3. What Kids Can Do
Tell parents or other
trusted adults.
Adults can help stop the
bullying
Telling Is Not Tattling !
4. What Can Kids Do
Try not to show anger or fear
Kids who bully like to see that they
can upset you
Calmly tell them to stop….or say nothing and walk
away
Use humor, if this is easy for you to do (for
example,if someone makes fun of your
clothing, laugh and say, “Yeah, I think this shirt is
kind of funny too.”
5. Avoid situations in
which bullying is
likely to happen
Avoid areas of the school where there are not
many students or teachers around
Make sure they aren’t alone in the bathroom
Sit near the front of the bus
Don’t bring expensive things or money to school
Sit with a group of friends at lunch
Walk with friends or a teacher
6. Lend a Hand
What should students do when they
see someone being bullied at school?
Ask themselves, “Is it my job to help?”
Think about how they might feel if the bullying was
happening to them
They can lend a hand even if they’re not close friends
with the person who is being bullied.
Their school will be a better place if they help stop
bullying.
Making their school a better place is everyone’s job!
7. Don’t Be A Bystander
Be An Upstander
What can they do?
Think about what may work for you:
Don’t stand there….SAY SOMETHING!
Kids who bully may think they are being funny or “cool”
If they feel safe, tell the person to STOP the bullying
behavior.
Say they don’t like it and it isn’t funny
DON’T BULLY BACK! It won’t help
If they use mean names or actions it could make things
worse
9. What If They Don’t Feel
Safe Speaking Up
That’s okay….no one should put themselves
in an unsafe situation
There are other things they can do
Say kind words to the child who is being bullied
Be a friend…Invite them to do something
Tell an adult….Chances are the child who is being
bullied needs help from an adult and the child who
is doing the bullying probably does too
10. Tell An Adult
Who should they tell at school?
Teacher
School Counselor
Cafeteria or Playground Aide
Principal
Bus Driver, or
Other adults they feel comfortable telling
If they need help telling, take a friend along
