gods bits of wood Essay
Sembene Ousmane s novel, Gods Bits of Wood, gives a highly detailed story of the railway strike
of 1947 48 in French West Africa. It contains conflicts of political, emotional and moral nature.
Ultimately, Sembene s novel is one of empowerment. It brings to light the tension between colonial
officials and the African community among the railwaymen as well as the struggle of the African
community to free itself from being subjected to colonial power. Frederick Cooper s article, Our
Strike: Equality, Anticolonial politics and the 1947 48 Railway Strike in FrenchWest Africa, helps
reveal the strike s true meaning and agenda by analyzing the conflicts present in Sembene s novel.
In fact, it paints a very different picture of the railway... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when Bakayoko meets with French delegates in regards the demands of the strike
he says, That is all I had to say, and I have said it in French so that he would understand me,
although I think this meeting should have been conducted in Ouolof, since that is our language
(Sembene 177). Not only does this statement show Bakayoko s leadership in affairs of the strike,
but it reveals sentiments of the African community that their language needs to be recognized. At
that same meeting, when having to choose the number of delegates to represent the railway men
Bakayoko states, There is no necessity for that. They didn t set any limit on the number of
representatives they would have, we ll all go over together (Sembene 178). Again, Bakayoko is
expressing the need for the railway men to be recognized and that since the French leaders have no
limit on the number of delegates, it is only fair that the railway men not be limited either.
Fa Keita is also looked upon as a man of great importance. His arrest by French militiamen
reinforces this idea. From the beginning of the novel the people constantly look to Fa Keita for
direction and guidance, calling him the old one . At first when he is arrested the other prisoners
treat him with must disrespect, but they realize who he is, and change their attitude greatly. They
look upon him for reassurance that everything with the strike is going well, and that their efforts

Emma Lazarus s The New Colossus
Before Emma Lazarus created the poem: The New Colossus the American people were unmoved
and uninterested in any aspect of the statue donated by France. After her poem was published
American began to see the statue as a Mother of Exiles and a symbol of freedom. The statue of
liberty was donated by the French after the destructive reign of Napoleon II. It was in the donors
mindset to improve their reputation with their republican roots. As well as emphasize the two
nations similarities in their commitment to the principles of liberty. The two countries were tied by
their similar pasts with breaking away from a oppressive dictatorship and wanting a fresh start. As

My Experience At University Of Melbourne
I have been a student at University of Melbourne for 4 semesters, and over the commerce course
of my study I have developed and grown more than I thought possible. Business Case Analysis
has not only given me great experience, but also helped me boost my skills and knowledge
through the semester through interactive learning and teamwork. In this course, I have learned
how to approach a problem, particularly in business sector, while also professionally
maintaining collaborative work in teams. This reflection will firstly analyse my experience in
solving cases, and as I go along, I recognized my strengths and weaknesses from my team
members and myself. After that, I will discuss my skills that have developed during the course
and its impact to my future career as business practitioner. At the end of the reflection, further
improvement of the course will be considered. I remember the first and second class, the feeling of
being hit with the harsh and abrupt reality that I need to work absolutely hard this semester. But at
that time, I was not afraid. Instead, I feel challenged and enthusiastic for what I need to overcome
in this subject. I read several cases from international casecompetition and compare the best
solutions from the winner of that competition, with an intention to be more prepared for the first
case. For the first case, our group faced a difficult challenge in identifying the strategy to unfold the

Syntax Of Syntax In Hamlet
In Act 2, Scene 2 of Hamlet, Shakespeare creates an image of Hamlet by using syntax to reveal
his state of mind. In this soliloquy, it is revealed that Hamlet not only is on the verge of insanity,
but he also has reason. Previous to this soliloquy, Hamlet finds out that his uncle, Claudius, kills
his father and then marries his mother afterwards. This betrayal of his family, mixed with the
visits by his father s ghost, guides Hamlet towards seeking revenge. The manner in which the
words are organized and the sentences are structured is called syntax. Throughout this soliloquy,
Shakespeare uses syntax to allow for the audience to see inside Hamlet s head. For example, in the
beginning, Hamlet is furious, and his words show it. His sentences are long and confused,
followed by short bursts of anger and refusal. Hamlet is jealous that a player can act out his
emotions, but that he himself is suffering to seek revenge. The series of questions throughout the
whole play help the reader to understand that Hamlet does not fully believe in his cause. By not
believing, but still acting on his duty, suggests that Hamlet is perhaps going insane. If there is no
truthin the ghost s accusations, Hamlet is planning to killhis uncle just for fun. The visit by his
father s ghost, though, has reasonable doubt to Hamlet, as he feels that it may just be the devil
trying to create his downfall. In lines 543, the reader sees that Hamlet feels he is a coward. Since
Hamlet asks, Am I a

Research Paper On Black Bears
Black Bear Black bears are one of the more common species in North America. They live in
many different habitats are not picky about what they eat. Their keen sense of smell gives them
much information about their environment and foods they eat. The American black bear is
considered a threatened species in some areas. In fact they are protected in the states of
Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. In other areas they are actively hunted and are subject to open
hunting seasons . CHARACTERISTICS Black bear anatomy includes a straight face and flat
shoulders. It has ears that are often pointed and a short tail. Fur color can vary from black to
chocolate brown with gray combinations. One of the more notable facts about this species is that...

Black bears also like salmon and other kinds of fish and will hunt for small mammals if
available where they live. They grip their prey with their sharp teeth or claws. If given the
opportunity they will attack (or threaten) other predators to scavenge their prey. In fact wolves
are weary of bears who monitor their hunting activities. BLACK BEAR ATTACKS Black bears
are shy and normally avoid people. Human attacks are rare. Still one should not get too close or
feed them. They may become protective if cubs are present and may bluff intruders with fake
charges. When hiking it is a good idea to announce your presence by making noise. If you
encounter a standing black bear, it is not threatening you. It is trying to get more information
about you and your intentions. The best defense is to back out of the area slowly. In parks such
as Yosemite National Park in California, black bears are accustomed to people because they
view them as a source of food handouts. DO BLACK BEARS HIBERNATE? Information about
black bear hibernation suggests they enter a partial state of the process. Although there is a drop
in body temperature, metabolic rate, and heart rate, they can awaken from their sleep to defend
their cubs or ward off attacks if necessary. Black bear hibernation can last up to 6 or 7 months
depending on their habitat and climate conditions. They make use of their body fat and do not eat
or pass any wastes.

Citizen Engagement Essay
Citizen engagement fosters effective leadership by bringing the community stakeholders and policy
makers together to engage in dialogue surrounding public issues (Nabatchi, pg. 1). Within this
dialogue, various opinions and collective wisdom are explored; agencies gain public knowledge
/perspective of the issues within their community and demographics. Arnstein would suggest that
citizen engagement is a powerful tool that that enables the have not citizens not currently
represented in the community to be included in the vision of the future (Arnstein, 1969, pg. 216).

Authority can be earned by building a deep knowledge of the community by collecting public
knowledge on a regular basis (Harwood Institute Standards of Excellence in Public Engagement).
Accountability can be demonstrated by sharing public knowledge and openly applying it
/considering it in the decision making process. When your understand openly share this information
of how the public voice is impacting community decision making, you gain accountability
(Harwood Institute Standards of Excellence in Public Engagement). This, in turn can increase
community support of decision makers, elected officials and encourage residents to help solve
public problems, instead of expecting the solutions to be presented to them ((Harwood Institute
Standards of Excellence in Public Engagement) Koestembaum effectively summarized that public
engagement will require us to: gain a level of comfort with conflicting ideas; recognize that many
good ideas can exist in opposition to one another, and consider that solutions to public problems
may be ambiguous, are necessarily complex, and are best envisioned by the many (Module 2
course notes, pg.2). In order for local governments to succeed at public engagement, we must move
away from the traditional concepts of seeking minimal

Disobedience And The Social Movements Of The Civil Rights...
Civil disobedience is present in our day to day lives. During the civil rights protests occurring in
Birmingham, AL, Eugene Connor was the Commissioner of Public Safety who publicly
attacked African Americans with fire hoses and dogs. The Boston Tea Party was a rebellion
which led to major tax reformation. Another moment in history of disobedience would be the
Civil Rights movement. Oscar Wilde claims social progress is promoted through disobedience
and rebellion which is valid. Disobedience and Rebellion are human traits that promote social
progress in our society. For example, the Civil Rights movement was a time where social equality
was not present and in order for it to be obtained, rebellion and disobedience had to be used. Rosa
Parkswas a civil rights activists who caused The Montgomery Bus Boycott. This event occurred
because Rosa Parks had rejected to give up her seat to a white person which was widely frowned
upon. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a political protest that went against the segregation
policy of the transport system and occurred from December 5, 1955 to December 20, 1956. On
all city transportation in Montgomery, African Americans were to remain in the back of all
trains and buses so whenever Rosa Parks had sat in the front it caused major upheaval. Many
people had claimed that Rosa Parks didn t give up her seat because she was tired but according to
Rosa Parks, I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a

Analysis Of Teenage Drivers
We has humans are prone to accidents. Because of this, you often see news articles consisting of
fatal and devastating crashes, of which are most oftenly new teen drivers. As such, there is extra
precautions taken by the government or the school you might go to to help prevent these crashes
from happening. In the article Teen Drivers the writer discusses many points on why these bizarre
accidents are in fact worse than they appear to be. As a result of reading the article, my views on
teenage drivinghave been confirmed.
Following the writer explains how teens driving is prone to accidents while driving with
friends. As Brian O Neill of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states, Put one teenager in
a car, and you may have a decent driver...Put four teenagers in a car, and you have a prescription
for immature, irresponsible behavior (Holt). This is a fact, have you ever been in a crowded car
in which everyone is talking? Maybe you happened to be the driver you the driver? If not, it is
not hard to imagine the emotions that the driver must be dealing with as they have to focus 360
degrees around them: on the road, on the lights, the cars around him/her, the marking on the road,
pedestrians. Maybe they are also inclined to state their input on the conversations in the car
possibly having to fulfill the demands of those passengers. Now, imagine that situation with a
teenager who just go their license, it is scary, I know; as The odds of having a serious accident

My Personal Statement On Elementary Education
I was home on leave after serving 15 months in Iraq, spending time with my family and
connecting with people I haven t seen in a while. My mother arranged for me to speak to my
brother s 3rd grade class since they had written letters to me while I was deployed. It was
something I felt that I owed since the letters were cheerful and really helped when I was over there.
I was a bit nervous because I have never done something like this before, public speaking was not a
strong suit of mine. While visiting with the students and answering questions I fell in love with
being in the classroom. After finishing my commitment to the military, I continued my education
and got my degree in Elementary Education. I am currently finishing up my 3rd year in teaching
2nd grade and love every minute of it.
Critical thinking is something that should be taking place during every lesson. I engage my
students in this higher level order thinking by asking multi level questions that may have more than
one answer. I also foster thoughtful discussions during out social learning lessons, such as
encouraging healthy debate. Being able to communicate and elaborate their thinking is important.
Because I teach at the primary level so sometimes in order to get students to engage in critical
thinking, I have to model it through discussion or through work. In the discussion, I use various
questioning strategies and use various introductory phrases in order get students to open up and

The Pact
With Teacher Comments
To say that I have a personal connection with any of the authors of The Pact (Books should be
underlined or in italics, but not in quotatations) would be a stretch at best. From the time before my
very first breath, my life has been completely different. Throughout the years, my life further
diverged, until you examine our (maybe use my instead of our makes the connection to yourself)

events, rather than situations. These situations (events you said to focus on the events rather than
the situations) are my connection to The Pact .

When he sold it, he was able to get a broken motorcycle, and repaired it, until he worked to own
his first Corvette. The skills he acquired financed his first year of college as an aerospace engineer.
After finding that the industry was basically flooded, and would not expect a rewarding career, he
intended to temporarily drop out, and change directions.
Shortly after he dropped out, he received word that he was being drafted by the military. He
struck a deal with the Navy that would send him to New Power school, which was a rigorous
nuclear engineering school. He had intended to stay away from the fighting, and by using his brain
he was able to. He was given a position as a nuclear engineer onboard the sister ship The

Outside of the military, he worked for nuclear power plants, and earned a Professional

Literature Review On Women With Disabilities
Women with Disabilities: Literature Review
Do not see my disability as a problem. Recognize that my disability is an attribute. Do not see
my disability as a deficit. It is you who see me as deviant and helpless. Do not try to fix me
because I am not broken (Kunc, 1995). In 1993, a 13 year old girl named Tracy Latimer was
murdered by her father because he believed that he was being merciful to her, due to her having
Cerebral Palsy. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence for individuals with
developmental disabilities. In 1995, Norman Kunc was deeply moved by Tracy s story and it
inspired him to write the Credo for Support that dramatically affected the rights of individuals with
disabilities. However, there are still many challenges that these people face. This is especially true
for women. Women with developmental disabilities face inequality and discrimination issues that
can cause lifelong consequences, such as in their ability to find and maintain employment, keep
basic human rights, and prevent various forms of abuse.
Obtaining employment is a right that many believe is foundational to humanity. However, despite
many laws banning discrimination against individuals with disabilities, it does still occur
frequently. Women with disabilities are affected even more so than men with the same disability.
According to Smith (2007), Women with a non severe disability have an employment rate of 68.4%
and men with a non severe disability have an employment rate of

Analysis Of Hunger Of Memory Richard Rodriguez
This story takes place in old Sacramento, California around the 1950 s. A lot of this excerpt from
Hunger of Memory covers Richard Rodriguez s childhood and how he has become a grown up.
He is the third of two Mexican immigrants in Sacramento and has two sisters and one brother.
Rodriguez shows his youth as unusual, because of to the battle between his private familylife and
his public life outside of the family. Before Rodriguez was seven, Spanish was the everyday
spoken language and is a part of his home, (qtd. par. 17)... Spanish seemed to me the language of

Language discrimination refers to the unfair treatment of an individual based solely upon the
characteristics of their speech; such as, accent, size of vocabulary, and syntax. It can also
involve a person s ability or inability to use one language instead of another (Workplace
Fairness). Rodriguez, goes through this stage a couple of times, he feels uncomfortable when
being asked to answer in English, because he is unable to really understand the question or
prompt. This really describes Richard, in paragraph 10 he says, At five years of age, I knew just
enough English for my mother to trust me on errands to stores one block away . This is an
example, of his vocabulary size and his inability to create a syntax. Richard is not the only one that

Social Medi A Big Part Of The Internet Industry
Social media Improvements have been made in technology causing the number of users on social

Therefore, social networking sites help people find others with similar interests; it helps sustain

Students use Facebook for personal reasons mainly, however now it is mostly being used for
academic reasons. Research has shown that clubs, groups, and news are being created and sent out

participating in academic groups and the whole college learning experience (Prescott, 2014).

Light And Dark Imagery Of London And Paris
The beginning of book one immediately starts out with dark and gory imagery of London
during the 18th century. A series of darkness and shadows continue along with a limited amount
of lightness where the sun rises into the bright sky. Light and darkness represent both good and
evil in the novel and these opposing forces reflect the moods during the French Revolution.
Furthermore, the use of light and dark imagery impacts the connotations associated with the
moral, philosophical and social issues, as well as ethics during this turbulent era.
The first line of A Tale of Two Citiesis It was the best of times, it was the worst of
times... (3) this suggests a distinction of the two cities, London and Paris. London was known
for being the peaceful home of the main characters, however Paris was quite the opposite
because of the vicious French Revolution. Within this dark imagery, Dicken s gives the reader
some tender moments with the loving and harmonious Lucie Manette (147). Lucie is one
character that shows true morals with great lightness. Dickens portrays Lucie as being delightful
and extremely beautiful and she has a great talent for bringing out the best in everyone in the
novel that surrounds her. She is one of the characters in the novel that hasn t fully evolved, but
she still manages to have great morals. Despite the fact that Lucie is a flat character, she is still

What Is Structural Functionalism
Structural Functionalism In society today, structural functionalism can be defined as looking at
society as a whole with all the small parts working together to make things run smoothly. For
example, these smaller parts are known as institutions. These may include: inequality, education,
religion, sports, politics etc. We as the people of tomorrow live in a very controversial society
where there are a lot of factors that restricts us from these types of institutions that may very well

The Marriage Of Figaro Analysis
The Marriage of Figaro During the first eighteen centuries AD the freedom of speech was under
brutal attack. Everywhere, in the world there was political instability. Different part of the world
was rocked by tyranny. In this time, to restore parity people had fought hard. One of the spotlight
was France. Although, the Roman Empire had split long time ago, the monarchical division of
the iron empire spread across the side of Europe. The revolution had to be choreographed
appropriately and carefully, to counter this growing European tyranny and aristocracy. An art was
used as a mode of communicating revolutionary ideas by artists. Using an art, a wave of
revolution was established in France which turn out to be a fruit for the people of France.
However, the force emerging from that piece of art was so high that no political opposition could

The World Bank And Imf
As a result of the inadequacies of the World Bank and IMF, Uganda today appears to be no better
off today then as they were in the year(s) prior to acquiring the assistance in debt relief in 1998.
According to Ana Eiras; Despite such a monstrous display of resources, according to the index of
economic freedom, the Bank s money has done nothing to improve the economic freedom in
recipient countries . Erias goes on to make it clear that many of the country s who have received
assistance have seen no change or economic improvement and are just as poor as they were many
years ago. There is a distinct ineffectiveness on the part of the World Bankand IMF to effectively
utilize their plethora of economic intelligence, strategic relationships, and technical and
industrial knowledge to help a country to an improved economic state. Uganda received as
much as $650 million in US dollars for the purposes of debt relief back in 1998. The relief was to
provide assistance in several ways to include an educational program, the purchase and
cancellation by HIPC Trust Fund of outstanding IDA credits the payment of debt service by
HIPC Trust Fund , savings on IDA charges associated with these instruments , (Press Release
1998). In short the World Bank was to cover as much as half of Uganda s annual debt. They were
awarded this because they had met the requirements , and Uganda was said to have the strongest
performing economies in Africa . (Press Release 1998) What was

The New Use of Information Technology in the Operating Room
The new use of information technology in the operating room: The future of telemedicine in the
OR for patients in underserved areas Information technology has become a critical component of
all facets of healthcare and has taken on increased prominence in operating rooms as well as in
other components of care such as diagnosis and screening. No longer mainly used for improved
electronic record keeping (although this is one of its strengths), information technology is
changing the healthcare system in profound ways. The gap between information technology and
clinical technology has been getting smaller and more and more functions of IT are now part and
parcel of ordinary surgical procedures (Lockridge 2013). For example, while x rays and MRIs are
historically a clinical technology but now they re being captured digitally and used in electronic
medical records and for image guided surgery, bringing them into the realm of information
technology (Lockridge 2013). One of the most up and coming fields featuring new technology is
that of telemedicine or remote medical technology: once it was mainly relegated to consultation,
now it has also been applied in the operating room. The use of telemedicine to break the isolation of
the operating room is a highly achievable goal. An open operating room has information on demand
for the personnel, fluid communication among operating room personnel, and broad interaction
with the learner community and consultants. In an operating

Lesson Reflection Essay
Today, I arrived to Hanover Horton about ten minutes early so that I could talk to Mrs. Beach
about the ideas that I had for the lesson that I will be teaching next Tuesday. We had a great
conversation about some different methods that I could use to teach the lesson. I also talked with
her about the students that I need to make differentiation considerations for. Mrs. Beach provided
me with some great suggestions on how to help these students understand the material. She also
suggested that I look for signs of frustration. The three students that I am looking out for become
frustrated easily if they do not understand what is going on. I made sure that when I created my
lessonplan, that I had some great ways to differentiate for them. Near the end of our conversation, I
had many wonderful ideas to work with. At 10:15, the students came in and got started on their
math lessons. Mrs. Beach taught the higher learners the lesson in a small group. These small group
lessons are wonderful for differentiating instruction because Mrs. Beach is able to challenge the
higher level students by giving them challenge questions using the skills that they have been
practicing, but it also allows her to break down the material for the struggling students. The lower
learners worked on Zearn. During this period of time, I walked around the classroom and helped
the students on Zearn. While doing this, I realized that even though Zearn is a great program, it
does have some flaws. For example,

Justification And Justifications Of Motive Talks Basing...
Introduction
The purpose of the paper that I am writing is to reveal accounts of excuses and justifications
within motive talks basing exposure on any and all delinquent behaviors that politicians or those
yet to attain power. Forgetting who it was that got them elected to begin with, indulgences in
uncanny behaviors, there are those who are seen as wholly incompetent of being human let alone
be in positions of power. These accounts are more than recent ranging from May 2015 to March
2016, showcasing how not all those who have been elected by the people with their false promises
did not deserve the support they got. Able to blatantly disregard all rules, laws, regulations bending
the law just to accommodate themselves, where anyone else would normally be prosecuted. Three
accounts analyzing articles will be developed upon in this paper the first, condemning the
condemner, the second, appeal to higher loyalty, and lastly, scapegoating. Each of these accounts is
directly represented by their respective articles and how power absentmindedly leads to corruption.
Definitions Section The commonsense definition of motives that I had before the course was that
motives can be seen as the reasons that enable us to make certain decisions regarding our actions.
To me a motive was or could be looked at as an incentive, something that could push a human in
terms of having made a clear and definitive reason for undertaking or embarking on certain
endeavors. Being the reason why one

Giambologn Art Analysis
Our first piece of art, on the left, is titled Rape of a Sabine by Giambologna in 1583. This is a
three dimensional sculpture that has many curves and points of view. You can circle around this
sculpture and find aspects of it you couldn t visualize at one point. The faces of the sculptured
men and woman have a look of despair, sorrow, and misery that create for a very dramatic piece.
Rape of the Sabine tells a story of roman men seizing Sabine women to marry them in order for
the city of Rome to grow and become more powerful than it was. Our second artwork it named

New Social Movement Essay
Social movements have become an important aspect of life to attempt to improve the world around
us, and to project highly supported ideas such as things like animal rights, gay rights, climate
change, black lives matter, and working class movements such as the equal pay movement. Social
movements such as these are the key actors within our societies that challenge the higher powers to
create or to start to create a change worldwide. One paradigm that has arisen within the realm of
sociologyis the NSM, which is the new social movements paradigm. The European new social
movement studies (NSM) is a critical approach within the study of social movements, which
stresses the elements of both macrohistorical and microhistorical theories of social movements
(Pichardo, N. A., 1997). Secondly, it explores the extreme change within European/Western
societies when it comes to the reasoning of social movements in the post industrial era. These
reasoning s are the shift that began during the 1960 s between being mainly political reasoning to
becoming more human rights focused . This essay will give an evaluation of the new social
movement theory (NSW) approach to social movements, some main theorists within the field and
will lastly, touch upon how this certain approach relates to the state.
The pioneer of this certain social movement theory was a French sociologist named Alain Touraine,
who is also well known for using the term post industrial society originally, Touraine was

Guantanamo Bay At The Southeastern Tip Of Cuba
In the Caribbean at the southeastern tip of Cuba is Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. The United
States began leasing this area in 1903 making it the oldest overseas U.S. Navy base. Guantanamo
Bay allows the U.S. an area to establish a detention facility in a secure and isolated location
eliminating any chance the detainees could escape and return back to their countries. In addition,
Guantanamo Bay allowed the U.S. to avoid bringing those individuals suspected of terrorism from
entering domestic soil. As of today, Guantanamo Bay only holds 80 detainees. Since the attack on
the World Trade Center, the US has been holding detainees without trial and there have been
reports of torture being used. This is not only unconstitutional but also immoral, Guantanamo Bay
needs to be shut down. Throughout the last 15 years of operation, Guantanamo Bay has faced
endless criticism from both international countries and the US. The biggest issue is the legal black
hole that exists at Guantanamo Bay and the concern over interrogation techniques and torture. We
are able to torture prisoners because of how George W Bush described the war. Bush thought it
was a new kind of war and that this meant the Americans didn t need adhere the rules of the
Geneva Convention, explains Professor Honigsberg from the University of San Francisco. The
convention says prisoners of war must be treated humanely during a war. But Bush didn t call them

Military Alliance System Essay
Firstly, the Alliance system contributed to the outbreak of WWI. One such example of the
Alliance system would be Bismarck s Dual Alliance in 1879, Triple Alliance in 1882, and the
Triple Entente in 1907. In 1878, Germany and Austria Hungary formed the Dual Alliance, in a bid
to increase security. It was enlarged to the Triple Alliance
when Italy joined in 1882. The Triple
Alliance was a defensive military alliance where the signatories were required to provide military
support to each other should one of them be engaged in a battle. In response to the Triple Alliance,
Russia, who considered Austria Hungary as her main rival, sought to ally herself alongside with
France, and eventually Britain as well, hence creating the Triple Entente. The... Show more content

was a Bosnian Serb nationalist who was a member of the Black Hand, an anti Austrian terrorist

Germany had promised to support Austria and agreed that Austria should be given a free hand to

of unreasonable demands and only gave Serbia 48 hours to reply. However, when Serbia replied
that they would agree with all the demands except allowing Austrian army into the country, Austria
rejected this reply and declared war where she began bombing Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
With this declaration of war, Russia, being involved in an alliance with Serbia, ordered her army to

Rossellini engaged Fellini as a writer for Open City, which was an influential film in the Italian
Neorealism movement, and earned him his first Oscar nomination for his contributions to the film
(Encyclopaedia Britannica). Rossellini came to Fellini at his Funny Face Shop, which he had
opened up with Enrico De Seta, where they were living during the postwar recession drawing
caricatures of American soldiers. Rossellini came to Fellini to add gags to his script (Kezich 78).
After this Fellini quickly became a prominent scriptwriter with his most known contribution to
Italian cinema as a scriptwriter through Rossellini in films such as the 1946 PaisГ . Fellini
eventually made his director debut in collaboration with Lattuada in their 1950 film Luci del

very poor reviews and left Lattuada and Fellini with debts to pay for over a decade and the
production company bankrupt (Kezich 114). In 1951 Fellini had his first solo directed feature Lo

feature starred Alberto Sordi in a revised version of Michelangelo Antonioni s work. Antonioni

Stonehenge Essay
There are few ancient structures in the world that captivate the imagination and the critical mind of
both the scholarly and ordinary individual as Stonehenge. This intriguingly mysterious Neolithic
monument is located near Amesbury in Wiltshire, England and draws thousands of spectators to its
arena each year.
The oldest part of Stonehenge, called Stonehenge I (constructed ca. 3100 BCE), consists of little
more than a circular ditch dug in the soil of the Salisbury plain, with the excess soil piled up to
make an embankment approximately six feet tall. This area is approximately three hundred thirty
feet in diameter, and encompasses Stonehenge proper the familiar circles of massive stones that
once stood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The who s, how s, and why s behind this majestic monument are based on many (usually
conflicting) myths, guesstimates, and theories. As a result, we have no definite answers for the
probing questions about Stonehenge s existence. However, each theory grants the Neolithic
monument its character and mystique, as well as society s best guesses as to its true origin and
purpose. Therefore, I shall proceed to discuss both the fantastical and probable theories behind the
mystery of Stonehenge.
In 1963, British astronomer Gerald Hawkins published an article in Nature, followed by a book,
Stonehenge Decoded, and proposed a hypothesis for at least one purpose of this ancient monument.
Standing in the center of Stonehenge, Hawkins recognized twenty four lines of sight amongst the
stones, and later discovered that these lines pointed to significant astronomical events. The most
famous of these are the alignments that point to the spot on the horizon on which the sun rises on
the summer and winter solstices; but there were many lines pointing to the rising and setting of the
full moon near to those dates as well. Hawkins discovered that Stonehenge was not only a religious
site, but also an astronomical observatory and calendar. Stonehenge was a device by which the
builders could tell, on an annual basis, when Earth arrived at a certain point in its orbit around the
sun. (Trefil

Improvements to the original frequency weighted balanced truncation by Enns have been described
in cite{Ghafoor2007PFE,SreeramSahlan2012,SreeramSahlanMudaPFE2013}. Schelfhout and
Moor pointed out that many specifications and robustness requirements yield natural frequency
domain weighting functions but in other cases time domain weighting functions are more
appropriate which led to the introduction of time weighted controllability and observability
gramians for the balanced truncation algorithm cite{SchelfhoutMoor1995}. Sreeram had defined
the frequency response error bounds for time weighted balanced truncation
cite{TimeWeightedSreeram2002}. More recently Shaker and Tahavori had introduced time
weighted balanced stochastic truncation cite{TahavoriShaker2012,TahavoriShaker2011}. Cross
gramians matrices contain information regarding both controllability and observability of a system
in a single matrics cite{FernandoNicholson1983,FernandoNicholson1984}. Instead of computing
two separate gramians for controllability and observability, states which are the least controllable
and observable can be identified from a single cross gramian matrics and these states can be
truncated. Model reduction using cross gramians does not involve balancing which is an advantage
since balancing may be ill conditioned for systems with almost uncontrollable and unobservable
states cite{Aldhaheri2006}.

Phytophthora ramorum Susceptibility as Measure of Leaf Age by Primary Reservoir Host
California Bay Laurel
Abstrct
Sudden Oak Death, a disease caused by the protist Phytophthora ramorum has contributed
significantly to the degradation of Oak Woodland communities from Oregon to California since its
invasion in 1995, yet many questions remain about their primary reservoir host Umbellularia
.Californica. U. Californica leaves resulted in an increased susceptibility with from first to past
years leaf growth while the water content within the leaf had no influence on the magnitude of
necrosis.
Introduction
Sudden Oak Death, a disease caused by the protist Phytophthora ramorum, is sweeping through
California, dismantling Oak Woodland communities. First observed in Germany and the
Netherlands infecting species of Rhododendron and Viburnum, symptoms of the pathogen include;
the browning of leaves, large bleeding cankers, and mortality in several species (Harmon). In the
Central Coast of California, host species include, but are not limited to, the Quercus sp.,
Notholithocarpus sp., and Umbellularia sp. Quercus and Notholithocarpus being terminal host and
Umbellularia being a reservoir host (DiLeo).
Within the genus Phytophthora, species have different morphology, but several have been
associated with oak mortality. For example, in California, P. cinnimomi, P. cactorum, and P.
citricula can cause root and crown rot in oaks. Proliferation of these Phytophthora sp. were seen in

This is a tale of what impact being in Vietnam has on an outsider. Mary Anne, in many ways, is
just like the other soldiers. She arrives in Vietnam as a young innocent girl in a place she doesn t

embodiment of innocence is so pure that the only other character she would compare to is Rat

up in the middle of the jungle with one of those plastic cosmetic bags (O Brien 86). The
significance of the parallels between Rat and Mary Anne s innocence stems from the fact this
far fetched story comes from Rat Kiley. One key moment of symbolism in the end of the chapter
is an interaction between Rat Kiley and Mark Fossie. Mark says she can t just let her go like
that (O Brien 107). Rat then responds by saying Man, you must be deaf. She s already gone (O

symbolizes innocence, has left without Mark being aware of her departure. This is symbolic for

Straight Line-Personal Narrative
Although, Straight Line was hurt, I refused to give up, I endlessly searched to locate a

we hauled her home. Thrilled is not a word I would use to describe the idea of running on her,
but what choice did I have. I needed a horse, any horse to ride at the finals, since Straight Line
was no longer able to run. Princess and my personalities clashed, there is only room for one
princess and I already occupied that position. Trust me when I say that typically mares have
bigger attitudes, than most teenage girls. Even though, I gave it my best shot, considering my
situation, we just could not find a rhythm together. Despite of my efforts, I knew it was going to
be a long week as I unsaddled her after the worst practice that I had ever had. Consequently, I
remember walking to the barn from the arena and feeling the blood run down my leg from

Ellen Winner s Gifted Children
In the 1996 book Gifted children: Myths and realities by Ellen Winner, the author of over 100
articles and four books, takes the opposing view in this work to the more current studies regarding
producing giftedness through effort, as her study here defends a heavier influence played by brain
development. She recognizes three characteristics found in gifted children: precocity, an insistence
to marching to the beat of their own drummer, and what she calls a rage to master, or better stated,
a driving force to gain mastery over what the gifted student has a special proclivity toward
understanding and doing. Winner also illustrates many of the myths that follow the idea of what
gifted children should be able to do. Through her research, one of

Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII2
Introduction
In the year 1913, Kandinsky created the composition VII, which became one the most talked about
painting of the century. A very interesting fact about Kandinsky is his devotion to colors. His
painting s meaning will be revealed if you know the color symbolism. Through the years 1918 to
1921, Kandinsky dedicated his time to learn more about form and color analyses.
Historical position:
A year before the World War II began, that is, in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually the color black will be used to draw the outlines of the subject or an object but Kandinsky
uses the color to show the depth of an emotion. Kandinsky is more of a composer than an artist,
simply because it composes his painting rather than painting them. No color has its own meaning.
When colors are mixed together, they create a meaning together. Kandinsky lets the energy of one
color to flow from one to another.
For instance, the color blue next to green creates an entirely different feeling inside a person
rather than when placed next to red. It is a composition of colors and textures on a canvas.
Kandinsky s paintings have given a new meaning to music to the deaf viewers. For a person, who
has never heard of music, Kandinsky s painting will be a life changing experience.
Kandinsky did almost 30 preparatory drawings but it is so stunning to learn that after all the
preparatory exercises, he executed the painting in less than four days. The preparatory of this
painting includes fifteen other variants. And the variants include drawings, water colors, wood cuts,
and oil paintings on the related themes. It is said
Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII4 that, Kandinsky s composition VII is a combination of the
resurrection of the Christ, The last judgement, and The Garden of Love in an operatic outburst of
pure painting.
According to Kandinsky music is an ultimate teacher ... a concept that imposed on his first seven of
his ten Compositions, Out

The Impact of Emerging Technology on the Public Sector Essay
The Impact of Emerging Technology on the Public Sector
The impact of information technology has been tremendous within the public sector. Over the
years, the growth and development of technology has caused the public sector to change. One of the
most significant changes in technology has been the evolution of the information systems and how
their development has reshaped the way the world uses technology. It has been just over fifty years
since the worlds first programmable computer became operational. It cost millions of dollars to
build and processed an unprecedented 5,000 instructions per second. By 1971, Intel was able to pack
25 times that power into a single, two hundred dollar chip. Today s personal computersprocess ...

E mail
Electronic mail is utilized by various local, state and federal entities. E mail provides a high
level of convenience and accuracy in communication. Over 40 million workers correspond via e
mail and that number is increasing 20% per year .[ii] Electronic mail (e mail) is a form of
correspondence that has become a popular form of communication in the public sector. Given its
ease of use and convenience, e mail is becoming the correspondence of choice through local, state
and federal governments. E mail is used to coordinate various levels of government, communicate
information rapidly and disseminate information to a wide variety of persons in the quickest
manner possible. E mail also delivers cost benefits when compared to the cost of postal services.
Computerization
In today s public sector environment virtually all federal, state and local government use computers.
Computerization has streamlined repetitive processes, promoting a more cost effective and
efficient use of information technology. Studies suggest that managers look to information
technology to streamline work processes, enable easier access and retrieval of information, provide
better products and services, save money by avoiding workforce expansion, speed up transactions
and provide better data security. [iii]

Epic Poetry and Beowulf Pg
Epic poems have a unique set of characteristics that distinguish them from just an ordinary poem.
An epic poem must contain a hero that is male, noble, and of importance to society who gives long
formal speeches and travels over a vast setting. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the reader can see
distinct Anglo Saxon political, economic, and religious values in the actions of the characters and
the things happening around them. Wealth in the Anglo Saxon society, as seen in Beowulf
, was used
as a means of reparations, rewards, and political standings. One can also tell that the Anglo Saxons
where in a state of limbo between Christian and Pagan beliefs because of the ideas expressed by
the heroand his colleagues in Beowulf. The political standings... Show more content on

Paganism can also be found during the poem when the narrator discusses fate, the nonexistence
of an afterlife, and the concept of fate. Before entering the dragons tower Beowulf tells his
followers that he will fight until fate decides which of us [he or the dragon] wins (Beowulf pg.
53). Fate is only a belief in Pagan religion; Christians don t believe in a predetermined destiny.
When Beowulf is fighting the dragon and he begins to sense defeat he reflects on a journey into
darkness that all men must make, as death ends their few brief hours on earth. (Beowulf pg.54).
This journey into darkness alerts the reader that Beowulf believes that his only life is here on
earth and will venture on to darkness with no afterlife. Christians believe that there is a life after
death in heaven as opposed to Pagans who believe in death as an end of existence.
Scattered in the poem the reader can find literary devices including stock epithets, kennings,
alliteration, allusions, hyperbole, and imagery. Stock epithets are adjectives that point out a
special trait of a character. One example of a stock epithet can be found in line 324 of Beowulf
when Grendel is described as being a sin stained demon (Beowulf pg. 42). A kenning is a poetic
synonym found in Germanic poems as seen when Beowulf is called the noble protector of all
seamen (Beowulf pg.50). Alliteration is the repetition of

Eyewitness Testimony On The Criminal Justice System
Psychological research shows that eyewitness testimony is not always accurate; therefore it should
not be used in the criminal justice system. Discuss.
Word Count: 2,589
There has been considerable interest and study in the accuracy or inaccuracy of the use of
eyewitness testimonies in the current criminal justice system. Results collated by several studies
add to the bulk of literature suggesting that the current usage of eyewitness testimony by the legal
system is far from ideal. Currently, high emphasis is being placed on reviewing and reconsidering
eyewitness accounts (Leinfelt, 2004). In particular, recent DNA exoneration cases have
substantiated the warnings of eyewitness identification researchers by showing that mistaken
eyewitness identification was the largest single factor contributing to the conviction of innocent
people (Wells Olson, 2003). In this essay, the use of eyewitness testimony in the criminal justice
system will be explored, with a particular focus on the impreciseness of this practice.
Although Although theoretically conferencing may be seen as a viable alternative for adolescents
to court proceedings, and indeed some evidence suggests it reduces recidivism, it will ultimately be
concluded that the success of restorative justice programs depends on more than just its ability to
reduce recidivism, and thus it will not always provide a useful alternative to more traditional
criminal justice approaches.

In the first few pages of Wild, it describes the present being of strayed but is quickly followed by
flashbacks to her past. These flashbacks are a reminder of how the story has reached the point
where it opened, on the Pacific Coast Trail (PCT). This book is more than a memoir recounting
just her hike up the western coast; it is a story of her life s journey. It explains how who she
presently is directly determined by who she used to be. Each step on the trail is another step
forward in her growth. Her challenges in her youth created background to give her strength and

Instead they explain how he blamed his father s leaving as the reason for him never being a
good person with a good set of ethics and morals. To extent it is fair to say that the morals of one
father was different than the others but as Cheryl Strayed puts it in Wild, The father s job is to
teach his children how to be warriors, to give them the confidence to get on the horse to ride
into battle when it s necessary to do so. If you don t get that from your father, you have to teach
yourself. (Part 4) Yes, there is some responsibility for a father to act appropriately, but it is not a
justifiable excuse for a child without a father to say they cannot do the same things as a child
with an engaged father. Strayed proved that in her own journey because in taking the Hike on
the PCT she was recognizing she could no longer excuse her lapses in character or her lack of
paternal care. Strayed wasn t doing drugs because of her father never being there, she was doing
drugs because she felt that was what people without father who cared did. However If Strayed
wanted to change she didn t need a father. By stopping and changing the course of her life Strayed
proves the defeated Wes wrong and confirms the claim that it was not the actions of another during
her up bringing that affected her being a good person, but her reaction to the actions of another in
her youth that impacted how she thought and went about life, always

  • 4. gods bits of wood Essay Sembene Ousmane s novel, Gods Bits of Wood, gives a highly detailed story of the railway strike of 1947 48 in French West Africa. It contains conflicts of political, emotional and moral nature. Ultimately, Sembene s novel is one of empowerment. It brings to light the tension between colonial officials and the African community among the railwaymen as well as the struggle of the African community to free itself from being subjected to colonial power. Frederick Cooper s article, Our Strike: Equality, Anticolonial politics and the 1947 48 Railway Strike in FrenchWest Africa, helps reveal the strike s true meaning and agenda by analyzing the conflicts present in Sembene s novel. Not only does this statement show Bakayoko s leadership in affairs of the strike, but it reveals sentiments of the African community that their language needs to be recognized. At that same meeting, when having to choose the number of delegates to represent the railway men Bakayoko states, There is no necessity for that. They didn t set any limit on the number of representatives they would have, we ll all go over together (Sembene 178). Again, Bakayoko is expressing the need for the railway men to be recognized and that since the French leaders have no limit on the number of delegates, it is only fair that the railway men not be limited either. Fa Keita is also looked upon as a man of great importance. His arrest by French militiamen reinforces this idea. From the beginning of the novel the people constantly look to Fa Keita for direction and guidance, calling him the old one . • 7. Syntax Of Syntax In Hamlet In Act 2, Scene 2 of Hamlet, Shakespeare creates an image of Hamlet by using syntax to reveal his state of mind. In this soliloquy, it is revealed that Hamlet not only is on the verge of insanity, but he also has reason. Previous to this soliloquy, Hamlet finds out that his uncle, Claudius, kills his father and then marries his mother afterwards. This betrayal of his family, mixed with the visits by his father s ghost, guides Hamlet towards seeking revenge. The manner in which the words are organized and the sentences are structured is called syntax. Throughout this soliloquy, Shakespeare uses syntax to allow for the audience to see inside Hamlet s head. For example, in the beginning, Hamlet is furious, and his words show it. His sentences are long and confused, followed by short bursts of anger and refusal. Hamlet is jealous that a player can act out his emotions, but that he himself is suffering to seek revenge. The series of questions throughout the whole play help the reader to understand that Hamlet does not fully believe in his cause. By not believing, but still acting on his duty, suggests that Hamlet is perhaps going insane. If there is no truthin the ghost s accusations, Hamlet is planning to killhis uncle just for fun. The visit by his father s ghost, though, has reasonable doubt to Hamlet, as he feels that it may just be the devil trying to create his downfall. In lines 543, the reader sees that Hamlet feels he is a coward. Since Hamlet asks, Am I a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do not see my disability as a deficit. It is you who see me as deviant and helpless. Do not try to fix me because I am not broken (Kunc, 1995). In 1993, a 13 year old girl named Tracy Latimer was murdered by her father because he believed that he was being merciful to her, due to her having Cerebral Palsy. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence for individuals with developmental disabilities. In 1995, Norman Kunc was deeply moved by Tracy s story and it inspired him to write the Credo for Support that dramatically affected the rights of individuals with disabilities. However, there are still many challenges that these people face. This is especially true for women. Women with developmental disabilities face inequality and discrimination issues that can cause lifelong consequences, such as in their ability to find and maintain employment, keep basic human rights, and prevent various forms of abuse. Obtaining employment is a right that many believe is foundational to humanity. However, despite many laws banning discrimination against individuals with disabilities, it does still occur frequently. A series of darkness and shadows continue along with a limited amount of lightness where the sun rises into the bright sky. Light and darkness represent both good and evil in the novel and these opposing forces reflect the moods during the French Revolution. Furthermore, the use of light and dark imagery impacts the connotations associated with the moral, philosophical and social issues, as well as ethics during this turbulent era. What Is Structural Functionalism Structural Functionalism In society today, structural functionalism can be defined as looking at society as a whole with all the small parts working together to make things run smoothly. For example, these smaller parts are known as institutions. Everywhere, in the world there was political instability. Different part of the world was rocked by tyranny. In this time, to restore parity people had fought hard. One of the spotlight was France. Although, the Roman Empire had split long time ago, the monarchical division of the iron empire spread across the side of Europe. The revolution had to be choreographed appropriately and carefully, to counter this growing European tyranny and aristocracy. An art was used as a mode of communicating revolutionary ideas by artists. Using an art, a wave of revolution was established in France which turn out to be a fruit for the people of France. The World Bank And Imf As a result of the inadequacies of the World Bank and IMF, Uganda today appears to be no better off today then as they were in the year(s) prior to acquiring the assistance in debt relief in 1998. According to Ana Eiras; Despite such a monstrous display of resources, according to the index of economic freedom, the Bank s money has done nothing to improve the economic freedom in recipient countries . Erias goes on to make it clear that many of the country s who have received assistance have seen no change or economic improvement and are just as poor as they were many years ago. There is a distinct ineffectiveness on the part of the World Bankand IMF to effectively utilize their plethora of economic intelligence, strategic relationships, and technical and industrial knowledge to help a country to an improved economic state. Uganda received as much as $650 million in US dollars for the purposes of debt relief back in 1998. The relief was to provide assistance in several ways to include an educational program, the purchase and cancellation by HIPC Trust Fund of outstanding IDA credits the payment of debt service by HIPC Trust Fund , savings on IDA charges associated with these instruments , (Press Release 1998). • 24. The New Use of Information Technology in the Operating Room The new use of information technology in the operating room: The future of telemedicine in the OR for patients in underserved areas Information technology has become a critical component of all facets of healthcare and has taken on increased prominence in operating rooms as well as in other components of care such as diagnosis and screening. No longer mainly used for improved electronic record keeping (although this is one of its strengths), information technology is changing the healthcare system in profound ways. The gap between information technology and clinical technology has been getting smaller and more and more functions of IT are now part and parcel of ordinary surgical procedures (Lockridge 2013). For example, while x rays and MRIs are historically a clinical technology but now they re being captured digitally and used in electronic medical records and for image guided surgery, bringing them into the realm of information technology (Lockridge 2013). One of the most up and coming fields featuring new technology is that of telemedicine or remote medical technology: once it was mainly relegated to consultation, now it has also been applied in the operating room. The use of telemedicine to break the isolation of the operating room is a highly achievable goal. An open operating room has information on demand for the personnel, fluid communication among operating room personnel, and broad interaction with the learner community and consultants. We had a great conversation about some different methods that I could use to teach the lesson. I also talked with her about the students that I need to make differentiation considerations for. Mrs. Beach provided me with some great suggestions on how to help these students understand the material. She also suggested that I look for signs of frustration. The three students that I am looking out for become frustrated easily if they do not understand what is going on. I made sure that when I created my lessonplan, that I had some great ways to differentiate for them. Near the end of our conversation, I had many wonderful ideas to work with. At 10:15, the students came in and got started on their math lessons. Mrs. Beach taught the higher learners the lesson in a small group. These small group lessons are wonderful for differentiating instruction because Mrs. Beach is able to challenge the higher level students by giving them challenge questions using the skills that they have been practicing, but it also allows her to break down the material for the struggling students. The lower learners worked on Zearn. During this period of time, I walked around the classroom and helped the students on Zearn. Forgetting who it was that got them elected to begin with, indulgences in uncanny behaviors, there are those who are seen as wholly incompetent of being human let alone be in positions of power. These accounts are more than recent ranging from May 2015 to March 2016, showcasing how not all those who have been elected by the people with their false promises did not deserve the support they got. Able to blatantly disregard all rules, laws, regulations bending the law just to accommodate themselves, where anyone else would normally be prosecuted. One paradigm that has arisen within the realm of sociologyis the NSM, which is the new social movements paradigm. The European new social movement studies (NSM) is a critical approach within the study of social movements, which stresses the elements of both macrohistorical and microhistorical theories of social movements (Pichardo, N. Therefore, I shall proceed to discuss both the fantastical and probable theories behind the mystery of Stonehenge. In 1963, British astronomer Gerald Hawkins published an article in Nature, followed by a book, Stonehenge Decoded, and proposed a hypothesis for at least one purpose of this ancient monument. Standing in the center of Stonehenge, Hawkins recognized twenty four lines of sight amongst the stones, and later discovered that these lines pointed to significant astronomical events. The most famous of these are the alignments that point to the spot on the horizon on which the sun rises on the summer and winter solstices; but there were many lines pointing to the rising and setting of the full moon near to those dates as well. Hawkins discovered that Stonehenge was not only a religious site, but also an astronomical observatory and calendar. Stonehenge was a device by which the builders could tell, on an annual basis, when Earth arrived at a certain point in its orbit around the sun. (Trefil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Straight Line-Personal Narrative Although, Straight Line was hurt, I refused to give up, I endlessly searched to locate a replacement horse. Thus came Princess, a buckskin mare that I borrowed from an acquaintance of my sisters. My mother and I traveled to Goodland for a little test run and at the end of the day we hauled her home. Thrilled is not a word I would use to describe the idea of running on her, but what choice did I have. I needed a horse, any horse to ride at the finals, since Straight Line was no longer able to run. Princess and my personalities clashed, there is only room for one princess and I already occupied that position. Trust me when I say that typically mares have bigger attitudes, than most teenage girls. Even though, I gave it my best shot, considering my situation, we just could not find a rhythm together. Despite of my efforts, I knew it was going to be a long week as I unsaddled her after the worst practice that I had ever had. Consequently, I remember walking to the barn from the arena and feeling the blood run down my leg from clobbering the barrels. I had bruises, all up and down my legs, from plowing into barrels during our one and only practice. Finals were approaching fast and I could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I unsaddled Princess, changed out of my jeans, and accepted I was done. The relief came after I finally reined in my tears, but then came the flood of embarrassment. I plowed over all three barrels on a national stage. My loving family which they are, laughed and still laugh about my horrible run. Typically, I can handle an embarrassing situation, but the fact that it was broadcasted on national television discouraged me. Even today the video is re ran on RFD TV. I am not longer affected by the laughs or the jokes made on my behalf, I even join in every now and then. The experience taught me that sometimes life is going to suck; however, it is so much better when you laugh at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Ellen Winner s Gifted Children In the 1996 book Gifted children: Myths and realities by Ellen Winner, the author of over 100 articles and four books, takes the opposing view in this work to the more current studies regarding producing giftedness through effort, as her study here defends a heavier influence played by brain development. She recognizes three characteristics found in gifted children: precocity, an insistence to marching to the beat of their own drummer, and what she calls a rage to master, or better stated, a driving force to gain mastery over what the gifted student has a special proclivity toward understanding and doing. Winner also illustrates many of the myths that follow the idea of what gifted children should be able to do. Through her research, one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wassily Kandinsky – Composition Vii Essay Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII1 Renegade of the Early Twentieth Century: Wassily Kandinsky: Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII Diana Prakash Understanding art Professor Judith Gibson Vick Sunday, June 26, 2011 Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII2 Introduction In the year 1913, Kandinsky created the composition VII, which became one the most talked about painting of the century. A very interesting fact about Kandinsky is his devotion to colors. His painting s meaning will be revealed if you know the color symbolism. Through the years 1918 to 1921, Kandinsky dedicated his time to learn more about form and color analyses. Historical position: A year before the World War II began, that is, in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Usually the color black will be used to draw the outlines of the subject or an object but Kandinsky uses the color to show the depth of an emotion. Kandinsky is more of a composer than an artist, simply because it composes his painting rather than painting them. No color has its own meaning. When colors are mixed together, they create a meaning together. Kandinsky lets the energy of one color to flow from one to another. For instance, the color blue next to green creates an entirely different feeling inside a person rather than when placed next to red. It is a composition of colors and textures on a canvas. Kandinsky s paintings have given a new meaning to music to the deaf viewers. For a person, who has never heard of music, Kandinsky s painting will be a life changing experience. Kandinsky did almost 30 preparatory drawings but it is so stunning to learn that after all the preparatory exercises, he executed the painting in less than four days. The preparatory of this painting includes fifteen other variants. And the variants include drawings, water colors, wood cuts, and oil paintings on the related themes. It is said Wassily Kandinsky Composition VII4 that, Kandinsky s composition VII is a combination of the resurrection of the Christ, The last judgement, and The Garden of Love in an operatic outburst of pure painting. The Impact of Emerging Technology on the Public Sector Essay The Impact of Emerging Technology on the Public Sector The impact of information technology has been tremendous within the public sector. Over the years, the growth and development of technology has caused the public sector to change. One of the most significant changes in technology has been the evolution of the information systems and how their development has reshaped the way the world uses technology. It has been just over fifty years since the worlds first programmable computer became operational. It cost millions of dollars to build and processed an unprecedented 5,000 instructions per second. By 1971, Intel was able to pack 25 times that power into a single, two hundred dollar chip. Today s personal computersprocess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 47. Epic Poetry and Beowulf Pg Epic poems have a unique set of characteristics that distinguish them from just an ordinary poem. An epic poem must contain a hero that is male, noble, and of importance to society who gives long formal speeches and travels over a vast setting. In the epic poem, Beowulf, the reader can see distinct Anglo Saxon political, economic, and religious values in the actions of the characters and the things happening around them. Wealth in the Anglo Saxon society, as seen in Beowulf , was used as a means of reparations, rewards, and political standings. One can also tell that the Anglo Saxons where in a state of limbo between Christian and Pagan beliefs because of the ideas expressed by the heroand his colleagues in Beowulf. The political standings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paganism can also be found during the poem when the narrator discusses fate, the nonexistence of an afterlife, and the concept of fate. Before entering the dragons tower Beowulf tells his followers that he will fight until fate decides which of us [he or the dragon] wins (Beowulf pg. 53). Fate is only a belief in Pagan religion; Christians don t believe in a predetermined destiny. When Beowulf is fighting the dragon and he begins to sense defeat he reflects on a journey into darkness that all men must make, as death ends their few brief hours on earth. (Beowulf pg.54). This journey into darkness alerts the reader that Beowulf believes that his only life is here on earth and will venture on to darkness with no afterlife. Christians believe that there is a life after death in heaven as opposed to Pagans who believe in death as an end of existence. Scattered in the poem the reader can find literary devices including stock epithets, kennings, alliteration, allusions, hyperbole, and imagery. Stock epithets are adjectives that point out a special trait of a character. One example of a stock epithet can be found in line 324 of Beowulf when Grendel is described as being a sin stained demon (Beowulf pg. 42). A kenning is a poetic synonym found in Germanic poems as seen when Beowulf is called the noble protector of all seamen (Beowulf pg.50). Alliteration is the repetition of ... • 48. Eyewitness Testimony On The Criminal Justice System Psychological research shows that eyewitness testimony is not always accurate; therefore it should not be used in the criminal justice system. Discuss. Word Count: 2,589 There has been considerable interest and study in the accuracy or inaccuracy of the use of eyewitness testimonies in the current criminal justice system. Results collated by several studies add to the bulk of literature suggesting that the current usage of eyewitness testimony by the legal system is far from ideal. Currently, high emphasis is being placed on reviewing and reconsidering eyewitness accounts (Leinfelt, 2004). In particular, recent DNA exoneration cases have substantiated the warnings of eyewitness identification researchers by showing that mistaken eyewitness identification was the largest single factor contributing to the conviction of innocent people (Wells Olson, 2003). In this essay, the use of eyewitness testimony in the criminal justice system will be explored, with a particular focus on the impreciseness of this practice. Although Although theoretically conferencing may be seen as a viable alternative for adolescents to court proceedings, and indeed some evidence suggests it reduces recidivism, it will ultimately be concluded that the success of restorative justice programs depends on more than just its ability to reduce recidivism, and thus it will not always provide a useful alternative to more traditional criminal justice approaches. Instead they explain how he blamed his father s leaving as the reason for him never being a good person with a good set of ethics and morals. To extent it is fair to say that the morals of one father was different than the others but as Cheryl Strayed puts it in Wild, The father s job is to teach his children how to be warriors, to give them the confidence to get on the horse to ride into battle when it s necessary to do so. If you don t get that from your father, you have to teach yourself. (Part 4) Yes, there is some responsibility for a father to act appropriately, but it is not a justifiable excuse for a child without a father to say they cannot do the same things as a child with an engaged father. Strayed proved that in her own journey because in taking the Hike on the PCT she was recognizing she could no longer excuse her lapses in character or her lack of paternal care. Strayed wasn t doing drugs because of her father never being there, she was doing drugs because she felt that was what people without father who cared did. However If Strayed wanted to change she didn t need a father. By stopping and changing the course of her life Strayed proves the defeated Wes wrong and confirms the claim that it was not the actions of another during her up bringing that affected her being a good person, but her reaction to the actions of another in her youth that impacted how she thought and went about life, always ...
