Spider-Man Is A Favourite Hero
The World s Favourite Webslinger.
Everyone has once wanted to be a superhero. Whether you grew out of it to play with basketballs
and Barbie dolls or race cars; or if you still hope that one day you ll miraculously be able to fly and
lift things three times your size that dream was still there. As kids, being able to save people and
the world seems unlikely, yet because of figures that we had to look up to, we believed that
nothing was really impossible. Spider Man is one of these said figures. Spider Man was created by
Steve Ditko and Stan Lee for Marvel comics in the sixties, but if you couldn t already tell by the
countless reboots, Peter Parker s Spider Man is still one of Marvel s most popular superheroes
to date. Peter Parker is a fifteen year old, who s just like anyone else. It just so happens that he
got bit by a radioactive spider one day and his life changed immensely. He s incredibly smart and
inventive, but when it all comes down to it: he s just a normal teenager who s struggling to find
himself, let alone strategize how to defeat bad guys in his spare time when he doesn t have to
worry about homework. Spider Man has been a superhero that has transcended through time as the
underdog that resonates with people, providing those with the hope that anyone can be a hero and
help out the little guy.
Though he was created in 1962, Spider Man seems to never grow old or become outdated. He
naturally wants to help people, to be someone who helps

Compulsory Heteronormativity
Compulsory Heterosexuality
Introduction
In today s world, as humankind is still in progress, we have a much more liberated world
compared to past. In terms of politics, we learned discrimination is not a honourable case to be
involved in and we tried to minimize constraints reflected on other races, other nationalities, in short
all of the others that are not similar to us . Us is, without doubt, white, Western man. Despite all the
back drawed prejudices of others in the name of liberation, respect and equality, it does not seem to
be the situation for non heteronormatives to live in a peaceful environment. Since I came to
Amsterdam as an exchange student this term, I had the opportunity to experience daily life with all
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that compulsory heterosexuality is the central issue of homosexual argument s,
there is limited work specifically concentrated on heteronormativity. Majority of the articles are
about gay lesbian rights and inequalities in terms of citizenship rights. However, almost every
article reflects the normality of homosexuality contradictory to heteronormative theory. All of them
lay natural causes and reasons down on the table and accuse heteronormativity of being
reproduction obsessed.
Paper
In this paper, my main argument is to reject the superiority of the normal heterosexual and to
equalize the non heterosexual. So here is the question; what is normal? Who defines it?
We have evidence that in the past, a long time ago, from the start of the first civilization, sex was a
primary issue. Putting aside people s active sexual lives, homosexuality is known to be very
common in Sumerians, Ancient Greek and Romans .(Heterosexuality). I do not mean to say that
homosexuality was common than heterosexuality but even in story of Gilgamesh the hero is said to
be in love with the man he needed to fight with.
One other thing claiming the normality of non heterosexualism is the invention of terms . It was
only 19th century the term homosexuality was invented, then followed by heterosexuality
(Heterosexuality) . Bisexuality came later in 20th century to define people who do not have
dominant choices for a sex partner. As it is seen even the terms are

Evaluation Of A Learning Organization
Organizations that strive to excel in aspects of innovation, competitiveness, and performance must
have clearly defined core values that are executed by specific learning disciplines (Senge, 2010).
Giesecke and McNeil (2004) stated, A learning organization is an organization skilled at creating,
acquiring, and transferring knowledgeand at modifying its behavior to reflect new knowledge and
insights (p. 55). In the pursuit of defining specific practices that would produce an ideal learning
organization, Senge (2008) proposes five disciplines that include, ...systems thinking, mental
models, personal mastery, shared vision, and dialogue (p. 1). In this application paper I will
analyze each of the five disciplines discussed by Senge (2008) and discuss how they can be
applied in an organization such as the high schoolwhere I am currently teaching to address specific
areas in need of improvement. The high school where I currently teach consists of twenty four
hundred students from grades 10th through 12th. This school organization as many others is in the
business of meeting educational challenges in the midst of innovative times in a noble attempt to
prepare students academically for the demands of an ever changing and knowledge driven work
environment. There are several key factors that I observe in our school that have in some way
hindered our progress in becoming an ideal learning organization. First, our school depends on the
collaborative and communication processes

Deconstructing of Forest and Woodland
Introduction
The definitions for the words forest and woodland are heterogeneous around the world and are
circumscribed to each countryВґs structural stands in local eco regions.
Countries as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Japan, Mexico or US, with a great
diversity of climates and soil conditions attributable to their large land extensions and altitude
gradients (Borja Jimenez et al. 2013), can be identified as territories with high variety of forests
and woodlands.
The great diversity and diffuse thresholds among ecosystems difficult construction of criteria for
their classification into inventories and application of management and conservation policies.
Box Fujiwara (2013) differentiate forests from woodlands: forest is an ecosystem dominated by tall
trees, in a closed structure (considered closed when tree crowns are touching) and woodland is an
ecosystem dominated by tall or short trees with an open distribution.
The etymology of both words has different meanings according to the language. In Chinese,
жЈ®жћ— (sД“nlГn), the first character, sД“n (also mori in Japanese) means tree , forest , dark ,
gloomy ; the second character, lГn, means forest , grove , thicket , wood . Differently, жћ—ењ°
(lГndГ¬) means wood (first character) land (second character). It also means holt that means little
forest . The word bosque in Spanish derives from the German word busch meaning bush , shrub ,
jungle . Different from English, in Spanish the terms

Native American Humor Research Paper
Joking or humor can serve many different functions throughout society, across many different
cultures, religious beliefs, and political backgrounds. In a medical light, humor can aid in
rehabilitation and overcoming traumatic injuries. In Native American culture there is a deep
history of humor in both social and religious spectrums. Humorcan serve as many social and
religious functions, especially in a historical context for Native American culture. There is an
importance of teasing within Native American families, categorized by common gentle teasing
which serve as social function by warming family relationships without compromising respect or
use of sternness from elders. It can also serve as a spiritual function for Native Americans as some
tribes believe the first laugh of a child to be a symbol of good humor in their life and ensures
lifelong generosity. Humor is rooted deep into Native American culture and has significant
influence on young Native Americans. Understanding the effect of humor on Native American
culture can aid in preventing inappropriate humor which can be considered culturally insensitive.

Native Americans have been used as symbols for sports teams for many years such as the Chiefs,
Redskins, or Braves. In recent years, this form of symbolism has been labelled as politically
incorrect and culturally insensitive for Native Americans. Although there are many negative effects
from humor of Native American culture, humor can be used in a positive light. With light being
shed on many of the political issues raised by Native Americans and the mistreatment of ancestors
by the government, light sensed humor of the subjects can ease much of the tension for the
communities. These jokes often take form in witty comments, presented as sarcasm to a true

Human Rights Of Mahatma Gandhi
Human Rights Mahatma Gandhi was arrested thirteen times during his lifetime, three of which
were for not holding a registration card. Cesar Chavez dropped out of school at age fourteen to
work as a migrant worker. Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head once and the shoulders twice
for speaking out for women s rights in Pakistan. These three activists all persevered through hard
times to enact change for human rights. Gandhi was a civil rights leader in India who began a
revolution through non violent protests, boycotts, and hunger strikes. According to Satyagraha:
Gandhi s Legacy , Gandhi s work inspired large scale global change. Resistance to British
involvement in South Africa and in India helped to inspire a movement of decolonization all over
the world . This triggered a string of civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr, Cesar
Chavez, Malala Yousafzai, and Nelson Mandela. Additionally, the author of Mahatma Gandhi:
Father Of The Nation states, Mahatma Gandhi is revered in India as the Father of the Nation
(Singh). In light of this, the Constitution of Free India conferred the title of Father of the Nation
upon Gandhi. Moreover, the author of Mahatma Gandhi: Father of the Nation asserts, Mahatma
Gandhi crystallized about him the living forces of the soil (Singh). Gandhi had such a big impact
on the Indian revolution and Free India that his soul is embedded in the land and he is seen as the
father Free India and cemented peaceful protest as a mean for political change.
Cesar Chavez was a migrant worker who through the United Farm Workerslabor union fought for
migrant workers rights in the United States. According to the Cesar Chavez Foundation, Under
Cesar, the UFW achieved unprecedented gains for farm workers, establishing it as the first
successful farm workers union in American history . Many of these gains include restrooms in the
fields, safety equipment, and the banning of a pesticide called DDT which causes cancer and
damage to the liver system. Furthermore, the Cesar Chavez Foundation asserts that, The coming

Religion Affects Daily Life
How does Religion Affect Daily Lives?
The purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticise others. Dalai Lama. Religion is not
something people blindly follow for the hope of reaching heaven. At one point or another in life,
every person encounters the moment where they make the decision of being an active religious
person, a religious person but don t attend church, or don t believe in a superior power. Whether a
person chooses option one, two, or three, each choice brings consequences and a different life
with that choice. People live a different kind of life, with different goals to reach, and what kind of
life a person may want to live. Religion has a profound effect on people s daily lives, and the areas
it affects are work life, family life, and the standards a person holds.
Work Life
It happens to everyone, people are at work (or school) and have a project due on Monday, but
they see the clock ticking closer and closer to 5pm, and have that urge to slip out a few mins
early so they can get ahead of schedule on ordering the wings and pizza and getting good movie
tickets. The consequence of doing this is the person having to choose whether to finish the project
on Saturday, Sunday, or if the person really wants to push it, Monday morning. So what option are
you going to take?
Work Smarter, Not Harder
Full time committed religious people know the regular weekend schedule. Saturday is the day to
sleep in, cook some good breakfast, and take the kids

U.s. Vice President Of Strategic Planning Essay
Executive Summary Our project report is based upon the Japanese Company Taka that has been
making top of the line heavy duty work boots. The vice president of the Strategic Planning has
asked me to come up with a strategy that will help the company enter into the US foreign market.
We will have to first explore and analyze the market on heavy boots in the United Statesbefore
entering our product into their market. There has been a report created by myself that will go into
detail on how we can achieve this goal. The parts that will be covered in this reports are as
followed: introduction into the brand, mission, analysis, strategy, goals, and so on. Going through
this plan will show how we can enter the United States Market.
Introduction
The Vice President of Strategic Planning has given me the task of creating a preliminary
strategy for entering one or more foreign market. This company is a multinational company and
makes heavy duty work boots for consumers. The company is called Taka and resides in Japan,
but are looking into entering the United States market. The boots were originally made for
people who work in construction. It became popular with its comfort and quality that it is now
made for other professions or just for style and are being made in the United States. The boots that
Taka makes are comfortable and people are able to work in areas that are snowy or hazardous
without any problems (Holm, 2006).

Male love in The Things They Carried
The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a fictional book consisting of different stories from
Vietnam war. Tim O Brien was trying to convey the real perspectives of the war to his readers by
telling facts and stories through his personal memories he got from the war, and how things effect
them and their life after the war. In order to express the tension in the war, O Brien depicts the
experience of the soldiers by showing the different ways of expression of male love from these
soldiers. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to
place, the friendship in the war is the most unique one. As the definition of Friendship, Friendship
is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. The bond between soldiers is more
intense and real, and this is also the message that Tim O Brien shows in his book by using
metaphor, details depicting and technique of repetition.
Tim O Brien uses metaphor of photos to express the life before, tie all soldiers together, and thus
show the friendship of them. The Thing They Carried is not only describing the life in the Vietnam
war, but is more about the things that they carried, and the emotions and stories behind these things.
All soldiers bring some small items, like comic books and hunting hatchets, which contain their
memory from the past, to the war. My girl. What about her? The picture, it was

Summer Narrative I am being transported in a chinook chopper as a rescue team for the
survivors of operation redwing. All of the sudden I see a taliban soldier holding an RPG looks
right at my helicopter and fires. The rocket zooms across the mountain and hits the helicopter. A
blast of heat knocked me backward and out of the helicopter. I land into the mountain side as I
see my helicopter crash into the mountain side. Soon enough I am rolling down the hill until I
strike a rock. I am sitting on top of a cave and I hear coughing inside the cave. In fear of my life I
thought it was the taliban, but when I come around the corner I see one of the soldiers I came to
rescue. I sigh with relief and lean against the wall of the cave. But I did not have too much of a
break from the action. I heard foot steps of two people on top of the cave. Me and marcus have our
rifles pointed at the entrance of the cave. Four black beady eyes see us in the cave and we put 3

Vegetarianism In Central And South America
Vegetarianism is not a modern phenomenon. Indeed, as a lifestyle vegetarianism began with the
Greek aesthetes and was subsequently adopted by many Romans who thought a frugal lifestyle to
be beneficial to themselves and to the state.
However, through much of human history people have relied on a mainly vegetarian diet to
survive. The great civilizations of central and south America also had a predominantly vegetarian
diet. This actually isn t as easy as it sounds, as the human body needs to source a number of
proteins from the diet. Now, one way to ensure that these proteins are gained in adequate quantities
is to combine grains and beans.
This is why almost all cultures have their mix of the grain and bean staple either as part of their
current cuisines or as parts of their historical cuisines. In Africa, historically this ... Show more

The interesting thing about this diet was the inclusion of chillies. Chillies both act to spice and
flavour the food. However, the fresh chilli fruit are also a good source of vitamin C which is
critical in a vegetarian diet as it aids in the uptake of non haeme (ie non blood) iron into the body.
This may well explain why chillies spread worldwide so quickly and why they remain very
important in countries and regions where meat remains, or historically was, a very small portion of
the diet (Asia, the Caribbean, Africa and India).
However, you don t have to have a subsistence diet to be a vegetarian, far from it. But the rules of
the subsistence diet remains in terms of eating a healthy vegetarian diet. Mix grains and beans or
mushrooms to ensure you get all the necessary dietary proteins. Add nuts for proteins and essential
oils and ensure you have plenty of vitamin C in the diet. Beyond these basic rules what you eat is
very much limited only by your own imagination and the number of ingredients you have to hand.
Here, however, are some classic vegetarian dishes to get your

The Horse Dealer s Daughter And The Lighthouse
While it is not a stretch to imagine how women were treated and how passive a role they played
in their own lives, stories featuring women who were not afraid to control their own lives and
talk hold of their own destiny might have influenced those who pushed for independence. Stories
like The Horse Dealer s Daughter and To The Lighthouse possibly gave inspiration to women
fighting to control their own lives. Mabel in The Horse Dealer s Daughter and Lily in To The
Lighthouse have very different ideas about where their self worth comes from and it directly
reflects on how they live their lives. When The Horse Dealer s Daughter and To The Lighthouse
were written, women were fighting fiercely for the right to vote. When To The Lighthouse was
published, womanhad gained that right, but it was not common or even accepted for a woman to
be an independent, unmarried woman. The Horse Dealer s Daughter shows us the anxiety of
Mabel, a woman who has no prospects for marriagewho see her only choices as being a spinster or
suicide. She is rescued by Dr. Ferguson after submerging herself into a pond. Her attitude of
being a passive guest in her own life are strongly disputed in Some Men s Daughters by Sandra

Justinian Influence On Julius Caesar
In Roman history, there are many names known to the masses, Caesar, Augustus, Mark Antony.
But there is another name that people ought to know he is arguably one of the greatest Roman
emperors to ever live and his name was Justinian. Justinian was born Flavius Petrus Sabbatius a
peasant from western Rome. To understand how a peasant like young Flavius went from peasant
to emperor it is imperative to take a look at his uncle, Justin. Justin as a young man moved to
Rome and joined the army and joined the palace guard eventually being appointed the head of the
palace guard and bringing his family to Rome. After the emperor died Justin bribed the Senate to
support his bid for emperor and because he was head of the palace guard that meant that he was
the only one with the support of the Senate and with troops in Rome. Under Justin, Justinian played

holdings in the area coming as liberators, not conquerors. For his actions, Belisarius was given a
triumph an honor that had not been given to a non royal in 400 years. Sadly this would be the last

The Importance Of Heat Waves In Southern California
Normal summer conditions in Southern California are dry, often with extreme heat and low
humidity level of sixty percent. California has been in a cycle of intense heat, drought, and high fire

Cooling shelters include not only providing access to public cooling spaces, but also encouraging
the utilization of such resources by the homeless. Some cooling spaces include churches,
restaurants, shopping malls, and public libraries. Access to air conditioning can greatly decrease
heat related illnesses and deaths in the vulnerable populations (Eisenman, 2016). This is critical
because there is an association between increase in temperature and cardiovascular mortality
(Eisenman, 2016). This published study showed a negative relationship between heat related
mortality and access to cooling shelters.
It is part of public health nursing to promote prevention. Prevention is essential to prevent heat
illnesses and deaths. Although heat waves cannot be prevented, they can be predicted. Because of
their predictability, their impact on society can be lessesned. It is important to educate the
population regarding ways to protect themselves and prevent themselves during heat waves.
Based on the research provided, it is obvious that the physical health of homeless individuals is
considered a public health issue. With this in mind, the community project was created to provide
resources for the homeless population to prevent heat injury. This paper will

Essay about The Shattered Dream of Communism
Many people all over the world look for an outlet for which they can improve their quality of life.
They strive to find the means of transforming their dreams into reality. Communism, to people
everywhere, has offered the means for transforming the dream of economic equality into reality,
throughout history. Communism, however, like various other political and economic movements in
the history of man, has become just another shattered dream. Communism is a political and
economic movement brought out to the public in the mid nineteenth century. The communist s
main demand is the abolition of private property, which in turn will put an end to any present class
system. This is undoubtedly the shortest and most significant way to... Show more content on

Their victory only comes from the union of the proletarians, which is helped by the
improvement of communications created by the modern industry (Marx 46). There haven t
always been proletarians, though. They originated in the industrial revolution of England in the
last half of the eighteenth century (Engels). The first industrial revolution began in Britain
around 1750. It was during this time that many people turned to industry rather than farming to
make a living (Wilkinson 70). Friedrich Engels often compared the average proletariat to a slave
except one aspect. The slave is sold once and for all; the proletarian must sell himself daily and
hourly (Engels). The opposite class of the proletariat was the bourgeois. This was considered the
modern capitalist class. According to Marx and Engels they were the owners of the means of
social production and employers of wage labor (34). The bourgeois, in other words, were the
employers; the business men who sat around while their employees worked painstaking hours.
Now the capitalists, who have always been the opposing party of the communists, was the
political power. In the Communist Manifesto Marx and Engels state political power as merely the
organized power of one class for oppressing another (61). As the industrial revolution went on and
became an international revolution, more factories were built and the two classes of people
emerged; the huge army of working class people (or

Public Libraries Should Not Block Internet Pornography
Since the internet has been available in schools and libraries in this country, there has been a debate
about what should be accessible to users, especially minors. The amount of information
disseminated on the world wide web is vast, with some sources valuable for scholarly and personal
research and entertainment, and some sources that contain material that is objectionable to some
(ie. pornography, gambling, hate groups sites, violent materials). Some information potentially

Plaintiffs claimed that constitutionally protected materials were wrongly blocked and that the
Loudoun Policy violated their First Amendment rights. The court agreed and found the Loudoun
Policy of filtering for all patrons unconstitutional. The court held that there were less restrictive
means available to achieve the privacy level demanded by the Loudoun County community than
interfering with free speech. Less restrictive, in the court s opinion, were privacy screens for
computer monitors and a certain degree of physical monitoring by library staff.
Congress made an attempt to place content based restrictions on school and public library internet
use in the Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) of 2000. This act requires the use of some
type of internet filtering software for all public libraries that attain funds from the Federal
government (in the form of E rate discounts or Library Services and Technology Act grants).
Should a library refuse to comply with CIPA guidelines, that library would have to maintain its
technological services without the government discount or LSTA grants. Holding to the CIPA
guidelines, both the E rate and LSTA stipulate that filters may be disabled or legitimate sites
unblocked by adults who request it, but it is unclear whether libraries must provide for such
disabling (Anten 79).
After CIPA was passed, it was immediately challenged by the

Early African Civilization Dbq
The early civilizations of Africa were different in many of their cultural traits. One common trait
they did have in common was the importance of trade in their society. Although trade was good
for the African civilizations, there was consequences that followed trading. I will be using
documents B, F, and D to support how early African civilizations had consequences from trading.
In document B it states that, The door of the pavilion is guarded by dogs on an excellent breed...
who wear collars of gold and silver, this quote helps support the idea that Ghana had lots of gold
and wealth. One of the consequences of trading was wealth and power. Wealth and power was a
positive consequence that would help a early African civilization prosper. Wealth and power of
Ghana included having golden swords, trappings, and braiding. This is why document B helps
support the idea that early African civilizations had consequences from trading. Document F is a
map that shows the West African trade network. A consequence of trade from document F is
exploitation. Some examples are: in the civilization of Elmina, they were near salt, gold, slaves,
and ivory. These are the things that Elmina traded with others and how they prospered. In Benin,

Perils Of Totalitarianism In 1984 By George Orwell
Freedom having the right to act, speak or think as one wants. Over time, people in power have
challenged this concept of freedom, through the establishment of a perfect totalitarian society which
includes a government system which is dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state.
Both George Orwells novel 1984, and Kurt Wimmer s Si Fi thriller Equilibrium were written with
the purpose of warning readers of the dangers of totalitarian governments. Through reference to
symbolism, setting and character it is evident that, when acted on, the perils of totalitarian control
deplete the physical and emotional strength of individuals in society. In the novel 1984, Orwell has
cleverly incorporated symbolism in order to warn readers about the perils of a totalitarian... Show

ABSTRACT
Our class designed an experiment in order to test the ability of the enzyme cellobiase to break down
cellobiose, in order to produce p nitrophenol when certain factors were changed including
temperature, pH, and inhibitor concentration as well as a change in concentration in the enzyme and
substrate. A baseline experiment was established and absorbances were taken in order to determine
the concentration of p nitrophenol in each scenario. We then took these calculations in order to then
calculate Vo, inhibitor, enzyme and substrate concentration to produce a graph.

Cultural Value of Food as Represented in Advertisements for Dr. Pepper
Yulisa Garcia, Vanessa Rodriguez, Erika Garcia

Abstract
In this rhetorical analysis, the value of uniqueness and the use of flavors are expressed in an ad
by Dr. Pepper, a well known and popular company. These values are found within the appeals of
logos, pathos, and ethos. It also states the history of how this soft drink was created, the creator, and
the year it was created. Logos is expressed when the brand states that it contains 23 flavors and
also includes an image of a bottle with the number 23 as well with other phrases. Pathos is used in

First was logos, a tool which helps the audience to trust a publication based on its facts. It uses real
information to support the use of logic. Next was pathos, which appeals to the emotions or what
people are feeling. It connects with the audience by showing or interpreting something the audience
relates to or shows interest in. Lastly, ethos is to what extent the audience trusts an author by
relying on their word and reputation. The author s credentials support what they are trying to
convey or the message they are trying to send to the audience about an ad or announcement.
Historical Context
Created, manufactured, and sold as a unique flavor, Dr. Pepper is the oldest in soft drinks in
American history. Charles Alderton, the creator of Dr. Pepper in 1885, was a pharmacist at
Morrison s Old Corner Drug Store, in the small town of Waco, Texas, where he was in charge of
giving medication to the people in Waco. In his free time, he liked to work at the soda fountain
where he would serve carbonated drinks.
His greatest invention came from the idea of the smell of the different kind of fruit syrups, and
the smell of the drug store he worked in. After giving a sample test of his new drink to the owner
of the drug store, and him liking the taste of it, Alderton gave his invention a greater opportunity to
expand by offering it at the soda fountain. His creation of this soft drink was exceptional, like no
other drink, making other soda fountain operators

The California Wetlands Essay
The California Wetlands
Smelly, insect infested, and disease ridden are many words that people have used to describe the
attributes of wetlands in our country. Until recently it was thought that wetlands served very little
use as a part of our ecosystem. However, as the developers began to drain and destroy these
wetlands in order to build housing developments and commercial buildings environmental scientists
emerged from the woodwork. These environmental scientists found the value and absolute necessity
for wetlands and brought it to the attention of politicians. The politicians are the only ones who

A major function of wetlands is that they naturally clean the table waters. With the use of
microorganisms it is possible to naturally clean the water supply much better than many water
purification plants. A benefit of purifying water with the use of wetlands is that not only does it
save the taxpayers money but it also saves the environment from the pollution that a water
purification plant would produce. Another function of wetlands is its storage ability. In the
event of a large storm or heavy rain wetlands can store the floodwaters so that they do not over
run the near by area. To reduce the effects of flooding wetlands are able to store stormwater and
gradually returning it to surface flow, reducing the effects of erosion by stabilizing soils, and
dampening the effects of wave action . M. Dennison et.al. 1993. Wetlands also provide a feeding
ground and habitat to many fish, waterfowl and other wildlife. Many endangered birds nest and
breed on the shores of wetlands and these habitats are crucial for their survival. The destruction of
wetlands has become a major problem, especially in California.
In the United States the destruction of wetlands had been enormous, however in the state of
California it has been estimated that nearly ninety three percent of the wetlands have been
destroyed. With profit producing coastal real estate the hungry pockets of California developers

Essay Thucydides Historical Method
Thucydides indicates that people are indiscriminate about the stories or accounts they are told. They
do not put them to the test. This is the case even with accounts that deal with their own country.
Thucydides uses the example of the murder of Hipparchus. The Athenians believe that Hipparchus
was a tyrant and was the ruler when he was killed by Harmodius and Aristogeiton. The fact of the
matter is, Thucydidessays, that it was Hipparchus older brother Hippias who was in power, not
Hipparchus. Hippias was the eldest son of Pisistratus, so he was the ruler of Athens, not Hippias,
who was younger, and not Thessalus, the third son of Pisistratus, who was also younger than
Hippias. As for Harmodius and Aristogeiton, they originally... Show more content on

He uses two examples to illustrate this, both of which deal with the Lacedaemonian kings. When
Thucydides uses the phrase Other Greeks , it is possible that he is referring to Greeks in general
and to the popular beliefs of the time, or he could be referring to Herodotus, who provided
erroneous information about Lacedaemonian kings. The misconceptions that Thucydides refers to
concerning the Lacedaemonian kings are, first, that the Lacedaemonian kings have two votes each,
and that they have a military unit called `Pitante never existed. Herodotus, in his account, said that
the Spartan kings had two votes each and he also referred to the Pitante unit. So Herodotus spread
false information, and could very well be the Other Greeks who have wrong opinions that
Thucydides refers to. The fact that these false beliefs are accepted as truth shows, according to
Thucydides, how ready people are to believe the first things that come to hand. Thucydides next
attacks the poets for spreading these false beliefs in their songs, and the prose writers, who have
also spread these false beliefs in their works. In their songs, the poets have embellished much,
Thucydides says, and what the prose writers have hammered together aims more to delight the ear
than to be true (Thucydides, 12). Thucydides notes that it is not possible to test the accounts of the
poets

Border Patrol Nation Essay
BORDER PATROL NATION
A nation without borders is not a nation. Today, every country is putting efforts to secure its borders
not only from terrorists and drugs smuggling, but also from the illegal immigration. All these
recurring activities have sparked the United States to secure its borders against illegal immigrants
and terrorism by creating a special department named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
DHS is headed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. After the terrorist attack of 9/11, terrorism
and illegal immigration were two striking issues for the DHS. To solve these issues, the Department
of Homeland Security further created two immigration enforcement agencies: U.S. Immigration and
Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in year 2003. The
United States has over seven thousand miles of border to cover each day. The US shares its
borders with Canada and Mexico. That s why the CBP was established to safeguard our borders
through the deployment of technology, personnel, and infrastructure. The US Border Patrol is the
most visible of DHS s agencies and is now touching majority of population than ever before. It has
increased its strength to more than 21,000 agents, up from 8,500 in 2001and 4,000 in 1994(17).
The primary function of the Border Patrol Agency is apprehension of terrorists, drug interdiction
and immigration enforcement. The book Border Patrol Nation by Todd Miller is a classic example

The exact origins of this honeycombed cake are unknown, but the story of its evolution from a
thin, crisp wafer to a thick, leavened cake, is a fascinating one. It is hard to imagine the waffle
without its iconic honeycombed surface, but in the beginning it probably started as a simple, flat
cake. The ancient Greeks cooked flat cakes, called obelios, between hot metal plates. As they
spread throughout medieval Europe, the cakes made from a mixture of flour, water or milk, and
sometimes eggs became known as wafers and were also cooked over an open fire between iron
plates with long handles. At some point, perhaps in the 13th century, these began to be stamped
with various designs ranging from family crests and landscape scenes to the characteristic grid
pattern. The Dutch were particularly fond of waffles and colonists introduced them to the New
World in the early 17th century. (It was in the New World that these cakes met their perfect
companion, maple syrup.) By 1735, the word gained an extra f, becoming waffle as we know it
today. Thomas Jefferson is said to have brought the first long handled waffle iron to America in
1789. About 80 years later, New York s Cornelius Swarthout patented the first stovetop waffle iron.

Machiavellian Folly in The Prince Essay
Machiavellian Folly in The Prince
In the annals of history, many individuals have contributed great works of literature, waxing
philosophically on the meaning of life, death, and love. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote not on love or
life, but on power: How to capture it, how to consolidate it, and how to defend it against all
comers. His work has been talked about and dissected to the extent that his subject matter and
methods have earned their own moniker: Machiavellian. Nonetheless, this great philosopher s
works did not meet with unanimous approval. His own student, Thomas Hobbes, presented a very
different account of politics. This essay offers a Hobbesian critique of some of Machiavelli s
arguments, focusing in and around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 Humans, according to Machiavelli, are not the morally grounded beings the Bible espouses them
to be. He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men: that they are ungrateful,
fickle, pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger, eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli
argues that man is precarious a being of dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with
this analysis, and took it one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and
perpetual desire for power, which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be satisfied
with the power he has. Hobbes writes:
... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present, without the
acquisition of more [power].
Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason dictate that he will
do this by any means necessary even if it means killing everyone around him. Critics argue that
Hobbes and Machiavelli are too pessimistic; but they would both beg to differ. To both Hobbes
and Machiavelli, Aristotelian virtue is a deception; it can never be reached. Men do not want to be
good; they want to lie, they want to cheat, and they want to kill. To expect otherwise would be
contrary to their hostile nature. To both Hobbes and Machiavelli, political analysis must begin by
identifying the human being for what he really is a self interested, self seeking

The Story behind Diamonds
Diamonds are one of the most popular minerals in the world and yet people are not aware of the
circumstances it takes to acquire this such unique mineral. Many people would agree when I say
that this mineral is such a nice thing to look at, but few people actually know what it is made of
and how it was formed. These precious minerals are composed of Carbon. The process to making
this immaculate mineral is as following. First, you must bury Carbon dioxide deep into the earth;
approximately, 100 miles deep. Second, you must heat the substance at a temperature of 2,200
degrees fahrenheit. Next, squeeze or tightly compact the substance under pressure of 725,000
pounds per square inch. Finally, it must quickly rush to the earths surface to cool off. All this must
be done just to create diamond. Luckily for some men, scientist have created an alternative of the
mined diamonds, it is a synthetic diamond composed of the same things and look almost
identical. So if you re planning to pop the big question soon you have options with that part of the
proposal. When you think of the price of real diamonds you might think that they are pretty
expensive and what makes them so special. Along with its looks, it is a rare mineral that still has a

Twenty years later, the Lindy Hop, a dance where the partner is swung into the air, seemed like a

Music Changed to be more upbeat, and it had a much faster tempo. These changes sculpted
people to be less formal than they were. Surrealism was a major part of art in the 1920s. People
used surrealism to express their selves. Salvador Dali is a major surreal artist and is mostly

The Negative Effects of Using Tanning Salons
Tall, fit, and tan... Sounds attractive? It is not to rare to encounter young teenage girls who s aims
are to achieve this perfect image. These looks are popularized through stars, models, and individuals
that the younger population look up to. Enforcing insecurity amongst teens, advertisements portray
these ultimate, beautiful, natural looks. However, what they do not portray is the time, effort, and
health risks involved. Unfortunately these teens do not take into consideration the harsh
circumstances that these procedures consist of. In other words, they are not aware of the after
affects that will alter their health along with their image. A large part of the population of the
United States including men and women, teenage or adult, are insecure about their body image.
They re not lying when they say, Beauty is Pain. Many of these treatments and procedures people
undergo drastically change the look of their image. Given all these considerations the use of indoor
tanning salons has been a controversial topic to many people. The essential question is, should a
federal ban against the use of tanning salons by minors be enacted? Absolutely yes, minors should
not be able to use the amenities of tanning salons due to the long term affects that will disturb their
well being. The negative effects of using tanning salons do not overcompensate the temporary look
enhancement. A shocking article titled Alarming Find: 29% of High School Girls Use Tanning

Focus By Daniel Goleman
Whether or not society recognizes it, there is a gravitational pull amongst all, towards technology.
Within that pull, lies the loss of an ability to focus and to connect with one another. Close
friendships fade, romantic relationships dissolve, and family dynamics dim. At the root of the
heartaches, lies technology whether it be cellphones, laptops, television, or tablets. In Daniel
Goleman s book, Focus, he examines the the correlation and causation of technology and the effects
it has on the human brain. Goleman spends plenty of time discussing the lack of human connection
being resulted in the era of technology and how it effects individuals. As one of those individuals,
Goleman s writing reflected my own life with technology. As an 18... Show more content on

Now, I will be the first to admit, technology has made my life easier in every possible way. There
is no longer a need to spend several hours reading books for a research paper, to pull out the
phone book to search for someone s contact information, or to spend time calling someone. For
that, I am truly grateful yet, I have noticed my self being confused in every day situation when I
don t have my phone with me. For example, in my hometown, I went driving alone and ended up
lost without my phone. My dad, being the genius he is, made sure to equip my car with a few
maps in case anything were to happen. I, being the smartphone dependent teen that I am, had no
idea how to use a map. Needless to say, I spent hours driving around aimlessly until I caught sight
of familiar signs. To this day, I am still unable to use a map correctly. At the end of the day, the
issue of technology and the effect it has on our daily lives is prevalent and every growing in
everyone s life. Perhaps if people, including myself, started treating people the way they do their
phones: with care, patience, and absolute attention, this world would be a more observant and
attentive place. What a jarring idea but completely

Baseball As A National Pastime
Mary McGrory, an American journalist, writes, Baseball is what we were, and football is what we
have become ( Brainy Quotes ). Baseball is out and football is in. Only 27% of kids from ages 9 13
play baseball in the world today. There is no longer Take me out to the ball game, but let me watch
the game on my TV. Baseballas a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity
because of the increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and
length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports
other than baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and
the average game attendance. Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the
statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For
example, the Dallas Cowboys stadiumis the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus
20,000 standing. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest
stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ( ESPN ). These stats show the increase in popularity of
football compared to the decrease of popularity of baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have
demand for more seating because of the number of tickets sold per game. The average game
attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys
sell an average of 92,867 tickets per game. On the other hand,

Protecting Ip And The Ethical Issues Related
In a world where innovation, technology, and the digital age is moving at such a rapid rate,
Intellectual Property (IP) becomes a hot button across business, law and ethics. In like manner,
the complications with protecting and managing IP increases. The demand on IP policy has
grown from the need to protect a simple invention, such as a light bulb, to the need to protect an
idea, a slogan, or even a gene (i.e. biotech). To further complicate things, IP protections are no
longer just in the interest of preserving a trade secret; it is now focused on monetary gains,
economic strength and a means for businesses to compete. One can only imagine how complex the
issues can become when focused on so many issues. This paper will discuss why... Show more

By striking the right balance between the interests of innovators and the wider public interest, the
IP system aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish.
Therefore, IP is a critical piece of our country s economic development, social and cultural welfare.
Enforcement of these protections are relied upon in many industries, scientists and not to mention,
many artists. It helps to foster competition, betterment, creativity and innovation. In addition, the
American consumer benefits as IP ensures they are purchasing products that are safe and
effective. Given these points, there is no doubt that IP rights must be protected in order for the
U.S. to continue to be productive. One key reason protecting IP is important is its impact on the
U.S. job market. IP industries put forty million Americans to work and it is expected that as
technology continues to advance, those industries will continue to grow and do so rapidly. This
is expected to happen not just in the U.S., but globally. In addition, IP intensive positions tend to
pay higher salaries averaging about $50,576 per employee in comparison to the national average
of $38,768. (U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 2016) IP is also a key aspect of the overall U.S.
Economy. With IP intensive industries accounting for more than one third of the U.S. GDP, it has
become key to the country s economic growth. Currently, U.S. IP is worth $5.8 trillion, more than

Evaluation Of My Second Critique
For my second critique, I will be writing about a production that was not a play or musical
(therefore, my third critique will be on a play/musical). The production that I have chosen to write
about for my second critique was performed at my former high school, Tallulah Falls School. At my
high school, a whole week is dedicated to recognize our international students and the nations from
which they come from. During this time, international students teach the American students about
their culture and customs. On the final day, the international students give demonstrations that help
continue our education about their homes. This was always one of my favorite events to attend

A lot of stepping was involved as was the use of clapping. There was also a significant amount of
jumping. The dance felt both rustic and lively overall. Japan s performance, on the other hand, was
more of a slow paced routine. However, this did not make Japan s performance any less
entertaining. The four young women came out wearing what appeared to be shortened kimonos
and traditional fans in their hands. They stood in a line with one behind the other. Once the music
commenced, their arms extended out towards the audience. The Japanese students began to
execute a mesmerizing dance. The long sleeves on their kimonos made them seem as though
they were not spinning or waving, but flying. At other times it made it look as if they were
moving in slow motion. Their fans only added to this effect. They were also able to slide around
in between each other with brilliant ease. Also, I enjoyed the music of Japan s performance; the
dancers danced to a Japanese Enka (folk) song. This only reinforced tone and traditional feel to the
piece.
South Korea s performance began the performance with one of the Koreans singing a traditional
Korean song. The song was slow, sentimental, and heartfelt. By the end of the song, some audience
members had tears in their eyes. A few moments after the song concluded, approximately eight
Korean female students walked onto the stage in modern dress a stark contrast to the traditional

Inka Empire Dbq
Genghis Khan, a man who conquered and ruled the largest continuous empire in history of
mankind, was once told Conquering the world on horseback is easy; it is dismounting and
governing that is hard. Many kings and warriors were able to conquer vast lands in history but
only a few were able to hold that power for a long period of times. The ones who implemented
successful strategies in order to expand, consolidate and administer their rule over land were the
most successful in holding power. Aztec empire is a perfect example of this. The arrival of Nahuatl
speaking populations in central Mexico during the twelfth century CE, known as the Aztlan
migrations, marked the beginning of Aztec Culture. (Smith, 133). Small independent city states...

Inkas established state religion and secular institutions, such as priesthood of the sun, priestesses
of the moon, and the military leadership . (D Altroy, 209). The Kings and military leaders were
often appointed these titles, making them god like deities in the eyes of public. This strategy
made general public trust and fear the empire and reduce rebellions as it was seen as a rebellion
against the chosen ones and thus the gods. Furthermore, Inkas established a system of tributes in
form of taxes where provinces provided resources to the capital.Tributes were often collected in the
form of household tributes in a hierarchical process where household heads were responsible to
village headmen who reported to lords and so on until it reached the capital. (Morris, 64). In order
to establish a smooth tribute system, the Inkas built a royal highway system. This made
transportation of goods and army throughout the empire easier than it had ever been before thus
strengthening their control and making the transportation goods from the provinces to the Cuzco

The Great Mosque Of Cordoba
The Mishrab of The Great Mosque of Cordoba
Assignment Two
The Great Mosque of Cordoba [named in espaГ±ol Mezquita Catedral de CГіrdoba] is a complex
site of extraordinarily rich history and key development in Muslim architecture in a Western empire.
Built in the Spanish capitals of the Umayyad, it is one of the oldest structures from the times of
Muslim rule over Iberia in the 8th century, the Great Mosque of Cordoba is a heritage site having
lived through tremendous successions of change, development and expansions surviving through
ages of conflict in religious, political and military events.
The mosque can be interpreted as a fruit of the works of Umayyad and Byzantine artisans, and
with close reading of the dГ©cor and art executed in the focal point of the mihrab and associated

First Amendment and Right to Privacy
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and the first right guaranteed by the Bill
of Rights, declares that there will be no law made respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the
right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of
grievances (First Amendment, n.d.). An individual s right to privacy is not guaranteed in the
United StatesConstitution or the Bill of Rights, however, there have been amendments created that
seek to protect specific and private rights individuals. Even so, there are limitations to what type of
freedoms are protected under the First Amendment and to what extent an individual s privacy is
protected. To begin with, there are three types of speech that are not protected by the First
Amendment: obscenity, libel, and slander. Obscenity is anything which depraves or corrupts minds
open to immoral influence (Freedom of Speech, 2003). Despite the fact that the definition of
obscenity has changed throughout the years, Congress, in general, has reached a consensus in
determining that obscenity covers anything that is directed towards or involves youths, including
child pornography. For example, in 1949, the Supreme Court upheld, in Rosenberg v. Board of
Education of City of New York, that the Board of Education did not have the right to ban schools
from carrying books such as Oliver Twist and The

Ford Of The Automobile Industry
Introduction
Ford was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated in June 16, 1903. Ford is famously known for
popularizing the assembly line with the production of the T Model Ford. In addition to the Ford
brand, the corporation also includes their luxury vehicle line Lincoln. From 1938 2011 Mercury
was also a part of the Ford fleet of cars. During the financial crisis of 2009, Ford was one of the
few American car companies that avoided bankruptcy. They have since grown to be the second
largest U.S. based car manufacturer, and the fifth largest in Europe.
Industry and Customer Value
The customer base for automobiles is diverse and has different requirements and desires for
automobiles. The auto industry has recognized these requirements and desires and manufactures
various models to accommodate the customers. Ford is a true innovator in the automobile industry.
They have made such headway mainly because they figured out to mass produce their cars quickly,
thereby making it affordable to the customer base. Ford has made great strides in rebranding what
value means to their customer. There are several factors that customers deem valuable when
selecting a Ford automobile:
Price Although Ford produces a range of affordable automobiles suitable for every customer, one
thing that Ford has done is officially lower the recommended price list on all of its medium and
small cars.
Dependability Ford has prided itself on the dependability of its cars. In an effort to

National Parks And National Resource Parks
Despite the talk of national parks and national resource parks, the main focus is the everyday
park. While I was sitting on the side of the Raritan River I thought to myself how interesting the
set up was. As I walked up there was a bench placed perfectly in this gap of trees that allowed you
to look out onto the reflecting water. The thingthat stuck out to me was the large abundance of
trees, but what would a parkbe without trees? They were perfectly aligned and created the perfect
picture frame around the water. It was peaceful despite the highway that you could see to the
right of your vision. The whole experience struck me as odd because it was the first time I
realized that so often it is the case that nature appears to be an afterthought to human needs. It
was not only here that I saw this, but also by the waterfront park by my house. When I was
younger the only thing down there was a little playground and now there is a bulkhead and
basketball courts. The thing that was enjoyable about the waterfront park was that nature was
slowly making its way back on top. The sand was building up over the little wooden fences and
the weeds grew wild. It was a positive show of nature s resilience. Granted the beach was altered
in recent years due to Super Storm Sandy, but it is appearing to even bouncing back from that. The
waterfront park provided context for what nature can do when left to fight back on its own, as
compared to the Buccleuch Park, which represented the typical

Causes Of The Missouri Compromise Of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 helped to mend the relationship between the north and south.
All the states in the Union were in an argument over what the new states should be free or slave
states. With the conflict steadily rising a congressman came up with a solution to alleviate the
tension. This compromise set the tone for the rest of the civil rights time period. It ended after
holding peace for a few decades. The Missouri Compromise of 1820 relieved the intensity of the
problems between free and slave states political power.

However, to balance out the political power, Maine, who had wanted to be its own state for some
time now, would be added as a free state. The second part of the compromise was that an
imaginary line would be drawn along the southern border of Missouri. This imaginary line would
become the dividing line between free and slave states in the North and South and be known as the
36В° 30В° line.
The North would not be allowed to have slaves, and the South would have slaves. Both sides were
okay with the Compromise because both sides benefitted from it. The Compromise was finally
approved by President James Monroe on March 6, 1820. The signing of this document change
slavery in the United States. The peace from this Compromise in the states lasted for nearly three
decades.
The Compromise of 1820 changed a lot of things about new states entering the Union. With
westward movement being such a big deal during this time frame, it created a few complications.
Starting out, in theory, it was a good idea. However, All the new states would be divided into 2
factions based on their beliefs on slavery. Where you lived determined what your view on slaves
and how you felt about slavery.
The Compromise only lasted a few decades before complications arose. At the start, a free state
was admitted for every slave state that was admitted, and vice versa. California violated this when
they were admitted as a free state in

Blame On Your Body, By Maria Menchu L Bravo
SHAME ON YOUR FAT BODY by Maria Menchu L. Bravo Did anyone of you thought how
words greatly affect a person s life? Words that we thought are just words, no harm can come
from just saying whatever you want. Have anyone of you heard the phrases like her body is flat
, I m so sorry for her because she s so fat , You need to lose weight and many more. It appears that
not only is it heard but read as well in magazines, newspapers and social media constantly
advocating How to lose weight in days and how to appear slimmer and hide the cellulites in your
body . This is just some of the multiple examples on how body shaming happens in our society.

Firstly we must understand that people have different body types and shapes, we are not created
differently in order for others to categorize us into something. We must stand up to those who
keeps on pinning us down, don t let anyone stop you from doing what you want. In 2012,
Jennifer Livingston, a local news anchor in Wisconsin, received a fat shaming email from a
viewer. She then said that there are children who don t know better. Who get emails as critical as
the one I received, or in many cases, even worse, each and every day. She said in her last
statement that is dedicated to everyone. Those who are lost and struggling with their weight,
color of the skin, sexual preference, disabilities and even the acnes on their faces that they
should not let bullies define their self worth. Stand up if you know you are right and didn t do
anything wrong. In order to completely stop body shaming everyone or the people in the society
must motivate, support and encourage one another. Just like what happened to Sean Dancing
Man O Brien, he was bullied in social media for dancing in public. Someone posted his picture
with the caption Spotted this specimen trying to dance the other week. He stopped when he saw
us laughing when the photo went viral the group of body positive women joined together and
created a dance party for him. 1,000 came and supported Sean. Body shaming will stop if people
will realize that there is no wrong in being too fat, too

  • 2. Spider-Man Is A Favourite Hero The World s Favourite Webslinger. Everyone has once wanted to be a superhero. Whether you grew out of it to play with basketballs and Barbie dolls or race cars; or if you still hope that one day you ll miraculously be able to fly and lift things three times your size that dream was still there. As kids, being able to save people and the world seems unlikely, yet because of figures that we had to look up to, we believed that nothing was really impossible. Spider Man is one of these said figures. Spider Man was created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee for Marvel comics in the sixties, but if you couldn t already tell by the countless reboots, Peter Parker s Spider Man is still one of Marvel s most popular superheroes to date. Peter Parker is a fifteen year old, who s just like anyone else. It just so happens that he got bit by a radioactive spider one day and his life changed immensely. He s incredibly smart and inventive, but when it all comes down to it: he s just a normal teenager who s struggling to find himself, let alone strategize how to defeat bad guys in his spare time when he doesn t have to worry about homework. Spider Man has been a superhero that has transcended through time as the underdog that resonates with people, providing those with the hope that anyone can be a hero and help out the little guy. Though he was created in 1962, Spider Man seems to never grow old or become outdated. He naturally wants to help people, to be someone who helps ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compulsory Heteronormativity Compulsory Heterosexuality Introduction In today s world, as humankind is still in progress, we have a much more liberated world compared to past. In terms of politics, we learned discrimination is not a honourable case to be involved in and we tried to minimize constraints reflected on other races, other nationalities, in short all of the others that are not similar to us . Us is, without doubt, white, Western man. Despite all the back drawed prejudices of others in the name of liberation, respect and equality, it does not seem to be the situation for non heteronormatives to live in a peaceful environment. Since I came to Amsterdam as an exchange student this term, I had the opportunity to experience daily life with all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the fact that compulsory heterosexuality is the central issue of homosexual argument s, there is limited work specifically concentrated on heteronormativity. Majority of the articles are about gay lesbian rights and inequalities in terms of citizenship rights. However, almost every article reflects the normality of homosexuality contradictory to heteronormative theory. All of them lay natural causes and reasons down on the table and accuse heteronormativity of being reproduction obsessed. Paper In this paper, my main argument is to reject the superiority of the normal heterosexual and to equalize the non heterosexual. So here is the question; what is normal? Who defines it? We have evidence that in the past, a long time ago, from the start of the first civilization, sex was a primary issue. Putting aside people s active sexual lives, homosexuality is known to be very common in Sumerians, Ancient Greek and Romans .(Heterosexuality). I do not mean to say that homosexuality was common than heterosexuality but even in story of Gilgamesh the hero is said to be in love with the man he needed to fight with. One other thing claiming the normality of non heterosexualism is the invention of terms . It was only 19th century the term homosexuality was invented, then followed by heterosexuality (Heterosexuality) . Bisexuality came later in 20th century to define people who do not have dominant choices for a sex partner. As it is seen even the terms are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Evaluation Of A Learning Organization Organizations that strive to excel in aspects of innovation, competitiveness, and performance must have clearly defined core values that are executed by specific learning disciplines (Senge, 2010). Giesecke and McNeil (2004) stated, A learning organization is an organization skilled at creating, acquiring, and transferring knowledgeand at modifying its behavior to reflect new knowledge and insights (p. 55). In the pursuit of defining specific practices that would produce an ideal learning organization, Senge (2008) proposes five disciplines that include, ...systems thinking, mental models, personal mastery, shared vision, and dialogue (p. 1). In this application paper I will analyze each of the five disciplines discussed by Senge (2008) and discuss how they can be applied in an organization such as the high schoolwhere I am currently teaching to address specific areas in need of improvement. The high school where I currently teach consists of twenty four hundred students from grades 10th through 12th. This school organization as many others is in the business of meeting educational challenges in the midst of innovative times in a noble attempt to prepare students academically for the demands of an ever changing and knowledge driven work environment. There are several key factors that I observe in our school that have in some way hindered our progress in becoming an ideal learning organization. First, our school depends on the collaborative and communication processes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Deconstructing of Forest and Woodland Introduction The definitions for the words forest and woodland are heterogeneous around the world and are circumscribed to each countryВґs structural stands in local eco regions. Countries as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Japan, Mexico or US, with a great diversity of climates and soil conditions attributable to their large land extensions and altitude gradients (Borja Jimenez et al. 2013), can be identified as territories with high variety of forests and woodlands. The great diversity and diffuse thresholds among ecosystems difficult construction of criteria for their classification into inventories and application of management and conservation policies. Box Fujiwara (2013) differentiate forests from woodlands: forest is an ecosystem dominated by tall trees, in a closed structure (considered closed when tree crowns are touching) and woodland is an ecosystem dominated by tall or short trees with an open distribution. The etymology of both words has different meanings according to the language. In Chinese, жЈ®жћ— (sД“nlГn), the first character, sД“n (also mori in Japanese) means tree , forest , dark , gloomy ; the second character, lГn, means forest , grove , thicket , wood . Differently, жћ—ењ° (lГndГ¬) means wood (first character) land (second character). It also means holt that means little forest . The word bosque in Spanish derives from the German word busch meaning bush , shrub , jungle . Different from English, in Spanish the terms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Religion is not something people blindly follow for the hope of reaching heaven. At one point or another in life, every person encounters the moment where they make the decision of being an active religious person, a religious person but don t attend church, or don t believe in a superior power. Whether a person chooses option one, two, or three, each choice brings consequences and a different life with that choice. People live a different kind of life, with different goals to reach, and what kind of life a person may want to live. Religion has a profound effect on people s daily lives, and the areas it affects are work life, family life, and the standards a person holds. Work Life It happens to everyone, people are at work (or school) and have a project due on Monday, but they see the clock ticking closer and closer to 5pm, and have that urge to slip out a few mins early so they can get ahead of schedule on ordering the wings and pizza and getting good movie tickets. The consequence of doing this is the person having to choose whether to finish the project on Saturday, Sunday, or if the person really wants to push it, Monday morning. So what option are you going to take? Work Smarter, Not Harder Full time committed religious people know the regular weekend schedule. Xizhao Liu(Amber) American Literature Essay #3 Nov. 11, 2016 Male love in The Things They Carried The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien is a fictional book consisting of different stories from Vietnam war. Tim O Brien was trying to convey the real perspectives of the war to his readers by telling facts and stories through his personal memories he got from the war, and how things effect them and their life after the war. In order to express the tension in the war, O Brien depicts the experience of the soldiers by showing the different ways of expression of male love from these soldiers. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place, the friendship in the war is the most unique one. As the definition of Friendship, Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. The bond between soldiers is more intense and real, and this is also the message that Tim O Brien shows in his book by using metaphor, details depicting and technique of repetition. Tim O Brien uses metaphor of photos to express the life before, tie all soldiers together, and thus show the friendship of them. The Thing They Carried is not only describing the life in the Vietnam war, but is more about the things that they carried, and the emotions and stories behind these things. All soldiers bring some small items, like comic books and hunting hatchets, which contain their memory from the past, to the war. My girl. What about her? The picture, it was ... • 16. Vegetarianism In Central And South America Vegetarianism is not a modern phenomenon. Indeed, as a lifestyle vegetarianism began with the Greek aesthetes and was subsequently adopted by many Romans who thought a frugal lifestyle to be beneficial to themselves and to the state. However, through much of human history people have relied on a mainly vegetarian diet to survive. The great civilizations of central and south America also had a predominantly vegetarian diet. This actually isn t as easy as it sounds, as the human body needs to source a number of proteins from the diet. Now, one way to ensure that these proteins are gained in adequate quantities is to combine grains and beans. This is why almost all cultures have their mix of the grain and bean staple either as part of their current cuisines or as parts of their historical cuisines. In Africa, historically this ... However, the fresh chilli fruit are also a good source of vitamin C which is critical in a vegetarian diet as it aids in the uptake of non haeme (ie non blood) iron into the body. This may well explain why chillies spread worldwide so quickly and why they remain very important in countries and regions where meat remains, or historically was, a very small portion of the diet (Asia, the Caribbean, Africa and India). However, you don t have to have a subsistence diet to be a vegetarian, far from it. But the rules of the subsistence diet remains in terms of eating a healthy vegetarian diet. Stories like The Horse Dealer s Daughter and To The Lighthouse possibly gave inspiration to women fighting to control their own lives. Mabel in The Horse Dealer s Daughter and Lily in To The Lighthouse have very different ideas about where their self worth comes from and it directly reflects on how they live their lives. When To The Lighthouse was published, womanhad gained that right, but it was not common or even accepted for a woman to be an independent, unmarried woman. The Horse Dealer s Daughter shows us the anxiety of Mabel, a woman who has no prospects for marriagewho see her only choices as being a spinster or suicide. There haven t always been proletarians, though. They originated in the industrial revolution of England in the last half of the eighteenth century (Engels). The first industrial revolution began in Britain around 1750. It was during this time that many people turned to industry rather than farming to make a living (Wilkinson 70). Friedrich Engels often compared the average proletariat to a slave except one aspect. The slave is sold once and for all; the proletarian must sell himself daily and hourly (Engels). The opposite class of the proletariat was the bourgeois. This was considered the modern capitalist class. According to Marx and Engels they were the owners of the means of social production and employers of wage labor (34). This is the case even with accounts that deal with their own country. Thucydides uses the example of the murder of Hipparchus. The Athenians believe that Hipparchus was a tyrant and was the ruler when he was killed by Harmodius and Aristogeiton. The fact of the matter is, Thucydidessays, that it was Hipparchus older brother Hippias who was in power, not Hipparchus. When Thucydides uses the phrase Other Greeks , it is possible that he is referring to Greeks in general and to the popular beliefs of the time, or he could be referring to Herodotus, who provided erroneous information about Lacedaemonian kings. The misconceptions that Thucydides refers to concerning the Lacedaemonian kings are, first, that the Lacedaemonian kings have two votes each, and that they have a military unit called `Pitante never existed. Herodotus, in his account, said that the Spartan kings had two votes each and he also referred to the Pitante unit. So Herodotus spread false information, and could very well be the Other Greeks who have wrong opinions that Thucydides refers to. Thucydides next attacks the poets for spreading these false beliefs in their songs, and the prose writers, who have also spread these false beliefs in their works. The Dutch were particularly fond of waffles and colonists introduced them to the New World in the early 17th century. (It was in the New World that these cakes met their perfect companion, maple syrup.) By 1735, the word gained an extra f, becoming waffle as we know it today. Thomas Jefferson is said to have brought the first long handled waffle iron to America in 1789. About 80 years later, New York s Cornelius Swarthout patented the first stovetop waffle iron. Waffle cones for ice cream debuted at the 1904 World s Fair in St. Louis. On the home front, the old stovetop waffle irons were outfitted for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Machiavellian Folly in The Prince Essay Machiavellian Folly in The Prince In the annals of history, many individuals have contributed great works of literature, waxing philosophically on the meaning of life, death, and love. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote not on love or life, but on power: How to capture it, how to consolidate it, and how to defend it against all comers. His work has been talked about and dissected to the extent that his subject matter and methods have earned their own moniker: Machiavellian. Nonetheless, this great philosopher s works did not meet with unanimous approval. His own student, Thomas Hobbes, presented a very different account of politics. He writes in The Prince: For one can say this generally of men: that they are ungrateful, fickle, pretenders and dissemblers, evaders of danger, eager for gain.3 Clearly, Machiavelli argues that man is precarious a being of dubious morals and selfish desires. Hobbes agreed with this analysis, and took it one step further. According to Hobbes, all mankind has a restless and perpetual desire for power, which ceaseth only with death 4. Moreover, man can never be satisfied with the power he has. Hobbes writes: ... [man] cannot assure the power and the means to live well, which he hath present, without the acquisition of more [power]. Man s first need is to provide security for himself. Past experience and reason dictate that he will do this by any means necessary even if it means killing everyone around him. Critics argue that Hobbes and Machiavelli are too pessimistic; but they would both beg to differ. To both Hobbes and Machiavelli, Aristotelian virtue is a deception; it can never be reached. Men do not want to be good; they want to lie, they want to cheat, and they want to kill. To expect otherwise would be contrary to their hostile nature.
