The Impact Of Media On The Performance Of Gender
Evaluate the role of media in the performance of gender. Media is the most powerful tool of
communication in today s society, and it represents a constructive role, as without media it wouldn
t be possible to collect any knowledge and information. Media has an essential role of representing
differences as well constructing them; it presents differences regards to race, culture, and many
other structural variables in a certain way, yet within all the differences genderbinary is
conspicuous from the birth. Media has a responsible role in the society, due to the fact that its
construction of masculinity and femininity images has a significant influence on how the
individual s life is lead. The way media represents gender has changed throughout the history, and
still changes over time, and these changes implicates our everyday lives albeit we are conscious of
it or not. It is initially crucial to engage with the theories about the complexities of gender, and gain
an in depth insight of how one can perform gender in order to understand the impact of media on
shaping our lives through constructing our understanding of gender. Secondly, after comprehending
media s massive influence on our perception, analysing contemporary media examples will be
helpful to embody this impact on our identities, and everyday lives.
From the very beginning of our lives, gender is the most outstanding difference that distinguishes
one from another, yet gender is much more complex than we would

Gram Staining Paper
Background:
Bacteria is a single celled prokaryote microorganisms, rapid mutations causes bacteria can be
found just about anywhere.Gram staining helps to classify two groups of bacteria, Gram positive
and Gram negative. Gram positive bacteria s cell wall has a stronger attraction for crystal violet,
because of more peptidoglycan. Gram negative is a group of bacteria that doesn t retain the crystal
violet stain used in the Gram staining method, making positive identification possible. These are
the many characteristics used to describe the morphology of a bacterial colony; size, shape, color,
texture, height, and edge. Bacteria can be prokaryotic organisms, they lack a nucleus and
membrane bound organelles. Most are unicellular, but some species live ... Show more content on

Pollution and Environment Essay
A Modest Proposal for Methanol and Ethanol Powered Cars We need more stringent regulations
on car emissions... Let s add MTBE to the fuel that will reduce pollution... If people would just
stop driving so much, pollution wouldn t be so bad... People have long recognized the problems
with the gasoline we used now. We have tried everything from putting regulations on emissions, to
putting additives in the gasoline (only to discover later that MTBE got into the groundwater), to
campaigns to get people off the road. However, more and more cars are on the roads as the
population increases, and people are not going to stop driving. Additives are as likely to cause
problems as they are to prevent them. Just changing the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To help protect the environment, our health, and our economic independence, the government
should use all the revenues from the taxes on dirty fossil fuels to subsidize research and the
production of alcohol burning cars. Problems with Cleaner Fuel Of course there are reasons
why we have not converted to alcohol burning vehicles before. Ethanol costs more per gallon
than gasoline. However, new technologies have the potential to produce ethanol at significantly
smaller costs. Methanol, a high performance liquid fuel made from wood or coal, can be
produced at prices comparable to the prices of gasoline and natural gas. In addition, oil does not
occur naturally in unlimited supply, and just in the past few years, gas prices have been
increasing dramatically. Those prices will not fall back down. However, the introduction of an
inexpensive alcohol based fuel would provide an alternative means of power and give
consumers more choices. Some people argue that decreasing the oil we use would harm the
economies of countries like Venezuela that depend on America buying their oil. However, as
third world countries grow and develop, they will also need fuel sources and the United States has
no right to monopolize large portions of the available resources. Besides, it is not the responsibility
of the United States to provide markets for all companies in the world. Markets come and go, and

If an intervening mass can align perfectly with a background source then it will bend the light
creating a ring of light around the object. This is known as Einstein s ring and depending on the
mass of the object will determine the size of the ring, a larger mass results in a larger ring.
(Richmond, 2015)
Our universe is 85% dark matter, dark matter may be invisible but it still has mass and therefore
when light travels towards it, it will bend around them matter causing gravitational lensing. All
objects can bend light but usually the change is not measurable on smaller objects such as humans,
for any substantial bend to occur it would take a huge mass and a light ray to travel extremely
close to the matter. When the light bends it can alters the shape of the image, with a galaxyfor
example it can bend or warp the shape which is normally elliptical or spiral looking. (Grocutt, 2015)
An accretion disk is formed when rocks, gasses and other satellites travel close to a black hole;
they are sucked into the gravitational field (StrongGravity, 2013). A black hole is a place in
space where the gravitational field is so great that not even light can escape it. This is because
matter has been compressed into such a confined space; this can occur when a star is dying for
example (Smith, 2008). Once trapped in the gravitational field the rocks and

Introductory. Something That Humans All Have In Common,
Introductory Something that humans all have in common, is aging. Every single one of us ages
and as we age a lot of us get to have a friend along the way. That friend is aching pain. This aching
pain can stem from a certain disease, named osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common
rheumatic disease, primarily affecting the articular cartilage and the subchondral bone of a synovial
joint, eventually resulting in joint failure. (Fransen, 2015) Chances are that someone close to you
has osteoarthritis as it is a very prevalent chronic disease. Living with a chronic disease does not

Exercise is something that can easily be taught to patients and nurses have the prime opportunity
to educate patients that are at risk or have osteoarthritis before they need a joint replacement
surgery. Mobility is a huge part of each individual s life and joints play a crucial role in one s
mobility. When a joint s function decreases a person s mobility, many other things are at risk to
decrease as well such as skin integrity and the cardiovascular system. As a nurse, it is important to
treat patients holistically and when one part is not functioning, such as the joint, it is our job to
bring function back to improve one s health overall.
Methods
Many of the studies reviewed followed similar methods to collecting data related to exercise and
knee osteoarthritis. There were many systematic reviews that supported this PICO question and
determined whether land based therapeutic exercise is beneficial for people with knee
osteoarthritis in terms of reduced joint pain or improved physical function and quality of life. All
of the studies had searched various databases, which included, MEDLINE, EMBASE, The
Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), the Cumulative Index to Nursing and
Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Google
scholar and OpenGrey. Randomized control trials were put to use and

STP Analysis
Segmentation:
The segmentation for laptop market can be done on the following three parameters: * Geographic:
North America, Europe, Asia. * Demographic: Size of the customer, region of the customer. *
Psychographic: Preference of the User, basic or advanced usage.
Demographic
* Size of the customer: It can be divided as being further classified into the large users, the small
and the medium businesses (SMBs) and individual users. * Region: The major region for a laptop
comes from the big cities and educational and employment hubs. Apart from there, the upcountry
markets are a major growth area.
Psychographic
* Preference of the User: The users can be further segmented on the basis of the high end models
which are style and configuration conscious and users which are mid end users and use the laptops
according to their needs. * Usage: This pertains to users who use laptops for advanced application
development, network users and software professionals. The other user segment has a usage for fun
purposes, net browsing, office applications and social networking purposes.

The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay
Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye
Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience
through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate
product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist,
she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of
other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then
blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate
our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality,
Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely
experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a
postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of
Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person,
there is little to no record of her past or current life online. In an interview with the San Francisco
Bay Guardian, she explains that because she had a lot going on in [her] home that was kind of
crazy, dance became the fluid structure that afforded her the space to finally express who she
really was. A member of Doug Varone and dancers, she

Aristocratic families enjoyed considerable wealth, especially in the Attica area, where Athenians
discovered silver. In Athens, as in other Greek city states, political power was in the hands of
several large aristocratic families which controlled large areas of Attica (Agathe, n.d). Political
office was linked to land property and military professionalism, and most of the Attica s people
had no role in the political life. Appointment to the supreme offices of state went by birth and
wealth, and they were held at first for life, and afterward for a term of ten years (Agathe, n.d, p. 2).

The Ethics of File Sharing Software Essay
The Ethics of File Sharing Software
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ethical problem that file sharing software
creates when used to transfer copy written material. It is contested that the very existence of this
software promotes piracy. The paper will focus on the creators of the file sharing software, knowing
that the user employs their product illegally. The software creators (Kazaa, Grokster, Morpheus,
etc) are claiming that they cannot control what the end user does with its product. In fact, this point
has been upheld by a recent court ruling.
As music and movies are now available almost exclusively in digital formats (CD and DVDs), the
ease of copying them to computers is easy. And... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the entire concept behind the Napster model.
This approach worked great and made fantastic use of the Internet s architecture. By spreading the
load for file downloading across millions of machines, Napster accomplished what would have
been impossible any other way. The central database for song titles was Napster s Achilles heel.
When the court ordered Napster to stop the music, the absence of a central database killed the
entire Napster network. With Napster gone, what you had at that point was something like 100
million people around the world hungry to share more and more files. It was only a matter of time
before another system came along to fill the gap.[ii]
Napster made downloading music over the Internet common practice. Since the Federal
Government closed Napster, several new alternatives for file sharing have been creates. Kazaa,
Morpheus, Gnutella all rely on peer to peer networking rather than a central server. Copyrighted
materials continue to be distributed through peer to peer file sharing, but these systems are more
difficult to shut down due to their decentralized control. Unlike Napster, which relied on central
file servers, most new systems use a decentralized approach that relies on the local networks and
computer resources of individual users. The peer to peer approach to file sharing requires
cooperation among users and depends on the central processing unit (CPU), memory, and network

Fine and his team to travel to Newark to examine the children s health. The study design for the
longitudinal study of AA was to assess Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans carriage in
relation to the initiation of LAP in healthy children from Newark. For the analysis, some samples
were retrieved from the initial visit and prior visit, which included saliva and plaque. After
collection of samples, the sites were evaluated for any bone loss and evaluation of any healthy
remain in some patients. The diseased patients were matched with AA positive and healthy
patients were matched with AA negative. The time frame for this study was to follow the
patients every 6 months and have a new study every 3 months to obtain more clinical samples. A
healthy patient would have 5 mm pockets or less while a diseased patient would have
radiographic evidence of bone loss plus a shadow showing an interproximal bone loss. The goal
of this study was to find biomarkers (microbial and host) that occurs in early stages of the
disease and was divided into three stages: selection visit, screening visit, and follow up visits.
Selection visit was to evaluate 2500 children (11 14 years of age) and collect the BECs and
saliva for AA carriage assessment (in classroom) and assessment of host factors (for the lab).
During the screening visit, 250 AA positive and 250 AA negative adolescents were determined
to see if they were periodontally healthy; this included a collection of BECs (bacteria) and saliva
(host). For the follow up visits during the longitudinal phase, there was 170 AA positive and 210
AA negative (qualified as healthy). The main goals for the follow up visits were to compare
subjects who develop disease to who remains healthy and to examine for host and microbial
markers in these two groups of subjects during several visits prior to disease

End Of The Minoans Essay
Rulers, Religion, The End Of The Minoans
The Minoans didn t mind mixing religion with politics. In fact, the rulers of Crete were called
priest kings, which means they served as both the religious and political leaders of their people.
The priest kings represented the gods and made laws. Each priest king would often climb to the
top of Mount Juktas to look for signs from the gods. Then, the priest king would tell his people
what the gods wanted them to do.
The Minoans had many gods, which made them polytheists (People who believe in many gods

Propaganda Techniques Today s Advertising By Anne Mcclintock
In the essay, Propaganda Techniques in Today s Advertising by Anne McClintock, McClintock
shows seven different ways that propaganda is used. One mostly used by advertisement today
would be Glittering Generalities, using positive words to bring attraction to their product while
concealing the actual meanings. They will use inspiring words that are very vague that the
consumer would not really understand what the product would really do to benefit them but
would be inspired to buy it anyways. Another technique mostly used would be Testimonial, were
producers would pay celebrities to advertise their product for them since they have more fame
than normal actors. Advertisement used today is targeted to make the consumer believe that
what they are paying for is the real deal when it is only beneficial for the producers.
Advertisements are used to promote a product by the positive effects enthusiastically but when
describing the side effects they are done fast and in small letters. When one watches a
commercial in the television, or hears it on the radio, one mostly hears the what the producers
wants them to hear. They will explain their product, giving the pros of what it was made to do
and how its a better option than other products in the market. When they are done with their sale
at the very end most of commercials give you in small font the rest of the financial information,
additional fees, or even side effects with a very fast voice most of the time reading it to you.

A name that once reminded him of that horrifying day he almost died now brings him joy. Towards
the end, Gogol regrets changing his name the name that meant so much to his father.
Gogol frowns, and his lower lip trembles. Only then, forced at six months to confront his destiny,
does he begin to cry. This quote especially makes me think of how he s already rejecting his
cultural traditions such as picking a dollar bill, some dirt, or a ballpoint pen to see what his

Medicine And Becoming A Doctor
I was perplexed and concerned when I realized that over the span of about three years my mother
had kept to herself information about her developing anemia, kidney problems due to past kidney
stones, chronic back pain, and now arthritic nodes on her fingers. These are some of the symptoms
that I see, and am reminded of daily, when I am around my hardworking mother, who has motivated
me to pursue a medical degree.
My desire to learn about medicine and become a doctor did not start at a young age or even in high
school. As a high school graduate going into college, my desire was to earn a science degree with
the purpose of attaining an MPH. Overall, what intrigued me the most in this profession was its
involvement in communities and third world countries. It was finally during winter break of my
junior year that I started to have doubts about pursuing an MPH, primarily because of the condition
and state that my mother was in.
Upon hearing her speak about her medical problems I was worried, but above all else concerned
by the irony of how she was always dedicated to taking care of her family, but regrettably not as
diligent about taking care of herself. Her goal was to work hard to provide the best care and
nutrition so her children could grow up healthy. She did her best to fulfill this goal by taking my

Murder And Corruption In The Utterly Murder
As an individual who believes an eye for an eye, In the case of murder or corruption, I don t
stand for revenge in a serious matter. Yes, it s alright to stand up for yourself when people have
done you wrong, but it s not alright to payback this person with a taste of their own medicine. A
wise woman once told me, Cam, if you ever feel yourself doing wrong onto others out of hatred
or anger, you imagine doing that same thing to me. My mother said this to me, and from that day I

Complications Of Functional Perception Patterns In The...
Introduction
The ability to generate category related representations for a limitless collection of visual contents
is a vital function of human brain (Chao et al., 1999). It is demonstrated that widely distributed
neural networks are engaged in the distinction of semantic categories, such as the ventral temporal
cortex, which plays a significant role in face and object recognition (Chao et al., 1999; Haxby et
al., 2000; Haxby et al., 2001; O toole et al., 2005). Accumulating evidence has suggested that
differential neural response patterns in human brain are closely associated with specific categories
of visual stimuli (Haxby et al., 2000; Haxby et al., 2001; Kanwisher et al., 1997). However, it
remains unclear how the functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using multi voxel pattern analysis (MVPA), they found that the neural representations of face and
objects can be discriminated not only by activation patterns within the specific cortical regions that
maximally respond to one category, but can also be identified according to the patterns of
nonmaximal responses (Haxby et al., 2001), which provided us with novel insights into the neural
mechanism underlying the decoding of semantic categories.
While the MVPA method adopted in this study well characterized the features of the response
patterns associated with the semantic categories, it was computationally heavy. Also, it remained
an open question whether a simpler method univariate analysis will provide sufficient evidence
indicating the category specificity of the distributed neural representations in human brain.
Therefore, in the current study, I applied a straightforward univariate analysis on the original data
of Haxby et al. s (2001) experiment to further investigate the neural response patterns evoked by
face and object stimuli. More specifically, I examined whether the category related information was
revealed by the patterns of response across the whole brain space, and the activation in the
functional localizer fusiform face area resulted from face stimuli.

U.s. Government During The Cold War
Tensions during the Cold War sparked many changes in American legislation, altering the way
many lived their lives. One of the most obvious areas of change is in education, with the fear of
Soviet dominance causing transformations across the nation. The severe adjustment of government
education changed the way students learned, the information taught in the classroom, and the
overall view of educationin the eyes of the public in a positive way.
Government Changes:
Summary:
Changes instigated by the U.S. government during the Cold War had a profound effect on the
educational landscape, as they altered how people viewed education, who had access to education,
what they were taught, how they were taught, etc. Although many changes were done on the local
and state level, the most considerable effects are seen after changes were made on the national
scale, in legislations such as the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and in government bodies
such as the Department of Education.
G.I. Bills(1944 1984):
The original G.I. Bill was signed into law in 1944, under the name Serviceman s Readjustment Act.
After WWI, millions of veterans returned home, only to face massive unemployment and a
recession. After WWII, twice as many veterans would return to similar issues if nothing was done.
With the chance of another recession looming, legislators created the Serviceman s Readjustment
Act. The act, which became known as the G.I. Bill, provided $500(about $6,757 today) to veterans

In A Bubble Sathnam Analysis
1. In the text In a Bubble, Sathnam Sangheera tells us about his family s, and particularly his

First, describe his choices and his family s, particularly his mother s, reaction to them.
Sathnam an Indian guy that has a white girlfriend, which is not so much appreciated by his mother.
At one point his mother talks about this person called Ranjit who I suppose is Sathnam s brother
comparing them and she obviously favors Ranjit. Talking about how he has an Indian wife, two
children and how he helps the family business by staying in Wolverhampton. Sathnam on the other

And the fact that it has not come far at all, the author states that it has come as far as surgery had
come in the year 1650. We don t know much about the complex parts of food like what makes up
the difference between two kinds of carbohydrates or two kinds of fat.
The quick fix is a text discussing the dangers of dietary supplements. They bring up a few facts of
supplements and they bring up different examples of people taking these supplements and it
affected their bodies. But the main point of this text is that there are no shortcuts to change your
body and the only thing that works is a persistent diet.
The third text, How food can improve your mental health shows the possible connection between
your diet and your mental health. Emma who is 34 years old was suffering from anxiety,
depression and mental health, but after meeting up with a doctor they changed her diet from fast
foods and general poor eating habits to more fresh foods and less sugar. After this change she
noticed an improvement in her mental health.
If you would create the perfect diet based on the facts of these texts, it would probably be a diet
based on fresh foods. I ll break it up into two different parts, the things you should do and the things
you should avoid.

The Responsibilities Of Multinational Corporations ( Mncs )
One of the main objectives of any business organization includes making profits and enhancing
the economic growth (Davis, 2012). Most businesses aim at discharging their economic and
legal responsibilities. It is because for a business to continue as going concern, the business
have to obey the law and be profitable. However, being ethically and philanthropically
responsible can also affect the businesses apart from economic and legal factors. The
responsibilities of multinational corporations (MNCs), instead of small or medium size
corporations, will be the main focus of this paper. It is assumed that the MNCs currently have no
difficulties in discharging their economic and legal responsibilities. Thus, the MNCs are in a
better position to take a step further to discharge other responsibilities like ethical and
philanthropic, while those small size businesses may still struggling in meeting the economic and
legal responsibilities. As Heal (2004) suggests that MNCs are in a good position to minimize the
difference between private and social cost. He argues that MNCs can distribute wealth from well
developed countries to poor developed countries by paying reasonable wages to workers in poor
countries. Also, MNCs have more resources than small businesses. So, MNCs can reduce or
compensate for their environmental impacts without affecting their abilities to discharge their
economic responsibilities. Therefore, this paper seeks to provide a critical evaluation on whether

Susan B Anthony Analysis
In the early stages of the year 1873, social reformer, women s rights advocate, proponent of
feminism, Susan B. Anthony, shed s light on women being able to have a lawful right to vote, with
an influential speech, that leads to equality for women and men, this protest coordinates women
and voting, but also opens opportunity for women in everything that they do. Susan B. Anthony
supports her claims in a forceful manner, by explaining the amount of suffragetaking place in
women s lives, as a result of the lack of rights they have, she gives a valid example by explaining
her arrest, for the alleged crime of having voted at the last presidential election, without having a

citizen guaranteed by the National Constitution. Anthony s purpose is to exert the rights for women
that are in the Constitution, that are being overlooked by the United States Government. She
establishes a compelling tone for whom it applies to. Susan B. Anthony is a credible feminist,

Lucas was an avid admirer of Joseph Campbell s writings, and used them as a direct reference in his

Distillation Lab Report
9/19/2012 Experiment #1 Density Aim: Learn how the process of distillation occurs. Observe how
distillation separates alcohol from wine. Method: Distillation is based on the fact that the matter
can exist in three phases solid, liquid and gas. As the temperature of a pure substance is increased,
it passes through these phases, making a transition at a specific temperature from solid to liquid
(melting point mp) and then at a higher temperature from liquid to gas (boiling point bp).
Distillation involves evaporating a liquid into a gas phase, then condensing the gas back into a
liquid and collecting the liquid in a clean receiver. Substances that have a higher boiling point than

alcohol is added to a fermented wine to prevent it from turning to vinegar when exposed to air.
Beginning with squeezed grape juice which contains sugar, water, and yeast design a procedure
for making a fortified wine. 1) Add the yeast to the grape juice, speeding up the fermentation of
the juice. 2) When the grape juice has around 3 5% residual sugar, add brandy to the juice. 3)
Drain the juice, removing the dead yeast. 3. What happens to the proof rating of the brandy, as
the distillation process continues? Why? The proof (twice the % alcohol) starts at its maximum
and goes down (as the alcohol evaporates). If we start with a high concentration of alcohol, we
will get the azeotrope (95% alcohol, 5% water) for a while, then the concentration will decrease.
4. Commercial brandy is brown in color, while your raw brandy is colorless. Why the
difference? Is brandy simply a water alcohol mixture? After two distillations, the clear, colorless
alcohol is given itsdistinctive nutty brown color and flavor by aging wood, often oak barrel. The
longer abrandy ages, the more refined its flavor is judged to be. Brandy is a spirit made by

Why Is Skidmore Guilty
In real true court cases there is always evidence that can be shown and provided to the jury in order
to persuade peoples opinions in finding someone guilty or not guilty. In this case, I am very
influenced in believing that Skidmore if found guilty in poisoning his brother. The author, Paul
Haven, has an outstanding perspective to influence the readers. In the excerpt, The Curseof the
Poisoned Pretzel , there are several ideas that are conveying the audience to believe that Skidmore
is guilty of poisoning his brother Manchester.
To begin, the first significant example for proving that Skidmore is guilty is that he was the
only person that didn t like Manchester. Skidmore has a burning hatred for his brother, some
people could say he is jealous due to everyone s love for him. In the excerpt, The Curse of the
Poisoned Pretzel , it states, Everyone loved Boddlebrooks. Everyone, that is, except his younger
brother, Skidmore by this statement it simply proves that he is the only person that could
possibly hate his brother enough to commit such an action to poison such a loving and caring guy.
No one else could have possibly done the crime except Skidmore, this is a prime example on why
people believe he is guilty. Everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bubble gum. Everything that Manchester loves has to do with bubble gum, even his mansion is

Skidmore despises it mainly because of how allergic he was to bubble gum. The excerpt
mentions, Skidmore saw his brother s sweet, chewable candies as a personal insult This shows that
he hated his brother and that he most likely poisoned his brother due to the fact that he couldn t be

The Jewish Community
For many members of the Jewish community, the nature of their identity has been a question that
has shaped their position in the modern world. Does the term Jew only consider a group of
religious followers? Or does the classification of Jew have much broader nationalistic
implications? The Jews of the Habsburg Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries, and more
specifically in the crown land of Galicia, began to reexamine their political identities. As German
Liberalism grew in popularity some members of the Galician Jewry began to see Jews, not only as a
religious group, but as a nationality in its own right. These ideas stemmed from the reformist
policies of Joesph II, Enlightenment ideals, and a brief revolutionary period. It was... Show more

Upon its annexation into the Habsburg Empire, Galicia had a Jewish population of 215,477. Jewish
Historian William O. McCagg Jr. asserts that in 1785, Jews made up nearly nine percent of the
Galician population, and nearly seven teen percent of the Capitol region of LwГіw. Galicia s
Jewish population surged after years of Jewish expulsion across the Empire. Many exiled Jews
migrated to Galicia from Germany and Vienna. These past expulsions left large portions of the
Galician population with a sense of loss. They had no true home, and were not fully welcomed in
Galicia. They did not speak the same language as their Polish counterparts, and lived in small
isolated communities. This disenfranchisement would later lead to their larger identity crisis and to
the surge of Jewish Nationalism. Another critical factor that would push the Galician Jews down
the road to Nationalism was the Habsburg State s legislative response to the Jewish presence in the
crown land. This facet of the Jewish question is more convoluted, and will take a more in depth
examination in order to fully understand both the motives of the Habsburg State and its subsequent
effect on the Jewish people. The Monarchy of the Habsburg Empire implemented a series of
reformative policies that would push the Galician Jews to assimilate with the secular population.
This was done in an attempt to strengthen the Empire s economy, by better harnessing the Jewish

An Analysis Of Martin Luther King s I Have A Dream
Every human in this world is promised to something from love to a better country.
Promises are to be true to happen, but sometimes those promises are broken and never to happen.
An example of a promise that did come true was to make racial justice. This promised was made by
Martin Luther King Jr. s in his speech, I Have a Dream. In his speech, he promised to make
racial justice for the reason that there was no freedom of racism. An example of a promised that
did not come true was the promised made by a leader of a socialist group, Jim Jones. People joined

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Negotiation
Negotiation could be seen in any aspects, any activities of our real life. Negotiations happen
when there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of
negotiation is simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to
do that, it is required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our
counterparty, then come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. Amongst these requirements, self
assessment is the first and the most important step to take. Hence, in this entry, my objective is
exploring my past experiences in negotiation and see what are my strengths and weakness in doing
so. As mentioned before, we negotiate quite often, much more often than we may think. We can
negotiate at home, in our office, with our friends, families, colleagues or business partners. The
participants, the interests, the motivations of each party vary from case to case. Sometimes we

Around 25 30% of the total breast cancer patients are diagnosed with HER2 gene amplification
(Vogel, Charles L., et al, 2002). Patients with HER2 gene overexpression also produces a higher
level of protein therefore, the patients with this condition are susceptible to decreased disease free
and shorter overall survival rate(Vogel, Charles L., et al, 2002). The non targeted cytotoxic
chemotherapy has been used as a standard treatment of this condition. However, there are several
side effects for these non targeted therapies; such as vomiting, nausea, headache, fatigue, diarrhea,
dizziness, anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukemia, anxiety, depression, anorexia and so on(O
Shaughnessy, Joyce, et al, 2011). Therefore, a lot of patients are unable to use cytotoxic
chemotherapy as a standard treatment. It is necessary to have a safe treatment that can serve the
unmet purpose of these patients.
Trastuzumab is a monoclonal antibody that recognizes the p185 site of HER2 (Vogel, Charles L., et

human body that may occur if a murine antibody was used. At the same time, this humanized

How Does Shakespeare Present Death In Sonnet 73
While talking to Seaton, Macbeth states, My way of life/ Is fall n into the sere, the yellow leaf

fear when it comes to death. In fact, when his ineluctable end comes during his epic grapple for
power with Macduff, he keeps battling, even though he knows he will meet his demise. This is a
contrast between the speaker in Sonnet 73 ; this man is perturbed by death, yet he knows the
certainty of it, like Macbeth. By portraying the fears and anxieties of the speaker as he faces his

what has been taken. He then lessens the harshness of this deterioration... Show more content on

st the glowing of such fire/ That on the ashes of his youth doth lie (9 10). The fire is a metaphor
for his life, as throughout history flames have been a symbol of life, sustaining people since the
dawn of man. The ashes of his youth are past years, we cremate the dead and turn them into
ashes, and his youth is now the same, gone and past. The fire is [c]onsumed with that which it
was nourish d by (12). The fire will be engulfed in the ashes, like the speaker, who is entangled in
the final thoughts of his youth before death. The speaker has also transitioned from yellow leaves,
which come in autumn, to the sunset that fades in the west, to the glowing of such fire. This
reveals the expeditious shortening of time, and the speaker s realization that death will come more
quickly than he thought. He uses a sequence, beginning in autumn, which takes months to
conclude, a sunset, which happens at the end of a day, to a fire, which takes mere hours to die.
The succession of months, days, and hours transmits the idea of the rapid diminishment of time,
and how life passes by in the blink of an eye. This shows that before our demise, it is facile to get
caught up in the memories and rues of our youth, but

Leafy Lilly Irrigation System
The Leafy Lilly Irrigation System is a Rube Goldberg machine that waters a plant using a system
of twelve simple machines. This machine is started with five books, used as third class levers,
which are good tools to use when you want to transfer force without the outcome varying from
the original goal that was in mind when building the machine. When the last book is knocked
over, it falls off of a ledge and hits an inclined plane that allows the book to easily travel a greater
distance by letting it use some of its gravitational potential energy. As the book slides to the end of
the inclined plane, it comes into contact with a wheel and axle that has a plow like attachment on
the front of it and the wheel and axle rolls easily down another... Show more content on

Newton s second law of motion is that the rate of change regarding the momentum of an object is
directly linked to the force acting upon it. Newton s third law of motion is that when something
applies a force to a another piece of matter, there will be an equal and opposite reaction. The LLIS
is mainly constructed around Newton s first law, as all of the simple machines are still until the
machine that is put into motion before it puts it into motion. Newton s second law is used in LLIS
when the car is rolling down the inclined plane, and when the pulley slides down the zipline. Both
the zipline and the car are put into motion by the simple machine before it. But after it is put into
motion, the force of gravity pulls it closer to the ground and increases the speed that machine was
originally traveling at. Newton s third law takes place in the LLIS in every single simple machine.
The machines that are in the LLIS are all applying a force to the surface that they are placed on.
Because they apply that force, they rest on the surface underneath

The Importance Of A Goodnight Book Kansas
I am writing on behalf of the 8th Grade Class at Monticello Trails Middle School to prove that
Kansas needs a Goodnight book. We want a nice book that can show kids that Kansas isn t
boring. This is to prove Kansas is just as good as any state. We deserve this because every other
state has a Goodnight book but Kansas.
There are books for every other state but not ours, so I believe that it s only fair if we get a book
too. Kansas has activities that anyone can do like, celebrate with us that our team the Royals
had won the World Series. Publishing this book would be good for the children when they learn
about the history of our state. Kids would be able to learn about their own state and understand
the basis of it. Kids in Kansas will be able to get a heads up on some known items. This will be
able to make you a good amount of money while teaching the basis of Kansas to kids all over the
United States. I know you don t take submissions but, Kansas can offer much more than you think.
We have VerrГјckt the tallest water slide and we also have the actual bumpy hills of Flint Hills.
Also nothing can beat our beautiful orange, red, and purple sunset. ... Show more content on

Teenage Girl Research Paper
Co captain on the high school cheerleading team. Isn t that every teenage girl s dream? Even
though I was a role model to the underclassmen, had an ideal body figure, was dating one of the
football players, and was enrolled in 2 AP classes; it was not what it s all cracked up to be.
Cheerleading got very stressful. A lot of drama and stress was added to the team as the years
went on and as cheerleaders joined and left the team. Throughout all of that, I was awarded
Varsity Most Dedicated . I was not only extremely dedicated to my team but also to my
academics at school as well as the Nursing Assistant class that I was enrolled in at Waukesha

Payment for Living Organ Donation Should Be Legalized
The first argument of those who oppose payment for living organ donation is that once money is
inserted into the issue of organ donation, it possibly creates uncontrollable and unregulated
markets in which the poor, who ultimately need money, would be obviously exploited (Delmonico
2004), and in which the human body would become merchandise (Shapiro 20). Opponents point
out that the poor are more likely to take any jobs that have a higher risk of death and go against
their beliefs in a way they can to get money. Thus, it might be true that they would also be more
likely to donate their organs in exchange for payment. Besides, rich individuals are able to abuse
that weakness to exploit poor individuals to obtain their organs. However, these claims are highly
questionable. When the government bans on the transfer of organs for valuable consideration, the
international black markets in organs have been insidiously established and have rapidly
developed (Friedman 746). In fact, the practice of those markets defiantly exploits the poor,
because most of the organs are usually taken from the poor in indigent Third World countries
(Shapiro 20). As an example, kidneys which have come from the poor in some parts of India have
been often sold to the wealth in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Gulf States, especially, the United
Kingdom and the United States( Illegal Organ Trafficking Poses A Global Problem ). Generally, it
is estimated that each year, there are 200 to 300 organs transferred

August Wilson s Century Cycle Analysis
August Wilson has been called by many one of the best playwrights of all time. August Wilson s
Century Cycle was sometimes referred to as the Pittsburgh Cycle. The Century Cycle has been
acknowledged as one of August Wilson s greatest works. The Pittsburgh Cycle was his series of ten
plays that charts the African Americanexperience throughout the twentieth century. All of them
were set in Pittsburgh s Hill District except for Ma Rainey s Black Bottom, which was set in
Chicago (August Wilson). Each play was set in a different decade throughout the 20th century.
These plays showed the changing social and historical landscape of black America over 100 years
(10 Plays, 100 Years Playwright August Wilson Reveals the History of a Community (From the
Playbill)).
Wilson once said, I think the blues is the best literature that we as blacks have created since we ve
been here, and it s a lot of philosophical ideas. I call it our sacred book (Dyson). This genre of
music was created in the south of the United States by African Americans in the late 1800 s. The
blues give lyrical shape to the hurts and affections that stymie and transform black life. The blues
tap comedy to temper tragedy and to tame the absurd (Dyson). The blues music was popular among
slaves living in the deep south.
August Wilson stated around 20 years ago that he believes America doesn t need color blind
casting. I don t think his opposition to color blind casting is racist. I agree with his reasoning
behind his opinion to a certain extent. Wilson said that he opposes casting any blacks in roles
written for whites and that it detracts from the humanity of the actor. Likewise, I would be
opposed to casting whites in my plays (Shirley). However, I also agree with a statement made by
Ambush saying he appreciates the historical underpinnings of his assumptions and his arguments.
Nonetheless, Ambush believes that minority actors should be able to play roles designed for
whites as long as it is color conscious or culture conscious casting instead of colorblind. According
to this policy, directors can cast nontraditionally but should not pretend that an actor s race does not
matter (Shirley). I think casting based on race depends on the role

Karen L. Edwards The Mother Of All Femmes
Eve has been considered as the mother of femmes fatales. Karen L. Edwards, in The Mother of All
Femmes Fatales: Eve as Temptress in Genesis 3 argue that allusions to the story of the fall
regularly assume Eve to be the archetypal femme fatale: she tempts Adam to participate with her in
a divinely forbidden act in order to gain illicit knowledge, thus luring him to death, and with him the
rest of human kind (35). Another good illustration of the fatal womanis Lilith, who has been
dismissed from the Garden of Aden after claiming her equality with Adam in terms of sexuality and
desires. Moreover, Lilith is seen as a destructive women who brought death to humanity by
murdering children. This turns her into an evil woman in the masquerade

Essay On Border Injection Drug Use
In cities along the U.S. Mexico border injection drug use is a rising problem, and users are at
high risk of blood borne infections, hepatitis C virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV), and Syphilis due to increased rates of unprotected sex (Frost et al., 2006). Patterson reported
75% of female sex workers in Ciudad (Cd.) JuГЎrez, Mexico were injection drug users (IDUs)
(2006). Those who trade of sex for compensation tend to engage in injection drug use, thus
increasing risk of STIs, like syphilis (Frost et al., 2006). These STIs increase the risk of HIV
infection in those who are HIV negative and increase the risk of infecting others in those who are
HIV positive (NAM Publications, 2017). Cd. JuГЎrez and Tijuana border cities that... Show more

Log linear models were used to investigate the association between the status of the recruiter and
those they referred. Syphilis population estimates were obtained using RDS based estimators of
personal network size to correct biased sampling (Frost et al., 2006).
The prevalence of HCV was 96.6% and 95.3% in Tijuana and Cd. JuГЎrez respectively; HIV was
1.9% and 4.1% respectively in Tijuana and Cd. JuГЎrez respectively, and in Cd. JuГЎrez HBV
prevalence was 84.7%. The estimated syphilis prevalence ranged from 12.4 26.8% in Tijuana and
2.9 15.6% in Cd. JuГЎrez. The variance was due to that the pattern of recruitment model chosen
and how much network size was assumed to affect sample probability. Results showed syphilis
prevalence was increased in women and Tijuana in comparison to men and Cd. JuГЎrez. The
results show that network size and gender are both potential confounders. The qualifiers for
network size are subjective thus relate to the recruitee and syphilis level. Because female
prostitutes are more likely to be IUD users, gender also relates to IDU and syphilis level. In
conclusion, there was a low HIV prevalence, high syphilis prevalence, and the syphilis proportions
may be underestimated due to RDS (Frost et al., 2006).
One strength the study didn t elaborate on was confirming the recent drug use with inspection of
injection stigmata ( track marks ). This way someone didn t falsify data. One limitation the study

Compare And Contrast Children And Adults
Most people will say that the best days of your life are going to be during your youth, where you
didn t have to worry about anything and had no responsibilities. When I was a young child, I
remember wanting to be a grown up so bad that I got mad at my parents because they treated me
like a kid. To this day, I still do not understand why kids wantto grow up and be adults so quickly.
Now that I m slowly turning into an adult, I can tell that kids have it way easier than adults do.
Being a child is probably the best thingthat can ever happen to you. When you re a child you have
nothing to worry about. Children have responsibilities that only involve housework or school.
They have to wash dishes, clean their rooms, make the bed, and take out the trash. These are
called chores, and most normal kids hate doing chores. These responsibilities are mainly at
home jobs, and they have more that involve schoolwork. A child is responsible for finishing
class and homework when the teacher asks them to and are also held responsible to be the best
kids they can be at school. A child does not have as many responsibilities as an adult and that s
good because they are still kids and don t need to be stressed out a whole lot. Kids have it easier
because when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Both adults and kids continue to grow even though they are different ages. Children and adults both
have emotions and also get sick from time to time. Adults and children go through hard times and it
is what makes them who they are. There are many similarities between adults and children but these

Why Polygamy Should Be Legal
Could you imagine living in a world where it is acceptable for a man to marry more than one
woman and be open about it? A large number cannot and the practice of polygamy is seen as a
taboo. The families usually live private lives, and they do not interact with the rest of America due
to anti bigamy society we live in. Polygamyis the practice of being married to more than one
person at the same time. This is not to be confused with an open relationship or an open marriage.
This topic was viewed as controversial for years. As a practice that was not accepted in the
public eye, it recently gained more attention with mainstream media and culture. Shows on
television such as Sister Wives may pose questions if polygamy should be legally practiced, and
it should not be. The stronger actions that law enforcement continues to take against polygamist
communities are justified. Women who partake in the practice often times are not old enough or
aware enough to be offered a real choice in the polygamist marriage. Furthermore, the young
women engaging in the practice makes it illegal. They should be taken out of these environments
as well as have the choice to live their lives as they please. Polygamy can equally be seen as a
way of oppressing women. The wives are forced to share their husband with multiple women, while
addressing the husband as their leader . Polygamous unions nonetheless are still thriving in present
day America as of 2015. These communities are allowed to live

Disney Theme Parks
1.As stated in the book International Business, there are three major operating objectives that
encourage businesses to engage in international business. These three objectives include expanding
sales, acquiring recourses, and to minimize risk. I feel that Disney was motivated by all three of
these aspects, and possibly others when deciding whether or not he should move more of his
business abroad. After seeing how successful the two theme parks in the United States were doing,
the next option would be to expand. By expanding the parks into five international parks, Disney s
theme parks outside the United States would reportedly exceed that inside the country. I think that
Disney also wanted to diversify and to let others experience... Show more content on

If these changes were not made, the problems would cause Disney to go bankrupt. After finding
an investor, Disney immediately took action. The company lowered their prices, agreed to make
French the first language, terminated the no alcohol policy, and took on more promotional
projects to advertise the park more efficiently. Another great contribution to making Disney Paris
a success was the French government. The government decided to expand the Paris railway and
connect it to the park. This would allow the park to be joined to the rest of Europe. 4.In my
opinion, yes, I think that Disney should set up a park in Shanghai. The other parks that have
been opened and running for a few years have shown great success. I think this is a perfect city
to create and begin another Disney theme park. Shanghai is a successful and fast growing city
full of trading and profit. Because there is so much traveling and tourists going through China,
Shanghai s Disney theme park would attract a vast majority of these people to their park. China
is also extremely over populated and will have plenty of local families visiting the park to give
their children the Disney experience. The builders of this theme park need to be aware of the mass
amount of people who will be visiting the theme park, and take in to

U.s. China Bilateral Trade And Policy Implications
A RATIONALE FOR U.S. CHINA BILATERAL TRADE AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS
ABSTRACT China incurs a bilateral trade surplus with the world s three main trade centers the
United States, the European Union, and Japan whereas the U.S. beholds its most hefty trade deficit
with China. To come into trade agreement with China is considered to be part of USA s overall
strategy of benefiting from China s economic interchanges that would help the U.S. economy to
achieve national security (China s Trade with the United States and the World, updated January 4,
2007). This essay extends a quantitative framework of trade patterns between U.S. China mainly
after China s accession into WTO in 2001 Through statistical data, we analyze the various sectors...

Currently, China is the second largest trading partner, third largest export market and the
biggest source of imports for the United States. The U.S. government s debt purchased by China
provides US the benefits of low interest rates (Morrison, 2015). While for few this economic
relationship is considered to have a positive effect as it helps to fund the U.S. economy, for
others it is an attributable concern that China may gain more power over the U.S (Loc.gov,
2016). Some major trade policies have negatively impacted the trade patterns of the two countries
in a way that in spite of their growing ties, the bilateral trade relationship is often laden with
complexities. According to U.S., China s unfinished transition to a free market economy is the
root cause for many trade tensions. While China has liberalized its trade governance over the last
thirty years, it continues to maintain a couple of state supervised policies that apparently distort
investment flows (Morrison, 2015). The primary purpose of this paper is to reflect the trade
patterns of the two countries USA and China and illustrate various trade policies practiced by
them. It is important to study the impact of policies so that the main areas of issues in the
economy can be understood and the imbalances in trade can be thoroughly checked by the
government by following protectionist measures. The various parts of this essay are organized as
follows: In section 2, we discuss the historical

Nipah Virus
NiV transmission includes many types of forms to transfer from agent to hosts. Infected bats shed
the virus via their excretions and secretions such as their urine, excreta, semen, and saliva, despite
them being symptomless carriers. While Nipah virus is extremely contagious among hosts such as
pigs, goats, and humans, it is primarily best spread through coughing. The leading source of
transmission in humans, however, is through direct contact with infected pigs. This explains why pig
farmers were much likely to be infected when exposed to ill livestock in 1999. In fact, ninety
percent of the infected people in the 1998 1999 outbreaks were pig farmers or had contact with
pigs (World Health, p.5). How can we prove the emergence of bat related infections? While several

safety guidelines for reporting a widespread disease would better control an outbreak or infection of
NiV. In fact, it is guaranteed that quarantine is crucial when containing an outbreak, safely and

it being readily inactivated by soaps, detergents and many disinfectants...sodium hypochlorite [for

  • 2. The Impact Of Media On The Performance Of Gender Evaluate the role of media in the performance of gender. Media is the most powerful tool of communication in today s society, and it represents a constructive role, as without media it wouldn t be possible to collect any knowledge and information. Media has an essential role of representing differences as well constructing them; it presents differences regards to race, culture, and many other structural variables in a certain way, yet within all the differences genderbinary is conspicuous from the birth. Media has a responsible role in the society, due to the fact that its construction of masculinity and femininity images has a significant influence on how the individual s life is lead. The way media represents gender has changed throughout the history, and still changes over time, and these changes implicates our everyday lives albeit we are conscious of it or not. It is initially crucial to engage with the theories about the complexities of gender, and gain an in depth insight of how one can perform gender in order to understand the impact of media on shaping our lives through constructing our understanding of gender. Secondly, after comprehending media s massive influence on our perception, analysing contemporary media examples will be helpful to embody this impact on our identities, and everyday lives. From the very beginning of our lives, gender is the most outstanding difference that distinguishes one from another, yet gender is much more complex than we would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gram Staining Paper Background: Bacteria is a single celled prokaryote microorganisms, rapid mutations causes bacteria can be found just about anywhere.Gram staining helps to classify two groups of bacteria, Gram positive and Gram negative. Gram positive bacteria s cell wall has a stronger attraction for crystal violet, because of more peptidoglycan. Gram negative is a group of bacteria that doesn t retain the crystal violet stain used in the Gram staining method, making positive identification possible. These are the many characteristics used to describe the morphology of a bacterial colony; size, shape, color, texture, height, and edge. Bacteria can be prokaryotic organisms, they lack a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Most are unicellular, but some species live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s add MTBE to the fuel that will reduce pollution... If people would just stop driving so much, pollution wouldn t be so bad... People have long recognized the problems with the gasoline we used now. We have tried everything from putting regulations on emissions, to putting additives in the gasoline (only to discover later that MTBE got into the groundwater), to campaigns to get people off the road. However, more and more cars are on the roads as the population increases, and people are not going to stop driving. Additives are as likely to cause problems as they are to prevent them. To help protect the environment, our health, and our economic independence, the government should use all the revenues from the taxes on dirty fossil fuels to subsidize research and the production of alcohol burning cars. Problems with Cleaner Fuel Of course there are reasons why we have not converted to alcohol burning vehicles before. Ethanol costs more per gallon than gasoline. However, new technologies have the potential to produce ethanol at significantly smaller costs. Methanol, a high performance liquid fuel made from wood or coal, can be produced at prices comparable to the prices of gasoline and natural gas. In addition, oil does not occur naturally in unlimited supply, and just in the past few years, gas prices have been increasing dramatically. Those prices will not fall back down. However, the introduction of an inexpensive alcohol based fuel would provide an alternative means of power and give consumers more choices. Some people argue that decreasing the oil we use would harm the economies of countries like Venezuela that depend on America buying their oil. However, as third world countries grow and develop, they will also need fuel sources and the United States has no right to monopolize large portions of the available resources. Besides, it is not the responsibility of the United States to provide markets for all companies in the world. Markets come and go, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is known as Einstein s ring and depending on the mass of the object will determine the size of the ring, a larger mass results in a larger ring. (Richmond, 2015) Our universe is 85% dark matter, dark matter may be invisible but it still has mass and therefore when light travels towards it, it will bend around them matter causing gravitational lensing. All objects can bend light but usually the change is not measurable on smaller objects such as humans,

When the light bends it can alters the shape of the image, with a galaxyfor example it can bend or warp the shape which is normally elliptical or spiral looking. (Grocutt, 2015) An accretion disk is formed when rocks, gasses and other satellites travel close to a black hole; they are sucked into the gravitational field (StrongGravity, 2013). A black hole is a place in space where the gravitational field is so great that not even light can escape it. This is because matter has been compressed into such a confined space; this can occur when a star is dying for example (Smith, 2008). Once trapped in the gravitational field the rocks and ... Osteoarthritis is the most common rheumatic disease, primarily affecting the articular cartilage and the subchondral bone of a synovial joint, eventually resulting in joint failure. (Fransen, 2015) Chances are that someone close to you has osteoarthritis as it is a very prevalent chronic disease. Exercise is something that can easily be taught to patients and nurses have the prime opportunity to educate patients that are at risk or have osteoarthritis before they need a joint replacement surgery. Mobility is a huge part of each individual s life and joints play a crucial role in one s mobility. When a joint s function decreases a person s mobility, many other things are at risk to decrease as well such as skin integrity and the cardiovascular system. As a nurse, it is important to treat patients holistically and when one part is not functioning, such as the joint, it is our job to bring function back to improve one s health overall. Methods Many of the studies reviewed followed similar methods to collecting data related to exercise and knee osteoarthritis. A Brooklyn based artist, she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality, Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person, there is little to no record of her past or current life online. In an interview with the San Francisco Bay Guardian, she explains that because she had a lot going on in [her] home that was kind of crazy, dance became the fluid structure that afforded her the space to finally express who she really was. The Ethics of File Sharing Software Essay The Ethics of File Sharing Software Introduction The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ethical problem that file sharing software creates when used to transfer copy written material. It is contested that the very existence of this software promotes piracy. The paper will focus on the creators of the file sharing software, knowing that the user employs their product illegally. The software creators (Kazaa, Grokster, Morpheus, etc) are claiming that they cannot control what the end user does with its product. In fact, this point has been upheld by a recent court ruling. By spreading the load for file downloading across millions of machines, Napster accomplished what would have been impossible any other way. The central database for song titles was Napster s Achilles heel. When the court ordered Napster to stop the music, the absence of a central database killed the entire Napster network. With Napster gone, what you had at that point was something like 100 million people around the world hungry to share more and more files. It was only a matter of time before another system came along to fill the gap.[ii] Napster made downloading music over the Internet common practice. Since the Federal Government closed Napster, several new alternatives for file sharing have been creates. Kazaa, Morpheus, Gnutella all rely on peer to peer networking rather than a central server. Copyrighted materials continue to be distributed through peer to peer file sharing, but these systems are more difficult to shut down due to their decentralized control. Unlike Napster, which relied on central file servers, most new systems use a decentralized approach that relies on the local networks and computer resources of individual users. The study design for the longitudinal study of AA was to assess Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans carriage in relation to the initiation of LAP in healthy children from Newark. For the analysis, some samples were retrieved from the initial visit and prior visit, which included saliva and plaque. After collection of samples, the sites were evaluated for any bone loss and evaluation of any healthy remain in some patients. The diseased patients were matched with AA positive and healthy patients were matched with AA negative. The time frame for this study was to follow the patients every 6 months and have a new study every 3 months to obtain more clinical samples. A healthy patient would have 5 mm pockets or less while a diseased patient would have radiographic evidence of bone loss plus a shadow showing an interproximal bone loss. The goal of this study was to find biomarkers (microbial and host) that occurs in early stages of the disease and was divided into three stages: selection visit, screening visit, and follow up visits. Selection visit was to evaluate 2500 children (11 14 years of age) and collect the BECs and saliva for AA carriage assessment (in classroom) and assessment of host factors (for the lab). During the screening visit, 250 AA positive and 250 AA negative adolescents were determined to see if they were periodontally healthy; this included a collection of BECs (bacteria) and saliva (host). For the follow up visits during the longitudinal phase, there was 170 AA positive and 210 AA negative (qualified as healthy). One mostly used by advertisement today would be Glittering Generalities, using positive words to bring attraction to their product while concealing the actual meanings. They will use inspiring words that are very vague that the consumer would not really understand what the product would really do to benefit them but would be inspired to buy it anyways. Another technique mostly used would be Testimonial, were producers would pay celebrities to advertise their product for them since they have more fame than normal actors. Advertisement used today is targeted to make the consumer believe that what they are paying for is the real deal when it is only beneficial for the producers. Advertisements are used to promote a product by the positive effects enthusiastically but when describing the side effects they are done fast and in small letters. When one watches a commercial in the television, or hears it on the radio, one mostly hears the what the producers wants them to hear. They will explain their product, giving the pros of what it was made to do and how its a better option than other products in the market. • 22. Complications Of Functional Perception Patterns In The... Introduction The ability to generate category related representations for a limitless collection of visual contents is a vital function of human brain (Chao et al., 1999). It is demonstrated that widely distributed neural networks are engaged in the distinction of semantic categories, such as the ventral temporal cortex, which plays a significant role in face and object recognition (Chao et al., 1999; Haxby et al., 2000; Haxby et al., 2001; O toole et al., 2005). Accumulating evidence has suggested that differential neural response patterns in human brain are closely associated with specific categories of visual stimuli (Haxby et al., 2000; Haxby et al., 2001; Kanwisher et al., 1997). However, it remains unclear how the functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using multi voxel pattern analysis (MVPA), they found that the neural representations of face and objects can be discriminated not only by activation patterns within the specific cortical regions that maximally respond to one category, but can also be identified according to the patterns of nonmaximal responses (Haxby et al., 2001), which provided us with novel insights into the neural mechanism underlying the decoding of semantic categories. While the MVPA method adopted in this study well characterized the features of the response patterns associated with the semantic categories, it was computationally heavy. Also, it remained an open question whether a simpler method univariate analysis will provide sufficient evidence indicating the category specificity of the distributed neural representations in human brain. Therefore, in the current study, I applied a straightforward univariate analysis on the original data of Haxby et al. s (2001) experiment to further investigate the neural response patterns evoked by face and object stimuli. More specifically, I examined whether the category related information was revealed by the patterns of response across the whole brain space, and the activation in the functional localizer fusiform face area resulted from face stimuli. One of the most obvious areas of change is in education, with the fear of Soviet dominance causing transformations across the nation. The severe adjustment of government education changed the way students learned, the information taught in the classroom, and the overall view of educationin the eyes of the public in a positive way. Government Changes: Summary: Changes instigated by the U.S. government during the Cold War had a profound effect on the educational landscape, as they altered how people viewed education, who had access to education, what they were taught, how they were taught, etc. Although many changes were done on the local and state level, the most considerable effects are seen after changes were made on the national scale, in legislations such as the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and in government bodies such as the Department of Education. G.I. Bills(1944 1984): The original G.I. Bill was signed into law in 1944, under the name Serviceman s Readjustment Act. After WWI, millions of veterans returned home, only to face massive unemployment and a recession. After WWII, twice as many veterans would return to similar issues if nothing was done. As Heal (2004) suggests that MNCs are in a good position to minimize the difference between private and social cost. He argues that MNCs can distribute wealth from well developed countries to poor developed countries by paying reasonable wages to workers in poor countries. Also, MNCs have more resources than small businesses. So, MNCs can reduce or compensate for their environmental impacts without affecting their abilities to discharge their economic responsibilities. Why Is Skidmore Guilty In real true court cases there is always evidence that can be shown and provided to the jury in order to persuade peoples opinions in finding someone guilty or not guilty. In this case, I am very influenced in believing that Skidmore if found guilty in poisoning his brother. The author, Paul Haven, has an outstanding perspective to influence the readers. In the excerpt, The Curseof the Poisoned Pretzel , there are several ideas that are conveying the audience to believe that Skidmore is guilty of poisoning his brother Manchester. To begin, the first significant example for proving that Skidmore is guilty is that he was the only person that didn t like Manchester. Skidmore has a burning hatred for his brother, some people could say he is jealous due to everyone s love for him. In the excerpt, The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel , it states, Everyone loved Boddlebrooks. Everyone, that is, except his younger brother, Skidmore by this statement it simply proves that he is the only person that could possibly hate his brother enough to commit such an action to poison such a loving and caring guy. No one else could have possibly done the crime except Skidmore, this is a prime example on why people believe he is guilty. Everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 33. The Jewish Community For many members of the Jewish community, the nature of their identity has been a question that has shaped their position in the modern world. Does the term Jew only consider a group of religious followers? Or does the classification of Jew have much broader nationalistic implications? The Jews of the Habsburg Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries, and more specifically in the crown land of Galicia, began to reexamine their political identities. As German Liberalism grew in popularity some members of the Galician Jewry began to see Jews, not only as a religious group, but as a nationality in its own right. These ideas stemmed from the reformist policies of Joesph II, Enlightenment ideals, and a brief revolutionary period. It was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Upon its annexation into the Habsburg Empire, Galicia had a Jewish population of 215,477. Jewish Historian William O. McCagg Jr. asserts that in 1785, Jews made up nearly nine percent of the Galician population, and nearly seven teen percent of the Capitol region of LwГіw. Galicia s Jewish population surged after years of Jewish expulsion across the Empire. Many exiled Jews migrated to Galicia from Germany and Vienna. These past expulsions left large portions of the Galician population with a sense of loss. They had no true home, and were not fully welcomed in Galicia. They did not speak the same language as their Polish counterparts, and lived in small isolated communities. This disenfranchisement would later lead to their larger identity crisis and to the surge of Jewish Nationalism. Another critical factor that would push the Galician Jews down the road to Nationalism was the Habsburg State s legislative response to the Jewish presence in the crown land. This facet of the Jewish question is more convoluted, and will take a more in depth examination in order to fully understand both the motives of the Habsburg State and its subsequent effect on the Jewish people. The Monarchy of the Habsburg Empire implemented a series of reformative policies that would push the Galician Jews to assimilate with the secular population. Australian Drinking Culture Essay Introduction Australia has a well established and deeply ingrained drinking culture and while most people are satisfied with a few beers on the odd weekend or a glass of wine with dinner, others have become addicted and have developed alcohol dependence. With alcohol dependency now the most common substance use disorder in Australia the effects of this disorder are far reaching and catastrophic not only for the individual suffering the addiction and their family and friends, but for our government as well who is shelling out billions of dollars annually to address the fallout of this disorder. This significant and promising finding could see the medical profession moving away from current abstinence based treatment programs, which have success rates of less than 10 percent, towards such a program that allows alcoholics to enjoy a drink or two but be able to stop at that. However, while successful in curbing alcohol consumption in mice trials, the drug has yet to be trialed on humans. Negotiations happen when there is a wide gap between two or more parties interests and targets. Hence, the goal of negotiation is simply to close that gap by finding out a middle group for both parties. In order to do that, it is required to develop a great deal of tactics to correctly evaluate ourselves and our counterparty, then come up with a suitable negotiation strategy. In fact, when his ineluctable end comes during his epic grapple for power with Macduff, he keeps battling, even though he knows he will meet his demise. This is a contrast between the speaker in Sonnet 73 ; this man is perturbed by death, yet he knows the certainty of it, like Macbeth. The ashes of his youth are past years, we cremate the dead and turn them into ashes, and his youth is now the same, gone and past. The fire is [c]onsumed with that which it was nourish d by (12). The fire will be engulfed in the ashes, like the speaker, who is entangled in the final thoughts of his youth before death. The speaker has also transitioned from yellow leaves, which come in autumn, to the sunset that fades in the west, to the glowing of such fire. This reveals the expeditious shortening of time, and the speaker s realization that death will come more quickly than he thought. He uses a sequence, beginning in autumn, which takes months to conclude, a sunset, which happens at the end of a day, to a fire, which takes mere hours to die. • 43. Payment for Living Organ Donation Should Be Legalized The first argument of those who oppose payment for living organ donation is that once money is inserted into the issue of organ donation, it possibly creates uncontrollable and unregulated markets in which the poor, who ultimately need money, would be obviously exploited (Delmonico 2004), and in which the human body would become merchandise (Shapiro 20). Opponents point out that the poor are more likely to take any jobs that have a higher risk of death and go against their beliefs in a way they can to get money. Thus, it might be true that they would also be more likely to donate their organs in exchange for payment. Besides, rich individuals are able to abuse that weakness to exploit poor individuals to obtain their organs. However, these claims are highly questionable. When the government bans on the transfer of organs for valuable consideration, the international black markets in organs have been insidiously established and have rapidly developed (Friedman 746). In fact, the practice of those markets defiantly exploits the poor, because most of the organs are usually taken from the poor in indigent Third World countries (Shapiro 20). • 44. August Wilson s Century Cycle Analysis August Wilson has been called by many one of the best playwrights of all time. August Wilson s Century Cycle was sometimes referred to as the Pittsburgh Cycle. The Century Cycle has been acknowledged as one of August Wilson s greatest works. The Pittsburgh Cycle was his series of ten plays that charts the African Americanexperience throughout the twentieth century. All of them were set in Pittsburgh s Hill District except for Ma Rainey s Black Bottom, which was set in Chicago (August Wilson). Each play was set in a different decade throughout the 20th century. These plays showed the changing social and historical landscape of black America over 100 years (10 Plays, 100 Years Playwright August Wilson Reveals the History of a Community (From the Playbill)). Wilson once said, I think the blues is the best literature that we as blacks have created since we ve been here, and it s a lot of philosophical ideas. I call it our sacred book (Dyson). This genre of music was created in the south of the United States by African Americans in the late 1800 s. The blues give lyrical shape to the hurts and affections that stymie and transform black life. The blues tap comedy to temper tragedy and to tame the absurd (Dyson). The blues music was popular among slaves living in the deep south. August Wilson stated around 20 years ago that he believes America doesn t need color blind casting. I don t think his opposition to color blind casting is racist. I agree with his reasoning behind his opinion to a certain extent. Wilson said that he opposes casting any blacks in roles written for whites and that it detracts from the humanity of the actor. Likewise, I would be opposed to casting whites in my plays (Shirley). However, I also agree with a statement made by Ambush saying he appreciates the historical underpinnings of his assumptions and his arguments. Nonetheless, Ambush believes that minority actors should be able to play roles designed for whites as long as it is color conscious or culture conscious casting instead of colorblind. According to this policy, directors can cast nontraditionally but should not pretend that an actor s race does not matter (Shirley). I think casting based on race depends on the role ... Polygamyis the practice of being married to more than one person at the same time. This is not to be confused with an open relationship or an open marriage. This topic was viewed as controversial for years. As a practice that was not accepted in the public eye, it recently gained more attention with mainstream media and culture. Shows on television such as Sister Wives may pose questions if polygamy should be legally practiced, and it should not be. The stronger actions that law enforcement continues to take against polygamist communities are justified. Women who partake in the practice often times are not old enough or aware enough to be offered a real choice in the polygamist marriage. Furthermore, the young women engaging in the practice makes it illegal. They should be taken out of these environments as well as have the choice to live their lives as they please. After finding an investor, Disney immediately took action. The company lowered their prices, agreed to make French the first language, terminated the no alcohol policy, and took on more promotional projects to advertise the park more efficiently. Another great contribution to making Disney Paris a success was the French government. The government decided to expand the Paris railway and connect it to the park. This would allow the park to be joined to the rest of Europe. 4.In my opinion, yes, I think that Disney should set up a park in Shanghai. The other parks that have been opened and running for a few years have shown great success. I think this is a perfect city to create and begin another Disney theme park. Because there is so much traveling and tourists going through China, Shanghai s Disney theme park would attract a vast majority of these people to their park. • 51. U.s. China Bilateral Trade And Policy Implications A RATIONALE FOR U.S. CHINA BILATERAL TRADE AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS ABSTRACT China incurs a bilateral trade surplus with the world s three main trade centers the United States, the European Union, and Japan whereas the U.S. beholds its most hefty trade deficit with China. To come into trade agreement with China is considered to be part of USA s overall strategy of benefiting from China s economic interchanges that would help the U.S. economy to achieve national security (China s Trade with the United States and the World, updated January 4, 2007). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, China is the second largest trading partner, third largest export market and the biggest source of imports for the United States. The U.S. government s debt purchased by China provides US the benefits of low interest rates (Morrison, 2015). While for few this economic relationship is considered to have a positive effect as it helps to fund the U.S. economy, for others it is an attributable concern that China may gain more power over the U.S (Loc.gov, 2016). Some major trade policies have negatively impacted the trade patterns of the two countries in a way that in spite of their growing ties, the bilateral trade relationship is often laden with complexities. According to U.S., China s unfinished transition to a free market economy is the root cause for many trade tensions. While China has liberalized its trade governance over the last thirty years, it continues to maintain a couple of state supervised policies that apparently distort investment flows (Morrison, 2015). The primary purpose of this paper is to reflect the trade patterns of the two countries USA and China and illustrate various trade policies practiced by them. It is important to study the impact of policies so that the main areas of issues in the economy can be understood and the imbalances in trade can be thoroughly checked by the government by following protectionist measures. The various parts of this essay are organized as follows: In section 2, we discuss the historical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Infected bats shed the virus via their excretions and secretions such as their urine, excreta, semen, and saliva, despite them being symptomless carriers. While Nipah virus is extremely contagious among hosts such as pigs, goats, and humans, it is primarily best spread through coughing. The leading source of transmission in humans, however, is through direct contact with infected pigs. This explains why pig farmers were much likely to be infected when exposed to ill livestock in 1999. In fact, ninety percent of the infected people in the 1998 1999 outbreaks were pig farmers or had contact with pigs (World Health, p.5). How can we prove the emergence of bat related infections? Stephen Dedalus Childhood The entire book, Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, is written about a young man named Stephen Dedalus and his transition into an artist throughout his childhood and adolescence years. Stephen s childhood was not typical, as during his younger years he experienced more terror and tribulation, then innocence and wonder.
