Writing the Critical Response
WRITING THE CRITICAL RESPONSE
A critique is an analysis of and a commentary on another piece of writing. It generally focuses on
technique as well as on content.
A critical response essay (or interpretive essay or review) has two missions: to summarize a source s
main idea and to respond to the source s main ideas with reactions based on your synthesis.
Organization
Introduction: attention getting with a thesis statement
Body: clear critical reasoning and adequate examples
Summary
Analysis: Evaluate the evidence: sufficient (enough evidence, examples), representative (large enough
pool/sample), relevant (accurate correlations), accurate, claims fairly qualified
Response: base reaction on your own experience, prior knowledge, and ... Show more content on

CONSIDERATION According to new research published by Wayne State University 7 6 days,
children use computers have better academic skills than children who do not have access to this
device.
In a study in 122 children aged 3 to 5 years old, while doing the tests, the children used computers at
school and at home 3 4 times / week school readiness scores and learning than those who do not use.
Previously, some research suggests that computers help children more active, recognize letters and
numbers better. However, the relationship between the computer and language skills of children
remains controversial.
Effects The researchers also warned that children playing games is not good, and I rarely use
computer games, usually they like playing with toys or interact with friends.
Research results from 100,000 students in 31 countries around the world gave a surprising result that
the computer can cause children to become less intelligent and lazy.
Thomas Fuchs and Ludger Woessmann University of Munich general, the second author on the study.
Two experts have used the test of PISA system to measure the skills of 100,000 15 year old children in

Paraffin wax (or simply paraffin , but see alternative name for kerosene, above) is mostly found as a
white, odorless, tasteless, waxy solid, with a typical melting point between about 47 °C and 64 °C (
117°F to 147°F), and having a density of around 0.9 g/cm. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in ether,
benzene, and certain esters. Paraffin is unaffected by most common chemical reagents, but burns
readily. Pure paraffin wax is an excellent electrical insulator, with an electrical resistivity of between
10 and 10 ohm metre. This is better than nearly all other materials except some plastics (notably
teflon). It is an effective neutron moderator and was used in James Chadwick s 1932 experiments to
identify the neutron. Paraffin wax (C25H52) is an excellent material to store heat, having a specific
heat capacity of 2.14 2.9 J g−1 K−1 (joule per gram per kelvin) and a heat of fusion of 200 220 J g−1.
This property is exploited in modified drywall for home building material: it is infused in the drywall
during manufacture so that, when installed, it melts during the day, absorbing heat, and solidifies again
at night, releasing the heat. Paraffin wax phase change cooling coupled with retractable radiators was
used to cool the electronics of the Lunar Rover. Wax expands

To Kill A Mockingbird Point Of View Essay
Scout s unique point of view, which is an unbiased first person with two perspectives, is developed in
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee through the use of a flashback structure, plot development, and
the specific point of view. To start off, the frame story within the flashback structure helps shape the
story s point of view. In this specific frame story, an older Scout is positively looking back on her
childhood, with her younger self telling the experiences that led to her brother, Jem, breaking his arm.
At the beginning of the novel, she said, When enough years had gone by to enable us to look back on
them, we sometimes discussed the events leading to his accident (Lee 3). This quote specifically takes
the readers to a moment where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this had been told from older Scout s perspective, she would have known what she had done and
directly stated it, rather than indirectly describing what she saw. From older Scout s perspective at the
beginning of the novel, she spoke with her brother about their childhood much later in life and said,
Maycomb was an old town, but it was a tired old town when I first knew it (Lee 6). Scout, at her older
age, thought in depth about what Maycomb was like for her more than she did when she was younger,
specifically seen in the words tired and old . Not only that, but older Scout spoke in the past tense,
something younger Scout would generally not do since she focused on what was occurring around her
rather than contemplating what already happened. The diction used in both perspectives helps to make
the point of view more unique by showing the innocent differences between the two related yet
different perspectives. These specific examples help support the unique point of view in the book and
show how it is shaped through the structure, developed through the plot, and related through the
diction used in both

Physical Preparation For A Successful Marathon
The theory or idea of running 26 miles come from the story of pheidippides, a greek messenger who
ran 26 miles to inform greek forces of their victory in the city of marathon. A marathon is long
distance race, which is 26.2 miles long. Many people think that 26 miles is impossible to run, but with
the right training and eating habits its possible. One thing people should always keep in mind is that
mental preparation plays a big role in a successful marathon. Running marathons have great
advantages, it s good for weight loss, healthy, and fun to participate in. A person might want to run a
marathon to test their limits or just prove they can go the distance. perhaps a friend has talked them
into it or just simply want to lose weight. Whatever the reason might be it would require a lot of
training. Training is defined as making or becoming prepared for a test or skill. By following a
marathon training schedule, you will develop gradually through four training phases: endurance,
strength, speed, and tapering. Many marathon professionals suggest that people training for a
marathon should train for at least five months. Most marathon plans account for at least one cross
training workout each week during your five months of your training. Cross training may consist of
strength training, cycling, swimming or another form of exercise that targets your muscles in a way
different from running. Cross training helps you keep your training interesting and encourages more

Descriptive Essay On The Abandoned House
The Abandoned house stood there, with fog rising to the sky. Lights flickered being the only light in
the dark..... The fog dragged a cold breeze, that sent a chill up my spine, this house has been here
forever and nothing like this has ever happened before, I gulped and strolled into the cold night fog.
As I approached the house, the door slowly opens and a Shadow steps towards me. The weather just
dropped like 40 degrees, I don t like this at all.
I turned on my flashlight, it was the first thing that came to my mind. As, the bright light flashed its
way on, were the shadow I saw a couple seconds ago was gone, it must have gone back into the house
have to check this out. I decided to go into the Haunted Mansion , I walked in and every step I took,
the wooden floor made a loud CREAK!!! The lights are so dim, that you can t see anything far away
into the darkness, this was literally a maze. I walked until I noticed there was a staircase heading up to
this second floor. I took a couple steps towards the stairs then All of sudden, the most creepiest sound
in history of sounds filled my ears, it was the sound of tiny footsteps of children running around... I
took one step onto the stairs and it made a huge noise. Then the running noise stopped. I listen, my
heart stopped......
The Children I heard a couple minutes ago skipping around, were now sprinting down the stairs in my
direction then, the worst thing happened, they started slowing down they started saying....

More to hunting: than just a Sport
There is much more benefits to hunting beside a trophy that is mounted on a wall. Although hunting is
consider as a sport, it is imperative to proper conservation efforts throughout the United States and is
extremely important to control animal population which also has to do with transportation safety.
Also, hunting tremendously supports an animal s life, by minimizing disease. The benefits overpower
the negatives when it comes to ethical hunting; and for this important reason, the division of wildlife
closely analyzes and issues a calculated number of hunting licenses each year. Hunting has been a
form of collecting food and is an activity that is enjoyable and gives time to family to bond. However,
a major misconception by many is that hunting is an ethical and an unnecessary sport, due to the
trophy hunting and the entertainment that comes with hunting. The pain and suffering that an animal
could potentially endure when being hunted, has far less suffering than if it was to die of starvation or
a disease. An animal s death could be far more agonizing and for extended periods; which is major
reason on understanding both side of the spectrum.

There are many reasons why hunting can be cruel and unnecessary. However, it truly depends on the
ethics of hunting while they are hunting. Hunting is only cruel when someone is breaking hunting
laws that are put in place to ensure animals are not being hunted as trophies and poached illegally.
There is a valid point when arguing that hunting is not a sport due to its defenseless animal. This only

Becoming A Surgeon Research Paper
However good things often, if not always, come with a price (no pun intended). A surgeon s work
hours is almost never consistent; he/she may have to work only 2 hours one day but would need to
work a 48 hour shift the next day. Surgeons also hold an on call job; so when they are required, all
plans need to be cancelled for them to be at their job. These long hours mean there isn t much time to
spend with family. Surgeons tend to spend more time at work with their team than at home with their
family. Leisure time for surgeons can be considered non existent in many cases. The process of
becoming a surgeon is rigorous and stressful. It takes at least 12 years after Year 12 of studying and
training to earn the title of a fully qualified surgeon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Self evaluation:
This career investigation has revealed to me that becoming a surgeon isn t all rainbows and daisies; it
isn t what I watch on Grey s Anatomy. From what I ve gathered, surgeons enjoy most of their life
within a clinic or hospital saving and helping patients. Wording it this way makes the job seem
extremely boring. But I can t word it any other way; it is the truth. I have always been a people s
person and it has always been a passion of mine to be able to help someone out. Taking the lifeguard
course has fuelled my desire to give to the society. Wherever the location, I would try to help someone
the best I can. I believe surgeons have one intention: to help a patient as best they can.
Communication has never been an issue for me as I tend to listen intently and try to speak to someone
in the clearest way possible. Problem solving and learning has always been a strength and something I
have grown up enjoying. My life, like many others, has been through a lot of ups and downs. Family
issues and emergencies do have a certain effect on me but over the years, I ve learnt to deal with the
burden and the stress. These common traits demonstrates that I may have the capability of tackling the
job as a

Bama Faustina Essay
Bama Faustina is the most distinguished Dalit fiction writer in Tamil, and one of the most acclaimed
of all Dalit women writers. She was born in Madras in 1958. Her autobiographical novel Karukku was
the first Tamil Dalit text on the Christian Dalit community, through which she rose to fame. After the
success of Karukku, Bama wrote Sangati and Kusumbukkaran.
In India, there is a huge campus of religion situated in the society. There are four major caste divisions
in India, Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. The lowest caste people came under the Shudra s.
They are regarded as Dalits. These people are suppressed, humiliated, exploited, discriminated and

And when I examined the lives of our women, I understood the reason. From the moment they wake
up, they set to work both in their homes and in the fields. At home they are pestered by their husbands
and children, in the fileds there is back breaking work besides the harassment of the landlord. When
they come home in the evening, there is no time even to draw breath. And once they have collected
water and firewood, cooked a kanji and fed their hungry husband and children, even then they cant go
to bed in peace and sleep until dawn. Night after night they must give in to their husbands pleasure.
Even if a woman s body is wracked with pain, the husband is bothered only with his own satisfaction.
Women are overwhelmed and crushed by their own disgust, boredom and exhaustion, because of all
this. The stronger ones somehow manage to survive all this. The ones who don t have the mental
strength are totally oppressed; they succumb to mental ill health and act as if they are possessed by
peys.

Vincent could be in a moment of excitement and then in a moment of depression and sadness. There

Vincent gained enough courage, he avowed his love for her and also asked her to marry him. She

Las Meninas Essay
Las Meninas is a painting by Diego Velazquez created in 1656. Diego Velazquez is recognized as a
leading Spanish Golden Age artist and the global attention enjoyed by this painting may be attributed
to his status. It is the enigmatic and complex composition of the Las Meninas that raised a lot of
questions in regards to its illusion and reality and gave rise to a debate about the uncertain
relationships between the figures that were depicted in the painting and the viewer. Because of these
artistic complexities, the painting has stood out as one of the most analyzed works of art in Western
painting. Since its creation, Las Meninas has earned recognition as one of the most significant
paintings in Western art history. Its representation of painting theology has led to it being titled a
genuine art of philosophy. In recent times, the painting has been described as the supreme
achievement of Diego Velazquez, considering that it came out as a highly calculated, self conscious
demonstration of what art could achieve. Las Meninas is a fascinating painting that brings together

work, Velazquez manages to show the dignity of a painter as an artist. Velazquez not only

Two way radio transmitter receivers, which are called readers, send a signal to the tag and receive a
response. There are two types of tags; one is known as active and the other, passive. Active tags have
their own power source, and on board memory which sends its ID signal periodically. Passive tags are
not self powered, which gets and is activated only in the presence of RFID reader. Electromagnetic
fields are used in order to transmit data from the RFID chip.
RFID has been employed in various industries to keep tracking of their products. For example they
can be installed in an automobile industry to keep track on the production throughout assembly.
Similarly, RFID tags are now being used in the pharmaceuticals industry to keep track of medicinal
items in warehouses and throughout the supply chain. The supply chain can often be complex in
nature, with several data points as it relates to item movement from the original manufacturer to its
final destination, the customer.
There have been many proven situations where RFID has been a crucial player in this area. Supply
chain tracking would have to include all the processes involved from manufacturer to customer
(manufacturing, transportation and distribution) in order to be effective. The introduction of RFID in
supply chain management will not only replace barcodes but also ensure the right goods are available

The World Of Athletics Has Been Built Around A Binary View
The world of athletics has been built around a binary view of gender. The distinction between genders
is obvious: there is women s sport and there is men s sport. However, in reality, gender biology is not
black and white there is a multitude of ways to be human. The separation of men s and women s sport
leads to a large population of athletes getting stuck in the middle. There is a growing social acceptance
of transgender and intersex individuals in society, however, when it comes to sport these individuals
are often left isolated on an island of controversy. The majority of this controversy surrounds the
debate of whether or not transgender and intersex females should be allowed to compete in women s

It means we must be open to its permutation, in the name of nonviolence. (Butler) . This practice
would help support the reality of transgender and intersex people. We must, as a society, realize that
gender is not black and white, but rather it comes in a multitude of shades. If someone does not fit in
the traditional categories of gender it does not mean that they are inhumane they are humans who
deserve equal rights to those in the majority. In order for transgender athletes to be given an equal
opportunity to pursue their athletic goals we must first reconstruct our notions about gender to create a
society that accepts intersex and transgender individuals as equal counterparts. Transgender females
identify as women and should therefore be allowed to compete as women. Actively excluding
transgender and intersex women from competing in women s sport, the gender they identify with,
would be a step in the wrong direction for both intersex and transgender rights. The primary
opposition to the allowance of transgender and intersex females in women s sport, argues that these
individuals should be excluded because they are not real women. Sex segregation in sport exists
because it ensures fairness for women. If men and women were to compete against one another it is
undeniable that sport

Joseph Frank Keaton Iv Or As Everyone Had Called Him...
Joseph Frank Keaton IV or as everyone had called him Buster Keaton was an American actor, director,
producer, writer, comedian, and stunt performer. Buster Keaton was born on October 4, 1895 in Piqua,
Kansas. Here s a little fun fact on why everyone calls Joseph Frank Keaton IV, Buster Keaton. Legend
has it that when Keaton was eighteen months old he fell on a flight of stairs and there was a famous
magician that we all know and love that was there to see it and his name was Harry Houdini. After
Houdini saw Keaton fall, Houdini had said, That was a real buster! , and so that s how Keaton got his
name and that will stick to him for his whole life. So, Buster Keaton s parents Joe and Myra have been
part of the actor/performer industry for several years and just like his parents Buster would follow in
their footsteps. Buster began performing at the age of 3 and his first performance was a part of his
parent s act. While working with his parents throughout his childhood, Keaton would have some
bruises here and there but he took pride in that because he loved doing performances for the audience
and in which they found it funny, so you can say that he loved making people laugh. During these
performances Keaton, would learn to display the deadpan look that would later become a hallmark of
his comedy career. In 1917 Keaton decided to move to Hollywood because his father s drinking
problem would get in the way of the acts/performances they did. Once moving to Hollywood Keaton

Essay on Analyis of Knowledge of a Possibility by JUllary...
The value of literature as a source of knowledge is a timeless debate that varies depending on how
knowledge is defined. I will adopt Hillary Putnam s theory of Knowledge of a Possibility (Putnam
488) in Literature Science, and Reflection (1976), and focus on the value of literature as a source of
conceptual knowledge. The emergence of the novel brought with it conventions for a more realistic
writing style that aimed to appeal to the common readers. Variations of the degree of realism ranged
from writing that tried to present a fully authentic experience of life, known as Formal Realism, and
writing that offers some authentic aspects of life but also conserves characteristics of classic genres of
epics and romances. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The criterion for knowledge is rather complex and Putnam addresses literary knowledge in both the
empirical and conceptual elements (Putnam 488). On the one hand, there are the conceptual elements
of knowledge, those that can be considered knowledge of possibility (Putnam 488) that allow us to
think of new possibilities through conceptual discovery (Putnam 488). Conceptual knowledge allows
readers to get a sense of what something is like or provide insight to another person s beliefs. There
are not necessarily claims to truth in this form of knowledge, but in some instances the hypotheses we
obtain from literature may be tested confirmed through personal experience, and consequently may be
confirmed or falsified. On the other hand there is empirical knowledge, which is gained through
observations, scientific experimentation, and evidence. In this context, Putnam rejects the ability of
literature to provide readers with empirical knowledge. In his example about The Golden Notebook by
Doris Lessing, Putnam suggests that the book provides knowledge of what it was like to be a
communist in the 1940s (Putnam 489) but offers a disclaimer you may say to yourself this is what it
must have been like; but...you have no right to say I know what this is what it was like (Putnam 489).
Despite this distinction, Putnam still asserts the value of knowledge in literature Dorris

The English Bildungsroman Essay
The English Bildungsroman
The novel has a strong tradition in English literature. In Great Britain, it can trace its roots back to
Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe in 1719 (Kroll 23). Since then, the British novel has grown in
popularity. It was especially popular in Victorian England. The type of novel that was particularly
popular in Victorian England was the novel of youth. Many authors of the time were producing works
focused on the journey from childhood to adulthood: Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre, George Eliot
wrote The Mill on the Floss, and Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield and Great Expectations.
All of these novels trace the growth of a child. In this respect, some of the most popular novels of the
nineteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, the Bildungsroman is characterized by the growth, education, and development of a
character both in the world and ultimately within himself.
The Bildungsroman is subcategorized into very specific types of the genre, most often found in
German literature. There is the Entwicklungsroman, which can be defined as a chronicle of a young
man s general growth rather than his specific quest for self culture (Buckley 13). In other words, a
story recounting a man s life rather than focusing on the inner changes that contribute to his maturity.
Another form within German literature is the Erziehungsroman; this form is primarily concerned with
the protagonist s actual educational process (Buckley 13). Again, the concern is not the overall
development of the main character, but a specific aspect of that character s life. Finally, there is the
Kunstlerroman. The root Kunstler translates as artist in English. Therefore, this is the development of
the artist from childhood until his artistic maturity, focusing on the man as artist rather than the man in
general. Dickens David Copperfield and James Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are
both examples of English Kunstlerroman, as the protagonists of both books are writers (Buckley 13).
These categories, while strict within German literature, are more free within English literature. For the
most part, it is (within English literature) a

Lord Of The Flies Conflict Analysis
Lord of the Flies is a novel that involves a group of young British boys who are stranded on an island
after their plane is shot down during the events of World War 2. Written by William Golding to
express the true and undeniable savagery of the human race, Golding sheds light on the undeniable
truth concerning human nature and how, without the rules and regulations of society, civilization as a
whole would collapse upon itself.
In the novel, the group of boys are forced to face many problems during their time on the island,
resulting in multiple disputes between the boys. Conflict is evident all the way through the novel,
whether it is concerning man versus man (Jack and Ralph), man versus himself (Ralph s inner self
feuding over whether or not it s worthwhile to be saved) or man versus nature (tribe vs. the boar, tribe
vs. the beast, and tribe vs. storms). Golding is able to show the growing conflict through Jack, the
chief of the savage group, and Ralph, the chief of the civilized group. By relating these conflicts to the
characters, Golding is able to show the growing tension between civilization and savagery. However,
there are three key moments in the rising action that best portrays this point; when the fire is let to
burn out and a boat passes by the island, when Jack abandons Ralph s group to create his own, and
when the savage group steals Piggy s specs to make their own fire. If these events never occured, the
climax would not have been as provoking. The first

Similarities Between Hindu And Zoroastrianism
The historical difference starts when a group named Aryan separates into two where one moves to
India and the other moves to Iran. To date it is believed that Zoroastrianism came as a child religion of
Rigvedic which is a more ancient religion. It was practiced among some Aryans. This can then explain
some of the differences and similarities between Hindu and Zoroastrianism. The differences are as a
result of them wanting to make the child religion distinct from the mother religion. Zoroastrianism
was commonly practiced in Iran and ended up being the most ancient monotheistic religion with a
huge following. Those who went to India were met with different climatic conditions and hence had to
change their lifestyle. This would include their religious beliefs but they kept some of the Vedic
beliefs. For those in Iran most of the Vedic practices were lost and only few of them were left of which
were in the Zoroastrian religion. Zoroastrianism was a monotheistic and messianic which most
teachings revolved round prophet Zoroaster, this would lead to very few similarities between this
religion and Hinduism. Vedic tradition which was a common factor was slowly eliminated in the
Zoroastrian by use of the teachings and in the end severing any connections between the two. The
differences between the Vedic and the Zoroastrian religion are more of a coincidence and less of an
intent. The former Vedic religion that existed disappeared widely on the introduction

Why Some UK Companies are Reluctant to Invest in Training...
Explain why some UK companies are reluctant to invest in training and development. Do you
consider these reasons to be valid?
The rapid development of technology and in other areas have led companies ability to replicate
products more easily, and the rapidly expansion of the service sector has led the nature of consumers
to demand high quality at the lowest prices. Both of these highlight the importance of gaining the
competitive advantage through the labour force. A method through which a company could obtain this
edge, is through training and development of their various skills. Its implementation and management
concerns many concepts, esoteric and thus hard to emulate. Training and development can have many

Training was also seen to enhance job motivation under certain conditions: there was a practical use to
the training and this had been clearly depicted to them (Heyes, Stuart).
Alternatives to T D are to poach employees from other rivals, or acquire employees through the
expensive recruitment and selection process who has the requisite skills required premium must be
paid.
The former is a large barrier to the T D initiative as the benefits accrue to the company and the
employee. The rival can potentially poach your trained employees. This is known as the Prisoner s
Dilemma, due to which many companies in the UK do not invest in human resource development
(Sisson, Storey). The use of temporary or outsourced employees will not only be harder to train as
they may deemed unworthy of investment due to their movement ability, they may be not able to
provide the high quality service. Though companies outsourcing their call centres seem to be
providing them the necessary service. But these operators in India cannot replicate the highly
customer orientated service that British call centres can provide i.e. speaking to Yorkshire people in
their own dialects this would require training. Employees are going to become trained whether the
initiative is taken or not as with time they will gain tacit knowledge and they will pick things up by
sitting next to Nellie over time. This is very inefficient, and a focused

Nursing As A Second Career
Education Story
I decided to return to school, choosing nursing as a second career. It was intimidating and daunting.
Will school be too hard? Will I fit in? Am I too old? I was afraid that I would lack the skills to handle
a heavy load of school work along with full time employment. I felt overwhelmed not really knowing
all of the terminology used in the medical field, which was the biggest challenge I had to face. My
husband once told me that if I could handle a nursing assistant job, then maybe I could be a good
registered nurse. It was a long shot, but it gave me the firm idea of being a nurse. Working full time as
a nursing assistant, reading all the nursing books I saw, made me familiar with the terminology and led
me to know where

Theory on Control of Assets Essay
Part 1: Theory on control of assets
1) Internal controls are methods that a company puts in place to ensure the integrity of financial
reports and accounting information, and that they meet operational and profitability targets. They are
implemented to assure the safe guarding of assets as well as to detect fraud and any other errors. As
such, they provide the company with reasonable assurance that specific objectives will be achieved.
2) The overall purpose of internal controls is to help a department achieve their goals by establishing
protocols, preventing fraud and theft, separating duties, organizing information, reducing errors,
protecting assets, making sure people adhere to policies and to ensure accurate accounting records ...

An internal auditing process would consist of a series of questions being asked and compared to the
criteria needed, thereafter conclusions would be drawn up and a plan put in place.
Examples: ( The process of internal auditing )
➢ Condition: What is the particular problem identified?
➢ Criteria: What is the standard that was not met? The standard may be a company policy or other
benchmark.
➢ Cause: Why did the problem occur?
➢ Consequence: What is the risk/negative outcome (or opportunity foregone) because of the finding?
➢ Corrective action: What should management do about the finding? What have they agreed to do
and by when?
➢ Every month a small portion of money disappears and no one knows where and how this happens.
An internal auditor will follow a set process similar to the above one and put in place a strategy or a
new system in order to minimize the risks and to stop the problem
4) a) Preventive controls:
Stopping things from happening. They are designed to keep errors or irregularities from occurring in
the first place.
*E.g. Segregation of duties, safes, burglar bars or metal detectors.
Examples:
Installing metal detectors will allow you to monitor movement of stock. You will know every time
stock leaves the store when it hasn t been paid for and this will monitor and prevent theft.
Storing valuables in safes or enclosed secure areas also prevents theft.
Assign an individual to receive cash but then a different

Proposition HHH is the Homelessness Reduction and Prevention, Housing, and Facilities Bond ( City

bond that will create funding towards permanent supportive housing, conventional affordable housing
without services, shelters and other measures like portable showers and storage facilities ( City
Proposes $1.2 billion Bond to House the Homeless , n.d.). The main goal of this proposition is to
reduce homelessness in the City of Los Angeles, by building 10,000 housing units over the next ten
years (The Times Editorial Board, 2016). Furthermore, this measure needs two thirds votes to pass in
the November 2016 election.
This measure will finance the construction of supportive and affordable housing for homeless people
in the City of Los Angeles. Permanent supportive housing is a type of housing that has supportive on

Flashbacks In This Is Where It Ends By Marieke Nijkamp
Everyone experiences flashbacks that help make different decisions everyday because people aware of
the different reactions that have occurred. Flashbacks are critical in life and within books because they
help people come to a clear understanding on what is happening and how the story will be wrapped up
altogether. Throughout the novel, This is Where it Ends, by Marieke Nijkamp, flashbacks have
occurred in the perspective of different characters. These contrasting flashbacks have created a clear
understanding as to why certain things arose. The many flashbacks throughout the book, such as
Autumn s flashback reflecting on Tyler s personal change, Claire s flashback referencing
foreshadowing, and Sylvia s perspective displaying conflict and Tyler s true personality, demonstrate a
clear understanding as to how and why certain events took place.
Amid the many flashbacks in the Book, Autumn s flashback with Tyler was highlighted because it
demonstrates the concept of change and is shown through character types. During the flashback,
Autumn depicted how she felt safe when Tyler invited her to see dancers and spend the anniversary of
their mother s death together. Referencing This is Where it Ends, the author illustrates, Tyler s three
words loosened the noose of fear around my heart... I felt safe. It was perfect (108). She exclaimed
how she felt safe and how in the end, the night was all perfect. However, shown through the literary
technique character change, this flashback

Figley s Model Of The Compassion Fatigue Process
Lipchick (2002), describes the therapist client relationship as a structure coupling between to unique
human beings in complementary roles. In a healthcare context, Sabo (2006) states that empathy and
compassion are critical aspects involved in understanding the clients needs to create a therapeutic
relationship between client and nurse. The integration of the concepts of compassion and empathy
could become a negative facilitator of the cost of caring for others later described as Compassion
Fatigue (CF) (Figley, 1995). The definition is contested, though; the first definition was proposed by
Joinson (1992) characterising CF as a unique form of burnout that nurses experience because of
exhaustion. Coetzee and Klopper (2010) explain that CF is a concept established in relation to the
burnout of nurses . Their duty to tend to sick and traumatised patients exposes them to pain and
suffering daily, and thus many lose their ability to nurture. Supported by Pack and Roberts (2012), CF
occurs when individuals are unable to continue bearing the trauma of others, consequently leading to a
significant reduction in wellbeing and work capacity. Whilst CF has regularly been observed in a
healthcare environment, no such research has been conducted in a sport and exercise context.
Figley s (2002) model of the Compassion Fatigue Process enables a further understanding of the
factors contributing to CF and some key terms surrounding it. The model is based on assumptions that

Comparison 60 Minutes Analysis
This stark contrast of Thomasson s interview on 60 Minutes is apparent when you compare both of
them. Two individuals had such different outlooks on the same idea and also voiced it on the same
media channel. What made this interaction so critical was the mystery and vagueness surrounding this
hot button issue. It allowed for a stage of colliding ideas that aren t always valid but it allowed for
competing views to obtain exposure. Since being seen is not the same thing as being known which can
create gaps or voids within their image.
LGBTQ activists created a way to counteract the negative media circling them during this time period
from conservative group. They created Logo, a U.S. network that launched in 2005 which was
broadcasted on MTV. This was an explicitly lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender channel, has been
implementing a rebranding strategy that it labels gaystreaming . Logo s rebranding, gaystreaming is
strikingly devoid of negative connotations to promote a greater positive image of LGBTQ individuals
in America. It currently encapsulates a range of related, but distinct meanings to do with going beyond
what gay content traditionally connotes in terms of people or characters, storylines, and entire genres
of entertainment. (Logo) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

If this had been told from older Scout s perspective, she would have known what she had done and directly stated it, rather than indirectly describing what she saw. From older Scout s perspective at the beginning of the novel, she spoke with her brother about their childhood much later in life and said, Maycomb was an old town, but it was a tired old town when I first knew it (Lee 6). Scout, at her older age, thought in depth about what Maycomb was like for her more than she did when she was younger, specifically seen in the words tired and old . Not only that, but older Scout spoke in the past tense, something younger Scout would generally not do since she focused on what was occurring around her rather than contemplating what already happened. The diction used in both perspectives helps to make the point of view more unique by showing the innocent differences between the two related yet different perspectives. These specific examples help support the unique point of view in the book and show how it is shaped through the structure, developed through the plot, and related through the diction used in both ... • 10. Hunting Persuasive Essay Vasquez 1 Vanessa Vasquez Professor Katie English 122 01 March, 2017 More to hunting: than just a Sport There is much more benefits to hunting beside a trophy that is mounted on a wall. Although hunting is consider as a sport, it is imperative to proper conservation efforts throughout the United States and is extremely important to control animal population which also has to do with transportation safety. Also, hunting tremendously supports an animal s life, by minimizing disease. The benefits overpower the negatives when it comes to ethical hunting; and for this important reason, the division of wildlife closely analyzes and issues a calculated number of hunting licenses each year. Hunting has been a form of collecting food and is an activity that is enjoyable and gives time to family to bond. However, a major misconception by many is that hunting is an ethical and an unnecessary sport, due to the trophy hunting and the entertainment that comes with hunting. The pain and suffering that an animal could potentially endure when being hunted, has far less suffering than if it was to die of starvation or a disease. An animal s death could be far more agonizing and for extended periods; which is major reason on understanding both side of the spectrum. A surgeon s work hours is almost never consistent; he/she may have to work only 2 hours one day but would need to work a 48 hour shift the next day. Surgeons also hold an on call job; so when they are required, all plans need to be cancelled for them to be at their job. These long hours mean there isn t much time to spend with family. Surgeons tend to spend more time at work with their team than at home with their family. Leisure time for surgeons can be considered non existent in many cases. From what I ve gathered, surgeons enjoy most of their life within a clinic or hospital saving and helping patients. Wording it this way makes the job seem extremely boring. But I can t word it any other way; it is the truth. I have always been a people s person and it has always been a passion of mine to be able to help someone out. Taking the lifeguard course has fuelled my desire to give to the society. Wherever the location, I would try to help someone the best I can. I believe surgeons have one intention: to help a patient as best they can. Communication has never been an issue for me as I tend to listen intently and try to speak to someone in the clearest way possible. Problem solving and learning has always been a strength and something I have grown up enjoying. My life, like many others, has been through a lot of ups and downs. It is the enigmatic and complex composition of the Las Meninas that raised a lot of questions in regards to its illusion and reality and gave rise to a debate about the uncertain relationships between the figures that were depicted in the painting and the viewer. Because of these artistic complexities, the painting has stood out as one of the most analyzed works of art in Western painting. The separation of men s and women s sport leads to a large population of athletes getting stuck in the middle. If someone does not fit in the traditional categories of gender it does not mean that they are inhumane they are humans who deserve equal rights to those in the majority. In order for transgender athletes to be given an equal opportunity to pursue their athletic goals we must first reconstruct our notions about gender to create a society that accepts intersex and transgender individuals as equal counterparts. • 21. Essay on Analyis of Knowledge of a Possibility by JUllary... The value of literature as a source of knowledge is a timeless debate that varies depending on how knowledge is defined. I will adopt Hillary Putnam s theory of Knowledge of a Possibility (Putnam 488) in Literature Science, and Reflection (1976), and focus on the value of literature as a source of conceptual knowledge. The emergence of the novel brought with it conventions for a more realistic writing style that aimed to appeal to the common readers. Variations of the degree of realism ranged from writing that tried to present a fully authentic experience of life, known as Formal Realism, and writing that offers some authentic aspects of life but also conserves characteristics of classic genres of epics and romances. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The criterion for knowledge is rather complex and Putnam addresses literary knowledge in both the empirical and conceptual elements (Putnam 488). On the one hand, there are the conceptual elements of knowledge, those that can be considered knowledge of possibility (Putnam 488) that allow us to think of new possibilities through conceptual discovery (Putnam 488). Conceptual knowledge allows readers to get a sense of what something is like or provide insight to another person s beliefs. There are not necessarily claims to truth in this form of knowledge, but in some instances the hypotheses we obtain from literature may be tested confirmed through personal experience, and consequently may be confirmed or falsified. On the other hand there is empirical knowledge, which is gained through observations, scientific experimentation, and evidence. In this context, Putnam rejects the ability of literature to provide readers with empirical knowledge. In his example about The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, Putnam suggests that the book provides knowledge of what it was like to be a communist in the 1940s (Putnam 489) but offers a disclaimer you may say to yourself this is what it must have been like; but...you have no right to say I know what this is what it was like (Putnam 489). In Great Britain, it can trace its roots back to Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe in 1719 (Kroll 23). Since then, the British novel has grown in popularity. It was especially popular in Victorian England. The type of novel that was particularly popular in Victorian England was the novel of youth. Many authors of the time were producing works focused on the journey from childhood to adulthood: Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre, George Eliot wrote The Mill on the Floss, and Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield and Great Expectations. Similarly, the Bildungsroman is characterized by the growth, education, and development of a character both in the world and ultimately within himself. The Bildungsroman is subcategorized into very specific types of the genre, most often found in German literature. There is the Entwicklungsroman, which can be defined as a chronicle of a young man s general growth rather than his specific quest for self culture (Buckley 13). In other words, a story recounting a man s life rather than focusing on the inner changes that contribute to his maturity. Another form within German literature is the Erziehungsroman; this form is primarily concerned with the protagonist s actual educational process (Buckley 13). Again, the concern is not the overall development of the main character, but a specific aspect of that character s life. Finally, there is the Kunstlerroman. The root Kunstler translates as artist in English. Therefore, this is the development of the artist from childhood until his artistic maturity, focusing on the man as artist rather than the man in general. Dickens David Copperfield and James Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are both examples of English Kunstlerroman, as the protagonists of both books are writers (Buckley 13). Lord Of The Flies Conflict Analysis Lord of the Flies is a novel that involves a group of young British boys who are stranded on an island after their plane is shot down during the events of World War 2. Written by William Golding to express the true and undeniable savagery of the human race, Golding sheds light on the undeniable truth concerning human nature and how, without the rules and regulations of society, civilization as a whole would collapse upon itself. In the novel, the group of boys are forced to face many problems during their time on the island, resulting in multiple disputes between the boys. Conflict is evident all the way through the novel, whether it is concerning man versus man (Jack and Ralph), man versus himself (Ralph s inner self feuding over whether or not it s worthwhile to be saved) or man versus nature (tribe vs. the boar, tribe vs. the beast, and tribe vs. storms). Golding is able to show the growing conflict through Jack, the chief of the savage group, and Ralph, the chief of the civilized group. By relating these conflicts to the characters, Golding is able to show the growing tension between civilization and savagery. However, there are three key moments in the rising action that best portrays this point; when the fire is let to burn out and a boat passes by the island, when Jack abandons Ralph s group to create his own, and when the savage group steals Piggy s specs to make their own fire. • 24. Similarities Between Hindu And Zoroastrianism The historical difference starts when a group named Aryan separates into two where one moves to India and the other moves to Iran. To date it is believed that Zoroastrianism came as a child religion of Rigvedic which is a more ancient religion. It was practiced among some Aryans. This can then explain some of the differences and similarities between Hindu and Zoroastrianism. The differences are as a result of them wanting to make the child religion distinct from the mother religion. Zoroastrianism was commonly practiced in Iran and ended up being the most ancient monotheistic religion with a huge following. Those who went to India were met with different climatic conditions and hence had to change their lifestyle. This would include their religious beliefs but they kept some of the Vedic beliefs. For those in Iran most of the Vedic practices were lost and only few of them were left of which were in the Zoroastrian religion. Zoroastrianism was a monotheistic and messianic which most teachings revolved round prophet Zoroaster, this would lead to very few similarities between this religion and Hinduism. Vedic tradition which was a common factor was slowly eliminated in the Zoroastrian by use of the teachings and in the end severing any connections between the two. The differences between the Vedic and the Zoroastrian religion are more of a coincidence and less of an intent. The former Vedic religion that existed disappeared widely on the introduction ... In a healthcare context, Sabo (2006) states that empathy and compassion are critical aspects involved in understanding the clients needs to create a therapeutic relationship between client and nurse. The integration of the concepts of compassion and empathy could become a negative facilitator of the cost of caring for others later described as Compassion Fatigue (CF) (Figley, 1995). The definition is contested, though; the first definition was proposed by Joinson (1992) characterising CF as a unique form of burnout that nurses experience because of exhaustion. Coetzee and Klopper (2010) explain that CF is a concept established in relation to the burnout of nurses . Their duty to tend to sick and traumatised patients exposes them to pain and suffering daily, and thus many lose their ability to nurture.
