The Fax Machine – A Constantly Evolving Technology...
Despite the availability of advanced modern day technologies for transferring documents worldwide,
the fax machine, a technology developed way back in 1843, continues to persist in homes and offices
even today. Considering the fact that this technology is more than a century old, it should have already
joined the telegraphs and pagers in antique shops by now. Surprisingly however, instead of going
obsolete, fax machines have continued to evolve, adapt and conform to the requirements of modern
telecommunications. The fax machine had already made its mark as an office workhorse back in the
1980s, and has continued to appear on business cards ever since! Although threatened by far more
advanced and preferable technologies like scanners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Newspapers and weather services were the earliest users of fax machines for transferring photographs
and weather maps across the world. The use of fax machines was however limited because of their
expensive nature and difficulty of operation. However, by 1980, telephone based fax machines had
gained immense popularity because of their reduced prices and fixed Grade 3 standards of operation.
About a million fax machines were sold in 1988 alone, and they became the fastest selling machines
adorning homes and office desktops word wide. Fax machines proved to be of immense utility to the
Japanese. The Japanese alphabet has thousands of characters, and keypads can only afford a limited
number of keys. Fax machines provided the Japanese an easy way to transfer their written documents.
According to the American facsimile association, about 50% of all calls made in the 1980s to the US
from Japan were to fax machines.
Frank Vizard, contributing editor of the Popular Mechanics magazine, writes that increasing
popularity of fax machines blurred the line between the home and the office, as business documents
could easily be faxed to homes within seconds. People dealt with work related documents from the
comforts of their homes. Fax machines soon replaced postal mailboxes and reduced the time of
delivery of documents. This was both a convenience as well as an inconvenience, as people could no
longer find an excuse

Scarlet Letter Narrator
The narrator of The Scarlet Letter is a surveyor in Salem who found documents in the customhouse s
attic of a manuscript, the work of a past surveyor. From this manuscript, the narrator of the story
retells the story: The Scarlet Letter.
The setting of the story is 1600s in a Puritan settlement. The main character of our story, Hester
Prynne is branded with a scarlet letter (an A) for adultery and is being led out into the town from
prison to be reprimanded for her sins. Her husband, a scholar from overseas, has not arrived yet
allegedly and is believed to have been lost out at sea. Hester has had an affair and given birth to a
child (named Pearl), and refuses to tell the name of the father despite being verbally attacked by the
townspeople. Because of her adultery and unwillingness to disclose his ... Show more content on

Chillingworth finds a mark on Dimmesdale s chest one night as he is sleeping, and confirms that he is
connected with Hester. Dimmesdale becomes even more distressed, and continues to torture himself in
new ways. Hester has become less hated in the town because of her humility and charity (she works as
a seamstress). One night, Hester and Pearl both find Dimmesdale on the scaffold in the town,
punishing himself for his sins. They all join hands, Pearl (around 7 now) asks Arthur if he can come
forward about them the next day, to which he refuses. A meteor runs across the sky, marking a red A in
the clouds. Dimmesdale is growing worse and Hester intervenes by going to Chillingworth to ask him
to stop tormenting Arthur (he doesn t). Hester plans to meet Dimmesdale in the forest because
Chillingworth may suspect that Hester will reveal who he really is to Dimmesdale. Hester and
Dimmesdale plan to run away to Europe with each other, and will sail away from Boston in four days.
This is when Hester takes of her scarlet letter. In town, right before the ship is about to sail, there is a
holiday and Dimmesdale delivers his best sermon yet. But

Title: Determination of free fatty acid (FFA) in oil and determination of iodine value (IV) in oil
Introduction
Acid value or free fatty acid content is an important characteristic commonly used in quality control of
fat and oil. Fats and oils are one of the large variety and important sources in the world. It contains
acidity which is the result of the degree of breakdown of the triacylglycerols by a chemical reaction

One application of the iodine number is the determination of the amount of unsaturation contained in
fatty acids. This unsaturation is in the form of double bonds which react with iodine compounds. The
higher the iodine number, the more unsaturated fatty acid bonds are present in a fat. In a typical
procedure the acid is treated with an excess of Wij s iodine solution which a solution of iodine
monochloride (ICl) in glacial acetic acid. The iodine concentration is then determined by titration with
sodium thiosulfate. Iodine value is the average unsaturation measurement in fat sample. Although
iodine value is expressed as the weight of iodine added to 100 g of sample, the analytical procedure
used to determine the iodine normally use iodine monochloride in acetic acid solution (Wijs reagent)
as halogenations agent.
Objective
1) To determine the free fatty acid found in oil.
2) To differentiate between the free fatty acid formed during the hydrolysis process and oxidation
process.
3) To understand the relationship between acid value and free fatty acid
4) To determine the iodine value (IV) in oil

Techno trash (or e waste) is one of the negative impacts of new technology. It is the rubbish created by
discarded electronics. Developed countries such as the U.S export 50% to 80% of their techno trash to
poorer Asian countries. The discarded technology is processed by workers who do not have the right
equipment to handle and safely recycle these tech materials. This puts the workers and community to
high levels of toxic materials, which could turn towns and the surrounding area into contaminated
dumps. The e waste that isn t transported to Asia ends up in local landfills and poses risks to the
surrounding environment and communities. Technology is made up of a mixture of dangerous
chemicals. The toxic chemicals can cause serious damage to the environment. Some of these

The New Colossus Essay
The Land of the Free The New Colossus is a poem written by Emma Lazarus that is inscribed on a
plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty. This is the poem that we as Americans use as words of
inspiration. From October 28, 1886, the date of when the Statue of Liberty was built and dedicated, to
the year 2017, we have used the poem s words to live by. While some people think that it is time for a
change, others say that we should leave the poem to stay, for it is a historical remembrance of
everything that we have stood up for. This poem also represents the welcoming of immigrants, the
freedom that we fought for, and the freedom of religion. Immigrants come into this country to get a
new life of freedom. In The New Colossus , one verse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When America fought in both World War I and World War II, the Revolutionary War, and many more,
we were fighting for the freedom of others or the freedom of ourselves. For example, America fought
for the freedom of the Jews, the slaves, and any others. Even though those wars were fought many
years ago, we still should fight for the freedom of others and the freedom of ourselves. The treatment
for the equality of religion is even the first amendment. This is one major reason we should still follow
the poem. It might represent the welcoming to immigrants, but that also means to respect and
welcome their religion, no matter how ridiculous the religion seems to us. We shouldn t judge or
question the religion, we should show kindness and respect for the others. The immigrants, for
example, have been through so much lately. The last thing they need is for someone to judge their
beliefs. We should still and forever follow the wise words of the poem, The New Colossus . It
represents everything that America stands for. Freedom of religion, all the wars that we have fought in
for freedom, and the freedom for immigrants are important reasons to keep this poem alive. We should
always have this poem as America s mantra and should always keep it on the base of the Statue of
Liberty. It stands up for freedom of all

Racism In Master Harold And The Boys, By Athol Fugard
Master Harold ...and the Boys, by Athol Fugard takes place in the apartheid regime of South Africa.
The main theme in the play is racism, and the characters Hally, Sam and Willy confront its realities in
various ways throughout the play. Fugard uses symbolism as a way to explore racial tensions. He uses
four key symbols to establish the themes of racism and division as well as hope, freedom and
harmony. These include the meaning of the segregated bench, the flying kite, the ballroom dancing
and the crippled father.
Hally s favorite memory as a young boy is flying a kite with Sam in the park. Flying the kite
symbolizes overcoming racial barriers between black and white people. Sam makes the kite for Hally
to help him overcome his sense of shame because of his father s drunkenness. The kite is made from
tomato box wood and brown paper, flour and water for glue. Two of [his] mother s old stocking for a
tail and pieces of string. (Fugard 29) At first Hally is suspicious and had no hopes for it [...] In fact
[he] was shit scared [they] were going to make fools of [themselves]. (Fugard 29) Taking the step to
be a white person who disagrees with racism takes a lot of determination and guts. In order for Hally
to treat Sam as an equal he has to rise above the shame. The kite represents black and white people
working together and being equal. They are flying the kite together, and while doing this they are on
the same level. It is also significant that the kite flies beautifully

Life Is My Life
Life for me sucks. I m the one person at school that does not get avoided. But I say that in a bad way. I
walk down the halls and people are shoving me, throwing my stuff to the ground, and getting laughed

their way because if so you re done for. I m not alone though, in this sucky life. I share it with others
too. I m not the only one who gets picked on. I see others facing the same problems. Sometimes I feel
bad for the person who has taken my place. But majority of the time I am relieved that for once my
life doesn t suck as much as it could. Hey Kyle, Ryan smirked as he made his way towards me. Whats
this? An apple? Ryan questioned as he plucked the fruit from my hand, and in one smooth motion he
took a bite and hurled it across the room and barely missed the trash can on the other side of the room.

Many ambitious and successful women in the workplace begin declining offers or stop pursuing better
positions due to fear that they may not be able to handle the responsibility once they have a child, long
before they are even close to having a child. Sandberg suggests that women not take their foot of the
gas pedal or put on the brakes until they need to. In chapter 8: Make a Partner a Real Partner,
Sandberg stresses the importance of having a partner who is willing to split the roles at home so that
the time and workload is 50/50. She believes that just as women must be more empowered at work,
men must be more empowered at home. Admitting that this easier said than done, it ends up being
better for everyone. In chapter 9, The Myth of Doing it All, Sandberg explains that it is impossible for
anyone to do it all. Many working mothers feel guilty when they compare themselves to stay at home
mothers, assuming that they spend more time with their children than working mothers can. Studies
show no difference in child outcome from working mothers and stay at home

The Buddha s Charter Of Free Inquiry
Many people have participated in the discussion regarding the Kālāma Sutta. Unfortunately, a bundle
of people only focus on a single passage and misrepresent the whole sutta. More details of this will be
explored further in the later section, Buddhism and Authority.
In The Buddha s Charter of Free Inquiry Soma Thera says that the Kālāma Sutta is teaching to the
Kālāmas but is also an incentive of free inquiry. The teaching is exemption from the authoritative
dogmas, intolerance and personal interest. He further insisted that if one were to discern the discourse
correctly, wisdom is processed throughout. The sutta, he said, is very obvious in rejecting the bad and
adopting the good way... the place of critical examination and analysis in the development of right
vision. Buddha s insight into the matter of judgment is beyond our normal understanding. As the four
solaces show that a noble life is not about faith in rebirth and retribution. Instead, it is about happiness
of the mind by conquering our own avarice, enmity, and ignorance. Basically, the teaching is for
everyone.
Soma Thera concluded his essay by citing a short conversation between Moncure D. Conway and
Ponnambalam Ramanathan, who follow different faiths but come together and listen to the discourse
of the Kālāmas and profess this good doctrine is essential to humanity development.
However, scholar and monastic Bhikkhu Bodhi has a different perspective on the Kālāma Sutta. In his

Minimum Wage Is An Issue That Is Causing Uproar Amongst...
Yimaj Sherif
ENG 1520
Dr.James

Minnsincsndcdcsdc
Minimum wage is an issue that is causing uproar amongst working class citizens. For many workers, a
simple increase of 30% in the federal minimum wage could be the difference between living in or out
of poverty. Over the past few decades there have been countless increases in salaries, although none of
those went to people who actually needed it. To this day the rich continue to get richer, vastly
increasing their wealth, while the poor are struggling to provide basic necessities such as food, shelter,
and clothing. While the rich keep get richer and the poor continue getting poorer, we have seen a
decrease in the middle class; median income has turned into upper or lower middle class. Establishing
legislation that provides workers with a wage that is able to sustain simple necessities is necessary, it
would provide ample support for those who may not have been able to afford living to take a step
away from poverty and move into the middle class.
The minimum wage was set with the passage of The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). Its
initial price point was $0.25 per hour, and it has been raised twenty two times since. It allowed for
federal protections against employers like minimum wage, overtime pay for time worked over a set
number of hours in a workweek, restrictions on the employment of children, and recordkeeping
requirements (uc davis). In that year, the act applied to industries whose

Patrice Lumumba And The Congo Crisis
In June of 1960, at the height of the Cold War, Congo received its independence from King Leopold II
s Belgium. Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of Congo, was instrumental in the Congolese
bid for independence, and played a similar role in the early stages of postcolonial Congo, known as
the Congo Crisis . In the new Congolese nation, Lumumba was faced with the challenge of unifying a
large African nation with difficulties arising from Cold war influences and geopolitical tensions. As
Prime Minister, Lumumba s primary goal was to build a functioning Congolese state, with the Cold
War being irrelevant save its ability to help in the process of state building.

The short term success of communist and other highly centralized governments was enticing to
Lumumba, so he turned to a strong centralized government as his way of unifying Congo. In the
context of the Cold War, with fears and tensions at an all time high, this methodology alarmed the
nations of the free world. The Belgians and opposing political parties propagated the rumors of
Lumumba s communist tendencies, vilifying Lumumba. As Lumumba later found out, this was an
unfortunate resemblance to bear in the free world.
Bearing the alleged connection to communism, Lumumba had to complete the difficult task of
unifying a vast landscape with many diverse ethnicities, languages, and political interests. The
province of Katanga posed the greatest threat to Lumumba in this respect. Katanga was extremely
important as it was the most wealthy and lucrative province in Congo, making it paramount to a
successful Congolese nation. Unfortunately for Congo, Moise Tshombe, the leader of Katanga, did not
see eye to eye with Lumumba. As demonstrated in film, the leaders of Katanga, with the support of
Belgium, sought to secede from the independent Congo, resulting in a frenzy as the soldiers led a
Katangese revolt. As a consequence, geopolitical tensions were at their zenith. Lumumba attempted to
quell this revolt with his own troops, but the new Congolese nation s army was untrained and
unorganized and thus was ineffectual in its response to the chaos.

Family Values In Death Of A Salesman, By Steve R. Centola
Summary and Analysis of Family Values in Death of a Salesman by Steve R. Centola
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller is interpreted differently by many people. In the critical review
titled Family Values in Death of a Salesman by Steve R. Centola, he characterizes Death of the
Salesman as am a modern tragedy. He draws more focus on the family core values and self exert. In
his analysis, he states that as the humans try to be competitive, they have dehumanized the American
dream and have turned it into an urban nightmare. He claims that the author simply tells a story of a
dying man who wants to justify the purpose of his life before he meets his death. He states that the
consequences of his choices are a challenge he has to overcome to attain what he needs. Centola
points out that through the realization of what Willy Loman values, it is easy to discover the reason for
the conflict between him and Biff. He refers to Death of a Salesman as a tragedy of a human struggle
that is rooted in the metaphysical and also based on the social and psychological concerns. He also
asserts that by discussing the values of Willy Loman, readers will be able to identify the reasons
behind Willy s agenda to perform suicide.
In his review, Steve appears to be more instructive on the way we approach the drama. In most of the
analysis he asserts the role of elaborating the scenes and giving a summary of what went on the
different acts. He also does criticize and uphold some of the decision which were taken by the author
of the story. Steve Upholds to the readers on the best areas and identifies different parts in the drama
that would be assessed.
He begins by highlighting the ways that Willy Loman views himself and how they ultimately affect
his life negatively. Willy often acts and dresses a creatin way to keep up this persona of a successful
business. However, when he looks into the mirror he sees a completely different image of himself.
Willys sees himself as a man who is very foolish to look at (1443), and he often tries to cover up his
insecurities by lying to himself and his family. He lies to cover up the fact that he is not happy with his
life, and feels that he has not accomplish enough. Ironically, it is these

Racial Prejudice By The Film Crash Essay
The term racial prejudice is defined as having a negative belief that is unfairly applied to all
individuals of an ethnic group even if such individuals have different characteristics as in personality,
appearance, and perspective. In society, many individuals believe that racial prejudice only focuses on
one particular social group, whereas others view racial prejudice pertaining to all races. However,
racial prejudice is without a doubt a phenomenon, one that isn t specific to one ethnic or social group,
instead prevalent in all groups of people that affect or are affected by the institution of racism.
Different associations and relationships play a vital role in how we perceive others, at times people

shows different ethnic groups that face challenges within their lives as they clash into one another by
certain situations. In addition, Crash itself also focuses on many racial prejudices that occur in society.
The film Crash highlights the very notion that racial prejudice is experienced by many groups because
various ethnic groups are constantly violated for having different physical appearances; mocked for
having a different culture, and excluded from opportunities within society s social structure.
Different ethnic groups all go through racial prejudice with one another. As one particular group goes

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mass Tourism
According to Burkart and Medlik (1974), mass tourism can be defined as a large numbers of people
visiting a destination at a time. Jafari s (1989, 2001) platform model explains the transition of the
tourism industry with 4 stages. These 4 stages are: Advocacy, Cautionary, Adaptancy and Knowledge
Based platform. The first stage would be Advocacy platform, this was when travelling was
encouraged as it does not only benefits the tourism sector but also other sectors such as the economic
sector which is the increase of revenues and employment and the sociocultural sector which creates
the opportunity for other to learn about the different cultures around the world. The following platform
would be Cautionary platform; this is when people start to be aware that there are not only positive
impacts but also negative impacts for the tourism destinations unless there is careful planning and
regulation imposed. For example, it creates jobs that do not require much skill set and it is mostly only
seasonal. Adaptancy platform would be when solutions start to arise in order to reduce the negative
impacts of tourism and also this is when there is an emergence of alternative tourism. ... Show more

Sustainable development is the economic development that is conducted with depleting natural

Reflection Paper On Probation
There was one day where I woke up feeling like if I was going to win the lottery and it gave me a
heads up that something good was going to just by the way I woke up. But at the time I was doing
badly, I was on probation trying to do good again. First I had to complete 10 hours of community
service so I can try to get off probation already , then I had to go pay a $350 fee because the charges I
had committed at Bartow by the court house , furthermore I had to complete my community hours at
my favorite church Saint Ann located in Haines city. I love that church so much, I use to go every
Sunday to church with my mom and dad so I didn t mind doing my hours there. My goal was to try to
do all those errands all in one day so I can show effort to my probation officer Mrs. Terry and get
released probation by next week . So the feeling on how the way I woke up, I felt like I can

Rose For Emily Respect
Respecting the elderly is a lesson that most people are taught early on, and there is good reason for it,
but respecting and enabling are not synonymous, especially when heinous crimes are committed. This
is exactly what happens in William Faulkner s Southern gothic short story A Rose For Emily or, at
least, that is the tale told on the surface. Underneath the story of an old disturbed woman s death is the
author s commentary on the nature of Southern pride and tendency to hold on to the past. Much like
the in the current day, the respect that old Southern ways demands from the region s inhabitants has
not changed and will likely remain a constant fixture for generations to come. Faulkner gets his
overarching theme of respect for the past across by using the characters of Miss Emily and the town as
a whole as symbols for the past that is respected and the living people that must continue. The
subgenre of Southern Gothic literature is one that explores all kinds of hard and gritty themes that can
often leave the reader chilled; one such theme that are explored in this particular piece of Southern ...

Gee Literacy Discourse
Identity is something that some people have a really hard time with, deciding who you are or who you
want to be seems like a simple task but for some the choice to choose who they want to be isn t always
their choice. James Paul Gee author of Literacy, Discourse, and Linguistic: Introduction talks about
identity and how people have different Discourses depending on what social situation a person is in.
Gee created and described Discourse as ways of being in the world; they are forms of life which
integrate words, acts, values, beliefs, attitudes, and social identities as well as gestures, body positions,
and clothes (Gee). Gee talks about how discourses are pretty much an identity kit , which means a

the San Jose State University policy that took place in 2009. The policy is about Freshmen students
who are required to take remedial classes since their math or English basic college level aren t good

The Drum Research Paper
The drums are one of humanities oldest musical instrument and, like all instruments, the drums
continue existing to this day as a method of communication. Previously drumming was often used as a
social mediator, played to bring together the community and act as a vehicle in carrying messages and
stories, alongside ceremonial use. However, within the last century, the drums have morphed radically
into their current potential purpose and capabilities. Drifting from their roots as a vehicle for the

Dynamics refers to the level of force used on the drum in order to create the desired volume.
Dynamics is necessary in all drumming in directing attention and suggesting what the audience should
be doing, thinking, feeling, etc., etc. The volume level is obviously different for the macrosystem of
drumming like the style and genre that s encompassing the music. Aloud and heavy four on the floor
wouldn t suit jazz as that s not what s trying to be conveyed, instead feathering is a more common jazz
use of the kick drum which involves lighter hit so it s not pronounced and oppressive to the rest of the
music; however, this heavy beat would be perfect for house or disco as it is much easier to dance to at
a nightclub, which is exactly what the drummer is going for in this setting. This demonstrates
dynamics relationship to the type of music, but it also varies within the microsystem the individuals
input of the drumming, on a beat by beat basis. The drummer again has to judge and monitor what
volume level they assume is appropriate, this refers to all of the strokes but also individual hits to
accentuate specific parts. This is a necessary part of microsystemic drumming as accents is
responsible for a lot of direction of where the music is going. It can build a crescendo in a fill or ease a

important symbol in 1984 because it s the face of the party and the leader behind the immense power.
The paperweight and Saint Clements Church are also very important symbols. The paperweight
represents his rebellion against big brother and takes him back to his childhood before the Party took
over, when you could have or do something just because it brings pleasure. Saint Clements Church
also represents his childhood memories before big brother came into power. Winston remembers a
couple of phrases from an old song based on Saint Clements Church. Oranges and lemons, say the

History of Astronomy
HISTORY OF ASTRONOMY
Astronomy is the oldest of the natural sciences, dating back to antiquity, with its origins in the
religious, mythological, and astrological practices of pre history: vestiges of these are still found in
astrology, a discipline long interwoven with public and governmental astronomy, and not completely
disentangled from it until a few centuries ago in the Western World . In some cultures astronomical
data was used for astrological prognostication.
Ancient astronomers were able to differentiate between stars and planets, as stars remain relatively
fixed over the centuries while planets will move an appreciable amount during a comparatively short
time.

Ancient Indian astrology is based upon sidereal calculation. The sidereal astronomy is based upon the
stars and the sidereal period is the time that it takes the object to make one full orbit around the Sun,
relative to the stars. It can be traced to the final centuries BC with the Vedanga Jyotisha attributed to
Lagadha, one of the circum Vedic texts, which describes rules for tracking the motions of the Sun and
the Moon for the purposes of ritual. After formation of Indo Greekkingdoms, Indian astronomy was
influenced by Hellenistic astronomy (adopting the zodiacal signs or rāśis). Identical numerical
computations for lunar cycles have been found to be used in India and in early Babylonian texts.[11]
Astronomy was advanced during the Sunga Empire and many star catalogues were produced during
this time. The Sunga period is known as the Golden age of astronomy in India .

The Surveillance Operations of the National Security Agency
The United States is founded on the concept of freedom freedom from the control of a government
that the people have no participation in or control over and freedom from tyranny. Throughout its
history the United States has often been forced to walk a difficult line and since the terrorist attacks of
September 11, 2001 that line has become increasingly blurred. The government must take certain
actions in order to provide security from those who seek to harm its citizens. But to what extent do the
citizens of the United States knowingly authorize the actions that are necessary for their protection,
and to what extent are they unaware or even purposefully deluded about the nature of such actions?
The leaking of documents by Edward Snowden beginning in June 2013 that revealed the surveillance
operations of the National Security Agency, or NSA, drew international attention to the question of
what governments can do in the name of protection and what crosses the line into unauthorized spying
on citizens. It also drew many comparisons to George Orwell s dystopian classic Nineteen Eighty
Four. After careful analysis of the novel it becomes clear that the NSA s actions bear some similarity
to the Big Brother of Nineteen Eighty Four, but there are some crucial differences that prevent the
United States from becoming the totalitarian society that Orwell warned against. Even though the
mass surveillance that the NSA performs is more encompassing than what the Party was capable of,

Canto 3 Of The Inferno Essay
Hell, the fiery eternal abyss has had profound influence on almost every aspect in our modern world.
Paintings and sculpture have been great tools to help us envision the realm of suffering. One of these
great sculptures is called the Gates of Hell, created by Auguste Rodin who was influenced by Dante
Alighieri s, Inferno. In the beginning of Canto 3 of the Inferno, Dante and Virgil are about to walk
through the gates to the underworld. Although the entrance is referred to as an arch in the Inferno this
gave Rodin a blank slate to work with. Auguste Rodin was older when he started this sculpture and
passed away before he could finish. His Gates have about two hundred miniature sculptures attached
all around and on the doors to depict the torments souls were condemned too. A few of these
individual sculptures were recreated on a larger scale because they were controversial masterpieces
such as the Thinker, The Kiss, and the Sinner. Rodin worked on this sculpture as a commission for a
museum but those plans fell through. It didn t stop Rodin from working on the sculpture for 37 years
to see his vision complete. Now, although Rodin s sculpture was to depict hell and the tormented, I
found a different interpretation of the sculpture. I believe rather than being a depiction of Hell, the
Gates of Hell sculpture appears to be a tragic insight of lost love because of the romance in the
sculpture that create scenes of grieving by the Thinker. When the individual pieces are analyzed

Conceptually, Denzer appears to conflate the phases of violence, discrediting the belief that violence
transpires through stages. In a Denzerian world, the international system is bifurcated between
violence and nonviolence. In his assessment of financial resilience through public sentiments, Denzer
s overinvestment in evidence that measures peace through actual violence versus potential violence
discredits various disputes that have escalated diplomatically, but have yet to turn violent. Denzer
supposes that all liberalizing change must involve varying degrees of violence, ipso facto breaching a
threshold of peace. Denzer profoundly overlooks the generally peaceful regime changes in Egypt and
Tunisia, which, like so many others, were predominantly led by civil disobedience, civil resistance,

school being put on the back burner? Yes, most homework responsibilities are not of concern, but our
school break is only nine days. With nine days, I don t believe that all individuals including himself
are duty and completely worry free. I don t know about most people, but merely because school is put
on hold does not relieve all the worries in the back of my mind. Those issues will always be their
haunting me and producing stress until they are resolved, and trust me I do not want to deal with them
over a well deserved break. However, this is all just apart of life whether we attempt to enjoy the free
time given to us or not. With that being said, the short interruption with school does not create a stress
free environment where I am allowed to enjoy myself. Whether it s the last minute Christmas baking,
gift wrapping or a cramped work schedule, I do not categorize that as a way to enjoy my break as
Roman makes clear in his paper. I find pleasure in the easy aspects such as the hour long naps and
drinking a steaming cup of hot cocoa by the blazing fire. I only wish to be like Roman over the break
when he expresses, ...having less responsibilities... in his paper. Because frankly those pleasures are
not a reality for myself this Christmas break. I don t know

Hezbollah Causes
Hezbollah is a Shia militia in southern Lebanon that aims to destroy Israel in order to help spread Pan
Islam throughout the Middle East, get the Palestinians that are taking their land out of Lebanon, and
repay the Israelis for their abusive occupation. Hezbollah s actions are inspired by the principles of
Shia islam that make the militiamen willing to die to become a martyr and to better Islam. Although
Hezbollah is in Lebanon, it is largely an extension of Iran, who began funding them after their Islamic
revolution in 1979. Before the Iranian revolution, Hezbollah had only begun to form but had not yet
occupied a large presence in Lebanon. The formation of Hezbollah began with Israel and King
Hussein s joint effort to kick the PLO out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the battle of Karbala, Hussein and all of his family members were slaughtered, but they died in
honor, and were all known as martyrs. Shia muslims today wish that they could have been on that
battlefield and could have died fighting for Islam. At the ceremony of Ashura that commemorates the
battle of Karbala, men and young boys crack their heads open and parade for hours while tapping their
heads. The immense blood loss causes them to feel an intense and sedated happiness, with the rapid
release of endorphins and serotonin. To Shia muslims, this indicates that hey have gone to heaven. To
them, the intense happiness that they feel as blood flows from their heads marks God coming down,
and them getting to feel what heaven is like. This incredible feeling, along with the honor of being a
martyr, is why the Shia members of Hezbollah are so willing to die for Islam. With no other options to
resort to, many suicide bombings were executed as Shia muslims wanted to help the cause of Islam
and its pre destination and become a martyr, which would give their family much honor. Also, they
will be able to have the intense happiness of heaven that they experience during Ashura after dying for
Islam. These suicide bombings caused the death of hundreds of Israelis at the expense of only one
Hezbollah militiaman, which enabled Hezbollah to

Women Fat Research Paper
Fats in the human body are stored in cells known as adipocytes. Adipocytes, also known as lipocytes
and fat cells, are the cells that primarily compose adipose tissue, specialized in storing energy as fat.
Fat can also be stored as droplets in skeletal muscle cells that hold about 2,000 3,000 kilocalories.
Some fat even flows freely through the blood in a human body. Fat is one of the three macronutrients.
Macronutrients are substance required in large quantities in a living organism. Other than fat, proteins
and carbohydrates are macronutrients. Women can carry more fat than women. The fat in a woman
represents around 18% 20% of her body weight. The fat in a man only represents about 10% 15% of
his body weight. There is one main reason for this. That reason being ... Show more content on

Women also often metabolize fat faster than men. Women are also better at burning fat in exercise
than men, making it easier for them to lose the fat that they gain. During exercise, women exhibit less
respiratory exchange ratios than men. This means that women have more fat burning and less carb
burning. Although women can mostly lose fat quicker than men, they can gain it quicker to. Women
make more triglycerides, which is an ester derived from glycerol and fatty acids, than men do. This
means that the fat is being taken up into the adipose tissue at a higher rate in women than men. Also,
even if women generally burn fat simpler, they are more have a higher overall obesity rate compared
to men. 25 percent of adult women in the United States are obese and 20 percent of adult men are
obese in the United States. Men generally carry their weight and fat in their abdominal area, or they
have an android body type. Most women carry their fat and weight in their hips and thighs, which is a
pear body type. The difference in the shape of the bod has reasons that are unknown, but theorists
believe that it is based on differences in

WW1 Canadian Vets and Post-War Veterans Assistance
The assistance that the war veterans receive in Canada today is considered one of the best in the
world. With assistance programs that provide support to the veterans in the form of attentive health
care, health insurance, health related travel expenses, assisted living, career training, rehabilitation,
financial benefits, and much more. But, this wasn t always the case with the Veterans Assistance
Commission in Canada. Very little was done prior to WW1, for the war veterans. Even though much
difference was promised and greater commitments were made by the Canadian government during
and after the First World War, it still was not nearly enough. Pensions were denied to deserving
candidates, assistance was provided to many in a form that was ... Show more content on

The following is the recollection of the said programs that the veterans bore witness to, and the
evolution it went through.
Due to the heavy nature of the First World War, the Government of Canada, in 1915, established the
Military Hospitals Commission. During the course of the war this commission experienced amazing
growth, and by 1918, the commission was accommodating nearly 11,000 beds across 50 hospitals and
sanatoria ranging all the way from Halifax to Vancouver. This event is what led to the universal health
care enjoyed by all Canadians today. On February 21st, 1918, Sir James Lougheed created the
Department of Soldiers Re establishment, with the primary focus to help the returning veterans. This
department transferred most of the resources from the Military Hospitals Commission to the army, in
order to rehabilitate the minors that enlisted and the returning disabled. Under this department, the
medical professionals provided voluntary treatment to nearly 100,000 veterans. The department also
provided 40,000 veterans with vocational training in 140 different occupations. Unfortunately, despite
such grand efforts; many, if not most, of the veterans who took benefit from the vocational training
never ended up finding employment, or were not able to make an adequate living from it because of
the Great Depression that followed the war.
By the year 1919, the Pension Act was passed for the disabled

All Men Are Created Equal Dbq
All men are created equal , though this would be a fact of the Western World society today, it was
certainly not always that way. With the beginning of slavery in the 1600s, to becoming the main cause
of the Civil War and abolishment of it, here is slavery; from the Union s point of view.
The earliest form of slavery in North America can be traced back to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619.
There, they were called the Twenty and Odd and considered servants rather than slaves. Though little
is known about this infamous event, this trade continued of capturing Africans from Africa and
bringing them to the colonies of Britain. The usage of slaves increased and were often used as field
laborers on plantations, house workers, blacksmiths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had more supplies, better outfits and an efficient way to make weapons compared to the South.
By the end of the war, there were roughly 198,000 African Americans in the Civil War. This was a
controversy for not only some of the Union who refused to fight alongside an African American, but
also for the South who would see them in combat. There were disputes among both sides over the
Union taking slaves from the South and ultimately rescuing them. Though the North claimed it was
legal, considering slaves were property and both sides were allowed to raid and confiscate property
from each other. This was particular accomplishment on the Union s half, for it took the Confederate s
words and used them against them.
The Union won the war and slavery was officially abolished with the thirteenth amendment in 1865.
This great accomplishment brought America one step closer to equality, though there is still work to
be done today in the Western World. Though this resolution leaves the future bright for all places in

  • 3. The Fax Machine – A Constantly Evolving Technology... Despite the availability of advanced modern day technologies for transferring documents worldwide, the fax machine, a technology developed way back in 1843, continues to persist in homes and offices even today. Considering the fact that this technology is more than a century old, it should have already joined the telegraphs and pagers in antique shops by now. Surprisingly however, instead of going obsolete, fax machines have continued to evolve, adapt and conform to the requirements of modern telecommunications. The fax machine had already made its mark as an office workhorse back in the 1980s, and has continued to appear on business cards ever since! Although threatened by far more advanced and preferable technologies like scanners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Newspapers and weather services were the earliest users of fax machines for transferring photographs and weather maps across the world. The use of fax machines was however limited because of their expensive nature and difficulty of operation. However, by 1980, telephone based fax machines had gained immense popularity because of their reduced prices and fixed Grade 3 standards of operation. About a million fax machines were sold in 1988 alone, and they became the fastest selling machines adorning homes and office desktops word wide. Fax machines proved to be of immense utility to the Japanese. The Japanese alphabet has thousands of characters, and keypads can only afford a limited number of keys. Fax machines provided the Japanese an easy way to transfer their written documents. According to the American facsimile association, about 50% of all calls made in the 1980s to the US from Japan were to fax machines. Frank Vizard, contributing editor of the Popular Mechanics magazine, writes that increasing popularity of fax machines blurred the line between the home and the office, as business documents could easily be faxed to homes within seconds. People dealt with work related documents from the comforts of their homes. Fax machines soon replaced postal mailboxes and reduced the time of delivery of documents. This was both a convenience as well as an inconvenience, as people could no longer find an excuse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This unsaturation is in the form of double bonds which react with iodine compounds. The higher the iodine number, the more unsaturated fatty acid bonds are present in a fat. In a typical procedure the acid is treated with an excess of Wij s iodine solution which a solution of iodine monochloride (ICl) in glacial acetic acid. The iodine concentration is then determined by titration with sodium thiosulfate. Iodine value is the average unsaturation measurement in fat sample. Although iodine value is expressed as the weight of iodine added to 100 g of sample, the analytical procedure used to determine the iodine normally use iodine monochloride in acetic acid solution (Wijs reagent) as halogenations agent. The last thing they need is for someone to judge their beliefs. We should still and forever follow the wise words of the poem, The New Colossus . It represents everything that America stands for. The main theme in the play is racism, and the characters Hally, Sam and Willy confront its realities in various ways throughout the play. Fugard uses symbolism as a way to explore racial tensions. He uses four key symbols to establish the themes of racism and division as well as hope, freedom and harmony. These include the meaning of the segregated bench, the flying kite, the ballroom dancing and the crippled father. Hally s favorite memory as a young boy is flying a kite with Sam in the park. Flying the kite symbolizes overcoming racial barriers between black and white people. Sam makes the kite for Hally to help him overcome his sense of shame because of his father s drunkenness. Unfortunately, a bundle of people only focus on a single passage and misrepresent the whole sutta. More details of this will be explored further in the later section, Buddhism and Authority. In The Buddha s Charter of Free Inquiry Soma Thera says that the Kālāma Sutta is teaching to the Kālāmas but is also an incentive of free inquiry. The teaching is exemption from the authoritative dogmas, intolerance and personal interest. He further insisted that if one were to discern the discourse correctly, wisdom is processed throughout. The sutta, he said, is very obvious in rejecting the bad and adopting the good way... the place of critical examination and analysis in the development of right vision. Buddha s insight into the matter of judgment is beyond our normal understanding. As the four solaces show that a noble life is not about faith in rebirth and retribution. Instead, it is about happiness of the mind by conquering our own avarice, enmity, and ignorance. Basically, the teaching is for everyone. Yimaj Sherif ENG 1520 Dr.James 16 August 2015 Minnsincsndcdcsdc Minimum wage is an issue that is causing uproar amongst working class citizens. For many workers, a simple increase of 30% in the federal minimum wage could be the difference between living in or out of poverty. Over the past few decades there have been countless increases in salaries, although none of those went to people who actually needed it. To this day the rich continue to get richer, vastly increasing their wealth, while the poor are struggling to provide basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing. While the rich keep get richer and the poor continue getting poorer, we have seen a decrease in the middle class; median income has turned into upper or lower middle class. Establishing legislation that provides workers with a wage that is able to sustain simple necessities is necessary, it would provide ample support for those who may not have been able to afford living to take a step away from poverty and move into the middle class. The minimum wage was set with the passage of The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA). Its initial price point was $0.25 per hour, and it has been raised twenty two times since. It allowed for federal protections against employers like minimum wage, overtime pay for time worked over a set number of hours in a workweek, restrictions on the employment of children, and recordkeeping requirements (uc davis). Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of Congo, was instrumental in the Congolese bid for independence, and played a similar role in the early stages of postcolonial Congo, known as the Congo Crisis . In the new Congolese nation, Lumumba was faced with the challenge of unifying a large African nation with difficulties arising from Cold war influences and geopolitical tensions. The short term success of communist and other highly centralized governments was enticing to Lumumba, so he turned to a strong centralized government as his way of unifying Congo. In the context of the Cold War, with fears and tensions at an all time high, this methodology alarmed the nations of the free world. The Belgians and opposing political parties propagated the rumors of Lumumba s communist tendencies, vilifying Lumumba. As Lumumba later found out, this was an unfortunate resemblance to bear in the free world. Bearing the alleged connection to communism, Lumumba had to complete the difficult task of unifying a vast landscape with many diverse ethnicities, languages, and political interests. The province of Katanga posed the greatest threat to Lumumba in this respect. Katanga was extremely important as it was the most wealthy and lucrative province in Congo, making it paramount to a successful Congolese nation. Unfortunately for Congo, Moise Tshombe, the leader of Katanga, did not see eye to eye with Lumumba. As demonstrated in film, the leaders of Katanga, with the support of Belgium, sought to secede from the independent Congo, resulting in a frenzy as the soldiers led a Katangese revolt. As a consequence, geopolitical tensions were at their zenith. Lumumba attempted to quell this revolt with his own troops, but the new Congolese nation s army was untrained and unorganized and thus was ineffectual in its response to the chaos. ... • 21. Family Values In Death Of A Salesman, By Steve R. Centola Summary and Analysis of Family Values in Death of a Salesman by Steve R. Centola Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller is interpreted differently by many people. In the critical review titled Family Values in Death of a Salesman by Steve R. Centola, he characterizes Death of the Salesman as am a modern tragedy. He draws more focus on the family core values and self exert. In his analysis, he states that as the humans try to be competitive, they have dehumanized the American dream and have turned it into an urban nightmare. He claims that the author simply tells a story of a dying man who wants to justify the purpose of his life before he meets his death. He states that the consequences of his choices are a challenge he has to overcome to attain what he needs. Centola points out that through the realization of what Willy Loman values, it is easy to discover the reason for the conflict between him and Biff. He refers to Death of a Salesman as a tragedy of a human struggle that is rooted in the metaphysical and also based on the social and psychological concerns. He also asserts that by discussing the values of Willy Loman, readers will be able to identify the reasons behind Willy s agenda to perform suicide. In his review, Steve appears to be more instructive on the way we approach the drama. In most of the analysis he asserts the role of elaborating the scenes and giving a summary of what went on the different acts. • 22. Racial Prejudice By The Film Crash Essay The term racial prejudice is defined as having a negative belief that is unfairly applied to all individuals of an ethnic group even if such individuals have different characteristics as in personality, appearance, and perspective. In society, many individuals believe that racial prejudice only focuses on one particular social group, whereas others view racial prejudice pertaining to all races. However, racial prejudice is without a doubt a phenomenon, one that isn t specific to one ethnic or social group, instead prevalent in all groups of people that affect or are affected by the institution of racism. Different associations and relationships play a vital role in how we perceive others, at times people view others through the lens of racial prejudice. Crash, a movie directed by (put director s name), shows different ethnic groups that face challenges within their lives as they clash into one another by certain situations. In addition, Crash itself also focuses on many racial prejudices that occur in society. The film Crash highlights the very notion that racial prejudice is experienced by many groups because various ethnic groups are constantly violated for having different physical appearances; mocked for having a different culture, and excluded from opportunities within society s social structure. Different ethnic groups all go through racial prejudice with one another. As one particular group goes through being physically or verbally violated, so does other social ... Jafari s (1989, 2001) platform model explains the transition of the tourism industry with 4 stages. These 4 stages are: Advocacy, Cautionary, Adaptancy and Knowledge Based platform. The first stage would be Advocacy platform, this was when travelling was encouraged as it does not only benefits the tourism sector but also other sectors such as the economic sector which is the increase of revenues and employment and the sociocultural sector which creates the opportunity for other to learn about the different cultures around the world. The following platform would be Cautionary platform; this is when people start to be aware that there are not only positive impacts but also negative impacts for the tourism destinations unless there is careful planning and regulation imposed. For example, it creates jobs that do not require much skill set and it is mostly only seasonal. Rose For Emily Respect Respecting the elderly is a lesson that most people are taught early on, and there is good reason for it, but respecting and enabling are not synonymous, especially when heinous crimes are committed. This is exactly what happens in William Faulkner s Southern gothic short story A Rose For Emily or, at least, that is the tale told on the surface. Underneath the story of an old disturbed woman s death is the author s commentary on the nature of Southern pride and tendency to hold on to the past. Much like the in the current day, the respect that old Southern ways demands from the region s inhabitants has not changed and will likely remain a constant fixture for generations to come. Faulkner gets his overarching theme of respect for the past across by using the characters of Miss Emily and the town as a whole as symbols for the past that is respected and the living people that must continue. Throughout its history the United States has often been forced to walk a difficult line and since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 that line has become increasingly blurred. The government must take certain actions in order to provide security from those who seek to harm its citizens. But to what extent do the citizens of the United States knowingly authorize the actions that are necessary for their protection, and to what extent are they unaware or even purposefully deluded about the nature of such actions? The leaking of documents by Edward Snowden beginning in June 2013 that revealed the surveillance operations of the National Security Agency, or NSA, drew international attention to the question of what governments can do in the name of protection and what crosses the line into unauthorized spying on citizens. Paintings and sculpture have been great tools to help us envision the realm of suffering. One of these great sculptures is called the Gates of Hell, created by Auguste Rodin who was influenced by Dante Alighieri s, Inferno. In the beginning of Canto 3 of the Inferno, Dante and Virgil are about to walk through the gates to the underworld. Although the entrance is referred to as an arch in the Inferno this gave Rodin a blank slate to work with. Auguste Rodin was older when he started this sculpture and passed away before he could finish. His Gates have about two hundred miniature sculptures attached all around and on the doors to depict the torments souls were condemned too. A few of these individual sculptures were recreated on a larger scale because they were controversial masterpieces such as the Thinker, The Kiss, and the Sinner. Rodin worked on this sculpture as a commission for a museum but those plans fell through. It didn t stop Rodin from working on the sculpture for 37 years to see his vision complete. Now, although Rodin s sculpture was to depict hell and the tormented, I found a different interpretation of the sculpture. Denzer profoundly overlooks the generally peaceful regime changes in Egypt and Tunisia, which, like so many others, were predominantly led by civil disobedience, civil resistance, and online activism, rarely intensifying into violent demonstrations. Take for example China and Japan s diplomatic clash over the contested Senkaku Islands. For four decades, Chinese and Japanese grievances have been reshaped in light of new regional expectations and financial conditions. In Japan s case, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Importance Of School Break When I hear one say, specifically Roman Hebel, With school out of the picture, I can be stress free and happy it evokes many questions and stress inside. How does one s stress disappear simply due to school being put on the back burner? Yes, most homework responsibilities are not of concern, but our school break is only nine days. With nine days, I don t believe that all individuals including himself are duty and completely worry free. I don t know about most people, but merely because school is put on hold does not relieve all the worries in the back of my mind. Those issues will always be their haunting me and producing stress until they are resolved, and trust me I do not want to deal with them over a well deserved break. However, this is all just apart of life whether we attempt to enjoy the free time given to us or not. With that being said, the short interruption with school does not create a stress free environment where I am allowed to enjoy myself. Whether it s the last minute Christmas baking, gift wrapping or a cramped work schedule, I do not categorize that as a way to enjoy my break as Roman makes clear in his paper. I find pleasure in the easy aspects such as the hour long naps and drinking a steaming cup of hot cocoa by the blazing fire. I only wish to be like Roman over the break when he expresses, ...having less responsibilities... in his paper. Because frankly those pleasures are not a reality for myself this Christmas break. Although Hezbollah is in Lebanon, it is largely an extension of Iran, who began funding them after their Islamic revolution in 1979. At the battle of Karbala, Hussein and all of his family members were slaughtered, but they died in honor, and were all known as martyrs. Shia muslims today wish that they could have been on that battlefield and could have died fighting for Islam. At the ceremony of Ashura that commemorates the battle of Karbala, men and young boys crack their heads open and parade for hours while tapping their heads. The immense blood loss causes them to feel an intense and sedated happiness, with the rapid release of endorphins and serotonin. To Shia muslims, this indicates that hey have gone to heaven. To them, the intense happiness that they feel as blood flows from their heads marks God coming down, and them getting to feel what heaven is like. This incredible feeling, along with the honor of being a martyr, is why the Shia members of Hezbollah are so willing to die for Islam. With no other options to resort to, many suicide bombings were executed as Shia muslims wanted to help the cause of Islam and its pre destination and become a martyr, which would give their family much honor. Also, they will be able to have the intense happiness of heaven that they experience during Ashura after dying for Islam. These suicide bombings caused the death of hundreds of Israelis at the expense of only one Hezbollah militiaman, which enabled Hezbollah to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With assistance programs that provide support to the veterans in the form of attentive health care, health insurance, health related travel expenses, assisted living, career training, rehabilitation, financial benefits, and much more. But, this wasn t always the case with the Veterans Assistance Commission in Canada. Very little was done prior to WW1, for the war veterans. The following is the recollection of the said programs that the veterans bore witness to, and the evolution it went through. Due to the heavy nature of the First World War, the Government of Canada, in 1915, established the Military Hospitals Commission. During the course of the war this commission experienced amazing growth, and by 1918, the commission was accommodating nearly 11,000 beds across 50 hospitals and sanatoria ranging all the way from Halifax to Vancouver. This event is what led to the universal health care enjoyed by all Canadians today. On February 21st, 1918, Sir James Lougheed created the Department of Soldiers Re establishment, with the primary focus to help the returning veterans. This department transferred most of the resources from the Military Hospitals Commission to the army, in order to rehabilitate the minors that enlisted and the returning disabled. Under this department, the medical professionals provided voluntary treatment to nearly 100,000 veterans. The department also provided 40,000 veterans with vocational training in 140 different occupations. Unfortunately, despite such grand efforts; many, if not most, of the veterans who took benefit from the vocational training never ended up finding employment, or were not able to make an adequate living from it because of the Great Depression that followed the war. With the beginning of slavery in the 1600s, to becoming the main cause of the Civil War and abolishment of it, here is slavery; from the Union s point of view. The earliest form of slavery in North America can be traced back to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619. There, they were called the Twenty and Odd and considered servants rather than slaves. They had more supplies, better outfits and an efficient way to make weapons compared to the South. By the end of the war, there were roughly 198,000 African Americans in the Civil War. This was a controversy for not only some of the Union who refused to fight alongside an African American, but also for the South who would see them in combat. There were disputes among both sides over the Union taking slaves from the South and ultimately rescuing them. Though the North claimed it was legal, considering slaves were property and both sides were allowed to raid and confiscate property from each other. This was particular accomplishment on the Union s half, for it took the Confederate s words and used them against them. The Union won the war and slavery was officially abolished with the thirteenth amendment in 1865.
