A Brief Look At The Historical View Of Conditional Election
A brief look at the historical view of conditional election that is briefly stated with Scriptures that is
used today. Giving evidence, that conditional is better than unconditional as in the Five Points of
Calvinism. Though the Bible obviously demonstrates that God selects individuals to redemption, there
are two differences as to the foundation of election. Conditional election is the idea that God choose
individuals for redemption centered on His omniscience of who want to place their belief in Jesus. The
free will of man plays into the scope of eternity. Historical View
Origen was one of the original to believe that predestination and will of man plays an important role in
the doctrine of election. The Scripture he uses is 2 Timothy 2:20 21 to where men can be saved. John
Chrysostom endorsed the thought on how salvation is performed. Semi Pelagians also opposed
unconditional because of human freedom and preaching would be pointless. The Catholics believe the
part of free choice and being in the grace of God. James Arminius disagreed with Calvinist on a few
issues like atonement and will of man. He formulated major proclamations of the process of salvation.
James articles were dismissed at Synod of Dort for being against the Scriptures and where the articles
from Calvin were accepted for the churches to teach. John Wesley was strongly against unconditional
and Calvinism that he gave reasons why the theory

International Development Organization That Are Working...
Quantitative Research Study
Wheatonia Malekebu
Walden University
DDBA 8427
Background
There are several international development organization that are working in developing nations,
especially in sub Sahara Africa. According to National Statistics Office (2008) out of 13 million
people, 86% live in rural areas and 14% are in urban areas. 65% of the rural population is recorded to
be poor. It is also documented that the family sizes in the rural areas are larger as compared to those in
the urban areas which demonstrate that an any ideal situation, we expect high food consumption in the
rural areas as compared to the urban areas.
One of the greatest tragedies of extreme poverty is its intergenerational transmission. ... Show more

The key research question is: Are international development organizations sustainable? This general
problem will be examined through a series of specific sub problems:
1. What are the costs associated with implementing their work?
2. What has been accomplished so far?
3. What has been learned from existing work?
4. Should they embark on scaling up their work?
5. Are they meeting the expectation on their mission?
Research Objective
The objective of this study is to obtain additional information in the following areas:
Interventions o To understand international development organization s operations and interventions,
emphasizing on the ground activities
Outcomes o To identify likely key outcomes and any unexpected or unintended consequences
Mechanisms o To cross check and validate the main mechanisms for impact the communities they
work in
Results will be used to examine a new strategic direction for international development organizations
as it pertains to scaling up. It will also serve as an assessment of where programs are currently.
The state of rural poverty
Over the years international food prices have been increasing at a rapid rate and though the effects can
be seen globally, it of course has affected the low income population the hardest. In total, millions of
the world s population transitioning into the worlds hungry (Human Development

Gender As A Product Of Socialisation
Australian sociologist, Connell, has provided theories in order to aid in understanding the way in
which gender is manifested and shapes the experience of illness. Her Gender, Health and Theory
publication ultimately views gender as a product of socialisation (Connell, 2012). According to
Connell, Gender is seen as the active social process that brings reproductive bodies into history,
generating health consequences not as a side effect but in the making of gender itself (Connell, 2012,
p.1675). Her work ultimately emphasises that gender differences are formed by the expectations of
society, confining the ways in which males and females should act (Connell, 2012). Connell s
Masculinities theory furthers this concept. She defines masculinity as a set of perceived notions and
principles about the way in which men should or are expected to act (Connell, 1995). She highlights
that society dictates ways of being masculine and unmasculine, with unmasculine typically insinuating
femininity (Connell, 1995). She also argues that the terms masculine and feminine point beyond
categorical sex difference to the ways men differ among themselves, and women differ among
themselves, in matters of gender (Connell, 1995, p.69). Masculinities are often favored over
femininities, as men in general are paid better, enjoy more social freedom and hold other benefits that
women do not due to their gender (Connell, 1995). Therefore, women as a group typically lack the
societal power that

Earnest Elmo Calkins The Business Of Advertising
The look of the standard advertisement changed in the 1900s with the addition of four color front and
back covers and up to two color interiors. Magazines were exploding with color thanks to agencies
like Calkins Holden, founded by Earnest Elmo Calkins as the first agency to provide copy, design,
space brokerage, and media planning, (Sivulka 108). An online summary of The Business of
Advertising written by Earnest Calkins himself states, Notably, he devised a theory of consumer

Persuasive Speech On Driving With Dogs
Driving With Dogs: How To Enjoy Your Time On The Road
Taking some time off from work is an exhilarating feeling since it allows you to have more time to
attend to other things and it can also be a great way for you to relax. But to make it really special is by
taking some short trips either to the beach, lake or to camp. Having a vacation can be more enjoyable
if you go out with your family and friends.
Most pet owners almost always do not leave their pets at home when they are taking a vacation.
Instead of leaving them at dog care centers, taking along these furry creatures would mean fun for
both pet and pet owner.
Taking trips with a dog may create some form of excitement or apprehension on dogs. Some dogs are

Make frequent stops so that you can allow your dog to do his bathroom breaks. The last thing you
would want to have is having a smelly car because of your dog pooping or urinating inside the car.
4. Check the temperature and ensure that the car is properly ventilated especially when traveling
during the summer season.
Potential Dangers When Driving With Dogs
According to a survey conducted by the American Automobile Association, 56% of the respondents
said that they have driven with their pet dogs at least once a month. 52% admitted that they have
shifted their attention to their dogs while driving. With these results, you can just imagine how many
would have succumbed to accidents because of being distracted while driving.
It is extremely dangerous to have your thoughts divided between paying attention to the traffic and
ensuring that your dog stays in place. The best way to maintain focus and keep your mind off the
possibilities that your dog might just jump from one place to another inside the car is by keeping him
buckled up. Having a pet restraint system will not only limit distractions but can also be a means to
protect you from, your furry buddy, other passengers should an accident

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hand Irons
Hand Iron
Hand irons are appropriate method of fusing where the interlinings could be fused at comparatively at
low temperatures and pressures and in relatively short time period. But only small components can be
fused in this system (Fairhurst 2008; Cooklin 2006).
8.1.4.3 Steam Press
Regular steam pressing machines are not chosen for fusing even though some fusibles are produced
for use on these machines. The main limitations of pressing machines concerning fusing are:
Inability to reach the heat levels required by majority of resins
Shape and size of bucks limit size of components that can be fused
Most utility machines are not fitted with programme controls, which means entire process is operator
controlled
If the resin is activated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

8.2.6 Types of pressing equipment
Solid surface pressing equipment uses a firm surface to apply pressure while steam and heat mould the
fabric, garment or garment parts. Pressure may be applied through rolling action, gliding action or
compression (Holme 1999).
8.2.6.1 Hand Irons
For more than hundreds of years hand irons were heated on coal stoves. These methods were steadily
replaced by gas heating. Steam was created by lightly wetting the area to be pressed or by pressing
through a dampened piece of linen. The most frequent but least productive ironing and pressing
equipment is the hand iron, which is suitable for performing a large number of operations in
processing with heat and moisture (Holme 1999).
More sophisticated and more productive but less prevalent are ironing presses, which allows a
considerable degree of mechanization and automation of processing with heat and moisture. Fabrics
are steamed to eliminate lustrous appearance which develops when ironing and pressing equipment is
used. The two basic types of irons used today

Initial FEAF Missions
Initial FEAF missions were the transportation of Army and Marine units and equipment from Japan to
South Korea, the evacuation of American civilian nationals, and obtaining significant intelligence
through aerial reconnaissance of North Korean troop movements south. Fighter bomber ground attack
missions by Japan based F 80Cs significantly slowed the North Korean Army s advance during July
1950. On 13 July, the FEAF Bomber Command took over command of the 19th Bombardment Group
and of the 22nd and 92nd Bombardment Groups which had been transferred from Strategic Air
Command (SAC) bases in the United States to Japan. These B 29 Superfortress units were used in
tactical attacks which were not very successful.[10]

The 31st Strategic Reconnaissance Group completed the team. The 92nd and 98th BGs and the 31st
SRG operated from bases in Japan, whereas the 19th, 22nd, and 307th BGs were based in Okinawa.
Five major industrial centers in North Korea were earmarked for attack. This sort of mission is what
the B 29 had been designed for, and by early September, all known industrial facilities in North Korea
had been destroyed except for some oil storage facilities at Rashin, which was considered too close to
the Soviet border to risk an attack. By late September, all 18 strategic targets in North Korea had been
destroyed, and the B 29 Force now turned to secondary targets.[10]
Along with the SAC B 29 units, Tactical Air Command (TAC) deployed numerous fighter, fighter
bomber, tactical bomber, transport and support units to FEAF. TAC Lockheed F 80C Shooting Star
and Republic F 84E Thunderjets units deployed to FEAF to rapidly gain control of the air from the
Korean People s Armed Forces Air Corps (KPAFAC). For a time in August and September 1950, all
FEAF flying units had to fly from bases in Japan. The only continuously usable tactical base in Korea
was Taegu (K 2), which the FEAF used as a staging field to refuel and arm tactical

The Moral Problem Of A Moral Theory
Some people think that one aim of a moral theory is to give one a decision procedure to use when
faced with moral problems. Decision procedures are defined as procedures that are similar to an
algorithm for determining a finite number of specific steps that validate a particular proposition or
argument. Well known examples of a decision procedure is the popular Venn diagrams for aid in
determining an interpretation of categorical knowledge and truth tables which are used in calculus
problems. But what makes this procedure different from these examples is that we are talking about
moral problems. Moral problems or moral issues are concerns that are shown to be any issue with the
possibility to help and or harm anyone which could include ourselves. When making any decision, the
consequences of that decision we make could reflect on our own morality. This means that this reflects
our character, judgment, and our thoughts, but what is clearly defined when we make a decision is
where we place ourselves to be. We classify ourselves and associate our decision making based on
what we identify ourselves as. Aristotle s virtue ethics, Mill s utilitarianism, and Kant s deontological
theory are examples of possible classifications that one may associate and identify themselves as.
Each of these theories present a particular procedure to abide by when making a decision. The purpose
of this paper is to define each of these theories, explain what procedure each theory gives us, how we

The purpose of this endeavor was to examine the current status of the accounting profession, envision
a more favorable future situation, and then determine the necessary strategy to follow in attaining this.
The consensus of the committee was that the expectations from audits were too high. They went on to
elaborate on the lack of precision and exactness of financial statements and that the public was
demanding a degree of certainty in their audits that could not be achieved. This has historically been
labeled the expectations gap
They concluded that although auditors were not totally responsible for the scandals in 2000 and
beyond, all too many independent auditors lost their autonomy and judgment and ended by blurring
the line between right and wrong. They described the audit as becoming a commodity with little
intrinsic value, used to facilitate management s objective of releasing misleading financial statements.
, and concluded that accounting self regulation had failed in these instances.
They also expressed concern about auditing practices of the Big Four. They said that firms such as
these fail to effectively use their resources since experienced auditors often are not on the job site
where they are most needed to detect

New World Order Research Paper
The new world order but is it new? The continuing war on the enlightenment. First let s lay down
some ground work through history. Anyone who studies the American revolution realizes that the
founding fathers had the enlightenment on their minds when they wrote the constitution. As we have
written in the past, America was founded at a unique time in history by unique circumstances and
people. In order to realize the ongoing war on the enlightenment, you have to understand the time line.
Most scholors agree that the Enlightenment was a result of the Thirty Years War. This horrible war,
lasted from 1618 to 1648. It compelled German writers (such as Hugo Grotius and John Comenius) to
pen harsh criticisms regarding the ideas of nationalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term New World order has been hijacked. The new world order is the form of government our
founding fathers gave to us in the constitution . The politicians dream of a world where the U.N
controls everything and we all use a centrally controlled currency is nothing but old ideas rehashed
that ultimately deprive men of their liberties. The old world order. No countries, no borders, just one
world where everyone sings Kumbaya and there are no wars or hungry people. Sounds good, but it
does not take in consideration that there may be a considerable number of people that do not want to
take part in somebody else s Utopian dream. That is where things become dangerous. Every time there
is central authority it must be able to force people to do it s will. Something the socialist professors
conveniently leave out when espousing the virtues of central authority (socialism). America became a
country that gave rights to people that no other country had done. The problem is that a self governing
society has to have a moral compass in order to function. Churches and community kept America
together until the past 30 years or so. As government encroaches on the family and community, and as
personal responsibility fades, central authority has to enforce and create laws to keep the population in
check. In order for us to regain ground in the war on enlightenment, we have to stop looking to
government for answers and start fixing things in our local communities. The world is too big for
central control, we have no other choice, even with all the technology, it will not

Essay on This Land Is Your Land Analysis
This Land Is Your Land
By: Woody Guthrie
There are many fold songs that go unheard. But when you go back to the roots of folk music, there is
one that most every American recognizes. This Land Is Your Land has been a staple of Americana for
nearly 75 years. The lyrics start off by giving a visual image of the vastness of America. It mentions
California and the New York Island which focuses on the widest breadth of the country. Then it
mentions the Redwood Forest (Which is also in California), and the Gulf Stream waters which are two
easily recognizable features that are unique to America. While reminding the listener in the first line
that this land is both theirs and his, and in the last line of the chorus that the land was not ... Show

The other side of that sign was made for everyone, he says. So he is saying that the other side of that
sign is equally everyones and nobody has a right to keep certain people out. He goes on to say in the
next verse that nobody that is living can ever stop him as he is walking down the freedom highway.
Nobody living can ever make him turn back, because this land was made for everyone. He is just
saying that he will not give up just because it is hard. When the land was MADE for everyone, he is
not going to stop until he has reached it. The last verse that is kept out of the song is without a doubt
the very best one. It says that he has seen his people in the squares of the city and in the shadow of a
steeple, beside the relief office they are standing hungry. This brought to mind the question to Woody,
after everything that he had seen, was this land really made for everyone? After seeing all this
beautiful country, he thought that there was no reason that anyone couldn t be where they wanted to be
and do what they wanted to do. It seemed to him that the land was made for everyone. But then he
realizes, that in the most popular and booming sections of the city, there are people lining up that the
relief office to get help because they can t make a living on their own anymore. They are in the
shadow of a church steeple meaning that it doesn t matter your religion that

Hemodialysis In Nursing
Transitioning Into Dialysis
Krista M Walter
Western Governors University
End stage renal disease causes a total life change for someone. Hemodialysis is a type of care people
can choose when their kidneys fail. Kidney failure patients have to start limiting their fluids, start a
new renal diet, and attend dialysis usually three days a week for an average of four hours each visit. A
person with kidney failure whole lifestyle changes. This is an emotional and lifestyle transition for
anyone starting on dialysis. This article is research on how people transition into this new life of being

The researchers put the data received in the interviews into a conceptual map. In the concept map,
they had two categories, the first one that helps a person move into a healthy transition is the
facilitator factors in transition to dialysis, which include personal factors and social factors. The
second category leads to an unhealthy transition and these are the inhibitor factors. The factors would
include personal factors, social factors, and economic problems that arise. Another part of the
conceptual map shows a turning circle that is a constant battle that people must fight to keep moving
towards a healthy transition into dialysis. Another way the researchers analyzed the data from this
study, was by reporting what the people said about their transition into dialysis. For many of these
people, it was a terrible experience. People also shared how hard this life change was on them and
their families. While others shared how they got through the transition positively, and how other
dialysis patients can do the same. In the interviews, they discussed physical changes, mental changes,
and social changes that all took place during this transition into dialysis. In conclusion, the authors see
that now they have more ways to help someone new coming into hemodialysis after chronic kidney
failure starts. This article and interviews have shared the struggles of people on

The Importance Of Parental Involvement In Education
Parental Involvement in regards to education is huge. Parents are the people advocating for the
children. It is important for teachers to have a good relationship with parents in order to make the best
decisions for the child. Teachers and parents can come together to make these decisions. In regards to
special education, the parental involvement MUST be there. Parents need to make sure their child is in
the right seating, receive all their services and receiving the assistive technology device that is right
for their child. Parents know their child more than anyone on this earth. Teachers do know students
pretty well but they don t see what the child is like at home or sometimes get to see the student s true
personality. Teachers can effectively choose assistive technology for students but, what works for one
student may not work for all. This is where the parental involvement needs to kick in. For example: a
student may suffer from speech difficulties and can communicate a little with sign language. The
teacher can say switch to a communication board with the parent might say my child doesn t make
decisions well and therefore communication boards might not be effective . The parent truly knows
their child and can assist the teacher will deciding what assistive technology device the child needs. In
the article it discusses the importance of parental involvement with assistive technology. The biggest

The Themes Of Courage In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak
Themes are inserted within literature by the author in an attempt to provoke readers to think about the
topic provided. In the novel, The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak, many topics are presents,
such as, courage, suffering, and human behavior. The most prevalent, however, is the courage
possessed by certain individuals. This theme, bravery, is evident throughout the entire course of the
novel in Liesel Meminger, the Hubermanns, and Max Vandenburg. Liesel Meminger, coined The
Book Thief , exhibits extraordinary acts of courage within the literary work. Since birth, Meminger
has faced hardships; she deals with the absence of her father, the death of her younger brother, and the
abandonment by her mother all within several years. These adversities lead to the development of
Meminger s courageous nature, which she displays throughout the novel. Acts of her courage include
stealing books and trusting the Hubermanns After attending her brother s funeral, Liesel notices that
one of the gravediggers has dropped a novel. Looking around to make sure no one is watching her, she
collects the book and hides it; stealing this book ignites the fire and desire inside of her to learn how to
read and expand her knowledge. After Liesel Meminger arrives to the Hubermanns house in
Molching, Germany, she has to be coaxed out of the car. Finally, Hans Hubermann, later known as
Papa, is the successor in luring the child out of the car, he immediately gains her trust, unlike his cold
counterpart, Rosa Hubermann. Despite Rosa s foul mouth and direct orders, Saumensch. You call me
Mama when you talk to me (Zusak 35), Liesel eventually learns to trust and love her. Learning to love
and to trust the Hubermanns shows how courageous Liesel truly is since she had previously faced the
abandonment/death of two parents. Hans and Rosa Hubermann are driven by bravery throughout the
entire course of The Book Thief and are perhaps the most courageous characters within the novel.
Hans Hubermann defies the Furher (the leader Hitler) by not joining the Nazi Party, despite the
amount of pride that is supposed to be associated with it. Hubermann is looked down upon by much of
society due to this decision, even his own son, Hans

Kirksville Library Volunteers Case
Introduction to Organization and Environment In regards to the Kirksville Library Volunteers Case,
this is a medium sized public library located in a large, southern city. Non profit. Funding. In order for
the library to function beyond the limits of its normal paid staff, the library relies on a large volunteer
reserve of 75 volunteers.
This library functions like many other libraries in its input, throughput, and output. It is most likely a
non profit organization that is funded by sources such as taxes, grants, and private benefactors. The
library also likely runs on a quarterly budget if not a yearly budget and it does not often have to
change how things are done. Because of this, the library by definition falls into a placid environment.

Volunteers would be guaranteed projects and tasks to do during their shift. In this situation there
would only be one employee managing the 75 volunteers, again this may be too much for one person.
Managing a lot of individuals can cause frustration for the selected employee who is managing the
volunteers, thus disturbing morale in the workplace.
The most practical solution for this management case would be to choose three to four serious, eligible
and qualified volunteers to become Volunteer Coordinators. Each Volunteer Coordinator would be
assigned to one section of the library e.g. circulation, technical services, or outreach and so on. They
would be liaising with staff from the designated section, creating a list of projects and tasks that could
be fulfilled by the volunteer. Previous communication issues would more than likely be solved
between staff and volunteer coordinators.
The Volunteer Coordinators would then select which category of the library volunteers would work,
dividing them up evenly as possible. A trusting relationship will begin to form after the volunteer
works in their designated section. One disadvantage of this arrangement could be that

Reflective Essay On Water Bottles
If any given person were to walk into my dorm room they most likely wouldn t be too impressed with
it. The one item that would stand out the most is water bottles. I have close to a case of empty water
bottles just sitting around my desk, my nightstand, and piled up in the recycling bin. I refill each water
bottle about 2 to 3 times after drinking one but now I m all out and refuse to buy another case of water
bottles. I never realized how harmful they are too the environment until this class. Never had I realized
how much unnecessary waste I contribute into our environment and it s time for me to start finding
positive alternatives. I have been using water bottles for as long as I can remember. In high school I
would take about two or three water bottles a day, which was absurd now that I look back on it. If had
known how harmful they are to the environment I most likely would ve stopped using water bottles
many years ago. I was pretty annoyed with myself when I found out that around less than 20% of
water bottles are actually fully recycled and that I have just been carelessly using them all my life.
After the first week of class I called my parents and asked if they could send me some money so I
could buy a Hydro Flask, which is made of stainless steel. My father didn t understand why I needed
such an expensive alternative when water bottles are so much cheaper. I was not going to keep
bugging him to buy me one since he spends so much money on my tuition and everything

Five days from now, the world will witness the vitality of American democracy. In a tradition dating
back to our founding, the presidency will pass to a successor chosen by you, the American people.

Every morning, I received a briefing on the threats to our nation. I vowed to do everything in my
power to keep us safe.
Over the past seven years, a new Department of Homeland Security has been created. The military, the
intelligence community, and the FBI have been transformed. Our nation is equipped with new tools to
monitor the terrorists movements, freeze their finances, and break up their plots. And with strong
allies at our side, we have taken the fight to the terrorists and those who support them. Afghanistan has
gone from a nation where the Taliban harbored al Qaeda and stoned women in the streets to a young
democracy that is fighting terror and encouraging girls to go to school. Iraq has gone from a brutal
dictatorship and a sworn enemy of America to an Arab democracy at the heart of the Middle East and
a friend of the United States.
There is legitimate debate about many of these decisions. But there can be little debate about the
results. America has gone more than seven years without another terrorist attack on our soil. This is a
tribute to those who toil night and day to keep us safe law enforcement officers, intelligence analysts,
homeland security and diplomatic personnel, and the men and women of the United States Armed
Forces.
Our nation is blessed to have citizens who volunteer to defend us in this time of danger. I have
cherished meeting these selfless patriots and their families. And America owes you a debt of gratitude.

The Death Of The Khmer Rouge Party Leader, Pol Pot Seized...
From the time humans began to exist in this world, hatred seemed to be a superior attribute that one

without thinking; but it is the acts that are premeditated that should be be classified as evil and brutal.
This appalling endeavor is known as genocide, the deliberate destruction of a particular national,
racial or religious group. Between the years of 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouge party leader, Pol Pot
seized power of Cambodia and forced civilians of urban regions into rural lands for labor in order to
build his own agrarian utopia. Over the course of these four years, the Cambodians and other minor
ethnic groups suffered through labor camps, starvation, and torture which all led up to their demise. As
a result of these mass killings, the country s population depleted by over 20 percent in just a few years.
The country went through hardship during and even before the genocide began including wars,
torment, and considerable numbers of deaths. Cambodia is a country located within Southeast Asia
and is bordered by the countries of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. After being a French protectorate for
nearly a century, on 9 November 1953, Cambodia regained its full independence. The population was

The On Liberty By John Stuart Mills
ON LIBERTY In John Stuart Mills profound work, On Liberty he preaches against the conformity of
the nations and outwardly encourages and restlessly defends voice of the individual. The philosopher
expresses the importance of individuality by warning against forces such as the government and other
citizens silencing their opinion. Though Mill s gives due recognition to virtues such as free speech,
liberty and individualism he also rightly places limitations on our freedoms to ensure our own
freedoms do not infringe upon the ones of those around us. In essence, I believe that Mill s
insightfully provides a logical answer to society on how to live and how to allow others to live; freely
unless harm will ensue. By Mills statement that, [i]f all mankind minus one were of one opinion,
mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would
be justified in silencing mankind one can gain insights into his justification for this argument, the
limitations that should rightly be placed on free speech, the assumptions that are the basis for this
argument. Throughout Mills essay he argues against the oppressive tyranny of the government in
silencing the opinions of others. He warns that, there needs to be protection also against the tyrant of
the prevailing opinion of feeling; against the tendency of society to impose... its own ideas on those
who dissent from them (Mills 9). Further, Mills justifies this statement by

Police Tension Tensions
Industry Analysis
The New York City Police Department was established in 1845 with the primary responsibilities in
law enforcement and investigation. The NYPD are responsible for five boroughs of New York City.
New York City is comprised of 5 counties that are referred to as boroughs, the NYPD is operationally
divided into 8 patrol boroughs. The Patrol Boroughs are Manhattan South, Manhattan North, Bronx,
Brooklyn South, Brooklyn North, Queens South, Queens North, and Staten Island.
The commands in the facilities consist of 77 precincts, 12 transit districts and 9 housing police service
areas. There are approximately 34,500 police officers in the NYPD
The NYPD are very familiar with situations like shooting unarmed citizens. The shooting of Deborah
Danner; mentally ill 66 year old women shot down due to having a baseball bat in hand. The past
shooting of Amadou Diallo; 23 year old African American man shot 44 times for a misunderstanding
of a wallet in his hand. Circumstances such as these cases repeat time and time again. Shooting
unarmed is the result of excessive force. Officers are trained to be one step ahead of individuals when
handling them. That one step has been abused by uneducated officers and excessively apply force to
unnecessary circumstances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Determining Genetic Disorders with Blood Tests
Genetic testing is when tests are done on the blood and other tissue to find genetic disorders in an
individual. It is used as a healthcare tool to detect gene variants associated to a certain disease or
disorder, and is used non clinically for paternity testing and forensics. There are many different
methods of testing, usually done with a blood sample. Other methods include diagnostic testing,
carrier testing, prenatal testing, pre implantation genetic testing, newborn screening, pharmacogentic
testing, and a few others. DNA has about 12 million single nucleotide polymorphisms and thousands
of copy number variants, most of which are not harmful. Sometimes these mutations in genes can
cause genetic disorders that end up altering or inhibiting protein function. Gene Therapy focuses on
correcting the mutated genes usually by inserting a normal gene into the genome. Researchers treat
these diseases this way by repairing dysfunctional gene or by providing copies of the missing gene.
They isolate the normal DNA and package it into a vector. Other ways include replacing the abnormal
gene with a normal one, repair the mutated gene, or altering the regulation of a certain gene. As of
right now, reparative results have been marginal, there is potential of gene therapy treating single gene
disorders.
When used in healthcare, genetic testing can show the genetic cause of a disease, confirm a suspected
diagnosis of an illness, predict future illnesses, and predict responses to

Colistin Essay
Colistin is a type of polymyxin, which are cyclic lipopeptides typically with the structure below. Each
type of polymyxin is characterized by distinct amino acid residues present at positions 6 and 7. In
colistin, also known as polymyxin E, a D leucine is present at position 6 while position 7 contains a
leucine residue. Colistin contains 13 stereocenters.11
Colistin is produced in Bacilius colistinus Koyama via fermentation.12 These cells can be grown in a

Firstly, it is an older drug, and so has not been subjected to the same guidelines and rigorous testing
for new drugs. Secondly, the little information there is on the pharmacodynamics and
pharmacokinetics of colistin is very unreliable.39 Colistin is commercially available in its prodrug
form CMS. However, CMS hydrolyses over time and leads to a higher than normal levels of colistin
in blood samples. This led to pharmacokinetics studies on humans that were performed prior to 2003
to be invalid. The problem is that dosing guidelines were developed when colistin first entered the
market, and was therefore based on faulty data.39 Thirdly, the pharmacokinetics and
pharmacodynamics of CMS and colistin are different, and this makes it very difficult dosing CMS in
order to get the desired colistin plasma concentration.11
Studies over the years have also provided inconsistent results for colistin, in terms of both efficacy and
safety. In addition, the labelling for each colistin product is different, with Colomycin being described
in terms of CMS, and Coly Mycin M in terms of colistin base activity. To make things more
confusing, the recommended dosing guidelines can also be given in terms of milligrams of CMS,
millions of international units of CMS, or milligrams of colistin base

The Valiant Five
The Famous Five, or Valiant Five, was not only made up of five strong, independent women, but five
role models. It started with Emily Murphy, a bright woman from Cookstown, Ontario, who was
determined to make a difference for women all over Canada. She enlisted four other activists, Nellie
McClung, Louise McKinney, Henrietta Edwards, and Irene Parlby, who would help her on her journey
to get women legally recognised as persons in Canada. Although the five made history together, they
each have very unique backstories and each of these women have helped to make a significant
difference in the lives of women for many years to come.
Emily Murphy was a women s rights activist and a feminist. She made history by becoming the first
female judge in Canada for the British Empire, which opened numerous opportunities for other
women. She challenged the idea that women were more than just housewives. Before this movement,
though, she was a writer, best known for her humour and great concern for the welfare of women and
children. After Murphy got married, her and her husband took a trip to the countryside, where she
encountered a women who had been left in poverty due to her husband selling her family farm that she

Environmental Movements Throughout Britain And Assess How...
Environmental movements in Britain have a long history with the Commons, Open Spaces and
Footpath Preservation Society being founded in 1865, followed by the foundation of The Royal
Society for Birds in 1889 and The National Trust in 1895 (Rootes 2003). These societies show the
traditional side to British environmental movements, with Rootes writing that environmentalism in
Britain was thoroughly moderate, respectable and reformist (Rootes 2003: 2). There are an estimated
200 national environmental organisations in the Britain with around 4 5 million members between
them (Rawcliffe 1998; Rootes and Miller 2000, cited in Carter 2007). Since 1991, there has been a
surge in radical protest in Britain (Doherty 1999) which have changed the nature of British
environmentalism and forced an otherwise closed political system to listen to the environmental
concerns of the nation. With reference to examples, this essay will examine the mechanisms used by
environmental movements in Britain and assess how successful these attempts have been.
In the understanding of the environmental movement and the many organisations that it contains, it is
helpful to organise the movements in to categories or groups of shared and similar qualities. Diani and
Donati have identified four organisational types based on two conflicting differences professional or
participatory organisation and disruptive or conventional pressure (Carter 2007). These conflicts result
in the four organisation types

World War I And The Treaty Of Versailles
Have you ever wondered why World War II happened despite World War I being the war to end all
wars? World War I lasted four years and was very gruesome. Much of the Western Front was
destroyed and about 10 million people died. Germany ended the war by ceasing fire and making an
armistice on November 11, 1918. The Allied Power had successfully defeated the Central Powers and
America had accomplished their goal to end the war. After the surrender from Germany, the Allied
Power met up to make a treaty with Germany, however, Germany was not invited to come and
negotiate. The Treaty of Versailles would soon be created and it would put most of the blame of World
War I on Germany. The Treaty of Versailles contributed to the onset of World War II ... Show more

There were four main leaders during the Versailles Conference and they were: Woodrow Wilson,
George Clemenceau, David Lloyd George, and Vittorio Orlando. Each of them had major goals that
would benefit them since the war was on their land. Vittorio Orlando, the Prime Minister of Italy,
worked to get the extra land for Italy. Originally, they would not have been able to do this since Italy
was originally an ally of Germany, but they switched over to the Allied Powers in 1915 and declared
war on Germany. Italy was promised land as a reward for helping out and switching over to the Allied
Powers. David Lloyd George, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, asked for justice and not for
revenge. He wanted Germany to pay for the damages done to Britain s military, Germany s colonies,
and for Gremany to be stipped of its navy. He also helped Wilson and Clemenceau compromise.
George Clemenceau, the Prime Minister of France, wanted both revenge and to punish the Germans.
He wanted Germany to pay for the damage done during the war and to weaken Germany so that they
could never invade France again. He also wanted Germany to give up Rhineland, Alsace Lorraine, and
the Saar. Lastly, he wanted Germany to be totally and permanently disarmed so that it could not attack
other nations. Woodrow Wilson, the President of the United States of America, just wanted to end the
war by making a fair peace treaty. He devised the

Processing and Manufacturing of Cheese
Cheese has been used for centuries in an effort to preserve the nutrition available in milk. Today, more
than fourteen hundred types of cheese exist, each with a distinct taste. (Thompson, 2007)The
manufacturing of cheese is through several processes that are, pasteurization, adding additives, milk
ripening and coagulation, curd treatment and finally cheese ripening. (Goff, 1995)
PH monitoring, along with the casein to moisture ratio, is the most important step that determines
cheese texture. Certain cheese varieties, such as Swiss, Gouda and Cheshire cheese exhibit a narrower
range of pH as compared to Cheddar cheese. Starter cultures are used to achieve the desired pH
needed for fermentation. In order to reach the optimum pH, the temperature, content of lactose and the
products produced during fermentation are closely monitored. This stage of the cheese making process
is called ripening. (Ardo Waagner, 2011). The minimum pH used for the production of different types
of cheese is given in the graph below. (Ardo Waagner, 2011)
Camembert, Feta and Danablu are low pH cheese varities, where as, Cheddar cheese utilizes a
medium minimum pH. High pH cheese varieties include Mozzarella, Tilsiter, Havarti, Gouda, Danbo
and the Emmental groups. (Ardo Waagner, 2011) Starter cultures are microorganisms that are used in
the production of cultured milk products. Lactic acid bacteria, LAB, are the most frequently used
microorganisms in the production of cheese. They help lower the

Men Suit In The Early 1900 s
At the turn of the century, most men began wearing the traditional middle class men s suit that
originated in England, as opposed to the more decadent knee length frock coats and complex suits of
the 1800 s. Most suits in the early 1900 s consisted of three pieces: the jacket, the trousers, and the
vest (known as a waistcoat at the time). Men wore morning coats during the day, which typically were
just jackets with a tailcoat that is cut away on a curving line from the front to the back, and often
paired them with matching or subtly striped trousers. Additionally, men had evening suits in darker
colors and richer fabrics. Like women, affluent men of this era would change clothes several times a
day as propriety dictated. In the 1910 s, lighter fabrics and simpler suit separates grew in popularity,
and by the latter half of the 1910 s, a man s daytime suit consisted of a simpler single breasted jacket

Shoulderpads disappeared, and men began wearing tighter fitting jackets with sloping shoulders. Ties

Unlike many other orthopedic injuries, Achilles tendon injuries are not fully understood, which results
in heavily deliberated treatment procedures. Patients often have an unpredictable outcome with respect
to return to function. Over the previous fifty years, the evolution of repair surgery for the Achilles
tendon has been slow and minimal; furthermore, surgical repair is unpredictable and surrounded by
complications5. Regarding surgical versus non surgical procedures, there are existing studies that
propose that conservative treatment not involving surgery give results comparable to surgical repair as

For example, the study involving doxycycline discussed earlier was merely a pilot study and,
therefore, is supposed to be regarded as a preliminary analysis. This study is meant to provide
important information to orient more specific future research studies. As is the case with many
biomedical research studies, this experiment is done using non human subjects to avoid unknown,
potentially harmful results to be projected on humans. This fact adds to the mystery surrounding the
Achilles tendon; although rats are a good model system for humans, there is a great amount of
generalizability done when transferring the data and results from rats to be interpreted for humans. In
terms of procedure, noteworthy discrepancies exist in the discussed study. For example, the
administration of doxycycline to the rats started one day prior to the induced tendon laceration5. This
is a distortion of reality because in humans we do not know when we will receive an injury to our
Achilles tendon. Furthermore, the injury to the tendon in the rats was surgically induced using a
knife5. Again, this is unrealistic for humans because Achilles tendon injuries do not occur naturally by
way of knife but rather are usually traumatic and do not yield the same clean cut that was obtained in
this study. This is important to note because the way the injury was induced could impact the healing
process

Essay on The Food of the Gods
The Food of the Gods
For over 2000 years, chocolate in its many forms has been enjoyed and its effects have been exalted. It
was believed that the Mexican god Quetzalcoatl left the cocoa tree for the people. The Aztec emperor
Montezuma is reported to have consumed 50 goblets of chocolate a day. It is called the food of the
gods, literally, as a translation of Theobroma Cacao, the cacao bean. (1). Such a title must imply that
chocolate has some naturally occurring superior quality. Why else would we crave it so much more
than other foods? For many people, nothing can take the place of chocolate when a craving hits.
Chocolate and cocoa have very complex chemical properties and many components. Among the most

It is a tetrahydroisoquinoline, (TIQ), or alkaloid of dopamine found endogenous in mammalian brains,
and also found in cocoa and chocolate. This research has claimed that salsolinol seems to be one of the
main psychoactive compounds present in cocoa and chocolate and might be included in chocolate
addiction. Similar compounds have the effect of inhibition of monoamine oxidase (a substance that
reduces the amounts of norepinepherine acting on neurons), mirroring the effect of MAO inhibitors
which are commonly used as antidepressants. Other effects reflect this general antidepressant
influence on the brain. Interestingly, salsolinol was also found to bind with a relatively high affinity to
D3 receptors, a subtype of dopamine receptor which is implicated in reward. This may be a factor in
the rewarding properties which some people find chocolate to possess. Overall, this study suggested
that chocolate may have the ability to psychopharmacologically induce craving and even addiction,
especially in persons who are inclined to become addicted to other things. (5).
Some research has found that chocolate has the capability to stimulate the production of the body s
endogenous opioids, or endorphins. Endorphins work on opioid receptors in the body, the same
receptors on which morphine, heroin and other analgesics work, to cause relief from pain, create
feelings of well being and even euphoria. Although scientists claim that one must eat many pounds of

Argumentative Essay On Child Soldiers
Are you aware that right now, at this very moment, there is a group of young boys ages 8 13 who are
clenching a gun being ordered to kill against their will? It s understood that others opinions about the
dangers of child soldiers being free are only because they don t want to risk anything but, isn t life all
about taking risks? You risk your life leaving the house, and breathing. Also, countries should not
prosecute child soldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime. There also should not be an
international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Here are three reasons why they should not be prosecuted or held responsible. Also that there should
not be an age limit. One. Children are afraid, young, and clueless. Two. Children are 99.99% of the
time drugged, forced, and brainwashed. Children are often brainwashed and drugged before they are
forced to fight. Their vulnerability can allow warlords to make them into cold blooded killers (O Neill

A Tourist Only Sees That Which The Tourist Chooses To See.
A tourist only sees that which the tourist chooses to see. The place the traveler is visiting, such as
Antigua in A Small Place, is simply a commodity; something that is purchased to enjoy for a short
time. Yet, there are others there who see the same things, the same beauty, in a drastically different
light than those who are there visiting by choice. These natives know that the outsiders see them as
part of the package of Antigua, simply locals , when in truth they are prisoners of the island they
inhabit (Thaden). Even though both the American visitors to this tropical nation and the natives of the
island of Antigua are descendants of those who were at one time under British rule, the difference in
both the timing and consequences of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the tourist arrives at the Antiguan airport, they notice the beauty of the island, the lush
vegetation, the bright sunshine and the lack of rain. They arrive in what they see as an earthly
paradise, move quickly through customs, and into a taxi. It is in that taxi that the traveler may realize
their driver is perhaps a bit reckless, and the road they are traveling on is rather dilapidated. However,
thinking below the surface level about why there would be a driver who can not drive, or terrible
roads, or a school that looks more like a rest stop would cause the tourist to ruin their lovely, worry
free vacation (Luburić Cvijanović). When the Antiguan arrives back to their home country, they are
usually not returning home from a vacation of their own, but because there was a need for cheap
clothing and food for their relatives which could not be found in their own country. This Antiguan
must have their bags searched before walking back onto their drought laden soil (Kincaid 4,5). What
the Antiguan citizen realizes that the American tourist does not is that the Antiguan government
considers the nation of Antigua, the land, and the natural beauty of the country to be a commodity, or a
product. The government sells large pieces of land to investors who in turn build enormous
condominiums for the vacationers. The food that the tourist thinks is local, is in fact a product like all
others, caught locally, shipped to Miami to be processed and then back to Antigua at a

Radiology Career Essay
Radiology is a career path that can lead to many places other than diagnostic imaging. Once I finish
the program for Radiology, I have many aspirations for the future. I intend on completing my
bachelors in science and enrolling in courses for CT and MRI certification. My overall goal is to go
into Radiation Therapy or Nuclear Medicine in the next five years. Diagnostic Imaging is the career
that I am currently in school for and is very interesting to me as well as helpful to the patients. X Ray
has been around since its discovery in November of 1895. It allows people in the medical profession
to see inside the human body without having to perform invasive surgery that could be harmful to
patients without knowing what is wrong with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also many in betweens that fall in radiology such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),
computed tomography (CT), specials, cath lab, mammography, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine.
People can even go into management in the radiology field or expand out into sales of radiology
equipment. This field is also always in the top three annual revenue services in every hospital so it is
not a field that will be disappearing anytime in the future. With scientific advancements always
changing, there are no limits to where radiology can go in the future and may even find new
diagnostic studies that can be performed to help more people in need. Although radiology is a great
career choice, it does come with its down side. Technologists in many portions of the radiologic
sciences are exposed to certain amounts of radiation which has a negative effect on the human body.
There are many safety precautions that technologists have to take like wearing lead shields anytime
they are in the exam room with patients, and they also must record their employee dose, or their
personal radiation intake, by wearing a dosimeter and having the readings checked monthly to insure
that they are not getting over radiated over a certain amount of time. Overall, this is a very good career
choice and also makes me feel better to potentially help

New World Capuchin Monkeys
Introduction. In society we have lived most of our lives assuming that monkeys are all the same, there
are no distinguishing factors about them at all except that they climb trees and eat bananas. However
researching about the Capuchin monkeys has taught me many things that make them so unique from
all the other types of monkeys. They are a part of the New World monkeys and have unique traits
about them as well. They are considered to be the most intelligent, and are known to have the
capability to adapt in the wild and captive environments. The physical features of the Capuchin are
that they possess the color black on their arms and legs and tail. While the rest of the body is white.

We know that the Wild capuchins, rely on stones to break the objects they want to consume, because it
s the most ideal object to use. Plus they don t use the stick for a method of finding food, unless they
find it necessary to do. With the Captive Capuchin it seems that they are much more intelligence than
the wild ones, when they insert the stick within the ground they actually take their time within eating
the insects because, they know that they can potentially bite the Capuchin before they eat them, thus
they are more careful within their eating. Plus they are able to understand that they should remove the
leaves or bark from the stick they are using for maximum amounts the While the Wild ones just go for
it, and eats it as fast as he can because he wants the food for survival. As we can tell that there
methods are quite similar when it comes into finding food, but ultimately the biggest difference was
the intelligence within their choices, while the Wild things to a certain degree, but he doesn t think
ahead as the captive. Which is ultimately due to the environment, with the environment we can see
that there are many different changes within the Capuchins which are mentally and

Rhetorical Analysis Of Mark Twain s The Adventures Of...
Humorous Uses of Hypocrisy in Mark Twain s Novels
In Mark Twain diary, he quotes: I am not an American, I am the American (Mark Twain s notebook 1)
in his notebook from his friend. His literature sense definitely proved he is the American, and his
humor is unique with irony in American society. In his novels, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, hypocrisy is reflected well by Twain s humor.
Mark Twain claims in his letter to a friend about The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: It is not a boy s
book, at all. It will only be read by adults. It is only written for adults (1). Mark Twain s The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a novel about youths, but it reviews great truths and philosophy of the
society. The book is too profound for children to understand the moral. The author uses the view of a
child to express the humor of the implication of youth s behavior, the religious irony, and the
hypocritical society.
As the whole story is told by the voice of a teenager, many teenagers behaviors are also expressed in
Mark Twain s language of humor. For example, Tom is a naughty boy and hardly ever listens to his
Aunt Polly, and there comes the punishment: Tom has to whitewash the fence. The playful boy will
never work while others are enjoying the beautiful sunny afternoon; therefore, he draws the innocent
kids into whitewash for him by pretending it is joyful. His ingenious language is described in the
following quote: Tom employs language as a means to

Comparing Chaucer s Friar And The Parson
Today, I will be comparing and contrasting Chaucer s Friar and Parson. More so, show how they have
the same kind of job yet be far different in their personalities and be perceived differently by Chaucer.
The parson, as proof will show, is a kind hearted and devout follower of his religion. Conversely, the
Friar, despite having the same type of job, has a far different demeanor. Firstly comes the similarity of
their jobs. The Friar and the Parson are both characters of similar social stature and are both
committed to the church, one more so than the other. In all Four Orders there was none so mellow
(Line 214). This quote shows that he is part of one of the four orders whom are allowed to beg for
money. There was a Friar (Line 212). Here Chaucer very clearly states what his profession is. He was
a noble pillar to his Order (Line 213). Once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sweetly he heard his penitents at shrift with pleasant absolution, for a gift (Line 225 226). The Friar, a
greedy swindler, will absolve people of their sins if they pay him. That shows that he is really only
doing his job for personal gain. He was an easy man in penance giving (Line 227). A truly religious
Friar would give the penance one deserves, but instead he will take bribes for lesser penances. One
should give silver for a poor Friar s care (Line 236). Quite clearly, the Friar has started charging
people for things that should cost them nothing. Following the bible, the Parson is quite the opposite
of the Friar. A holy minded man of good renown (Line 487). Chaucer describes the Parson as a man
whose mind follows only the teachings of Christ. He much disliked extorting tithe (Line 496).
Contrary to the Friar, the Parson has no goal of making money. First following the word before he
taught it (Line 507). The Parson makes sure he is following the word of God before he teaches other
people about it, something the Friar does not

  • 2. A Brief Look At The Historical View Of Conditional Election A brief look at the historical view of conditional election that is briefly stated with Scriptures that is used today. Giving evidence, that conditional is better than unconditional as in the Five Points of Calvinism. Though the Bible obviously demonstrates that God selects individuals to redemption, there are two differences as to the foundation of election. Conditional election is the idea that God choose individuals for redemption centered on His omniscience of who want to place their belief in Jesus. The free will of man plays into the scope of eternity. Historical View Origen was one of the original to believe that predestination and will of man plays an important role in the doctrine of election. The Scripture he uses is 2 Timothy 2:20 21 to where men can be saved. John Chrysostom endorsed the thought on how salvation is performed. Semi Pelagians also opposed unconditional because of human freedom and preaching would be pointless. The Catholics believe the part of free choice and being in the grace of God. James Arminius disagreed with Calvinist on a few issues like atonement and will of man. He formulated major proclamations of the process of salvation. James articles were dismissed at Synod of Dort for being against the Scriptures and where the articles from Calvin were accepted for the churches to teach. John Wesley was strongly against unconditional and Calvinism that he gave reasons why the theory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Gender As A Product Of Socialisation Australian sociologist, Connell, has provided theories in order to aid in understanding the way in which gender is manifested and shapes the experience of illness. Her Gender, Health and Theory publication ultimately views gender as a product of socialisation (Connell, 2012). According to Connell, Gender is seen as the active social process that brings reproductive bodies into history, generating health consequences not as a side effect but in the making of gender itself (Connell, 2012, p.1675). Her work ultimately emphasises that gender differences are formed by the expectations of society, confining the ways in which males and females should act (Connell, 2012). Connell s Masculinities theory furthers this concept. She defines masculinity as a set of perceived notions and principles about the way in which men should or are expected to act (Connell, 1995). She highlights that society dictates ways of being masculine and unmasculine, with unmasculine typically insinuating femininity (Connell, 1995). She also argues that the terms masculine and feminine point beyond categorical sex difference to the ways men differ among themselves, and women differ among themselves, in matters of gender (Connell, 1995, p.69). Masculinities are often favored over femininities, as men in general are paid better, enjoy more social freedom and hold other benefits that women do not due to their gender (Connell, 1995). Therefore, women as a group typically lack the societal power that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Moral Problem Of A Moral Theory Some people think that one aim of a moral theory is to give one a decision procedure to use when faced with moral problems. Decision procedures are defined as procedures that are similar to an algorithm for determining a finite number of specific steps that validate a particular proposition or argument. Well known examples of a decision procedure is the popular Venn diagrams for aid in determining an interpretation of categorical knowledge and truth tables which are used in calculus problems. But what makes this procedure different from these examples is that we are talking about moral problems. Moral problems or moral issues are concerns that are shown to be any issue with the possibility to help and or harm anyone which could include ourselves. When making any decision, the consequences of that decision we make could reflect on our own morality. This means that this reflects our character, judgment, and our thoughts, but what is clearly defined when we make a decision is where we place ourselves to be. We classify ourselves and associate our decision making based on what we identify ourselves as. Aristotle s virtue ethics, Mill s utilitarianism, and Kant s deontological theory are examples of possible classifications that one may associate and identify themselves as. Each of these theories present a particular procedure to abide by when making a decision. This has historically been labeled the expectations gap They concluded that although auditors were not totally responsible for the scandals in 2000 and beyond, all too many independent auditors lost their autonomy and judgment and ended by blurring the line between right and wrong. • 12. New World Order Research Paper The new world order but is it new? The continuing war on the enlightenment. First let s lay down some ground work through history. Anyone who studies the American revolution realizes that the founding fathers had the enlightenment on their minds when they wrote the constitution. As we have written in the past, America was founded at a unique time in history by unique circumstances and people. In order to realize the ongoing war on the enlightenment, you have to understand the time line. Most scholors agree that the Enlightenment was a result of the Thirty Years War. This horrible war, lasted from 1618 to 1648. It compelled German writers (such as Hugo Grotius and John Comenius) to pen harsh criticisms regarding the ideas of nationalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term New World order has been hijacked. The new world order is the form of government our founding fathers gave to us in the constitution . The politicians dream of a world where the U.N controls everything and we all use a centrally controlled currency is nothing but old ideas rehashed that ultimately deprive men of their liberties. The old world order. No countries, no borders, just one world where everyone sings Kumbaya and there are no wars or hungry people. Sounds good, but it does not take in consideration that there may be a considerable number of people that do not want to take part in somebody else s Utopian dream. That is where things become dangerous. Every time there is central authority it must be able to force people to do it s will. Something the socialist professors conveniently leave out when espousing the virtues of central authority (socialism). America became a country that gave rights to people that no other country had done. The problem is that a self governing society has to have a moral compass in order to function. Churches and community kept America together until the past 30 years or so. As government encroaches on the family and community, and as personal responsibility fades, central authority has to enforce and create laws to keep the population in check. In order for us to regain ground in the war on enlightenment, we have to stop looking to government for answers and start fixing things in our local communities. But when you go back to the roots of folk music, there is one that most every American recognizes. This Land Is Your Land has been a staple of Americana for nearly 75 years. The lyrics start off by giving a visual image of the vastness of America. It mentions California and the New York Island which focuses on the widest breadth of the country. Then it mentions the Redwood Forest (Which is also in California), and the Gulf Stream waters which are two easily recognizable features that are unique to America. Nobody living can ever make him turn back, because this land was made for everyone. He is just saying that he will not give up just because it is hard. When the land was MADE for everyone, he is not going to stop until he has reached it. The last verse that is kept out of the song is without a doubt the very best one. It says that he has seen his people in the squares of the city and in the shadow of a steeple, beside the relief office they are standing hungry. This brought to mind the question to Woody, after everything that he had seen, was this land really made for everyone? It is important for teachers to have a good relationship with parents in order to make the best decisions for the child. Teachers and parents can come together to make these decisions. In regards to special education, the parental involvement MUST be there. • 16. The Themes Of Courage In The Book Thief By Markus Zusak Themes are inserted within literature by the author in an attempt to provoke readers to think about the topic provided. In the novel, The Book Thief, written by Markus Zusak, many topics are presents, such as, courage, suffering, and human behavior. The most prevalent, however, is the courage possessed by certain individuals. This theme, bravery, is evident throughout the entire course of the novel in Liesel Meminger, the Hubermanns, and Max Vandenburg. Liesel Meminger, coined The Book Thief , exhibits extraordinary acts of courage within the literary work. Since birth, Meminger has faced hardships; she deals with the absence of her father, the death of her younger brother, and the abandonment by her mother all within several years. These adversities lead to the development of Meminger s courageous nature, which she displays throughout the novel. Acts of her courage include stealing books and trusting the Hubermanns After attending her brother s funeral, Liesel notices that one of the gravediggers has dropped a novel. Looking around to make sure no one is watching her, she collects the book and hides it; stealing this book ignites the fire and desire inside of her to learn how to read and expand her knowledge. After Liesel Meminger arrives to the Hubermanns house in Molching, Germany, she has to be coaxed out of the car. Finally, Hans Hubermann, later known as Papa, is the successor in luring the child out of the car, he immediately gains her trust, unlike his cold counterpart, Rosa Hubermann. Despite Rosa s foul mouth and direct orders, Saumensch. You call me Mama when you talk to me (Zusak 35), Liesel eventually learns to trust and love her. Learning to love and to trust the Hubermanns shows how courageous Liesel truly is since she had previously faced the abandonment/death of two parents. Hans and Rosa Hubermann are driven by bravery throughout the entire course of The Book Thief and are perhaps the most courageous characters within the novel. • 17. Kirksville Library Volunteers Case Introduction to Organization and Environment In regards to the Kirksville Library Volunteers Case, this is a medium sized public library located in a large, southern city. Non profit. Funding. In order for the library to function beyond the limits of its normal paid staff, the library relies on a large volunteer reserve of 75 volunteers. This library functions like many other libraries in its input, throughput, and output. It is most likely a non profit organization that is funded by sources such as taxes, grants, and private benefactors. The library also likely runs on a quarterly budget if not a yearly budget and it does not often have to change how things are done. Because of this, the library by definition falls into a placid environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volunteers would be guaranteed projects and tasks to do during their shift. In this situation there would only be one employee managing the 75 volunteers, again this may be too much for one person. Managing a lot of individuals can cause frustration for the selected employee who is managing the volunteers, thus disturbing morale in the workplace. The most practical solution for this management case would be to choose three to four serious, eligible and qualified volunteers to become Volunteer Coordinators. Each Volunteer Coordinator would be assigned to one section of the library e.g. circulation, technical services, or outreach and so on. They would be liaising with staff from the designated section, creating a list of projects and tasks that could be fulfilled by the volunteer. Previous communication issues would more than likely be solved between staff and volunteer coordinators. The Volunteer Coordinators would then select which category of the library volunteers would work, dividing them up evenly as possible. A trusting relationship will begin to form after the volunteer works in their designated section. One disadvantage of this arrangement could be that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The one item that would stand out the most is water bottles. I have close to a case of empty water bottles just sitting around my desk, my nightstand, and piled up in the recycling bin. I refill each water bottle about 2 to 3 times after drinking one but now I m all out and refuse to buy another case of water bottles. I never realized how harmful they are too the environment until this class. Never had I realized how much unnecessary waste I contribute into our environment and it s time for me to start finding positive alternatives. I have been using water bottles for as long as I can remember. In high school I would take about two or three water bottles a day, which was absurd now that I look back on it. If had known how harmful they are to the environment I most likely would ve stopped using water bottles many years ago. I was pretty annoyed with myself when I found out that around less than 20% of water bottles are actually fully recycled and that I have just been carelessly using them all my life. After the first week of class I called my parents and asked if they could send me some money so I could buy a Hydro Flask, which is made of stainless steel. This inevitable emotion has the ability to provoke people to engage in acts without thinking; but it is the acts that are premeditated that should be be classified as evil and brutal. This appalling endeavor is known as genocide, the deliberate destruction of a particular national, racial or religious group. Between the years of 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouge party leader, Pol Pot seized power of Cambodia and forced civilians of urban regions into rural lands for labor in order to build his own agrarian utopia. Over the course of these four years, the Cambodians and other minor ethnic groups suffered through labor camps, starvation, and torture which all led up to their demise. • 22. The On Liberty By John Stuart Mills ON LIBERTY In John Stuart Mills profound work, On Liberty he preaches against the conformity of the nations and outwardly encourages and restlessly defends voice of the individual. The philosopher expresses the importance of individuality by warning against forces such as the government and other citizens silencing their opinion. Though Mill s gives due recognition to virtues such as free speech, liberty and individualism he also rightly places limitations on our freedoms to ensure our own freedoms do not infringe upon the ones of those around us. In essence, I believe that Mill s insightfully provides a logical answer to society on how to live and how to allow others to live; freely unless harm will ensue. By Mills statement that, [i]f all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind one can gain insights into his justification for this argument, the limitations that should rightly be placed on free speech, the assumptions that are the basis for this argument. Throughout Mills essay he argues against the oppressive tyranny of the government in silencing the opinions of others. He warns that, there needs to be protection also against the tyrant of the prevailing opinion of feeling; against the tendency of society to impose... its own ideas on those who dissent from them (Mills 9). • 25. Determining Genetic Disorders with Blood Tests Genetic testing is when tests are done on the blood and other tissue to find genetic disorders in an individual. It is used as a healthcare tool to detect gene variants associated to a certain disease or disorder, and is used non clinically for paternity testing and forensics. There are many different methods of testing, usually done with a blood sample. Other methods include diagnostic testing, carrier testing, prenatal testing, pre implantation genetic testing, newborn screening, pharmacogentic testing, and a few others. DNA has about 12 million single nucleotide polymorphisms and thousands of copy number variants, most of which are not harmful. Sometimes these mutations in genes can cause genetic disorders that end up altering or inhibiting protein function. Gene Therapy focuses on correcting the mutated genes usually by inserting a normal gene into the genome. Researchers treat these diseases this way by repairing dysfunctional gene or by providing copies of the missing gene. They isolate the normal DNA and package it into a vector. Other ways include replacing the abnormal gene with a normal one, repair the mutated gene, or altering the regulation of a certain gene. As of right now, reparative results have been marginal, there is potential of gene therapy treating single gene disorders. When used in healthcare, genetic testing can show the genetic cause of a disease, confirm a suspected diagnosis of an illness, predict future illnesses, and predict responses to ... She enlisted four other activists, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, Henrietta Edwards, and Irene Parlby, who would help her on her journey to get women legally recognised as persons in Canada. Environmental movements in Britain have a long history with the Commons, Open Spaces and Footpath Preservation Society being founded in 1865, followed by the foundation of The Royal Society for Birds in 1889 and The National Trust in 1895 (Rootes 2003). These societies show the traditional side to British environmental movements, with Rootes writing that environmentalism in Britain was thoroughly moderate, respectable and reformist (Rootes 2003: 2). There are an estimated 200 national environmental organisations in the Britain with around 4 5 million members between them (Rawcliffe 1998; Rootes and Miller 2000, cited in Carter 2007). Since 1991, there has been a surge in radical protest in Britain (Doherty 1999) which have changed the nature of British environmentalism and forced an otherwise closed political system to listen to the environmental concerns of the nation. With reference to examples, this essay will examine the mechanisms used by environmental movements in Britain and assess how successful these attempts have been. In the understanding of the environmental movement and the many organisations that it contains, it is helpful to organise the movements in to categories or groups of shared and similar qualities. Today, more than fourteen hundred types of cheese exist, each with a distinct taste. (Thompson, 2007)The manufacturing of cheese is through several processes that are, pasteurization, adding additives, milk ripening and coagulation, curd treatment and finally cheese ripening. (Goff, 1995) PH monitoring, along with the casein to moisture ratio, is the most important step that determines cheese texture. Certain cheese varieties, such as Swiss, Gouda and Cheshire cheese exhibit a narrower range of pH as compared to Cheddar cheese. Starter cultures are used to achieve the desired pH needed for fermentation. In order to reach the optimum pH, the temperature, content of lactose and the products produced during fermentation are closely monitored. This stage of the cheese making process is called ripening. This fact adds to the mystery surrounding the Achilles tendon; although rats are a good model system for humans, there is a great amount of generalizability done when transferring the data and results from rats to be interpreted for humans. In terms of procedure, noteworthy discrepancies exist in the discussed study. For example, the administration of doxycycline to the rats started one day prior to the induced tendon laceration5. This is a distortion of reality because in humans we do not know when we will receive an injury to our Achilles tendon. Furthermore, the injury to the tendon in the rats was surgically induced using a knife5. Again, this is unrealistic for humans because Achilles tendon injuries do not occur naturally by way of knife but rather are usually traumatic and do not yield the same clean cut that was obtained in this study. This is important to note because the way the injury was induced could impact the healing process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Essay on The Food of the Gods The Food of the Gods For over 2000 years, chocolate in its many forms has been enjoyed and its effects have been exalted. It was believed that the Mexican god Quetzalcoatl left the cocoa tree for the people. The Aztec emperor Montezuma is reported to have consumed 50 goblets of chocolate a day. It is called the food of the gods, literally, as a translation of Theobroma Cacao, the cacao bean. (1). Such a title must imply that chocolate has some naturally occurring superior quality. Why else would we crave it so much more than other foods? For many people, nothing can take the place of chocolate when a craving hits. Chocolate and cocoa have very complex chemical properties and many components. Among the most researched components ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a tetrahydroisoquinoline, (TIQ), or alkaloid of dopamine found endogenous in mammalian brains, and also found in cocoa and chocolate. This research has claimed that salsolinol seems to be one of the main psychoactive compounds present in cocoa and chocolate and might be included in chocolate addiction. Similar compounds have the effect of inhibition of monoamine oxidase (a substance that reduces the amounts of norepinepherine acting on neurons), mirroring the effect of MAO inhibitors which are commonly used as antidepressants. Other effects reflect this general antidepressant influence on the brain. Interestingly, salsolinol was also found to bind with a relatively high affinity to D3 receptors, a subtype of dopamine receptor which is implicated in reward. This may be a factor in the rewarding properties which some people find chocolate to possess. Overall, this study suggested that chocolate may have the ability to psychopharmacologically induce craving and even addiction, especially in persons who are inclined to become addicted to other things. (5). Some research has found that chocolate has the capability to stimulate the production of the body s endogenous opioids, or endorphins. Endorphins work on opioid receptors in the body, the same receptors on which morphine, heroin and other analgesics work, to cause relief from pain, create feelings of well being and even euphoria. Although scientists claim that one must eat many pounds of chocolate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Argumentative Essay On Child Soldiers Are you aware that right now, at this very moment, there is a group of young boys ages 8 13 who are clenching a gun being ordered to kill against their will? It s understood that others opinions about the dangers of child soldiers being free are only because they don t want to risk anything but, isn t life all about taking risks? You risk your life leaving the house, and breathing. Also, countries should not prosecute child soldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime. There also should not be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Here are three reasons why they should not be prosecuted or held responsible. Also that there should not be an age limit. One. Children are afraid, young, and clueless. Two. Children are 99.99% of the time drugged, forced, and brainwashed. Children are often brainwashed and drugged before they are forced to fight. Their vulnerability can allow warlords to make them into cold blooded killers (O Neill 1 ). Three. Children are independent, lonesome, and they want/need a family. One that gives them love. First, children being afraid, young, and clueless, leads to nothing but chaotic events. When it comes to death, what child would not be afraid? They do not know what s going on and what s happening. Especially children ages 5 14. They understand what people say and can talk, but that does not mean they choose right decisions, or the wrong ones intentionally. They do not what s ... • 40. A Tourist Only Sees That Which The Tourist Chooses To See. A tourist only sees that which the tourist chooses to see. The place the traveler is visiting, such as Antigua in A Small Place, is simply a commodity; something that is purchased to enjoy for a short time. Yet, there are others there who see the same things, the same beauty, in a drastically different light than those who are there visiting by choice. These natives know that the outsiders see them as part of the package of Antigua, simply locals , when in truth they are prisoners of the island they inhabit (Thaden). Even though both the American visitors to this tropical nation and the natives of the island of Antigua are descendants of those who were at one time under British rule, the difference in both the timing and consequences of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the tourist arrives at the Antiguan airport, they notice the beauty of the island, the lush vegetation, the bright sunshine and the lack of rain. They arrive in what they see as an earthly paradise, move quickly through customs, and into a taxi. It is in that taxi that the traveler may realize their driver is perhaps a bit reckless, and the road they are traveling on is rather dilapidated. However, thinking below the surface level about why there would be a driver who can not drive, or terrible roads, or a school that looks more like a rest stop would cause the tourist to ruin their lovely, worry free vacation (Luburić Cvijanović). When the Antiguan arrives back to their home country, they are usually not returning home from a vacation of their own, but because there was a need for cheap clothing and food for their relatives which could not be found in their own country. This Antiguan must have their bags searched before walking back onto their drought laden soil (Kincaid 4,5). What the Antiguan citizen realizes that the American tourist does not is that the Antiguan government considers the nation of Antigua, the land, and the natural beauty of the country to be a commodity, or a product. The government sells large pieces of land to investors who in turn build enormous condominiums for the vacationers. The food that the tourist thinks is local, is in fact a product like all others, caught locally, shipped to Miami to be processed and then back to Antigua at a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I intend on completing my bachelors in science and enrolling in courses for CT and MRI certification. My overall goal is to go into Radiation Therapy or Nuclear Medicine in the next five years. Diagnostic Imaging is the career that I am currently in school for and is very interesting to me as well as helpful to the patients. X Ray has been around since its discovery in November of 1895. They are considered to be the most intelligent, and are known to have the capability to adapt in the wild and captive environments. • 45. Rhetorical Analysis Of Mark Twain s The Adventures Of... Humorous Uses of Hypocrisy in Mark Twain s Novels In Mark Twain diary, he quotes: I am not an American, I am the American (Mark Twain s notebook 1) in his notebook from his friend. His literature sense definitely proved he is the American, and his humor is unique with irony in American society. In his novels, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, hypocrisy is reflected well by Twain s humor. Mark Twain claims in his letter to a friend about The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: It is not a boy s book, at all. It will only be read by adults. It is only written for adults (1). Mark Twain s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a novel about youths, but it reviews great truths and philosophy of the society. The book is too profound for children to understand the moral. The author uses the view of a child to express the humor of the implication of youth s behavior, the religious irony, and the hypocritical society. As the whole story is told by the voice of a teenager, many teenagers behaviors are also expressed in Mark Twain s language of humor. For example, Tom is a naughty boy and hardly ever listens to his Aunt Polly, and there comes the punishment: Tom has to whitewash the fence. The playful boy will never work while others are enjoying the beautiful sunny afternoon; therefore, he draws the innocent kids into whitewash for him by pretending it is joyful. His ingenious language is described in the following quote: Tom employs language as a means to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Comparing Chaucer s Friar And The Parson Today, I will be comparing and contrasting Chaucer s Friar and Parson. More so, show how they have the same kind of job yet be far different in their personalities and be perceived differently by Chaucer. The parson, as proof will show, is a kind hearted and devout follower of his religion. Conversely, the Friar, despite having the same type of job, has a far different demeanor. Firstly comes the similarity of their jobs. The Friar and the Parson are both characters of similar social stature and are both committed to the church, one more so than the other. In all Four Orders there was none so mellow (Line 214). This quote shows that he is part of one of the four orders whom are allowed to beg for money. There was a Friar (Line 212). Here Chaucer very clearly states what his profession is. He was a noble pillar to his Order (Line 213). Once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sweetly he heard his penitents at shrift with pleasant absolution, for a gift (Line 225 226). The Friar, a greedy swindler, will absolve people of their sins if they pay him. That shows that he is really only doing his job for personal gain. He was an easy man in penance giving (Line 227). A truly religious Friar would give the penance one deserves, but instead he will take bribes for lesser penances. One should give silver for a poor Friar s care (Line 236). Quite clearly, the Friar has started charging people for things that should cost them nothing. Following the bible, the Parson is quite the opposite of the Friar. A holy minded man of good renown (Line 487). Chaucer describes the Parson as a man whose mind follows only the teachings of Christ. He much disliked extorting tithe (Line 496). Contrary to the Friar, the Parson has no goal of making money. First following the word before he taught it (Line 507). The Parson makes sure he is following the word of God before he teaches other people about it, something the Friar does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
