The Black Lives Matter Of African Americans Essay
Everyone has now heard of the term Black Lives Matter . It is a movement that has started in effort to
help the oppression of African Americans. It started a few years back after a major incident happened
in the United States. Following this incident, the movement has had to become even more dominate
because of the senseless killings and mistreatment of African Americans. This unfortunate incident
started the movement that is now to help defend of the lives of African Americans. The Black Lives
Matter Movement started after the killing of seventeen year old Trayvon Martin. He was shot and
killed because a neighborhood watch felt as though he was a threat to the neighborhood. The only
weapon was a bag of skittles and a can of tea. George Zimmerman was instructed to stay in his vehicle
after he saw someone suspicious walking in the neighborhood. Mr. Zimmerman disregarded what the
person from dispatch told him and got out of his vehicle to follow the young teenager. Moments later
shots were fired. Zimmerman never denies shooting Trayvon and claimed it was in self defense. In his
defense, he was bleeding from both his nose and the back of his head. At first, there was no arrest
made because his story seemed to be legitimate. But then Zimmerman is charged with second degree
murder. He turned himself in was later bonded out the same day. Then he enters a written plea and
waves his right to appear at his own arraignment. In the months following there was a lot of events

Classicalism vs. Positivism
Classicalism vs. Positivism What is crime? What makes people commit crimes and how can we stop
it? These, and many other questions similar to these, are asked by criminologists everyday.
Criminology is an ever growing field, mainly because there is more and more research occurring and
new theories linking people and crime coming out everyday. Below the main field of criminology
there are many subfields that have different theories and philosophies on what they believe link
criminal behavior. Two of the main criminology perspectives are Classical Criminology and Positivist
Criminology. Although these two are both studied in the criminology field, their views are distinctly
contradictory from each other. These two theories and many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Yet another criticism is their belief in deterrence. Research has shown that there is little correlation
between punishment and crime, meaning that there is not a significant amount of information showing
that deterrence actually works leading it into a controversial issue. People commit crimes for many
different reasons that classicalists fail to acknowledge. Classical criminology was the first big step into
what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in
the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the
classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the
nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and
analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or
reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm
21). Positivism has two main elements: One is the belief that human behavior is a function of forces
beyond a person s control [and] the second aspect of positivism is embracing the scientific method to
solve problems (Siegel 7 8). . Positivism is known for the use of science and the scientific method in
their research. Positivists such as Lombroso, whom is considered the father of criminology, set the
stage for examination of external forces

Essay on New Albany Shale
Illinois Basin Structure
The Illinois Basin lies across Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, and it has a oval like structural
depression in southeastern Illinois. The Illinois Basin is classified as an intracratonic basin (Bois and
Pelet 1982). The Illinois Basin began as a rift complex which eventually failed, the New Madrid fault
is associated with this rifting (Hasenmueller and Comer 1994). The depositional thickness of the New
Albany Shale was strongly affected by the regional down warping in southeastern Illinois (Lineback
1980). The Illinois basin is separated from the Michigan basin by the Kankakee arch, which is located
primarily in Indiana (Nelson 1995). To the South East lies the Cincinnati arch (Nelson 1995). In

Genevieve Fault Zone (Hasenmueller and Comer 1994). During the Devonian while the New Albany
Shale was being deposited, the Sangamon Arch was active causing the New Albany Shale to thin out
(Hasenmueller and Comer 1994). The Media Anticline was also active during the time of deposition,
this can be seen by the thinning across the structure while there is no thinning on older strata
(Hasenmueller and Comer 1994). The Mount Carmel Fault is a normal fault that trends northwest and
has seismic data that indicates it reaches the basement (Hasenmueller and Comer 1994).

Cultural Universals
Matthew M. Le Claire
University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Department of Sociology
Matthew M. Le Claire received his Bachelor and Master?s degrees in criminal justice from the
University of Nevada, Reno. Currently he is working towards his Ph.D. in sociology at the University
of Nevada, Las Vegas, where his areas of specialization are crime, deviance, and culture.
Culture itself is a complex topic with multiple definitions ranging from the organic to the mechanical,
the natural to the manufactured. In a world composed of different groups, we see many variations of
culture. Cultural universals are traits, patterns, and elements that transcend specific groups and can be
applied to all known cultures (Macionis 2014). This idea implies that mankind and its multiple
cultures are interconnected by patterns of fulfilling human needs that occur on a global scale. Specific
examples of cultural universals extend from medicine to the family unit. Though anthropologists and
sociologists have found support for the existence of cultural universals, the idea of these universal
aspects of culture still draw criticism from critical and postmodern scholars and by individuals who
ascertain cultural universals are in a natural state of opposition with cultural relativism.
Framework The idea of cultural universals is rooted in positivist traditions of biology and psychology,
as well as structural functionalism. While comparative studies of culture examine differences,

Essay about Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes To Yellow Sky
Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky
Stephen Crane s The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky, as well as his other Western stories, owe much to
Mark Twain s approach to the West. According to Eric Solomon, both authors...used humor to
comment on the flaws of traditional fictional processes (237). While employing parody of the Western
literary tradition, Crane also uses realism to depict the influence of the East on the West. In The Bride
Comes to Yellow Sky, Stephen Crane uses symbolism to develop his study of the changes effected on
the West and the roles of its inhabitants by the encroachment of eastern society.

Potter is embarrassed in the great eastern train car. He is not accustomed to the fancy Victorian
environment, and neither is his wife. Potter is also worried about the act of his marriage itself. He felt
the shadow of a deed weigh upon him like a leaden slab. He, the town marshal of Yellow Sky, a man
known, liked, and feared in his corner... [had married] without consulting Yellow Sky for any part of
the transaction (Crane 403). Potter had defiled the idea of the Marshal, a figure fearsome and
independent (Solomon 252). Potter also ignored the Western tradition of partnership and consulting
one s friends before marriage. He has told no one and is quietly attempting to sneak his bride back into
town. This bride is the catalyst of change that is sure to wreak havoc on the social structure of Yellow
Sky, and Potter knows it.
Potter s opposite, Scratchy Wilson cannot face his own two roles (Solomon 252). Where Potter has
realized and is attempting to accept his new role, Scratchy will do nothing of the kind. Scratchy is the
town s drunken bum. The occupants of the town are terrified as he rages up and down the street.
Scratchy is, however, almost comical in his decorative shirt and fancy boots. Though he isn t
conscious of it, these are a symbol of the East s encroachment on Scratchy. His shirt was made

Similarities Between Night And The Breakaway
Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, and Karen Hesse the author of Debts display many similarities
throughout their work. Each author s use of imagery and the tones they convey allow the reader to
understand how each character gets over their conflicts with optimism. In the novel Night by Elie
Wiesel and the short story The Breakaway, by an unknown author the two author s use of imagery is
similar because they both show how the characters overcome their conflicts with hope. An example of
this similarity in Night is when the author states that We breathed in air filled with fire and smoke, and
our eyes shone with hope. . The imagery shows that they had hope in their eyes, which helps create
emotion that the reader feels about the character. An example of this in the short story is when the
author said By the time he got to senior year in high school, his GPA was hovering in the slam dunk
position . The imagery the unknown author uses makes the reader understand that even though he was

An example of this difference in Night is when the author said that One more stab to the heart, one
more reason to hate. One less reason to live . This tone conveys a throw in the towel attitude toward

things give him less hope to live. An example of perseverance in the short story is when the author
states that So, while she was home on break, they studied together, and they talked, and they worked,
and Justin felt better than he ever had before . This tone expresses the author s feelings towards getting
his grades up because he worked hard with a persevering attitude to achieve his

Assignment On Deck Repairs And Costs
Deck Repairs and Costs
The type of wood that comprises your deck will play a big role in determining what repairs are
necessary, and on what timeline. While composite decks are becoming more and more popular, there s
just no denying the beauty and longevity of a wood deck. Wood decks should last for several decades
when properly maintained, and cost less to install than composite decks.
Wood decks also increase the value of your home, and it is estimated that a standard wood deck will
recoup on average 85.4 percent of its cost when the house is sold. In comparison, a composite deck
will only recoup an average 77.6 percent of its total cost.
Regardless of which type of wood your current deck is made of, the following repairs are most often
required at some point in the life of your deck:
Replacing Deck Boards
One of the most common repair projects is replacing deck boards. You might need to do this for a
variety of reasons, including:
● Instability If the boards themselves have become unstable, they should be replaced. Replacing a few
deck boards will generally run $500 to 4,000. Some companies charge a minimum of $1,000 for
carpentry repairs, so be sure to get quotes.
● Stairs and/or railing that are loose or not up to code Depending on the severity of the issue with your
stairs or railing, expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $4,000 for this type of repair job, depending on
local rates and materials.

Formal And Informal Place Setting
Chances are you ve been taught some form of dining etiquette beginning at a young age. You probably
remember your parents telling you, Don t eat with your mouth full, Keep your elbows off of the table,
or Don t play with grandpa s teeth at the dinner table! What you probably didn t realize is your parents
were conditioning you on how to act at the dinner table in social situations, and possibly most
important, in the business world. If you re planning on a career in business, the probability of being
invited to an informal lunch interview or a formal dinner is likely. In the following paragraphs, I will
describe the differences between a formal and informal place setting, and explain some of the do s and
do not s of proper dining etiquette in a business setting. First of all, arrive to the dinner on time,
always dress for the occasion, and remember the host is in charge. If seating is assigned, look for the
place card with your name on it. The place card is typically located at the center of the dinner plate, or
just above it on the table. If there are no place cards, wait for the host to direct you to your assigned
seat. Let the host sit down before you unless they tell you to first. Once seated, pick up your napkin,
fold it in half, and lay it across your lap. Make sure the napkin fold is away from you so when you use
it any crumbs on the napkin will fall to the floor and not on you. Second, take notice of the place
setting. It s a good indicator whether the dinner

An Explication Of William Wordsworth s Tintern Abbey
An Explication of William Wordsworth s Tintern Abbey June 13, 1798 . In the poem Lines Composed
a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey on Revisiting the Banks of the Wye During a Tour William
Wordsworth seems to be drunken from nostalgia as he revisits his not entirely distant past. His passion
for the landscape is physical, taken in through his eyes, unmediated by more abstract (or spiritual)
thought (Pearson n.p) . As he stands over the lush farmland, not yet ripe, he describes a familiar but
missed beauty before he begins to remember his youthful state, compared to his modern and matured
outlook on nature, and even begins to allow his mind to wonder onto how his young sister shall view
the land. Wordsworth does here what most people will do, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and a cleansing place. In a way, the greatest form of therapy is to accept the world and allow himself
to find peace within it. Nature to him is a religion of sorts, peaceful and all encompassing in
benevolence (106 110). If he were to be denied of this revitalizing truth, Wordsworth conveys the

DI does not thwarts teacher creativity through the teacher student interaction guided by scripts in the
Teacher Presentation books. In fact, DI requires a great deal of teacher creativity in attending to the
needs and progress of all students and in designing expansion activities. Many educational
professionals see that DI focuses only on basic or rote skills, but on the contrary, DI curricula quickly
moves from foundational skills to very high level concepts and cognitive strategies. The last most
common action as to why DI is disliked by teachers and students is due to the lack of knowledge of
the workability, ease, and accommodating criteria that allows teacher and students to excel in all areas.

CANCER
Cancer is defined as group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and division of cells. The
condition also includes spreading of abnormal cells to adjacent healthy sites of the body (1). If this
condition is not controlled it could result in death. Abnormality in cell cycle regulation mechanisms,
uncontrolled cell division, and invasiveness to the healthy tissues are the characteristic features of the
cancer cells. Cells are the structural and functional units of all organisms. All the functions in the body
are carried out by the cells in a well organized and regulated manner. When the cells deviate from
their normal functioning and behave abnormally without any meaningful purpose in the body turn out

Different types of cancers behave differently based on the site of the origin. For example lung cancer
behaves differently compared to the breast cancer. One important fact to be known is the
characteristics of a cancer is based on its site of origin even it spreads to other tissues, for example
metastatic breast cancer behaves like itself even it spreads into lungs. Cancer can be caused external
factors such as tobacco intake, infectious organisms, and unhealthy life style. Internal factors such as
inheritance, genetic mutations, and immune conditions. These factors may act alone, combine or
sequence to cause cancer. Fig 1 Diagrammatic representation of cancer (2).
In United States, cancer is the second most leading cause of deaths next to cardiac diseases. One in
every four deaths is accounted by the cancer. Nearly 1,658,370 new cases of cancer are expected in
2015. About 589,430 of Americans are expected to die of cancer in 2015 which equals to 1620 people
per day. The five year survival rate for all cancers is 49 % between 1975 1977 which is increased to 68

reflect improvements in diagnostic and treatment options.

The Beginning Of Modern Day Industry
The beginning of modern day industry.
More than perhaps any single person of the last century, Henry Ford can take responsibility for
creating the American consumer ethic and the American middle class. We can thank him or curse him
for what he has done, but either way, we have to acknowledge the impact Henry Ford had on our
society. When we think about it, we have to acknowledge the impact he has had on each of our
individual lives. You might not know that Henry Ford did not start out as a successful producer of
automobiles. After building his first car, the Quadricycle, and working to improve his basic design in
the prototypes that followed. In 1899 he formed the Detroit Automobile Company, which quickly
failed after only a few vehicles were produced. Henry and some of his original investors regrouped
and formed the Henry Ford Company which quickly ran into problems as well. Henry Ford was
dismissed by his board of directors from the company that carried his name because of his inability to
bring a car to production. The company was reorganized as the Cadillac Motor Car Company under
the engineering leadership of Henry Leland. In 1903 Henry Ford felt he was ready to market an
automobile for the public and the Ford Motor Company was incorporated, this time with a mere
$28,000 in cash put up by a new group of investors. That original $28,000 investment was spent down
to less than $300 before the company s first car was sold, but from that time on the company was on

Leonardo Da Vinci Was The Renaissance Man
The Renaissance period was a period of change in Europe that occurred between the 14th to the 17th
century. Leonardo Da Vinci is perhaps the most famous figure of the Renaissance according to .But
what exactly is the Renaissance man? The Renaissance man can be thought of as a man who lived
during the period of Renaissance who had knowledge of and was interested in wide branches of
knowledge. With the above given definitions it is not hard to see why Leonardo Da Vince personified
the ideal of the Renaissance man. He was a brilliant inventor, mathematician scientist and perhaps one
of the best artists that have ever lived. Looking at the life such a brilliant actor it is difficult to imagine
if someone today could ever match his achievements but I think it is possible.

In his drawings Leonardo depicts how rocks actually pile, gather and break up in mountains and
caves. For example in the The Virgin and the Rocks he depicts how the rock in the background has
been punctured and sculpted by wind and water. Jones claims that Leonardo had already discovered
that the earth was older than it was than supposedly portrayed in the bible. He further goes on to
explain the Leonardo came to this conclusion. Leonardo had discovered that shells which are found on
mountain top must have been the remains of animals that lived there before. Therefore there was a sea
in that area that was later replaced by land over a long time. Da Vinci also discovered that it was water
that is responsible for the formation of sculpting of land and it could do so only after a long period of
time. Therefore Jones asserts that Leonardo Da Vinci discovered that the earth could have not been
created in a single moment as described in the book of Genesis. This was only discovered in the 1800
so in my opinion it asserts how ahead of his time Leonardo Da Vinci

Business Skills For A New Home
The job requirements are straight forward and do not ask for much. Some of the duties consists of
promoting property through ads, open houses and listing services. Advertising is key to attract
potential buyers and spread your business name around. Advising clients on prices of homes, current
market conditions and other market information also come into play. Taking prospective buyers to
view properties and persuading them to consider investing in a new home. As well as bringing
together negotiations between the buyer and seller. These are just a few things that the real estate
business will ask for.
I believe I have all the personal characteristics and skills needed to be a sales agent or broker. I plan to
go to college to learn all the necessary business skills to be successful. Most sales agents and brokers

losing valuable time. Great business skills come in handy when you run everything on your own.
Problems will pop up eventually which will require quick thinking and reaction time. Problem solving

Cultural Impact Of The Scientific And Political Effects Of...
Although nuclear weapons have obvious scientific and political effects, cultural effects on society can
also be observed. Since the world first saw the power of nuclear weapons in 1945, their role in culture
(in America and across the world) has grown as time went on. Nuclear weapons have bred fear across
the world, and the threat of mutually assured destruction still ominously hangs over us, even today. In
popular culture, nuclear weapons remain a popular theme, and many highly rated films or other forms
of media, such as Dr. Strangelove, revolve around nuclear weapons. Post bomb society has shown a
desire for peace, and the de nuclearization of countries in possession of nuclear weapons, and culture
has reflected this. However, society has also expressed a desire for nuclear weapons to remain, for fear
of other countries nuclear capabilities. Although both sides have a point, through mutual
understanding and an expressed desire for peace around the world, denuclearization can be a viable
option for peace. Since the first atomic bomb was used on Hiroshima in 1945, various parties have
sought to use its power for their own purposes. Most recently, the Kim regime have harnessed the
power of nuclear weapons for the preservation of their control over North Korea. In the past, however,
the fear that nukes inspired in society was used even by Americans. Most infamously, the Daisy ad,

Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean
Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those
who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact
has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension
between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow
for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not
based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward
mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved
more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of
mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast
of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought
over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines.
Slaves were taken and shipped to countries in South America and North America, to work on
plantations to harvest plants such as, Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20
hour days on these plantations and were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in
unlivable conditions. No matter what state of health a slave was in, they were expected to work

Autonomy is the concept of the patient having control over his or her own body ( Saint Joseph s

Julio Caesar by William Shakespeare Essay
Composers build on our perspectives to instil diverse interpretation of events, situations and
personalities represented through various mediums shaped by their purpose. Thus the representation of
conflicting perspectives within their works enables responders to experience a deeper understanding
of the world. This is clearly demonstrated in Shakespeare s tragic play Julius Caesar (1599) and Jason
Reitman s satirical film Thankyou for Smoking (2005). While the Elizabethan context informs
Shakespeare s differing perspectives of Caesar s assassination in relation to human beings
complexities and the manipulation used to gain power, centuries later, Reitman also explores the multi

The film opens with Nick appearing on Joan Launden s daytime talk show Joan, and as he is
introduced Reitman uses slow motion shots and freeze frames to capture the audience spitting,
pointing and shouting at him, signifying the hatred of his powerful and dubious position. Reitman
extends this portrayal with a mid length shot of Nick holding a lighter in front of the American flag
with a caption below indicating the number of people who die from smoking each year. The
confrontational nature of this scene conveys to the audience an immediate image of Nick s despised
persona. It is only towards the dénouement of the film when Nick resigns from his job that Reitman
offers up a more compassionate perspective on him. His vulnerability becomes obvious through cross
edits to his son and the voice over of Nick stating, Some things are more important in life than paying
the mortgage . Thus both texts explore the conflicting perspectives of Caesar and Nick s multi faceted
personalities, and enrich the responder s appreciation of human nature and the world around us. This
reflects Shakespeare s values of political stability and Reitman s judgment of the nature of political
and corporate culture in a capitalist society.

However, this rejection that these characters have also seems to be a symbol of male anxiety. The

Factors Affecting The Metabolism Before Information...
In addition, this theory focuses on building the metabolism before information bearing compounds
like RNA, while other theories focus on creating an RNA world first. However, the idea that
hydrothermal vents were the hatchery of life can be compatible for both theories. Similar to how the
micro compartments in the vents could have concentration chemicals needed for metabolism to arise,
the micro compartments could have also concentrated products needed for organic synthesis of
primitive genetic material (Joyce G.F. 2002). Some RNA world theories were criticized because the
chemicals in the ocean would be in too low of a concentration to react readily. Therefore, using
hydrothermal vents as a concentrating mechanisms would provide concentrations needed to help
endergonic reactions proceed (Martin et al. 2008).
To further our understanding of how life could have arisen and the constraints for life, we need to look

The Politics of Campaign Finance Essay
From the very first elections held in the United States, there has always been a strong link between
money and politics. During the first elections in the late 1700 s you had to be a white male landowner

counted. It seems today that we cannot go a day with out seeing campaign finance in the media,
whether or not it is through advertisements for politicians in the media or asked to donate money to

Through the leadership of Mark Hanna, McKinley was able to forge alliances with big businessmen,

The Battle Of The American Civil War
Introduction Thomas Stonewall Jackson was alive in a very tense time for American History. The
Southern States were in a full scale rebellion from the Union now calling themselves The Confederate
States of America. The previously unified nation was split into two opposing sides going head to head
in a battle to the death, with no end in sight. Starting his career in the US military, Jackson continued
on to become one of the most famous generals in the American Civil War. Many historians consider
him not only a strong leader, but also one of the greatest tactical commanders in American History
(Robertson 11). Gaining his nickname Stonewall during the First Bull Run for holding a solid line, and
continuing to gain many Confederate victories in the course of the war. Jackson was shot during the
Battle of Chancellorsville which required his arm to be amputated and he died several days later to
complications with pneumonia. After this his very name became a rallying cry and heroic symbol for
the very pride and history of the south.
Early Life Jackson grew up in a proud southern household and his family were natives of Virginia. His
father was an attorney and they were relatively well off financially. In 1826, Jackson lost both a

Cartier was a determined explorer. In the end of his magnificent years of sailing Cartier was a very

Cartier was a intelligent leader which led him too successful journeys and explorations, he had to

because by Cartier s third voyage he managed to get a crew of 5 ships which was a total of
approximately 120 130 men. Gathering this many crewmen who were pretty much risking their lives
to be on this voyage, was a very hard task. When Cartier was gathering his crew, he was intelligent in

Truman were in a shot together, Christof would always be bigger in one way or another, except for
one shot. This was to showcase that Christof overpowers Truman.
5. The quote by Roger Ebert states Television, with such insatiable hunger for material, has made
celebrities into content. He is speaking about when viewers watch something and become interested in
the content that they do not see the actors as actual people. The actors are just seen as material for the
viewers. For example, when the transmission of the show was cut, Truman s face was used as a stand
by screen. Christof said, We re getting higher ratings with this graphic... This in turn shows how the
viewers saw Truman as a good story instead of a

Assessment of Debates on Media Effects
Assessment of Debates on Media Effects
A long history lies behind question about how communication affects or influences people. Greeks
developed sophisticated hypothesis about how to impress listeners through the spoken word and
Aristotle was concerned with theorizing the art of speaking. Even nowadays in face to face
conversations each of us mobilizes theories about how to influence our listeners. For instance, we
wish to make others understand how we feel or what we think. Today, mass communication studies
have developed as a discipline with a focus on television and newspapers and, to a lesser extent,
cinema and radio. Thanks to mass communication technologies a programme can now be viewed ...

In short, if researchers had not showed some of the materials about which they were asking the
respondents to comment on, they would not normally have viewed them. Therefore, as Barker and
Petley (2001:4) conclude after a research focused on women s responses to four very different kinds of
programme, the issue is not whether depictions of violence increase the likelihood of similar violence
among potential perpetrators, but the feelings and reactions that it creates among those who are the
actual or potential victims of violence . The important point is not so much violent representations can
be the cause of world violence, as what people feel while they are watching some kind of violent
depictions.
We can also note that the media depictions of violence which the effects model typically condemns are
limited to fictional productions. As Gauntlett (1998:125) says there is no obvious reason why the
antisocial activities which are always in the news, and which frequently do not have such apparent
consequences for their agents, should not have similar effects . Most of the studies about media effects
almost always separate their discussions of entertainment from news. Turow (1999) believes that
people have been taught to expect more from

Tourism As A Source Of Revenue Managing Destinations Essay
In today s competitive economies and with growth of tourism as a source of revenue managing
destinations is an important and integral part of controlling tourism s environmental impacts and
promoting sustainable tourism in the region. Destination management includes planned business
permits to organizations, land use planning, environmental and other regulations and various other
methods for the development and operations of activities related to tourism. According to UNWTO
The programme for Destination Management is committed to respond positively to the growing need
for systematic, multidisciplinary and intersectoral strategies for tourism at local, regional and national
level and in particular to provide strategic guidance in destination management which is a recent
conceptualization of a micro level activity at national, regional and/or local level in which the tourism
stakeholders carry out their individual and organizational responsibilities in a coordinated manner
aiming to achieve the macro level policies. (United Nations World Tourism Organization)
The term destination is given to an area where tourism is of significant importance and economy is
highly influenced by tourism. UNWTO defines destinations as A local tourism destination is a
physical space in which a visitor spends at least one overnight. It includes tourism products such as
support services and attractions, and tourism resources within one day´s return travel time. It has

An Analysis Of David Slaying Goliath By Peter Paul Rubens
David Slaying Goliath by Peter Paul Rubens is an example of Renaissance art. This painting depicts a
well known Bible story of a young Israelite boy named David who kills the giant, Goliath, with a
slingshot, and chops off his head with a sword. Rubens has chosen to illustrate this Bible story at the
moment when David is about to hack off Goliath s head with the giant s sword. In addition, we see
armor clad soldiers rushing into battle in the background. In David Slaying Goliath, Peter Paul Rubens
uses color, value, and line to illustrate the dynamism and energy within the painting that makes it look
realistic. In addition, these elements contribute to the sense of excitement and anticipation of the event
depicted. First of all, Rubens uses dark and light colors throughout the painting to emphasize
movement and fluidity. The most obvious use of movement through color appears on David. David s
bright red drapery is what draws our eyes in first because David is the most important object in the
painting. The different shades of red emphasize movement because it accentuates the folds of the
drapery, making it flow. The warmth of the red in his drapery contrasting with the darkness of the
ground gives off intensity and seriousness of the scene. Furthermore, there is bright red blood on
Goliath s forehead, where David struck him with a rock. The red blood sticks out, making the scene a
bit more realistic and exciting. The dark and light colors used in the sky also shows

Walgreen Company Case Study
Based on the tables above, the company consisting of the shortest cash to cash cycle is Walgreen
Company. On the contrary, the longest cycle is contained by Rite Aid. Therefore, there is a leaner
operation in Walgreen compared to both CVS and Rite companies. When compared to the two
companies, Walgreen is less liquid. Due to the reduced period of cash to cash cycle, there is more
operating investment in disposal to be used in Walgreen when compared to CVS and Rite. By
considering cash to cash cycle, the best performing company is Walgreen, followed by CVS and
finally Rite Aid.
The highest return on assets from the tables above is 23.8%, which belongs to Rite Aid. CVS follows
with 6.25%, and lastly, Walgreen has 5.20%. Therefore, the most rewarding assets belong to Rite since
they achieve a higher return on investment compared to the other two companies. Out of the three
companies, Walgreen has assets with the lowest returns on investment. Basing return on assets results,
Rite Aid has the best performance, followed by CVS and finally Walgreen Company. The highest
probability is that Rite Aid knows how to utilize its resources to the optimum to achieve quality
results. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If CVS were to start operating on a lean philosophy, various processes would become faster, e.g.,
order to cash receipt process. This would, in turn, speed up activities such as invoicing process,
response to overdue bills and the billing errors would be minimized (Oliveira Fernandes, 2017).
Reduction in cycle time and error rates would avail more cash for paying suppliers as well as
redeployment of the business. Consequently, inventory levels would reduce while the turnover would
increase. A speeder cash collection would also be achieved with shorter cash to cash cycle. Therefore,
it would be better for CVS to operate

Effects Of Geopolymer Adsorbents
reorganization determine the microstructure and pore distribution of the material, which are critical in
determining many physical properties (Duxson et al., 2005; Duxson et al., 2007). Geopolymers
derived from different combinations of raw materials can easily be synthesized containing multivalent
cations (Alonso and Palomo, 2001; Granizo et al., 2002; Lee and Van Deventer, 2002; Yip and Van
Deventer, 2003). Therefore during the course of alkali mediated reaction, Al (IV) and Si (IV) are
converted to tetrahedral sites with an associated alkali cation to maintain electro neutrality
(Davidovits, 1991). The speciation of aluminum in alkaline solutions is restricted to Al (OH) 4 (aq) in
all but the most concentrated aluminate solutions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.9 Compositional and microstructural analyses of geopolymers and source materials
The geopolymers like other molecular sieves are characterized using FTIR, SEM, EDS, XRD among
other methods. Characterization using FT IR spectroscopy is for determination of molecular vibration
of the geopolymers, X ray diffractometer (XRD) for crystal structure determination, X ray
fluorescence (XRF) or EDS to qualitatively and quantitatively identify the chemical composition of
principal components (López et al., 2014).
2.10 Adsorption isotherms
Adsorption isotherm is the relationship between amount of sorbate adsorbed by an adsorbent (solid)
and its equilibrium concentration at constant temperature (Theodore and Ricci, 2010). An equilibrium
is arrived at where a number of molecules arriving on the surface of an adsorbent equals the number
of molecules that are leaving (Thajeel, 2013). Equilibrium data is analyzed using commonly known
adsorption systems (Rahimi and Vadi, 2014). The earliest and simplest known relationships describing
the adsorption process are the Freundlich and the Langmuir isotherms (Jalali et al., 2002). It is a
versatile isotherm expression that can simulate both Langmuir and Freundlich behaviors ( Sips, 1948;
Nah et al., 1977). The Langmuir Freundlich isotherm can describe both the Langmuir type and
Freundlich type adsorption behavior and has been used for modeling pH dependent sorption effects of
adsorption

Uncertainty And Imperfect Information On Entrepreneurship
Uncertainty and Imperfect information in entrepreneurship are two important concepts that should be
considered in the role of entrepreneurs. According to (Klir, 1999) uncertainty has many methods and
dimensions and can include concepts such as vagueness, disagreement and conflict, imprecision and
non specificity The term uncertainty can be defined broadly as any deviation from the unachievable
ideal of completely deterministic knowledge of the relevant system (Walker, 2003). Uncertainty could
mean unpredictability, doubt or fear of the unknown. It has to do with the risk entrepreneurs take in
business. Imperfect information on the other hand means lack of adequate information before
embarking on the business. It can also be viewed as incomplete collection of facts or flawed
communication. These two concepts play vital roles in businesses and if not carefully considered and
handled, they can have adverse effects on businesses.
Who Are Entrepreneurs?
An entrepreneur is a person who creates new business, taking risks in accomplishing the objectives
which they intend to make profits and growth by recognising vital opportunities (Burdus, 2010). They
are individuals who innovate, recognise business opportunities, gather and co ordinate new blends of
resources {i.e. production functions) in other to extract the most profits from their innovations in an
uncertain environment (Rapheal Amit, 1993) Entrepreneurs are private business owners. They are self
starters and optimistic

Analysis Of Natural Goodness By Philippa Foot Essay
In her book Natural goodness , Philippa Foot shows that ethical evaluation has the same conceptual
structure as the evaluation of living things. This essay will extend from that and focus on how, in fact
and practical reason, that I am human sets what is good for me to do. In doing this, it will further show
how ethical naturalism can claim ethical facts are both descriptive and action guiding. The essay will
take the form of five main sections. Firstly, I will lay out the Footian view of a thick notion of how a
plant or animal should be based on where we see it aiming at and how it characteristically gets there
sets our evaluation of those subjects. Secondly, I will distinguish between internal and external
reasons for acting in order to disambiguate the following section in which I discuss John McDowell s
view of how at least some internal ethical reasons for acting do not need further internal justification
to be correct reasons. In order to relate this to the first section, I will look at Steven Hendley s
argument that correct reason is rooted in first nature and argue that human telos must be seen as what
both rational second nature and first nature is aiming at, a la animal Telos. Finally, using John Hacker
Wright as a springboard, I will argue that taking ourselves to be acting on correct internal reasons
requires and discloses a picture of how people should be which connects human telos to correct action
in the spheres of practical and theoretic reason. Why

Yet another criticism is their belief in deterrence. People commit crimes for many different reasons that classicalists fail to acknowledge. Classical criminology was the first big step into what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm 21). Positivism has two main elements: One is the belief that human behavior is a function of forces beyond a person s control [and] the second aspect of positivism is embracing the scientific method to solve problems (Siegel 7 8). . Le Claire received his Bachelor and Master?s degrees in criminal justice from the University of Nevada, Reno. Currently he is working towards his Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where his areas of specialization are crime, deviance, and culture. Culture itself is a complex topic with multiple definitions ranging from the organic to the mechanical, the natural to the manufactured. In a world composed of different groups, we see many variations of culture. Cultural universals are traits, patterns, and elements that transcend specific groups and can be applied to all known cultures (Macionis 2014). This idea implies that mankind and its multiple cultures are interconnected by patterns of fulfilling human needs that occur on a global scale. Specific examples of cultural universals extend from medicine to the family unit. Though anthropologists and sociologists have found support for the existence of cultural universals, the idea of these universal aspects of culture still draw criticism from critical and postmodern scholars and by individuals who ascertain cultural universals are in a natural state of opposition with cultural relativism. Framework The idea of cultural universals is rooted in positivist traditions of biology and psychology, as well as structural functionalism. The place card is typically located at the center of the dinner plate, or just above it on the table. If there are no place cards, wait for the host to direct you to your assigned seat. Let the host sit down before you unless they tell you to first. Once seated, pick up your napkin, fold it in half, and lay it across your lap. • 23. The Beginning Of Modern Day Industry The beginning of modern day industry. More than perhaps any single person of the last century, Henry Ford can take responsibility for creating the American consumer ethic and the American middle class. We can thank him or curse him for what he has done, but either way, we have to acknowledge the impact Henry Ford had on our society. When we think about it, we have to acknowledge the impact he has had on each of our individual lives. You might not know that Henry Ford did not start out as a successful producer of automobiles. After building his first car, the Quadricycle, and working to improve his basic design in the prototypes that followed. In 1899 he formed the Detroit Automobile Company, which quickly failed after only a few vehicles were produced. Henry and some of his original investors regrouped and formed the Henry Ford Company which quickly ran into problems as well. Henry Ford was dismissed by his board of directors from the company that carried his name because of his inability to bring a car to production. The company was reorganized as the Cadillac Motor Car Company under the engineering leadership of Henry Leland. In 1903 Henry Ford felt he was ready to market an automobile for the public and the Ford Motor Company was incorporated, this time with a mere $28,000 in cash put up by a new group of investors. That original $28,000 investment was spent down to less than $300 before the company s first car was sold, but from that time on the company was on its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Renaissance man can be thought of as a man who lived during the period of Renaissance who had knowledge of and was interested in wide branches of knowledge. Leonardo had discovered that shells which are found on mountain top must have been the remains of animals that lived there before. Therefore there was a sea in that area that was later replaced by land over a long time. Da Vinci also discovered that it was water that is responsible for the formation of sculpting of land and it could do so only after a long period of time. Since the world first saw the power of nuclear weapons in 1945, their role in culture (in America and across the world) has grown as time went on. Nuclear weapons have bred fear across the world, and the threat of mutually assured destruction still ominously hangs over us, even today. In popular culture, nuclear weapons remain a popular theme, and many highly rated films or other forms of media, such as Dr. Strangelove, revolve around nuclear weapons. Post bomb society has shown a desire for peace, and the de nuclearization of countries in possession of nuclear weapons, and culture has reflected this. However, society has also expressed a desire for nuclear weapons to remain, for fear of other countries nuclear capabilities. Although both sides have a point, through mutual understanding and an expressed desire for peace around the world, denuclearization can be a viable option for peace. Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines. In addition, this theory focuses on building the metabolism before information bearing compounds like RNA, while other theories focus on creating an RNA world first. However, the idea that hydrothermal vents were the hatchery of life can be compatible for both theories. Similar to how the micro compartments in the vents could have concentration chemicals needed for metabolism to arise, the micro compartments could have also concentrated products needed for organic synthesis of primitive genetic material (Joyce G.F. 2002). Some RNA world theories were criticized because the chemicals in the ocean would be in too low of a concentration to react readily. Therefore, using hydrothermal vents as a concentrating mechanisms would provide concentrations needed to help endergonic reactions proceed (Martin et al. 2008). To further our understanding of how life could have arisen and the constraints for life, we need to look beyond our planet. The important point is not so much violent representations can be the cause of world violence, as what people feel while they are watching some kind of violent depictions. We can also note that the media depictions of violence which the effects model typically condemns are limited to fictional productions. Most of the studies about media effects almost always separate their discussions of entertainment from news. Turow (1999) believes that people have been taught to expect more from ... • 44. Tourism As A Source Of Revenue Managing Destinations Essay In today s competitive economies and with growth of tourism as a source of revenue managing destinations is an important and integral part of controlling tourism s environmental impacts and promoting sustainable tourism in the region. Destination management includes planned business permits to organizations, land use planning, environmental and other regulations and various other methods for the development and operations of activities related to tourism. According to UNWTO The programme for Destination Management is committed to respond positively to the growing need for systematic, multidisciplinary and intersectoral strategies for tourism at local, regional and national level and in particular to provide strategic guidance in destination management which is a recent conceptualization of a micro level activity at national, regional and/or local level in which the tourism stakeholders carry out their individual and organizational responsibilities in a coordinated manner aiming to achieve the macro level policies. (United Nations World Tourism Organization) The term destination is given to an area where tourism is of significant importance and economy is highly influenced by tourism. UNWTO defines destinations as A local tourism destination is a physical space in which a visitor spends at least one overnight. It includes tourism products such as support services and attractions, and tourism resources within one day´s return travel time. It has physical and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. An Analysis Of David Slaying Goliath By Peter Paul Rubens David Slaying Goliath by Peter Paul Rubens is an example of Renaissance art. This painting depicts a well known Bible story of a young Israelite boy named David who kills the giant, Goliath, with a slingshot, and chops off his head with a sword. Rubens has chosen to illustrate this Bible story at the moment when David is about to hack off Goliath s head with the giant s sword. In addition, we see armor clad soldiers rushing into battle in the background. In David Slaying Goliath, Peter Paul Rubens uses color, value, and line to illustrate the dynamism and energy within the painting that makes it look realistic. In addition, these elements contribute to the sense of excitement and anticipation of the event depicted. First of all, Rubens uses dark and light colors throughout the painting to emphasize movement and fluidity. The most obvious use of movement through color appears on David. David s bright red drapery is what draws our eyes in first because David is the most important object in the painting. The different shades of red emphasize movement because it accentuates the folds of the drapery, making it flow. The warmth of the red in his drapery contrasting with the darkness of the ground gives off intensity and seriousness of the scene. Furthermore, there is bright red blood on Goliath s forehead, where David struck him with a rock. The red blood sticks out, making the scene a bit more realistic and exciting. The dark and light colors used in the sky also shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Walgreen Company Case Study Based on the tables above, the company consisting of the shortest cash to cash cycle is Walgreen Company. On the contrary, the longest cycle is contained by Rite Aid. Therefore, there is a leaner operation in Walgreen compared to both CVS and Rite companies. When compared to the two companies, Walgreen is less liquid. Due to the reduced period of cash to cash cycle, there is more operating investment in disposal to be used in Walgreen when compared to CVS and Rite. By considering cash to cash cycle, the best performing company is Walgreen, followed by CVS and finally Rite Aid. The highest return on assets from the tables above is 23.8%, which belongs to Rite Aid. CVS follows with 6.25%, and lastly, Walgreen has 5.20%. Therefore, the most rewarding assets belong to Rite since they achieve a higher return on investment compared to the other two companies. Out of the three companies, Walgreen has assets with the lowest returns on investment. Basing return on assets results, Rite Aid has the best performance, followed by CVS and finally Walgreen Company. The highest probability is that Rite Aid knows how to utilize its resources to the optimum to achieve quality results. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If CVS were to start operating on a lean philosophy, various processes would become faster, e.g., order to cash receipt process. This would, in turn, speed up activities such as invoicing process, response to overdue bills and the billing errors would be minimized (Oliveira Fernandes, 2017). Reduction in cycle time and error rates would avail more cash for paying suppliers as well as redeployment of the business. Consequently, inventory levels would reduce while the turnover would increase. A speeder cash collection would also be achieved with shorter cash to cash cycle. Therefore, it would be better for CVS to operate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Effects Of Geopolymer Adsorbents reorganization determine the microstructure and pore distribution of the material, which are critical in determining many physical properties (Duxson et al., 2005; Duxson et al., 2007). Geopolymers derived from different combinations of raw materials can easily be synthesized containing multivalent cations (Alonso and Palomo, 2001; Granizo et al., 2002; Lee and Van Deventer, 2002; Yip and Van Deventer, 2003). Therefore during the course of alkali mediated reaction, Al (IV) and Si (IV) are converted to tetrahedral sites with an associated alkali cation to maintain electro neutrality (Davidovits, 1991). The speciation of aluminum in alkaline solutions is restricted to Al (OH) 4 (aq) in all but the most concentrated aluminate solutions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.9 Compositional and microstructural analyses of geopolymers and source materials The geopolymers like other molecular sieves are characterized using FTIR, SEM, EDS, XRD among other methods. Characterization using FT IR spectroscopy is for determination of molecular vibration of the geopolymers, X ray diffractometer (XRD) for crystal structure determination, X ray fluorescence (XRF) or EDS to qualitatively and quantitatively identify the chemical composition of principal components (López et al., 2014). 2.10 Adsorption isotherms Adsorption isotherm is the relationship between amount of sorbate adsorbed by an adsorbent (solid) and its equilibrium concentration at constant temperature (Theodore and Ricci, 2010). An equilibrium is arrived at where a number of molecules arriving on the surface of an adsorbent equals the number of molecules that are leaving (Thajeel, 2013). Equilibrium data is analyzed using commonly known adsorption systems (Rahimi and Vadi, 2014). The earliest and simplest known relationships describing the adsorption process are the Freundlich and the Langmuir isotherms (Jalali et al., 2002). It is a versatile isotherm expression that can simulate both Langmuir and Freundlich behaviors ( Sips, 1948; Nah et al., 1977). The Langmuir Freundlich isotherm can describe both the Langmuir type and Freundlich type adsorption behavior and has been used for modeling pH dependent sorption effects of adsorption ... • 48. Uncertainty And Imperfect Information On Entrepreneurship Uncertainty and Imperfect information in entrepreneurship are two important concepts that should be considered in the role of entrepreneurs. According to (Klir, 1999) uncertainty has many methods and dimensions and can include concepts such as vagueness, disagreement and conflict, imprecision and non specificity The term uncertainty can be defined broadly as any deviation from the unachievable ideal of completely deterministic knowledge of the relevant system (Walker, 2003). Uncertainty could mean unpredictability, doubt or fear of the unknown. It has to do with the risk entrepreneurs take in business. Imperfect information on the other hand means lack of adequate information before embarking on the business. It can also be viewed as incomplete collection of facts or flawed communication. These two concepts play vital roles in businesses and if not carefully considered and handled, they can have adverse effects on businesses. Who Are Entrepreneurs? An entrepreneur is a person who creates new business, taking risks in accomplishing the objectives which they intend to make profits and growth by recognising vital opportunities (Burdus, 2010). They are individuals who innovate, recognise business opportunities, gather and co ordinate new blends of resources {i.e. production functions) in other to extract the most profits from their innovations in an uncertain environment (Rapheal Amit, 1993) Entrepreneurs are private business owners. They are self starters and optimistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Analysis Of Natural Goodness By Philippa Foot Essay In her book Natural goodness , Philippa Foot shows that ethical evaluation has the same conceptual structure as the evaluation of living things. This essay will extend from that and focus on how, in fact and practical reason, that I am human sets what is good for me to do. In doing this, it will further show how ethical naturalism can claim ethical facts are both descriptive and action guiding. The essay will take the form of five main sections. Firstly, I will lay out the Footian view of a thick notion of how a plant or animal should be based on where we see it aiming at and how it characteristically gets there sets our evaluation of those subjects. Secondly, I will distinguish between internal and external reasons for acting in order to disambiguate the following section in which I discuss John McDowell s view of how at least some internal ethical reasons for acting do not need further internal justification to be correct reasons. In order to relate this to the first section, I will look at Steven Hendley s argument that correct reason is rooted in first nature and argue that human telos must be seen as what both rational second nature and first nature is aiming at, a la animal Telos. Finally, using John Hacker Wright as a springboard, I will argue that taking ourselves to be acting on correct internal reasons requires and discloses a picture of how people should be which connects human telos to correct action in the spheres of practical and theoretic reason.
