their generation were seen as sacred, so her parents didn t believe in divorce. No matter

Re: Training Materials: Internal Revenue Agents
This is in reply to your request for information about internal revenue agents. The material will help
inform new employees about the demands and job requirements of an IRS agent. The information will
be separated into several categories; necessary qualities, prior experience, and daily duties. Mrs.
Angela Overstreet, IRS agent, happily helped our team gather information regarding the daily
demands of her job.
Necessary Qualities
Internal revenue agents not only need the basic skills required to perform auditing, but agents also
need important qualities such as integrity and commitment. A ... Show more content on

Documents will include complex amount of numbers with different meanings, and agents must be able
to identify problems through auditing.
Tax Law Books IRS agents must have prior experience with the various tax laws. However, a tax book
will be used extensively due to the vast amount of laws. Books will also be used to support claims of
fraudulent behavior.
Tax Returns The various amounts of tax returns, such as Form 706 and Form W 2, are used to
determine income tax. Returns will be compared with financial records to determine if the law is being
followed.
Financial Records Agents are given access to corporation s financial records in order to determine if
the law is being followed.

Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Essay
Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death
Neil Postman is deeply worried about what technology can do to a culture or, more importantly, what
technology can undo in a culture. In the case of television, Postman believes that, by happily
surrendering ourselves to it, Americans are losing the ability to conduct and participate in meaningful,
rational public discourse and public affairs. Or, to put it another way, TV is undoing public discourse
and, as the title of his book Amusing Ourselves to Death suggests, we are willing accomplices.
Postman bases his argument on the belief that public discourse in America, when governed by the
epistemology of the printing press, was generally coherent, serious, and rational (16) because ... Show

Postman says that, as a result, all public understanding of these subjects is shaped by the biases of
television (78) and that in the absence of rational discourse, cultural decay is sure to follow.
In an effort to expose the epistemology of television, which Postman believes has not been effectively
addressed, he examines the effects of TV on several important American cultural institutions: news,
religion, politics and education. All four institutions, Postman argues, have realized that they have to
go on television in order to be noticed which, in turn, requires them to learn the language of TV if they
are to reach the people. Therefore, they have joined the national conversation not on their own terms,
but on TV s terms. Postman contends that this transformation of our major institutions has trivialized
what is most important about them and turned our culture into one vast arena for show business (80).
In the case of broadcast news, we see visually stimulating, disconnected stories about murder and
mayhem along with a healthy dose of infotainment delivered by friendly and likeable anchors that
remind us to tune in tomorrow . In the case of politics, we have discourse through distorted paid TV
commercials and debates in which the appearance of having said something important is

Swift s Political Proposal
Swift s overall purpose in writing such an outrageous text is to satirize the vehicle of a political
proposal while lambasting landlords for their cruelty, greed, and lack of compassion which has caused
and perpetuated Irish poverty. He sarcastically analyzes the situation of poverty by using numbers,
statistics, and brute logic, all while ignoring the most obvious main concern of his proposal the moral
issue of eating children. This emphasizes the tendency of such proposals to turn people into numbers
and analyze from an economic and political perspective as opposed to seeing issues in a more human
light. By writing with these intentions, Swift hopes to bring a change in attitudes from the people of
Ireland to become more compassionate and

Essay about The Impact of the RSS Breach on Critical...
RSA is a division of EMC Corporation that offers security products to businesses and government
agencies. RSA s flagship product is SecurID, a combination of two factor authentication tokens
(hardware and software) and the associated server software used in their implementation. This product
aims to deliver secure remote access, including access to critical infrastructure. In 2009, it was
estimated RSA had about 40 million tokens and 250 million mobile software versions deployed in
over 25,000 organizations , including banks, government, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical
companies (Rashid, 2011). In this paper we will examine the 2011 breach of RSA involving the

Through a coordinated effort, RSA worked with law enforcement, the intelligence community, and
other commercial entities.
RSA s actions stand in contrast to many corporations that do not acknowledge breaches of sensitive
information systems for fear of alarming shareholders and exposing the corporation to lawsuits
(Gross, 2011). Even when evidence points to nation state involvement (most often China), many
companies still refuse to acknowledge breaches. The fear of offending the Chinese and jeopardizing
their share of that country s exploding markets is reason enough to remain quiet (Gross). Despite
mounting evidence, the U.S. government, for its part, has been fecklessly circumspect in calling out
the Chinese (Gross).
Incident Recovery
Recovery after the breach at RSA was not limited to the RSA environment. Due to the widespread
implementation of RSA tokens across industry and government agencies (and its contractors) the
breach had far reaching implications across multiple sectors.
In an attempt to mitigate potential attacks on its customers environments related to the stolen
information, RSA outlined nine steps customers could take to harden their IT infrastructures and
reduce their chances of being breached (Gov InfoSecurity). While the recommended steps were
followed by defense contractor Lockheed Martin, they were later breached in an attack related to the
initial RSA breach

Battle of the Alamo Essay
Introduction The siege, fall and ensuing massacre of nearly two hundred Alamo defenders at the hands
of Mexican General, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna y Perez de Lebron s army of over five thousand
was a defining moment in both Texan, and American history. For 13 days against insurmountable
odds, a small, but very determined Texan garrison force fended off an equally determined Mexican
Army ordered to capture it. I ll discuss the events and political climate leading up to the siege, key
historic figures involved on both sides, the siege itself, along with events immediately following the
battle. The iconic phrase, Remember the Alamo! would later go on to become a rallying cry at the
Battle of San Jacinto. On that fateful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moses Austin would not live to see it come to fruition as he was attacked my highway men and died
shortly thereafter. That would fall on his son, Stephen F. Austin, who is often referred to as the Father
of Texas . Austin and the other settlers were drawn to the territory by grants and deferred taxation
provided by the Spanish government; however, in 1821 Mexico declared independence from Spain.
Austin was concerned that the new independent Mexican government would not recognize the
previous arrangements made with his father. He would have to travel all the way to Mexico City to
make his case, and in 1823 the Mexican Congress confirmed Austin s grant. In 1824 the Mexican
government ratified the country s first Constitution, but in doing so split the country into two
diametrically opposed political ideologies. On one side you had the centralists, who favored the
central government possessing much of the authority. The other was the federalists, who were in favor
of states rights. In 1834, Santa Anna emerged as a military dictator and overturned the Constitution of
1824. In October 1835 the centralist congress dissolved the state legislatures and transformed the
former states into military departments. When the federalists resisted the centralist coup, Mexico
descended into civil war. December 1835 marked the first major victory of the Texan militia in open

Symbolism of Mount Rushmore Essay
The View from Mount Rushmore
Amidst the Black Hills of South Dakota, the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln watch over the nation. George Washington, often called
the father of the nation, was a leader in the American Revolutionary War to win independence from
Great Britain and later became the first president of the United States. Thomas Jefferson wrote the
Declaration of Independence and added territory that doubled the size of the nation through the
Louisiana Purchase. Theodore Roosevelt demonstrated strength, sought to improve the country
through the Progressive movement, and constructed the Panama Canal (Nsp.gov). Abraham Lincoln

Ideographs function to elicit emotion from the public through their association to common concepts
and their application to different societal issues. Words like freedom and democracy act as ideographs
in that they have certain connotations and that are then manipulated according to the cultural situation.
An ideograph as outlined by McGee has four critical characteristics: it is able to warrant power or
guide behavior; it is used in political discourse; it is an abstraction representing collective
commitment; and it is culture bound (205 209). Janis L. Edwards and Carol K. Winkler in their study
Representative Form and the Visual Ideograph: The Iwo Jima Image in Editorial Cartoons argue
against Michael McGee s belief that ideographs are limited to verbal language (198 212). They protest
that visual images can also be used as ideographs because they fulfill McGee s formulated features of
an ideograph and are not merely icons, which are visual representations of words that always
symbolize the same concept or idea. The utilization of Mount Rushmore in editorial cartoons
functions as an example of a visual ideograph as distinguished by Edwards and Winkler. Through an
analysis of editorial cartoons with the Mount Rushmore image, I will provide further evidence to
Edwards s and Winkler s claim that visual images can exist as ideographs by fulfilling the major
characteristics of an ideograph as defined by McGee.

Thomas Book Report
Towards the end of the book, we find out that all of the Gladers were named after famous geniuses
(Dashner 303). W.I.C.K.E.D. did this to relate each of the kids to a smart namesake. When I read this,
I wondered if this somehow had a deeper meaning. Did the Creators give names out randomly or did
they match up each Glader with a name that fit their personality? THOMAS Thomas was named after
the late, great Thomas Edison. I realized that both of them share common traits. Thomas (Tom)
Thomas Edison Always Keep Trying Attitude Never Gave Up Challenges Everyone/Everything
Leader Shares His Idea(s) Takes Notes Curious Ask Questions From this, I can infer that because
Thomas was so crucial to finding the Cure, they gave him a name that meant something. Like Edison,
Tom questioned why things were the way they were. As Tom becomes more involved in Maze, and
becomes a Runner himself, he noticed details that have been overlooked by others for two years. He
came and looked at everything with a new perspective. A new light. (Yes, I really just made that
horrible pun). Therefore, I believe that W.I.C.K.E.D selected Thomas to have a ... Show more content

Why would this be? These two characters were enemies in this book. What symbolism could be
behind this? First off, it is clear that both Galileo and Edison were people of great brilliance, yet they
studied completely different things. Edison could be considered a polymath of an inventor. Galileo
was a polymath. Both are seen as great people in our history. Secondly, I have shown you in the
previous paragraphs that only Thomas and Gally are similar to the geniuses they were named after. If
the individuals they were named after were looked up to, could one day, both of the boys be
considered as important people in history as well? Is it possible that both of the boys could have been

The Differences Between The Native Taiwanese And...
When I was younger, I didn t quite understand the differences between the Native Taiwanese and
Mainlander in Taiwan, where Mainlander referred to Chinese migrants during or after the period of the
surrender of Imperial Japan, and World War II. It wasn t until much later that I understood why
Taiwanese divided among themselves. I was told that my mother s side of family have experienced the
White Terror, which refers to the entire period from 1947 to 1987, during this period, many of the
family lands was confiscated by the Kuomintang, the Chinese nationalist party. It was also during the
White Terror period that Mandarin Chinese language was established as the official language of
Taiwan, and the other native language mainly Taiwanese was considered as taboo and forbidden. The
language differences are especially obvious between Northern and Southern of Taiwan, while my
mother s side of the family resident in the South, as I grow up in the North, I speak mainly Mandarin
Chinese, and I can understand but not quite fluent in Taiwanese.
My grandfather on my father s side was a general of the Chinese military that defeated the Nationalists
and declaring the People s Republic of China then retreat to Taiwan in 1949. He stayed in the military
and retired at an older age. As for my mother s side of the family whom has resided in Taiwan during
and likely before the period between 1895 and 1945, while Taiwan was under Japanese rule and was a
dependency of the Empire of Japan. They

Bachelor Of Kinesiology Program Analysis
Good morning members of the University of Toronto admissions board. I would just like to begin by
thanking you all for allowing me to stand here in front of you today as you listen to my application for
a spot in your Bachelor of Kinesiology Program. After a long pursuit of trying to find the right
program, I came across yours and once I read the program description I knew right away that this was
the program for me. Not only do I think that this program is the perfect fit for me, I also believe that I
am the most deserving candidate. But why you may ask? What separates me from the rest? Three
reasons why I would make a deserving candidate for your Bachelor of Kinesiology Program include
the following: I possess a superlative work ethic, I have a passion to learn about the human body,
along with my remarkable interpersonal skills.
The first thing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From an early age I have been fascinated by the workings of life. The human body is a remarkable
machine, the way bones break, muscles tear, and how when injuries like that happen your body
instantly starts to repair itself. My passion for the human body continues to grow each day, and when I
find out new information on it I can t help but become infatuated. For instance, I remember my mom
used to get these really bad leg cramps, she explained it as a sharp, excruciating pain that made her
unable to even stand, and I would always help her by massaging the area. It got to the point where
every time she got a cramp she would call out for me to help her because I always made the pain go
away. Our body is something that we have with us forever and to me, learning about our body s
physiological and biomechanical responses to exercise is something that intrigues me. Your
Kinesiology program focuses a lot on these topics, and I think that this course would be extremely
beneficial to

A Streetcar Named Desire Compare And Contrast
A Streetcar Named Desire s original drafts were started in the early 1940s by playwright Tennessee
Williams, who prepared and tested numerous titles for the work. Eventually, the completed play
opened on December 3, 1947 in New York City staring Marlon Brando as Stanley Kowalski and
directed by Elia Kazan. This run of Streetcar lasted 855 performances until 1949 and won Williams a
Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. Later, in 1951, the film version was
adapted and stared Brando along side Vivien Leigh as Blanche with Kazan holding the seat as director
once again. Both the play and film adaptations of A Streetcar Named Desire have received critical
acclaim and much success, so much so that Williams work is both ... Show more content on

She spends most of the first scene talking down to Stella, mentioning that she looks as if she s put on
weight while praising herself for remaining the same size since they last saw each other. She dresses
in rhinestone crowns, fluffy bodices and pearl necklaces and earrings. Her wardrobe appears to be
filled with clothing that s either white or and pastels, colors that one easily associates with purity.
Yet, she is capable of manipulation and adept at spinning lies as clearly evidenced by her constant lies
about a Mr. Shep Huntleigh, who does not really exist, or her lies about being on a leave of absence.
This is also clear based on her manipulation of Mitch, played by Karl Malden, into making him fall
for her or her emotional manipulation of Stella. Beneath this façade, Blanche seems to be terrified of
losing control and terrified of reality. She spends a lot of the play and film sneaking drinks so that she
can calm her nerves and one could even argue that her manipulation is simply her creating a reality
that she doesn t have to be so afraid of.
Blanche struggles to maintain her glamorous façade and here in lies her greatest conflict; keeping up
with her lies and not mixing reality and fantasy Blanche fails to discern between reality and fantasy
and gets caught in her lies. She can never quite get her story straight Blanche struggles to maintain
some semblance of control in her life after she seems to have lost so much of it in the

Healthy Eating Persuasive Speech
I adore Gwyneth Paltrow. But much like my love of blue cheese and the Macarena, it s a devotion my
friends don t necessarily understand. Gwyneth Paltrow isn t that the one who tells people to sustain
themselves on algae and sprouts and to clean their vaginas with steam? they often ask.
Sure, Gwyneth Paltrow is one of these celebrities with a bag full of life improving advice. In general, I
hate people who try to tell me that my lifestyle isn t good enough. I, more or less, eat vegetarian plus I
did two sit ups last week. I m living my life the best I can. To me, keeping up with the newest trends in
healthy eating is just as stressful and superficial as following the crazy antics of the Kardashians.

I baked a cake with it and was treated as if I was trying to slip them some crack. Apparently agave
syrup is no longer healthy it causes cancer. Why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

shellfish, deep sea fish, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, corn, gluten, meat, and soy, a.k.a.
everything that makes life worth living.
Shocked at this puritanism, my jaw dropped, and I m pretty sure I spat out a few peppers and an entire

pretentious lifestyle optimization? I had to try it out and

The Literary Works That I Will Be Featuring
The two literary works that I will be featuring are a short story and novel; both set centuries apart yet,
connect with one another in linguistic principles. Both horror writers and with this genre, semantics
can be quite fascinating. Both King and Poe, focus on the various levels of semantics horror and
psychological. The semantic perspective of Christine are that of modern day slang, teenage
symbolism. With semantic idioms and jokes, you would see the humor behind the man with the scary
mask. Christine s characters are teenagers, besides the a little parental irresponsibility, with these
hormonal teens, plus Christine. Arnie and Dennis, were full of idioms, such as, I just had this call to
nature, or I gotta take a whiz! (King) Some commonly used idioms were most directly, ones of love
and anger. Arnie due to the possession or should I say obsession of Christine, his vocabulary goes
from chess club nerb to garage bralling bully. The bully, Repperton was as rough and ignorant as they
come and he spoke like it. Keep your jock on, man or as Dennis put it, Eat me raw through a Flavor
Straw! (King) These guys were the kings of semantic idioms. The semantic perspective is about
understanding meaning in words and their sentence structure. Shifts in meaning changes, especially
with slang words. The meaning of this popular American English culture novel was a metaphorical
teenage love triangle. For Poe, his short story, The Tell Tale Heart would be dramatically

Considering how long the humanity has been in existence, Finding Jobs is a extremely difficult concept. There are many arguments about how to find and keep a job in today s world and ways to make it more practical. In The Untouchables , author Thomas L.Friedman discusses how the American fungible and non fungible jobs are affected by the Globalization. According to Friedman, some jobs are lost to the outsource (some to China, some to India), he said Not only does my work have to fit into somebody s global supply chain, but i myself have to understand how I need to compete and have skills sets required to work at pace that fits the supply chain and I had better be able to do that as well or better than anyone else in this world . Hudson Analysts show that 20% of U.S manufacturing workers now have jobs that depend on exports. So the workers will not only compete with their counterparts across town or in other parts of the U.S, but also with workers around the globe. Then Employment growth, meanwhile, will remain concentrated in services, which also will benefit increasingly from export markets and will offer high salaries for skilled workers. And For those who maintain and improve their skills, the changes should bring increasing rewards, but it will be traumatic for those who fall behind the skills curve and resist retraining. Last, the changing is affected by some other aspect such as Ages, Ethnic Diversification and Digitizing. Thomas L. Friedman said that most jobs in U.S now is outsourced by automated and digitized. • 5. The Power Of Poetry Poetry s powerful impact is incumbent upon its capacity to communicate a message and inspire its audience to react. The power of poetry consists of three vital points: content, impact, and relevance. Poetry is powerful; however, not every reader will find its power in the same way, or find power in it at all. It is not that one type of poem is inherently more powerful than another. What it is, however, is that the value of poetry comes from a subjective place. Some poems may sit well with one audience but may not connect to another audience. Readers are the ones who determine exactly which pieces of poetry are powerful. Although poetry may seem timeless it does not necessarily mean that this is true. Some say that history repeats itself, however we can see this only happen to an extent. The subject s of Shakespeare s works may not apply to most people today. However the relevance a poem is determined by the reader themselves and their personal experiences or those they have seen others partake in. Audre Lorde is one of the most influential black female poets of her generation empowering people through her words to take action on the issues that matter most to them. She began writing in her early teens and her range of work expands from homophobia, sexism, and social injustice. I find her work Power to be one of the most influential pieces of writing that our class has discussed. Power is short poem about a social injustice among the African American community. The poem, although may not be relatable to every reader s experience, has such strong imagery that it is able to impact everyone in some way. Lorde depicts, I am trapped on a desert of raw gunshot wounds and a dead child dragging his shattered black face off the edge of my sleep blood from his punctured cheeks and shoulders After reading this short stanza the audience is placed in the narrator s shoes. Gen X ers might remember Game on! from Wayne s World, while San Antonians might think of hockey as the other sport played in the AT T center. Edward McClelland s article Blame Canada! Fighting Has Turned Hockey Immoral attempts to explore the differences between National Hockey League (NHL) and international styles of play and call for reforms to the current practices in the NHL. In order to evaluate McClelland s article thoroughly, it is important to consider the use of rhetorical strategies and structure. • 8. Beethoven s 9th Symphony Analysis This production of Beethoven s 9th Symphony was presented by the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with The Lubbock Chorale and The Texas Tech University Choir. The performance was held in the Lubbock Civic Center Theatre on October 13th and 14th at 7:30p.m. As a performer in the University Choir, I was required to attend and perform both nights which allowed me the opportunity to observe two different audiences. The audience on the night of the 13th was obviously better prepared to handle such a long and mercurial major work. This was evident in the audience s reactions to the ends of movements. The long standing and unwritten rule of waiting until the end of a major work to clap was followed silently and diligently. This audience was mostly made up of adults obviously over the age of fifty that are regular attendees and patrons of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra. Following thereafter in group size were the students, specifically Texas Tech and surrounding area high school students. At this performance the amount of attending children was few to none, as I could not see or hear any. The second audience mimicked the preceding audience in size and age, however, this audience s reaction of clapping at the end of movements was highly undesired by the performers, Maestro Cho, and the remaining members of the audience that understand the unwritten rules of attending these types of concerts. These types of reactions by inexperienced audiences make listening to or concentrating on great performances of beautiful music very difficult. Not only do these translate to distractions for the performers, but applause betwixt the movements can interrupt the flow of the work and thwart the intended effect that the composer and conductor wish to have on the audience. This audience reaction can also take away and distract from the atmosphere of the performance, which, in this case was a relatively small and intimate concert hall. Because this concert was only a performance of Beethoven s 9th Symphony, I will react to movements two and four, the Scherzo and Recitative respectively. All of these feelings culminate into the debate pertaining to the use of racial profiling. Likewise, there are some individuals that hold a certain level of acceptance in regard to racial profiling. Even looking at these numbers, does that make it okay for the police to arrest and interrogate these racial minorities at such a high frequency? Where are these statistics coming from? How accurate are they? Does the media provide a skewed analysis of these findings? These are the types of questions that need to be addressed in regard to evaluating the validity of racial profiling. The annual National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) has been the primary method for gathering data and providing these staggering statistics. The NCVS provides information gathered from the victim, which includes information on crimes that went unreported to the police. The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) is also a valid reference for gathering crime information within the United States. The UCR only has information regarding crimes that were reported to the police, as well as arrests. Both forums are used by the FBI. In addition, researchers use this information for their research. • 14. Essay On The European Economic Crisis The background to the World and European economic crisis. The main cause of the 2008 9 financial crisis was caused by the collapse of the housing bubble within the USA. But the housing bubble was created many years earlier. The Federal Reserve in the early part of the 2000 s reduced its interest rates down from 6.5% to 1% within four years. This reduction in rates was applied due to several events happening in the US economy at that time. Firstly the attacks on the world trade center and the recession experienced had reduced taxes, which left a huge deficit in the federal budget as well as the expensive attacks into Iraq Afghanistan. The US was also worried about deflation due to a decline in asset prices, which was forcing companies to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They claimed that even if the borrower defaulted on the mortgage the value of the house was more than the debt they owed and no losses would be incurred. However in 2004, the US federal bank began to increase interest rates in order to combat the rise in inflation, but this policy created a problem later, which led to house prices falling. Soon many borrowers realized they had mortgages secured against properties worth more than the value of the property itself. This led to a lot of borrowers defaulting and foreclosures happening which continued to drive house prices down and in doing so reduced the capital available to financial institutions such as banks. Also with the re introduction, by the US government bill not used since 1938 called Mark to Market Accounting in 2007. This law required all financial institutions to report losses before they occurred. As a result of the introduction of this Bill it caused financial institutions into having to drastically reduce their capital available as any surpluses would be needed to cover expected losses and in doing so led to the collapse of investment banks like Lehmann Bros. Ford has long held the crown as the seller of the top selling truck line in the U.S. The Mustang and the Taurus product lines have long held iconic status in the automobile industry. Ford is also known as an affordable American brand with international appeal. Weakness One of the weaknesses is higher cost compared to the competitors such as General Motors and Chrysler. In addition, Ford has an abundance of an expensive supply of vehicle models that cost to maintain. Ford is also known to have bad financial management and late in innovation. External Opportunities The Ford Motor Company has the opportunity to sell off non core brands that are not generating enough revenue. It has the opportunity to enhance the brand in emerging economies and create innovation for new models like hybrids, electric, and hydrogen cars. They also have reduced levels of debt. Threats Huge debt and pension liability are one of Ford Motor Company s threats. This debate is seen, in modern day, through the different denominations that are under the Christianity banner. Under the banner of Christianity there are Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Apostolic, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist, Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C), and Lutheran. • 17. When It Comes To The Fourth Amendment And Searching A... When it comes to the Fourth Amendment and searching a person s car or their person, there are a few factors to take into consideration. In order for an officer to search an individual s car, they must have consent, otherwise the search is unreasonable and whatever evidence seized could be inadmissible in the court of law. However, it is possible to conduct a search without consent and seize evidence without a warrant but there ought to be probable cause or reasonable suspicion. The two differ in the sense that reasonable suspicion is based off past experiences and expertise. Probable cause is needed for a search to take place; conversely if there is no probable cause but an officer has enough reasonable suspicion, they still are allowed to ... Dickerson (1993), if an officer can readily identify an object from a pat down, they can use their discretion and experience and retrieve it if they know it to be true. If they are unsure and take it, whatever was seized is inadmissible in court. In legal terms, this is known as the plain feel doctrine. This allows a police officer to seize objects during a legitimate pat down search if by plain feel he reasonably believes it to be contraband. Just because the plain feel doctrine has been established does not granted officers the right to touch, it simply permits an officer to interpret tactile sensations to identify an object during a pat down (Poulin, 1997 pg. 23). There is a strong correlation between the Fourth Amendment and racial profiling. I asked a police officer what they believed was the main reason for a lawsuit against an officer and they said violations in regards to the Fourth Amendment followed by failure to act. Take the United States v. Brignoni Ponce case for instance. A police officer pulled over a drive that looked to be Mexican because he believed them to be an illegal immigrant. The problem was that officers were roving the border and stopping individuals for no reason other than to see if they were illegal immigrants. • 30. Mechanical And Chemical Digestion Of The Digestive System Digestion is the process of breaking larger food particles into smaller particles that can pass through the plasma membrane. The digestive system is in charge of this process. To begin, the mouth receives food, breaking it into smaller particles by chewing, a form of mechanical digestion with the teeth, for absorption. The tongue aids in this process of chewing and swallowing as a muscular organ. Additionally, the salivary glands in the mouth secrete saliva to help lubricate the food and begin chemical digestion with its digestive enzyme, salivary amylase. Also aiding in chemical digestion in the mouth is mucin. When in the mouth, salivary mucins functions as a protective layer. Once formed into a small rounded mass, called a bolus, the food passes through a sphincter, a muscular ring that regulates the size of an opening, and enters the esophagus, a muscular tube leading to the stomach. No additional digestion occurs here. For the food to travel, it is lubricated with mucus and moved by peristalsis into the stomach. At the end of the esophagus, at the opening to the stomach, is a sphincter. Once in the stomach, a J shaped organ in the upper left region of the abdominal cavity, the food goes through additional mechanical and chemical digestion. After a chemist named Bachner escaped from a death camp and exposed the Nazis usage of gas chambers, the sympathy for the Jews increased, including Schindler who now believed that he must work against the Nazis. He continued to hire Jews at his factory until Nazi SS Commandant Amon Goeth was put in charge of closing the Krakow ghetto by sending 2,000 Jewish inhabitants to Auschwitz and transporting 10,000 to a camp in Plaszow. Schindler began having thoughts to himself about the treatment of the Jews, such as if God made man in His image, which race is most like Him? Is a Pole more like Him than a Czech? (Keneally 1993). The ghetto was closed and all the Jews were moved but Schindler managed to have his Jewish workers cleared to travel to his factory. Plaszow was worse than the ghetto, as many died from sickness, exhaustion, or just killed for sport by Goeth, who oversaw the camp. Schindler sought out permission to build his own sub camp near his factory, and although it looked the same as the Plaszow camp, the Jews are treated more humanely. • 35. The Theory Of Moral Reasoning he tension between reason and emotion in the human psyche has intrigued philosophers and psychologists for centuries. Under this theme, moral psychologists have investigated the roles of reason and emotion in making moral judgements, which, in the context of moral dilemmas, involves evaluating the acceptability of an action, given the virtues held by a specific culture (Haidt, 2001). Moral reasoning involves the conscious, effortful, and controllable mental manipulation of information, while moral emotions involve spontaneous, affectively charged judgements that lack conscious reasoning (Haidt, 2001). While earlier rationalist approaches argued that moral reasoning formed the basis of our moral judgements (Kohlberg, 1981), more recent approaches, such as Haidt s (2001) Social Intuitionist Model, emphasise the role of affective processes, arguing that reasoned judgements are rare, and that most examples of reasoning are simply post hoc rationalisations of emotionally grounded judgements. The dual process model (DPM) (Greene, Nystrom, Engell, Darley, Cohen, 2004) consolidates these two approaches, proposing that reason and emotion are distinct and equally important processes, which are elicited to different extents by particular features of moral situations, competing to form the final moral judgement. Under this model, Greene et al. (2004) made a key distinction between personal and impersonal moral dilemmas. In the Trolley Dilemma, a runaway trolley will kill five men ... But in order to give good advice or adhere to advice given, one must first take a step back, look in the mirror and face themselves. In Mistakes Were Made (but not by me), the authors, Carol Tarvis and Elliot Aronson, examine how self justification alters and shapes relationships, new and old, through the good times and bad times. Therefore, the success of a relationship lies in the removal of self justification and including more we instead of I or you statements. If a couple is able to completely remove self justification from their relationship, they are more likely to grow with each other and remain happy for many years to come. Often time, we see this in older couples. For example, my grandparents were married over 50 years until the death of my grandmother. Even though I know my grandma got on my granddad s nerves and vice versa, and they both made their share of mistakes, I never witnessed a love stronger than theirs. When they got married my grandma was 15 and my granddad was 18, so they had no choice but to grow with each other. They had to learn about themselves while learning about each other, which I believe is the reason their relationship was so strong. There was no time to maximize the faults of the other when raising four children in the south in the 50 s. After interviewing my mother, she informed me that my grandparents often agreed to disagree or compromised on situations where they both held differing opinions. Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Essay Truth Exposed in Amusing Ourselves to Death Neil Postman is deeply worried about what technology can do to a culture or, more importantly, what technology can undo in a culture. In the case of television, Postman believes that, by happily surrendering ourselves to it, Americans are losing the ability to conduct and participate in meaningful, rational public discourse and public affairs. Or, to put it another way, TV is undoing public discourse and, as the title of his book Amusing Ourselves to Death suggests, we are willing accomplices. Postman bases his argument on the belief that public discourse in America, when governed by the epistemology of the printing press, was generally coherent, serious, and rational (16) because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Postman says that, as a result, all public understanding of these subjects is shaped by the biases of television (78) and that in the absence of rational discourse, cultural decay is sure to follow. In an effort to expose the epistemology of television, which Postman believes has not been effectively addressed, he examines the effects of TV on several important American cultural institutions: news, religion, politics and education. All four institutions, Postman argues, have realized that they have to go on television in order to be noticed which, in turn, requires them to learn the language of TV if they are to reach the people. Therefore, they have joined the national conversation not on their own terms, but on TV s terms. Postman contends that this transformation of our major institutions has trivialized what is most important about them and turned our culture into one vast arena for show business (80). In the case of broadcast news, we see visually stimulating, disconnected stories about murder and mayhem along with a healthy dose of infotainment delivered by friendly and likeable anchors that remind us to tune in tomorrow . Janis L. Edwards and Carol K.
